New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Just one day after being shut down for the remainder of the 2014-15 season, New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony underwent successful debridement surgery to repair the patella tendon of his left knee.
Anthony has been bothered by knee problems throughout much of this season, having missed 13 of the Knicks' 53 games before the All-Star break. The 2012-13 NBA scoring champion is expected to need 4-to-6 months of recovery time.
The Knicks' decision to shut down Anthony was expected, with the team currently owning the league's worst record at 10-43. The Brooklyn-born forward wanted to participate in Sunday's All-Star Game at Madison Square Garden and put up 14 points with seven rebounds in 30 minutes.
Anthony averaged 24.2 points and 6.6 rebounds in 40 games this season.
