The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced Friday the resignation of general manager Tony Reagins.

Reagins had served as the team's GM since October 16, 2007, taking over for Bill Stoneman. In his four seasons at the helm, the Angels went to the playoffs twice, but have failed to make the postseason in each of the last two years.

While he was instrumental in signing free agent outfielders Torii Hunter and Bobby Abreu, his trade for Vernon Wells essentially in exchange for Mike Napoli last offseason has turned out rather poorly.

He will remain with the club as a special assistant. No replacement has been announced.
