Andrew Pierce rushed for 117 yards and three touchdowns to lead Delaware past Rhode Island 35-13 in a Colonial Athletic Association game on Saturday.
Following Pierce's first score of the game, Bob Bentsen connected with Robbie Jackson on a 20-yard scoring strike but the Rams botch the PAT and Delaware (6-2, 3-1) led 7-6 early in the second quarter.
The Blue Hens then rattled off 28 unanswered points, including a 75-yard touchdown by Pierce and a 78-yard touchdown scamper by wide receiver Michael Johnson, marking the second time in school history in which Delaware had two scoring runs of 70-plus yards and the first since 1995.
Johnson became the first wide receiver in school history to top the 100-yard rushing plateau, finishing with 123 yards on three carries.
Jackson paced Rhode Island (3-6, 2-4) with nine catches for 85 yards.
Delaware snapped a five game road losing streak.
