LORMAN, Miss. – Marquiz Baker scored 21 points and Alcorn State snapped a four-game losing streak with a 70-63 win over Southern University on Saturday night.
The 63 points are the fewest allowed by Alcorn State since giving up 60 to the Jaguars last season on Feb. 27, 2010. The Braves had allowed more than 80 points in three of their four previous games.
The Braves shot twice as many free throws as their opponent, making 18 of 30 for the game compared (60 percent) to 9 of 15 (60 percent) for the Jaguars.
Baker was the only player in double figures for the Braves (2-17, 2-7 Southwestern Athletic Conference), who had 10 players score.
Julius Ingram led four players in double figures for the Jaguars with 21 points. Blake Sanford chipped in 13 points, Neal Webb added 11 and Quinton Doggett had 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Jaguars (4-17, 2-6), who have lost two games in a row.
