Albany, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The University at Albany will reportedly hire Maryland assistant head coach Greg Gattuso this week as the next head coach of the Great Danes.
The Troy Record and other reports said Gattuso will succeed Bob Ford, who retired after the 2013 season - his 44th as the only head football coach in Albany history. He retired as the winningest active coach in Division I football with a final record of 265-190-1.
Gattuso has spent the last three seasons with the Terrapins as an assistant. The former football player at Penn State and 1983 graduate also was the head coach at Duquesne from 1993-2004.
An Albany athletic spokesperson said the university would issue a release regarding the coaching situation on Monday.
Albany finished 1-11 this year in the team's first season in the Colonial Athletic Association. Ford's final game of his career came on Nov. 23, a 24-3 loss at Stony Brook.
