NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Albany (N.Y.) blocked an extra point, a punt and a field goal and recovered an onside kick en route to a 23-20 victory over Yale on Saturday in the schools' first meeting.
After Yale (2-1) scored with 10:22 left in the first quarter, Jon Morgan blocked the extra-point attempt by Alex Barnes.
On the Bulldogs' next possession, Trevor Anderson blocked a Barnes punt and Justinian Mason ran it 7 yards for a 7-6 Great Danes lead.
Albany (2-2) built a 17-6 cushion, then Jordan Forney's 28-yard touchdown as time expired made it 17-13 at halftime.
With 2:19 left in the third quarter, Albany blocked Barnes' 20-yard field goal attempt and Dillon Romaine added a 1-yard score in the fourth.
Bulldogs quarterback Patrick Witt threw a 16-yard TD to Chris Smith with 4:19 left, then Albany recovered the onside kick and ran the clock down to 1:36. Yale then stalled at its own 17.
