SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Sacramento Kings are hoping an outstanding summer off the court is just a prelude to bigger breakthroughs in the fall.
The Kings held their first two practices of training camp Tuesday at UC Santa Barbara, going through drills under new coach Mike Malone.
They're spending the week on the seaside campus for team bonding and intensive work on what's necessary to build a foundation of success for the Kings, who have spent seven straight losing seasons out of the playoffs.
Sacramento is on a roll off the court. The Kings were revitalized this summer by an ownership change, a front-office overhaul, new arena plans and a triumphant fight to keep the club in California's capital city.
But Malone wants to back up those achievements with more victories.
