Bilbao, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Aritz Aduriz's last-gasp equalized rescued a point for Athletic Bilbao on Thursday as the club battled to a 1-1 draw with Valencia at the San Mames.

Coming off a 2-0 loss to Sevilla last weekend, the home side came into the match looking to get back to winning ways, but it was a physical first half which produced three yellow cards and no goals during the opening 45 minutes.

The visitors broke the deadlock just past the hour mark when Rodrigo De Paul found the back of the net. Valencia then went down to 10 men in the 84th minute after Nicolas Otamendi was shown a straight red card.

Playing with an extra man for the final six minutes, The hosts sent numbers forward looking for the tying goal as the clock reached 90 minutes and it paid off as Aduriz bagged the equalizer in stoppage time to help his side claim a point.

The result sees Bilbao improve to 40 points from 30 games played, good for eighth place in La Liga, while Valencia remains in fourth place in the table with 62 points.

Also in the Spanish top flight on Thursday Fredy Hinestroza's 84th-minute goal handed Getafe a 1-0 win over Elche, while Felipe Caicedo netted a pair of goals to lead Espanyol to a 3-0 win against Villarreal.
