The Atlantic 10 has announced that the men's basketball tournament will be moving to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, starting in 2013.

It's a five-year partnership and marks the first time the championship will be held in New York City.

"The opportunity to partner with the Barclays Center and bring the Atlantic 10 Basketball Championship to New York has unlimited possibilities," said A-10 commissioner Bernadette McGlade. "Our teams will compete in the newest, state- of-the-art facility within the Atlantic 10 footprint and the number-one media market in the country."

The new arena is slated to open in September 2012 and will be the new home of the NBA's Nets.

The Atlantic 10 started its tournament in 1977 in Philadelphia and it has since moved to several venues. Since 2007, the event has been held at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The last time the Atlantic 10 Tournament was contested in an NBA building was in 2002 at the now-demolished Spectrum in Philadelphia.
