Welcome to the numerous new Screencaps readers – trust me, you have to give this column two weeks to understand what's going on

If you are one of the hundreds of thousands of new Screencaps readers who found this column on Monday, welcome back. You're about to become hooked. Just go ahead and clear your daily schedule at 9 a.m. for "America's Best Daily Column," as named by the readers who've been with me for years. In some cases, readers have been with me for over a decade. This column is their talk radio. It's their daily dose of Real America.

I wrote the original Lia Thomas story that broke open the trans in sports floodgates back in December 2021. The countdown is on to Gracie Hunt's wedding

If you haven't been paying attention, Chiefs heiress Gracie Hunt got engaged to Derek Green, the son of former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Trent Green, earlier this month in a dramatic engagement ceremony that probably had a price tag worth more than my house.

Since then, these two have been firing off content at a record pace, including this gym workout on Monday that has people talking. This is 100% some MAHA content if I've ever seen it. Remember when RFK Jr. and Pete Hegseth were holding pull-up contests and RFK Jr. was appearing in workout videos with Kid Rock?

How do we feel about this Waffle House business pivot?

– Lee D. in Tampa says this is a Waffle House "not far" from Raymond James Stadium. The big news here is that this location is "to-go only" from 11:30 p.m. until 6 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. No more going in after the bar and crushing a plate of smothered, covered and chunked.

"Is this why in general, we are seeing fewer Waffle House (fight) videos lately?" Lee D. wonders.

Travel ball kids are now getting tournament rings after going 0-3

– Steve B. in Grand Junction, Colorado shares an interesting update from the world of youth sports:

Travel ball update: Drove 5 hours through a snowstorm to Ogden, Utah for a 2 day tournament this weekend. After the last game (which we lost), players were given rings, which I thought was odd, since in the tournament, they went, ahem.....0 - 3.

That's right. They got more rings than wins. I guess it's because they lost by fewer runs? Because they wanted to reward us for driving 10 hours roundtrip? They had extra rings leftover? Who knows? I just laugh (and then pay the credit card bill). At least my son is aware enough to realize they didn't earn anything.

On the bright side, we got to see the AAA teams for the Astros and Angles, play in Salt Lake's beautiful park.

I thought you would be interested in this video. I knew people were making money off of youth travel sports, but I had no idea it included private equity firms. Apparently, Apollo and Blackrock have their hands in the Cooperstown tournaments and the Ripken Experience.

The video also touches on the online betting markets for youth sports.

No wonder athletes are playing more and more individually and losing all of the lessons traditionally learned from sports; team work, leadership, etc.

Parents react to the rising costs to watch their kids play at travel tournaments – tensions are rising

– Anonymous provides a sobering report on what she's seeing:

This weekend, i paid $85/per person cash at the door to watch poorly ran (worked by teens and young adults not trained to run clocks, keep books, etc.) AAU Basketball games for my daughters 17U team at the USJN in Milwaukee Wisconsin (June 17th-19th). It was $85 at the door and $93.01 if person paid with card ahead of time. A child's ticket was $50 for the tournament. There are no seats for parents to sit and watch games!!! $85 to stand!

That's just for the game...

AAU circuits have teamed with hotels, and mandate teenage athletes (w/Guardians or parent) stay at certain hotels when traveling for tournaments or the other option is to pay a hefty fine by not going through the traveling agency handling the hotel reservations. This year, TCI Housing was the crooked partner teaming with the crooked AAU Circuit for New Balance demanding specificstays at specific hotels! https://www.tcihousing.com/

Also, the parking was $14-$16 per day.

(Last year for the Run4Roses in Kentucky, we had to pay an extra $250 at the door for my daughter to get into the gym after traveling hundreds of miles because we didn't stay at an appointed hotel. We chose an AirBNB because it was cheaper).

Thank God, this is my daughter's last year playing. Yes, parents and athletes get trapped in this vicious cycle being promised that college coaches will be in attendance (HUGE LIE). Their seats are usually empty! The hopes of these athletes are crushed everytime by the hype of AAU. Parents are duped every time because we know all the time, hardwork, and training their children have put in for their sport

It is sad because it divides families. Only one parent goes to my daughters AAU basketball tournaments because we can't afford the entrance fees, traveling expenses, hotel, food, etc. for our family of 4. This doesn't include the $1500 to $2500 we've had to pay per season for dues to be on the AAU team 🙄 Some teens are traveling without parents/Guardians because it is unaffordable. This is dangerous!

It is a racket and needs to stop!!! It should be against the law for AAU and other partnering companies to take these family's money for children athletes.

As an AAU basketball mom, I would say "don't do it! Just send your children to the college camps. AAU is a racket--a demon from hell."

I was at Pitt Jam Fest this weekend. What is maddening is that the tickets were $68 but no one takes cash so they use these online ticket venues with outrageous fees. The fees for Jam fest were $6.55 as the final ticket price charged was $74.55. My son played 4 games. This weekend there is a Big Shots tournament in Richmond, VA and the weekend ticket price is $45 which is a little more reasonable.Still, in an economy where people can hardly afford to live the youth sports is getting out of control!

– Charleen in Los Angeles reacts to the rise in AAU basketball fees and admission to watch her son play:

There was a Made Hoops event at the L.A. Convention Center this weekend. It was $30 a day to park $35 a person to get in each day. It has gotten so out of hand. I spend $600 a month for him to play on this team and then they talk about seeing if we are lucky enough to go to a tournament in another state which is even more expensive. I am so done.Thank you for raising awareness about this because it is the biggest money grab.

Here in IL, things are bad too, in more ways than one, but in terms of game prices.

The IL state high school girls basketball post season prices were as follows:

- first game of regional tourney = $6 (in a high school gym) - the rest of the regional tourney = $8 per game (in a high school gym) - the sectional price was $9 per game (in a high school gym) - the super sectional price was $11 (in a high school gym) - each session of the state finals were $13 per game (at IL State University)

In Springfield, IL, the Scheel's store built a huge indoor facility under a hoop dome. The local hospital has its name plastered on the outside as a sponsor yet they charge $15 a person to get into youth games. I'm not sure what parking costs.

In the Quad Cities, there is an indoor facility that charges $30 per person.

It's ridiculous!!

I guess we caught a break in Lafayette, Louisiana . Ticket prices for AAU 12 year olds tournament were $15/person on Sat and $20/person on Sunday!Way more than high school ticket admissions. Quite a sticker shock if you ask me.

20.00 for a one day pass. 28.00 for a weekend pass. Total joke. It’s non stop and these kids were 8th graders. No chance they play D3. Sad stuff. Zero Gravity Tournament.

I attended 2 games this past Saturday at Spooky Nook Champion Mill in Hamilton, OH. $32.12 for the one day. Games were Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Weekend pass? $97.00! A giant 64-cent savings if you bought it. I only attended Saturday. $5 to park. The two games were spread out with 2 1/2 hours in between. Had to eat of course... $18 for a chicken sandwich and a small fry. This is ridiculous. At least kiss me if you're gonna screw me!

– Eddie provides us with the financials that families face for their kids to play one weekend at these tournaments:

I have coached AAU basketball for the last 10 years. It’s not just the admission prices to see your kid play…the mid and low level AAU teams also have to pay to get into these tournaments which means the parents have to pay from $200 up for tournament fees(depending on how many their team plays and how big the tournament is). Also, the leagues have operating fees and practice space fees to pay once the team is finalized.

So, you’re looking at about $400 per family before you even show up to pay to watch them play. The national circuit teams fees will turn your stomach. The driver….a lot of the parents have this pipe dream that their kid is going to play D-1 college and make it to the NBA or WNBA. Love your kids, but be sane about it!

If you aren't watching Sal Stewart play for the Cincinnati Reds, you're missing out

I know, I know, I know...I'm talking too much about MY first place Reds, but that is for good reason: Sal Stewart, 22, is a throwback to baseball players that made us fall in love with the sport in the first place. Last night in Tampa wasn't about the rookie hitting a two-run bomb to dead center.

It was more about his effort in the top of the 7th when he manufactured a run by himself. It was beautiful. As sports fans, we BEG for athletes who compete like absolute DAWGS to beat the other team to a pulp. That's Sal. In a league where hitters don't mind striking out 200 times and have an 'Oh well,' attitude, Sal is just the opposite. He wants to beat your brains in. Strikeouts are painful. Making an out is painful for the guy.

That's the sort of athlete I can invest my time in.

Happy 54th birthday to Carmen Electra

There are things that start to make me feel old(er) like Rob Dibble being old enough to file for Social Security and Carmen Electra nearing the 30th anniversary of her Playboy debut. She appeared in the May 1996 edition of the magazine and the rest is history. Monday, she turned 54 and celebrated by dumping out multiple Instagram photos as if it was 1996 again.

Spring has sprung in San Diego

Greg Olsen on Travis Kelce returning to Chiefs for 14th season: 'League is better off with him playing'

Travis Kelce will enter year 14 in the NFL when he steps foot on the gridiron with his beloved Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1, which a close friend and fellow tight end said is a good thing for the league.

After recent seasons, the question of whether Kelce, a future Pro Football Hall of Famer, still wants to play football has come up. Each time, including this offseason, the 11-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro has answered the bell with a resounding yes.

Greg Olsen, whom Kelce works alongside with their Tight End University summit each offseason, spoke to the Chiefs star recently. He told Fox News Digital that he still sees that fire inside Kelce when he talked about strapping the pads on for 2026 – a season in which he will turn 37.

"I think just getting to know Travis and just how much he loves playing the game and how much he loves to compete and obviously the career that he’s had as far as first-ballot Hall of Famers – he’s as close to a lock as you’ll find – especially considering the tight end position takes some guys a little bit longer even though they’re super deserving. I think the league is great to have him," Olsen said. "I think the Chiefs are smart to want him back.

"I got to spend some time with him a couple weeks ago, and he’s super excited for a fresh season, for the team, for himself."

The Chiefs reached an acceptable deal with Kelce, whose contract was up after this past season. Now that he’s in place for 2026, as well as a reunion with Eric Bieniemy as offensive coordinator, the Chiefs are focused on the health of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who needed ACL surgery after injuring it during a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

GREG OLSEN'S ADVICE FOR NFL DRAFT FIRST-ROUND PICKS ON HANDLING HIGH EXPECTATIONS

"It’s one of the best tight end-quarterback combinations of all time," Olsen added, acknowledging one of the league’s best duos in recent memory. "So, I’m happy for [Kelce] just as a friend, as a fan of football."

While it may be a nuisance for Kelce to continuously hear about retirement, Olsen also understands that Kelce has had the opportunity not many can say they do during a grueling football career – walking away on your own terms.

Olsen wants that for his friend in the end, whenever that may be.

"I’d love to see him go out when he wants to be done," Olsen explained. "Very few guys are able to earn that right throughout their NFL career to say, ‘You know what? I’m done when I say I’m done.’ That’s not typically how it goes. Very few guys have that swan song, perfect ending, walking off under the confetti and the Super Bowl. That’s a dream scenario everyone hopes will be them.

"But if there is a guy who deserves his career to end the right way because of everything he’s stood for, everything he’s done, how hard he’s worked, the success he’s had, individually and collectively, Trav’s at the top of that list."

Olsen, who serves as an NFL analyst for Fox Sports, is excited for the prospect of covering more games featuring Kelce and the Chiefs, as he wants to enjoy the remainder of his career.

And that’s a career defined by three Super Bowl titles, and more than enough accolades to end up with a bronze bust in Canton one day.

"I never thought I’d see a day where people started saying, ‘Is anyone better than Tony Gonzalez?’ Then, Gronk comes along and that conversation. When it’s all said and done, Travis might be at the top of that list, which 10 years ago sounded crazy that anyone would surpass some of those guys. His career is second to none, and the league is better off with him playing," Olsen ended.

Chiefs heiress Gracie Hunt announces engagement to son of team's former quarterback: 'It was always you'

Gracie Hunt, the daughter of Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, announced her engagement earlier this week.

Hunt posted a photo collage of her engagement to Derek Green, the son of former Chiefs quarterback Trent Green.

"It was always you," the couple wrote in a collaboration Instagram post with emojis of a ring, red heart, and infinity sign. "'And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.' Romans 8:28."

The couple posted 14 photos, including one with Green on a knee in front of a crying Hunt, a close-up of the ring, a photo of Green and Clark Hunt shaking hands, and both mothers taking photos of the occasion.

Hunt also posted a video that her mother took of her just before she got engaged, captioning it "POV: walking towards your forever."

Hunt took a golf cart to a boardwalk that she walked down to meet Green, who was decked out in a white suit himself.

The couple also posted on Easter Sunday.

"Thank You, Jesus — for salvation, for love, and for this beautiful chapter You’ve written for us. You painted the purest picture of love the world has ever seen, and today we celebrate that gift," they wrote. "As we step into this new season of life together, our prayer is simple — to love each other the way You loved the church. Selflessly. Faithfully. Completely. Happy Easter from our hearts to yours."

While Green did not find the same success as his father, he still played four seasons at SMU and one more at Long Island University.

Hunt was previously in a relationship with Cody Keith, an ex-quarterback for East Carolina University who got a shot in multiple NFL training camps before seeing some interest in the Canadian Football League who had once befriended Patrick Mahomes.

Rumors of their breakup swirled earlier last year, and then Hunt confirmed she was in another relationship this time last year.

Travis Kelce's sister-in-law begs people to 'stop f---ing asking' her about his and Taylor Swift's wedding

It's coming up on one year since Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce got engaged, so a wedding must be around the corner, right?

Well, if you want to find out any information, you are not getting it from Kelce's sister-in-law.

Kylie Kelce, who is married to Travis' brother, Philadelphia Eagles legend Jason Kelce, begged people on her latest "Not Gonna Lie" podcast to "stop f---ing asking" her and her mother-in-law about the upcoming nuptials.

"I just want to say to literally everybody, I know it usually comes from a good place — not always — but quit asking me and my mother-in-law about upcoming nuptials," Kelce said.

"Nobody is f---ing telling you anything. I don’t have any details. I have no details. None. Stop f---ing asking me. Stop f---ing asking my mother-in-law.

"Here’s the deal. Even if I did have any information, I’m not f---ing telling you. That’s private information, if I had it, private information between family. So A and B, C your way out. See what I did there?"

Kelce then implored those who continued to ask to "suck my a--."

While their exact timeline is unclear, Swift was first spotted at a Kansas City Chiefs game Sept. 24, 2023. She revealed in an interview with Time magazine that they actually began dating long before she appeared in the stands.

In July 2023, Kelce joked on his "New Heights" podcast that he missed the opportunity to give Swift a friendship bracelet in person when The Eras Tour rolled through Kansas City.

The two then announced their engagement in August after Swift appeared at numerous games, including a Super Bowl, and Kelce attended, and even was on stage for, Swift's Eras Tour concerts.

Kelce announced earlier this offseason he would be returning to the Chiefs for a 14th NFL season.

NFL clears Rashee Rice of league policy violations after probe into ex-girlfriend's abuse allegations

The NFL has concluded its investigation into Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice. In a statement, the league said it determined Rice "has not engaged in conduct that violates the personal conduct policy."

The league also investigated accusations brought by Rice’s ex-girlfriend, Dacoda Jones, and said that case is closed.

The announcement means the 25-year-old will not face NFL discipline, noting "insufficient evidence to support a finding that he violated the personal conduct policy."

Rice’s attorney, Sean Lindsey, said in a statement that "Mr. Rice wants to thank the NFL for its thorough investigation and looks forward to the start of the 2026-27 NFL season."

The Chiefs declined to comment after the league’s decision Friday.

In January, Jones posted photos on social media appearing to show bruising and wounds across her body and alleged prolonged domestic abuse. The post did not name Rice or anyone else. However, Jones said her alleged abuser is her children’s father. Jones and Rice share two children.

CHIEFS' RASHEE RICE SCORES FIRST TD IN RETURN FROM SUSPENSION

In a since-deleted Instagram caption, Jones wrote, "I’m so tired of keeping quiet. I’m so tired of protecting his image. I’ve been through too much in a span of eight years, and I’ve had ENOUGH!"

She said she and Rice split in 2025.

Jones filed a lawsuit in Texas in February. The suit alleges Rice repeatedly committed assault over a 1½-year span beginning in 2023. The legal action seeks damages in excess of $1 million. Jones also raised strangulation allegations she said occurred in December 2023.

"Rice has grabbed, choked, strangled, pushed, thrown, scratched, hit and headbutted Ms. Jones, as well as struck her with inanimate objects," the lawsuit states.

Lindsey disputed the claims in the lawsuit, citing a sworn statement from Jones.

"On Oct. 9, 2025, well after the parties’ relationship had ended, Ms. Jones stated under penalty of perjury in an affidavit for non-prosecution that ‘Mr. Rice and I had a verbal argument, but he did not punch me.’ We will allow the legal process to run its course."

In March 2024, Rashee Rice drove a Lamborghini Urus at 119 mph on Dallas’ North Central Expressway, triggering a multicar crash that injured multiple people. Theodore Knox, a former teammate of Rice's at SMU, was driving a Corvette. According to authorities, Rice, Knox and three others fled on foot without checking on the injured before police arrived.

Just under two weeks later, Rice publicly accepted responsibility for the incident and issued an apology. He later turned himself in to police after an arrest warrant was issued. A judge sentenced the Super Bowl winner to 30 days in jail and five years of probation for his role in the incident.

In district court, he pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony counts of a collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. He was granted deferred adjudication, meaning the case will be dismissed if he successfully completes probation.

The NFL imposed a six-game suspension last season after determining Rice violated the league’s personal conduct policy in that case.

Chiefs GM Brett Veach won’t reveal invite status for Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift's wedding

As Brett Veach prepares for the NFL Draft and works to position the Chiefs for a return to contention, the general manager is also staying quiet about a widely speculated wedding involving one of the team’s top players.

During a sitdown with ESPN at this week’s NFL meetings in Arizona, Brett Veach sidestepped questions about whether he received an invitation to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s upcoming wedding.

"We’ll see," Veach said during his appearance on "The Schrager Hour" podcast. "Couldn’t say either way.

"That’s like the hardest-hitting question you’ll ever ask me."

Veach quickly shifted the conversation back to the draft, and then made clear he wouldn’t be sharing any wedding details.

"Off the record, you can ask me who we’re picking nine [during this month’s NFL draft]. I’m going to tell you who we’re picking nine. I cannot disclose anything about the wedding," he said.

Kelce and Swift revealed their engagement in a joint Instagram post in August 2025. "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married," the couple captioned a series of photos.

According to multiple reports, Kelce and Swift plan to wed June 13 in Rhode Island.

Last month, Kelce and the Chiefs reached a deal for the Pro Bowler to return for his 14th season in Kansas City.

"I’m still in love with this game. I still love going to work and putting on the pads, grinding it out and just playing the game," Kelce told "The Pat McAfee Show."

At the NFL Scouting Combine in February, Brett Veach struck an optimistic tone about Travis Kelce’s potential return for 2026, calling the three-time Super Bowl winner an "icon."

"Travis is the best," Veach said in Indianapolis. "He's an icon, and hopefully he comes back. We'll just kind of let that process play out. It's not your typical 27-year-old [and] first time at free agency. Travis has done everything and has accomplished everything.

"He's about to get married. He's got a lot going on, so I don't think there's an element of us not trying to get something done. You need to have some sort of deadline [or] timeline, but, at the same time, he's Travis Kelce."

With her husband on the fast track to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Brittany Mahomes has been enshrined in one herself.

The wife of Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was inducted into the University of Texas at Tyler Hall of Fame over the weekend.

Brittany starred at the school for the women's soccer team, scoring 31 goals in 70 games. In her senior season, she scored 18 goals, then a program record, in as many games after scoring seven the year prior.

Twelve of those goals came on four hat tricks that season.

The lady Patriots were gifted new Team Mahomes kits and cleats for the fall 2026 season, complete with the Team Mahomes signature Gladiator symbol.

"This City and this School is a huge part of who I am today, I will forever cherish this honor and am forever grateful for what this program did for me as an athlete and as a person! Patrick Mahomes throwing football again three months after ACL tear

Patrick Mahomes suffered a devastating knee injury that ended his 2025 season and completely crushed the hopes of the Kansas City Chiefs of making the playoffs.

Mahomes suffered the injury on Dec. 14, 2025, in Week 15 against the Los Angeles Chargers. A torn ACL usually takes about nine months for most athletes to recover from and return to the sport that they play. It would pin Mahomes’ return to around Week 1 of the 2026 season.

While his status for the start of the 2026 regular season is still up in the air, the star quarterback posted a video that would get any NFL fan excited for his return to the field.

"QB1 back in the lab," the Chiefs wrote on X.

The video showed Mahomes dropping back and throwing a football. He was seen with a black compression sleeve on his leg. It was only a six-second clip, but he appeared to be making good progress in his rehab process.

Mahomes addressed his status in January once the season was finished.

"So, that’s been going great. I’ve been doing all of it here in Kansas City so far. (Assistant athletic trainer) Julie (Frymyer) has been crushing it, pushing me. The doctor kind of gives you goals to get to, and I just try to maximize those, and they hold me back because I always want to go a little bit further. It’s been going great.

"I think the long-term, I want to be ready for Week 1. The doctor says that I could be, but I can’t predict what’s going to happen throughout the process but that’s my goal, so I’ll try to prepare myself to be ready to play in that Week 1 and have no restrictions. You want to be out there healthy and giving us the best chance to win. Obviously, I hope to be able to do some stuff in OTAs and get to training camp and hopefully be able to do a lot there. I’m excited for the process. It’s a long process, but I’m excited for it."

Super Bowl champion defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton announced a family tragedy on Sunday.

Wharton, who currently plays for the Carolina Panthers, said on his Instagram Stories that his brother died by suicide.

"Good morning. On behalf of my family and my brother, I want to take a moment to give everyone some closure," he wrote. "My brother passed away by suicide. Wharton was a standout at Missouri S&T before he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020 as an undrafted free agent. He played five seasons with the Chiefs, earning 13 starts in his 72 games he played for the team.

He was a part of two Super Bowl-winning Chiefs teams.

Chiefs trade for Patrick Mahomes' backup after uncharacteristic six-win season: reports

Patrick Mahomes appears to have a new backup.

The Kansas City Chiefs agreed to a deal to acquire quarterback Justin Fields from the New York Jets for a 2027 sixth-round pick, according to multiple reports. The Jets will also pick up $7 million of his guaranteed $10 million salary for the 2026 season.

The teams have yet to officially announce the trade.

Kansas City was holding its own for the most part last season and were aiming to make the playoffs as a wild card team before Mahomes suffered a season-ending knee injury.

The Chiefs uncharacteristically lost eight of their last nine games and turned to backup quarterbacks Gardner Minshew II and Chris Oladokun as the team dealt with injuries at that position.

The former Ohio State standout has 9,039 passing yards and 52 touchdown passes in 59 games played. He started nine games for the Jets in 2025 and had 1,259 passing yards and seven touchdown passes. He was 2-7 in those games.

Travis Kelce insists Chiefs return in 2026 was never in doubt: 'Hungry to get back'

Any concerns about 11-time Pro Bowler Travis Kelce’s career continuing with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2026 were apparently unwarranted.

Shortly after news surfaced that Kelce would return to the only NFL team he’s ever played for, the 36-year-old tight end said he made the decision "about midway through" last season.

"About midway through the season," Kelce said on the latest episode of "New Heights," the podcast he co-hosts with his brother, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce.

While questions surfaced after Kelce took some extended time to reveal his decision, he made it clear he did not want to make an emotional decision.

"I was taking Jason Kelce’s advice. I was taking the advice to take a step back," Travis said. "You gotta let the emotions clear, and you gotta have a clear head. I’ve made decisions based off of emotions, and they haven’t always played out the right way.

"So, I think taking a step back, letting the emotions settle down … it still felt like I was hungry enough to get back at it. Obviously, there’s still a little bit of that grit and that emotion. I f------ hated the way that s--- ended last year, and I wanna make it right."

Kelce said his decision to return was also driven by another shot at NFL glory.

As the Chiefs’ offseason got off to an earlier-than-normal start, Patrick Mahomes' season-ending ACL injury and the uncertainty swirling around Kelce’s future are being closely watched in Kansas City.

Kelce finished last season with 851 receiving yards and five touchdown receptions.

Patrick Mahomes Sr released from jail as court extends probation after Texas withdraws revocation bid

Patrick Mahomes Sr. was arrested in February 2024 in Tyler, Texas, on a felony DWI charge, the third such charge for the former MLB pitcher.

Mahomes, the father of Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes II, was later sentenced to five years' probation. Last month, he was booked into the Smith County Jail in Texas on suspicion of consuming alcohol, which would be a violation of his probation terms.

On Monday, a judge extended that probation by two additional years in the latest development in his legal troubles. Mahomes' attorney confirmed the additional 24 months to CBS 19 News. The 55-year-old has already served an estimated 24 months of his probation sentence.

The latest ruling came after the state of Texas withdrew its request to revoke Mahomes' probation. The state previously filed a motion to revoke community supervision and amend the terms of community supervision.

However, a subsequent lab analysis showed no alcohol in his system at the time.

The DWI arrest came just over a week before the Chiefs faced the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. In an ESPN documentary released in August 2025, "Chiefs Kingdom," the quarterback said the media circus surrounding the case as he prepared for the game ultimately became a moment of clarity for his father.

"It was during that Super Bowl. It became a story, and so, I had to answer questions about it," Mahomes recalled. "I think just knowing that it hurt me woke him up to know that, like, you can't keep doing the same things."

Travis Kelce credited fiancée Taylor Swift for helping motivate his reported return to the Kansas City Chiefs for a 14th season.

Kelce, 36, said seeing Swift’s continued drive to make new music while having "love and joy" when doing it was motivating.

"We share the same love for what we do, and we’ve had this, fortunately we’ve had this desire since we were kids in our selective professions," Kelce said during a recent appearance on ESPN’s "The Pat McAfee Show."

"It’s amazing to see her keep going to the table, keep finding new things to write about, keep finding new melodies on top of that, still seeing her have that love and joy in what she does.

Travis Kelce's reported contract details revealed with expected Chiefs return

Travis Kelce will reportedly return to the Kansas City Chiefs on a one-year deal, ending the uncertainty around his playing future for at least one more season.

Kelce’s deal is for $12 million, which could be escalated to $15 million, ESPN reported Monday as free agency opened up around the league. The deal cannot be made official until Wednesday.

The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly made one of the first big splashes of NFL free agency.

The Chiefs and Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker III agreed to a deal on Monday, according to multiple reports. Walker joining the Chiefs would certainly bolster their chances of getting back to the playoffs following a 6-11 season.

Kansas City and Walker's deal is for up to $45 million over three years, NFL Network reported.

Walker had a breakout year in 2025 as he helped guide the Seattle Seahawks to their second Super Bowl title. He ran for 1,027 yards and five touchdowns as he and Zach Charbonnet dominated the backfield and bolstered Sam Darnold’s passing game.

In Super Bowl LX, Walker helped Seattle push past the New England Patriots. He ran for 135 yards and had two touchdown catches in the 29-13 win. He was the first running back to receive the honor since Terrell Davis did it for the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXXII.

The hourglass has been flipped, and the NFL world awaits to see what Travis Kelce will decide when it comes to his playing future.

Kelce entered the 2025 season with one year remaining on his contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. He signed a two-year extension with the team before the start of the 2024 season in what some thought could be the final two years of his legendary career.

NFL teams and players can agree to deals beginning on Monday at noon ET while contracts cannot be officially signed on Wednesday. Reports emerged Sunday on what the star tight end could do as the icy, cold winter begins to thaw out and the offseason really heats up.

Kelce is expected to return for his 14th NFL season in which he will turn 37 in the middle of, The Athletic reported. However, there is reportedly no guarantee he returns to the Chiefs, and his reps are expected to talk to multiple teams before making a decision.

The new report emerged weeks after The Associated Press reported that Kelce will only play for the Chiefs – if he plays at all.

The Los Angeles Rams not only traded for Trent McDuffie – they just made him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.

When the Rams struck a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs last week, they addressed a key need this offseason. But McDuffie was only set for one more year with his fifth-year option picked up by Kansas City, though reports said both sides would likely agree to an extension.

The Rams and McDuffie agreed to a four-year, $124 million extension, including $100 million in guaranteed money, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

In turn, McDuffie is now the highest-paid at his position in the league with an average annual value of $31 million in new money. He will be paid $13.6 million in 2026 on his fifth-year option.

The Rams sent over their No. 29 pick in this year’s NFL Draft to acquire McDuffie, as well as 2026 fifth- and sixth-round selections and a 2027 third-round pick.

McDuffie, a First-team All-Pro in 2023, has Super Bowl pedigree, playing a starting role in the secondary for two rings as part of the Chiefs’ dominance in recent seasons. He set a career-high in tackles last season (63), while totaling seven passes defended, one sack, and one forced fumble.

For his early career, McDuffie has 34 passes defended, eight forced fumbles, 5.5 sacks and 246 combined tackles. He is one of the best at his position, which is why Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes tweeted, "damn," after news broke that McDuffie was moving out west.

McDuffie, though, heads back home, having been born in Westminster, California, which is part of Orange County. He even discussed the possibility of playing somewhere other than Kansas City, hoping, if anything, he would be going back to California.

"If I could play for another team, I'd probably want to play close to my family, so that would probably be the L.A. Rams so that my family could come see every single game," McDuffie said during a back-to-school event in August 2025, per ESPN.

McDuffie’s deal comes before what’s expected to be a hectic free agent period, beginning on Monday when the legal tampering window opens at noon ET. During that time, players and teams are allowed to agree to terms on an extension, which would clear when the new league year begins on March 11 at 4 p.m. ET.

Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes could beat projected timeline in ACL comeback: report

The Kansas City Chiefs' decade-long run of playoff appearances came to an abrupt end in Week 15 last season. The Chiefs came up short at Arrowhead Stadium in a game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes sustained a season-ending ACL injury when he scrambled to try and pick up some yards in the game’s final minutes.

At the time, the Chiefs said Mahomes would "begin his rehab process immediately," though his availability for the start of the 2026 season remained uncertain. On Thursday, FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer provided an encouraging update about the three-time Super Bowl MVP’s recovery schedule.

"His pain threshold is different, his work ethic is different," Glazer said during an appearance on the "Dan Patrick Show."

"So at first they were like, ‘Oh, you know, start of the season.’ I would probably hedge on him being [back] sooner than that. By far. Because he just attacks things."

Glazer also noted that doctors were able to perform the procedure before significant swelling set in, which may have accelerated Mahomes’ recovery timeline.

"The initial reports were kind of on the fringe there, but I want to tell you, Patrick’s different," Glazer added.

"He got (the surgery) before it swelled up. So, that was on a Tuesday. I believe it was either Thursday or Friday that week, he was already in the Chiefs’ training room doing rehab. And he had already got his knee bending at 90 degrees at that point. He’s just different, he heals differently."

In a message posted to social media after sustaining the injury, Mahomes thanked fans and said he would put his "Trust in God."

"Don't know why this had to happen," Mahomes wrote. "And not going to lie, it's hurts. But all we can do now is Trust in God and attack every single day over and over again. The Chiefs finished the 2025 season at 6-11. Earlier this week, the team traded Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams for a package of future draft picks as part of their offseason roster retooling.

Travis Kelce got an invitation to Tiger Woods' The Golf League (TGL) earlier this week, and he he got to mingle with President Donald Trump's granddaughter, Kai.

The Kansas City Chiefs superstar tight end was spotted chit-chatting with Kai before an event that featured Woods' Jupiter Links team against The Bay Golf Club, according to a video from Tyler Boronski.

Kelce and his brother, Jason, attended the event, which featured a hole-in-one from Tom Kim, helping Woods' team reach the playoffs.

Trump was first spotted at the TGL events last year, shortly before Woods and Trump's mother, Vanessa, the ex-wife of Don Jr., made their relationship public that March.

Kelce and the president have yet to meet face to face publicly, but Kelce met former President Joe Biden in both 2023 and 2024 when celebrating back-to-back Super Bowl titles.

Woods and Vanessa Trump have kept their relationship relatively quiet. When they went public last year, Woods asked for privacy. Both Vanessa and Kai attended the Genesis Invitational last month at Riviera, which Woods hosted. Vanessa was also at Monday night's TGL event.

A report in July said the two were "very serious," and "wedding bells" could be chiming, but nothing along those lines has been made public.

Woods announced his relationship with Trump, Donald Jr.'s ex-wife, March 23, 2025.

Woods' son, Charlie, and Vanessa's daughter, Kai, are both competitive golfers. Kai has committed to play at the University of Miami, while Charlie will attend Florida State.

Charlie and Kai played at the same tournament in June.

After his highly publicized divorce from Elin Nordegren, Woods was linked to Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn in the 2010s. He was dating Erica Herman at the time he won the Masters in 2019, but they, too, had a very public breakup that included sexual harassment allegations and an NDA lawsuit filed by Herman.

Woods and Nordegren have appeared to get along in recent years as they co-parent Charlie and Sam Woods.

Rams pick up All-Pro Trent McDuffie in blockbuster trade with Chiefs: report

As the NFL free agency period looms, the Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs have pulled off one of the biggest moves so far this month.

All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie is headed back to his home state of California, according to ESPN.

The 25-year-old was traded to the Rams from the Chiefs in exchange for a package of future draft picks.

The Rams sent the No. 29 selection in next month's draft to Kansas City and a fifth and sixth rounder in 2026. The Chiefs also reportedly picked up a third round pick in the 2027 draft.

The pending move brings to mind a prediction McDuffie hinted at before last season began. At a back-to-school event in August 2025, the defensive back said he wouldn’t mind joining the Rams if he were no longer with the Chiefs.

"You're going to get me in trouble," he said as he smiled. "Let's think. If I could play for another team, I'd probably want to play close to my family, so that would probably be the LA Rams so that my family could come see every single game."

McDuffie spent the first four seasons of his pro football career with the Chiefs. He has one year remaining on his rookie contract. ESPN also reported, citing sources, that McDuffie and the Rams will likely work toward an agreement on a contract extension.

The Chiefs picked up the fifth-year option in McDuffie's deal in April 2025, which fully guaranteed his salary for the 2026 campaign.

News of the move drew reactions across the league, including from McDuffie’s soon-to-be former teammate Patrick Mahomes, who simply wrote "damn" in a post on X.

McDuffie was born in Washington, California, about 31 miles from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, where the Rams play their home games. He earned second-team All-Pro honors after a standout 2024 season, finishing with two interceptions and 13 pass breakups.

Chiefs GM Brett Veach comments on Travis Kelce's status ahead of 2026 season

As the days get closer to the official start of the 2026 NFL season, Travis Kelce’s status with the Kansas City Chiefs remains a hot topic.

Kelce has said he would let the Chiefs know whether he will play in 2026 by the new league year to allow general manager Brett Veach and the rest of the franchise to make moves for the rest of the roster.

While speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis Tuesday, Veach was asked whether he had heard from Kelce yet.

"Travis is the best," Veach said, per the New York Post. "He’s an icon. … We’ll just let that process play out."

Owner Clark Hunt also commented on Kelce earlier this offseason, saying the Chiefs would be respectful considering his personal schedule with fiancée Taylor Swift.

The new league year begins March 11, when free agency officially opens at 4 p.m. However, the legal tampering period will start at noon ET March 9, when teams are allowed to agree to terms on free agent contracts with players.

Kelce is not under contract with the Chiefs, which means the team would have to negotiate a new deal for him if he wishes to return.

Retirement has been a conversation swirling around the future Hall of Fame tight end for some years now, but he has returned each time. He may have hinted at doing the same during a "New Heights" podcast episode in which he discussed the team’s reunion with Eric Bieniemy, who will once again serve under head coach Andy Reid as offensive coordinator.

"I can’t wait to see him back in the building, man," Kelce told his older brother, Jason. "He’s one of my favorite coaches of all time, one of my favorite people of all time. I’ve had so many unbelievable moments under him as a player, as a person and I just love the guy."

Did Kelce mean he couldn’t wait to see Bieniemy actually inside the building working together or on the outside looking in?

It should come as no surprise, though, that the Chiefs would want their star tight end back in the building for one more ride, especially after a disappointing 2025 season that saw Patrick Mahomes tear an ACL late in the season.

The Chiefs missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014 after finishing 6-11.

Veach has more to worry about than Kelce this offseason, though, as Kansas City finds itself in intriguing but unfamiliar territory with a top 10 NFL Draft pick (No. 9). There's been speculation another reunion could be in the works after Tyreek Hill was released by the Miami Dolphins.

Chiefs' Marquise Brown reveals receiving message from Rondale Moore hours before his death: 'Ain't no way'

The NFL community continues to mourn the death of wide receiver Rondale Moore, who was found dead at his Indiana home on Saturday night, officials said.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown was among those who couldn’t believe the news, and he revealed he had just spoken with Moore not hours before he was discovered with a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound in a garage.

As tributes poured in on social media for Moore, Brown said that he received a message from his fellow receiver earlier on Saturday.

"Bro ain’t no way brotha you just messaged me [a] few hours ago," Brown wrote on X. Brown posted another tweet saying, "You wasn’t alone bro... I told you I know how you feel."

Brown also reposted tributes from other NFL players like Raheem Mostert, Elijah Moore, Jamal Adams and others.

He even shared a text thread that he had with Moore, where he shared words of encouragement after the receiver suffered another season-ending injury. He had dealt with one in 2024, and during the Minnesota Vikings’ first preseason game of 2025, Moore tore his ACL on Aug. 9, 2025.

"Praying for you brother," Brown wrote to Moore with a praying hands emoji, "sometimes in life when stuff don’t go as planned as frustrating as it may be have to always remember God is in control, his plan will always prevail all we can do is trust him and always remember someone has it worse. I’m here if you ever need to talk bro I know how s--- feel it sucks dawg but knowing you, you built for this don’t give up [flexed arm emoji."

New Albany police chief Todd Bailey broke the news that Moore was found in a garage with a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound. The death remains under investigation.

Floyd County Coroner Matthew Tomlin also confirmed Moore’s death. He said an autopsy would take place on Sunday.

Moore entered the NFL as an Arizona Cardinals pick in the 2021 NFL Draft after starring at Purdue. He played three seasons with the Cardinals before he was traded to the Atlanta Falcons in 2024. However, a season-ending injury cut his time short in Atlanta.

"Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family, friends, teammates, and everyone who loved him and had the privilege of knowing such a special person," the Cardinals said in a statement.

He would join the Vikings before the start of last season, but that injury in August didn’t allow him to get a shot at making the roster for that season.

"I am devastated by the news of Rondale’s death. While Rondale had been a member of the Vikings for a short time, he was someone we came to know well and care about deeply," Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said in a statement. "He was a humble, soft-spoken, and respectful young man who was proud of his Indiana roots.

"As a player, he was disciplined, dedicated and resilient despite facing adversity multiple times as injuries sidelined him throughout his career. We are all heartbroken by the fact he won’t continue to live out his NFL dream and we won’t all have a chance to watch him flourish."

Travis Kelce's teammate fires back at assertion Chiefs should part ways with tight end

Kansas City Chiefs star Chris Jones came out in defense of Travis Kelce after a former general manager said the team should move on from the tight end in the offseason.

Former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said on ESPN’s "SportsCenter" on Wednesday that the Chiefs should cut Kelce and look to upgrade the position with a younger and faster player.

Jones, a defensive tackle, had a two-word response.

"Shut up," he wrote on X.

Tannenbaum said that the Chiefs front office should be projecting what a player can bring to the table now, instead of evaluating past performance.

"I would move on from Travis Kelce and let me tell you why. When you’re in the front office, you have to project what a player is going to do," he said. "Not what they’ve done. I’ve made that mistake countless times in my career. And Travis Kelce is a first-ballot Hall of Famer, but when you watch him and make an honest and sober evaluation of his 2025 performance, clearly, his best days are behind him.

"We talk about their lack of explosive plays, if I was Kansas City, I would make the right, albeit difficult, decision to move on from Travis Kelce to try to get younger, faster and more explosive at the tight end position."

Kelce, a three-time Super Bowl champion and 11-time Pro Bowler, has seen his stats decrease over the last three seasons. Though, as he’s aged, defensive coaches have been more keen to cover Kelce in a way that prevents Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense from harming them.

He did have better numbers from the 2024 season to the 2025 season. He had 851 receiving yards on 76 catches and five touchdowns last season – up from 2024 when he had 97 catches for 823 yards and three touchdowns. He also proved to be a valuable target for Mahomes’ backups when he suffered a season-ending injury.

Kelce could still opt to retire, which makes the Chiefs’ decision moot. But as of now, his future is still hanging in the balance.

Chiefs' Rashee Rice hit with lawsuit from ex-girlfriend alleging domestic abuse

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice’s off-the-field legal issues continued on Monday, this time with domestic violations allegations against him.

The initial accusations came via Instagram from ex-girlfriend Dacoda Jones, who is also the mother of their two children.

Now, a civil complaint has been filed in Dallas County District Court, where Jones is seeking over $1 million in damages. TMZ Sports first reported the lawsuit.

The lawsuit alleges that, in December 2023, Rice "strangled" Jones at their shared home in Victory Park, Texas, and he "continued to repeatedly assaulted [sic] Dacoda Jones over the court of their relationship through July 2025."

"Defendant Rice has grabbed, choked, strangled, pushed, thrown, scratched, hit, and headbutted Ms. Jones, as well as hit her with inanimate objects," the lawsuit alleges. "Additionally, he has engaged in other violent and abusive behaviors towards Ms. Jones, including throwing objects, destroying property, punching walls, and breaking furniture, as well as locking her out in the middle of the night. Many of these behaviors occurred while Ms. Jones was pregnant.

"As a direct and proximate cause of Rashee Rice's assaults on Dacoda Jones, she has endured numerous physical injuries and significant pain and suffering."

Rice's attorney, Sean Lindsey, released a statement later Wednesday.

"On October 9th, 2025, well after the parties' relationship has ended, Ms. Jones states under penalty of perjury in a sworn Affidavit for Non-Prosecution that ‘Mr. Rice and I had a verbal argument, but he did not punch me.’ We will allow the legal process to run its course and have no further comment at this time," Lindsey's statement read, via ESPN.

Rice's agent, C.J. LaBoy, did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the lawsuit.

The Chiefs and the NFL previously acknowledged the allegations against Rice, who just completed his third season in the league.

"The club is aware of the allegations on social media and is in communication with the National Football League," the Chiefs told Front Office Sports. "We have no further comment at this time."

While the league reviewed the situation then, it will likely expand that investigation now that the civil complaint has been filed.

Rice served a six-game suspension to start the 2025 season due to his two third-degree felony charges from a March 2024 crash on a Dallas highway. Rice was charged with a collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury, which he pleaded guilty to last month.

As part of Rice’s plea agreement, he received five-year deferred probation and 30 days in jail as a condition of the probation.

Rice’s jail time is said to be flexible, according to the Dallas County District Attorney's Office.

This new lawsuit could affect Rice’s five-year probation for the street racing incident.

Rice played eight games for the Chiefs in 2025, racking up 571 yards on 53 receptions with five touchdowns after returning from his suspension.

Rice sustained a season-ending knee injury four games into the 2024 season after a successful rookie campaign in 2023 in which he had 938 yards on 79 catches with seven touchdowns on the way to helping Kansas City win the Super Bowl that year.
