Justin Thomas, Keegan Bradley get heated with official over pace of play at PGA Championship

After a slow first round at Aronimink Golf Club in Philadelphia on Thursday, pace of play was a point of emphasis at the PGA Championship on Friday.

However, when an official approached Justin Thomas and Keegan Bradley, they became animated.

Thomas, a longtime Team USA Ryder Cup member, and Bradley, last year's United States captain, were on the fourth hole when they were approached by an official in a cart, and the conversation quickly turned into finger-pointing.

Thomas said after the round that he, Bradley and fellow USA Ryder Cupper Cameron Young, who won the Cadillac Championship earlier this month, were put on the clock, with the official telling them to pick up the pace. However, both Bradley and Thomas appeared to point at the group in front of them.

"We just didn't really agree with it," Thomas said, citing course conditions, high winds and tough pins. "We were behind. That wasn't our issue... It's just the fact that we weren't holding up the group behind us."

Thomas said they were caught up with the pace on the very next hole.

Thomas had a lengthy conversation with the official, while Bradley appeared to make his point short and sweet -- though he was definitely not happy with the call.

It is a large PGA Championship field, with 156 golfers at the course and groups even starting their rounds on the back nine. The scores have also been rather high, with just 25 players below par at the time of publishing.

Aronimink also features a shared tee box on 1 and 10, holes 9 and 17 crossing paths, and a lengthy par-3 eighth hole that's causing problems. Three par-3s are over 200 yards on the course, and there is also a 457-yard par 4 on the fourth.

The (un)official start of summer. Wasn't it just January? Thank goodness it's not anymore. Winter is miserable. Spring is overrated. Summer is the real start of the year. Let's roll.

Welcome to a Friday Nightcaps — the one where Jena Sims wraps herself in a bow as Brooks Koepka attempts to stay in contention at the PGA Championship. He should be in good shape after this!

I've got nothing to say about pizza. I know I usually offer up some sort of hot take right around here, but I don't really have one in terms of pizza.

It's delicious. Everyone loves it. A bad slice of pizza is better than 99% of other things in this world. It's like golf. A bad round of golf — and that's most of them — is better than a good day anywhere else.

Personally, my perfect slice includes sausage and banana peppers, but I'm not even going to attempt a Mount Rushmore here. It's too subjective. I will say, the people who use their napkins to soak up the grease before eating it are insane. My wife is one of them, by the way. It's exhausting. We're better than that.

This PGA player who was late to his tee time yesterday is nuts. "It's not my job to be 10 minutes early" is one of the dumber quotes I've ever heard out of a professional, right behind him telling Marty Smith that "one second is hard to define." No, it's not. It's literally the easiest thing in the world to define. Amazing.
I'd love to show the actual video of Shane's shank into the water, but the dictators who run the PGA Tour have already removed all the videos from the internet because they are truly insufferable.
I've long maintained that Will Ferrell isn't funny. He single-handedly ruined The Office.

As a Dolphins fan, I can assure the NFL that they will regret putting Tua in primetime three times this upcoming season. That will be a disaster.

But that's not my point here. What I really want to ask the class is ... what's your ideal starting time for your NFL team?

For me, the ideal start time is 1 p.m. on Sundays. That's peak NFL football. I want my team playing in the 1 p.m. window every single week. Naturally, the Dolphins start this year with back-to-back 4:25 games, which are just awful.

So that's your homework for the weekend — what's the ideal start time for an NFL game? Let me know!

While we all may differ on that one, here's one thing we can all 100000% agree on:

YES! The NFL finally yanked the obligatory Mahomes/Allen matchup away from CBS and Tony Romo. Thank God. What a blessing.

For years we've been forced to listen to Tony Romo absolutely slobber over these two for three straight hours. It's miserable. It's insufferable.

Not anymore! That's the good news. The bad news?

NO!!!!!! We go from Romo to Collinsworth! What a disaster. Head on a swivel in that booth, Tirico! It's gonna get uncomfortable.

Finally, on the way out ... anyone excited for this new Star Wars movie coming out next week? The early reviews are in, and they are, generally, horrific. I wrote about it this morning if you really wanna get in the weeds.

But, it did get me thinking, did you even know there was a new Star Wars movie coming out? I didn't until about a month ago.

As a '90s kid who grew up during the prequels, the lack of hype around this "movie" is ... depressing.

My God. Those were the days. Remember the old Taco Bell/KFC/Pizza Hut restaurants? Absolute kingdoms of the '90s and early-2000s. And they were always ALL-IN on Star Wars. A new movie was their Super Bowl.

And now? Crickets. Sad.

Brooks Koepka opens strong at PGA Championship after admitting 'family issues' took a toll last year

Brooks Koepka has gotten off to a nice start at the PGA Championship, and each made cut has resulted in a top-20 finish this season.

The five-time major winner returned to the PGA Tour this season after spending four years with LIV Golf and was one of 33 players to break 70 in the first round on Thursday at Aronimink Golf Club outside of Philadelphia.

Last year was a struggle for Koepka on the course, as he missed the cut in three of the four majors and finished 31st in the individual LIV standings.

But it was a struggle off the course as well, especially with his wife, Jena Sims, suffering a miscarriage at 16 weeks pregnant.

Speaking after his first round Thursday, Koepka admitted that "a lot of family issues" last year "took a toll" on him and affected his play.

"That was kind of tough to deal with," Koepka said, via the New York Post.

But home is "in a much better place," which coincides with his impressive scores in the early going.

"It’s easier to come out to work when everything at home lines up. Everything’s a lot better. Last year was just difficult personally with what was going on off the golf course, nothing to do on it. It was just off," Koepka continued.

"So, yeah, just being in a better place. It’s exciting. It’s a little bit of a fresh start as well. I think that’s a big piece of it. Yeah, when all that kind of lines up, it makes it enjoyable to be out here."

"It’s been a long time since I’ve had fun playing golf. I was very frustrated last year. Just wasn’t in a good place, but I think a lot of times when you — it’s like anybody, right? If they’re happy off the golf course, they’re going to play well on the golf course. I think that’s a huge, huge piece of it, and I’ve found that," Koepka told Golf.com last week.

"Refound my happiness, my love for the game. All the pieces are connected. It’s just now I’ve got to go out and go play."

Koepka is currently aiming for his fourth PGA Championship victory, having also won in 2018, 2019 and 2023. He would join Walter Hagen, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only four-time winners of the event.

Koepka struggled in his early return to the PGA Tour, finishing T55 at the Farmers Insurance Open and missing the cut at the Waste Management Open. But since then, despite two other missed cuts, his finishes have ranged from T9 to T18.

Tiger Woods spotted getting off private plane after weeks of treatment in Switzerland following DUI arrest

It appears that Tiger Woods' treatment overseas is over.

The 15-time major champion was spotted getting off his private plane Wednesday afternoon at Palm Beach International Airport after staying in Switzerland for several weeks.

Woods, with facial hair, donned a black long sleeve and hat with sunglasses, gray shorts and black shoes, while still wearing a compression sleeve on his left leg. He was also joined by a dog on the flight.

Woods was arrested and charged with driving under the influence on March 27 after getting into a car crash. Authorities said Woods appeared lethargic and found hydrocodone pills on him, although he did blow "triple-zeroes" on a Breathalyzer.

Woods was granted permission on April 1 to travel out of the country "to enter into comprehensive inpatient treatment."

"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery," Woods said in a statement.

"I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."

Woods has pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge but announced several days after the wreck he would "seek treatment." At the scene of the crash, he said he was "hoping to" play in the Masters, but his treatment put his eventual return to the course on hold.

Woods has been on the course since the 2024 Open Championship — this weekend's PGA Championship marks his sixth consecutive missed major.

The arrest was Woods' second in under a decade, having also been handcuffed after being found asleep behind the wheel in Florida in the early hours of the day.

Woods previously told law enforcement prior to the field sobriety tests that he underwent seven back surgeries and "over 20 operations on his leg." He told law enforcement that "I take a few" prescription medications. In 2021, he got into a wreck that resulted in serious leg injuries that kept him off the golf course for the entire year.

A judge recently ruled that Florida prosecutors can acquire Woods' prescription drug records from Jan. 1 through March 27.

It's Friday, the sun is blazing (it's like 53 degrees), you can just feel summer starting to crank up and Screencaps gets rolling with news that one of our favorite biological females who rose to fame during the transG era, Sydney Thomas, IS BACK and now she's playing poker against other celebrities.

Thomas, 22, is still in that period of her career where she's trying to find her place. Is it in modeling? Is it in acting? Can her agent get her placed in an Adam Sandler movie? Would she form an alliance with Sydney Sweeney and join the SYRN lingerie team?

She's already done the boxing ring girl thing. That wasn't going to be an actual career. Thomas' agent needs to place Sydney behind home plate at Dodgers games. Get her into suites at Rams games. She needs to be at the World Cup this summer. Sydney should throw out a first pitch at a Cubs game.

I'm turning into a big fan of Kaufman's broadcasting style: cool, calm, collected. The guy is smooth. I'm even a big fan of the Happy Hour bit that Golf Channel is doing with Smylie. We just aren't getting much live content like that on TV these days. I LOVE the relaxed approach Golf Channel is taking with Smylie. Keep it coming.

Screencaps readers on the state of Costco, especially on weekends when the degenerates start coming out of the woodwork

This event has grown from some local cowboys having some fun to the largest rodeo east of the Mississippi. We will gross well over a million dollars and net $4-500K for our charitable foundation.

It seems just like yesterday I was helping coach his school team in Knothole T-Ball. Those were fun days, trying to keep the boys engaged instead of making piles of sand or picking dandelions was a tall task in practice and during the games. After the game you tell them to get a drink and a snack from the concession stand then buy a round for the other coaches. Fast forward a few years and I can no longer coach because he was poached by a travel/summer ball team and the days of camaraderie are gone. I say that to say this, I never enjoyed watching his team play after knothole, it all seemed like an exhibition game, no true rivalries, no league title to play for. No after parties since we were at a treeless softball complex for 12hrs on a Saturday in the heat. Jon Rahm apologizes after hitting volunteer with flying divot at PGA Championship: 'inexcusable'

Jon Rahm is one of the best handful of golfers in the world, and, in media availability and his infrequent YouTube golf appearances, is thoughtful, funny and personable. On the course, in tournaments, however, Rahm is known for being among the fiercest competitors in golf. And without question, his own toughest critic.

That dynamic played out again in the first round of the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, just outside Philadelphia.

Pre-tournament, some expected that Aronimink would play easier than other major championship golf courses thanks to the lack of trees or other hazards around the fairways. But as play Thursday winds to a close, it's played much harder than most expected. With a par 70 layout, the leaders have mostly hovered around three under. Rahm, in his post-round news conference, said as much.

"There was somebody earlier in the week where there was some chatter where people thought 15- to 20-under was going to win," he explained. "And I think that got to somebody in the PGA, and they did something about it. Because if the golf course stays like this and it keeps firming up, yeah, obviously it's not going to be anything like that."

Well, he found out himself just how hard it was playing on the seventh hole.

Rahm pulled his drive just a bit off the fairway in the left rough. He wound up catching a flier lie in the tricky rough, and went long on his second into the right rough. Angry with the shot and the outcome, several on-the-ground reporters said that Rahm swung his club at some tall grass and...sent it flying directly at a volunteer standing nearby, hitting him in the face.

The Athletic's Gabby Herzig described it in a post on X, "A frustrated Jon Rahm just took a swing at the rough after his approach on No. 7. It caused a clump of grass to fly into a volunteer’s face." She added that it looked like Rahm "felt pretty bad about it," and that "he went over and apologized quickly."

Put in a difficult position, he wound up not being able to get up and down, settling for bogey. Some viewers caught his swing on Featured Groups coverage from ESPN.

After the round, Rahm was asked about it, and said he "couldn't feel any worse" about it.

"Thanks for reminding me of that," he said. "I got a flier on my second shot that went long. It's not a good spot. Just out of frustration, I tried to make an air swing, just over the grass, and I wasn't looking, took a divot, and unfortunately, I hit a volunteer."

He added, "Yeah, it hit him, and unfortunately it hit him in the shoulder and then the face. Which I couldn't feel any worse. That's why I was there apologizing. I need to somehow track him down to give him a present because that's inexcusable and for something that could be completely avoidable. Whether it was my intention or not, it was just not good."

Rahm being the player he is, wound up recovering to finish his round at -1, putting him squarely in contention for his third major championship. Oh, and in what was one of the most eventful rounds of the day, he holed out twice, including from over 100 yards out.

Rory McIlroy describes his opening round at the PGA Championship with a one-word expletive

Coming off back-to-back Masters Tournament victories, Rory McIlroy appeared to have a lot of momentum heading into the second major of 2026, the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club. That didn't play out on the course, however.

McIlroy entered as the second-favorite to win the Wanamaker Trophy behind World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. But if McIlroy is going to compete to win the PGA Championship for the first time since 2014, he's going to need to start turning things around in a hurry.

The World No. 2 shot a 4-over 74 in the opening round, a disappointing start for the Northern Irishman who has won two of the past five major championships. But it's worth noting that both wins came at Augusta National and McIlroy hasn't won a major not named the Masters since that 2014 PGA Championship victory at Valhalla Golf Club.

When asked after the round to describe his performance, McIlroy gave a simple one-word answer: "S---."

Prior to the tournament, McIlroy dealt with a blister on his foot that caused him to stop one of his practice rounds after just three holes. It's unclear if that affected his performance, but it makes for a convenient excuse if nothing else.

McIlroy had an interesting opening round on Thursday, starting with a bogey on No. 10 (he began his round on the back nine) before immediately bouncing back with a birdie. He stayed at even par through his first 12 holes after carding 10 consecutive pars.

For the second time in the round, McIlroy answered a bogey with a birdie on holes Nos. 4 and 5 to continue his even-par run through 14 holes. But that's when things went south. McIlroy made bogey on each of his final four holes, including on the par-5 9th hole, to finish at four-over. He sat outside the top 120 on the leaderboard after the completion of the morning wave, meaning he's going to have to play extremely well on Friday to make the cut.

The top 70 players (and ties) make the cut after the second round. A missed cut would be incredibly surprising for McIlroy, since he's only missed one cut in his past 12 major appearances (2024 Open Championship) entering this week.

However, his first round in the 2026 PGA Championship was eerily similar to his first round at the 2025 PGA Championship when McIlroy shot 3-over at Quail Hollow. He did make the cut, but slogged his way to a 47th-place finish and never really contended.

Opening round struggles in majors have been a theme for McIlroy, even in his 2025 Masters' win to complete the career grand slam. He seemed to buck the trend by posting that sparkling 5-under in the first round at Augusta last month, but it came back on Thursday.

McIlroy shot a 7-over first round at the 2024 Open Championship, even par at the 2025 Masters, 3-over at the 2025 PGA Championship, 4-over at the 2025 U.S. Open and 1-under at the 2025 Open. Not exactly blistering starts for one of the best golfers on the planet.

He added to that list on Thursday and, once again, will have to dig himself out of a hole if he wants to compete for his first Wanamaker Trophy in 12 years.

Time got the best of Garrick Higgo at the PGA Championship, literally.

Higgo, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour, was penalized two strokes for being late to his opening round tee time at Aronimink Golf Club on Thursday morning. The South African was on property, but according to rules officials, he did not make it into the "starting point" area near the first tee prior to his 7:18 a.m. tee time.

He was informed of the two-shot penalty when he stepped onto the first tee while being handed his scorecard by an official, but that didn't mean he was accepting of it.

After a lengthy conversation with officials in the scoring area and eventually signing his scorecard after the round, Higgo joined the ESPN broadcast and uniquely explained the situation from his perspective.

"So the rules, if you're one second late, you're late. I was obviously there on time, but late, and that's a two-shot penalty, and you have five minutes from then until you are DQ'd," Higgo began. "Obviously, it's unfortunate. I usually cut it fine. It was cold this morning, I was trying to stay as warm as possible coming off from the range. Yeah, I think it shows a lot of mental strength the way I just kept fighting, and it wasn't going to affect my swing or my putter.

"It is what it is. My caddie was on the tee box. I didn't have my watch on me. I didn't have my phone. I'm already in the clouds a little as it is. It just is what it is. I don't know what else to do."

It's worth emphasizing the fact that this is a professional golfer who couldn't arrive on the first tee in an appropriate amount of time on day one of a major championship. Credit where credit is due, though, because "I was obviously there on time, but late" may just be one of the singular greatest quotes ever.

Higgo wasn't done with the word game there, either.

When asked if he agreed with the ruling of the two-shot penalty, he not only said no, but questioned the most basic concepts of time.

"Probably not, but it's fine. I was late. One second is tough to define, but I feel like there should maybe be a minute of grace," Higgo said. "On the PGA Tour, sometimes we tee off 15 seconds after our tee time. I've definitely had a few times when I've said to a starter 'It's a minute past our time.'"

Higgo impressively did not let the two-shot penalty on the first tee get to him whatsoever.

While plenty of players would have let the unfortunate situation linger throughout the round, Higgo went on to shoot a round of 1-under and will be in contention heading into Friday's action.

Arriving at the first tee on time should be the easiest part of competing in the PGA Championship, but it turned out to be an impossible task for Garrick Higgo on Thursday morning.

The South African's first-round tee time at Aronimink Golf Club was set for 7:18 a.m. local time, but he couldn't manage to make it to the tee box when his starting time arrived on Thursday.

The PGA of America announced that Higgo was penalized two strokes for being late for his opening round tee time. He was on the property, but was on the putting green near the first tee, which is "not within the area defined as the starting point at his starting time."

So, Higgo began his PGA Championship by hitting his third shot before even hitting a golf ball in the tournament. He ended up carding a double bogey six on the opening hole, but managed to erase the tough start by making the turn on Thursday at even par thanks to two birdies.

The entire situation is mind-numbing. Higgo is a two-time winner on the PGA Tour and has been a professional golfer since 2019, yet he lost track of time on the putting green at a major championship and technically showed up late for his tee time. Truly preposterous stuff.

The most famous tee time disaster in recent memory involves Rory McIlroy.

During the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah Country Club, McIlroy arrived on property just 12 minutes before his match against Keegan Bradley was set to begin.

The six-time major champion had forgotten that Medinah was located in the central time zone, so when he saw his 12:25 p.m. ET start time, he forgot to subtract an hour to account for the actual time zone.

It all worked out quite all right for McIlroy that Sunday. Not only did he win his match against Bradley, but his European team also won the biennial event 14.5-13.5.

Plus, Erica Stoll, a PGA of America employee at the time, arranged the police escort to get McIlroy to the course ahead of his match. Five years later, the two were married at Ashford Castle in Ireland.

Scottie Scheffler's shoes at PGA Championship pay tribute to one of the wildest stories in golf history

Scottie Scheffler will be wearing a pair of golf shoes with a two-word message printed on the bottom of them during the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club this week, and it's a tip of the cap to one of the wildest stories in golf history.

For years now, Nike has released special-edition golf shoes for each of the four major championships, and this week is no different. The Swoosh brand released three different models for the PGA Championship, all in the same colorway, and all with the word "lost" on the bottom of one shoe and "found" on the other.

The two words are a tribute to Walter Hagen, who won five PGA Championships in his historic career, but it's specifically his third victory in 1925 and what quickly followed that this week's shoes pay homage to.

After his victory in the then-match-play tournament at Olympia Fields, Hagen handed the Wanamaker Trophy to a cab driver and instructed him to take it to his hotel. The Wanamaker is among the largest trophies in sports, and toting it around for a night of celebration would turn into a challenge.

As it turns out, the trophy never made it to Hagen's hotel. A major championship trophy was officially lost.

Equal parts impressive and hilarious, Hagen went on to win the tournament in 1926 and 1927, meaning he was able to avoid having to tell anyone that he had no idea where the Wanamaker was.

According to the PGA, when Hagen arrived at the 1928 PGA, he told officials who asked where the Wanamaker was, "I will win it anyway, so I didn't bring it."

Hagen's luck ran out that year when he lost to Leo Diegel in the quarterfinals at Baltimore Country Club, forcing him to admit that he had lost the trophy a full three years after it had gone missing.

Without a trophy to hand to Diegel, officials were forced to present him with the Maryland Cup Trophy sitting in the country club's lobby.

All was not lost, at least not forever.

In October 1930, Hagen just so happened to stumble upon the Wanamaker Trophy he and everyone else thought would never be seen again.

"In Detroit last week. Hagen, while going through some old trunks, unearthed a bulky package. Lo, and behold! It was the P.G.A. trophy which had been lost and was found again," a headline in the New York Evening Journal on Oct. 6, 1930, read.

Brooks Koepka over Patrick Reed

Brooks seems to be in a good headspace entering as a three-time PGA champion. Koepka said this is the best time he’s had playing golf in a long time at last week’s Myrtle Beach Classic, an alternate event to the Truist Championship.

Reed, on the other hand, hasn’t played competitive golf since finishing T12 at The Masters last month. Brooks was also T12 at The Masters, and he doesn’t have a green jacket like Reed.

Koepka quietly has solid lead-in form. He has five T18-or-better finishes in his last six starts, including a T13 at THE PLAYERS Championship, the aforementioned T12 at The Masters and T11 at Myrtle Beach last week.

Matt Fitzpatrick Top-10

This is insurance for my outright bet on Fitzpatrick. He's finished in the top-10 in 13 of his last 25 international starts, with four wins at the 2025 DP World Tour Championship, the Valspar Championship in March and the RBC Heritage and Zurich Classic last month.

Fitzpatrick has two top-10 finishes in the PGA Championship, including a T8 at Quail Hollow last year. He is the 2022 U.S. Open champion and a four-time European Ryder Cupper. DataGolf.com ranks him fifth in the world, so if anything, we are getting a good price in the outright and top-10 markets.

Patrick Cantlay Top-20

As I wrote Tuesday, Cantlay is kind of on a heater with four straight T12-or-better finishes: T7 at the Valspar, T12 at The Masters, T8 at the RBC Heritage and T10 at the Truist.

Meanwhile, Cantlay has played well at crossover courses to Aronimink. He was T2 at the 2025 TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club and T9 at the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club, both of which are Donald Ross courses.

Cantlay finished T4 at the 2025 Truist Championship at the nearby Philadelphia Cricket Club, which is an easier version of Aronimink. Both have bentgrass greens. You will need to putt well to be on the first two pages of the leaderboard and bentgrass is Cantlay's best putting surface.

Sepp Straka Top-20

Nick Taylor, Top Canadian

He is the biggest dog in the Top Canadian Golfer market and has the most legit win equity. He is a five-time PGA TOUR winner, including his national open, which is essentially a major for him.

The five-time PGA TOUR winner comes in with sneaky-good form, finishing T14 at the Truist last week and T9 at the Cadillac earlier this month.

Plus, I like the course fit: He was T17 at the 2025 Truist in Philly and Aronimink feels like a more forgiving version of last year’s U.S. Open venue, Oakmont Country Club, where Taylor finished T23.

The rest of the Canadians have plenty of warts. Corey Conners (+220), the co-favorite in this market, has just two top-20s this year and has lost strokes ball-striking in four straight starts, which is a major red flag for a guy whose entire case is built around tee-to-green play.

Taylor Pendrith (+300) has the putting yips, and Sudarshan Yellamaraju (+270) is making his first major start, so I’ll gladly fade his inexperience. At this price, Taylor is the value play to be the low Canadian.

Tyrrell Hatton, Top LIV Golfer

The Englishman has finished higher than Jon Rahm (+189), the betting favorite in this market, in three consecutive majors, and higher than Bryson DeChambeau (+312), the second-betting choice, in two of the last three.

I don’t have anything bad to say about Rahm. He is the rightful favorite, but maybe he is in a bad headspace with all the LIV drama. Regardless, Hatton is good enough to outplay Rahm.

As for Bryson, Aronimink probably isn’t a good course fit for him. DeChambeau isn’t good with scoring clubs and there will be a lot of wedge shots in the first 12 holes at Aronimink.

Hatton had a legit chance to win the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont. While Rahm backdoored a top-10 and Bryson missed the cut.

Ultimately, Hatton is solid throughout the bag; there are many different ways to win at Aronimink and his odds should be closer to DeChambeau's.

Jim Furyk says Tiger Woods will have a spot on his 2027 Ryder Cup staff despite DUI arrest

Tiger Woods' future, both within and outside the game of golf, is an uncertainty at this point following his March DUI arrest, but U.S. Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk wouldn't mind putting something on the big cat's calendar.

Woods was involved in a two-car accident on Jupiter Island, Florida, on March 27 and charged with two misdemeanors: DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. The 15-time major winner cleared 0.00 results on both breathalyzer samples he provided, but his refusal to submit to a urine test resulted in him being charged.

Woods was previously arrested in May 2017 on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs after he was found asleep in his car.

USGA SHARES TIGER WOODS STATUS UPDATE WITH US OPEN FAST APPROACHING

Four days after the accident and subsequent arrest, Woods announced that he would be stepping away from golf to "seek treatment and focus on my health." He was granted permission to travel outside the United States to begin treatment.

Speaking ahead of this week's PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club, Furyk admitted that he had not talked to Woods since his March arrest, but made it clear he'd have a spot on his 2027 Ryder Cup staff.

"We haven’t spoken yet. I think, out of kind of courtesy for him and his family and I know maybe a road to health, I haven’t reached out, but I will," Furyk explained.

"Definitely. We’ll see where that role may fall," Furyk continued when asked if he anticipated having a role on the staff for Woods. "I will say I enjoyed serving – I use that word serving – as a vice-captain with him a number of times. I think he brought a lot to the team room and a lot of knowledge and a lot of experience."

Woods was the presumed favorite to take on the role of U.S. Ryder Cup captain in 2025 at Bethpage Black, but reportedly declined the opportunity. He was also on the list of names who could serve as captain for the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Ireland, but his accident and arrest forced the PGA of America to go a different route, and one that led to Furyk being named captain.

Furyk was the captain of the U.S. side during the 2018 Ryder Cup, one that quickly turned into a nightmare for the Americans, who ultimately lost to Team Europe 17.5-10.5.

Not only will Furyk look to put the 2018 mess in the rearview mirror, but he'll also be looking to lead the Americans to their first Ryder Cup victory on foreign soil since 1993.

PGA Championship tickets are surprisingly cheap one day ahead of Thursday's opening round

Want to attend the PGA Championship this week at Aronimink Golf Club just outside Philadelphia? Good news: waiting might have actually saved you money.

That’s not usually how sold-out major sporting events work, but here we are (maybe people are saving their money for the outrageously expensive World Cup).

Tickets for the PGA Championship have been sold out since July, according to Front Office Sports, but resale prices on SeatGeek (the Official Ticketing Provider of the event) dropped below face value for all four tournament rounds as of Wednesday afternoon.

The get-in prices, according to the ticket resale platform, were: $176 for Thursday's opening round (including all fees), $170 for Friday, $223 for Saturday and $243 for Sunday's final round.

That’s especially notable because face value for Championship+ general admission tickets ranged from $199 for Thursday to $299 for weekend rounds, before taxes and fees, according to a PGA of America spokesperson who spoke with Front Office Sports.

In other words, fans can currently get into any of the four rounds for below face value and, in some cases, for much less than the tickets originally cost. That's particularly true of Saturday's third round where ticket prices are roughly $75 cheaper. And resale prices above include fees and taxes, while the face-value prices are pre-fee and pre-tax, so the true all-in difference is actually larger.

Again, this is for a sold-out major championship outside Philadelphia.

The sports ticket market generally doesn’t reward procrastination but this one might.

And these aren’t normal "get in the gate and then pay $9 for a bottle of water" tickets, either. The PGA Championship’s Championship+ ticket (the prices shown above) includes access to the grounds at Aronimink Golf Club and food and non-alcoholic beverages at concession venues throughout the property. Each time a ticket holder visits a concession venue, they can receive one entrée item, one snack item and one non-alcoholic beverage. A patron may return as often as they choose.

That’s a pretty big deal.

Axios reported that the operation at Aronimink includes breakfast items like doughnuts, fruit, yogurt bars and chicken biscuits, plus lunch options such as hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, ham sandwiches, cheeseburgers, Italian sausages, plant-based burgers and Mediterranean salads with falafel.

The entire food operation is massive. Roughly 200,000 spectators are expected during the week, and Axios reported the tournament’s caterer prepared for the event by staffing 60 chefs, 170 managers, around 800 food-service employees, 10 on-site kitchens and 600,000 square feet of food-service space. Fans are forecast to consume 124,000 burgers, 88,000 hot dogs and 372,000 bottles of water during the week.

So, yes, paying in the neighborhood of $200 to walk around a golf course is still expensive. But compared to plenty of other major sporting events, where fans' wallets can quickly be destroyed by ticket prices and then get hit again at the concession stand, the PGA Championship ticket comes with legitimate added value. It's even more added value for a golf tournament, where fans might spend eight hours (or more) inside the venue. That's unlike other sporting events, like football or baseball, where the average game lasts around three hours.

The question is why the resale market softened in the first place. Weather isn't expected to be an issue (outside of a potential short spot shower on Thursday).

Maybe buyers simply overestimated demand when tickets sold out last summer. Maybe the Philadelphia-area market has only so much appetite for several days of golf at major-championship prices (especially with the World Cup starting in June). Or maybe fans realized they could wait out the secondary market.

Whatever the reason, the math is pretty simple: The PGA Championship is sold out, the tickets include food and non-alcoholic drinks, and resale prices are still sitting below face value.

That’s not something fans see very often.

Former PGA Championship winner likens Bryson DeChambeau to a politician in spot-on assessment

Whether you're a fan of him or not, it's a universal truth that Bryson DeChambeau is a unique and polarizing figure. You couple that with the fact that he's one of the best golfers on the planet and a two-time major champion, and you have the making of what many would call an asset in the world of golf.

As LIV Golf's future beyond 2026 is a giant question mark, with the Saudi Public Investment (PIF) pulling its funding at the conclusion of the current season, it has led to the discussion of not only should the PGA Tour welcome DeChambeau back, but does it actually need him?

LIV GOLF CEO TEASES ANNOUNCEMENTS IN 'NEXT 10 DAYS,' TALKS BRYSON DECHAMBEAU'S FUTURE WITH LIV

Ahead of this week's PGA Championship, where DeChambeau is among the favorites at Aronimink Golf Club, 2002 PGA Championship winner Rich Beem was asked the simple yet not-so-straightforward question about the Tour's potential need for a DeChambeau return.

The answer from the Sky Sports Golf analyst was an interesting one and did not disappoint.

"No, they don’t. Again, he’s not bigger than the game," Beem explained on the Sky Sports Golf Podcast.

"I mean, as entertaining as he is on the golf course with what he can do with clubs, I think what comes out of his mouth can be just as entertaining," Beem later continued. "It’s like—you’re a self-proclaimed scientist, but man, you’re not a politician. Well, maybe you are, because politicians seem to do the same thing all the time.

"Here’s why I say the PGA Tour doesn’t need him: nobody’s bigger than the game. Listen, if Jack Nicklaus or Arnold Palmer had walked away in their prime, the game would have gone on without them."

Beem likening DeChambeau to a politician isn't all that bad a comparison.

As Beem pointed out during the podcast, DeChambeau has a tendency to share generic statements like "grow the game" as often as he can while also contradicting himself on occasion. Earlier this month, DeChambeau said that "egos would need to get dropped" by both the PGA Tour and LIV if professional golf wants a chance of coming back together as one.

The irony is that most would say that nobody in the game today has a bigger ego than Bryson DeChambeau.

DeChambeau has mentioned on multiple occasions now that he would be perfectly content in taking a step back from professional golf and focusing on growing his wildly successful YouTube page and just turning up for major championships.

Beem believes that DeChambeau is perhaps his most comfortable in that YouTube setting.

"I think what he’s doing with YouTube might actually be right up his alley," Beem explained.

"That seems to be where he’s most comfortable, because he gets to control the narrative. He controls what’s put out there, what he says, and how he says it — because they can edit it, shape it, do all of that. That’s very different from being in front of a live audience."

Rory McIlroy's PGA Championship week has gotten off to a painful start.

The six-time major champion managed to make it through just three holes during his Tuesday practice round at Aronimink Golf Club due to a painful blister that has recently developed on his right foot. McIlroy was seen limping a bit during Sunday's final round of the Truist Championship.

"Yeah, I've got a blister on my pinky toe on my right foot, but it's underneath my nail," McIlroy said on Sunday before revealing the blister began developing on Friday. "I can't really get to it, so it's a little sore. But I'll be all right."

While he didn't believe he could get to the blister on Sunday, things changed at some point before he arrived at Aronimink on Tuesday, as he managed to give himself an at-home surgery.

"I ended up ripping the toenail off last night, just because it was bothering me so much," McIlroy told the Irish Independent on Tuesday. "I just got in the bath and got the toenail to soften up and then burst the blister that was underneath. It feels better today."

McIlroy also explained that he actually had to go up a shoe size to accommodate the blister on his right foot. He was seen during his Tuesday practice round messing with his shoe and sock on his right foot before ultimately calling it quits.

While a blister on the pinky toe may not seem like too big a deal, it can certainly be a painful and annoying distraction for a player trying to win a major championship tasked with walking over a half-dozen miles throughout the week.

McIlroy is the No. 2 favorite to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy this week behind World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who is the defending PGA champion.

When Jon Rahm left the PGA Tour for LIV Golf in late 2023, it felt like a seismic shift in the battle between the two tours.

Rahm, already a two-time major winner, including the 2023 Masters earlier that year, joined Bryson DeChambeau and gave LIV arguably two of the best four players in the world. Along with Brooks Koepka, known for his prowess in the biggest tournaments, Dustin Johnson, and legendary players like Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia.

While many defections could be hand waved away, Rahm’s departure felt like a major blow and the type of move that could lead to a merger and reunification of the game. Fast forward a few years, and the situation has changed completely.

LIV is now facing a significant funding crisis, as well as questions about the tour’s ability to continue operating after the 2026 season. The PGA Tour, which was caught off guard by LIV’s foundation and seemed immediately on the back foot, suddenly has the upper hand.

What happens next is anyone’s guess; several players have committed to staying with LIV, or at least, not returning to the PGA Tour. Others are up in the air, like Bryson DeChambeau, whose contract expires after this season. Then there’s Rahm. One of the most competitive golfers in the world, who immediately made arrangements with the DP World Tour to allow him to play in future tournaments, should he need to.

Ahead of this week’s PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club outside Philadelphia, Rahm was, of course, asked about his decision to leave and whether he now regrets it, considering the challenges LIV faces. Golf Digest’s Shane Ryan brought up his decision in 2023 and the thought that it might be the catalyst to reunify the game.

"I was never like thinking that I was going to be any sort of weight that would tip the scales to make things come together. That was never an argument in my mind," he said.

As to whether he regrets leaving, Rahm answered by saying he never approaches decisions that way.

"Now, I would also say I've made a lot of decisions in my life, and I've never gone back thinking, ‘Oh, had I known this again, I would do X and Y different,’" he explained. "I could do that about 15 different golf shots on the golf course every single day. If I lived my life like that as a golfer, I would be a very pessimistic person … just to speculate on what could have done, what could have been different doesn't really make much sense."

Rahm is an intelligent, insightful person with a tremendous impact on the game. It’s possible, if not likely, that he did hope his move to LIV would be, if not decisive, important in reunifying the game. And it likely was, as discussions between LIV’s backers and the PGA seemed to increase after his move. Though that dynamic has now changed, dramatically.

He’s also infamously intense when he gets on the course, and there’s little doubt he’d be concerned or unhappy if the quality of play on LIV decreases, should the tour’s funding diminish without Saudi Arabia’s financial support. Particularly because he remains in the prime of his career at just 31 years old.

Whatever the outcome, golf fans want to see Rahm compete against the best. Hopefully that becomes more common moving forward.

Known for its daunting greens and strategic demands, Aronimink should provide a thrilling finish with a versatile leaderboard. Hence, many types of golfers can win the Wanamaker Trophy this week.

With all due respect for THE PLAYERS Championship and The Masters, the 2026 PGA Championship has the best field thus far this season. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler defends his title against 156 golfers, including back-to-back Masters champion, Rory McIlroy, and the best guys from the LIV Tour.

My 2026 PGA Championship betting card reflects how many different types of golfers can win at Aronimink. I've allocated 2.43 units (u) across eight golfers to profit 20u if any of them win. Without further ado, let’s dive into the names most likely to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy this Sunday.

2026 PGA Championship 'Horses For The Course'

I feel bad for "past posting" this bet. Usually, I post my bets on X, but I just forgot to tweet out this look. Give me a break, though. I’m transparent about my golf betting losses and this will probably be another loss.

That said, Young is a top-three golfer in the world right now. He won THE PLAYERS Championship in March, followed it up by playing in the final group and finishing T3 at The Masters, and won the Cadillac Championship earlier this month.

Young is doing everything right on the golf course and nearly won last year at my two favorite courses to Aronimink: Philadelphia Cricket Club (T7 at the Truist Championship) and Oakmont Country Club (T4 at the U.S. Open).

The 2025 American Ryder Cupper is currently +1600 to win the 2026 PGA Championship, which is still a fair price. If I didn’t get the +7000, I’d still be willing to build my 2026 PGA Championship card around Young. He is playing that well.

Matt Fitzpatrick

Recent winners have come into the PGA Championship with good lead-in form and Fitzpatrick certainly checks that box. He has three wins over his last six starts, albeit one was a team event with his brother, Alex.

Otherwise, Matt won the Valspar Championship and RBC Heritage. He finished second at THE PLAYERS and T18 at The Masters over that span, too.

The bottom line is Fitzpatrick is still underrated despite being on an absolute heater. Fitzpatrick is the eighth-betting favorite to win the 2026 PGA Championship at Kalshi, when he should be a top-five betting choice.

Patrick Cantlay

Low-key, Cantlay is "knocking on the door" of winning his first tournament since the 2022 BMW Championship.

He’s finished T14-or-better in six of his 10 starts this year, including four straight: T7 at the Valspar, T12 at The Masters, T8 at the RBC Heritage and T10 at the Truist.

The UCLA alum lost 2.11 strokes with his driver and 1.44 strokes with his putter at Augusta; you have to be playing well to finish T12 at The Masters while losing strokes off the tee and on the greens.

He has gained strokes tee-to-green in five consecutive starts, but his putter has been hot and cold. I’m willing to bet on Cantlay "flipping his putter," though, because Bent greens are his best putting surface and five of his eight career PGA TOUR wins have been on Bent grass.

Hideki Matsuyama

I’m almost always going to bet Hideki. But, at 60-to-1 or better, forget about it, especially because I like Aronimink for Hideki. It’s relatively short and the driver is the weakest club in his bag.

He doesn’t have to worry about hammering the ball off the tee. Aronimink tests your long irons more, which is where Matsuyama excels. He is 12th on TOUR this season in SG: APP and second in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 200+ yards.

Aronimink has difficult green complexes and Hideki has a world-class short-game. Most golfers are screwed if they miss the green, whereas Matsuyama is in scoring range from anywhere inside 50 yards.

He won the 2021 Masters because of his long-iron play and chipping. Oddly, when Hideki finished T15 at the 2018 BMW Championship at Aronimink, chipping was the only area where he lost strokes against the field.

With his current short-game, if Hideki plays Aronimink this week as well as he did in 2018, 60-to-1 is more than a fair price.

Robert MacIntyre

Bobby Mac’s irons have been terrible this season. But whenever MacIntyre hits them well, he contends because he is an elite driver and putter.

Per Betsperts Golf, MacIntyre has gained strokes on approach in just three tournaments this season. Here they are and how he did: Sony Open (T4), THE PLAYERS Championship (fourth) and Valero Texas Open (T2)Texas Open (T2).

Despite his poor iron play, MacIntyre is eighth on TOUR this season in par-4 scoring and there are 12 par-4s at Aronimink. Nonetheless, this place has large greens, which might mask MacIntyre's struggles with his irons and allow him to show off his putting.

Meanwhile, Bobby Mac finished second at the 2025 U.S. Open at another Pennsylvania golf course with tough greens. Speaking of which, MacIntyre is a dog and will win a major eventually, and his odds fit into my 2026 PGA Championship budget.

Sepp Straka

This price (104-to-1-ish) is too good for a four-time PGA TOUR winner and two-time European Ryder Cupper who is still in his athletic-golf prime. Straka is accurate off the tee, elite with his irons and can putt his way to victory.

His biggest weakness is chipping. But that won’t sink him this week because Aronimink’s greens are large and two-thirds of the course is short, so he will hit a lot of greens-in-regulation.

Plus, the two most important yardage buckets for approach shots at Aronimink are 50-125 yards (wedges) and 200+ yards (long irons). Well, Sepp is fifth on TOUR this season in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 50-125 yards and ninth from 200+ yards.

Finally, he won the Truist Championship around this time last year at the Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon Course, which is similar to Aronimink.

They are in the same area of the country and their defense is large, difficult bent greens and dry, windy conditions. If Straka can figure out the Philadelphia Cricket Club’s greens, he can figure out Aronimink’s.

Keegan Bradley

Keegan has been in a funk this season after the 2025 American Ryder Cup team lost when he was the captain. But he is showing some life, finishing T21 at The Masters, T12 at the RBC Heritage and T19 at the Truist Championship in three of his last four starts.

Bradley won the 2018 BMW Championship, the last PGA TOUR event held at Aronimink and usually plays well in the Northeast. Keegan is a Boston sports fan from Vermont who graduated from St. John’s in Queens, New York, in 2008.

He won the Travelers Championship twice in Connecticut in 2023 and last year. His second-best U.S. Open finish was a T7 at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, in 2022.

Also, Bradley has played much better than several guys ahead of him on the odds board. He won the 2011 PGA Championship. The Travelers is a signature event, featuring the best guys on TOUR.

And Keegan has won a tournament in four straight years, including the 2024 BMW Championship, which is the second round of the FedExCup Playoffs. Even though Bradley is having a down year, Aronimink is a good course for him, and anything better than 100-to-1 is a good bet.

It's easier to complain during the buildup of a PGA Championship than any of the other three major championships in golf, but it may not be the case this time around.

This week's 108th PGA Championship returns to Aronimink Golf Club in the Philadelphia area for the first time since Gary Player took the title in 1962. We're somewhat familiar with the course thanks to the PGA Tour hosting the BMW Championship at Aronimink in 2018, but it still feels fresh and new for the most part, something the PGA Championship has desperately needed in recent years.

A "new" golf course with the games of some of the best players in the world very much trending heading into the week, and the 2026 PGA Championship could turn out to be one to remember. We'll set the table with some of the biggest storylines as Thursday's opening round approaches.

Doubt Scottie Scheffler At Your Own Risk

The overall sense of doubt surrounding Scottie Scheffler and his game heading into Aronimink isn't nearly what it was prior to the Masters in April, but that doesn't mean it's entirely gone.

The entire golf world became so numb to Scheffler winning, now that he's gone three-plus months without finding the winner's circle, the natural question to ask is what's wrong with him? The answer to that question is nothing, and that winning golf tournaments, even as the No. 1-ranked player in the world, is really difficult.

Scheffler enters this week as the defending champion and off of three consecutive solo runner-up finishes at the Masters, RBC Heritage and the Cadillac Championship. He opted to pass on teeing it up in last week's Truist Championship, which is the same strategy he took prior to last year's PGA Championship, a tournament he ultimately won by five shots.

With Aronimink not fitting the typical mold of a 'bomber's paradise' and featuring huge, undulating greens that demand distance control with the irons (Scheffler's strong suit), this week certainly feels like his best opportunity to win major No. 5 relative to the other two majors still to come on the calendar.

Jordan Spieth Gets Another Go At The Slam

Just as Rory McIlroy's hunt for a green jacket to complete the career grand slam dominated Masters storylines until he found it in 2025, Spieth looking to get his hands on the Wanamaker Trophy to conquer the same feat, will be a lead talking point as long as he's in the field and Father Time isn't a main character.

This week will mark the 32-year-old's ninth attempt at winning the PGA Championship to complete the slam, which would make him just the seventh player of the modern era to do so. The feeling of Spieth possibly winning this major, or any of the other three for that matter, is complicated. It feels distant, but not entirely impossible, all while not feeling all that close, either.

Spieth has had six top-25 finishes in his 12 starts this season, and missed only one cut, but hasn't picked up a top-10 finish along the way. Interestingly enough, the driver has arguably been his best friend in 2026, while his putter has been as inconsistent as possible.

If, and it's a huge if, Spieth can get every aspect of his game clicking at even just a slightly above-average rate, he can find the winner's circle again. That happening this week at the PGA Championship, one being contested on bentgrass greens on top of that, feels more unlikely than likely.

Is Cameron Young Getting Too Much Love?

A win at The Players, a T-3 at the Masters, another win at the Cadillac Championship, on top of another three top-10 finishes. Cam Young has been a force in 2026, and now you put the New York native and his red-hot game on a course outside of Philadelphia, and you have the makings for an ideal setup for Young to win his first major championship.

Next month's U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills in his home state is likely a better setup, but that's a story for another day; this is PGA Championship week.

CAMERON YOUNG CALLS TOUGH PENALTY ON HIMSELF, IMMEDIATELY GETS REWARDED BY GOLF GODS AT DORAL

Outside of a poor round here and there with the flatstick, Young hasn't shown a weakness in his game, finishing 10th or better in six of his last seven starts. His experience of playing in the final group on Masters Sunday will only pay dividends as well.

You couldn't build a better buildup to a maiden major championship victory than the one Young has put together heading into Aronimink. Some may see that as a sign of things being too good to be true, while others will be stunned if he isn't firmly in the mix down the stretch on Sunday.

Matt Fitzpatrick, The Two-Time Major Winner?

Since winning the 2022 U.S. Open, Matt Fitzpatrick hasn't managed to play his way into serious contention in any of the 14 major championship starts that have followed. With the form he's carrying into this week's action, however, that trend may come to a life-changing halt.

After his solo second at The Players, Fitz has stepped into the winner's circle three times in his five starts since. One of those wins was the Zurich Classic when he teamed up with his brother, Alex Fitzpatrick, but three wins in five starts prove he's playing at an absurdly high level.

Over his last 20 rounds, Fitz ranks,among the PGA Championship field: first in strokes gained around the green, 12th in strokes gained approach, sixth in strokes gained tee to green and 16th in driving accuracy.

On top of putting up phenomenal numbers, he's found a noticeable confidence and swagger inside the ropes, which is easier said than done for a player wearing Skechers.

LIV Guys Need To Show Signs Of Life

Aside from Tyrrell Hatton finishing T-3, the Masters was a disaster for LIV Golf as a whole.

Bryson DeChambeau missed the cut after rounds of 76-74, while Jon Rahm was never a factor after firing an opening round of 78 before finishing T-38.

As far as this week at Aronimink goes, I think things can go one of two ways for the LIV players in the field: one of the high-end players truly mixes on Sunday, or the distractions of the Saudi PIF pulling LIV's funding prove to be a legitimate issue, and nobody shows any form at all.

With talks of this week's course setup being a place where the longer hitters in the field don't have to necessarily emphasize accuracy, it should set up well for both DeChambeau and Rahm. Your guess is as good as anyone else's as to what we see out of the LIV players this week.

Maybe Rory McIlroy Will Just Be The Major Chaser

Career grand slam winner, back-to-back Masters victories, and just five starts on the PGA Tour so far in 2026. Rory McIlroy hasn't exactly been shy in sending a message about where his career morals lie at this point, and they appear to be strictly on the major championships.

Last week's Truist Championship was his first start since putting on the green jacket in early April, and while his short game was well below his standards, he still managed a T-19 finish, essentially going through the motions.

McIlroy may have found the sweet spot in terms of confidence, preparation, and just overall mindset to build a formula to play his way into the final groups of major Sundays and get legitimate swings in adding another to his resume.

A win at Aronimink this week to actually jumpstart the conversation of the calendar slam would, at the very least, be fun.

It Feels Like A Trap

We do this for most major championships because it's what we want, but it's hardly ever true, and that is that we talk ourselves into things being wide open and that more than a dozen or so guys can actually win the tournament.

In reality, four players in this field are on a much higher pedestal than anyone else entering the week: Scheffler, McIlroy, Young and Fitzpatrick. If we were smart, any picks and wagers would heavily revolve around these four names and these four names over, but we're emotional beings and make dumb decisions sometimes.

My brain, for example, has already come up with the idea that Patrick Cantlay has a very real shot at winning this weekend at Aronimink.

We are in store for a great week, I'm almost sure of it, but the final few holes may be some version of the inevitable outcome we may not have hoped for.

Florida judge rules prosecutors can access Tiger Woods' prescription drug history after DUI arrest: report

A Florida judge reportedly ruled that prosecutors will have access to Tiger Woods' recent prescription drug history.

An April court filing showed that a subpoena was to be issued for Woods' prescription drug records following his DUI arrest in March, but his attorneys fought it. But according to the TC Palm, the records will be released to prosecutors only and not made available to the public.

Woods was arrested for driving under the influence after taking field sobriety tests following a two-vehicle crash in which his Range Rover turned onto its driver's side.

The aforementioned court filing showed that a subpoena will be issued to "seek copies of any and all prescription medication on file" for Woods from Jan. 1 through March 27, the date of his car crash and arrest.

Woods' attorney, Douglas Duncan, wrote in a motion that the subpoena goes against Woods' constitutional rights to privacy, requesting Tuesday's hearing to determine whether prosecutors should be allowed to obtain the records.

Woods told law enforcement that "I take a few" prescription medications amid seven back surgeries and "over 20 operations" on his leg. In 2021, he got into a wreck that resulted in serious leg injuries that kept him off the golf course for the entire year.

He also mentioned that his ankle was fused, and he walks with a limp due to the injuries. Due to the nature of his injuries, authorities made him do a field sobriety test while sitting down. He blew "triple-zeroes," authorities said, but "lethargic" movements warranted exercises anyway.

Woods participated in four exercises before a deputy placed him in handcuffs. The deputy stated she believed Woods was under an "unknown substance."

Deputies found two white pills on Woods, which were later identified as hydrocodone, an opioid used to treat pain.

Woods was granted permission on April 1 to travel out of the country "to enter into comprehensive inpatient treatment."

Woods was charged with driving under the influence, property damage, refusal to submit to testing and careless driving. He pleaded not guilty and waived his arraignment, demanding a trial with a jury.

Keegan Bradley kicks off PGA Championship week with odd quote about the 'smell' of the Northeast

Whether it's rightfully warranted or not, Keegan Bradley has long been looked at as the king of the northeast among PGA Tour players.

With this week's PGA Championship being contested at Aronimink just outside of Philadelphia, it didn't take long for the 39-year-old to be asked about the geographical location of the year's second major. To his credit, Bradley delivered a unique answer to a question about a topic he's been asked about countless times in his career.

"Definitely," Bradley began after being asked if he feels a different energy when playing in the Northeast. "Yeah, I even went out on my deck today when I was at my house, and I could smell, like, the northeast. I could smell the grass. It was different."

If this isn't a sign that Bradley has officially been asked about golf in the Northeast one too many times, I'm not sure what is.

Bradley hails from Vermont, played collegiately at St. John's in New York, and claims Boston as his pro sports city, checking all of the Northeast boxes available. He also won the 2018 BMW Championship held at Aronimink and has won the Travelers Championship twice, which is held in Connecticut.

"I take extreme pride and I feel a lot of weight to represent New England and the northeast in the golf world, because there's not that many of us," Bradley continued. "I feel like I have a duty to the younger generation and people that are growing up to show them that, you know, we can compete from being around here.

"It's difficult, but I do feel when I come here, not just the courses suit me a lot better here and my career, because this is how I grew up playing. But I do feel a duty to represent the area. Philly is a little bit south for me but I'll take it. It's northeast to me."

Bradley's last significant trip to the Northeast did not go as planned.

Tasked with being the captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup team at Bethpage Black in 2025, Bradley's American side was embarrassed during the opening two days of the biennial event before putting together a near comeback for the ages during Sunday's action.

The Americans ultimately fell to the Europeans 15-13.

From bikini golf all the way to the pages of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, the hard work she's put in after slipping into swim-related attire continues to pay off for her.

The golf WAG and former SI Swimsuit Rookie of the Year is back for her third consecutive appearance in the 2026 issue of the iconic magazine. Achieving her dream of one day modeling for the brand hasn’t caused her to pump the brakes on her bikini content. Not at all.

That takes us to Monday afternoon and Jena proving that point by sharing behind-the-scenes content on social media in the form of a bikini parade from this year's fitting. It's launch week after all, this is the perfect content to get things started.

This is exactly what you expect to see on social media from an SI Swimsuit veteran to start the week off. It's what we used to refer to as leadership. Some people have lost sight of that, Jena is not one of them. She still knows a thing or two about properly setting the tone with content.

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit has its own launch week festivities planned too. They announced last week that each of the galleries for the models would be dropping on Tuesday, May 12, along with the official launch.

The brand also announced SI Swimsuit Social Club events, which are planned for May 15 and 16 in New York City. These events will reportedly feature live shows and meet-and-greets with the models.

In other words, there's a lot more to come throughout the week.

Jena Sims could have dropped her behind-the-scenes content and called it a week, but she's not going to do that. In addition to whatever else she may share content-wise, she's on the list of models showing up for meet-and-greets later this week.

Happy NFL schedule release week to all who celebrate! What? You're not fired up for it? Come on! One of the best weeks of the year. Get your heads right!

Fine. It's not that great, but it's something. It ain't exactly a busy time of year on the sports calendar. Yes, I know the NBA playoffs are going on. Again, it ain't a busy time of year.

And while I do love the NHL playoffs, the Panthers aren't in it this season, so my admittedly pink-hat fandom is taking this year off. At least I'm honest.

So, I instead choose to latch onto the NFL schedule release later this week. Frankly, I'm just trying to bridge the gap to my vacation later this month. Sure, it's a "vacation" with four other families and a dozen kids all under one roof for a week, but a "vacation" nonetheless.

Let's start bridging the gap, and get this week going.

Paige Spiranac is ready for a big week of PGA Championship golf

Hope everyone had a big Mother's Day Sunday. We smoked a pork butt down here, which, to be fair, was a lot more enjoyable in Florida back in March when it was 65 degrees outside. I got in the car Saturday afternoon and the dial said 104. I ain't kidding.

I've lived here my whole life. May 11 is a tad early for this, but it is what it is. Patriots adapt and adjust. Welcome back, summer.

Cowboys-Giants! Unreal. The most predictable game every single year. If the Giants are even moderately interesting, you can almost guarantee that Week 1 is gonna be Cowboys-Giants on SNF. I think it's the NFL rule book at this point.

And for those who think I'm making it up ... these two have now opened the season against each other eight times in the last 15 years. Eight! The last time was 2023, when Dallas won 40-0 on ... Sunday Night Football.

LIV Golf CEO teases announcements in 'next 10 days,' talks Bryson DeChambeau's future with LIV

The future of the LIV Tour and its players has become the most important story in the golf world since news broke that the league was losing its primary source of funding after the 2026 season.

Already, several golfers have addressed the Saudi-backed Public Investment Fund backing out of LIV, either saying they have no interest in returning to the PGA Tour or that they believe in the LIV model.

Jon Rahm, on the other hand, seemed to immediately start making other plans in case LIV isn’t able to replace the PIF funding. After years of fighting with the DP World Tour, Rahm settled their outstanding issues and is once again eligible to compete in those events.

Then there’s Bryson DeChambeau. Undoubtedly the biggest star on LIV, and among the top handful of players in the world in both talent and fan interest, DeChambeau has been somewhat cagey as to his next move. His contract with LIV expires after this season, and when asked about returning to the PGA Tour, was non-committal. If anything, he was dismissive of potential penalties he’d face. He also said he'd be happy to commit to YouTube golf full time to grow his already-impressive channel.

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU REPORTEDLY 'COMPLETELY SHOCKED' BY LIV GOLF COLLAPSE, SIGNALS POTENTIAL FULL-TIME PIVOT TO YOUTUBE

But the current head of LIV Golf, CEO Scott O’Neil, believes DeChambeau is fully committed to staying put.

In a new interview with Alan Bastable at Golf.com, O’Neil spoke about his interest in staying with LIV and contract negotiations.

"Discussions with players are constantly in motion, though DeChambeau's situation naturally commands the most spotlight," O’Neil said. "He has proven to be an exceptional partner, arguably the most popular figure in the sport today. He is winning, embraces the team format, and remains a staunch believer in the LIV vision."

"Bryson is more pro-LIV than I am," O’Neil continued. Surprisingly, DeChambeau also expressed interest in joining meetings with potential new investors. "We actually spoke yesterday [Tuesday] about him joining me for meetings with potential investors," O’Neil explained.. "I believe that will serve as a definitive indicator of exactly what’s going to transpire."

O’Neil also told Bastable that he does have a number in mind that LIV needs to get from outside investors to continue operating, but wouldn’t share the specifics. There are any number of challenges to face, he said, including finding the best fit when it comes to potential partners and focusing on where LIV creates value.

For O’Neil, that’s in expanding the sport to "markets previously starved for elite competition" and honing in on "introducing the concept of team golf to a global audience." LIV, he believes, can make team golf a "permanent fixture." As well as tapping into "nationalism."

"In Australia, fans are out in droves, donning Rippers gear and supporting Cam Smith and his squad with unrivaled intensity. The same energy is felt in South Africa, where national anthems and emotional displays on the first tee suggest that the league has tapped into something truly unique," he said.

PGA TOUR CEO ADDRESSES LIV GOLF'S UNCERTAIN FUTURE, PLAYERS POTENTIALLY RETURNING

Surprisingly, O’Neil also said that when he took the job in January 2025, he was surprised to see that internal documents showed that the tour’s "biggest critics" made offers to play.

"I looked at all the players who wanted to play for LIV, many of whom would surprise you quite a bit,’ he said. "Our biggest critics all made offers to come play, all of them, every one of them."

Does that mean players like Rory McIlroy or Tiger Woods? Scottie Scheffler? Adam Scott? Players that have formed the core leadership of the PGA Tour and are building up signature events or other changes on Tour in response to LIV’s model? O’Neil didn’t name anyone specifically, but it’s an interesting revelation nonetheless.

Finally, Bastable asked him what he’d do differently if he were starting LIV up from scratch. O’Neil gave another fascinating answer, implying there are some imminent announcements on the horizon, "I would say a lot of what you’ll see in the next 10 days or so is exactly what we would have built from scratch from the beginning," he said.

O’Neil’s job is to keep LIV functioning and growing in the wake of the PIF announcement, which means his point of view is obviously slanted in that direction. He repeatedly stressed that he’s enjoying the challenge of putting more funding options together. But if DeChambeau is committed enough to join investor meetings, that’s a good sign for keeping it going past 2026. Or maybe O’Neil is being too optimistic, and DeChambeau wants to see for himself what kind of financial future LIV offers.

It’s a fascinating story with major ramifications, and where it goes from here is anyone’s guess. But if O’Neil is serious about the "next 10 days or so," we might not have to wait long to find out.

Newest PGA Tour winner Kristoffer Reitan comes from a billionaire family with unique story

Kristoffer Reitan earned $3.6 million by winning the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow for his maiden victory on the PGA Tour. While that sort of payday would be life-changing for the overwhelming majority of humans walking the planet, Reitan is the exception, thanks to his historic and incredibly lucrative family business.

The 28-year-old's professional golf journey isn't necessarily a unique one. After passing on playing college golf at the University of Texas and turning professional, he went through European Tour qualifying school in 2018. He then went on to play on the Challenge Tour as well, before earning his DP World Tour card in 2024.

In 2025, Reitan won on the DP World Tour for the first time and finished the season ranked eighth in the Race to Dubai standings, giving him a PGA Tour card for 2026, which he has taken full advantage of now with a victory and three other top-15 finishes.

Reitan undoubtedly grinded inside the ropes to where he is today, ranked 25th in the world, but outside the ropes, he didn't exactly have the financial pressures that most do when chasing the dream of playing professional golf at the highest level.

Reitan's grandfather is a man by the name of Odd Reitan. Anyone living outside of Scandinavia probably does not recognize the name, but those who do are well aware of Odd and the Reitan family.

In 1979, Odd established a grocery chain store called REMA 1000. Eleven years later, every village in Norway with more than 10,000 residents had a REMA 1000 shop before it expanded into Denmark, Hungary, Poland, Sweden and Slovakia before the turn of the 21st century. Odd's son, Ole, is the director of REMA 1000.

The chain of grocery stores that Odd now solely owns, known as Reitangruppen, employs 38,000 people.

In 2004, Reitan Convenience, another endeavor, took charge of the brands Narvesen and 7-Eleven. Two years later, Reitan bought Hydro Texaco in Norway and Denmark, and the investment proved to be a fortunate one, all while Reitan Convenience continued to thrive, before Reitan Kapital was established in 2016. Kristoffer's father, Magnus Reitan, is the CEO of Reitan Kapital.

All in all, the Reitan family has taken a very firm hold in five different business areas since the late 1970s, making Odd Reitan and his family the 383rd wealthiest group in the world with a net worth of $9.1 billion, according to Forbes.

Reitan wins after nearly quitting for YouTube, Snedeker's well-earned cry, and early PGA Championship hype

Kristoffer Reitan made his 15th career PGA Tour start last week at the Truist Championship, and left Quail Hollow on Sunday $3.6 million richer as the winner of a signature event and a player who now has his foreseeable future mapped out. That's not too bad for a guy who was strongly considering just doing YouTube golf full-time three years ago.

In Myrtle Beach, a stretch of 2,821 days was broken with Brandt Snedeker earning his first win on the PGA Tour since 2018. The Nashville native was overcome with emotion, and given what his body has been through in recent years, it was certainly understandable to see the tears flowing. A 45-year-old Snedeker winning on Tour in the year 2026 was not on anyone's bingo card.

As time somehow keeps moving faster and faster, we've already arrived at the year's second major championship. That music you hear is Michael Block's. It's PGA Championship week, and for the first time in a long time, there is some juice behind it thanks to the venue, and we have a few early thoughts to get to before diving headfirst into content throughout the week.

Take A Bow, Brandt Snedeker

No disrespect to Kristoffer Reitan, but when Brandt Snedeker wins a golf tournament, he's getting the leadoff spot every single time in Par Talk.

Just like every other golf kid born in the early '90s, Tiger Woods was the guy for me growing up. Still, when I started taking the game semi-seriously as a teenager and also began looking beyond the first page of leaderboards, the Tour visor-wearing guy who made every single putt he looked at became my favorite player to watch. It has been that way ever since.

As random as it is, I still have clear memories of watching Snedeker earn his first win in 2007 from the dingy clubhouse of a nine-hole course with my dad and his buddies in my hometown. I sure as hell remember the 2008 Masters when he dumped it into the creek in front of the 13th green on both Saturday and Sunday before ultimately finishing T-3. Trevor Immelman went on to win by three shots in 2008 with Snedeker shooting 77 in the final round.

My dad, brother, and I actually got a 2008 Masters hat signed by Immelman and Snedeker later that year.

Snedeker sobbed like a baby during a brief meeting with the media following his heartbreak at Augusta in '08. That video used to live on YouTube somewhere. Maybe it was removed so it would never hit my algorithm again.

Fast-forward 18 years, with a FedEx Cup trophy on his mantel and the title of Presidents Cup captain to his name, Snedeker sobbed like a baby again. Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach may not be the stage Augusta National is, but as the venue for his 10th victory on Tour and first in nearly eight years, it's a special one for Snedeker.

Snedeker underwent an experimental surgery on his sternum in 2022 in which doctors took a bone out of his hip, cut his sternum open and essentially built, and essentially built a new one in its place with the piece of his hip bone. On top of that, the undefeated Father Time reared his ugly head, and it felt like the senior circuit may be the next time Snedeker would have a real chance of winning a tournament.

There have been flashes in 2026, but it all fell into place in Myrtle Beach with a pair of 66s and 67s to earn a one-shot victory over Mark Hubbard. Snedeker got it done in his standard fashion, ranking 74th in distance off the tee and fourth in putting.

"To not have my card the last couple of years, to be struggling to do what I love, you know, to still have a passion to play this game the way I want to play it and to show people how I can still do it, especially not playing my best and struggling the way I did to come back and fight, claw my way back and play some great golf this year even though it hasn't seemed like it to people outside," Snedeker said after his win.

"I knew I was playing well. I just hadn't been able to put it all together. Hopefully it shows my family, my kids something. Just, you know, ten wins out here is an accomplishment. Something I'm very proud of."

That quote from Sneds says it all.

Kristoffer Reitan Just Burst Onto The Scene

The 28-year-old from Norway had been playing some strong golf over the last month, with three top-15 finishes in his four starts leading up to the Truist Championship, but earning his first victory on Tour in a signature event on a major championship golf course? Come on.

Some may claim that Reitan had the advantage of not having to go toe-to-toe with any big-name players on Sunday, as it was Rickie Fowler, Alex Fitzpatrick and Sungjae Im mixing with him during the final round. On the flip side of that, Reitan played his way to the top of the board, while others simply didn't, and he can't be criticized for that.

Reitan's final-round 69 was enough to get the job done by two shots at Quail Hollow, and it's hard not to be impressed with his play down the stretch. Back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15, followed by three relatively comfortable pars to close things out, is easier said than done.

He had a tremendous stroke of luck on the par-4 16th with his tee shot somehow avoiding a fairway bunker, but every winner gets a lucky break; his just happened to come with a few swings left to make.

In 15 career starts on Tour, Reitan has made 11 cuts, earned a victory in a signature event and has made nearly $5.3 million. Not a bad way to bounce back after nearly giving up on professional golf and just doing YouTube.

"I was, at that point (in 2022), considering whether or not I wanted to continue playing professionally. So, yeah, I just had some thoughts about how to make the game a little bit more fun, a little bit more relaxed," Reittan said following his win.

"Yeah, I think YouTube golf would have given me maybe some of that fun competitiveness back, maybe not the serious competitiveness, if that makes sense. So I was just trying to find ways to make it more fun to give my journey in golf a little bit of energy, and trying to have fun while I'm playing so that I can endure the hardships that follow, yeah, with professional golf."

It's safe to say he made the right decision in continuing the grind of professional golf.

A (Fun?) PGA Championship Week Is Here

It's amazing how such a simple, albeit vastly important factor, can make a golf tournament so much more intriguing.

With each of the previous two PGA Championships being played at golf courses we're all too familiar with (Valhalla and Quail Hollow), this week's event has more excitement around it due to the fact that we haven't seen Aronimink since the 2018 BMW Championship.

You couple that with the fact that it feels like the most wide-open major championship we've had in years, and we could be in store for some fireworks, which is not often said while on the topic of the PGA Championship.

Who knows what version of Scottie Scheffler we get? Rory McIlroy just shot 75 on Saturday at Quail Hollow. Is his game in good enough order to win major No. 7? What about the LIV boys? Aronimink should fit Bryson DeChambeau's game well, but are we sure he even cares? It's a major championship in the Northeast; therefore, a red-hot Cameron Young should be comfortable.

We truly do not know what to expect at Aronimink this week, and the unpredictability levels like this are needed now and again, and certainly so for major championships.
