The lesson isn’t that polls are wrong.

It’s that voters move.

And now comes the part of the campaign when they start moving.

Labor Day is the unofficial beginning of the election season for the people who don’t spend August obsessing over politics.

Which is to say: most people.

They don’t know who won the week. They didn’t see the viral clip. They aren’t refreshing the generic ballot. They have never described themselves as "low-propensity voters."

They’re busy.

And politics has developed a very bad habit of confusing the people who are paying the most attention with the people who will ultimately decide the election.

Which makes what Republicans are doing in Dallas this week fascinating.

For the first time, the GOP is holding a national convention built around a midterm election.

They wanted the stage.

They got it.

Now the question is whether they use it to talk to themselves or to the voters they still need.

That’s the opening.

Republicans can use Dallas to make people who already love Trump cheer louder.

Or they can give people who aren’t sold on Republicans a reason to reconsider.

One produces a great television moment.

The other produces votes.

And that’s what I’ll be watching in every poll from here to November.

Not simply who is ahead.

NFL kickoff game preview: Why the under 44.5 is the play in Seahawks-Patriots rematch

After months of waiting, and me writing roughly 20,000+ words about the upcoming NFL season, with a preview for every team, we have finally reached the opening night of the new NFL year. As usual, it starts with the Super Bowl Champion starting their title defense at home. This year, on NBC, we get the New England Patriots taking on the Seattle Seahawks in a Super Bowl rematch.

The Patriots didn’t take the offseason off after getting to the championship game. They were aggressive in upgrading their offense now that they believe in Drake Maye. They lost Stefon Diggs, but they added AJ Brown, who is still a very good receiver, even if he wasn’t very happy with the Philadelphia Eagles. The bigger offseason story surrounded their head coach, Mike Vrabel, and his alleged affair with reporter Diana Russini.

How all of these distractions and changes come into play will be determined in this game. I think this team has enough talent to battle for the division again. However, this year is different from last season. Last year, the Patriots were a surprise, Maye was an MVP candidate, and the team shocked the league. This year a tougher schedule awaits, and Maye, in my opinion, had the best season of his career last year.

The Seahawks were a buzz saw in the playoffs. They destroyed pretty much everyone, with the exception of the Los Angeles Rams. They completely dismantled and destroyed the San Francisco 49ers in their first playoff game, and then they outlasted the Rams 31-27. In the Super Bowl, they beat the Patriots 29-13. It was a fairly boring game, unfortunately. The Seahawks were never really in jeopardy of losing the game and were up 12-0 after three quarters, scoring just field goals.

Even with a somewhat exciting fourth quarter, it was too little too late for the Patriots, and the Seahawks hoisted the trophy. The Seahawks lost their Super Bowl MVP running back, and they lost their offensive coordinator. That could change things up a bit, as Sam Darnold saw a lot of success last year under him. Defensively, the team should still be strong, but this is a tough division, so we will see how it goes.

Defending Super Bowl Champions are 13-5 in the NFL Kickoff Game. If you look at how they perform overall in the first week, typically they win about 70-80% of the games over the past two decades. Teams that lose the Super Bowl are 10-15. However, they have been a bit better over the past 13 years, going 8-5.

Both of these teams should be carried by their defense. That isn’t to say they have no offense; I just think their defenses will be better earlier in the year. We have Maye, who struggled mightily against this defense, and won’t be great tonight. Then we have Darnold with a new offensive coordinator. I am going to back the under 44.5 in this one. I do think the Seahawks win and cover the -3, but I’ll just back the under. Note that the Seahawks safety Ty Okada is out and Nick Emmanwori is questionable. That could open up the field a bit for the Patriots.

Proposal would pay homeowners 'data center dividends' to counter growing backlash

As opposition to artificial intelligence data centers spreads across rural America, one group is proposing "data center dividends" to counter the backlash by allowing residents to share directly in the wealth generated by the technology hubs.

A new report from the Bitcoin Policy Institute, a think tank based in Washington, D.C., proposes that data center dividends are a model that would return part of the property tax revenue generated by AI data centers directly to households living in the communities that host the data centers, potentially providing annual payments of between about $4,500 and $8,900 per household without creating new taxes or increasing costs for developers.

"Every American deserves to benefit from the AI boom," Sam Lyman, head of research at the nonprofit, told Fox News Digital. "It can't just be the developers in Silicon Valley who are becoming wealthy from this revolution. It needs to be the Americans who are building the county infrastructure that makes these data centers possible in the first place."

The proposal comes as opposition to data centers intensifies nationwide, fomented over the past year by a network of socialists and communist nonprofits funded by a tech tycoon, Neville Roy Singham, living in Shanghai, supporting the Chinese Communist Party and a "new world order" promulgated by Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The opposition has widened to conservatives and centrists, with the report noting that Americans are now more likely to oppose a data center in their community than a nuclear power plant.

In a poll earlier this year, Gallup found that 71% of Americans oppose construction of an AI data center in their area, while only 53% oppose a nearby nuclear plant. The report says local data center moratoriums have exploded from six in 2024 to 59 last year and 294 last month.

Over the past year, groups in the Singham network – including the Party for Socialism and Liberation, the People's Forum, CodePink and BreakThrough News – have opposed data centers and also Flock surveillance cameras with aggressive media campaigns, elevating China as a technological powerhouse and denigrating any developments by U.S. technology companies.

"These influence actions are cognitive warfare. Foreign actors don't need Americans to become pro-China," Rob Joyce, former director of cybersecurity at the National Security Agency, recently told Fox News Digital. "They need Americans to argue for the outcomes Beijing wants. And a free society that can't build the power and govern the advanced technology is going to wind up renting it from the adversary, read the PRC, that doesn't share its own values. And that scares me as an American."

Lyman said the political problem is that many Americans believe technology companies are reaping the benefits of the AI boom while local communities bear the costs. The propaganda campaigns by the pro-China groups are promoting that message by describing tech executives as "oligarchs" and "imperialists." One constant message in the campaigns is "People Over Profits."

"I really think that data center dividends will reverse the momentum in the data center debate, because suddenly every American who lives in these counties where data centers might be built recognizes that he or she can have a material stake in the AI economy," said Lyman, a former senior advisor and speechwriter for Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Polling cited in the report found that 73% of Americans believe the costs of data center construction outweigh the benefits, while voters overwhelmingly believe AI will primarily enrich executives and business owners rather than workers.

Rather than creating a new tax, the proposal would redirect a portion of property tax revenue that counties already collect from data centers. "Data center dividends can ensure that rural Americans rise in the age of AI alongside the engineers developing this technology," the report notes.

Under the model, counties would first continue funding schools, roads, police and other essential services. After those obligations are met, local communities would return a portion of remaining revenue directly to residents through annual checks, direct deposits, tax credits, utility bill credits or permanent investment funds. The report emphasizes that the dividends would be financed entirely from existing tax revenue, meaning developers wouldn't pay any additional taxes.

The report estimates that a single one-gigawatt AI data center could generate enough tax revenue to provide households in a typical rural county between $4,500 and $8,900 annually in a "data center dividend," depending on how much revenue local governments dedicate to dividends after paying for public services.

The estimate is based on tax collections from Loudoun County, Va., one of the nation's largest data center hubs. Loudoun collected about $685 million in personal property taxes on data center computer equipment in fiscal year 2024. Dividing those collections by the county's data center electrical load produced an estimate of roughly $165 million in annual property tax revenue per gigawatt of AI infrastructure, researchers estimated.

The report cites new policies in West Feliciana Parish, La., where policymakers are attempting to spread new-found wealth. The parish expects a Hut 8 AI campus to generate about $90 million annually, more than tripling its current budget, according to estimates. Earlier this year, Louisiana lawmakers passed Act 434, allowing local officials to provide property tax credits funded by the new revenue, although lawmakers removed an earlier proposal that would have authorized direct cash payments.

If the cash provision had remained, the report estimates households could have received about $5,600 annually if one-quarter of the revenue were distributed, or $11,200 annually if half the revenue were shared with residents after funding government services.

In another example, Alaska has a "Permanent Fund," or state-owned investment account that collects part of Alaska's revenues from oil produced on state land, invests it in stocks, bonds and real estate, and disburses part of the returns to residents as an annual dividend.

The report outlines several options communities could adopt.

Cash payments. Residents could receive annual dividend checks or direct deposits similar to the payments from Alaska's "Permanent Fund."
Property tax credits. Local governments could reduce residents' property tax bills using data center revenue, similar to Louisiana's approach.
Utility bill credits. Counties could apply the money directly to electricity bills, benefiting both homeowners and renters while addressing concerns that data centers increase electricity costs. The report notes that a $4,500 dividend would cover the average American household's electric bill for more than two years.
Education funds. Communities could place the money into scholarship endowments guaranteeing college tuition for local graduates.
Permanent investment funds. Counties could invest the tax revenue and distribute only investment earnings, creating an enduring source of local wealth similar to Alaska's Permanent Fund even if the data center eventually closes.

Lyman argues that direct payments create stronger public support than simply lowering taxes or expanding government spending because residents would see the benefit. "I think a lot that opposition is born from the fact that many Americans feel left out of the AI boom. They feel like this economic revolution is taking place without them," said Lyman, noting, "What data center dividends do... is they give every American in rural America a share in the material prosperity that is taking place with artificial intelligence."

The report notes that rural counties possess two scarce assets essential for AI development – land and abundant power – and argues those communities should share directly in the economic gains generated by the AI buildout.

Lindsay Clancy lawyer says he plans new motion to dismiss after jurors speak out on mistrial: report

Jurors continue to speak out in the days after a mistrial was declared for Massachusetts mom Lindsay Clancy in the strangling deaths of her three children, 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan.

The panel of nine women and three men deadlocked after splitting 11-1, but one woman, identified as Juror No. 5, told local media that the holdout at the end of deliberations wasn't the only one who initially thought Clancy was guilty.

Based on some of their statements, Clancy's defense attorney Kevin Reddington told CBS Mornings Wednesday that he would file a new motion to dismiss on double jeopardy grounds.

"I would defend that person's right to be a holdout for a month," Reddington said in his CBS interview. "That's what the system is based on, but when the forelady indicated clearly and unequivocally in the jury question that this person had doubt, reasonable doubt as we know now, and just refused to listen to the judge's instruction on the law, that's when I was upset."

Reddington did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

"The stand-alone juror was not the only one that was unwilling to see things from the other side, so I'm going to kind of defend that individual in a sense," she told the Boston-based WBZ-TV. "There were some big personalities in that room, but at the end of the day, it just came down to an inability to move past your convictions."

She, too, was originally in favor of a guilty verdict, she told the outlet.

Three others, including the jury foreperson, sat down for a televised interview with NBC 10 Boston Tuesday, accusing the lone holdout juror of "admitting he had reasonable doubt" but refused to budge from insisting Clancy was criminally responsible for strangling Cora, Dawson and Callan.

They called him "arrogant" and accused him of disregarding information from "nurses on the jury."

A sobering warning from Sandra Bullock’s sister became a wake-up call for the actress as she quietly navigated her late partner Bryan Randall’s battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Bullock reflected on how caring for Randall through his illness forced her to recognize her own limits – and ultimately ask for help after years of putting others first.

"I'm always a caretaker," she said during an appearance on "Good Hang with Amy Poehler." "Always. And I learned that I didn't take care of the person that was taking care of everybody else. And that was a big wake-up call for me. And I'm not good at asking for help, but I needed help and I needed to ask it in a way that was safe."

"The caretaker world is absolutely underserved," Bullock said. "I did what I had to do in the situation I was in."

"There's so much to the story that would be of service. But my story, my slice of pie – and me and the kids, you know – that's all we can speak about."

Bullock revealed her minimal history as a caregiver during a recent episode of the "SmartLess" podcast.

"I'm a very good planner with illness because my father was ill and had horrible accidents and my mother had cancer – I feel like I'm very comfortable in a setting where someone is ill," she told the hosts. Randall had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, amid the COVID-19 pandemic and requested Bullock not make the news public. He died on Aug. 5, 2023. He was 57.

"I wasn't allowed to speak about it," she revealed on the podcast. "That was the request, and I honored it."

But honoring Randall’s wishes came with a personal cost for Bullock.

"I know why he asked me not to... it isolated me in the process and, plus, the entire world was locked in with the pandemic," she said. "He was ill for half of our relationship and the diagnosis came almost at the same time with the cloak of the pandemic."

Bullock admitted that "not talking for a while was good," but the physical illness coupled with "the mental health aspect" created a "trifecta that was pretty dark."

Fmr Biden ambassador blames Trump for Canada playing 'footsie' with China

Former U.S. Ambassador to Canada David L. Cohen is blaming the Trump administration's hardline trade pressure for pushing Ottawa into engaging with China.

"I think Canada has tentatively tried to play some footsie with China that the Trump administration may not be happy with," Cohen, who served as President Joe Biden’s ambassador to Canada from 2021 to 2025, said in an interview with Fox News Digital.

"There is a discomfort with that," Cohen says, while arguing that it is ultimately Canada's reflex to sentiment against President Donald Trump – particularly his hardline trade policies and rhetoric about the neighbor to the north being a "51st state."

VANCE SAYS CANADA FRIENDLIER TO CHINA ON TRADE THAN TO US: 'INSANITY'

"One of downsides of the aggressive Trump administration treatment of Canada and many other allies and partners is that the irony is that those policies are pushing those countries to at least consider broader and larger deals with China, which of course is wholly inconsistent with a major thrust of President Trump's international trade policy," Cohen continued. "So, how that shakes out, it's all a matter of degree and balance.

"But I think there's no doubt that the aggressiveness of the Trump administration positions has caused many countries to at least reevaluate whether there are additional deals that can be made with China."

The comments come as U.S.-Canada trade tensions spiral after negotiations collapsed last month. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday accused Washington of seeking dependence rather than partnership.

"The most fundamental issue is that the cumulative U.S. demands revealed that they wanted us to become even more reliant on them, not less," Carney said. "In too many areas, they wanted dependency, not a true economic partnership."

Notably, the fallout comes just weeks before Chinese dictator Xi Jinping makes an historic trip to the White House to talk trade – something that never happened during the Biden administration despite Biden's onetime quip before the COVID-19 pandemic that "China's not bad folks."

Vice President JD Vance, speaking in Maine last month, accused Canada of giving Chinese goods better treatment than products from American northern border states.

"They treat Chinese goods more fairly than they do the goods that come from the people of Maine: It’s insanity," Vance said. "And what we’ve said to Canada is, ‘Stop it.’"

Cohen, however, was careful not to cast Canada as blameless in the trade feud. He admitted U.S. dairy farmers have legitimate complaints about Canada’s tariff-rate quota system, saying the issue has frustrated administrations of both parties for years.

"This is one of the totally legitimate trade issues that exists between the United States and Canada," Cohen said. "There is contention there that is hurting American dairy farmers. Yes, I will be honest and clear about that."

"That tension existed under Joe Biden. Was he able to solve that problem? No," he added. "It was something that was discussed and discussed more than once. We just never got there."

Cohen, supportive of Trump's "substance" on trade talks but not the "style," did credit Trump for replacing NAFTA with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, calling USMCA a "terrific deal" that improved continental trade.

"I gave President Trump a lot of credit for that because it was a much better deal than NAFTA," Cohen said. "I think he deserves credit for that."

"I do push back at times on some of the rhetoric that President Trump has chosen to use, not necessarily the substance, but maybe the style that he sometimes uses to pursue his substance," he added.

"There are such fundamental differences on the substance of President Trump’s trade policy that I think the treatment of President Trump is different than the treatment of President Biden," Cohen observed. "But when professional negotiators were in the room, they seemed to have been making a lot of progress."

Cohen believes the two sides need to return to professional negotiators, arguing that U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Canadian officials had shown they could discuss difficult issues before the talks broke down.

"I have an enormous amount of respect for U.S. Trade Representative Greer," Cohen said. "He is the ultimate professional trade negotiator, which is why he’s in that job. He didn’t get there by accident. President Trump put him in that job."

By contrast, Cohen said Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick – who was on the call that Friday night in August when talks broke down at the 11th hour – needs to stay in his lane.

"Secretary of Commerce Lutnick, with all due respect, is not a professional negotiator," Cohen said. "That’s not the Commerce secretary’s job. It’s USTR’s job to negotiate trade deals with other countries."

Lutnick has suggested in interviews about the infamous breakdown in talks that Canadians' politics are at play in keeping Carney from cutting a deal with Trump, a man the provincial leaders and Canadian public have long been disenchanted with.

"Friday at 4 o'clock, the Canadians call: They start adding crazy ideas to the mix," Lutnick said recently. "So, I said to one of the ministers, 'Are you actually trying to blow this up?' And his answer to me was, 'I'm not allowed to say that.' And they blew it up for political reasons only."

Cohen said of Lutnick's account that "until proven otherwise, I take every senior government official at his word, period," and that he has "no way of knowing whether that is true or not."

But, he admitted, Carney taking the nearly finished trade deal back to the provinces did not go over well – particularly amid his rising popularity among Canadians for being an anti-Trump force – because "the premiers of the provinces have more sway in federal policy than most governors do in federal policy."

"It appears that Canada made the decision that the deal that was being offered was not a deal that they could accept," Cohen said. "He may have made a judgment that although he and his team had pushed this deal as far as they could, and that it was, in his eyes, as good a deal as he was going to get at that point, that he could not sell that politically in Canada."

"That’s not the same as saying that he was walking away for political reasons," Cohen added. "It’s just the nature of a big, complex negotiation."

Ultimately, Cohen said the breakdown between the closest allies and trade partners in the world will be a story long told.

"There are going to be books written about what caused the negotiations to fall apart," he said. "But independent of all the dialogue about that: There is no dispute that these professional negotiators were able to have a civil relationship and talk about really different difficult substantive issues out of the eyes and the ears of the press and with full respect for each other and for the countries. That's my vision for the way in which trade negotiations should occur and they did occur – and it was a two-way street."

Eventually, after the trade-war barbs and tariffs fly and the dust settles, the "professional negotiators" will get things done, Cohen predicted.

"You can’t make a deal if you’re not talking to each other," Cohen said. "Of that, I am 100% certain."

A judge hiked accused wife killer Barry Morphew's bond to $10 million after he allegedly fled a crash following an airport run to pick up his daughter.

A grand jury indicted Barry Morphew on June 20, 2025, on a charge of first-degree murder after deliberation in connection with the death of his wife, Suzanne Morphew, 49, a mother of two daughters. Suzanne Morphew vanished on Mother's Day 2020 in Colorado, where the couple resided. Barry Morphew was taken into custody in Goodyear, Arizona, nearly 11 hours away from the location where his wife was last seen.

Prosecutors allege that Barry Morphew was involved in a hit-and-run accident on Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m., when an individual observed him driving "aggressively" before striking two cars. CBS News obtained a video of the driver's interaction with Morphew where he refused to give his name or identification, also indicating he didn't have insurance. He was arrested by Boulder County sheriff's deputies on Sept. 3 and remains behind bars.

Officials said Barry Morphew offered the other driver $300 for damage caused to her car, which she refused. Barry Morphew was seen on video buffing scratches on the other driver's car with a T-shirt and his hand.

Alamosa County District Judge Amanda Hopkins on Tuesday increased Barry Morphew's bond to $10 million cash after prosecutor Fred Johnson argued that he is a flight risk and could leave the country.

"Mr. Morphew has shown time and again that he has no respect for any order of this court, and he is not going to comply with it if it is an inconvenience to the lifestyle he wishes to live while out on bond," Hopkins said.

Barry Morphew's lawyers argued that he is not a flight risk, stating that he hasn't fled over a period of five years and said the recent accusation doesn't warrant an increase in bond.

Prosecutors wrote in the June 2025 indictment that the chemicals butorphanol, azaperone and medetomidine were found in Suzanne Morphew's bone marrow. They alleged that Barry Morphew used "BAM" deer tranquilizer to sedate and transport deer on his farm when he lived in Indiana. He has pleaded not guilty to one count of first-degree murder.

Morphew was also the only person with a prescription for the deer tranquilizer within the area of the state he lived in, prosecutors said. The only two other entities with access to the BAM compound within the surrounding counties were Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the National Park Service, officials said.

"Ultimately, the prescription records show that when Suzanne Morphew disappeared, only one private citizen living in that entire area of the state had access to BAM: Barry Morphew," the indictment states.

$54M CodePink-linked foundation shut down in California pops up at ramshackle Miami home

A far-left foundation that bankrolled CodePink and recently reported $54.6 million in assets before being shut down by California regulators has resurfaced at a ramshackle Miami home.

Arc of Justice, led by CodePink co-founder Susan Medea Benjamin, lost its charitable registration after years of failing to file required financial paperwork with California. But what appears to be the same nonprofit is now registered at a small, single-story house owned by Benjamin's longtime partner and fellow activist, Tighe Barry, documents viewed by Fox News Digital show.

The sequence of events raises questions about why it fell out of compliance in California.

Arc of Justice has poured millions of dollars into left-wing and progressive activist organizations over the years, including CodePink, Global Exchange, the Alliance for Global Justice and the National Iranian American Council, according to IRS filings. Federal tax returns provided to Fox News Digital by Arc of Justice's attorney show the California foundation's assets grew from $51.4 million at the end of 2023 to $54.6 million at the end of 2024, while it continued distributing millions of dollars in grants.

CodePink has campaigned against U.S. policy toward China and Cuba and has been accused by congressional investigators of promoting Chinese Communist Party interests — allegations the group has denied.

Benjamin, who has been a political activist for decades and has often disrupted congressional hearings, co-founded CodePink with Jodie Evans, the wife of Shanghai-based Marxist tech tycoon Neville Roy Singham, whose funding network has come under congressional and federal scrutiny over alleged foreign influence and the use of tax-exempt organizations.

Now it’s Arc of Justice’s finances that are coming under the microscope.

"It's pretty unusual. Most private foundations are fairly scrupulous on their compliance efforts," Patrick Sternal, a former IRS official who specialized in tax-exempt organizations, told Fox News Digital. "So it's unusual for a private foundation with that much in the bank to fall out of compliance and to be suspended."

Registration revoked in California

The California Attorney General's Office, led by Democrat Rob Bonta, revoked Arc of Justice's charitable registration in January 2025 after it failed to submit required annual filings with the state for 2020 through 2024. The foundation had already been suspended for more than a year before the revocation. The state Attorney General's Office told Fox News Digital that Arc of Justice had continually failed to respond to the registry's delinquency and suspension notices before its registration was revoked.

Under the revocation, Arc of Justice had 30 days to provide the state with an accounting of its charitable assets and was barred from distributing or spending them without the attorney general's prior written approval.

The years of noncompliance culminated in another notice from California regulators on June 19, 2026, reiterating the outstanding asset-accounting requirement and warning that Arc of Justice couldn’t distribute or spend charitable assets without the attorney general's written approval.

The notice said Arc of Justice would also have to provide regulators with enough information to assure the state that there had been "no loss of charitable assets" if it sought to have its registration reinstated. The Network Contagion Research Institute previously detailed Arc of Justice's regulatory problems in a May report examining the foundation's finances and activities.

David Levitt, an attorney representing Arc of Justice, said the foundation has submitted filings seeking reinstatement with California regulators.

The Attorney General's Office told Fox News Digital on Sept. 3, 2026, that it had not received the required accounting of Arc's charitable assets. At the time, Arc was listed as "REVOKED" and "PAST DUE." As of Sept. 9, its registration remained "REVOKED," while its reporting status had changed to "IN REVIEW."

California's reinstatement rules require a revoked charity to explain why it failed to comply with reporting requirements and respond to Registry notices.

Laurie Styron, CEO and executive director of nonprofit watchdog CharityWatch, said Arc's substantial assets made the compliance failures difficult to explain.

"A foundation with tens of millions of dollars in charitable assets certainly has the resources to comply with basic reporting requirements," she said.

Fox News Digital asked Levitt to provide documentation of the reinstatement filings and to explain specifically why Arc of Justice failed to make the required California filings in the first place. He had not responded to those questions by publication time.

New nonprofit surfaces in Florida

California's latest compliance notice to Arc of Justice came just six weeks after a new Arc of Justice surfaced in Florida.

On May 8, Barry and other people associated with the original foundation incorporated a new nonprofit bearing the same name in the Little River neighborhood in North Miami.

The timing raised obvious questions: Was the California foundation moving to Florida after its charitable registration was revoked, and what was happening to its assets?

The Attorney General's Office told Fox News Digital it had not received notice from Arc of Justice of any planned transfer, merger or dissolution and had not approved any transfer of the foundation's assets.

Levitt told Fox News Digital that the Florida corporation was created as a "placeholder" while Arc considered relocating its operations from California, but the move was never completed. He said the California corporation was never formally wound down, no assets were transferred and the Florida entity "holds no assets and has conducted no business."

"Arc of Justice, the California nonprofit corporation, currently still holds the assets," Levitt said, adding that they remain professionally managed "in the same accounts they have been in for years."

Levitt subsequently provided Fox News Digital with financial documentation that independently verified that the California foundation continues to hold the assets.

The Miami address wasn't new. The original Arc of Justice had been using Barry's property on its federal tax filings since at least 2017, even as it remained incorporated in California.

Federal filing questions

Questions have also emerged about the original foundation's federal filings.

Arc of Justice's Forms 990-PF for 2023 and 2024 were not publicly available in the IRS database when Fox News Digital searched for them. Levitt subsequently provided Fox News Digital with copies of both returns.

According to Levitt, Arc of Justice's accountant said both returns had been paper-filed and electronically filed, although Fox News Digital has not independently verified when the IRS received or accepted them.

Benjamin was adamant in a phone interview with Fox News Digital that Arc of Justice had filed its returns every year.

"I'm 100% positive. We have filed the 990s every single year," Benjamin said. She also told Fox News Digital she would make sure the missing returns were provided, which they subsequently were.

Benjamin was less certain about the foundation's California regulatory problems, saying she had moved to Florida and that "the lawyer knows more than I do."

After reviewing the newly produced returns, Sternal said the documents showed Arc of Justice's accountant had at least made an effort to file them, but said questions remained over whether and when they were actually submitted.

"Maybe they are trying to get back into compliance with the IRS," Sternal said. "They still have a lot of clean up to do with California."

Styron similarly said determining when the returns were actually filed was critical to assessing Arc of Justice's compliance. She noted that IRS and state databases can lag behind submissions but said delays of several years would be unusual.

"It would be tough to say more without knowing when forms were signed and filed," Styron said.

While the new records accounted for the foundation's assets and provided the previously unavailable returns, questions remained over when the federal returns were actually filed.

Styron also said Arc of Justice's explanation for creating the Florida nonprofit did not absolve the California foundation's board of its responsibility to file the active organization's required forms on time.

Meanwhile, Sternal, who is now a nonprofit tax attorney at law firm Holtzman Vogel who advises nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations, said there is nothing wrong or unusual about forming a nonprofit in another state. What raises questions, he said, is whether the new Florida organization is intended to take over the original foundation or its assets — a move that would trigger additional legal requirements.

"It's not so easy," Sternal said. "It can be done, it's possible, but there are a lot of hoops that they have to jump through."

Because Arc of Justice remained a California corporation, Sternal said it would have to work with California's attorney general before transferring funds to another organization or moving the foundation out of state.

Same name, new home

Along with the new Florida corporation bearing the same Arc of Justice name and Miami address used by the embattled California foundation, two of its three officers also held positions with the original organization.

Maya Danaher, Benjamin's daughter and former treasurer of the original Arc of Justice, is president of the new Florida corporation.

Jonathan Raggett, who served as secretary of the original foundation, is now its treasurer.

Benjamin served as president of the original California foundation but is not listed as an officer of the new Florida corporation.

Meanwhile, Benjamin's longtime partner, Barry, was not listed as an officer of the original foundation but serves as secretary of the new organization. He is also listed as incorporating Arc of Justice in Florida and serves as its registered agent.

Its stated goal is blunt: "WE ARE HERE TO SUPPORT SOCIAL JUSTICE NON PROFITS," according to the articles of incorporation.

All three officers list the Miami house as their address — a 1,334-square-foot Miami duplex owned by Barry, property records show.

When Fox News Digital visited last month, the small, turquoise-blue, single-story house sat partially obscured by thick palms and tropical plants behind a weathered, multicolored wooden fence.

Fading artwork of colorful cats, pigs, flowers, hearts and peace symbols covered the fence, including a pink pig holding a "ONE LOVE" sign. A large "PEACE" poster hung on the house, while a turquoise-shaded canopy stretched across the property.

Two campaign signs for Democrat Kendrick Meek Jr., who unsuccessfully ran in the Democratic primary election for Florida's 24th Congressional District, stood outside.

Google Street View images from 2022 show the property in brighter colors before the paint faded and vegetation obscured parts of the fence.

The images also show a small white van with its front bumper missing parked outside, with "CODEPINK" written across its side in pink marker along with the Spanish words "Cuba vive y trabaja" — "Cuba lives and works."

The van was not visible when Fox News Digital visited.

The house's number was painted vertically on the weathered front gate — the same address listed by the original California foundation and the newly incorporated Florida Arc of Justice.

Where did the money come from?

Arc of Justice was formerly known as The Benjamin Fund, Inc., with California corporate records showing the foundation formally changed its name in November 2019.

Its fortune was built largely on Benjamin family money.

Benjamin's father, Alvin Benjamin, was a prominent Long Island real estate developer who founded The Benjamin Companies in the early 1960s. The Benjamin Fund's initial 2003 IRS return shows he contributed a partnership interest valued at $683,715 to the foundation, with Medea Susan Benjamin serving as president.

Much larger contributions followed. In 2010, the estate of Benjamin's mother, Rose Benjamin, contributed $10,863,060, according to the foundation's IRS filing. Five years later, the Estate of Alvin Benjamin contributed another $15 million, followed by another $8,603,450 in 2019.

The foundation's wealth also grew through its investments. In 2020, Arc of Justice reported $12,344,501 in unrealized gains on securities, helping push its year-end assets to nearly $40 million.

Medea Benjamin — identified as Susan Benjamin on the filing — personally contributed $1 million to Arc of Justice in 2022, listing the Miami house as her address.

The foundation subsequently became a vehicle for funding activist organizations, including Global Exchange, the advocacy group Benjamin co-founded with her then-husband, Kevin Danaher. The organization remains active today, with Danaher still serving on its board, according to its 2024 Form 990.

Benjamin later co-founded CodePink in 2002 with Evans and has remained one of the anti-war group's most prominent activists and public faces.

Arc of Justice would go on to pour substantial sums into CodePink, including $251,500 in 2020 and $355,350 in 2022, according to the foundation's IRS filings.

The newly obtained returns show that Arc of Justice gave CodePink $277,580 in 2023 and another $350,000 in 2024.

CodePink has itself come under federal scrutiny. Benjamin traveled to Cuba in March with fellow CodePink co-founder Evans and far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker as part of a roughly 170-person convoy to the communist-run island.

Benjamin later confirmed that the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control, which enforces U.S. sanctions against Cuba, sent CodePink a detailed inquiry seeking information about the trip's financing, logistics, participants and activities.

Benjamin said the group brought about $600,000 worth of humanitarian aid to Cuba and described the Treasury inquiry as "serious," while also calling it an "intimidation tactic."

Evans and a network of nonprofits funded by her husband, Singham, have also come under congressional and federal scrutiny.

Singham, an American tech entrepreneur who sold his software company ThoughtWorks for an estimated $785 million in 2017 and now lives in Shanghai, has directed at least $278 million into six core nonprofits that Fox News Digital previously reported promote socialist, communist and pro-China causes as part of a broader international network of media organizations, activist groups and think tanks.

CodePink is one of those nonprofits.

The congressional investigation remains ongoing, while Singham is separately under federal criminal investigation. Neither Singham nor CodePink has been charged with wrongdoing in connection with the investigations described here.

Same name, separate entity

Florida officials confirmed the new Arc of Justice was created as a Florida nonprofit on May 8, 2026, rather than simply registering the existing California corporation in the state.

"That entity is on our records as a Domestic Nonprofit corporation. It is a Florida entity," Florida Department of State regulatory specialist LaCori Brown told Fox News Digital.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services separately told Fox News Digital that the new Arc of Justice isn’t currently registered to solicit charitable contributions in the state and has not applied for a charitable solicitation registration or exemption.

The department also said it hasn’t received any filings identifying assets transferred from the California Arc of Justice to the new Florida corporation nor any complaints, referrals or regulatory inquiries concerning the new organization.

Sternal stressed that the available records don’t establish that Arc of Justice's assets were misappropriated or improperly used. He said the foundation's years of California noncompliance remained highly unusual.

"This organization with this large endowment has simply fallen off the radar, as it were, with its filings, with its compliance with California," Sternal said.

"Those don't belong to the officers and directors of the foundation. Those belong to the foundation," Sternal said. "They must be used for public charitable purposes."

Levitt said Arc of Justice's board is still considering moving the foundation out of California and potentially establishing two separate charitable vehicles so the foundation's founder and its officers and directors can pursue separate charitable activities.

For now, the original Arc of Justice remains a California corporation and continues to hold its assets, while the future of the newly incorporated Florida organization remains unsettled.

The man who allegedly stormed toward Ohio Democratic gubernatorial nominee Amy Acton at a recent fair will not face felony charges, the county prosecutor leading the case told reporters Tuesday.

The only video investigators currently have of the incident was recorded by the suspect, Patrick Havas, leaving authorities with little video evidence, Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro said.

"The information we've received is that the Acton camp requested individuals stop recording shortly before this incident occurred," Maro told reporters on Tuesday.

"So, at this point, the only video we have is the defendant’s. And what's that showing certainly doesn't support filing felony charges."

Patrick Havas was intercepted by Ohio Highway Patrol officers after allegedly knocking over multiple fairgoers as he ran toward Acton at a tent at the Canfield Fair while armed with a Taser and two firearms.

He was initially booked on two counts of assault and one count of disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors. An inducing panic charge was added Tuesday at his arraignment, bringing the total to four misdemeanor counts. Havas pleaded not guilty.

Maro said the tape showed Havas "walking into the tent" where Acton was, and "calling out her name" before executive protection unit officers from Ohio Highway Patrol interrupted him.

"Then, his phone is either dropped or tossed, and that’s all we have," Maro said.

"There's never any close contact with the governor, never gets near her — sorry, ‘candidate for governor’," she added.

Fox News Digital reached out to Maro for comment and to obtain a copy of the video in question. An official who picked up the phone at her office said Maro was out but would be checking messages.

A reporter for the NBC affiliate tweeted that their network had also attempted to obtain the video but that officials said they would not be releasing it as part of their "active investigation."

Fox News Digital also reached out to the Acton campaign for additional comment, as well as details around the reported request that people stop filming Acton just before the encounter.

"While attending the Canfield Fair, an armed individual lunged at Dr. Acton, injuring multiple people. Dr. Acton and Eric are grateful for the swift and decisive action of law enforcement and are praying for the recovery of those injured," Acton campaign communications director Addie Bullock said in a separate statement.

"This kind of violence has no place in Ohio. Dr. Acton will always stand up to the chaos, hate and vitriol that pits us against one another."

An Ohio judge ordered Havas to not speak to the press, according to Youngstown’s NBC affiliate, and Havas has been placed under a $5,000 bond and forced to surrender any weaponry in his possession.

Havas is a local to that region of Ohio. He was arrested in 2008 on petty theft and disorderly conduct charges, according to Newsweek. The theft charge was later dismissed after he pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct. He was accused of stealing several movies from a supermarket, including the James Bond film "Casino Royale."

It’s faded.

Not from decay. Not from neglect. It’s simply the passage of time.

The memories are vague. Elusive. Distant. And some who lived it are simply no longer here.

Roughly one-third of all Americans who were alive on 9/11 aren’t around anymore to observe the 25th anniversary of that abominable day. And so the recollections of Sept. 11, 2001, are diluted.

To some, Sept. 11 is just another day. But it’s something different for those who weren’t around to live and breathe the horror.

To many, 9/11 is like Pearl Harbor Day. Lots of people know about it. They understand it’s what triggered the U.S.’s entry into World War II. But they can’t quite explain much more.

The same with other historical-shifting moments. Aug. 6 and 9, 1945 — the days the U.S. bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki, effectively ending World War II. Nov. 22, 1963 — the day a gunman mowed down President John F. Kennedy Jr. in Dallas.

A lot of people remember the Space Shuttle Challenger exploding. But few could tell you that it happened on Jan. 28, 1986.

The quintessence of 9/11 is the date. Kind of like July 4th. A bit like Jan. 6 and the Capitol riot. However, we were told on Sept. 11, 2001, that things would never be the same. But how can those who didn’t experience it understand what "the same" was like if they never lived it?

Just last month, a relative of mine who soon turns 26 asked, "What it was like to fly before 9/11?"

I can regale you with stories about myself and a rag-tag group of high school friends, driving to the Cincinnati airport, clearing security and just wandering around the Delta gates, "hanging out" back in the mid-1980s.

No ticket. No questions asked. Just a visit to Cinnabon.

But the "before times" question about 9/11 is a broader conversation. It’s not just about "what changed" when you take off your shoes and bustle through security to fly.

A nine-and-a-half-foot-tall plaque hangs in the East Front vestibule of the U.S. Capitol near the Rotunda. It commemorates Flight 93, which crashed near Shanksville, Pa., on 9/11.

It took a few years, but the U.S. intelligence services finally determined that the fourth plane was bound for the U.S. Capitol. That’s where Todd Beamer and a cadre of everyday Americans voted (mind you, at 35,000 feet) to commandeer a drinks cart and rush the cockpit in an effort to seize control of the plane.

"Let’s roll!" Beamer was overheard saying on a cellphone as they charged down the aisle. That two-word phrase became a battle cry for a nation as it waged the war on terrorism.

The Boeing 757 hurtled toward Washington at 563 mph. It was 20 minutes out from the federal city when the plane crashed, upside down, in the Pennsylvania countryside.

Shanksville is now one of those places forever notched into American history. A place not as famous, say, as Gettysburg or Jamestown, but not a footnote, either. Shanksville is part of the vernacular like Shiloh, Seneca Falls, Kent.

People might know that something historic happened there. But they aren’t exactly sure what.

Scores of markers dot the U.S. Capitol, denoting important things from yesteryear. Wander into Statuary Hall in the Capitol and you’ll find the desk locations of eight presidents who served in the House. But the spot where President Franklin Pierce once sat just seems like an historical annotation. Pierce toiled there nearly two centuries ago. And he’s hardly prominent among American chief executives.

There’s a plaque just outside the Old Supreme Court chamber. It tells the story of how Samuel B. Morse sent the first electronic message from that room to Baltimore over a wire in 1844. "What hath God wrought!" reads the plaque, commemorating Morse’s transmission. That event christened the age of near-instant communication – now ubiquitous in the form of news alerts and TikTok videos appearing instantly in the palms of our hands.

But that plaque in the Capitol’s East Front vestibule doesn’t memorialize something that happened there. It marks something that didn’t happen there.

The plaque reads that the actions of the 40 passengers and crew "not only saved countless lives, but may have saved the U.S. Capitol from destruction."

In other words, this global citadel to democracy with its ivory dome might not pierce the Washington skyline were it not for a plane that crashed 167 miles away.

Shanksville. Shiloh. Seneca Falls. Kent.

I’ve driven the Pennsylvania Turnpike past Somerset for decades now. That’s where the signs direct you north 10 miles to the Flight 93 National Memorial. I budgeted time into my travels to visit the memorial on one frigid, windy morning a few Februarys ago. Inside, you stand at a vista, staring downhill into a small ravine and tree line where the plane crashed.

On that morning, I couldn’t help but notice there was no wildlife to be seen or heard. No deer. No birds chirping.

A disturbing silence.

Perhaps it was the billowing wind of that frosty morning. Maybe the snow. But I noticed no footprints gouging the crisp snowpack.

It was almost as though the animals were aware of something. Dare I say understood what happened in this field a quarter-century ago. Perhaps the local fauna stayed hushed out of reverence for those who perished. A tribute to their heroism, saving the U.S. Capitol.

Or perhaps it was something else.

Maybe the creatures were so reserved because of the malevolence which was also on board Flight 93. One can only speculate that the animals remain hushed because of the peculiar unease enveloping the place. Even on a crisp but blustery winter morning.

Shanksville is a burial ground. And in a few more decades or even a hundred years, those who visit there will walk the paths or peer out over the panorama, trying to grasp the scope of what unfolded there on 9/11.

You can visit Gettysburg and Antietam and do that now. But much is left to the imagination. Perhaps embroidered by what was picked up in a history class. Augmented by a marker or description on a bronze plaque.

In another quarter-century, there will be even fewer people around who remember 9/11. Another 25 after that and many of those still living might be infirm. Confined to wheelchairs. The final generation of messengers who can speak firsthand about what happened that day. Kind of like when honor flights descend on Washington to visit the World War II Memorial on the National Mall.

It’s just the passage of time.

The plaque inside the Capitol will continue to tell the story. And in many ways, just the fact that the Capitol remains standing tells the story, too. Its presence attests to the bravery that manifested itself somewhere over eastern Ohio and is interred in a western Pennsylvania clearing.

We know this now. Even though some of what we recall is faded.

But the memories and understanding of the significance will naturally calcify. Details will grow hazy. People will know the date 9/11. But it may just be that — a date. Like Pearl Harbor Day.

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt referred to Dec. 7, 1941, as "a date which will live infamy."

9/11 will live in infamy. But it’s unclear how that date will live in the minds of Americans.

Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz vomits in towel during US Open thriller after trying to shoo cameras away

In front of a packed Arthur Ashe Stadium, it’s hard for tennis players to have a moment of privacy when they need one, especially when they need to vomit.

Before the fifth set of Carlos Alcaraz’s 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (10-7) loss to Ben Shelton in the U.S. Open quarterfinal, which ended at 3:33 a.m. ET Wednesday morning, the Spaniard was not feeling well.

Alcaraz was sitting on his courtside chair when the camera came around on his right. Knowing that he was about to vomit, he shooed the camera away, trying to spare viewers from an ugly scene.

The camera eventually retreated behind Alcaraz, but the tennis star remained persistent in his efforts to gain privacy. Eventually, he puked into his towel.

"I mean it was close, it really was close, so I was disappointed I didn’t get the win in the end, but I’m just happy … physically I was really tired, but I found a way to push myself," Alcaraz said after the match.

He said he started to feel better in the fifth set, but it wasn’t enough to advance.

The U.S. Open was the first tournament Alcaraz participated in since he was sidelined for more than four months with a wrist injury. While he lost to Shelton in a thriller and had his 18-match Grand Slam winning streak snapped, he was proud of his effort.

"I leave the court happy," Alcaraz said. "I leave the court with a smile. I am proud of myself, how I fought."

Alcaraz praised Shelton, calling the American a "beast."

"Shelton played a very complete, very mature match," Alcaraz said in Spanish. "He knew exactly what to do at every moment. And, physically, he’s a beast. It seemed like he had no weaknesses whatsoever."

For Shelton, the win was the biggest of his career as he moved one step closer to the U.S. Open final.

"It was a war," Shelton said. "Carlos is one of the greatest champions of our sport. It was the most enjoyable match I’ve had in my career, for sure."

Emily Smith’s life has gone from scraping together grocery money to bringing home six figures in a single month.

The 37-year-old stay-at-home mom of four, featured on TLC’s "Double Lives of Suburban Wives," said her family once relied on food stamps, struggled with housing and had just $200 to spend on groceries for six people.

Now, she said her adult-content business generated more than $1 million last year.

And the suburban mom said the moment it finally sank in that her family’s financial life had changed came after one particularly massive month.

"I think staying in the 100K a month that's the moment we were like, ‘Well, holy moly,’" Smith told Fox News Digital. "Who would’ve ever expected something like that to happen? Not us, for sure."

But getting there was anything but an overnight success.

The adult-content creation business, she explained, is notoriously unpredictable.

"There was a month that really, really hit, and then it never went down and hasn't gone down, and we're like, ‘Oh, oh my God,;" she said.

Smith’s story is at the center of TLC’s new reality series, "Double Lives of Suburban Wives," which takes viewers behind the polished façades of suburban lifestyle — and into the unconventional careers happening behind closed doors.

That second life comes with some unexpected and bizarre requests.

One of Smith’s strangest adult-content requests came with a $2,000 price tag and an unusual ask — she was paid to "lay an egg."

"So that request was $2,000," she said.

Smith's niche includes what she describes as "kinky weird adult content," with requests involving wedgies, fart content and "giant" videos — a fetish centered on fantasies of giants.

"I love to make people’s fantasies come true — if I can do it, I will do it," she said.

The "giant" videos hold a particular appeal for Smith, who is just 5 feet, 1 inch tall.

Judgment, family expectations and the challenge of maintaining two seemingly opposite worlds become recurring pressure points in the reality series.

For Smith and her husband, Nathan, the adult-content creation is strictly business.

She cooks, cleans and cuts her children’s hair. The family eats dinner together every night.

The Smiths share four children — sons ages 17, 15 and 12, and an 8-year-old daughter — along with six cats and a dog.

But when the school day begins, the reality star’s other job kicks in.

"It's very much like a light switch," she said. "As soon as the kids leave, you put on your little business hat, and you just get out your notebook and your pen, your iPad and your other phones, and you got to start typing up right away."

Her husband, Nathan, eventually quit his 9-to-5 job to help her keep up with the business.

He had been a store manager for a pharmaceutical company.

Now, he helps with marketing and other aspects of the operation while also running his own unusual business involving snakes. The couple keep 23 snakes, including rare, reticulated pythons.

The financial pressure that pushed them toward adult-content creation was real.

Nathan previously told the show they turned to the business because they were struggling financially.

Smith remembered trying to feed six people on a $200 grocery budget.

The family also experienced periods of relying on food stamps and not having a place to live.

A friend who was already creating adult content ultimately gave the couple an idea.

Nathan inquired about the business, and they decided to take a chance.

The work also became a deeply personal transformation for Smith.

The "Double Lives of Suburban Wives" star said she had spent years focused almost entirely on motherhood and had essentially forgotten another part of herself.

Amazon cargo jet pilot reportedly told wife, 'My career is over' shortly after deadly crash

After an Amazon cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport, killing five people, one of the pilots reportedly told his wife over the phone that his "career was over," according to a new report.

Abraham Altamar told CBS News that he had witnessed the fiery wreck on Sunday while he was working in a nearby building. He did not identify which of the two pilots he spoke with.

Altamar was on FaceTime with his wife when he said the pilot approached him.

"He was, like, shaking and, and a little injured in his forehead and his hand," Altamar said. "I was like, 'Hey, you want me to call 911?' He's like, 'No, we already called them.'"

The pilot then called his wife on Altamar's phone to tell her what had happened, CBS reported.

Altamar said the pilot told his wife that he was fine, while instructing her to tell his mother that he was in an accident but survived.

During this conversation, the pilot also reportedly said, "My career is over."

The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office identified the two pilots as Joseph Carroll, 55, and Jaime Felipe Silva Molina, 37.

A LinkedIn profile for Carroll lists him as a captain for 21 Air, the company operating the plane that crashed over the weekend. A profile for Molina lists him as a first officer at 21 Air.

Federal Aviation Administration records show both men hold airline transport pilot certificates and are qualified to fly Boeing 767 aircraft, the model involved in the Miami crash.

The aircraft was on its third flight of the day when it tried landing at Miami International.

The jet overshot the runway by at least 1,300 feet beyond the paved surface before crashing into multiple vehicles, including a 2012 white Ford Econoline van with passengers inside, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy said during a Monday press conference.

The aircraft then crashed through the airport perimeter and struck a civilian vehicle, a Toyota Corolla Cross LE.

On Tuesday, Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz released the names of the five people who were killed, all of whom were inside vehicles that were hit by the plane.

They were identified as: Rolando Aleman Leon, 55; Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, 53; Julio C. Pineda, 75; Carlos Acosta Fajardo, 53; and 47-year-old Javierkys Reyes Quevedo.

Five others were injured, including the pilots, who were treated and released. The other three people remained hospitalized as of Tuesday, with two of them in critical condition.

Caitlin Clark appears set to stay on the bench in the FIBA Women's World Cup as her team enters the knockout stage.

Team USA coach Kara Lawson told OutKick that she likes what her starting lineup of veterans has done in the first three games, when asked if she would start Clark in the quarterfinal against Hungary.

"I think that our starting group's done a pretty good job of getting us off to good starts, and rotationally from game to game we could change things, but I like where we are right now," Lawson said.

Lawson also suggested that Clark's young rivals and fellow young Team USA stars Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers will also come off the bench until further notice.

"I like where we are right now," Lawson repeated when asked about Reese and Bueckers starting.

Fans on social media have been clamoring for Clark, Reese and Bueckers to replace some of the veteran players in the starting five since the tournament began.

Clark has come off the bench in all three group stage games for the U.S. She went from a record-setting 14-point, 11-assist debut against China to scoring just one point and missing every field goal in a career-low game against Italy, as the U.S. nearly suffered a devastating upset.

Clark rebounded with nine points and seven assists in a blowout win against Czechia to close the group stage.

So far in the World Cup, Bueckers has been a more consistent scorer than Clark. She matched Clark with 14 points in the opener against China and added four assists and two steals.

She then produced one of the strongest all-around performances for the U.S. during its scare against Italy. Bueckers finished with seven points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks in 19 minutes. She also made the Americans’ first 3-pointer after the team missed its first 10 attempts.

Bueckers followed that performance with 10 points and five assists against Czechia. She has made 13 of her 22 field-goal attempts through three games while committing only three turnovers.

Meanwhile, Reese collected nine rebounds in 17 minutes against China, including five on the offensive glass. That effort became especially valuable against a Chinese roster built around one of the tallest frontcourts in the tournament.

Reese then made her biggest impact when the rest of the American offense struggled against Italy. She scored eight points in 15 minutes, made all four of her free throws and recorded two blocks.

Reese added 13 points and six rebounds in the victory over Czechia. Through three games, she has produced 26 points and 18 rebounds despite playing fewer than 20 minutes in each appearance.

Now, with no room for error in the knockout stage, Lawson appears set to rely on her veteran lineup, despite their surprising lesser performance against Italy in the group stage.

Nick Offerman says 'Parks and Rec' character would 'listen to reason' and reconsider his libertarian beliefs

Former "Parks and Recreation" actor Nick Offerman said Sunday that his famously libertarian-minded character Ron Swanson would eventually "listen to reason" and reconsider his libertarian beliefs.

During an appearance on "Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso," Offerman commented on his 2025 film "Sovereign," in which he played "sovereign citizen" Jerry Kane, who died during a police shootout during a traffic stop in 2010.

Offerman said playing Kane allowed him to sympathize with people like Kane who have been "preyed upon" by "misinformed groups." However, he ultimately dismissed worldviews like Kane's, arguing that libertarianism "can never work."

"That would be a tough realization for Ron Swanson," Fragoso said.

"I suppose, but I like to think as a Mike Schur character that he would listen to reason eventually," Offerman said.

In 2025, Offerman told IndieWire that "Parks and Recreation" creator Mike Schur told him that his character would have "despised" President Donald Trump despite his mistrust of the government.

I take it to Mike Schur, the main creator of Ron, and he said, ‘Swanson would’ve despised Trump, because Ron loved capitalism. And Trump made the stupidest move you could make as a capitalist, which is to go into public service,’" the actor said.

In another 2025 interview, Offerman added that he did sympathize with Trump supporters despite their different political views.

"Dealing with Trump supporters in the world is something I try to handle with nuance, because I know many others around the states who are very good people and citizens and would give you the shirt off their back," Offerman said. "They are on the receiving end of an absolute firehose of misinformation, so it's really cognitively dissonant (impossible) to engage in rational discourse."

Bill D'Agostino, the media editor and senior research analyst for the Media Research Center's NewsBusters, told Fox News Digital: "Ron Swanson is a modern-day Archie Bunker: a conservative character whose over-the-top politics endeared him to the people his creators had intended to mock. Swanson is a caricature of exactly the kind of person that his portrayer, Nick Offerman, can’t stand."

D’Agostino added, "Offerman was likely sick of being adored by the people whom he regarded as having missed the joke. He saw two possible solutions: either condemn the character and spend the rest of his life trying to outrun him, or else to cook up a stilted headcanon where Swanson eventually "sees the light" and becomes a limousine liberal like the actor who played him."

D’Agostino concluded, "It doesn’t really matter which of those options Offerman picked. What matters is that in his mind, the only unacceptable course of action was simply to let Ron Swanson continue being Ron Swanson."

Skillet's John Cooper says woke activists have 'big hearts' but are 'hurting themselves'

Skillet frontman John Cooper believes people labeled "woke" are often motivated by good intentions — but warned their approach can ultimately "hurt society."

"I think it’s really worth mentioning that people that we would call woke, the things that we find really problematic, I think it's worth mentioning that most of those people really have big hearts," Cooper said during a recent appearance on the "Unashamed with the Robertson Family" podcast. "They want justice. They want the world to be better."

Cooper said he believes that "the woke probably have good intentions," and pointed to people he knows personally as proof.

"I know these people. Some of them work for me. They’ve worked for me for 15 years. I love them," he said. "And I say to them, ‘I know you’re trying to be a good person, but it’s going to hurt people.’"

The musician ultimately attributed his disagreement with those views to his Christian faith.

"What they’re doing is not true, and it’s not based on the Bible," Cooper said. "It goes against the way God tells us how to live. They end up hurting themselves, and now we've got a culture so nihilistic that doesn't know that they matter. They're looking to matter by doing social justice, but they keep hurting themselves more."

Cooper, who has been performing with Skillet for roughly 30 years, recently told Fox News Digital that his Christian beliefs have influenced some of his professional decisions. However, he remains a steadfast supporter of artistic freedom.

"I am a huge believer in freedom of speech," Cooper said. "I hate cancel culture. I don’t want anybody to be canceled because I’ve never said, ‘So-and-so rock artist sings a song against Jesus and I want him pulled down from Spotify.’"

"I would never say that, because that’s not what art is," he added.

Cooper said he has shared the stage with artists who are atheists and even those who openly oppose Christianity.

"Some of them, I would say, are probably personally not only atheist, they probably personally are a little anti-Christ," he said. "And they would know it. They would say, ‘The truth is, John, I just hate the concept of Jesus.’ And we’re still friends."

However, Cooper acknowledged that there have been rare occasions when he declined to tour with an artist because he believed the performer’s message crossed a line.

"I can only think of two things in my entire career I’ve turned down," he said, recalling a band that planned to feature "Jesus on an upside-down cross" during its stage show.

"I don’t think I want to tour with that act," Cooper said. "And it’s not because I hate them. I don’t hate them at all. I’m not calling for them to be pulled down from Spotify. I just go, ‘Hey, this is just something that you’ve gone a little too far to desecrate something that I think is sacred.’"

Cooper said he believes people with opposing viewpoints should be free to express themselves.

"I would like to share my faith in Jesus," he said. "And because of that, I don’t mind if somebody else sings a song that’s against what I believe. Freedom of speech. Let’s go put all the ideas out there in the free market and let’s see which one wins."

Trump’s pressure campaign has Iran reeling. America can’t hesitate now

Iranian officials claim the regime is "confident" and are considering escalation against the United States. Iran may indeed lash out, but it would be coming from a place of desperation, not strength. On Saturday, Sept. 5, U.S. Central Command struck three Iranian tankers. "Let ‌the message to the IRGC be clear: ‌If you shoot at two of our ships, we will impose an even higher economic cost — ⁠taking out⁠ three of yours," said Admiral Brad Cooper, head of U.S. Central Command. Three days later, U.S. Central Command said it destroyed five more tankers, after the IRGC "targeted a U.S. Navy warship with ballistic missiles twice over the past two days."

President Donald Trump has chosen to crush the Iranian regime economically, but U.S. military strikes (that are hitting their intended targets at an astoundingly near-perfect success rate) continue to play a major role. The combination of the blockade, sanctions and periodic punishing strikes has crippled the Iranian regime’s ability to impose much harm to the United States or its allies. The current course is not a permanent solution to the Iranian regime problem, but the United States is winning, and the public narrative should reflect that.

The U.S. strikes were in response to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) failed attempts to hit U.S. Navy ships. U.S. officials told reporters last week that half of the 25 ballistic missiles Iran fired toward Jordan failed to so much as enter Jordanian airspace.

What should we make of this? The regime has always been bad at targeting, but all of its challenges have been exacerbated by the U.S. and Israeli campaigns, and whatever help it continues to receive from the Russians or Chinese does appear to be limited in its effectiveness. This shouldn’t get these other Iranian backers off the hook for supporting our enemies in a hot war, but it does give credence to the Trump administration’s contention that so far, the help the Iranian regime is receiving hasn’t had a meaningful impact in the IRGC’s favor.

We don't know much more about what the United States is doing to prevent other nations from assisting Iran, but Russian and Chinese support for the Iranian regime continues to be my No. 1 concern about the possible duration and expansion of the war and something to track closely.

And as for diplomacy? Trump has concluded correctly that those in power in Tehran are not ready to make a deal. "I couldn’t care less if they sign a worthless, to them, agreement. I like our position now much better, with almost total control of the Hormuz Strait, and their economy totally collapsing. They are just playing out the inevitable. When are the Iranian people going to rise up and fight?" Trump wrote on social media.

This is good news, as the short-lived so-called Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) permitted the Iranians to sell oil and gave the regime temporary economic reprieve even though the IRGC never intended to stop trying to toll the Strait of Hormuz or shooting at commercial shipping.

TRUMP REVIVES IRAN REGIME CHANGE SPECULATION WITH CRYPTIC CALL FOR PEOPLE TO 'RISE UP'

Just a few weeks ago, critics of Trump and his decision to launch Operation Epic Fury, were insisting that Trump needed to simply leave the Middle East and accept that he led the United States to failure against the Islamic Republic. The popular narrative is that the regime is now "more hardlined" and "more determined" to get a nuclear weapon and now has significant leverage over the United States through its terrorist behavior against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

The critics get it wrong and are recycling some of the erroneous assumptions used to prop up President Barack Obama’s "Iran deal." There are no moderates within the Islamic Republic of Iran. The regime has been in dogged pursuit of a nuclear weapon for years, and it was only thwarted through sanctions and now, finally, Trump’s decision to engage militarily. It is a myth that the regime was so formidable that the only course was to accept that the Iranians will have a latent nuclear program, and it is best to simply accept it and try to buy off or appease the regime.

IRAN IS NOT A NORMAL NATION YOU CAN MAKE DEALS WITH; IT’S A NATIONAL SECURITY THREAT

U.S. military operations have demonstrated military competency and credibility and have degraded or eliminated entire categories of Iran’s military, significant regime leadership and key industries the regime used to support its military. Now the United States is seeking to cut off the regime’s resources through a very effective naval blockade, sanctions and selective secondary sanctions.

But the use of military strikes also continues in bursts. Trump said Tuesday, Sept. 8, that he is prepared to authorize additional strikes against Iran "any time we want." According to a Wall Street Journal report, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has extended the deployment of approximately 50,000 U.S. troops and 19 warships in the Middle East.

TRUMP IS DISMANTLING IRAN’S WAR MACHINE, BUT AMERICA STILL NEEDS AN ENDGAME

Independent sources have now confirmed what the Trump administration has claimed: U.S. Central Command is effectively guiding dozens of commercial ships through the strait carrying millions of barrels of oil, even amid strikes to take out Iranian launchers and radar. The United States successfully eliminated many of its targets during the most violent strikes of Operation Epic Fury, and the regime is dramatically weakened, perhaps irredeemably structurally so.

Uncle Sam has the momentum, and the Trump administration should initiate a public campaign to share the good news with the American people who have been fed a regular dose of pessimism from some news media and so-called analysts who appear to be rooting for U.S. failure.

But until the United States can return its military to pre-war deployments around the Strait, and restore its deployments to other key geographic theaters including in the Pacific and Europe, the U.S. campaign against the Iranian regime continues.

The Trump administration should not back off its demands that the enriched uranium be removed from Iran and that the Strait of Hormuz remain free and open to commercial shipping. This will take skilled diplomacy — not with the terror regime in Iran — but with our closest ally, Israel, and our allies in Europe, as well as with Gulf partners who would be wise to continue normalizing relations with Israel and eschewing investments from the Iranian regime’s backers in Beijing and Moscow.

Obama judge's peculiar Trump rebuke ignites fury over 'unprofessional' language: 'Embarrassment'

Critics took aim Tuesday at a federal appeals court after a judge dismissed the IRS’ argument in an ICE data-sharing case as "weak sauce," drawing immediate backlash over the unusual language in the ruling.

"That argument is ‘weak sauce’ where the district court has permitted the IRS to file any necessary notifications ‘under seal,’ thereby shielding any criminal investigative activity from disclosure," wrote D.C. Circuit Judge Cornelia Pillard, who was appointed by former President Barack Obama in 2013.

"Weak sauce" is slang for something that falls flat and lacks substance.

The lawsuit centers on whether the IRS violated federal tax-confidentiality law by sharing tens of thousands of taxpayer addresses with ICE after receiving requests for information on more than 1 million suspected illegal immigrants. The case was heard by a three-judge D.C. Circuit panel composed entirely of Obama appointees: Pillard, Patricia Millett and Robert Wilkins.

"Three anti-Trump Obama judges abuse power to impair basic immigration law enforcement. We have a judicial integrity crisis in the federal courts," wrote Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton.

"Why would anyone put that language in a professional document of any kind? That goes beyond legal decorum. It’s just unprofessional across the board," said one user on X.

"I’m all for using accessible language, but the insertion of popular slang in judicial opinions is getting out of hand," another posted to X.

"Make legal writing formal again," wrote D.C. attorney Joshua Prince.

The judges upheld a lower-court order blocking the IRS from using its current process to provide taxpayer information to ICE, finding that the procedure failed to comply with federal tax-confidentiality law. The judges found that ICE often submitted "either incomplete or insufficiently populated" information, yet the IRS still provided tens of thousands of taxpayer addresses.

The ruling comes as President Donald Trump has made immigration enforcement a central priority, directing the administration to expand border security, detention and deportations while ICE ramps up arrests nationwide.

‘You’re Fired’: Nearly 40 pro-life groups urge Trump admin to cut off Planned Parenthood funds

FIRST ON FOX — Nearly 40 pro-life and faith groups are calling on the Trump administration to cut off Planned Parenthood from all federal funding by stripping the nation's largest abortion provider of its qualified vendor status, arguing there is mounting evidence that Planned Parenthood has "allegedly defrauded taxpayers, violated federal laws, and abused public trust."

The letter, spearheaded by Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins, is addressed to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Attorney General Todd Blanche, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Kelly Loeffler and was announced Wednesday at the GOP midterm convention in Dallas.

In it, 39 group leaders urge Cabinet officials to finalize and expand on an audit launched in January by the SBA into whether Planned Parenthood fraudulently collected tens of millions in COVID Paycheck Protection Program funds despite being ineligible.

If the administration finds fraud occurred, it could issue a sweeping nationwide ban on Planned Parenthood doing business with any federal agency or program for up to three years, Students for Life Action Vice President of Media and Policy Kristi Hamrick told Fox News Digital.

Unlike defunding through Congress, debarment is an administrative action that would ban Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funds, usually for up to three years.

"You are delisted, and no federal agency can do any business with you whatsoever," Hamrick said.

Hamrick said it would include Title X funds, Medicaid and sex education programs.

"It would make them persona non grata for every federal agency," she added.

The groups say the administrative route would not need congressional approval and is a more tailored and effective approach to addressing what they believe is taxpayer fraud by the organization.

The letter notes that there is already Democratic precedent for the use of administrative debarment, citing a 2022 letter to the DOJ from Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Ben Ray Luján, D-N.M., demanding the federal government make greater use of debarment against "corporate criminals" seeking government contracts.

The letter also notes that this kind of review "is not uncommon," citing the SBA's actions suspending nearly 7,000 Minnesota borrowers over suspected COVID relief loan fraud in January.

"This is about whether or not Planned Parenthood is a qualified vendor and whether or not we need to stay in business with them," Hamrick said. "And we would argue that it's time for them to be fired for the failure to offer the very thing they claim to sell."

In January, Loeffler announced the SBA was auditing 38 Planned Parenthood centers regarding their eligibility for the $88 million in Paycheck Protection Program loans they received during the pandemic.

Planned Parenthood released a statement at the time, slamming the investigation as "politically motivated."

The coalition letter referenced a bombshell New York Times report published last year that cited dozens of current and former Planned Parenthood staff who alleged poor working conditions and "rock-bottom" salaries.

It also pointed to a recent American College of Pediatricians report finding that nearly 80% of Planned Parenthood vendors sell cross-sex procedures — including to minors — and outlined broader allegations against the organization, including Medicaid fraud, illegal trafficking of aborted fetal body parts, health and safety violations, and failure to report sex crimes against minors.

"It’s long overdue for the examination of an organization that has received more than $10.35 billion in taxpayer dollars, according to a 2022 report," the letter states. "In light of so many serious allegations against Planned Parenthood, we ask that a debarment investigation of Planned Parenthood be prioritized to debar and delist them, stripping them of qualified vendor status and making them ineligible for any federal taxpayer support."

Hamrick said the issue boils down to vendor standards and an alleged misuse of taxpayer funds.

"The allegations of fraud... the racist work environment, the shoddy location of business, not following health and safety standards, all of the above," Hamrick said. "So what we are saying is Planned Parenthood goes to court again and again and says, 'You can't cut our funds because we are a qualified vendor,' and qualified is the word. We are saying they are a nonqualified vendor."

Hamrick also addressed concerns that Planned Parenthood provides vital services to low-income women, pointing out that Federally Qualified Health Centers, which are federally-funded community-based clinics, vastly outnumber Planned Parenthood facilities, with roughly 5,500 sites specifically providing women's health services compared to under 600 Planned Parenthood vendors nationwide.

"FQHCs served 32.5 million patients in 2024, compared to Planned Parenthood's 2.08 million, as reported in their most recent annual report. Women have choices in where to go," the letter states.

Innocent woman says police use of Flock camera led to 13 days in jail

Lindsey Brooke Isaacs was asleep at home when police arrived and told the 23-year-old that her car had been involved in a crash that killed three people. She knew they had the wrong person. Her black Dodge Durango showed no obvious collision damage, and she had a receipt showing where she had been.

Still, the investigation eventually led to her being arrested and 13 days in jail. "My heart was in my stomach," Lindsey told me on The CyberGuy Report Podcast at Cyberguy.com/podcast/. "I didn't know what was going on."

Months later, prosecutors dropped all eight felony charges against her and investigators arrested another woman in connection with the crash. Her case now raises a bigger question about how much weight investigators should give license plate camera data when a person's freedom is on the line.

How a Flock camera became a major lead

The deadly crash happened on Oct. 4, 2025, along eastbound Interstate 4 near DeBary, Florida. Motorcyclist Joaquin Deno died. Flagler County Deputy Administrator Jorge Salinas and his wife, Nancy Salinas, also died. Witnesses reported that a Dodge Durango was involved.

Investigators found Lindsey's black Dodge Durango through a Flock automated license plate reader. The camera recorded her vehicle traveling eastbound near the Seminole and Volusia county line at 9:51 p.m. That camera was about three miles west of the crash scene. The crash happened around 9:53 p.m. That timing became especially important later.

Lindsey's attorney, Patrick McGeehan, said his team performed a time-distance analysis and concluded Lindsey was already beyond the crash location when the collision occurred. So the camera really did capture Lindsey's vehicle. The problem came from what investigators concluded from that sighting. Lindsey put it more bluntly during our conversation. "They just picked up my car off a camera and called it the end of the day. We got her."

Other evidence pointed toward a different Dodge Durango

The Flock camera hit was far from the only information investigators had. A 911 caller described a maroon Dodge Durango and provided part of its license plate number. Later, investigators also found red or maroon paint transfer on a Ford Focus involved in the crash.

Meanwhile, Lindsey drove a black Dodge Durango. A specialized Florida Highway Patrol team later inspected Lindsey's vehicle and reported finding no damage suggesting it had been involved in a collision with another vehicle.

That finding lined up with something Lindsey said she had been telling investigators from the beginning. "Where is the damage on the vehicle?" she recalled asking police. "Because I'm standing right in front of it and I don't see any damage." Still, authorities impounded her SUV. Months passed.

Lindsey Isaacs is arrested on charges seven months later

On April 17, 2026, Lindsey got a call from her attorney. She had to surrender that day. "They are arresting you for this crime," Lindsey recalled him telling her. She faced eight felony charges: three counts of vehicular homicide, three counts of leaving the scene of a crash involving death, leaving the scene involving serious bodily injury and reckless driving causing serious bodily injury. Lindsey spent 13 days in jail.

During our podcast conversation, she described spending her first several days in solitary confinement. She said she had a toilet, a sink and a metal sleeping slab covered by a thin mat. Her charges were so serious, she said, that jail officials initially kept her separated from other people.

Later, Lindsey was transferred to other sections of the jail. After her first bond hearing, she remained behind bars. "I was devastated, I was scared," she told me. "I thought my life was over."

HOW SURVEILLANCE TECH LED POLICE TO ACCUSE THE WRONG PERSON

A new investigation changes the case

The case finally began moving in a very different direction after prosecutors and a specialized Florida Highway Patrol team took another look. That team found no meaningful crash damage on Lindsey's Durango. Investigators revisited witness information and followed evidence pointing toward another vehicle.

On May 22, the State Attorney's Office formally declined to prosecute Lindsey on all eight charges. Authorities then arrested Alisa Lee Montalvo on charges connected to the crash. Prosecutors allege Montalvo was driving a maroon Dodge Durango. She faces nine charges, including three counts of vehicular homicide and tampering with physical evidence. She has not been convicted, and the charges remain allegations.

For Lindsey, the news brought enormous relief. "I felt like a new woman," she told me. "I felt free." Lindsey told me she later received an apology from the head of the Florida Highway Patrol. "It felt like a miracle," she said. "Another miracle from God that I was hearing it in person, face to face."

However, she also said the experience left lasting emotional and physical effects. "This took and is going to take maybe years to get better mentally, physically, emotionally," Lindsey said. Lindsey has since filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against two Florida Highway Patrol troopers involved in the investigation, alleging false arrest, wrongful imprisonment and malicious prosecution. Those claims have not been proven in court.

Flock Safety responds

We reached out to Flock Safety and the Florida Highway Patrol for comment. Flock Safety responded with the following statement:

"Flock cameras provide investigative leads; they do not identify perpetrators, determine guilt, or make arrest decisions. In fact, the complaint itself calls the Flock evidence 'exculpatory, not inculpatory,' meaning the evidence pointed away from Ms. Isaacs rather than implicating her: it accurately placed her vehicle three miles from the crash scene just two minutes before the crash. Characterizing her arrest as the result of Flock technology fundamentally misrepresents both the allegations and the role our technology played in this case."

The Florida Highway Patrol did not respond to our request for comment.

What a Flock camera can record

Flock cameras are automated license plate readers, often called ALPRs. They capture images of passing vehicles and use software to identify license plates. Flock systems can also capture vehicle characteristics including make, model and color. Each camera sighting can create a record linking a vehicle with a particular place and time.

For police, that can become an extremely useful investigative tool. A stolen car can appear on a camera. A vehicle connected to a missing person case could produce a lead. However, Lindsey's experience raises another question. What happens when investigators put too much confidence in one search result? We previously explored that concern after surveillance technology helped police accuse a Colorado woman of stealing a package. Her own phone location history eventually helped show where she had really been.

Lindsey blames how investigators used the Flock data

One of the most interesting moments in my conversation with Lindsey came when I asked whether she blamed the Flock technology or the way police interpreted its data. Her answer was clear. "I 100% think the second one you said, how police interpret the camera footage," she told me. That gets to the heart of this story.

The Flock camera captured Lindsey's vehicle traveling on I-4. The machine did what it was designed to do. Human judgment came next. Investigators had to decide what that sighting meant. They also had to weigh it against witness accounts, physical evidence and the condition of Lindsey's car.

According to Lindsey's federal complaint, the Flock hit three miles from the crash two minutes beforehand, ultimately helped her legal team argue that she was already beyond the crash location when the collision occurred. Technology can surface a lead. People still have to prove what that lead actually means.

Florida orders license plate readers off state highways

The debate over these cameras has now taken a major turn in Florida. On Aug. 31, the Florida Department of Transportation revoked permits for license plate reader systems within rights-of-way on Florida's state highway system.

FDOT cited the rapid growth of the systems along with reports of misuse and concerns involving data privacy and surveillance. Cameras covered by the order must be removed within 30 days. The agency also said it will stop issuing future permits for license plate readers within its jurisdiction.

However, that order does not eliminate every Flock camera in Florida. It applies to cameras within FDOT-controlled state highway rights of way. Local governments can take different approaches to cameras on city or county property. Several agencies have chosen to pull back further. Miami-Dade County, for example, announced that it would suspend its entire license plate reader program. Other Florida agencies plan to continue using cameras away from state highways.

Flock is adding new safeguards

Flock Safety has also announced significant changes to how its system operates. In August, the company announced that it was changing its recommended and default license plate data retention period from 30 days to seven days.

Flock also plans to require law enforcement customers to use its Audit Assistance tool by the end of 2026. The technology flags unusual search activity for review.

Case codes will also become mandatory for law enforcement searches by the end of the year. Flock says emergency searches can bypass that requirement, although those searches will be flagged for review. Those changes add oversight. Still, safeguards inside the software cannot determine whether an investigator has drawn the right conclusion from the information on the screen.

Your license plate can create a trail

Most of us probably drive past license plate readers without noticing them. A single plate scan may seem harmless. After all, anyone standing beside the road can see your license plate.

A searchable network changes the equation. Instead of someone seeing your vehicle once, a network of cameras can record when that vehicle passed particular locations.

We have already reported on Flock license plate cameras appearing at some Home Depot and Lowe's parking lots. We also reported on a Washington court ruling that found Flock license plate reader images can qualify as public records under that state's Public Records Act.

Lindsey told me she knew Flock cameras existed before her ordeal. She simply had no idea how much could ride on the information they collected. "I just thought it was like a traffic camera," she said. Today, her opinion has changed. "I feel very different about those cameras now."

What to do if police connect your vehicle to an investigation

If police tell you that your vehicle appeared in a license plate reader search tied to a serious crime, your own records could become important.

1) Preserve your location records

Save receipts and toll records that can help establish where you were. If your phone already stores location history, preserve that information too. Avoid changing or deleting anything related to the period investigators are asking about.

2) Save camera footage quickly

Doorbell cameras and security systems often overwrite older recordings. If footage could show your vehicle at home or somewhere else, preserve a copy as soon as possible. The same goes for dashcam video.

3) Photograph and video your vehicle

If authorities claim your car was involved in a collision, take detailed pictures and video showing its condition. Photograph and record each side of the vehicle and keep the original files with their date information intact.

4) Consider contacting an attorney

A serious criminal accusation can escalate quickly. An attorney can help preserve evidence and communicate with investigators. Legal counsel can also examine whether the available data actually supports what police believe happened.

I'm torn on Flock cameras. If somebody burglarizes my home, I want police to have technology that can help identify the vehicle that drove away. If investigators are trying to locate a missing person, a license plate reader could provide a valuable lead. But Lindsey's story shows what can happen when a lead begins driving the investigation instead of helping investigators test what really happened. Her black Dodge Durango had no crash damage. Other evidence pointed toward a maroon Durango. The timing of the Flock hit ultimately helped her attorney argue that she could not have caused the crash. Yet she still spent 13 days in jail. As I told Lindsey during our conversation, "I can't stand when technology is used in ways that it was never intended for." That is where I land on this. The technology can be incredibly useful. The people using it still need to challenge what they think they know before someone loses their freedom.
