'Independence One' brings back golden age of air travel for America’s 250th anniversary

Southwest Airlines is marking America’s upcoming 250th anniversary with a new patriotic aircraft and a partnership aimed at boosting volunteer efforts nationwide.

The airline announced the launch of "Independence One," a specially designed plane featuring red, white and blue elements tied to the nation’s founding.

The aircraft includes visual references to American history, including "1776" displayed in script, 13 stars representing the original colonies and the phrase "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" from the Declaration of Independence, the airline said in a press release.

Independence One joins two other America-themed planes in Southwest’s fleet, including Freedom One, introduced in 2021, and Liberty One, another recently unveiled aircraft.

"With our new 'Independence One' and 'Liberty One' aircraft, we honor this important milestone in our nation’s history," Southwest CEO Bob Jordan said in a statement.

The airline also announced a partnership with America250, the organization leading the nationwide celebration of the country’s semiquincentennial.

As part of the initiative, Southwest said it will contribute up to $250,000 through a "We Serve Together" grant program, supporting nonprofit organizations connected to employee volunteer efforts.

The funding builds on more than 180,000 hours of volunteer service logged by Southwest employees in 2025, according to the company.

"As America marks its 250th anniversary, Southwest Airlines’ legacy of connecting people and communities reflects the spirit of freedom and opportunity that defines our nation," Rosie Rios, chair of America250, said in a statement.

The new jet entered service last week, with its first flight departing from the airline's hometown of Dallas and heading to Philadelphia, a city closely tied to the nation’s founding.

The aircraft will continue to fly routes across the country throughout the year as part of the broader America250 celebration.

America must choose between faith, order and a culture of lawlessness

There are two very different messages that are battling for the soul of our nation right now. One message lifts us up. The other message drags us down. The question of which message succeeds depends on whether we have the strength to repair the torn fabric of our society or whether we have weakened to the point where we are content to watch it unravel even further.

The first message came from NASA astronaut Victor Glover, the mission specialist on Artemis II. When this accomplished American hero returned home, still in his flight suit, he was greeted by his entire neighborhood. He stood before them and spoke words straight from Scripture: "Let’s be this more. Let’s be neighbors. God told us to love Him with all that we are and love our neighbors as ourselves."

That is the message America desperately needs. It is humble. It is biblical. It is unifying. It calls every one of us, regardless of race, background, or neighborhood, to the kind of neighborly love that builds strong families, safe streets, and thriving communities.

Victor Glover represents what is possible when faith, discipline, excellence, and personal responsibility come together. He is living proof that the ladders of opportunity are still there for anyone willing to climb them.

Yet sometimes the simplest and truest of all messages is the hardest to follow. Why is that?

He was an entrepreneur who started his first company at 19, a wrestler, a model, a man full of vigor and promise. Now his unborn son will grow up without a father, and his family is left to grieve a life stolen in a moment of senseless violence.

Police are still searching for the suspects, four people of interest, including three men and one woman. Another innocent life gone. Another family shattered. Another reminder that evil does not care about skin color, political slogans, or excuses.

This is the deadly result when we choose dysfunction over discipline. When we protect violence instead of confronting it. When we make excuses for those who violate the most basic social contract: that we do not harm the innocent, that we do not destroy what others have built, that we do not turn our neighborhoods into war zones.

As a pastor who has buried too many young men on Chicago’s South Side, I say this plainly: we cannot keep tolerating or excusing the culture of lawlessness and then act shocked when it claims more victims, whether they are teens in Englewood or a young father in Avondale. Real justice is biblical justice. It protects the innocent. It punishes the guilty without apology. It demands accountability from every citizen, no matter their background.

We need a sanctuary for all, we need safe communities where fathers can walk home at night, where children can play without fear, where families can build futures instead of burying them. Love your neighbor. Speak truth. Enforce consequences. Reject excuses.

My Walk Across America showed me that most of this country still believes in Glover’s vision of faith, family, hard work, and genuine neighborly love. But in too many of our cities, a different current flows: one of instant retaliation, fatherlessness, glorification of the streets, and a refusal to call evil by its name.

We must reverse that current. The choice is that simple and it is a hard one.

Victor Glover's son will grow up knowing his father. Alexander Kazanowski's son will not. That is the difference between these two messages. That is what is actually at stake.

If we built more of our culture around families instead of self-indulgence, maybe America could look a little more like Amen Corner.

After walking Augusta National on opening day of the Masters, that was the thought I couldn’t shake. Because the contrast is impossible to ignore. In a world that feels louder, more divided and honestly more self-obsessed by the day, this place runs on a completely different set of values, and somehow, it works better than everything else.

I’m a college kid. I live on my phone. I see what trends, what flops, what people pretend to care about and what they actually do. And yet every April, the Masters takes over everything, social media, conversations, group chats, even people who don’t care about golf suddenly care.

That doesn’t just happen.

Walking the course, what stood out wasn’t just how perfect everything looked, it was the people. Families everywhere. Stop trusting political parties to save urban America. It's time for us to rise and rebuild

Urban America does not need a political party. For decades, we were told that if we only had the right political savior, our problems would be solved. But no one is coming.

What Urban America needs are principles: the timeless, universal values of faith, family, agency, ownership, discipline, safety and accountability.

We don’t need any more of this Republican vs. Democrat talk. We’ve done it to death, and we cannot afford to succumb to false promises any longer — not when our communities have only worsened. A man once told me that progress can only happen the moment we stop lying to ourselves. It is far easier to believe in false promises than to look at the cold reality of where most of urban America, including my South Side Chicago neighborhood, stands — at the bottom of the American totem pole.

In my Walk Across America, which is now taking me through the Cotton Belt in the Deep South, I have seen many urban communities. In far too many of these areas, I’ve met people whose dreams have been dimmed by a cycle of government dependency that saps dignity and stifles growth. These people have been cut off from the greatness of America.

That is why I’ve come to believe that what Urban America needs most are American principles. Those principles do not belong to any political party. They are universal and timeless. They are why people from all over the world want to come here.

The greatest sin is that we who live in Urban America have allowed ourselves to be separated from these principles. We have sold ourselves short by embracing inferior ideologies. How can anything grounded solely in race lift us up? But the principles of individualism — from accountability to responsibility — can do wonders for developing one’s talents and capabilities.

Many Urban American neighborhoods rank at the bottom in statistics when it comes to education, violence and two-parent families. We don’t even go to church that often, which is very telling in itself. The only way out is development grounded in American principles.

Our Johnny, at his core, is no different than suburban Johnny. Our Johnny may not have all the resources that suburban Johnny has, but so what? We’ve used that as an excuse for too long. We focus on the differences between the two Johnnys, but they are all external. What we don’t focus on are the commonalities. Both Johnnys share the miracle of the human body: two feet, two hands, two eyes, two ears and the wonder of the brain. That is why we must embrace the belief that Urban Johnny can embrace the same American principles that suburban Johnny uses and rise to the top. We have no other choice but to try.

What I’m talking about here, ultimately, is a mind reset. We’ve been told for decades that America is a horrible and racist country, where police lurk behind every corner waiting to shoot us dead. That’s a lie. People in Urban America kill each other at far greater rates than any outsider, and yet no one points to that fact. I wonder why.

That is why this mind reset is so needed. I met an immigrant on my walk. He was selling fruit from a stand on the side of the street. I asked him where he was from. Ireland. I asked him what he thought of America. "The greatest country in the world," he said without hesitation. He went on to tell me that at night he works as a waiter and makes $300 in tips. But what he said next stayed with me:

"No one tells me what to do. I get up in the morning. I have a family to support — three kids and a dog. I have to get up. If I don’t go to work, we get nothing. It’s all on us. So I work and work. Someday, I will have my own business."

He’s hoping to become a citizen, along with his family, soon.

There’s no magic here. The man gets up and works 16-hour days at two jobs. It’s all up to him. It’s that simple. But that’s the beauty of America and her principles. America gives us absolute freedom as long as we follow the law. That is the mindset that Urban America must embrace if she is to undergo a revival. And if she does, she will no longer be at the bottom. Guaranteed.

DAVID MARCUS: Patriotic Team USA wins gold as anti-America whiners flop

Sunday’s 2-1 overtime win for the United States men’s hockey team over archrival Canada is arguably our nation’s most significant winter gold medal since the last time our boys were kings of the sport during the 1980 "Miracle on Ice," and the team’s pride in its country just made it all the sweeter.

You may recall that, from the outset of the games in Milan Cortina two weeks ago, there were American athletes chiding and criticizing our nation from their press podiums, and while correlation is not causation, many of them didn’t fare terribly well.

Take Hunter Hess, the American freestyle skier who said about representing the U.S. prior to competing, "It brings up mixed emotions to represent the U.S. right now. It’s a little hard. There’s obviously a lot going on that I’m not the biggest fan of." He added, "I think, for me, it’s more I’m representing my friends and family."

Hess finished 10th — and his 15 minutes of fame ended.

TEAM USA MEN'S HOCKEY ARRIVES IN FLORIDA AFTER WINNING OLYMPIC GOLD

Then there was figure skater Amber Glenn, who said members of the LGBT community in America are "having a hard time" and that she would use her voice to "try to encourage people to stay strong."

It’s worth noting that Iran had a winter Olympic team this year. One wonders how Glenn thinks gays and lesbians are treated there.

Notably, while her teammates helped secure a team gold in figure skating, Glenn finished a disappointing fifth in singles, missing the podium — which hopefully gave her extra time to focus on gay rights.

America did win singles gold, through figure skater Alysa Liu, who not only did not complain about her country but chose to compete for the United States instead of China, as fellow Chinese-American freestyle skier Eileen Gu did. Liu and her family, after all, found freedom here.

Then there was hockey — the glorious men’s and women’s tournaments in which both U.S. teams took gold. There was no whining about America or President Donald Trump. Instead, there was downright pure, unapologetic patriotism on display.

Take women’s hockey star Taylor Heise, who told Fox News Digital, "Playing for your country and the pride of the place that you live in is pretty amazing and to wear that USA emblem on your chest every day is something you don’t want to take for granted."

Not long after, the boys in red, white and blue were speaking with President Donald Trump in the locker room via speakerphone, excited about the chance to attend Tuesday’s State of the Union address — the same event many Democrats in Congress are petulantly skipping out on.

By definition, top Olympic athletes compete at such a high level of talent and ability that the slightest advantage can make all the difference. Some of these sports are decided by fractions of seconds.

Rare and original American founding documents to fly on Freedom Plane across nation

In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, a plane will showcase rare documents from our nation’s founding, giving Americans the opportunity to "experience" history right before their eyes.

The National Archives and Records Administration and National Archives Foundation (NAF) announced this week that the documents will be traveling in a Boeing 737, dubbed the Freedom Plane.

The Freedom Plane will travel to eight different cities starting in March and concluding at the end of August. The cities are Kansas City, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Houston, Denver, Miami, Dearborn and Seattle.

AMERICA'S 250TH ANNIVERSARY SPARKS TRAVEL RUSH AS EXPERTS ISSUE URGENT BOOKING WARNING

On the plane will be the original engraving of the Declaration of Independence in 1823 — one of only about 50 known engraved copies.

The document was commissioned by John Quincy Adams and was made by engraver William J. Stone, according to NAF.

The Articles of Association of 1774 was signed by all 53 delegates urging colonists to boycott British goods, marking the Continental Congress's first protest against Britain.

This document will be on the plane as well.

Oaths of Allegiance signed by George Washington, Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr during the Revolutionary War in 1778 are included as well.

Also traveling is a rare copy of a Constitution draft that has the delegates' handwritten notes made during the Constitutional Convention in 1787.

The last document on the plane is the Tally of Votes Approving the Constitution from 1787.

The document tracked the voting record of the Constitutional Convention, marking debates, resolutions and the vote on the final Constitution text.

Jim Byron, senior advisor to the Archivist of the United States, said at a press conference that Americans can "bear witness to the people and principals that shaped our nation."

"There is no more noteworthy an occasion than America’s 250th birthday to share this history — to inspire our fellow Americans to champion our nation’s founding ideals into the future," said Byron.

Rodney Slater, chair and president of the National Archives Foundation's board of directors, added, "The Freedom Plane National Tour underscores that the rich history of our nation belongs to all of us, not just those Americans living in or visiting Washington, D.C."

A spokesperson told Fox News Digital that "if a venue is at capacity, you may have to wait in line. Our goal is for as many Americans as possible to see these documents."

America's 250th anniversary sparks travel rush as experts issue urgent booking warning

Families are already planning 2026 vacations this year as America turns 250, with plenty of historic destinations in the spotlight.

The American Automobile Association (AAA) is spotlighting a number of celebratory trips across the country, beginning with an event in Philadelphia.

"We recommend travelers identify which events they want to attend or site they want to visit and book early," an AAA spokesperson told Fox News Digital this week.

STATE LAUNCHES ‘AMERICA FIRST’ LICENSE PLATE AS OTHERS UNVEIL PATRIOTIC AMERICA 250 DESIGNS

"Don't wait until the last minute to buy flights or reserve hotels," the spokesperson added. "Especially over Independence Day weekend — when we historically see record travel numbers."

The Wawa Welcome America Festival, for example, is a 16-day celebration beginning June 19 and lasting through July 4.

"This once-in-a-generation experience will feature events that Philadelphians have come to know and love, just bigger and better, including concerts on Independence Mall, firework displays, block parties, Wawa Hoagie Day, a parade representing all states and territories," the website notes.

Also noted for Philadelphia is The Museum of the American Revolution (MAR). An exhibition traces how the Declaration of Independence inspired similar movements around the world.

Just outside Augusta, Georgia, is Meadow Garden, home to George Walton. It's been open to the public since 1901, making the property one of the oldest house museums in the U.S. It's also featured on the America 250 list by AAA.

Walton was a signer of the Declaration of Independence.

Meanwhile, Emerson Colonial Theatre in Boston will showcase a historic opera from April 24 to May 3.

"The Daughter of the Regiment" tells the story of Deborah Sampson of Massachusetts, who disguised herself as a man to join the fight for independence.

Three events are spotlighted by AAA in the nation’s capital, starting with an AI display titled "The American Story" at the National Archives Museum, which will offer a journey through 250 years of history.

While the National Mall has already kicked off the year with illuminations on the Washington Monument, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival will take place June 18 to July 12.

Near the mall, the Smithsonian National Museum of American History will feature various Declaration of Independence exhibits.

Outside Washington, D.C., Gadsby’s Tavern Museum in Alexandria, Virginia, will share the story of previous manager Hannah Griffith.

Griffith ran the coffeehouse from 1785 to the early 1800s, offering just one example of the roles women played during the Revolutionary War.

Also in Virginia is the First Baptist Church of Williamsburg, which was founded for enslaved and free African Americans.

"Organized in 1776 — at a time when Black people faced severe restrictions on their right to gather — the congregation has been a cornerstone of resilience and faith," AAA notes.

One of the largest celebrations to take place on the East and Gulf Coasts is Sail250.

International fleets of tall ships and navy vessels will dock in New Orleans, Norfolk, Virginia, Baltimore, New York and Boston bringing parades, tours, fireworks and more.

Buddhist monks have set off on a trek across the country on foot that has drawn national attention as they travel from Fort Worth, Texas, to Washington, D.C., as a part of a monthslong journey they describe as a spiritual practice.

The more than 2,300-mile journey they have named the Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Center’s Walk for Peace began in late October and is estimated to conclude later this winter in the nation’s capital.

The walk, according to the group’s official page, is intended to promote peace, compassion and mindfulness during a time they say the country is marked by division and uncertainty.

"This is not a protest," the monks say in public statements. "It is a spiritual practice."

The monks are affiliated with a Texas-based Buddhist meditation center.

They describe the walk as a moving meditation as they continue to pass through cities, small towns and rural communities across the U.S.

They have been greeted by supporters who have gathered along the route, walking short stretches with the group and offering food or simply observing quietly as they pass.

The Monks are keeping a blog that tracks their journey in real time. On the blog they say those who "visit the venerable monks along our path, we tie a blessing string around your wrist—a simple thread that carries profound meaning."

According to the blog, the cord is a reminder and every time the wearer sees it, "in a moment of stress, during a difficult conversation, when patience feels impossible—it gently calls you back to the intention you set when you met us: to walk with us in spirit, to nourish peace, mindfulness, loving-kindness, and compassion in your daily life."

"It is a connection string between this journey and you, a tangible link that says: you are part of this walk for peace. We are walking together, always," they write.

In addition to the monks, Aloka, a rescue dog the monks refer to as the "Peace Dog," has become an unexpected focal point of the journey.

During the journey, photos and videos are being shared online and show Aloka traveling along highways and sidewalks, resting during breaks and greeting supporters.

These special moments have helped the monks’ walk gain traction on social media, where their Facebook following recently surpassed 1 million followers.

Millions of supporters are sharing messages of encouragement and reflection in response to the journey.

"I am so inspired. Thank you — the United States so desperately needs this message," one follower wrote.

Another supporter said the walk has had a personal impact on their daily life.

"Praying for you all each night. You have opened a light within me that makes me want to be a kinder, more peaceful person. I think now before speaking and have become more aware of my breathing," the follower wrote. "Your trip has a lot of people thinking and restoring hope back in our country and peaceful thoughts throughout the day. It is simply wonderful, the journey you are on."

Others said the message resonates with them during a turbulent period for the country.

"The message of peace is resonating with so many in America during these scary times," another supporter commented.

So far, the Buddhist monks have made it across much of the country, prompting online searches and interest in the walk, the monks’ mission and their destination in Washington. The videos have circulated widely as the group continues eastward.

State launches 'America First' license plate as others unveil patriotic America 250 designs

As the United States approaches its 250th birthday, the Peach State isn’t just rolling out commemorative license plates — it’s offering an "America First" one, too.

The new license plate was first introduced in Senate Bill 291 by state Sen. Steve Gooch, a Republican, and signed by Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp in May.

The plate features an American flag background, with the words "America First" shown at the bottom.

It costs $90.

"This license plate represents the tangible expression of patriotism and putting the needs of our country at the forefront," said Gooch at the time.

"It provides Georgians with an opportunity to express their national pride and underscores the importance of emphasizing domestic concerns like economic stability, national security, strong borders and the protection of the rights of our citizens," he added.

Gooch shared that Georgians can "show [their] support for President [Donald] Trump and his movement with every mile [they] drive."

The state also offers a USA Semiquincentennial license plate to celebrate America 250 for $20.

Frank O'Connell, Georgia's revenue commissioner, said in a press release the plate offers a "meaningful way to recognize our nation’s founding and the pivotal role our state played in it."

The design was created by Georgia middle school students in a statewide civics education campaign, according to the GRC.

"The red stars on the design represent the following Georgia Revolutionary War sites from north to south: Fight at Van's Creek/Hornet’s Nest, Battle of Kettle Creek, Sieges of Augusta, Battle of Brier Creek, Battles of Savannah, Fort Morris and the Frederica Naval Action," Pethel said.

A Florida man has gone viral for carrying an American flag during long-distance runs, promoting unity and healthy living as he prepares to run a half-marathon in every state in 2026.

"I love this country, and I’m trying to spread as much love as possible," Teag "Pure Joy" McCoy told "Fox & Friends" Tuesday.

McCoy said the idea began during a quiet moment in the bed of his truck, when he prayed for a way to make a difference in the world and the country.

"It was a real windy night and I saw that flag waving. I picked her up the next day and I ran for 22 miles and the rest is history."

Since then, McCoy said about 90% of the reactions he receives "are extremely joyous."

"I get a lot of people saying, 'I love you' and 'God bless you.' And that took us a good 10, 20 days to get to that because before that we had a ton of hecklers," McCoy said, recalling being cursed at, spit on and even splashed with water while running on rainy days.

"We keep on moving forward. We tell them we love them," he said.

As I walked through Pocahontas Island — the oldest free Black community in the United States — on my 3,000-mile journey across America, I felt the weight of history and the hope of tomorrow.

This walk, which began on Sept. 1, 2025, in New York City has now taken me through Virginia. I have been distant from all the discord online but have seen enough to see how this division is tearing our nation apart. The reason for my walk is to call for a restoration of merit, faith and the American Dream, and none of this discord moves us in that direction, a direction, a goal that I believe most of us aspire to.

On this walk, I’ve been given a gift I didn’t expect: silence. Hours of quiet on the road have allowed me to reflect, pray and listen — to God, to myself and to the people I meet along the way. The Bible tells us in James 1:19, "My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry." That verse has guided me on this walk, reminding me that true understanding begins with listening.

AT LANCASTER MARKET, I WITNESSED AN AMERICA THAT STILL WORKS — NO POLITICS REQUIRED

In today’s world, we’re polarized, angry and quick to judge. Online, a single disagreement can turn into a shouting match, where we reduce the entirety of an individual to that one perceived political offense. But out here in the real world, face-to-face with folks from all walks of life, I’m seeing something different.

I’ve met people I might have clashed with on social media — over politics, race or policy — yet in person, I’ve discovered their hearts. A farmer disagreed with my views on education reform, especially school choice, but shared how he prays for his kids every night. A young mother argued with me about who was responsible for the government shutdown but then told me about her dream to start a business. These conversations revealed people’s souls, not just opinions.

This reminds me of Proverbs 18:13, which says, "To answer before listening — that is folly and shame." Too often, we’re guilty of that online. We attack without hearing the other side. We fall for clickbait headlines. But on this walk, the silence has restored my patience. It’s taught me to sit with someone, hear their story and find common ground. I might not agree with everything they say, but I see their humanity. And that’s where healing begins.

Pocahontas Island was a powerful stop for me. It is the oldest free Black community in America. In the early 1800s, its population included both free Black residents and enslaved individuals. Those who were free could own property and live independently, a rarity in the pre-Civil War South. They faced problems greater than ours. Their freedom was perilous — slavery was everywhere. Yet, they focused on freedom.

We’re losing sight of that today. As I mentioned earlier, I’m walking to help us restore merit, faith and the American Dream as our guiding light. Far too many are more interested in petty squabbles, historical revisionism. They are destroying the fabric of America with their toxic form of identity politics and tribalism — and some are even making money off our attention. Who loses in the end? We do.

That is why this walk has been such a blessing for me, especially the silence and the face-to-face conversations. It’s given me time to pray and hear God’s voice, as Psalm 46:10 urges, "Be still, and know that I am God."

New NGA chair says America is 'exceptional' in push to revive a fading Dream

As America approaches its 250th anniversary, the bipartisan National Governors Association (NGA) is focused on reigniting the American Dream, NGA Chair Gov. Kevin Stitt, R-Okla., told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview.

"I've lived the American Dream," the Oklahoma governor said, explaining that Democratic and Republican governors "can all agree that we want to teach the next generation that America is exceptional, and that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to."

During the NGA's summer meeting in Colorado Springs, Stitt announced his marquee initiative as the incoming chair, focusing on the economy, education and investing in artificial intelligence.

"There's no such thing as equal outcomes, but we want equal opportunities to go chase your dreams through hard work, through entrepreneurship and free markets," Stitt explained.

NGA Vice Chair Gov. Wes Moore, D-Md., shared his own American Dream story during the NGA's summer meeting, telling the crowd that the "American Dream is never a singular dream."

"It’s a continuation," Moore said. "It’s a dream that was born generations ago. It’s a dream that was borne by people who, even if they did not know us, they fought for the hope of us. The United States is the most unique experiment in the history of the world. Period. Full stop."

Stitt said his own story reflects the American Dream, telling Fox News Digital that he grew his nationwide company from just "$1,000 and a computer" before being elected governor in 2018.

The Oklahoma governor is term-limited this year. When asked about his legacy, Stitt said he is proud to have accomplished "education freedom" and becoming a top-10 state where people are moving.

"We were having teacher walkouts, we were having billion-dollar budget deficits, we had no money in savings, and we had this kind of second-class feel as a state," Stitt said of his home state before he took office. "I'm a fourth-generation Oklahoman, and we weren't doing as well as we could have, and I wanted to bring this bravado."

Looking ahead to next year, Stitt said he is monitoring the gubernatorial race closely as several candidates have already declared their candidacies.

"Behind the scenes, I'm certainly going to let Oklahomans know who I think is the best one to replace me, but if we can get a couple of good businessman governors and people that are focused on the next generation, not the next election, we can absolutely keep this momentum in Oklahoma going, and we can continue to be a top-10 state," Stitt said.

As for his own political future, Stitt said he plans to return to his company as "our Founding Fathers envisioned," adding that "politics shouldn't necessarily be a profession where to climb the ladder."

Labor Day battle cry: Billionaires didn’t build this country – workers did, and they'll take it back

For more than 140 years, Labor Day has been a time to honor the contributions, achievements and sacrifices of workers in America. But this year, in the wake of growing economic inequality and a government increasingly catering to billionaires and special interests, Labor Day needs to be more than a long holiday weekend. It must be the impetus of a battle cry for workers everywhere to rise up, realize their collective strength and take their power back.

Hedge fund managers and tech moguls did not build this country or the American middle class. It was technicians, engineers, installers, teachers, caregivers, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, ironworkers, painters, laborers, operators, mechanics, drivers, farmworkers, clerks, grocers and so many others.

They went to work each day – often invisible and without fair pay, benefits, or even basic dignity. They risked their jobs, their safety and sometimes their lives to secure better working conditions we all enjoy today, like an eight-hour workday, overtime pay and the right to organize.

I’ve spent my career enforcing labor law and fighting to protect workers’ rights. I’ve seen how powerful working people can be when they come together. The bosses and billionaires see it, too – and it terrifies them. That’s why they’re working hard in Washington to rig the system, spending millions to weaken worker protections and make it harder for workers to exercise their rights to unionize, collectively bargain and mobilize to improve their working conditions, and to enjoy their freedoms of speech, assembly, association and expression.

ARE YOU BETTER OFF SINCE DONALD TRUMP TOOK OFFICE?

Today, we’re living through one of the largest transfers of wealth in modern history. Working people and families juggle multiple jobs while corporations pop champagne over record profits and billionaires buy second yachts. Recent estimates show the Republican budget bill will only deepen this disparity, by taking away Medicaid and SNAP assistance from millions of Americans to pay for tax cuts for the super wealthy that they really don’t need and didn’t earn. They’re profiting off the backs of so many hard-working people.

This is not an accident. It’s the direct result of a system where corporations and their donors have an outsized voice and direct influence on our democracy – and politicians showering them with loopholes and special treatment. For example, President Donald Trump’s Labor Department recently announced they were rolling back 60 workplace regulations, putting workers at greater risk of being hurt while making it easier for employers to get away with it.

Similarly, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) remains without a quorum, rendering it impossible to issue rulings or make decisions that hold corporations accountable for breaking the law. My fear is that, if this continues, we’ll find ourselves living in an environment reflective of what it was like before 1935’s National Labor Relations Act: lower wages, substandard working conditions and no real channels for workers to fight back.

DON'T BE FOOLED. MAMDANI ISN'T THE FUTURE OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. THESE TWO PATRIOTIC WOMEN ARE

Billionaires and corporations hope this will make workers feel defeated. We can’t let that happen because the truth is – workers aren’t powerless. To the contrary, they have tremendous power.

Let’s remember our history. From the Boston Tea Party to women’s suffrage to the Civil Rights Movement to the strikes at the turn of the 20th century, workers have always been a catalyst for change. Protests, boycotts, picketing, strikes, sit-ins, non-cooperation – these have never been signs of violence or dysfunction. They’re expressions of democracy.

Our present moment in history is no different – and workers must realize they have tools to begin reclaiming this country and their power to demand changes to the way they’re governed and how they live their lives.

WE HAVE A GOVERNMENT OF BILLIONAIRES, BY BILLIONAIRES AND FOR BILLIONAIRES

Support for unions has skyrocketed to its highest point in generations, especially among young people. They’re organizing at coffee shops, warehouses, grocery stores, newspapers, universities, airlines, hospitals, tech campuses and many other locations because they realize the power they hold through standing together and bargaining collectively.

They’re rightfully demanding more than just survival – they’re demanding respect. They’re standing strong in the face of union-busting campaigns, retaliatory firings and illegal threats because they know what’s at stake – not just for themselves, but for their families and their communities. There’s strength in numbers.

That’s what gives me hope because collective power is stronger than individual power. We’re seeing a groundswell of organizing in places once thought impossible to organize, especially when people feel their elected representatives aren’t listening to them. This creates enormous opportunities for unions, advocates and allies to rally around workers, listen to their challenges, and build grassroots momentum to help workers obtain a more level playing field and safer, more just and inclusive workplaces.

In my experience, billionaires and corporations don’t provide workers with a fair and equitable workplace through an act of goodwill. They will provide it, however, when workers demand it loudly, boldly, and persistently and show their collective power. This means withholding labor, engaging in non-cooperation, organizing sit-ins and taking other forms of collective action. It’s time for workers to use this power to protest about injustices and inequities, to make sure laws are fully enforced, and to vote out elected officials for not representing their interests.

Labor Day was born out of strikes and marches from those who came before us. It exists because workers refused to be taken advantage of and exploited. That legacy is now in our hands – to honor, not just with celebration, but with resolve and action. Workers must never forget the power they have to fight together for the dignity, security and respect they’re entitled to and so richly deserve.

Sixteen months before Thomas Jefferson crafted the powerful words that would become our Declaration of Independence, he sat quietly in Richmond's St. John's Church, absorbing the oratory of Patrick Henry. Henry’s call, "Give me liberty or give me death," ignited a revolutionary spirit that Jefferson would later capture on parchment.

As we approach July 4, 2026, America's 250th birthday, Jefferson’s words resonate with renewed importance: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." These words mark the beginning of our nation. These words inspired men and women, enslaved and free, native and immigrant. These words changed the world forever. Every movement for human dignity, equality, and liberty from then on, here and in every corner of the earth, has looked to these words for inspiration and justification.

Throughout our history, America has persistently worked toward these aspirational ideals, often imperfectly, but always purposefully. The freedoms promised in 1776 were not immediately or universally granted; generations of Americans - enslaved people, women and others denied their full rights - would wait decades to taste freedom, and the fight for true equality has continued into our own century.

PROTECTING THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE IN OUR 250TH YEAR

We are the only nation in human history not founded on ethnicity, territory, or religion, but rather on a bold set of ideas, ideals, and a system of government. When we lose sight of where we came from or forget what our founding was meant to establish, our differences begin to divide us rather than bind us. That is why civic renewal is essential. We must reconnect Americans with our shared story, and re-engage those who feel left out or believe our founding ideals no longer apply to them.

Virginia played a pivotal role in this founding. From the Committees of Correspondence in Williamsburg, to the Fairfax Resolves in Alexandria, to the voices of the Overmountain Men in Roanoke and Patrick Henry in Richmond—courageous actions were taken by people who did not always agree, did not always like or trust one another, but who chose to act because their common cause was more important than their divisions.

Even in the face of deep risk and uncertainty, people made difficult, often dangerous choices. Enslaved men like James Armistead Lafayette and Gowan Pamphlet took great personal risks to fight for the hope of freedom. Native communities, despite displacement and division, joined in the cause for liberty. These stories, too often untold, remind us that our history is complex—but it is also rich with courage, resilience, and sacrifice.

As Americans, we know we have not always lived up to our ideals. We’ve fallen short time and again. But our optimism for the future rests not on wishful thinking, but on our enduring belief that the system of government we inherited gives us the tools to repair our faults and fulfill our promise. The work of forming a more perfect union is never finished—it must be taken up by every generation.

Surveillance video captures moment heroic stranger saves 6-year-old Florida boy sinking to bottom of pool

A 6-year-old Florida boy who fell into a pool and started drowning was saved due to the quick-thinking heroics of a stranger – and it was all caught on camera.

Surveillance video shows the young boy, named Oscar, arrive at the pool in Fort Lauderdale with an adult.

He tries to jump onto a pool float, but loses his balance and falls into the pool.

The adult with Oscar begins screaming for help as the boy begins to sink to the bottom of the pool.

Roque Ivan Ocampo was passing by when he heard the screams for help and ran to assist.

As Ocampo quickly takes his shoes off, he dives right in to save Oscar.

Ocampo immediately began pulling him to the surface of the water towards the ladder.

Another bystander assisted Ocampo with getting Oscar out of the water.

During a press conference, Ocampo told the media that he saw Oscar wasn’t breathing.

"I started doing CPR. The kid wasn’t breathing, but I keep doing it and doing it until he started breathing again," Ocampo said.

Through police body cam footage, officers are seen arriving to find Oscar breathing.

The officers quickly took over and spoke to Oscar, asking him if he could squeeze their hand.

Officers then carry Oscar out of the pool area and to the paramedics.

The 6-year-old survived because of the quick action taken by Ocampo.

"I don’t feel like a hero. I just did what I had to do. I feel good. I’m blessed to be able to help this kid," Ocampo said to the media.

"We do 34 weeks of veteran programs," he told Fox News Digital. "We serve Bernie Marcus' program Warrior Path at our camp. We were one of the first campuses to be chosen to serve their program. They help with transition to and from service and help serve those with PTSD and other challenges that they find when they come home. And they help them find community and purpose and what their new chapter is going to be like."

The camp also has the Warrior Song program through which "we help them to tell their story, which they may not be comfortable telling a civilian. But they get to tell their story with some amazing talented songwriters so that they can sing their story or can play it back to someone and help to share that part of them and get it out of the shadows because a lot of them carry that weight around that they're only willing to share with other fellow soldiers."

Camp Southern Ground also hosts a family camp, which Brown says helps service members "see their family as their unit when they come back."

"It helps them to have tools. It helps them to be with other veterans and their families as well, and they spend time learning how to see their family as their unit and have the tools to integrate together so that they can have a successful marriage and successful parenthood so that they themselves are well," he explained.

"I’m really, really proud of all the things that we’re doing there."

The Veterans Voice Award was created to highlight artists like Brown, who are using their platforms to help veterans.

The "Chicken Fried" singer says it’s difficult to single out a personal story a service member has told him because he’s heard so many amazing anecdotes.

"My friend Ollie told me a story about how he thinks about things and how he doesn't ever want his demons to be behind him. He wants them to be chained down in front of him so he can see them and know when they're trying to pull up and get out of their chains, and he knows that he can be aware of that," Brown said. "It's an everyday choice to conquer those things."

Other veterans have also told him how much his music meant to them while they were serving.

"I've been over several times to play for USO, to play in Iraq and Afghanistan and Kuwait and going out to some of those Ford operating bases where they have not seen anyone that reminds them of home for a really long amount of time," he said.

"Some of them had just lost one of their members to an (improvised explosive device), and they were painting his name on a tank when we got there."

The band ended up filming the music video for its song "Free" at that base.

"As soon as we got our guitars out and the speakers out, and we started playing music, it was like a light came on in their eyes and reminded them of what they're fighting for and what they're doing," he explains. "The things that we ask of them. We spent 10 days over there, and they give years and years of sacrifice for our country so that we can be free here and enjoy our lives. Those stories and remembering being around those incredible people, it moves me, and it's important to give thanks and gratitude to the people that protect us."

It’s especially significant that Brown will be honored on Memorial Day.

"It's important that Americans pause on Memorial Day because a lot of people have fought and died and suffered for our freedom, and I’m grateful that the American Music Awards and Easy Day Foundation are making a point of recognizing this during Monday’s event," he said.

"People can complain about America, complain about whatever, but they haven't gone and lived in other countries," he added. "Most of them haven't gone to live and see what it's like in some of the other places in the world. In America, there are challenges with anything that you're going to do and accomplish, but you can do things here that you cannot do anywhere else."

He says people in the United States can "live that American dream no matter what background you're from, no matter what your history was, to create an amazing life for yourself," adding that veterans provide security "so that we can live the American dream.

"Getting to make music for a living is one of the greatest things in my life," he said. "It's such a privilege to get to do what I love to do. And I wouldn't be able to do that if we didn't have the freedoms here that we have and that is due to our veterans and our service people."

Brown says his personal connections to the military go "really deep," adding "it’s an honor getting to sit down and hear their stories," like Joe Maynard's story about launching a knife company.

"My buddy Joe Hartbank, who I lived with, to Joe Maynard, who is an incredible guy. He had to do a lot of things that he still kind of suffers from at times, but seeing him find purpose and being able to be a friend for him, getting to lead him into making knives and finding new purpose into things," he explained.

"He does all kinds of things now, but such an incredible guy."

Maynard gave Brown a medal he won for saving troops who were under fire in an ambush because of what Brown’s music, especially the song "Natural Disaster," meant to him.

"It’s a privilege to get to know these people," Brown said. "I invite anybody that has a heart for veterans and heart for kids to learn more about Camp Southern Ground. If you don't have a higher purpose other than yourself in your life that you're contributing to, you need to find something like this. and if you want to join forces with us, we'd love to have you."

"It's so much more than a camp," he said. "It's on a university level of quality, the build and everything like that. We’ve got an incredible staff. We learn every single year about how to be better. It’s a privilege to be recognized, but it's a privilege to share the awareness of these things so that we can all figure out how to help each other. God bless America. God bless the people that protect us there."

The American Music Awards’ collaboration with the Easy Day Foundation, an organization that provides support to veterans transitioning back into military life, will also include two performances and inspirational stories from active-duty service members and veterans.

Money raised for the Easy Day Foundation will also benefit other veterans organizations across the country, including the Bob Woodruff Foundation, Boot Campaign, Congressional Medal of Honor Society, Fisher House, The Folded Flag Foundation, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, Team Rubicon and UNLV’s Military and Veteran Services Center.

A portion of ticket sales will benefit the Easy Day Foundation and its partners, and a portion of audience seating at the AMAs will also be reserved for veterans.

The AMAs will air live Monday, May 26 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and will stream on Paramount+ in the U.S.

Federal dietary guidelines will soon change for Americans, HHS and USDA announce

The "Make America Healthy Again" commission held an inaugural meeting on Monday with USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The USDA and HHS have since announced that they are conducting a "line-by-line" review of the 2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans released by the Biden Administration last year.

"I commend President Trump on his bold leadership to empower Americans to live longer, healthier, more abundant lives," Secretary Rollins told Fox News Digital. "I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues across the Cabinet and leading efforts at the Department of Agriculture to encourage healthy choices, outcomes and families."

In a joint press release, the agencies announced they will be releasing the 2025-2030 report ahead of the end-of-year deadline.

Over the past 100 years, the federal government has provided advice on what Americans should eat and drink based off nutrition and health advances in science.

The agencies shared there will be "holistic process improvements to ensure transparency and minimize any conflicts of interest."

Rollins said the 2025-2030 guidelines will be "based on sound science, not political science," adding, "Gone are the days where leftist ideologies guide public policy," according to the release.

Secretary Kennedy said updating the guidelines is "a giant step in making America the healthiest country in the world."

"We are going to make sure the dietary guidelines will reflect the public interest and serve public health, rather than special interests," said Kennedy.

While specific changes to the guidelines have not yet been released, the existing report from the Biden Administration includes oils listed as part of a healthy dietary pattern, citing that they provide "essential fatty acids."

"Commonly consumed oils include canola, corn, olive, peanut, safflower, soybean and sunflower oils," the report states.

Supporters in the MAHA movement have been outspoken about the use of seed oils in food and instead promote the use of natural lards such as beef tallow.

The existing report advises Americans to move away from "fats high in saturated fat" such as butter, lards and oils.

The guideline announcement comes as Kennedy met with representatives from Kraft Heinz, General Mills, Tyson Foods, WK Kellogg Co, The J.M. Smucker Company and PepsiCo, along with the Consumer Brands Association.

Out of Monday’s meeting, Kennedy announced the HHS will eliminate the GRAS [Generally Recognized as Safe] loophole used by ingredient manufacturers and sponsors, which currently allows new ingredients and chemicals to be introduced into the U.S. food supply without proper notification to the FDA or the public.

Trump friend and informal faith adviser: 'God is giving America another chance'

Speaking to Fox News Digital just days before President Donald Trump's inauguration as 47th president, Pastor Robert Jeffress of First Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas, expressed "gratitude to God" about Trump's re-election and his hope for the future of the country.

"I believe most evangelicals, conservative Catholics and conservative Jews all view President Trump's re-election with a feeling of relief and gratitude to God," said the faith leader in an on-camera interview. (See the video at the top of this article.)

"There's a very real sense that our country has been in a downward spiral the last four years, and mainly because of our departure from the Judeo-Christian foundation of our nation," said Jeffress. "To many people, I believe President Trump's re-election represents God giving America another chance — perhaps her last chance — to reverse this downward trajectory."

And "I'm talking about things that have caused confusion in our country over the last four years," he said.

"Embracing the transgender agenda, which is confusing our children. Wavering in our support of Israel, our only reliable ally in the Middle East. And following extreme environmental positions that may have actually caused rather than prevented some of the disasters we're seeing."

All of these things, said Jeffress, "have caused people of faith to lament — but they feel very hopeful now that President Trump is about to enter the White House [again] and they're going to be filled with prayers for him."

The pastor will be participating in certain inauguration events, he said, but was not at liberty to name the specifics ahead of those events.

Jeffress said he hopes all Americans will heed the Bible and pray for all "those who are in authority" and in a governing capacity in this country.

"Now, I know some of our viewers and readers may be saying, ‘Pastor, are you a hypocrite? Would you have said the same thing about Joe Biden?’" said Jeffress. "And in fact, I wrote an op-ed piece for Fox News when Biden was elected, saying we may be lamenting his election, but we need to obey the Bible and pray for him."

Added Jeffress to Fox News Digital, "The Bible says we don't select whom we pray for. We pray for all leaders. And I would remind people that if President Trump wins in his agenda, which I think he will, then all of America wins, not just Republicans but our entire country."

He went on, "President Trump has been a good friend of mine for the last 10 years. I've talked to him recently. I'll talk to him again next week. And I really believe he wants to unite this country."

And "I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised at the unity that he creates in our country," said Jeffress. "Not everybody's going to agree with every policy he initiates, but I think they're going to see that he wants what is best for the country we all love."

Jeffress said there is "no official" faith advisory role on his part, but rather "an informal friendship that I've cherished for these last 10 years. I just basically like President Trump," he said. "He's a very likable person. And I can tell you, he loves our country."

He said that "there's no sane reason he would give up a life of luxury to do this, to risk his life like he did twice in the last few months. He does this because he loves America and wants what's best for our country.

"And I think Americans ought to be able to follow any man or woman who has that kind of feeling about our country."

Jeffress added that America's "greatness is in our goodness. And the Bible says the only goodness we can have is by our right relationship with God. And I hope we'll begin not only this New Year, but this new term of the Trump administration with a new commitment to follow God. If God blesses a nation, nothing can thwart His purpose or our success."

‘Gracious and powerful God'

At the same time, Jeffress noted how important it is to recognize very real struggles and challenges — "and I know at the forefront of people's thinking right now are the fires in Los Angeles and the devastation that has caused."

For tragedies like this, he said, "it's natural for people to ask the ‘why’ question. Why do these things happen? Why do they happen to me? And I would suggest that sometimes this is an unanswerable question. Instead, the real question we ought to be asking is a ‘who’ question. Who is in control of a world that seems out of control?"

Jeffress shared an example from his own life.

"A few years ago, my wife, Amy, and I were driving in the night, out in the middle of West Texas, out in the darkness during a driving rainstorm — and our headlights malfunctioned and went out. And so we were driving in the darkness.

"I couldn't see six inches in front of me, but I noticed an 18-wheeler behind me and I slowed down, and I allowed it to pass me. And once it was in front of me, I focused on its taillights. And I followed it into the nearest town."

"And when we find ourselves in a maelstrom of confusion and suffering," added Jeffress, "we wonder why these things are happening. There are three lights about God that we can focus in on. First, God is loving. The Bible says God is close to the brokenhearted. Never forget God is love."

"Secondly, God is sovereign. That means He's in control. Nothing takes Him by surprise.

"And finally, God is powerful enough to take the worst things that happen to us and use them for our own good. The apostle Paul said, ‘For God causes all things to work together for good.’"

"To those who love Him, that doesn't mean everything that happens to us is good, but it means God is so gracious and powerful that He can take the worst things in our life, like a fire, a flood, the breakup of a relationship, an illness — He can take those horrible things and use them for our good."

Added Jeffress, "If we focus on those truths about God when we pass through a storm, then God will deliver us to the other side safely."
