Fox News Poll: Trump facing headwinds at six-month mark

58% oppose the new budget law, while economic outlook shows uptick

Six months into Donald Trump’s second presidency, the political tea leaves are muddled.

Voters disapprove of the job he is doing, dislike his new budget law, and doubt his dealings with Iran are making the U.S. safer. At the same time, ratings of the economy show signs of improvement, feelings on the direction of the country are inching upward, and the president’s job approval ratings are holding steady, according to a new Fox News national survey.

Thirty-two percent of voters rate economic conditions positively. That’s the highest number, by one percentage point, in about a year. On a personal level, 44% rate their financial situation positively, up from 39% in March and 38% in December.

Majorities continue to give the economy (67%) and their family finances (56%) negative ratings.

FOX NEWS POLL: VOTERS THINK IRAN POSES A REAL THREAT TO US SECURITY, BUT SPLIT ON ISRAEL'S STRIKES

While 71% say inflation caused them financial hardship in the last six months, that is the lowest number since 2021 – and down from a high of 78% in 2022. The hardship is widespread, as large shares of Democrats (79%), independents (74%), and Republicans (62%) say they feel it, as do those with yearly income both below $50,000 (81%) and $50,000 and higher (64%).

Overall, 56% are dissatisfied with the direction the country is taking. The silver lining is that’s an improvement: 68% were dissatisfied at the end of last year, and it was 66% last summer.

On the other hand, 44% are happy with the way things are going. As is typical for the incumbent president’s party, Republicans (77%) are much more likely than Democrats (15%) and independents (32%) to feel pleased.

The president calls the budget legislation he recently signed into law "The One Big Beautiful Bill," but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. More disapprove (58%) than approve (39%) by 19 percentage points, and more than twice as many think the law will hurt rather than help their family.

FOX NEWS POLL: ECONOMIC PESSIMISM ABATES SLIGHTLY AS VOTERS REFLECT ON THE ECONOMY

Opposition to the budget comes from a large majority of Democrats (89%), most independents (70%), and one in five Republicans (21%). Significant shares of Trump’s base also oppose the bill, including 52% of rural voters, 46% of White men without a college degree, and 37% of White evangelical Christians.

Topping the list of things in the law that voters dislike is increasing the debt ceiling (74%), as three-quarters disapprove. More than half also disapprove of reducing food stamp funding (65%), making tax cuts permanent for those with higher incomes (64%), increasing spending for immigrant detention centers (59%) and the border wall (55%), ending wind and solar tax credits (58%), and increasing work requirements for Medicaid (53%).

Popular elements include removing taxes on tips (70% approve), making tax cuts permanent for those with yearly income of less than $250,000 (68%), and increasing military spending (61%).

The survey reveals the greatest ideological agreement is on ending taxes on tips and making tax cuts to lower-income individuals permanent, as majorities of Democrats, Republicans, and independents approve -- as well as on increasing the debt limit, as majorities of each disapprove.

Big picture: what message do voters want to give to the government? More than half, 52%, would say "lend me a hand." Forty-five percent would ask Washington to "leave me alone."

The number of Democrats who would ask Uncle Sam to "lend me a hand" has declined 10 points compared to a year ago and stands at 58%. The opposite is true among Republicans, as a record high 48% would ask for a hand, up 16 points since 2024.

"This is Trump’s signature piece of legislation, and it is emblematic of why it’s so hard for any Congress, but especially a Republican Congress, to get anything done these days," says Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who conducts Fox News surveys with Democrat Chris Anderson. "Many elements of the OBBB are popular, yet any spending cuts or anything that can be characterized as tax cuts for the rich craters support with Democrats and independents."

Currently, 46% of voters approve of Trump’s performance, while 54% disapprove. That’s exactly where things stood last month, and better than at this point 8 years ago when 41% approved. Since last month, his approval mostly held firm with his strongest backers: it is up one point among Republicans (88%), down one point among 2024 Trump voters (90%), and down two points among MAGA supporters (96%).

Trump gets his best marks on handling border security: 56% approve vs. 44% disapprove. Voters are more disapproving of the job he is doing on other top issues such as immigration (48% approve, 51% disapprove), foreign policy (45-54%), the economy (44-55%), and inflation and tariffs (36-62% on both).

On foreign policy, attitudes on the U.S. decision to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities are mixed. Voters are split over whether they approve or disapprove of launching the strikes (47% vs. 50%) and whether the strikes were mostly successful or mostly a failure (31% vs. 27%). The highest share, 42%, think it’s too soon to say.

Bottom line, 43% think Trump’s dealings with Iran have made the U.S. less safe, which is 15 points higher than the 28% who say the country is safer.

The survey finds 38% want the U.S. to do more for Ukraine, a 15-point jump since last fall, with increases among Democrats (+22 points), independents (+14), and Republicans (+9).

By a 23-point margin, more voters think Russian President Vladimir Putin (58%) has the upper hand in the situation in Ukraine than Trump (35%). Republicans are more likely to say Trump (by 19 points), while Democrats (by 62 points) and independents (by 25 points) say Putin.

Poll-pourri

Only 13% think the government has been open and transparent about the Jeffrey Epstein case, while more than five times as many, 67%, disagree – including 60% of Republicans and 56% of MAGA supporters. One voter in five says they haven’t been following the case.

A majority, 62%, don’t think former President Joe Biden was particularly involved in making important decisions during the final year of his presidency, yet views are divided over investigating Biden’s advisors for using an autopen to sign documents without his awareness. Fifty-one percent say investigate and 47% say it is time to move on. Among Democrats, 41% think Biden wasn’t that involved in decisions and 30% support looking into the autopen.

Voters explain why they approve (or disapprove) of the president

Forty-six percent of voters approve of the job Trump is doing as president. Why do they approve? The survey asks voters to explain in their own words what’s behind their approval (or disapproval). Most were able to give specific answers, detailed below.

The main reasons for approving of Trump’s job performance are he’s "getting things done" (18%), "keeping his promises" (14%), "helping the economy" (13%), immigration/border security (13%), and "putting America first" (12%).

For those who disapprove, the top reasons are "the economy/tariffs" (14%), "doesn’t have the temperament" (13%), "not following the Constitution" (10%), "separating families"/immigration (8%), "he favors the rich" (7%), generally disliking what he’s doing (7%), and "too many government cuts" (6%). Only 1% mention "Jeffrey Epstein case," and all of that comes from Democrats and independents.

A comparison with responses from when the same question was asked during Trump’s first term provides insight into how his second term differs. In 2018, far more of those who approved of Trump’s job performance cited that he was helping the economy (24% vs. 13% today). Among those who disapproved, many more were likely to mention personal characteristics and only small numbers mentioned immigration (4%) and the economy (3%).

CLICK HERE FOR CROSSTABS AND TOPLINE

Conducted July 18-21, 2025, under the direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News survey includes interviews with a sample of 1,000 registered voters randomly selected from a national voter file. Respondents spoke with live interviewers on landlines (114) and cellphones (636) or completed the survey online after receiving a text (250). Results based on the full sample have a margin of sampling error of ±3 percentage points. Sampling error for results among subgroups is higher. In addition to sampling error, question wording and order can influence results. Weights are generally applied to age, race, education, and area variables to ensure the demographics are representative of the registered voter population.
Fox News Poll: Approval of SCOTUS at 5-year high, rebounding from record low in 2024

Voters are more likely to say the Court is too conservative than too liberal

After a busy end to the 2024-2025 term, voters have a more positive view of the Supreme Court. In fact, the high court currently holds its highest approval rating since 2020.

The latest Fox News survey finds 47% of voters approve of the job SCOTUS is doing, a 9-point jump since last July, when a record low 38% approved.

FOX NEWS POLL: VOTERS THINK IRAN POSES A REAL THREAT TO US SECURITY, BUT SPLIT ON ISRAEL'S STRIKES

The increase in approval is widespread, but especially among independents (up 16 points), women (+15), Republicans (+14), and voters under age 30 (+12).

"Over the past decade, public confidence in our major institutions has declined," says Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who helps conduct the Fox News survey with Democrat Chris Anderson. "The Court’s rebound could reflect its attempts to steer a middle course on politically polarizing questions or indicate an uptick in positive attitudes toward our more venerable institutions."

The numbers still fall short of the court’s 54% approval rating in 2020 (the last time it was above 50%) or the record high 58% in 2017. At that time, majorities of Democrats (65%) and independents (55%) and half of Republicans (50%) approved.

The survey, released Wednesday, shows 50% of voters disapprove of the court’s performance, down from 60% last year. Those most likely to disapprove are Democrats (78%), liberals (75%), and Black voters (61%), while the highest approval is among Republicans (76%), conservatives (74%), and White, evangelical Christians (66%).

FOX NEWS POLL: ECONOMIC PESSIMISM ABATES SLIGHTLY AS VOTERS REFLECT ON THE ECONOMY

The share saying partisanship frequently plays a role in the court’s decisions decreased 9 points since 2024 (from 42% to 33%) and that downward shift is seen across all demographics. Another 44% say partisanship plays a role sometimes and 20% say hardly ever or never.

Still, by more than 2-to-1, more voters think SCOTUS is too conservative (43%) than too liberal in its decisions (18%, a low), while 36% think the court’s rulings are about right. That’s roughly where sentiment was last summer, when a record high 45% felt the court was too conservative, 19% said too liberal, and 33% said about right.

Voters have felt the Court has been too conservative rather than too liberal since July 2018. The last time voters felt it was too liberal was in February 2017 when 31% said liberal and 18% conservative – a plurality of voters, and a record high, felt the court was about right in decisions (47%).

Today, Democrats feel the strongest about the conservative leaning of the Court: 72% think it’s too conservative, while 17% say it is about right, and 8% say too liberal. In 2017, it was 29%, 60%, and 8%, respectively.

A 56% majority of Republicans say the Court is about right in its decisions, while 29% say too liberal, and 14% too conservative. In 2017, it was 32%, 59%, and 5%, respectively.

Attitudes among independents are more balanced, with 40% saying the Court is too conservative, 36% about right, and 18% too liberal. In 2017, it was 16%, 48%, and 26%, respectively.

Fox News Poll: Democrats’ favorability hits new low, still favored over GOP in 2026 midterms

Republicans nosedive with voters under age 30

Democrats hit their lowest favorable rating ever this month as Republicans are viewed more positively than their counterparts for the first time in a decade. Yet, voters would back the Democratic candidate over the Republican in their district if the 2026 congressional elections were held today.

The latest Fox News survey, released Friday, finds 44% have a favorable opinion of the Republican Party, while 54% have an unfavorable view for a net rating of -10. For the Democratic Party, it’s 41-56%, for a -15 rating.

Results were reversed last summer, the most recent time Fox asked the question, when voters viewed Republicans negatively by 14 points and the Democrats by just 6 points.

The last time Republicans had a better favorable rating than the Democrats, albeit by 1 point, was in April 2014, when 45% viewed the GOP positively vs. 44% the Democrats.

The drop in positivity toward the Democrats comes from within. Last summer, 87% of self-identified Democrats approved of their party. Now, that’s down 10 points to 77%.

FOX NEWS POLL: VOTERS UNCERTAIN ON US PATH FORWARD WITH UKRAINE

Meanwhile, the Republican Party saw a slight improvement among their party faithful: 83% of self-identified Republicans had a favorable view in 2024 vs. 85% today.

"The higher favorable rating for the Republican Party is entirely due to Democrats feeling less favorable toward their party than Republicans do toward theirs," says Democrat Chris Anderson, who conducts the Fox News surveys with Republican Daron Shaw. "This in and of itself is unlikely to translate into midterm success for the GOP, as Democrats say they will almost universally vote for their party and Independents favor the Democrats as well."

If the midterm elections were today, voters would back the Democrat over the Republican candidate in their district by 7 points (49% vs. 42%), similar to the results in April 2017 during President Donald Trump’s first term (47% vs. 42%).

FOX NEWS POLL: MAJOR INCREASE IN POSITIVE VIEWS ON BORDER SECURITY

The Democrats are ahead mostly due to stronger backing from their base and being preferred by Independents by a 2-to-1 margin (40% Dem to 18% GOP). They also have the backing of at least 6 in 10 Black voters (68%), voters under age 30 (60%), and women with a degree (59%).

Independents have negative views of both major parties but are more down on the Republicans (72% unfavorable) than the Democrats (66%). And while more back the Democratic candidate, a 41% plurality are unsure of what they’ll do in 2026.

Republicans’ strongest support comes from White evangelical Christians (66%), White men without a degree (54%), and rural voters (50%).

Another reason the GOP candidate is struggling is because of party loyalty: fewer Republicans (92%) and 2024 Trump supporters (86%) back the GOP candidate than Democrats (97%) and 2024 Harris supporters (91%) do theirs.

"The congressional ballot results aren’t surprising, as the out-party typically does well in the administration’s first midterms," says Shaw. "Republicans did well in 2010 and 2022, while Democrats did well in 2018, and polls showed this was mostly because their partisans were more fired up. The key for the Republicans is either keeping some of the Democrats and independents that crossed over in 2024 for Trump or ginning up their base for an election where Trump isn’t on the ballot."

The survey also asks voters how they felt about their 2024 vote choice and while 85% were satisfied overall, there has been a decline in satisfaction among Trump voters. Eighty-nine percent of those who supported Trump in 2024 remain satisfied with their choice, yet that’s down from 92% four years ago and 97% eight years ago. Among 2024 Harris supporters, 90% remain satisfied with their vote today.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

A closer look at young voters…

Young voters, especially those under age 30, have played a big role in the electorate over the last few cycles. The survey finds the GOP congressional candidate is underperforming what Trump got in the 2024 election among these young voters: Forty-seven percent backed Trump according to the Fox News Voter Analysis election survey in November vs. 33% backing the Republicans today.

Young voters also have a more favorable view of the Democratic Party by 2 points (50% favorable, 48% unfavorable), a reversal from last July, when they viewed them negatively by 6. Their views of the Republican Party remain negative by 20 points (38% favorable, 58% unfavorable today vs. 40-60% in July 2024).

"The bad news for the Republicans is the age gap is back in these data," says Shaw. "The good news is this is the most volatile group in the electorate: they tend not to show up for midterm elections and, when they do, they are particularly responsive to short-term forces."

CLICK HERE FOR CROSSTABS AND TOPLINE

Conducted April 18-21, 2025, under the direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News survey includes interviews with a sample of 1,104 registered voters randomly selected from a national voter file.
Fox News Poll: Major increase in positive views on border security

Trump receives best marks on border security, deportation and immigration

Fifty percent of voters think U.S. border security is better now than it was two years ago, an improvement of 39 percentage points since the question was last asked. They also give President Donald Trump high marks for his handling of border security and immigration amid otherwise low job ratings on the issues.

A majority of 55% approve of Trump’s job performance on border security (40% disapprove), making it his only net positive rating. Almost all Republicans (90%), a large minority of independents (44%) and a quarter of Democrats (24%) approve of his handling of the border.

He also receives a record-high rating on immigration with 47% approving (48% disapprove) and another 45% approve of his work on deportations of illegal immigrants (49% disapprove). His marks are lower on guns (41% approve), foreign policy (40%), taxes (38%), the economy (38%), tariffs (33%) and inflation (33%).

FOX NEWS POLL: THE FIRST 100 DAYS OF PRESIDENT TRUMP'S SECOND TERM

By a 50%-22% margin, voters say border security is better today than it was two years ago. That’s a reversal from May 2023, when by 11%-51% they said it was worse.

FOX NEWS POLL: VOTERS HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT DOGE, EVEN AS THEY SEE NEED FOR CUTS

The shift is driven by more Republicans (+79 points) and independents (+30) saying border security has improved. Democrats were split on the subject two years ago (20% better, 21% worse), but now feel border security is worse rather than better (23% better, 36% worse).

While voters overall feel positive about the situation at the border, they feel less so about the treatment of illegal immigrants and those seeking asylum.

The largest share feels the Trump administration is being too tough both on illegal immigrants (44%) and those legally seeking asylum (46%) as opposed to not being tough enough (20% for illegal immigrants, 15% for asylum-seekers). About a third think Trump strikes the right balance with both groups.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Three-quarters of Democrats and roughly half of independents think the administration is being too tough on illegal immigrants and asylum-seekers, while majorities of Republicans think his treatment is about right.

Overall, these results are relatively unchanged from April 2019, the most recent trend on these questions.

"These data reinforce the notion that border security and immigration are separable issues," says Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who helps run the Fox News Poll along with Democrat Chris Anderson. "When it comes to securing the southern border, Trump’s policies are very popular. But the public response to how the administration is handling 11 million undocumented immigrants is mixed, and many are strongly opposed. If he’s to succeed politically on this front, he’ll need to message carefully."

Voters see federal district court judges who have challenged Trump on his policies, including on the deportation of illegal immigrants, as legitimately exercising their power as part of the country’s system of checks and balances (58%) as opposed to unlawfully interfering with the president’s constitutional authority (33%).

Majorities of Democrats and independents feel the judges are within their right to challenge the president, while a majority of Republicans think they are illegally interfering.

"While Trump may feel he is on favorable ground when he is arguing about deportation and immigration with Democrats, there are obvious risks to pushing it too far," says Anderson. "One is he is seen as doing it at the expense of the economic issues, which concern voters more than immigration. Another is ignoring the courts and losing supporters who see value in checks and balances on power."

Voter concerns about immigration land in the middle of 10 issues, with two-thirds (66%) saying they are extremely or very concerned about the matter. Inflation (82% extremely or very concerned), political divisions (78%), healthcare (76%), government spending (73%) and a recession (72%) rank higher than immigration (66%). Two-thirds (66%) are also concerned with Iran getting nuclear weapons (66%) and the trade war with China escalating (66%). Russia’s invasion of Ukraine (61%) and the stock market (58%) rank last.

Immigration, government spending and inflation are the top issues for Republicans; for Democrats it is inflation, recession concerns and healthcare; and for independents it is inflation, recession and political divisions.

CLICK HERE FOR CROSSTABS AND TOPLINE

Conducted April 18-21, under the direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News survey includes interviews with a sample of 1,104 registered voters randomly selected from a national voter file.
Fox News Poll: Voters uncertain on US path forward with Ukraine

Ratings of Trump on foreign policy are negative by 14 points

Voters are split over what to do when it comes to U.S. support for Ukraine in its fight against Russia, according to the latest Fox News survey of registered voters.

The poll, released Thursday, finds 4 in 10 (41%) think the U.S. should continue to support Ukraine for as long as it takes to win, while roughly the same amount (44%) thinks there should be a limited timeframe for U.S. support.

Since October 2023, voters have preferred a limited time horizon by slim margins. In February 2023, voters slightly preferred supporting for as long as it took.

FOX NEWS POLL: THE FIRST 100 DAYS OF PRESIDENT TRUMP'S SECOND TERM

There is sharp division along party lines: two-thirds of Democrats (64%) think support should be for as long as it takes, while about the same number of Republicans think it should be restricted (68%). Independents are split, with 40% preferring a limited timeframe, and 36% wanting to stay as long as it takes.

"Americans tend not to have strong, fixed opinions on foreign policy; They often follow cues from their party’s leaders," says Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who conducts Fox News surveys with Democrat Chris Anderson. "But the shift among Republicans away from an engaged, assertive foreign policy and toward an ‘America First’ stance is notable. This position is relatively more appealing to lower-status voters, yet it’s not clear whether hawkish Republicans will fall in line or whether Democratic leaders will abandon their historically dovish positions to counter Trump politically."

President Trump receives some of his worst job ratings on Ukraine and Russia. Only 36% of voters approve of how he is handling Russia, down from 40% last month. For Ukraine, 39% approve, down from 44% in March. He fares a touch better on his handling of Iran (42% approve), Israel (42%), and China (40%).

On Trump’s performance on foreign policy overall, 40% approve and 54% disapprove. Most Democrats, two-thirds of Independents, and nearly 1 in 5 Republicans disapprove.

FOX NEWS POLL: VOTERS HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT DOGE, EVEN AS THEY SEE NEED FOR CUTS

Yet, foreign policy issues aren’t a top concern to voters. The largest number are extremely or very concerned about inflation (82%). After that, it’s political divisions within the country (78%), health care (76%), government spending (73%), a recession (72%), immigration (66%), Iran getting a nuclear bomb (66%), a trade war with China escalating (66%), Russia’s invasion of Ukraine (61%), and the stock market (58%).

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

More Democrats than Republicans are concerned about a trade war with China escalating into a military confrontation (84% vs. 49%) and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine (79% vs. 46%).

Roughly equal shares of Democrats (66%) Republicans (68%), and Independents (61%) are concerned about Iran getting a nuclear weapon.

Still, the top concerns for Democrats are inflation, a recession, and health care.
Fox News Poll: The first 100 days of President Trump's second term

82% are extremely or very concerned about inflation, down from 89% in January

As President Donald Trump approaches the 100th day of his second term, a Fox News survey finds voters pleased with the job he is doing on border security, but displeased on most other issues — including inflation.

Trump receives his best marks on border security, as a 55% majority approves. That’s the only issue where his ratings are in positive territory. On immigration, a record high of 47% approve of Trump (48% disapprove), while a new low of 38% approve on the economy (56% disapprove). His worst ratings are on inflation (33% approve, 59% disapprove), followed by tariffs (33%-58%), foreign policy (40%-54%), taxes (38%-53%), and guns (41%-44%).

FOX NEWS POLL: TRUMP, REPUBLICANS AT RECORD-HIGH RATINGS AS DEMOCRATS FALTER

Overall approval of Trump’s job performance comes in at 44%, down 5 points from 49% approval in March. That’s lower than the approval of Joe Biden (54%), Barack Obama (62%), and George W. Bush (63%) at the 100-day mark in their presidencies. It’s also lower by 1 point compared to Trump’s 45% approval at this point eight years ago.

Some 59% of voters are unhappy with how things are going in the country. That’s an improvement since the end of former President Biden’s term (68% dissatisfied), but worse than four years ago at the beginning of Biden’s term (53% dissatisfied). It’s also worse than the 100-day mark of Trump’s first term (53% dissatisfied). Since his inauguration in January, satisfaction among Democrats has turned to dissatisfaction and vice versa among Republicans. Dissatisfaction remained steady among Independents.

Voters remain gloomy about the economy, as 71% rate economic conditions negatively and 55% say it is getting worse for their family. Both of those numbers are slight improvements compared to where they stood in December. Still, only 28% say it feels like things are getting better and by a 22-point margin more think Trump’s policies are hurting rather than helping the economy. Trump is underwater by a narrower 11-point margin when voters are asked what they expect from his policies in the long run (40% help vs. 51% hurt).

FOX NEWS POLL: VOTERS HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT DOGE, EVEN AS THEY SEE NEED FOR CUTS

They are also less optimistic about the future than they were at the beginning of Trump’s first term. Based on the first 100 days, 38% overall and 75% of Republicans say they feel encouraged about the next four years. In 2017, those numbers were 45% and 84%, respectively.

While inflation remains a major worry, the 82% who say they are extremely or very concerned about high prices is the lowest since September 2021. This marks a decline from 89% in January and a high of 93% in July 2022.

Another 8 in 10 voters are concerned about political divisions (78%), while about 7 in 10 feel the same about healthcare (76%), government spending (73%) and a recession (72%). Two-thirds or fewer are worried about immigration (66%), Iran getting a nuclear bomb (66%), Russia’s invasion of Ukraine (61%) and the stock market (58%).

While there’s bipartisan concern about inflation, the parties are split on other issues. Anxiety about a recession and healthcare are the other top issues for Democrats, while Republicans worry more about government spending and immigration.

"As we’ve moved from one administration to another and the Trump administration tries to find its footing, many still see our leaders as unresponsive to their main concerns," says Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who conducts Fox New surveys with Democrat Chris Anderson. "Partisans have flipped, of course, so now it’s Democrats who are most worried, but many Independents and Republicans are also skeptical their economic fears are being addressed."

Nearly three-quarters (72%) believe tariffs will drive up the cost of products, including majorities of Democrats (88%), independents (76%) and Republicans (55%). A record 55% think tariffs hurt the economy and a plurality say they hurt U.S. jobs (44% hurt vs. 36% help). Two-thirds worry a trade war with China could escalate into a military confrontation.

On the Department of Government Efficiency’s efforts to reform the federal government, almost half say it’s likely DOGE will make government more efficient (49%), improve the economy (47%) and improve government services (46%), while fewer expect it will lower their taxes (43%).

A slight majority, 52%, say the Trump administration has not been "competent and effective" in managing the federal government — unchanged from the number who said the same in 2017.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Federal district court judges have challenged some Trump administration policies with regard to, among other things, firing executive branch workers and deporting illegal immigrants. Voters side with the judges, as 58% think they are legitimately exercising their power in accordance with the Constitution’s system of checks and balances, while 33% say they are unlawfully interfering with the president’s constitutional authority.

Two-thirds say the president cannot ignore court rulings, and voters are significantly more concerned, by a 19-point margin, about the president disregarding the judiciary than about the courts overstepping their authority.

Among Republicans, 36% agree the judiciary is legitimately exercising its power and a slim 51% majority says the president can’t ignore court rulings.

"While Trump may feel he’s on favorable ground when arguing about immigration with Democrats, there are obvious risks to pushing it too far," says Anderson. "One risk is he is seen as doing it at the expense of economic issues, which concern voters more than immigration. Another is in ignoring the courts and losing supporters who see value in checks and balances."

CLICK HERE FOR CROSSTABS AND TOPLINE

Fewer voters are hoping for Trump’s success in his second term. When asked to set aside how they voted, 62% say they want him to succeed — an 18-point drop from the 80% who expressed that sentiment eight years ago. While support among Republicans holds steady, with more than 9 in 10 still wishing Trump well, the share of Democrats and independents who want him to succeed has plummeted by 30 points or more since 2017.

Eighty-nine percent of those who supported Trump in 2024 remain satisfied with their choice. That’s down from 92% who felt that way four years ago and 97% eight years ago. Overall, 85% say they are still satisfied with their vote for president, including 90% of Kamala Harris supporters.

Poll-pourri

Investors are more likely than non-investors to approve of Trump’s job performance on the economy, inflation, tariffs and taxes, and they rate economic conditions more positively both for the nation and their family. And while more investors are concerned about the stock market, a larger number of non-investors are worried about inflation and a recession this year.

Forty-two percent approve of the job JD Vance is doing as vice president, while 51% disapprove.

For Elon Musk’s work with DOGE, 39% approve and 56% disapprove.

Nearly half of voters have a favorable opinion of Trump as a person: 45% favorable and 55% unfavorable, for a net negative rating of 10 points. Views of first lady Melania Trump are positive by 6 points, as 45% also have favorable opinion of her, while 39% view her unfavorably. In June 2017, 51% viewed the first lady positively, while 47% viewed the president favorably.

One-third believe divine intervention helped secure Trump’s return to the White House. Thirty-two percent feel he was saved from two assassination attempts because God wanted him to be president again, including majorities of White evangelical Christians (56%), Republicans (60%), 2024 Trump supporters (62%) and MAGA supporters (70%).

Conducted April 18-21, under the direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News survey includes interviews with a sample of 1,104 registered voters randomly selected from a national voter file. Respondents spoke with live interviewers on landlines (127) and cellphones (703) or completed the survey online after receiving a text (274). Results based on the full sample have a margin of sampling error of ±3 percentage points. Sampling error for results among subgroups is higher. In addition to sampling error, question wording and order can influence results. Weights are generally applied to age, race, education and area variables to ensure the demographics are representative of the registered voter population. Sources for developing weight targets include the American Community Survey, Fox News Voter Analysis and voter file data.

Fox News’ Victoria Balara contributed to this report.

Fox News Poll: An increasing number of voters feel the rich aren't paying enough taxes

6 in 10 feel their taxes are too high, down from a record in 2024

Most Americans think they pay too much in taxes — and the rich don’t pay enough.

With Tax Day approaching, the latest Fox News survey finds 59% of voters think the taxes they pay are too high, down from a record 64% last year. Some 38% think what they pay is about right, and just a smidge say too low (2%).

FOX NEWS POLL: TRUMP, REPUBLICANS AT RECORD-HIGH RATINGS AT DEMOCRATS FALTER

Voters traditionally think their taxes are too expensive, and the lowest recorded in a Fox News survey was 51% in April 2004 when the question was first asked (44% felt taxes were about right at that time, a record).

Partisans across the board think their taxes are too high: Republicans (65% too high), independents (61%) and Democrats (51%). The drop in those thinking they pay too much comes mostly from Republicans (down 11 points since March 2024) and independents (-11).

Meanwhile, an increasing number of voters think the rich are not paying enough. When asked what bothers them the most about paying federal income taxes, 45% say it is the affluent not paying their fair share, up from 34% in 2019 and 28% in 2014.

FOX NEWS POLL: VOTERS HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT DOGE, EVEN AS THEY SEE NEED FOR CUTS

Since 2014, the share of Democrats who think the rich aren’t paying enough is up 30 points, while the same number has increased by 14 points among independents and by 5 points among Republicans.

Voters’ other top frustrations with income taxes include the way the government spends taxpayers' money (26%), the amount of taxes paid (12%), the complexity of the system (7%) and people not paying at all (7%).

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Republicans’ biggest gripe with taxes is government spending (45%), while Democrats (73%) and independents (44%) are more troubled by the wealthy not paying enough.

Views are consistent among higher and lower-income families, as across all income groups, more voters think the rich are not paying enough and their taxes are too high.

CLICK HERE FOR CROSSTABS AND TOPLINE

Conducted March 14-17 under the direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News survey includes interviews with a sample of 994 registered voters randomly selected from a national voter file.
Fox News Poll: After Surgeon General’s alcohol warning, will voters still raise a glass?

By just a sip, more prefer wine than beer or hard alcohol

Despite widespread voter approval of the U.S. Surgeon General’s advisory on the link between alcohol and cancer, a majority says they won’t skip happy hour, according to a new Fox News survey.

Nearly 8 in 10 voters approve of Surgeon General Vivek Murthy’s January 3 recommendation to put cancer warning labels on alcoholic beverages, while 2 in 10 disapprove.

Approval is 70% or higher among almost all demographic groups, with the exception of men ages 45 and over (68%). And support goes above 80% among self-described "very" liberals (85%), women ages 45+ (82%), urban voters and White evangelical Christians (81% each).

TRUMP AND A HEALTHIER AMERICA WELCOMED BY DOCTORS: ‘NEW GOLDEN AGE’

Despite the new advisory, two-thirds (66%) say it won’t prompt them to have fewer cocktails, while roughly one-third say it will (31%).

Stock prices for various beer and liquor companies saw a dip shortly after the Surgeon General’s announcement, but it’s unclear when or if the advisory labels will be implemented.

Those most likely to reduce their alcohol consumption because of the notice include Hispanic voters (42%), very liberals (42%), men under 45 (42%), and voters under 30 (40%). Voters with household incomes of $100,000 or more (74%), voters 65 and over (73%), those living in rural areas (72%), and White men (71%) are among those most likely to say they won’t.

DOCTORS HOPE FOR A HEALTHIER AMERICA, PLUS IVANKA TRUMP'S WORKOUT ROUTINE

The survey, released Thursday, also finds that by just a splash more voters prefer wine (24%) than beer (21%) or hard alcohol (19%). Although the largest number (35%) says they don’t drink alcohol at all -- even when it isn’t dry January. Wine is the most popular choice among women, while for men it’s beer.

Wine drinkers (37%) are more likely to say they will change their behavior because of the Surgeon General’s warning than those favoring beer (26%) and liquor (22%).

CLICK HERE FOR TOPLINE AND CROSSTABS

Conducted January 10-13, 2025 under the direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News survey includes interviews with a sample of 922 registered voters randomly selected from a national voter file.
3 in 10 voters think ending DEI programs is extremely important, poll shows, as federal deadline looms

Nearly one-third (29%) of voters say it's 'extremely important' that Trump focuses on cutting DEI initiatives, Fox News poll finds

Just two days into his term, President Donald Trump is making waves in Washington, and a December Fox News Poll shows that the voters are behind him. On Monday, Trump signed an executive order ending federal DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) programs and initiatives.

Almost one-third of voters (29%) agreed that it is "extremely important" that Trump focuses on getting DEI out of the government. When broken down by party, 44% of Republicans, 16% of Democrats and 24% of independents want the president to ax federal DEI initiatives.

For the poll conducted Dec. 6-9, 2024, Fox News sampled 1,015 registered voters who gave their answers via landlines, cellphones and online survey links received via text message. The phone numbers were picked at random using a probability proportionate to size method, which means phone numbers are proportionally representative to the number of voters in all regions across the state. The results have a margin of error of ±3 percentage points.

"Individual dignity, hard work, and excellence are fundamental to American greatness," the White House wrote in a statement about the order. "Every man and woman should have the opportunity to go as far as their hard work, individual initiative, and competence can take them. In America, excellence, grit, and determination is our strength."

The federal Office of Personnel Management notified heads of agencies and departments on Tuesday that they must begin taking steps to close all DEI offices by the end of the day on Wednesday, and place government workers in those offices on paid leave.

WHITE HOUSE OPM ORDERS ALL DEI OFFICES TO BEGIN CLOSING BY END OF DAY WEDNESDAY

Trump’s victory, particularly his winning the popular vote, was seen as a resounding rejection of DEI and "wokeness" overall. One particularly effective ad, which turned out to be devastating for the Democrats, used the tagline "Kamala is for they/them, President Trump is for you." Many voters cited inflation and rising prices, as well as cultural issues, as reasons for backing Trump.

IS THE WOKE ERA OVER?

On June 25, 2021, just over six months into his presidency, President Joe Biden signed an executive order to "to strengthen the Federal workforce by promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility."

"To further advance equity within the Federal Government, this order establishes that it is the policy of my Administration to cultivate a workforce that draws from the full diversity of the Nation," the 2021 order read. "As the Nation’s largest employer, the Federal Government must be a model for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, where all employees are treated with dignity and respect"

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

DEI became a focus of American cultural wars in 2020, following the death of George Floyd, which sparked a national conversation about race as well as riots that went on for months. Biden would go on to win his election the following November and sign the executive order just over a year after Floyd’s death.

CLICK HERE FOR TOPLINE AND CROSSTABS

Conducted December 6-9, 2024 under the direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News survey includes interviews with a sample of 1,015 registered voters randomly selected from a national voter file. Respondents spoke with live interviewers on landlines (125) and cellphones (699) or completed the survey online after receiving a text (191). Results based the full registered voter sample has a margin of sampling error of ± 3 percentage points. Sampling error associated with results among subgroup is higher. In addition to sampling error, question wording and order can influence results. Weights are generally applied to age, race, education, and area variables to ensure the demographics of respondents are representative of the registered voter population.
Fox News Poll: Trump is the most popular he’s ever been

52% approve of Trump’s handling of the transition, while 46% disapprove, a reversal from 2017

As Inauguration Day approaches, President-elect Trump receives his highest favorable rating and half of registered voters approve of his handling of the presidential transition. Still, a majority does not view his election win as a mandate, and more think it was a rejection of the outgoing administration rather than an endorsement of Trump.

The latest Fox News Poll, released Wednesday, finds that by a 13-point margin, more voters view Trump’s victory as a referendum on President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ policies and performance (54%) than a validation of Trump’s (41%). That includes 71% of Democrats, 64% of independents and 34% of Republicans saying it was more of a rejection.

Overall, 52% approve of Trump’s handling of the transition, while 46% disapprove, a reversal from 2017 when just 37% approved and 54% disapproved. Nonwhites (+26 points), voters under age 30 (+18), voters with a college degree (+17), Republicans (+16) and independents (+15) are among those with a more positive view this time around. Even approval among Democrats is up 8 points.

While Trump describes his 2024 win as a mandate, a slim 51% majority disagrees. Some 4 in 10 (42%) call it a mandate, including 69% of Trump supporters (81% of Harris supporters said it wasn’t).

FOX NEWS POLL: VOTERS VIEW 2024 NEGATIVELY BUT HAVE HOPE FOR THE FUTURE

At the same time, there is popular backing for some policy proposals the president-elect has discussed. Voters overwhelmingly support the deportation of either all illegal immigrants (30%) or at least those accused of crimes (59%).

Majorities favor ending daylight saving time (62% favor) as well as extending the 2017 tax reform law (54% favor). Smaller numbers support taking over the Panama Canal (42% favor), imposing tariffs on Canada and Mexico to influence immigration policy (42% favor) and investigating those who prosecuted Trump (41% favor). The least popular is purchasing Greenland (37% favor).

Regardless of the policies, majorities want compromise from the government — and they want it more from Democrats than Trump. By a 58-point margin, voters think Democrats should look for opportunities to work with the president-elect as opposed to resisting his agenda and causing division (78% compromise, 20% resist). They want the same from Trump, but to a lesser degree: 65% say compromise, 32% want him to advance his agenda at the risk of division.

Majorities of Democrats and independents want both Trump and the Democratic Party to find common ground, while Republicans want Trump to advance his agenda but Democrats to compromise.

"While Americans clearly want Trump and the GOP to work with the other side to bolster the economy, they are even clearer in their desire for the Democrats to put aside any obstructionist impulses they might have," says Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who conducts the Fox News survey with Democrat Chris Anderson. "The 'resistance' 2.0 is not a popular position."

When asked their priorities for the new administration without the aid of a list, a quarter focused on the economy/jobs (13%) or inflation and high prices (11%). Another 13% said immigration and deportation, while Making American Great Again (9%) and Trump resigning (9%) round out the top five.

The compromise voters want might be tough, as the only priority shared by Democrats and Republicans is a focus on the economy. Democrats’ top priorities are Trump’s resignation (17%), the economy/jobs (12%), uniting the country (11%) and inflation (8%), while for Republicans, it’s immigration/deportation (24%), economy/jobs (14%), Making American Great Again (14%) and inflation (11%).

Tariffs were a staple of Trump’s campaign rhetoric, but just 1% of voters feel they should be a top priority, and another 50% think imposing tariffs on imports will hurt the economy rather than help it — up 11 points from September. Since June 2019, when the question was first asked, voters have consistently been more likely to view tariffs as more harmful than helpful to the economy.

When voters are asked about their level of concern over certain issues, inflation is far and away number one, with 89% saying they are extremely or very concerned.

The second-biggest worry is natural disasters like hurricanes or wildfires (79% extremely or very). That’s up 9 points since the question was last asked in 2018, a year that also saw historically intense hurricanes and California wildfires.

Rounding out the list of concerns are political divisions (77% extremely or very), terrorist attacks (74%), energy policy (72%), border security (67%), illegal immigration (66%), gun laws (65%), war in the Middle East (65%), climate change (64%), Russia’s Ukraine invasion (63%) and transgender issues (34%).

As with priorities, the partisans only agree on inflation being a major concern. Democrats’ largest concerns are natural disasters (89%), climate change (87%), inflation (84%) and political divisions (83%). For Republicans, it’s inflation (93%), border security (88%), illegal immigration (88%) and terrorist attacks (80%).

Favorable ratings for Trump and congressional leaders

The survey also finds Trump’s personal favorable rating at 50%, up from 48% in October — and the highest it’s ever been in a Fox News Poll. An equal share has an unfavorable view.

Still, compared to past incoming presidents, Trump only bests himself — in 2017, his incoming favorable rating was 42%. In 2020, Biden’s favorability was at 59%, while Barack Obama’s was 76% in 2009 and George W. Bush’s was 58% in 2001.

Trump currently does better than his 2024 opponents as Biden has a -19 net negative rating (40% favorable, 59% unfavorable) and Harris has a -10 rating (45-55%).

The incoming president’s strength comes from 9 in 10 Republicans coalescing behind him (90% favorable), as well as 4 in 10 independents (43%). One in 10 Democrats (12%) also view Trump favorably, double what Republicans rate Biden (7%) and Harris (6%).

Vice President-elect JD Vance has a -3 net negative rating (43% favorable, 46% unfavorable).

On Jan. 3, the 119th Congress was sworn into office and Rep. Mike Johnson, R-La., won re-election for House speaker — his favorable rating sits at -9 (28% favorable, 37% unfavorable), while one-third can’t rate him (35%).

It’s about the same for other top congressional leaders: Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., is at -10 (15% favorable, 25% unfavorable, 60% can’t rate), while Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., is at -16 (30%, 46%, 23%) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., is at -2 (27%, 29%, 44%).

Views of Elon Musk are waning, as his ratings are underwater by 9 points (43% favorable, 52% unfavorable) compared to his -4 in October and +1 in 2022.

FOX NEWS POLL: NEGATIVE ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL RATINGS FOR BIDEN AS HE EXITS

The poll asks about George Soros for the first time, and his ratings are negative by 26 points (17% favorable, 43% unfavorable), while 40% are unable to rate him.

Overall, 26% approve of the job Congress is doing, a 7-point improvement since last February, but not quite the 34% high during Biden’s presidency in June 2021.

Israel, Ukraine

By 22 points, more side with the Israelis (54%) over the Palestinians (32%), a record low and down from a 50-point preference in October 2023, shortly after the conflict first started. Support for Israelis has declined across the board since then, including among Republicans. Still, voters favor Israel over Iran by a wide 66-point margin (77% back Israel, 11% Iran).

The poll was conducted entirely before Israel and Hamas reached a cease-fire deal on Wednesday.

CLICK TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Voters give Ukraine (42%) a 1-point edge over Russia (41%) when asked who is winning the war. That’s down from a 10-point edge in May 2023 and 17 points in January 2023. Voters are also split over how long to give Ukraine support in its fight against Russia: 48% say there should be a limited timeframe, while 47% say U.S. support should continue as long as it takes.

CLICK HERE FOR CROSSTABS AND TOPLINE

Conducted Jan. 10-13, 2025, under the direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News survey includes interviews with a sample of 922 registered voters randomly selected from a national voter file.
Fox News Poll: Voters view 2024 negatively but have hope for the future

At the same time, positive sentiment on the year is the highest it has been since 2020

The 2024 presidential election dominated the news cycle this year and not only are a majority of voters feeling hopeful about the outcome, but they are also increasingly hopeful for the future of the country. And while half feel it was a bad year, the number saying it was good is the highest it has been since 2020 (at the end of the first year of the pandemic).

When it comes to the future of the country, 55% are extremely or very hopeful for what’s ahead. That is up 2 points since 2022. Between 2021 and 2022, optimism about the country’s future increased by 10 points. The question was not asked in 2023.

Overall, 45% are not very or not at all hopeful.

FOX NEWS POLL: VOTERS FEEL HOPEFUL POST-ELECTION, WANT TRUMP TO FOCUS ON INFLATION

The current numbers are driven by partisan divides -- overwhelming majorities of Republicans are hopeful for the future of the country (86%), while majorities of Democrats (72%) and Independents (54%) are not.

In 2021, things were reversed among the partisans, although to a lesser degree, with 6 in 10 Democrats saying they were hopeful, while 7 in 10 Republicans and 6 in 10 Independents saying they were not.

"Since the 1990s, attitudes toward the future are strongly correlated with partisanship," says Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who conducts the Fox News Poll with Democrat Chris Anderson. "Even so, there’s more general optimism this year than we’ve seen in a while, as the fear and rancor of the past few years seems to be waning."

Looking back on 2024, 4 in 10 (40%) say it was a good year for their family, while half (50%) say it was a bad year for a net rating of -10. That’s an improvement from -14 last year (39% good, 53% bad) and substantially better than in 2020, when it was underwater by 44 points (23% good, 67% bad). From 2012 to 2019, more voters felt positive about their year than negative.

FOX NEWS POLL: NEGATIVE ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL RATINGS FOR BIDEN AS HE EXITS

By a 36-point margin, voters say 2024 was a bad year for America overall (28% good vs. 64% bad), but that’s better than 2020’s 65-point net negative rating (13% good, 78% bad). Since 2018, when the question was first asked, views on the country’s end-of-year report card have been in a deficit.

Democrats (50% their family, 42% the country) are more likely than Republicans (34%, 19%) and Independents (33%, 21%) to feel 2024 was a good year for them and the country.

NEW NATIONAL POLL REVEALS APPROVAL RATINGS FOR BIDEN, TRUMP AMIDST TRANSITION

Another hopeful note…

Half of voters say "hopeful" describes how they feel about the 2024 presidential results (54%) -- the highest of any other feeling including relieved (50%), surprised (50%), excited (48%), scared (46%), depressed (40%), and angry (39%).

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Fox News Poll: Negative economic and political ratings for Biden as he exits

Pardons provoke disapproval — both Biden’s for Hunter and Trump’s planned for Jan. 6

Joe Biden ends his presidency with voters by a 30-point margin saying they have been hurt rather than helped by his economic policies.

In addition, a new Fox News national survey finds that most voters not only have negative views of the economy (77% negative) and their personal financial situation (62% negative) — they also feel things are getting worse (64%). Three-quarters say inflation has caused them financial hardship over the last six months, including about one-third who call it a "serious" hardship, and those numbers have held steady for more than two years.

Views on the economy are in negative territory by 54 points (23% positive, 77% negative). That is worse than at the beginning of Biden’s term by 14 points, and that increase in pessimism comes a touch more from Democrats (16 points) than Republicans (13) and independents (11).

While few Democrats say Biden’s economic policies have hurt them (17%), only one-third say they helped (33%), with half saying his policies didn’t make a difference either way (50%).

Overall, nearly three times as many say the president’s economic policies have hurt (47%) rather than helped them (17%), while one-third say no difference (35%).

FOX NEWS VOTER ANALYSIS: HOW TRUMP REGAINED THE WHITE HOUSE

Big picture, 68% are unhappy with the direction of the country (up 3 points since August). That small increase comes mainly from a 20-point jump in dissatisfaction among Democrats, which is mostly offset by fewer Republicans being dissatisfied by 15-points — presumably both shifts can be attributed to Trump’s re-election.

On the whole, only 1 in 4 think history will consider Biden an above-average president. One in 3 says he will be remembered as one of the country’s worst presidents, which is a touch better than the 4 in 10 who said the same about Trump at the end of his first term. Yet, in 2020, three times as many said Trump (22%) would be remembered as "one of the country’s greatest presidents" as feel that way about Biden today (7%).

Looking ahead, 39% think the economy will get better in 2025. That’s up from 22% who felt that way a year ago.

There is a significant partisan gap in views on the economy’s future, as Republicans (63%) are more than three times as likely as Democrats (17%) to say it will be better next year.

"The election post-mortems have emphasized the role of the economy in shaping the outcome, and it’s obvious that bad economic vibes hurt the incumbent party," says Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who helps run the Fox News Poll along with Democrat Chris Anderson. "What we’re seeing is a predictable shift toward optimism among Republicans and independents. We’ll see if Trump can sustain and perhaps even expand on that momentum with policies that lower prices and decrease taxes."

Biden leaves office with a 41% job approval rating, just one point above his record low. Fifty-eight percent disapprove, including about 1 in 5 Democrats and most independents (76%). Disapproval is at all-time highs among voters under age 45, Hispanics and urban voters.

Biden’s 41% approval is lower than Trump’s 47% approval at the end of his first term, former President Barack Obama’s 57% when he left office and former President Bill Clinton’s 62% approval in 2000, but higher than former President George W. Bush’s 34% approval at the end of his presidency.

Overall, the president received his record high of 56% approval in June 2021 — one of only five times more voters than not rated him positively. His approval rating hit a record low of 40% in July 2022, November 2023 and October 2024.

FOX NEWS POLL: VOTERS FEEL HOPEFUL POST-ELECTION, WANT TRUMP TO FOCUS ON INFLATION

Biden ends his term with lopsided negative ratings on some key issues, as only about one-third approve of the job he’s doing on border security (31% approve-67% disapprove) and inflation (34%-64%). His marks on foreign policy are a bit better (37%-60%), but that is a record low, and he is still underwater by 23 points.

Poll-pourri

After repeatedly promising not to, Biden granted a presidential pardon to his son, Hunter, on Dec. 1 for multiple felony convictions. Sixty-three percent of voters disapprove of the pardon — about double the share who approve (32%). Six in 10 Democrats approve, while 7 in 10 independents and 9 in 10 Republicans disapprove.

Overall, views are the same when voters are asked about Trump’s commitment to pardon people convicted for the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol: 62% disapprove, 34% approve. The partisan dynamic here flips, as 9 in 10 Democrats and 7 in 10 Independents disapprove, while 6 in 10 Republicans approve.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Conducted Dec. 6-9 under the direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News survey includes interviews with a sample of 1,015 registered voters randomly selected from a national voter file.
Fox News Poll: Two-thirds favor deporting immigrants who live in U.S. illegally

Support for allowing illegal immigrants who have jobs to stay continues to decrease

At rallies across the country, former President Donald Trump has pledged to enact mass deportations of illegal immigrants, something he vowed to do during his first term but never fully realized.

The latest Fox News Poll, released Thursday, finds two-thirds of voters favor such a policy – exactly where it was last December and up 15 points since the question was first asked in 2015. Nearly one-third opposes mass deportations.

Since 2015, support for deporting those living in the U.S. illegally is up across the board, but most notably among nonwhite voters (+24 points favor), Republicans (+21 points), rural voters (+20), urban voters (+19), and men (+16). Democrats are also more likely to favor this now but by a smaller 8-point margin.

At the same time, support for allowing illegal immigrants with jobs to stay in the country and apply for legal status is decreasing. Fifty-eight percent of voters favor allowing those with jobs to stay, down 4 points from last year and 10 points since 2015.

While support for allowing those with jobs to stay and apply for legal status is down among most demographics, Republicans are the driving force behind the dip – down 28 points from a decade ago. Democrats are the opposite; they are more likely to favor allowing them to stay by 4 points.

FOX NEWS POLL: TRUMP AHEAD OF HARRIS BY 2 POINTS NATIONALLY

Immigration has been one of three top issues this election cycle, along with abortion and the economy (the top issue). The new Fox News survey is no different: 40% put the economy at number one, followed by 17% for immigration, and 15% for abortion. No other issue reaches double digits.

When asked to name the single most important issue or factor motivating them to vote, Trump supporters cite immigration (17%) and the economy (18%) as top motivators. For Vice President Harris supporters, it’s dislike of Trump (17%), followed by abortion and protecting democracy (14% each) motivating them vote. Just 1% of Harris supporters cite immigration.

By a 15-point margin, Trump is seen as better to handle immigration, up from a 10-point advantage in September. This advantage isn’t new, as the former president has been consistently beating Harris and Biden on this issue.

FOX NEWS POLL: HARRIS, TRUMP IN CLOSE RACE IN NORTH CAROLINA

Still, one reason the presidential race is so close is because roughly 1 in 10 voters who say immigration is their top issue (9%) back Harris, as do 1 in 10 who think Trump can better handle the immigration issue (13%).

Overall, Trump has a 2-point advantage over Harris in the presidential matchup (50% to 48%) among both registered voters and likely voters, well within the margin of error.

From the southern border to international wars…

-- Voters are increasingly likely to think the U.S. should be doing less when it comes to Ukraine and its war with Russia. Forty percent think the U.S. should be doing less, up 5 points since May and up 14 points from 2022. Roughly a quarter think we should be doing more while one third say the help is about the right amount.

-- Views on U.S. support to Israel are split: 32% say too supportive, 29% not supportive enough, and 35% say it’s about right. This is about where it was in May, the last time the question was asked, but since November 2023 the number saying not supportive enough has increased (21% to 29%) while those saying about right has decreased (45% to 35%).

-- By 13 points, voters view Trump as better able to handle the war in the Middle East (55% Trump vs. 42% Harris). That’s up from a 7-point lead in September.

CLICK HERE FOR TOPLINE & CROSSTABS

Conducted October 11-14, 2024 under the direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News survey includes interviews with a sample of 1,110 registered voters randomly selected from a national voter file. Respondents spoke with live interviewers on landlines (129) and cellphones (719) or completed the survey online after receiving a text (262). Results based on both the full registered voter sample and the subsample of 870 likely voters have a margin of sampling error of ±3 percentage points. Sampling error associated with results among subgroup is higher. In addition to sampling error, question wording and order can influence results. Weights are generally applied to age, race, education, and area variables to ensure the demographics of respondents are representative of the registered voter population. Sources for developing weight targets include the American Community Survey, Fox News Voter Analysis, and voter file data. Likely voters are based on a probabilistic statistical model that relies on past vote history, interest in the current election, age, education, race, ethnicity, church attendance, and marital status.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

Fox News Poll: Harris, Trump in close race in North Carolina

In the state's race for governor, Democratic candidate Josh Stein holds 16-point lead over embattled GOP nominee Mark Robinson

Vice President Harris has a 2 percentage-point edge over former President Trump in the latest Fox News survey of North Carolina registered voters (50% Harris, 48% Trump). Last month, Trump was ahead by 1 point (50% to 49%), for a 3-point shift in the presidential race.

Among likely voters, the race flips with Trump on top by just a single point, 50% to 49%.

When third-party candidates are included, Harris is up 1 point among registered voters (3% support third party), while Trump is up 2 points among likely voters (3% to others).

NORTH CAROLINA GOP FOCUSING ON ‘HAND-TO-HAND POLITICAL COMBAT’ TO RAMP UP GROUND GAME IN BATTLEGROUND STATE

The results among both registered and likely voters are within the margin of error.

Harris’s strongest support comes from Black voters, urban voters, and college-educated women, while for Trump it is Whites without a college degree (particularly men without degrees), rural voters, and White evangelicals.

Most Democrats (98%) and Republicans (96%) back their party’s candidate, while the small group of independents favors Harris by 7 points.

Slightly more Harris supporters (92%) than Trump supporters (89%) are certain of their choice.

Harris is viewed more positively than Trump among Tar Heel voters — 50% have a favorable view of her vs. 49% unfavorable for a +1 net positive rating. Trump’s rating is negative by 7 points (46% favorable, 53% unfavorable).

Just 30% say the economy is in either excellent (7%) or good (23%) condition, while another 70% say either fair (30%) or poor (40%). This negativity is a far cry from November 2019 (late into Trump’s term as president) when 54% were positive and 44% negative.

By 7 points, voters are more likely to think Trump can better handle the economy and about the same number give him the edge on making the country safe (+6). He does best on immigration and border security, where he leads Harris by 15 points, down from a 19-point lead in August.

4 MARK ROBINSON CAMPAIGN STAFFERS RESIGN IN WAKE OF REPORT ON PORN WEBSITE POSTS

Harris does best on the issue of abortion, where she is preferred by 16 points. Voters also give her the edge on helping the middle class (+7), protecting democracy (+6), and fighting for people like you (+5).

The candidates tie on who can bring needed change.

"The race here will be close, but Trump still holds the edge on the issues that matter most to North Carolina voters," says Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who conducts the Fox News Poll along with Democrat Chris Anderson. "So long as they think Trump is more likely to make the country more prosperous and safer, he’s the odds-on favorite."

At least 8 in 10 Black voters think Harris is better equipped to handle these issues and actions, except when it comes to immigration, where Trump eats into Harris’ lead with 25% saying he would better handle immigration vs. 73% for Harris.

The survey also finds the gap in the gubernatorial race in North Carolina has widened. Democrat Josh Stein (56%) has a 16-point lead over Republican Mark Robinson (40%), a 5-point increase since last month (54% Stein, 43% Robinson).

The survey was conducted after news of alleged inflammatory comments Robinson made on a porn website.

"It is unlikely the toxic nature of the Republican gubernatorial candidate will cause Trump voters to switch to Harris, but it could affect turnout," says Anderson. "It complicates things for the Trump campaign to have to actively avoid the GOP candidate, and there could be some Trump-leaning independents who are so turned off by Robinson they decide it’s not worth voting."

Trump endorsed Robinson in March but has yet to comment on whether he’ll pull his support.

Some 14% of Stein supporters split their ticket and back Trump in the presidential race, while just 4% of Robinson supporters back Harris.

A few more things…

-- By 17 points, those who say they will vote early in North Carolina back Harris. Among the smaller group of Election Day voters, Trump leads by 20 points.

--The views of the vice-presidential candidates play out the same as the presidential, with Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz receiving a net positive rating of 5 (46% favorable vs. 41% unfavorable) and Ohio Republican Sen. JD Vance net negative by 6 (41-47%).

--Views of President Joe Biden are net negative by 15 points (42% favorable, 57% unfavorable).

CLICK HERE FOR TOPLINE AND CROSSTABS

Conducted September 20-24, 2024 under the joint direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News Poll includes interviews with a sample of 991 North Carolina registered voters randomly selected from a statewide voter file.
Fox News Poll: Harris, Trump locked in tight race in battleground Pennsylvania

Race tied among likely voters, although more Harris supporters are certain of their choice

Vice President Harris and former President Trump are locked in a tight race in Pennsylvania, mostly unchanged since July. This despite the array of newsworthy events since then, including the Democratic National Convention, a presidential debate, and a second Trump assassination attempt.

The new Fox News survey of Pennsylvania voters finds Harris narrowly ahead of Trump by 2 points (50-48%) among registered voters, while the race is tied at 49% each among likely voters.

The July results, conducted shortly after President Biden dropped out and endorsed Harris, but before she was conclusively the nominee, were deadlocked at 49% each. But even in March, when Biden was the presumed nominee, the contest was close to even.

WORKING CLASS WILL COME HOME TO HARRIS, RALLYGOERS IN POSTINDUSTRIAL PENNSYLVANIANS SAY

Since July, Harris has widened her lead among women (by 9 points), nonwhite voters (+8), and voters under age 30 (+17). Her support has held steady among two other sources of strength: college graduates and urban voters.

Ninety-two percent of Harris supporters are certain of their vote versus 86% of Trump supporters.

Trump’s best groups include men, Whites without a college degree, independents, and rural voters. He has nearly doubled his lead among men and the small group of independents since July.

‘ABUSE OF POWER’: HOUSE GOP OPENS PROBE INTO UKRAINIAN PRESIDENT'S TRIP TO BATTLEGROUND PENNSYLVANIA

Another reason the race is close is Trump has minimized Harris’ edge among suburban voters (+2). This is mostly due to the large gender gap among suburban voters: suburban men support Trump by 14 points (suburban women go for Harris by 17). Meanwhile, Harris has successfully peeled off disaffected Republicans: she has 1 in 4 non-MAGA Republicans backing her.

In 2016, Trump beat Hillary Clinton by less than a point in the Keystone State, while Biden’s victory was by just over a point in 2020.

In the expanded ballot (includes third-party candidates) Harris has a 2-point edge among registered voters while Trump is ahead by 1 point among likely voters.

All results for the Harris-Trump head-to-heads and expanded ballot are within the error margin .

"Pennsylvania is not breaking open and shouldn’t be expected to," says Democratic Pollster Chris Anderson who conducts Fox News surveys alongside Republican Daron Shaw. "Both candidates have a little way to go to consolidate their bases and whoever does a better job there could determine who wins the state."

The economy is the top issue for voters this election and most Pennsylvanians have a negative view of the economy (71%).

More voters think Trump can better handle the economy than Harris by 6 points. Still, that’s half the advantage he had on the issue in April (+12 points over Biden).

Trump does best on immigration and border security (+17) and is also more trusted to make the country safer (+5).

Harris is seen as better able to handle abortion by 21 points. She also gets the nod on helping the middle class (by 8 points), protecting Democracy (+7), and fighting for people like you (+5).

Neither has a clear edge in bringing needed change (Harris +3)

Harris enjoys better favorable ratings than the former president -- 48% favorable vs. 51% unfavorable for a 3-point net negative rating. Trump is underwater by 9 points (45% vs. 54%). It plays out the same way among the vice-presidential candidates: Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s rating is even (44% vs. 44%) while Ohio Sen. JD Vance is in negative territory by 13 points (39% vs. 52%).

Biden’s favorable rating is underwater by 16 points (42% vs. 58%).

In the Pennsylvania Senate race, Democratic candidate Bob Casey has a 9-point lead over Republican challenger David McCormick (53% to 44% among both registered and likely voters). McCormick has narrowed the gap by 4 points since July when he was down by 13 (55-42%).

The reversal can mostly be attributed to a 13-point shift among men and a decrease in support for Casey among independents. In July, men supported Casey by 6 points while today they back McCormick by 7 points, while independents supported Casey by 18 points in the summer and it’s a 5-point spread now.

Some 10% of Casey backers split their ticket and back Trump in the presidential race while just 4% of McCormick supporters go for Harris.

A few more things…

-- Gov. Josh Shapiro is popular, as 62% approve of the job he’s doing while a third disapprove (36%). Most Democrats (92%) and over half of independents (53%) approve of him while two-thirds of Republicans (65%) disapprove.

-- A majority of Pennsylvanians favor the use of fracking for oil and gas production, including 8 in 10 Republicans, 6 in 10 independents, and 4 in 10 Democrats.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

CLICK HERE FOR TOPLINE AND CROSSTABS

Conducted September 20-24, 2024, under the joint direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News Poll includes interviews with a sample of 1,021 Pennsylvania registered voters randomly selected from a statewide voter file. Results based on the registered voter sample have a margin of sampling error of ±3 percentage points and for the subsample of 775 likely voters it is ±3.5 percentage points.
Fox News Poll: Harris is ahead of Trump by 3 points in Georgia

Georgians trust Harris over Trump on helping the middle class by 7 points

In a head-to-head matchup, Vice President Kamala Harris tops former President Trump by 3 percentage points in a Fox News survey of Georgia voters.

Harris receives 51% support to Trump’s 48% among both registered and likely voters. While her advantage may be narrow (inside the margin of error), it is steady. Last month, she was up 50%-48% among registered voters.

Roughly 1 in 10 of each candidate’s supporters say they may change their mind.

More Georgians see Harris as the candidate who will help the middle class and protect democracy by a 3-point margin on each. She is also seen as the candidate more likely to fight "for people like you" by 6 points. Harris’ largest lead is on handling the issue of abortion, where she is favored by 18 points.

Trump’s largest lead is on handling immigration (+15 points).

HARRIS-TRUMP SHOWDOWN: THE EDGE IS CLEAR ON THIS KEY ISSUE

The two candidates are rated more closely on bringing needed change (Harris by 4 points), making the country safe (Trump +3), and handling the economy (Trump +4). His advantage on the economy today is half what it was last month.

Large majorities of Black voters trust Harris over Trump on each issue and trait, with as many as 85% saying she will "fight for people like you."

Among independents, 6 in 10 see Harris as helping the middle class, while nearly as many say Trump is better able to handle the economy.

"Georgia is looking like a true battleground with a slight lean toward Harris," says Democratic pollster Chris Anderson, who conducts Fox News polls with Republican Daron Shaw. "More voters see her fighting for them and standing up for the middle class, and she has almost neutralized Trump’s advantage on the economy."

Party loyalty is also a factor. By a 4-percentage point margin, more Democrats back Harris than Republicans back Trump. One in five non-MAGA Republicans supports Harris.

Independents favor Harris over Trump by 13 points.

Trump won Georgia by 4 percentage points in 2016, but Biden took the state in 2020 by less than half a point.

By a wide 30-point margin, Georgia voters like the job Gov. Brian Kemp is doing: 64% approve vs. 34% disapprove (August 2024).

"The pathway for Trump is pretty obvious," says Shaw. "He has to make nice with Gov. Kemp and non-MAGA Republicans — and if he does that, he probably has the edge."

Harris gets her best numbers from Black voters, urban voters, those under age 30 and women.

Majorities of Whites without a college degree, rural voters, men and voters ages 65 and over support Trump.

New voters split 50%-50% (those who haven’t voted in the four most recent general elections).

Married voters go for Trump by 15 points, while those who are unmarried favor Harris by 21.

Most voters who say they will cast their ballot early prefer Harris, while Trump is favored among those planning to vote on Election Day.

FOX NEWS POLL: VOTERS CITE HIGH PRICES AS BIGGEST MOTIVATOR TO VOTE

Meanwhile, Harris is generally more popular than Trump. By a 3-point margin, the vice president receives net positive ratings, as 51% have a favorable view of her and 48% unfavorable. Trump’s ratings are net negative by 6 points (47% vs. 53%).

The same goes for the vice-presidential candidates. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is in positive territory by 1 point (43%-42%), while Ohio Sen. JD Vance is underwater by 3 (43%-46%).

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

All do better than President Biden, whose personal favorability ratings are negative by 16 points (42%-58%).

CLICK HERE FOR TOPLINE AND CROSSTABS

Conducted Sept. 20-24, under the joint direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News Poll includes interviews with a sample of 1,006 Georgia registered voters randomly selected from a statewide voter file.
