Manhattan DA's office says Luigi Mangione defense spread false claims about murder trial media plan

Manhattan prosecutors asked a judge Monday to correct what they called false claims by Luigi Mangione's defense team about media access to his upcoming murder trial and remind the attorneys of their ethical obligations.

The filing came days after Mangione's lawyers argued the court's plan for public and media access violates his constitutional right to a public trial and alleged the Manhattan District Attorney's Office was involved in deciding which reporters would be allowed to cover the proceedings.

Prosecutors denied the allegation, saying the office "had no role" in developing the New York State Office of Court Administration's media access plan or selecting journalists to cover the trial.

"The defense's baseless accusation thus appears to be nothing more than an attempt to spread misinformation about this case and delegitimize the proceedings," Senior Trial Counsel Joel J. Seidemann wrote in a letter to Judge Gregory Carro.

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office asked Carro to remind Mangione's attorneys of their ethical obligations not to knowingly make false statements to a court or third parties, citing New York's Rules of Professional Conduct.

In Friday's filing, defense attorneys Karen Friedman Agnifilo, Marc Agnifilo and Jacob Kaplan argued the court's media access restrictions amount to a partial closure of the proceedings in violation of the First, Sixth and Fourteenth Amendments.

The attorneys objected to the lack of an overflow courtroom, limits on jury selection coverage and what they described as a process allowing only a select group of reporters to attend the trial.

They also claimed they were told only 68 journalists would receive general access to the proceedings and that the selection process had effectively been outsourced to a private attorney representing several legacy media organizations.

Mangione's attorneys asked the court to hold a public hearing, identify the journalists selected to cover jury selection and the broader trial, explain how those reporters were chosen and detail efforts to secure an overflow courtroom.

Prosecutors responded Monday that the defense had wrongly implicated the district attorney's office in decisions made by the Office of Court Administration.

"The District Attorney's Office had no role in developing the Office of Court Administration's media access plan for this trial, and will have no role in selecting which news reporters attend the trial, as defense counsel surely knows from her long prior association with this office," Seidemann wrote in the filing.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Friedman Agnifilo and Mangione's spokesperson for comment on the matter.

Mangione is charged in New York state court with murder and terrorism-related offenses in the Dec. 4, 2024, fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel. He has pleaded not guilty.

A routine Instacart delivery turned into every parent's nightmare after a Georgia mother's car was stolen with her 2-year-old daughter still inside, as newly released 911 audio and police body camera video capture the frantic rescue.

"Someone just stole my car and it has my 2-year-old daughter in it," the distraught mother tells an Atlanta 911 dispatcher in audio released by police.

When the dispatcher asks whether the child is inside the vehicle, the mother replies, "Yes, my 2-year-old daughter was in the backseat. I was dropping off an Instacart order and I came back outside and my car is gone. My daughter was inside."

Moments later, she cries out again, "My daughter was inside!"

The ordeal unfolded around 4:36 p.m. on July 30, according to the Atlanta Police Department.

Police said the vehicle had been left running with the toddler inside while her mother delivered an Instacart order.

LICENSE PLATE CAMERAS ARE TRACKING DRIVERS EVERYWHERE

Officers with the department's Auto Crimes Enforcement Unit immediately began searching for the vehicle and used the city's license plate readers to locate the car, the suspect and the child in under 15 minutes, according to police.

Body camera video released by the department shows officers surrounding the stolen vehicle and ordering the driver to raise his hands and get out.

"Hands up! Hands up!" an officer shouts.

"Hands on the window now," another officer orders. "What you're gonna do is you're going to get out and face away from me, you understand me? Get out the car, slow. Put your hands behind your back."

The video shows officers taking the suspect into custody as the toddler cries nearby and her mother works to calm her.

"It's okay, baby. It's okay, baby," the mother can be heard saying.

Moments later, an officer radios, "The child is okay. The child's okay."

Police identified the suspect as 21-year-old Saleem Martin.

Martin was charged with kidnapping, theft by taking, simple battery, entering an automobile, cruelty to children and criminal attempt to commit a felony, according to police.

Authorities said the toddler was unharmed and reunited with her parents.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by Atlanta NBC affiliate 11Alive, the child's mother later noticed that the bottom of her daughter's dress was unbuttoned.

The warrant alleges the toddler told her mother "the man did it," referring to the man who had been driving the car.

Martin allegedly had both hands on the child's torso when officers found him and was trying to duck down and hide between the seats, according to the warrant cited by the outlet.

The Atlanta Police Department's Special Victims Unit was brought into the investigation.

Martin allegedly told investigators he had been touching the child because he was trying to calm her down, according to 11Alive.

He also allegedly claimed he jumped into the vehicle because he was trying to "get back to New Jersey" and did not realize the toddler was in the backseat until after he drove away.

According to the arrest warrant, Martin also allegedly told investigators he realized there was an iPad inside the vehicle and discarded it because he believed it could be used to track him.

No matter where his assistant coaches went while at Alabama, former coach Nick Saban always had a watchful eye on his staff members who would sneak out of the office for a round of golf.

In Tuscaloosa, there were plenty of interesting stories to come out regarding Saban assistants finding time to get out of the office in the offseason.

College football is finally back after months of NCAA lawsuits, NIL drama and congressional fights

Whether it was scrambling to get a round of basketball in during their 'free time' or trying to decipher which golf course within driving range of Alabama's campus that Nick Saban was heading to for a round was all part of the game.

For Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding, there was a method to their madness, and it involved getting a tip from whomever Saban was golfing with that day.

Whichever course Saban went to, the assistants would head to the other one in town. That worked, until the now Rebels coach had a breakdown in communication on where their boss was actually at.

"There are two courses in Tuscaloosa. You got Indian Hills and you got North River," Pete Golding explained. "I was told that coach Saban was playing North River. So, I got our group together and said 'hey, let's go to to Indian Hills' during the day at like 2 o'clock. Sometimes in the spring after lunch, coach (Saban) would disappear. You wouldn’t know, he didn’t tell ya.

"Well, we're on 10, which is a Par-3 over the water and sixteen is coming back in this direction. We got Stoops, Sarkisian and Freddie Roach. So, Sark is about to tee-off and we look down on sixteen green, and there's coach Saban with the Pro at Indian Hills and two of his buddies."

Saban knows, so maybe it's time to head back to the office? Nope

Ok, well right then Golding had to know the jig was up.

The Alabama assistant coach and his co-workers should have probably called it a day. But, given that they were already on the course, and their boss was down the fairway on another hole, the foursome decided to risk it.

Unfortunately, this would turn out to be one of the craziest experiences for the assistant coaches, thanks to a shot from now Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian.

"We're deciding should we hit or not, and Sark is like we'll just be quiet and hit," Golding recalled. "He hits like 145 or whatever, with an eight-iron. He hits it, then it hits like one time and goes in the hole. A hole-in-one. It's like you're watching a movie in mute. Nobody wants to say anything, because we can't let Saban know.

"The pro over there sees it and asks 'who hit that'. We bee-lined straight for the carts, like nobody else even hits and we're down there hiding in the woods or whatever."

Yes, Sarkisian's boss found out pretty quick about the hole-in-one

In case you were wondering, it did not take long for coach Nick Saban to find out about the insane hole-in-one from his assistant coach, Steve Sarkisian. If you've never been to Tuscaloosa, I promise you that word travels fast, especially on the golf course.

"We hear about it the next day. He ain't gonna sit around and come over there and make it awkward."

Imagine that. Hitting a fantastic shot, knowing that the strictest coach in college football is standing just over on the next green, and you cannot celebrate the shot.

This actually makes the entire afternoon that much better, at least in my eyes.

Nick Saban is known for being a competitor on the course, so figuring out that Steve Sarkisian drained a hole-in-one while the staff was supposed to be back at the office breaking down film during the spring undoubtedly had the former Alabama coach looking for answers.

And, it wouldn’t take him long to find out who hit the shot.

I think we've all heard the stories of what it was like working for Nick Saban as an assistant coach at any one of his stops as a head coach.

Jurors in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial retraced her ex-husband’s route Friday before walking through the Massachusetts home where the couple’s three children were killed, a court-supervised visit a retired Massachusetts judge said could help the panel understand the timeline and setting at the center of the case.

The move was reminiscent of another high-profile Massachusetts murder trial that recently captured headlines, when Karen Read was acquitted of the top charge during her 2025 retrial.

In Clancy's case, the 18-member jury panel was driven past ThreeV restaurant in Plymouth and the CVS pharmacy in Kingston that Patrick Clancy visited on Jan. 24, 2023. Jurors were then escorted in groups of six through the family’s former home in Duxbury during a roughly 40-minute visit.

They also saw the basement where Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, were found, as well as the yard beneath the second-story window where Lindsay Clancy was discovered seriously injured after attempting suicide. The fall left the woman paralyzed and in a wheelchair.

Jack Lu, who served 16 years as a Massachusetts Superior Court judge and five years as a Boston Municipal Court judge, said that, in his experience, a view is expected in a Massachusetts homicide trial, particularly a case involving multiple deaths.

"The reality is, on a homicide case, they’re always, always going to do a view," Lu, now a Boston College law professor, told Fox News Digital.

Lu said the clearest benefit may be helping jurors assess how long Patrick was away from the home and understand the locations discussed throughout testimony.

Still, Lu cautioned against assuming the view necessarily favored either side or would become decisive.

"The view is perhaps not obviously crucial to this case," he said. "It gives them context."

A similar procedure was used during Read’s 2025 retrial in Massachusetts, where she was charged with killing her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe.

Jurors were bussed to 34 Fairview Road in Canton, where O’Keefe was found, and viewed the property and Read’s Lexus. Prosecutors and defense attorneys directed jurors’ attention to different details from the case.

In Clancy's case, prosecutors allege she intentionally sent Patrick on the errands to get him out of the house before strangling the children.

Her attorneys do not dispute that she killed her children but argue she lacked criminal responsibility because she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis.

After returning to Plymouth Superior Court on Friday, jurors heard emotional testimony from emergency room doctors who treated Dawson and Callan.

Dr. Mark Tenerowicz testified that hospital staff tried for about 40 minutes to revive Dawson, who arrived without a pulse and was not breathing. He was pronounced dead at about 7:28 p.m.

Dr. Benjamin Kaufman said medical workers restored Callan’s pulse, but the infant remained unable to breathe independently.

"At no point did he exhibit any brain function," Kaufman testified.

During testimony, Clancy covered her face and appeared to sob and shake during the doctors’ testimony. Lu described the emotional weight of the proceedings as "exceptional," even among heavily publicized trials.

"Even among high-profile cases, the emotionalism of this case is extraordinary," he said, adding that Massachusetts judges are trained to privately address jurors after a verdict about processing the emotional toll of what they went through.

Michigan's Democratic AG refuses to attend upcoming convention over harassment concerns

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel told Jewish leaders and community members during a roundtable last week that she has no plans to attend the Michigan Democratic Party’s nominating convention next month out of concern for her safety.

"I feel like my presence isn’t going to be welcome," Nessel said, according to the Michigan Advance. "I don’t want to get chased around. I don’t want to get harassed. I don’t want to get yelled and screamed at. I don’t want to get booed off the stage, irrespective of what I’m saying. And I believe that if I go, that is what will happen because it’s been happening to me."

Nessel, the first Jewish person to be elected Michigan's attorney general, claimed that party leadership has neglected her concerns over the rise of antisemitism within the Democratic Party despite reporting that she was harassed by some members.

Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus chair Jessica Alexander told Fox News Digital that she respected Nessel's decision and, though she does not believe that the Democratic Party itself is antisemitic, acknowledged a rise in "anti-Jewish" attitudes among dissenters.

"At this point, why should she put herself in a circumstance that feels untenable and reactionary? Alexander, who is a professor at Eastern Michigan University, added that as someone not "open to immense scrutiny" like an elected official, she is planning on attending the convention, expecting a "large turnout" for her caucus.

Nessel said she could say as a Democrat that "some things have changed," according to the Advance, and that society had to exist where "intelligent discourse and debate" could occur without threats.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Michigan Democratic Party for comment.

Nessel revealed in 2023 that she was the target of a "heavily armed defendant" who was allegedly plotting attacks against Jewish elected officials in the wake of Israel's war in Gaza.

She also clashed with progressive "Squad" member Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., after bringing charges against anti-Israel protesters at the University of Michigan.

"At the Democratic convention, an attendee yelled an antisemitic slur at my husband, who is Jewish and was walking with my 5-year-old daughter. That is terrifying," McMorrow said.

Does Maggie speak for all Dodgers fans today? Are you embarrassed by your team?

Look, I'm not Dodger fan. I'm actually a Red Sox fan, which has been just incredible over the past six weeks. 28-5 since June 26! Just amazing.

Anyway, I don't blame the Dodgers. Some folks are furious with them today. Everyone is convinced they're ruining baseball and pushing us towards a lockout this winter.

That may be the case, but the Skubal trade has nothing to do with it. Literally any team in baseball could A) afford to have taken on Skubal's $9 million salary for the rest of this year, and B) put together a package to match what the Dodgers gave up ...

... mainly because it was a pretty crappy package.

So, why were the Dodgers the only team to step up to the plate? Or, better yet, why did the Tigers jump at that trade? I have no clue, but I do have a conspiracy theory.

The rabbit hole in me thinks the rest of the owners allowed the Dodgers to make this trade because they want the public on their side during these upcoming negotiations. They were thinking long term.

These lockouts are always about perception. It dictates everything, and it's usually on the players' side.

This looming lockout — and there will 100% be a lockout — could be the first time in history where the fans side with the owners.

Regardless, don't blame the Dodgers for picking up the phone and making the call. They gave up peanuts for a two-time Cy Young award winner. Every other team could've done it, and they chose not to.

At least the LA faithful packed the stadium yesterday to show their appreciation!

Lordy. Look at that stadium! It was half-empty for a Sunday afternoon game against the Red Sox! Boots on the ground tell me that a bunch of fans didn't show up because it was "hot" and "sunny."

Give me a break. Hilarious.

Now, peeling back the curtain a bit here, I'd normally go into a long diatribe breaking this fight down — punch by punch. I'd have some fun with it.

BUT, some digging showed me that this Danry Vasquez is an absolute scumbag and has done some really disgusting things in the past. Yes, there is video. Yes, it involved his girlfriend. No, I will not be showing it here.

Mike Golic! Wow. What a throwback. I hadn't heard Golic on ESPN in a decade. Lordy, do I miss those days.

I can vividly remember waking up every day at the crack of dawn and going to school in the old 1997 jeep wrangler with the top down and listening to a static "Mike & Mike" on AM radio. It was a staple in our car for years. Then we'd get Cowherd on the drive home.

Perhaps this is the latest sign that ESPN is moving back to that era? I hope so, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Phil Collins' brush with death left his children preparing for the unthinkable

Phil Collins' biggest heartbreak didn't happen onstage.

The music icon revealed the emotional goodbye he shared with his children in 2024 while facing life-threatening health struggles and alcoholism, unsure if he would make it home. Collins' manager called up the singer's five children — Lily, Joely, Simon, Nicolas and Matthew — while he lay unconscious in a Swiss hospital.

"Because there were some decisions to be made about ‘Do we keep Phil on life support?’ kind of thing," he told The Sunday Times.

"My kidneys were packing up, my organs were just seizing up," Collins explained. "People were coming to say goodbye."

"But I don’t remember them coming," he admitted. "I didn’t have no idea this was going on. They were all worried that they wouldn’t see me again. It could all have gone so terribly wrong."

Surviving the ordeal prompted Collins to make a life-changing decision about his drinking.

"I was very lucky to have come out of that," Collins told the publication, adding, "Needless to say, I haven’t had a drink since."

Months later, Collins spent time reconnecting with his kids after surviving the frightening brush with death. Lily "was sitting beside me in tears, saying, ‘I never thought I’d get these moments,'" he recalled.

"We had an incredible time," he added. "I can’t overemphasize how fantastic it was."

His health issues didn't disappear. Collins revealed it's an "ongoing thing" during an appearance on the BBC podcast "Eras" earlier this year.

"I have a 24-hour, live-in nurse to make sure I take my medication as I should do," he explained. "I’ve had challenges with my knee. I had everything that could go wrong with me, did go wrong with me."

Collins has long been candid about the personal battles that accompanied his declining health, including his yearslong struggle with alcoholism.

He built a Hall of Fame career as both the drummer and later lead singer of Genesis before becoming a global solo superstar in the 1980s.

As a solo artist, he sold more than 100 million records worldwide with hits including "In the Air Tonight," "Against All Odds," "Sussudio," "One More Night" and "Another Day in Paradise."

Collins wrote about his struggle with alcoholism in his 2016 autobiography, "Not Dead Yet."

"Night after night I find myself lying on the bed, staring out of a skylight at grey Swiss skies, rueing my life," he wrote, according to People. "I’m all alone, save for my good friends Johnnie Walker and Grey Goose. ‘You’ve got everything,’ I think, ‘but you’ve really got f--k all.'"

Collins didn't shy away from describing how quickly his life unraveled after retirement.

"It took me until the age of 55 to become an alcoholic," he wrote. "I got through the heady Sixties, the trippy Seventies, the imperial Eighties, the busy Nineties. I was retired, content – then I fell. Because suddenly, I had too much time on my hands."

"The huge hole, the void, I had to fill somehow," Collins added. "I filled it with booze. And it nearly killed me."

Renewed patriotism and career opportunities fuel Army's biggest recruiting surge in years

The U.S. Army has already reached its fiscal year 2026 active-duty recruiting goal months ahead of schedule, marking a dramatic turnaround after years of falling short as military leaders point to renewed patriotism, career opportunities and a growing sense of purpose among young Americans choosing to serve.

Fox News was granted exclusive access inside Fort Hood, one of the Army’s largest installations, where commanders and soldiers offered a firsthand look at what they say is driving the recruiting resurgence.

Just a few years ago, the Army was struggling to meet its recruiting goals. After hitting a low in fiscal year 2022, recruiting has climbed every year since, rising nearly 38% overall, with the biggest jump coming in fiscal year 2025. This fiscal year, the Army has already met its active-duty recruiting goal with more than 61,500 future soldiers signing on for service.

The recruiting surge has been accompanied by another encouraging trend for Army leaders: retention goals are also being exceeded, with more soldiers choosing to continue their military careers.

Among them is infantryman Guadalupe Campos, who joined the Army when he was 18 years old and recently extended his service nearly six years later.

"I wanted to do my due diligence and service to my country," Campos told Fox News.

For Campos, serving in uniform has reinforced both his patriotism and the bonds formed alongside fellow soldiers.

Campos said the Army brought together people from every walk of life, united by one common mission.

"A lot of the guys that I worked with, they come from a lot of parts of life, whether it’s good or bad. Jade Root, Army Recruiting battalion commander, said the recent turnaround reflects a broader desire among young Americans to serve.

"Locally we have seen a strong sense of young men and women who want to serve a purpose much higher than themselves. They understand the opportunities that the Army provides to acquire critical skills and leadership skills that will last them a lifetime," Root told Fox News.

Root also believes the recruiting numbers reflect something larger.

"I think it shows a strong signal that patriotism is alive and well," Rood said. "We have a high propensity of people that want to serve, but most importantly that our Army is growing."

Army leaders say today’s recruits are motivated by a combination of patriotism, benefits and a sense of purpose.

The Army says today’s typical recruit is about 23 years old, and recruiters are spending more time in high schools, on college campuses and in local communities to connect with potential future soldiers.

"I always ask our recruiters, remember they are not just a number, this is someone’s son or daughter," Root said.

Today’s Army also extends far beyond traditional combat roles, offering more than 200 career fields, ranging from medics and helicopter mechanics to cybersecurity, engineering, military intelligence and animal care.

Army Animal Care Specialist Grizel Cornejo said many prospective recruits are surprised by the range of career opportunities available while serving.

Chaos broke out in the fourth inning of Sunday night's Liga Mexicana de Béisbol, aka Mexican Baseball League, game between the Toros de Tijuana and the Acereros de Monclova.

A runner ended up in the pickle after trying to score on a ground ball to third that wasn't fielded cleanly. He didn’t end up scoring and was tagged out on the play by the third baseman.

The runner, Tijuana's Danry Vasquez, a noted scumbag with a violent past who spent time in a couple of Major League Baseball organizations, responded to being tagged out on the play by throwing punches.

By noted scumbag, I mean he was arrested and charged with domestic violence for an assault on his then-girlfriend in the stairwell of Whataburger Field that resulted in the Houston Astros releasing him.

Back to this insane play. The tag appeared to be of the normal everyday variety. Certainly nothing worthy of the response it was met with.

After hitting Monclova third baseman Rodolfo Amador in the back, Vasquez dropped him with a right hand to the face. Both benches cleared, and all hell broke loose.

Before the action, which started on the third baseline, moved towards the mound, Vasquez can be seen kicking Amador while he was still down on the ground.

Here's the wild brawl as it unfolded, which World Baseball reports, has resulted in Vasquez being "suspended indefinitely by the LMB."

The outlet also reported that Vasquez and Toros pitcher Adonis Medina were both ejected from the game, as were Monclova first baseman Ryan Hernandez and second baseman Jecksson Flores.

It was also reported on social media by Mexican journalist Rosa Lilia Torres that Hernandez, who can be seen knocking Vasquez to the ground with what appears to be a clothesline, left the ballpark in an ambulance.

He reportedly suffered a broken arm during the brawl.

As for Danry Vasquez, he doesn’t come across as the kind of guy you want to hang with. I can't imagine that he's worth a roster spot. Unless you're really in need of someone who just might throw punches for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

Bryan Kohberger gets new attorney appointed after he asks court for post-conviction relief in Idaho murders

Bryan Kohberger has been appointed a new attorney to represent him in his petition for post-conviction relief — an attempt to withdraw his guilty plea that he filed on his own roughly a year after admitting to the murders of four University of Idaho students who were stabbed to death in November 2022.

Kohberger, 30, is now being represented by attorney Greg Rauch, of Moscow, Idaho.

Rauch told Fox News Digital he hasn't read the petition, the case file or spoken to Kohberger yet. He was just appointed Monday morning and said he expects to speak with Kohberger over the phone in the near future and then visit him in prison to talk face-to-face.

"Today, my goal is to set up phone contact with him," Rauch said. "I gotta read the case file...I gotta check out the police reports. I gotta talk to him."

Kohberger is being held in the J-Block unit of the Idaho Maximum Security Institution in Kuna, about 300 miles south of where the crimes took place in Moscow, near the University of Idaho campus.

Kohberger, in a handwritten petition on July 27, 2026, claimed that he was "convinced to falsely confess," by his high-profile defense team of Anne Taylor, Elisa Massoth and Bicka Barlow. He alleged that they didn't tell him about "exculpatory discovery" — hair found at the scene that was not tested for DNA. It was excluded as Kohberger's by a physical analysis.

Eagles' Nolan Smith took apology for his 136 MPH driving arrest to team ownership and now makes it public

Nolan Smith's brush with the law this offseason led the Philadelphia Eagles linebacker on something of an apology tour but while he's in the clear with the team, his status under the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy remains unclear.

Smith was arrested in May after he was stopped by the Twiggs County Sheriff's Office on charges of for allegedly driving his 2026 Lamborghini at 136 MPH in a 70-MPH stretch of Interstate 16 in Twiggs County, Georgia.

(For the record, there is no stretch of I-16 that allows speeds anywhere close to 136 MPH because it has never been mistaken for a non-regulated portion of the Autobahn in Germany.)

Anyway, the Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook the night of the incident posted on Facebook that "a traffic stop was initiated, and the vehicle pulled over without incident. The driver chose to follow deputies back to the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office, where citations were issued, bond was posted, and the driver was released. No drama. No injuries. Just a very fast car learning a very expensive lesson."

Smith was cited for speeding and reckless driving.

The Eagles didn't love this and Smith said he was sorry.

He took that apology public on Monday when he spoke of the incident for the first time.

"I apologized to the organization and, um, I'll make that apology now, you know?" Smith told reporters on Monday. "I represent the Eagles no matter where I go. You know, Georgia, Florida. It doesn't matter.

"And that's one of the ones that I own up and I apologize for. And it's just like that we make mistakes and it can't happen again, and that's unacceptable."

Smith says he took his apology as high as he possibly could, including club executive vice president and general manager Howie Roseman and even club Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Lurie.

"I did apologize to Howie, I did apologize to Mr. Lurie," Smith said. "I can't let my teammates down like that. They hold me to a different accountability on and off the field."

The Eagles obviously accepted Smith's apology as he remains on the roster, is expected to get significant snaps from his linebacker spot, and is tied contractually to the team through the 2027 season.

Smith suggested there was no disciplinary action from the team.

"Nothing came from it," he said.

But there's the matter of the NFL. An arrest typically initiates an NFL investigation related to its Personal Conduct Policy.

Netflix replaces fan-favorite football host with unpopular, far-left personality

Netflix has replaced Kay Adams with former ESPN host Elle Duncan as its lead NFL studio host for the upcoming season.

On Monday, the streamer announced its studio team for the Week 1 broadcast on Sept. 10, when it will exclusively stream the 49ers vs. Rams from Melbourne, Australia. Duncan will host alongside desk analysts Michael Irvin, Nick Foles, and Clay Matthews.

While Netflix signed Duncan earlier this year to be the face of its sports division, there was at least some question about whether she'd also take over NFL hosting responsibilities, a role Adams held the past two seasons.

The decision is also questionable.

Kay Adams is a fan favorite and one of the best NFL hosts in the industry. If a network with NFL rights were building for the future, it'd likely rank Adams second only to ESPN's Laura Rutledge as its ideal lead host.

By contrast, Duncan is a toxic figure. She is best known at ESPN for reportedly convincing executives that Sage Steele was "not black enough" to participate in a social justice special, protesting Florida's "Don't Say Gay" law live on ESPN, and encouraging fathers to support their daughters' abortions from the SportsCenter set.

USA TODAY REPORTER APOLOGIZES FOR INVOKING EMMETT TILL IN COLUMN ABOUT CAITLIN CLARK AFTER UPSETTING THE WOKE

Last week, Duncan blamed Caitlin Clark and her fans for the ongoing turmoil surrounding the WNBA, just days after USA Today shamefully suggested Clark's on-court antics could lead to the lynching of Black people.

Duncan then criticized Clark for not telling fans not to "use her name" to spread hate, despite Clark doing exactly that.

"People should not be using my name to push those agendas. It's disappointing. It's not acceptable," Clark said in 2024. "Treating every single woman in this league with the same amount of respect, I think, it's just a basic human thing that everybody should do."

Notice Duncan hasn't called on Angel Reese to condemn those using her name to justify similar bigotry, namely the racially charged attacks directed at Clark and her fans.

Duncan is a bad-faith actress. She is dishonest. And her presence on Netflix inevitably politicizes the broadcast.

Netflix has already faced deserved criticism for its sports coverage, often turning live events into infomercials for its entertainment division.

ELLE DUNCAN BLAMES CAITLIN CLARK, HER FANS FOR MEDIA SMEAR CAMPAIGN WHILE IGNORING FACTS

Longtime sports radio host Dan Patrick criticized the company's approach during the Home Run Derby last month.

"I'd like to think I'm at least socially aware of sporting events, but I had no idea," Patrick said. "And then all of a sudden, it's like Netflix, and then you had Will Ferrell show up, you had Bonds and Pujols, and I'm like, OK. They're trying. Netflix is trying, trying different things. Now, sometimes you can try too hard. Sometimes you can try to dress something up, and you really don't need to."

Adams, at least, kept the focus on football, a sport she has covered for years. Duncan has little connection to the leagues Netflix carries, namely the NFL and MLB.

Fans will already be annoyed that they need yet another streaming service to watch Week 1 of the NFL season. Wait until they finally log in and hear Duncan screeching, probably about the fact that the Rams-49ers game features two White quarterbacks and head coaches.

Yes, she is one of those.

Tourist hot spot slapped with US travel warning renewal due to crime and terror

Americans traveling to Belgium are facing a renewed travel warning from the U.S. State Department after officials cited concerns about crime, terrorism and civil unrest.

The department recently increased Belgium's advisory to Level 2, "Exercise Increased Caution" — urging travelers to remain alert while visiting the European country.

Known for its medieval cities, historic landmarks, chocolate and beer, Belgium attracts millions of visitors from around the world each year.

The updated advisory warns that petty crime is common, especially in popular tourist areas.

"Most crimes against foreigners are crimes of opportunity, like purse snatching and pickpocketing," the State Department said in its advisory.

Beyond petty crime, the department warned that Belgium remains at risk for terrorist attacks and related activity.

Officials also cautioned that large, generally peaceful demonstrations related to the local political situation can occur and may disrupt transportation and other essential services.

The U.S. Embassy notes that marijuana and other drugs remain illegal in Belgium and warns that bringing drugs into, through or out of the country can result in serious criminal penalties.

The embassy also reminds travelers to keep a close watch on backpacks and small bags, particularly on trains and at major train stations, where thefts can occur.

Dem senator accuses Pentagon of murder with boat strikes targeting drug traffickers

Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., in a letter to President Donald Trump suggested that an examination of the evidence indicates that the administration's boat strikes against alleged drug traffickers have killed people who were not participating in narcotrafficking.

"They are murder victims," the lawmaker asserted in the Aug. 3 letter.

White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital, "On the campaign trail, President Trump promised to take on the cartels – and he has taken unprecedented action to stop the scourge of narcoterrorism that has resulted in the needless deaths of innocent Americans. All of these decisive strikes have been against designated narcoterrorists bringing deadly poison to our shores, and the President will continue to use every element of American power to stop drugs from flooding into our country and to bring those responsible to justice."

The U.S. military has conducted dozens of deadly strikes against vessels of alleged "narco-terrorists."

"In late July 2025, you directed the Department of Defense to conduct kinetic operations to combat narcotrafficking operations in the Americas. You selected numerous organizations for targeting. That target list is classified so I cannot reveal it. Importantly, the classification of the list means that those you have asked the Department of Defense to target are entirely unaware that they are marked for execution," Kaine wrote in the letter.

"In September 2025, the United States launched boat strikes in international waters in the Americas pursuant to your directive. A Department of Justice Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) opinion issued in September 2025 provided legal support for such operations so long as they complied with specific factual conditions. GOP lawmaker's gifts, 'effusive affection' toward young staffers detailed in explosive ethics report

A House GOP lawmaker is accused of sexually harassing two "young female staffers" in his office in an explosive report that details lavish gifts, trips, and even reciting a poem for one of the aides in an incident that made others in his office uncomfortable.

The House Ethics Committee is recommending a censure for Rep. Chuck Edwards, R-N.C., after an extensive probe found that he violated the House of Representatives' code of conduct with repeated incidents targeting the two staffers.

"Specifically, the Committee found that Representative Edwards engaged in persistent unprofessional and inappropriate conduct towards two young female staffers. While Representative Edwards denied that any of his conduct was intended as a sexual or romantic advance, his pattern of behavior would lead a reasonable observer to interpret it as such, including providing the young women with lavish and recurrent gifts, making comments regarding their appearance and dress, inviting them to intimate dinners and vacations, sending notes regarding his effusive affection, and inviting them to other activities as a way to spend time together," the report said.

The committee also said Edwards sought to cooperate with the panel, but that some messages deemed relevant to the probe were "omitted and/or seemingly deleted from his phone."

"An example of Representative Edwards’ unprofessional conduct was commenting on the two women’s appearance in the congressional office, telling them when they looked 'pretty' or 'breathtaking,' and even remarking on one staffer’s weight," the report said.

Edwards told the committee he only commented on staffers' clothing and said "it’s almost an insult if you don’t make some comment about [one another’s clothing]," according to the report.

While sexual harassment allegations are detailed regarding both staffers, the report goes into significant detail about Edwards' alleged entreaties to the aide referred to as "Staffer 2."

RESIGNATION IS THE NEW ESCAPE HATCH AS LAWMAKERS FACE EXPULSION

That includes that Edwards "wrote poems for Staffer 2, including one that he read at her going away party in the congressional office accompanied by a slideshow, during which he cried."

"Several staffers present testified that they felt uncomfortable, and Representative Edwards acknowledged in his own testimony that he could tell the staff felt uncomfortable," the report said.

Edwards also "arranged for a singer to go to Staffer 2’s birthday party to sing Ed Sheeran’s Hills of Aberfeldy and say that it was ‘from a special someone,’" according to the findings.

That staffer confided in a friend after the ordeal that it left her "scared lowkey," the report said.

The congressman also went to her home "to perform chores like yard work, pick her up and drop her off for events and activities with his driver."

He also missed House votes to help Staffer 2 decorate her Christmas tree, according to the report.

The findings also state he "Took Staffer 2 to the casino, bought her drinks and paid for her to gamble. Staffer 2 texted Representative Edwards after one such outing to thank him for a fun night."

He printed that text message on paper and drew a heart next to it, the report said, and handwrote, "Perhaps my proudest personal moment!"

Edwards is also accused of booking and paying for spa treatments for that staffer and sending both staffers "personal texts late in the evening."

Later, when "Staffer 2" told Edwards that she received another job offer, Edwards told her he cried and then proceeded to "repeatedly" ask her to dinner for the next several days, the report said.

She told the congressman that it was not "a great idea" after a friend asked her about rumors of an affair between Edwards and a staffer, to which the report said Edwards responded, "It’s disappointing to feel something that used to be easy has gotten complicated. Whether we were talking about cat poop, crime plots, or thoughts more meaningful—I’ve always valued the time we shared, and the money we won :) and I thought you might too. I didn’t expect outside chatter to change that. Still, I understand. You get to set the boundaries, and I get to respect them. If you ever feel easy again, I hope you’ll give me the signal."

Edwards told the committee that he "suppose[d]" his response could seem intended to make someone feel guilty, but that was not his intent.

"That was my way of saying – I ain’t asking again because part of harassment is, when an interaction is not wanted and repetitive, and I was just trying to set the groundwork for ‘I’m going [] to respect that," he apparently told the committee.

Edwards also said the text showed he allowed those staffers to set boundaries on what they were comfortable with, but the committee noted it "received evidence that Staffer 1 and Staffer 2 did not always feel free to reject Representative Edwards’ attentions without fear of professional consequences."

With "Staffer 1," Edwards is also accused of leaving an event early and telling her it was because she "brought a date," but he told the committee "that he told Staffer 1 that he did not want to be ‘in the way or something to that effect.’"

The House Ethics Committee is chaired by Edwards' fellow Republican Rep. Michael Guest, R-Miss., but acts on a bipartisan basis to investigate lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

The explosive report comes after a string of high-profile sexual harassment allegations against House members including now-former Reps. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., and Tony Gonzalez, R-Texas, both of whom have since resigned amid the blowback.

A Tucson grandmother who twice survived cancer died after she was allegedly attacked by a felon outside her apartment complex, authorities said.

The Tucson Police Department confirmed that 61-year-old Susan Gehrke died four days after a July 24 attack at an apartment complex.

Dahseir Edward Jefferson, 27, was arrested four days after the attack and initially booked on two counts of aggravated assault. Police later amended the charges to include second-degree murder following Gehrke’s death. He is being held on a $650,000 bond.

The late grandmother’s family told KOLD the injuries left her "unrecognizable."

"She’s an old lady that literally worked her whole life to support her family, and that’s the most memorable thing that anybody could do," Gehrke’s grandson, Frankie Zills, told the outlet.

Tucson police officers and firefighters responded at approximately 10 p.m. July 24 to reports of a fight at the apartment complex at 1201 N. Alvernon Way.

Officers discovered Gehrke and a man suffering from injuries, police said. Gehrke was taken to a hospital in life-threatening condition while the unidentified attacker fled before officers arrived.

Investigators learned that Gehrke and the man had been on an apartment patio when Jefferson allegedly approached the area, became confrontational and assaulted both of them, according to police.

The male victim was allegedly punched first and suffered serious injuries after falling to the ground.

Jefferson had previously served time in an Arizona prison for aggravated assault, according to state records.

He was sentenced to five years in 2021 and released in October 2024. He also had an earlier burglary conviction.

Michigan reports 2 deaths in rare parasite outbreak that has sickened more than 11,000

Two people in Michigan have died in connection with the state's sprawling cyclosporiasis outbreak, marking a rare fatal outcome from the intestinal parasite, health officials said Monday.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) said the deaths were identified as part of the ongoing outbreak, which has so far sickened 11,234 people statewide. As of Thursday, 193 people with reported infections said they had been hospitalized.

According to the agency, medical records showed both people who died "had significant underlying health conditions that may have been impacted by cyclosporiasis and dehydration." Officials said no additional information about the cases will be released.

CYCLOSPORA OUTBREAK: IS IT STILL SAFE TO EAT AT RESTAURANTS? HERE'S WHAT TO KNOW

State health officials are continuing to investigate the source of the outbreak and said available evidence points to lettuce or salad greens as a potential culprit. However, investigators cautioned that other food items have not been ruled out, and no specific type of produce, grower or supplier has been identified.

MDHHS said it is working with local health departments and other partners as the investigation continues and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal illness caused by the parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. The hallmark symptom of a cyclospora infection is watery, often "explosive" diarrhea that can last for weeks or even months if left untreated, the CDC says. Other symptoms include severe abdominal cramping, bloating, nausea, fatigue and significant weight loss.

Trump DOJ corners school district with 7-day ultimatum over trans policy keeping parents in the dark

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon demanded in a letter sent July 29 that a school district in Maryland stop hiding information about student gender transitions from parents or face litigation from the Justice Department.

"By categorically withholding ‘(i)nformation about a student’s gender identity’ from parents except where ‘legally required,’ AACPS appears to have adopted a blanket, district-wide practice of nondisclosure untethered to FERPA’s enumerated exceptions … parents were denied access to their child’s full record, information was disclosed without parental consent, and the parents were denied a hearing to correct the record," she wrote, aimed at the Anne Arundel County school system.

"Comply with the law or face us in court," Dhillon later added on X.

The demand marks the Trump administration’s latest effort to challenge school policies that allow students to socially transition without their parents’ knowledge, testing whether federal education privacy law requires districts to disclose gender-identity records. Anne Arundel County now faces possible litigation — and potentially the loss of federal funding — unless it reverses the policy within seven days, escalating a national dispute over parental rights, a significant plank in the president's policy agenda.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is designed to give parents the legal right to access their children’s educational records, which the Trump administration argues includes information related to changes in their gender identity. The law has previously been used by the DOJ in attempts to overturn similar policies in Maine and California.

LGBT advocates argue that nondisclosure for information linked to a child’s gender identity is important to preserving the safety of children growing up in non-affirming or abusive households. Social conservatives, meanwhile, take the position that schools don’t have the right to conceal information about their children from them.

Before Dhillon sent her letter Wednesday, the DOJ and the Department of Education announced that they had entered a partnership to crack down on transgender nondisclosure policies in both Anne Arundel County and Ann Arbor Public Schools in Michigan, potentially withholding federal funds from the district until it changes course.

VIRGINIA SCHOOL DISTRICT SUED OVER ALLEGED POLICY OF KEEPING STUDENTS' GENDER TRANSITIONS HIDDEN FROM PARENTS

In a press release announcing the joint effort, the agencies claimed that the Education Department had received complaints from parents in Anne Arundel County who alleged the district "was secretly helping their daughter pretend to be male at school" and declined to provide information about it when confronted.

An Education Department official told Fox News Digital that the agency does not comment on ongoing investigations and a DOJ spokesperson referred Fox News Digital to Dhillon's remarks when reached for comment.

Students enrolled in Anne Arundel Public Schools are, per district policy, allowed to use any name or pronoun they prefer, even if it doesn’t align with their sex, without requiring parental approval. Staff are, however, instructed to involve the student’s family in developing a support plan for the student unless "there is a genuine safety concern for the student’s physical, emotional, or mental health safety."

"School districts that hide information from parents are violating federal law," Dhillon said. "FERPA is not optional, and any districts that attempt to bypass or distort its requirements should expect immediate federal action. In partnership with the Department of Education, the Department of Justice will initiate enforcement proceedings with districts that fail to comply."

Dhillon's letter gives Anne Arundel Public Schools seven days to rescind its policy, provide parents impacted with the relevant records and inform staff that they cannot withhold information from parents. If the deadline is not met, the letter claims the district could face legal action.

It was, you know, when I think about what he did in terms of investing in the people in during dire times and talking about the role and responsibility of government, that it should not just be about the benevolence of community organizations or just interpersonal relationships, that the government has a role. I think that he was a very important president," she said.

She went on to name John F. Kennedy — also noting Lyndon B. Johnson, Kennedy's vice president, who took over the presidency after he was assassinated.

"I credit, you know, Kennedy, of course, in terms of what he laid the groundwork for and then Johnson followed up on," she said. "Around having the ability, but that was again an example of the inside outside game. Because the reason that happened is because the pressure was on from the outside to appeal to the conscience of the people on the inside."

Harris listed Barack Obama as her third choice, which the audience applauded.

"What he did with the Affordable Care Act among many things, but in particular, if we had one issue that has been ailing America for generations, which is a healthcare system that has failed anyone other than the rich and addressing that the way that he did and took a lot of heat for it. I think it's one of the greatest presidents," Harris said.

The list notably left off Biden, under whom she served as vice president.

Neither Harris' office nor Biden's office immediately returned Fox News Digital's requests for comment.

Harris took Biden's spot at the top of the Democratic presidential ticket in 2024 after the former president decided to exit the race following a rough debate performance against now-President Donald Trump.

Harris had a little over 100 days to mount a presidential campaign, and wrote in her book after the election that his decision to run for a second term was reckless.

"'It’s Joe and Jill’s decision.' We all said that, like a mantra, as if we’d all been hypnotized. Was it grace, or was it recklessness?" Harris wrote. "In retrospect, I think it was recklessness. The stakes were simply too high. This wasn’t a choice that should have been left to an individual’s ego, an individual’s ambition. It should have been more than a personal decision."

Harris took a series of left-wing policy positions during the conversation, and said she had not made a decision about 2028 yet.

"We must allow for a real conversation about revisiting certain things," Harris said. "I know this is gonna be controversial coming from me, in particular. We need to revisit the Electoral College."

Harris lost both the Electoral College and the popular vote to President Donald Trump in the 2024 election.

She also voiced support for expanding the Supreme Court.

"We need to revisit the point of expanding the court to 13 justices, like we have 13 district courts," Harris said. She also suggested the U.S. should revisit statehood for Puerto Rico, expanding beyond her previous support for statehood for Washington, D.C.

Zeteo founder and far-left commentator Mehdi Hasan reacted to a clip posted of Harris with a Biden animation where he appeared surprised.

A leading House Democrat went scorched-earth on insurgent socialists rising within his party, repeatedly telling them to start their own party and accusing them of trying to "hijack" the Democratic Party as a "vessel" for their communist, "anti-American," open-border platform.

House Intelligence Committee member Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., a leader of the moderate Blue Dog Coalition, told Fox News on Sunday that the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is "not Democrats" and rejected the idea that its platform is compatible with the Democratic Party’s.

"Obviously, I'm a very proud, commonsense Democrat, and I don't think DSA members are Democrats. They're socialists, right? And I'm all for them having their own party if they want one, but if they're trying to take over our party, that's unacceptable to me," Gottheimer said on "The Big Weekend Show."

"Their values, their ideas are certainly not in line with ours, and they don't support our leadership. They're trying to use the Democratic Party as a vessel for their ideas. And as you heard in some of these conventions, literally, they're supporting the Communist Manifesto and [Leon] Trotsky, they're anti-American, they are anti-cop, they don't believe in borders."

Gottheimer was referring to man-on-the-street clips of DSA members at the group’s Chicago convention. One socialist said they are organizing a front to get "ICE off our campuses," while a member of the DSA’s National Political Committee said people such as Gottheimer who call them anti-American do not understand that their platform is the "most American thing you can do."

Another DSA NPC member said socialism is the "same kind of stuff that I am used to [in] growing up in the Christian Church."

Gottheimer said 45 million voters are registered Democrats, compared with 150,000 official DSA members.

"They’re not welcome in the Democratic Party," he said.

He pushed back against members of his own party who have expressed openness to DSA-aligned candidates such as Maine oysterman Graham Platner.

Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., who represents Silicon Valley, said Democrats should not have "watched wealth pile up on Wall Street and Silicon Valley" at the expense of working-class Americans, adding that "the Democratic Party needs reform."

Gottheimer countered that fringe coalitions are mounting insurgencies in both parties and "trying to barge in" with incompatible ideas.

He also pointed to longtime Clinton confidant James Carville, who told Fox News that he would disown the Democratic Party if left-wing streamer Hasan Piker were permitted to become one of its leaders.

Former U.S. Marine Corps bomb technician Johnny Joey Jones asked whether Gottheimer would also leave the party over Piker or if Democratic leaders embraced socialists such as Harlem’s Darializa Chevalier.

"Well, [House Minority Leader Hakeem] Jeffries won’t — and let me be very clear that Hasan Piker is not a Democrat – the guy is the ultimate grifter, right? He’s the guy who said that 9/11 is America’s fault… We’ve got to make it clear he’s not welcome in the Democratic Party."

Gottheimer said the DSA platform shows that the organization is incompatible with the Democratic Party. He added that socialists can "scream and yell and try to …hijack [the party] and shove their ideas in and use it as a vessel."

"We have to make clear that’s not who we are…"

While Gottheimer reiterated that he does not plan to leave the Democratic Party any time soon, Jones noted that one prominent New Jersey Democrat already has.

Rep. Jeff Van Drew, whose district includes Cape May, switched parties during President Donald Trump’s first term, angering South Jersey Democratic committees as the longtime lawmaker embraced Trump’s platform.

"You wouldn't be the first New Jersey congressman to find a better party. I'm just saying leave the door open if you want to," Jones said.

Gottheimer’s district includes liberal New York City suburbs immediately west of the George Washington Bridge and the deep-red, Trump-friendly Skylands near the Delaware Water Gap, making it one of the most politically diverse districts in the state’s congressional delegation.

Familiarity will be a theme for the U.S. men's national soccer team at the 2030 World Cup.

Despite major speculation before and throughout the 2026 World Cup that manager Mauricio Pochettino was leaning toward returning to the club level, the United States Soccer Federation announced Monday that the 54-year-old had agreed to a new contract to keep him on the red, white, and blue sideline through 2030.

"Working together with U.S. Soccer over the past two years, it has become clear to us that there is tremendous potential to make the Men’s National Team program even stronger," Pochettino said in the announcement.

Pochettino and staff led the USMNT to just its third World Cup group stage outright win in team history at the 2026 World Cup, as well as the squad's first knockout-stage win since 2002 with a 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On paper, that is, at the very least.

For starters, it's hard to imagine the USMNT attracting a bigger, more-proven name than Pochettino to take over. On top of that, USA soccer presumably handing over more rein to a proven manager trying to build a team culture while the country continues to grow its own soccer culture feels like a no-brainer.

The 2030 World Cup will be jointly hosted by Portugal, Spain, and Morocco.

It is impossible to predict what the USMNT will look like in four years, but having the same manager building momentum who is already familiar with the territory, players, and prospects is a great first for the future of American soccer.

During an appearance with her husband, Dan Dakich, host of OutKick show "Don't @ Me," Leigh Ross-Dakich, a hall of fame softball player who won over 500 games during head coaching stops at Bowling Green and Syracuse, issued a dire warning to those wokes like Golden State Valkyries head coach Natalie Nakase who is on record seemingly defending the idea of biological males taking roster spots from biological females.

"Let's go. One league. Let's see what happens. What's going to happen is that girls are going to get wiped out," Ross-Dakich cautioned.

"The players that are here now, I don't know if they understand what women had to go through years ago in the '70s and '80s to get to a point where they actually could play and have their own leagues. I don't think they understand that," Ross-Dakich continued.

Iran reaffirms support for Hamas as Trump pushes to disarm terror group

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called Hamas’ newly elected leader to congratulate him and pledge Tehran’s continued support for the group’s cause, Hamas said Monday — as President Donald Trump promotes a landmark agreement intended to strip the terrorist organization of its weapons and power in Gaza.

Pezeshkian congratulated Khalil al-Hayya on his election as head of the group’s political bureau and told him Iran would continue supporting the Palestinian cause, according to a Hamas statement posted in Arabic, and reviewed by Fox News Digital.

"We are with you, and we support you in every action you take, despite the attacks we are facing," Pezeshkian said, according to Hamas’ account of the call.

Fox News Digital has asked Iran’s mission to the United Nations to confirm that the call took place and provide an official readout.

The reported conversation highlighted a central contradiction confronting Trump’s Gaza initiative: While the White House is presenting the roadmap as a landmark agreement to remove Hamas from power and secure its weapons, Iran — the group’s longtime military and financial patron — was simultaneously reaffirming its support for Hamas and its new leader. Tehran’s backing raises fresh questions about whether Hamas is prepared to surrender the arsenal at the core of its power and how the Board of Peace could enforce disarmament against a group that continues to receive political support from one of Washington’s principal regional adversaries.

Trump in recent days announced what he called a "HISTORIC agreement for the COMPLETE DISARMAMENT of Hamas and all other armed groups," presenting it as a breakthrough after nearly three years of war. The stakes extend far beyond the wording of the deal: Hamas’ weapons remain the central obstacle to rebuilding Gaza, and the agreement will test whether Trump’s Board of Peace can enforce a postwar transition or whether Hamas will exploit the process to survive, regroup and retain power.

At the center of the effort is Trump’s Board of Peace, the president’s handpicked vehicle for implementing his Gaza policy and potentially extending his approach to other global conflicts. Trump chairs the board, whose executive leadership includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The White House says the board will oversee Gaza’s transition, mobilize reconstruction funding and hold the parties accountable.

But the tensions intensified Monday also on the Israeli side, when Nickolay Mladenov, Board of Peace director-general and high representative for Gaza, and board advisor Aryeh Lightstone met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and urged Israel to halt its attacks in Gaza.

Israel appeared to reject the board’s two central demands shortly afterward.

"Israel will not withdraw from its current line in the Gaza Strip and will continue to thwart any threat to our civilians and soldiers," an Israeli political official said. The statement amounted to a rejection, at least for now, of demands that Israel return to the "yellow line" and halt targeted strikes in Gaza.

A Board of Peace official declined to discuss the meeting but said the body remained focused on carrying out the roadmap.

"We are focused on implementation," the official told Fox News Digital. "We have provided a pragmatic path forward to transform Gaza by removing Hamas from power and seeing it hand over its weapons. These steps would undoubtedly allow for the improvement of life in Gaza and enhancement of security in Israel. We remain determined to advance these objectives."

Meanwhile, the Hamas terrorist group says it has agreed only to a phased and conditional process involving the storage of weapons after Israel stops its attacks, withdraws its forces and allows more aid into Gaza. Hamas has avoided the word "disarmament" in its statements and insists its weapons would remain under Palestinian control rather than being surrendered to Israel or an international force.

HAMAS AGREES TO COMPLETE DISARMAMENT UNDER 'HISTORIC' GAZA AGREEMENT: TRUMP

The board’s 15-point roadmap calls for Hamas to transfer Gaza’s civilian government and security responsibilities to a Palestinian technocratic body known as the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. Hamas-run police would surrender their weapons to the committee, while heavy weapons, military production sites, weapons depots and tunnels would be addressed later through a phased decommissioning process linked to an Israeli withdrawal.

The intended endpoint is that only the new Palestinian authority would possess or control weapons in Gaza. But the roadmap leaves unresolved who will enforce the process, what constitutes compliance and which side must act first.

Hamas’ disarmament remains a central obstacle to rebuilding Gaza. Trump has tied reconstruction to the group laying down its weapons, while The Associated Press reported that the Board of Peace had secured approximately $7 billion in pledges by February — a fraction of the estimated $70 billion needed to rebuild the devastated territory.

Moumen al-Natour, a Palestinian lawyer from Gaza and co-founder of the anti-Hamas "We Want to Live" movement, said civilians desperately want the agreement to succeed but do not trust Hamas to relinquish power.

"Civilian people inside Gaza Strip… want safety, want to stop this war, want a new government, want to be alive," al-Natour told Fox News Digital.

But al-Natour, who previously was imprisoned by Hamas, warned that the group would use delays and violations to remain embedded in Gaza.

"I can’t trust Hamas because I know Hamas," he said, arguing that the group had repeatedly arrested and killed Palestinians who opposed its rule. He said an international force of only a few hundred personnel would be unable to secure Gaza or prevent Hamas from intimidating residents and that a much larger force and a new Palestinian police structure would be required.

Drawing on a grassroots network of thousands of Gazan professionals who reject Hamas’ ideology, the "We Want to Live" movement is promoting its own plan to rebuild Gaza’s civil society and is calling for cooperation with the Board of Peace and the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, the technocratic body tasked under the U.S.-backed transition plan with governing and rebuilding the enclave.

Al-Natour also proposed allowing civilians who want to escape Hamas-controlled areas to move into protected zones near the "yellow line" — the boundary separating Israeli-held territory from the rest of Gaza — where they could live under a new Palestinian administration backed by an international security force. He said the arrangement could provide Gazans with a safer alternative while a post-Hamas governing structure is established.

Michael Milstein, a former military intelligence officer in Israel and now head of the Palestinian Studies Centre at Tel Aviv University, said the compromise has been developing for months under pressure from Qatar, Turkey and Egypt.

Milstein said Hamas may be prepared to give up control of Gaza’s day-to-day government and accept restrictions on heavy weapons but is unlikely to abandon its armed organization completely.

Under the model Hamas appears to favor, Milstein said, a technocratic government and international forces would assume responsibility for public services and reconstruction while Hamas preserves its personnel, infrastructure and political influence — an arrangement resembling Hezbollah’s longtime position in Lebanon.

"There is a very, very low chance that Hamas will completely disarm," Milstein told Fox News Digital, describing the roadmap as the kind of "gray area" Hamas has historically used to its advantage.

The Board of Peace also is pressing for an end to actions that could derail the plan. After Israeli strikes killed civilians and reportedly destroyed medical supplies over the weekend, Mladenov, the director-general of the Board of Peace, called for de-escalation but did not identify Israel by name.

"Two days of strikes across Gaza have killed civilians and destroyed medical supplies," Mladenov wrote on X, adding that he was working with the parties and regional mediators to "create the space for the full implementation of the President’s plan."

Israel, meanwhile, says it will not withdraw before Hamas genuinely disarms. Hamas says Israel must withdraw first.

The roadmap also faces resistance inside Israel’s government. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Settlements Minister Orit Strock urged Netanyahu on Monday to convene the security Cabinet immediately and block the international stabilization force from entering Gaza, according to Israel’s N12 news outlet.

In an urgent letter reported by N12 on Aug. 3, 2026, the ministers called the Board of Peace roadmap "dangerous to Israel" and argued that it contradicts Israel’s stated goals of disarming Hamas and demilitarizing Gaza. They objected that weapons would be placed under the authority of a new Palestinian body rather than removed from Gaza or handed to Israel and that Israeli troops would begin withdrawing while the disarmament process was still underway.

The far-right ministers also argued that the international force would monitor the separation between Israeli troops and the new Palestinian administration rather than directly disarm Hamas. They demanded that Netanyahu prevent implementation until the roadmap is revised to require full demilitarization before an Israeli withdrawal. The letter underscores that the plan’s obstacles extend beyond Hamas: Influential members of Netanyahu’s coalition are also challenging its sequencing, enforcement and security provisions.

That leaves Trump’s proclaimed milestone resting on the same question that has stalled previous Gaza negotiations: whether Hamas is truly preparing to surrender the weapons that underpin its power — or merely buying time to ensure that it remains standing when the rebuilding begins.
