NCAA created this mess, now LSU set to make Dae’Quan Wright college football’s first NFL returnee

Former Ole Miss tight end Dae’Quan Wright could make history this week by becoming the first player to jump from the NFL back to college football — with LSU coach Lane Kiffin at the center of this new development.

In what has become one of the wildest offseasons in recent memory, college athletics is reeling from a wave of lawsuits filed against the NCAA by athletes in the 2022 recruiting class.

After filing suit in a Louisiana court last week, plaintiffs received a temporary restraining order from 19th Judicial District Court Judge Will Jorden in Baton Rouge.

The ruling opened a makeshift transfer portal that was viable for only one week, allowing a number of athletes to contemplate an unprecedented move: participating in NFL training camp one week, then enrolling in college classes the next.

On Sunday night, Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken was left flabbergasted by the situation. It involved a call from Kiffin last week that he did not return.

What was the call about? Monken implied following the Browns’ preseason game that it centered on Wright, who dressed Saturday night but did not play.

"Man, isn't this s--- crazy?" Todd Monken told reporters. "I don't even know what to say. ... I wondered why Lane Kiffin reached out to me a week ago, now I know. I didn't call him back; I guess I should have."

While the Tenth Circuit in Colorado granted a stay last week in the Wisne v. NCAA case — halting the blanket waiver that had allowed members of the 2022 class to join any team willing to take them — the decision only opened the door for more lawsuits at the state level.

One of those cases was filed just a few miles from LSU’s campus. And Kiffin appears more than willing to welcome one of his former Ole Miss players back to college for another season.

Doesn’t this violate the SEC's intraconference transfer rules? Well...

If you were unaware, the conference has a rule in place that prohibits athletes from transferring to another SEC school outside of the normal portal period.

The rule, which dates back to former Alabama defensive back Mo Smith, makes it a point to emphasize that an athlete cannot make a move like Dae'Quan Wright is trying to pull off.

Under normal circumstances, Wright would not be allowed to play for Ole Miss in 2025 and then LSU in 2026 if the transfer is made outside of the NCAA's transfer portal period.

But technically, there is no rule pertaining to a player going from an SEC school to the NFL, and then back to another conference program within the same year.

And, according to the court order granted by Judge Will Jorden of Louisiana, any school that takes an athlete protected by the previously mentioned temporary order cannot be punished by the NCAA or conference for adding a player like Dae'Quan Wright to the roster.

This could also lead to former LSU edge rusher Jack Pyburn making a return to Baton Rouge this week as well.

Remember Tennessee linebacker Arion Carter?

He's preparing to serve a two-game suspension for accepting a $427 plane ticket after declaring for the NFL after the 2025 season.

Just a few weeks later, after finding out he had a foot injury that would prevent him from preparing for the draft, he took himself out of the process and returned to Tennessee. Because he hired an agent and took a small amount of money, the NCAA suspended him for two-games.

Now? I wouldn’t blame Carter if he chose the sue the NCAA in hopes of being granted a ruling that would allow him to play immediately.

The athletic department or schools could easily just say 'no thanks'

What is being forgotten by some during this whole kerfuffle is that it essentially comes down to the school president.

If LSU's Wade Rousse wanted to avoid having his school in this ongoing mess, he could easily tell Lane Kiffin to just back down.

The same could be said for athletic director Verge Ausberry. But, why would one school say 'no' to something that opponents could easily take advantage of as well?

So, it's hard to blame the school for the NCAA's doing, even if that sounds like an excuse.

The same folks who are complaining about the current mess in college athletics are the same ones who are inviting the chaos through their front door.

Again though, it's pretty hard to put this on the schools, especially when the door has been opened.

But please, save us from the talking points around the 'Protect College Sports Act' that is currently floundering around the Senate.

"I think there’s a lot of negatives that are involved around this," Oregon's Dan Lanning told the media following Oregon's practice on Saturday. "One, once you go to the NFL, to me, you’re in the NFL. You don’t get the opportunity to come back. Two, most of us have built our rosters and you have a limited roster limit now.

"So if you invited somebody back to your team, that means you’re kicking somebody else off your team to match your roster limits. I don’t think that’s fair to the players that worked all summer, all spring and put themselves in position to be ready to work for a team to have somebody come back."

Shelley Fabares, star of 'The Donna Reed Show' and 'Coach,' dead at 82

Shelley Fabares, the actress and singer who starred in "The Donna Reed Show" and earned two Emmy nominations for her role in "Coach," has died. She was 82.

Fabares died Saturday in Los Angeles surrounded by her loved ones, her family confirmed in a statement to the Associated Press. Her cause of death was not disclosed.

"To her family and friends, Shelley was a source of love, strength, laughter, and comfort," her family wrote, according to the outlet. "She had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcomed, valued, and cared for."

"We will remember Shelley for her kindness, loyalty, wit, courage, and beautiful spirit. We will miss her deeply — not only as a celebrated performer, but as the loving and extraordinary person she was in our everyday lives," they added.

Fabares became one of television's most recognizable young stars when she was cast as Mary Stone, the teenage daughter of the characters played by Donna Reed and Carl Betz, on "The Donna Reed Show" in 1958.

During her time on the hit family sitcom, Fabares unexpectedly launched a successful recording career after the show's producer, Tony Owen, decided to incorporate singing into the series.

The actress's debut single, "Johnny Angel," reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1962 and sold more than 1 million copies. She released several albums and scored additional hits with "Johnny Loves Me" and "The Things We Did Last Summer," though she later acknowledged that she never considered herself much of a singer.

Fabares left "The Donna Reed Show" as a regular cast member in 1963 but returned for guest appearances before the series ended in 1966. She remained close to Reed, whom she credited as a mentor who helped her navigate Hollywood as a young actress.

At the height of her teen idol fame, Fabares transitioned to the big screen and starred opposite Elvis Presley in three movies: "Girl Happy" in 1965, "Spinout" in 1966 and "Clambake" in 1967.

She also appeared in the 1964 surf movie "Ride the Wild Surf," the 1966 musical comedy "Hold On!" with Herman’s Hermits and the 1968 Hank Williams Jr. film "A Time to Sing."

Born Michele Ann Marie Fabares on Jan. 19, 1944, in Santa Monica, California, she was the niece of actress Nanette Fabray. Fabares began modeling as a young child and made her television debut at age 10 on an episode of "Letter to Loretta."

Her early credits included appearances in "The Bad Seed," "Never Say Goodbye," "Jeanne Eagels" and "Marjorie Morningstar." She also appeared with Annette Funicello in the 1958 Disney serial "Annette."

After her initial success as a teen star, Fabares built a prolific television career that spanned several decades. In 1971, she portrayed Joy Piccolo, the wife of Chicago Bears running back Brian Piccolo, whom James Caan played, in the acclaimed television movie "Brian's Song," which also starred Billy Dee Williams.

Fabares later held regular roles on "The Brian Keith Show," "The Practice" and "Forever Fernwood." From 1978 to 1984, she played Francine Webster, the professional rival of Bonnie Franklin’s Ann Romano, on "One Day at a Time."

She also made guest appearances on television shows including "The Twilight Zone," "Mannix," "The Rockford Files," "The Love Boat," "Fantasy Island," "Mork & Mindy" and "Murder, She Wrote."

In 1989, Fabares found renewed success when she joined the ABC sitcom "Coach" as Christine Armstrong, the girlfriend and eventual wife of Hayden Fox, the college football coach played by Craig T. Nelson.

Fabares remained with the series throughout its nine-season run, appearing with Craig T. Nelson, Jerry Van Dyke and Bill Fagerbakke until the show ended in 1997. Her performance earned her two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, in 1993 and 1994.

Later in her career, Fabares lent her voice to Martha Kent in several animated Superman projects, including "Superman: The Animated Series," "Justice League" and the 2006 film "Superman: Brainiac Attacks."

Fabares became an advocate for Alzheimer's awareness after her mother, Elsa, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. She helped raise money for research, delivered speeches and testified before Congress about the disease. Her mother died in 1992.

In 1999, Fabares faced a serious health crisis when doctors discovered she had progressive liver failure related to autoimmune hepatitis. After spending nearly two years on a transplant waiting list, she had a liver transplant in October 2000.

Fabares married record and film producer Lou Adler in 1964. The couple separated two years later, and their divorce was finalized in 1980.

The Athletic probes Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel relationship while considering getting in bed with the NFL

The line between the NFL and the journalists that cover the league has gotten somewhat blurred recently and the latest example of that trend is The Athletic engaging in discussions with the NFL to add its content on the league's signature website.

As Front Office Sports reported recently, and a source confirmed to OutKick on Sunday, the New York Times-owned sports vertical and the NFL have held discussions about expanding their relationship.

And while the primary subject of those talks is said to be about video content, the idea of possibly including written content from the The Athletic on NFL.com and the NFL+ app has been part of discussions, the source confirmed.

It is unclear how far along these talks about collaboration are but what is certain is that if they reach an agreement to indeed place The Athletic stories on the NFL media website, multiple thorny issues will be raised.

Let's begin here:

The Athletic is currently believed to be conducting an internal probe on the work of its former NFL reporter Dianna Russini as it pertains to a possible conflict of interest she may have had with New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel.

So, The Athletic is presumably in the throes of this conflict of interest investigation of a former reporter with an NFL coach while at the same time engaging in talks to enter into a conflict of interest situation with the NFL.

Got it.

People who kept abreast of the Russini-Vrabel news can understand the relationship extended beyond professional. That was amplified by the Page Six photos of Russini and Vrabel hugging, holding hands, and lounging by a pool and a hot tub at a Sedona, Arizona resort last spring.

The photos suggested something more intimate than a typically accepted reporter-coach relationship and Vrabel admitted he eventually had to have difficult conversations with his family, including his wife, and even sought family counseling to address the situation.

That raises a sizeable inconsistency. The Athletic is presumably investigating Russini for possibly engaging in a questionable relationship with an NFL coach at a time it is weighing whether to get in bed with the NFL.

The Athletic's journalists are schooled on the vertical's editorial guidelines, most of them derived from The Times.

"When reporting and writing stories we do not have an agenda and it is important that our readers understand that," the section on transparency reads. "If our readers question our adherence to that basic tenet of journalism, our credibility will be at stake.

"To maintain the highest form of authority we should avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest and reveal ... sources or affiliations that may put into question our ability to be credible."

NFL PUTS 'INSPIRE CHANGE' AND 'CHOOSE LOVE' ON FIELDS BUT NOT SO AGGRESSIVE ABOUT ITS DOMESTIC ABUSE ISSUES

So will The Athletic, on the one hand trying to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest, allow an affiliation with the NFL that violates its own guidelines by calling into question its credibility?

And such a move would indeed put into question The Athletic's ability to be credible if the content shared on the NFL site declines to address unflattering or controversial issues of domestic violence, suspensions, poor officiating, or the NFL's political agenda – which can be both left- and right-leaning at times.

Finally, The Athletic has over the last decade been a subscription-based service. The NFL's news website is not.

That's not a journalistic conflict of interest issue. But if The Athletic gives over its content to the NFL for free reader consumption, it does become a financial conflict of interest question within the company that readers will ultimately judge.

Fever coach dismisses Enes Kanter Freedom’s women’s sports fight as a 'social media thing'

Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White urged reporters not to give Sunday’s courtside confrontation at Wintrust Arena any more attention, calling it a "social media thing," after Enes Kanter Freedom was ejected following a verbal clash with Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud.

Freedom has spent weeks exposing the WNBA’s cowardice on transgender eligibility, demanding the league protect biological women from male competition.

The Fever coach made clear she would rather bury the discussion than confront it.

"I mean, I think it's important that people like you guys in this room don't give it any gas, right? Like it's a social media thing," White told reporters when asked about the incident postgame.

During a third-quarter timeout with Indiana leading 81-75, Cloud began shouting toward Freedom at courtside and Freedom responded, prompting security to escort the former NBA center from the arena as the Fever went on to pull away for a 113-90 win.

Tensions were already high before the ejection.

Before tipoff, Freedom was shouted at and flipped off by fans, and security had to guide him through a hostile crowd outside Wintrust Arena.

Freedom later talked to OutKick and spoke about what went down. He said he believed his shirt, which contained the definition of a woman, was what triggered Cloud.

"I was cheering for my friend Sophie because when she shot that three, I put my hands in the air," Freedom said. "A couple possessions later, she came back and said, ‘She’s not gonna sleep with you.’ And I was shocked. I was like, ‘Listen, I’m not trying to sleep with her. I think she’s awesome. She’s a good friend.’ But I think it has a lot to do with my shirt.

"I was obviously wearing a shirt explaining what a woman is, and I think that had a lot to do with what she thinks about women. I think it triggered her a lot."

And it's not just a Chicago problem.

Last month in Seattle, Storm co-owner Celeste Keaton confronted two teenage fans holding signs in support of Fever guard Sophie Cunningham and reportedly called them "f—ing insane."

The WNBA suspended Keaton from five home games and fined her over the incident.

Freedom’s ejection was the latest moment White is trying to wave away as "social media," even though the WNBA firestorm began when Cunningham said biological men do not belong in women’s sports and that young girls deserve protection.

At an Indiana Fever-Atlanta Dream game earlier this month, WNBA security told a mother and her teenage daughter to cover their pro-women’s-sports shirts or get tossed. The league later admitted it never should have happened.

Freedom then declared for the 2027 WNBA Draft, while former NBA player Royce White announced a similar bid. WNBA leadership has held meetings to address the issue but has not provided a clear public answer on transgender eligibility.

When Sky players Azura Stevens and Aicha Coulibaly were asked about Freedom’s ejection, Stevens said security had handled it.

"There was just a fan incident and the security handled it," Stevens said. "We’re going to just focus on the game."

Sky coach Tyler Marsh also backed Cloud, saying, "We all embrace her as someone who protects our team and protects people who need to be protected."

Meanwhile, Fever superstar Caitlin Clark said she did not see the confrontation.

Fever players said they had no interaction with Freedom during the game.

"To be honest, I didn't see it," Clark said. "We were talking about it the next play in our huddle, so I think that's probably a question for Chicago."

White can tell reporters to stop "giving it any gas," but the WNBA cannot dismiss this as social media when the dispute keeps producing confrontations, ejections and suspensions.

Ancient clue cracks open a 2,000-year-old mystery near famed Colosseum

Archaeologists digging near Rome's Colosseum believe they may have found an ancient firehouse dating back nearly 2,000 years.

The building, which dates to the second century A.D., was found in the Villa Celimontana park near the Colosseum, Reuters reported this month.

Villa Celimontana dates to the 16th century, when it was developed as a noble residence on Caelian Hill, one of the seven hills of ancient Rome.

The discovery was originally announced by Rome's archaeological superintendency, part of Italy's Ministry of Culture.

At the excavation site, archaeologists fully uncovered five of the building's eight rooms, which contain mosaics and remnants of painted decorations.

Officials believe the building may have been part of the nearby barracks of the Fifth Cohort of the Vigiles, ancient Rome's firefighting force.

They cited one telling clue: A mosaic found at the site closely resembles one previously discovered in a firefighters' barracks in Ostia, ancient Rome's port city.

The Vigiles were also tasked with maintaining public order at night, and their nearby barracks used water from an aqueduct.

"If this hypothesis is confirmed, the discovery would help reassess the extent of one of the most important military complexes of imperial Rome," officials said in a statement.

Pictures show the remains of the ancient building, including exposed walls and sections uncovered during the excavation.

Other images show fragments of mosaic uncovered at the site.

Another possibility, said officials, is that the structure was a private residence, or domus, similar to others found on Caelian Hill.

The elaborate decorations could support that hypothesis, officials said.

"Only a thorough study of the excavation materials and the structures exposed will provide further information on the newly discovered structure," the superintendency said.

The possible firehouse is the latest in a string of ancient Roman discoveries to emerge across Italy in recent months.

Sky coach praises Natasha Cloud after heated verbal altercation with Enes Kanter Freedom

Chicago Sky head coach Tyler Marsh praised Natasha Cloud after she was involved in a verbal altercation with Enes Kanter Freedom.

During the third quarter of the Indiana Fever's 113-90 win over the Sky at Wintrust Arena, Cloud began barking at Freedom, who was sitting courtside. Freedom then stepped toward the floor and yelled back at Cloud with his arms spread, with security quickly intervening and ushering Freedom out.

Marsh said the team embraces Cloud for protecting "people who need to be protected."

"I talked to the team and Tash didn’t want to feel like she was a distraction, I told her she wasn’t. I told that we all embrace her as someone that protects our team and protects people that need to be protected. And so Tash is always going to stand on that and we stand for Tash," Marsh said at the postgame press conference.

Marsh said that Cloud needed to be settled down a little bit after the incident and that he thought she locked back in and played a good game.

"I just told the team that I’m proud of how we ride for each other," Marsh said. "She’s passionate, and she’s passionate about the things she believes in, she’s passionate about her teammates and we’re passionate about her."

When asked whether he had a message for Kanter, or people like him, Marsh said people should go to WNBA games and enjoy the basketball.

"I think that there’s so much good things about this league and so many good things about the play of these players and if you come to a game you should probably come to enjoy the basketball and that seems pretty simple to me. I think these players deserve that and have earned that. Being a former basketball player you should understand and feel that too," Marsh said.

Cloud was not made available for the team’s postgame press conference. Sky forward-center Azura Stevens opened the team’s press availability, saying that security handled a fan incident and that the team was going to focus on the game.

Kanter later spoke to OutKick about the incident.

"Sophie Cunningham shot a three, and I put my hands up to celebrate," Freedom said. "Literally, a couple possessions later, Natasha came back and started screaming and yelling and said, ‘She’s not gonna sleep with you.’

"And I was like, ‘I am not trying to sleep with her. I’m just here to protect women and support her.’ And then, obviously, after that she started yapping, and she started to walk towards me, and literally I just got up, and then I was like, ‘I’m just here to protect women, and that’s all.’"

Kanter, who recently declared himself eligible for the 2027 WNBA Draft, attended the game wearing a shirt that defined what a woman is, something the league itself has not yet seemed to answer.

When he arrived at the game, he was quickly mobbed by a hostile crowd that wanted to give the 11-year NBA veteran a piece of its mind. Kanter took to X to post about his experience at the game.

"I just got kicked out of a WNBA game for supporting WOMEN! Let that sink in, AMERICA!" he posted to X.

"It’s always women hating on other women," he said in a separate post to X.

Kanter said he believed his T-shirt, which contained the definition of a woman, sparked the incident.

"I was obviously wearing a shirt explaining what a woman is, and I think that had a lot to do with what she thinks about women. I think it triggered her a lot."

Kanter’s interaction with Cloud was not the first time the two had crossed paths. He offered to buy her a plane ticket to China, Russia or Turkey when she previously called America "trash," so that she could experience actual tyranny.

Janie Bradford Hobbs, an early Motown songwriter who co-wrote "Money (That’s What I Want)" and penned songs recorded by Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and other music legends, has died after an extended illness at 87.

Bradford Hobbs died at a Los Angeles hospital, her family said Saturday.

Born in Charleston, Missouri, Bradford Hobbs later moved to Detroit, where neighbor and singer Jackie Wilson introduced her to Motown founder Berry Gordy in the late 1950s.

She started working for Motown as a receptionist in 1958, but her role soon went well beyond answering phones. Like many employees in Motown’s early days, Bradford Hobbs became involved in making the music.

She and Gordy wrote "Money (That’s What I Want)," which Barrett Strong recorded in 1959. The song became one of Motown’s first hits and was later recorded by The Beatles.

Bradford Hobbs also wrote "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby." The Temptations recorded the song first, and Marvin Gaye later had a hit with it. She also wrote songs for Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, Martha & The Vandellas and others.

"Janie was there with me from the very beginning, before there was even a Motown, and she will always hold a very special place in my heart and in the Motown family," Gordy said in a statement.

Gordy described Bradford Hobbs as one of the people who believed in Motown before anyone knew what it would become.

"Janie was one of a special group I have always thought of as the original Motown family — the unsung heroes who believed in the dream before anyone knew what Motown would become," Gordy continued. "She was one of the people who helped make Motown what it became."

Bradford Hobbs later became head of Writer Relations for Jobete, Motown’s publishing company. After leaving Motown, she founded the annual Heroes and Legends Awards, which honored figures in the music industry and awarded scholarships for about 30 years, according to her family.

She is survived by her husband, Wardean Hobbs; daughter, Nicole Hobbs; son, Lance Finney; and two grandsons. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Because the conversation feels one-on-one, it can be easy to forget how personal it has become.

Now, AI companies are giving their assistants more ways to remember what you tell them. In some cases, AI can also draw from activity beyond a single conversation. That raises a bigger privacy question. What happens when an AI assistant can build a more detailed understanding of you over time?

The answer depends on the service you use and the settings you choose. Your information may help personalize future responses. In some cases, your AI activity can also influence recommendations or advertising.

AI chatbot privacy goes beyond model training

For years, one of the biggest AI privacy questions has been whether companies use your conversations to train future models. That still matters. However, training is only part of the picture. AI assistants can use memory to personalize future conversations. Some can draw context from connected services. Others can use certain AI interactions to help decide what content or ads you see.

So, turning off model training does not necessarily turn off memory or every form of personalization. For example, OpenAI has separate controls for model training, memory and advertising personalization. Meta also has its own rules about how interactions with Meta AI can influence content and ads.

We have previously covered the dangers of over-sharing with AI tools. As these assistants learn more about us, being selective about what you share becomes even more important. The more information an AI service can connect about you, the more personalized it can become. That can be useful. It can also create a much more detailed digital picture of your interests, routines and concerns.

ChatGPT Computer History can learn from your Mac activity

OpenAI added Computer History to the ChatGPT desktop app for macOS on Aug. 13. The optional feature lets ChatGPT and Codex use selected activity from apps and websites as context. Instead of capturing screenshots or screen recordings, OpenAI says Computer History records interaction events. It also excludes private browsing.

However, Computer History isn’t available to every ChatGPT user. OpenAI currently offers it to Pro, Business and Enterprise users. Business and Enterprise administrators must enable access before individual members can choose to turn it on. The feature is off by default.––

You can decide which apps and websites contribute information. You can also pause collection, inspect your timeline and delete history. Computer History requires Memories to work.

There are some privacy details worth knowing. OpenAI says temporary interaction-event files remain on your Mac for up to 48 hours. The company processes those events on its servers to generate memories. It says it does not retain the temporary event files after processing, unless required by law, and does not use those files for training.

Generated memory files stay on your Mac until you delete them. OpenAI also says those files are plain-text Markdown files and Computer History does not encrypt them itself. Other programs running under your macOS user account may be able to access them. That makes the feature useful, but it also gives you another reason to exclude sensitive apps and websites.

Google Search can save media you upload

Google is also expanding what can become part of your Search Services History. If Search Services History and its Save Media setting are enabled, Google can save media from your Search interactions. That can include images, files and audio or video recordings you upload or create while using supported Search services.

Google says saved media can help personalize your experience. The company may also use it to develop and improve its AI models and other technologies. If Google selects saved media for AI training, it says it disconnects that media from your Google Account first. Google says training data may then remain for up to four years. It also says it uses filters designed to remove identifying or sensitive personal information.

However, you have controls. Turning off Save Media stops Google from saving media from future Search interactions to your Search Services History. Google says future media will then stay out of generative AI training unless you submit it as feedback.

Previously saved media does not disappear when you simply turn the setting off. You need to delete it separately if you want it removed from your account. Media already selected for AI training may remain in Google's training systems after it has been disconnected from your account. That is a good example of why changing a privacy setting and deleting previously collected data are not always the same thing.

Meta can use AI conversations to personalize ads

Meta takes a more direct approach to using some AI interactions for personalization. The company announced in 2025 that interactions with its generative AI features could become signals for the content and ads people see across Meta products. Those changes took effect on Dec. 16, 2025, in most supported regions. For example, Meta says chatting with Meta AI about hiking could signal that you are interested in hiking. As a result, you could later see related recommendations or advertisements.

Meta places limits around certain sensitive subjects. The company says it does not use information from AI conversations about health or political views to show you ads. Meta also excludes religious views and several other sensitive categories from ad personalization.

Still, regular Meta AI interactions can become another source of information used to personalize your experience. That makes it worth checking your Meta privacy and ad settings before sharing something personal.

Meta now has an Incognito Chat option

Meta has also taken a different approach for people who want a more private AI conversation. On May 13, 2025, Meta announced Incognito Chat for Meta AI on WhatsApp and in the Meta AI app. The feature is rolling out over several months, so it may not yet appear for everyone.

Meta says Incognito Chat processes conversations inside a secure environment that the company itself cannot access. It also says those conversations are not saved, and messages disappear by default. That gives you a very different privacy experience from a regular Meta AI conversation.

We took a closer look at the feature in our guide to Meta AI's private Incognito Chat. If you have the feature, it is worth considering whenever the subject is especially personal.

Apple processes many AI requests on your device

Apple uses a more device-centered architecture for Apple Intelligence. When you make an Apple Intelligence request, an on-device model first determines whether your device can handle the task itself. If the request needs a larger model, Apple can send relevant information to Private Cloud Compute.

Apple says Private Cloud Compute receives only the information needed to complete the request. According to Apple, the content isn’t stored or made accessible to Apple. The system processes it for the request and does not retain it afterward. However, those protections apply to Apple's own Apple Intelligence system.

Apple also lets you send certain requests to third-party services such as ChatGPT. If you use ChatGPT through Apple's integration without signing into a ChatGPT account, OpenAI says it does not receive your IP address, store your requests or use them to train its models.

The situation changes if you connect your ChatGPT account. In that case, your existing OpenAI account settings apply. Your interactions may also appear in your ChatGPT history depending on your settings. So, even inside Apple Intelligence, pay attention to which AI service is actually handling your request.

ChatGPT ads can use past chats and memory if you allow it

Advertising inside AI conversations is already here. OpenAI began testing ads in ChatGPT in the U.S. on Feb. 9. Eligible Free and Go users can see ads in regions where the program is available. Plus and Pro plans remain ad-free, along with Business, Enterprise and Education plans.

OpenAI also offers Free users an ad-free option with reduced usage limits and reduced access to some tools. The privacy controls around those ads are especially relevant here. OpenAI says ads can take the context of your current conversation into account. If you enable personalized ads, past chats and memory can also contribute to ad relevance.

However, OpenAI says advertisers do not receive your conversations, chat history or memories. The company says it does not sell your data to advertisers. Advertisers receive aggregated performance information such as views or clicks. OpenAI also says ads do not influence ChatGPT's answers and remain separate from the response.

You can turn off ad personalization under ChatGPT's Ad Controls. If you do, OpenAI says ads can still use the context of your current chat, but other chat threads and memory will not inform the ads you see. That makes advertising another privacy setting worth reviewing separately from model training.

AI privacy rules remain a patchwork

The U.S. still does not have one comprehensive federal privacy law governing how all companies collect and use personal data. Instead, federal sector-specific laws exist alongside a growing collection of state privacy requirements. Existing consumer protection laws still apply to AI companies.

The Federal Trade Commission has warned AI companies that privacy and confidentiality promises carry legal consequences. The agency has said deceptive or unfair data practices can violate existing consumer protection laws. The FTC has also investigated consumer-facing AI chatbots, including their advertising, safety and data-handling practices. So, company privacy policies matter. They tell you what a service says it can do with information you may consider deeply personal.

How to keep your AI chatbot conversations more private

You do not need to give up AI tools to protect your privacy. However, you should decide how much information each service really needs before you start typing.

1) Think before sharing sensitive information

Treat a general-purpose chatbot differently from a private notebook. Avoid entering passwords or Social Security numbers. Do not paste complete banking or investment account details either. If you upload a document, review it first. Remove information the chatbot does not need.

2) Use temporary or private chats when available

ChatGPT's Temporary Chat does not use existing memories or create new ones. OpenAI also says Temporary Chats do not appear in your history or train its models. OpenAI says Temporary Chats are deleted from its systems after 30 days. Meanwhile, Meta is rolling out Incognito Chat for supported Meta AI users. Meta says those conversations are not saved. Use these modes when you do not want a conversation feeding future personalization.

3) Review what ChatGPT remembers about you

OpenAI now lets you review a Memory summary under Settings > Personalization > Memory. You can also ask ChatGPT what it remembers about you. OpenAI says the summary may not display every detail the system can draw from your past conversations. If you find something you do not want remembered, remove it. Keep in mind that deleting one memory may not erase every source containing that information. OpenAI says fully removing information can require deleting related chats, files or other sources as well.

4) Turn off ChatGPT model training if you prefer

On the web, go to Profile > Settings > Data Controls. Then turn off Improve the model for everyone. OpenAI says your conversations will remain in your chat history, but new conversations will not train its models. The setting applies across your account. 5) Check Google's Search Services History

If you use Google's AI-powered Search features, review Search Services History in your Google Account. Then look for the Save Media setting. Turning Save Media off prevents future media from being saved to that history. Google says it also prevents future media from being used to train its generative AI models unless you submit feedback. Remember to review previously saved material too. Turning the switch off does not automatically delete what is already there.

6) Review AI connections you no longer use

AI becomes far more personal when it can reach information outside the conversation. So, periodically review connected apps and services. Remove connections you no longer need. If you use ChatGPT, memory can also include relevant information accessed through connected apps when that feature is enabled. You should also protect the account itself. 7) Check advertising controls separately

Do not assume that disabling AI training also turns off advertising personalization. OpenAI separates its training, memory and ad controls. Meta also provides its own ad preference controls. Take a few minutes to review each one. The more AI services know about you, the more valuable those settings become.

Kurt's key takeaways

AI gets much more useful when it remembers who you are. I can see why people want that. Repeating your preferences every time you open a chatbot gets old fast. An assistant that remembers your work or picks up where you left off can save a lot of time. Still, I would not treat personalization as an automatic yes. We're entering a period when the information surrounding an AI conversation can become almost as valuable as the prompt itself. Your memories, connected services and activity can give these systems a much deeper picture of your life. Advertising adds another layer. OpenAI now says past chats and memories can help personalize ads when you allow it. Meta already uses certain AI interactions as signals for content and advertising. For me, the safest approach is to give an AI assistant the context it needs without handing over everything it could possibly learn. Check what it remembers. Review the services you connected. Then decide whether the convenience is worth the added exposure.

US kills two 'narco-terrorists' in strike 2 months since last announced anti-'narco-trafficking' attack

The U.S. military conducted a deadly attack against a vessel on Sunday, killing two people that it described as "narco-terrorists."

Video footage shows the explosive strike on the low-profile vessel.

"On August 23, under the commander of U.S. Southern Command, Gen. Francis L. Donovan’s direction, Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere executed a lethal kinetic strike on a low-profile vessel operating along established narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific," an Aug. 24 news release stated.

"Confirmed intelligence revealed the vessel's active involvement in narco-trafficking. The operation killed two narco-terrorists," the release noted.

The military has executed dozens of strikes against alleged drug trafficking vessels during President Donald Trump's second term in office, a policy that has been controversial.

The last time U.S. Southern Command announced such a strike was just over two months ago on June 21 — that strike killed two, but there were six survivors.

"When I ordered the establishment of Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere, it was precisely for this purpose: to accelerate, synchronize, and execute lethal actions against these destabilizing narco-terrorist networks," Donovan said, according to the Monday announcement about the strike carried out on Sunday. "We are committed to imposing total systemic friction on narco-terrorists -- disrupting their operations, dismantling their leadership, and eliminating cartel terror across the region."

WNBA player Natasha Cloud fires off pro-trans message following altercation with Enes Kanter Freedom

Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud fired off a pro-trans message on Sunday night following an altercation with Enes Kanter Freedom during the team’s loss to the Indiana Fever.

In the third quarter, Cloud scored a bucket that led to the Fever calling a timeout. She directed her emotion toward Freedom, who was sitting near the basket at the Wintrust Arena. Freedom stood up and walked toward Cloud. Sky players and security had to get in between the two.

Freedom was escorted out of the arena and was unable to return for the rest of the game.

Cloud didn’t speak at the Sky’s postgame media availability. She fired off a message on Threads in support of the transgender community.

"To every trans kid/person, You are apart of MY community & tribe. You belong. You’re loved. You’re seen. You’re perfect as you are. & you will always be protected by me," Cloud wrote.

ENES KANTER FREEDOM EJECTED FROM SKY-FEVER GAME AFTER VERBAL ALTERCATION WITH NATASHA CLOUD

Cloud’s message appeared to be a swipe at Freedom, who announced his intentions to compete in the WNBA as players and coaches have spoken out about trans athletes in women and girls’ sports. Freedom was wearing a T-shirt with the definition of a woman on it.

"Woman – adult human female," his shirt read.

Freedom later told OutKick he believed his T-shirt had something to do with the altercation.

"I was obviously wearing a shirt explaining what a woman is, and I think that had a lot to do with what she thinks about women. I think it triggered her a lot."

Freedom attended his first WNBA game after saying he wanted to join the WNBA. As he entered the arena Sunday afternoon, he was berated by a mob of angry WNBA fans.

After the incident, Freedom fired off a few social media posts.

"I just got kicked out of a @WNBA game for supporting WOMEN! Let that sink in, AMERICA!" he wrote on X.

Driven by progressive doomism, liberals are having fewer babies than conservative families

America’s political divide is extending into the nursery, as data shows conservatives are having more children than liberals.

The Atlantic, citing research from the Institute for Family Studies (IFS), reported that self-identified conservatives have an average of 1.4 children, compared to 1.09 for liberals. It’s a gap IFS researchers said remained even after controlling for other variables, such as sex, religion, race, income, age, marital status and education.

"Having children — particularly lots of children — has become a bit right-coded, as the kids say. Americans and Europeans who identify as leftist or liberal tend to have fewer children than those who identify as conservative or right-leaning," Atlantic staff writer Olga Khazan wrote in her article, "Another Big Difference Between Liberals and Conservatives."

The Trump administration has positioned itself as pro-family, with prominent members, including Vice President JD Vance, urging the country to have more babies.

The administration has also proposed financial incentives aimed at raising the birthrate, including a $5,000 "baby bonus" for mothers giving birth, while Trump signed an executive order expanding access to in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Khazan argues that research shows that the birthrate divide between parties may have more to do with lifestyle choices and different priorities between the two groups. She argues that conservatives are more likely to view family as vital to a fulfilled life, while liberals may place greater emphasis on higher education, creative pursuits or career success.

"In one recent Pew Research Center poll, for instance, Republicans were more likely than Democrats to say that having children was ‘highly important’ for living a fulfilling life, and in another, Democrats were more likely than Republicans to say that creative activities were ‘one of the most important things’ to them," Khazan said.

"Democrats, then, may be less willing to choose parenthood when it competes as a priority with career, friendships, travel, and other pursuits," she added.

The article also suggested that liberal anxiety extends beyond daily stress to include systemic worries over climate change, reproductive healthcare access and therapy-driven fears of repeating family trauma.

The Institute for Family Studies research also found that liberals report significantly higher levels of concern about parenting and their mental health.

Ken Burchfiel, an IFS research fellow who worked on the study, told Fox News Digital that where Democrats live could also help explain the difference.

"We found that partisan differences in parenting attitudes held up even when controlling for age, sex, race, household income, relationship status, education, religion, and parental status. That means that these differences aren't merely a result of diverging faith preferences or income gaps," Burchfiel said.

"The question remains, then: what is driving this change? My hypothesis is that Democrats' tendency to live in more urban areas may help explain these gaps. If you live in a small apartment in a major city, you probably are more likely to see parenting as very stressful and difficult; after all, raising a child is more expensive and complicated in the heart of an urban area than in the suburbs," he added.

Burchfiel also suggested that adults in major urban centers may have fewer daily opportunities to interact with parents and children, potentially leaving them less confident about starting families of their own.

"As a result, you might feel less confident about your own ability to be a parent. Such opportunities might continue to decline now that major cities are experiencing a drop in the numbers of children," Burchfiel added.

Overall, the number of births in the United States and the general fertility rate have decreased, according to the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics.

"One of the most important things about exercise is consistency," said the mother of seven. "For many of us, life gets in the way – we are parents, and we work and all the chaos comes in, so bite-sized movements are really important."

Baldwin revealed that her "perfect" workout routine trifecta always includes cardio, strength training and stretching, even if it’s just 10 minutes per day.

For lasting consistency, a fitness routine should fit naturally into one’s lifestyle and schedule, Baldwin said. She recommends setting aside kid-free, work-free blocks of time for movement and self-care.

Baldwin said she makes time for a daily run as her cardio, which she said helps "work out her lungs." She also incorporates stretching and strength training, which might include physically picking up her kids or toning with weights.

She has also started exercising with her children as a way to blend family time with physical activity.

The instructor emphasized consistency without overcommitment, noting that doing too much, too soon can lead to burnout.

"If something's overwhelming, we're not going to do it," Baldwin said. "Ultimately, we are going to be creatures of habit … we are going do what we feel like needs to get done – but starting to think of a workout more like brushing our teeth is really important."

"People are not moving their bodies enough, and then we get sick," she went on. "So, the question is, can we do a little bit to prevent that? And obviously not everything can be prevented, but we know that we should move our bodies most days."

Baldwin advised against "biting off more than you can chew." For example, instead of running three miles as a response to being frustrated about your fitness goals, try running for just 10 minutes – or run for just two minutes at a time and take walking breaks.

"Doing something is better than thinking about it and doing nothing," she added.

The fitness instructor also suggested making exercise a family commitment, helping to reinforce that movement and self-care are priorities.

"As moms, we [often] put ourselves last," she said. "Everybody says put your oxygen mask on first, but we don't do that."

"I think showing our children that we are human, and we are worth taking care of is really important – not just for our relationship with them, but how they will treat themselves when they're older."

When life gets busy, she said, it’s easy to make excuses for not working out. Baldwin admitted that on most days, especially in the summer heat, she has "zero interest" in going for a run.

"But I know that I'm not going to regret it," she said. "It’s just about creating the habit and saying, ‘Okay, I'm going to do this, and it's going to be 30 minutes, and I might hate it, but I’m going to be happy to do it.’"

Baldwin added, "Showing up is the hardest thing. Once you do it, and you create a commitment, it completely changes everything."

Baldwin encouraged the public, especially women, to tap into how "special and unique each person’s body is."

"Start loving yourself and loving your body, no matter what outside opinions you feel like people are directing at you," she said. "Feel capable and feel strong and that you're worth investing in."

The U.S. Supreme Court has been asked to decide if the Ten Commandments can be posted in Texas public schools.

In the coming months, the justices will decide whether or not to review a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit which found that the posting the Ten Commandments in schools is not only constitutional, but also consistent with America’s historical understanding of religion’s role in public life.

Documents and history are not banned in this country because they are religious or have religious content. Are students allowed to read the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s "Letter from Birmingham Jail"? Of course, they are.

TEXAS BOARD OF EDUCATION APPROVES REQUIRED READING LIST WITH BIBLE PASSAGES FOR 5 MILLION STUDENTS

Banning parts of our religious history and heritage is not an act of compliance with the First Amendment. It is hostility to religion and a religious cleansing, foreign to our Constitution. The First Amendment forbids the government from establishing an official state religion — something akin to the Church of England, where the state controlled doctrine, compelled worship and punished dissenters.

The Fifth Circuit’s ruling made clear that such "establishments" historically involved acts of coercion such as mandatory church attendance or legal penalties for noncompliance. Displaying a religious text on a classroom wall bears no resemblance to such practices.

A quality education must include instruction on the religious and historical heritage of our country. Without it, students cannot understand the founding rationale of our nation, nor its system of laws.

Critics argue that posting the Ten Commandments amounts to coercion, especially for impressionable students. But this claim does not withstand scrutiny. The Texas law at issue requires only that a poster be displayed. It does not mandate prayer, belief or participation in any religious activity. Students are not asked to recite the Commandments, affirm their truth or even engage with them at all. In other words, exposure is not indoctrination.

This distinction is crucial. Public education inevitably exposes students to a wide range of historical, philosophical, and, yes, religious ideas. The Constitution does not demand that schools become religion-free zones; rather, it protects against government coercion in matters of faith. As the Fifth Circuit notes, "the mere presence of religious language in a school display is [not] ipso facto religious coercion." If it were, many longstanding features of American public life, from the national motto "In God We Trust" to references to a "Creator" in the Declaration of Independence, would be constitutionally suspect.

The Founders themselves did not envision a strict separation of religion from public education. As Judge James Ho quoted President George Washington in his concurrence, they believed that "religion and morality are indispensable supports" of a free society. Just consider the U.S. Supreme Court building where the Ten Commandments are displayed both on the outer façade of the courthouse, as well as the internal courtroom itself. Do the justices need to sandblast those images from the court?

Removing all the references to the Biblical Decalogue built into the architecture of government buildings throughout Washington, D.C., would require jackhammers, chisels and high-powered sand blasters.

Allowing such displays respects both the Constitution and the nation’s heritage. It’s also good education. It acknowledges the role that religious ideas have played in shaping American law and culture, without compelling anyone to adopt those beliefs. In a pluralistic society, exposure to diverse perspectives, including religious ones, is not a threat to freedom, it is a reflection of it.

A far-left candidate running for the House of Representatives in Michigan was arrested for resisting police during a 2013 protest.

William Lawrence, co-founder of the progressive Sunrise Movement, is challenging Rep. Tom Barrett, R-Mich., in one of the most closely-watched elections in the country. With so few congressional seats still expected to be up in the air, a victory there could be decisive for whichever party wins control in November.

Fox News Digital obtained documents that show Lawrence was among a group of people arrested in 2013 during a demonstration against the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline, a 645-mile piece of infrastructure running crude oil and natural gas between Wisconsin and Ontario — with Michigan in between.

The defendants were charged with trespassing, as well as resisting and obstructing a police officer. The documents stated that Lawrence and three others had to be cut off of the equipment but were then arrested without incident.

Lawrence himself previously posted on X, "Defund the Police!" in May 2020. A tweet the following month called to defund the Lansing, Michigan, police, specifically.

He told Fox News Digital in a statement this weekend, "I don't support defunding the police. I follow the lead of first responders and gun violence prevention advocates I have met with here in the district, who support increased funding for youth programs, mental health resources, and community violence intervention, working in collaboration with law enforcement."

His campaign also pointed out the conviction was expunged under Michigan state law.

He's also since addressed the arrest himself on Instagram. He said in a video earlier this year that he "took a stand" against energy company Enbridge, adding, "Was it righteous? Absolutely. Was it wise? Perhaps not."

"The fact is, they were back operating that afternoon, while my collaborators and I faced legal consequences for years," he said. "I wouldn't advise you do what I did, but my conviction remains, and you can always count on me to fight for pure Michigan and our water."

The Senate Leadership Fund (SLF), a top GOP campaign group aligned with Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., announced that it and other allies have raised over $500 million ahead of the 2026 U.S. Senate elections, setting new records as they look to defend a Republican majority in the upcoming midterms.

Despite a historical precedent that sets long odds for the president’s party in the midterms, Republicans have built a war chest in recent months to put Democrats on the defensive in the House and Senate.

"Thanks to Leader John Thune and our generous investors, Senate Leadership Fund and its affiliated groups have raised more resources than any other Senate effort in history," SLF Executive Director Alex Latcham said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

"We expect our lawmakers to show up, yet liberal politician Josh Turek missed 58% of his votes in the Iowa legislature — votes to help veterans and fund schools, yet still collected his full taxpayer-funded paycheck," the ad states.

British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard told Fox News Digital that friends are reportedly checking in regularly on the former Duke of York and "he's certainly not hiding away" from them.

"Rather than spending the summer at Balmoral hidden away with the rest of the family, Andrew seems to be opting for time abroad with friends," she said. "Allegedly, he feels abandoned by certain family members."

"He was invited but has got no great desire to be at Balmoral as he has nothing to gain and would be treated as an outcast," the unnamed friend told the outlet. "What's the point, he feels, of going all the way there for a much-needed holiday and being treated as an elephant in the room?"

Andrew stepped away from royal duties in 2019 following a widely criticized BBC "Newsnight" interview in which he attempted to explain his friendship with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

In 2022, he was stripped of his military titles and patronages by his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, as he faced Epstein survivor Virginia Giuffre's sexual assault lawsuit against him. Andrew and Giuffre settled out of court for an undisclosed sum that year.

Giuffre died in April 2025.

In October 2025, King Charles III stripped his younger brother's royal titles as Andrew faced renewed scrutiny over his ties to Epstein. The scrutiny intensified following the publication of Giuffre's posthumous memoir and the release of documents detailing Andrew's relationship with Epstein.

Buckingham Palace also served Andrew formal notice to surrender the lease on his longtime residence, Royal Lodge. His ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, was expected to make separate living arrangements.

On Feb. 19, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office over an allegation that he shared confidential information with Epstein during his time as a U.K. trade envoy. He was released after being held for 11 hours in police custody. The investigation remains ongoing.

Andrew has repeatedly denied wrongdoing in connection with Epstein and the allegations against him.

"Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor obviously is feeling the contempt and distancing from other senior members of the royal family," royal broadcaster Ian Pelham Turner told Fox News Digital.

"So his mental health will become more prevalent. Some of his favorite activities, like riding and shooting, may have been curtailed. The ongoing police investigation is a continuous worry for him. And still, his soulmate and former wife is being distant."

"Andrew is confined to a lonely existence," Turner continued. "Allegedly, he watches a TV channel which shows planes landing as one of his new methods of relaxation."

Andrew's friend told The Sun that the disgraced ex-duke rejected the king's invitation to Balmoral Castle because he feared he would be treated as an "outcast."

Every summer, the royal family gathers at Balmoral to spend time together privately. About 30 family members are expected to join the king for the traditional gathering this year. The Sun reported that the king is not believed to have seen Andrew this year, despite at times staying only a mile away from him.

"Why would Andrew reject an olive branch from his brother?" said Turner. "There's a mixture of anger at what happened to him, a disdain for Charles, which he may see as a weak man, and, no doubt, arrogance with his belief that he can do what he wants without punitive measures taken against him. Also add to the tension with Prince William. Andrew is boxed in."

"There will never be any public restoration for Andrew at all, not now with King Charles and certainly not when Prince William ascends to the throne," said Fordwich.

"If Andrew did decline an invitation from the king, it might just be Andrew’s classic self-concern that he’d feel too awkward knowing he wasn’t wanted by the extended family at large. The only family member, I believe, who had visited Andrew was Prince Edward."

The Sun reported that Andrew’s ex-wife and their two daughters have "avoided" his new home, Marsh Farm, where he’s "lonely."

Even as Andrew becomes increasingly isolated from royal life, one royal privilege reportedly remains intact.

The Daily Mail reported that Andrew remains on a confidential government list of royal family members with funeral plans prepared in advance. The arrangements are known as "bridge plans," with plans for senior royals named after bridges in the U.K.

When Queen Elizabeth II died in 2022, "Operation London Bridge" went into action. The plan for her husband, Prince Philip, was known as "Operation Forth Bridge" when he died in 2021.

The plans are kept confidential until the royal dies, People magazine reported. According to the Daily Mail, Andrew's funeral service is expected to be held at St. George's Chapel before he is laid to rest at the Royal Burial Ground at Frogmore in Windsor.

Retired Rear Admiral Chris Parry, who captained HMS Fearless, told the Daily Mail that he believes the Royal Navy would provide volunteers to serve as pallbearers at Andrew's funeral. Andrew served in the Royal Navy from 1979 to 2001.

"... He had a Falklands medal, and you can't take that away from him, and he deserves the credit for that," said Parry. "... If somebody said to me, 'Would you do it?' I'd do it."

That's the distinction Kate Freebairn wants busy would-be bread bakers to understand.

Freebairn, a sourdough recipe developer and food blogger in rural Western Australia, says one of the biggest barriers keeping beginners away from sourdough is the perception that making it will take over their lives.

"I think that people think that sourdough is really difficult and that it takes a lot of time, but really, even though a loaf of sourdough might take three days to complete, the actual time that you'll have your hands in the dough might only be an hour," Freebairn told Fox News Digital.

Her debut cookbook, "Easy Sourdough on Any Schedule," is built around fitting bread baking into everyday life rather than fitting life around bread baking.

For someone working a typical weekday, Freebairn suggests feeding the starter before bed, mixing the dough over morning coffee and tending to it while the kids are having breakfast. The dough can ferment while its baker is at work, then be shaped and refrigerated that evening.

The next morning, "you can wake up, pop the oven on, make your coffee and bake a fresh loaf of sourdough," Freebairn said. "So, the actual time that you have your hands in the dough is very minimal."

Freebairn also points to potential health benefits as another reason to choose sourdough.

"Probably the best thing is it really does taste better," she said.

Beginners don't need a kitchen full of specialized equipment, either. Freebairn said an old pickle jar can hold a starter, and an ordinary bowl can substitute for a proofing basket. Her own Dutch oven isn't an expensive status piece.

"I literally still to this day use a $30 Dutch oven I bought from Aldi," she said.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is rolling out his own plan to address what has become a political pressure point in Texas politics during this midterm cycle: how to add guardrails to the explosion of data centers across the state as voters’ concerns rise about skyrocketing power and water costs.

The four-point plan, first obtained by Fox News Digital, details steps at the federal and state levels on the issue and comes in the waning weeks of a closely watched contest for power in the Senate between Paxton and state Sen. James Talarico, the Democratic nominee.

"While Ken Paxton funnels data center money into his campaign, James is fighting to hold data centers accountable. Texans can’t afford a Senator who’s bought by big data center companies," he continued. "Texans can’t afford Ken Paxton’s corruption."

He’s also not scot-free from receiving data center-adjacent money, either.

Talarico’s political operation, through his Lone Star Rising PAC, has received about $10 million from LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, an advocate for data centers who has argued about the value that they present in the AI arms race against China.

"While James Talarico and his campaign infrastructure accept millions of dollars from data center-affiliated donors and put their interests first, I will lead with Texans at the forefront. That’s exactly why I am proud to release my 4-Point Plan that will put Texans First and protect our communities," Paxton said.

The first three pillars of Paxton’s plan address actions against data centers at the federal level.

They would see Paxton author two bills in the Senate to prevent Chinese technology from powering data centers or being used in American infrastructure and creating criminal liabilities for data center companies if the centers empower AI chatbots that undermine children's safety.

He would also join as a co-sponsor on the DATA Act, a bill from Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., that would create a new federal category for data centers to produce their own independent power away from preexisting power grids.

Talarico’s offering would repeal state tax exemptions for data centers, mandate that data centers cover 100% of grid connection costs, and require closed-loop water recycling systems. It would also give local governments the power to veto project developments.

Paxton similarly wants to undo sales tax exemptions for data centers, something he notably supported over a decade ago while in the state legislature.

Back in 2013, when he was serving as a freshman state senator in the Texas Legislature, Paxton voted in favor of 100% sales tax exemptions for data centers, which passed on a nearly unanimous vote out of the state Senate.

While that exemption required a hefty ground-floor investment of $200 million and employment requirements to receive, it also sparked the present-day boom in data centers.

Meanwhile, at the state level, Paxton would also push Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s new directive unveiled earlier this month to effectively freeze the data center explosion.

Abbott touted earlier this week that his directive has so far halted roughly 1,800 data center projects in the Lone Star State. It requires data centers to disclose how much power they’re using and whether they will produce independent power, their water consumption, financial incentives they’ve received, a plan to lower the impact on local communities and documented ownership of the center.

"These guidelines are now the universally applied standard in Texas," Abbott said on X.

It’s become a time when parents can thrillingly announce to the world that they are so happy to dump their kids at school and make them someone else’s problem.

I’m excited for what they’ll learn and who they’ll become. But I’m also sad to see summer end because I love having them home. Parenting is hard and no one could ever be prepared for it, no matter how many books they read or other parents they talk to. We have so much responsibility on our plates that it can easily be overwhelming. Humans will make decisions based on their priorities — that’s what it all comes down to. Faith, marriage, kids, work, and hobbies all vie for the top spot, and we have to make hard decisions every day, but if those priorities are in order, it will be much easier to choose the right thing.

I’m not suggesting every parent homeschool or drop everything to spend 24 hours a day catering to their kids. I’m saying that our children are incredible gifts, and we should not be so anxious to shove them out the door and on the school bus for eight hours a day for nine or ten months of the year. Get involved in your kid’s school. Coach their rec team. Invite their friends for a movie night or ice cream or pizza-making party at your house. Go on a hike with your kids and their friends. Be present. Put your phone down. Ask questions. Say ‘yes’ more.

I was 9 years old, in my second week of middle school, 25 miles from Lower Manhattan when the world changed.

I remember being gathered on the carpeted floor of our homeroom when the principal’s aide delivered a note to our teacher. She read it to us with a perplexed look on her face, unaware that the plane she described as having been involved in a tragic accident had passed just a few miles from our school along the Hudson River only minutes earlier.

We’d soon learn this was no accident.

Nearly 3,000 people died that day. They were parents, children, spouses, friends, firefighters, police officers, office workers and travelers.

Innocent people who had simply shown up for a normal day at work were suddenly forced to make horrific decisions that no person should ever have to make.

And for countless others, the consequences of that day never ended. First responders and others exposed to the toxic air at Ground Zero have spent the decades since battling cancers, respiratory illnesses and other health problems tied to September 11.

There is no shortage of stories from that day. Some are harrowing stories of survival. Others are stories of heroism and extraordinary courage.

There was Betty Ong, the American Airlines flight attendant who helped authorities understand that Flight 11 had been hijacked. There were the passengers of Flight 93, who fought back against their hijackers and prevented the plane from reaching Washington.

There were Stanley Praimnath and Brian Clark, strangers who miraculously helped one another escape the impact zone of South Tower after it was struck. And there was Rick Rescorla, the Morgan Stanley security chief who evacuated thousands from the South Tower before returning inside to help others and never making it out himself.

We were the children who watched the towers fall and the teenagers who grew up in the shadow of the two wars that followed. We are now the parents, teachers, and citizens responsible for explaining to the next generation why September 11 mattered.

Trump's Bedminster turf could make or break his last two years in the White House

WASHINGTON, N.J. — Washington, D.C., is undoubtedly the center of gravity in American politics, but another Washington over 100 miles away could help decide the fate of Congress for the latter half of President Donald Trump's term.

It's a small town in New Jersey where Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., urged GOP supporters to help get Rep. Tom Kean Jr., R-N.J., re-elected to the House in November. Kean is seeking a third term representing the Garden State's 7th Congressional District, which is notably home to Trump's Bedminster golf course where he spends a significant amount of time.

"We consider this a top three race, not just a top 10. That's how important it is to us. It has a target on its back," Johnson told the room at Hawke Point Golf Club, Fox News Digital heard. "They're investing tons of money to try to take [Kean] down, but they are not going to be successful."

The district happens to be one of the most critical battlegrounds in the country this year. Trump narrowly won the area by two points in 2024, though it flipped for Democrat Gov. Mikie Sherrill by the same margin in 2025.

Democrats are now betting they have a real opportunity to score another victory in November by sending former Navy helicopter pilot Rebecca Bennett to the House. And with such a small number of House seats still considered politically neutral, it could prove decisive for which party controls the House next year.

Kean's morning fundraiser saw key figures in New Jersey Republican politics having breakfast as the congressman and speaker made the case for why he needs another term. Attendees included members of the Republican National Committee, local elected officials, and former Rep. Leonard Lance, the last Republican to represent Kean's district.

DEMS PICK CHALLENGER FOR GOP CONGRESSMAN WHO VANISHED FROM PUBLIC VIEW AMID HEALTH MYSTERY

If Republicans win, that means enacting Trump's agenda for another two years. Johnson told Fox News Digital the GOP has "aggressive" plans to tackle government waste and excessive spending. But if Democrats win the district — and potentially the House — Trump's goals could grind to a halt.

Kean, for his part, told Fox News Digital that he's confident he can win again.

"I've been a really effective legislator who's brought things back to the district, who's listened to my constituents on their needs and their concerns, in contrast to my opponent, who has really been a very abject partisan," Kean said on the sidelines of his event.

"She's actually stopped going to church because there are Republicans [there]. So when you think about that contrast — a person can't even go to religious services with people of the other party — she'll never work across the aisle. She'll be always in the far-left corner of whoever is in her caucus and whoever is in her leadership. And that's not what this district needs."

Bennett spokesperson Carly Jones hit back at Kean's accusation, "Rebecca is an active member of her local church and talks openly on the campaign trail about her faith, which inspired her to serve her country in uniform and run for office. She is proudly building a coalition of Democrats, Independents and Republicans to flip this seat in November."

Kean noted he's seen legislative success under both the Biden and Trump administrations, and his bipartisan efforts were on display — by what was not on display. The congressman's name appeared throughout the event, but without mention of "GOP" or "Republican." A sign outside the door only said "Tom Kean for Congress."

Conventional wisdom dictates that the party in power faces significant losses in Congress during the midterms. Critics of whoever is president generally turn out in droves to vote for the other side, in this case, Democrats.

Kean noted that he's had legislation signed into law by former President Joe Biden, but also insisted he backed Trump "fully."

"He's done great things for this country and will continue to do great things for this country. He has been a very effective leader," Kean said of the current president.

And Johnson deployed a pinch-hitter to help gin up enthusiasm on Friday: All-Star professional baseball player Mark Teixeira, who posed for photos with excited attendees. Teixeira is running his own campaign for Congress and is likely to win a safe red seat in Texas.

Republican leaders are also seizing on the far-left insurgency that's toppled establishment Democrats in recent months as evidence that they should not get control of the House.

"It's very effective because people see what's happening. This isn't campaign rhetoric. They give us new illustrations every day," Johnson told Fox News Digital in an interview. "It's a challenge to the very foundational principles of America, and that is increasingly what the Democrat Party represents... The Marxist-communist element is taking over that party, sadly, and it's really alarming for our country."

Kean was notably absent from the campaign trail and the halls of Congress from March through June this year, with few knowing the circumstances until the congressman publicly admitted he was being treated for depression. Upon his return, he introduced legislation aimed at making it easier for people to pay for mental healthcare.

Bennett did not criticize the reason for his absence but has previously accused him of continuing to trade stocks during that time. She similarly told Fox News Digital in a written statement that Kean made millions from the stock market.

"I spent 15 years serving our country in the military, and I felt called to serve once again because I can’t sit on the sidelines while Washington corruption, rising costs, and devastating healthcare cuts crush New Jersey families. Congressman Tom Kean Jr. has failed to show up for our community while trading more than $3 million worth of stocks during his time in office," she told Fox News Digital.

Linda McMahon vows crackdown on teachers sexually harassing students: 'Must end'

Secretary of Education Linda McMahon on Sunday said the federal government is committed to "cracking down" on sexual misconduct involving teachers, staff and other adults in positions of authority in schools across the country.

In an interview, McMahon denounced what she described as school districts reassigning, rather than firing, teachers accused of misconduct involving students.

"And it’s not part of their record or anything, so we have really been cracking down on that as well," she said during an appearance on CNN's "State of the Union."

McMahon, citing a 2004 Education Department literature review, said about one in 10 eighth- through 11th-grade students reported sexual misconduct by an educator. The review used a broad definition that included physical, verbal and visual conduct; the department cautioned that sexual misconduct should not be equated with the narrower legal definition of sexual abuse.

TRUMP EDUCATION DEPARTMENT PROBES SCHOOL AFTER TEACHER ALLEGEDLY REQUIRED SAME-SEX STUDENTS TO KISS

California officials at the state’s Commission on Teacher Credentialing did not revoke the licenses of at least 67 educators after school districts determined they committed sexual misconduct against students from 2019 through 2025, according to ProPublica and KQED.

At least 14 of those educators were later hired by other school districts and at least 12 of those were still working in education as of May, according to the reports.

Separately, the Department of Education in May opened a Title IX investigation into the Los Angeles Unified School District.

"Our schools must protect America’s children. Parents should never have to wonder whether their kids’ school employs and protects sexual predators," McMahon said in a previous statement. "Schools that receive federal funding have a duty to protect students, report sexual misconduct honestly, and follow the law."

The department said it was investigating an agreement with the United Teachers of Los Angeles that it said appeared to require teachers credibly accused of certain misconduct to be reassigned, rather than terminated or immediately removed from student-facing roles, while officials investigated allegations they engaged in conduct including having a sexual or romantic relationship with a student, creating child pornography or failing to report suspected child abuse.

LAUSD and UTLA disputed the department’s characterization, saying reassignment means an employee is sent home and kept away from students while an investigation proceeds, not transferred to another classroom or school. They said termination remains possible when allegations are substantiated.

McMahon said in the letter that schools that fail to comply with federal requirements under Title IX and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act risk enforcement action, including the potential termination of applicable federal assistance, pledging a nationwide effort to "crack down" on sexual misconduct by adults in positions of authority.

"Make no mistake, the Department will fully enforce federal law and employ every resource at its disposal to protect children from sexual predators," she wrote at the time. "Those schools that allow sexual misconduct to occur risk the termination of applicable federal assistance provided by the federal government."

"This epidemic of nationwide sexual abuse in our schools must end," McMahon added.
