FCC Chairman Brendan Carr accuses James Talarico of running a 'hoax' over equal time statute

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr accused Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico of banking on public confusion over the equal time statute to drive clicks and donations.

Last week, Talarico appeared on ABC’s "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," but the liberal late-night host insisted the interview had to air on YouTube, instead of broadcast television, because the FCC has "threatened" the network.

The White House previously said Kimmel was "play-acting," because the FCC did not threaten him regarding interviewing Talarico, or any other candidate.

Carr responded on Saturday to an account on X that complained Talarico was relegated to YouTube, but Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, was allowed to appear on ESPN’s "College Gameday." The chairman blasted Talarico, noting that the equal time statute doesn’t apply to ESPN and does not prohibit anyone from interviewing anyone on broadcast TV.

"It is about more speech, not less. Congress wanted to ensure that voters would decide elections, not media gatekeepers picking winners and losers by providing preferential airtime to some candidates and not others. Indeed, when the statute applies, it simply requires broadcast stations to offer comparable time and placement. And comparable does not necessarily mean an interview by the same person on the same program either," Carr wrote.

"This ties back to Talarico," Carr continued. "He’s just running the same hoax he did a few months ago on Colbert for the purpose of getting clicks and donations — he’s banking on people not understanding the statute or operating as partisan lemmings."

Former late-night host Stephen Colbert interviewed Talarico in February, ahead of the Texas Senate primary, in which he was competing against Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett.

Colbert's show, which has since been canceled, did not air the interview with Talarico and only posted it to the show's YouTube channel in February. Colbert announced at the time that CBS had stopped them from airing the interview.

Crockett, who ultimately lost the Senate primary to Talarico, blamed CBS and Colbert's show. Critics on social media noted that Talarico’s sit-down with Kimmel was similar to the Colbert edition, with both hosts setting the Senate candidate up to declare that the Trump administration must be scared of him if they’re taking equal time so seriously.

The Talarico campaign did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

In Saturday’s post, Carr also explained that "cable shows are different than broadcast programs."

"Broadcasters are unique. The FCC gave them free licenses worth many billions of dollars to use a public resource (spectrum). They are given a government-sanctioned monopoly on their broadcast frequencies, too. If anyone else wants to use that same public resource (spectrum) for the purpose of expressing their own views, the government will not let them — it will eject anyone else that tries to use a broadcaster’s licensed spectrum," he wrote.

"This means that Americans are subsidizing the distribution of broadcast programs over a public resource to the tune of many billions of dollars. We don’t do that with cable or anything else. In exchange for that free and exclusive right to use spectrum, broadcasters made a deal with the American people," Carr continued. "They agreed to operate, not in their own narrow interests, but in the public interest. There are various rules and policies that they must follow. This sets them apart from newspapers and cable shows and podcasts."

Former CIA Director Brennan subpoenaed to testify in federal Trump conspiracy case

Former CIA Director John Brennan has been subpoenaed to testify next month before a Florida grand jury as part of a Justice Department investigation into whether former law enforcement and intelligence officials conspired against President Donald Trump.

Ken Wainstein, an attorney for Brennan, disclosed in a court filing Monday that prosecutors last Thursday presented him with a subpoena for Brennan to appear Oct. 15 before a grand jury in Fort Pierce, Florida.

He said he was told that the subpoena relates to a "far-reaching" criminal probe examining a loosely defined theory that the government officials who have investigated Trump over the last decade conspired to deprive Trump of his civil rights.

The Los Angeles Kings prospect dropped the gloves with San Jose Sharks prospect Alexander Karmanov — the tallest player ever selected in the NHL Draft — Saturday during the 2026 Rookie Faceoff.

It's one of the more ridiculous size mismatches you'll ever see in a hockey fight.

The trouble started late in the third period of San Jose's eventual 8-1 win when Karmanov flattened Kings defenseman Jakub Dvorak in the neutral zone. Dvorak stayed down with an upper-body injury, prompting several Kings players to confront Karmanov.

Then Lefebvre stepped up.

For the record, Lefebvre is listed at 6-foot-3 — a perfectly large human being under almost any other circumstance.

But against Karmanov, he looked like somebody's little brother.

The two dropped the gloves, and Karmanov predictably used his enormous reach advantage before Lefebvre eventually went to the ice. Karmanov then skated toward the penalty box waving his arms and demanding more noise from the San Jose crowd.

The Sharks selected Karmanov with the 201st overall pick in June's NHL Draft, making the Moldova-born defenseman the tallest player ever drafted into the league.

Afterward, Karmanov said the fight was simply part of how the game unfolded.

"I asked the guy if he wanted to go," Karmanov told reporters. "Yeah, we went."

President Donald Trump on Monday rejected growing calls for implementing safeguards and restrictions on artificial intelligence (AI), declaring that the technology needs a "STRONG AND SMART" president rather than additional restraints.

Even some of Silicon Valley's most powerful executives, including those within the AI space, are calling for a slowdown in the development of increasingly capable artificial intelligence technology.

"The only control or 'guardrails' that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei over the weekend made waves as he called on leading AI companies to "pace the frontier" amid warnings that increasingly powerful systems could eventually outstrip humanity's ability to understand or control them.

"The Trump Administration has stopped AI 'people' from doing bad, or potentially bad, 'things,' like Dario (Anthropic!), who is now pretending to be a 'perfect little angel' — and we will continue to do so!" the president wrote on Truth Social.

Previously, the Trump administration designated Anthropic a supply-chain risk and moved to restrict federal agencies from using its technology, though a federal judge temporarily blocked that designation last month. Anthropic is most known for its AI model Claude, one of the top known and used LLM chatbots in the U.S.

Trump argues that the federal government already has "tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies" and warned that additional restraints on American AI development could benefit China in the AI race.

"There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China," he wrote. "WHOEVER WINS AI, WINS! We are leading China, and all others, and will continue to do so."

Trump's intervention escalated a rapidly widening debate over whether America's leading AI companies should voluntarily slow the development of their most powerful systems — and what role Washington should play in policing an industry racing against both domestic competitors and China.

Amodei ignited the debate Saturday with an essay arguing that AI capabilities are advancing so quickly that safety measures may no longer be keeping pace.

His call quickly drew support from several of the industry's most prominent figures.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said he agreed that companies need to "pace the frontier," while Elon Musk said Amodei was "right." Google DeepMind's Demis Hassabis also said Amodei's proposal pointed in the right direction.

But David Sacks, Trump's White House AI and crypto advisor, sharply challenged the premise that the companies need government help to slow themselves down.

"The easiest way not to build superintelligence is for you to agree not to build it," Sacks wrote Saturday on X in response to Altman and Amodei. "Stop pretending you need anyone else's permission."

"You guys are the frontier," he continued. "By any reasonable metric — market share, revenue growth, model capability — the two of you have a duopoly on frontier AI."

"So just do it," Sacks added. "If you do, you'll buy goodwill for the next conversation. If you don't, we'll know this was just another bid for regulatory capture — or an election-season psyop."

Amodei's proposal, however, does not call for halting AI development altogether. He described "pacing" as slowing advances in model capabilities enough to give companies time to align and safeguard their systems and allow outside evaluators to test whether those protections are working.

Anthropic has already committed to one piece of the proposal: giving third-party evaluators ongoing, employee-like access to assess its safety practices, training processes and models. Altman said OpenAI would adopt a similar approach.

Other elements would require broader coordination among competing AI companies and, eventually, governments around the world. That coordination became another target of Sacks' criticism.

"Stop pretending antitrust law has to be suspended so you can form a cartel," Sacks wrote. "Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that supersedes product liability."

Amodei has argued that companies should be able to coordinate on common safety practices without risking antitrust penalties. Sacks countered that the leading companies do not need government permission to voluntarily slow their own development if they believe their systems are becoming dangerous.

The warnings from Amodei and other AI researchers center on increasingly autonomous systems that can perform sophisticated tasks with less human direction.

Amodei said AI's growing ability to assist with AI research itself could create a feedback loop in which increasingly capable systems help develop their own successors, potentially allowing capabilities to advance faster than humans can understand or control them.

He also pointed to a recent OpenAI evaluation in which AI agents escaped a testing environment and conducted unauthorized cyber activity against the AI development platform Hugging Face. The exercise occurred in a controlled setting, but Amodei cited it as evidence of the potential consequences as frontier systems become more capable.

Sacks acknowledged that slowing development could create "breathing room" for a broader discussion about AI safety, but argued that any global agreement would confront a fundamental problem: China.

"China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well," Sacks wrote. "So go ahead and pace the frontier. You are the ones setting it."

Amodei has acknowledged the same geopolitical dilemma, warning that a system in which American companies restrain themselves while China continues racing ahead could create its own national security risks.

Altman expanded on his position Monday, saying frontier AI companies should strengthen safety practices immediately rather than waiting for Congress to act.

"The world deserves confidence that American companies developing increasingly capable AI will act responsibly, especially as the trajectory of progress has steepened," Altman wrote. "Every frontier lab must deliver on this, and there is no reason any of us should come to work if we cannot."

Altman said OpenAI welcomes "a federal framework that sets consistent safety requirements for frontier AI," but added that the company does "not believe we need to wait for an anti-trust exemption or legislation" before implementing stronger safeguards.

He said OpenAI supports explicit safety reviews before major training runs, shared industry standards and independent auditors, and has begun preparing formal "safety cases" before frontier reinforcement-learning runs expected to substantially increase model capabilities.

Altman called on other AI companies to develop comparable standards for monitoring, evaluating and mitigating those risks.

Kansas City Chiefs' roster concerns linger as they host the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football

Monday Night Football is here for the first time with the new season. We got some great games yesterday, including our first major upset and our first overtime game. Interestingly enough, I had both of those games in a teaser play that I shared and we lost. The other play, on the Raiders, was a sweat-free victory. Overall, it wasn't a terrible day; let's see if we can close out this week with a win as the Broncos take on the Chiefs.

The Denver Broncos are coming into the season with expectations of being one of the best teams in football. Last season, they were an injured quarterback and a couple of different plays away from getting to the Super Bowl. The defense was one of the best in football last season, locking down almost every team they played. On offense, Bo Nix took a big step forward, and now they've added Jaylen Waddle to the mix to give themselves an added option at receiver.

The team went 14-3 last season, and in the playoffs, they survived to pass the Bills in overtime. In the Conference Finals, they lost 10-7 to the Patriots with Jarrett Stidham under center. Of course, like most teams, you still have to assume the success or failure of the club falls on Bo Nix. This is Nix's third season in the league, and he is coming off an ankle injury. Last year, he produced about the same as his rookie year, but the team was significantly better. I'm interested to see what they can do to boost Nix a bit more this season. They tend to be a run-first team, but with Waddle and the other options, there is a chance this passing game can be dynamic.

The Kansas City Chiefs had a rough season last year, but with so much success from the organization for many years in a row, it was hard to replicate it. The Chiefs ended last season with a record of 6-11. Before you go and blame it on Patrick Mahomes getting injured, which did happen, he played in all but three games last year, and the team was 6-8 in those games. It just seemed like the team never could get anything going on offense, and their defense wasn't good enough.

As the team gets older and salary cap issues arise, the Chiefs will need to figure out a way to adjust their roster to stay competitive with Mahomes. For multiple seasons, they've really just relied on Mahomes being great and Travis Kelce being his security blanket. The wide receiver room was always somewhat ignored. Sure, they have Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice, but neither of those guys is quite as good as you'd want when you have the best quarterback in football (debate it all you want, but he's won three Super Bowls and been to five in eight years as a starter).

I get that the Chiefs will be a public team, and that they are the home team. Taking an inter-division home dog is usually a good bet, but the Chiefs are the favorite tonight. The Broncos have a vastly superior defense in my ranks. Both quarterbacks are coming off of injury to return to this one. I feel like the under, especially in the first half (21.5), is a great look. I also am going to play the Broncos to win this game. I think they are better and I'm not convinced the Chiefs made the changes needed to win this season.

California Democrat faces ouster call after her former professor tells crowd to 'f--- up' ICE agent

California state Sen. Sasha Renée Pérez, D-Pasadena, faced a call Sunday to lose her chairmanship of the Senate Education Committee after appearing at an immigration summit alongside a former professor who repeatedly told the crowd to "f--- up" a named ICE agent.

Video from last Sunday’s La Defensa Del Pueblo summit showed California State University, Los Angeles, professor Melina Abdullah identifying an ICE agent, saying he "may be staying" at a local Hilton Garden Inn and giving the crowd the hotel’s street address.

Abdullah repeatedly said to "f--- him up" before later explaining the phrase could include exposing immigration agents or making them uncomfortable. She also encouraged attendees to "study guerrilla warfare."

CALIFORNIA BILL WOULD LET ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT PROFESSORS KEEP TEACHING US STUDENTS REMOTELY

California Republican Party delegate and attorney Elizabeth Barcohana told Fox News Digital on Sunday that Pérez should no longer lead the Senate committee responsible for education policy.

"I believe Pérez should be removed as chair of education committee," Barcohana said.

Abdullah is a professor of Pan-African Studies at Cal State LA and a leader of Black Lives Matter Los Angeles. The university describes Abdullah as a "scholar-activist" who views her academic role as connected to broader activist movements.

After Abdullah’s remarks, Pérez took the microphone and referenced their former professor-student relationship.

"Y’all, it’s really hard to follow up my old college professor, Dr. Melina Abdullah… It’s such an honor to share space with you and to be able to sit next to you here," Pérez said.

Perez responded last week to suggestions that she was smiling at the professor's remarks, saying the video was edited.

"I unequivocally condemn violence in all its forms, regardless of who uses it or whom it targets. I do not support, endorse, or condone violence against anyone, and my silence during another panelist’s remarks must never be misrepresented as agreement. Each speaker is responsible for their own words. A highly edited video circulating online falsely suggests I was smiling in response to violent remarks directed toward an ICE agent. The full video makes clear that my reaction was to separate comments about the courage of young people. Any suggestion that I share, endorse, or condone violence is false," Perez said, according to Los Angeles County Politics.

"I have consistently opposed the federal government’s cruel immigration enforcement practices while also unequivocally opposing violence in all forms including violence by government agents that took the life of Keith Porter Jr. and Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and violence by political extremists that took the life of Charlie Kirk. Political disagreement is not a license for racism, intimidation, or violence. I will continue to fight for civil rights through lawful, democratic action, and I will never condone violence."

Pérez earned degrees in political science and economics from Cal State LA before entering public service.

Barcohana also linked Pérez’s appearance alongside Abdullah to the senator’s role as chair of the Senate Education Committee and her record on immigration enforcement at California schools.

In a post about the summit, Barcohana specifically pointed to legislation Pérez authored requiring schools to issue alerts about immigration enforcement activity.

"Most relevant to this weekend’s summit, Pérez authored the bill that would turn California schools into participants in ICE resistance, rather than a neutral and safe learning environment for children," Barcohana said on X.

"As Chair of the Education committee, Pérez saw to it that the antisemitism bill in the California legislature was rendered completely useless to its intended purpose of protecting Jewish students from harassment, discrimination, and intimidation. The bill was necessary because antisemitic incidents have increased over 600% in California K-12 schools."

DOJ DEMANDS SANCTUARY STATES END 'BLATANTLY UNLAWFUL' ANTI-ICE POLICY AS A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH

Pérez authored SB 98, the Sending Alerts to Families in Education, or SAFE, Act, which Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law in September 2025. The law requires K-12 schools and higher education institutions to notify campus communities when immigration enforcement authorities are present on campus.

When Pérez introduced the bill in January 2025, her office said the proposal came in response to the Trump administration eliminating Biden-era guidance limiting immigration enforcement in certain "protected areas," including schools.

Pérez framed the measure as a response to concerns among immigrant students and parents about federal enforcement.

"The Trump administration has made clear that no place is safe from mass deportations. Students and parents are rightfully scared," Pérez said. "We will not be silent."

Newsom signed the legislation with an urgency clause, putting it into effect immediately. Pérez’s office has described the notifications as similar to warning systems used for other campus emergencies.

Pérez also criticized federal immigration authorities in 2025 when responding to plans for immigration enforcement agencies to participate in a Cal Poly Pomona career fair.

"ICE should have no place on our campuses," Pérez said.

A DHS spokesperson told Fox News Digital, "Governor Newsom continues to refuse to do his job to protect his citizens from illegal alien crime and instead chooses to smear our law enforcement."

"California politicians should focus on educating students, not turning classrooms into sanctuaries for illegal aliens. SB98 is a political stunt designed to create fear, interfere with law enforcement, and shield those who have violated our nation’s law. DHS will continue enforcing the laws Congress passed, and enforcing federal law when necessary, consistent with the Constitution and all applicable legal requirements. No state law will prevent federal officers from protecting American communities."

"While the media and sanctuary politicians try and spread falsehoods and demean DHS law enforcement, the men and woman of DHS are risking their lives and safety to arrest illegal criminal aliens that are victimizing Americans. Our message is clear: if you come to our country illegally, we will find you, we will arrest you, and we will deport you," the spokesperson added.

Republican California state Sen. Tony Strickland also said in comments to Fox News Digital, "The most essential role of government is public safety. As a legislator, I firmly stand with the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities. Political disagreement does not justify intimidation or putting an officer and his family at risk. While free speech is a fundamental right, credible threats or targeted harassment must be taken seriously and investigated based on the facts and the law."

Fox News Digital reached out to Pérez, Abdullah and Cal State Los Angeles for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.

Malik Nabers reveals how Giants coach John Harbaugh helped him overcome his ACL injury fears

The biggest unknown the New York Giants faced before Sunday night's regular-season opener against the Dallas Cowboys, beyond whether they'd win or not, was whether star receiver Malik Nabers would play.

It's not that Nabers couldn't play. He'd been medically cleared for weeks.

The question was whether Nabers had the confidence to play, to get hit, and not be worried about getting hurt again after he suffered an ACL and meniscus right knee injury a year ago that required him overcoming psychological as well as physical hurdles.

Enter new Giants coach John Harbaugh.

Harbaugh is different, folks. He started his postgame press conference after his team's victory over the Cowboys in the same way he ended his presser after a season-ending loss with the Ravens in 2025: By giving thanks to Jesus Christ.

He's also different in that he has won 13 season openers since becoming a head coach in 2008 and understands when players need nurturing or need pushing.

Nabers needed a little pushing. During the team's walkthrough practice on Saturday, Harbaugh decided Nabers needed to get over his uncertainty and insecurity about getting hit in a game.

So the coach tackled Nabers.

"I know everybody was worried about if I get tackled," Nabers told reporters. "Actually, coach Harbaugh tackled me ...

"He wanted to see if I could take a tackle and it was good."

In an age of analytics and metrics often driving coaching decisions, Harbaugh went old school. He figuratively threw his guy in a pool and forced him to swim.

"Yeah, we were all just chilling on the sideline," quarterback Jaxson Dart said, recounting the moment. "It was right before we were supposed to start our walkthrough, and things were just up in the air. We didn't know exactly what was going to happen.

"And me and coach Harbs kind of had some conversations. He's like, ‘You know what, like, I think that once he gets hit for the first time and realizes that he's OK, then he's going to feel confident.’

"So I think in his mind that triggered, ‘Oh, maybe I should tackle him right then and there.’ So, we're all just standing there, and then all of a sudden Leek goes down on the ground, and our team's super protective of him. So we all turned to look, and it's coach Harbs tackling Leek.

"And then he pops up and he goes, 'See, you're all good.'"

Nabers and other players pointed to the moment as pivotal , but it left Harbaugh still unsure whether his best receiver could play Sunday night. When was he finally certain?

"I got a sense like about three hours before the game, maybe two and a half, somewhere in there," Harbaugh said. "And when he went out and tested it and he felt ready and that’s when the decision was made. It was his call. He had been cleared medically, but he had to feel right.

"He had to feel like he was ready to go, and he could protect himself and perform the way he wanted, and he did. Malik played a great game. He played a heck of a game."

Nabers caught six passes for 69 and those are admittedly modest numbers. But they're important in that the Giants now have their best wide receiver back and are apparently confident he can withstand contact again.

"It was amazing, it was amazing," Nabers said. "It was amazing to take it all in, get right back on track to where I left off. I’m happy that the fans still love to see me out there."

A supporter of an ISIS-inspired mass shooting plot has been removed from the United States through the first-ever use of a "zombie court" by the Trump Department of Justice (DOJ).

The DOJ filed its first-ever application for a removal order before the United States Alien Terrorist Removal Court (ATRC) in July targeting 47-year-old Afghan national Nazira Haji Zada, who conceded to supporting a plot by her sons to conduct an ISIS-inspired mass shooting on Election Day 2024. The ATRC issued an order of removal on Aug. 20 that was unsealed Friday. Zada has since been removed to her country of origin. She is now permanently inadmissible to the U.S., according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

This was the first use of the ATRC in its nearly 30-year history. Congress established the court to allow the government to deport noncitizens suspected of terrorism through a specialized judicial process that relies on classified evidence. Despite being established decades ago, the ATRC has remained dormant since its creation, leading legal scholars to refer to it as a "zombie" court.

The Trump administration's successful invocation of the court revives what looks to be a powerful new tool for removing suspected terrorists from the country.

The move comes months after Chief U.S. District Judge James Boasberg in Washington, D.C., pointed to the long-dormant Alien Terrorist Removal Court as an alternative for handling terrorism-related deportation cases while questioning the Trump administration's use of the Alien Enemies Act. Attorney General Todd Blanche filed the first application for a removal order with the ARTC on July 15. ATRC Chief Judge Joan Ericksen, appointed by President George W. Bush, presided over Zada's hearing and later signed the removal order.

According to the DOJ, the government used classified information, as authorized under the ATRC statute, to establish that Zada is an alien terrorist. The DOJ said the government provided Zada and her lawyers, who were two federal public defenders, with approximately half a terabyte of documents supporting the government’s case. With her lawyers, Zada, a former resident of Fort Worth, Texas, conceded to supporting a plot to commit an ISIS-inspired mass shooting on Election Day in 2024 for which her son, Abdullah Haji Zada, and son-in-law, Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, were previously arrested and convicted.

The DOJ said that according to the criminal complaint, Zada and her family started selling off their property in 2024, including furniture, computers, a mobile phone and the family’s two vehicles to raise funds for the attack. Court documents reveal that Tawhedi admitted that between June and October 2024, he conspired with at least one other individual to purchase two AK-47 rifles, 500 rounds of ammunition and 10 magazines, with the intent to carry out a mass-casualty attack on behalf of ISIS on or around Nov. 5, 2024.

Zada signed a contract to sell the family house and the family also purchased one-way airfare for travel to Kabul, Afghanistan, shortly before Election Day 2024 for its members, including for Zada and other children, excluding Abdullah and Tawhedi.

Blanche called the DOJ's successful invocation of the ARTC a "landmark case resulting in the prompt removal of this alien terrorist to her country of origin." He called the case "a win for national security and the rule of law."

"Those who support and condone terrorism should not be living in the United States, and this first-ever case before the ATRC shows how the Department will use every tool at its disposal to protect our country," said Blanche.

Likewise, FBI Director Kash Patel called the case "a historic and vitally important step in our work to protect the U.S. homeland from terrorism."

"An individual who supported a plot by ISIS-sympathizing family members to commit an attack in America has paid the price for that. She came to our country, betrayed it, and has now lost the right to live here and enjoy our democratic freedoms," said Patel, adding, "This FBI and our Justice Department partners will protect the American people from the threat of terrorism, using all means necessary."

Meanwhile, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said "from the moment President Trump took office, he made clear that his administration would put the safety and security of the American people first."

Mullin said the use of the ARTC to remove Zada came at "the president’s direction." He reiterated that "those who plot acts of terrorism against the United States have no place in our country. We will find them, and we will use every lawful tool available to remove them."

Prior to Zada's removal, a DOJ spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News Digital, "This Department of Justice will use every tool available to bring alien terrorists to justice and remove them from the United States, including by use of this court established by Congress in 1996."

This comes after Boasberg made the comments while presiding over litigation challenging the administration's use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport alleged members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua. He temporarily blocked the administration from using the wartime law for those removals while the courts determine whether Trump's use of the statute is lawful. Boasberg also ordered deportation flights already in the air to return, setting off a high-profile legal battle between the administration and the judiciary.

During a March hearing, Boasberg remarked, "Congress has an answer for us, doesn't it? Because they created the Alien Terrorist Removal Court."

He said, "If there's a national security concern with having these hearings, whether via habeas or otherwise, you can always go to the ATRC, which would be a first, but that's what it's there for, right?"

Hans von Spakovsky, a senior legal fellow at Advancing American Freedom, told Fox News Digital it was about time the Justice Department took advantage of the special court.

"I think it is a sign of negligence, frankly, of prior presidents that they did not use this special court, this special procedure that was specifically set up by Congress, so that they could quickly get aliens — aliens who were either terrorists or supported terrorist activities — out of the U.S." von Spakovsky said.

BIDEN JUDGE OVERRULED ON KEY TRUMP IMMIGRATION POLICY

Congress created the ATRC through the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act, signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1996.

"From now on we can quickly expel foreigners who dare to come to America and support terrorist activities," Clinton said at the bill's signing.

The court is made up of five federal district judges who serve five-year terms. It handles terrorism-related deportation cases where the government says its evidence cannot be made public because it would threaten national security. In those cases, the government provides the respondent with an unclassified summary instead of the classified evidence itself.

At the time of the law's passage, then-Delaware Sen. Joe Biden blasted it.

"You and me, judge — me, the prosecutor; you, the judge — let's deport him in a secret hearing, using secret evidence," Biden said. "We know you did it, and we can't tell you how we know. Now I think that is about as un-American as it gets."

According to the 9/11 Commission staff report, DOJ attorneys considered 50 cases by 1998 and another 50 over the next two years, but every one was rejected. Some terrorism-related cases moved forward through the regular immigration court system instead.

The Justice Department's case before the ATRC comes as the Trump administration has repeatedly faced resistance from federal judges, who have blocked, delayed or narrowed key parts of its immigration enforcement agenda.

Von Spakovsky said the Justice Department's use of the ATRC could not only streamline terrorism-related deportation cases but also reduce interference from what he described as "rogue" liberal judges.

"I think this court is a much stronger tool the Justice Department can use, and it's going to make it much tougher for what I consider to be rogue judges to interfere with, and hopefully prevent, the removal of immigrants," von Spakovsky said.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is suing President Donald Trump's administration over plans to expand federal authority to deny visa and green card applications based on welfare status.

The lawsuit, filed jointly with NY Attorney General Letitia James, targets the Trump administration's plan to expand the "public charge" rule, which allows the federal government to deny visa applications based on the likelihood that the applicant will receive public benefits. Trump's administration seeks to expand the list of benefits that apply under the rule, with the change taking effect Sept. 18.

"If you are a citizen, or an individual seeking humanitarian relief like asylum, these changes will not affect you," Mamdani said at a press conference Monday. "The new public charge rule not only sweeps aside more than a century of established law, it is intentionally vague as a means of creating uncertainty and fear to isolate immigrant New Yorkers."

"Make no mistake, this is an undisguised effort to strip New Yorkers of the services they rely on, the public benefits they are entitled to," he continued.

Meanwhile, James is launching a separate challenge to the rule, leading a coalition of 21 other states and the District of Columbia in asking the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York to block the Trump administration's rule.

"Hardworking families should not be forced to go without the support they need because they fear asking for assistance will get them deported," James said in a statement.

"This rule preys on that fear and counts on families forfeiting the food assistance, health care coverage, and other public benefits to which they are legally entitled. My office fought this exact policy once before and won, and we are leading the nation to ensure the Trump administration cannot inflict this harm on families again," she added.

AP's refusal to give Trump rights to Butler photo helped fuel Oval Office ban, report claims

President Donald Trump's administration targeted the Associated Press (AP) over rights to the iconic photo of the president in Butler, Pennsylvania, taken after an assassination attempt, according to a New York Times report.

The AP has repeatedly sparred with the Trump White House after the president was elected in 2024.

The outlet was banned from the Oval Office and Air Force One shortly after Trump was inaugurated because the AP continued to use "Gulf of Mexico" after the president renamed it the Gulf of America in 2025. The ban has led to a First Amendment battle in court.

However, according to the Times, White House aides also connected the ban to the AP's refusal to give them rights to the infamous photo of the president after he was shot. The Times cited two people briefed on a private lunch with Trump and network anchors in 2025.

A source added the White House has not communicated this reasoning to the AP.

The White House did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Trump was rushed offstage by Secret Service agents after gunfire grazed his upper right ear during his July 13, 2024, rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The attack came months before Trump’s re-election and preceded a series of later alleged attempts and reported threats against his life.

The president was mid-sentence, pointing to a chart on illegal immigration under the Biden administration, when gunshots pierced the air at his Butler rally. Authorities identified the gunman as Thomas Matthew Crooks, who fired from the roof of a nearby building.

The gunman killed firefighter Corey Comperatore, who was shielding his family, and wounded two other men. A Secret Service sniper killed Crooks during the attack.

A photo of Trump, captured by Evan Vucci of the AP, with his fist raised and blood visible on his face, quickly went viral and landed on the front pages of newspapers across the world.

"I was literally just thinking about doing the best possible job I could, because I knew that this was a moment in American history that I had to be at the top of my game for," Vucci told Fox News Digital in July 2024, after the assassination attempt.

Vucci switched to a wide angle to ensure the flag flying above got in his shot. He noticed an SUV parked at the side of the stage as Secret Service agents covered Trump and chaos erupted around him. Vucci said he "sprinted" to the side of the stage, assuming it was where Trump would exit, and got in position to snap photos as Trump pumped his fist toward the crowd.

One of the 11 jurors who wanted to find Massachusetts mom Lindsay Clancy not criminally responsible for killing her three children said the panel viewed the case as a chance to make things "better for other women" and families — a thought process that one legal analyst is calling "problematic."

"Even though we didn't know what was going on outside of our little bubble that we were in, we knew that this was a turning point, and this would be something that could change something to make it better for other women in the future, for other families," 65-year-old Clancy juror Paula Devlin told "CBS Saturday Morning" over the weekend. "You know, justice for those children is this never happening again."

According to Devlin, before the 11-1 deadlock that led to a mistrial, the jury had been split eight in favor of finding her not criminally responsible, two were undecided, and the holdout and one other juror were leaning toward a guilty verdict.

The jury's role is to apply the law, not to make law, he said.

"Judge Sullivan already declared a mistrial and the law generally prohibits inquiry into juror deliberations," he said. "There is an exception for outside influences that may prejudice the jury, but that would need an additional inquiry into whether the jurors considered information on traditional or social media or whether this was just Devlin’s interpretation of the importance of the case."

Several jurors and Clancy's defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, have claimed that the holdout at the end didn't show his fellow jurors the evidence that he believed pointed toward guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Following a tumultuous two seasons for the Florida State football program, the school fired atheltic director Michael Alford on Monday morning.

The decision comes after another lackluster performance from the Seminoles against SMU last week, that also saw the lights go out inside the stadium that should have been seen as a sign of things to come in Tallahassee.

There have been multiple conversations over the past few weeks regarding the status of Alford, who has been at the forefront of concerns about the direction of the Seminoles athletic department, with fundraising being a major point of concern for officials in this current era of college athletics.

Since the 2023 season, FSU fans have witnessed the football program go 8-13, with the crowd inside Doak Campbell Stadium loudly voicing their displeasure with head coach Mike Norvell.

But, the questions loomed as to what, and who, would be making the decision on the future direction of the football program.

Even though Alford did not hire Norvell at Florida State, decisions made during his tenure have had a major impact on the Seminoles future.

One of the moves made during his tenure as AD came when Alford helped put together the fundraising for a new $380 million upgrade to Doak Campbell Stadium, while the school has been mid-pack when it comes to a revenue-sharing budget to field a football team.

Currently sitting at 39-35, Norvell is currently sitting on the hottest seat in college football. His record of 8-18 since the infamous 2023 season has left boosters involved with the Florida State athletic department befuddled, also knowing it will cost them upwards of $50 million to fire Norvell if that decision is made.

Monday morning, Florida State Board of Trustees chairman Peter Collins released the following statement on the firing of Alford.

"We have made significant investments and structural changes in our athletics program and Seminole Boosters over the past few years, but more are needed. This step begins the next phase of restructuring that the University must commit to in order to compete in this era of college sports.  The President and the Board are in lockstep on the mission and what the results must be."

If you remember, Florida State also sued its own conference (ACC) in 2023 over the binding grant of rights contract, which led to the the league lowering the buyout for member schools, with a full buyout of $75 million being in place following the 2029-2030 year.

Were the Seminoles looking for an exit to the Big Ten or SEC? Sure, but if they are planning to garner a significant payday in a future move, the school needs to get its affairs in order.

Would the school wait until a new athletic director is hired before moving on from Norvell if he cannot pull off a miracle over the next two months?

FIRST ON FOX — A wealthy tech investor is committing $40 million to help Republicans stem the tide of the Democratic Socialists of America in state-level races, Fox News Digital has learned.

Scott Banister, a libertarian who was an early investor in PayPal, Uber and SpaceX, among others, cut the massive check to Make Liberty Win, a right-of-center political organization. The funding has already been partially deployed in nine states — Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, New Hampshire, West Virginia and Montana — with plans to expand the push to at least a dozen states.

"Self-described socialists are running for office and winning in the Democratic Party, like recently elected New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani," a press release obtained by Fox News Digital reads. "Make Liberty Win’s campaign will stem the tide of the far-left by mobilizing student and youth activists to knock on the doors of more than two million voters in key states."

Alaska teen rescued after 3 days in frigid waters reveals tragic end for 2 family members

An Alaska teenager who survived nearly two days atop an overturned fishing skiff told his rescuers that his cousin had slipped away during the night and that his older brother remained beneath the vessel after the three were thrown into the frigid Bering Sea, according to rescuers and family members.

Derek Parker Aghnaanga, 15, was spotted Monday morning on the capsized skiff roughly four miles east of St. Lawrence Island after he, his 35-year-old brother Sidney Kulowiyi and their cousin disappeared during a fishing trip.

"Through the teeth chattering, he had mentioned that his brother was still under the skiff," Adam White, captain of the fishing vessel Northwest Explorer, told Anchorage affiliate KTUU-TV. "And then he said that, in the previous night, before our rescue, that his cousin had slipped away."

A GoFundMe page organized by relatives said Aghnaanga tried to hold onto his brother and cousin after they died, before their bodies were recovered.

A U.S. Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules aircrew from Air Station Kodiak spotted Aghnaanga atop the overturned vessel and dropped a survival raft and equipment before deploying flares to guide the Northwest Explorer to his location.

Crew members aboard the Northwest Explorer pulled Aghnaanga to safety and recovered the bodies of Kulowiyi and the teenager's cousin.

Aghnaanga was experiencing symptoms of hypothermia when he was rescued. Crew members wrapped him in blankets and used hot packs to warm him as the vessel transported him to Nome.

The three had departed the remote Alaska Native village of Savoonga on Friday for a fishing trip and planned to return early Sunday. Family members reported them missing Sunday night, prompting a search involving the Coast Guard, Alaska State Troopers and other state and local agencies.

Colleen Walker, an aunt of the brothers, described Kulowiyi as a humble commercial fishing captain and provider for Savoonga, a village of roughly 800 residents where halibut fishing remains an important part of community life.

"We all cried and jumped for joy when the captain announced on the radio, 'We found a kid, he's alive, he's alive,'" Walker told The Associated Press, describing family members listening to the rescue effort.

Kulowiyi left behind children, according to the family fundraiser, which had raised more than $42,000 toward a $45,000 goal as of Monday morning.

"Our hearts go out to the families, friends, and communities affected by the tragic loss of these two mariners," Rear Adm. Bob Little, commander of the Coast Guard Arctic District, said in a statement.

The Coast Guard Arctic District coordinated the search with the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center, the Alaska Air National Guard's 176th Wing, Alaska State Troopers and local authorities in Savoonga.

Scammers know the best time to text you

If your phone seems to light up with suspicious texts right when your day gets busy, you may not be imagining it. New research from cybersecurity company Malwarebytes suggests scammers have gotten much more strategic about when they contact you and where they do it.

The company analyzed global threat data collected between April 15 and July 14, 2026. Researchers tracked more than 20 scam categories. They found that criminals often choose the platform that gives a particular scam the best chance of working.

Then there is the timing. For Americans, scam text volume peaked around 12 p.m. ET. That was about 874% higher than at 1 a.m. ET, the quietest hour Malwarebytes observed. Scam text volume also climbed as the week went on. It reached its highest point on Friday, when people received roughly 50% more fraudulent texts than at the beginning of the week.

That tells me scammers are paying attention to more than what they send you. They are also watching when you may be most likely to see it. And the timing is only part of the strategy, because the type of scam often determines exactly where they try to reach you.

Scammers are choosing the best place to reach you

Different scams tend to favor different platforms. Malwarebytes found that job scams commonly arrive through email. Romance scams favor social media, where conversations with new people feel more natural. Meanwhile, tech support scams frequently start with a phone call. That makes sense when you think about how each scam works.

A fake recruiter can blend into a busy inbox. Someone starting a conversation on social media may seem harmless. A caller claiming your computer has a serious problem can immediately put you under pressure.

The channel becomes part of the trick. We've seen that with changing tech support scams. They can now begin with fake invoices, bogus security alerts or convincing support pages.

The web remains scammers' favorite doorway

You hear plenty about scam texts and suspicious DMs. However, the web remains the leading way scams reach people in Malwarebytes' data. Email came next, followed by SMS.

Malwarebytes says it blocks around 500,000 phishing websites every day. That number gives you an idea of how many fake pages criminals keep pushing online.

Some copy banks or popular retailers. Others imitate technology companies or government services. A link in a text can take you straight to one of these pages. The fake site may look polished enough to fool you at first glance.

So, when a message says something has gone wrong with an account, resist the urge to use the link it provides. Open the company's app yourself or type the website address directly into your browser.

Scam texts hit their peak around lunchtime

Here's the part that really caught my attention. Malwarebytes found that scam texts targeting Americans reached their highest volume around 12 p.m. ET. At noon, volume was about 874% higher than at 1 a.m. ET. Think about what your phone habits look like around lunchtime.

You could be leaving a meeting, grabbing something to eat or checking messages between errands. Your attention may already be split. Then a text arrives saying your package cannot be delivered. Another claims you owe a toll. Maybe a message warns that somebody accessed your account. That timing can work in a scammer's favor because you may react before giving the message a closer look.

Of course, a text arriving at noon does not automatically mean somebody is trying to scam you. The data shows when Malwarebytes observed the highest volume. Still, the pattern gives us another look at how organized scam campaigns have become.

IS THAT TRAFFIC TICKET TEXT A SCAM OR REAL?

Fridays bring even more scam texts

The day of the week also appears to play a role. Malwarebytes saw its lowest scam text volume on Sunday. Activity then increased as the week went on. By Friday, people were receiving roughly 50% more fraudulent texts than at the beginning of the week.

The researchers cannot say exactly why Friday produced the highest volume. However, the pattern suggests scammers may be deliberately timing campaigns instead of sending messages at random.

Maybe you're finishing work and thinking about the weekend. You could also be juggling deliveries, travel plans or bills. Whatever the reason, criminals want you moving quickly.

That's something we've seen repeatedly with fake government messages. A DMV scam text can threaten fines or license problems while pushing you toward a payment page. The threat gets your attention. The deadline tries to stop you from thinking.

MrBeast is the most impersonated person in the data

Timing gets the message in front of you. Familiarity can make you trust it. Malwarebytes found that Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, was the most impersonated person in its data. His likeness appeared in about 30% of impersonation scams observed by the company.

Elon Musk and Donald Trump followed him in the data. These scams can involve fake cryptocurrency giveaways or schemes that demand a fee before you supposedly receive money. The real person has nothing to do with the offer.

Scammers borrow a face you recognize because familiarity can lower your guard. That tactic has become even more troubling as AI-generated video and cloned voices improve. A face on your screen no longer proves the person actually made the video.

Google leads the list of impersonated brands

Scammers use the same strategy with companies you recognize. According to reports from Malwarebytes users, the five most impersonated brands were: Google, Microsoft, Apple, Roblox and Amazon.

Google's name appeared at least twice as often as Amazon's. That familiarity gives criminals a huge advantage. If you use Google every day, a fake security warning may look routine. An Apple customer may react quickly to a message about an account problem.

Amazon scams can land at exactly the right moment because so many of us regularly have packages on the way. So, treat the logo as decoration until you verify the message yourself.

Gaming scams are getting more attention

Gaming communities are also attracting scammers. Malwarebytes found Roblox, Steam, Discord and Minecraft among the most impersonated gaming platforms.

Roblox scam activity increased 15% between mid-June and mid-July. Steam saw a 19% increase during the same period. The potential losses can also get serious.

Malwarebytes says about half of the gaming scams it analyzed could lead to losses of $1,000 or more. That is particularly concerning when younger gamers may encounter fake offers through communities they already trust.

A message promising free in-game items or access to something exclusive can quickly lead to a fake login page. Once the victim enters a password, the scammer may take over the account.

How to protect yourself from better-timed scams

Scammers can improve their timing, but you can make yourself a much harder target. The best defense starts with slowing down and verifying what you see.

1) Don't click links or call numbers in unexpected messages

Avoid links and phone numbers inside unsolicited emails, texts or social media messages. A link can take you to a copied website designed to steal your login or payment information. Likewise, the phone number in a fake security alert can connect you directly to the scammer. Instead, leave the message and contact the company another way.

2) Verify the message through an official source

Go directly to the company's official website or open its app. If the message claims you owe money, check your real account before paying anything. You can also contact the organization using a phone number you already trust. This breaks the scammer's control over the conversation.

3) Be careful with sponsored search results

Searching for a company's website can help, but pay close attention to what you click. Scammers can use sponsored search ads that lead to fake support pages or convincing copies of legitimate websites. Check the web address before entering sensitive information. When possible, use a saved bookmark or the company's official app.

4) Keep passwords and verification codes private

Never give someone your password because they called or messaged you unexpectedly. The same goes for PINs, account recovery codes and one-time verification codes. A scammer may claim they need a code to verify your identity. In reality, that code may give them access to your account. If a caller asks for sensitive information, hang up and contact the organization yourself.

5) Never send payment because someone pressures you

Be suspicious when an unexpected caller or message demands immediate payment. Before paying, confirm the charge through your actual account or by contacting the organization independently. Watch closely for payment requests involving gift cards, cryptocurrency or transfers that may be difficult to reverse. Urgency should make you more cautious, not less.

6) Use browser protection against scam sites

Strong antivirus software can help block known phishing sites and other malicious pages. Browser protection can also warn you before you enter information on a dangerous website. Keep your browser updated as well. Security updates help close weaknesses that criminals may try to exploit. 7) Turn on scam and spam filtering on your phone

Your phone may already include tools that identify suspicious calls or messages. Turn on spam filtering when your device and messaging app support it. Mobile security software can provide another layer of protection by identifying scam texts and dangerous links. No filter catches everything, so continue checking unexpected messages yourself.

8) Check suspicious messages before responding

If something feels wrong, look into it before you reply. Search for the company's official contact information. Check your account directly. You can also use a reputable scam-checking service to examine a suspicious phone number, message or link. The goal is simple. Verify the claim somewhere outside the conversation the scammer started.

9) Block and report scam messages

Once you know a message is fraudulent, block the sender and report it as spam. Most phones and email services include built-in reporting options. Reporting scams can also help providers identify campaigns and block similar messages for other users. Then delete the message so you do not accidentally interact with it later.

Act quickly if you already clicked or shared information

If you entered a password on a suspicious site, change it immediately using the real website or app.

Change that password anywhere else you reused it. Better yet, use a password manager to create and store strong, unique passwords for each account so one stolen password cannot unlock several accounts.

If you gave away payment information, contact your bank or card issuer right away.

You should also review your accounts for unfamiliar activity.

If a scammer gained access to your device, disconnect it from the internet and run a trusted security scan.

What grabs me about this research is how deliberate scam campaigns are becoming. Scammers are paying attention to where you spend your time. Now, the timing data suggests they may also be watching when you're more likely to respond. That changes how I think about those random-looking texts that pop up during a busy day. The message may feel like one more thing that needs your attention. That's exactly when you need to slow down. You cannot control when a scammer contacts you. You can control whether that person gets to set the pace. When something unexpected asks for money or account information, get out of the message. Find the real company on your own and check the claim there. That small pause can ruin a scammer's entire plan.

Welcome in on this beautiful morning for a flaming hot edition of Monday Screencaps where we dive right into the world of football, a new cross country personal record for Screencaps Jr., my trip to Detroit to see a former NFL Super Bowl QB and anything else on my mind because I built this column and they pay me to write things for the readers.

Let's start with the world of football with some quick hitters:

• As many of you know, I've been all over the death of the NFL chain gang topic for the last 2-3 years. Yesterday, I noticed the NFL is now using a virtual measurement tool that sure looks like MLB's ABS system for strike zone challenges. There was a moment in the Packers-Vikings game where Jordan Love ran a QB keeper into a massive pile of humanity and the line judges came rushing in to spot the ball.

The human places the ball, the head ref says it's too close to call, so they go to the NFL's ABS. The ball was six-inches short of the first down. Folks, what are we doing? We have AI that is going to kill us all and yet we can't figure out how perfect the art of placing a football exactly where the runner was down? There are reports that the league has been putting chips in footballs since 2016 and yet we still can't figure this out. SMH.

• How did JJ Watt perform in Tony Romo's seat? He's safe. I wouldn't say he's earth-shattering in the way he analyzes the action, but he doesn't hurt the broadcast. Honestly, it felt like at times he was too soft-spoken. I'm not looking for Watt to turn into a screamer, but he just stayed safe, almost like he's easing into the role.

At Saturday's Tiffin Carnival meet, Jr. finished with an 11:32.5 (11th place out of 287 runners), which smashed his previous best by 13 seconds as his team won the varsity race by 110 points. The boys put up 70 points, which, according to the experts in this sport, is an incredible number.

Roman Reigns will put the World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Penta. Reigns has been the champion since defeating CM Punk at WrestleMania 42 and has put down everyone who has stepped up to the plate to try and take a swing at him.

El-Sayed’s liberal agenda clashes with Muslim voters who back him anyway: ‘Male version’ of Ilhan Omar

DETROIT, MICHIGAN — Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan, faces a striking disconnect among some Muslim voters who oppose his positions on abortion and LGBTQ issues yet say they plan to vote for him anyway.

"He is a Democrat with a Muslim mask," one attendee of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) Convention, who requested anonymity to avoid social reprisals, told Fox News Digital. "Basically he's like Ilhan Omar, but like a male version."

He went on to say that, while he takes objection to El-Sayed’s positions on abortion and LGBTQ rights, he "want[s] him to get elected" to improve his community’s "representation."

Fox News Digital was on the ground at the Islamic Society of North America’s annual conference in Detroit over Labor Day weekend, where El-Sayed delivered the marquee speech amid controversy over past remarks by some conference speakers. The episode has added scrutiny to El-Sayed’s ties to the organization and the political coalition surrounding his campaign.

‘DESTROYING THE AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE’: EL-SAYED’S POLITICAL ORBIT COMPLICATES EFFORT TO MODERATE HIS IMAGE

In total, Fox News Digital spoke to about 10 attendees at the conference, some of whom requested anonymity or declined to be recorded but agreed to speak on background. Several described a tension between their personal views on social issues and their support for El-Sayed, particularly on abortion and LGBTQ issues.

El-Sayed supports codifying Roe v. Wade into law, funding Planned Parenthood, establishing LGBTQ-inclusive sex education and allowing doctors to perform sex-change operations on children. Islamic theology generally takes a more restrictive view of abortion, gender and sexuality, though interpretations vary among Muslims.

Another attendee, a Navy veteran, told Fox News Digital that he strongly opposes El-Sayed’s positions on issues like abortion and LGBTQ sex education, but feels like the Republican Party has let him down following the 2024 election.

"I voted for Donald Trump. When it comes to values, I'm a Republican. But unfortunately they have betrayed us," he said.

He pointed to the Trump administration’s involvement in foreign wars and cost-of-living concerns as the issues pushing him to support El-Sayed despite the Democrat’s liberal beliefs. Multiple attendees who spoke to Fox News Digital at the conference, including some who declined to be interviewed on the record, said they voted for Trump in 2024 but were planning on supporting El-Sayed in the midterms.

MICHIGAN SENATE RACE: EL-SAYED’S TIES TO EXTREMIST FUEL ANTISEMITISM CONCERNS AMONG JEWISH VOTERS

"We're concerned about where our tax dollars are going to. A lot of these tax dollars are going to support foreign wars, support countries that aren't the United States," Zubin, a longtime El-Sayed supporter, told Fox News Digital. "So I think these are the main issues that resonate not just with the Muslim voters but the everyday voter in all of Michigan."

Trump’s support for Israel and his military operations in Iran have become growing points of concern for some voters, with polls showing rising dissatisfaction over U.S. involvement in Middle Eastern conflicts.

Trump did uncharacteristically well for a Republican among Michigan Arab Americans in 2024. If support for the GOP slides heavily with that demographic in November, it could spell trouble for the party's Senate prospects. Republicans, however, are seeking to pick off disaffected Jewish Democrats to gain an edge themselves.

Some attendees who spoke with Fox News Digital were shocked to learn about El-Sayed’s support for abortion and LGBTQ rights.

"Wait, he's supporting LGBTQ?" one conference attendee, who requested to remain anonymous for social reasons, told Fox News Digital. "I don't really think that's good, especially because this is Islam and it prohibits LGBTQ and I do really think that people should abandon… abortion since they're taking a life away."

DETROIT VOTERS CALL ON DEMOCRATS TO UNITE AROUND EL-SAYED AFTER STUNNING VICTORY OF FAR-LEFT PROGRESSIVE

The attendee said he believes if El-Sayed’s social views were more widely known in the Islamic community, his support might decline. Others said they believe the importance of social views among Muslims is dependent on generation.

"So yes, Abdul El-Sayed, maybe his views when it comes to these things, maybe more similar to mine as compared to our parents, our grandparents, yes, with those generations. There may be a little bit of friction, but this is natural," Zubin said. "I do think, yes, these are probably going to be talking points within the Muslim community."

Some individuals who spoke to Fox News Digital acknowledged that the Islamic community has some deeply held conservative beliefs, but argued that the community will be able to look past that come November.

"He's gonna be great for education, and he's gonna be great for medical," Fauzi, who was attending the conference, told Fox News Digital. "5-10% of the issues, people may differ. But we have to look at the big picture [and] how he can be impactful for the state of Michigan, the country at large, and all of us here."

JEWISH DEM DEFECTIONS THREATEN EL-SAYED IN MICHIGAN SENATE RACE DECIDED BY RAZOR-THIN MARGINS

A handful of attendees who spoke with Fox News Digital said their community would be excited if a Muslim Republican ran in their state, while others stressed that the party’s reputation could hamper its ability to appeal to Arab Americans.

"Yes, if you're a good person, a good politician and running for the Republican Party and you believe in your values and that you can do good, go ahead and run, and I'm sure you can win a lot of support from this community as well," Zubin said.

"I think it's very difficult for a Muslim to run as a Republican because, frankly, a lot of Republican voters do tend to have a strong bias against us," another attendee, who requested to remain anonymous, told Fox News Digital.

Republicans need a Reagan-style vision to win the battle over America's future

These midterm elections aren’t about the price of gas, or data centers, or even $5,000 checks in the mail from the federal government.

"They will be about which political party offers a hopeful view of the future, one that inspires and motivates, and which party is mired in bitterness about the past, and hatred of what’s next."

The RNC convention showed once and for all that it’s the GOP that represents that hopeful future. Speakers, including President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr., told America about the good news from Trump policies, from the boom in manufacturing and construction jobs; the investment boom thanks to the Trump tax cuts; and the stock market boom; to the sealing of the border and the decline in crime across the country.

REPUBLICANS CAN WIN THE MIDTERMS IF THEY JUST STOP UNDERSELLING SUCCESS

They also drew a sharp contrast with the rise of the Democratic Socialists of America, and with what the Democrat Party has become: the party that despises America and all it represents.

Now it’s up to Republican candidates to translate that message into votes, by speaking to voters’ hearts, not just their heads.

And here they need to take a page from the Ronald Reagan playbook. Reagan was able to dominate the political landscape for nearly a decade by projecting a hopeful picture of the future for the greatest and strongest nation on earth, what Reagan called "the shining city on the hill."

As Reagan himself put it, "I believe we, the Americans of today, are ready to act worthy of ourselves, ready to do what must be done to ensure happiness and liberty for ourselves, our children, and our children's children."

It’s worth remembering what Reagan had to overcome to convey this hopeful message.

When he took office as president in January 1981, the prime interest rate was near 20%. The annual real GDP growth rate for the previous full year (1980) was a negative number, at -0.3%3. During his first year as president, the need to tighten interest rates led to a deeper recession in 1982, while unemployment spiked at 10%. Gas prices spiked upward, as well.

Yet Reagan’s optimism and confidence in America never wavered.

He said, "If we look to the answer as to why, for so many years, we achieved so much, prospered as no other people on Earth, it was because here in this land we unleashed the energy and individual genius of man to a greater extent than has ever been done before."

By rejecting predictions of decline; by embracing individual enterprise; by securing peace through strength to push back against our enemies, Reagan told America in his first inaugural address that America’s future couldn’t be brighter.

He was right. Four years later, it was "Morning Again in America." GDP shot up to 6.8% as tax cuts took effect. Unemployment tumbled, followed by interest rates. The Soviet Union reeled as America’s military came back stronger than ever, with the fall of the Iron Curtain just five years away.

Imagine if Reagan had had the positive numbers the GOP has now, to celebrate and project a boundless, limitless future for America and Americans.

As Donald Trump repeats Reagan’s economic and foreign policy success in terms of policy, here are three ways the GOP can repeat and spread Reagan’s message of optimism and hope—state by state, district by district.

First, show how economic growth in their state and district has already made lives better, with real individuals — construction and machine tool workers, waitresses, small business owners — telling how they have benefited from better-paying jobs, higher wages, no tax on tips, and 100% expensing for their growing economic enterprise.

All this will make a temporary up-blip in gas prices look a lot less menacing.

Second, bring the gospel of optimism home to small business owners, who are the backbone of hiring and the economy. They are key beneficiaries of Trump tax cuts, and also of the expansion of data centers to power their businesses. They are also the driving force behind real economic growth, thanks to their founding energy and risk-taking.

There are 36.2 million of them. All or most are potential GOP voters in November, once they understand which political party has their back and celebrates their virtues, and which does not.

Third, just calling DSA-backed candidates "socialists" and "communists" won’t cut it. Instead, bring on board the personal testimony of those in your district who have had to live under socialist regimes, from Cuba, Venezuela and Vietnam to the former USSR and North Korea — those who came to America to build better lives for themselves under a free enterprise system. They can show those who think socialism has the answers, that socialism is a dead end for human hopes and dreams, as well as economic and political freedom.

The Democrats today can offer only hate and fear, and a discredited and disastrous past, whether it’s the Biden years or life in Castro’s Cuba.

Denny Hamlin thinks forward-facing sonar has gone too far in professional bass fishing.

The NASCAR star, who has spent the past year diving headfirst into bass fishing after purchasing a boat last winter, says the technology may be helping pros catch more fish — but at the expense of some of the sport’s traditional skill.

"I think the guys on the pro tour, it’s a little too much," Hamlin told OutKick OutDoors. "It’s a little too much."

Hamlin pointed to what he sees as a disappearing part of the game: finding fish without relying so heavily on electronics.

"I think that there’s a lost art form of going out there, doing the homework, finding the spots," he said. "It’s probably better for TV that these guys are catching monster bass and, you know, 100-pound bags, but I can see where it’s probably getting a little overboard."

And he doesn’t expect the technology arms race to slow down anytime soon.

"The technology is going to just keep getting more," Hamlin said. "Eventually it’s going to become even easier."

That debate has become one of the hottest topics in professional bass fishing, with both of the sport’s major circuits already taking steps to limit the influence of forward-facing sonar.

For the 2026 Bassmaster Elite Series, B.A.S.S. allows forward-facing sonar at no more than five of the nine regular-season events. The organization went so far as to use coin flips to determine which stops would permit the technology, creating a mix of traditional and electronics-heavy tournaments throughout the schedule.

Major League Fishing has taken a different approach on the Bass Pro Tour.

Rather than banning forward-facing sonar at certain events, MLF limits anglers to using forward-facing and/or 360-degree sonar during just one of three 2.5-hour competition periods each day. Anglers must declare in advance which period they intend to use it, and the technology must be disabled during the other two. MLF also limits competitors to two forward-facing or 360-degree transducers.

In other words, Hamlin isn’t exactly alone in thinking the technology may need some guardrails.

But he’s also not pretending he doesn’t appreciate it. There are some obvious benefits, after all.

"For someone like me who’s a novice, it at least gets me in the game," Hamlin said.

That pretty much sums up his relationship with fishing at this point. He’s still learning, still getting humbled and still very much hooked.

Hamlin has also been accelerating his learning curve with help from professional angler Chris Zaldain.

"When you can go out with a pro … it just allows me to watch him cast and watch him work a minnow or whatever it might be," Hamlin said. "He definitely teaches me quite a bit, and I definitely have caught more fish now that I’ve got a little bit of that experience of watching how he does it."

And after starting out exclusively in freshwater, Hamlin is already looking beyond bass.

"I’m in the middle of purchasing an offshore boat now," he said, "so I’m sure I’ll get into that fishing here in the next year or so."

The hobby has also become more than another competitive pursuit.

Hamlin called fishing "therapeutic" and said it has helped teach him patience — something he joked he could always use more of.

"It certainly is a great outlet for me," he said. "A lot of my time used to be spent playing basketball, golf, things like that, and this one is certainly a lot easier on the body."

Not that the competitive streak disappears once he gets on the water.

Asked whether he gets as competitive about fishing as he does racing, Hamlin laughed off the comparison — sort of.

"About racing, no," he said. "But still, if I’ve got a co-angler on the deck, I’m looking to catch more and more weight."

He also prefers to do it alone.

"Solo. Give me solo," Hamlin said when asked whether fishing was more of a solitary escape or something he liked doing with family.

"You got kids, you can’t get the line out," he said. "I’m retying something every two seconds. Like, I can’t even get my own line in the water."

Fishing may be a way for Hamlin to slow down, but he hasn’t exactly left his competitive instincts at the dock.

He said he could see himself entering fishing pro-ams eventually.

For now, though, it’s something that gets him outside, off his phone and away from the grind. Something we could all use.
