Two regular Joes will compete with pros for $3.25M purse at inaugural 'The Champions' bass fishing tournament

If you’ve ever watched a bass fishing tournament and thought you could hang with the best anglers on earth, it might be time to put up or shut up.

World Bass Enterprises (WBE) is giving two average Joes the chance to compete in The Champions this fall, putting them on the same water, in the same tournament and in pursuit of the same record-setting prize money as some of the best bass fishermen in the world.

No pressure.

The Champions, an inaugural tournament hosted by WBE, will feature a $3.25 million purse, including $1.25 million for the winning angler. That’s the largest prize in the sport’s history. The field will include the top 25 anglers from the Bassmaster Elite Series and the top 25 from Major League Fishing’s Bass Pro Tour.

And now, two fans will get a chance to join them.

WBE founder and CEO Brian Bird told OutKick Outdoors the idea came from fans themselves.

"You know, whenever we would do a podcast or we would do a social launch on one of our social media, there was always comments of, ‘Well, how do I get in? The everyday person should get to fish in something like this,’" Bird said. "And so I just — it bothered me."

So, he came up with a solution.

Fans who buy the tournament’s pay-per-view streaming package will be entered for a chance to win one of the two spots. There is also a no-purchase-necessary mail-in option.

"You buy the pay-per-view event, and it’s 50 bucks," Bird said. "We’re streaming the opening ceremonies. We’re streaming the tournament, of course, the weigh-ins, but we’re streaming the Champions Dinner. We’re streaming the pro-am. You get to watch all of that."

Then WBE will draw two anglers from those entries.

"We’ll just have two anglers that we draw out of that that buy the pay-per-view that are just everyday Joes, and give them a chance to compete in this tournament at the same level as the professionals," Bird said. "So I think it’s going to be really cool."

Bass fishing has plenty of weekend warriors who are convinced they could hang with the pros if given the chance. This time, two of them will actually get to prove it.

"I think it’s a story in itself for these people to get to participate in something like this," he said. "I mean, at media day, I can’t imagine the questions they’re going to receive. They may have more attention on them than the pros do.

"Maybe one of them will make the top 15 to fish in the championship on Saturday. That’d even be way cool too. So we’ll see what happens."

The Champions will be held Oct. 28-Nov. 1 at Sanders Ferry Park on Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, Tenn., just outside Nashville.

Bird said the goal is to create a true world championship event, something bass fishing has never really had before.

"I love the sport, for one, and I love watching tournaments, and I love watching all the anglers participate," Bird said. "But I’ve always been like, well, who’s the best, right? Because there’s two leagues, and in all of our other sports, there is a true championship. You know, a Super Bowl or NBA championship or whatever you want to call it, and I just felt like the sport of bass fishing was missing that."

First place will pay $1.25 million. Second place gets $500,000, third gets $300,000, fourth gets $200,000 and fifth gets $100,000.

"We wanted it to be the biggest payday," Bird said. "If we’re going to call this thing the Super Bowl of bass fishing, the world championship of bass fishing, whatever you’re going to call it… the payday needed to reflect that type of status."

Bird said professional anglers do well, but they don’t make the kind of money athletes in other major sports make. If this is going to be treated like a true championship, he believes the money should match.

"If you’re the best in the world," he said "you deserve to see that big payday."

The Champions will have a festival atmosphere

The fishing will be the centerpiece, but WBE is building The Champions into a much bigger event.

The five-day event will include three days of competition, media day, opening ceremonies, weigh-ins, a flyover, fireworks, a massive expo, a pro-am tournament, fan activities, food and beverage vendors and musical performances from Riley Green, Lee Greenwood, Randy Houser and Trace Adkins.

"The way we’re setting it all up is it’s all like what probably the fans and athletes experience at a Super Bowl," Bird said.

He said fans can also expect a kids park with a petting zoo, BB gun shoots, fishing activities, aquariums, bounce houses, casting and flipping contests, horseshoe contests, bands, a beer garden and food vendors.

It’s a full-blown bass fishing festival.

World Bass Enterprises CEO is also giving away his own boat

WBE announced that one fan will win Bird’s former Ranger Z521R 55th Anniversary Limited Edition 2023 bass boat. Fans can enter by buying merch from WBE’s online store, or by mail without making a purchase.

Bird told OutKick Outdoors he wanted the giveaway to feel more personal than simply buying a random prize. He said the boat has been well cared for and is "like brand new."

"We’ve won some tournaments together, but I just thought it’d be awesome for a fan to get to have it and see somebody else getting to use it," Bird said. "And hopefully, it’s as good to whoever wins it as it’s been to me."

Bird said WBE is also giving away other prizes, including ATVs, a trip to the Bahamas, an alligator hunt and fishing trips.

"There’s lots of opportunities to win so much stuff, and that’s something else that’s really neat about this," Bird said. "I don’t think there’s ever been an event like it that’s giving away as much as we’re giving away to the fans."

Meet BK Westbrook – Pro wrestler who has battled obstacles to become rising talent on the scene

The pro wrestling landscape is filled with many talents looking to break through and make a name for themselves. BK Westbrook is one of those wrestlers chasing that crazy dream.

The road hasn’t been easy. Westbrook started to train at a wrestling school in North Carolina in 2018 before it eventually closed down. He started having his first matches at Carolina Wrestling Federation (CWF) Mid-Atlantic before the promotion came to an abrupt end in 2019.

He then suffered another setback – the COVID-19 pandemic. But overcoming one obstacle after another was all a part of the journey.

"I've had that like multiple times within wrestling and it's crazy when I saw my school closed down, I was getting my car's oil changed, was waiting for it, and then next thing you know I get this message saying we're no longer going to have shows and then I had to think, I didn't just get into wrestling to just wrestle at this one place even though like this is awful this sucks," he told Fox News Digital. "And then COVID happens, again, it's like OK, well I can't do my thing. right now and this is really, really annoying and I'm just I'm annoyed that I can't do that and eventually led to me just continuing to put my name even more places and I felt like this can't be the end for me. I can't let this little this crazy time, this unprecedented happening with the pandemic,

"I couldn't just let that get me down man. It was a little difficult because living in North Carolina, it was a little less, I mean it was still strict, but if I was going to go wrestle somewhere, I'd go somewhere where the states didn't care as much, like Tennessee or South Carolina or something like that, even Georgia. But once things started kind of opening back up and things started to get normal, it was like, OK, we're going to hit the ground running."

For Westbrook, the dream was always pro wrestling.

He said he grew up watching it on TV but really grew to love the sport watching it on YouTube. The mix of athleticism and entertainment was the true draw.

"It was just falling in love with it online growing up," Westbrook said. "Growing up being a YouTube kid, being on a computer. I discovered it on TV first, but just finding a love for independent wrestling and what I'm doing now kind of grew on me just loving what wrestling is at its core, what you see on WWE or AEW or whatever, I just kind of found even more of a deeper liking for it.

"But it's just I don't know. I just think it's something that if you're a wrestling fan, you get it, and you understand kind of why you're drawn to it. To me, it's easy for me. I like sports, I like entertainment, I like them both kind of together. It's just it's different for everybody, but for me it was super simple to like to get into just because I love the athletic blend of competition, and also, just the storytelling aspect of being able to normally tell the story of good versus evil or just even beyond that. I just think wrestling is such an amazing art or medium for art and I get a chance to do it on the weekends. Hopefully more than just the weekends. Hopefully, you know, all the time."

Westbrook has been putting in the work. He’s wrestled at some of the top independent promotions right now, including Pandemonium Pro, Game Changer Wrestling, Limitless Wrestling, Deadlock Pro-Wrestling, TBD Wrestling and several others. He even made an appearance for All Elite Wrestling.

Recently, he battled Amira for the Pandemonium Pro Championship. Though it was a losing effort, Westbrook came away with a few bruises from the women’s wrestler.

"My first time wrestling Amira, like you said last month in Portland, and she's been kind of running it over there for a while in the Pacific Northwest, specifically that Portland area," he told Fox News Digital. "My first shot I think I ever even heard of Amira was in the Portland area. I was wrestling for Prestige Wrestling and that was really cool and to see her growth, she's been doing lots of stuff.

"My fianceé, Ella Envy, she was able to hang out and get a chance to know Amira from like the Lodestone stuff that that Bayley was doing where she was putting on for women's wrestling. And I think she's doing really good work. I got a chance to wrestle her. She hits really hard, but other than that, she's got lots of talent. And if I wasn't going to be the champion, I'll say she's about as good as it gets for being a champion representing over there."

Westbrook will be a part of Pandemonium: Pro Wrestling’s "JoJo" event on Aug. 2. The wrestling showcase will honor the late Jordan Saint, who died in a car crash on Long Island, New York. The proceeds of the event will go to Saint’s family.

He will be going up against Epidemius Jr. While he vowed to win the match, he said it was an honor to be a part of the show.

"I'm excited for the match," he said. "I'm excited for the show. It's going to be an incredible event. It’s super sad about the passing of Jordan and I just I hate that. And I know that everybody is looking to have an awesome show in his memory.

"Outside of that, for Pandemonium to run this event with all the proceeds going to his family, it does it helps knowing that his people will be taken care of after that. It’s cool that wrestling is a way and a medium for that to be able to happen. Unfortunately, that his passing did occur, but it is nice to know that we can make a difference in that regard and I'm excited to have a kicka-- match in his memory and also in the name of Pandemonium Pro."

Confidence in higher education slips after brief recovery, Gallup poll finds

Public confidence in American higher education has taken a fresh hit, erasing a brief period of recovery, as concerns over campus politics and financial value intensify, according to a new Gallup poll obtained by Fox News Digital.

The latest data reveals that just 38% of U.S. adults maintain a "great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in higher education. The figure represents a noticeable drop from last year, when trust in the sector experienced a modest uptick to 42%.

"It's kind of the three things that we see–those are still front and center and why people aren't as confident in higher ed as they used to be: the cost, there's the perception that there's a political agenda being taught, and there's the reception that they're not teaching people the right kinds of things they need to succeed in the job once they finish," an expert from Gallup told Fox News Digital in an interview.

LIBERAL FACULTY STILL HUGELY OUTNUMBER CONSERVATIVES IN HIGHER EDUCATION: REPORT

"U.S. public confidence in higher education remains much lower than it was a decade ago, but Americans’ views are not quite as negative as they were in 2024, when roughly equal shares had a great deal or quite a lot of confidence as had very little or none," Gallup researchers noted. "After a slight recovery in confidence last year among all political party groups, views of higher education fell back this year, mainly among Democrats."

The survey probed respondents on what drives their skepticism, revealing three distinct themes among those who lack confidence:

• 31% cite partisan bias or indoctrination on college campuses.

• 30% point to the high cost of a college degree.

• 25% believe colleges fail to prepare students to succeed in the modern job market.

Gallup researchers noted that the criticism over workforce readiness takes on added urgency as artificial intelligence rapidly shifts the employment landscape.

"The latter criticism takes on added significance with AI emerging as a technology that could disrupt the workforce and make it harder for graduates to find work once they finish their education," the report added. "The challenge for higher education is whether it can adapt its instruction to set students up for success in the future workplace."

AMERICA'S NEXT 250 YEARS BEGIN IN THE CLASSROOM

The current 38% confidence mark underscores a steep, long-term decline from 2015, when 57% of Americans expressed solid trust in higher education. Significant drops followed in 2018 and 2023.

Currently, 37% of Americans report having "some" confidence in the institution, while 25% hold "very little" or "none." The portion of the public with little to no faith rose from 10% in 2015 to 32% in 2024, before briefly retreating to 23% last year.

The findings arrive amid a broader push by the Trump administration to dismantle viewpoint discrimination, antisemitism, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) frameworks across U.S. universities.

The administration previously designated "civil discourse" as one of four critical areas of national need within its competitive federal grants program. In response to that mandate, the Department of Education unveiled seven institutional priorities under the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE).

As a primary component of that initiative, $60 million in federal grants is being deployed under a directive titled "Promoting Civil Discourse on College and University Campuses."

Colleges and universities securing FIPSE funds are required to construct initiatives that "foster respectful deliberation and debate on college and university campuses, where free expression has too long been eroded by censorship, harassment, and even violent unrest."

Acclaimed New Zealand actor Sam Neill contracted pneumonia before he died, co-star says

Sam Neill, the 78-year-old New Zealand actor best known for his role in "Jurassic Park," died on Monday after contracting pneumonia, a co-star said.

Rima Te Wiata, a Kiwi actor who appeared with Neill in the 2016 comedy "Hunt for the Wilderpeople," told The New Zealand Herald that he was "a very steady, peaceful, grounded man."

In an interview with the outlet, Te Wiata recounted times when Neill told the press that he wasn't afraid of death but that he'd be "annoyed" by it.

Neill's death came after he said he was cancer-free in April, years after he was diagnosed with Stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

"It really sucks actually," Te Wiata said. "I think he would be like: ‘For goodness sake, I got over my cancer. And now look, now I get pneumonia. What next?'"

Neill's family announced his death on Monday via an Instagram post, saying he died while at St. Vincent's Private Hospital in Sydney, Australia.

"Sam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterized his whole life," they said. "The loss was sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer free."

Neill, who starred as paleontologist Alan Grant opposite co-stars Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Richard Attenborough in 1993’s "Jurassic Park," has been remembered in tributes from around the world.

Dern, 59, called Neill "my beloved lifetime friend," in a social media post.

In a statement to Variety, director Steven Spielberg said he "adored making all the 'Jurassic' movies with him."

"Along with Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, we will always have our ‘Jurassic’ family and Sam will never be forgotten by us or his many millions of fans around the world," Spielberg added.

JURASSIC PARK STAR SAM NEILL REVEALS HE HAS 'FEROCIOUS' STAGE 3 CANCER

Laura Tingle, a journalist for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation who also dated Neill for several years, revealed that he had been sick for "the last couple of weeks," in an interview with ABC Radio Sydney.

"Everybody who loved him has been willing him on from near and far, but I think it was just a bit too much to recover from one more time," Tingle said.

"He’d had a lot of chemo and a lot of immunotherapy and, thankfully, it finally cleared him of the blood cancer that he had, but that left him pretty compromised in terms of his immune system," she added.

Over his decades-long career, Neill has had more than 150 acting credits in movies and TV shows, including "The Hunt for Red October," "The Piano," "Event Horizon" and "Merlin."

In 2013, Neill took a role on "Peaky Blinders," an award-winning crime series set in Britain after World War I.

Co-star Cillian Murphy remembered Neill as "one of the kindest, funniest and gentlest people, and one of the finest actors," in a statement provided to Page Six.

Nicole Kidman also paid tribute to Neill, whom she met as a young actress on the set of the 1989 Australian thriller "Dead Calm."

"We met when I was just 18 and he took me under his wing and we stayed friends for life. He was charming, kind, funny and intelligent," she said in a statement to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Neill was born in 1947 in Omagh, a town of about 20,000 in Northern Ireland. In the early 1950s, he moved to New Zealand with his family.

Why devices aren't safe enough right out of the box

When a new gadget arrives in your hands, it isn't a blank slate. It comes loaded with factory settings designed for convenience instead of protection. Manufacturers want the unboxing experience to feel effortless, so they turn on features, like automatic connections, data sharing and remote access, that make setup easy but leave you exposed.

Smart TVs are some of the worst offenders. Many come with a feature called Automatic Content Recognition (ACR), switched on by default. It works like a fingerprint scanner for your screen, capturing information about everything you watch and sending it back to the manufacturer. You agreed to it somewhere in the terms and conditions you blitzed through when you set it up. Most people have no idea it's even there.

Tablets and phones bring their own risks. Although many hardware manufacturers like to brag about privacy, lots of tablets and phones will share your location, accept connections from nearby devices, and back up your data to the company's servers - all by default.

Plus, your home network is only as secure as its weakest device. One poorly configured smart TV or old tablet with an out-of-date OS can give attackers a foothold into everything else connected to the same router.

The 4 things to check before you connect

Before you connect any new smart TV, tablet or phone to your home network, take five minutes to check the settings manually. You do not need to be a tech expert. Focus on the areas that create the biggest openings.

Update the device and change default passwords

First, update the device and change any default passwords or PINs. A brand-new device may have been sitting in a warehouse for months, which means it could already need a security update. Default credentials are also easy for attackers to find online.

Review privacy settings and app permissions

Next, review privacy settings. On a smart TV, look for Automatic Content Recognition, or ACR, and turn it off. Depending on the brand, it may be listed under Viewing Data, Live Plus, SyncPlus, Smart TV Experience or privacy settings. On a phone or tablet, check location, camera, microphone and nearby device permissions.

Turn off features you do not use

Then, turn off connectivity features you do not use. Bluetooth, remote access, file sharing and screen mirroring can all create openings when they stay on all the time.

Add a VPN for another layer of privacy

Finally, consider adding a VPN for another layer of privacy. A VPN encrypts your internet traffic, which helps protect what your smart TV, phone, tablet or laptop sends over the network. A trusted VPN has apps for many popular devices, and it can also run at the router level on compatible routers.

Next time you bring home a smart TV, tablet or phone, do this before you use it every day.

1) Put smart devices on a guest Wi-Fi network first

Before you connect the device, open your router app or router settings page. Look for Guest Network, IoT Network or Device Isolation. Create a separate Wi-Fi name for TVs, speakers, cameras and smart home gear.

Use WPA3 Personal if your router offers it. If not, use WPA2 Personal. Give this network a strong password you do not use anywhere else. Then connect the new smart TV or tablet to that network instead of the same Wi-Fi your work laptop uses.

2) Update the software before signing in everywhere

Install updates before you add streaming apps, email accounts or payment info.

iPhone or iPad: Open Settings > General > Software Update > Download and Install. Then tap Automatic Updates and turn on iOS or iPadOS updates.
Samsung phone or tablet: Open Settings > Software update > Download and install. On some models, go to Settings > System updates. Settings may vary depending on your device's manufacturer
Other Android phone or tablet: Open Settings > System > Software update > System update > Check for update. The exact wording can vary by brand.
Samsung smart TV: Go to Settings > All Settings > Support > Software Update > Update Now. Turn on Auto Update, too.
LG smart TV: Go to Settings > All Settings > Support > Software Update > Check for Updates. Turn on Auto Update, too.
Roku TV or Roku device: Press Home > Settings > System > Software update > Check Now.

3) Change default passwords, PINs and device names

Do not leave factory passwords in place. Change the device PIN, parental control PIN or purchase PIN if the setup screen offers one. Use a password manager to create and store strong, unique passwords. Use a long passcode on phones and tablets instead of a 4-digit code. Also, rename the device. A name like "Kurt's Bedroom TV" tells more than you need to share. Use something generic like "Living Room TV" or "Tablet 1."

4) Turn on account protection before adding apps

Before you sign in to Apple, Google, Samsung, Amazon or Roku, turn on two-factor authentication where available. For Roku, set a PIN to help block unwanted purchases, subscriptions and app additions.

Apple: Open Settings > your name > Sign-In & Security > Two-Factor Authentication > follow the onscreen instructions.
Google: Open your Google Account > Security & sign-in > How you sign in to Google > 2-Step Verification > Turn on 2-Step Verification > follow the onscreen steps.
Samsung: Open Settings > your Samsung account name > Security and privacy > Two-step verification > follow the prompts.
Amazon: Open the Amazon app > account icon > Your Account > Login & security > Two-Step Verification > Get Started > follow the prompts.
Roku: Go to my.roku.com > sign in > Device settings > PIN/Parental controls > choose when a PIN is required for purchases, subscriptions and adding apps > Save.

5) Turn off ACR and ad tracking on smart TVs

Smart TVs often include Automatic Content Recognition, or ACR. It can identify what appears on your screen for ads, analytics or recommendations. Turn it off during setup or immediately after setup.

Samsung TV: Press Home > Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Terms & Privacy or Privacy Choices. Turn off Viewing Information Services. Also review Interest-Based Advertising and Voice Recognition Services.
LG TV: Press Settings > All Settings > Support > Privacy & Terms. Look for Live Plus, Viewing Information or advertising options and turn off tracking you do not want.
Roku TV: Press Home > Settings > Privacy > Smart TV Experience. Uncheck Use info from TV inputs. Then go to Advertising and turn on Limit ad tracking.
Amazon Fire TV: Go to Settings > Preferences > Privacy Settings. Review Device Usage Data, Collect App Usage Data, Interest-Based Ads and Automatic Content Recognition if that option appears.
Vizio TV: On newer Vizio TVs, go to All Settings > Privacy & Legal > Viewing Data and turn it off. On older models, go to System > Reset & Admin > Viewing Data. Also review Interest-Based Advertising and Voice Recognition Services.

6) Limit location, camera and microphone access

Phones and tablets often ask for more access than an app needs. Give each app the least access possible.

iPhone or iPad: Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. Tap each app and choose Never, Ask Next Time or While Using the App. Then review Camera, Microphone, Bluetooth, Contacts and Photos in the same Privacy & Security menu.
Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet: Open Settings > Security and privacy > Permission manager. Review Location, Camera, Microphone, Contacts, Nearby devices and Photos and videos. Change apps to Ask every time, Allow only while using the app or Don’t allow when access isn’t needed.

7) Disable wireless features you do not use

Turn off Bluetooth when you do not need it. On phones, tablets and TVs, also look for Nearby Share, Quick Share, AirDrop, file sharing, screen mirroring and remote access.

iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings > General > AirDrop. Choose Receiving Off or Contacts Only.
Samsung Galaxy or Android phone: Open Settings and search for Quick Share. Tap Who can share with you, then choose a more private option such as Your devices or Contacts instead of making your phone visible to everyone.
Smart TV: Open Settings and check Network, Connection or External Device Manager. Turn off remote access, screen sharing or mobile device connection features you do not use.

8) Turn on lost-device protection

Set this up before the device goes missing.

iPhone or iPad: Open Settings > your name > Find My > Find My iPhone or Find My iPad. Turn on Find My, Find My network and Send Last Location.
Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet: Open Settings > Security and privacy > Lost device protection. Turn on Allow this phone to be found, Send last location and Offline finding.
Other Android phone or tablet: Open Settings > Security > Find Hub and make sure Allow device to be located is turned on. The wording may vary by brand.

For tablets used by kids or guests, write down the serial number. Keep it somewhere safe in case you need to report the device lost or stolen.

9) Remove apps you do not need

New devices often come with preinstalled apps. Delete or disable anything you will not use. Then install apps only from the official app store for that device.

On phones and tablets, avoid sideloading apps unless you know exactly where they came from.

On smart TVs, skip random free streaming apps with poor reviews, no clear developer or strange permission prompts.

10) Cover everything with a VPN

A VPN adds a layer of privacy by encrypting your internet traffic before it leaves your device. That can help limit what your internet provider can see and add protection when you use public Wi-Fi.

Look for a trusted VPN that offers apps for phones, tablets, computers and streaming devices. Some VPNs can also run at the router level on compatible routers. That option can be helpful because it may protect devices that do not support a VPN app, such as some smart TVs, game consoles and connected home gadgets.

Once a router VPN is set up, connected devices can receive VPN protection automatically. Just remember that a VPN does not make you invisible online. Websites may still recognize you when you log in, share personal details or use the same browser. Still, for everyday privacy, a reliable VPN can be a smart extra layer.

'Did you call 911?' Tuberville recounts Graham's frantic final phone call

A Senate Republican added further detail to the late Sen. Lindsey Graham’s, R-S.C., final moments thanks to an unlikely connection.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., revealed that it was a former member of his staff that called for medical assistance to aid Graham, who died suddenly over the weekend just after his return from an overseas trip.

"My former scheduler was Lindsey's scheduler, and one of my staff members was with that scheduler the night Lindsey called," Tuberville told reporters. "He called [and] basically said, ‘Listen, I'm having chest pains. You know, I need to do something.’ ‘Did you call 911?’ And he goes, ‘No, that's the reason I called you.’"

"And so she called 911… By the time she got there, 911 had knocked the door down, and they were working on him," he continued.

A preliminary cause of death was revealed Sunday evening. His office said the longtime lawmaker had died from "aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease."

Aortic dissection is when a tear occurs in the inner wall of the aorta, the body’s main artery, and is a life-threatening medical emergency.

"Lindsey basically worked himself to death, most of us have families, he didn’t have any family," Tuberville said. "And if we had a couple of days off, he went to that airport, and he went somewhere to try to work out something for our country."

Axios reported that in one of Graham’s final conversations, he told an unnamed source that he was feeling unwell but wanted to wait until after his scheduled appearance on NBC’s "Meet the Press" to seek medical attention.

"I can't die now. I still need to do the Russia sanctions, get Iran sorted out and do Israeli-Saudi normalization," Graham said.

His death has rocked the Senate, where emotional tributes rolled in throughout the day on Monday, the upper chamber’s first day back in Washington, D.C., since recessing for the Fourth of July.

Graham’s desk in the Senate, which is where the late Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., his close friend, once sat, was draped with a black veil and a glass bowl of sharp white roses atop it.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., in an emotional tribute to the late lawmaker, said the "halls of the Senate already feel empty without him."

"I am comforted by the knowledge that, in the end, he has just changed his address. And that one day, Mr. President," Thune said through tears. "We will laugh together again."

Graham will be succeeded, temporarily, by his sister, Darline Graham Nordone. She is slated to be sworn in to the position on Tuesday after being tapped by South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster to fill in for her late brother.

"I think this is what Lindsey would have wanted, and I plan to honor him in this way," Nordone said during the ceremony in Columbia, South Carolina. "Now to Lindsey, I miss you more than I can even put into words. But I'm going to do this, I got it."

Jericho told Fox News Digital in a recent interview he wanted his career to be remembered similarly to a great rock and roll band.

"I think it's like a great rock and roll band, you know?" he said. "I mean, the Rolling Stones just put out a new album, and it's amazing, but the Stones have been 60 years and some of the eras you like, some of the eras you hate, some of the eras you wish they would have gone away, and some of the eras you wish they would have done more, and you're still glad that they're here. I think when I'm done, people will be sad that I'm not around anymore."

He said he believed people who dislike him currently may miss him once he hangs up his boots.

Jericho is currently competing in AEW, returning to programming in April. His documentary "Vietslam" released Tuesday as well.

In the ring, he started a feud with Ricochet and ended it at Double or Nothing in a Stadium Stampede match.

Knicks' NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson spotted with sling on arm in first public appearance since surgery

It’s been over a month since the New York Knicks won the NBA title for the first time since 1973, and the "Big Apple" remains in rapture because of it.

Jalen Brunson, the NBA Finals MVP, continues to celebrate the long-awaited victory, but fans may not like what they saw in his first public appearance since getting offseason surgery done just under a month ago.

Brunson needed his left wrist surgically repaired, and for the first time since the successful procedure, he was spotted in Margate, New Jersey, with a sling around his left arm.

Brunson also had his left hand and wrist wrapped up in a picture taken with a fan at The Other Lucy Beach Grille in the shore town.

Brunson underwent surgery due to a tendon issue in his left hand and wrist, which he dealt with throughout the Knicks' historic playoff run.

However, Brunson’s estimated recovery time was six to eight weeks, which should ease Knicks fans’ minds a bit after seeing the photo.

It’s common for players to get procedures done during the offseason, as they wish to be ready for the upcoming season. Brunson is no different in this case, but any worries can be chalked up to how important he is for the Knicks to retain that title heading into the 2026-27 campaign.

Brunson averaged an NBA Playoffs-leading 28.4 points during the 19 games played for the Knicks. He also tallied 6.1 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 46.5% from the field and 36.3% from three-point territory.

Brunson, as well as his Knicks teammates, etched their names in New York history, returning the Larry O’Brien Trophy to a rabid fan base that captivated basketball fans around the globe throughout their series wins over the Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers and San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals.

Florida woman charged with murder evading police after body found in shallow grave, sheriff says

A Florida woman facing a murder charge for the death of a man found in a shallow grave is "actively evading" authorities and could be using multiple aliases while on the run, police said.

Isabelle Johnson, 38, has been charged in the slaying of 43-year-old Jason Christopher Coulthart, the Walton County Sheriff's Office announced.

Coulthart's remains were found buried on a property in Freeport, located in Florida's Panhandle, the sheriff's office said over the weekend. He was last seen on May 24 leaving the College Condominiums.

After he was reported missing, investigators "developed information" that led them to the property in Freeport, where Coulthart's body was recovered on June 25.

"This is not the news we hoped to deliver to our Niceville community," said Niceville Chief of Police Mark Hayse. "We stand with Jason's family and will continue working closely with our partners to see this case through."

Investigators believe Johnson was involved in Coulthart's death and have issued a warrant for her arrest.

She is believed to be "actively evading law enforcement," the sheriff's office said. Authorities have not disclosed her relationship with Coulthart.

Johnson could be using multiple aliases, including Harley, Jessica Elaine Bowman, Jessica Elaine Thrush, Jessica Dowdy, and others, authorities said.

Three other people have been arrested in connection with the killing. Michael Ray White, 74, and Kathleen Morris, 59, of Santa Rosa Beach, were arrested for accessory to a capital felony after the fact and obstruction. Investigators believe White knowingly helped Johnson evade law enforcement between June 25 and 30.

Morris was arrested after admitting she helped Johnson with transportation and supplies, as well as misleading law enforcement officials over Johnson being at her home, Fox 10 News reported.

"Anyone found to have helped or who is still assisting Isabelle Johnson avoid arrest will be charged accordingly," said Walton County Sheriff Michael Adkinson. "If you give her a place to stay, help her hide, or lie for her, you will face consequences. This is a homicide case. We will not allow anyone to get in the way of this investigation."

Authorities released surveillance video that captured Johnson inside a business, days after Coulthart's remains were discovered. She may have changed her appearance since, the sheriff's office said.

The All-Star Game is always one of the most exciting events on the Major League Baseball calendar, and 2026 is no exception.

Airing on FOX from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET, with pregame coverage starting at 7 p.m., this year's All-Star Game pits some of the best players in baseball against each other.

Derek Jeter, David Ortiz, Alex Rodriguez, Kevin Burkhardt, and Ken Rosenthal will provide pregame coverage and analysis, along with special guest Jon Bernthal presenting a tribute to players who served in the armed forces voiced by Morgan Freeman. There will also be a tribute to legendary NBA star Julius Erving, who played the vast majority of his career in Philadelphia.

Big stage, star players, and plenty of exciting young players getting their shot on a national platform. Here's some of the most interesting, exciting storylines to follow.

Mike Trout

Trout made his last All-Star Game appearance in 2023, as the 34, soon to be 35-year-old has battled injuries for most of the past few seasons. But a rejuvenated Trout has once again proven to be back at the top of his game in a mostly healthy first half. While he's a surefire first-ballot Hall of Famer, you never know how much longer he'll be able to maintain his production as he ages, making every opportunity at a national level must-see TV. Not to mention that the Los Angeles Angels', uh, struggles, to reach the postseason mean that the All-Star Game is the biggest showcase Trout has.

Young stars

Both the American and National League teams will feature some of baseball's brightest young players, some making their first appearance on such a large stage.

Tampa Bay Rays star Junior Caminero starts in the outfield after an outstanding first half that proved his 2025 season was no fluke. Playing the first half at just 22-years-old, Caminero hit 28 home runs in his team's first 94 games, putting him on pace for 48 over a full season, with an outstanding 12.9% walk rate. Already, he's been 24 runs more valuable on offense than the average hitter, and the national platform can help deservedly raise his profile.

Ben Rice, of the New York Yankees, starts at first base, and while he's frequently overshadowed by teammate Aaron Judge, he's quietly been one of the most productive hitters in baseball the past two seasons. Thus far in 2026, he's been 66% better than league average on offense.

The National League starting lineup features shortstop CJ Abrams and outfielder Andy Pages. Abrams has been a bit of a throwback style player, hitting 20 home runs and stealing 15 bases in the first half with a .275 batting average. Another player who doesn't get the attention he deserves thanks to playing in Washington, DC, Abrams is still just 25 and establishing himself as one of the most exciting young shortstops in baseball. Pages similarly gets overshadowed, thanks to playing in LA, but he's turned into a defensive force and he's been the second most valuable offensive player in the Dodgers star-studded lineup. Not to mention that 2025 Rookie of the Year Drake Baldwin, catcher for the Atlanta Braves, starts behind the plate.

Both teams have a deep bench of young players, with the AL featuring rookie Kevin McGonigle, surprising Chicago White Sox infielder Miguel Vargas, outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela, and Japanese import Muetaka Murakami, who's hit 20 homers in just 60 games.

The National League has Sal Stewart, having an impressive season for the Cincinnati Reds, Pete Crow-Armstrong, who's turned his season around and seems headed for another 30-30 campaign with the Chicago Cubs, and James Wood, rapidly becoming one of the most feared hitters in the sport with the Nationals.

Fireballers

If there's one thing that's become vitally important across modern baseball, it's velocity. And the All-Star Game will have plenty of it, particularly with several pitchers knowing they'll be pitching in shortened stints.

Chase Burns, who averages nearly 98 mph on his fastball, has been outstanding for the Cincinnati Reds. Paul Skenes makes his second All-Star Game appearance as he establishes himself as a perennial Cy Young candidate. Jhoan Duran, hometown closer in Philadelphia, will bring his 100+ mph sinker to the mound, as will dominant Padres closer Mason Miller.

Then there's Jacob Misiorowski. "The Miz" has been nearly unhittable thus far, with just a 1.62 ERA and 167 strikeouts in 111 innings. Not surprising considering his fastball averages over 100mph, even as a starter, and he set a new record this year with the fastest pitcher thrown by a starting pitcher in the Statcast era.

On the AL side, Aroldis Chapman continues to sit in the high-90s even in his age-38 season, as does dominant Guardians closer Cade Smith and Blue Jays reliever Louis Varland.

Hometown favorite Christopher Sanchez starts for the NL, while Dylan Cease gets the ball for the AL.

Another Swing-off?

The 2025 All-Star Game ended regulation in a 6-6 tie, leading to a new form of tiebreaker: the swing-off. Three players, three swings, most home runs wins. And Phillies star Kyle Schwarber got the job done for the National League, going three-for-three. The format was widely praised for adding drama and deciding the outcome in quick, exciting fashion. Will we see another one in 2026?

Even with the usual dropouts and injury replacements, unfortunately including Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge, there's plenty of star-power on the field at the All-Star Game. And the raucous crowd in Philadelphia will have plenty of reasons to cheer for home stars like Bryce Harper, Schwarber, Brandon Marsh, Duran, Sanchez, and Jesus Luzardo.

Will Platner controversy sink Democrats in a crucial U.S. House showdown?

EXCLUSIVE - AUGUSTA, Maine - Graham Platner is gone, but the trail of debris left from the mounting controversies that brought down his nearly year-long insurgent Senate campaign is giving Republicans ammunition to use against a Democrat on the ballot in another equally crucial midterm race in Maine.

Former two-term Maine Gov. Paul LePage, the GOP nominee in the high-stakes battle for the state's 2nd Congressional District, one of roughly two-dozen races that may determine the House balance of power, says that Matt Dunlap, the Democratic Party's nominee, "miscalculated" by aligning himself with Platner.

LePage is aiming to flip the Democrat-controlled open seat in a mostly rural district President Donald Trump carried in the past three presidential elections. And the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is heavily targeting the race as it works to hold onto its razor-thin House majority in the midterms.

"Way, way too close to Platner. Way too close to Bernie. Way too close to AOC. That whole gang," LePage said of Dunlap as he spoke exclusively with Fox News Digital on Tuesday and pointed to Platner as well as progressive champions Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York.

Dunlap campaign manager Harry Burke, firing back, called LePage's criticism "desperate and weak."

Platner, a populist Democrat backed last September by Sanders and later by other top progressives, was challenging longtime Republican Sen. Susan Collins in a combustible and very expensive race in Maine, which is one of a handful that will determine if the GOP holds onto its slim Senate majority in November's midterm elections.

Platner's exit from the race came days after an explosive report contained an allegation of rape from a woman he previously dated. It was only after that report when a chorus of calls emerged from top Democrats across the country for him to immediately drop out.

But Platner, the combat veteran and oyster farmer whose campaign caught fire, steamrolling the Democratic establishment, had already been forced on defense ahead of his primary victory last month.

PLATNER EXITS SENATE RACE AMID SCANDALS AND CHORUS OF CALLS TO DROP OUT

Past inflammatory online comments made on a now-deleted Reddit account came back to haunt him at the same time he was already reeling from revelations of a now covered-up tattoo on his chest that resembled a Nazi symbol. Then reports that Platner exchanged sexually explicit messages with several women while married came right before allegations from ex-girlfriends of a history of rape fantasies, heavy drinking and violent episodes were made public.

Platner repeatedly called the allegations of violence untrue and dismissed his tattoo and Reddit posts as actions taken by a younger man who has now changed.

And addressing the latest rape allegation, a visibly irritated Platner claimed in his campaign suspension video last week: "This is all false. The things that have been claimed did not happen. It is not real."

Republicans see an opportunity to use Platner's toxic baggage as a cudgel against some Democrats on the ballot in key races this year — especially those who once backed the Maine candidate or defended him against previous allegations.

"Every Democrat that endorsed Graham Platner endorsed a rapist, and every Democrat that stayed silent was complicit," Republican National Committee Chair Joe Gruters argued in a statement last week. "Democrats rolled in the mud with Platner, and now they are completely stained by their association with this sick monster."

Dunlap endorsed Platner and appeared with him at a campaign event days before Maine's June 9 primary.

"Out of touch freak Matt Dunlap might be okay with Nazi lovers and men who abuse women, but in November, he'll see for himself that Mainers aren't. Dunlap's embrace of this vile human is disqualifying," NRCC Spokeswoman Maureen O'Toole charged last week.

A week ago, amid a wave of Democrats calling on Platner to call it quits, Dunlap said in a statement, "The allegations reported today are serious, and they deserve to be treated with the gravity they warrant. As such, I am calling on Graham Platner to withdraw from the race for Senate so we can all come together behind a nominee who can successfully carry the torch in November."

Burke, Dunlap's campaign manager, is pushing back against the GOP's incoming fire.

"Paul LePage is an absolute fraud. He abandoned Maine, moved to Florida, and pocketed a Florida homestead tax break every year since he left," Burke charged, as he pointed to past scrutiny LePage faced after he and his wife utilized a Florida homestead tax break on their Ormond Beach property for several years.

Burke argued that "LePage might as well start packing his bags for Florida now — these so-called attacks are desperate and weak."

Democrats also question how effective any concerted push by the GOP to use Platner as ammunition may be with voters this autumn.

"Battleground district voters don't care about Graham Platner, CJ Warnke, communications director at the House Majority PAC, the top super PAC supporting congressional Democrats, told Fox News Digital in a statement.

Warnke, pivoting to affordability, argued that voters "care about how Republicans broke their promise lower costs by passing a toxic agenda of tariffs, new wars, and devastating health care cuts. Meanwhile, Democrats are running on making life more affordable and rooting out corruption, and in November we're going to win."

The call’s distressed and disturbing audio reveals graphic detail of how Conor Hanlon found his bloodied wife.

Brooke Hanlon, 35, was found fatally stabbed inside her Chester, New Jersey, home on June 6. No one has been charged in her death and Hanlon has not been accused of any crime or wrongdoing.

Fox News Digital attempted to reach Conor Hanlon, but calls were not immediately returned.

Internet sleuths are dissecting Hanlon’s frantic tone of voice and his word choice, like referring to one of Brooke’s wounds as a "laceration" in the nearly seven-minute call.

That’s exactly the kind of analysis that has led to devastating mistakes, Leonard said.

He pointed to multiple murder investigations where innocent people were publicly vilified because of how they sounded while calling 911.

One case he references is that of the father of Isabel Celis, Sergio Celis. He reported his 6-year-old daughter missing from their Tucson, Arizona, home in 2012.

Investigators discovered her remains five years later; leading up to this discovery, Celis was branded a killer, Leonard says.

"For six years all of the supposed amateur experts said he did it," Leonard said.

Ultimately, Christopher Clements , a convicted sex offender, was also convicted of young Isabel’s murder and kidnapping.

In another notorious case, then-teenager Marty Tankleff, of Long Island, New York, spent 17 years in prison, wrongfully convicted.

Prosecutors zeroed in on his alleged calm demeanor following the killings of his parents; that conviction was eventually overturned.

"Everybody is so different," Leonard said. "There are no reliable markers."

He goes on to say, "We should not rush to judgment."

As for the call itself, he said, "You don’t do a murder investigation with one bit of data."

Navy veteran who beat CNN in court says CIA wants him to delete, burn book manuscript: ‘That's censorship’

Zachary Young, the U.S. Navy veteran who defeated CNN in a high-profile defamation case, is accusing the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of "censorship" for trying to stop him from releasing a spy memoir about his life.

Young, who is CIA-trained, successfully alleged that CNN smeared him by implying he illegally profited when helping people flee Afghanistan on the "black market" during the Biden administration's military withdrawal from the country in 2021. During the trial, Young outlined his extensive training in things such as "brush passes," and other sophisticated ways to exchange sensitive information in hostile areas without being detected.

Young has since teamed up with "American Sniper" co-author Scott McEwen for a memoir called "American Spy," but he says the CIA withheld permission for the book to be published. Young said he sent his former employer a manuscript for prepublication review, noting that the book wouldn’t contain classified information and that his involvement with the agency was already part of the public trial record after the CIA confirmed his background to CNN reporters.

The CIA Author Review Office (ARO) not only rejected his book but also told Young, who signed a nondisclosure agreement during his time with the agency, to delete the manuscript altogether, according to a letter the Navy veteran said he received earlier this month.

"The manuscript cannot be published or disclosed as written, because the manuscript is predicated upon sensitive information subject to your nondisclosure agreement. In issuing this denial, we reviewed the additional materials you submitted with the manuscript, but must stress that these materials did not constitute confirmation or acknowledgment by the organization of the information contained in the manuscript or alter the status of the sensitive information," the letter obtained by Fox News Digital stated.

"Therefore, you must delete any and all copies containing the sensitive information. Electronic copies should be deleted from your hard drive, mobile device, the cloud, and any backup or remote storage locations," the letter continued. "Ensure these items are also deleted from ‘Recycle Bin’ and ‘Trash’ folders. Please shred or burn hardcopies."

Young, who was given 30 days to appeal the ruling but said he didn’t receive the letter at his residence in Austria until the window was halfway closed, blasted the agency.

"I kept America's secrets for most of my adult life without recognition. The CIA's own director of public affairs confirmed my employment, in an official capacity, to a journalist she knew was writing a story about me. Now that same agency wants me to burn my own life story to cover its embarrassment. That's not national security. That's censorship. CNN didn't intimidate me, and the CIA won't either," Young told Fox News Digital.

The CIA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

According to a press release for the book, "American Spy" will tell the story of "an American who spent years working undercover in hostile environments and denied areas, operating in the hidden world of international espionage." William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins, was expected to release the book later this year.

HarperCollins did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In addition, NewsBusters reported that the person who served as CIA public affairs director when Young’s affiliation was confirmed to then-CNN correspondent Alex Marquardt had previously worked for CNN from January 2017 to January 2020.

"According to sworn testimony and contemporaneous CNN communications introduced at trial, she confirmed my former CIA employment to a CNN reporter while he was reporting the story. That was not some random leak. That was the agency’s own press office communicating with the media through its official spokesperson. Given that, it is hard to understand what the agency’s objection to my book could possibly be, especially since they have never once identified in writing a single passage they claim is classified," Young told Fox News Digital.

JURY FINDS CNN COMMITTED DEFAMATION AGAINST NAVY VETERAN, SETTLEMENT REACHED ON PUNITIVE DAMAGES

"A CNN reporter went to the CIA, the CIA’s official public affairs office confirmed my background, CNN then aired a defamatory story about me, and now the agency is trying to block my book about what happened," Young continued. "That raises serious questions, and I think the public deserves answers."

CNN declined comment.

In 2025, a six-person jury decided Young was owed $4 million in lost earnings and $1 million in personal damages such as pain and suffering, and said punitive damages were warranted against CNN. A settlement was reached before punitive damages were decided by the jury.

The foreman of the jury, Katy Svitenko, told Fox News Digital in her first interview following the trial that the jury was "willing to go as high as $100 million, somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 million to $100 million." Settlement terms were not disclosed.

CNN has previously said it would take "useful lessons" from the decision.

"We remain proud of our journalists and are 100% committed to strong, fearless and fair-minded reporting at CNN, though we will of course take what useful lessons we can from this case," a CNN spokesperson told Fox News Digital following the trial.

Treasure hunters recover rare silver bar from legendary shipwreck off Florida Keys

Treasure hunters in Florida recently uncovered a 22.5-pound silver bar from a legendary shipwreck — the first of its kind recovered in nearly three decades.

Divers with Mel Fisher's Shipwreck Expeditions, working from the salvage vessel DARE, found the silver bar at the wreck site of the Nuestra Señora de Atocha.

Captain Drake Nicholas and the crew recovered the silver bar from about 50 feet of water off Key West, Florida, according to a press release.

The Atocha, a Spanish treasure galleon, sank in a hurricane off the Florida Keys in 1622 while carrying silver, gold and emeralds.

The wreck's famed "Mother Lode" was discovered by treasure hunter Mel Fisher's team in 1985 and continues to yield artifacts more than four decades later.

The team was alerted to the silver bar after detecting a "very strong target" on a metal detector, said Sean Browne, head of investor relations for Mel Fisher's Shipwreck Expeditions.

"The crew used an airlift to remove layers of sand and sediment while working slowly around the target," Browne told Fox News Digital.

"As more of the object became exposed, it became clear we were looking at a silver bar."

The silver bar was "heavily encrusted" with marine growth, Browne added, and is currently undergoing conservation to remove the buildup.

"Despite the marine growth, the bar remained remarkably intact," he said.

"One of its most distinctive features is the small depression on the top surface where it was tested for purity before being loaded aboard the Atocha in 1622."

Browne noted that, although this is the first silver bar recovered by the expedition from the Atocha since 1999, the crew has recovered hundreds of silver bars from the wreck since the ship's main treasure deposit was discovered in 1985.

Since then, the crew "has continued to recover silver and gold coins, emeralds, swords, keys, pottery, navigational instruments and many other artifacts from the Atocha and Santa Margarita wreck sites," Browne said.

"This silver bar is exciting because it reminds us that significant discoveries are still being made," he added.

"It reinforces what we've always believed: The expedition is active, the search continues, and remarkable artifacts are still waiting to be uncovered beneath the waters of the Florida Keys."

Browne estimated the silver bar could be worth between $50,000 and $100,000 today, but said its historical significance far outweighs the value of the silver itself.

Even after decades of excavations by Mel Fisher's expedition, Browne said the Atocha still holds more treasures waiting to be uncovered.

"Historical records indicate that hundreds of silver bars, along with thousands of silver coins, emeralds and other artifacts, still remain on the Atocha and Santa Margarita wreck sites," he said — noting the crew recovered three silver coins in a single day in late June.

"Every recovery adds another piece to the story and helps guide the expedition toward future discoveries," Browne added.

Homeownership remains out of reach for many Americans, but Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner reveals some states are making more progress than others.

In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Turner said Florida and Texas are "ahead of the game" on housing affordability, citing efforts to expand housing opportunities and reduce barriers to new construction.

His comments come as home costs have emerged as a major midterm issue, with elevated mortgage rates, a persistent housing shortage and rising construction costs continuing to put homeownership out of reach for many families.

Against that backdrop, President Donald Trump's HUD chief argued that increasing housing supply through state and local reforms will be critical to improving affordability, saying the Trump administration is working to reduce regulatory barriers and encourage more homebuilding nationwide.

"Florida is really ahead of the game, in particular when it comes to opportunities, and Texas is doing a great job," Turner told Fox News Digital from the National Mall last week on one of the final days of the Great American State Fair.

He said states that prioritize housing development and work closely with local communities are better positioned to keep pace with demand.

Beyond those two states, Turner said other communities are also making strides.

The comments align with what homebuilders describe as a key advantage in many fast-growing Southern states.

By easing regulatory hurdles and making it easier to build new homes, states such as Texas and Florida have been better positioned to keep pace with rapid population growth than markets with more restrictive zoning and permitting rules, industry leaders previously told Fox News Digital.

The approach has taken on greater importance as Americans continue relocating to lower-tax states, fueling demand for homes in many Sun Belt markets.

Housing experts say states that pair population growth with policies that encourage new construction are generally better positioned to accommodate newcomers without worsening housing shortages or putting additional upward pressure on prices.

Turner said the Trump administration is pursuing many of the same strategies he credited in states like Florida and Texas, including reducing regulatory barriers and encouraging new home construction to boost supply and improve affordability.

Trump to shrink 2 Utah national monuments by 90%

President Donald Trump signed an executive order drastically shrinking the size of two national monument areas in Utah on Monday.

The order applies to the Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears national monuments, shrinking their total coverage by roughly 90% from 3 million acres to 300,000. The areas were established as federal monuments by President Bill Clinton in 1996 and Barack Obama in 2016, respectively.

"They took the land from the people quite honestly," Trump said during the Monday signing ceremony. "We’re giving it back."

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox also attended the signing and praised the move, saying the original size of the monuments was far too expansive.

Local Native American groups have criticized the move, however, as both monument areas contain parts of their history, including cliffside villages and petroglyphs.

"From a Navajo perspective, Bears Ears is not simply a piece of federal public land," said Davina Smith-Idjesa, a citizen of the Navajo Nation and co-chair of the Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition. "This is a living cultural site that holds our histories, our ceremonies, our traditional foods and medicines and our ancestors’ footprints."

Protections for national monuments apply to the surrounding landscape as well, preventing drilling, mining and construction. The original designations for the two monuments contained large deposits of coal and uranium.

Paige Bueckers once again advocated for Black women in women's basketball. The Dallas Wings superstar made viral comments at a postgame press conference on Sunday after defeating the Chicago Sky, when she was asked about the number of Black female coaches in the WNBA.

There are currently no Black female head coaches in the league.

"I understand how amazing they are and how they should get the same equal opportunity as a white woman, as a white man to be an important piece of this league. And it was built on a lot of Black women, this league, so it's definitely right for them to get the same equal opportunity as everyone else."

Bueckers' comments garnered mixed reactions and debate on social media.

Bueckers has been under a brighter spotlight in recent days amid comparisons to Caitlin Clark, after former NFL wide receiver Harry Douglas claimed on ESPN that "everything we expected Caitlin Clark to be, Paige Bueckers has been in the WNBA."

The two stars have been particularly compared in terms of their cultural perceptions in conversations about race in the WNBA. After the death of George Floyd in summer 2020, Bueckers, as an incoming freshman at UConn, participated in Black Lives Matter protests in her home community of the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. She cited her love for her half-brother Drew, who is biracial and part Black, as the motivation.There is no record of Clark making any statement or demonstrating any activism after the death of George Floyd.

One year later, Bueckers stepped on stage at the 2021 ESPYs awards to accept the "Best Female College Athlete" award.

In her speech, which has since become a polarizing flashpoint in the WNBA culture wars, Bueckers insisted that Black women "don't get the media coverage that they deserve."

A true-crime YouTuber was accused of turning the street near the Nancy Guthrie search scene into a roadside livestream setup complete with traffic cones, a tripod and an alleged "pee tent."

The records, obtained by Fox News Digital, show misdemeanor cases involving three men who were cited or charged after law enforcement encountered livestreamers near the Catalina Foothills area connected to Guthrie’s disappearance.

The FBI has said Guthrie was last seen at her residence in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson on the evening of Jan. 31, 2026.

But the missing-person investigation also drew another crowd: online sleuths, streamers and true-crime personalities who showed up in the neighborhood and broadcast from near the search scene.

Alexander Zabel Jr. — "Criminal Network"

The most detailed allegations appear in the case against Alexander Zabel Jr., also known as CriminalNetwork, who was charged with obstructing a public thoroughfare and public nuisance, according to a Pima County Sheriff’s Department citation and misdemeanor probable-cause statement.

Deputies said they responded around 4:30 p.m. on May 26 to a traffic hazard and contacted Zabel, who was allegedly sitting in a lawn chair.

The probable-cause statement says Zabel intentionally placed traffic cones in the road next to his personal belongings, including a tripod he was using to livestream. Deputies wrote that Zabel’s YouTube livestream also showed him on the roadway.

The same probable-cause statement says that on June 6, Zabel set up a "pee tent" on the road "insinuating that he was urinating" and creating an unpleasant environment for surrounding neighbors.

Deputies wrote that, because of the "sensitivity & proximity to the high-profile address," Zabel created an offensive setting in the middle of the neighborhood and obstructed the free use of property.

Zabel pleaded not guilty to both counts. James Pollack, community relations coordinator for the Arizona Superior Court in Pima County, said Zabel has a show-cause hearing scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 21.

Troy Lewis Bradshaw — "DAA JUICE"

A second streamer, Troy Lewis Bradshaw, also known as "DAA JUICE", was cited by PCSD for allegedly obstructing a public thoroughfare on June 4, according to a separate Arizona traffic ticket and complaint.

He was charged with "obstructing a public thoroughfare." Unlike Zabel, Bradshaw’s court records provided to Fox News Digital did not include a narrative explaining exactly what deputies alleged he did to obstruct the roadway.

A June 16 minute entry shows Bradshaw pleaded not guilty to obstructing highway/public thoroughfare, first offense, with a fine or civil sanction listed at $282. Pollack told Fox News Digital that Bradshaw had a case management conference on Monday.

Damian Todd Enderle — "857 Tucson"

The third case involved Damian Todd Enderle, also known as "857 Tucson," who was cited June 8 for public nuisance, according to a PCSD citation.

A June 30 minute entry shows the public nuisance charge was dismissed after the state moved to drop it. Pollack said Enderle does not have any upcoming court hearings scheduled.

The bureau’s Phoenix field office and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department are continuing to investigate Guthrie’s disappearance and have asked the public for digital information, including photographs or doorbell-camera footage, that could help locate her.

President Donald Trump on Monday spent the early afternoon showcasing INDYCAR vehicles that will participate in a first-of-its-kind race in Washington, D.C. in August.

"Unprecedented events will take place next month right here in our nation's capital. On Aug. 22 and 23," Trump said, standing outside the White House on Executive Avenue where an INDYCAR pit stop was demonstrated for the president.

"It will be an awesome display of American patriotism and raw horsepower ingenuity," Trump said. "You're going to see cars at the level that they've never been at before, with cars racing more than 190 mph and even higher than that down Pennsylvania Avenue."

"It wasn't exactly designed for that," Trump joked of the upcoming race down the National Mall and streets of Washington, D.C.

"But what Sean Duffy has done with these incredible, brilliant people is really amazing. It's going to be a sight for the ages," the president continued. "It really will be something special, and they're going to go all around the National Mall at speeds that are not quite, if we did that during the regular day, I think people would be put in jail, perhaps for the rest of their lives."

Penske said that more than 250,000 members of the public have signed up to attend the events next month, which was established by an executive order Jan. 30 and is free of charge to attend.

When the remarks concluded, an INDYCAR driver demonstrated a pit stop, accelerating down Executive Avenue, showcasing the race car's roaring engines. It stopped for only six seconds at the pit stop, where the crew quickly changed all four tires before the car sped off, leaving a cloud of burning rubber behind.

The Grand Prix will take place Aug. 22-23, when INDYCAR racers, whose vehicles have the ability to top 200 mph, will zoom around the nation's capital for the first time in history, according to the White House.

The course, described as "picturesque" by the race organizers, will be a 1.7-mile seven-turn circuit including a .4-mile front stretch along Pennsylvania Avenue near the White House, according to the official website for the race.

The track's pit lane area will be adjacent to Pennsylvania Avenue, between turns one and two on the circuit, according to race organizers.

The INDYCAR field will race by a number of well-known institutions in the nation's capital, including the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, the National Gallery of Art and the National Archives.

The event offers free general admission and is open to the public. There are also a limited number of free tickets that allow attendees to access areas inside the track.

More Americans now eat in their cars than ever before as expert reveals what it says about modern life

For many Americans, eating meals in the car is a regular part of life.

In a recent survey, 53% of respondents reported that they eat in their car at least once a week. The average American does so about three times a week, according to the study, which was conducted by research firm OnePoll on behalf of St. Pierre, a Texas-based bakery.

Many surveyed said they eat in the car because they're short on time (38%). Other reasons respondents gave for eating in their vehicle included convenience (35%), because "it's peaceful" (32%) and "to eat alone" (26%).

Most people (53%) still prefer eating at a table at home, and 34% said they enjoy eating in the car. Lunch is the most popular meal people eat in their cars, according to the study.

Eating in the car is "a habit shaped by busy schedules, but also by the small windows of time people create to pause and enjoy something to eat, wherever they are," according to the study.

But Pennsylvania psychologist Geri-Lynn Utter told Fox News Digital that the trend reflects more than convenience.

"Traditionally, meals occurred in spaces associated with family, social connection and intentional breaks in the day," she told Fox News Digital.

"Increasingly, however, the car has become a kind of psychological refuge, one of the few places where many people can be alone, decompress and step away from the constant demands of work, caregiving, technology and what I jokingly call 'peopling.'"

The survey, which polled 2,000 adults in June, found those habits varied significantly by generation.

Gen Z (born after 1996) averaged 3.83 meals in the car per week. Pizza (20%), sandwiches/wraps (19%) and burgers and fruit (17%) were the most popular foods that Gen Z reported eating in the car.

Twenty-six percent of Gen Z said eating in the car is the only time they get to enjoy their food, according to the poll.

Millennials (born between 1981 and 1996) reported eating 3.22 meals in the car each week on average. They most often ate sandwiches/wraps (26%), burgers (25%) and pizza (21%). Fifty percent said they enjoyed eating in their car.

Gen X (born between 1965 and 1980) averaged 1.88 meals per week in the car, favoring sandwiches/wraps (27%), burgers (26%) and pizza, fruit and chocolate (11%) as their go-to foods.

Boomers (born between 1946 and 1964) averaged 0.84 meals in the car each week. They most often ate burgers (29%), sandwiches/wraps (24%) and fruit (10%), and many (44%) said they prefer foods they can eat with one hand.

The Silent Generation (born between 1928 and 1945) averaged 0.63 meals in the car each week. Members of the generation most often ate burgers, sandwiches/wraps (26%), fruit, nuts, seeds and pastries (13%) and ice cream (9%).

When eaten alone in the car, food becomes more than fuel, Utter said. The car has become "the modern break room" where people temporarily escape from life's stress.

"The food is the reward, but the solitude is the luxury," she said.

Food influencers often eat in their cars, Utter noted, "despite having access to virtually any setting they could use."

"The car feels private, authentic and free from social expectations," she said. "For a few minutes, there is no meeting, no email and no obligation to perform for others. The meal becomes an experience that belongs entirely to the individual."

The survey says less about Americans' relationship with food and more about their relationship with time, stress and recovery, Utter said.

"Many people aren't choosing to eat in their cars because they prefer it over a dining room table," she said. "They're adapting to increasingly packed schedules, long commutes, caregiving responsibilities and jobs that blur the boundaries between work and personal life."

It also raises the question, Utter said, "If so many people feel that the best place to slow down and enjoy a meal is alone in a car, what does that say about how stretched thin we've become?"

The royal family's icy divide appears to be thawing, but experts caution that rebuilding trust will take much more than a single meeting.

On Friday, King Charles III hosted Prince Harry and met with his family for the first time in years as they tried to repair a rift that has persisted since his youngest son and his wife stepped back as senior working royals and moved to California.

Harry, along with Meghan Markle and their two young children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, met with the monarch and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House, a country estate west of London, Buckingham Palace confirmed. Fox News Digital reached out to a spokesperson for the palace and the Sussexes for comment.

MEGHAN MARKLE RETURNS TO BRITAIN WITH PRINCE ARCHIE AND PRINCESS LILIBET FOR FIRST TIME IN YEARS

"Eager Charles has always hoped to see his grandchildren," British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard told Fox News Digital. "He is still undergoing treatment for cancer, and family matters more than ever. Despite years of public fallout, he would not pass up the opportunity to privately see his grandchildren."

Multiple royal experts told Fox News Digital that both the palace and the Sussexes are determined to keep details of the meeting private to help advance reconciliation efforts.

Katie Nicholl, Vanity Fair's royal correspondent, reported that the palace would not comment on the meeting or how long it lasted. A source told Nicholl that the king was "adamant" about keeping the meeting private, and Harry "assured" his father that he wouldn't speak publicly about the family get-together.

"Archie and Lili were very excited about seeing their grandfather," a source told Nicholl, adding that "there have been calls from a rather frantic Harry to his father's aides, trying to make this happen."

"The meeting reportedly lasted just over an hour, with Camilla right by the king's side," British royals expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital. "The king had wanted contact with Archie and Lilibet, saying, ‘blood is blood.’"

"There is likely to be ongoing communication between Harry and King Charles as long as Harry doesn't leak information to the media," Fordwich added.

Noticeably absent from the reunion were Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton. The Princess of Wales was supporting her husband as he saddled up to participate in the DMI Royal Charity Polo Cup 2026 at Guards Polo Club in Windsor. The estranged brothers did not see one another.

"Prince William remains adamant Harry isn’t to be trusted," Fordwich claimed.

"Reports still describe a 'total blackout' between the brothers," said Chard. "There is no sign of the rift subsiding anytime soon. I don't see the Prince and Princess of Wales' absence as a snub. It is strategic. You can't have an institutional reconciliation without Prince William, the future king."

"The main barrier for Harry now is starting peace talks with William and Princess Kate, if that can happen," royal broadcaster Ian Pelham Turner told Fox News Digital. "William has been demonstrably against Harry since his book 'Spare' was published."

Roya Nikkhah, royal editor of The Sunday Times, reported that the brothers have not seen each other or spoken since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.

"What will the Prince of Wales make of his father’s olive branch to the Sussexes? He won’t like it, that’s for sure," she wrote. "While William now rarely speaks of Harry in royal circles, his feelings of betrayal by his brother’s departure from the monarchy and subsequent outbursts still sting."

As for Camilla's appearance, Nikkhah reported that she "rarely" stays at Highgrove, preferring to spend weekends at Raymill, her country home. However, she is fiercely loyal to Charles and wanted to be a supportive force for her husband.

Still, Nikkhah noted that "there is no love lost between Harry and Camilla." In "Spare," the Duke of Sussex accused his stepmother of leaking private conversations to the media to burnish her reputation. In interviews, he accused family members of getting "into bed with the devil" to gain favorable tabloid coverage.

"Camilla's presence matters to Charles," said Chard. "She is his rock and smooths any bumps in the road."

Still, the meeting between father and son was a step in the right direction, Turner said.

"This reunion allowed a thawing of the ice," he said. "The king is very family-oriented and has a deep sense of conviction about being a grandfather. This meeting was very important to reopen communication, even though some family members, like William, may be strongly opposed. But in my opinion, a united royal family with important connections to America is good for the royal brand and has value for both countries."

"What needs to happen now is that reconciliation talks should not be disclosed to the media and should be conducted in confidence, without any leaks," he said.

"The meeting between the king and his grandchildren was long overdue," Chard said. "It is, however, a delicate balancing act for the crown. Symbolically, this meeting was huge, but it's not an institutional reconciliation. Charles had always left the door open. I guess it's a few small steps forward."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back as senior royals in 2020, citing what they described as unbearable intrusions by the British press and a lack of support from the palace. They later aired their grievances publicly. Harry's memoir further strained his relationships with members of the royal family.

In a 2025 BBC interview, Harry said he hoped to reconcile with his family because "there's no point continuing to fight anymore."

The private reunion came after weeks of planning and lingering security concerns surrounding Harry's return to Britain.

The Sussexes were vacationing with their children in Europe before Harry returned to the U.K. alone on July 6, according to People magazine. Meghan was expected to join Harry with the children, but the U.K. government declined his request for police protection for his family outside royal residences. Harry remained in the U.K. through July 11 for events highlighting the Invictus Games.

People previously reported that, ahead of Harry's trip, his team spent several days exploring ways to make the visit safe through enhanced private security arrangements. Palace sources said Harry initially declined an invitation to stay at a royal residence before accepting it on Saturday, July 4.

Harry's spokesperson told People that an offer for the Duke of Sussex to stay at Buckingham Palace during his London visit was withdrawn after he had formally accepted it. Palace sources, however, disputed that account, saying Harry failed to respond by the deadline and that his later acceptance came only after arrangements could no longer be made.

Harry had also hoped to bring his family to Britain for the first time since 2022. However, after learning they would receive police protection only while on royal property — and not throughout the visit — People reported on July 4 that they would not accompany him.

On July 8, The Mirror reported that Harry was "frantically" working to secure private security so Meghan and their children could travel to the U.K. safely.

Nikkhah reported that the Sussexes likely made an under-the-radar visit to Althorp, Princess Diana's ancestral home, where they were believed to have visited her resting place. The estate was notably closed to the public on July 10 and 11, when the Sussexes were in town. Fox News Digital reached out to an Althorp spokesperson for comment. No reunion between the estranged brothers was expected there, either.

Supreme Court justices head to Capitol Hill for first congressional appearance since 2019

Supreme Court Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Elena Kagan are set to make a rare Capitol Hill appearance Tuesday to testify on the high court’s proposed fiscal year 2027 budget.

Their appearance before the House Appropriations subcommittee comes just weeks after the Supreme Court concluded a highly consequential term, delivering major wins for President Donald Trump, including expanding his executive authority, while also ruling against key parts of his agenda, such as his executive order restricting birthright citizenship and his Liberation Day tariffs.

Barrett, a member of the court’s conservative supermajority, joined Kagan and the court’s liberal justices in voting against Trump’s citizenship executive order.

The pair is slated to appear before the House committee at 10 a.m. Tuesday, which will be followed by them testifying before the Senate Appropriations Committee later in the afternoon.

MORNING GLORY: THE SUPREME COURT OFFICIALLY CLOSES THE BOOKS ON ANOTHER TERM

Supreme Court justices last testified before Congress in 2019, when Kagan, a member of the court’s liberal wing, and Justice Samuel Alito, part of its conservative majority, appeared to discuss the court’s fiscal year 2020 budget request.

In next year's budget, the Supreme Court is requesting a $20.5 million increase, with $14.6 million earmarked to strengthen security protections for justices and an additional $2 million to cover security costs at the justices' homes. The funding increase would cover the cost of staffing an additional 25 full-time Supreme Court Police officers.

In total, the Supreme Court is requesting a budget of $228 million for the 2027 fiscal year.

The request for additional security funding comes after Congress approved a $30 million increase for the Supreme Court's security budget in January, which is expected to last through September 2028.

At the time of the additional funding approval, the U.S. Marshals Service, which is tasked with protecting the Supreme Court, had tracked 166 threats against federal judges since Oct. 1. The year before, more than 560 threats were made against judges.

"We just want to make sure nothing happens to any of our justices," House Appropriations Chair Tom Cole, R-Okla., said at the time.

The protection remained in place after the attempted assassination attempt against Justice Brett Kavanaugh outside his Maryland home the following month.

And in May, Barrett was the target of an apparent swatting incident after a false report of gunshots at her Virginia home prompted a police response. Authorities quickly determined the call was a hoax after coordinating with the Supreme Court Police officers assigned to protect the residence.

Last year, authorities also investigated a bomb threat targeting Barrett's sister at her South Carolina home. The reported pipe bomb in her mailbox was also determined to be a hoax.

While justices have long been subjected to death threats, Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in his 2024 year-end report that threats against federal judges have more than tripled over the past decade. The U.S. Marshals Service investigated more than 1,000 serious threats during the previous five years.

The hearings on Capitol Hill come just days after Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham’s unexpected death Saturday.
