Stephen A Smith explains why he regrets voting for Harris, says her loyalty to Biden 'usurped everything else'

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith was repeatedly confronted over why he said he regretted voting for former Vice President Kamala Harris during a podcast released Wednesday, as hosts Cari Champion and Jemele Hill suggested he was targeting Black women.

"Flagrant and Funny" hosts Cari Champion and Jemele Hill questioned Smith about his comments that he regretted supporting Harris in 2024, after he said it was the Democrats' plan all along to install her as the replacement for former President Joe Biden in the presidential race.

Smith referenced the widely criticized moment from ABC’s ‘The View’ on Oct. 8, 2024, when Harris appeared and said she couldn’t think of anything she’d do differently than Joe Biden.

"Because when she went on 'The View' and she sat up there and said she couldn't think of anything that she would do differently, something that Sunny Hostin threw up intentionally as a softball for her to knock out the park. I'm like, when she passed up on that opportunity, this is not a dumb woman. This is a former state attorney general. This is a former senator. This is a former vice president of the United States. She is not dumb. There's only one reason she said that, because her loyalty to Joe Biden usurped everything else," Smith said.

He added, "And I'm like, 'You trying to win a damn presidency? This is embarrassing. Do you want the presidency or don't you?'"

Hill suggested Harris was trying to lean into Biden's accomplishments, and said, "He accomplished a lot."

"But I understand when Sunny gave her that easy layup," Champion pressed. "But still, why was it necessary to say that you regretted voting for Kamala Harris when you knew that would take all of the hard work in which she tried to put together away from what she did?"

Smith said he supported Harris throughout the election and that he made the comments afterward.

"I get where you're coming from, Cari, I really do. I think that it should have been far more upsetting if it was something that I said before the election. I did not. I supported her leading up to the election. I voted for her. I was on the airwaves talking about what it's going to take to win, win, win. And when it was over, I was honest about how I felt in the moment that that transpired," he said.

Champion accused Smith of targeting Black women specifically, and said he could have made his point about his criticisms without saying he regretted voting for Harris.

Smith countered, "Can you concede that it's a disagreement as opposed to a disparagement?"

She said she couldn't concede the point before the three turned to Smith's dispute with Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas.

Harris's office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Curtis Houck, the managing editor of the Media Research Center's NewsBusters.org, told Fox News Digital, "This level of refreshing honesty from Stephen A. Smith has sadly been in short supply for far too long. Along with ideological diversity, more commentators and journalists should be willing to admit when they're wrong or express regret. The national media demand the utmost transparency and rigorous reflection from the people they cover, so why not have it go both ways?"

Houck continued, "There's a reason why Smith is succeeding by moving outside his normal ideological bubbles. We need more of that from the ruling class, not less."

During an April interview with Sage Steele, Smith was asked about his comments prior to the 2024 election on Dave Rubin's show about voting for Harris.

"You went on his show, and you said that you voted for Kamala Harris?" Steele asked.

"Yes," Smith responded.

Steele then added, "And that you regretted it," to which Smith answered, "Yeah."

Smith went on to explain that he cast that vote because he believed Harris was capable of compromise, but said he later concluded Democrats still did not understand why they lost.

"I also believed that she was the kind of person that… could work across the aisle," Smith said. "And then when I saw how things were unfolding and how out in the clouds the Democratic Party was even after they lost the election, I just said, ‘There’s no hope.’"

In January 2025, Smith said during an interview with Bill Maher, "Yes, I voted for her, a lot of people voted for her, but in the end, we end up feeling like d--- fools, because we supported it. We fell for the okiedoke as they say. If you had a primary, the likelihood is she would not have been the Democratic nominee."

Dem Senate nominee changes tune on ICE after vowing not 'one more dime' for agency

A Democrat running for the Senate in ruby-red Arkansas once called to defund immigration enforcement, but has since changed her tune.

Arkansas Senate Democratic nominee Hallie Shoffner, a farmer and political newcomer whose first time in the political arena is this midterm cycle, is running to unseat Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., in November.

As Election Day creeps closer, Cotton has gone on the offensive against her, attacking an apparent flip-flop in her position on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the immigration enforcement agency under the Department of Homeland Security that became a political lightning rod in Congress earlier this year.

Shoffner, during an appearance in June at the Immigrant Heritage Month Business Expo in Springdale, Ark., was asked whether she would defund ICE — a position several Democrats running for office have taken this cycle, including progressives Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan and Peggy Flanagan in Minnesota.

"I would vote to defund ICE as it exists right now," Shoffner said. "Immigration and Customs Enforcement was created not that long ago, and it no longer serves the purpose it was originally created for."

"I would not spend one more dime on ICE, because — not just because of the human dignity issue — but also the fact that it is now the largest law enforcement agency in the country," she continued. "It has 10 times the budget of the organization that fights child sex trafficking."

GOP ADVANCES ICE FUNDING PACKAGE AFTER FORCING TRUMP'S CONTROVERSIAL $2B FUND INTO RETREAT

ICE became a political third rail earlier this year after fatal shootings in Minnesota and was at the center of the longest government shutdown in history, when Senate Democrats refused to fund the agency absent stringent reforms.

That prompted Senate Republicans to front-load $70 billion in funding for ICE and Border Patrol earlier this year.

Cotton’s campaign cut Shoffner's comments into attack ads and accused her of donating to former Vice President Kamala Harris 25 times, which prompted Shoffner to further define her position.

In a Facebook post from Tuesday in which Cotton was asked by a voter about Shoffner’s ICE position, she jumped into the comment section to argue, "I don’t want to defund ICE, I want to reform it."

"My opponent wants to defund ICE, just like Democrat socialists Alexandra Ocasio Cortez and Abdul El-Sayed," Cotton told Fox News Digital. "Doing so would protect criminals from deportation, like the illegal alien gang member who was arrested in Carroll County just days ago. Defunding ICE would make Arkansas more dangerous."

Shoffner’s bid to unseat Cotton, who is running for a third term in the upper chamber, is one of the tougher battles during this midterm cycle for Democrats.

Arkansas hasn’t sent a Democrat to the Senate since former Sen. Mark Pryor, who Cotton defeated in 2014. Shoffner also doesn’t have the backing of the Democratic establishment, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., in Washington, D.C.

Shoffner has put distance between herself and Schumer, too, telling Politico in March that while Democrats had found the issue of affordability to be a "magic bullet" at the national level, Arkansans were going to give Schumer "the side eye, because what does he know about affordability?"

Three new companies face Josh Hawley's investigation into AI surveillance and vehicle tracking

Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., is expanding his investigation into alleged privacy violations from Flock Safety cameras to three additional companies amid concerns about the handling of images and data generated by AI-backed surveillance cameras.

Hawley put Motorola Solutions Inc., Verkada Inc. and Axon Enterprise Inc. on notice in a series of letters that the lawmaker sent on Wednesday.

"On August 26th, I wrote to your competitor Flock Safety to express my concerns regarding the size and pervasiveness of its network and demanding answers as to reports of abuse and costly errors from its technology," Hawley’s letter to the three companies reads. "However, Flock does not stand alone in this industry; you and others are building large camera networks, assisted by artificial intelligence, that intrude on the privacy of all Americans."

Hawley, who serves as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism, has been vocal about his concerns that Flock Safety cameras undermine personal privacy with an AI-powered system that tracks the movements of Americans.

"Americans do not surrender their privacy rights when they drive to work, drop their kids off at school or go to church," Hawley said in a post on X last week. "I’m investigating Flock cameras to determine WHO has access to hundreds of millions of Americans’ data - and what they’re doing with it."

POWERFUL CRIME-FIGHTING SURVEILLANCE GROWTH SPURS LAWMAKERS TO ISSUE WARNING: 'ORWELLIAN'

Hawley asked each of the companies to explain how broadly customers can search vehicle data, how long the company retains license plate information, how many confirmed cases of misuse have occurred since 2021 and what safeguards are in place to ensure law enforcement officers provide legitimate justifications before conducting searches.

"We received the letter and have reached out to Senator Hawley’s office to discuss his requests," an Axon spokesperson said. "We welcome the opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to safety and responsible innovation."

A number of politicians have taken action against AI-powered cameras, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ordering the removal of all license plate reader cameras from Florida state roads and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ordering all state agencies to stop spending state money on Flock Safety cameras.

FLOCK SURVEILLANCE SPREADS ACROSS THE SOUTH AS RED-STATE LAWMAKERS SEEK TO AX '1984'-STYLE TRACKING TOOLS

Flock Safety cameras use artificial intelligence to automatically track and identify vehicles and license plates for local law enforcement use. Nationwide concern has grown about whether the AI-backed system should be allowed to track the movement of vehicles without a warrant or the consent of drivers.

About 150,000 Flock Safety cameras operate in every state except Alaska.

Last week, Hawley also sent a letter to Flock Safety, requesting similar information from the company.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, a spokesperson for Flock Safety said the company would comply with the investigation.

The growing backlash against Flock cameras illustrates an unusual convergence: Republicans and far-left activists are arriving at the same target from sharply different ideological directions. While GOP lawmakers are focused on privacy, government overreach and protecting Americans from warrantless tracking, socialist and communist organizers have folded the cameras into a broader campaign against artificial intelligence, policing, immigration enforcement, the construction of data centers and the demonization of the United States as a "police state" and "AI surveillance state."

Over the past year, far-left organizations within a network funded by pro-China, Shanghai-based tech tycoon Neville Roy Singham have built vocal community campaigns against the Flock Safety cameras, while also targeting the construction of data centers. The GOP, including President Donald Trump and administration officials, have been leading voices of support for the continued construction of data centers.

In May, the Party for Socialism and Liberation’s Denver chapter partnered with Indivisible and the far-left Sunrise Movement and promoted a forum examining the "connections between mass surveillance and data centers and how BOTH only serve the needs of billionaires and not our communities."

MARXIST ORGANIZER LEADS CAMPAIGN AGAINST VIRGINIA AI DATA CENTER AS FOREIGN INFLUENCE CONCERNS MOUNT

By July 25, in Tucson, Ariz., the local Party for Socialism and Liberation chapter joined "deFLOCK Tucson" and the "No Desert Data Center Coalition" for an event called "It’s ALL Connected" at the "Global Justice Center" on E. 26th Street.

The promotional material asked what mass surveillance, data centers and electric power had in common. The answer: "IT’S ALL CONNECTED."

In a new report, "The Compute War at Home," commissioned by Consumer Action for a Strong Economy, the authors note that "money, media, organizing capacity and campaign objectives converge in the same ecosystem."

"Issue pairings rarely multiply fourteen-fold in a matter of weeks without a catalyst, particularly when the surge begins immediately after organizers start promoting the connection," the report states.

A 70-year-old Florida woman was confronted by law enforcement Thursday after she allegedly opened fire inside the lobby of the Port Orange Police Department, its chief said.

The department said there is currently "no threat to the community" and "all officers and employees are safe and accounted for" following the incident that unfolded around 8:30 a.m. local time Thursday.

"Shortly after 8 o'clock this morning, we had an individual enter the main lobby of the police department. That person was a 70, roughly 70-year-old White female, holding a firearm, a handgun," Port Orange Police Chief Manuel Marino told reporters at the scene.

"She engages with some of our civilian staff at our front record section, brandishes the firearm at that point. She remains in the lobby for a bit of time, a few minutes, when ultimately she does fire a round inside the lobby in the direction where some of our civilian staff were working," he continued.

"A call went out over the radio, referenced an active shooter or shooting in progress. Our officers responded. She exits the front lobby and is confronted by the officers that are responding to the scene," Marino added.

"At that point, there is an officer-involved shooting. The individual was transported to the hospital, but we're not releasing her name actually pending next to kin notification at this point. We had the three officers were involved. Fortunately, none were injured. And none of our civilian staff suffered any injuries," Marino also said.

The police chief said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.

The suspect, according to Marino, was still holding her firearm when confronted by the officers.

Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., indicated in a Wednesday post on X that he would "support" Sen. Darline Graham, R-S.C., in South Carolina's U.S. Senate general election contest.

"As I said repeatedly on the campaign trail, my fight was never with other Republicans. It's with the socialist Democrats and the RINOs who enable them," Norman said in part of the post. "I respect the decision of South Carolina voters, and I congratulate Senator Darline Graham on winning the Republican nomination. I will support our Republican nominee in November because defeating the Democrats and protecting our conservative values must remain the priority."

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster appointed Graham, the sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, to fill the vacancy following her brother's death in July.

Then in August, the new senator, who was backed by President Donald Trump, defeated Norman in the South Carolina special Republican U.S. Senate primary runoff.

During remarks the day he lost the runoff last week, Norman had said he would "support" the senator the "best I can."

Divers brave deadly 'Mount Everest of shipwrecks' as famed wreck breaks apart

Some 240 feet beneath the ocean lies a shipwreck so dangerous and difficult to explore that divers have dubbed it the "Mount Everest of shipwrecks" — and it's right off the coast of the U.S.

The wreck's depth and unforgiving conditions leave little room for error. "Even expert divers have had challenges," retired U.S. Coast Guard Capt. Aaron Davenport told Fox News Digital.

Now, after 70 years beneath the Atlantic, the Andrea Doria itself is becoming another hazard as it continues to deteriorate.

"The Andrea Doria is breaking apart. And [as] it’s moving around, things are falling," Davenport said.

Longtime Andrea Doria explorer John Moyer, who has made over 100 dives to the wreck, said in a 2022 interview that divers have watched it "decay and fall apart."

Speaking to dive magazine X-Ray Mag, Moyer said the steel hull was collapsing onto itself and described the wreck as being in its "final stage" of flattening.

Previously, Divers Alert Network, a nonprofit diving-safety organization, reported that the Andrea Doria was "rapidly deteriorating," citing research from OceanGate, the company that later operated the Titan submersible that imploded during a dive to the Titanic in 2023.

That deterioration could eventually leave divers unable to experience the legendary wreck as generations before them have — even as it still attracts those willing to brave the risks while they can.

Haunted hull

The Italian liner Andrea Doria collided with the Swedish liner Stockholm off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts, on July 25, 1956 — sinking beneath the Atlantic the following morning.

Remarkably, more than 1,600 passengers and crew were rescued from the Andrea Doria, according to the U.S. Coast Guard, which assisted in the rescue effort.

Fifty-two people aboard both vessels were killed in the collision, according to the Coast Guard.

But the Andrea Doria's story did not end when it slipped beneath the Atlantic.

Divers have been drawn to the wreck for decades, lured not only by the challenge of reaching it, but also by the possibility of recovering artifacts and valuables from the famed luxury liner.

As of 2016, at least 17 scuba divers had died in connection with dives to the Andrea Doria, according to Divers Alert Network.

In 2017, British diver Steven Slater, 46, perished during an expedition to the Andrea Doria, bringing the total number of diving deaths to at least 18.

A key part of the Andrea Doria's appeal is how accessible it can be to ordinary divers, said Davenport, who is also a certified scuba diver.

With decades of experience in maritime safety and search-and-rescue operations, Davenport said the Andrea Doria differs from other famous wrecks that may require a submarine to reach.

"Other wrecks like the Titanic … are much deeper, and they require a submarine or some type of pressurized vehicle to get down to it," said Davenport, who is based in Virginia.

"This is a famous wreck that you can get to with scuba tanks."

But that doesn't mean the dive is as easy as it may sound.

Davenport said exploring the wreck requires extensive experience and preparation. "It’s considered the Mount Everest of dives because it’s so challenging, so dangerous," he said.

The expert said the wreck is littered with nets, wires, fishing line and debris, some of which can move or hang inside the deteriorating vessel.

"It’s very easy to get tangled if you’re not careful," Davenport said.

Adding to the danger, the Andrea Doria sank on its side — meaning divers who enter the wreck encounter stairways, corridors and other features turned sideways.

"You can easily get disoriented because then the stairs and everything are sideways," Davenport said.

Despite the hazards, Davenport said the Andrea Doria can still be explored by divers with the right experience, training and preparation.

"A really, really experienced recreational diver could probably do this OK," he said.

Dianna Russini's relationship with Mike Vrabel was 'in clear violation' of standards, The Athletic review says

The Athletic has released a long-awaited standards review about former reporter Dianna Russini's relationship with New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel and it paints the media entity as something of a trusting victim of a reporter who hid truth from her employer.

The report does not attempt to conclude whether Russini had a romantic or physical relationship with Vrabel that helped her reporting through the years.

But the report, authored by The Athletic's editorial director for standards and quality Mike Semel, ultimately decided that the company was uncomfortable with the relationship Russini had with Vrabel.

"Russini’s relationship with Vrabel was in clear violation of The Athletic’s standards," the report reads. "Regardless of whether the relationship was romantic, it was a breach and should have been disclosed."

Semel believes Russini didn't use her platform to promote Vrabel. But he does not delve into the obvious possibility that the reporter used the relationship to help her own career.

"I’ve not found a clear link to conclude that Russini used her platform to help promote Vrabel or help his teams during her time at The Athletic," Semel writes. "That said, there are examples of Russini writing glowingly of Vrabel that in hindsight are awkward or even uncomfortable."

And let's be clear: The Athletic should be "uncomfortable" with Russini covering Vrabel "glowingly" because it raises an unspoken possibility of a quid pro quo exchange between the journalist and the coach that might help her work product

The Athletic report cited only one story by Russini that "likely would not have happened were it not for the connection between Russini and Vrabel."

A source familiar with the report told OutKick that Russini did not speak with Semel for this report nor was her phone available for inspection by The Athletic.

The report states that on April 7, 2026, Russini contacted executives at The Athletic and The New York Times Company to tell them of an impending Page Six article that would suggest a romantic relationship between her and Vrabel.

She told her bosses the story would include photographs of the pair together, taken at a Sedona, Arizona resort. Russini apparently acknowledged a close relationship with Vrabel at that time, "but stressed that it was strictly professional," the report states.

Page Six eventually published photos of Russini and Vrabel on the roof of a bungalow holding hands and embracing. It also published photos of the pair at a pool and at a hot tub together.

It should be noted that The Athletic did not contact Vrabel in authoring this report. It did, however, speak with Russini's friends and colleagues within the company.

The report does not specify if The Athletic asked Russini to provide exculpatory evidence that would alleviate concerns the company might have about a relationship it found in violation of its standards.

And ultimately, The Athletic report makes it clear that Russini lost trust within the company because of the manner she handled the release of the New York Post's information.

"[W]hen first confronted with the photos by The New York Post," Semel explains, "Russini waited two days before telling her editors and managers. She then told a story to explain the photos that did not align with facts, raising issues of trust."

Vrabel has suffered no professional discipline from this episode, neither from the NFL nor the Patriots. Russini resigned her post from The Athletic months ago and even deleted her social media presence.

She has not commented publicly about the issue beyond social media — at least not yet.

Judge in accused assassin Tyler Robinson's case explains why death penalty remains on table in written order

PROVO, Utah — When ruling that the death penalty will remain on the table in the case against accused Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson, Utah Fourth District Judge Tony Graf Jr. found that allegedly shooting someone in a crowded place alone wasn't what convinced him that there's probable cause to believe Robinson knowingly put at least one bystander in "great risk of death."

Robinson, 23, is accused of shooting the 31-year-old father of two in broad daylight at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University last year, where thousands of people were watching.

The documented positions of multiple people near Kirk when he was killed do satisfy the statutory requirement, Graf ruled.

"The Court therefore considers the actual spatial circumstances surrounding the shot, the proximity of other individuals to Mr. Kirk, and the evidence bearing on Defendant's knowledge of those circumstances," he wrote.

Kirk was sitting under a Turning Point USA-branded tent, on a small stage, responding to questions from audience members — one of whom was standing at a microphone "east of and in front of Mr. Kirk," Graf wrote. There was a security guard under the tent with Kirk and two more nearby, to the left and right in front of the canopy.

The fatal gunshot is alleged to have come from the east — the rooftop of the Losee Center on the far side of the courtyard.

The first part of Graf's reasoning is based on those "documented positions," Graf wrote.

"Second, the physical evidence establishes that the shot was fired from an elevated position approximately 415 feet from the canopy and 68 feet above it, and that the bullet traveled anatomically from front to back and downward after striking Mr. Kirk," he continued.

Because the bullet did not exit Kirk's body, Graf wrote that he did not "assign a quantitative probability" of ricochet, over penetration "or a hypothetical deviation in aim."

"Rather, the relevant evidence is that Defendant allegedly discharged a .30-06 rifle toward a seated victim while several other individuals occupied positions in and around the canopy area," he wrote. "Viewed favorably to the State, their documented positions in relation to the intended target, considered together with the elevated location and downward direction of the shot, permit a reasonable inference at the preliminary-hearing stage that at least one third party was within the relevant zone of danger and that the risk was more than an abstract possibility."

Thirdly, he wrote, the state showed probable cause that Robinson was aware that people near Kirk were in danger after allegedly visiting the scene in advance and having a scope on his rifle.

"From the southwest roof area, there was a clear line of sight to Mr. Kirk's canopy," Graf noted. "The rifle also contained an optical accessory. Without making findings about the degree of magnification or precisely what Defendant saw through the optic, these circumstances support a reasonable inference that Defendant was aware that other individuals were positioned near Mr. Kirk when he fired."

Robinson faces seven charges total, all of which Graf green lit for trial.

The top charge, aggravated murder, is the only one that carries the potential for capital punishment. It requires prosecutors to show that "the defendant knowingly created a great risk of death to another individual other than Charlie Kirk and the defendant."

Other charges include felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, obstruction of justice, witness tampering and committing a violent offense in front of a child. The violent offense in front of a child allegations reclassify count 7 from a class B to a class A misdemeanor and are a sentencing consideration for count 2.

Another aggravator is that prosecutors allege that Robinson targeted Kirk over his political expression — which does not factor into the potential death penalty.

The reasoning is laid out in the official written order binding over the case against Robinson for trial, which was published Wednesday — and it mirrors what Graf said in court earlier this week.

Kathy Nester, one of Robinson's defense attorneys, entered not guilty pleas on his behalf to all charges Tuesday.

Silva took to Instagram on Tuesday to celebrate her husband's special day. "No one I rather spend my life with, happy birthday, I love you, we love you 🥰," she captioned her post, which included an image of the couple hugging.

Also included in the post was a picture of their son, James Gere, joining in on the hug. Silva also shared an image of her sitting on a bench with their family pets.

‘This is real bad’: 911 call reveals frantic moments after autistic daughter, 5, vanished in South Carolina

A 911 call made moments after a 5-year-old autistic girl disappeared from a South Carolina rental home captures her father reporting her missing and saying he needed to check the nearby water.

A massive search ended Monday after authorities found Saylor Hayes’ body in waters near Pawleys Island, South Carolina. Her parents were arrested in Tennessee the following day.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office said John Herb Hayes III, 70, and Geordyn Nichole Hayes, 31, were arrested Tuesday evening in Tennessee and booked into the Carter County Jail on fugitive-from-justice charges.

As the call continued, Hayes began searching the property and said he needed to check the water.

Georgetown County dispatch records show a deputy arrived within minutes. Dispatchers noted that the caller was near water and later recorded that Hayes was searching the house because he could not stay on the phone while looking for Saylor.

The records show officials also sought information about a Project Lifesaver tracking device. A caller reported that Saylor had the device, but Washington County, Virginia, had the code needed to use it. Dispatchers contacted Virginia authorities and worked to obtain the equipment and the device’s frequency.

Search crews also moved quickly into the water. Dispatch notes say command was established outside the home with personnel watching the water. The response included a South Carolina Department of Natural Resources dive team, drones, a marine unit and a helicopter.

That early search activity is notable because arrest warrants allege that John Hayes and Geordyn Hayes directed search efforts toward a tracking device they knew Saylor was not wearing and away from a nearby body of water. The warrants allege the device had been removed before the family left Virginia.

The dispatch records do not establish what the parents knew about the device or what instructions they may have given searchers. They do show that law enforcement pursued both the tracking technology and the water during the initial response.

Saylor wandered from a rental home in the Hagley Estates community of Pawleys Island late Sunday morning, the sheriff’s office said. More than 200 residents searched nearby properties and guarded local docks while deputies, firefighters, state agents and other agencies joined the effort.

Department of Natural Resources agents found Saylor’s body at about 9:45 a.m. Monday in waters near where she was last seen, the sheriff’s office said. A later entry in the call-for-service record noted that the child had been found and directed DNR personnel to take her to the morgue.

"You know, the night before Talladega, I was six hours away at my buddy's place driving $500 cars, and then we win the next day. So, you know, it's always ... you just put yourself in that spot sometimes that I think in racing, when people just want to have a reason for stuff, they don't want to just be like, 'Oh, circumstance, you know?'

"They just want to dictate a reason or, you know, push a story or whatever."

Carson Hocevar and his "TikTok girlfriend"

Hocevar's popularity, both within the sport and outside of it, has exploded this summer. In July, social media sleuths started linking him to popular influencer, Tabitha Swatosh.

Swatosh has over 15 million followers on TikTok, and unleashed a video last month that tallied nearly 500,000 likes.

"A NASCAR man invited me to be his date to an event," she said in the video before showing all 15 million followers how she gets ready for said event.

Side note: No, I don't get it. Don't ask me why people watch what they watch on TikTok. I have no clue. I'm not the target audience, though.

Anyway, fast-forward a few weeks, and the two were spotting together on the starting grid before the Brickyard 400.

Pretty easy to connect the dots after this:

Which brings us to August, where Carson finished 31st, 37th, 19th and, after a late crash last Saturday at Daytona, 38th.

Not great!

Add in some off-the-track drama around Swatosh after she "wore heels to a race," which apparently didn't sit well with some fans, and it's been a rocky summer for Hocevar.

Too much TikTok girlfriend and not enough practice in the simulator? Well, if you ask championship favorite Denny Hamlin ...

"I don't know. It just was not a very good day," Hamlin said about Hocevar on his 'Actions Detrimental' podcast following a wreck at New Hampshire.

"The best thing that's come out of that camp in a month is his girl's tutorial on makeup and racing."

Whoooooooof.

Hamlin wasn't alone.

"Here’s how it goes a lot of times when you see a young driver that gets a lot of attention, had some success, wins a race," former Cup champion Kevin Harvick said last week. "Got a TikTok girlfriend. All these things that go along with all that, and then they forget that they need to drive the freaking race car.

"The guy can drive the crap out of the race car, and all the other stuff is really cool ... No one cares if your car is not fast. It does not matter if you don’t have the results.

"They will forget about you in weeks."

NASCAR is pushing Carson Hocevar, for good reason

There's certainly some truth to that. Fans want to root for a winner. Hocevar told me as much when I spoke to him earlier this week.

But if you win, and nobody knows anything else about you, that probably won't last, either.

"A lot of my friends love the WWE and they they were reading the WWE Reddit, and they're in some of the comments and they thought they accidentally switched to the NASCAR Reddit by accident because the fans over there kind of say the same stuff they do over here," Hocevar said.

"They don't understand the new guys. 'This guy is popular, and I don't understand why.' A lot of my friends, some of them love WWE and all the intricacies of that world. But the casuals of it, they're like, 'Man, I loved Stone Cold when he walked out. I never even watched him wrestle, but I liked him, and the Undertaker and their shticks.

"It's very similar to how NASCAR fans describe everything and become negative to everything. A lot of times, they're not sure what they're looking for."

NASCAR, by the way, is sure what it's looking for.

The series has been pushing Hocevar over the past few weeks in a way we haven't seen ... maybe ever?

Last Thursday, the series sent out a press release titled, "Does Everyone Hate Carson Hocevar?" It was odd. You don't see that in this business.

The story made sure to note that Hocevar is currently No. 1 driver in retail sales on the NASCAR Shop website, and ranked inside the top five of trackside sales.

He was No. 32 this time last season.

"Love him or hate him, Carson Hocevar is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore … so catch him and all his enemies this Saturday night, Aug. 29, during the Coke Zero Sugar 400," the article concluded.

So, yeah — NASCAR isn't oblivious to this. They're very clearly pushing Carson Hocevar to the center of the table, and letting the chips fall where they may.

There's a reason I spoke to Carson earlier this week. I didn't ask. He was offered. That also doesn't happen often.

It's not the worst strategy in the world. Every sport needs a villain. A lightning rod. Someone who's going to move the needle.

NASCAR, in particular, has been desperate for that driver for a decade now. Jeff Gordon retired in 2015. Tony Stewart retired in 2016. Dale Earnhardt Jr. retired in 2017.

Kyle Busch, sadly, died in May. He was undoubtedly the most polarizing driver in the sport for years. His death rocked the series in more ways than one.

So now, apparently, it's Carson Hocevar's turn.

He's got the TikTok girlfriend, as Kevin Harvick said. The social media presence. Plenty of enemies on the track. He's also got a shot at winning a Cup championship in a few months.

The only thing left to do?

Win.

"I've had people try to wreck me and they just end up wrecking themselves lately," Hocevar said with a smile, referring to Zane Smith's move at Chicagoland in July. "I think we'll just enjoy these (next) ten (races) and keep working and, you know, just see where it works out."

Scottie Scheffler recently took over the top spot on the PGA Tour's career money list with more than $130 million earned. It's fair to say that the 30-year-old who has already taken home $10 million more than Tiger Woods did in his career is doing just fine financially, but as his caddie, Ted Scott, recently explained, it's not all about the money for Scheffler.

Scheffler became the No. 1 player in the world in March 2022, amid LIV Golf's efforts to lure players away from the PGA Tour, and just three months before the then Saudi-backed circuit's inaugural event.

Scott began caddying for Scheffler in November 2021, and having been in the partnership for less than six months at the time, he was still very much in the feeling-things-out stage with his new boss, but one conversation very much set the tone.

"When I first started working for him, he was 19th in the world, and he had a white golf bag," Scott said, referring to Scheffler, on a recent appearance on PGA Tour Radio. "I didn't know him that well, and I asked him, I was like: 'Why don't you have sponsors?'

"He's like, 'Well, because I just want to play with the equipment that I want to play.' And I was like, 'Okay.' And then I remember whenever all the LIV stuff was going on, you know, he was number one in the world at the time, I didn't know, but I said, 'They're probably going to offer you like $250m to go over there.'

"And he says, 'I don't care what they offer me. They can offer me a billion dollars. I'm going to play where the best players are because I just want to beat people.'"

Scott went on to admit that it was at that moment he realized just how differently Scheffler is wired.

While Scott already had a stellar resume as a caddie before joining forces with Scheffler, having been on the bag for both of Bubba Watson's Masters victories, he and Scheffler have turned into a two-headed monster over the last half-decade.

Scott has been on the bag for each of Scheffler's 22 PGA Tour wins, dating back to his first in February 2022, plus the four major championships Scheffler has won at this point in his young career.

The privacy risk of moving to a retirement community

The moving truck hasn't even left the driveway. Somewhere, a scammer may already know three things about you: your name, your new address and something about your age. Maybe not your exact age, but potentially enough information to make you a more attractive target.

Federal law sets specific rules for communities that qualify as housing for people 55 and older. One requirement says at least 80% of occupied units must house at least one person who is 55 or older. Those requirements come from the Housing for Older Persons Act.

That means an address inside a known 55+ community can give scammers and data brokers another clue about you. Once public records connect your name to that address, data brokers can add it to a much larger profile.

That is the part nobody mentions in the moving checklist. Here is how that profile can come together so quickly. More importantly, here is how you can reduce the personal information scammers can find.

How moving to a 55+ community can expose your data

Moving into an age-restricted community does more than change your ZIP Code. It can quickly create a new, highly concentrated data profile.

Here's what can become available:

Your name and new address can appear in county property records after officials file the deed. Anyone can then search that information.
Your HOA gets your contact information. Some communities also distribute resident directories with names, addresses and phone numbers.
New-mover marketing companies identify people who recently relocated. They can then sell those details to advertisers.
People-search sites such as Spokeo and Whitepages may update listings with your new address, age range and household details.
Community Facebook groups, welcome committees and bulletin boards sometimes post new-neighbor introductions. Those posts may include names, photos or unit numbers.

Each detail may seem harmless by itself. However, scammers can combine those details to build a convincing profile of you.

Research shows scams can start soon after a move

Criminologists at Florida State University spent years studying financial exploitation inside a large Florida retirement community. Their findings should change how you think about your first few months in a new home. Residents told researchers that scammers targeted them immediately and repeatedly after they moved into the retirement community. They also faced scams far more often than before their move.

One of the study's authors, Julie Brancale, told AARP that residents faced targeting almost immediately after moving in. She said the attempts then continued. Her colleague, Thomas Blomberg, described another problem. People may move into gated communities expecting greater safety during retirement. Instead, they can face repeated scam attempts.

AARP's reporting on The Villages also highlights real cases of financial exploitation. The Villages is the country's largest 55+ community and has more than 150,000 residents. For example, a pair posing as pool contractors allegedly collected nearly $200,000 in down payments from six residents. Police later arrested them. A Leisure World resident in Maryland lost close to $800,000 in a gold-bar scam. Meanwhile, one local anti-fraud group estimates that it has recovered roughly $40 million for Florida victims over the years.

How retirement community scams can target your family

Here's the part that should get your attention. When a scammer searches for information about you, your adult children may appear too. Data broker profiles may list them as relatives and connect them to current addresses. As a result, a scam aimed at a new resident can spread to the whole family.

A criminal may never need to trick you directly. For example, someone could call your daughter and pretend to represent your new HOA. The caller could mention your real address and ask her to confirm a payment on your behalf. That request can sound convincing because the caller already knows personal details. The more information criminals collect beforehand, the easier they can make a fake story sound believable.

How big is fraud targeting older Americans?

This problem reaches far beyond individual retirement communities. The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center logged more than 201,000 fraud complaints from Americans 60 and older in 2025. Those complaints totaled more than $7.7 billion in reported losses.

The FTC estimates that the true financial impact could reach as high as $81.5 billion after accounting for unreported cases. An analysis of FBI complaint data also found another troubling link. Roughly 72% of fraud categories affecting older adults can become more dangerous when attackers have access to personal information.

The takeaway is simple. Personal information gives scammers material they can use to make a fraudulent call, text or email sound more believable.

How to protect your privacy in a retirement community

You cannot prevent every county property record from becoming public. However, you can reduce how much additional information someone finds once they start looking.

Limit what your community shares

First, ask your HOA or community manager whether you can limit or opt out of resident directory listings. Also, ask what information the community shares with other residents. If possible, remove your phone number, email address and photo from community directories.

Check what personal information appears online

Next, search your name, phone number and new address online to see what appears. People-search sites and data brokers may already connect your new location with your age range, relatives and previous addresses.

Remove your information from data broker sites

You can submit removal requests directly to people-search sites and data brokers that list your information, but doing it yourself can take a lot of time and effort. A data removal service can handle those requests on your behalf and continue checking whether your information reappears. Photographer hit in head with hard foul ball at Yankees-Angels game, carted off in scary scene

During the sixth inning of the New York Yankees’ 6-3 extra-inning win over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday, a scary scene unfolded when a photographer was hit in the head by a hard foul ball.

The photographer was sitting in the camera well on the first-base side of Angel Stadium when Yankees designated hitter Ben Rice yanked Angels starting pitcher Reid Detmers' 87-mph slider foul into the camera well. The ball came off Rice’s bat at 79.5 mph, and the All-Star slugger knew something was wrong immediately and had a concerned look on his face.

The Yankees medical staff quickly sprang into action as Mike Schuck, the director of sports medicine and rehab, jumped into the well to tend to the injured photographer. Tim Lentych, the Yankees' head trainer, called for a cart to come out.

The game was delayed for about 10 minutes as the cart came out for the photographer, with the crowd remaining silent. Rice walked away from the batter’s box and over to the camera well to watch the emergency medical staff tend to the photographer.

The photographer eventually walked off under his own power, with a neck brace on, and made it to the cart. Rice shook hands with the photographer before returning to the batter’s box.

An Angels spokesperson relayed through the photographer’s outlet that he was OK and receiving medical attention, according to the New York Post.

"Very relieved," Rice said, according to the New York Post. "I saw it, he definitely was not ready for any kind of impact there, he was looking the other direction."

"I wasn’t sure how square it hit him in the head, but definitely a scary scene, so happy to hear he’s OK."

Once the at-bat resumed, Detmers induced a flyout to center field from Rice on the ninth pitch of the at-bat.

Elon Musk’s super PAC made its first major publicly disclosed burst of midterm spending, dumping significant amounts of cash over a very short period of time into races Republicans virtually must win to retain control of Congress.

Between Aug. 19 and Aug. 31, Musk’s America PAC reported just over $800,000 in expenditures supporting Republican candidates and opposing their Democratic rivals — an average of roughly $70,000 per day. By far the largest concentration of Musk’s spending was in the Texas Senate race, where America PAC spent nearly $248,000 supporting Paxton and opposing Talarico.

Republicans are heading into the midterms with a massive cash advantage, but are struggling to secure advantageous positions in even traditionally Republican states such as Alaska, Iowa, Texas and Ohio, according to Fox News’ Power Rankings. Musk opening his pocketbook for the GOP, an eventuality that was once in doubt given his prior split with the president, could provide Republicans with a much-needed lifeline as November approaches.

Democrats running in the competitive races where Musk is spending can now credibly tie their opponents to the billionaire. Talarico, for instance, has made running against billionaire interests a focal point of his campaign, a plank that increases in relevance now that Musk has waded into his race.

Other races Musk’s PAC spent in include the Senate races in Michigan, Ohio and New Hampshire as well as a handful of competitive House races in states like New York, Florida and Wisconsin.

Alanis Morissette sues ex-tour manager over alleged blackmail, false drug trafficking claims

Alanis Morissette claimed to be the victim of a "calculated blackmail campaign" allegedly orchestrated by her "disgruntled former tour manager," according to court documents obtained by Fox News Digital.

The "Ironic" singer accused Keren Urinov of civil extortion in a lawsuit filed Tuesday, and claimed her ex-manager attempted to frame her for drug trafficking at an airport in the United Kingdom.

"While temporarily employed to manage a Morissette tour, Urinov admitted to the British Border Force that a bag seized at an airport that allegedly contained marijuana and xylazine belonged to her," the documents stated.

RAPPER FACES $2.8M LAWSUIT AFTER AXING OPENING ACT FROM TOUR FOLLOWING HER POLITICAL RANT

"Urinov now threatens to report to the British authorities that Morissette committed drug trafficking unless Morissette agrees to employ her as a tour director for fifteen years and pay her massive compensation."

The Canadian singer allegedly hired Urinov in 2025 to serve as her temporary tour manager. In July 2025, Morissette and her team were scheduled to fly from Farnborough Airport in the U.K. to Spain for a concert.

"At the airport, a British Border Force official flagged a bag for further inspection and asked who owned the bag. Urinov said the bag was hers," the documents stated.

Urinov allegedly told the team that the Border Force "had arrested her and issued her a seizure notice alleging that the bag contained marijuana and xylazine" after she admitted the bag belonged to her.

"Urinov showed the Border Force her Israeli medical marijuana license. The Border Force returned the bag to Urinov and released her," the lawsuit stated.

The following day, the touring team flew back to the United Kingdom, and upon landing, Urinov was once again detained and re-affirmed ownership of the bag and the alleged drugs inside.

"After the tour ended, Urinov and her attorney sent a series of increasingly extortionate letters to Morissette," documents stated. "Urinov threatened to file a patently frivolous lawsuit against Morissette in the United Kingdom for unspecified claims if Morissette refused to tell British law enforcement that the alleged drugs were hers."

She continued, "However, Urinov communicated, Morissette could put ‘an end to the matter’ by entering into a fixed-term, full-time employment contract of fifteen years with Urinov, under which Urinov would receive an income equivalent to that of a tour director with annual increases and bonuses."

Morissette claimed that Urinov also demanded that she arrange for an immigration attorney to obtain a work visa that would allow Urinov to work in the U.S. A demand for additional compensation was relayed if the visa could not be obtained.

"Morissette is not interested in employing Urinov for fifteen years—not only because she is a blackmailer, but also because she was a terrible manager of the 2025 tour," documents stated.

The "You Oughta Know" singer claimed Urinov made an "inexplicable error" in hotel bookings that allegedly cost the singer $70,000.

Also while on tour, "Urinov told Morissette’s team that law enforcement in a Latin American country had arrested her and a friend several years ago for smuggling drugs in a surfboard," documents stated.

"Urinov explained that she had illegally fled the country after being released on bail. This was an astounding revelation, given that Urinov had told Morissette’s team during her interview for the tour manager position that nothing in her past would cause any complications with obtaining visas or traveling, and she never mentioned her arrest or crimes in Latin America."

Morissette sued Urinov for civil extortion, fraud and negligent misrepresentation, and in addition to a jury trial, requested compensatory damages "of an amount in excess of $75,000 in damages."

33 House Dems break with Jeffries as party fractures over Israel

The House of Representatives passed a bill aimed at blocking federal funds to colleges that boycott Israel, with the vast majority of Democrats voting against it.

All but 33 left-wing lawmakers voted to block the measure, which would "prohibit an institution that participates in a non-expressive commercial boycott of Israel" from getting government funding. It would also force universities that do get federal funds to affirm their students "are not unreasonably obstructed" from studying abroad in Israel.

The measure passed 237 to 169, with all but two Republicans voting in favor. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and his top deputies were among the 167 Democrats to vote "no" alongside Reps. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., and Warren Davidson, R-Ohio.

It comes as antisemitism continues to be a growing threat in the U.S. amid Israel's war in Gaza.

Scott Wiener told CNN that people in the crowd made references to his "Israeli handlers" while berating him, a well-worn antisemitic trope.

Those divisions were present on Thursday morning as well, with Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., co-leading the legislation that his own senior Democratic leadership opposed.

Gottheimer said of the legislation in a statement, "The goal of the BDS movement is the destruction of the democratic State of Israel, America’s critical ally in the global fight against terror. BDS has no place on college campuses or anywhere in our country. But progressives, including Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., who said he otherwise opposes the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel, called it an attack on the Constitution.

"The First Amendment right to free speech does not apply only to agreeable speech. No matter how much I may disagree with BDS, and find it strategically stupid and morally repugnant, I will always fight to protect Americans’ right to speech with which I disagree," Nadler said in a statement.

Meanwhile, House Rules Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., said BDS policies at colleges created hostile environments by "marginalizing Jewish students." She said it was the government's duty to protect the equal rights of those students, who she argued were living in a hostile environment at schools with anti-Israel policies.

"They are discriminating against people of the Jewish faith," Foxx said. "Now is not the time for talk. It is the time for action."

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., said during debate on the bill that it was Jewish students who were often leading BDS movements on college campuses.

Minneapolis apartment shooting suspect was facing eviction: report

The suspected gunman in a shooting at a downtown Minneapolis apartment building that left two people dead and three police officers injured was identified as a 35-year-old resident who was facing eviction from the property, reports said.

Sources identified the individual as Carlton Neal Johnson II, according to Fox9 Minneapolis. The station reported that the suspect, who also died during the shooting, had lived at the Shoreline Plaza apartment complex since March 2025.

Court records obtained by Fox9 Minneapolis reportedly said Johnson was facing eviction for previously making threatening statements.

The records alleged Johnson assaulted another resident on the property in March, and in mid-June, he "walked around the premises with a firearm openly displayed" and entered the building’s management office, where he displayed the weapon to multiple personnel there, the station reported.

Johnson also allegedly made statements to other residents that he had obtained a new firearm and "would kill someone," Fox9 Minneapolis reported.

However, Johnson reportedly denied the allegations in the eviction proceedings and a court date had been set for Sept. 11.

Interim Minneapolis Police Chief Bill Peterson said investigators were "familiar with who this individual was," but did not reveal a motive for Wednesday’s shooting, according to The Minnesota Star Tribune.

The newspaper reported that Johnson was linked to 34 criminal cases in the Twin Cities. It described most of the cases as traffic violations, but added that Johnson previously was charged in two assaults and two misdemeanor drug cases.

Johnson also pled guilty in 2012 to violating a contact order in a domestic abuse case, The Minnesota Star Tribune reported.

Minneapolis Police Department Sgt. Garrett Parten said at a news conference on Wednesday that it's unclear how the suspected gunman died.

"Initial information indicated that one person had been shot, and additional 911 callers reported hearing further gunfire. Officers began arriving at approximately 4:39 p.m. and entered the high-rise apartment building," Parten said. "Inside, officers encountered victims and heard additional gunfire. Officers followed the sound of gunfire to the upper floor of the building and on that floor, officers encountered a haze that significantly limited their visibility. Three officers were injured, two of those by gunfire."

The drama and fallout involving Good Good golf and its controversial ad have developed into what feels like a never-ending story, and the latest chapter involves two figures seated at the top of the brand's pyramid stepping down.

President Joe Flannery, who had only been in the role for a few days when the advertisement was published, is stepping down. CEO and co-founder Matt Kendrick is also out after publicly calling out Callaway after the company cut ties with Good Good following the advertisement.

According to Business Insider, Good Good's leader of operations and finance, Alex Puchala, shared the news in a memo sent to the company on Wednesday while also announcing that co-founder Nahid Giga is stepping into an interim CEO role.

The ad was deleted, and multiple apologetic statements were made by Good Good and Callaway, but the consequences have been severe. Callaway ended its partnership with Good Good, the brand split with the PGA Tour ahead of its sponsored tournament set for November, plus Good Good apparel has been pulled from the shelves at multiple retailers, among other ramifications.

Callaway announced in a statement from CEO Chip Brewer that the "content review process was not comprehensive enough," and they have taken "appropriate internal corrective actions and significantly strengthened our approval procedures to help ensure this does not happen again."

Callaway admitted in its statement that it greenlit the advertisement before it was shared online, and that, coupled with the company deciding to end its partnership with Good Good, led to Kendrick bashing the major golf manufacturer online.

"Interesting that @CallawayGolf asks us to make an ad then approves it then asks us to take the fall then drops us in a coordinated media blitz and covers it up by giving a million dollars away thinking everyone will be ok with it," Kendrick wrote on X at 3:38 AM ET on August 28.

Kendrick also posted on X that he was "not opposed" to suing Callaway while replying to another post on the social media app, but has since deleted the post.

Trump signs government funding bill, avoiding a shutdown ahead of midterms

President Donald Trump signed a stopgap government funding bill, known as a continuing resolution (CR), into law to avoid a government shutdown ahead of the crucial midterm elections in November.

"H.R. 6500, the ‘Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2027,’ which includes a short-term continuing resolution that provides fiscal year 2027 appropriations to Federal agencies through December 11, 2026, for continuing projects and activities of the Federal Government, and extends authorities for a broad range of programs including surface transportation and veteran programs," the White House's Rapid Response team announced on X Wednesday evening.

House Democrats relented to Republicans Tuesday in a successful House vote, the second such attempt since July, punting funding the government until after the November election.

It also marks the end of months of concerns that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., would again shut the government down for political gain as they vie for control of Congress.

DEMOCRATS BLINK AS SCHUMER HELPS GOP CLEAR KEY SHUTDOWN HURDLE

There were two major funding lapses in 2026, the dispute tied to Trump’s immigration-enforcement agenda and whether Congress should impose new restrictions on federal immigration agents.

"REMINDER: Democrats put their Trump Derangement Syndrome ahead of the American people and SHUT DOWN the government for 120 days this Congress, putting American families’ and our nation’s security at risk," House Speaker Mike Johnson wrote on X.

Both top Democrats caved on pushing for another shutdown, for now. And that gave House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., who needed Democratic votes to pass the bill, a win.

But while House Democrats agreed to support the bipartisan CR that passed the Senate last month, conservatives raged about certain changes that negotiators in the upper chamber wove into the bill.

Conservatives were outraged over an unrelated measure to delay a congressionally approved hemp product ban by 30 days and a provision curbing the Trump administration’s control over federal grants.

House Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Harris, R-Md., and members of Johnson’s right flank have criticized the CR over the hemp ban delay and grant rule change, a sentiment shared by Republicans in the Senate.

"The Senate did violence to our bill," Rep. Keith Self, R-Texas, told Fox News Digital. "Hemp and the grants are the two big ones…and frankly, I just don’t think CRs ought to be on suspension…when you put it on suspension, you’re not asking for my vote, okay, you’re going to get Democrats."

Voting on a bill under "suspension" means it gets fast-tracked past multiple procedural hurdles in exchange for raising the threshold for passage from a simple majority to two-thirds.

But the modification to the grant rule doesn’t permanently kill it.

SCHUMER CAVES, HANDS REPUBLICANS SHUTDOWN WIN AFTER MONTHS OF UNCERTAINTY

Senate Republicans were assured by the administration that the push for more control over federal grants could be ready to go by the time the stopgap expires in December. Democrats argue it could be used as a tool to dictate which states do and don't get federal dollars.

Meanwhile, the CR punts the deadline to avert a government shutdown to Dec. 11, giving lawmakers a little over a month to create a new federal budget for fiscal year 2027, which begins Oct. 1.

But House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole, R-Okla., whose panel is in charge of writing those spending bills along with its Senate counterpart, told Fox News Digital that would not be enough time.

He placed blame squarely on Senate Democrats, who he argued were trying to hinder Senate Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Susan Collins, R-Maine, and her bid for re-election come November.

"They clearly do not want Susan Collins to have any success. So all of America has to suffer until they figure out who's going to win in Maine," Cole said. "We're going to risk a year-long CR, if not a shutdown. So they've just been incredibly irresponsible."

The encounters with Smith offered Gowdy a firsthand glimpse of the anguish he says prosecutors must somehow convey to jurors while remaining composed enough to make their case.

FIRST ON FOX: One of the top union leaders in the country has waded into a key Senate contest, backing the Republican incumbent in a race that could determine the balance of power in the upper chamber.

Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien is backing Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., in his bid for re-election as Republicans look to solidify their grip in the upper chamber and push back against the headwinds that browbeat the party in power during a midterm election cycle.

"Sen. Marshall has proven time and time again that he is a friend of labor," O’Brien said in a statement first obtained by Fox News Digital. "As a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, Sen. Marshall has been eager to partner with us on legislation that protects workers, even when it requires breaking rank with his own party."

"We are proud to endorse the candidate in this race who continues to be a voice for the middle-class workers of our great state, and that candidate is Sen. Marshall," Local 696 President Mike Scribner said in a statement.

"Kansas Teamsters need someone in Washington who is willing to fight on their behalf," he continued. "Throughout his tenure, Sen. Marshall has shown that he is the person for the job."

O’Brien has morphed into a notable figure in the GOP after his appearance as one of the opening speakers at the Republican National Convention in 2024.

It’s Marshall’s backing of pro-labor bills, like Hawley’s Faster Labor Contracts Act, and Sen. Ed Markey’s, D-Mass., Warehouse Worker Protection Act and his own Railway Safety Act that scored him the backing of the Teamsters. He also led the Overtime Wages Relief Act, which eliminated federal income tax on up to $10,000 of overtime wages for individuals and $20,000 for married filers as part of Trump's "one big, beautiful bill."

Marshall is running against Kansas Senate Democratic nominee Adam Hamilton, the lead pastor of the state’s largest Methodist megachurch. Kansas is a ruby-red stronghold, meaning national Republicans aren’t rushing to aid the incumbent in warding off Hamilton.

Still, Hamilton has already proven a deft fundraiser, nearly matching Marshall’s war chest in a fraction of the time.

Hamilton has so far raised just north of $4.1 million, while Marshall has brought in just over $6.2 million in a race that Cook Political Report has rated as "likely Republican."

But Hamilton will have to battle both a strong incumbent and history to have a chance at the seat. That’s because Kansas has not sent a Democrat to the Senate in nearly a century.
