DAVID MARCUS: Don't blame conservatives. It was the Left that canceled Hasan Piker

The American Left just got a taste of its own politically correct cancelation medicine as controversial podcaster and recent Democratic Party kingmaker, Hasan Piker, had his speaking engagement at the University of Washington taken off the calendar for reasons that can only be related to his, shall we say, unorthodox rhetoric.

While not explicitly attacking Hasan The Hun, as he calls himself, the school said in a statement: "Going forward, procedures will be updated to ensure the standards we have for university-hosted events like the Speaker Series are met, particularly so that we can help elevate the level of dialogue on divisive topics during a polarized time in our country."

In plain English, what they are saying is, "We have no idea if this lunatic who dresses up like Chairman Mao is going to repeat his claims that America deserved 9/11, or that Israelis are parasites, or that Stalin is misunderstood, and we don’t want to be responsible for it."

Fair enough. Even though the vast majority of conservatives and right-leaning organizations, including Turning Point USA, which knows a thing or two about having college speakers canceled, have supported Piker’s right to speak, the school is, at least, consistent in its censorship.

However, the same cannot be said for the Democratic politicians and liberal media who have been whitewashing Piker as an important young voice who deserves to be heard and now are silent themselves when he is the victim of silencing and cancelation.

Piker said as much this week after the cancelation, complaining that, "If this had happened to Charlie Kirk or if this had happened to Ben Shapiro, this would be the number one news story on [Conservative media] for a month. Will liberal outlets cover it with the same intensity?"

No, Hasan, they will not, because they are glad it is happening. They are tired of having to twist themselves in knots to defend your offensive blatherings just because DSA candidates can use you to gin up votes in low-turnout primaries.

SOME DEMOCRATS PRIVATELY DISGUSTED BY HASAN PIKER BUT ARE AFRAID TO PUBLICLY CRITICIZE HIM, HOUSE DEM CLAIMS

Even his closest pals are realizing that Piker is general-election poison, as Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, who hosted Piker at his victory party, has been oddly quiet about the cancelation.

It all makes you wonder why Piker is too toxic for the University of Washington, yet a valued and treasured voice at so many Democratic campaign events.

The left-wing politicians and pundits have spent weeks insisting Piker is a vital voice, especially for the young. But they won’t defend him when he’s silenced here, because they’re actually happy to have academia push him to the side so they don’t have to.

Meanwhile, today it is conservatives calling out the censorship of Piker for two primary reasons. First, the right always defends free speech, no matter the side, and second, they want Piker to have as big a megaphone as possible. They want to run against him in every corner and crevice of great America.

This Piker situation puts El-Sayed, along with Troy Jackson and James Talarico, progressives running for Senate in Maine and Texas, respectively, in a very tough spot. It is reasonable to ask if we will ever see Piker on their campaign trails.

To be sure, Piker is not without some leverage here. If he is being sidelined by the Democratic Party powers that be, he can appeal directly to his vaunted millions of young radicals to stand up against the party. But that is unlikely to happen.

Far more likely, is that Piker knows and understands that his value is almost entirely in primaries. General elections are a time for the communist bear to hibernate, not to hunt.

No, Hasan Piker is not going to go rogue. He will play ball until his bomb-throwing rhetoric is needed again.

For Republicans, especially in the Michigan race between El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers, there is still plenty of Piker fodder to use, even if he currently is slowly backing into the bushes like the Homer Simpson meme.

But, if Piker does want to buck the liberals and refuse to be silenced, I am sure there are plenty of conservative groups or events who will be happy to let him speak. Put another way, they're willing to give him the rope he needs to expose his offensive communist ideology as the rotten nonsense at the core of the New Democrats that it truly is.

Adam Vinatieri, a four-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday and took a swipe at his former head coach during his speech.

Vinatieri played under Bill Belichick from 2000 to 2005 and nailed a few of the most clutch field goals in NFL history as he helped the Patriots to three Super Bowl titles.

In his Hall of Fame speech, Vinatieri made a joke about Belichick’s relationship with Jordon Hudson.

"Thank you for demanding excellence every single day. Your preparation, discipline and attention to detail shaped far more than my football career," he said of Belichick. "Unfortunately, Bill couldn’t make it here today. There’s a lot going on at UNC right now.

"He may be on a recruiting trip right now, looking for the next Lawrence Taylor. I thought it was because training camp had already started. But in truth, it’s because he’s judging his girlfriend’s cheerleading competition."

Vinatieri said, regardless of the jokes, he believed Belichick to be one of the greatest coaches in NFL history.

For what it’s worth, Hudson is a renowned cheerleader. The 25-year-old has won cheerleading championships as a coach and competitor. Hudson most recently won a world title back in April with Belichick watching.

Hasan Piker, a close ally of Abdul El-Sayed, is calling for "Marxist-Leninist" punishment for those who criticize Michigan’s Democratic Senatorial candidate. As radicals and antisemites like Piker flood the Democratic Party, establishment figures are struggling to justify their alliance with extremist candidates.

Ironically, Democrats are now fulfilling the false narrative that they used against President Donald Trump after the Charlottesville protests. They are maintaining that there are "many fine people" in the Democratic Socialists of America party, despite its leaders seeking to destroy our constitutional system, open our borders, defund the police and embrace virtual anarchy. Now, some of these fine people are calling for moderates to be purged as radicals take over the Democratic Party.

In 2017, the media manufactured a controversy by suggesting that Trump had praised neo-Nazis and Klansmen in 2017 as "fine people" in Charlottesville, Va. It was demonstrably false, but became the accepted truth in the media. In reality, Trump condemned the neo-Nazis, and the statement about "fine people on both sides" was in reference to the people on both sides of the debate over the removal of historic statues.

That narrative took on an added hypocrisy when some of the loudest voices later endorsed a candidate with an actual Nazi tattoo who allegedly assaulted women, mocked wounded veterans and praised terrorists. However, he promised to deliver Maine and bring figures like Chuck Schumer and Elizabeth Warren back to power.

Democratic Party leaders like Kamala Harris and Pete Buttigieg brush off El-Sayed’s allies, including Mohammad Baqer Qazwini, a prominent Muslim cleric who gave a sermon that called for followers to vote for El-Sayed while also calling upon them to pray for the death of President Donald Trump and to celebrate the death of Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Then there is the Democratic House candidate in New York, Darializa Avila Chevalier, a prison abolitionist who boasted about how she wiped her hands on the American flag in lieu of a napkin.

Chevalier and other DSA candidates are being welcomed in the Democratic Party despite anti-American views and a DSA platform calling for the destruction of our constitutional system, including scrapping the Supreme Court, the presidency and the Senate. Many are also overwhelmingly anti-Israel, with many, like Piker, displaying virulent antisemitism.

When asked about the extreme agenda of these candidates, Schumer and others repeat the mantra that they need to win in the upcoming elections. In other words, the DSA is opposed to the core institutions and values of this country, but it could be useful in returning them to power.

What is interesting is that the establishment does not appear to care what these radicals represent for their party, but the radicals care deeply about what the establishment represents. This week, former DNC Vice Chair David Hogg told establishment figures that the "big tent" of his party is not big enough for them. When asked about Democratic moderates, Hogg replied, "They don’t have the right values."

Piker has even grander plans for our post-constitutional republic, calling for mass arrests, demanding pledges from establishment figures to "arrest and prosecute every prominent member of the Trump administration" who engaged in what he views as corruption as well as "every ICE agent who committed crimes on the job."

Piker also wants to purge any Democrats who do not support El-Sayed, calling them "haters" who deserve to be punished.

"There are haters in our ranks. Notice how whenever someone comes out and says, ‘Yeah, that’s actually a bad association,’ immediately it’s weaponized by the Republicans. You can’t be out here saying like, ‘Oh, I’m a centrist Democrat. And I think Abdul is a bridge too far.’ That must be punished."

Piker, who likes to parade around in a Mao jacket, seems to be longing for the good old days of party purges under Stalin and his contemporaries in the Comintern.

He notably accused critics of the sin of "factionalism." Since the Jacobins of the French Revolution, factionalism has been the scourge of revolutionaries. In my book, "Rage and the Republic," I discuss the difference between the American and French Revolutions. Where James Madison saw factions as a natural part of a democratic system, the Jacobins sought them as a traitorous and reactionary element. Madison saw compromise as the best solution to factions, while the Jacobins saw the guillotine as the final solution.

Piker is right out of that Jacobin tradition, calling moderate Democrats "Koch payroll liberals" and "irredeemable." (Notably, the Jacobins also pushed for some of the same DSA demands, such as a unicameral legislature).

Of course, conservatives can show the same intolerance for RINOs (Republicans in Name Only), but there is an added menacing element to communists calling for mass expulsion or punishment of moderates from their party. It is chillingly familiar.

Mao regularly purged the Communist Party of those not following the party lines, declaring, "Serious offenders should be punished by law, and when they are Party members they should also be dealt with according to Party discipline."

Establishment figures continue to use the "big tent" narratives to brush off questions about the radical agenda and associations of these candidates. The only thing that they have in common is the desire for power. Once these candidates win, figures like Schumer will discover that this tent is not nearly as big as they think.

Bride cautions others before wedding day about risky beauty treatments: 'Pain wasn't worth it'

A bride-to-be who wanted to look "like a princess" on her wedding day ended up looking far worse than that after a severe allergic reaction to a fake eyelash treatment.

Polly Bibby, 26, an illustrator, decided to try classic eyelash extensions ahead of her big day compared to her usual minimal makeup look.

She had a patch test done, she said, according to Kennedy News & Media — and since she suffered no reaction, she went ahead with the procedure in early July, before her wedding day.

After getting the treatment done — which cost her about $88, she said — she was initially happy with her "dressier" appearance.

Just a few hours after the appointment, however, her eyes became watery and sore. She shrugged it off as symptoms of hay fever.

But when her eyes started to sting and then stick together due to a yellow discharge, alarm bells began going off. She called an urgent care medical line and was advised to head to the nearest hospital emergency room.

A shocking photo shows her red, raw and swollen eyes. After being seen by a nurse in the eye unit at Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Hinchingbrooke, Cambridge, it was confirmed she'd suffered an allergic reaction to the eyelash extensions.

WEIGHT-LOSS DRUGS LINKED TO 'OZEMPIC EARS' AND OTHER COSMETIC COMPLAINTS, SURGEONS SAY

She was given a course of antibiotics and antihistamines, and told to wait three days for the swelling to go down before getting the false lashes removed.

"To keep the eyes safe, [artificial] lashes should be applied by an experienced aesthetician in a sanitary setting, with chemicals that are safe for your skin," said Rebecca J. Taylor, M.D., a board-certified ophthalmologist in Nashville, in a statement on the American Academy of Ophthalmology website.

"The procedure does come with risks, namely trauma to or infection of the eyelid or cornea; allergic reaction to the glue; and permanent or temporary loss of eyelashes."

Infection can also result, Taylor said, from inadequate hygiene in the salon or damage to the eye during application.

Even though her skin is now slowly healing, Bibby of Cambridgeshire, in the United Kingdom, feared her eyes would still be red by the time she said "I do" to her to 29-year-old fiancé, Benjamin May.

She said she's been sharing her experience to warn other brides about getting certain treatments so close to their big day.

"I don't wear that much makeup," she told Kennedy News & Media. "Getting married is the biggest day of your life, so I just wanted to test out different makeup and actually feel like a princess for the day."

She said it was a trial for her wedding, as she'd "never had my eyelashes done before."

About four or five hours after the appointment, her partner looked at her eyes, she said, and thought they were a little red.

"By that evening, they had gone red, raw and were stinging. The only way I can describe [how I looked] is the man from 'The Goonies' with the big puffy eyes called Sloth. I just didn't look like myself. I looked like a different person."

She said her eyes were "burning," and "it got to the point where I was losing my vision and I couldn't see at all."

Every time she blinked, she said, her "eyes were sticking together as I had discharge building up [in] my eyes ... a sticky yellow discharge pretty similar to when babies have conjunctivitis."

She said the medical staff who treated her were "quite taken back and shocked by it."

During the removal of the false lashes, she said it felt like "acid was being poured onto her face."

She said, "I was screaming, crying and tensing up. My eyes are still red, scabby and very 'rashy.' The eyelids themselves are really swollen, and I've still got quite blurry vision."

She also said, "When people joke around and say things [can] go wrong [on your wedding day] — I didn't realize it would happen to me."

Ahead of her wedding, she said, "I won't be getting eyelash extensions for the big day. Going through that pain was not worth it. If I knew in hindsight, I'd just use mascara."

Former DNC fundraiser says major donors won’t back Kamala Harris again as party faces divisions

A former Democratic National Committee (DNC) fundraiser warned Saturday on "My View with Lara Trump" that major donors are unlikely to support former Vice President Kamala Harris in another presidential run, arguing the party is struggling with internal divisions, fundraising problems and a weak 2028 field.

Lindy Li contended that political donors view their contributions as a "business proposition" and will not continue backing candidates or organizations they believe mishandled their money.

Li criticized the party’s post-election accountability and said donor frustration is contributing to broader Democratic fundraising problems.

"There's been no accountability. The autopsy that they sent out was basically a sham, and they couldn't even stand behind it. They didn't even mention the fact that Kamala Harris is a terrible candidate," she said.

"Kamala Harris is living in fantasyland… [thinking] that big donors would bet on her again," she added. "She should just go away because the American people do not want her agenda."

Li noted roughly $2.5 billion was spent between Harris’ campaign operation and the pro-Harris Future Forward super PAC. Federal filings show Harris’ principal campaign committee alone reported about $1.18 billion in disbursements during the 2023-24 cycle.

Li made the case that Democratic fundraising troubles are connected to dissatisfaction with the party’s drift leftward, criticizing Democrats for embracing socialist policies.

"This is why donors like me left the party in droves. And this is why they are so… broke. They literally had to put up their own headquarters… as collateral. They can't even get a text back from donors. So I don't want to hear anything about a big tent. You should not be normalizing socialism like this," she said.

The former Democratic fundraiser also criticized party leaders for succumbing to pressure from the party’s left flank, arguing that Sen. Chuck Schumer only labeled Democrats a "big tent party" because he knows that if he doesn't, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., would primary him.

"He's trying to race her to the bottom. It's just ridiculous," she said. "And Americans already rejected it in 2024," Li said.

It was fun to watch because I was like, I feel like that's the way that my life is. It just kind of, I fall into things sometimes, and then sometimes I fall over very badly, and it's a big mess in front of the world, and it’s fine."

For Baldwin, embracing imperfection has become a theme both on screen and at home.

While she may not always have a plan, she believes staying committed through life's twists has made all the difference in her family and marriage.

Fever coach Stephanie White defends DiJonai Carrington after flagrant foul ejection on her own player

Sophie Cunningham took a forearm to the head Saturday night. And for some inexplicable reason, her own coach is defending the player who delivered it.

Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White raised eyebrows after Saturday's 90-86 win over the Chicago Sky when she pushed back on Cunningham's assertion that DiJonai Carrington intentionally leveled her during a first-quarter drive to the basket.

Carrington chased Cunningham down from behind as the Fever guard went up for a layup and caught her across the head and neck area, sending Cunningham crashing to the floor. Officials reviewed the play, upgraded it to a Flagrant 2 and ejected Carrington.

Cunningham had no trouble saying exactly what she thought happened.

"Clearly, I think it was like unnecessary. I've never really spoken to her and have no beef with her, but I guess she has some pent up stuff. So get your s— off. That's fine. I can take it ... Yeah, it's intentional," Cunningham said after the game.

Her coach didn't see it that way.

"Yeah, I mean, look, it was a hard foul. I don't think that DiJonai intentionally came out to get her across the neck like she did. But it did happen and I thought it was the right call," White said.

Then she went a step further.

"But you know, one of the things about Nay is that she's gonna play her butt off, man. She's gonna compete. Nobody's gonna go walking in for a layup. And so, I don't oppose the hard foul. But I also don't think that she intentionally went for the neck."

That's an awfully generous interpretation of the play that got Carrington thrown out of the game.

Maybe White was simply trying to keep an already-heated situation from escalating. Coaches don't necessarily need to accuse opposing players of intentionally trying to hurt their athletes every time there's a nasty foul.

Still, there's a difference between de-escalating and going out of your way to explain away the actions of the player who just blasted one of your own.

And there is some history here.

White coached Carrington for two seasons with the Connecticut Sun in 2023 and 2024 before returning to Indiana. So White knows Carrington well, perhaps well enough to feel confident speaking to her intentions.

But Cunningham is the player in White's locker room now.

And Cunningham clearly didn't believe what happened was merely a routine example of an aggressive defender refusing to surrender an easy basket.

"I don't even know her. She wasn't even on the team last year when all that was going on," Cunningham said. "But I do think when people play the Fever, we're nationally televised, there's a lot of eyes on us and people just want attention. And that's her just trying to get attention."

Carrington certainly didn't do much afterward to cool things down herself.

Following her ejection, she posted "White Privilege" on Threads and tagged the Indiana Fever. She did not explain whether the message was directed at Cunningham, the officials or the Fever organization.

Cunningham dismissed the suggestion that Carrington's ejection had anything to do with race.

"I think the league is taking care of that. This has nothing to do with race. Last year, I did the same thing and I got kicked out. And I deserved to be kicked out," Cunningham said. "There's no reason even to play that card."

White declined to comment on Carrington's social media post.

Of course, White didn't have to declare her former player an evil villain.

But considering everything that happened, Cunningham probably could have used a little more unequivocal support from the coach standing on her own sideline.

The hard foul that left Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham with a bloody mouth against the Chicago Sky was a result of karma. At least, that was Sports Illustrated's initial reaction to Chicago's DiJonai Carrington clotheslining Cunningham during a layup attempt.

With two minutes remaining in the first quarter of the Fever's eventual 90-86 win on Saturday night, Carrington delivered a very hard foul on Cunningham underneath the basket. The foul was upgraded to a Flagrant 2, resulting in Carrington's ejection from the contest.

After seeing Carrington swipe her forearm across Cunningham's face at full speed in what certainly did not appear to be an attempt at the basketball, Sports Illustrated opted to publish a story about the moment titled "Sophie Cunningham Got a Bitter Taste of Karma After Drawing Flagrant Foul in Fever-Sky."

The title of the story sparked immediate and intense reaction across social media as Cunningham has dominated headlines for weeks after sharing her opinion that transgender athletes should not be allowed to play in women's sports.

Citing "karma" as the reason behind Cunningham taking a hard foul while she's received constant backlash for stating that men do not belong in women's sports came across, to many, as a pointed effort from Sports Illustrated.

The story, written by breaking news writer Kristen Wong, was later updated with the following title: "Sophie Cunningham's Enforcer Role Gets Reversed Onto Her With Hard Foul in Fever-Sky."

OutKick has reached out to Sports Illustrated requesting comment about the title change of the story.

The Sports Illustrated story claimed that the "karma" Cunningham received on the play stemmed from a hard foul she committed during the 2025 WNBA season, in which she wrapped her arms around Jacy Sheldon while she was attempting a layup. Sheldon played for the Connecticut Sun last season, but is now a member of the Sky.

Cunningham was assessed a Flagrant 2 for her foul on Sheldon and was ejected from the game. When asked about being on the receiving end of Carrington's hard foul and the ejection on Saturday, Cunningham admitted she deserved to be ejected for her foul on Sheldon last season.

"Last year I did the same thing, and I got kicked out, as I deserved to be kicked out. There’s no reason to even play that card," Cunningham told the media.

That "card" Cunningham referred to is in reaction to Carrington posting the words "WHITE PRIVILEGE" and tagging the Fever on her Instagram Threads account shortly after being ejected from Saturday's contest.

"We saw it," Cunningham said, when asked about Carrington's post. "I think the league is taking care of that. I mean, this has nothing to do with race."

Indiana head coach Stephanie White actually went on to defend Carrington during the post-game press conference, but did agree the flagrant foul and ejection were the correct calls.

"Yeah, I mean, look, it was a hard foul. I don't think that DiJonai intentionally came out to get her across the neck like she did. But it did happen and I thought it was the right call. But you know, one of the things about Nay is that she's gonna play her butt off, man. She's gonna compete. Nobody's gonna go walking in for a layup. And so, I don't oppose the hard foul. But I also don't think that she intentionally went for the neck," White said.

White declined to comment on Carrington's "white privilege" post.

Tears for Fears star Roland Orzabal is opening up about the painful final years of his marriage, revealing that he fell in love with another woman before his first wife, Caroline, died after a long battle with an alcohol-related illness.

The "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" singer, who has written a new memoir, "Welcome to Your Life," admitted he reached his breaking point after spending years watching his wife’s condition deteriorate. Orzabal described that while walking away may have seemed cruel, he eventually saw "a clear way forward."

"Why was it important to be so candid? Well, because it’s the truth," the 64-year-old told Fox News Digital. "I didn’t want to write something false. And also, I always felt that somewhere out there is someone who’s going through what you went through."

"I’d spent years and years with Caroline in this state," Orzabal reflected. "It wasn’t just a year or six months. And yes, I had enough. I was shown a clear way forward."

In October 2016, Orzabal met writer and photographer Emily Rath while Tears for Fears were in Colorado to perform at Red Rocks. He wrote that his immediate reaction when he noticed her was, "That’s my wife."

"I’ve been around the world many times and had seen and met many attractive women, but I’d never heard those words before," he wrote. "They didn’t make sense, either, because I was already married, and this woman looked nothing like Caroline."

Rath was 30 when she met the then-55-year-old Orzabal. "Ouch," he wrote. "If only I was half my age and she was older."

After exchanging numbers, the pair developed what Orzabal initially described as a "friendship between two creatives." Looking back, however, he acknowledged, "The truth is, I was falling in love with Emily before Caroline had died."

By then, Orzabal had spent decades with Caroline, whom he had known since they were teenagers.

Orzabal was around 14 years old when he first met Caroline Johnston. They married in Bath, England, in 1982, when the singer had just turned 21 and Caroline was 20. They had two sons.

Before Caroline’s physical and mental health deteriorated, the marriage had already endured significant strain. In the book, Orzabal describes a passionate but volatile relationship marked by frequent arguments. As his career took off, he spent long periods away and admits becoming increasingly "selfish," "hedonistic" and absorbed in his rock star persona.

By the mid-1990s, the marriage was in serious trouble. The couple discussed separation and sought marriage counseling. Orzabal says he was determined to keep his family together while acknowledging "the pain that I put Caroline through." Despite the turmoil, they stayed together.

Things changed in the late 2000s, when the couple settled into what Orzabal describes as a predictable, day-to-day life where heavy nightly drinking became routine. Around 2011, friends began noticing a change in Caroline’s behavior.

"It was a slow process," Orzabal recalled to Fox News Digital. "She would say it’s menopause. 'It’s the menopause. I’m not eating because of the menopause. I’m weird because of the menopause. I’m depressed because of the menopause.' And she was always very emphatic, hard to argue with."

"I went along with this for many, many years until it was obvious that menopause was over, but the symptoms continued and got worse," he said. "It got worse and worse. We went to see several doctors, and they all said, 'It’s alcohol.' But even then I was in denial because I was a wine drinker. I thought, 'It isn’t doing me any harm, so why is it doing harm to her?'"

"To be honest with you, it wasn’t until the autopsy that I realized the truth," Orzabal admitted. "Terrible."

According to Orzabal, Caroline eventually struggled to eat solid food even as she continued drinking. She spent increasing amounts of time on the sofa, became anxious, stopped regularly cooking for their sons and alienated friends. Orzabal writes that her condition escalated to "seizures and hospitalizations," "bizarre ideation" and loss of normal bodily control. He described watching helplessly as she "slowly melted away."

Orzabal writes that Caroline’s drinking became increasingly secretive, and he later discovered that she had been hiding bottles of vodka. He recalled seeing her jaundiced with "deathly red marks" on her face.

"How much of a carer are you? Is that your natural bent?" Orzabal told Fox News Digital. "I would say with me, it probably wasn’t, but I did it anyway. And I think what it did was it would make me very angry inside, which wasn’t good. I had people talk to me about just leaving, which I would never have done. But I think in hindsight, it’s stupid to say now, but maybe I should have done something about it earlier or left. Sounds harsh."

"I think the problem was that, one minute, she’d be fine," said Orzabal. "We would have a decent conversation. And then the next minute. She was doolally — not making sense, demented."

Orzabal wrote that as his feelings for Rath developed, he found himself confronting a choice about his future.

"I was at a crossroads, a tipping point, if you like," wrote Orzabal. "A tipping point that would redefine my life. With all the things that were going on with Caroline, with all the visits to psychiatrists, to neurologists, to hepatologists, I was falling in love with a young, healthy woman who I believed loved me too and was the opposite of what I had left at home.

"... I had a talk with myself, out loud, pacing the room like some crazy man. I knew what was going to happen to Caroline: She would once again be committed and the whole process, the whole nightmare, would start again. And where would it end? I could choose the scenario, the illness, the misery and the frustration, or I could choose an alternative and leave her madness behind. ... I could choose life, or I could choose death. God strike me down, cancel me, whatever, but I chose life."

Orzabal told Fox News Digital that imagining a life beyond his wife’s illness left him with an agonizing sense of guilt.

"If you choose life at this moment, you were cruel," he said. "But I think it was the final straw because Caroline had already spent three months in a psych ward. I’d been there virtually every day going to visit her. And then, all of a sudden, that night I saw an alternative life for myself, which is hard to do — hard to take. But I did."

In 2017, Orzabal’s first wife of 35 years died. She was 54.

"I felt belief and disbelief," he said. "I couldn’t take it in because you have to go into action. I had to speak to my sons, my family. You’re clearing up the mess that death leaves."

In 2019, Orzabal said he entered InnerBalance, a rehabilitation center in Colorado, for treatment of his Ambien addiction. He said he began to forgive himself there.

"There’s this madness that comes with grief," he explained. "There’s the negotiation. 'What if I did this?' 'What if I did that?' And then, what happens when you no longer have that person to negotiate with? You no longer have that person to get angry. That’s all gone, and you are only left with the feeling."

"I left out a lot of details, especially when it came to Caroline," he continued. "It was a lot worse, but I wanted to be respectful of those who’ve passed on. I wanted to respect her name. She’s my sons’ mother. So no, I couldn’t put the gruesome details at all. Even though it sounds bad, it’s much worse."

Orzabal and Rath married in 2020. They had a daughter, Eula, in 2025.

"Emily has been an amazing support system for me," said Orzabal. "It depends on your belief system - I think that if you believe in the soul, then [Caroline] would completely understand. When I think about the person she was ... she would understand."

Author Dinesh D'Souza challenges Bible skeptics with 'startling' archaeological discoveries

FIRST ON FOX — A trip to Israel by bestselling author and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza sparked what would become a three-year deep dive into biblical archaeology — a field he says offers striking support for the historical authenticity of the Bible.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, D'Souza said he became fascinated with biblical archaeology because it "stunningly supports the historicity of the Bible."

"The Stones Cry Out," his newest book, is the culmination of a multi-year effort that began in 2022 and is scheduled to hit shelves on Oct. 13.

HOLY LAND DISCOVERY REVEALS ANCIENT CHARRED RELICS FROM ONE OF JERUSALEM'S DARKEST CHAPTERS

D'Souza explores archaeological discoveries tied to people, places and events described in the Old and New Testaments, examining what they reveal about the historical credibility of the Bible.

His book delves into dozens of such discoveries. The Texas-based expert said some of the most striking involve relatively minor biblical figures whose existence has been supported by archaeological findings.

Not everyone, however, is convinced such discoveries corroborate the biblical record — a view D'Souza is unfazed by, he said.

"I think the skeptics generally are sort of armchair critics," he said.

'SIGNIFICANT' EARLY CHRISTIAN CHURCH EMERGES BENEATH FORMER FISH MARKET IN ANCIENT CITY

"The problem for them is that archaeology is digging out of the ground artifacts that are a decisive refutation of the things that they say."

Skeptics, D'Souza said, have also historically questioned accounts surrounding Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor who ordered the crucifixion of Jesus.

It wasn't until 1961 that archaeologists discovered the Pilate Stone — archaeological evidence that bore Pontius Pilate's name and identified him as "prefect of Judea." (That stone is on permanent display at The Israel Museum in Jerusalem, according to the museum's own website.)

"Boom. Not only does it confirm the existence of Pilate, but the Bible writers had his title exactly correct," D'Souza said.

"Later, the title was evidently changed to procurator — but in Jesus' own time, Pontius Pilate had the title that the Bible ascribes to him," he added.

Another example involves an Old Testament story, in which Israelites traveled toward the Promised Land through Moabite territory, and the king of Moab called on Balaam, a diviner, to curse them, D'Souza said.

In 1967, archaeologists excavating Deir 'Alla in modern-day Jordan discovered an ancient plaster inscription referring to "Balaam, son of Beor," a seer who shares the name and patronymic of the biblical figure.

"So skeptics, no surprise, go, ‘This stuff is clearly made up,’" D’Souza said. "Well, fast-forward. … This is a guy who has just a few sentences in the Bible, and yet, thanks to this plaster inscription found in Jordan, he jumps out of the pages of the Bible and into the pages of history via the pathway of archaeology."

One of the most "startling" examples of biblical archaeology, D'Souza said, involves a high priest named Caiaphas, described as "one of the villains of the Bible."

"He presides over the trial of Jesus. He orchestrates the crucifixion," he said.

"Yet for many, many centuries, Caiaphas had a kind of shady existence. He was mainly in the Bible, but not really outside the Bible," added D'Souza.

Archaeologists excavating in Jerusalem later discovered an ossuary, or bone box, bearing the name "Yehoseph bar Caiapha."

"They look inside the box. It's the bones of a 60-year-old man. They date it. It goes to the first century A.D. It's Caiaphas," D'Souza said.

"And the amazing thing is, we not only have an inscription or reference to him, we have his actual bones. ... Archaeology provides this kind of stunning corroboration for the people, the places and the events in the Bible."

D'Souza described his book "The Stones Cry Out" as an "attempt to bridge the gap between the academic world and the public."

"It's a complex field, but it's very rewarding," he said.

He also urged his fellow Christians to visit Israel, he said, calling it "our spiritual homeland" — more so than other parts of the Levant.

"All of the Old Testament and Jesus' own ministry takes place in the [land] of Israel," he said. "You get a much deeper understanding by being there. And also some of the terms and descriptions in the Bible take on a kind of new life."

Netanyahu rejects Board of Peace's Gaza plan: No 'withdrawal until Hamas is genuinely disarmed'

Israel is rejecting a 15-point Gaza proposal put forward by the Board of Peace, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday, declaring that Israeli forces will not withdraw from the enclave until Hamas fully gives up its weapons.

"Israel rejects the 15-point Gaza document proposed by the Board of Peace," Netanyahu said at Sunday's Cabinet meeting. "The IDF will not carry out any withdrawal until Hamas is genuinely disarmed."

Israel remains in discussions with the United States over the disarmament of Hamas but insisted any agreement would have to result in the terror group surrendering its entire arsenal, according to Netanyahu.

"It needs to be genuine disarmament, not fictitious disarmament," Netanyahu said.

"When I say Hamas is disarmed, that means the heavy weapons, the less heavy weapons, all the weapons," he added.

Hamas remains committed to a Gaza roadmap agreed with mediators and representatives of the Board of Peace in Cairo 10 days ago, senior Hamas official Basem Naim told Reuters.

Hamas expects mediators and the United States to "press Netanyahu and his government to adhere to the roadmap," he added.

Trump said last month that there had been a breakthrough in efforts to advance the peace process and that Hamas had agreed to lay down its weapons. Hamas controlled Gaza for nearly two decades before carrying out the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack on Israel that triggered the war.

Israel has continued carrying out strikes in Gaza since the ceasefire took effect last October, while the future disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli forces remain central issues in negotiations over the territory.

Netanyahu made clear Sunday that Israel would resist provisions in U.S.-backed proposals that his government considers unacceptable.

Welcome to the latest edition of Sunday Screencaps. I'm happy to report that there's been a lot of respect shown this week to summer and grilling season.

These are the days when the pressure to turn the page to fall is really cranked up to another level. Fall will have its time, that time has not arrived yet.

Unfortunately, I also have to pass along news of heartbreak and finger pointing. Olympic hero and New Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes and Canadian pop star Tate McRae have reportedly called it quits.

Page Six broke the news. They claim, according to their sources, that both sides are trying to take credit for calling it off.

McRae's return to the NHL after a prior relationship with a hockey player was never officially confirmed. She was spotted in New York with Hughes, she was seen at Devils games and even backed Team USA in a Winter Olympics promo.

It wasn’t enough for these two to make it through the offseason intact. Page Six says "the NHL star has been blabbing to pals that he broke up with the 'Exes' singer before they had a chance to publicly confirm their romance."

A source told them he ended it because of "red flags." There's a different version of events from "sources close to McRae." They say it was the singer who ended it. However, there were no mentions of flags of any color.

I have a feeling that both Hughes and McRae are going to be just fine. Best of luck to the two of them.

What I was drinking plus cheeseburgers

To answer the question of what I was drinking with my steak last week, it was an Old Fashioned. I have Angel’s Envy, Woodford Reserve (gift from a friend), and a bourbon from a local brewery that has a deal with a distillery in Kentucky. I think that’s how some breweries are thriving as craft beer wanes in popularity.

It’s funny how Joe recently wrote about the IPA Mafia becoming Bourbon Bros., and I don’t like admitting I sort of became one of them. A few years back, I was gaining weight despite all the running and triathlons I was doing. Two friends said they switched from IPAs and craft beer to light beer and lost weight. I did the same thing and slowly lost 15-20 pounds. I always had an Old Fashioned for my birthday at a local steakhouse, but noticed I slowly started drinking them more often at other restaurants. The folks drinking IPAs in 2018 are drinking bourbon today.

Also, I grilled up some cheeseburgers on King’s Hawaiian buns for some friends, their kids, and my wife and I. Ended up being a hit. Also grabbed some potato salad from our local Publix.

I just concluded reading your very interesting article in Fox! The colorful antics of Snake aside, I am sure you are acquainted with some of the potential, circumstantial evidence for the possible existence of a large hominid.

Almost all native American tribes for hundreds, if not thousands of years, have had nearly identical conceptions (and drawings) of the creature, many a footprint has been cast which cannot easily be declared to be fake, and reports of sightings in areas where it would make no sense to fake an encounter. Indeed, the infamous Patterson Gimlin film depicts a creature which is a female - hardly something one would think to fake, in my estimation. Dr. Jeff Meldrum has likewise presented compelling evidence that the gait of that creature, and overall body structure, comports with an ape.

My brother is a Marine, and two of our cousins are as well - the reports of these things on military bases, from Twentynine Palms in CA, to Lejeune in NC, also are very hard to easily refute, especially audio recordings, etc.

In any event, during my time on Capitol Hill as a legislative staffer, there even were some occasions where Senate Armed Services Committee staff would discuss this topic.

Tommy John, the former New York Yankees pitcher who first underwent the elbow surgery that has been used to further the careers of players for decades, released a statement to fans as the franchise celebrated Old-Timers’ Day on Saturday.

John, 83, said in his message he was "saying goodbye" as the team revealed he’s been battling health issues in Florida.

Donna Mills says refusing to pose nude came with a hefty price.

The 85-year-old actress claimed that Playboy pulled her planned cover after she refused to pose nude.

"I was supposed to be on the cover, and they didn't put me on the cover because I didn't show anything. And that pissed me off."

But during the three-day shoot, Mills said the pressure never stopped.

"The photographer kept trying to get me, ‘Move that sheet down a little bit,’" she said. "I had my publicist and my hairdresser there, covering up things. So, nothing in any of the pictures shows."

"He said, 'I trust you. You do what you want to do,'" Mills said.

For Mills, signing up for OnlyFans was about proving life doesn't stop with age.

"When I kind of looked at it a few years ago and said, 'What do I want to do with this portion of my life, this chapter in my life?' I said, 'I'd like to be an inspiration,'" she emphasized.

Strengthening the core improves balance and stability, which supports movement and physical performance, experts say.

While traditional abdominal exercises can be effective, one yoga pose may offer added benefits. Boat pose, or Navasana, forms the body into a "V" and challenges multiple muscles involved in core stability.

Melissa Leach, a certified yoga instructor and strength and conditioning coach in Philadelphia, said a strong core provides a foundation for both exercise and everyday movement.

The pose develops both stability and muscular endurance, according to Leach.

"The position requires your deep core muscles, the ones that support your spine and pelvis, to stay engaged throughout," she said. "Over time, this can translate into better posture, a stronger lower back and a core that supports everyday movement."

How to do a boat pose

Leach shared the following steps for performing the boat pose safely and with proper form.

Sit down on a mat or the floor with the knees bent and feet flat on the ground.
Lean back slightly onto the sit bones, keeping the lower back straight.
Lift the feet off the ground, keeping the shins parallel with the floor. If possible, extend the legs upward for the full pose.
Reach the arms forward, keeping them parallel to the ground.
Engage the core muscles and balance.

Those looking to make the exercise more dynamic can move in and out of the pose rather than holding it, the expert said.

Lie flat on your back on the floor or a mat.
Use the core muscles to lift the legs and upper body off the mat, reaching the final "V" shape of the boat pose.
Extend the body back down to the floor or mat and repeat.

For beginners, Leach recommended some modifications.

Keep the legs bent in a half boat pose instead of straight, which can reduce core strain and effort.
Hold the backs of your thighs lightly to provide support and help with balance.

Those who struggle with balance and maintaining a straight spine can sit on a folded blanket or cushion to help tilt the pelvis forward, Leach suggested.

Another option is to sit with the back a few inches from the wall "for reassurance," she said, "while still allowing enough space for you to perform the crunching movement without hitting your head."

For seniors or anyone with limited core strength, Leach recommends trying a chair-supported version. Sit toward the front edge of a sturdy chair, hold the sides for support, and lean back slightly while lifting one or both feet a few inches off the floor.

"This builds the same engagement without the demand of balancing unsupported, and you can progress to the floor version once you feel steadier," she advised.

Florida man accused of killing nurse mom who helped him despite repeated arrests for threatening her: sheriff

A Florida man allegedly killed his mother, who had recently bonded him out of jail and had moved to the state to get him mental health help.

Gibson Nash, 21, was charged with first-degree murder after a series of perplexing events eventually led police to his mother’s bloodied body.

Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office found Margaret Chu Dufour, a 56-year-old nurse, on the floor of her home in Polk County, Florida. It wasn’t their first encounter with her.

About a month before, deputies responded to a "disturbance" at the home involving her moving company.

KENTUCKY MAN ACCUSED OF KIDNAPPING, KILLING WOMAN AND KEEPING HER BODY UNDER TRAILER BEFORE DISPOSAL

The "movers tried to upcharge her and charge her more money," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in a news conference on Aug. 5.

After movers left, his deputies helped her finish moving items into her new home "without fanfare," Judd said.

"That’s the kind of customer service our deputies do."

So deputies with the same department were horrified to find her dead on the floor a month later. It was the culmination of a series of puzzling events on the morning of July 21, Judd said.

Just before 7 a.m., her son was involved in multiple traffic crashes while driving her vehicle, a blue BMW SUV, Judd said.

After fleeing the first crash, Nash allegedly hit a slew of other vehicles with the SUV, Judd said. The rampage caused more property damage, additional crashes between other vehicles and ultimately injuries to three people who were treated at a hospital.

Deputies then found Nash unconscious behind the wheel of the SUV covered in blood. That confused deputies, Judd said.

"It was a significant crash, but it was like, ‘Why is he unconscious?’" Judd said.

Deputies tried to sort it out at the scene.

"He's got blood on his hands, and the paramedic thinks this is not a bloody kind of crash. Where did the blood come from?"

Nash was taken to a local hospital with an unknown identity. He was sedated and intubated.

Meanwhile, deputies went to Dufour’s house because it was shown on the vehicle’s registration. She didn’t answer their knock at the door.

They learned that she wasn’t supposed to be at work that day. They saw a broken glass plate near her patio door and a shovel near the side of the house.

Because of the "suspicious circumstances," they entered the house with a key they found on the front porch, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies then found Dufour "stomped into a bloody puddle in the middle of the floor," Judd said.

The medical examiner said she died from "blunt force injury from a beating, and from being strangled to death," Judd said.

"It’s one of the most, personally, violent murders we've seen in a very long time," said the sheriff, who’s been in law enforcement 54 years.

In April, Nash had been arrested twice for allegedly threatening to kill his mother. They both lived in Knoxville, Tennessee, at the time. The first time, Dufour had called 911 after locking the door behind her after entering a smoke shop, leaving him in her vehicle just outside.

She told the 911 operator that her son had "attacked" her the night before and "assaulted" her that morning, Judd said. The only way she could get him to calm down was agreeing to take him to the smoke shop, she said on the call.

Shortly after, Nash was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill her with a knife. Later that month, Nash pulled a knife and threatened to kill her again, this time "over not being able to play on the Xbox," Judd said.

Soon after, Dufour moved to Florida. But she returned to Tennessee to bond her son out of jail, Judd said.

Her move south was an attempt to get Nash more mental health treatment, Judd said. Family members told investigators that he’s "bipolar, schizophrenic and maybe autistic."

While in the hospital after the July traffic crashes in Florida, blood on his clothing was tested and found to be his mother’s, Judd said.

Investigators found "remarkable" bruising on his knuckles and feet "from where he kicked and kicked and stomped and beat his mother," Judd said.

Nash also was in liver failure from overdosing on Tylenol, Judd said.

Dufour had recently started work as a nurse on the surgery floor at Bartow Regional Medical Center.

The stripping of a Miss North Carolina USA winner's crown was due to "the totality of the circumstances" of her past objectionable speech and not her conservative politics or Christian beliefs, according to organizers.

"A Blaize Productions’ decision was not based on Brittany Boltinhouse’s political views, religious beliefs, or protected personal viewpoints," according to a statement released by the organization that holds the North Carolina state license for the Miss USA pageant.

"Our organization includes people from various backgrounds, political views, personal beliefs and values. We welcome and celebrate that."

Brittany Boltinhouse, 27, won the Miss North Carolina USA pageant in June but only held the crown for weeks after her past online posts were scrutinized. She was stripped of her crown this week and said her views and past public statements were the reason.

"I believe and think I was stripped from my title because of my political stance and my belief system as a conservative Christian woman," Boltinhouse, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, told the Carolina Journal in an interview Friday.

Saturday in Chicago, once again, showcased the harsh reality that the opposition to Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham is rooted in hate, intolerance, and delusion.

While dozens of calm and cordial Cunningham supporters rallied outside of the United Center, they were met by a group of mask-wearing, sign-holding, profanity-spewing counterprotesters playing loud music that included incredibly vulgar and inflammatory lyrics such as:

"And we'll never rest again until every Nazi dies" and "F— these f—ing fascists"

CHICAGO SKY ADDRESS SOPHIE CUNNINGHAM RALLY PLANNED OUTSIDE HOME GAME VS FEVER

When asked to clarify if they believed the Cunningham supporters were Nazis and fascists for believing women’s sports should remain female, they instead called me a Nazi. Typical.

When I had the chance to actually speak to one protester, flanked by signs that included, "Go Home Losers", "Trans Kids Belong in Sports", and "Rise Up Against Trans Hate," a self-identified transgender woman told me, "I feel like our rights are being violated. Our trans youth are being taken advantage of. They just want to play sports."

After that comment, a mask-wearing fellow protester jumped in front of me, cutting off the interview claiming I was "hostile media."

After a failed attempt to chat with another protestor, that same woman cut me off again in a vulgar way saying, "F— you, right-wing scumbag!" The party of love and tolerance, ladies and gentlemen.

After I spotted a couple wearing pro-trans trans t-shirts, I went up to them at a side entrance to the arena, and asked what they thought about Sophie Cunningham and her supporters. The man wearing a "Protect Trans Athletes" shirt refused to do an interview on camera, but told me that they weren't fans of Cunningham and the question of: Do you support biological men competing in the WNBA?, he called the phrasing a "non sequitur," refusing to define what a woman is, while stating definitively that biological sex is not determined by XX or XY chromosomes.

I followed up that clearly subjective statement not rooted in any sort of biological or scientific truth, by asking her thoughts on former NBA first round picks, Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White declaring for the 2027 WNBA Draft.

She said, "If they truly were trans, then I would be perhaps supportive of them, but they’re not, which I followed up with "Who determines who’s really a woman?"

After rolling her eyes and staring at me for pushing her on her flawed ideology she declared, "I would love to see them play against A’ja Wilson and beat her. I doubt they would," storming off with a smug, "Thank you so much."

Let’s be honest.

Wilson is a tremendous WNBA player. When it’s all said and done, she could be the definitive GOAT, but pretending that the current WNBA MVP frontrunner would hold a candle to those men is a level of delusional thinking I find hard to fathom.

As for the pro-Cunningham group of about a couple dozen, led by the 1986 U.S. Women's All-Around National Champion and founder of XX-XY Athletics, Jennifer Sey, who told me "The WNBA is living in 2020," as she responded to my question regarding why the league seems to be weary of standing firm that the league is only for women. "They (WNBA) are being made fools of by the two men (Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White)...who are saying, ‘I’m a woman now. I wanna play.’ They are just pointing out the ludicrousness of this whole ideology and I applaud them for it, because it should be laughed at."

Sey has made the point clear that these rallies are about supporting Sophie.

"Our message for Sophie is: We support you. We don’t want her to stand alone. The league isn’t standing with her. A lot of us here," pointing to the dozens of women rallying in support of Cunningham, "know how hard it is to take a stand."

Sey added that she was "pleased that this one was much more peaceful" than what they experienced in Minnesota.

The American left has proven time and time again that they are the most hateful, intolerant, and overly-aggressive group in our country. And the WNBA has said nothing. They have done nothing to cool the temperature, which had reached a boiling point, on and off the court.

Inside the arena, just like every road game since Cunningham made her comments about protecting the safety, integrity and fairness of women’s and girls sports, fans booed her every chance they got.

One of the most egregious things I’ve seen done during this whole saga inside the arena, was after Cunningham was clothselined and cheap-shotted by Chicago Sky guard, DiJonai Carrington, who also poked Caitlin Clark in the eye with her excessively long nails in the playoffs of Clark’s rookie season, the Sky featured a fan wearing a trans rights t-shirt during the review of what ultimately became a flagrant 2 foul that ejected Carrington from the game.

It seems that teams and their game presentation departments are doing whatever they can to promote fans with trans attire. A similar gesture was made at the Portland Fire game I attended, where the team showcased a group of lesbian women waving trans flags on the video board, as well as selecting a lesbian with trans wristbands to shoot a halfcourt shot. They are making a definitive, politically divisive statement on where they stand on the issue.

Reading articles like this is enlightening for all of you readers, I’m sure. Seeing these things in person, though, makes me feel like we’re living in an alternate universe.

Your phone holds a running record of your life. It can reveal private messages, photos, financial records and location history. That explains why some people turn to extreme security tools. One of them is a secret phone wipe code that erases stored data when someone enters a secondary passcode. However, using that feature during a federal inspection can create serious legal trouble.

An Atlanta man now faces a felony charge after a special passcode allegedly erased his Google Pixel while U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers were trying to inspect it. Prosecutors say he knowingly destroyed digital property that the government had lawful authority to seize. His attorneys dispute that account. They argue that agents detained him unlawfully and had no valid authority to take the phone.

The unresolved case puts personal privacy and border security on a collision course. It also shows how quickly a phone protection feature can become the center of a federal prosecution.

How a secret phone wipe code led to a federal charge

Samuel Tunick, a U.S. citizen who lives in Atlanta, returned from a vacation in the Dominican Republic on Jan. 24, 2025. CBP officers directed him to a secondary inspection area at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. During the encounter, agents took possession of his Google Pixel and asked for its passcode.

Tunick allegedly supplied a code that did not unlock the phone. Instead, an officer entered it and triggered a complete wipe. According to court filings described in published reports, the screen went dark, flashed several times and appeared to restart. The phone remained physically intact, but its stored data was gone.

Federal authorities later allowed Tunick to enter the country. A grand jury indicted him on Nov. 13, 2025, under a rarely used federal law covering the destruction of property to prevent a government seizure. Tunick pleaded not guilty. The charge remains an allegation, and the court has not decided whether the government's seizure was lawful. The case appears to be among the first publicly reported federal prosecutions centered on a phone's duress wipe feature.

How the GrapheneOS duress passcode wipes a phone

Tunick's Pixel reportedly ran GrapheneOS, an open-source operating system designed to increase privacy and security on supported Google Pixel phones. GrapheneOS replaces the standard operating system. It does not work like a regular Android app.

One optional feature lets the phone's owner create a duress PIN or password. This credential differs from the code that normally unlocks the screen. When someone enters the duress credential, GrapheneOS immediately and irreversibly wipes the device. The process also removes installed eSIMs.

GrapheneOS says the wipe does not require a reboot and cannot be interrupted after it begins. The code works anywhere the operating system requests the device credentials, including the lock screen. The feature could help someone facing a violent thief or another coercive situation. Yet using it during a government search raises a separate legal question. Installing GrapheneOS or setting up a duress passcode is not the crime alleged in this case. Prosecutors are focusing on when Tunick allegedly used the feature and what he intended to accomplish.

Why a phone wipe during a border search may be a felony

Federal prosecutors charged Tunick under 18 U.S.C. Section 2232(a). The law applies when someone knowingly destroys, damages or takes another action against property to prevent the government from lawfully taking custody of it.

The statute can apply at any point surrounding a search or seizure. A conviction carries up to five years in federal prison and may also include a fine. The government appears to view the physical phone as a container. The stored information represents the property agents wanted to inspect and preserve.

According to the indictment, Tunick knowingly caused the contents of his Pixel to be deleted. Prosecutors allege that he acted to prevent the government from taking control of that information. The charge does not require prosecutors to prove that the phone contained evidence of a separate crime. The immediate issue involves the alleged destruction and Tunick's intent when he supplied the code.

However, the statute only applies when the government acts under lawful authority. That requirement sits at the center of the defense's challenge.

Why the defense says the border phone search was unlawful

Tunick's attorneys argue that CBP officers violated his constitutional rights during the airport encounter. They claim agents detained him without a warrant, denied his requests to speak with an attorney and failed to advise him of his rights. The defense has asked the court to suppress statements and evidence connected to the inspection.

His attorneys also allege that agents used concerns about illegal material as a pretext to examine his connections to the movement opposing Atlanta's police and fire training facility. Opponents commonly call the facility Cop City. Tunick has participated in activism against the project, according to his defense team.

These remain defense allegations. Prosecutors dispute the claim that the airport encounter was unlawful and argue that officers acted under their border inspection authority. Magistrate Judge Christopher C. Bly held an evidentiary hearing on July 20, 2026. As of today, the court had not ruled on Tunick's motion to suppress. Therefore, Tunick remains presumed innocent unless prosecutors prove the charge beyond a reasonable doubt.

What authority CBP has to search phones at the US border

Federal officers have broader search authority at an international border than police usually have elsewhere in the country. The border-search exception allows the government to inspect travelers and their belongings as they enter the United States. International arrival areas inside airports serve as ports of entry for this purpose.

CBP says electronic-device searches can help officers investigate national security threats, child exploitation, smuggling and other violations enforced by the agency. CBP divides phone inspections into basic and advanced searches.

During a basic search, an officer manually reviews information stored on the device. An advanced search involves connecting external equipment that can copy or analyze its contents. Under CBP's current directive, an advanced search requires reasonable suspicion of an activity that violates a law enforced by CBP or a national security concern. A senior manager must also approve it.

However, federal courts have not adopted one uniform nationwide standard for every phone search at the border. The legal protection can depend on the search method and the federal jurisdiction where the inspection occurs. That uncertainty leaves travelers with fewer clear answers than they might expect.

Can you refuse to unlock your phone at the U.S. border?

A U.S. citizen cannot be denied entry solely because CBP cannot inspect a locked electronic device. Still, refusing access may extend the inspection. Officers can also detain the phone if a passcode or encryption prevents them from examining it.

CBP says a traveler must present a device in a condition that allows inspection. Its policy also states that U.S. citizens will not be denied entry solely because officers cannot inspect the device. Foreign visitors face different risks. Refusing to cooperate may affect whether CBP admits them to the United States.

Meanwhile, courts continue to wrestle with questions involving compelled passcodes and biometric unlocking. The answer may vary by jurisdiction and circumstance. Anyone carrying confidential business records or other highly sensitive material should consider speaking with a qualified attorney before international travel.

Why the timing of a phone wipe changes the legal risk

Removing personal information before a trip differs from deleting data after officers have begun an inspection. You may decide at home that you do not want to carry old files or unnecessary accounts across the border. You could also use a separate travel phone that contains less personal information.

Those choices happen before government agents stop you or take possession of the device. The legal risk changes once an active inspection begins. Prosecutors may view a deliberate wipe at that point as an attempt to interfere with a search or seizure.

In Tunick's case, his intent will likely become a major issue. Prosecutors say he provided the code while knowing what it would do. His lawyers maintain that the government lacked lawful authority from the start. The court must evaluate both sides before deciding whether the case moves forward.

How to protect your phone before international travel

The following steps can reduce how much personal information you carry without encouraging a confrontation during an inspection.

1) Limit the personal data you carry

Review the information stored on your phone before leaving home. Remove files that you will not need during the trip. A separate travel phone may make sense when your primary device contains sensitive business information or private communications. Keep only the apps and accounts you expect to use. 2) Back up important phone information

Create an encrypted backup before your trip. Confirm that you know how to restore it. A working backup can protect your photos, documents, contacts and account records if the phone is lost or held by authorities. Also, keep essential travel information somewhere besides your phone. A printed itinerary can help if you temporarily lose access to the device.

3) Strengthen your phone's lock-screen security

Use a strong passcode that someone cannot easily guess, and store it in a trusted password manager if needed. Avoid birthdays and repeated numbers. Turn off notification previews on the lock screen. Otherwise, text messages and account alerts may remain visible without authentication. Before leaving, review these iPhone and Android security settings that help protect your data.

4) Consider powering down before arrival

A full shutdown may place encrypted information on many modern phones into a more protected state before the first unlock. Make that decision before entering the inspection area. Suddenly powering down after an officer orders you to hand over the device could raise questions about your intent.

5) Understand what refusing access may trigger

U.S. citizens retain the right to enter the country. However, declining to unlock a phone can lead to delays or the temporary seizure of the device. The consequences may be more serious for foreign visitors. Anyone with immigration concerns should get advice based on their specific status before traveling.

6) Do not activate a wipe during an active inspection

A duress passcode may be legal to install. Using it while officers are trying to inspect or seize a phone creates a different risk. Tunick's prosecution shows that the government may treat that action as an intentional effort to destroy property. Do not make an irreversible decision based only on what a privacy feature promises. Once a federal inspection begins, your actions can become evidence in a criminal case.

7) Request documentation if CBP keeps your phone

Ask for a receipt that identifies the device and the agency holding it. After leaving the inspection area, write down what happened while the details remain fresh. Include the time, officers' names, questions asked and any paperwork you received. Those notes could help an attorney evaluate the encounter.

Florida men wielding hatchet and machete clash in Publix parking lot, police say

Two Florida men have been charged with aggravated battery after allegedly taking up arms — one with a machete and one with a hatchet — in a Publix parking lot.

The Aug. 4 "physical altercation" between Everette Krichbaum, 52, and James Gay, 35, was over a love interest, according to a police report.

Detectives reported Gay was the "primary aggressor" in the incident in Panama City.

Krichbaum was sitting in his car in the Publix parking lot when Gay first approached him and started a "verbal altercation," according to the arrest affidavit.

Gay then allegedly returned to his vehicle and came back with a machete in its sheath. He hit Krichbaum in the face with it, the document shows.

A feud between the two men had been brewing over a woman that Krichbaum is dating and Gay used to date, Stephanie Marshall told Fox News Digital. Marshall, who identified herself to Fox News Digital as Gay’s girlfriend, is listed as a witness on a report by the Panama City Police Department.

As the two men squared up, Krichbaum started swinging a hatchet, Gay told police.

When officers arrived, they found Gay with a deep cut on his pinky finger, exposing the bone, and a puncture in his lower abdomen, according to arrest records.

Krichbaum had multiple lacerations to his hands and face, the police report shows. He told investigators he became unconscious when Gay hit him in the head with a machete.

Both Gay and Krichbaum were taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment. The police report shows that Gay told police he was "attacked … over his ex-girlfriend."

That same day, Gay was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

It wasn’t Gay's first altercation that turned violent, records show. In 2011, he was convicted of aggravated battery in the killing of a 16-year-old boy near Panama City. In that incident, Gay used a chain wrapped around his hand to fracture the skull of the teen, court records show. Other co-defendants also were charged in the boy’s death.

In 2012, Gay was sentenced to 15 years in prison. He was released early in June 2024, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

On Aug. 5, after Krichbaum was released from the hospital, he was arrested by the Washington County Sheriff's Office and U.S. Marshals Service. He’s been charged with aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability.

As of Aug. 7, both Gay and Krichbaum were being held in the Bay County Jail. Fox News Digital could not reach either man for comment.

It was not immediately clear if Krichbaum has an attorney. Gay is listed as representing himself.

For Paul and Caroline Lacitinola, vintage camper trailers aren't just restored pieces of Americana — they're rolling memory machines.

The California couple, publishers of the Vintage Camper Trailers Magazine for the past 15 years, have spent two decades immersed in the vintage trailer community.

Their latest project, a cookbook filled with more than 120 family recipes, camper favorites and restaurant classics, celebrates the meals that have long brought people together around campsites across America.

"We've talked about doing it forever because we're kind of foodies," Paul Lacitinola said. "A cookbook just seemed like the natural combination of our vintage trailers and cars and classic stuff along with our other hobby — eating."

But the Lacitinolas said the Vintage Camper Trailer Cookbook is about preserving something much bigger than recipes.

"I really feel like the trailers have so much relationship in them that it's all about the people, and camping has a lot of emotional connection," Caroline Lacitinola said.

"A lot of times it was something people were raised doing. And, so, they walk into these vintage trailers and they remember their childhood. They remember their parents. They have connection in those ways."

She believes younger generations are embracing vintage camping for a different reason.

"I think the American dream has shifted a little bit from doing the 9-to-5 every single day to really experiencing life," she said.

The cookbook reflects that spirit by blending recipes contributed by family members, campers, the couple's children and favorites from Paul's former restaurants.

Some dishes carry especially strong childhood memories. Paul's favorite is what his family calls "Grandma Mandy" sandwiches — white bread stuffed with cheese and jelly before being toasted in a pie iron over the campfire.

"It sounds crazy," he admitted. "But believe me, they're delicious."

Caroline wasn't convinced at first.

"When I married him, I thought, 'There's no way,'" she laughed. "But they are actually really, really tasty."

At the couple's vintage trailer rallies, however, one tradition stands above the rest.

"The thing that we're kind of famous for ... is our pancake breakfast," Paul said.

Whether it's classic pancakes or creative versions topped with peanut butter and bacon or tres leches sauce, the breakfast has become a community favorite.

For Caroline, that's exactly the point.

"I think the essence of vintage camping is really community and connecting," she said. "Anything that you could do where you connect as a group is the essence of vintage camping to me. Because people are really the core of our hobby."

Every detail of my life, no matter how small, has been influenced by sports. My parents met at a Florida Relays track meet at the University of Florida. During my childhood, my mom was a Division II track coach at the Colorado School of Mines. I would spend my afternoons at practice with her, carefully observing every throw and every cue she gave her athletes.

Although my parents signed me up for every sport under the sun, all I ever wanted was to throw. Being exposed to college track at such a young age opened my eyes to the opportunities available through athletics. I worked relentlessly to "go DI." In the process, I won multiple high school state and national championships while forming a tight-knit web of friends across the country. I can say with the utmost confidence that I would not be the person I am today without track and field.

No experience has been more transformative than my time as a student-athlete at Clemson University. Clemson athletics has opened doors I never thought were possible. Every day, I wake up with the opportunity to better myself. How much stronger can I get? How much further can I throw? How much more can I learn?

As a Clemson student-athlete, I have access to world-class facilities and a family of coaches, staff, teammates and peers that pour into me every day. In my two years as a college athlete so far, I have learned to find my ceiling and break through it.

My coaches encouraged me to pursue both a B.S. and an MPA rather than taking a comparatively easier academic path. They also pushed me to pursue leadership roles through the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Executive Board, Atlantic Coast Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (ACC SAAC), internships, pre-professional organizations and a slew of volunteer opportunities. I would simply not be where I am without the support of Clemson Athletics.

I pray that every American athlete has the opportunity to live out their dreams just as I have. Sports teach us how to work hard, overcome adversity, be coachable, manage our time, and build lifelong relationships in the process. Every child in the United States should have the opportunity to play sports at the highest level.

TED CRUZ URGES SENATE TO STAY IN WASHINGTON UNTIL PROTECT COLLEGE SPORTS ACT PASSES THIS WEEK

Congress has the duty to protect American athletes. The NCAA v. Alston and House v. NCAA decisions have created chaos within the NCAA. The patchwork of state laws and court decisions has created an unstable landscape for college sports.

Well-funded institutions like Clemson work hard to provide both revenue and non-revenue athletes with the tools they need to succeed. However, the disparities between Power 4 and mid-major programs continue to widen, and opportunities for American high school athletes are diminishing. The combination of post-House roster caps, transfer portal reliance on high school talent, and lingering eligibility waivers has slashed roster spots for walk-ons and compressed recruiting pipelines.

The consequences extend beyond recruiting. I have witnessed some of my closest friends get cut from their teams to accommodate roster caps. Budgets continue to tighten as schools stretch to provide more scholarships and services to athletes. Some universities have eliminated Olympic sports like men’s swimming or track and field altogether, while conferences have dropped championship sponsorship for others.

I have also seen the unbridled growth of revenue sharing and Name, Image, Likeness (NIL). These changes have been both a blessing and a curse for student-athletes. On one hand, football, basketball, and other revenue-earning sports deserve to share in the value they bring in for their schools, and, as an Olympic sport athlete, words cannot describe how grateful I am for them. Not only are they fun to watch, but their success helps fund opportunities for athletes like me. At the same time, there are no guardrails to protect athletes from unregistered agents or excessive fees, leaving many students vulnerable to exploitation.

The transfer portal has also fundamentally changed college athletics, uprooting any resemblance of school loyalty that once existed. I personally know athletes who have transferred two or more times, and it’s no secret that forming a deep-rooted team culture is already difficult, let alone when the composition of your team changes every year. The tradition and loyalty that have long defined college sports are effectively dying, and without reasonable regulation, the problem will only continue to grow.

We are approaching a point of no return. Congress must intervene before college sports as we now know them are destroyed. Not just for current NCAA athletes like me, but also for athletes like my little brother, who is about to start his first year as a Division I lacrosse player at a mid-major program, my little sister, who dreams of playing lacrosse at a Power 4 school, and every young athlete working toward and dreaming about the chance to compete in the NCAA.

College athletics changes lives. If we don’t protect it, we will close countless doors across the country that catapult kids into better opportunities. S. 4668, the Protect College Sports Act, is our best shot to establish a level playing field for all college athletes, revenue and non-revenue. While no bill is perfect, this legislation is necessary to establish a framework of laws to govern revenue sharing and NIL, the transfer portal, and eligibility — protecting Olympic sports and millions of student-athletes.

If Congress fails to act now, the opportunities that have transformed my life may not exist for the next generation because college sports will be too far gone.

Florida attorney general offers his response to brutal foul on Sophie Cunningham

One of the wildest moments of the WNBA season — which is saying a lot these days — came on Saturday between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky.

DiJonai Carrington of the Sky was handed a Flagrant 2 foul for appearing to clothesline the Fever's Sophie Cunningham.

The incident has gotten people talking, with even the Florida attorney general chiming in.

His take: a play like that would never happen in the Sunshine State.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier hopped on X after the incident and explained why there's not currently a WNBA club in the state.

Well, if that's the case, I can see why the league has been hesitant to head down to Florida in recent years.

Florida previously had two clubs, but the state has not been home to a WNBA franchise for over 20 years. The Orlando Miracle played in the league from 1999 to 2002, but relocated to Connecticut, where they currently play as the Connecticut Sun.

Two people, including an infant, died after a boat capsized near Liberty Island in New York Harbor on Saturday night, authorities said.

The NYPD told Fox News Digital that officers responded to a report of an overturned vessel in the vicinity of Liberty Island at around 10:25 p.m.

Twelve people were rescued from the water before police arrived, according to authorities.

An adult female and an infant were later located in the water by NYPD divers. Both were transported to NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn in critical condition, where they were later pronounced dead. Their identities have not been released.

Police said some of the other passengers were also transported to the hospital and are believed to be in stable condition.

The cause of the capsizing remains under investigation. Police said no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

A police source told Fox News Digital that the vessel was a 22-foot bowrider.

The NYPD's Harbor Unit, Scuba Team and Aviation Unit responded to the scene along with the U.S. Coast Guard.

Since the White House released a July 2026 report accusing the Smithsonian Institution of advancing DEI and left-wing agendas, Fox News Digital has documented multiple examples. Most recently, the Smithsonian’s America 250 exhibit featured roughly three times as many items highlighting liberal figures and causes as conservative ones, prompting criticism that it presented an ideologically imbalanced account of American history.

Other examples included the Smithsonian's promotion of a museum training guide that linked concepts such as objectivity and merit to "white dominant culture," a program the institution later apologized for after public backlash.

Meanwhile, Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch III has faced scrutiny after saying DEI "must be at the center" of museum institutions, while receiving more than $4.4 million in salary and benefits from 2020 through 2024.

With taxpayer dollars at stake, the institution's budget has become a central front in the Trump administration's broader debate over how the Smithsonian presents American history.

A Fox News Digital analysis of Smithsonian budget requests shows the institution sought increasingly larger federal appropriations during the Biden administration, with annual requests climbing from $960 million in fiscal 2019 to a record $1.24 billion in fiscal 2024.

After requesting more than $1 billion in fiscal year 2025, the Trump administration proposed budgets below that threshold for fiscal years 2026 and 2027, the first such requests since fiscal year 2020.

While the overall budget has fluctuated over the years, the bulk of the Smithsonian's federal funding is dedicated to keeping the institution operating day to day.

The Smithsonian's budget is less about new exhibits than keeping the institution running.

Of the nearly $960 million federal budget request, a little more than $524 million funds the Smithsonian's day-to-day operations, including staff, security, facilities and technology.

Another $310 million finances museum activity and research, while the rest supports building improvements, planning and oversight.

Not all Smithsonian museums receive the same level of taxpayer support.

The National Museum of Natural History tops the 2026 funding requests at $51 million, followed by the National Museum of the American Indian at nearly $35 million. Meanwhile, the National Zoo receives about $34 million in funding, while the National Museum of American History accounts for $27 million.
