Norway's boat-rowing (even if historically inaccurate) run through the World Cup has come to an end after a 2-1 quarterfinal loss to England.

The match wasn't without controversy, however, as Norway surprisingly substituted one of the tournament's most electric players, Erling Haaland.

The Manchester City star had seven goals in the tournament, but was kept scoreless on Saturday.

Worse yet, it was a pre-corner foul of his that cost Norway what would've been their second goal of the match.

However, it was shocking to see the 25-year-old get subbed off in favor of Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Of course, many wondered whether Haaland had sustained an injury, but let's just say the decision to pull him with 15 minutes left in extra time and Norway trailing by a goal wasn't a popular one on social media.

Of course, we'll certainly get some more info on this after the fact — I'm not super familiar with Norwegian sports media, but I'm sure they'll ask manager Ståle Solbakken about this one — but it's still disappointing.

Haaland had an incredible tournament and became one of the most popular players in it. It's just a bummer to see his tournament end with him sitting on the bench, whether that was due to injury or because of a questionable substitution.

It was still a great run for Norway, and I don't think it would be wild to see something like this again four years from now in Saudi Arabia at the next World Cup.

But now, the tournament is almost down to its final four.

France and Spain will face off in one semifinal match, while the Three Lions await the winner of Saturday night's match between Argentina and Switzerland.

Gunfire shatters Toronto Latin street festival, leaving at least 2 dead and 3 injured

The Toronto Police Service is investigating after gunfire broke out Saturday night at a large Latin street festival in Midtown Toronto, leaving at least two people dead and three others injured.

Police said they received reports of a shooting at St. Clair Avenue West and Arlington Avenue at 8:12 p.m. local time and discovered an active shooter situation.

First responders found five people suffering from gunshot wounds, officials said. Two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unclear what led to the shooting, and police have not yet confirmed any arrests.

Following the shooting, the Toronto Transit Commission suspended train stops at the nearby St. Clair West station on Line 1 Yonge-University due to what officials described as a "security incident."

Regular transit service has since resumed.

Authorities urged the public to avoid the area and follow all directives from police at the scene.

The TD Salsa on St. Clair Festival, Toronto’s biggest Latin culture celebration, was celebrating its 22nd annual event in Toronto's Hillcrest Village.

The Toronto Police Service did not immediately respond to additional inquiries from Fox News Digital.

"Die Hard" actor Robert Davi blasted New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani Friday after a city map highlighting immigrant enclaves omitted Little Italy.

The "New York City Immigrant Enclaves" map resurfaced on social media earlier this week after users pointed out it omitted Little Italy, as well as historically Jewish and Irish neighborhoods, despite highlighting 30 immigrant communities across the five boroughs.

Following criticism from Italian-American groups, the city said it plans to update the map to include Little Italy.

Davi, who was born in Astoria, Queens, lashed out at Mamdani in a video posted on X, calling him a "jerk" for snubbing Little Italy.

"I hope every New York Italian American and Irish American spits on you when they see you," Davi said. "I would spit on you if I saw you. Shame on you, you garbage man. Shame on you. Respect the city you're in and understand the people who helped build it."

"My grandparents came from Sicily and Naples and they taught me, speak the English. This is America. God bless America," the 75-year-old "Licence to Kill" actor said.

"My grandfather enlisted in World War I and got wounded three times … he helped build New York City as an immigrant, an Italian immigrant," he continued.

The veteran actor also suggested the mayor, whom he described as a "leftist Marxist Communist," leave the United States.

"Go back to where you were born, Mamdani," Davi said. "You don't belong in America."

Mamdani was born in Kampala, Uganda, and moved to the United States when he was 7 years old.

"You should spend time in America, at least a generation, especially those of you that come from a country that has a totally different philosophical ideology bent," he said.

The mayor's office previously directed Fox News Digital to remarks Mamdani made during an unrelated press conference Friday, where he defended the map and said it had originally been created under the previous administration in 2023.

"This map was initially created by the prior administration in 2023, and when we inherited it, we added a few additional neighborhoods," Mamdani said. "It's clearly not an exhaustive list of the more than 200 ethnic communities that call our city home, and we're going to be making additional changes in the future to reflect that and that includes Little Italy."

Fox News Digital has reached out to Mamdani's office for comment.

Last American to use an iron lung dies at 78 years old after childhood polio diagnosis

A 78-year-old Oklahoma woman who was diagnosed with polio as a child and was the last American to rely on an iron lung to live has died.

Martha Lillard found out she had the once-feared disease when she was 5 years old, which left her paralyzed from the neck down, and required her to use the machine to help her breathe while she slept.

Lillard contracted COVID-19 twice during the pandemic, which left her in the machine nearly 24 hours a day.

"They told her she wasn't supposed to live past 20 years old," her younger sister, Cindy McVey, told The Associated Press on Friday. "She had the enthusiasm and the drive to continue living and make the best of her life."

Despite having polio, Lillard was able to go to school two hours a day as a child, and she had tutors the rest of the time. She also used an intercom phone system that allowed her to interact with her teachers and classmates from home.

Lillard was even able to take road trips as a child because of a custom trailer that could accommodate the iron lung and her father making sure their hotels had wide enough doors for the machine.

An iron lung is a negative-pressure ventilator that would help a patient with paralyzed lung muscles breathe.

The disease once caused thousands of cases of paralysis in children during outbreaks each year in the first part of the 20th century before a vaccine became available in 1955.

By 1979, polio was considered eliminated in the U.S.

Later, Lillard was able to regain the use of her left arm and legs through therapy and was even able to drive for a time.

She lived independently for many years, even marrying earlier this year to a man from Egypt she corresponded with for two decades after he was able to obtain a visa.

"They were really soul mates," McVey said. "He's extremely brokenhearted."

Lillard, who her sister said wrote poetry and volunteered with the Humane Society, had just 25% lung capacity before she was diagnosed with COVID.

She died of chronic pulmonary failure and post-polio syndrome, according to her death certificate.

Her sister added that it was related to the effects of long-haul COVID.

In a post on X, Beshear connected his recent push for the lawmaker’s transparency to past national debates, writing, "I publicly and privately urged the last administration to address the public’s concerns with the former president’s health. As the 2026 FIFA World Cup progresses into its final stages, we're going to get more downright titanic clashes, and one of them was Saturday's quarterfinal match between England and Norway.

Sure, England — with the likes of offensive machines like Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham — is always a team to watch, but Norway has been a surprise dark horse.

Of course, that's thanks to the force of nature that is Norway's Erling Haaland, who has quickly become one of the most popular players in the United States, and the feeling is mutual.

With so much firepower on the pitch, there was a good chance that there was going to be some serious fireworks.

However, the first 20-plus minutes or so — up to the hydration break — were really just a feeling-out process with neither team getting any real, dangerous scoring opportunities.

In the 28th minute, England was awarded a free kick, which Kane drove past the Norwegian wall, but up over the crossbar.

England nearly took a lead into the locker room at the half when Kane found the back of the net just minutes later; however, it was ruled to be offside.

In the early part of the second half, both sides exchanged some scoring opportunities, which included a tough shot that English goalkeeper Jordan Pickford had to tip over the crossbar for a Norwegian corner.

That one was fended off, but moments later Norway was awarded another corner, which England deflected out for another corner.

The third time was (kind of) the charm, and the Norwegians ended up putting the ball in the back of the net, but it was called back due to a foul on Haaland.

That meant Norway had to retake the corner, which England managed to defend.

Norway looked dangerous on set pieces and nearly scored on another one later in the half, only for England to get bailed out by the crossbar.

England got some late opportunities of their own, but neither team could break the tie, and it was off to extra time.

In the 93rd minute — who else? — Jude Bellingham gave England their first lead of the match, and that was all they needed.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with some of the more personal aspects of my life, I lost my dog Rooney about three and a half months ago.

He was an 11–12-year-old lab mix that my wife and I rescued in the latter half of his life, and even though we only had him for about six years, we created a lifetime of memories with him.

Even nearly four months later, I still find myself thinking about the hole he left in our lives and there are times when doing even mundane tasks around the house reminds me of him.

I say all of this to underscore that I still probably haven't completely gotten over having to put him down back in March, so when talks started to commence in recent weeks about potentially looking for a new dog, I met those conversations with mixed emotions.

The first time my wife mentioned thinking about "the next dog," my face scrunched in disgust.

How could she even consider replacing Rooney so soon?

Then I thought a little more about it and considered my two-year-old son, who only just started to develop a bond with Rooney right before we lost him.

I got even more heartbroken imagining my son falling in love with the new dog, as the memory of Rooney slowly faded from his mind as he aged.

Not to mention the fact that we still have another dog, Elle, who will probably have a full-on stroke if/when we bring a young, energetic puppy into our increasingly crowded house.

I clearly wasn't handling the suggestion well, but I slept on it, and I'm not sure if it's just because my wife has worn me down, but I'm starting to see another side to this whole thing.

Getting another dog doesn't mean forgetting Rooney entirely, and although there is still some scarring from losing him, the pain has been dulled significantly over the last few months.

And does it really make a difference if we wait another three months, six months, a year, before we get another dog?

Part of me says yes, but part of me says no.

My wife and I are opposites when it comes to change and sentimentality.

She's very Type-A, and is almost eager to embrace change. While I tend to be more reflective and resist change unless it's smacking me right in the face.

Perhaps that's the crux of this whole thing. I don't think my wife loved Rooney any less than I did, I just think it's in her nature to move on quicker than I do.

I think having a young child changes the calculus as well.

If we were childless, I'd imagine the timeline to get a new dog would be elongated, but I know my wife is keen on the idea of getting our son a dog of his own so they can "grow up together."

All of this still warrants the simple question: When is it "appropriate" to get a new dog after losing your four-legged best friend?

Additionally, is there ever an appropriate time? Or do you just have to "feel it out?"

It's a complex situation that I'm not sure has the correct answer, and yet here we sit at the crossroads of it all.

Another US citizen tests positive for Ebola virus while working in Congo amid record outbreak

A U.S. citizen working in the Democratic Republic of the Congo tested positive for Ebola this week, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said, as the virus continues to spread in Central Africa.

The unidentified American, who works for a humanitarian organization, is the second U.S. citizen to test positive for Ebola amid the current outbreak.

Dr. Peter Stafford fully recovered after being evacuated to Germany from the Congo in May during the first week of the outbreak.

EBOLA TREATMENT CENTER SET ON FIRE IN CONGO AFTER RESIDENTS CLASH WITH AUHORITIES OVER VICTIM'S BODY

"CDC is aware of a U.S. citizen working for a humanitarian organization in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) who has tested positive for Bundibugyo virus, a type of Ebola," the CDC said of the second case in a statement Friday.

"CDC is working with the patient's employing organization, other U.S. federal agencies, public health authorities and partners in DRC to help prevent further transmission by supporting contact tracing and performing risk assessments to identify high-risk contacts."

Stafford returned to the U.S. last month after testing negative for the virus.

"I am filled with gratitude to God for preserving my life, to all those who prayed on my behalf, and to the many medical providers who cared for me," he said in a statement. "I am feeling well and thankful to be reunited with Rebekah and the kids. Our prayers continue for those in Congo who are facing this devastating epidemic and for the ongoing efforts to control the disease."

And by that, I mean MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred goofed up the first overall pick's name.

The Chicago White Sox had the first overall pick in this year's draft, and they used it to select UCLA's Roch Cholowsky.

However, Manfred read the star shortstop's name as "Cho-LOO-skee," which wouldn't be a problem if that's how it's pronounced.

But it isn't. It's "Chill-OW-skee."

Now, in Manfred's defense — which might be the first time that phrase has ever been written out — names aren't easy. Athlete names can be especially tricky.

There just aren't many John Smiths or Jeff Johnsons out there these days.

So, I get it... kind of.

As is the case for most drafts, there are some players expected to go in the first few picks, and Cholowsky was one of the frontrunners.

It's unreasonable to expect picture-perfect pronunciation of every name called during the draft, but getting the three to five players expected to go at the top right doesn't seem like too much to ask.

If I had to do that, I would be practicing those names like crazy. I'd be able to say those names forward and backward in my sleep.

Of course, the gravity of the moment would probably lead to me messing them up anyway, but dammit, I'd give it the ol' college try.

What's interesting is that this is the second straight major pro draft that led off with an awkward first-overall pick.

Manfred muffed this one, and back at the NHL Draft in June, Justin Bieber clearly skipped the run-through when he decided to go freestyle while announcing that the Toronto Maple Leafs were taking Gavin McKenna with the first overall pick.

Army Black Hawks airlift 200-plus stranded campers as Missouri floods trigger more 350 rescues

In a high-stakes rescue operation Friday, Army National Guard Black Hawk helicopters swooped into Reynolds County, Missouri, to airlift 202 young campers and staff members stranded by rapidly rising floodwaters at Camp Taum Sauk along the Black River in the Missouri Ozarks.

Video released by the Missouri State Highway Patrol captured the tense moments as children ran to board the waiting helicopters.

The campers, ages 8 to 16, and their counselors were successfully evacuated and taken to St. Louis, where they were safely reunited with their families, troopers said.

So the Los Angeles Sparks recognizing and even inviting failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris to speak to the team after their win shouldn't surprise anyone.

As people prepare to travel for summer vacation, a top pest-control company is revealing the U.S. cities where you’re likely to encounter bedbugs.

Bedbugs are small insects that feed on blood and live near humans or animals, favoring places we sleep or rest, such as beds, couches and nearby furniture. They can cause itchy bites, skin irritation, and in some cases, allergic reactions.

Chicago once again topped the list of Orkin’s 2026 Bed Bug Cities List, retaining the pest control and extermination company’s number one ranking as America’s city where it performed the most bedbug treatments.

Orkin announced last year that the Windy City had held onto its spot as the most bedbug-infested city in the nation for the fifth consecutive year.

Los Angeles, Detroit, Cleveland and Indianapolis rounded out the top five this year. Popular tourist hot spots Tampa and Myrtle Beach experienced increased bedbug activity, Orkin reported.

"Many cities where bedbug activity has been the worst in the last year are also some of the country’s most popular travel destinations and are expected to welcome large numbers of visitors for major concerts, festivals and sporting events throughout the summer and beyond," Orkin announced in a press release.

Nashville and Oklahoma City each climbed 10 spots on this year’s list, the company said, while Youngstown, Omaha and Knoxville recorded some of the largest declines.

According to Orkin, "These year-over-year changes highlight the persistent and evolving nature of bedbug activity across the nation."

The rankings are based on treatment data from metro areas where Orkin performed the most bedbug treatments from May 2025 to May 12, 2026, and includes both residential and commercial bedbug treatments.

A report by casino.ca released earlier this summer ranked Michigan as the state with the highest estimated risk of encountering bedbugs, followed by Ohio, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, Fox News Digital previously reported. Hawaii and Oregon ranked lowest on the list.

Warren, Michigan, topped the list of U.S. cities, with North Las Vegas, Nevada, and Madison, Wisconsin, also ranking among the biggest hot spots, according to the report.

The casino.ca analysis combined bedbug data from Orkin and Terminix with TripAdvisor hotel reviews, treatment records and social-media posts to estimate travelers' risk of encountering bedbugs.

While such reports "make for fun reads," Zachary DeVries, associate professor of urban entomology at the University of Kentucky, previously cautioned Fox News Digital against putting too much stock in them.

"The main problem I have with these [rankings] is they make it seem like urban areas have all the bedbug problems, but from some recent work we’ve done and anecdotal reports, we know bedbugs can show up anywhere — urban, suburban or rural," he said.

"In fact, while people are more packed together in urban areas and thus more likely to bump into bedbugs, those living in rural areas may have less access to good pest control services and thus may find it more difficult to get rid of bedbugs," he added.

Dini Miller, professor of urban pest management at Virginia Tech, told Fox News Digital that places tend to get attention for bedbugs when people are visiting and looking for them.

Retired Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr says multiple teams have reached out about a comeback

Never say never, right? At least that's what Derek Carr says.

Carr, 35, retired in May 2025 after 11 seasons, but the four-time Pro Bowler said that multiple teams have tried to bring him back.

"There were multiple teams that reached out to me this offseason. I won't say who or how, but they reached out and was just gauging my interest on what I wanted to do. They were good, solid football teams," Carr said during a recent appearance on NFL Network’s "Good Morning Football."

Carr didn’t shut down the possibility of a return but said it would take a "special situation" to come back.

"I never say never. It would take a special situation," Carr said.

"I think I’m just at the point where I just want to win. I want to win," Carr said. "So, if I were to do it, it would have to be a special team that maybe lost somebody or needed somebody, but even then, it's not guaranteed."

Carr said he is always training and staying in shape but is enjoying being a husband and father.

"I'm having too much fun hanging out with my wife, hanging out with my kids and trying to get good at golf. So, it would take a special deal."

The Saints signed Carr to a four-year, $150 million contract in 2023 and still own his rights, meaning if he were to return, a team would have to acquire him from the Saints. The Saints, who drafted quarterback Tyler Shough in the 2025 NFL draft, would presumably be willing to facilitate a trade after Shough impressed.

Even if Carr played last season, he might not have taken a snap due to multiple shoulder injuries. In March 2025, while Carr was preparing for the season, he experienced pain in his right shoulder.

The Saints announced that medical scans determined Carr sustained a labral tear and had significant degenerative changes to his rotator cuff. The team’s medical staff and Carr considered surgery on his shoulder, but there was no guarantee the quarterback would have the same strength, function and performance he was used to.

In Carr’s last season, he played 10 games and completed 67.7% of his passes for 2,145 yards with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions. The Saints went 5-5 in his starts.

Carr’s season was cut short when he sustained a concussion and a left hand injury on the same play against the New York Giants.

In 169 career regular season games, Carr has a record of 77-92, a 65.1% completion percentage and has thrown for 41,245 yards with 257 touchdowns and 112 interceptions. He spent nine seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders and two with the Saints.

Irish police under fire for refusing to identify reported asylum seeker sought in American mother's murder

An international manhunt is in its fifth day after the murder of an American woman in Ireland, but Irish police have yet to name a suspect or provide any description of the man they are seeking. And that decision is drawing sharp criticism from many, including a former FBI agent and an Irish politician.

Jamey Carney, 43, a New York native who moved to Ireland in 2021, was found dead after suffering head injuries and suffocating in her home in the picturesque town of Killarney, County Kerry, late Monday, according to The Irish Times. The idyllic southwestern town is popular among American tourists.

Before Carney's body was discovered Tuesday, the man Irish police describe as a "person of interest" had already traveled about 200 miles from Killarney to Dublin Airport and boarded a flight to Turkey, according to Irish police, suggesting authorities knew his identity but chose not to disclose it publicly.

Some Irish publications have reported that the person of interest is an asylum seeker originally from Jordan who traveled to Ireland in 2024 amid an influx of illegal immigrants descending on the island country.

Ex-FBI agent weighs in

"How is the public supposed to help with locating the alleged suspect when Irish authorities won't even release his name?" former FBI Special Agent Nicole Parker wondered in an interview with Fox News Digital. "Time is of the essence. Every hour or day increases the chance the suspect disappears, destroys evidence or hurts others. Public help is critical. Withholding a photo, name or description for days while the suspect is on the run is counterproductive."

Parker said that if the roles were reversed and a non-U.S. citizen had been murdered in the United States, authorities would typically release identifying information immediately.

"Law enforcement — local, state and federal, including the FBI and U.S. Marshals — would aggressively release identifying information to the public," she said. "The public's help is often what leads to locating fugitives."

Immigration debate

Irish broadcaster RTÉ reported police said they were not in a position to comment on the person's age, name or nationality for legal reasons, though authorities did not specify any such legal basis.

A 2015 immigration law protecting the identities of asylum seekers may explain why Irish police have not identified the person of interest, Gript.ie reported. According to the outlet, the law generally prohibits publishing the identities of asylum seekers to protect them from those they claim to be fleeing.

Fox News Digital asked Irish police to identify the person of interest and explain the legal basis for withholding his identity, but they declined to provide any new information, saying only that there were "no additional updates at this time."

Independent Dublin City Councilor Gavin Pepper, a critic of mass immigration into Ireland, slammed the decision not to publicly identify the person of interest. He said the failure to do so is a serious public safety concern.

"That man had a substantial head start," Pepper told Fox News Digital. "At the end of the day, it shouldn't matter what color your skin is. If you commit a heinous crime, your face should be all over every newspaper, every TV station. A manhunt is a manhunt."

Irish police are treating Carney's death as a murder.

HERE'S WHY IRELAND IS AT BOILING POINT OVER MASS IMMIGRATION

Pepper said that had authorities publicly released the person's identity sooner, law enforcement in the country where he landed could potentially have been waiting for him.

Not everyone agreed with emphasizing the man's reported immigration status.

Ruth Coppinger, a member of the Irish parliament with the Trotskyist political party People Before Profit, criticized media reports identifying the man as an asylum seeker, accusing some outlets of "stoking the flames of racism," according to Gript.ie. She argued in the Irish parliament that "the common denominator in violence against women is a man, not a nationality."

The person of interest

Several news outlets — including the New York Post, The Irish Mirror, the Irish Independent and the Irish Examiner — identified the 28-year-old person of interest by name. Irish police and the Department of Justice declined to confirm his identity to Fox News Digital.

Carney's body was discovered by her 13-year-old daughter in an upstairs bedroom of their home just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, The Irish Times reported.

Irish police issued alerts to airports, ports, train stations and bus stations within just over an hour of Carney's body being discovered, the Irish Independent reported. However, the person of interest had already left Ireland.

The search is becoming increasingly difficult as the hours and days pass.

Irish police are now working with Interpol, Europol and Turkish authorities to try to locate the man after he flew to Istanbul. Detectives fear he may already have left Turkey with local assistance and traveled onward to Syria or his native Jordan, according to reports.

An Irish police source also told Fox News Digital locating the man will be difficult because he had already fled the country. Investigators believe he first arrived in the United Kingdom before traveling to Ireland, according to reports.

The killing comes as Ireland grapples with a rise in violence against women. Gript.ie reported that eight women have died in violent circumstances in the country this year, matching the total for all of 2025. According to the outlet's analysis, only one of the identified or sought suspects in those cases was an Irish national.

Ireland does not record the ethnicity of those who commit crimes.

A New Yorker who settled in Ireland

Carney was originally from Westchester County, just north of New York City. She moved to Ireland in 2021, according to the Irish Independent.

Her social media profiles described her as a "New Yorker in Ireland" and featured photos and videos of her with her daughter and a man she identified as her partner. In one recent post, she referred to them as a "mixed couple."

Carney's social media accounts also showed she supported the Free Palestine movement. Her Facebook bio described her as a "New Yorker in Ireland," included the phrase "Free Palestine" and said "Fk Ice," an apparent reference to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Several posts also showed the couple attending pro-Palestinian rallies together.

Posts on the social media accounts of the man named in media reports referred to Carney as "my love" and "my heart."

Carney's LinkedIn profile indicated she worked for a healthcare outsourcing company in Ireland after previously working as an insurance agent and real estate salesperson in the New York metropolitan area.

Carney's sister, Devon Bennett, described her as "an insanely caring human being" who "dedicated so much of herself, her energy and her time to fighting for the rights of others," according to the Irish Independent. Bennett said Carney was especially proud of her "brilliant daughter, Michaela."

"We grew up in New York, but she spent much of her best years with Michaela in Bergen County, New Jersey," Bennett told the outlet.

"Their true home, where they both felt they truly belonged, was the beautiful town of Killarney."

Aaron Lewis is opening up about why he thinks industry executives have cast him aside.

During a recent interview on the "Pickin’ It Out with Andrew Pope" podcast, the 54-year-old musician spoke about his upcoming record and why he believes the music industry has turned its back on him.

"Everything's too political now," he explained. "I've played the [Grand Ole] Opry a whole bunch of times, and I don't get invited to the Opry anymore. All because I believe in this beautiful, amazing country that we're so blessed to have."

The musician first found fame as the lead vocalist and founding member of the band Staind. He stayed with the band until the early 2000s, before embarking on a successful solo career in 2010.

Lewis isn't the only musician to deal with backlash due to politics.

Vanilla Ice recently received backlash when he was announced as one of the performers at the Great American State Fair, celebrating the 250th anniversary of America.

A New York City police officer arrested Wednesday night on charges including rape and sexual acts against a child previously admitted to violating department rules, including engaging in a dangerous high-speed chase and allegedly failing to activate his body camera, the district attorney's office says.

The 39-year-old officer, Joshua Acosta, was taken into custody while he was off duty around 7:46 p.m. within Brooklyn’s 61st Precinct, an NYPD spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital. The precinct covers part of southern Brooklyn.

An 11-count criminal complaint alleges Acosta committed numerous sex acts against a girl when she was younger than 13 and younger than 17 years old. The alleged abuse lasted from September 2021 until June 2026, the complaint said.

Acosta's defense attorneys, Jason Goldman and David Gelfand, told Fox News Digital that while the allegations against him are "undoubtedly serious," they are "demonstrably false."

"While it is deeply unfortunate that Officer Acosta has had his reputation smeared, we look forward to clearing his name through the proper channels once all the facts come to light," they said in a statement.

Documents from the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office — the same office that is now prosecuting Acosta — show he was the subject of multiple civilian complaints years before his arrest.

Acosta admitted fault in an incident while he was on patrol in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, the documents obtained by Fox News Digital showed.

On Jan. 4, 2019, Acosta initiated a pursuit of a suspect and topped out at 56 mph "without taking into consideration the nature of the offense, time of day, location, population density and police necessity," the documents said.

Acosta allegedly failed to activate his bodycam during the chase or during the ensuing traffic stop, the documents said.

The case was closed July 30, 2020, and Acosta's punishment was him forfeiting 15 vacation days, according to the documents.

Two other complaints against Acosta were filed with the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB), the city agency tasked with investigating and prosecuting misconduct by NYPD officers.

While one case was listed as pending, the CCRB was able to substantiate allegations made about an incident that occurred Sept. 26, 2019.

The CCRB said Acosta engaged in abuse involving a verbal or physical threat of force, entry of premises and a frisk, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office. For this, he was subjected to Schedule B command discipline, which is more serious than Schedule A.

There were two other cases against Acosta, one involving an armed robbery suspect who had been chased inside a home on June 19, 2019, according to a CCRB review document obtained by Fox News Digital.

Acosta entered a residence after the suspect was handcuffed and searched through "several drawers and rooms," according to the CCRB document. He allegedly later told investigators that he did not receive orders to conduct the search and had only done so to locate possible guns, according to the CCRB.

On Aug. 4, 2021, an inspector with the Police Commissioner's Office sent a letter to the CCRB saying Acosta would receive training on how to conduct lawful searches of private property.

"While Officer Acosta's limited search was unauthorized, he did not receive any guidance from available supervisors at the scene and clearly engaged in his actions in good faith," the letter said.

The remaining case against Acosta, which was listed as pending, alleged that he responded to a family dispute Aug. 29, 2020, and failed to "conduct a proper field investigation," according to the document from the Brooklyn DA.

Gelfand, Acosta's attorney, said the allegations of misconduct as a police officer are irrelevant to his case.

"Law enforcement has one of the most difficult jobs in our society. They are routinely criticized and vilified, with every step they take under a microscope. The fact that Officer Acosta has been the subject of 3 [to] 4 such accusations over the course of 14 years is neither relevant nor noteworthy. We look forward to fighting his case on the merits and clearing his name of the baseless accusations lodged against him," Gelfand said in a statement.

The Brooklyn DA's office declined to comment beyond what is contained in the disclosure documents.

The NYPD did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Bryce Harper video to FanDuel user with gambling addiction under review by Pennsylvania officials

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is reviewing a video from Bryce Harper to a FanDuel bettor who claims to have struggled with a gambling addiction.

FanDuel acquired the video through Cameo, where the Philadelphia Phillies star charges $899, and sent it to Terry Thompson. a source familiar told Fox News Digital.

Thompson lost $1.5 million gambling, resulting in the foreclosure of his home. He hid his addiction from his loved ones and planned to take his own life, but instead "voluntarily placed himself into a psychiatric facility where he stayed for six days," where he was "formally diagnosed with a gambling addiction disorder."

However, a lawsuit filed by Thompson says FanDuel and DraftKings enabled his gambling addiction through "promotional offers and gifts."

Thompson accuses his FanDuel VIP host, Bryttani Morgan, of offering Super Bowl tickets, accommodations and other luxuries in an effort to keep him gambling on the online sportsbook. The Harper video is not mentioned in the suit.

"We are aware of the situation and are reviewing it," Doug Harbach, a spokesperson for the board, said Friday, via PennLive. "I can’t comment beyond that at this juncture."

Thompson's lawsuit admits that Morgan suggested "we...[take] a timeout" after a rough stretch, but alleges she shortly afterward got in touch with him about an "emergency."

The emergency in question? "FanDuel’s offer of yet another Super Bowl gift package that included two tickets for Super Bowl LVII in Arizona, free hotel accommodations, two tickets to a FanDuel Super Bowl party, two tickets to a Sports Illustrated Super Bowl party, and free transportation during Super Bowl weekend," the suit states.

"Thereafter, Plaintiff Thompson continued to lose large sums of money on the FanDuel Sportsbook App, and Defendant Morgan continued to supply him with free tickets to Philadelphia sporting events and free betting credits to ensure that he would do so."

When asked in an email for a response to the review, FanDuel said it said it is "committed to fostering a culture of responsible gaming and protecting our customers."

"Unlike illegal offshore sportsbooks, FanDuel employees are trained to recognize and flag signs of problem gambling and offer resources and tools, and we continue to review and strengthen our policies to ensure we have the industry’s strongest consumer protection initiatives," a FanDuel spokesperson said to Fox News Digital.

When asked by Fox News Digital whether Thompson was offered "resources and tools" to combat his addiction, one of his attorneys pointed to the aforementioned suggested "break."

Preseason rankings in college football have become a hot topic of conversation nearly every July and August.

While the college football world still eagerly awaits the 2026 edition of the preseason polls, it's good to remember that these rankings are somewhat of an inexact science.

It's fun to argue and joust with other fans about where you believe your team should be slotted in the first edition of the official rankings of the college football season, but sometimes being a highly ranked team heading into the year can be a death sentence.

The combination of sky-high expectations and overlooking holes in the roster can lead to disastrous seasons for teams whose goals may have been a bit too lofty, and there's plenty of historical precedent to prove it.

With that in mind, here are five of the most disappointing preseason top-10 teams from the 21st century.

Believe it or not, there was a time when the Oregon State Beavers were a budding powerhouse in college football.

The 2000 season was a glimpse into what the Beavers could be under the direction of head coach Dennis Erickson, featuring an 11-win season and a throttling of traditional blue blood Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.

All signs were pointing up heading into 2001, but for whatever reason, Oregon State bottomed out before they even had a chance to get things going.

After starting the season in the top 10, the Beavers dropped three of their first four games, including their opener against Fresno State.

Oregon State fell out of the top 25 for good following a 38-7 beatdown against UCLA, and they were never able to recover from that point forward, limping to a 5-6 record and missing out on even making a bowl game.

While they did secure a win over a top-10 Washington team late in the year, 2001 will always be seen as a season of wasted potential in Corvallis.

Erickson would jump ship to the NFL the following season, and fans were left wondering what could have been.

We all know that preseason number one teams rarely go wire-to-wire and win the whole thing, especially in the modern era.

For the 2012 USC Trojans, winning the national championship was the furthest thing from their mind, as the presumptive pick to win the crystal football had it all come crashing down the minute the calendar flipped to November

Coming off a top-10 finish in 2011, the Trojans and head coach Lane Kiffin (yes, THAT Lane Kiffin) were finally eligible for postseason play following a two-year ban in the aftermath of the end of the Pete Carroll era in Southern Cal.

That wasn't the only cause for celebration, as USC returned a litany of stars including presumptive number one overall draft pick Matt Barkley at quarterback, as well as two 1,000 yard receivers (Marquise Lee and Robert Woods), a 1,000 yard running back (Curtis McNeal) and Penn State running back transfer Silas Redd.

Even after an early season loss to eventual Pac-12 champs Stanford, the Trojans headed into late October still boasting a top-10 ranking with all their goals in front of them.

Then disaster struck, and they lost five of their last six games to finish the season unranked.

They would be the first preseason number one team to end the season outside of the top 25 since the 1964 Ole Miss Rebels.

Despite all the talent in the world, USC could not live up to the lofty expectations foisted upon them in August.

Kiffin was "tarmac'd" just one season later, and the Trojans still haven't fully recovered, finishing in the top 10 of the AP Polls just once since 2011.

2022 was a bizarre, up-and-down year for the Texas A&M Aggies, both on and off the field.

Things started about as good as they could have in College Station, as head coach Jimbo Fisher constructed what was, at the time, the greatest recruiting class in the history of college football.

The signing day haul was so legendary, it caused Alabama head coach Nick Saban to personally and publicly call out his former assistant, and their relationship has allegedly been strained by the incident to this day.

To complement their historic acquisition of talent, the Aggies were ranked sixth to start the 2022 season, but it took all of two games for that to come unraveled.

Notorious giant slayers Appalachian State strolled into Kyle Field and pulled off only the second-most shocking upset in program history, downing TAMU by a score of 17-14.

While the Aggies rebounded nicely and beat a couple of top-15 teams in Miami and Arkansas, they would go on to lose their next six games, missing out on a bowl game entirely.

A team with College Football Playoff aspirations failing to make a bowl game is shocking, though not unprecedented, but the added sting of losing all the momentum from signing the number one class just eight months earlier is what makes this one stand out from the rest.

Oddly enough, the Aggies had two wins over top-10 opponents in 2022, as well as another against number 13 Miami, meaning more than half of their wins came against top-15 opponents.

Texas A&M had the talent to warrant their preseason ranking, but for some reason, Jimbo and the boys just couldn't get it done.

Speaking of Jimbo Fisher, the former Texas A&M coach was almost on this list twice, since his final year in Tallahassee featured a team ranked in the preseason top-five that only narrowly avoided missing a bowl game in 2017.

Luckily for Jimbo, however, the Seminoles just recently outdid themselves when it comes to shocking collapses relative to preseason expectations.

The 2023 Florida State Seminoles were a freak injury to quarterback Jordan Travis away from making the College Football Playoff, and whether you believe they were robbed of the chance to play for a national title or not is up for debate.

Regardless, coming into the '24 season, the Noles were ranked in the top 10 and had one thing on their mind: revenge.

Perhaps they should have had "actually playing football" on their mind, too, because the season was even more of a disaster than anyone could have anticipated.

After starting the season with a last-second loss in Ireland to Georgia Tech, the Seminoles returned to the friendly confines of Doak Campbell Stadium and got roadgraded by an unranked Boston College team.

Another home loss to Group of 5 Memphis signaled that the season was officially on catastrophe watch, and after a nail-biting win against an overmatched Cal team, FSU watched their hopes and dreams combust in the form of six straight losses, all while failing to score more than 16 points.

Even the biggest Seminole haters couldn't have seen this coming, as head coach Mike Norvell's portal strategy finally blew up in his face to the tune of a 2-10 season.

A 5-7 campaign in 2025 didn't do much to brighten the moods of fans in the Panhandle, and now FSU is on the hook for Norvell's bloated contract with seemingly no way out.

From a 13-win season to football purgatory. Life comes at you fast.

This was supposed to be the year that Penn State finally put it all together. 2025 was going to be the year Big Game James Franklin silenced his doubters en route to a national championship.

The year prior featured a deep playoff run for the Nittany Lions (albeit, aided by a fairly weak draw) and all the pieces seemed to be in place in Happy Valley for Franklin to make his move.

Their quarterback, Drew Allar, was entering what seemed like his eighth year of eligibility, the defense looked elite from the year prior, the portal haul of wide receivers was supposed to help Allar take the next step, and both coordinators were considered some of the best in the nation.

Even after a close, overtime loss to sixth-ranked Oregon to close out the month of September, things seemed to be going as planned for Penn State.

Then, disaster struck.

The Nittany Lions were upset by a winless UCLA team, and the powers that be at Penn State had finally seen enough big game meltdowns, showing Franklin the door after another loss, this time to a listless Northwestern squad.

After starting 3-0 and being penciled into ever Playoff bracket from sea to shining sea, Penn State would lose six straight games and would end up fighting for their lives in late November just to make a bowl game, meeting fellow preseason hype casualty Clemson in the Pinstripe Bowl.

Despite all the false hope and crushing weight of expectations, Franklin has the dubious distinction of being the only coach on this list that was fired during the same season that the collapse occurred.

Most coaches survived long enough to bleed out the next season or two, but not Franklin.

Golf star records lowest round in LPGA major history with astounding performance at Evian Championship

There are good days on the golf course, and then there is what Haeran Ryu just did on Saturday.

Ryu, 25, recorded the lowest round in LPGA major history Saturday with an 11-under 60 at the Evian Championship. With the South Korean golfer’s historic round, she holds a three-stroke lead.

Ryu’s round comes just two weeks after winning her first major at the Women’s PGA Championship. On the 18th hole, Ryu left a 30-foot eagle putt a few inches short and instead settled for a birdie.

She said after the round that she had no idea what she had done until she counted up her scorecard.

"But after the putt, I counted my score with my caddie," she said. "Oh my God, it’s 11-under par today. It was so amazing. My caddie says, ‘Yep.’ I’m so happy right now."

If Ryu had made the eagle putt on the 18th hole, she would have been just the second player to shoot a 59 in LPGA history.

Her 60 broke the record for the lowest round in an LPGA major by one shot. Leona Maguire and Jeungeun Lee6 in 2021 and Hyo Joo Kim in 2014 each shot 61 at the Evian Championship, which was designated as an LPGA major in 2013.

The lowest round in a men’s major is 62, which is shared by four players — Branden Grace at Royal Birkdale in the 2017 British Open, Xander Schauffele and Rickie Fowler in the 2023 U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club and Schauffele and Shane Lowry in the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla.

Ryu hopes her historic third round can help propel her to a second major win in three weeks.

Beloved musicians among victims in deadly Bahamas plane crash; aviation authority grounds flights

A devastating double aviation crisis in the Bahamas, including a deadly North Andros plane crash and a separate aircraft fire Friday, prompted the government to suspend flight operations for a local airline and launch a federal safety probe.

Shortly after 1 p.m. Friday, a Cessna 402 aircraft with Bahamian registration departed Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau bound for San Andros Airport.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA) said the plane "encountered difficulties" and crashed into bushes prior to landing.

First responders, including the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Airport Authority and emergency medical personnel, rushed to the dense brush where the aircraft went down.

The Bahamas Musicians and Entertainers Union confirmed in a statement Saturday that 10 people died in the crash, including prominent members of the Da Pond Band and a local DJ, whose artistry the union said "touched so many lives and helped to enrich the cultural fabric of The Bahamas."

Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis said a sole survivor was pulled from the wreckage.

"Ann and I are praying for the families who are now facing unbearable grief," Davis wrote in a statement on X. "We are also praying for the survivor, whose recovery and care will remain in our thoughts."

The identities of those killed in the crash have not yet been released.

While the AAIA's preliminary reports initially indicated seven people were on board, officials are still establishing the facts of the flight manifest.

Just hours before the fatal crash in North Andros, a Flamingo Air flight en route to Mayaguana was forced to turn back to Nassau after the pilot reported a concern, according to the Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Aviation (MoET).

After the aircraft landed and passengers safely deplaned, the plane caught fire on the runway.

After the two back-to-back safety incidents, the Civil Aviation Authority Bahamas (CAAB) temporarily suspended Flamingo Air's air operator certificate, according to MoET officials.

"The suspension is a precautionary safety measure and should not be treated as an adverse compliance action against Flamingo Air," the agency wrote in a statement.

Investigators from the AAIA and inspectors from the CAAB remain at the crash site in North Andros as they work to determine what caused the Cessna 402 tragedy.

Former Savannah Bananas player named MLB All-Star, hours after hitting for cycle as a rookie

A former Savannah Banana is headed to the MLB All-Star Game, learning the news roughly 12 hours after hitting for the cycle in the majors.

Chicago White Sox rookie outfielder Tristan Peters was named to the American League All-Star team to replace Nick Kurtz, who recently landed on the injured list.

Peters recorded the White Sox's first cycle in nine years, finishing it off with a triple down the right-field line in his final at-bat.

He doubled in the third inning and hit an RBI single in the fifth before collecting two more hits in the seventh — a two-run homer to center field and an RBI triple. Peters became the seventh player in White Sox history to hit for the cycle and the first since José Abreu in 2017.

His path to the majors has been anything but conventional. Peters spent time with the Savannah Bananas five years ago after playing at Southern Illinois University. During his stint with the Bananas, he was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the seventh round of the MLB Draft.

Peters was traded three times before reaching Chicago. The Brewers dealt him to the San Francisco Giants at the 2022 trade deadline, and the Giants sent him to the Tampa Bay Rays three months later. After spending three seasons in the Rays' farm system and making his MLB debut with Tampa Bay, Peters was traded to the White Sox this past offseason.

Peters made the White Sox's opening day roster entering what many expected to be another difficult season for the South Siders after the club lost a combined 324 games from 2023 through 2025. Instead, Chicago is tied for first place in the American League Central, and Peters has been a major reason why.
