UNC settles Trump admin probes into alleged campus antisemitism, race-based admissions

The Trump administration reached a settlement with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that will close 18 active federal investigations and a separate Justice Department compliance review involving alleged antisemitism and race discrimination at the university.

The voluntary settlement agreement does not require a monetary payment, and the university does not admit to any wrongdoing or liability. The deal, which will remain effective until the end of 2028, allows UNC to maintain its eligibility for federal funding.

Under the agreement, UNC will appoint an internal "Merit & Civil Rights Administrator" and establish a "Title VI Coordinator" position in its compliance office to address complaints about antisemitism and race-based discrimination.

The university said Elizabeth Hall, associate vice chancellor for university compliance, was appointed to serve in both roles in addition to her existing duties. She will be the point of contact for the Justice Department and oversee UNC's reporting obligations.

"This announcement reinforces our commitment to the fair and equal treatment of everyone at Carolina," UNC Chancellor Lee H. Roberts said in a statement. "For at least a decade, through different presidential administrations, U.S. universities have faced heightened public scrutiny across a range of issues. We’re proud to resolve those issues at Carolina in a way that protects our mission and affirms the civil rights of everyone in our community."

The agreement also requires UNC to provide mandatory antisemitism training to students, faculty and staff.

UNC will also prohibit face masks used to conceal an individual's identity, subject to certain exceptions, as part of the deal, which said student groups "shall be subject to discipline for antisemitic discriminatory conduct."

President Donald Trump and administration officials have accused pro-Palestinian protesters of antisemitism. But protesters, including some Jewish groups, contend that opposing Israel's military offensive in Gaza is not antisemitic and that support for Palestinian rights does not indicate support for extremism.

The settlement agreement also said UNC will adopt what the Justice Department called a "color-blind admissions system," barring the university from using race or altering its admissions process to change the racial composition of its student body. However, it does not prevent UNC from considering how applicants overcame adversity at a personal level, and the university may consider aspects of family background, such as poverty, if those considerations are applied consistently.

UNC must also maintain race-blind policies governing student benefits, scholarships, financial aid and programming, according to the agreement.

The administration has argued that policies favoring certain racial groups over others violate federal anti-discrimination law.

The deal said UNC will send any antisemitism and race discrimination complaints it has received to the DOJ and the Department of Education on a quarterly basis.

As part of the agreement, the Education Department's Office for Civil Rights will close 18 active investigations into UNC, while the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division will close a separate 18-month compliance review opened in April 2025.

"Title VI requires that all students — regardless of their ancestry or race — receive equal treatment under the law at federally funded colleges and universities," Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon said in a statement.

"Higher ed policies and practices that tolerate antisemitism or favor certain racial groups over others, frustrate our color-blind justice system. The Civil Rights Division commends UNC for its cooperation in meeting its obligations under federal law without the need for litigation; we hope other institutions will take note and do the same," she added.

In 2023, the Supreme Court rejected affirmative action at colleges as it struck down race-based admissions programs at UNC and Harvard.

The administration has targeted universities across the country with probes and threats to pull federal funding in response to pro-Palestinian protests on campus, diversity initiatives and transgender policies.

The federal government has also settled with some other schools, including Columbia University, which last year agreed to pay more than $200 million to resolve federal probes, and Brown University, which agreed to provide $50 million over 10 years to Rhode Island workforce-development organizations as part of its settlement.

Harvard, which has been a primary target of the administration's threats, has not yet made a deal.

The Brewers, who shockingly swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS, have been watching this ALCS patiently to see who their opponent will be.

Tampa Bay won Game 5 on the road, which is always a pivotal tilt when the series is tied at two games apiece, and they didn’t squander their first trip back home at Tropicana Field.

With a sold-out "Trop," the Rays used their momentum to get the job done.

Richie Palacios got the Rays on the board first in the bottom of the second inning after a clutch, two-out double to make it 2-0 early.

Then, with the game at 3-1 in favor of Tampa Bay, it was their superstar, Junior Caminero, hitting what felt like the series-sealing home run that sent the Trop into rapture.

Caminero turned on an inside pitch and was willing the ball to stay fair, as it smacked off the foul pole and the celebration ensued. Caminero stopped before hitting first base, screaming in elation with the crowd and his nearby teammates in the dugout as he understood making it a 5-1 game in the bottom of the seventh inning was a back-breaker for the Guardians.

Caminero took his time rounding the bases before touching home plate, and the Rays fans in the stadium matched his energy the entire time.

Cleveland, though, wouldn’t go down without a fight. They found some juice in the ensuing frame, scoring twice to make it a 5-3 game. But as they’ve done all season, the Rays responded when they needed it.

Yandy Diaz hit his own home run, and there was no doubt about the 416-footer he sent over the left field wall to give his squad a four-run lead.

As the top of the ninth began, Bryan Baker, the Rays’ lockdown closer, took the mound to finish the job in Game 6. He got Steven Kwan and Jose Ramirez to both ground out to first base before Chase DeLauter popped out foul to punch Tampa Bay’s ticket into the Fall Classic.

This marks the first time the Rays have been to the World Series since the 2020 COVID-19-shortened season, while the Brewers are in for the first time in 44 years.

Either way, one of these franchises will be winning its first-ever World Series as neither have been able to place one in their trophy case in history.

Rogers warns Michigan voters against El-Sayed’s ‘extreme’ agenda ahead of election

Republican Michigan Senate candidate Mike Rogers took aim at Democratic opponent Abdul El-Sayed during a town hall with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Monday, warning voters that his rival's policies would hurt the state.

Rogers accused El-Sayed of having a "pattern of deception" and called him a "manufactured candidate," claiming the Democrat has misrepresented his political positions.

"He is the most extreme candidate. He has called for defunding the police. He has called for letting criminals out of prison," Rogers said.

"He has called for the Green New Deal, which for Michigan is a killer."

"That's the energy, and what we're getting off of those doors is, 'Yes, we're voting,' 'No, we're not going to be a DSA state,' 'No, we're not going to let this happen on our watch.'"

The Republican also said his campaign is seeing support from voters who traditionally back Democrats.

Rogers later took questions from voters, including a Jewish woman who said she sometimes feels afraid to show her Jewish identity in public.

Rogers said he had heard similar stories from Jewish students at the University of Michigan who said they concealed religious symbols because they were being harassed.

Rogers also pointed to housing, education and skilled trades, saying he wants to make it easier for young adults to buy homes and bring more defense industry work to the state.

Rogers closed by again targeting El-Sayed's policies, arguing Michigan "cannot afford" them.

"We certainly can't risk his ideology," he said.

El-Sayed's campaign could not immediately be reached by Fox News Digital for comment.

Top Commanders wideout Terry McLaurin had to be carted off the field in the first half with an apparent left knee injury after going down without contact.

Teammates and Niners players alike took a knee for McLaurin as he exited, leaving Washington facing a 13-3 deficit that grew to 20-3 by halftime behind a Brock Purdy touchdown pass to George Kittle and two Christian McCaffrey scoring runs.

Jayden Daniels nearly salvaged the night without his top weapon, throwing second-half touchdown passes to Stefon Diggs and Rachaad White to cut the deficit to 23-17 before the 49ers' defense held firm on Washington's final possession.

Now, Washington's offensive depth faces another test.

While Diggs found the end zone late, the veteran wideout also took several hard hits from the Niners' defense before halftime, and the Commanders have already lost star offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil to a season-ending triceps injury.

McDonald's ransacked and wrecked as stores, restaurants suffer from violence and rioting

A McDonald's in Paris was left ransacked and heavily damaged after cost-of-living protests exploded into riots and widespread looting that also targeted restaurants, cafés and grocery stores across the French capital — with the city now issuing curfews in two places, The Associated Press reported.

The McDonald's on Boulevard de Magenta near Gare de l'Est suffered smashed windows and extensive damage inside, according to Le Monde.

Computer screens were damaged — while an ice cream machine continued spilling vanilla onto a ketchup-covered floor, the outlet reported.

Intruders even attempted to cook french fries before a man and his dog drove about 20 people from the restaurant, a security guard told the publication.

Fox News Digital reached out to McDonald's for comment about the vandalism.

The American-based fast-food chain was hardly the only food business to be caught up in the destruction.

A neighborhood café was burned out, a wine shop was destroyed and supermarkets were among the businesses targeted as unrest swept Paris.

Among the hardest hit was La Barrique, a neighborhood café near Place de la République that was burned out, according to Le Monde.

The son of the café's owners told the outlet his mother was inside when the business was attacked and was later taken to a hospital with a head injury.

Grocery stores were hit hard as well.

The Franprix, Monoprix, Picard and Carrefour City locations were among the grocery retailers targeted during the unrest, according to French news agency AFP.

At a Franprix on Rue Beaurepaire near Place de la République, shelves were emptied and products were either stolen or crushed on the floor.

Looters elsewhere were seen leaving supermarkets carrying bags filled with food, juice and alcohol, Le Monde reported.

An Intermarché Express on Boulevard de Magenta was also looted. A crew from Euronews said they were assaulted by masked individuals while reporting near the supermarket.

A Nicolas wine shop on Boulevard de Magenta was also destroyed — with shattered bottles and wine covering the area outside the store, according to Le Monde.

The destruction was part of widespread violence that followed demonstrations Saturday over the rising cost of living and other grievances.

French-born restaurateur Olivia Ostrow, who now operates Maison Ostrow in South Florida, told Fox News Digital the unrest reflects tensions extending far beyond the French capital.

Ostrow, who was born in Paris and whose grandparents survived the Holocaust, expressed concern about what she described as rising antisemitism and the role of social media in fueling hostility.

She argued that some demonstrators have embraced political causes without fully understanding the history behind them.

"Those kids and most of those people couldn't point to Israel on the world map if it hit them in the face," she said.

Many on social media shared their dismay about what is happening in France.

"I have nothing but disgust for anyone trying to justify this," wrote one person. "Let me say it, the ones suffering the consequences are ordinary French people, not the government. It's ordinary citizens who will pay for this, whose cars were burned, whose businesses and homes were looted, and whose physical integrity were threatened."

Elissa Slotkin calls backlash to threat of prosecution comments 'manufactured outrage'

Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., called the backlash against her comments that the threat of prosecution could deter young people from working for the Trump administration "manufactured outrage" during television interviews Monday.

During an Oct. 13 University of Chicago event, Slotkin drew criticism after a clip went viral showing her saying she wants to pursue "signature cases" against people who "enabled" President Donald Trump and push a "deterrence message" for young people.

"I want young people coming out of school to say, ‘Should I go work for the Trump administration? Like, that sounds fun, I might get an opportunity.’ I want them to be like, ‘Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want, and so let me avoid participating in that,’" she said. "I want that deterrence message," Slotkin said.

While speaking with CNN's Jake Tapper on Monday, Slotkin responded to a comment from Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, who wrote that it was "absolutely disgraceful" to "threaten young Americans for participating in politics and serving their country" with legal retribution.

"Yeah, well, look, that’s manufactured outrage," Slotkin responded. "That’s his specialty. I think the thing that I’ve heard from my own Republican colleagues and peers, including interns and folks who work around the Hill who come to our events, they’ll tell you, 'I was worried. My parents were worried, you know. It’s really messy. I’m not sure what to get involved in.' Politics, in general, has become messy."

"But, you know, when you’re being forced by this administration, for instance, to sign a contract that is given over to a company that Trump Jr. is on the board of, and you know that that’s a problem," she added.

Slotkin then referenced her viral video from 2025, in which she and five other Democratic lawmakers urged military members to "refuse illegal orders." She claimed that in both circumstances she was only encouraging people to reject illegal activity.

"My point is, do not get yourself involved in illegal activity," she said. "It’s the same thing I was talking about a year ago. "That's a hell of a statement. Slotkin said that there should be prosecutions in order to scare people from going into politics. That's a Democrat and that's what they do. That's all they're good at — and you know what? That's why they're getting their a--es kicked," Trump said.

Slotkin reiterated that she had no intention of targeting people for prosecution solely because of their political affiliation and only cared about people "breaking the law."

"If you are violating the law, then you should be held accountable, and that includes people who are supporting that activity. That’s the point I was trying to make. You’re not breaking the law? No problem. We can have disagreements all day long, and certainly Democrats and Republicans do. I don’t care if it’s just freedom of speech. I care if you’re breaking the law," Slotkin told CNN.

During a separate interview on MS NOW, Slotkin suggested some of the backlash she received from Republican critics could be attributed to her gender.

"They're clearly trying to change the conversation given what the midterms are and the state of the economy, the state of things around the country. I do think there's something about being a woman and criticizing them and calling them out on that corruption that really gets under their skin, obviously, or they wouldn't respond."

SAN FRANCISCO – The Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries were off the court for the national anthem before Game 2 of the WNBA Finals on Monday night, repeating their Game 1 absences despite a provision in the league’s own rulebook calling for players to stand and line up during the performance.

Despite multiple requests to both teams, those questions had gone unanswered when OutKick published a follow-up Monday morning.

The WNBA’s rulebook includes an anthem provision

The WNBA’s 2026 official rulebook says players, coaches and trainers are to "stand and line up in a dignified posture" along the sidelines or on the foul line during the national anthem.

OutKick asked the league about its anthem requirements, whether any discipline was planned or under consideration over Game 1, and whether it had instructed or planned to instruct either team to be on the court for Game 2.

We also asked the league to confirm whether both teams would be present Monday.

The WNBA has not responded to multiple requests for comment.

Game 1 questions preceded another anthem absence

Before Saturday’s opener, both teams were warming up on the court before leaving just ahead of the anthem. They returned within seconds of the performance ending.

Additionally, OutKick attended all five of Saturday’s pregame and postgame press conferences and raised a hand at each, but was never called on to ask the planned anthem questions.

Vice President JD Vance declined to endorse Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's reelection bid, saying he intends to stay out of Israel's election despite President Donald Trump throwing his support behind the Israeli leader.

During an interview Monday with Mark Halperin on "2WAY Tonight," Vance said his focus remains on U.S. candidates ahead of the midterms, Politico reported.

"The president has the most effective endorsement in American or international political history," Vance said. "I endorse American candidates, and that’s where I’m focused on in the midterms. So I’m not getting involved in Israeli elections."

However, Vance made clear that his decision should not be interpreted as opposition to Netanyahu.

The comments come one day after Trump gave Netanyahu his "Complete and Total Endorsement" in a lengthy Truth Social post, praising the prime minister as a key U.S. ally and partner in confronting Iran.

"Bibi Netanyahu has been a Great Warrior Prime Minister, and an even greater Partner for Peace in combatting the Islamic Republic of Iran," Trump wrote.

Actor Richard Riehle, who starred in "Office Space" and "Casino," died over the weekend, Fox News Digital confirmed. He was 78.

Circumstances surrounding Riehle's death were not immediately disclosed.

One of Major League Baseball's owners just destroyed the league's entire argument for a lockout

The 2026 World Series starts later this week, and with it, potentially the last Major League Baseball games we'll see for quite some time.

On Dec. 1, the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the league's owners and the MLB Players Association expires. Barring some extremely unforeseen circumstances, the owners will immediately proceed to a lockout. Players will be barred from contact with team personnel, unable to use team facilities, along with many other noticeable changes designed to pretend as though the stars who sustain the sport don't exist.

Nobody knows how long negotiations to determine the next Collective Bargaining Agreement will take to resolve. Nobody knows how long the lockout will continue, or if spring training or the 2027 regular season will start on time. If the league will miss games and potentially jeopardize the sustained growth baseball has enjoyed. For example, the 2026 NLCS between the Dodgers and Brewers was the highest rated LCS from either league since 2015, despite lasting just four games.

WORLD SERIES CHAMPION SAYS POTENTIAL MLB LOCKOUT COULD 'ABSOLUTELY' CAUSE CANCELLED GAMES NEXT SEASON

Attendance has increased. National ratings have increased. And the owners are reportedly committed to blowing it all up in order to fight for a salary cap. Except one of their newest members just accidentally blew up their entire case and rationalization for it.

The salary cap fight stems from anger and outrage over the Los Angeles Dodgers' offseason spending. After winning the 2024 and 2025 World Series, the Dodgers added Kyle Tucker on a $240 million, 4-year deal. Then signed closer Edwin Diaz to a 3-year, $69 million contract. Opposing fans were furious, some suggested canceling the season because a third straight title was a foregone conclusion, and prominent writers egged them on with misleading comments.

Fast forward to late October and it's almost impossible to age worse than these predictions of baseball doom. Kyle Tucker was a below average hitter in Los Angeles, one of the worst values of any player in the sport. Edwin Diaz had an ERA near nine in the regular season, battled several injuries, and turned in one of the worst reliever seasons in baseball. The Dodgers won the division series, then got swept by the small market Brewers. The American League will send either the Cleveland Guardians, with the lowest payroll in the league, or the endlessly cheap Tampa Bay Rays to the World Series.

But that's not even the worst part for the league office. Fans are quick to dismiss these (quite common) results as "outliers." Even though the Rays are one win from their second World Series appearance in the past seven seasons, more than the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, Giants, Cubs, or Angels. Even though a Guardians appearance would be their second appearance since 2016, again, more than any of those organizations. And even though the Brewers have the best record in baseball for two straight seasons.

WILL MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL STILL LOCK PLAYERS OUT AFTER 2026 POSTSEASON PROVES OWNERS WRONG?

They might be able to (inaccurately) dismiss the results. But they can't dismiss a small market owner proudly bragging about how much money he and his team are making.

That's exactly what Baltimore Orioles owner David Rubenstein last week. Local outlet Baltimore Baseball reported that Rubenstein, speaking at the Economic Club of Washington, D.C., told a group of other sports team owners that he bought the organization in part because of how much money they were making.

"A lot of my friends were buying teams, and I realized they're making money. They're making more money than I'm making in private equity," Rubenstein explained, per Baltimore Baseball. "I thought I should look at it as a financial thing, but ultimately I bought the Orioles for a philanthropic purpose. I grew up in Baltimore, as people know. I didn't think I'd done enough for Baltimore, so I bought the team to help revive the team a bit and ultimately revive Baltimore because Baltimore had some challenges."

He did claim that "owners care more about winning than making money (but they're) not against making money." Hilarious.

Rubenstein's laudable "charity" aside, the admission that baseball teams are making more money than private equity is about as damning as it gets for the league's salary cap arguments. Baseball is a highly profitable industry, small market teams are bringing in enormous sums of money, and many owners are choosing to pocket it instead of reinvesting in their rosters. Because they're not "against making money."

One X user showed how prolific small market owners are at pocketing money. While the highest payrolls have increased substantially over the last decade, the lowest payrolls have remained nearly flat. Yet the league is making substantially more money than it was in the 2010s, and cumulative inflation since 2015 has been over 42%.

Not to mention that MLB's form of socialism, revenue sharing, means the Dodgers' success benefits teams like the Pirates, Orioles, and Marlins, to the tune of tens of millions of dollars per year...each. Some estimates put the Pirates' revenue sharing payout at anywhere from $60-100 million. Just for existing. Before any income they get from tickets, television, advertising, parking, concessions, merchandise, or non-baseball events.

It's ironic though, that the season in which the league angrily posted that too many fans have no hope of their team winning a World Series has been a complete dismantling of that argument. In every conceivable way.

One of the Brewers, Rays, or Guardians are going to win the World Series, demonstrating that fans can indeed have "hope" if their front offices are competent. The Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Giants, Angels, Cubs, Astros, Rangers and Red Sox combined to win five postseason games. And one of the league's small market owners accidentally admitted that baseball is more profitable than one of the most famously lucrative industries on planet earth.

Rubenstein is, of course, fully entitled to make as much money as he can or wants to with the Orioles. He's also already proven to be one of the better small market owners when it comes to investing money, signing Pete Alonso and Kyle Bradish this past offseason, extending Samuel Basallo, and locking up Shane Baz. But it's ludicrous to act as though there isn't an enormous amount of money coming into MLB. And that plenty of it flows to the "poorer" teams.

Will this matter to the owners' fanbase calling for players to take less money so Rubenstein can make more money? Of course not, they're happily set to continue demanding a salary cap to be more like the NFL, the sport with the worst competitive balance in the country and the most predictable outcomes. Why would they let a little thing like reality interfere with that?

Brandon Miller agrees to $209M extension with Hornets as top draft pick cashes in after controversial past

Brandon Miller, the No. 2 pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, received a lucrative contract extension from the Charlotte Hornets heading into his fourth season in the league.

Miller, coming off a career year with the Hornets, agreed to a five-year, $209 million extension, per The Associated Press.

The 23-year-old averaged 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game last year, while also dealing with a shoulder injury. The guard/forward has tallied 19 points and 4.6 rebounds per game across his three seasons.

With LaMelo Ball traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves ahead of this year, Miller should be expected to take on a larger role for Charlotte during the 2026-27 campaign.

Miller was taken after the San Antonio Spurs selected Victor Wembanyama in the 2023 Draft, but there was a time during his final season at Alabama where Miller’s draft stock was in limbo because of controversy off the court.

Miller was involved in the death of a 23-year-old woman in January 2023, where it was found he transported the murder weapon, a firearm, to former teammate Darius Miles, the legal owner of the gun. Miles then gave the gun to Michael Lynn Davis, who was found guilty of shooting and killing Jamea Harris near The Strip in Tuscaloosa.

While Miller was never accused of any wrongdoing, he drove the gun to the scene where it was taken out of the vehicle by Miles and Davis. Prosecutors presented text messages showing that Miles had asked Miller to bring the gun to the scene.

Miller testified in the capital murder trial last year, admitting he did indeed bring the gun in his Dodge Charger to the scene, but said Miles didn’t tell him why he needed it, that he was going to give it to Davis or that a shooting would occur.

Miller also testified that, when gunfire rang out shortly after, two bullets had struck his windshield. He said he was almost hit by the bullets.

Ultimately, Miller was never charged with a crime or offered any special promises or rewards in exchange for cooperating.

Miller was one of four former members of the Alabama men’s basketball program who appeared on the pretrial potential witness list in the case. Davis was someone he knew since he joined the Crimson Tide’s program, being introduced to him through Miles. Davis had hung around the basketball team, which included moments in the locker room with Miles.

Miller was with the Crimson Tide for one season during the 2022-23 campaign before being selected by the Hornets. As news came out about his connection to the shooting, Miller started to face backlash from opposing teams’ fans, with "lock him up" ringing out during a game at South Carolina. He wasn’t fazed, though, dropping 41 points, as well as the game-winner in overtime, in that game.

"We hear the chants," Miller said at the time. "I feel like we really just lean on each other to go to places like that and pull out tough wins."

With Miller cleared of any wrongdoing, his draft stock remained on a top-three path, and the Hornets selected him in hopes that his prowess on the court in college would translate to the NBA.

FIRST ON FOX: New dispatch audio from the day a driver allegedly plowed into children and spectators at a Kansas soccer field reveals the moments first responders rushed to the scene on Saturday.

In the call, dispatchers can be heard labeling the horrific incident as an "MCI" or mass-casualty incident. It happened at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita.

Cole Adrian, 6, and Nicholas Schafer, 35, were killed. Both victims were from McPherson.

Why was the driver released?

Police have not revealed if there are going to be any criminal charges forthcoming against the driver, who was initially taken into custody.

She had two of her children inside the pickup. One of her children was playing soccer on a different field at the complex.

Investigators interviewed the driver and more than 30 witnesses, including the two children who were in the pickup at the time of the crash. Police consulted with the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office before releasing her.

Emergency personnel classified the incident as a Level 3 "MCI", describing it as "a motor vehicle accident into a bunch of pedestrians."
Dispatch audio referenced a 5-year-old victim who suffered multi-system trauma after being struck by a vehicle. The child was reported to have a Glasgow Coma Scale score of 15, indicating full responsiveness at the time of assessment.
More than 30 minutes into the recording, a responder reported, "There’s another victim in the middle of the field." The audio does not establish whether the victim had just been discovered.

Python hunters snag Puerto Rico's largest reticulated python on record after it was spotted strangling pet cat

A professional python hunter who doubles as a professional alligator wrestler, according to his Instagram bio, helped catch "the longest live captured reticulated python ever caught in Puerto Rico."

Working with Proyectos Retic, a group of python hunters in Puerto Rico who collect data and specimens about the reticulated python, Snakeaholic aka Kevin Pavlidis helped snag a reticulated python that measured 18' 4" long.

This gigantic snake was held up by eight people standing shoulder-to-shoulder to show just how big of a snake they're dealing with. They tracked it down after it was "spotted strangling a pet cat behind a house."

There was no mention of whether the pet cat survived the ordeal or not. These hunters had a snake to catch. But as you can clearly see, that thing can easily take down more than a pet cat.

The reticulated python is an invasive species in Puerto Rico, much like the Burmese pythons are, in Snakeaholic's home state of Florida.

"It took all my tracking skills and 20 minutes of searching to find this snake down in the jungle," Snakeaholic wrote about tracking down the snake after it was chased down a mountain away from the cat it was strangling.

"Removing this invasive apex predator is one more step towards restoring the delicate balance of the ecosystem out here in Puerto Rico and I am proud to be a part of this incredible conservation work!"

Running around snatching pythons out of the jungle isn't my idea of fun, but someone has to do it. A giant species of snake like this can take over an ecosystem, as Snakeaholic points out.

Lung cancer can grow silently for years, here’s who qualifies for screening

Cancer can strike at any age, often without symptoms. For many cancers, routine screening remains the best way to detect the disease early and reduce the risk of death.

For lung cancer, screening guidelines can vary, as the disease doesn’t always show obvious signals and can occur in both smokers and never-smokers.

Daniel J. Boffa, M.D., chair of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and a thoracic surgeon at Yale University, noted that lung cancer screening is "one of the most powerful ways" to boost survival.

"It reduces the chance of people dying of lung cancer by 20%," he told Fox News Digital.

The share of Americans who are eligible for screening but don’t comply translates to "tens of thousands of preventable deaths every year," according to Boffa.

"I'm hoping that within four or five years, a screening CT scan will only be confirmatory after they have a positive blood test done at your doctor's office," he added.

That approach could make screening easier and potentially help detect more lung cancers, according to the doctor.

Potential symptoms

In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Lary Robinson, M.D., an oncologist at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, noted that in most cases, early-stage lung cancer will not come with any symptoms.

In those who do have symptoms, however, the most common are related to the lungs, including a persistent cough, shortness of breath or coughing up blood.

Unexplained weight loss can result from any form of cancer, according to the oncologist. Neurological symptoms, like persistent headaches, may also warrant seeing a doctor.

Current guidelines

Current lung cancer screening guidelines recommend an annual low-dose CT scan for people between the ages of 50 and 80 who currently smoke or have a history of smoking or have at least a 20 pack-year history of smoking, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS).

Before making the decision to get screened, individuals should speak with their healthcare providers about the purpose of the screening and how it’s done, as well as the benefits, limits and possible harms, ACS advised.

Those who still smoke should be counseled about quitting and offered interventions and resources to help.

Individuals with serious health problems that will "likely limit" their lifespan should not be screened, according to ACS, as well as those who won’t be able to get treatment if lung cancer is detected.

Although one out of seven lung cancers will affect someone who has never smoked, there is currently not a set screening guideline for never-smokers.

Finding individuals who would benefit from screening is an "intense area of research," according to Boffa. For now, people with a direct family history of lung cancer without smoking should consider annual screenings, as should higher-risk demographics like Asian women.

"I would anticipate that in the next year or two, we will have better guidance for people who are at risk for lung cancer, but never smoked," Boffa predicted.

What to expect

Boffa noted that advances in lung cancer treatment have improved survival, even at advanced stages, so screening should not be viewed as a pathway to a terminal diagnosis.

"People are really reluctant to be diagnosed with lung cancer because it does carry a stigma," Boffa said. "For years, there was a reputation that it was a terminal diagnosis. It's just been amazing what research has done for lung cancer."

Most screenings detect a lung nodule or other abnormality, which is more often an infection, scar or inflammation than a tumor, he said.

In about one-third of patients, lung cancer screenings also detect unrelated health issues, including the hardening of heart arteries or a nodule in another part of the body.

"The reality is over 99% of nodules are actually benign," Boffa said. "And so, you need to have a conversation about what you are going to do with that information."

"I think having that conversation ahead of time is really important so that expectations are set – it's not uncommon to find something. Most of the time, it's not something that's going to affect how long you live."

The doctor noted that the CT scan only takes a couple of minutes to perform and does not take place in an enclosed space like an MRI.

"People who get claustrophobic usually don't have a hard time with lung cancer screening," Boffa said. "And it usually takes a few days to get a report back."

For those who are over 50 with a history of smoking, Boffa reiterated that getting screened is "one of the most powerful things you can do to reduce your chances of having your life shortened by lung cancer."

Calgary Opera removes singer waving Palestinian flag during opening night curtain call

The Calgary Opera removed a cast member from its remaining performances of "Tosca" after he displayed a Palestinian flag during the opera's opening-night curtain call Friday.

Bass-baritone singer Gabriel Sanchez-Ortega pulled out the flag during the curtain call following the opening-night performance. The opera company later released a statement calling Sanchez-Ortega's actions "unexpected and unauthorized," confirming that he would be replaced for the remaining performances.

"Individual political protest contravenes not only company policy, but also our responsibility to create a more connected, caring, and civil society through shared artistic experience," the statement read, according to OperaWire. "We recognize that this moment may have affected the audience — as well as cast members, crew, orchestral musicians, and Jubilee staff — in different ways, and we regret any discomfort and distress it caused."

Sanchez-Ortega, who posted a video of himself holding the flag on Instagram, released a statement saying he has "no regret" over his actions and claimed that Calgary Opera was faced with "financial threats" over the move.

"I have been informed that I have been removed from further performances of ‘Tosca’ with the Calgary Opera following my display of the Palestinian flag during curtain call. I have no regret," he said.

"This is the state of cultural institutions in Canada," Sanchez-Ortega wrote on social media. "I was informed that financial threats had been made against Calgary Opera. I hold no resentment. After the theatre, (political or otherwise) we all have to go home, and look at ourselves in the mirror. It was my honor to play the role of Angelotti, an escaped political prisoner."

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Calgary Opera declined to comment on "personnel matters" but added that all forms of personal protest, regardless of the political symbol, are prohibited on stage.

We have reiterated this prohibition to all artists and staff, and will continue to apply it universally in response to all cases of unauthorized protest, regardless of the symbol or action that protest takes."

The NFL announced on Monday that they have suspended Buffalo Bills safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson for one game, without pay, after he spit at Las Vegas Raiders' Brock Bowers on Sunday. Officials ejected Gardner-Johnson for spitting at the Raiders tight end late in the second quarter.

Whether he is suiting up for the Saints, Eagles, Lions, or Bills, Gardner-Johnson's conduct remains exactly the same. He will now miss Buffalo's upcoming game against the Baltimore Ravens simply because he could not act like an adult on the field.

Amanda Seyfried landed in the hot seat after her appearance in the latest Elizabeth Holmes documentary unleashed a wave of criticism online.

Seyfried surprised viewers when she appeared alongside Nathan Fielder in "You Can See Everything," a documentary that followed Holmes in the last 34 days leading up to the start of her prison sentence. Holmes reported to Federal Prison Camp Bryan on May 30, 2023.

Seyfried revisited her connection to the disgraced Theranos founder, whom she portrayed in Hulu's "The Dropout." The new documentary, released Oct. 16, explored Seyfried's evolving perspective on Holmes, including her reactions to Holmes' personal life and relationship with Billy Evans. Stepping back into Holmes' shoes for the documentary, Seyfried helped Fielder recreate conversations he had with the disgraced Theranos founder after she reported to prison.

Throughout the film, Seyfried grappled with her growing sympathy for Holmes, even as the convicted fraudster challenged the way the actress portrayed her in the Hulu series.

"Amanda Seyfried defending Holmes as a victim of male manipulation until Holmes accused her of participating in a sensationalized version of the Theranos scandal and then flipping out about how it is just TV was a [sic] truly gross," one X user wrote. "I hope she gets redragged for it."

Other viewers piled on, accusing Seyfried of changing her tune when the scrutiny shifted toward her own role in bringing the Theranos scandal to television.

"Lots of 'women protecting women' posturing from her until she gets accused of perhaps also causing Elizabeth some degree of pain, after which she immediately deflects and starts engaging in female emotional manipulation by accusing Nathan of covering up for Elizabeth based on her 'intuition,'" another user said.

Another viewer echoed the criticism, arguing that Seyfried's behavior only reinforced their negative impression of the actress.

"This is maybe the number one reason why I loved 'You Can See Everything.' Seeing Amanda Seyfried for her true colors in full hypocrisy was such a cathartic feeling," one user said. "It reminds me why we should never take people like her seriously."

Not everyone agreed with the harsh criticism. Some viewers came to Seyfried's defense, arguing that her changing opinion of Holmes wasn't a sign of hypocrisy but rather an essential part of the documentary's larger message.

"imagine walking away from this blaming amanda seyfried," a user wrote. "the point is, amanda herself changes her opinion on elizabeth holmes. so does nathan fielder. so does the audience. thats the literal point."

Fox News Digital reached out to Seyfried's representative for comment.

Holmes was convicted in January 2022 on four federal fraud charges for misleading investors about her blood-testing company's technology and capabilities. A jury found her guilty of one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and three counts of wire fraud, all related to defrauding investors.

She was sentenced in November 2022 to 11 years and three months in federal prison.

Veteran CNN anchor Christiane Amanpour announces exit from network, will go off the air next June

Veteran CNN International anchor Christiane Amanpour announced Monday she's leaving the network next summer after more than four decades at the network.

"After more than 43 years at CNN, Christiane has decided that the time is right to begin a new chapter," CNN CEO Mark Thompson told staffers in a memo. "Early in 2027, she will scale back her CNN International show, ‘Amanpour,’ to once a week. The program will conclude in May, and she will leave CNN at the end of June."

"Christiane has thought carefully about this decision, and she and I have been discussing it for some months. Like so many CNNers who will hear the news today, I’m very sorry to see her go, but I’ve come to accept that this is the right time for her, both personally and professionally," Thompson wrote.

Amanpour thanked her viewers and alluded to the "pressures" she and her CNN colleagues face during an on-air address.

"That's especially important today as we face unprecedented pressures from all sides, political, financial and also from the rising dangers in the field. I'll always be rooting for CNN maintaining its history of independent journalism."

The announcement came as a shock to CNN staffers. One called her CNN's "reigning titan." Another described themselves as a "Christiane loyalist" and called her "the heart and soul of this company," but admitted her stature in journalism can continue without CNN.

"She has the power to chart her own course. Yes, she is synonymous with a brand, but she is also a bigger than the brand," the CNN staffer told Fox News Digital.

While the 68-year-old journalist is revered among her CNN colleagues and members of the liberal media, she has her critics as well. As she referenced in her statement, Amanpour rejects the notion of neutrality when it comes to reporting, insisting the truth should remain the north star.

"Both-siderism — on the one hand, on the other hand — is not always objectivity. It does not get you to the truth," Amanpour told graduates at the Columbia Journalism School in 2023. "Drawing false, moral or factual equivalence is neither objective or truthful. Objectivity is our golden rule. And it is in weighing all the sides and all the evidence hearing everyone reporting everything, but not rushing to equate them when there is no equating and look at the damage that that has done in the climate debate, in the political arena and in the field of battle."

Her coverage of the Israel-Hamas war and her past commentary have also raised eyebrows. Amanpour claimed in October 2023, just weeks after the terrorist attack on Israel, "the rest of the world" agreed with Jordanian Queen Rania Al Abdullah's complaint that the Western world shows more support for Israel than the Palestinians. She also reported that third-party negotiators were trying to implement a "hostage release on both sides," implying Israel, too, is keeping civilian hostages and not just the Hamas terrorists. Earlier in the year, she was forced to apologize after she claimed the murder of an Israeli rabbi's family was the result of a "shootout."

In November 2020, she was condemned by the Israeli government and the Anti-Defamation League for comparing the Trump presidency to Kristallnacht, known as the "Night of Broken Glass" when Nazis terrorized Jews throughout Germany and Austria, resulting in at least 91 deaths and 7,500 Jewish businesses vandalized during the Holocaust. Amanpour walked back her comments following the intense backlash.

Amanpour's forthcoming exit from CNN marks the first major journalist set to leave the network under its new corporate ownership. Skydance CEO and Paramount owner David Ellison recently closed on his $111 billion purchase of Warner Bros. Discovery, merging two legacy Hollywood studios as well as several television networks including CNN and CBS under Skydance.

While there's been no indication her decision was tied to Ellison's takeover of the network, Amanpour isn't shy to publicly challenge her bosses, most notably Thompson's predecessor Chris Licht, for airing the now-infamous Trump town hall in 2023. Earlier this year, Amanpour expressed concern about Ellison owning CNN over how he's handled CBS News since he bought Paramount and installed Bari Weiss as its editor-in-chief.

"I’m concerned based on what’s happened to the other things that he’s taken over already, like CBS News, right?" Amanpour said in May. "I mean, do I have to list what’s happening there? I mean, hemorrhaging viewers, probably hemorrhaging money, this ideological realignment of CBS and the destruction, potentially, of ‘60 Minutes.’"

Kansas man mapped rooftops near Trump speech site, threatened to shoot president: DOJ

A Kansas man allegedly vowed to shoot President Donald Trump and claimed he had already mapped rooftops near his upcoming speech, triggering a federal investigation that landed him in custody before the visit.

Jaden J. Read, 24, of Clearwater, was charged Saturday with making threats against the president, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas. Authorities arrested him that same day, two days before Trump’s scheduled Monday visit to Wichita.

The investigation began Oct. 15, when a Crime Stoppers tip alerted authorities to comments beneath a KAKE News Facebook article about the president’s trip, prosecutors said.

A minute later, prosecutors said, he claimed to know where Trump would speak and to have studied nearby rooftops.

Officials have disclosed the causes of death for three festivalgoers at this year's Burning Man event in Nevada, weeks after the annual gathering was rocked by multiple fatalities.

The causes of death ranged from cardiovascular disease to drug toxicity, according to local outlet KOLO 8 News, citing information from the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office.

Burning Man, held annually in Nevada's Black Rock Desert, ran from Aug. 30 through Sept. 7 this year, with all three deaths occurring during the festival.

One man, 62, of Santa Monica, California, was pronounced dead at the festival's Rampart Medical Center on Sept. 3 after suddenly collapsing, KOLO 8 reported.

His cause of death was determined to be hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Another man, 51, of Truckee, California, died in an ambulance on Sept. 4 after experiencing chest pain at the festival.

His death was linked to methamphetamine and MDMA toxicity, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes, with chronic methamphetamine use also contributing, the same outlet said.

A third man, age 60, of Yuma, Arizona, was found dead in his vehicle.

He was later determined to have died from cocaine and methamphetamine toxicity, with cardiovascular disease contributing, according to KOLO 8.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office for additional information.

The festival draws tens of thousands of participants who gather to build a temporary city known as Black Rock City.

The festival emphasizes communal effort, self-reliance and self-expression, according to the organization.

The event culminates in the burning of a massive wooden effigy known as "the Man."

In a statement earlier in September, Burning Man organizers expressed condolences to the families of those who died and said the three deaths initially appeared to be from natural causes.

The picture of the New Orleans Saints arriving in France on Monday and rolling through the streets of Paris amid looting and fires is not an accurate portrayal of what happened. There was none of that drama on the teams' first day in the country.

The Saints arrived at Charles de Gaulle Airport and are staying on the verdant outskirts of Versailles, about 12–15 miles and 40 minutes from central Paris.

But the events that have caused turmoil in Paris and other towns around the country are indeed on the minds of coaches, players, and staff as they prepare to play the NFL's first game in France on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Saints got a chance to walk around the vicinity of Stade de France in Saint-Denis upon arriving, according to coach Kellen Moore. They're scheduled to go back on Saturday for a walk-through inside the facility.

Moore said there are no planned team-bonding events to tour Paris or any other area. But neither have players been told to abstain from having dinner together or taking in some local fare.

All of that comes with an understanding: Stay alert and safe.

"Us as outsiders," tight end Juwan Johnson told NOLA.com, "we just want to be as safe as possible."

Johnson said that even though his wife is on the trip, as are the families of many players and staff, she is still "very undecided" about attending Sunday's game.

Safety Justin Reid said he plans to take in a soccer game on his day off Tuesday between Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona at the Parc des Princes in the southwest section of Paris. Other players also showed interest in attending.

But, again, it all comes with the requirement that everyone keeps their head on the proverbial swivel.

"It’ll just be, 'keep it low-key, keep it fun,' do things as a group, do things as a team," Reid said. "And above all else, stay out of the mix and don’t find any way to be a distraction to what our ultimate goal here is ...

"We want to enjoy being in Paris and seeing things, but I don’t think many of us are very interested in getting into the mix that deeply."

Moore seems confident that will be the case.

"Our guys are smart," the coach told reporters on a Monday Zoom call. "They understand, you know, this is a still a business trip ..."

The Saints as an organization have shown no compunction about being on this trip. When the NFL released a statement about moving ahead with the game as scheduled, the Saints concurred.

But, the statement from Saints senior vice president of communications Greg Bensel also makes the point that the team has stayed in the loop about security.

"We concur with the NFL's statement and are planning to play the game," Bensel said in a statement provided to OutKick and Fox News Digital. "In addition to working closely with the NFL, we have also maintained daily security updates with our security partners in France.

"Members of our football operations staff and internal security team have been on the ground in France for the past few days and there has been no disruption or impact at any of our team sites."

Matthew McConaughey's call to rethink America's two-party political system has sparked a heated debate on social media, with some critics accusing the Oscar-winning actor of promoting a "privileged perspective" ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

On Sunday, McConaughey took to social media and challenged the long-held notion that voting for an independent candidate is a wasted vote, arguing that just a handful of independent lawmakers could dramatically shift the balance of power in Washington.

"They've been telling us for years that an independent vote is a wasted vote," McConaughey said in a video shared on Instagram. "Well, a great question for our times is, has that unwasted vote been working out for you?"

Another accused the Hollywood star of being out of touch with the challenges facing everyday Americans.

"I understand that you're in a tax bracket where government decisions don't affect you like it does majority of constituents, but this isn't the time my guy," the user wrote. "Our government is doing their damnest to silence the lower and middle classes. These are incredibly dangerous times and we've got to get this administration OUT."

A third critic slammed McConaughey's message as "ridiculous," arguing that his celebrity status and financial security bar him from facing the consequences of political decisions.

"This is a ridiculous, privileged perspective from someone with nothing to lose either way," the commenter wrote.

"Both sides absolutely have faults but one is dragging us deeper into cruel chaos, a broken economy, abducting our neighbors off the street, enforcing violence on its own citizens, stripping women of rights, trying actively to take away this vote you're encouraging people to utilize," the user continued.

"If you're gonna hop on instagram with your quick hot take this close to a crucial election period, at least say something substantive and try to stand on the correct side."

Despite the backlash, others rushed to McConaughey's defense, praising the actor for challenging political divisions and encouraging Americans to consider alternatives to the two major parties.

"The comments tell the whole story and prove his point to a T," one supporter wrote. "Politicization has warped our minds away from common sense and consistent, integrity based, civic duty or political participation."

Another simply declared, "McConaughey for prez."

"The problem is that you make too much sense," a third supporter commented. "The majority of people commenting are the ones that wouldn't stand with us in the middle anyway."

In his video, McConaughey argued that independent voters deserve a greater voice in Washington, pointing to the growing number of Americans who identify as politically independent.

"The number one political identity in America today is not Republican. It is not Democrat. It is independent," he said. "More of us than either party. So independents belong in the fight. Not as a protest, not as a spoiler, but as a real and potential winner on the ballot and considered seriously by us."

The "Dallas Buyers Club" star went on to argue that electing even a small number of lawmakers who refuse to align themselves with either major party could force Republicans and Democrats to negotiate more frequently.

"Here's the math that the parties pray you never do," he said, arguing that three to five independent lawmakers could become decisive votes in a closely divided Congress.

"Nothing passes without them," he said. "Every bill has to come through the middle, which means both parties would finally have to compete for the middle. Most of us."

However, the actor emphasized that his message was not an endorsement of the organization or any political candidate.

"I am not here today to endorse a candidate or a party," he said. "I am here endorsing two things. Fairness and reality."

As the midterm elections approach, McConaughey encouraged Americans to research the candidates on their ballots and consider whether independent contenders reflect their values.

Rams lose Davante Adams for 6-10 weeks after receiver ruptures his hamstring, adding to team's injury woes

If 2-4 wasn’t a bad enough start for the Los Angeles Rams, they are about to be without one of their top players for a while.

Wide receiver Davante Adams will be out 6–10 weeks after rupturing his hamstring, head coach Sean McVay revealed following the shocking 18-16 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at SoFi Stadium.

It was on the final drive for the Rams that it appeared Adams suffered the injury. The Rams were near the goal line where Adams pulled up during his route and hopped out the back of the end zone.

He eventually limped off the field, and it wasn’t at all what the Rams wanted to see with their 33-year-old receiver, whom Matthew Stafford loves in the red zone since he joined them this past season.

While Adams was able to get off the field on his own power, further testing after the game showed just how serious of an injury it is for the veteran.

It’s also quite serious for a Rams team to lose their leading receiver who plays such a vital role on offense, especially when Puka Nacua didn’t start the season on time due to his own injury.

Through six games, Adams had 480 yards through the air and four touchdowns.

Hamstring injuries for receivers can be tricky, as we look ahead to when Adams could potentially return. The timetable McVay gave proves just how delicate they can be, with the earliest return date sometime in December. If it goes a full 10 weeks, Adams would only be available for the remaining two regular-season games.

It’s safe to say Adams will be placed on the injured reserve, and he isn’t the only Rams player heading there after Sunday’s loss.

Kicker Blake Grupe, whom the Rams added leading up to Week 6 following the struggles of Harrison Mevis, is out for the season with a knee injury after he attempted a tackle early in Sunday’s game. Defensive tackle Poona Ford is also out for the year with a tricep injury, while fellow tackle Kobie Turner is heading to the IR with a groin injury.

Before the season began, there were talks of a "super team" developing in Los Angeles due to the Myles Garrett trade among other additions, while Stafford was coming off an MVP season at quarterback.

Now, with Garrett still dealing with a knee ailment in his own right, the Rams have been banged up with key players not just being down for a week or two, but prolonged recoveries.

This isn’t at all what McVay and the Rams expected when the season began, but they’ll be forced to weather the storm in hopes they can get back to consistent winning.

In the meantime, at receiver, the Rams will have to lean on Nacua, while players like Jordan Whittington and Konata Mumpfield may see increased roles with Adams out.
