‘Still waiting on the DOGE check’: Battleground state voters cast doubt on Trump’s new $5K promise

Voters squeezed by rising costs are skeptical of President Donald Trump’s proposed $5,000 dividend — with at least one resident pointing to a previous DOGE dividend proposal that never materialized.

"I feel like that's a pitch to get more votes," Yolanda Lewis told Fox News Digital. "I'm still waiting on the DOGE check that he promised that we never received, so until he gives us a definite date saying when we're gonna get that and receive it, then I'll take that into consideration."

Trump suggested in February 2025 that a portion of savings generated by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) could be returned to taxpayers, while Elon Musk entertained a proposal that envisioned payments of as much as $5,000. Trump later backed the idea of returning 20% of DOGE savings to Americans. DOGE reported $110.3 billion in savings from contracts, grants and leases, though a Government Accountability Office review later found that some of its estimates were inaccurate or lacked sufficient supporting evidence.

Now, with affordability a top-of-mind issue for voters across the country, Trump has unveiled a new "Trump dividend" plan at the Midterm GOP Convention last Wednesday that would give $5,000 to American adults if Republicans maintain control of Congress.

Several Detroit voters, interviewed by Fox News Digital at the Detroit Health Department’s annual Block Party on Sept. 12, rejected the proposal, with some calling it a "bribe" and others questioning whether the money would ever be paid out.

"I think it's kind of irresponsible because what is the long-term impact of this money?" Jahdante Smith, the Green Party candidate for the state House of Representatives 9th district, told Fox News Digital.

Smith, who supports Medicare for All, pointed to the nation's roughly $40 trillion debt in questioning how the proposal would be funded.

"So where does that money come from? Where do you divert those funds from? Also, I think that it is sort of a bribe," Smith said.

Michigan, which Trump won by 1.4% in 2024, has become a key battleground in the fight for Senate control as Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Saye and Republican Mike Rogers are both vying for Michigan's open Senate seat.

El-Sayed called Trump's $5,000 proposal "unserious" during a rally in Lansing, Michigan.

"Funny thing about it is like there's no world in which you can pay for it," El-Sayed said. "So how about you actually do some governing and like solve the Social Security problem. How about we guarantee people health care so they don't have to pay so much for that."

Rogers' campaign did not directly comment on the former congressman's stance on Trump's $5,000 dividend plan. Instead, it pointed to El-Sayed's support for implementing a progressive tax plan.

"You know what’s not serious? Challenging Mike to a 1:1 football scrimmage, taking money from Designated Terrorist Organizations and advocating to raise taxes for Michiganders while they’re already paying for Democrats’ mismanagement," said Alyssa Brouillet, communications director for the Rogers campaign. "Funny enough, those are things Abdul does."

Prices are an acute concern in Detroit, where roughly a third of residents live below the federal poverty line. The city's median household income is below $40,000, according to U.S. census data.

"Well, as a city Detroit retiree, affordability is very important, and I think the prices since Trump's been back in office have gone up on everything, especially gas, diesel, you know, affordabilities went out the window," William Davis told Fox News Digital.

The current cost of gas in Detroit is $4.11 per gallon. Before the Iran war, gas prices hovered between $2.81 and $2.92 per gallon in January.

Martesha Adams, a young mother and nurse living in Detroit, told Fox News Digital at the Detroit Health Department Block Party that she also viewed the $5,000 proposal as an attempt to win over struggling Americans.

"The whole time I feel that he's been in the office, it's been a kind of game," Adams said. "America has been laughed at from everywhere. And the $5K for bribery, that's nothing. So I hope that people do not go for that bribe, and they really look into the politics."

For Shelby Campbell, a 2023 graduate of Wayne State University, affordability has already forced significant changes. She said she sold her car because she could no longer afford Michigan's no-fault auto insurance and has struggled to find an affordable rental in Detroit.

Campbell called Trump's $5,000 proposal "disgusting."

"He shouldn't be able to offer people money if we have one party in office," Campbell said. "It's supposed to be about everybody and what we all want and need, so it's just bribery in my opinion."

Campbell, who said she plans to vote for El-Sayed in the general election, argued that money already plays too large a role in politics.

"I think he's genuinely a good guy, and he wants to get money out of politics, and I am all for that," Campbell said. "We seriously need that because big corporations buy our elections just like Donald Trump is trying to do."

Other Detroit residents echoed Lewis' skepticism about whether Trump would actually deliver the proposed payments.

Trump also proposed a separate $2,000 dividend last year funded by tariff revenue, though those payments never materialized.

"I don't think it's realistic to think he's going to do that," Davis said of Trump's latest proposal.

Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for comment.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said Sunday on "Meet the Press" that the $5,000 payments would require congressional approval, while pledging to work toward Trump's proposal.

"I never go out and give big commitments on the front end because I’ve got to work through it, and that’s what we do every single day," Johnson said.

While Trump's proposal has garnered mixed reactions within the Republican Party, Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, posted on X that he'd work to prepare a bill and get it passed before the election.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., rejected the idea that Trump was seeking to "bribe" voters.

"The only thing that I knew of was that he has this concept of a dividend of all Americans being able to share in the success of America," Emmer told Politico.

"Let the policy guys draft it. Let them debate it. Let them move it through committee," Emmer told Politico. "You get it to the whip’s office. We’ll pass it."

"I honestly can say I think about her every day, and think about the loss and what Savannah and her family are going through," Janney said. "I don’t think I’m alone. I think all of America is thinking about her."

Guthrie later thanked Janney during an emotional conversation on the "Today" show.

Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of Savannah, was taken from her home in Tucson's upscale Catalina Foothills neighborhood in the early hours of Feb. 1, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI.

She was last seen there just before 10 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, when a relative dropped her off.

The home's doorbell camera recorded a masked intruder disconnecting the cameras at approximately 1:47 a.m. Feb. 1.

At 2:28 a.m., her pacemaker lost its Bluetooth connection to her cellphone, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department released a series of ransom notes in July, six months after Nancy's suspected abduction.

Shortly after the release, Savannah made a desperate plea for the public's help in a social media post, exactly six months since her mother was reported missing.

"This is our beautiful Mom. Six months ago, someone took her out of her bed in the dead of night. We have lived every moment, every breath, and every heartbeat in agony and despair ever since," Savannah wrote to open her Instagram message.

Nick Reiner won't face death penalty in Rob, Michele Reiner murder case

All eyes will be on Nick Reiner on Tuesday when he returns to court for the latest proceedings in his criminal case.

Reiner is accused of killing his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced Tuesday that his office will not pursue the death penalty against Reiner during a press conference ahead of his court hearing.

"In deciding whether or not the DA's office was going to seek the death penalty, we have gone through a rigorous review where we look at the aggravating factors, as well as the mitigating factors – where we have spoken to the victims' family, we have spoken to prosecutors, law enforcement, and I've worked with the most senior people in the district attorney's office," Hochman told reporters Tuesday. "After a careful and thorough review of all these factors, the District Attorney's office will not be seeking the death penalty in this case. That means that the maximum sentence that Mr. Reiner will be looking at is life without the possibility of parole."

Reiner was charged with two counts of murder and included special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and lying in wait after a grand jury indictment. Prosecutors also alleged he used a knife.

"This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing," Los Angeles County District Attorney Hochman said at the time.

Prosecutors allege Reiner fatally stabbed his father, 78, and mother, 70, on Dec. 14, 2025, at their Brentwood home.

As his criminal case moves forward, Reiner has demanded access to funds from a trust worth as much as $1.5 million after he was allegedly denied access to money he says he is entitled to use, including to hire high-profile defense attorney Alan Jackson.

Months after Reiner was put behind bars in connection to the murder of his parents, he filed a petition arguing that the person appointed to oversee his $1.5 million trust has unlawfully withheld funds that are already legally his. Reiner insisted he needed the trust money to pay for criminal defense counsel and basic necessities while incarcerated.

Jackson, who previously represented Karen Read, began working on the case immediately after Reiner's arrest, but the representation endeed when anticipated family funding failed to materialize. In a declaration, Jackson said his firm remained willing to return if funding became available, including through alternative fee arrangements.

Los Angeles Fire Department officials responded to a Brentwood-area home at around 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 14, where two bodies were discovered. Officials later confirmed the bodies to be of Rob and his wife, Michele.

"Both victims were found in the master bedroom of the area of the home," LAPD Assistant Police Chief Dominic Choi later confirmed during an LAPD Board of Police Commissioners meeting. Officers then conducted a "thorough search" of the residence and found no additional victims or suspects.

Trump blasts Supreme Court 'disaster' after justices rule against him on mail-in voting

President Donald Trump lashed out at the Supreme Court on Tuesday after justices ruled against his administration on a major mail-in voting initiative.

"Republicans just got another bad decision from the United States Supreme Court, one that the Court System took forever to give, and then blamed it, in part, on no time left to implement a solution to our totally CORRUPT and out of control Mail-In voting 'disaster,' which is a laughing stock all over the World, and where we are the only country that has to endure such a Nation Destroying SCAM," Trump wrote.

The president went on to praise Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas, who dissented from Monday's order. Trump called the pair "legends."

Trump went on to list a series of cases where the Supreme Court has disappointed him, including its decision to strike down his tariff policies and void his executive order ending birthright citizenship.

The Monday order rejected the Trump administration's request for a stay in the implementation of a universal injunction against new mail-in ballot rules from the U.S. Postal Service.

The rules would require federal ballot mail to be sent in envelopes bearing an election-mail logo, capable of being scanned by high-speed equipment and carrying a barcode unique to each voter.

State and local election officials would also be required to submit envelope designs to the Postal Service for review and upload basic voter information to an online USPS portal.

USPS WOULDN'T DELIVER BALLOTS IN STATES THAT REFUSE TO FORK OVER MAIL-IN VOTER INFO UNDER PROPOSED RULE

Under the USPS rule, mailings that failed to comply would not be accepted and would instead be returned to election officials to correct and resubmit.

The court's Monday order went unsigned, but Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote a concurring opinion that allowed room for a potential Trump victory down the line. He nevertheless argued that it is too close to Election Day to realistically implement the rules for the 2026 midterm elections.

"In my view, based on the briefing the Court has received at this interim stage, there is at least a fair prospect that the final rule falls within the Postal Service’s statutory authority," Kavanaugh wrote. "But applying the rule in the 2026 elections would be arbitrary and capricious in violation of the Administrative Procedure Act because state and local election officials do not have sufficient time to reasonably implement the rule before the elections."

PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp reiterates it is not considering a returning member program for LIV golfers

The PGA Tour officially shared the details of what the new-look, two-tiered competitive model debuting in 2028 will entail on Tuesday, and CEO Brian Rolapp also made it clear that, as things stand now, LIV golfers will not be a part of it.

The word "pathways" will be discussed ad nauseam leading into the 2028 PGA Tour season, with players looking to earn a spot on the upper-tiered Championship Series. It, however, will not be a term used for players on the once-backed Saudi breakaway circuit, as it was in January, when Brooks Koepka took advantage of the Returning Member Program window.

Rolapp addressed the topic of LIV Golf and players looking to return to the Tour at the top of his press conference on Tuesday before being asked a question about the proposition.

"Before we get to your questions on this announcement, I will briefly address LIV because I know it has been in the news recently, and I expect it may come up today," Rolapp began. "As I said a few weeks ago in Atlanta, there are really three things when it comes to anyone who wants to compete on the PGA TOUR.

"One, the PGA TOUR is built on meritocracy. Every player, whether they are a member or want to become one, must earn their place. Two, we are a membership organization; we have rules, and those rules exist for lots of reasons, including fairness and competitive balance. Rules matter, and they must be enforced.

"Which brings me to number three, accountability and discipline. These are essential elements for any sports league and are certainly for the integrity of the PGA TOUR and the sport. It's what holds the TOUR together. Those are guiding principles for us. In terms of where we are today, we are not currently contemplating a returning-member program like the one you saw in January."

The Returning Member Program offered in January was made accessible to previous Tour members who have won The Players or a major championship between 2022 and 2025. Koepka was the lone player to take advantage of the opportunity and met the criteria having won the 2023 PGA Championship.

In April, Rolapp specifically stated that "Koepka’s path won’t be treated as a precedent if and when others seek to do the same."

The only other LIV players who met the Returning Member Program requirements were Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Smith, and Jon Rahm.

While it is quite clear that a direct path from LIV to the PGA Tour does not exist, there could be a hidden door, if you will.

In the Tour's detailed announcement about requirements and eligibility for players in 2028, it included a note about the DP World Tour.

"Access available to top performers from the DP World Tour is being considered as part of the ongoing discussions regarding the future of the Strategic Alliance," the Tour's statement read.

Current LIV golfers who opt to compete on the DP World Tour, which could require fines and certain requirements, may potentially (emphasis on potentially) seek a path back onto the PGA Tour by going that route.

The biggest uncertainty of it all is the actual status of LIV Golf itself after the circuit's recent bankruptcy filing, leaving its status a giant question mark.

Taraneh and Romina Rahimi were 19, still in high school and living with their mother when masked men came for them in the middle of the night.

According to their U.S.-based cousin, the twin sisters were dragged from their beds with bags placed over their heads about a month after they joined anti-regime protests in Isfahan. Their family was given no explanation and spent months searching courts, hospitals and government offices trying to determine where they had been taken.

Four months later, their mother, Marzieh Nourmohammadi, was finally allowed to see them at Dowlatabad Prison. She barely recognized her daughters.

ONE GLARING ISSUE GOES UNADDRESSED IN UN CHIEF'S HIGH-STAKES TALKS WITH IRAN'S PRESIDENT

Their cousin, Masoud Nourmohammadi, told The Guardian that the twins had badly swollen and bruised faces, injuries to their elbows, hands and feet, and significant hair loss that he said resulted from guards pulling them by their hair as they were moved between cells. He said their mother also learned that the sisters had been held in solitary confinement.

Now 20, Taraneh Rahimi faces execution over her alleged role in the January protests, while her twin sister could spend decades in prison, in a case unfolding amid a sharp rise in Iran’s use of the death penalty.

Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported that Taraneh was sentenced to death and an additional 11 years in prison, while Romina received a 36-year sentence. The sentences were issued by Branch 1 of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court and remain initial-stage verdicts.

The twins are among 16 defendants prosecuted in what has become known as the "Isfahan Shohada Square" case. HRANA said 10 defendants received death sentences and the 16 defendants collectively received 256 years in prison.

The sisters’ family says the abuse was intended to force confessions.

Nourmohammadi told The Guardian that Taraneh was threatened that prison guards would rape Romina in front of her unless she signed a confession. The outlet reported that Taraneh later told the court that admissions attributed to her had been obtained through torture. Her mother was not permitted to attend the trial, according to the family.

Radio Farda separately reported, citing Nourmohammadi, that the sisters suffered physical and psychological abuse and were forced to confess to accusations they deny. The Hana Human Rights Organization told Fox News Digital they have verified the torture allegations.

Concerns about torture extend beyond the sisters. HRANA reported that another defendant in the same case, Ahmadreza Saeidi, told judges during the hearing that the investigating judge personally used an electric stun gun on his neck and genitals. Defense lawyers also reportedly complained that they had not been given access to substantial portions of the case file or adequate time to examine evidence before trial.

The sentences come as rights organizations document a sharp rise in executions across Iran.

The Washington-based Abdorrahman Boroumand Center for Human Rights in Iran documented 901 executions during the first seven months of 2026, including 56 people executed on political or national-security charges.

Behnam Ben Taleblu, Iran program senior director at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told Fox News Digital that the executions should be viewed as part of a broader campaign by Tehran to suppress dissent at home.

"Despite the war in the region, despite the drone war, the missile war, the war over the Strait of Hormuz, the real war is the one that's happening on a day-to-day basis inside the Islamic Republic," Ben Taleblu said. "The Islamic Republic is quite literally cracking skulls, cracking down on civil society, on dissidents, on protesters."

Among those imprisoned in Iran’s broader crackdown is Seyed Ahmad Seyedabdollahi, a 32-year-old psychologist whose case Fox News Digital reported in August.

Seyedabdollahi posted an English-language video on Jan. 4 appealing directly to President Donald Trump to support Iranian protesters, according to his relatives and Fox News Digital’s previous reporting. He was arrested 10 days later and ultimately sentenced to seven months in prison and barred from government and public services for five years.

His relatives told Fox News Digital that Iranian authorities later pressured him to record another video insulting Trump and Americans and alleged that he was subjected to solitary confinement and torture.

The Hana Human Rights Organization reported Aug. 9 that Seyedabdollahi had been held in Borujen Prison since July 7 and that authorities opened a second case against him on a charge of "propaganda against the system of the Islamic Republic." Hana also confirmed that he was serving a seven-month sentence and had received a five-year disqualification from public and governmental services.

His relatives confirmed to Fox News Digital that authorities have continued pressuring him to say he was a "foreign agent" paid by the U.S. government. They also said authorities revoked his professional license, adding financial pressure on his family.

Ben Taleblu said Tehran has followed a similar pattern after previous periods of external conflict, turning its attention inward against perceived opponents.

"We saw this trend in the aftermath of the 12-day war as well," Ben Taleblu said. "Lose a war abroad, come home and pretend like you're the victor."

"Simply here, the Islamic Republic is continuing the longest war it's ever fought, which is the 47-year war against the Iranian people," he added.

Wednesday marks four years since the Sept. 16, 2022, death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish Iranian woman who was detained three days earlier by Iran’s morality police over what authorities described as "improper hijab." The 2022 uprising was itself part of a longer cycle of unrest. Nationwide demonstrations beginning in December 2017 rapidly spread across Iran and represented the largest challenge to the government since the 2009 Green Movement. The 2017-18 protests were followed by another major nationwide wave in 2019 and then the 2022 Woman, Life, Freedom uprising.

Ben Taleblu argued that whenever another major protest movement emerges, Western governments should be prepared to help Iranians communicate with one another and the outside world, particularly when authorities shut down internet access.

"We know every single time another major protest is happening, the way the regime cracks down is to first turn off the internet," he said. "That means the regime fears what comes of coordination between Iranians and fears what comes of when the Iranians are able to send their message outside to the international community."

Smithsonian move reignites 'woke,' 'Marxist' criticism as Latino museum avoids congressional approval

The Smithsonian designated its Arts and Industries Building as the permanent home of the controversial National Museum of the American Latino, a move critics say will allow the institution to move forward without another congressional fight over a museum they argue should not exist.

The decision comes as the Smithsonian faces intensifying scrutiny over its historical exhibits. Mike Gonzalez, a former Bush State Department official and longtime critic of the Latino museum, argued its inaugural exhibition promoted a far-left worldview and said selecting the Arts and Industries Building was an effort to avoid a contentious Capitol Hill battle.

"We need to fire the Smithsonian leadership," Gonzalez said. "We need to get rid of the Latino museum. It needs to be de-authorized. It should not exist."

Shortly after the interview, his wish partially came true when the Smithsonian's top official, Secretary Lonnie Bunch III, announced his retirement after four decades with the institution.

Gonzalez examined the Latino museum’s inaugural 2022 exhibition, "¡Presente!," in a Heritage Foundation report shared with Fox News Digital. He also testified alongside National Museum of American History Director Anthea Hartig during congressional hearings in July.

The Smithsonian declined comment on Gonzalez’s report or his comments to Fox News Digital.

Gonzalez argues the location decision matters because the Smithsonian already controls A&I, unlike the National Park Service sites previously under consideration.

"They want to use this as kind of a ruse," Gonzalez said, arguing that the institution can avoid another congressional fight by placing the museum on property it already controls.

Gonzalez examined "¡Presente!," and argued that a series of panels reflected what he described as an anti-Western, anti-American worldview. He pointed to its use of the idea "we didn't cross the border, the border crossed us" as historically inaccurate and said it is a favorite mantra of those on the left who criticize immigration law enforcement.

He said the language casts U.S. westward expansion primarily through the lens of displacement while obscuring the history of Mexicans who remained in territory acquired by the United States and later became American citizens.

"I guess your guest today would count as one of them," he said of himself. "Even though I don't… run around calling myself a Hispanic. I'm a proud American of Cuban heritage."

His report also highlights exhibits dealing with gender identity, immigration and the veneration of Marxist luminaries and political figures. Speaking to Fox News Digital from Israel, he said such attacks on national identity would never "fly."

One exhibit featured in Gonzalez’ report was titled "Jose Julio Sarria: Drag and Politics" and described Sarria as a "legendary drag performer [and] the first openly gay person to run for public office in the U.S." Another panel featured a Cuban transgender HIV/AIDS activist who fled the country during the Mariel Boatlift.

"They create[d] a hothouse, an incubator of grievances among these 70 million Americans of Hispanic descent," he said, adding that Sarria and another featured figure prove that point.

That example involves Orlando Letelier, a foreign minister under former Marxist Chilean President Salvador Allende.

A photograph from the exhibition shows a 1976 quote from Letelier discussing his imprisonment under the Pinochet dictatorship and his later "liberation" in the name of restoring human rights.

"Orlando Letelier has nothing to do with America, other than the fact that he died in a car explosion in Washington D.C., in 1976, but I'm old enough to remember that he was a cause-celebre of the left [then]," he said.

"This is not an American story. The only reason he's there is because the curators who worked in this exhibit betrayed who they are... They're Marxists."

Gonzalez, who said his father was imprisoned by Cuba’s former "tin-pot dictator" Fulgencio Batista before the leader was overthrown by Fidel Castro in 1959, said the Latino museum also does a rank disservice to the true history of Marxist-Leninist rule in Havana.

"Havana perhaps has not been at war since the British invasion of 1763 and yet it looks like it’s been carpet-bombed: It’s been carpet-bombed by socialism."

The exhibit on Batista omits the oppressive reign of the Castro brothers and also features a cartoon mocking the U.S. for the Reagan-era Iran-Contra affair, the report said. Gonzalez noted the latter aged poorly because the Daniel Ortega regime the U.S. opposed in Nicaragua is back in power decades later and has recently eliminated elections.

Rep. Carlos Gimenez, R-Fla., a Smithsonian Regent and someone who also fled Cuban socialism, said the institution is a "crown jewel" of the United States and should be held to that standard.

Social media users are taking jabs at California Gov. Gavin Newsom over his latest political stunt — a recorded fly-fishing outing with a CNN anchor that the Democrat used to break news about his often-rumored presidential ambitions.

In the interview, recorded in Montana more than a month ago, CNN's Jake Tapper is seen with Newsom standing in shallow water, repeatedly casting fly reels while talking politics. Newsom told Tapper he wouldn't run for president if former failed 2024 presidential candidate former Vice President Kamala Harris tossed her hat into the ring.

"Of course not. Why would I?" Newsom said when asked whether he would run against Harris in a presidential primary. "I wouldn’t do that to her. I wouldn’t do it to me. Why would I? I wouldn’t do that to you."

"I wouldn’t waste everyone’s time. Who needs that?"

Tapper pushed back, saying Newsom could do it if he really wanted to.

"I know her base of supporters. I know her friends," Newsom said of the former U.S. senator from California.

"The zen diagram (sic) on that is just pure crossover. It’s not — I wouldn’t do that to — I wouldn’t do that to people," he said, mixing up the Buddhist meditation practice with a Venn diagram, the visual tool where overlapping circles are used to show how groups are similar and different.

"How lucky are we that a camera crew just happened to be standing in a Montana river while two guys who can’t cast pretended to fly fish," said a popular X user with more than 55,000 followers. "Totally organic. Not staged at all. CNN is doing the Lord’s work trying to make Newsom look like a regular dude. Herculean task."

Free Beacon reporter Chuck Ross wrote, "The best part of this is when Newsom says 'Zen diagram' when he was talking about a Venn diagram."

"Jake Tapper and Gavin Newsom pretending to be regular guys fishing is absolutely hilarious," said another user with 1.7 million followers.

Lindsay Clancy judge indefinitely impounds juror names, citing safety and 'divisive' attention

The judge in the Lindsay Clancy case has indefinitely sealed the jurors' names, citing safety concerns and what he called "significant and divisive attention" on the trial.

Judge William Sullivan issued the order on Monday and said while the court acknowledges that the jurors' names must be made available to the public, there is a "real and present" risk of harm to the jurors, stating he's impounding all names indefinitely until otherwise ordered.

Sullivan noted that there have been "identifications of jurors and their personal information without their permission" in explaining his reasoning for shielding the jurors' names.

"Some of the empaneled jurors have come forward and spoken to the media after the declaration of a mistrial on September 4, 2026. However, the majority of the jurors, deliberating and alternates, have maintained their anonymity, despite multiple requests to give statements," Sullivan wrote. "The Court concludes that there is a risk of immediate and irreparable injury should the list be made available to the public at this time."

Army veteran paratrooper who deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan before helping rescue Fox News reporter dead at 50

Sean Michael Lee, an Army paratrooper who helped evacuate thousands from conflict zones after his service — including Fox News' Benjamin Hall — died Sunday after a battle with esophageal cancer.

Lee was a 20-year veteran of the Army, having served multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan as a member of the Army's storied 82nd Airborne Division, according to his obituary.

"He was, to his core, a paratrooper. Long after he took off the uniform, the values forged there remained the organizing principles of his life: duty, loyalty, competence under pressure, and an unwavering commitment to the person beside him," his obituary reads.

Lee spent the years after his military service continuing to help people. In 2021, as Afghanistan's government was collapsing, Lee worked to help evacuate thousands during a chaotic withdrawal as a member of the nonprofit group Save Our Allies.

Just a year later, Lee was in Poland helping deliver supplies to the frontline in Ukraine in the midst of Russia's invasion. It was there that Lee became a key part of extracting Fox News correspondent Benjamin Hall, who had been severely injured when Russian forces attacked his vehicle near Kyiv. Two members of Hall’s crew were killed in the attack.

Lee also worked to help wounded veterans through The Independence Fund.

In 2024, Lee helped deliver life-saving supplies to survivors of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina. He lived out of a tent in the Tar Heel state as he helped deliver aid to communities where support systems had collapsed, according to his obituary.

Most recently, Lee had been working under Secretary Doug Collins at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Half of the company received Purple Hearts for an Afghanistan deployment that was documented in Ben Kesling’s book "Bravo Company: An Afghanistan Deployment and its Aftermath."

Lee's two best friends — Sgt. Michael Verardo and Sgt. Allen Thomas — both of whom deployed with him to Afghanistan, passed away before him.

Lee's cancer was the direct result of his exposure to the burn pits in Iraq and Afghanistan. He died at age 50.

In Afghan families given a chance to begin again. In communities that received help when they believed they had been forgotten. Europe’s left courts Muslim voters as anti-Israel politics reshape continent

It's known as the "Red-Green Alliance" — a political coalition between Europe's far-left parties and Islamist groups that is increasingly shaping policy, particularly regarding Israel as the continent experiences a worrying rise in antisemitism that critics are linking to this partnership.

With the rise of Muslim voters across Europe, many on the left and extreme-left are being influenced by this increasingly important voting bloc.

Just last week in the U.K., critics accused the left-wing Labour government of sanctioning Israel as a ploy to win back Muslim voters from the far-left, anti-Israel Green and Independent parties. Conservative lawmaker Tom Tugendhat called the sanctions' announcement "performative politics."

In Sunday’s parliamentary elections in Sweden, exit polling from the state broadcaster shows that votes from non-European Swedes are giving an alliance of left-wing parties a narrow three-seat lead over a right-leaning coalition led by current Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.

One Swedish political researcher, Tobias Hübinette, pointed to Mayor Zohran Mamdani's win in New York City and said that the numbers in the Swedish election show that this "election meant a 'Mamdanification' of urban Sweden, and the gap between city and country is now larger than ever before," he wrote on X.

"They should be in disagreement," Simone Rodan-Benzaquen, the senior envoy to Europe at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told Fox News Digital, "but the Islamists are very capable of covering that up for political purposes… The antisemitism that we have today, in particular in Western Europe, is definitely fed far more (by) the far left's discourse."

Alan Mendoza, executive director of the Henry Jackson Society in the U.K. said that, "For a decade, Europe has trained its anxieties almost exclusively on the far-right, and while that vigilance is warranted, it has left a blind spot on the other flank… Antisemitism is not less dangerous because it arrives waving a progressive banner."

Germany-based Dresden University of Technology research fellow Janek Treiber said that, "There is indeed an intriguing alliance between the supposedly progressive left and regressive forces within Islamism." He told Fox News Digital that, "The unifying factor is a kind of victimization narrative. For the left that supports the Palestinian cause, Muslims are the oppressed and the West – including Israel – are the oppressors… Whether Muslims hold conservative-religious views in this context is irrelevant."

Voters in Berlin head to the ballot box this coming Sunday, with polls showing the far-left Die Linke Party, literally translated as the "The Left," leading the center-right Christian Democratic Union by two points.

"In Berlin, a party polling at the top of the field has factions that share platforms, demonstrations and slogans with networks the German security services themselves link to Hamas and the PFLP," Mendoza claimed. "When 'Death to the IDF' and 'Intifada' are chanted at an election event, and the response from parts of the party is to defend the man who led them, the red line has been erased, not crossed."

Rodan-Benzaquen says that while Germany’s political "firewall" against far-right parties like the AfD "seems to work more or less on the right, it doesn't on the left," because, "there is a perception that whatever comes from the left, even the far-left, is not morally as repugnant as anything that comes from the right."

Germany and the U.K. are not alone. The far-left Sumar Party in Spain is part of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s ruling coalition. Their support in the last election was strongest in areas with high Muslim populations, with party members attending demonstrations with Muslim Brotherhood-adjacent groups and Gaza protests organized by Islamist-leaning networks. Members have also pushed for Spain to recognize a Palestinian state while also referring to Israel as an "apartheid state." Spain recognized a Palestinian state in 2024.

The far-left La France Insoumise (LFI) Party in France has been accused by academics and ministers of "Islamo‑leftism" after their de facto leader, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, refused to call Hamas a terrorist organization and party members marched with Islamist-linked NGOs during Gaza protests. The LFI’s popularity has been on the rise in polling ahead of next year’s presidential election and, according to French newspaper Le Monde, the LFI’s electoral strength lies in Muslim-majority suburban districts.

Israeli Ambassador to France Joshua Zarka recently told Fox News Digital that, "The way [LFI leader] Jean-Luc Mélenchon speaks in front of a crowd reminds me of Hitler. The way he uses the idea of uniting against one enemy by speaking of Israel is similar to the way Hitler used to speak about the Jews."

Commenting on the sanctions imposed by the U.K. government on Israel, Britain's Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis called the announcement on X "a truly dark day for British Jews." His statement continued in part, "Gesture politics of this kind feeds into an increasingly hostile discourse about Israel," he wrote, warning that the cumulative effect of such policies could "further embolden those, at home and abroad, who use hatred as a weapon against Jews."

Pointing to the U.K., Rodan-Benzaquen said the alliance grew while Jeremy Corbyn was the Labour Party leader. "You have this far left anti-imperialist, anti-colonialist, opposition to American power and, of course, to Israel itself. An alliance with Islamist organizations and movements that sort of adopt a common language, despite the fact that on many topics they are in certain disagreement… They have basically turned themselves from a party that cared about class, that cared about improving (lives), social rights, etcetera, into a party that is basically looking at identity politics and is trying to appeal to certain voters."

She said the red-green alliance is nothing new. "We've seen it for a long time. We've actually seen it in the Islamic Republic of Iran when the Islamic Revolution happened."

Europe’s Muslim population is estimated to be 45–46 million, up by 15.9% from 2010, based on Pew Research Center projections. That same study revealed the population of European Jewry had fallen to under 1.3 million — down 8% from 2010.

China expert warns Beijing wants Americans — not the CCP — to spread its message

Congress will examine how foreign adversaries — particularly China — seek to influence American public opinion and policymaking at a hearing in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.

One of the expert witnesses told Fox News Digital ahead of the hearing that Beijing's greater advantage lies in shaping debate inside the United States through American organizations rather than direct Chinese propaganda.

Matthew Johnson, a China expert and senior fellow at the Jamestown Foundation, said Beijing increasingly seeks to influence debates over national security and other strategic issues by working through American institutions and organizations, making its messages appear homegrown rather than directed by the Chinese government.

"The idea is that it's not the Communist Party talking, it's actually institutions and individuals in the United States who are talking," Johnson told Fox News Digital. "That's actually the best outcome because then it looks organic... it looks like it's somehow being produced from within our society as opposed to by external actors."

Johnson said one of Beijing's current priorities is slowing U.S. advances in artificial intelligence and data-center infrastructure—an area he said Chinese leaders view as central to strategic competition with the United States. He said China's influence strategy combines grassroots activism with efforts to shape thinking among academics, policy experts and other influential voices.

His testimony comes as Congress continues examining the funding network linked to Shanghai-based Marxist tech tycoon Neville Roy Singham, whose nonprofits have become the subject of congressional investigations and a federal criminal probe.

Fox News Digital previously reported that Singham directed at least $285 million into six pro-China, pro-communist nonprofit organizations beginning in 2017, including CodePink. Singham and the organizations have denied taking direction from the Chinese government, and neither Singham nor the organizations have been charged with wrongdoing.

Johnson is scheduled to testify Tuesday before the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on South and Central Asia, which will hold a hearing titled "Trojan Horses: Covert Foreign Malign Influence Operations in America." Lawmakers are expected to examine how foreign adversaries, including China, Cuba and Iran, may use nonprofits, activist networks and other organizations to shape U.S. public opinion and policy.

"My goal is to raise the curtain to expose these operations and stop them from undermining our national security, capitalism and the American Dream," committee Chairman Rep. Bill Huizenga, R-Mich., told Fox News Digital.

Johnson said the hearing focuses on what lawmakers describe as "malign foreign influence"—efforts by foreign governments to shape American public debate and policymaking by steering conversations toward their own strategic interests rather than those of the United States.

"I try to break down influence in terms of looking at ways in which the framework of very sensitive strategic conversations is being steered in ways that seem to map onto China's strategic interests, not American strategic interests," Johnson said.

He said the concept of a "Trojan horse" reflects Beijing's preference for influencing American debate through domestic institutions and individuals rather than direct government messaging.

"From an American perspective, we want to be sure that it's Americans who are leading the debate on this issue, not Beijing," Johnson said.

Among the organizations that have received funding from Singham's network is CodePink, the anti-war activist group co-founded by Medea Benjamin and Jodie Evans, Singham's wife. CodePink has spent years organizing disruptive protests inside Congress, campaigning against U.S. policy toward China, Cuba and Israel, and promoting its "China Is Not Our Enemy" campaign, which argues the United States should pursue cooperation with Beijing rather than confrontation. House Ways and Means Committee Republicans have accused the group of promoting narratives aligned with Chinese Communist Party interests, allegations CodePink denies.

Asked why campaigns such as CodePink's "China Is Not Our Enemy" matter, Johnson said they promote an image of China that serves Beijing's strategic interests by downplaying the broader geopolitical competition between the two countries.

"The idea that we don't want war with China, we want peace... these are all noble goals," Johnson said. "But... its strategic function is that it masks the fact that Beijing actually does seek a world order that is more shaped by Beijing in which the United States plays a lesser role."

Johnson said China does not have to convince Americans to support the Chinese Communist Party to advance its interests. Instead, he said, Beijing benefits when public debate shifts away from viewing China as a strategic competitor.

"The real issue is whether there is actually a balance and whether we have enough transparency to allow us to assess whether there's a balance," Johnson said.

Thomas Matthew Crooks, the Pennsylvania man who killed a bystander and seriously wounded two others in a failed assassination attempt on President Donald Trump, had no friends as a teenager and used the alias "Bob Dole" while ordering suspicious packages before an anonymous donor paid for his body to be cremated, according to federal documents viewed by Fox News Digital.

The records turned over to the Senate show Thomas’ actions were a surprise to his family, and his motive is still a mystery.

Crooks, 20, typically collected packages addressed to the Dole alias before his father, who worked late, came home.

He was shot and killed after opening fire at a Trump rally in July 2024. A family attorney told investigators that he had been cremated shortly thereafter — paid for by an anonymous donor, according to the documents.

After the shooting, his father, Matthew Crooks, took an early retirement, and his mother, Mary Crooks, went on leave from work to process the situation.

The documents, compiled as part of the investigation into the 2024 shooting at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, also include interviews with his father, who told FBI agents the gunman "never identified anyone as a friend throughout middle school and high school."

When agents interviewed Crooks' parents the day after the shooting, his father told investigators that although his son socialized with classmates, the gunman told him they were not his friends.

In the months before the shooting, Crooks's father observed him talking to himself. His father, who worked in the mental health field, said he did not see other signs of a potential mental illness.

Although his father described him as a straight-A student who scored a 1400 on his first SAT attempt, without studying, he told investigators he son feared he might not get into college and showed a change of behavior between his freshman and sophomore years of high school. He became quieter and had a hard time speaking with teachers.

At one point, he floated the idea of joining the military to work on nuclear submarines, but it was unclear how serious he was about that ambition.

Crooks adopted the Dole pseudonym after his father's checking account had been hacked and fraudulent gambling charges appeared, Matthew Crooks told investigators.

Mr T taught me a lesson every kid on Chicago's South Side needs to hear

I recently watched the new Netflix documentary on Mr. T. I admit it was disappointing. It felt thin and rushed to me. The filmmakers clearly had no passion for the film since it failed to capture his nature, his complexities, his faith, his service, the hardships and the depth of the road that he traveled. A 48-minute documentary is not enough to do justice to such a life. After all, this is a man who traveled from the rough and violent housing projects known as the Robert Taylor Homes to the top of the world.

Still, the documentary reminded me of why Mr. T has always been such an inspirational figure in my life, from my childhood even to now. I hold him up as a role model to my young kids at Project H.O.O.D. His life is one of hard work, doing the right thing and having a dream. Those are not clichés or empty slogans. They are the values that create opportunities in life.

Laurence Tureaud was born May 21, 1952, the second-youngest of 12 children on Chicago’s South Side. His father, a minister, left when Laurence was five. His mother, Willie, earned a living cleaning houses in the Lake Forest area of Chicago, and her income to support all her children was supplemented by an $87 monthly welfare check. They were poor, but not in family or spirit. Mr. T talks of how they went to church, loved their mother and stayed away from the gangs.

MR. T ON FAITH: 'I ANSWER ONLY TO GOD'

One of my favorite Mr. T quotes is, "I was born and raised in the ghetto, but the ghetto was not born and raised in me." Like anyone in the Robert Taylor Homes, he saw violence and all the things that no child should ever see. He also saw racism. He saw white men call his father a "boy."

In the documentary, he talks of how his brother went to fight in Vietnam as a Marine and came home only to be called a "boy." When Laurence was 18, he vowed that no one would ever call him a boy. He changed his name to Mr. T so that the first word out of anyone talking to him would be "Mister." What he was demanding was the respect and dignity that his family had been denied. He respected himself.

At Dunbar Vocational High School, he became a football star and a city wrestling champion. He did not have a fancy gym to build his muscles. He worked out with his brothers on the concrete around the projects. They did push-ups. They did chin-ups from tree branches. They wrestled one another. They built those muscles the honest way. Mr. T won a scholarship to Prairie View A&M, but that did not work out. He moved to the Loop of Chicago because that is where the money was. For me, that is key because he put himself where the opportunity was. He wound up working three jobs at once, and one of them was as a bouncer at a club.

It was there that he got the news that his mother had been robbed of her welfare money by thugs in the elevator of the projects. They told her to give them her money or they would cut her throat. Mr. T grabbed his shotgun and went into the projects, where he confronted gang members until he found the people who had made his mother fear for her life. After confronting those responsible, he decided to become a bodyguard. He would protect others the way he believed he had failed to protect his mother.

THE WELFARE STATE BROKE BLACK FAMILIES. WORK CAN HELP RESTORE THE DREAM

What I love about this story is that he turned what he believed to be a personal failure into a calling. I don’t think it was a personal failure at all, but what he was trying to do in his own way was make the world a better place. He would use his talents and smarts in that way. He didn’t fall into the gang life or anything like that. He created a new pathway in life instead.

I don’t know where I read it, but I remember the story of when he was nine years old or so. He told his mother, "One of these days I’m going to be big and strong. I’m going to be a football player and a boxer. I’m going to buy you a beautiful house and pretty dresses." She didn’t laugh at him or mock him. She didn’t doubt him. She instead spoke to him of values and told him that the way to get there was to work hard, save his money and get after it. That’s what Mr. T did. It was those values, not the Hollywood fame, not the gold chains, not the "I pity the fool" line — it was those values that were the engine of his life.

That’s the part that I want my kids to hear. Not the mohawk or the tough scowl. I tell them that Mr. T was once just a child like them, born into a bad ZIP code. But he was a dreamer who had family around him and who never walked down the wrong path or went to jail because he could not bear to break his mother’s heart. That’s how love can save a child.

And I tell them how Mr. T started at the bottom. He didn’t look for shortcuts or get-rich-quick schemes. He believed in himself, and he created his own opportunities. He used sports to discipline himself, he served his country, and he worked as a janitor, gym teacher and a doorman before anyone called him a "star." He stayed true to himself and made himself so unique that people just wanted to be around him. He was one of a kind and, most of all, he was real, and that’s why the world gravitated toward him.

We spend far too much time telling the young kids on the South Side that the system or the Man is out to get them. We talk about systemic racism without going anywhere. There’s no hope in any of that. That’s why those conversations just peter out and die when we run out of doom and gloom. And what good does it do to poison a young child’s mind with all that negativity?

That’s why I’d rather talk about South Side heroes like Mr. T. His life gives us the simple but brutally honest lesson: Your circumstances are real, and they may be unfair and stacked against you, but they are not your destiny. You are. Your faith, your work, your respect and the dream that you have for yourself — that is your destiny. You have to do the hardest thing in the world, which is to believe in yourself. If you do, you will reach heights you never knew were possible.

That is the simple truth I tell my kids every day. I even tell that to myself. I know I speak of opportunity all the time, but it is not a political talking point for me. It is the lifesaver. It is the boy who decides that he will buy his mother a house. It is the young man who decides that his circumstances will not define him. It is the man who decides his fate. I pity the fool who looks at Mr. T’s life and still tells our kids they cannot rise.

And, yes, Mr. T did buy his mother a beautiful mansion, complete with an elevator, in the Lake Forest neighborhood where she used to clean houses.

Oil squeeze tightens as Iran-backed attacks cripple Hormuz escape routes

The U.S. is choking off Iran’s oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz. But the routes meant to shield other Gulf producers from that disruption are now coming under pressure themselves.

A drone attack last week badly damaged Saudi Arabia’s East-West Pipeline, a critical bypass that carries crude oil across the kingdom to the Red Sea. Repairs could leave it largely out of service for three to five weeks after it had been moving roughly 2.6 million to 4 million barrels per day in recent weeks.

At the same time, Iran-backed Houthi rebels have seized additional territory and strategic islands around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait — which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean — adding pressure to another major shipping route already battered by years of attacks.

And those repeated disruptions are already reaching American consumers.

NEW RISK FOR US CONSUMERS AS IRAN-BACKED ATTACKS THREATEN A SECOND MAJOR OIL CHOKEPOINT

U.S. diesel prices hit a record national average of $6.23 a gallon Monday, according to AAA, while regular gasoline averaged $4.32. Brent crude climbed as high as roughly $110 a barrel during the day.

Washington has sharply curtailed Iran’s oil exports and trade, but the wider conflict is still disrupting energy supplies elsewhere in the region, especially as Iran-backed Houthi rebels strengthen their stance along the coastline in Yemen.

THE OVERLOOKED WAY THE IRAN WAR IS MAKING GROCERIES, AMAZON PACKAGES AND NEW HOMES MORE EXPENSIVE

The question now is whether Iran is hurting enough to make the concessions Trump wants — and how much economic damage Tehran and its allies can still inflict while it holds out.

The economic pressure on Tehran is mounting.

Iran has gone weeks without sending meaningful new crude exports through Hormuz. Since the United States reinstated its naval blockade July 14, no Iranian crude cargoes have successfully crossed the strait to China, Tehran’s largest remaining oil customer, according to Kpler, Vortexa and TankerTrackers.com.

Iranian crude and condensate loadings fell to roughly 220,000 to 255,000 barrels per day in August, down from about 740,000 in July and roughly 2 million in March.

Commercial shipping through Hormuz also remains deeply disrupted. Recent readings from Kpler, which tracks real-time data on global commodity flows and maritime shipping, have repeatedly put visible commodity-vessel transits in the single digits, even as the U.S. has worked to restore some movement through the waterway.

Miad Maleki, a senior fellow with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, said the pressure is increasingly reaching beyond Iran’s oil industry and into the broader economy.

HORMUZ CRISIS HIDES A DEEPER OIL THREAT THAT COULD OUTLAST THE WAR

"There are a series of indications" that the pressure is working, Maleki told Fox News Digital, citing the combined effect of sanctions, the naval blockade and growing diplomatic isolation.

Iran depends heavily on trade through the United Arab Emirates and Turkey, Maleki said, and restrictions on those channels are making it harder to obtain foreign currency and essential imports.

Gasoline could become an especially difficult pressure point.

Iran remains one of the world’s major crude producers but lacks sufficient refining capacity to meet its own demand, leaving it dependent on imports that have become more difficult to secure.

The regime can cushion some of the financial blow by continuing to print currency and pay salaries, Maleki said, allowing inflation to absorb part of the pressure rather than immediately cutting government payrolls.

Physical shortages are harder to solve.

But that does not necessarily mean Tehran has deliberately substituted the Bab el-Mandeb for Hormuz as a new source of leverage.

Iran expert Arash Azizi said Tehran has already been forced to recognize that its ability to dominate the Strait of Hormuz is weaker than it once claimed.

"Iran has realized that some of the leverage it has over the threat of Hormuz is gone," Azizi told Fox News Digital.

"[Iran] is not able to close it effectively and is desperately trying to find a way to better its odds," he said.

Azizi cautioned, however, against treating every Houthi move as part of a coordinated Iranian strategy to transfer pressure from the Persian Gulf to the Red Sea.

"Iran has limited control, and the Houthi-Saudi conflict has a dynamics of its own," he said.

IRAN LOSES KEY ECONOMIC LIFELINE IN MIDDLE EAST THAT TRUMP'S SANCTIONS COULDN'T REACH AS DEADLOCK PERSISTS

Iran encourages and materially supports the Houthis, Azizi said, but does not exercise full operational control over the group.

That distinction matters as the Houthis strengthen their position around Bab el-Mandeb.

Their capture of Mayun Island, the port of Mokha and, most recently, the Greater and Lesser Hanish islands has expanded their reach around one of the world’s most important shipping corridors. Yet the group has continued to allow many vessels to pass rather than attempting a total closure of the strait.

Azizi described the instability there as a "double-edged sword" for Tehran.

Pressure on shipping and Saudi energy infrastructure can raise costs for Iran’s adversaries and increase anxiety in global oil markets. But a broader regional conflict can also make it harder for Tehran to achieve what Azizi described as its overriding objective: ending the war, preserving the Islamic Republic and beginning reconstruction.

For Tehran, he said, the immediate goal is therefore less about opening a new front than improving the terms on which it can end the current one.

Iran wants "some sort of a deal that puts an end to the war," preserves the Islamic Republic and allows it to begin postwar reconstruction, Azizi said.

That shifts the central question back to Washington.

The Trump administration has demonstrated that it can inflict severe economic pressure on Iran. What remains unclear is whether additional pressure produces the concessions Washington wants — and whether the costs Iran and its regional allies can still impose improve Tehran’s bargaining position or deepen its isolation.

Azizi believes Tehran may already be prepared to move.

"I think Iran is ready to make concessions," he said. "The question is, what concessions the United States would find acceptable?"

He said Iran’s negotiating position has already softened from earlier in the conflict, when Tehran claimed sweeping authority over traffic through Hormuz.

The regime’s principal red line now, he argued, is its own survival.

Some Iranian officials may still believe continued pressure on energy markets and the U.S. economy could improve Tehran’s hand, particularly ahead of the midterm elections, Azizi said. But the imbalance in economic pain remains stark.

"We are not hurting. Our daily life is not affected in a crazy manner by this war," he said of Americans. "Iran is hurting a lot more than the United States."

"Iran is selling no oil," Azizi added.

Azizi said the blockade, more than the administration’s latest sanctions package alone, has fundamentally worsened Iran’s outlook by restricting trade while leaving businesses with little idea when normal commercial activity might resume.

Maleki similarly said the regime can absorb inflation and financial losses for some time without immediately buckling. The more difficult test comes when financial pressure becomes physical scarcity.

That makes the next phase of the U.S. campaign less about proving that Iran is hurting than determining whether Washington can turn that pain into an acceptable deal before Tehran or its regional allies find new ways to raise the cost of holding out.

"They can keep printing rial," Maleki said. "But they can’t print gasoline."

Netflix released the first look at "Animals" with Ben Affleck and Kerry Washington back in August, and it immediately sparked some buzz.

Affleck has turned into one of the most impressive directors in Hollywood, and a gritty thriller about a kidnapped child and "a web of deception" is always going to be a solid foundation for a film.

Well, the streaming giant released the first official full trailer on Tuesday morning, and it's going to send expectations soaring.

"Animals" looks like it's going to be an unbelievably dark and brutal ride, judging from the new preview.

Tesla Cybercab bars kids under 13 as scrutiny grows

Tesla's Cybercab is finally carrying riders in Austin, Texas. And some of the details buried in the fine print may surprise you.

The gold two-seater has no steering wheel or pedals. Tesla says it uses cameras and AI to handle the driving, putting passengers entirely in the hands of its autonomous system.

Yet the Sept. 3 launch was unusually low-key for Tesla. The main presentation reportedly lasted about 15 minutes, and Elon Musk apparently did not speak. Then, on Sept. 4, federal safety regulators announced an investigation into how Tesla certified Cybercab for U.S. roads.

Tesla has spent years building toward this moment. Now that real riders are climbing inside, the little details suddenly become much more important. Here is what you should know before you step into a Cybercab.

Tesla Cybercab has a surprising age limit

If you planned to call a Cybercab for a family ride, check the passenger rules first. Tesla says children under 13 cannot ride in Cybercab "at this time." Teens ages 13 through 17 can ride, although an adult must accompany them for the entire trip.

Interestingly, Tesla sets a different age limit for the Model Y vehicles in its Robotaxi service. Children ages 8 through 17 can ride in those vehicles with an adult. Guests under 8 cannot.

So, an 11-year-old could ride in a Tesla Model Y Robotaxi but could not take the same trip in a Cybercab. Tesla does not explain the reason for that difference in its current rider guidance. Then there is another detail parents may notice.

Cybercab has no LATCH child-seat anchors

Tesla confirms that Cybercab has no LATCH or ISOFIX child-restraint system. If a rider needs a booster seat, Tesla says it must use a seat belt to secure it.

That may sound odd considering Cybercab does not allow children under 13. However, some older children may still need a booster seat depending on their size and local requirements.

Tesla gives instructions for using one, but there are no LATCH anchors to attach it to. It is the kind of detail most of us probably would not think about until a Cybercab showed up at the curb.

What happens if a Cybercab crashes?

A driverless vehicle still needs a plan for the moment something goes wrong. According to Tesla documentation, a collision can trigger several automatic responses. The airbags can deploy and the doors can unlock. Hazard lights and interior lights can also switch on.

The vehicle can disable its high-voltage battery, move the windows into a vent position and apply the brakes until it comes to a stop. Tesla's system can also open a two-way connection with its Robotaxi Support team.

That support connection could become especially important in a vehicle where nobody can grab the steering wheel or hit the brakes. Tesla also gives riders ways to stop a trip themselves.

There is an emergency Stop button

Look above you when you get inside a Cybercab. Tesla placed a dedicated Stop button between the dome lights. Pressing it sends an immediate pull-over request, ends the ride and connects you with Robotaxi Support.

You can also tap Pull Over on the touchscreen or make the request through the Robotaxi app. However, Tesla warns that an "immediate" pull-over may still take some time. For example, the vehicle may need longer to reach a safe stopping point while traveling on a highway. That is worth knowing before your first ride.

Tesla made the manual door release easier to find

Tesla's electronic door releases have attracted criticism because passengers may need a mechanical backup when a vehicle loses power.

Cybercab still uses electronically controlled doors during normal operation. In fact, the nearest door can open automatically when the ride requester approaches.

Inside, you can normally open the door through the touchscreen or gently lift a lever on the door panel. Pull that lever firmly all the way up, though, and it activates the mechanical release. Both Cybercab doors have one.

I like that Tesla put the emergency release where a passenger can actually see and reach it. There is one important warning. Tesla says using the mechanical release can damage the window or trim. If the vehicle has no power and the window remains fully raised, Tesla warns the glass could shatter when someone activates the release. That is one instruction I would want to know before an emergency.

Cybercab uses electronic braking

Tesla also made a major change underneath the vehicle. Cybercab uses a brake-by-wire system rather than a traditional hydraulic setup. Electronic actuators control the brake calipers instead of hydraulic lines carrying brake fluid.

Musk said in a post on X that electric brakes avoid the complexity of routing hydraulic plumbing around the vehicle. Tesla has already used steer-by-wire technology in the Cybertruck.

With Cybercab, passengers have no physical driving controls at all. That puts even more responsibility on the electronics and software to work properly every time.

Cybercab windows will not open all the way

Here is one of the stranger details Tesla included in its new rider guide. Cybercab passengers can lower the windows, but Tesla says they "cannot be fully opened at this time." The company does not explain why.

The window switches also sit underneath the center touchscreen rather than on the doors. So, yes, you can crack a window for some air. You simply cannot roll it all the way down right now.

Cybercab packs USB-C charging

At least you should have somewhere to plug in your devices. Tesla confirms that Cybercab has USB-C charging ports inside the cabin.

An attendee at the launch reported that those ports can deliver up to 90 watts of power. That could be enough to charge many laptops.

However, Tesla's current public rider guide does not list that wattage. So, I would treat the 90-watt figure as an early report until Tesla publishes the specification itself.

Federal regulators are already looking at Cybercab

On Sept. 3, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened what it calls an Audit Query into Tesla's certification that Cybercab meets all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. NHTSA announced the action on Sept. 4 following the vehicle's commercial deployment in Austin.

Automakers in the U.S. generally certify their own vehicles as complying with federal standards. NHTSA can then audit those certifications and investigate when questions come up.

Cybercab presents an unusual case because it has no steering wheel, pedals or mirrors. Many federal vehicle rules were written around cars designed for human drivers. NHTSA's audit reportedly covers about 1,000 Cybercabs as the agency reviews how Tesla determined the vehicles comply.

That does not mean regulators have found Cybercab unsafe. It does mean Tesla now has to back up its certification with technical information that satisfies the agency.

What this means to you

If you get the chance to ride in a Cybercab, I would spend a minute learning the cabin before the car starts moving. Find the emergency Stop button. Know where the mechanical door release sits. Keep your seat belt fastened for the entire trip.

Tesla says every passenger must buckle up before the ride begins. Cybercab may pull over or cancel a trip if it detects improper seat-belt use. Parents should also pay close attention to the age rules. Cybercab and Tesla's Model Y Robotaxi do not follow the same limits.

Beyond that, remember how new this vehicle is. Tesla is putting a very different kind of car into real-world service, and regulators are already asking questions about how it fits existing safety standards.

We have seen how unexpected situations can challenge other autonomous vehicles too. CyberGuy recently reported how Waymo recalled robotaxis over a construction-zone risk after vehicles entered closed freeway construction areas.

The technology can be impressive. Still, the real test comes when these vehicles deal with everything ordinary roads throw at them.

Cybercab is finally moving from Tesla's big promise to something people can actually ride in. I like seeing safeguards such as the mechanical door release and emergency Stop button, especially when passengers have no steering wheel or pedals to grab. Still, the under-13 restriction, lack of LATCH anchors and windows that do not fully open caught my attention. Add the federal investigation, and Tesla now has something bigger to prove. Putting Cybercab on the road is one thing. Showing that people can trust it day after day is the real test.

Dan Lanning spars with reporter after Dante Moore misses media following Oregon's loss to Oklahoma State

The Oregon Ducks suffered the most shocking loss of the young college football season by falling to Oklahoma State 39-31 in Week 2. Senior quarterback Dante Moore was nowhere to be found during media availability following the Ducks' loss on the road, which was noticed by every reporter in the room, but according to head coach Dan Lanning, his absence was excused.

The way in which Lanning explained the situation with Moore, however, has led to quite the reaction among fans.

The 40-year-old shared that his quarterback was dehydrated after the final whistle in Stillwater, Okla., before alluding to that being the cause of his absence during the postgame media scrum.

"I don’t think he chose not to," Lanning said during his news conference on Monday. "Did you know he was getting two IVs after the game? He was dehydrated. He’ll be speaking to you guys tomorrow. Any question that you want to ask him, you can certainly ask him.

"I don’t know if you’ve ever given an interview while you’re getting an IV at the same time, getting treatment. Does that make a little more sense? And then there’s a bus and a flight you’re trying to catch, as well. But Dante will be here tomorrow. You can talk to Dante. He was cramping up on the field."

Lanning asking the reporter if the situation made sense, and then reminding everyone that the team had a bus and plane to catch came across as a bit condescending, but the head coach wasn't done there.

When asked why the information about Moore being dehydrated wasn't relayed to the media following the game, Lanning turned defensive.

"Well, should it be?" Lanning asked before the reporter suggested it could have been shared privately to avoid confusion.

Oregon's loss to Oklahoma State was stunning for a number of different reasons.

For starters, the Ducks began the year as a favorite to win the national championship, while the Cowboys are very much in a rebuild mode and lost at home to Tulsa just seven days prior, 24-10. Oregon was a significant favorite heading into the contest against an Oklahoma State team it beat 69-3 the season prior.

Moore finished the contest going 14-for-29 through the air for 191 yards and two touchdowns.

The (current) world of youth sports that we're living in

– Greg in Omaha writes: I am an assistant coach on my son’s 4th grade tackle football team, and we had to reschedule practice tonight because of storms in Omaha. We reset for later this week and a couple of parents chimed in that it would be heard for their kids to attend because basketball practice is starting this week. I have so many questions: Why is basketball practicing in September? Is that a winter sport? What do they do at basketball practice, hold hands and practice flopping?I’m sure these are unanswerable, but we need to go back to a time where kids could be in one sport per season and quite frankly basketball bleeding into football season is borderline blasphemous in Nebraska.

Kinsey: Why are teams holding 4th grade basketball practice in September? Because the boys will fall behind, Greg. We all know that. If you're not playing football, baseball and basketball this time of year, there's no way your 4th grader will be successful in life.

Modern parents look at social media all day long. On Instagram and Facebook, they see their friends' kids traveling across the country playing soccer and basketball. Suburban parents don't want to be seen as failures. They don't want other parents to look at them like they're the losers.

Here's my test for if your kids are falling behind: Take them to the local high school football game. If your son or daughter can find 3-4 friends to run around with at the games without you, your kids are going to be successful. If your 4th grader can disappear during the game and come back at halftime for concession money, rest easy. You're doing fine.

NATO jets shoot down drone in Lithuanian airspace as Russia grows 'increasingly reckless,' Rutte says

Two Italian Eurofighter Typhoons operating under NATO command scrambled overnight and shot down a drone over Lithuania, marking the first time a drone has been downed in the Baltic nation's airspace, officials said Tuesday.

The incident came less than a day after NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte warned that strikes close to alliance territory would drive the 32-nation bloc to increase its support for Ukraine.

The drone was destroyed near the village of Pratkūnai, about 60 miles northwest of the capital, Vilnius.

"Last night, two Italian Eurofighters deployed on NATO Air Defence mission at Siauliai, scrambled and shot down a drone over Lithuanian airspace," a NATO official told Fox News Digital. "The operation was coordinated through NATO’s Combined Air Operations Centre in Uedem, Germany. Investigations are ongoing together with national authorities."

Lithuanian officials said the drone most likely entered from neighboring Belarus and remained in the country's airspace for about 30 minutes before it was intercepted.

Lithuanian Air Force Commander Antanas Matutis said the recovered drone was "likely" carrying explosives.

Authorities are examining the wreckage of the downed drone to determine its origin and purpose.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions along NATO's eastern flank.

Speaking in Brussels on Monday, Rutte said strikes "close to NATO territory" showed Russian President Vladimir Putin's "desperation and also his desire to sow fear and terror."

"Russia is growing increasingly reckless as it continues its terrible war against Ukraine," Rutte said, while pledging to strengthen NATO defenses along its eastern flank.

In a separate incident Tuesday, Denmark said a Russian frigate fired flares toward a Danish military helicopter conducting routine surveillance over the Baltic Sea. Denmark summoned the Russian ambassador over the encounter.

Meanwhile, Russia continued drone strikes across Ukraine, killing three people in Kyiv, Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, according to Ukrainian officials.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv remained ready to support de-escalation if the U.S. could ensure Russia was prepared to stop its attacks. Ukrainian forces also struck an oil refinery in Syzran and targeted a drone production facility in Taganrog, he said.
