Trump-backed Senate candidate says 'Groceries cost too much,' calls for Iran war to 'end quickly'

Former Rep. Mike Rogers, the Republican Michigan U.S. Senate candidate backed by President Donald Trump, noted the financial strain Americans are facing, declared that the Iran war must "end quickly," and called for a diesel export embargo until the conflict concludes in a social media video.

"Michigan families are struggling with the price of everyday life. Groceries cost too much. We have to bring prices down. The war with Iran needs to end, and end quickly. When it does, energy costs will plummet. But Michigan families can’t afford to wait for that to happen," Rogers said in the video.

"I previously called for the suspension of the state and federal gas tax, 70 cents a gallon," he said.

The state's motor fuel tax, which applies to both gas and diesel, is 52.4 cents per gallon.

"Federal taxes include excise taxes of 18.3 cents per gallon on gasoline and 24.3 cents per gallon on diesel fuel, and a Leaking Underground Storage Tank fee of 0.1 cents per gallon on both fuels," according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

While Rogers does not appear to have called for a suspension of the federal diesel tax, he called for a diesel export embargo.

"Diesel fuels the trucks that bring groceries to this store. It fuels the tractors that grow our food. And when diesel costs more, it costs more to grow it, ship it, stock it, and ultimately, buy it. So until this war is over, I’m calling for a temporary embargo on American diesel exports," he said.

Trump has endorsed Rogers, including in a video posted last week on social media.

"Mike Rogers has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next U.S. Senator from Michigan — HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!" the video's caption read.

Fox News Digital reached out to the White House on Tuesday.

Rogers is running against Democratic Michigan U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.

Responding to Rogers' video, El-Sayed targeted his Republican rival in a post on X, writing, "You've spent your entire campaign supporting the war in Iran. Liar, coward, fraud."

Former Rep. Justin Amash, who finished the 2024 GOP Michigan U.S. Senate primary in a distant second place behind Rogers, wrote in a post on X, "When inveterate war hawk Mike Rogers suddenly declares, 'The war in Iran needs to end—and end quickly,' you know he’s losing—and losing badly."

Rumors that Aaron Rodgers and Mallory Edens were dating received a boost back in 2023 when an unnamed source revealed that they were "more than friends," but were keeping things "low-key."

The two had been spotted courtside a few times at Milwaukee Bucks games, but never publicly acknowledged that they were in a relationship. That was left up to the unnamed sources and the internet's imagination.

Until Monday, that is, when the Bucks heiress appeared to fire off a response on social media to the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback's recent ex-girlfriend "press tour."

While Rodgers didn't mention Edens by name like he did with a couple of other women from his past during the "press tour," she seems to be referencing the period of time he said that he was "emotionally unavailable."

Trump inks landmark Greenland deal at UNGA after months of tensions

The U.S., Denmark and Greenland formally signed President Donald Trump’s new Greenland security agreement on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly Tuesday, cementing permanent U.S. military rights on the strategically vital Arctic island after months of negotiations over Trump’s push for greater American control.

Trump, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen of Denmark and Prime Minister Jens-Frederick Nielsen of Greenland met Tuesday morning for a trilateral signing ceremony, where the three parties praised each other's defense cooperation over the past 75 years, through World War II and the Cold War.

In brief remarks, Trump praised both prime ministers for their efforts in making the deal happen, adding that, "we're going to have a tremendous relationship, a secure relationship, and we look forward to it, and we'll be working very hard and very much in conjunction with each other."

Frederiksen expounded upon the strategic importance of the alliance.

"Mr. President, ever since the Second World War, the United States has defended the free world, created prosperity and progress, peace and freedom, and I am very proud to say that in the Kingdom of Denmark, the United States has a friend that has always kept our word, an ally you have always been able to rely on, and this day represents a milestone in our long-standing cooperation," she said.

The U.S. has held extensive military rights in Greenland for decades under a 1951 defense agreement, but administration officials say the new pact goes further by allowing Washington to establish additional military installations without separate Danish or Greenlandic approval, explicitly barring adversaries from establishing a military presence and creating a mechanism to block adversarial investment in sensitive sectors.

"This deal is good for the United States, it's good for Greenland, for Denmark, for the NATO alliance, and therefore also good for Europe," Frederiksen continued. "In other words, we are strengthening our common security, boosting our common deterrence, showing our adversaries who we are, and we are doing it together."

Nielsen echoed the message.

"The world has changed a great deal since 1951," he said. "A notable change is Greenland itself at the table today, signing this agreement, and for Greenland, this is not only an agreement about us, it is a, agreement with us. It takes into account the people of Greenland, our rights, our livelihoods, and the development of our country," he said.

He explained that the agreement makes clear where Greenland stands on the world stage — staunchly in defense of the West against adversaries like Russia and China.

"The security landscape in the Arctic is changing, and we recognize the long-term security threats that you, Mr. President, have rightly spoken about," he continued. "It is for that very reason that we have insisted on engaging in a constructive dialogue. Greenland matters for North American security and for transatlantic security, and this agreement reflects that we understand our responsibility and act accordingly. And NATO matters. We believe that it's vital to keep NATO strong, also in the Arctic, where the alliance has a key role to play."

The new agreement stops short of the territorial acquisition Trump had sought for much of the year, when he repeatedly argued that U.S. ownership of Greenland was necessary for national security and pressed Denmark to relinquish control of the strategically located Arctic territory.

Those demands sparked a diplomatic standoff with Copenhagen and Nuuk, where leaders insisted Greenland was not for sale and stressed that its future could be decided only by the Greenlandic people.

DENMARK VOWS TO DEFEND GREENLAND AFTER TRUMP REITERATES US SHOULD CONTROL TERRITORY

Greenland is a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, with Copenhagen retaining authority over foreign, defense and security policy while Greenland controls many of its domestic affairs, including mineral resources.

The new agreement instead leaves sovereignty unchanged while granting Washington expanded and permanent security rights. Frederiksen has emphasized that the pact recognizes "the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom" as well as Greenlanders’ right to self-determination, even as Trump has characterized the agreement as giving the U.S. "permanent control" over Greenland’s security.

For Greenland, Tuesday’s signing is also intended to close a turbulent chapter that left residents of the sparsely populated island wondering how far Trump was prepared to go to bring it under U.S. control.

Greenland Foreign Minister Múte B. Egede said the agreement respects the government’s longstanding "red lines," including Greenlanders’ right to self-determination, while allowing Nuuk to deepen defense cooperation with the United States and other Western allies. But he acknowledged that Trump’s earlier threats had taken a toll.

"The last nearly two years have been challenging for the Greenlandic population," Egede told Greenlandic broadcaster KNR. "Many people have been uncertain. Uncertain about our future."

Some Greenlanders remain wary as they wait to see the full agreement. Residents interviewed over the weekend expressed concern about how a larger American military footprint could affect life on the island, while Greenlandic politicians have urged the public to reserve judgment until the final text is signed and released.

Frederiksen, meanwhile, sought Monday to draw a firm line between expanded U.S. military access and American sovereignty over the territory.

"We are not giving up sovereignty," Frederiksen told Danish media in New York. "You can retain sovereignty and strengthen cooperation with other countries."

For the Trump administration, however, the agreement is fundamentally a national security deal — one official argues locks in U.S. access to a strategically vital piece of the Arctic regardless of how Greenland’s political status evolves in the decades ahead.

"This historic deal is a huge win for the United States and the American people," Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Fox News Digital when the agreement was announced Friday. "Thanks to President Trump’s vision and leadership, this historic agreement permanently guarantees U.S. security interests in the Arctic at zero cost to the U.S. taxpayer."

The "zero cost" refers to the United States making no payment to Denmark or Greenland in exchange for the new rights, a U.S. official told Fox News Digital. Any future construction of military installations or deployment of additional weapons and forces would still carry the normal costs associated with expanding the U.S. military presence.

The administration sees Greenland’s location as increasingly important as Russia and China compete for influence in the Arctic and advances in long-range missiles place greater importance on the northern approaches to the continental United States.

Greenland already hosts Pituffik Space Base, the northernmost U.S. military installation, which plays a key role in missile warning, missile defense and space surveillance. Administration officials say the new agreement would allow the U.S. to expand beyond its existing footprint and establish additional military installations when needed.

The expanded access could eventually support Trump’s planned Golden Dome missile defense system, according to a U.S. official involved in the negotiations.

The administration also sought guarantees aimed at preventing China, Russia or other potential adversaries from establishing their own foothold on the island. Under the agreement, non-NATO countries would be barred from establishing military bases or maintaining troops in Greenland.

"Greenland will forever be part of the strategic defense area of North America and exclude any adversary from it and the surrounding area," Rubio told Fox News Digital. "This deal permanently and completely addresses our national security concerns in Greenland."

Those restrictions extend beyond military installations. The agreement creates a process for blocking adversarial investments in sectors the U.S. considers particularly sensitive, including telecommunications infrastructure, undersea cables, ports and critical minerals.

U.S. officials have compared the effort to Washington’s concerns over the Panama Canal, where the Trump administration has sought to reduce Chinese involvement in strategically important infrastructure that officials warn could have potential dual military and commercial uses.

The administration argues that locking those restrictions into the Greenland agreement now will prevent a similar vulnerability from developing in the Arctic.

Terry Moran says network rejected his Biden health story after he witnessed president’s frailty

Former ABC News correspondent Terry Moran revealed Monday that he tried to report on concerns about then-President Joe Biden's declining health — but was promptly shut down by senior leadership at the network.

"In late 2023, early 2024, you know, it was pretty clear that Biden was fading rather quickly," Moran told The Daily Beast podcast. "I had actually traveled with him to Japan in the spring of 2023 and kind of eyeballed him there, and I thought, 'Okay, he’s still functioning, but man, he’s frail.’ He looked like he’d blow away in a stiff wind."

Moran added that the now-83-year-old former president’s voice was merely a "whisper" by his final year in office.

"I tried to do the story of Biden’s health before anybody else did in network, because I’d seen it," Moran said. "And I got shut down very hard."

Moran said he sent an email pitch to his editors for a story about Biden’s declining health "gently and as respectfully" as possible.

"It was like, ‘You know, this is [a] legit issue for Americans to be interested in,’" Moran said. "I'm not a doctor. I'm not diagnosing. But we all know what we know when we see people fading. We all have had grandparents. We're all getting old ourselves. And so there's no doubt about it, this is a legitimate concern for the voters of America."

However, Moran said that ABC News’ leadership allegedly shot down the pitch, telling him the then-president’s health is "the medical unit’s business, not yours."

Fox News Digital reached out to ABC News for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

Moran — a veteran correspondent at the outlet — left ABC News following a social media post in which he attacked President Donald Trump and White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller. Moran called Trump and Miller "world-class haters" in the now-deleted post on X.

"We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent post — which was a clear violation of ABC News policies — we have made the decision to not renew," a spokesperson for ABC News confirmed to Fox News Digital at the time.

The topic of Biden's health and mental acuity while president received renewed attention following his departure from office, including books and reports alleging that aides concealed the extent of his decline.

Some mainstream media outlets have also drawn criticism over their coverage of questions about the then-president's mental acuity, with CNN anchor Jake Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson co-authoring "Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again," which draws on more than 200 interviews and argues that Biden's inner circle concealed signs of decline from the public.

Moran's attempt to report on Biden's health — and his account that ABC News declined the pitch — was noted by psychotherapist Jonathan Alpert, who told Fox News Digital the veteran journalist was simply doing his due diligence as a reporter.

"Moran was doing exactly what reporters are paid to do: he noticed something and wanted to ask questions about it," Alpert said. "You don’t have to diagnose Biden to report that he appeared different. We make observations about people every day without knowing the medical explanation for them. Saying ‘I see a change’ and saying ‘I know what’s causing that change’ are completely different statements."

According to Alpert, it’s "also a very human tendency to avoid information that creates a problem for us," adding that, "sometimes it’s easier not to look too closely and that seems to be exactly what ABC was doing."

Trump Jr under scrutiny from own party over Putin-linked oligarch's lavish gift

A Senate Republican is going after a new target to battle corruption: Donald Trump Jr.

Sen. John Curtis, R-Utah, is pushing the Senate Judiciary Committee, led by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, to launch investigations into Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden, a familiar target for the GOP. He wants both subpoenaed, and for both to testify before the panel over alleged foreign business dealings and corruption bolstered by their fathers’ status.

In a letter to Grassley, Curtis argued that serious questions had come up about presidential family members using the influence of their presidential patriarch to boost their business dealings.

Those questions started with Biden and his alleged use of former President Joe Biden as an access point and have continued following reports of Trump Jr.’s lavish wedding after-party on a private island provided by a Russian oligarch.

"A toaster is a wedding gift," Curtis said on X highlighting his letter. "A private-island party paid for by a Putin-connected oligarch is something else. Republicans nearly wore out the subpoena machine investigating Hunter Biden’s foreign relationships. We should not unplug it now. ‘Trust us’ was not enough then, and it is not enough now."

In the letter, Curtis contended that the concerns over Trump Jr.'s dealings "are compounded by Donald Trump Jr.’s active promotion of family-backed cryptocurrency ventures, his continued pursuit of international real estate deals involving direct meetings with foreign heads of state, and his reported investments in defense contracting."

"This pattern extends to his significant financial and advisory ties to prediction market platforms that depend on favorable federal regulatory decisions being considered by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission," he continued.

The wedding party in May, first reported by ProPublica, was allegedly bankrolled by a Russian oligarch with close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin that Trump Jr. had recently met, and who has ties to the scandal-ridden International Boxing Association that is funded, in part, by the Russian state-owned energy company Gazprom.

Trump Jr. has also been a key figure in boosting his father’s wealth. The president’s income between 2024 and 2025 ballooned by about 250% — from just over $620 million to about $2.2 billion, thanks in large part to his various holdings and ventures in crypto, which are run by his sons, according to the president’s financial disclosure forms reviewed by Fox News Digital.

Curtis noted that nearly three-quarters of Americans believed the federal government to be corrupt, and that the issue of rooting out corruption shouldn’t be a partisan matter.

"The country should not have to accept one standard for the family of a Republican president and another for the family of a Democratic president," Curtis wrote. "Nor should congressional oversight begin and end when control of the White House changes hands."

Republicans launched probe after probe into Hunter Biden’s business dealings and whether his father, former President Joe Biden, was involved. Curtis acknowledged that Biden "has denied involving his father in his business dealings," but countered that his father being in office "opened doors that otherwise may have remained closed."

The same, Curtis argued, goes for Trump Jr.

"These reports raise legitimate questions about foreign access to members of a sitting president's family and whether such relationships can create actual or perceived expectations of favorable treatment," Curtis wrote. "They also may create expectations of a returned favor that would not be in the best interests of the American people or our allies, and could even create national security vulnerabilities."

‘American Idol’ contestant’s murder case sent cops underground with high-powered magnet to find gun

Former "American Idol" contestant Caleb Flynn's missing handgun sent investigators into storm drains with a high-powered magnet, underneath vehicles and through attic insulation as they searched for the weapon prosecutors allege he used to kill his wife.

Despite the extensive search, investigators never found the gun, a Tipp City detective testified Monday during Flynn's murder trial in Ohio.

Flynn is accused of fatally shooting his wife, Ashley Flynn, inside the couple's home on Feb. 16 before staging the scene to look like an intruder had broken in. He has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder and other charges.

The trial turned deeply personal Tuesday as Ashley's mother and sister took the stand, describing the family's frantic first hours after her death and the stunning revelation that Flynn had allegedly been having an affair with a woman they knew from church.

Ashley's mother, Jill Smith, testified that her phone rang around 3 a.m. the morning her daughter was killed. She initially thought it was her husband, who was traveling, but saw Flynn's name on the screen instead.

"She's gone," Smith recalled Flynn telling her.

When Smith asked who he meant, Flynn responded, "Ashley, she's gone," before telling her, "Someone broke in and shot her," she testified.

Smith said she told Flynn she was coming to the house, but he told her police were there and she could not come. She hung up, became dizzy and lay down on the bathroom floor.

"It seemed like forever," Smith testified, saying she remained there for about five minutes before getting up and calling her husband to tell him Ashley had been killed.

Smith drove to the home anyway and said seeing the flashing police lights made the reality of what had happened sink in.

"And then I knew it was true," she testified.

Flynn later came outside shaking, Smith said. The two hugged before sitting on the front porch, where she became concerned enough about him that she asked for a blanket and suggested someone call an EMT because she feared he was going into shock.

Ashley's sister, Kayla Keyt, testified that she initially believed so strongly in Flynn's innocence that she told investigators "100%" they had arrested the wrong man.

"I trusted Caleb with everything I had in me," Keyt testified.

Keyt said she became angry when she initially heard rumors that Flynn had been having an affair because she believed they were unfairly damaging his reputation.

"I was so mad because it was tarnishing his reputation," Keyt said. "I just knew in my heart that he was completely innocent. I really believed that with all of my heart."

Keyt testified that changed when investigators told her Flynn had been having an affair with Alleigha, a woman the family knew from Christian Life Center.

Alleigha was the church's main worship leader and performed alongside Flynn, who sang with the worship team during rehearsals and weekend services, Keyt testified. She said she personally knew Alleigha casually from seeing her at church.

"I don't think I've been more shocked in my life," Keyt said.

Keyt recalled asking investigators, "Are you 100% sure?" and said she had them repeat it two or three times because she "could not even fathom" Flynn having an affair. She testified that she first learned about it during an FBI interview the morning after Flynn's arrest.

Keyt, who testified that Ashley's two daughters now live with her family, said the girls have since learned about the alleged affair and personally knew Alleigha.

"They were mostly brokenhearted for mommy," Keyt testified.

Keyt said the girls were shocked and questioned why their father did not love their mother as much as Ashley loved him.

But when the girls were told who Flynn had allegedly been involved with, Keyt recalled the older daughter's response: "I'm not surprised."

The emotional testimony Tuesday followed a day of forensic evidence and testimony about investigators' exhaustive search for the missing gun.

Detective Adam Bernard walked jurors through the lengths investigators went to as they searched for the missing firearm in the days after Ashley's death.

Police searched the backyard and nearby wooded areas before turning their attention underground, where investigators used a high-powered magnet to search storm drains along several streets.

Bernard testified that investigators removed the drain covers, lowered the magnet inside and swept connecting pipes before he physically climbed into accessible culverts with a flashlight to search areas the magnet may have missed.

They found nothing.

Investigators later had both vehicles from the Flynn home placed on lifts so they could search underneath them and other areas where something could have been hidden, Bernard testified. That search also came up empty.

Police even rented equipment to remove insulation from the attic as they continued looking for the gun.

Bernard testified that investigators also tried to trace Flynn's firearm purchase history after Flynn previously said he bought a gun in South Carolina, where he obtained his concealed-carry permit.

The detective said he called nearly two dozen gun stores in the state looking for records that could identify the make, model and serial number of a firearm purchased by Flynn.

That effort did not identify a gun tied to Flynn or Ashley.

The testimony came after a forensic pathologist walked jurors through Ashley's autopsy and described two gunshot wounds to the back of her head.

Dr. Bryan Casto testified that the entrance wounds overlapped, and the bullets traveled through Ashley's head on nearly parallel paths. One of the bullets exited her head before reentering her left arm near the elbow, where it was recovered during the autopsy.

Casto said the wounds and the paths of the bullets suggested Ashley was shot at close range, but he could not say exactly how far away the gun was when it was fired.

The pathologist determined Ashley died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head.

Earlier Monday, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) crime scene investigators walked jurors through evidence collected throughout the Flynn home as prosecutors sought to show the alleged break-in had been staged.

A BCI crime scene technician who had examined between 20 and 30 forced-entry doors testified that the damage to a side garage door did not look like the forced entries she had previously investigated.

She said the damage was on the inside of the door rather than areas she would typically expect to be damaged if someone had kicked or pried their way inside.

Flynn's defense challenged the state's conclusions on cross-examination, pointing out that investigators could not determine when some of the door damage occurred and that no blood-spatter analysis was performed because conditions at the scene were not suitable for one.

David Hammond, a senior special agent with BCI, also testified that he was not aware of evidence showing blood spatter from Ashley's shooting on Flynn's clothing.

The defense later pressed Bernard about tips received after the killing, including one from a caller who referenced an alleged "hit."

Prosecutors also laid the groundwork Monday for the massive trove of messages they say Flynn exchanged with his mistress.

Bernard testified that a search warrant served on Microsoft produced 107,655 lines of data associated with an email address belonging to Flynn.

President Donald Trump told world leaders Tuesday that the U.S. is growing stronger economically, militarily and technologically, using his United Nations address to tout America’s lead in artificial intelligence and its expanding power abroad.

"From this point forward, all of the United States documents and hopefully the world's will be changed to use the much more accurate term super as opposed to artificial. So it's super intelligence," said Trump. "Welcome to the new world of superintelligence," the president added.

"Every major new technology brings challenges, and super intelligence is no exception," said Trump. "Whoever wins super intelligence wins. That's the group that wins. And we're leading now over China by a lot and everyone else. And we're going to keep it that way."

Speaking before world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly in New York, Trump used the address to make a broader case for American strength, pointing to the war with Iran, pushing other countries to isolate Tehran economically and highlighting a deal that expands the U.S. military presence in Greenland.

After months of failed negotiations and continued fighting between the U.S. and Iran, Trump predicted Tehran would reach a deal with Washington after the November midterm elections.

"I believe we'll make a deal right after the election, because it doesn't make sense for them not to. They're waiting to see how I do in the midterm election. What they don't realize is that I'm not running. I did that already and won in a landslide," said Trump.

Trump said he inherited the Iran problem from previous administrations and argued that U.S. military action prevented Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, saying European nations should recognize that they also benefited from the move.

"I hope the Europeans realize that Iran's goal was to complete their mad dash to a nuclear bomb from behind this conventional ballistic missile shield," said Trump. "If they had succeeded, that wicked regime would have been free to spread terror and death forever, knowing that any attempt to stop them would face an arsenal."

He thanked the U.N. Security Council for its resolution condemning Iran’s attacks on commercial shipping, then called on "all nations" to join the U.S. in a "complete economic isolation of Iran."

Trump also put Cuba on notice during his speech, declaring there will be "fundamental change" in the communist country following negotiations between Rubio and Cuban officials.

Trump touted the U.S. economy as the "envy" of the world with jobs rising, poverty reaching new lows and tax cuts.

"The entire world is being lifted by the wealth, strength, spirit and momentum of a newly energized and a very powerful United States of America," said Trump.

Trump returned to drawing a clear line on putting America first, calling out the International Maritime Organization for "secretly establishing a first ever global carbon tax very expensive tax to raise international shipping costs."

"There is no global government. And while I'm president, there will be no global taxes," he said.

The administration recently announced a trilateral U.S.-Denmark-Greenland security agreement Friday.

"No U.S. adversary will ever be permitted to establish a military presence in Greenland anymore or make sensitive investments there. Without our express written approval," said Trump, adding that the U.S. will build two military bases.

Trump is set to meet with Prime Minister Frederiksen of Denmark and Prime Minister Nielsen of Greenland to sign the agreement following his remarks.

Federal appeals court orders Missouri to use congressional map rejected twice by Supreme Court

A Missouri appeals court ordered Monday that the state must use a GOP-drawn congressional map in November’s elections, reversing a series of Supreme Court decisions.

The St. Louis-based Eighth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals made the ruling Monday, just one day before absentee and mail-in ballots were slated to be sent out to voters. Military and overseas voters have already begun to receive ballots, according to the Associated Press.

"This Court holds that Missouri’s current plan to use the 2022 map in the November 2026 general election violates the Constitution. Only use of the 2025 map complies with the Constitution and federal law," Eighth Circuit Judge Stephen R. Clark wrote in a previous decision, which was upheld by the appeals panel in Monday's ruling.

The map, drawn by Missouri’s Republican-dominated state assembly in 2025, has already been rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court twice on procedural grounds, most recently earlier this month.

The new map splits Missouri’s 5th Congressional District, which encompasses the state’s largest metropolitan area centered on Kansas City, into two districts, likely eliminating one of the state’s two Democratic-leaning districts.

Despite numerous challenges, Missouri did use the 2025 map for its August primary elections. An August ruling from a state trial court ruled that a reversion to the 2022 map "would move hundreds of thousands of voters into different districts for the imminent 2026 general election compared to the districts in which they cast their ballots in the August primary elections."

The Missouri Association of County Clerks and Election Authorities already announced it won’t be using the 2025 map for November, arguing in an appeal filing that the state does not have enough time to provide new ballots, according to the AP.

MISSOURI SUPREME COURT THREATENS SECRETARY OF STATE WITH CONTEMPT AMID INTENSIFYING REDISTRICTING BATTLE

Opponents of the redrawn map, like People Not Politicians executive director Richard von Glahn, echoed that sentiment.

"Ballots have been printed, and Missourians have already voted. Thousands more will vote before this order seeks to take effect. Officials should stop wasting taxpayers’ money on pointless legal action and instead focus on administering our elections," Glahn said in a statement issued to the AP.

The appeals panel, however, argued that there is precedent to offering new ballots in such a short time period.

The panel delayed its ruling from taking place for one week, allowing opponents to appeal to the Supreme Court again.

"The Election Process, as usual, is being disturbed in America! Missouri must be able to use the map that was in effect just a couple of months ago, in the Primary. This is a Dark Day for 'Justice' in Missouri!" he wrote.

Last week, I wrote a whole story about how Florida and Auburn are renewing a century-old rivalry in modern college football.

In it, I talked all about the tradition and history between the two teams, while also alluding to some of the toxic barbs being traded by the two fanbases on social media.

While I didn't go into specifics, there was one social media post from back in August that stuck in the back of my mind throughout the entire week leading up to game day.

Oh, well this is awkward.

Now, to his credit, Fralick didn't delete his account like Poop Guy and has since responded on social media multiple times with regard to "Staplegate," but until words turn into actions and a video or picture of the event is produced, I'm not liking Auburn's chances the rest of the season and beyond.

Come to think of it, there were a lot of questionable calls/no-calls from the officiating crew during Saturday night's game in Jordan Hare, perhaps Fralick was one of the refs trying desperately to gift the Tigers a win to save his skin.

It's the only thing that would explain some of the more blatant misses in that contest.

And so, here we sit, with the fate of an entire SEC football program hanging in the balance. Waiting for a man to live up to his word.

Trump defends US interventions abroad ahead of 'big decision' on Iran: 'Settling years of unfinished business'

President Donald Trump issued a stern warning Tuesday for Iran to make a deal soon or face severe consequences for its pursuit of a nuclear weapon.

"I have a big decision to make: Will a deal be made with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than it ever was before – maybe one of the greatest in the Middle East or even the world?" Trump told the United Nations General Assembly in his morning address.

"Or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy people and countries again? Do I drive them into hell with no chance of survival and no hope of future greatness or generations?"

Trump expressed hope that a deal with the "cowards and traitors" of Iran will come "right after the election, because it doesn't make sense for them not to."

The midterm election result "doesn't even enter my mind," Trump stressed, adding "the only thing that does is that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon."

While Cindy was becoming a fashion icon, Rande established his own career in hospitality and nightlife.

He founded the Gerber Group, which operated bars, lounges and restaurants in hotels and entertainment venues around the world. His businesses helped make him a prominent figure in the hospitality industry.

Rande later joined forces with actor George Clooney and real estate developer Mike Meldman to create Casamigos tequila. The brand began as a private venture among friends before becoming a major spirits company.

Rande’s friendship and business partnership with Clooney also connected the two families. Cindy and Rande built a home next door to Clooney’s property in Los Cabos, Mexico, with the two residences designed as neighboring villas.

The families remained close in their business and social circles. Rande and Cindy later purchased an apartment in the same New York City building as George and Amal Clooney, according to the New York Post.

Cindy and Rande married in 1998 and welcomed Presley in 1999. Their daughter, Kaia, was born in 2001.

The couple has largely kept their family life private, choosing to raise their children away from the constant spotlight surrounding their careers. However, both Presley and Kaia eventually followed their mother into the fashion industry.

In a recent interview with Porter magazine, Cindy discussed the challenges of becoming an empty nester as both of her children established homes and careers of their own.

"When they become adults, all of a sudden you’re like, okay, I’ve got to back off here. It might not be the way I would do it, but you know," she said.

She described the transition as an opportunity to reconnect with Rande after nearly three decades of marriage.

"When you get married, you talk about what kind of family you want or where we’re going to live. But no one ever talks about what this phase looks like, empty nesting, because it’s so far away you can’t even imagine it," she said. "But it’s an opportunity for us to redefine our relationship."

"What do we want to do? Do we want to travel, do we not want to travel?" she continued. "We haven’t answered those questions yet, but we’re asking the questions, and it’s fun trying to figure that out together."

Cindy also expressed hope that she would one day become a grandmother.

"One thing I’m really looking forward to is being a grandmother," she said. "I’m at the age where a lot of my friends are starting to have grandkids, and even though I don’t think either one of my kids is close, I do hope I get to experience that, because it looks really fun."

Presley was born in Beverly Hills, California, in 1999. He signed with IMG Models at age 15 and began building a career in fashion.

He walked in runway shows for designers including Moschino and Dolce & Gabbana and appeared in campaigns for brands including Calvin Klein.

Presley also worked alongside Kaia, who was establishing her own career in the fashion industry. In 2018, he told People magazine that having his sister in the business made modeling "a lot less lonely."

Kaia began modeling as a child and later signed with IMG Models, the same agency that represented her brother and mother.

She quickly became one of the most recognizable young faces in fashion, walking in runway shows and appearing in campaigns for major designers and brands.

Kaia has also pursued acting. Her credits include appearances in "American Horror Story," "Bottoms," and "The Shards."

Although she has often been compared to her mom, Kaia has spoken about developing her own identity and career outside of her mother’s legacy.

Cindy has said she was proud of the relationship between her two children.

"Nothing makes, I think, a parent prouder than when your kids like each other and love each other," she said during a People magazine interview.

Presley was known to speak publicly about his mental-health and addiction struggles. Although Cindy and Rande generally kept those issues private, they publicly supported him when he chose to discuss his experiences.

In March, Presley shared a post about undergoing an "ibogaine flood dose" at a wellness clinic in Cancún, Mexico.

Cindy commented on the post, writing, "You are a warrior! Walked thru the fire to find yourself! So proud!"

Rande also shared a message of support.

"I’m so proud of you and your courage," he wrote. "Facing what’s hard takes real strength, and watching you find your way back to yourself is everything. I love you so much."

A source told Page Six that what was seen online wasn't just an act.

"They were so close," a source told the outlet. "What you saw online and in the press wasn’t just for that purpose. They were a tight-knit family and Kaia and Presley were more than just siblings. Cindy has to be beyond gutted."

Kaia praised her brother’s willingness to be honest about his struggles in a Vogue cover story published in August, about a month before his death.

"My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn’t share anything — and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, ‘I’m gonna be very human for everyone,’" Kaia said. "There’s only so much you can hide from the world."

She also described the impact of his addiction on the entire family.

"When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone," Kaia said.

A source told People magazine that Cindy and Rande were never "two absent Hollywood parents."

"Cindy and Rande could not have been more supportive of Presley," the source said. "They were always there for him and did everything they could to help him. The family has always been incredibly close, and Presley was deeply loved."

The Los Angeles Rams won their first game of the season Monday night and that allows coach Sean McVay to stop beating himself up about the season-opening loss in Australia.

McVay, you should know, had been stewing about that loss to the San Francisco 49ers abroad for going on two weeks leading up to Monday night's game. He took it personally, and blamed himself, maybe because he recognized he was part of the problem.

McVay finally confessed to that after beating the New York Giants in a game his team showed much more energy and better execution.

"We have the right people," McVay said. "Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn. Sometimes you have a dumbass coach that makes travel plans that put you in a bad spot.

There it is: The haunting trip to Australia, with its unorthodox travel planning, is now in the rearview mirror. The Rams see themselves back on course as a Super Bowl contender.

It wasn't, excuse the metaphor, an easy road to recovery because McVay took a while to let go of the Australia experience.

He criticized himself afterward for days. He didn't like the way he coached and said, "I didn't do a good enough job getting us ready to go."

And days later, McVay's simmering frustration boiled over when he turned his ire on the country where the game was played.

"We're not playing in Australia ever again, I hope," McVay told reporters. "Not because it wasn't a great atmosphere; that'll get taken out of context."

The context is McVay was unhappy with the Rams' travel schedule. And he was unhappy with himself because he had a hand in setting that schedule and definitely was responsible for approving it.

The Rams flew 16 hours to Australia and played the 49ers the following day. The team flew overnight out of Los Angeles on Tuesday and landed in Melbourne on Thursday morning local time.

The game was played Friday morning local time.

That result remains etched in the standings but is finally blurred from McVay's mind. The anger, the criticism, and the frustration of missing an opportunity have faded after a victory over the Giants.

The players are happy about that. And they're happy to be home.

"I thought our guys came out and played great," quarterback Matthew Stafford said. "We played with a bunch of passion, energy, excited to be back home in SoFi."

Jeffries lashes out after House Dem bolsters Republican candidate on leader's home turf

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., is harshly dismissing a fellow Democrat who publicly undermined his quest to win the majority in Congress — on the left-wing leader's own home turf.

Jeffries hit back at Rep. Jared Golden, D-Maine, in a statement to Fox News Digital on Tuesday after Golden endorsed Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., a moderate Republican, for re-election in November.

"Mike Lawler is a partisan hack and Trump sycophant who Cait Conley will defeat in November. In desperation, he is peddling an 11th-hour endorsement from a retiring congressmember who represents an out-of-town district more than 400 miles away," Jeffries said.

"This smoke-and-mirrors ploy will do nothing to change the outcome of the race. The election will be decided by the people of Westchester and the lower Hudson Valley."

Jeffries claimed Lawler had "never shown bipartisan courage when it matters" while lauding his Democrat opponent as a "combat veteran and patriot."

"Lawler holds one of just three Republican seats in the country that Kamala Harris carried in 2024. Representing districts like ours forces you to work for people who disagree with you, and it teaches you that those people are not your enemies. They are your neighbors."

He pointed out that the nonpartisan Lugar Bipartisanship Index ranked Lawler the fourth-most bipartisan member of Congress in its most recent analysis.

The Congress we get is the one we elect, and the country needs fewer members who treat the job as a stage and more who treat it as work. In New York's Hudson Valley this fall, that is the choice on the ballot," Golden wrote.

Lawler thanked Golden for the endorsement in his own public statement.

"While we are from different parties and different states, Jared and I have worked during our time together in the House to find common ground on issues that matter both to us and our constituents," he wrote on X. "We share a firm belief that what’s best for the people should come before one’s party, and that if more members on both sides of the aisle took that approach more often, the country would be better off for it."

Lawler is facing long odds of winning a third term in Congress, with most projections favoring Democrats in his district in the New York City suburbs.

But Lawler has defied political gravity before, including most recently in November 2024 when his victory split the ticket with ex-Vice President Kamala Harris.

Golden, who is retiring at the end of this year, is known for breaking from his party on a variety of issues. He was one of the only Democrats to praise President Donald Trump's tariff efforts.

He also recently made headlines for publicly defying Jeffries by voting with Republicans on a procedural measure called a "rule vote" alongside fellow moderate Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Wash.

While Republican lawmakers have weaponized rule votes in recent years to extract promises from House GOP leaders, it was almost unheard of for Democrats to defy their leaders like that on the other side of the aisle.

Former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt described President Donald Trump’s approach to high-stakes diplomacy in a new interview Tuesday, recounting tense phone calls with foreign adversaries and a lunch with former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Speaking on the "Hang Out with Sean Hannity" podcast, Leavitt recalled how Trump spoke bluntly with foreign leaders during calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as with allies like Starmer.

"I sat in on a lunch with the president and Starmer. And we're sitting around the table, and we're all enjoying lunch. And we were in this beautiful place. And the president just starts ripping into him for his policies," Leavitt said.

In conversations with Putin and Xi, Leavitt described "tense" phone calls in which she witnessed the president being "very straightforward." "The president was very honest about the fentanyl coming into the country and the precursors to the fentanyl that were manufactured in China. And he brought that up as a sticking point and said, ‘You have to do something about that,’" Leavitt said of Trump's meeting with Xi in South Korea.

Nolan Wells' friends cleared by grand jury as their lawyers vow to hold online accusers accountable

After a Mississippi grand jury found that Nolan Wells' death was "consistent with drowning" and turned up no evidence of a crime or racial motive, an attorney for one of the men wrongly targeted online said his client intends to hold the accusers accountable.

Wells, 19, disappeared July 4 after taking a boat trip to Horn Island, a barrier island along Mississippi's Gulf Coast, with a group of friends. Search crews combed the area for two days until a National Park Service ranger discovered his remains at the island's northwestern tip on July 6.

Months later, a Jackson County, Mississippi, grand jury returned a "no true bill" in Wells' death investigation, meaning no indictment or charges will be filed.

"The Grand Jury finds that the position of, the condition of, time of discovery, and location of Mr. Wells' remains is consistent with drowning," the grand jury wrote.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Russell Latino, who represents Bart Edmiston and his family, said: "This story involves two tragedies.

"The death of Nolan Wells is a tragedy. But to anyone who knew the actual facts, not reckless garbage spewed on the internet, the result of the process was never in doubt. The Edmiston family looks forward to bringing accountability to those who exploited tragedy to divide and injure. They continue to pray for healing, for the family of Nolan and for their precious community."

Edmiston and other friends of Wells' were subjected to months of online rumors and speculation that they were somehow criminally responsible for the then-18-year-old's death. The grand jury and Jackson County District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath both concluded those allegations were baseless.

Edward Andrew Paltzik, who represents three of Wells' friends, had a pointed message for attorney Ben Crump.

"@AttorneyCrump NO TRUE BILL. You should apologize immediately to completely innocent young men Warren Hudson, Jax Pitalo, and Morgan Seymour. You have some serious explaining to do!" Paltzik said.

He said he's also sent several legal notices to social media influencers and media figures on behalf of three men he represents.

In a video statement Monday, Jackson County District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath said there was "absolutely no evidence" that Wells' death was due to his race.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Crump for comment.

"The narrative that three White boys and a Black boy went to an island and only three White friends returned spread like wildfire. This was false," McIlrath said. "There is absolutely no evidence to support the allegations that Nolan's disappearance and death were racially motivated."

"Nolan's friends loved Nolan and Nolan loved them. Nolan chose to stay on the island that day, and there is not a scintilla of evidence to contradict that," she said.

McIlrath also sharply criticized attorney Ben Crump's team, which she said knew early on that the death wasn't racially motivated.

"The family, the Crump team, and anyone close to Nolan knew that his disappearance and death were not the result of racial hate or violence," she said. "What I am suggesting is that the Crump team knew better but did not do better."

According to the district attorney, the family's legal team advised her office in August that it had uncovered no evidence a crime was committed against Wells.

"On August 13th, 2026, after the Crump team conducted and released the results of its independent autopsy and after receiving hundreds of tips, they advised my office that they had no evidence of a crime being committed against Nolan Wells," she said.

Lawyers representing Wells' family disputed the decision in a statement to Fox News Digital. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump said the state was closing the case before the truth had been established, citing bruising on the back of Wells' head and an independent autopsy that he said documented blunt force injuries to Wells' head and back. Crump said neither the family nor the state has determined how Wells died, and he urged the Justice Department to open an investigation if Mississippi declines to do so.

"Today, the State of Mississippi is attempting to close the chapter on Nolan Wells’ death without getting to the truth," Crump said. "We are releasing the final independent autopsy report in its entirety, so everyone can read it for themselves. This grand jury result leaves us with more questions than answers. Nolan’s family will not rest until we know what happened to him, and neither will we."

Both the Mississippi Chief Medical Examiner and the family's pathologist, Dr. Roger Mitchell, who performed a second autopsy for the Wells family agreed that while the cause of death is undetermined, "drowning is a diagnosis of exclusion." That means the conclusion was reached by ruling out other causes rather than by direct evidence of drowning.

The grand jury didn't find any evidence suggesting a crime occurred, or that Wells' death was motivated by race, and also took direct aim at the theories circulating on social media about the people on the boats.

"The Grand Jury finds no credible evidence to support the public allegations that any persons who rode to or from Horn Island on July 4, 2026, on the Triton, the Palm Beach, or the Tideline engaged in any criminal conduct related to the death of Mr. Wells," the grand jury wrote. "The allegations against the occupants of the Triton, the Palm Beach, and the Tideline are not based in truth, and are solely the result of public clamor and private malice."

Among the many questions surrounding Wells' death was an apparent injury to the back of his head, where bruising was found. A witness testified that he saw Wells slip off a boat, but the grand jury said it could not confirm the fall caused the bruising.

"A witness testified under oath that he saw Mr. Wells slip awkwardly off the side of a boat around the time of 3:30 p.m. on July 4, 2026, but could not say whether Mr. Wells struck his head during the fall. The witness testified that Mr. Wells continued to socialize after the fall and did not appear injured," the grand jury report said.

The 23 grand jurors who heard the case included 12 White people, five African Americans, two Hispanics, two Native Americans, one Asian and one who identified as "other."

Two franchise quarterbacks suffered lower-body injuries in Week 2. One went down with a reported MCL injury to his left knee that could result in him being sidelined for weeks, while the other suffered what is being described as a Grade 1 hamstring strain and, as of this writing, has yet to be ruled out for his team's Week 3 contest.

If you had to guess which of the two quarterbacks walked off the field and into the locker room on his own power, you'd go with the second quarterback. If you were forced to pick which of the two was carted off the field and sobbed with a towel over his head, you'd understandably go with quarterback number one.

And you'd be wrong.

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart took an awkward, mid-air hit during the first quarter of his team's eventual loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night and did not return to the game. His left knee was forced into a position that knees are not meant to be in, and it was later reported that he was dealing with an issue with his MCL.

While early reports indicate that Dart and the Giants have avoided a worst-case scenario with the knee injury, it was a gruesome sequence, but it didn't stop the second-year signal caller from walking off the turf with a slight limp.

A quarterback showing his toughness and walking away after a painful injury is a common occurrence, but given what transpired with Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams less than 24 hours earlier, Dart walking off the field created quite the juxtaposition.

Williams went down with a non-contact injury during the fourth quarter of the Bears' loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon, and based on his reaction in real time, it was very easy to assume he had suffered a very serious injury.

Williams reached back and grabbed his left leg as he slid to the turf, a typical sign of an Achilles injury, and then rolled around on the field, screaming in pain.

The former USC star was then helped onto the back of a medical cart to be taken off the field. As soon as it was revealed that Williams had suffered what was more or less just a pulled hamstring, the emotional scene instantly turned into an all-time great sports meme with folks across social media ripping into the face of the Bears franchise.

Clearly, Williams was both in serious pain and under the assumption that he had suffered an injury that could derail the rest of his season.

While that is thankfully not the case, his overly dramatic exit from the game has opened him up to fair criticism.

Hayden Panettiere cause of death revealed

Hayden Panettiere died from the toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol and quetiapine, according to the Greenville County Coroner's Office. The manner of death was ruled an accident.

"On August 16, 2026, at approximately 1:51 PM, a 911 call was received regarding a reported cardiac arrest at 701 Easley Bridge Road in Greenville," the Greenville County Coroner's Office said in a release obtained by Fox News Digital. "First responders and Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene and located a female in cardiac arrest. EMS personnel initiated advanced cardiac life support measures; however, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the individual was pronounced deceased at 2:32 PM."

"The Greenville County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and initiated a parallel investigation with the Greenville City Police Department. The decedent has been identified as Hayden Leslie Panettiere, 36, of California. Panettiere was found unresponsive inside the residence, where she had been temporarily staying.

"An autopsy was completed by a Board Certified Forensic Pathologist. At autopsy no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death."

"The cause of death has been ruled as toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, Alprazolam, Methocarbamol, and Quetiapine. The manner of death has been ruled accident."

Panettiere was found dead inside a Greenville residence on Aug. 16. She was 36.

The late star's boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, and his brother, Zach, called 911 after finding the actress unresponsive, according to a police report obtained by Fox News Digital. Hickerson later gave authorities a bag containing medication Panettiere had been taking, according to the report.

The police report said Zach appeared "very emotional" while paramedics worked to revive Panettiere. Meanwhile, Hickerson did not become emotional until the "Ice Princess" star was declared dead, according to the report..

Hickerson traveled with the "Remember the Titans" actress from Los Angeles the day before she was found unresponsive, according to TMZ. The two broke up briefly in 2022, but rekindled their romance the following year. Hickerson's brother confirmed to police Brian was in a relationship with the actress at the time of Panettiere's death.

Fox News learned the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) had also been contacted and was assisting with the investigation.

Panettiere's representatives previously condemned speculation surrounding the star's final hours and accused outsiders of turning her death into an opportunity to "fuel gossip."

"Many people who were not close to Hayden are using her death as an opportunity to fuel gossip and speculation about a situation they knew very little about," Panettiere's rep said in a statement shared with US Weekly. "It is deeply disrespectful to her memory and to those who knew and loved her and are actively grieving this tremendous loss."

"There is much more to this story than what is currently being discussed publicly, and those closest to Hayden are actively cooperating with the ongoing investigation to help ensure that the truth comes to light and that justice is properly served," the statement concluded.

Chicago's half-empty schools reveal a crisis city leaders refuse to confront

On the West Side of Chicago, Frederick Douglass Academy had a grand total of 27 students inside a building that was built for 1,000 students. That is only 2% of the building's capacity. The school was one of 13 Chicago schools that had fewer than 100 students. Across the city, 35% of schools are less than half full. The Chicago Public Schools system has lost more than 77,000 students since 2010.

So where are all the students disappearing to? The answer is an indictment of the city and its public school sector.

It is true that many families have left the city because of its rising cost of living. I know many Black families who have moved out, and their numbers are in the tens of thousands. It is also true that the birth rate in Chicago has dropped by nearly 50% in less than 20 years. It is not surprising that many graduates choose to leave the city instead of staying and starting families here.

But these are not the only reasons why so many public schools are suffering from abysmal enrollment numbers.

The children who live on the West Side and South Side did not all disappear. They chose not to go to their neighborhood public high schools. I cannot blame them. Students stuck in these schools tell me they can't learn because the teachers cannot control the rowdier kids. There's a lack of discipline, and rules are hardly enforced. Some students even tell me that some teachers don't even try and just pass the kids. So kids know that if they challenge the teachers and make trouble, they will often give up and award them a passing grade.

The students and parents hear all of these stories, and that plays a major role in why they are choosing to enroll in magnet schools, charter schools, parochial schools, and even private schools. CPS still enrolls most of the city's remaining kids, but its share slipped from about 75% to 71%. That is roughly 18,000 children who live in Chicago and chose something else. Parents in Kids First workshops said school quality is one of the reasons families stay or go.

And they are right to do so.

If we look more closely at the statistics, it is easy to see why so many families have opted out of public schools, especially Black families. In the same district, Black students in selective enrollment high schools are three times more likely to read at grade level than Black students in traditional public schools. When it comes to math, the numbers are even starker. Black students are five times more likely to be proficient in math in selective enrollment schools than their peers in public schools. Parents are seeing the data, and they're voting with their feet.

It doesn't help that the Chicago Teachers Union has made a mockery of itself. The head of the union doesn't even send her own children to the public schools that she oversees. The CTU has continued to choose politics over its teachers and schools time after time. In 2025, CTU spent a record $4.2 million on politics and lobbying while spending less than 18% of its total spending on representing teachers. It poured millions into electing Mayor Brandon Johnson, a former CTU organizer. It then used that alliance to freeze school closings and to fight school-choice initiatives that have been a boon to many poor parents.

If it couldn't get worse than that, CTU also helped kill Illinois' Invest in Kids scholarships because they allowed kids to escape the public schools. Not only that, CTU has made the national news several times for using "days of action" to turn kids into activists for whatever left-wing cause is in vogue at the moment. So why would CTU be shocked when families see all of this political activity and instead choose to get the best education for their children?

POWERFUL TEACHERS' UNIONS SHARE STRIKING LINK WITH STATES STRUGGLING TO TEACH KIDS TO READ

I want to be clear that I'm not here to slander teachers. Many of them are excellent, but they will tell you, as they have told me, that they are trapped in a system that does not allow them to teach to the fullest of their abilities. One told me, "I want to teach algebra, and I want to experience that joy when I see a child struggling at the beginning of the year only to become masterful by the end of the year — I don't want to teach activism."

That is why the buildings are empty. The people who run these buildings are largely the problem.

They have created schools that hold little appeal to families. This is America, a capitalist society, where people will always choose what is best for them. No parent wants to drive that extra hour or pay extra fees or tuition, but they will do so for their child's education. If the public schools want to bring these students back, then they have to buck the existing leadership.

They have to return to the original purpose of the public schools: to develop young minds into educated, upstanding citizens. The empty buildings are a symbol of how far we have strayed from that original purpose.

Dem reactions within moments of Austin ICE shooting spark viral outrage locally, online: 'Disqualifying'

Democrats in Austin, Texas, are facing criticism both online and from a retired cop who spoke to Fox News Digital after rushing to attack Immigration and Customs Enforcement moments after a suspected illegal immigrant was shot before any investigation had taken place.

An ICE officer shot a man in Austin on Sunday and almost immediately, before basic facts had been established in the case, and before the man had been identified as Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, elected Democrats in Austin were speaking out against ICE, including Rep. Greg Casar, Councilman Mike Siegel, and Mayor Kirk Watson.

"It is awful that this war has come to our doorstep," Casar, a member of the progressive Squad caucus, said during a Sunday press conference in a clip that was highlighted by the White House Rapid Response account on X.

"And as the mayor said, unfortunately it is not a surprise. Just a few weeks ago as we saw the ICE surge come to Austin, especially to north central Austin, I and others said that ICE needed to leave before someone was shot like in Minneapolis or like in Corpus Christi or like in Chicago, and that day is here and so I think the message remains that for Austin to be safe, ICE should end its surge here in our community."

BRANDON GILL UNLOADS ON DEMOCRATS OVER ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT CHARGED WITH RAPING TEEN: 'COLLATERAL DAMAGE'

Casar and his fellow Democrats quickly sparked viral social media criticism from conservatives accusing the left of selective outrage when it comes to crime, particularly illegal immigrant crime.

"Where was the outcry from this guy last fall when an illegal alien in Texas used a machete to behead a man in front of his spouse and child?" Tricia McLaughlin, former assistant secretary of Homeland Security for public affairs, posted on X. "The perpetrator reportedly kicked the head of the victim ‘around like a soccer ball.’ "

"There it is," Townhall’s Amy Curtis posted on X. "The Democrats want no immigration laws. They want to destroy this nation. Remember this in November."

"This sort of rhetoric should be disqualifying for any elected official," Texas Republican State Rep. Andy Hopper posted on X. "You cannot faithfully take the oath of office and be for open borders. "

Dennis Farris, president of the Austin Police Retired Officers Association, told Fox News Digital he expects that kind of rhetoric from Casar and Siegel but was surprised to hear Mayor Watson rush to place blame on ICE both in the press conference and on social media.

"With Casar, it didn't surprise me, that’s Greg Casar, he's a bomb thrower, he's been a bomb thrower and he's been a reactionary known for shooting his mouth off before he has all the facts," Farris said. "He did that when he was on the city council. He did it in the Mike Ramos shooting. That’s just Greg Casar, He's known for his theatrics."

"I've known the mayor a long time, consider the mayor a friend, I was really shocked at how visceral his reaction was, he's usually a lot more measured," Farris said. "I can understand being upset but the way he reacted, I think, raised the temperature in Austin because he is the one that he is, the leader, right? He is the city leader. He's the mayor. He's the one supposed to be trying to keep things calm and I think his reaction yesterday made it worse."

Watson’s post was "ratioed" on social media, yielding far more negative comments and quote tweets than positive ones, with locals and internet users accusing him of fanning the flames before the facts were known.

"Honestly shocking Mayor @KirkPWatson would issue this sort of statement knowing full well the investigation has barely started, Hope he’s not about to make an Adler-esque 2nd term turn," prominent Austin attorney Adam Loewy posted on X, referencing former Austin Mayor Steve Adler who presided over the 2020 George Floyd rioting in the city.

The issue regarding the deportation order is that he moved and changed addresses. There was a notice for a hearing sent to the wrong address that he missed, which is VERY common. We are working on that. He will be released from detention, his immigration matter will be resolved, and the agencies will be held accountable."
