UK asylum seekers could have to pay government $13K before applying for settlement

People granted asylum in Britain could have to repay the government about £10,000, roughly more than $13,000, for accommodation and basic living support before they can become eligible to apply for settlement, officials announced on Monday.

This comes as immigration has become one of the most important issues in British politics, consistently ranking among voters' top concerns in polling.

Under the proposed rules, the government says repayments would be means-tested and limited to adults above an income threshold. Officials say safeguards would be included to prevent people from being pushed into extreme poverty, though key details of the threshold and enforcement mechanism have not yet been published.

The rules would not be applied retrospectively and children would not be subject to the payments.

"Receiving asylum support is a right, but it is also a responsibility," Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said. "Once people can contribute and repay the generosity of the British people, we expect them to do so."

Mahmood explained that her latest reforms aim to reduce the burden on taxpayers' wallets.

The Home Office also said over the weekend that it aims to remove 45,000 more people with no legal right to remain and foreign criminals within the next decade, in addition to the tens of thousands already being removed on a yearly basis.

The center-left Labour Party has increased efforts to curb both legal and illegal immigration as it seeks to counter the rising popularity of Nigel Farage's Reform UK party, which has vowed to deport up to 600,000 asylum seekers and other people whose claims or appeals have failed.

"Mass migration has changed this country, certainly in many of our cities, literally beyond recognition," Farage told Fox News Digital last week. "We’ve not been selective about who’s been able to come into the country. That is a major contributory factor."

Refugee advocates and migration researchers have criticized the proposal, arguing it could punish people who fled persecution and questioning whether many refugees would earn enough to repay the proposed sum. An emotional night at Fenway Park saw Red Sox star Willson Contreras go from tears over the devastation in Venezuela to a controversial ejection Monday during the Red Sox's 6-3 win over the Nationals.

Contreras, whose home country was rocked by earthquakes Wednesday, crushed a 421-foot, three-run homer off Nationals right-hander Miles Mikolas into the left-center field seats in the first inning.

As Contreras rounded the bases, he flipped his bat, slapped the top of his helmet with both hands and shouted, "Venezuela," toward the Red Sox dugout.

In the dugout, Contreras broke down as teammates and coaches embraced him.

The decision was lambasted by the NESN broadcast, where Red Sox analyst Will Middlebrooks cursed the ejection during the telecast.

"Are you kidding me? How soft are we getting?" Middlebrooks said, calling the ejection an "absolute joke" and "embarrassing to the game."

"The game needs the best players on the field. This is an entertainment business. It is for the fans. What are you doing? You are gonna throw a guy out of the game for that?"

Contreras said before Monday's game: "It is really sad to live through this. It is really hard to separate or fake that we are good just because we have to work."

"We are professionals. We have to show up and work. But it is really tough when you know what is going on in Venezuela ... trying to perform, and at the same time trying to seek ways to help."

Boston held on for the 6-3 victory behind Contreras' three-run homer and a home run from Caleb Durbin, but his controversial ejection was the focus of the game.

PBS CEO recounts dramatic year for organzation, calls legal battle with Trump 'the most sobering moment'

ASPEN, COLORADO — PBS CEO Paula Kerger recounted the "extraordinary" year her organization has had after President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans revoked its federal funding.

Appearing Sunday at the Aspen Institute's Ideas Festival, Kerger was asked to summarize the dramatic saga PBS underwent, which she referred to as a "year of letters," the first in January 2025 from Federal Communications Committee (FCC) Chair Brendan Carr, who was probing PBS' corporate partnerships, followed by a letter that March from then-Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., who summoned her and NPR CEO Katherine Maher to testify before the DOGE Committee's hearing, which she noted was titled "Anti-American Airwaves."

"I repeat this all the time because of all the things in the last year, that was the most offensive," Kerger told the Aspen audience.

She then noted the letter she received from Trump on his executive order withholding federal funding from PBS and NPR.

"The most sobering moment of the year, maybe even my life, was signing the lawsuit against the president," Kerger said. "I did feel the gravity of the moment. I mean, never in my life did I think that I would be signing a lawsuit against the President of the United States."

The effects of the pulled funding were immediate, pointing to the scrambled effort to fund its new PBS Kids show "Phoebe and Jay" and cancelling an initiative to provide American Sign Language for children's programming.

"Our stations were counting on that money. Eighty percent of the money that comes from the federal government actually doesn't go to me or to NPR, it goes to the stations. That's where that money goes," Kerger said, before citing "50%" of the budget at PBS-affiliated station like in Cookeville, Tennessee came from federal funding.

"We've laid off 100 people. I mean, we've had very deep cuts," she later revealed.

Kerger said she turned to famed documentarian Ken Burns to help sway votes in the Senate after a bill to defund public media passed in the GOP-controlled House of Representatives.

"I am very hesitant to ask someone like him to wade in on something like this because we try to protect our creative talent, but I was desperate at the end and I knew we were really, really close," Kerger said of Burns, who was sitting beside her at the Ideas Festival. "He made calls and we had the votes, and then there was a pause for about an hour and a half and my colleague Jeremy... he and I are talking and he said, 'I think we've got it. I think he pulled it out.' And then we didn't. And we lost by one vote."

Despite the turmoil she revisited, Kerger then shared the "good part of the story," which was the creating of a "runway" for stations who heavily relied on federal money with a fundraising effort dubbed the Bridge Fund, hoping it will provide them at least two years of funding. She also boasted the addition of "a million new members of Public Broadcasting Stations" since funding was pulled last July, adding that the majority of them contribute every month.

"This has not solved our problem, So I can say proudly we're still here... but it's up to all of us to make sure if this is something worth preserving that we're leaned in together," Berger added.

A CBS News Chicago reporter and photographer were attacked Monday afternoon near the Adler Planetarium while preparing for a live report, according to the station and Chicago police.

The incident happened around 4:25 p.m. in the 900 block of East Solidarity Drive, near Adler Planetarium, Chicago Police told Fox News Digital..

Multiple men arrived in a truck before they allegedly exited the vehicle and rushed at the victims as they shouted racial slurs at one of the journalists, according to police.

The men ordered a dog to attack the pair of journalists. But when the dog did not attack, the suspects began damaging their equipment, police said.

The two journalists escaped from the incident unharmed.

"When the dog did not attack, the male offender became irate and damaged the victim's property by throwing it on the ground. All the offenders re-entered the white truck and fled the scene in an unknown direction. There are no injuries reported."

Police then arrested multiple people in Brighton Park following a police chase, the outlet reported, adding that the incident involved a gun being pointed at another person.

"We are shocked and horrified by this crime, and we are grateful that our journalists are safe," a spokesperson for CBS said in a statement.

The incident remains under investigation.

Helicopter reports drone encounter near JFK hours after JetBlue's possible drone strike

A helicopter reported a possible drone encounter near John F. Kennedy International Airport Monday afternoon, marking the second such incident at the airport in a single day.

"A helicopter pilot flying near John F. Kennedy International Airport reported a remote-control airplane flew close to their aircraft," the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said.

The sighting came just hours after a separate incident in which a JetBlue pilot reported a possible drone strike while the plane was approaching JFK for landing.

JFK air traffic control issued a warning to nearby pilots of an unauthorized unmanned aircraft system (UAS) operating in protected airspace, according to ATIS.guru, which collects live digital messages from airports around the world.

According to the warning, a "red and white" remote-controlled airplane was spotted flying at roughly 4:05 p.m. local time.

It was observed at an altitude of 500 feet, placing it within the typical flight path of low-flying commercial aircraft approaching the airport, according to the ATIS warning.

The sighting was also reported about 1 mile from the Canarsie (CRI) navigation beacon, a key waypoint used by aircraft lining up to land at JFK.

It is unclear whether the two cases are related.

The FAA notified local authorities about the report.

Earlier Monday morning, a JetBlue flight struck a drone at approximately 3,000 feet roughly 10 miles from JFK, the FAA said.

The flight landed without incident, and a post-flight inspection did not reveal any damage to the aircraft, JetBlue said.

Colorado Democratic Socialist candidate Melat Kiros recently argued how the 9/11 and 10/7 terror attacks were "inevitable" after U.S. and Israeli military actions in the Middle East.

In an interview with Colorado’s Next 9News on June 22, Kiros was asked about comments she made while appearing on far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker's show where she labeled the Hamas terror attack against Israel as "an inevitable consequence of apartheid, of occupation, decades of occupation."

Kiros pushed back on the idea that Israel "had it coming" but insisted that, from the context of the video, it was important to understand the "conditions" that led to the terror attack.

9News journalist Kyle Clark followed by asking if she believed the 9/11 terror attacks were also an "inevitable consequence" based on its foreign policy.

Before her campaign, Kiros was fired from her position at the Sidley Austin law firm in 2023 after publishing an open letter criticizing law firms, including her own, that called for action against antisemitism on college campuses.

If confirmed, Sonderling would formally assume the Cabinet post after leading the Labor Department on an acting basis since former Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer's departure in April. He would continue overseeing the department's efforts to enforce federal labor laws, administer workforce programs and implement the administration's employment agenda.

The Labor Department's inspector general is investigating the allegations, which also include claims that Chavez-DeRemer's husband made unwanted advances toward department officials and that family members routinely sent personal requests to young staffers, according to previous Fox News Digital reporting.

In the months leading up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the expectation from many European soccer fans and left-wing media pundits was that the tournament would be a disaster.

Fans from around the world wouldn't want to visit the United States under President Donald Trump, they said. The stadiums in the US supposedly lacked the atmosphere of European venues, they argued. And logistics would be a nightmare, somehow, also because of Trump. Or something.

Fast forward to the late-June, the group stage has been completed, and the tournament has been widely acknowledged as an unmitigated success.

Fanbases from around the world, like Scotland and Norway, have taken over baseball games. Fans from The Netherlands have paraded down city streets. One German fan became an internet sensation after traveling around the South, enjoying American small town hospitality. He wound up being invited backstage to meet Ella Langley at a recent concert. England fans met with President Trump.

Turns out, fans still came to visit the US after all.

In fact, through just the group stage games, FIFA recently announced that the 2026 World Cup has already obliterated the previous attendance record. More than 4.6 million fans have gone to a game in the US, Mexico and Canada, exceeding the previous record of 3.5 million. Which was also set when the US hosted in 1994.

By any measure, this year's tournament has been a tremendous success. And Democrats are extremely unhappy about it.

Politico reported recently that the left has been forced to "grapple uncomfortably" with how well the World Cup has gone.

"I think that there was a little bit of like liberal wishcasting that this would maybe be a disaster to sort of stick it to Trump," Rob Flaherty, digital Democratic strategist, told Politico. "It hasn't yet been."

Incredible. Democrats are so broken by politics they actually specifically hoped that the tournament would be a failure in order to criticize Donald Trump. Now that it hasn't been, they're devastated.

Rep. Brendan Boyle, a Democrat from Philadelphia, admitted the tournament had been a "remarkable success," and a "great moment. He also told Politico, "I’m excited about the U.S. hosting the World Cup, how well that it has gone, how receptive these foreign fan bases have been to finding out more about the United States and interacting with ordinary Americans."

But even admitting that, he couldn't bring himself to acknowledge the Trump administration had helped ensure this outcome.

"Let me be clear, my comments are irrespective of the Trump administration," he continued. "Frankly, his immigration policies for the last year and a half did scare some people off from coming to the United States."

Sure. Which is why venue after venue has been full of fans from around the world and social media is overrun with Europeans, fans from Japan, and South America talking about how much they've enjoyed visiting the country and meeting the people.

But this is the modern left; incapable of accepting when Trump does something well. Unhappy when things aren't a "disaster," hopeful they can pin that disaster on the right. Unfortunately for them, the World Cup has been outstanding. And there's weeks worth of games left.

'Parcel bomb' explodes in Monaco residential area, leaving 2 critically injured: reports

Police in Monaco and France were reportedly searching Monday night for a man suspected of detonating a makeshift explosive device that injured several people, including two critically.

The explosion happened shortly before 9 p.m. local time in the center of Monaco, near the entrance of a residential building. Surveillance video appeared to show a man leaving a backpack at the scene moments before the blast, Reuters reported, citing French newspaper Le Figaro.

Christophe Mirmand, Monaco’s minister of state, told BFM TV that two of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries.

San Francisco archdiocese agrees to $395M settlement with 530 clergy abuse survivors

The Archdiocese of San Francisco has agreed to pay $395 million to settle more than 500 lawsuits alleging child sexual abuse by clergy and church officials, marking one of the largest abuse settlements in California and potentially ending a years-long bankruptcy battle.

The proposed settlement covers approximately 530 survivors and requires Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone to personally write an apology letter to each survivor.

It also mandates sweeping child protection and transparency reforms, including the publication of a list of clergy accused of abuse and a ban on confidentiality agreements that silence survivors. The settlement remains subject to approval by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

80% OF CLAIMS IN AMERICA'S LARGEST SEXUAL ABUSE SETTLEMENT IN HISTORY COULD BE FRAUDULENT, LA DA SAYS

"We believe this proposal provides a path toward fair compensation for survivors who have borne the weight of this abuse for a lifetime," Cordileone said in a prepared statement. "The entire Catholic family is called to unite and share in the work of making amends through this proposed settlement."

Cordileone said the archdiocese accepts responsibility for the abuse allegations, many of which date back decades, while pledging to continue supporting survivors and preventing future abuse.

"While the vast majority of sexual abuse allegations associated with this bankruptcy were from many decades ago, we accept full responsibility for what happened, and I sincerely apologize to all those who have been harmed," he said. "We remain committed to the healing and care of survivors who have suffered because of past sins of Church ministers."

The agreement is the latest in a wave of costly settlements involving California's Catholic dioceses after a 2019 state law temporarily revived decades-old child sexual abuse claims.

In 2024, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles agreed to an $880 million settlement with abuse survivors, while several other California dioceses filed for bankruptcy after facing hundreds of lawsuits.

The settlement marks another defining moment for Cordileone, one of the nation's most prominent Catholic leaders, who has frequently spoken about challenges facing the church.

In a 2023 interview with Fox News Digital, Cordileone warned that Catholics were facing increasing hostility in American society.

"We have to realize that we're being explicitly attacked," Cordileone said at the time. "Our properties are being attacked, our sacred symbols are being desecrated. We're being explicitly insulted, and that's been championed and celebrated in the culture."

Cordileone also cautioned Catholics against becoming overly confrontational despite those challenges.

"I think we can't be overly bombastic either," he told Fox News Digital. "Where do you have to draw a line and take a strong stand? Because that can't be overdone either — because after a while, one will lose credibility."

Plaintiffs' attorney Jeff Anderson called the settlement unprecedented, saying it not only provides financial compensation but also forces lasting institutional reforms.

Besides the $395 million payment, the archdiocese must maintain and publicly update a comprehensive list of clergy accused of abuse, disclose the outcomes of investigations and can no longer require survivors to sign confidentiality agreements.

"I've been working with survivors for decades, and I've never heard of anything quite as significant, as rigorous, as robust as what is being required of the Archdiocese of San Francisco," Anderson said.

Major deliveries were seen being made at Madison Square Garden — just days before Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are rumored to tie the knot at the famous venue.

In a photo obtained by Fox News Digital, a large truck was seen backing into the delivery section of the arena, unloading lighting equipment on Monday.

TMZ reported on Monday that Kelce and Swift took drastic measures to keep the details of their wedding from the public. The outlet shared that the couple's wedding invitations were all individually watermarked with the guests' initials, so if an image of the invite surfaced online, they would know who leaked it.

An anonymous source told the outlet that invitations were first sent out in the spring, around April. The source also said that the invitation doesn't share a location for the wedding and there is no mention of Madison Square Garden on it.

The outlet also reported that Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs teammates had made hotel accommodations at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square around July 3. Winick Productions also allegedly filed a permit with New York City's Street Activity Permit Office to set up a tent or canopy outside MSG. The prominent event planning company has produced large-scale red carpet events, according to The New York Times.

Perhaps the biggest clue of all: an entertainment industry executive confirmed to the outlet that a multi-day event was set to take over Madison Square Garden, which was rented by Swift, beginning July 2. The festivities would reportedly kick off with an intimate gathering of about 100 people before a much larger celebration for roughly 1,000 guests on July 3.

The July 3 celebration may include stage performances, according to the outlet's sources.

Swift and Kelce first sparked dating rumors in 2023 after the Kansas City Chiefs tight end revealed that he had unsuccessfully tried to give the pop superstar a friendship bracelet during her Eras Tour stop in Kansas City. After two years of dating, the couple announced their engagement in August 2025.

Paraguay stuns four-time World Cup champions Germany in penalty shootout after controversial call

Paraguay stunned Germany, the four-time FIFA World Cup champions, after moving on to the round of 16 after winning 4-3 in a penalty shootout on Monday in an absolutely thrilling match with a key controversial moment sprinkled in.

That moment came in extra time, which was needed after a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes plus stoppage time between these two opponents.

Germany had dominated throughout this match, but Paraguay had made the best of their grade-A chance in the first half when Julio Enciso buried a header in the 42nd minute. The Germans were able to finally get on the board, though, in the 54th minute when Kai Havertz saw his own header flick into the back of the net.

From there, Germany was on the offensive, getting chance after chance with some from Paraguay tossed in. But when extra time began, it seemed only a matter of time before Germany would pot another and take the lead.

It appeared to happen when Jonathan Tah rose up and smashed a header on a corner kick past Paraguay keeper Orlando Gill. The German faithful inside Boston Stadium went ballistic, but that was short-lived after the head official went to the VAR screen to review a potential foul.

During the corner kick, Germany’s Waldemar Anton seemed to obstruct Gill’s movement toward the ball, and ultimately to defend Tah’s header. And if he was simply trying to sell the foul, it worked.

After review, the goal was annulled with the referee explaining that Anton’s actions had prevented Gill from properly getting the chance to stop the header.

After the 30 minutes of extra time, neither side was able to break the 1-1 tie. As a result, the tournament’s first penalty shootout was set to determine who would move on to the round of 16, and who would be heading home.

Things did not start off on the right foot for Germany when Havertz stepped up to the ball and saw Gill make a save. Maurício used that momentum and scored his first to immediately put Paraguay in a good position to win.

Both sides would ace their next two penalties apiece before Nick Woltemade’s attempt was saved by Gill. Paraguay, now, had a chance to win it all, but Antonio Sanabria missed the team’s fourth penalty.

Nadiem Amiri kept Germany’s hopes alive with a made shot on the team’s fifth attempt, but being that penalties are determined by five shots, Fabián Balbuena had the opportunity to win it all. However, Manuel Neuer, one of the most decorated goalkeepers in soccer history, let alone Germany’s squad, kept up clutch with a save to force another round.

With slight momentum on their side, Tah stepped up to the penalty area with the chance to get another game-winning goal, this time with his boot. But his attempt was a miserable one, belting it over the crossbar and into the stands.

Paraguay, elated after the miss, sent José Canale to the box and he didn’t disappoint. Neuer guessed the wrong way and Canale tucked his shot under the bar and Paraguay celebrated as you’d expect: pure joy.

It's the first time ever Germany has lost in penalties at the FIFA World Cup.

Germany was left shocked on the pitch, as their 2026 World Cup journey comes to a close. And it’s hard not to think what-if when they appeared to have the game-winner on the scoreboard only for it to be taken away by a call that will certainly be debated for some time.

Meanwhile, Paraguay will now await the winner of the round of 32 match between France and Sweden, which will be played at 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday at New York/New Jersey Stadium.

He did win the King of the Ring Tournament at Night of Champions after all and appeared set to choose his opponent for SummerSlam – Roman Reigns or Sami Zayn. Instead, Brock Lesnar interrupted Femi to a huge ovation.

Lesnar spoke to Femi, calling "The Ruler" out for all the trash talk he’s done while Lesnar had been away from the show. But Lesnar wanted to teach Femi a lesson.

"Talk s---, get hit," Lesnar said before kicking Femi in the groin and delivering an F5 to the big man.

But it wasn’t enough to keep Femi down. He got back up and challenged Lesnar to a match at SummerSlam at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

Lesnar accepted but went a step further. He said the match will take place in a Hell in a Cell. The crowd went crazy and it was later made official.

Raw general manager Adam Pearce made sure that Femi was OK with possibly putting off his title shot for the time being.

"The title is always going to be there. The championships are not going anywhere," Femi assured Pearce. "I’ll take that when I want it. … It needs to happen. This needs to end and I will be the one to put an end to it."

Femi and Lesnar have been at each other’s throats since before WrestleMania 42. Lesnar answered Femi’s open challenge, sparking a match at WrestleMania 42. Femi defeated Lesnar and led to Lesnar, at least for a moment, deciding to retire from pro wrestling.

Maher has a long, chequered history with Trump, something he joked about when he attended a dinner at the White House and brought a list of insults the president has directed at him over the years. But while Maher is not shy about criticizing the president, he specifically praised him for his unique penchant for directly clashing with journalists, saying that contentious feeling toward the press is something he can relate to.

"And it's funny, you know, you want to say it back to the media and I won't about, anything, because you just don't want to pick that fight with them," Maher said as he spoke to his guest, actor Kevin Spacey. "But sometimes when I see Trump just speak his complete internal monologue without, doing things that, it's just like – he will say something, and the one I'm thinking of is like, I've wanted to say that."

Morgan Wallen put his Christian faith on display during a recent concert, taking the stage with a Bible verse written across a cast on his leg.

In videos and photos shared on social media, the 33-year-old country star wore a black cast featuring the Scripture reference "Joshua 2:21" in white writing during his show at Clemson University’s Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina on Saturday.

Joshua 2:21 (KJV) reads, "And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet cord in the window."

The verse is part of the Old Testament story of Rahab, a woman who hid two Israelite spies before the fall of Jericho. After the spies promised to spare her family, Rahab immediately tied a scarlet cord in her window as a sign of their covenant.

Last season, Bichette helped carry Toronto to the World Series. Now, he's stuck at the bottom of the NL East, dealing with a dysfunctional front office that recently fired manager Carlos Mendoza.

Back in Toronto as the road-weary Mets opened a three-game series against his former team Monday, Bichette was asked what returning to Rogers Centre meant to him.

And the waterworks began.

With Mendoza out, frustrated Mets fans have increasingly turned their attention to President of Baseball Operations David Stearns, whose offseason overhaul has produced more questions than wins.

Things were supposed to work out in Queens. Bichette's acquisition was seen as the Mets' response after watching the Dodgers take another bite out of free agency by signing Kyle Tucker ... though Tucker hasn't quite panned out at Chavez, either.

Bichette was a two-time All-Star in Toronto.

During the Blue Jays' World Series run, Bichette batted .348 with a .444 on-base percentage despite battling a late-season knee injury. His Game 7 three-run blast off Shohei Ohtani put Toronto on the brink of a World Series win, but the Dodgers broke the Blue Jays' hearts in extra innings.

Bichette subsequently agreed to a three-year, $126 million contract with the Mets. He pushed his chips onto Queens, but the baseball gods landed on black. (We've all been there, Bo.)

Chase's primary cause of death was from acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), according to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner's office.

Chronic polysubstance use was listed as a significant condition that contributed to her death.

Chronic polysubstance use is defined as the repeated, long-term consumption of two or more substances (such as illicit drugs, prescription medications, or alcohol) simultaneously or within a short period, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Her manner of death was ruled as natural, and while she died in a hospital, her body was not brought in to the coroner's office.

Chase's father, John Schwallier, previously told NBC News via text that his daughter "died of complications of bacterial meningitis and a blood infection."

Her former manager, John Ryan Jr., disputed claims made in a recent crowdfunding campaign published before reports of Chase's death began circulating.

"Daveigh’s estate has plenty of means to pay for the cremation," Ryan said in a statement to Deadline. "John is next of kin and never signed any paperwork over to this so-called boyfriend."

TMZ was first to report Chase's death through her alleged boyfriend, Roy Hernandez.

Air traffic audio captures JetBlue pilot alerting controllers: 'We collided with a drone'

An air traffic audio recording has captured a JetBlue pilot reporting a possible drone strike Monday morning as the aircraft was preparing to land.

The incident occurred as Flight 948 was approaching John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) after departing Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

"We collided with a drone back there in the turn," the pilot said in a recording posted by LiveATC.

"You said you collided?" the controller asked.

"Yep, it is right above the cockpit," he responded.

The reported encounter occurred as the aircraft was beginning its final approach sequence, about 10 to 12 miles out from JFK at roughly 3,000 feet.

The pilot said the incident specifically happened near the ASALT waypoint, a navigational checkpoint where aircraft typically line up to land.

"It was as we were making the turn to ASALT, so about 10 miles to 12 miles outside of ASALT. We were coming over that part of land in New Jersey," the pilot said.

"We don't need any assistance, we're just going to go ahead and land," the pilot said.

At the end of the exchange, the controller acknowledged the message, responding, "Roger, thank you."

"Sorry, I couldn't give you any more details than that," the pilot added.

According to JetBlue, the flight landed without incident and passengers deplaned normally.

A post-flight inspection also did not reveal any damage to the aircraft, officials said.

"Safety is JetBlue's first priority, and we will assist with any relevant investigations," the airline said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

The FAA said the agency will investigate the incident.

She added, "As the second-largest emitter of greenhouse gas emissions in the world, you bear a significant amount of responsibility for global warming and the consequences we, in France, are experiencing. Your cities '90% air-conditioned' are not unrelated to this. In Paris, we take responsibility."

Pulvar, who was elected to her position in March, went on to explain that Paris has implemented measures to fight air pollution and develop energy-efficient renovations for the city, arguing that air conditioning "contributes and aggravates the problem" of global warming.

In an additional statement on her post, Pulvar defended the left's efforts in Paris to combat climate change.

New Mexico governor demands federal reparations after accusing DEA of fueling state's fentanyl crisis

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is demanding the federal government pay reparations after accusing the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of allowing millions of fentanyl pills to flood her state during an undercover operation without notifying state or local officials.

Calling the alleged operation "the most derelict, despicable act in my long career," Lujan Grisham said the fallout has forced New Mexico to pour more than $1.5 billion into law enforcement, behavioral health, addiction treatment and other public safety initiatives while battling overdose deaths and widespread addiction.

"The DEA stood silently by and watched thousands of fentanyl pills get distributed with no arrests, no evidence, no notice that we know of anywhere else," Lujan Grisham said during a Monday news conference. "Someone must pay for the damage to this state, the public safety risks that will be shared by everyone here for a decade."

Lujan Grisham said she wants the federal government to reimburse New Mexico for the money it has spent combating the fentanyl epidemic, including law enforcement operations, behavioral health services, addiction treatment, overdose prevention and other public safety initiatives.

She also called on Congress to prohibit similar DEA operations in the future, require the federal government to fully fund the costs imposed on states by such operations and hold the officials involved personally accountable.

"I've had to do this since 2019 three times," Lujan Grisham said. "We're here again, and this one, in fact, I think is the most devastating."

The Democratic governor compared the controversy to previous federal failures she said harmed New Mexico, including the federal response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the U.S. Forest Service's prescribed burns that sparked the state's largest wildfire. She noted the wildfire ultimately resulted in a multibillion-dollar federal liability settlement, arguing the DEA operation should lead to similar accountability.

Lujan Grisham said her administration repeatedly asked both the Biden and Trump administrations for more federal resources to combat New Mexico's escalating fentanyl crisis, including additional DEA agents and coordinated enforcement efforts, but those requests went unanswered.

"Everybody behind me and the Office of the Governor have been asking both administrations… to do more about public safety in the state of New Mexico," she said, adding that her administration held multiple meetings, sent multiple letters and requested additional resources and agents, yet "it's been remarkably silent."

Lujan Grisham also urged lawmakers to require federal agencies to notify state and local officials before conducting similar operations, restore roughly $25 million in federal behavioral health and public safety funding she said has been cut and enact legislation preventing similar DEA tactics from being used in the future.

Her remarks came days after New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez announced a criminal investigation into allegations that the DEA knowingly allowed hundreds of thousands of fentanyl pills to reach New Mexico communities while agents pursued larger criminal investigations.

The Associated Press previously reported that DEA agents repeatedly monitored, but did not seize, large fentanyl shipments between 2023 and 2025 while attempting to build broader criminal cases.

Torrez said the investigation will examine potential legal remedies, including criminal prosecution, civil litigation and structural reforms intended to prevent similar conduct by DEA agents in the future.

"The families who have lost children, siblings, and parents to fentanyl deserve the truth about what the federal government knew and what it failed to do," Torrez said in a statement.

"If the DEA stood by while poison flooded our communities, that is not a bureaucratic failure," he continued. "It is a betrayal of the people it was sworn to protect."

Torrez said his office "will pursue every legal avenue available to hold the responsible parties accountable and make certain this never happens again."

On Monday, Lujan Grisham echoed Torrez's call for accountability, saying those who approved or oversaw the operation should face consequences.

"I want the people who knew this distribution was occurring without notifying anyone and allowing it to occur over and over again held accountable," Lujan Grisham said. "My bet is many of those people are still in that DEA office."

"I am so angry. This is an outrage," she added. "They should be accountable for the length of time it's going to take us to combat the scourge of addiction and fentanyl overdose deaths."

Lions release Terrion Arnold after bond set at $1 million in armed robbery, kidnapping case

The Detroit Lions announced they have released cornerback Terrion Arnold, their 2024 first-round pick, following an arrest last week where he was charged with armed robbery and kidnapping.

This comes after Arnold had his bond set at $1 million on Monday by Hillsborough County Judge Christopher Sabella.

Sabella also added conditions for Arnold, which included no contact with the six co-defendants in the case as well as the witnesses. He also must surrender his passport within 48 hours, and remain confined to his home in Tallahassee, Florida, except when he would be playing, training or traveling with the Lions or making court-related appearances.

The state also asked Judge Sabella for Arnold to be required to wear a GPS tracking device, but Arnold’s attorneys said he wouldn’t be able to play football with it on.

Prosecutors were pushing for Arnold to be held without bond but, though the charges are serious ones in Sabella’s eyes, he didn’t believe the case was strong enough to hold him in that fashion.

The 23-year-old Arnold was arrested in connection with an alleged kidnapping and robbery that investigators say occurred in February, the Tampa Police Department announced on June 25. Arnold turned himself in and was taken into custody at Orient Road Jail in Hillsborough County on Wednesday night.

Arnold is charged with four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery.

Spokespersons for the Lions and the NFL told Fox News Digital they were aware of the situation, but wouldn’t comment any further. Now, the Lions have made their move one month before training camp kicks off across the league.

According to investigators, Arnold rented an Airbnb in Largo, Florida, where he periodically stayed with several co-defendants: Arianna Del Valle, 19; Jasmine Randazzo, 19; Lyndell Hudson II, 26; Christion Williams, 24; Boakai Hilton Jr., 23; and Freddie Hughes, 27. Authorities said other individuals also stayed at the property.

Investigators said three male victims, all in their late teens, suffered visible injuries after they were allegedly battered, held at gunpoint and pistol-whipped before being robbed and ordered to leave a residence in the 14000 block of North 46th Street in Tampa.

According to investigators, multiple personal items belonging to Arnold and others were stolen from the Airbnb on Feb. 1. Authorities said Arnold suspected two of the three victims were responsible, though Tampa police later determined they were not involved in the theft.

On Feb. 3, Arnold, Hilton, Hughes and another individual reported more than $250,000 in stolen property to the Largo Police Department.

Investigators allege that later that day Arnold and Hilton coordinated with Del Valle and Randazzo to contact one of the victims and lure him to an apartment.

Police said the three victims arrived at the apartment on Feb. 4 to meet the women, where Williams and Hudson were allegedly hiding inside a bedroom closet. According to investigators, Williams and Hudson grabbed the victims, held them at gunpoint and assaulted them.

Authorities said Del Valle streamed the incident to Arnold, Hilton and Hughes as they traveled to the apartment. Investigators also said they recovered a group chat involving the defendants in which Arnold and Hilton allegedly gave directions to Del Valle, Williams and Hudson during the assault.

According to investigators, Arnold, Hilton, Hughes and another individual arrived at the apartment around 1 a.m. Police allege Arnold directed the group inside, and that Hughes, Hudson and Williams stole the victims' personal property while the assault was ongoing.

Authorities said the victims were escorted from the apartment about 40 minutes later, forced into their vehicle and left the scene. They later reported the incident to Tampa police and identified the suspects.

Investigators said they believe Arnold was the primary organizer of the alleged scheme based on evidence gathered during the investigation. However, Harvey Steinberg, one of Arnold’s attorneys, argued in court that the prosecutors were "not even close" to showing he knew or directed his associates in this incident.

Arnold was expected to be a starting corner for the Lions this season, making his release a big one for the depth chart. He recorded his first career interception this past season in Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings, though he was only able to play eight games because of a shoulder injury that required season-ending surgery.

Arnold played 16 games during his rookie season in 2024, tallying 10 passes defended and 60 combined tackles.

Emotion and feelings: How Democratic Socialists' congressional insurgency could come back to bite them

It’s a Democratic identity crisis.

Democratic Socialists of America are on the charge, running hot off their wins in the New York Democratic primaries last week. Their victories in multiple Congressional seats – felling both Reps. Adriano Espaillat, D-N.Y., and Dan Goldman, D-N.Y. – signals that the party is ready to move on from the same old, same old.

Espaillat chaired the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. Goldman was a key House staffer during the first impeachment of President Donald Trump.

"Even Dan Goldman’s not good enough for them," said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, on Fox. "That is how radical it's become."

MAMDANI-BACKED SOCIALISTS LOOK TO TAKE NEW YORK PLAYBOOK NATIONWIDE AFTER PRIMARY VICTORIES

Some moderate Democrats are trying to distance themselves from the left.

"That's not the same brand of politics that we have. We're not those type of Democrats," said Rep. Tom Suozzi, D-N.Y., who represents a battleground district.

"There's a new group of Democratic Socialists who are socialists who are not commonsense Democrats. Who are not interested in getting things done. They're interested in throwing bombs. Not actually solving problems," said Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J.

LURCHING LEFT: MAMDANI-BACKED CANDIDATES OUST ESTABLISHMENT DEMOCRATS

Some Democrats are worried how far left candidates command more attention than those in the middle. Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet, D-Mich., worries that the outsized attention garnered by the left sends the wrong impression to voters.

"What they don't want is divisiveness. They don't want screaming and yelling," said McDonald Rivet.

Mainstream Democrats feel trapped in the middle as the left – specifically the New York City left – wields an outsized media and political megaphone.

"Those candidates would not have won in Virginia where I live," said Rep. Suhas Subramanyam, D-Va.

Republicans believe they are primed to nationalize the midterms. Republicans can do that by highlighting the extreme views of Democratic Socialists who captured primary victories in New York City. The GOP wants to portray their opponents as veering left.

"These are board-certified communists, right?" asked Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan. "They want no police. They want no private property."

President Trump capitalized on the Democratic outcomes in his home city.

"The Democrat party is in big trouble because this isn't stopping with New York," he forecast.

VICTORIES BY MAMDANI-BACKED CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATES SPOTLIGHTS GROWING RIFT IN DEMOCRATIC PARTY

This shakeup has progressive leaders demanding transformation at the top.

"You're going to see, I think, people voting for new leadership and to change their representation," said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.

The Democratic Party tapped Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., to deliver their official response to President Trump’s 2025 State of the Union speech. Slotkin is a moderate who won in a battleground race in 2024 – even as the President prevailed in the Wolverine State. But during an appearance on SiriusXM, Slotkin insists on a Democratic Party management switch.

"If people can't understand that the game has fundamentally changed and they can't adapt, then they need to let others," said Slotkin. "The old models do not work for people."

Republicans believe House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., is vulnerable after the DSA elected their candidates over his preferred picks in New York City.

"I think Hakeem Jeffries' friends and neighbors gave him a big middle finger," said House Oversight Chairman James Comer, R-Ky. "If you lose three elections in your hometown, that's a pretty big slap in the face."

He added that Democrats "are going further and further to the left to the point where they are full-blown, card-carrying socialists."

And then there is the anti-Israel, anti-Jewish, and in some cases, antisemitic take by some of these candidates. Rep. Greg Landsman, D-Ohio, is a moderate Democrat from a swing district. He’s Jewish and one of the most pro-Israel Democrats in the House.

"There are some on the left who use Israel the way that some on the right use immigrants or trans kids as a way to divide. And I think it's terrible. It's also just not what voters want us talking about," said Landsman.

HOUSE DEMOCRAT LASHES OUT WHEN GRILLED ON WHETHER SOCIALIST VICTORIES WOULD THREATEN DEM UNITY

Yours truly tangled with Rep. John Larson, D-Conn. – who once chaired the House Democratic Caucus. I pressed him about what the party would do about some candidates "who are too far to the left."

"What does that mean? That's your statement. Did the people of New York vote?" queried Larson.

I assured him that they did.

"Is that democracy?" asked Larson.

"But if some of them are antisemitic," I countered.

"Is that a democracy?" continued Larson.

"Will you stand by people if they have antisemitic views?" I followed up.

Larson finally addressed my inquiry. His answer crystallized the schism the Democratic Party now faces.

"I'm against antisemitism, if that's your question," Larson declared.

The fact that Democrats are now facing this debate robs them of valuable time on economic issues.

Landsman argued that voters would prefer candidates to stick to groceries and the price of gas.

Gottheimer echoed Landsman on kitchen table subjects.

"We should be focused on ways to actually solve problems like that. Not coming in here and using tea party tactics and trying to divide up the country and pray to socialist ideals," said Gottheimer.

So what is the party to do?

"They’re our nominees. We're going to support them. We're going to welcome them. They're going to be part of our caucus and we're going to unite behind Leader Jeffries," said Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., the top Democrat on the Oversight panel.

But that doesn’t address the fissures. It doesn’t address how voters may perceive the party. And it doesn’t establish if these new Democratic nominees will work on behalf of the party to raise money and advocate for Democrats across the board. Or, will they become professional bomb throwers – ala what the right has endured for a while.

"It's going to be a lot harder to get things done when you get more and more extreme candidates who are here because they're interested in political celebrity. They are interested in fighting. They're interested in making points," asserted Rep. Dusty Johnson, R-S.D.

Republicans suffered through an absolutely abysmal week. House GOP leaders had to yank multiple bills off the floor and send lawmakers home early because of internal disputes. President Trump and Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., got into a shouting match about Iran. And the president even threatened to veto a bipartisan housing bill. President Trump then refused to sign the bill at the Capitol, despite his aides touting the bill and House Republicans tricking out Statuary Hall for a signing ceremony.

The President characterized the housing bill as "a yawn."

But the Democrats' internal fractures may have superseded any internecine fighting among Republicans.

"While it's not been a great week for Republicans, I think it's been a much worse week for Democrats because of these primary elections," observed Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Fla.

Democrats will certainly run on economic issues and capitalize on statements by the President about basic issues like housing. But will a genuine policy debate outweigh fears about progressives nationwide?

Emotion and feelings rule in politics. And it could be a problem for Democrats if Republicans appropriate what happened in New York and Xerox it onto battleground districts across the country.

WWE's Sami Zayn talks Kevin Owens as star wrestler recovers from serious neck injury

Kevin Owens has been away from the ring for several months.

The last time any pro wrestling fan saw him inside the squared circle was weeks before WrestleMania 41 when he announced to the world he needed neck surgery that would keep him out of action for several months.

Owens has been seen sparingly since then. He’s featured on "WWE LFG" as a coach and recently made an appearance on the pre-show for NXT The Great American Bash.

Fox News Digital asked one of Owens’ best friends, Sami Zayn, about him in a recent interview prior to Night of Champions. Zayn said that Owens being in a spot where he could return to the ring just takes time.

"I don’t want to speak out of school sharing his medical stuff," Zayn said. "The procedure that he had just takes time. He’s going to do his due diligence – do rehab exercises and all that. But it really is a matter of time when you’re talking about fusions and those kinds of procedures, you just need time to get to where it needs to be."

Zayn added that any of WWE’s top shows – "Monday Night Raw" or "Friday Night SmackDown" – would see a significant boost in quality from Owens’ presence.

"I’m hoping more than anybody, I would think, that he comes back soon. I think the fans have really been … I get asked about him a lot. Gunman kills 6 at youth welfare facility in suspected child custody dispute: reports

A suspect is in custody after six people were shot and killed Monday at a youth welfare facility in northern Germany, officials said.

The shooting happened around midday in Stade, a town of about 50,000 people near Hamburg. Authorities said the victims — four women and two men — all worked at the youth center or affiliated organizations. Five were pronounced dead at the scene, while a sixth died later at a hospital, according to The Associated Press, citing authorities.

Several others were wounded in the shooting, which may have been tied to a child custody dispute, the outlet reported.

2 PEOPLE ARE KILLED IN A KNIFE ATTACK IN GERMANY; SCHOLZ SAYS THERE MUST BE CONSEQUENCES

Police said the shooting happened at a facility on Dankersstrasse that houses pregnant women and young mothers with children, according to The Associated Press.

The suspect, a 45-year-old man, had an appointment at the facility earlier in the day before the shooting unfolded around midday. His 3-month-old daughter and the child’s mother were safe, Reuters reported.

The suspected gunman was arrested. Police said two others were also subject to police measures on suspicion of involvement but did not provide additional details, according to The Associated Press.

"My condolences go to the families of the dead and injured, who must endure so much pain. My thanks go to all first responders and doctors."

Police warned people to avoid the area after the shooting but later said there was no danger to the public. Investigators were still collecting evidence Monday evening, Reuters reported.

Earlier this year, a car plowed into a pedestrian zone in Leipzig, Germany, killing two people and leaving several others seriously injured.
