Mamdani-backed socialist wins NYC House seat as DSA expands its reach in Congress

Claire Valdez, a Democratic candidate for Congress in New York’s 7th Congressional District, is projected to win her congressional race against Republican challenger Melvin Rivera, a community activist, on Tuesday evening in the race to fill the seat of outgoing Rep. Nydia Velázquez, D-N.Y.

Velázquez, who has held the seat since 2013 and has been a member of Congress since 1993, is retiring.

The district’s strong Democratic lean made Valdez the favorite, and her victory marks another noteworthy win for the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) in the 2026 midterms.

In the June primary, New York’s 7th District was seen as a proxy for the direction of the party.

During that race, Valdez faced off against a crowded field of other congressional hopefuls. Among them was Antonio Reynoso, the Brooklyn borough president.

While Valdez enjoyed the backing of the DSA and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a self-proclaimed socialist, Reynoso received support from more established Democrats — including the outgoing Velázquez.

"It’s very nice to get to New York for a few years and to have opinions about other elected officials without knowing the history and the struggle and who was there fighting corrupt government," Velázquez told the New York Times ahead of the primary.

"Now, all of the sudden, people want to come in and decide who is the best candidate with total disregard to the history, the background."

U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries didn’t endorse in the race, but surmised the divides at play in the race, noting the DSA’s break with many other New York Democratic figures, including Letitia James, the state’s attorney general.

"Nydia Velázquez and a coalition of very progressive Democrats, including Tish James… along with the Working Families Party and many of the unions… are on one side of that race, with DSA on the other," Jeffries told reporters in June.

Valdez based her primary platform on promises to abolish ICE and implement a Green New Deal-style approach to climate change. She also supports universal rent control and Medicare for All.

Her platform attracted the backing of the DSA in January.

"With this endorsement, Valdez’s campaign will be powered by the same volunteer army that propelled Mayor Zohran Mamdani to victory in 2025… Valdez is the only candidate running in NY-7 who has committed to not taking money from the real estate industry," the group stated in a press release.

Democratic strategist Mally Smith told Fox News Digital, "It is not surprising she won given how blue that district is."

"We are a big tent party and that means there are going to be some folks on the far left who win. But for us to win in competitive red or swing states we should nominate candidates like Roy Cooper and James Talarico," Smith added.

Valdez isn’t the only DSA-backed candidate in New York to prompt considerations about the future of the Democratic Party. In a very similar primary race, Darializa Avila Chevalier, another DSA candidate, beat out incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat, D-N.Y., a high-ranking Democrat and the chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

The wins have captured national attention and drawn criticism from some Democrats who have criticized the DSA’s growth in the party.

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., who has not shied away from confrontations, has been one of the few Democrats to express alarm about the kind of candidates carrying the party’s banner.

"I mean, you look at some of the things that people have said. Abolish prison, abolish the border, abolish ICE, I mean these crazy people — I have colleagues in my caucus that refuse to even call this out," Fetterman told Fox News Digital earlier this year.

Russell Wilson could be trading a TV studio for a Saturday sideline. Reports surfaced Tuesday, via NFL insider Adam Schefter, that the 37-year-old former Super Bowl champion interviewed for the open NC State head coaching job.

The Wolfpack fired Dave Doeren on Oct. 24 after a 3-4 start. Athletic director Boo Corrigan is reportedly targeting two program icons in the search, Wilson and Philip Rivers.

After retiring from the NFL in June following 14 seasons, 10 Pro Bowls, and a ring in Seattle, Wilson is barely two months into his CBS studio role and already eyeing a return to college football.

Then there is Rivers. The 44-year-old has spent the last six seasons coaching St. Michael Catholic High School in Alabama to consecutive state semifinals. Rivers reportedly told NC State he wants to finish his high school season first.

Though Wilson is a hot name to target, he has never coached a single snap at any level. Hiring a first-time coach is a wild roll of the dice, but the modern game is driven by NIL money and roster management. Wilson has the name recognition to lock down booster support.

Before transferring to Wisconsin, Wilson accounted for 93 total touchdowns in Raleigh.

Paul Pelosi hit with 6-month driving ban after pleading no contest to misdemeanor hit-and-run

Paul Pelosi is banned from getting behind the wheel for six months after crashing into a parked car and fleeing in California wine country, landing the former House speaker’s husband back in court four years after his DUI conviction.

Pelosi, 86, struck an unoccupied parked vehicle in Yountville July 3 and fled, Napa County District Attorney Allison Haley said Tuesday.

The husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., pleaded no contest to misdemeanor hit-and-run and a traffic infraction for making an unlawful turn.

PAUL PELOSI ABSENT FROM FIRST COURT APPEARANCE ON HIT-AND-RUN CHARGE IN NAPA COUNTY CRASH CASE

Napa County Superior Court Judge Scott R.L. Young placed Pelosi on probation for one year and prohibited him from driving for six months, the maximum period allowed under the California Vehicle Code provisions cited by prosecutors.

Young also ordered Pelosi to complete a 10-day work program and report to the Napa County Department of Corrections for booking only by Nov. 20.

Pelosi paid $11,191.14 in restitution to the vehicle’s owner as part of the plea agreement, according to the district attorney’s office. He was also ordered to pay court fines and fees.

The July collision involved a parked Tesla, according to the criminal complaint previously reported by Fox News Digital. Pelosi was allegedly driving a burgundy Maserati convertible and left without attempting to identify the owner or leaving the information required under California law.

Deputies later located Pelosi about a half-mile away. He allegedly told officers he had intended to return to the crash site.

Pelosi previously faced criminal charges over a different Napa County crash in 2022, when he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor DUI.

That conviction required him to attend a DUI education program and use an ignition interlock device. He was also sentenced to and ordered to pay restitution and fines.

His driving history also includes a 1957 crash in San Mateo County that killed his 19-year-old brother, The New York Times reported. Pelosi was behind the wheel, but a jury cleared him of wrongdoing.

More recently, Pelosi accumulated traffic infractions across four Bay Area counties, according to the Times. The outlet reported violations in Napa, San Mateo, Marin and San Francisco involving speeding, running a red light, driving against traffic on a one-way street and cellphone use without a hands-free device.

Prosecutors said the public attention surrounding Pelosi’s case prompted the announcement, noting that misdemeanor hit-and-run cases involving only property damage generally do not receive a news release.

Teen previously convicted in shooting accused of killing pregnant mom of 4 inside Spirit Halloween

A California teen released after a prior shooting arrest is now accused of gunning down a pregnant mother of four at a Spirit Halloween store, prompting prosecutors to push to try the 17-year-old as an adult.

Monte Smith was arrested Nov. 2 after the attack at Fairfield’s Solano Town Center left Constance Hages, 31, dead and six others wounded, according to Fairfield police.

The Solano County District Attorney’s Office has also charged him with two counts of murder and asked a judge to move his case to adult court.

Smith had already been arrested in another shooting before the deadly attack at Spirit Halloween, according to Fairfield police. That case involved gunfire in a local high school parking lot after school hours in 2025. He received a sentence and was later released, the department said.

"It’s time for change in California," Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall said, according to KTVU. "I don’t know how many more people have to die at the hands of youth. Hopefully we’ve had plenty enough."

Prosecutors also pointed to Smith’s record in explaining why they want him kept in custody.

"Due to the seriousness of these crimes, the minor’s criminal record, and the threat to public safety, the people will argue that Smith remain detained," the DA’s office said.

The filing also alleges a prior violent offense conviction, described as a strike, though the DA’s announcement did not specify the underlying offense.

Hages’ death has left four children without their mother, according to a GoFundMe organized by her aunt, Clanisha Morton. Police confirmed Hages was pregnant when she was killed.

"Constance was deeply loved, and her absence has created an overwhelming void in the lives of everyone who knew and cherished her," Morton wrote.

The family is raising money for funeral expenses and care for her children.

The gunfire erupted around 8:30 p.m. Oct. 30, after Smith allegedly walked into the store and spotted another customer whom investigators believe he intended to target, police said.

He pulled out a gun and fired multiple rounds, striking that person and six others, according to police. Hages died at the scene.

Investigators have not identified the intended target or said what led to the shooting.

Smith fled within minutes, just as officers arrived, police said. As first responders treated the wounded, a school resource officer helped investigators identify the suspect.

The officer recognized Smith as a former student while reviewing surveillance video from the store and immediately alerted detectives, according to police. That recognition helped identify him within hours of the initial 911 call, and detectives ultimately located him at a residence in neighboring Suisun City.

Police initially withheld Smith’s name because of his age. The DA’s office later publicly identified him in its charging announcement.

The FBI also assisted with the investigation, confirming to Fox News Digital that its Evidence Response Team helped Fairfield police process a portion of the crime scene.

In addition to the two murder counts, Smith faces three counts of attempted murder, three counts of assault with a semiautomatic weapon and multiple gun enhancements, according to the DA’s office. Prosecutors also filed a multiple-murder special circumstance allegation.

The office announced that Smith’s arraignment and detention hearing was scheduled for Nov. 4 at 9 a.m. Its request to prosecute him as an adult requires a judge’s approval.

Police have not identified the school involved in the earlier shooting or said when Smith was released in that case.

In an update Saturday about the surviving victims, police said a 16-year-old boy, a 19-year-old man and a 32-year-old man were in critical condition, while a 23-year-old man was in critical but stable condition. Two other men, ages 19 and 43, had been treated for gunshot wounds and released.

The department’s arrest announcement did not provide updated conditions.

Trump-backed Byron Donalds to make history as Florida’s first Black governor

Rep. Byron Donalds just made history as the first Black politician to win a gubernatorial election in Florida as Fox News Decision Desk projected the congressman winning Tuesday's election.

He is also the first Black Republican in the nation's history elected governor.

Donalds, a three-term congressman from southwest Florida, defeated Democratic rival former Rep. David Jolly in a close race to win the Sunshine State's gubernatorial election, the Fox News Decision Desk projects.

With his victory, the top House ally of President Donald Trump and MAGA champion with a growing national profile will succeed term-limited GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis in steering the nation's third most populous state.

"I am humbled and grateful beyond measure," Donalds said in a victory statement posted to X. "As your Governor, I will give you everything I have. We are going to make life in Florida more affordable. We are going to keep our streets safe. We are going to invest in our young people so that they can attain the Florida Dream that all of us love so dearly. Florida is the envy of the nation. I will fight day and night to keep it that way and to lift our state to even greater heights."

Continuing and building upon DeSantis' conservative agenda was a key part of Donalds' campaign for governor.

Donalds was endorsed by Trump in February of last year, before he even formally launched his campaign for governor. Donalds declared his candidacy for governor during an appearance on Fox News' "Hannity."

Backed by Trump, Donalds won nearly half the vote in Florida's August GOP gubernatorial primary. He topped a crowded field of rivals that included Lt. Gov. Jay Collins, former Florida House Speaker Paul Renner, and business executive James Fishback.

Donalds made headlines in late September when some references to Trump, whose approval ratings have continued to decline, were scrubbed from his campaign website.

A New York City native, Donalds moved to Florida to attend college. He worked in the finance, insurance, and banking fields before entering politics. A one-time Democrat, he became a Republican in 2010 amid the Tea Party movement. Donalds was elected to the Florida House in 2016, serving two terms before winning a seat in Congress.

Jolly, a Florida native who served as a top advisor to then-Rep. Bill Young, also worked as a lawyer and a lobbyist before winning a special congressional election in March of 2014. He won a full two-year term to the House later that year before losing re-election in 2016.

After leaving office he became a vocal Trump critic and a cable news political commentator. Jolly left the GOP in 2018 and became a Democrat last year before launching his gubernatorial campaign.

During their showdown for governor, Donalds showcased anti-socialism messaging, repeatedly claiming that Jolly embraced "radical socialism."

Firing back, Jolly told Fox News two weeks ago, "Byron Donalds is a liar. I've condemned socialism in the DSA [Democratic Socialists of America] hundreds of times, and he knows that."

Florida was once the largest of the general election battlegrounds, but the state has shifted to the right over the past decade. DeSantis won his 2022 re-election by nearly 20 points and Trump carried the state by 13 points in his 2024 White House re-election victory.

It’s time for rookie quarterback Joe Fagnano to take center stage. On Thursday night, the undrafted UConn product will go from simulating plays in his living room with his wife to making his first NFL start against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

First-year Baltimore Ravens coach Jessie Minter confirmed that Fagnano, who has spent most of the season as the team’s No. 3 quarterback, will start Thursday night. It is unclear whether Tyler Huntley will serve as his backup after the veteran quarterback sustained an injury in the Ravens’ Week 8 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

With his start in Week 9, Fagnano will become only the second undrafted rookie to start a regular-season game for the Ravens. "It's special," Fagnano said. "It's really the only way I can think about it."

Fagnano is moving to the top of Baltimore’s depth chart after Lamar Jackson’s return from a three-game absence was cut short by a thumb injury early in Sunday’s 36-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Jackson had missed those games because of a high left ankle sprain.

Fagnano has also dealt with injury concerns after stepping in for the injured Jackson and Huntley. He practiced with a brace on his right ankle on Tuesday. "Every game you got bumps and bruises," Fagnano said. "It's just football, a physical game we play. It feels good, though."

Fagnano earned one of the Ravens roster spots after he put together what was widely considered a strong preseason. The 25-year-old threw for 91 yards in his NFL debut.

The Fox News Decision Desk projects former Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper of North Carolina defeating former Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair Michael Whatley, a close ally of President Donald Trump.

The high-profile and expensive ballot box showdown gives Democrats another seat in the Senate as Cooper prepares to succeed retiring GOP Sen. Thom Tillis.

The race was projected as a victory for Cooper with 57.63 votes counted, with 66.40% going to the former Democratic governor and 31.96% going to Whatley.

"North Carolina — I’m grateful for your trust," Cooper posted on X. "We have more in common than divides us. Here’s to building better days ahead!"

Cooper's flipping of a GOP-controlled seat in the crucial southeastern battleground state boosts his party as Democrats aim to recapture the Senate majority in the midterm elections.

Cooper's triumph in the Senate race was his seventh straight statewide victory, after winning four elections for attorney general and two for governor.

His continued solid lead over Whatley in public opinion polling spurred top GOP-aligned outside groups a month ago to pull the plug on spending in the North Carolina race. It was seen as a signal that Republicans no longer saw a path to victory in the southeastern battleground state.

Trump, during a rally two weeks ago in North Carolina to try and rescue Whatley, appeared to acknowledge the dire situation, remarking to the crowd that Cooper is "going to become your senator... It’s crazy, you’re going to send him to Washington to represent you."

Cooper, the first Democrat to win a Senate election in North Carolina in nearly two decades, touted that he would be a "strong, independent senator" who would work with Trump when he could and stand up to him when needed. He focused on cost of living and health care issues as he campaigned for the Senate.

Whatley, a North Carolina native who served as the state's GOP chair for five years before Trump picked him in March 2024 to serve as RNC chair, was a first-time candidate.

He pledged to create jobs, raise wages, lower costs and keep communities safe. Whatley also said he would be a Trump ally in the Senate.

Tillis, a vocal Republican Trump critic, announced in June of last year that he wouldn't seek re-election, which the president called "great news."

After Tillis' announcement, Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, was at the top of the president's list for the open seat in the Tar Heel State.

But Lara Trump, a North Carolina native who served as RNC co-chair alongside Whatley in 2024, announced that "after much consideration and heartfelt discussions with my family, friends, and supporters, I have decided not to pursue the United States Senate seat in North Carolina at this time."

Illinois teachers union boss Stacy Davis Gates gets major pay bump as state reading scores lag

The president of the Illinois Federation of Teachers (IFT) received a reported $70,000 annual pay raise while many Illinois students continue to struggle with reading proficiency.

The IFT Executive Board approved a pay increase for IFT President Stacy Davis Gates, raising her compensation for that role from $180,000 to $250,000 annually, according to an Oct. 29 report from NBC Chicago.

The state-level raise comes on top of her existing salary as president of the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU), where public records show she earned just under $195,000, based on that figure and her newly reported IFT salary, her combined annual pay would total approximately $445,000.

The nearly 39% pay increase drew criticism from the Illinois Policy Institute, a free-market think tank.

"The Chicago Teachers Union spends more money running itself than it does representing teachers. According to its own reporting, less than 19% of CTU’s spending went toward representation," Mailee Smith, vice president of policy and litigation at the Illinois Policy Institute, told Fox News Digital.

"Davis Gates’ raise reflects the same misplaced priorities seeping into the Illinois Federation of Teachers: more dues money going toward leadership compensation instead of serving members," she continued.

Smith also criticized the disparity between Davis Gates' reported compensation and the salaries of classroom teachers.

"Teachers look for support in their classrooms and representation at the bargaining table," Smith added. "A nearly 39% raise for a leader does not help with either of those, especially when the average Illinois teacher only makes a fraction of Davis Gates’ total combined annual salary of $445,000."

Neither Davis Gates, the CTU nor the IFT responded to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

WATCHDOG REPORT EXPOSES TEACHERS UNION 'POLITICAL MACHINE' FUNNELING MORE THAN $1 BILLION TO LIBERAL CAUSES

The compensation boost comes as Illinois schools face questions about student reading and math proficiency.

According to 2024 results from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) — often referred to as the Nation's Report Card — only 30% of Illinois fourth graders scored at or above the proficient level in reading. Among eighth graders, 33% scored at or above that benchmark.

Chicago Public Schools' results also show significant proficiency gaps.

In Chicago, 23% of fourth graders performed at or above the NAEP Proficient level in reading in 2024. Meanwhile, 60% of fourth graders scored at or above the NAEP Basic level in math, a slight increase from 59% in 2022 and up from 50% in 2003.

The Illinois Policy Institute reported that 46% of Chicago Public Schools (CPS) students in grades three through eight met reading proficiency standards during the 2025-26 school year, according to data from the 2026 Illinois Report Card. Spencer Pratt explained why his controversial stay at the Hotel Bel-Air was actually the cheaper option as he faced death threats while running for mayor of Los Angeles.

The 43-year-old reality star faced scrutiny in May after TMZ reported he had been staying at the luxury hotel despite appearing to suggest in a campaign ad that he was living in an Airstream trailer on the site of his California home, which was destroyed in the devastating Pacific Palisades fire.

At the time, the outlet reported that Pratt had been staying at the Hotel Bel-Air for more than a month, though "The Hills" alum disputed that characterization, saying he had spent no more than six days there during the previous month.

In a lengthy X post he shared Tuesday, Pratt, who lost in the June primary election, defended his choice to stay at the pricey hotel during the race.

"Why is he spending $1,200 a night? Why couldn’t he stay somewhere for $300 a night? Well, the answer to that question is not as pretty as any of us may like to hear," Pratt wrote.

"Most people simply presumed that I was being a bougie spoiled brat, and that I was abusing campaign funds," he continued. "They expected me to stay at a cheaper hotel, but what they don’t realize is … the Hotel Bel Air was the cheapest hotel in all of LA.

"At the time, I couldn’t explain the math to people, and my campaign staff told me I wasn’t allowed to divulge the real reason I had to stay there, but now that the election is coming to a close, I don’t need to listen to anyone anymore."

Pratt had previously told TMZ in May that the Airstream had become unsafe, saying that the Bel Air Hotel's "armed security" made it "the only option." He claimed that supporters of his opponents, Mayor Karen Bass and City Councilmember Nithya Raman were "getting increasingly desperate and hostile" due to his performance at the May debate and strong polling numbers.

"I can't talk about specific threats, but that lot is ... unsafe now," he said at the time.

In his X post, Pratt, who ran as a Republican, elaborated on the threats that he received, which he attributed to political violence.

"Throughout the campaign, I endured numerous death threats, to the point where I had to hire full-time security," he wrote. "Anyone who’s had to hire security knows that they will always tell you to not discuss your death threats; they find that it often has the opposite effect you would expect; normal people should hear it and think ‘whoa, we need to dial back the temperature, this isn’t acceptable’, but the reality is that commie street animals get inspired, and you will end up getting copycats if you advertise your threats."

Pratt went on to detail specific incidents he said led him to fear for his safety and that of his family.

"People were breaking into my lot in the Palisades and leaving notes on the airstream with white powder in them," he wrote.

The TV personality also claimed that a "lunatic" who was "hellbent on tracking me down" charged at his young son while he was boogie-boarding in the ocean. Pratt shares sons Gunner, 8, and Ryker, 3, with his wife and former "The Hills" co-star Heidi Montag, 40.

"So, I had to hire a second security detail for my family while I was away campaigning," he wrote. "I don’t know if you’ve ever had to hire 4-5 armed security professionals with blacked out SUVs, but…it’s not cheap. One of the first things they told me was that my lot in the Palisades was a security nightmare; perched mid-slope on a hill, totally exposed in a bowl, surrounded by elevated positions where a shooter could easily traipse through the wilderness of the State Park, and have a clear line of sight to every inch of my property.

"I wasn’t allowed to stay on that property, even if I wanted to," he added. "Enter the Hotel Bel Air."

Pratt explained that the famed LA hotel, which has hosted celebrities, presidents and royalty, is an unusually secure property due to its design.

"While $1,200 a night isn’t very unique for a decent hotel in a major city, there’s something else about the hotel that is unique," Pratt wrote.

"Unlike my turkey shoot of a lot in the Palisades, the Hotel Bel Air is surrounded with a fortress wall, with a single point of ingress, a fatal funnel that takes you over a moat, just to enter the property. You then must navigate a labyrinth of walled off bungalows, and it is very easy to get lost. Unlike normal hotels, it is a very secure facility.

"When my security team dropped me off behind the walls of the Bel Air, they felt good about leaving me alone in the secure facility," he continued.

"Had I stayed anywhere else, I would have needed to book out 3 rooms for my team to maintain overnight security, which would’ve cost an additional $3,000 per night. Paradoxically, by this calculation, I was actually saving a ton of money by staying at the secure Bel Air; even staying at a Motel 6 would’ve cost me more money, and in a campaign…money is everything."

Pratt claimed that threats of political violence disproportionately affect Republican candidates, arguing that the cost of protecting himself forced his campaign to spend money on security that his Democratic rivals could devote elsewhere. The reality star recalled that Raman appeared at a debate preparation event without visible security while he was accompanied by several armed officers.

"We have an epidemic of left wing violence that puts republicans at a permanent fundraising disadvantage," he wrote. "I knew that I needed armed security, and even though it severely crippled our campaign by siphoning off an insane amount of our fundraising dollars, we had to do it, because we knew that nobody else was going to protect us."

Pratt said that while his campaign has ended, the security concerns that prompted him to hire armed protection have continued.

President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he is prepared to veto Democratic legislation when needed if Republicans lose control of Congress for the final two years of his presidency.

As Americans flock to decide control of Congress as well as key gubernatorial and state legislative races on Election Day, Trump made it clear he remains confident in his ability to pursue the MAGA agenda even if his party loses legislative majorities.

"I have the ultimate power — it's called 'veto,'" Trump told CBS News during a phone interview.

Trump also cited Slaughter v. Trump, a Supreme Court ruling that allowed him to fire Rebecca Slaughter, a Democratic commissioner on the Federal Trade Commission, earlier this year before her term ended.

"We won the Slaughter case, and the Slaughter case gives the president tremendous powers that it never had before," Trump told CBS News.

"The presidency, our presidency, is considered a strong presidency," Trump continued. "You can do a lot."

Trump suggested that his veto power could force Democrats to come to the bargaining table.

"Historically, you veto for a couple of months, and then they come and say, 'We've got to make a deal,'" Trump said.

Trump, fresh off a weeks-long campaign blitz that took him across more than 20 states, remains optimistic that the GOP will outperform expectations.

"If you remember, about 30, 40 days ago, people were saying it's going to be a big loss, and now people are talking about, like we could even win it," Trump told CBS.

"I think the tour made a big difference. I did 29 days, 33 of these things, and they were all massive rallies, they were big rallies," he added. "No one has ever done anything like it. And I think we got the word out. I think we got the enthusiasm out, too."

Trump has made 30 in-person political appearances since August, including more than 27 rallies in October. He has also participated in several tele-rallies in the lead-up to Election Day.

Bills release Super Bowl champion safety after serving suspension for spitting incident

The Buffalo Bills released Super Bowl champion safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson on Tuesday following his suspension for spitting at an opponent.

Gardner-Johnson's last moment in a Bills uniform came in the first half of their Week 6 win over the Las Vegas Raiders when he spat at center Tyler Linderbaum and tight end Brock Bowers just before halftime. The 28-year-old was ejected from the game.

The Bills had their bye week in Week 7, and Gardner-Johnson served his suspension during the Bills' 36-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8. During the bye week, head coach Joe Brady initially said Gardner-Johnson would remain in the starting lineup upon his return in Week 9. However, that changed, as Gardner-Johnson is no longer on the team, much less in the starting lineup.

"It’s hard enough to win enough in this league with 48 guys, much less 47. He knows that that can’t happen, it’s inexcusable, that’s not the standard that we’re going to have and play with. He’s addressed it, it’s been addressed," Brady told reporters a couple of weeks ago about Gardner-Johnson's spitting incident.

"Those are the things that can’t happen on a football field. We want to toe the line in everything we do, but we can’t cross the line."

In six games, all starts, for the Bills this season, Gardner-Johnson recorded 26 tackles and one interception. The Bills used Gardner-Johnson's roster spot to sign defensive back Te'Cory Couch to the active roster on Oct. 31.

For Gardner-Johnson, the Bills were the sixth team he played for in his eight-year career. He won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024, starting all four games in their playoff run.

Democrats score major Senate victory as Pappas defeats Trump-backed Republican in key battleground

The Fox News Decision Desk projects that Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas of New Hampshire will defeat former Republican Sen. John E. Sununu in a competitive and expensive swing state race.

With 19.18% of the votes reported, Papas captured 60.6% compared to Sununu receiving 37.61% of the votes, according to Fox News Decision Desk. He will succeed retiring longtime Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen.

The victory by Pappas, a four-term congressman, is a boost for his party as the race was viewed as a must-hold for the Democrats as they try to win back the Senate majority from the GOP in the midterm elections.

Sununu, who was endorsed by President Donald Trump but kept his distance from the president, was aiming to return to the U.S. Senate after 18 years away. Sununu repeatedly argued that Pappas had "been in Washington for 8 years and hasn't delivered for New Hampshire."

"He has attempted very little in Congress. He's accomplished even less," Sununu told Fox News Digital recently. And he charged that Pappas would be "a rubber stamp for the far left."

But Pappas, noting that he's "been reelected three times in one of the toughest congressional districts in the country," told Fox News Digital "I work with people across the aisle, and I've been rated as one of the most bipartisan Democrats in the House."

"I've worked across the aisle on fentanyl scheduling to make sure that fentanyl analogs are Schedule One and that we're able to stay ahead of the cartels and the drugs that they're pushing into this country. I challenged Joe Biden on the border."

Pappas, a co-owner of the famed Puritan Backroom restaurant, which has been a family run business for over a century and is known for its chicken tenders and as a must-stop in Manchester for politicians, was elected to New Hampshire's five-member Executive Council before winning a seat in Congress.

He defeated a far-left socialist rival by double-digits in the state's early September primary to capture the Democratic Senate nomination.

Pappas and Democrats repeatedly anchored Sununu to Trump, whose approval ratings are well underwater in New Hampshire and around the country.

But Sununu told Fox News Digital, "This election is about New Hampshire. It's about who's going to give New Hampshire the strong independent voice we need in Washington, and that will be me...this is a six-year term. Donald Trump will be out of office in two years, and the question I have for voters is who's going to lead the country and the Senate in the right direction for New Hampshire."

Sununu spent six years in the U.S. House before winning election to the Senate in 2002, defeating then-Gov. Jeanne Shaheen. But he lost his 2008 rematch with Shaheen.

Sununu enjoyed plenty of name recognition in New Hampshire as he bid to return to the Senate. His father, John E. Sununu, served six years as governor before heading to Washington, D.C., as then-President George H.W. Bush's White House chief of staff. And one of his younger brothers, Chris Sununu, recently served eight years as governor before taking a break from politics.

College Football Playoff Rankings: Miami takes top spot, Indiana cracks top five in first official release

The first College Football Playoff rankings have been released, and despite a scare at Chapel Hill this past weekend, it’s the Miami Hurricanes taking the top spot at No. 1 overall.

It was widely expected that would be the case, though, as the official top 25 rankings for the playoffs were released on Tuesday night.

Of course, only 12 teams will be playing for the chance to win the national title when the rankings see its final call later this year.

The Hurricanes remain undefeated thanks to quarterback Darian Mensah, wide receiver Malachi Toney and running back Mark Fletcher Jr. getting the job done against Bill Belichick’s Tar Heels on Saturday night. It was no easy feat, though, as UNC gave their best shot in a back-and-forth second half until Miami finished the job.

Behind Miami in the first rankings are No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Utah, No. 4 Indiana and No. 5 Alabama, as the committee felt confident with its top five.

It was a true roller-coaster for the reigning national-champion Hoosiers and head coach Curt Cignetti, who saw some miracles take place to keep them from getting upset by Minnesota at home on Halloween.

The Golden Gopher’s Luke Drzewiecki shocked everyone in Bloomington when he drilled a 60-yard field goal to take a 16-13 lead with just 19 seconds to play in the fourth quarter. But Indiana had its own kicker, Paddy McAteer, match him with his own 60-yarder at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime, where the Hoosier escaped to move their record to 8-1.

It was an interesting choice to have the Hoosiers in the top five considering its loss to Ohio State earlier this season, and struggling to get back to dominant wins, though their record indicates just one loss.

Rounding out the top 12 teams are No. 6 Kentucky, No. 7 Texas, No. 8 UCLA, No. 9 BYU, No. 10 Ole Miss, No. 11 Notre Dame, and Ohio State is the 12th. However, they would fall out of the CFP if the season ended today, considering No. 25 Boise State, a Group of 6 team, would replace them with five conference champions guaranteed in the 12-team bracket.

The Buckeyes especially were a team to watch how the committee viewed them. With backup quarterback Luke Fahey under center now as Julian Sayin is sidelined indefinitely with a serious throwing-arm injury, they fell to USC over the weekend, 30-18. USC came in at No. 20 in the initial rankings.

These rankings will be changing in coming weeks, and all eyes will be on the Hurricanes facing Notre Dame on Saturday to see if that has any impact. The Fighting Irish are on the cusp at the moment, but a massive win over Miami would change their season trajectory. However, Notre Dame doesn’t have a win against a currently-ranked team, and there are no ranked teams in their remaining games after Miami, making this matchup a pivotal moment for the program.

"They are a very good football team," CFP committee chair Hunter Yurachek, who serves as athletic director for Arkansas, said during ESPN’s rankings show. "But when you look at Notre Dame’s schedule, and the wins that they have versus the teams that are ahead of them, they don’t have that signature win right now."

Teams on the bubble who are looking to improve their stock moving forward are No. 13 Tennessee, No. 14 LSU, No. 15 Texas Tech and No. 16 Wake Forest. Gomez Mont, the former Mexican TV host, now finds herself sitting in a Florida detention center after ICE picked her up in Miami last month over an immigration violation.

That arrest capped years on the run from a separate $160 million fraud and money laundering case back home, which originally kicked off when Mexican prosecutors obtained arrest warrants for Gomez Mont and her husband, attorney Victor Manuel Alvarez Puga, back in 2021.

Longtime NFL fans will undoubtedly remember Gomez Mont from Super Bowl week in 2008, right before the Giants famously wrecked New England’s perfect season. She showed up at Media Day in a wedding dress and veil, then proposed to Brady on live TV. He laughed it off and reminded her he was already with Gisele Bündchen.

Fast-forward nearly two decades.

Mexican prosecutors allege the couple ran a sprawling shell-company network tied to government contracts worth roughly $160 million, including prison system funds. The allegations include organized crime, money laundering and tax fraud.

Once the warrants were issued, the couple left Mexico, with Gomez Mont hopping on social media to claim her innocence before the pair was eventually tracked down in South Florida.

Mexican authorities kept up the chase.

Officials say they requested her provisional detention for extradition in late 2025 and prepped a formal request with the Department of Justice. Alvarez Puga had already been picked up by ICE on immigration violations before posting bail, and his current location has been kept quiet.

As for Gomez Mont, she remains held at the Broward Transitional Center while her legal team fights back with a sealed habeas petition. A federal judge recently shot down her emergency request to block a transfer out of South Florida, though the court did order the government to explain why her petition shouldn't be granted. That leaves her balancing two separate legal tracks: her ongoing U.S. immigration detention and Mexico’s extradition request.

Sidestepping that wedding proposal turned out to be Brady's easiest read of the week, and seven rings later, things worked out just fine.

Democrats hold firm in Georgia as Republicans fail to flip prized Senate seat

The Fox News Decision Desk projects that Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff of Georgia has defeated Republican challenger Rep. Mike Collins.

Ossoff, once considered by the GOP to be the most vulnerable Democratic senator seeking re-election in the 2026 midterms, will now keep his job representing the southeastern battleground state in the U.S. Senate. He took an early lead in the race when polls closed Tuesday night, which only expanded as the hours wore on.

His victory means Georgia, a one-time red bastion that swung to the center in recent years, will continue to have two Democrats representing the state in the Senate. He's the second Democratic senator to hold his seat on Tuesday night after Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., was also projected to win re-election.

"A workhorse for the people of Georgia, Senator Ossoff has spent the last six years in the U.S. Senate providing outstanding constituent services, standing up for children, and fighting to make life better," the Senate Democrats' campaign arm said in a statement after Ossoff's victory.

"Georgians sent him back to the Senate because they know he will always show up for them, and now he’ll continue putting Georgia families first."

Ossoff and fellow Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock were both elected in runoff elections at the end of the 2020 cycle, ending a decade and a half of Georgia's all-Republican representation in the Senate. Weeks earlier, former President Joe Biden became the first Democrat to carry the state in nearly three decades.

But Georgia shifted back to the right in 2024, with President Donald Trump reclaiming the state and winning the White House.

At the start of the 2026 cycle, Georgia was atop the GOP's target list of seats to flip, and Republicans aimed to hold their 53-47 Senate majority.

While Ossoff built a massive campaign war chest as he cruised unopposed to renomination, Collins was part of a combustible three-way GOP primary Senate battle with Rep. Buddy Carter and former college football coach Derek Dooley, who was supported by popular term-limited conservative Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp.

Collins and Dooley advanced to a June runoff, which Collins won due in part to an eleventh-hour Trump endorsement.

In the general election showdown, Collins made illegal immigration a centerpiece of his campaign, spotlighting the Laken Riley Act, which he authored. The law requires the detention of certain illegal immigrants who are arrested for, charged with, convicted of or admit to committing specified offenses. Ossoff voted for the measure but has criticized the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement tactics.

Collins also accused Ossoff of supporting policies that drove up inflation and taxes, while the senator targeted Collins over his backing of Trump's tariffs and the war in Iran, which triggered a surge in gas and diesel prices and an overall rise in the cost of living.

During their debates, Ossoff also put Collins on defense over a House ethics investigation into whether the congressman abused taxpayer funds by hiring the girlfriend of his former chief of staff for work she allegedly did not perform. Collins has insisted the issue is simply a "complaint" with no merit.

Collins also faced heat over social media posts by his son-in-law — a social media influencer on the far right — that shared Nazi imagery and antisemitic conspiracy theories.

Ossoff, meanwhile, faced questions about receiving campaign funds from Reid Hoffman, a venture capitalist whose name appeared in the Epstein files.

While GOP-aligned outside groups initially spent big bucks to back Collins and make up for his massive fundraising deficit in his battle against Ossoff, the Republican spigot was cut back substantially in the final weeks leading up to Election Day. The move was a sign that many Republicans were giving up on their hopes of flipping the Senate seat in Georgia.

Ossoff, whom pundits view as a potential 2028 Democratic presidential contender, has repeatedly said he has "zero interest" in running for the White House next cycle. And in a debate with Collins last month, he pledged to serve out his full six-year Senate term if re-elected.

The senator, a Georgia native, served as a national security staffer and legislative assistant for Rep. Hank Johnson before working as managing director of an investigative documentary production company. He first grabbed national attention in 2017, when he narrowly lost a special congressional election for a House seat that had long been a GOP stronghold.

Collins, who is also a Georgia native, is the son of the late Rep. Mac Collins. A businessman and the co-founder along with his wife of a trucking company, he was first elected to Congress in 2022.

Wild video shows military helicopters nearly being hit by pregame fireworks

Whether it was on the field or during the pregame ceremonies, the Seattle Seahawks had a rough night on Monday.

Before the Seahawks’ 34-17 loss to the Chicago Bears at Lumen Field, four UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters from the U.S. Army’s 2nd Battalion, 158th Aviation Regiment, flew over the stadium.

The only problem? The helicopters were nearly struck by some fireworks.

The timing of the fireworks was off, as the fourth helicopter had not yet cleared the stadium when the fireworks went off. Video showed the fireworks nearly hitting the last helicopter of the four.

The close call with the helicopters foreshadowed what turned into a rough night for the Seahawks. The 34 points the Seattle defense allowed were the most it had allowed all season.

Bears star quarterback Caleb Williams threw for 237 yards despite the Seahawks not allowing a 200-yard passer in their first seven weeks. The Bears had 363 yards of offense, 62 more than their previous season high.

Just eight games after winning the Super Bowl, the Seahawks find themselves at 4-4. If the season ended today, they wouldn’t make the playoffs.

In the loss to Chicago, the defense wasn’t the only unit to struggle. The Bears blocked a field goal on special teams and held the Seahawks to just 252 yards of offense, the second-lowest total for Seattle this season.

Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., said during an interview Sunday that only a "spiritually sick" country would elect President Donald Trump twice, calling the president a symptom of a larger problem.

Politico's Jonathan Martin asked Warnock if America needed a "spiritual rebirth," and Warnock said, "Absolutely."

"I think Donald Trump is a problem. He's a serious problem for our country. He's a danger," the Georgia senator added. "He's symptomatic of a deeper problem. We — only a nation that is spiritually sick could elect Donald Trump twice. There is a brokenness.

The White House did not immediately return a request for comment.

During an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper in April, Warnock, who serves as the senior pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, was asked several questions about pastors who support Trump and argue he was put in office with a divine purpose. Warnock called the Trump administration "ungodly" and likened those leaders to Christians who used the Bible to defend slavery.

FBI nabs suspect accused of sending hundreds of white powder letters to public officials: source

FIRST ON FOX: The FBI arrested an Oklahoma City man early Monday suspected of sending hundreds of letters containing suspicious white powder to public officials across the country during the 2024 and 2026 election cycles, a federal law enforcement source told Fox News Digital.

Robin Patrick Martin, 67, is charged with conveying false or misleading information and hoaxes and mailing threatening communications, according to a federal criminal complaint filed in the Western District of Oklahoma.

Federal investigators linked more than 700 suspicious mailings sent in 2026 to the same sender, according to the complaint. The letters were addressed to state election boards, Republican, Democratic and independent members of Congress, pollsters, media organizations and the FBI.

Postal inspectors and their law enforcement partners recovered the majority of the mailings before they reached their intended recipients, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).

"The alleged subject had avoided authorities until now — as the Biden administration failed to catch him — but this FBI got it done," FBI Director Kash Patel in a statement. "Every American citizen deserves a free and fair election — and anyone who attempts to undermine that process by breaking our laws and threatening public officials will be brought to justice."

The FBI's Oklahoma City field office, FBI Criminal Division, U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), U.S. Capitol Police and Oklahoma City Police Department participated in the investigation, the federal law enforcement source said.

The complaint alleges the mailings date back to September 2024, when state election officials began reporting letters containing a white powdery substance.

Investigators identified similar mailings addressed to election officials in all 50 states, 49 of which were either recovered from recipients or intercepted in the mail stream.

The initial 2024 mailings contained white powder and a three-page letter titled "DECLARATION OF WAR." The writer threatened that if certain demands were not met, another mailing would be sent to "1000's of destinations" and "it won't be flour next time," according to the complaint.

"The writer of the letter described perceived issues with the 2020 election, claimed that President Donald Trump won the 2020 election, and voiced concerns regarding some of the same issues recurring in the then-upcoming 2024 election," the complaint states.

Testing found the powders examined so far were nonhazardous substances, including yeast or flour, though not every letter has been fully tested, according to the FBI.

Investigators said some letters contained hidden messages visible under ultraviolet light. One warned recipients to remain on the "right side of history" and suggested their lives could depend on it.

Some mailings listed "U.S.T.E.A.," described as the "United States Traitor Elimination Army," as the sender and gave a return address in Takoma Park, Maryland, according to the complaint.

The FBI said surveillance footage showed a vehicle associated with Martin stopping at Postal Service mailboxes in Oklahoma City, Dallas and San Antonio in October.

Investigators also said Martin's fingerprints were found on a letter sent to FBI Director Kash Patel.

Authorities further linked Martin to Walmart purchases of turmeric and vinegar, items investigators said could be used to create writing visible under ultraviolet light.

The arrest follows a nationwide investigation into suspicious mail sent to congressional and election offices ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

The FBI said last month it was working with USPIS to investigate "a series of suspicious mailings sent to various addresses nationwide, including Secretary of State offices and their related election offices," The Associated Press reported last month.

Authorities warned recipients to treat the mailings as "potentially hazardous" while investigators worked to intercept additional letters before they reached their destinations.

The FBI said in an Oct. 23 advisory that no hazardous material had been identified in the suspicious substances tested at that point, though laboratory testing remained ongoing.

Several Senate offices reported receiving or being sent suspicious mail.

Martin on Tuesday appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Shon Erwin for his initial appearance in Oklahoma City.

Voters in multiple states encountered paper ballot shortages on Election Day Tuesday, and some left polling places without casting ballots as election officials scrambled to address disruptions during the high-stakes 2026 midterms.

Ballot shortages were reported at polling locations in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland as voters headed to the polls Tuesday.

In Linwood, Kansas, where voters were casting ballots in a closely watched Senate race as Republicans fight to maintain control of the chamber, a ballot shortage forced some voters to leave their polling place without casting a ballot after election officials failed to provide enough ballots to meet demand.

"The shortage was discovered early, and efforts to correct the mistake began immediately. We recognize the importance of ensuring that every eligible voter has the opportunity to cast a ballot. We sincerely apologize for this mistake and any inconvenience or concern it may have caused," the press release said.

FLORIDA POLLING PLACES IN 7 COUNTIES ARE MOVING LOCATIONS DUE TO FLOODING

"The number of ballots needed was 1,000, the polling station received only 100. The situation has since been remedied since early this morning, and voters are able to vote," the Kansas Secretary of State communications spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

In Chicago, voters encountered ballot shortages at several polling locations, prompting election officials to deliver additional ballots and direct voters to alternative voting centers, according to ABC7 Chicago.

"There are several precincts for which the board is printing and delivering extra paper ballots and possible extra touch-screen voting machines. As far as we know, no voters have been turned away or unable to vote," the Chicago Board of Elections told the outlet.

"It's not unusual for an election authority to have to supply additional ballots to a polling place if turnout is higher than anticipated," Illinois State Board of Elections Public Information Officer Matt Dietrich told Fox News Digital.

"We've heard from voters that there are lines at some Chicago polling places but, again, that's not out of the ordinary in a general election."

In Brandywine, Maryland, voters faced long lines and delays Tuesday after Brandywine Elementary School, a polling location in Prince George’s County, ran out of paper ballots, according to local outlet WJLA.

The school did not have correct ballots, which were later corrected, Prince George’s County Board of Elections Administrator Wendy Honesty-Bey told local outlet The Banner.

"The State Board of Election's (SBE) mission is to ensure voting occurs. We, of course, conduct lessons learned after every election and will do so after this election. While ballot shortages may be gripping some polling precincts, voting machines in Westchester County, New York, are rejecting paper ballots at polling locations throughout the county.

"A change affecting a contest in one municipality required updated election programming, which was subsequently tested and deployed for early voting and for Election Day machines in that municipality," the county’s Board of Elections said in a statement.

The Justice Department sent out more than 20 target and preservation letters as part of its investigation into Daniel J. Sullivan’s campaign for U.S. Senate in Alaska, two sources familiar with the investigation told Fox News Digital.

President Donald Trump's DOJ launched in July its investigation into the retired schoolteacher suspected of being recruited as a spoiler candidate in the race against Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, earning him the nickname "Decoy Dan."

A source familiar with the investigation said more than 120 subpoenas have been issued since the probe began this summer. The investigation initially focused on whether Daniel J. Sullivan’s candidacy was intended to confuse voters and undermine the fairness of the election.

"This is a situation where everybody agrees that there is a FRAUD on the ballot," Attorney General Todd Blanche told Fox News Digital. "Everybody agrees that there is a man running that doesn't want to run, that doesn't expect to be senator, that is only running to confuse Alaskan voters."

Last Thursday, the Trump administration issued more than 30 subpoenas in a 24-hour period following a New York Times report detailing alleged coordination between the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Democratic operatives and people connected to Mary Peltola’s campaign to recruit Sullivan, a source familiar told Fox News Digital.

The New York Times first reported on Election Day that the Justice Department had issued the letter notifying individuals that they were under investigation and letters notifying individuals to preserve their communications and documentations.

The report named Marc Elias, an election lawyer whose firm Elias Law Group has represented Peltola, and an official from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, as recipients of those notices. It is not clear who else has received comment preservation or target letters.

"You had the Democrat Party headed up by Elias, their lawyer, who was a bad guy, very bad guy — should go to jail, in my opinion," Trump shared on "Fox & Friends Tuesday." "But you had the Democrat Party look all over Alaska for somebody named Sullivan."

Trump also suggested that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer should be held "criminally responsible," as well.

Sources familiar with the investigation shared with Fox News Digital that the letters were not sent exclusively to Democratic officials, but they would not give more information or provide specifics about who the recipients were or how many received target versus preservation letters.

The letters were not sent out on Election Day.

Alaska Republican Gov. Mike Dunleavy argued this the state's nonpartisan primary system is to blame for allowing Daniel J. Sullivan to advance to the general election. Under Alaskan's election system, the top four finishers regardless of their party will advance. Daniel J. Sullivan did not run under any political party.

"If this was a historical primary, a primary that our fathers and grandfathers had, this individual [retired schoolteacher Dan Sullivan of Petersburg] would not have gotten out of the primary," Dunleavy told Fox News Digital.

The heightened focus in the Alaskan Senate race comes after the New York Times investigation last week, which followed with Alaska U.S. Attorney Michael Heyman officially announcing at a news conference Friday the investigation into Daniel J. Sullivan's campaign. Heyman did not say at the news conference what criminal charges are being pursued.

Man, 86, and his dog rescued hundreds of miles off California coast after going silent for 2 months

An 86-year-old man and his dog were rescued from a disabled sailboat drifting hundreds of miles off the California coast after he had not been heard from for more than two months.

The man was sailing from Astoria, Oregon, to Pago Pago, American Samoa, when contact with him was lost Aug. 20, the U.S. Coast Guard announced Friday.

Authorities were alerted Oct. 24 that he was overdue, launching a search for him and his sailboat, the Willow Wind.

Three days later, the Coast Guard received an emergency beacon alert from the boat and sent aircraft and a cutter to search the area. Nearby ships were also asked to assist.

"Watchstanders coordinated the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento C-27 Spartan aircrew and diverted an HC-130 Hercules aircrew and the Coast Guard Cutter Robert Ward (WPC 1130), and requested assistance from nearby vessels," the Coast Guard said.

A Coast Guard aircrew spotted the Willow Wind that evening about 460 miles off San Diego.

The motor vessel Grand Orion reached the sailboat early the next morning, but rough seas initially made it too dangerous to rescue the man and his dog.

Later that day, the Grand Orion crew was able to safely bring them aboard. The Willow Wind had damaged sails and was left drifting at sea.

The following morning, a Coast Guard helicopter crew picked up the man and his dog from the Grand Orion about 170 miles west of Ventura, California.

They were flown to San Diego, where the man was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital for further evaluation.

The Coast Guard did not provide additional details about his condition.

Tuesday morning, far-left sports blogger Mike Florio announced that he planned not to vote in the 2026 midterm elections.

Florio described his decision as a "conscious protest against a system that is corrupt, ugly, and broken."

The midterm elections will determine control of Congress, with voters also deciding a series of gubernatorial, state legislative, and local races. Apparently, Florio concluded that his most meaningful contribution would be staying home.

That lasted a few hours.

Despite the lack of reaction to his announcement, Florio changed his mind Tuesday afternoon and said he would vote after all.

"I've decided it's more important to exercise the right, and to hope that those who are elected will behave differently," he explained on X.

"Thanks for letting us know, Mike. I was waiting with bated breath to hear whether you were going to vote for far left wingers again," OutKick founder Clay Travis joked.

One of the many side effects of conference realignment and the advent of the College Football Playoff has been the decline of importance placed on traditional rivalries.

An obvious example of this is the pause currently underway of the "Greatest Intersectional Rivalry" in college sports, the long-standing game between the USC Trojans and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Both schools had some clear reasons for declining to schedule each other in 2027, with SC now in the Big Ten Conference, and sure enough, the rivalry won't be played until 2030 at the earliest.

But even within conferences, the supersized alignment and desire to align all teams around a nine-game schedule has created necessary changes. Even with one of the sport's best rivalries in recent seasons: the Alabama Crimson Tide vs. the LSU Tigers.

This weekend, the two teams meet in Baton Rouge, with tremendous College Football Playoff implications. It's a huge game for this year's postseason. And it's also the last of 63 consecutive seasons where Alabama and LSU have faced off.

The Tide and Tigers will play again in 2028, but the current format of the SEC's future schedules means they won't play each other every year moving forward. LSU head coach Lane Kiffin isn't a fan of that arrangement, blaming the influence of "money" in the sport for the change in tradition.

"I think that's just sad," Kiffin said. "And I understand, so I'm not being critical. All the decisions, usually, I think all of them probably really come down to money, whether that's the realignments, whether that's the rivalries. So, I think it's all sad in general in the big picture of things that money drives to make [changes to] such great traditions and rivalries.

"And there's really good things that have changed in college football over the years, but there's also a lot that I think myself and a lot of people wish that they were the way that they were, rivalries and conferences the same. And so unfortunately it's where we are that really doesn't seem like much is going to be protected when it comes to TV contracts and money and other people's ideas."

Kiffin's right; money is the driving factor in all college football decisions these days, and many traditional aspects of the sport have, and will be, upended as administrators and officials look to find every last available dollar. Like some coaches who say, bolt a job after having some success for a bigger payday at another school. But it's an unavoidable consequence of push to standardize scheduling as much as possible.

Speaking of scheduling, while Kiffin was right to lament the changes to the rivalry, he was a bit, uh, forgetful, when talking about the time of day for this year's Alabama-LSU game.

While the atmosphere for night games at LSU is legendary, this year's contest will be played at ... 2:30 p.m. local time. Not an unusual starting time for a college football game, but not the late-night advantage LSU fans and their head coach would be hoping for.

Kiffin had a message for Tigers fans, and some advice on how they could prepare for the earlier than normal start time. On Monday, he said in a news conference that the noise during the Bama-Tennessee game clearly affected their offense, which he believes could be duplicated at Death Valley.

"Tennessee supposedly set the noise record against Alabama, which you can see in that game effecting Alabama’s offense," he said. "That was a 2:30 central kick."

The noise, he continued, could help their players out. As for how to generate noise earlier in the day? He had an answer for that too: "start drinking earlier."

"We want our players to play well," Kiffin said. "We want out coaches to play well. If you are used to 6:30, four hours earlier, start your day earlier.

"Have breakfast earlier. Start drinking earlier, whatever is your routine, just move it up.

"Go to bed earlier Friday night."

As if Tigers fans need any encouragement.

Kiffin went on to complain further about the start time, saying that the Tigers-Tide matchup has always been at night.

"Especially in 16 years, this game has been at night here all the time," he said. "I never even considered that it wouldn’t be at night. So, I guess that’s probably naive of me."

Interestingly, while still with Ole Miss a few years ago, he had an opposite perspective when it comes to SEC scheduling, saying, "LSU gets to play at night again, I guess? Shocker. That’s two for two for them. I feel bad for our fans not having one night conference game."

Well, well, well, how the turn tables.

Time of day might be a bit of an advantage, and in a game expected to be as evenly matched as this one, any advantage helps. But Kiffin's first season rests on getting a big win in a tough rivalry game, which is why he's started with the excuses already. Spanish soccer player Jesús de Miguel dies after on-field collision as authorities open investigation

His teammates affectionately called him "Demi," while soccer fans across Spain simply knew him as Jesús de Miguel. His death was confirmed Tuesday, one day after the beloved athlete was critically injured in an in-game collision.

De Miguel’s career followed a path familiar to many professional soccer players. He worked to make a living from the sport, moving from club to club throughout Spain’s lower divisions.

Born in Madrid in 1996, De Miguel began his career with Leganés’ reserve team in 2015. The striker went on to play for several clubs in and around the Spanish capital.

De Miguel’s most productive season came after he joined Castellón in 2023. His 16 goals helped the club earn promotion to the second division.

After struggling to score in the second tier, De Miguel left mainland Spain in the summer of 2025 for Tenerife in the Canary Islands.

Back in the third division, he scored six goals in his first five games and finished with 11, helping the blue-and-white club earn another promotion.

Left-footed and 6-foot-2, De Miguel was a traditional striker who made his living competing for balls in the air.

On Monday, he was sprinting through the middle of the field at Tenerife’s home stadium, chasing a long pass from a teammate in stoppage time of a 2-2 draw with FC Andorra. That was when De Miguel was blind-sided by the Andorra goalkeeper rushing out of his area.

De Miguel crashed to the ground, curled onto his knees and flopped over on his back, his arms at his side. He suffered cardiac arrest and passed away the following morning in hospital.

De Miguel was 30 and is survived by his daughter, who was born last year, and her mother.

Former teammate Fernando Román wrote on social media that he was devastated by the death of a friend he described as "humble, hard-working … above all a good person."

Tenerife said Miguel’s body would be transported to Navahermosa, in the Toledo province, at the request of his family, and his teammates and club officials would be present for a "final farewell."

"We need to give Demi the tribute he deserves," said Tenerife president Felipe Miñambres. "And from that point on we will always carry him in our hearts."

Spanish police have opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding De Miguel’s death, including whether the collision could constitute involuntary manslaughter. The case is under judicial supervision, and Spanish law requires an investigation into deaths from non-natural causes, including accidents.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife chief prosecutor José Luis Sánchez-Jáuregui told the Spanish news agency EFE that criminal proceedings appeared unlikely because the collision occurred during play. He added that authorities must first consider the referee’s report and the findings of the sports disciplinary committee.

Podcaster Joe Rogan argued Saturday that progressive ideology has replaced religion for many on the left and that some are injecting their political beliefs into Christianity.

Rogan said he believed the left was "much more loony" than the right because a large portion of the left has embraced secularism.

"Like when you think about the left, you generally don't think about like Christianity or any religion really. It's more of like a science-based like, ‘We're too smart for that thing.’ And I think they're just lost," Rogan said on his podcast. "There's no moral scaffolding to hold on to."

Rogan went on to argue that having a shared code like the Ten Commandments and showing humility toward a higher power are good for society. He said that for many liberals, far-left political ideology has become their new religion, to the point where they try to inject their liberal beliefs into traditional Christianity.

"Another thing that's interesting with the religious thing when it comes to the left is there's been this larger than normal presence of these, like, LGBT pastors and these people that are promoting a very different Christianity," Rogan said. "They're talking about things that, you know, biblical scholars are like, ‘Hey, wait, what page is this on? What? Where does it say abortion's OK? Like, how are you getting to that? Where does it say God's non-binary?’"

Rogan went on to say that if anything in the Bible is due for a modern reckoning, it would be biblical passages about slavery and genocidal warfare first, long before people try questioning God’s gender identity.

His guest, "Triggernometry" co-host Francis Foster, agreed, recalling his Catholic upbringing and comparing it with a more modernized Church of England service. Foster said that if one is going to be religious, you want "the real deal," a faith that takes itself seriously.

"You want to hear the Latin!" Rogan said.

"You want the good stuff," Foster continued, noting that a genuine religion needs a sense of moral consequences for bad deeds and saying, "You want to sit there and think to yourself, ‘F---, I'm going to hell, and it's going to be awful.’"

Bishop Robert Barron, founder of Word on Fire and Bishop of Winona-Rochester in Minnesota, told Fox News Digital he largely agreed with the substance of Rogan's take.

"For the past several decades, various forms of liberal Christianity have compromised the doctrinal content of the faith, first turning the great dogmas into vague symbols and subsequently evacuating them completely in favor of the progressive political agenda," he said. "The test is whether someone can honestly and with enthusiasm subscribe to the Apostles’ Creed. Does he believe in God, in the divinity of Jesus, in the power of the Holy Spirit, in the objective truth of the Resurrection? If not, he is using classical Christianity as a smokescreen."
