Ferran Torres sports 'Make Spain Great Again' hat similar to Trump's slogan at World Cup homecoming parade

Trump presented the World Cup trophy to Spain after Torres' goal beat Argentina in extra time

Spain’s World Cup Final hero, Ferran Torres, decided to celebrate the country’s victory on Monday with a nod to President Donald Trump.

As tens of thousands of Spaniards welcomed home their World Cup-winning team during a victory parade, Torres, who scored the winning goal in the 106th minute to beat Argentina at New York/New Jersey Stadium, was seen wearing a "Make Spain Great Again" hat – an adaptation of Trump’s "Make America Great Again" slogan.

Torres posted a picture with the mob of Spain faithful while on a vehicle, while donning the hat and no shirt.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

While it could simply be a coincidence that Torres decided to choose that hat for his celebration fit, Trump did present the World Cup trophy to Spain captain Rodrí and the rest of the team on the pitch after their victory.

Trump had been taking in the suspenseful final , which Spain dominated throughout, alongside First Lady Melania Trump and FIFA president Gianni Infantino, among others.

SPAIN BEATS ARGENTINA TO WIN 2026 FIFA WORLD CUP BEHIND FERRAN TORRES' EXTRA-TIME GOAL

The match was on its way to a penalty shootout had it not been for Torres’ efforts to finally get one past Argentina’s stellar goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, who needed to make miraculous saves just to keep the scoreboard deadlocked at zero apiece.

But when Nico Williams Jr.’s header was dropped back in the box following a cross, Torres had a grade-A chance to net the ball that landed right at his left foot. He didn’t disappoint.

"I think in the end the goal came from 47 million people [the estimated Spain population], not just those of us that are here," Torres told FIFA host broadcasters after the match, via ESPN. "Today destiny was written, it was made for us to win. We’re far from our people today but we tried to be as close as possible to them."

It was just the second time Spain had made it to the World Cup Final, but just as they did in 2010, they left with trophy in hand and were prepared to go celebrate with the masses back home.

When the final whistle blew on Sunday, there was some controversy, as brawls broke out on the pitch between Argentina and Spain players, which FIFA will be investigating.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

But back home, especially in Madrid, the capital of Spain, it was a party that started late at night and hasn’t stopped since.

Torres and the rest of his teammates will be sure to soak in this wonderful moment before they all head back to their respective clubs to begin their seasons in the coming months.

Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Trump admin taunts left for ‘praying’ for World Cup disaster as DOT touts record numbers

'The Left was praying for an American transit disaster,' charged DOT Secretary Sean Duffy

EXCLUSIVE: President Donald Trump’s Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is claiming victory over the left after a successful FIFA World Cup tournament that saw record-shattering numbers of fans moving through the U.S.

Several million FIFA fans flocked to American stadiums this year, putting an enormous strain on federal, state and local transportation networks. However, aided in part by a more than a $100 million DOT infrastructure investment to World Cup host cities, the tournament went off without any major incidents, prompting Duffy to taunt doomsayers who predicted the country would fall on its face.

"The Left was praying for an American transit disaster as we hosted the most important international sporting event in modern history," Duffy told Fox News Digital.

"They were wrong, and President Trump was right."

FBI BOSS KASH PATEL DETAILS HOW AGENCY AND PARTNERS SECURED RECORD-SHATTERING FIFA WORLD CUP

Among the naysayers was Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., who in April accused the Trump administration of endangering FIFA fans by "systematically dismantling security agencies, delaying critical security assistance, and initiating a war with Iran." All this, Gallego said, made the country’s top security agency, the Department of Homeland Security, "woefully unprepared to accomplish its mission."

Gallego remarked that "if state and local officials do not trust that federal employees will coordinate in lockstep and operate as partners, they will be unable to protect their communities—increasing threat risk and compromising Americans’ safety in the process." He added that "this self-imposed chaos extends to the Trump administration’s management of federal departments and agencies."

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., took a similar tone, asserting ahead of the tournament that "Trump cares more about being on international TV at midfield on match day than actually hosting successful games."

In May, The Atlantic published a piece titled "Another Way America Will Choke at the World Cup," in which the author predicted that "in the coming months, America’s patchwork railway system will be similarly challenged—and its weaknesses exposed—across all 11 U.S. sites of World Cup matches."

Nathaniel Sizemore, a spokesperson for the agency, told Fox News Digital that it was "the Left’s TDS [Trump derangement syndrome]" that "put them in the absurd position of praying for an American transit disaster."

PRESIDENT TRUMP STEALS PART OF SPOTLIGHT AS SPAIN CELEBRATES WORLD CUP TITLE OVER ARGENTINA

However, with the World Cup officially concluded, the results are in and, according to DOT, they are conclusive. The department said that, aided by its $100.3 million in federal funding to host cities, local transit systems accommodated record-breaking numbers.

During the World Cup, Atlanta saw more than 2 million riders use public transit to get to matches, fan fests, and other events, with match-day ridership reaching up to three times the typical average.

In Seattle, DOT said that more than 1.1 million combined riders used city public transit during the first two matches alone. On July 6, the city’s light rail system accommodated 309,000 riders, blowing well past the system’s single-day record of 220,000 riders.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia, which also hosted this year’s MLB All-Star Game, saw an average of 27,000 riders using public transit per match. The city’s PHLASH bus service recorded a 500 percent increase in ridership.

Even cities not previously known for their public transit systems accommodated record numbers. Kansas City saw a one-day record for streetcar riders at 48,260 on June 27. Los Angeles saw a 598 percent increase in rider taps on World Cup match day compared to a typical Friday.

To put it further in perspective, DOT said that in San Francisco, an average of more than 38,000 fans moved to and from World Cup matches using public transit, exceeding Super Bowl LX’s numbers by nearly 8,000.

DOT is not the only one that noticed the U.S. public transit system performing.

At the start of the tournament, Vox ran a piece titled "The World Cup has a Trump problem." In the piece, the outlet accused Trump of "actively hindering" the World Cup and other sporting events, especially through the president’s "hostility to all immigrants … especially to non-white ones." Yet, ahead of the final match, Vox wrote that "the nation’s widely expected World Cup public transit meltdown has simply not materialized."

RILEY GAINES: WORLD CUP VISITORS ARE REMINDING AMERICANS WHAT MAKES THIS COUNTRY GREAT

The outlet said that "to the surprise of pretty much everyone, US cities have managed to absorb the influx of fans with relative ease, even under the pressure of record ridership en route to stadiums, watch parties, and fan zones."

Duffy, however, was not surprised.

"Whether they flew, took passenger rail, hopped on public transit, or hit the open road, Americans and visitors alike saw the best of our nation over the last month," he told Fox News Digital.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

He added that "from the FTA's investment into local public transit to the FAA’s work keeping our skies safe, we were proud to help FIFA fans get to the games safely and on time."

Fox News Digital reached out to Gallego, Schumer, The Atlantic and Vox for comment.

Retired Lt. Col. running for Congress backs Trump Iran strategy: 'He's ending a 47-year conflict'

'Obviously, the conservative people in the northern Nevada area wanted a conservative in this seat'

Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Dave Flippo knows a thing or two about winning a fight. During his military career he deployed around the world, including serving as a maintenance and logistics officer in Iraq during the lead up to the 2003 invasion. Currently, he's locked in a tough battle in a Republican-leaning open swing district comprising an enormous chunk of northern Nevada.

Nevada may be the best bellwether state west of the Mississippi. It's a hotly contested state with a booming economy and an exploding population marked by a familiar theme in politics: a stark divide between its rural and urban populations.

JOE LOMBARDO CRUISES PAST SIX GOP CHALLENGERS TO SECURE NEVADA REPUBLICAN GUBERNATORIAL NOMINATION

Trump won Nevada by a modest margin in 2024, and Governor Joe Lombardo defeated a Democrat incumbent in 2022. Yet three of its four congressional districts are blue, as are both of its Senate seats. The Democrats hold both chambers of the state legislature by large margins.

Flippo won the Republican nomination despite having a well-known establishment-backed primary opponent in the Nevada legislature:

"Well, up in the north, it's an R+7 district, and Trump won that district by 14. It's a conservative district. And running against the establishment versus a conservative candidate who had been endorsed by Turning Point, Club for Growth, President Trump endorsed me. Obviously, the conservative people in the northern Nevada area wanted a conservative in this seat."

Having never held elected office, Flippo presents his newcomer status as an advantage, rather than a liability:

"I beat the establishment. I think people are tired of the establishment politicians, the politicians that…are there just to be a moderate, be that middle ground. I think we need fighters in Congress.

"I think we need people in Congress that are ready to stand up, stand up for the American people, and here in Nevada, stand up for Nevadans."

Flippo spent much of his military career in the Middle East. He argues that Trump's Iran policy is ending a war, not starting one:

"What President Trump is doing with the Strait of Hormuz and Iran, this has been a 47-year conflict. Some in the media have been saying that Trump is starting a forever war, but in my opinion, he's ending it.

"Most all of my career was in the Middle East, fighting because of Iran and what they're doing with Israel and with Hezbollah and Hamas and the Houthis. What Iran has done is over, and things are going to change, and President Trump sees that.

"I fully support what President Trump is doing. We need to open up the strait, it needs to be a clear waterway. We need the flow of oil to start again."

The voters of northern Nevada want a constitutional conservative, Flippo argues, and he is prepared to deliver results on budgetary issues, as the exploding national debt approaches $40 trillion.

"We have to get to a balanced budget. We have to get this deficit under control. What are we, $39 trillion in debt now and it keeps climbing? Something has to be done. We have to stop spending money that we don't have.

"We need to stop expanding government. And that's what's been happening over the years. We just keep expanding and expanding. You know, I'm a constitutional conservative: government has four purposes and if you go beyond those four purposes, it belongs to the states.

"And the government has taken on so much now that we just keep getting more and more in debt. And it's time that we have representatives in Congress that are ready to stop that."

Illegal immigration is a signature issue for Flippo, who paints the problem in economic terms, and is concerned about its impact on a variety of pressing public policy issues.

"lllegal immigration is a problem in the United States. And if you look at what's happened in the last six years under Biden and the open borders policies and the 20 to 30 million people that were allowed to come in, what has that done? It's caused housing costs to go up.

NEVADA LT GOV: ELON MUSK COULD MAKE SPACE TOURISM STATE'S NEXT BIG INDUSTRY

"That's a supply and demand issue. 20 million people. That's 20 cities the size of Las Vegas, right? What does that mean? That means all those schools, the police departments, the fire departments, all those social service programs. All that has to be paid for by tax dollars, by taxpayers. 20 cities the size of Las Vegas, 40 cities the size of Reno. That's a lot. That's a lot to ask for the taxpayers to come in all at once."

While the district leans Republican, the Democrats believe they have fielded a formidable candidate in former Nevada Assembly Majority Leader Teresa Benitez-Thompson. Flippo is not taking anything for granted, but believes the contrast between his conservative outlook and her left-wing voting record will play to his advantage.

"She's a big government [supporter], big spender. She's voted to raise taxes 12 times here in Nevada. She voted for the largest tax increase in Nevada's history. She voted for Planned Parenthood funding. She voted for drivers licenses for illegals. I mean, she has a voting record that she says she's very proud of. And I don't believe that's something to be proud of."

Finally, Flippo believes that Trump's support is a net asset in his district, and believes that support, along with the backing of Gov. Lombardo, will carry a lot of weight.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

"My district in northern Nevada, District 2, is an R+7 that Trump won by 14. So Trump obviously carries some weight in northern Nevada. It's a conservative part of this state, which is different than the southern part.

"Getting on a team with the governor being united, getting the vote out is going to be critical. And having Trump on my side up in the north is going to be a huge factor in winning this."

Hunter Biden reveals he never wanted Joe Biden to run for re-election, but refused to tell him to stop

Hunter Biden said he worried about Joe Biden serving again as president because the job 'is an all-consuming thing'

Hunter Biden revealed in an interview on Saturday that he never wanted his father, former President Joe Biden, to run for a second term.

Over the past few months, Hunter has been on a podcast tour speaking out about what it was like to be Biden’s son during his presidency and offering his take on politics. Following the full federal pardon granted by his father in December 2024, Hunter has made use of his freedom to speak off-the-cuff.

During the recent interview with NPR, Hunter was asked by the host of NPR’s "Newsmakers" whether he wanted his father to have run for re-election in the first place.

"No. No," Hunter replied.

EX-BIDEN STAFFER BLAMES BIDEN'S 'HUBRIS' FOR THE 'HELLSCAPE THAT WE LIVE IN': REPORT

When asked whether he had told then-President Joe Biden this, Hunter answered, "No. I told him this, is that I would like I'd done my entire life, is that I supported whatever he thought was best as it related to what he wanted to do to serve."

"There was nothing that was more important to me than getting my dad back, getting my family back," he added further. "And the presidency does something that people I don't think fully comprehend. A president — it's almost impossible for a president to be fully present in the lives of the people that he loves the most, because it is literally all-consuming. It is an all-consuming thing."

Hunter rejected reports that he had egged his dad on to stay in the running, replying, "Literally nothing could be further from the truth, and I think that they know that."

He then turned the question around on the media and asked, "But just from a logical perspective, what would I possibly have to gain to continue to be the target that I was?"

JILL BIDEN SAYS FORMER PRESIDENT WILL LIVE WITH STAGE 4 CANCER 'FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE,' HAS SLOWED DOWN

"The four years of his presidency were, I think, by anybody's estimation, a really difficult four years — a lot of it my own making, but a lot of it just simply because of who he was and the position that he held — in which the struggles that I was trying to overcome in sobriety, sober this entire time, building a family and rebuilding a family, to do it while he was president was maybe one of the most difficult things that I can ever imagine putting someone through," he said.

"And more than anything, I just wanted to have my dad back," he concluded.

The NPR host then asked whether he let his father know about these concerns before he decided to run for re-election. Hunter replied that he only aired these concerns after Joe had made his choice, arguing that otherwise it would have been unfair to burden his father with his own concerns.

"No, because I think it's unfair for me to do because this — because I know this also. There's only one thing my dad cares about more than his service, and that's me and my mom, my sister, and his grandkids, my children," he said. "There's only one thing that he cared about more than his job, and that's his family. And for somebody in his family, particularly me, to say, 'Dad, please don't do it,' I don't know how — I think that's incredibly unfair to do to somebody. I would never want to be that. I would never want it to be the reason that he didn't fulfill what he believed was his duty and service."

CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Wholesome exchange between popular cosplayer and WWE Superstar Stephanie Vaquer at Fanatics Fest went viral

Fabibi World Cosplay's handmade Stephanie Vaquer tribute went viral after the WWE star signed her costume

There was more to this weekend's Fanatics Fest than Tom Brady's continued bizarre back and forth with Logan Paul. The slap and the rumors of the best quarterback who ever lived climbing in a wrestling ring filled up some timelines.

Others had more wholesome content for them to consume. If you were one of the lucky ones, in addition to the Brady-Paul nonsense, you had a Chilean cosplayer and a Chilean professional wrestler meeting one another.

Popular cosplayer Fabiola Morales, known as Fabibi World Cosplay, showed up to the event dressed as WWE Superstar Stephanie Vaquer. The two shared a special moment and the cosplayer even left with an autograph.

ZERO BS. JUST DAKICH. TAKE THE DON’T @ ME PODCAST ON THE ROAD. DOWNLOAD NOW!

"It was an honor to pay tribute to my fellow Chilean, meet her in person, and receive her autograph on my cosplay," Fabibi World Cosplay wrote after meeting Vaquer.

"Thank you, Stephanie, for being so kind to every fan and for proudly representing Chile on the world’s biggest stage. So proud of you, La Primera."

LIV MORGAN RETURNS TO THE TOP OF WOMEN’S DIVISION WITH WRESTLEMANIA 42 WIN OVER STEPHANIE VAQUER

The exchange between the two and much of the content surrounding the cosplayer paying homage to the wrestler went viral on social media. Especially the "100% handmade costume" that was a "100% faithful design to the original."

You don't have to go out of your way with a phony beef to get noticed, as a couple of Chilean ladies who enjoy the intricacies of a well-designed costume can attest to. A touching meeting will do.

Put your all into something and the rewards follow closely behind. That's the message being delivered here with a simple tribute to a pro wrestler.

OUTKICK IS NOW ON THE FOX APP: CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD

The effort was acknowledged with a hug and an autograph directly on the costume. It doesn't get much better than that at one of these things.

There was, I think we can all agree, some magic that took place when Fabiola Morales and Stephanie Vaquer met in New York City this weekend.

I'll take them over Tom Brady and Logan Paul any day.

New York Times torched for ‘FALSE’ reporting on ICE investigations, outlet fires back

The Times stands by its story, saying federal agents were told the FBI would no longer probe immigration encounters.

The Department of Homeland Security and The New York Times are going toe-to-toe after the agency accused the outlet of "false" reporting alleging that federal agents across the country were told that the FBI would not be investigating confrontations with ICE officers.

"This is FALSE," DHS posted on social media. The agency said that "the relationship between DHS and [the Justice Department] in investigating assault on federal officer cases has NOT changed, and [the FBI] will continue to investigate in accordance with agency policy."

"This administration has been clear, anyone who assaults law enforcement will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," DHS added.

In response, Danielle Rhoades Ha, a spokesperson for The New York Times, said the outlet stands by its reporting, telling Fox News Digital, "We're confident in the accuracy of our reporting, which revealed that Federal agents around the country were told in recent days that the F.B.I. would no longer investigate confrontations with immigration agents."

TRUMP BLASTS NEW YORK TIMES, CNN FOR 'SEDITIOUS' COVERAGE OF IRAN WAR

Rhoades Ha pointed out that the story "included a joint statement from the Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security denying that such a change would be enacted."

The outlet reported that federal agents around the country were told in recent days that the FBI would no longer investigate confrontations with immigration agents, cases that The New York Times wrote, "Sometimes yield evidence that could be used to prosecute Department of Homeland Security agents implicated in violent encounters."

The Times wrote that if such a policy were enacted it would "sharply limit law enforcement scrutiny of immigration agents" and be "effectively leaving the agency to investigate itself."

FBI DIRECTOR KASH PATEL, NEW YORK TIMES CLASH OVER PAPER'S CLAIM ITS REPORTER WAS 'INVESTIGATED'

The outlet added that this comes as the Trump administration "draws mounting criticism over killings at the hands of federal officers."

ICE officers were involved in two fatal shootings this month in Maine and Texas. This has led to renewed protests against immigration enforcement operations. DHS, meanwhile, has called attention to significantly increased attacks on federal law enforcement officers in the line of duty.

In response to The New York Times, DHS and DOJ doubled down that the report is categorically false and that the relationship between the two agencies has not changed.

HARRIS CALLS FOR ICE PROBE AFTER MAINE SHOOTING AMID RENEWED 'BORDER CZAR' CRITICISM

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

In a joint DHS-DOJ statement shared with Fox News Digital, the agencies reaffirmed they are "partners in addressing crime and upholding the rule of law, while securing the safety and security of American communities."

Obama warns Vance is pushing 'blood and soil' version of 'We the People' mantra

The former president claimed during a recent discussion that issues from the Reconstruction era are 'still there'

Former President Barack Obama suggested Thursday that Vice President JD Vance was pushing a "blood and soil" vision for the country despite being married to the "daughter of an immigrant."

The vice president came up as Obama was discussing the Reconstruction era with author Malcolm Gladwell, claiming that the issues from that era are still being discussed today.

"It’s impossible to spend a lot of time thinking about Reconstruction without reflecting on the present day, right?" Obama said. "Because these issues are — well, they’re still there. If somebody is asking why it is relevant to talk about Reconstruction, I have to describe for them the degree to which we’re having the same arguments. The issues of: How are we going to help the freed people who’ve been enslaved? What are we going to give them to allow them to have a go at life? What does real freedom mean?"

'GROSS' SLATE PIECE COMES UNDER FIRE FOR SUGGESTING USHA VANCE PREGNANCY IS POLITICAL STRATEGY

He argued that more directly, they continue to debate over voting rights after the Supreme Court ruling on race-based congressional gerrymandering as well as Vance's political party pushing for a "certain kind of people."

"We have a politics now that at least one of our major parties has been captured by politics that is not that subtle about suggesting that 'We the people' means a certain kind of people," Obama said. "When you have the vice president, current vice president, making a speech that is basically a blood and soil version of 'We the people,' that it matters who your parents were and how long they've been here despite him being married to a daughter of an immigrant himself."

He continued, "That echoes, then, ideas about who can be a citizen, who belongs, who gets to make decisions. So all these issues are still being debated, sometimes not as bluntly and explicitly as they have in the past, but they're still there."

OBAMA CLAIMS HE OCCUPIES 'A SUITE' IN TRUMP'S MIND, QUESTIONS THE PRESIDENT'S FOCUS ON AMERICANS

"Blood and soil" refers to a phrase popularized by Nazi Germany and associated with White nationalism.

Gladwell went on to accuse Vance of "hypocrisy" for attempting to make a "nativist argument" while being married to Usha Vance, the daughter of Indian immigrants. Obama agreed that Vance was a hypocrite but conceded that it was progress compared to a century prior.

"That is progress. Listen, hypocrisy is progress. It is, because it means that you feel guilty enough to either lie to yourself or others. And that is better than not even thinking about the idea that maybe you’re doing something wrong," Obama said.

Fox News Digital reached out to Vance's office for comment.

Vance's most recent speech was earlier this month honoring America's 250th birthday on July 4 in New York. During his remarks, he urged Americans to reject the "two-dimensional view" of the country based on its failings.

'OBAMA BRO' PODCASTER RAILS AGAINST JD VANCE'S CHANCES IN 2028, CLAIMS 'NO ONE LIKES HIM!'

"So what I'd ask you to do, my fellow Americans, on our 250th birthday, is to reject the two-dimensional view of your fellow citizens and reject the two-dimensional view of your country. Reject that America is a place for zero-sum thinking because it is not. Our history is one of people carving a great civilization out of the wilderness. Reject the view of your nation that sees only its sins, but not its grace and its greatness. Everything that we have done, everything that we've done as a country, we have all done together, not as citizens divided against each other, but as a common people working towards a common future," Vance said.

Obama has largely avoided discussing Vance directly in public comments. He previously took a subtle swipe against Vance during the 2024 election after then-Vice President Kamala Harris chose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as a running mate.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

"When a presidential candidate chooses a running mate, it says a lot about who they are and what kind of president they'll be. Do they pick someone inexperienced and polarizing who will deepen our divisions?" Obama asked. "Or do they pick someone with the judgment to make tough decisions, and the character to believe that every voice counts and everyone deserves an equal chance?"

FIFA launches investigation into brawl after Spain defeated Argentina in World Cup Final

Leandro Paredes received a red card for appearing to grab Eric García by the throat as multiple altercations erupted

FIFA is launching an investigation into the altercations that broke out on the pitch after Spain defeated Argentina in the 2026 World Cup Final at New York/New Jersey Stadium on Sunday.

Spain beat Argentina, the 2022 World Cup champions, 1-0 in extra time after Ferran Torres finally got the ball past Emiliano Martínez’s goal line.

After the final whistle blew, several brawls broke out between players, and even coaches appeared to get involved.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Among them was Argentina’s Leandro Paredes appearing to grab Spain’s Eric García by the throat before others started shoving and tripping each other to the turf.

"Following an assessment of the relevant match reports for the FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, and in line with article 36 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC), the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has appointed a Disciplinary and Ethics Prosecutor to investigate potential breaches of the FDC with regard to the post-match incidents," a statement from the governing organization read.

SPAIN BEATS ARGENTINA TO WIN 2026 FIFA WORLD CUP BEHIND FERRAN TORRES' EXTRA-TIME GOAL

Paredes ended up getting a red card after the whistle blew and was sent off the pitch. He was also shown a yellow card for a poor tackle shortly after he substituted in for his country in the second half.

Also, Argentina’s head coach Lionel Scaloni was seen being held back by a Spanish player while he was shouting toward someone. Nicola Otamendi also exchanged words with several Spain players, including their captain Rodrí before that skirmish was broken up.

There also seemed to be a moment where Argentina assistant coach Roberto Ayala approached Spain’s Dani Olmo and punched him on the chin before they were pulled away from one another.

"We are gracious in victory, and we must be so in defeat," Scaloni said, via ESPN. "We accept the loss; we gave everything. We were stretched thin coming into this, but giving it your all, like they did today, sets a great example for our people and our country.

"You lose, and you have to pick yourself up again."

Many were quick to rip into Argentina for the brawls that ensued after losing, including BBC’s Joe Hart.

"There was one man on the pitch who did have class and that was Lionel Messi, who shook hands with every one of those Spanish players," he said, via Goal.com. Well, Paredes’ chokehold on the Spanish player would result in an automatically applied red card. Nahuel Molina and Ayala are both expected to be investigated as well.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Follow Fox News Digital’s sports coverage on X and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

5 dead in attempt to save a struggling swimmer in Ohio river

Two women were pronounced dead at a hospital and three men's bodies were recovered Monday in Delaware County

An attempt to save a struggling swimmer in an Ohio river left five people dead over the weekend, authorities said Monday .

A group gathered Sunday evening at the Scioto River in Powell, a Columbus suburb, when one of them went into the water to go swimming.

"And that’s when the tragedy started to occur," Delaware County Sheriff Jeffrey Balzer said at a news conference Monday. Others then jumped into the river in an attempt to help the swimmer.

"I understand that one person got in the river, was struggling in the water. Two people went in to try to save them," Balzer said. Those people started struggling in the river, Now we have two additional people go in the water."

OFF-DUTY ICE OFFICER RELIES ON 'SIXTH SENSE' TO SAVE DROWNING CHILD BEFORE DELIVERING MESSAGE TO CRITICS

At around 9 p.m., a "distraught" child with the group ran onto a nearby road and was spotted by a motorist who called 911. The child said his family was in the river, Balzer said.

First responders arrived and found two women, who were pronounced dead at a hospital, Balzer said.

The bodies of three men were found in the river on Monday, Tracy Whited, a spokesperson for the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department, told The Associated Press. The identities of the deceased have not been released.

No boat was at the scene and it was unclear if alcohol played a factor in the tragedy, the sheriff said.

CARNIVAL CRUISE PASSENGER, 67, FOUND DEAD WHILE SNORKELING OFF THE COAST OF AUSTRALIA DURING EXCURSION

Two children under the age of 10 that were part of the group have been placed in the care of family services, said Balzer.

The sheriff urged the public to have safety devices like life vests on hand when gathering near bodies of water.

The 230-mile Scioto River is a popular area for locals and boasts fish populations of bass, saugeye, catfish, and carp, according to publiclands.com.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

The deaths happened days after five family members were killed in Utah after a flash flood swept through the region.

Brain tumor found during preventive scan puts full-body MRIs back in the spotlight

The scans could potentially catch conditions early, but some warn of risks and uncertainty

After a former "Bachelor" contestant said a preventive scan uncovered a brain tumor before symptoms appeared, doctors are once again weighing the promise — and pitfalls — of full-body MRI screenings.

The renewed attention comes as celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton and now former "Bachelor" contestant Josh Seiter have publicly discussed preventive body scans, fueling consumer interest in the technology despite ongoing debate among medical experts about its benefits for healthy people.

Full-body scans use different technologies, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) or positron emission tomography (PET), according to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

'BACHELORETTE' STAR REVEALS BRAIN TUMOR DIAGNOSIS AFTER ROUTINE HEALTH SCAN

The goal is to detect early signs of diseases such as cancer, heart disease and other abnormalities.

Dr. Daniel Durand, chief medical officer at Prenuvo, one of the biggest U.S. providers of full-body scans, compared the scan to a "virtual physical" in which a radiologist examines the inside of the body in a way that a traditional annual physical cannot.

Prenuvo's scan uses MRI technology to collect a "vast amount of health data," the Maryland-based doctor previously told Fox News Digital.

"Two licensed providers analyze this data, explain its relevance directly to you and offer you guidance on the next steps necessary to optimize your health," he said.

5 CANCER TYPES WHERE SCREENINGS SAVE THE MOST LIVES

Insurance does not typically cover whole-body scans.

"Coverage usually varies widely by insurance plan, jurisdiction, and the specific clinical guidelines for each genetic condition," Dr. Mikhail Varshavski, more commonly known as "Dr. Mike," a podcaster and primary care physician in New Jersey, previously told Fox News Digital.

"My general understanding is that for screening purposes, the test is usually not covered, given the lack of documented clinical benefit versus harms."

Some coverage may be offered, however, for those with high-risk genetic syndromes or other specific medical conditions, the doctor noted.

"Our hope is that over time, insurers will see the many benefits of our proactive approach to healthcare and will broaden coverage," Prenuvo’s Durand said.

COMMON CANCER TYPE COULD BE DETECTED WITH NEW BLOOD TEST

"We are actively engaged in several research studies that could provide a foundation for insurance reimbursement."

Depending on the provider and options selected, prices for full-body scans can be as high as $2,500.

The two biggest providers of full-body scans are Prenuvo (headquartered in California) and Ezra (based in New York City).

Potential benefits

Dr. Brett Osborn, a Florida neurologist and longevity expert, has also spoken with Fox News Digital about the benefits of full-body MRI scans.

"Full-body scanning, mainly through MRI, presents a significant advancement in modern medicine's diagnostic capabilities," he said.

"MRI technology allows for a comprehensive, non-invasive examination of the body to detect a wide range of conditions, including cancer and vascular malformations like aneurysms, without the need for potentially harmful radiation, as is the case with CT scans," he also said.

Durand claimed that a Prenuvo scan can detect many diseases based on changes to the inside of the body that can be detected by MRI.

"Usually these changes happen before symptoms occur or before there are signs on a physical exam," he told Fox News Digital.

"So, in many cases, the earliest signs of diseases — like cancers, infections or aneurysms — will be seen," he went on. "By seeing them earlier, you can be treated earlier, hopefully before the disease has done little to no permanent damage."

Doctors share concerns

Dr. Mike told Fox News Digital that he has not recommended that any of his patients get an MRI screening scan.

"The high upfront cost and lack of clear medical indication for broad screening (if you’re low-risk and asymptomatic) lead me to agree with the major medical organizations that routine whole-body MRI screening for the general population is not recommended," he said.

CANCER SCREENINGS: HERE ARE 5 TYPES AND CRITICAL INFORMATION TO KNOW ABOUT EACH

Much of the popularity of these scans has been driven by celebrities, who sometimes receive them for free, Dr. Mike said — which he finds concerning.

"My understanding is that even receiving a free scan is a business relationship that the FTC requires disclosing," he said. "My understanding is that the companies themselves cannot claim their tests save lives, so they work with celebs who can make personal claims that are not subject to the same investigational scrutiny."

"This also sends a conflicting message to the consumer and creates confusion."

Dr. Marc Siegel, clinical professor of medicine at NYU Langone Health and Fox News' senior medical analyst, also does not recommend these scans to patients.

"With the current level of technology, I am against full-body scans in favor of more directed workups initiated by expert physicians who know what they are looking for," he has told Fox News Digital.

"If you do a full-body scan, you will be inclined to pursue every positive finding, whether they are really significant or not."

Siegel also noted the high expense and the fact that full-body scans are "frequently oversensitive."

TEST YOURSELF WITH OUR LATEST LIFESTYLE QUIZ

"They may take the place of more directed, accurate studies and screening tests that are more suited to the symptoms, history and genetic tests in specific patients," Siegel cautioned.

The doctor also noted the current shift toward more personalized healthcare approaches, "augmented by not just genetics, but also artificial intelligence."

"This will lead to more directed workups, not to more full-body scans."

The most significant risks that come with these full-body scans, according to Dr. Mike, are the issues that arise with false positives, overdiagnosis and overtreatment.

There are also mental risks, including anxiety during the procedure (claustrophobia), stress from incidental findings and an increase in health-related worries, the doctor noted.

"Some proponents say it can ease health-related anxiety; however, I am pretty skeptical of that claim," he said. "Based on my clinical experience, even getting a clear scan would secure peace of mind only temporarily."

Research published in 2020 found that imaging abnormalities are expected in about 95% of screened subjects, according to the doctor.

"This means the majority of those scanned will have some sort of finding presented to them," he said. "I can’t imagine how helpful that would be to someone already prone to health worries."

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTER

During a 2025 podcast interview with Dr. Mike, Andrew Lacy, CEO of Prenuvo, said that long-term data on these screening scans is not yet available.

"So, currently, we don't know if we are saving more people by catching disease early or harming more people with overdiagnosis, false positives and overtreatment," Dr. Mike said.

"Barring emergencies, if I don't have clear data about the harms and benefits of an intervention, especially one that is meant to be used on healthy people, I cannot widely recommend it."

Prenuvo did cite a recent study of over 1,000 patients who were followed over a one-year period.

"In this sample, we found pathologically-proven cancer in 2.2% of Prenuvo patients," Durand told Fox News Digital. "Importantly, most of these cancers were early stage, and the majority were cancer types for which there is no widely accepted screening exam."

Guidelines of health agencies

The most recent guidance from the FDA echoes the doctors’ concerns.

"At this time, the FDA knows of no scientific evidence demonstrating that whole-body scanning of individuals without symptoms provides more benefit than harm to people being screened," the agency stated on its website.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE HEALTH STORIES

The FDA also warned about the "relatively high radiation exposure" from CT scans. While this exposure risk is "greatly outweighed" by the benefits of diagnostic and therapeutic scans, the agency said that for whole-body screening of asymptomatic people, "the benefits are questionable."

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

"Before having a CT screening procedure, carefully investigate and consider the potential risks and benefits and discuss them with your physician," the FDA advised.

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) also recommends against full-body scans for early tumor detection in asymptomatic patients.

Andre Wiley, 19, was already on pretrial probation for burglary, conspiracy and grand theft when he allegedly struck again

A California man accused of stealing jewelry was back behind bars less than 24 hours after walking out of jail, allegedly pulling off the exact same type of crime while already on pretrial probation, authorities said.

Andre Wiley, 19, was arrested last week after Sacramento County Sheriff's Office detectives said he teamed up with two other men in an alleged jewelry store theft just hours after being released from the Placer County Jail on his own recognizance for burglary, conspiracy and grand theft charges.

Investigators said Wiley and 18-year-olds Andrew Ivy and Kameryus Mayhand entered a local jewelry store together.

Authorities allege Ivy and Mayhand distracted employees by browsing merchandise while Wiley sat at a consultation desk and stole two pieces of jewelry before the trio fled.

HOMEOWNERS IN LEAFY ENCLAVES HIT BY BURGLARS ZEROING IN ON HIGH-END HOMES FOR SMASH-AND-GRAB SCORES

Authorities also released surveillance video appearing to show the entire alleged theft unfold, from the trio casually entering the store and walking around inside to their sudden dash out the door moments later.

A short time later, the Rancho Cordova Police Department's Crime Suppression Unit located the suspects' vehicle, leading to their arrests and the recovery of the stolen items, authorities said.

CALIFORNIA MAN ADMITS TARGETING 3 SUBWAY RESTAURANTS FOR ROBBERIES IN LESS THAN A WEEK, FBI SAYS

Deputies then discovered Wiley had been released from the Placer County Jail less than 24 hours earlier and was already on pretrial probation for burglary, conspiracy and grand theft charges — the same offenses he is now accused of committing again, the sheriff's office said.

Wiley, Ivy and Mayhand were all booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy and grand theft.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office released the suspects' booking photos because detectives believe they may be connected to additional thefts.

OREGON BURGLARY SUSPECT NABBED AFTER CRASHING SUV DURING POLICE CHASE: VIDEO

Anyone who recognizes the suspects or believes they may have been victimized is asked to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office at 916-874-5115.

Don Lemon claims Trump's MAGA movement is 'closest thing' to modern Nazi Party without Holocaust

Former CNN anchor says MAGA supporters are 'voting for White supremacy' and revealed he's exploring a presidential campaign

Former CNN anchor Don Lemon compared President Donald Trump's MAGA movement to the Nazi Party and revealed he was considering a potential 2028 presidential campaign during a Wednesday interview.

"MAGA is the closest thing to the modern version of the Nazi Party," Lemon said on the "Can't Be Censored" podcast. "This is America’s version. It’s the closest thing, without the Holocaust and all that stuff."

Lemon made the comparison after the hosts, Travis Dhanraj and Karman Wong, asked him to define MAGA and consider what could happen to the Republican Party after Trump leaves the political stage.

DON LEMON REVEALS HE'S 'TOTALLY SERIOUS' ABOUT CONSIDERING A PRESIDENTIAL RUN

"No matter how many facts and how much information you give them about this presidency, about the policies, they don’t change their minds because they’re really not voting for the price of eggs," Lemon said. "They’re voting for White supremacy. They’re voting for power."

The former cable news host broadened his attack beyond the MAGA movement, accusing Trump of fascism and arguing that the country had moved beyond ordinary political dysfunction.

"We’ve careened into fascism," Lemon said. "The president is a fascist."

TOP DEMOCRAT GOVERNORS ARE HOPING TO RIDE THEIR RECORDS TO THE WHITE HOUSE. CAN THEY?

The White House sharply criticized Lemon’s remarks in a statement to Fox News Digital.

"Don Lemon is a low ratings loser that no one takes seriously," White House spokesman Davis Ingle said. "He should immediately seek psychiatric help to treat his severe and debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome."

Lemon said people had repeatedly asked whether he would run for president and that he was unimpressed by many of the figures he viewed as possible presidential contenders.

"I don’t know, I might," Lemon said. "I’m serious. I don’t know. I might because people keep asking me to do it."

"I’ve stuck my toe into it, if you want to put it that way, or I’ve dabbled. I’ve talked to people about it, people who have been in politics before."

He said he would prefer a campaign financed through small contributions rather than large donors, although he acknowledged that avoiding traditional fundraising might not be realistic.

"I would like it to be a voter-driven, citizen-driven campaign for as much as it can be," Lemon said. "Maybe at some point I might have to take a donation."

"I would rather the people of the United States to say, ‘That’s the guy that we want. I’m gonna give him five dollars or $10 or something that doesn’t break the bank because I know that the economy is tough,’"

MICHELLE OBAMA ACCUSES MEDIA OF WEAPONIZING FASHION TO 'DIMINISH' HER AS A CAMPAIGN THREAT

Lemon also revisited his April 2023 departure from CNN, alleging that network leaders wanted to remove him because he was "the gay Black guy." CNN said at the time that the network and Lemon had "parted ways" and disputed his account of how he was notified.

"They wanted to get rid of me as the gay Black guy," Lemon said. "One hundred percent, that’s what it was."

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

A CNN spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the decision had nothing to do with his identity.

"Don was an important member of the CNN family for nearly 20 years," the spokesperson said.

"The decision regarding Don’s departure was based on factors unrelated to his race or sexual orientation," the statement continued. "Although we disagree with his recollection of events, we are grateful for his contributions and wish him nothing but success in the future."

Hasan Piker vows never to criticize Mao Zedong in resurfaced video, hails him as ‘great leader’

The resurfaced Twitch clip from a November 2025 China trip drew criticism from Shannon Watts, Spencer Pratt and Destiny

A resurfaced video showing far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker praising Mao Zedong circulated online Sunday night after he addressed the College Democrats of America’s national convention Saturday in Washington, prompting criticism from Democratic activists, political commentators and other public figures.

In the resurfaced livestream, Piker discussed being stopped by a police officer while visiting Tiananmen Square during a November 2025 trip to China.

"I got stopped by a cop who thought I was making fun of Mao Zedong, which I never would and never will," Piker said. "Mao Zedong is one of the great leaders of this world, OK? A man who changed the entire universe, the entire planet."

Piker later responded after viewers challenged his praise for the former Chinese Communist Party chairman, according to a transcript published by Vox.

HASAN PIKER NAMES PRO-CCP TYCOON SINGHAM AS FINANCIER OF 'POLITICAL MOVEMENTS' DESPITE NONPROFIT VENEER

"There was a lot of f-----g excesses, let’s be real," Piker said. "But the People’s Republic of China would not exist without Mao Zedong."

Mao founded the People's Republic of China in 1949 and led the country until his death in 1976. Estimates of deaths directly connected to the famine during Mao's Great Leap Forward range from 23 million to 55 million, with 30 million most frequently cited, according to the Association of Asian Studies.

The video resurfaced after Piker appeared at the College Democrats' July convention. The organization describes itself as the official collegiate arm of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

Piker opened his convention speech by characterizing himself as an outsider seeking an "insurgency" within the Democratic Party.

JOHNSON WARNS AMERICA IS IN 'BATTLE' AGAINST MARXISM, CALLS FOR RENEWED FOCUS ON NATION'S FOUNDING PRINCIPLES

"It’s a great honor to be here in the heart of the American Empire, in the belly of the beast," Piker said. "I’m speaking to the future activists of the Democratic Party, but as an outsider currently pushing for an insurgency."

He urged the attendees to reject Democrats who compromise with Republicans and support funding for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Israel.

"No more to the Democrats who will collaborate and cooperate with the fascists, who will fund ICE, who will fund Israel, who will help poison the planet," Piker said. "We don’t need those Democrats anymore."

Moms Demand for Action founder Shannon Watts criticized Piker's appearance and clothing in an X post.

"Dressed like Mao and talking about how much he hates the majority of Democrats as an invited guest of @CollegeDems," Watts said. "Our party having a normal one."

SOME DEMOCRATS PRIVATELY DISGUSTED BY HASAN PIKER BUT ARE AFRAID TO PUBLICLY CRITICIZE HIM, HOUSE DEM CLAIMS

"Mao’s rule caused 40M deaths through policies like the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution. Making it one of the deadliest regimes in modern history."

Watts then urged voters to hold candidates who campaign with Piker accountable, specifically naming Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.

"He is a dangerous, hateful extremist and anyone campaigning with him — including El Sayed — should be held accountable by voters," Watts said.

Fox News reached out to the DNC and El-Sayed for comment, but did not immediately hear back.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Former Los Angeles mayoral candidate and reality television personality Spencer Pratt compared Piker's praise for Mao to praise for Adolf Hitler.

Warren’s latest ‘kiss of death’ endorsement sparks mockery over disastrous political picks

Critics cite Warren's failed endorsement record including Graham Platner, who withdrew after rape allegations.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is drawing conservative criticism over several recent endorsements after backing progressive Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed ahead of the state’s August Democratic primary.

"After Graham Platner's implosion, Warren's endorsement should be viewed as a kiss of death by any Democrat who actually wants to win. Pocahontas clearly has not learned her lesson with toxic socialist candidates and by shamelessly endorsing El-Sayed continues to drag her party straight into electoral oblivion," RNC National Press Secretary Natalie Baldassarre told Fox News Digital.

Warren, one of the Senate's most progressive Democrats, has long championed policies favored by the party’s left flank as socialist and democratic socialist ideas gain traction among some Democratic voters.

WARREN DEFIES SCHUMER AS DEM CIVIL WAR EXPLODES OVER MUST-WIN SENATE RACE

The Massachusetts Democrat had previously endorsed Platner, calling him her "kind of man" from the campaign trail. He later withdrew from the race after a rape allegation, which he denied, and also faced criticism over a chest tattoo resembling a Nazi-era symbol that he apologized for and covered.

"Abdul is the only candidate in this race not taking corporate money, and he's fighting to get money out of politics altogether. Abdul's studied to be a doctor, and he is fighting for every single American to have affordable, high-quality healthcare," said Warren on X.

Critics swiftly seized on Warren’s endorsement record while attacking El-Sayed over his views on Israel and support for socialist policies.

Among Warren’s endorsements this cycle were Katie Porter in California’s gubernatorial race, Mallory McMorrow in Michigan’s Senate race and Zach Wahls in Iowa’s Senate race. Porter and Wahls lost their respective primaries, while McMorrow suspended her campaign before Michigan voters cast primary ballots.

MICHIGAN SENATE CANDIDATE ABDUL EL-SAYED DODGES QUESTION ON WHETHER HE STILL SUPPORTS DEFUNDING THE POLICE

"From the same person who said Nazi Tattoo-wearing Graham Platner was ‘My kind of man’ before dropping out in disgrace," wrote the Republican Jewish Coalition. "Elizabeth Warren is a complete and total joke."

"The hate America Red/Green alliance, embodied," wrote Fox News Contributor Paul Mauro.

"The kiss of death.
Lee Gilley begs for Italian protection as alleged squatter targets home where pregnant wife was killed

Harris County opened a criminal probe after a warranty deed purported to transfer the property to a Missouri-based LLC

As Lee Gilley fights extradition from Italy to face a capital murder charge in the death of his pregnant wife, a disputed claim to the couple's vacant Houston home has triggered a separate criminal investigation.

The Houston Police Department confirmed to Fox News Digital that officers responded to Gilley's home in the 800 block of Allston Street around 6:30 p.m. June 17 after receiving a reported trespassing complaint. A man at the property told officers he had a right to be there and was willing to "go to court" to prove his claim, police said.

HPD contacted the Harris County District Attorney's Office, which referred the dispute to the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable's Office as a civil matter. No criminal charges resulted from the initial police response.

The unusual property dispute surfaced months after authorities say Gilley cut off his court-ordered ankle monitor and fled the United States ahead of his murder trial, leaving the Houston Heights home vacant.

TEXAS MAN ACCUSED IN PREGNANT WIFE'S MURDER FIGHTS TO REMAIN IN ITALY, CITING 'LIFESTYLE AND CULTURE'

Records reviewed by Fox News Digital show Lee and Christa Gilley purchased the Allston Street property in 2018. However, PEOPLE magazine reported that a separate warranty deed signed May 8 and filed May 21 purported to transfer the home to Save a Life Houses LLC. Matthew Jackson signed the document as an authorized representative of the Missouri-based company, according to the outlet.

What police initially treated as a civil dispute later drew criminal scrutiny. Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen announced July 6 that his office had opened a criminal investigation into the attempted takeover.

TEXAS MAN ACCUSED OF KILLING PREGNANT WIFE ALLEGEDLY CUTS OFF ANKLE MONITOR AND FLEES TO ITALY

Rosen said no one was inside when investigators entered the home and nothing immediately appeared to have been stolen. Deputies removed newly installed surveillance cameras, paperwork from the windows and at least two boxes of potential evidence, KPRC reported. A locksmith also changed the locks.

Rosen said investigators were examining whether the property claim was connected to similar claims involving other vacant homes. The Harris County Attorney's Office was also investigating the matter on the civil side, according to KPRC. Rosen did not publicly identify Jackson as a suspect, and no criminal charges have been announced in connection with the property.

FOLLOW THE FOX TRUE CRIME TEAM ON X

SIGN UP TO GET THE LATEST TRUE CRIME NEWS

While Texas authorities investigated the disputed property claim, Gilley, 39, remained jailed in Italy.

LIKE WHAT YOU'RE READING? The Harris County medical examiner's office ruled her death a homicide caused by neck compression. Gilley has pleaded not guilty, and his attorneys have challenged that conclusion.

Federal investigators allege Gilley removed his ankle monitor May 1 and fled Texas before his scheduled trial. "They want to punish me, and I am asking for protection for myself and my children."

Gilley's Italian attorney, Monica Grosso, told NBC News that Texas authorities had not provided a formal written guarantee that prosecutors would take the death penalty off the table. Grosso said the defense had instead received an embassy note offering assurances.

LISTEN TO THE NEW 'CRIME & JUSTICE WITH DONNA ROTUNNO' PODCAST

Grosso also told NBC News that the defense believes Christa suffered from a blood disorder and that blood found in the couple's bedroom was inconsistent with the prosecution's account of her death.

GET BREAKING NEWS BY EMAIL

On July 20, the Turin court temporarily blocked the extradition request and sought additional assurances from the U.S. government regarding the death penalty and a possible sentence of life without parole, according to Italian court records obtained by KPRC.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

The court set an Aug. 31 deadline for a response and scheduled another hearing for early September, KPRC reported.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Gilley's attorney and the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable's Office for comment.

An illegal immigrant serving a lengthy prison sentence for the murder of a Michigan woman is suing President Donald Trump, alleging he faced humiliation when his case was used as a political talking point, and is demanding $75 million, a public apology, and U.S. citizenship.

Brandon Ortiz-Vite, 27, who was previously deported from the United States, is serving a sentence of 39 to 102 years in prison for killing Ruby Garcia in March 2024.

Garcia's body had several gunshot wounds and was found dumped along a road in Grand Rapids. The pair were in a romantic relationship and were engaged in an argument at the time of the slaying.

EXCLUSIVE: DHS SEEKS CUSTODY OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT CHARGED WITH MURDER AFTER TRUMP DEPORTATION, BIDEN RELEASE

In a handwritten complaint filed in federal court, Ortiz-Vite named Trump and White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Steven Cheung as defendants.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the White House.

Ortiz-Vite's case garnered national attention and was highlighted when Trump, who made combating illegal immigration a large part of his campaign, visited Grand Rapids in 2024. During his remarks, Trump labeled Ortiz-Vite as "America's problem."

FAMILY SHATTERED AFTER 3-TIME DEPORTED ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT ALLEGEDLY BLEW THROUGH STOP SIGN, ROILING HOUSE RACE

He also featured Ortiz-Vite’s mugshot in commercials as an example of the "murderers, rapists , and drug traffickers" who resided illegally in the United States, The Midwesterner reported.

He was mocked by prison staff and other inmates, he said.

"I was put into a category. Who I was as a person no longer mattered! What only mattered was my race," Ortiz-Vite wrote. "My case and immigration status! Once again, it belittled me, shattered my dignity and what I was as a person."

"The shame it brought to my family name is a reality I have to live with now," he added. "I took full responsibility for my actions but for them to use my case for political gain on TV was unjust. Humiliating. When I thought it couldn't get worse, it did. I was center stage in front of a nation, public scrutiny at its finest!"

Ortiz-Vite, who acted as his own attorney, said his case came under intense media coverage, resulting in him living in a "nightmare".

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION PLANS NEW ICE HOLDING FACILITY NEAR LOUISIANA DEPORTATION FLIGHT HUB

"It all became clear to me when I first met with my court-appointed attorneys. They explained how my case had now gotten blown out of proportion and was now a high-profile case!" he wrote. "The shock in their eyes and the tears from mine were a reaction to my realization that I was living everyone's worst nightmare! To be publicly infamous—a target! To the United States of America, from here everything went downhill. I was now labeled a cold-blooded murderer in the eyes of the people of this nation."

"The anxiety and despair I felt compares to no other," he added.

Matthew Borgula, a criminal defense attorney and former federal prosecutor, said the lawsuit is unlikely to succeed, citing a range of factors, including presidential immunity.

"Federal law requires courts to screen prisoner suits before anyone is served. This complaint will likely not survive that screening," Borgula told Fox News Digital. "Also, Presidential immunity covers official acts, and campaign statements can fall outside it — but this suit fails for more basic reasons."

Borgula noted that Trump's statements on the Ortiz-Vite's case were "substantially true, and being publicly embarrassed by a politician isn't a constitutional violation. This case should end before it begins."

Tudor Dixon, a former Michigan GOP gubernatorial candidate, called the lawsuit an example of arrogance and entitlement.

"As long as we have Democrats jetting to other countries to coddle criminal illegal aliens over margaritas, this level of arrogance and entitlement from convicted murderers will continue," Dixon told Fox News Digital. "It’s time lawmakers stand with the Ruby Garcias of the world instead of her killer."

After entering the U.S. illegally, Ortiz-Vite remained under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program until his status expired on May 10, 2019, MLive.com reported.

He was deported following a 2020 arrest for driving while intoxicated. It was unclear when he re-entered the U.S. illegally.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

The complaint didn't cite any legal violations, instead blaming Trump for labeling him as an example of the Biden administration's border policies.

Ortiz-Vite eventually said he "stood tall" and took responsibility for his actions.

"Because I was remorseful for my actions on the 26th, I turned myself in and confessed to the murder of my partner at the time," he wrote. "Knowing the consequences it would bring, I stood tall and was respectful when asked about the actions that took place on the night of March 24th, 2024."

He is seeking $75 million, a public apology, and "naturalization to this beautiful country."

Despite its lack of merit, Borgula, the lawyer, noted that the lawsuit appears to be a window into what it's like to become a talking point in a national campaign.

"While the plaintiff may feel aggrieved, I don't see that a federal court can offer a remedy," he said. "He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Once you've done that, absent overturning the conviction, I don't see a legal avenue for collecting damages on a theory that your conviction was unfair."

Jiu-jitsu instructor and pastor accused of horrific crimes against children in exclusive California enclave

Emmanuel Marchica, 51, allegedly abused children since at least 2012 while serving as a pastor and jiu-jitsu instructor.

A California man who investigators say served as a pastor and worked as a Jiu-jitsu instructor is accused of sexually abusing children for years, with detectives warning there may be many more victims who have yet to come forward.

Emmanuel Marchica, 51, of Hollister, was arrested July 10 after Monterey County Sheriff's Office detectives launched an investigation into allegations of ongoing child sexual abuse that quickly expanded beyond a single victim.

Authorities said the investigation began on July 5 after deputies received a report alleging the ongoing sexual abuse of a child.

Detectives immediately interviewed witnesses and quickly identified several additional alleged victims before serving multiple search warrants that ultimately led to Marchica's arrest.

CALIFORNIA TEACHER SAMANTHA WATSON ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED SEXUAL CONDUCT WITH STUDENT AT CHARTER SCHOOL

Investigators said disclosures from victims date back to at least 2012, leading detectives to believe additional victims and witnesses may still be out there.

According to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, Marchica was serving as a pastor and regularly offering religious services at a community gathering center in the Hidden Valley community of San Benito County at the time of his arrest.

SAN FRANCISCO ARCHDIOCESE AGREES TO $395M SETTLEMENT WITH 530 CLERGY ABUSE SURVIVORS

Authorities did not identify the congregation or organization.

Detectives also said Marchica previously owned bakery businesses in Prunedale and Monterey, as well as gyms in Sand City, Seaside and Prunedale, where he offered physical therapy, massage therapy services and worked as a Jiu-jitsu instructor.

Investigators believe those community connections may have put him in contact with additional potential victims over the years.

FLORIDA MAN WHO ALLEGEDLY LURED WOMEN WITH DATING APP COULD HAVE MORE VICTIMS: AUTHORITIES

Marchica was booked into the Monterey County Jail on multiple felony charges, including lewd or lascivious acts with a child, sexual penetration of a child, oral copulation with a child and annoying or molesting a child.

His bail was set at $17.5 million.

The sheriff's office is urging anyone who may have been victimized by Marchica or anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact detectives.

"Detectives understand that victims of sexual abuse often delay reporting for many years," the Monterey County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. "Regardless of when the abuse may have occurred, investigators encourage victims to know that they will be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect throughout the investigative process."

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Janelli Arroyo at (831) 755-7261 or Detective Sgt.
Brad Paisley says Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce threw 'one of the least pretentious weddings' ever

Brad Paisley said the invite to the 1,000-guest Madison Square Garden celebration felt personal

Despite hosting roughly 1,000 guests, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce kept their wedding refreshingly down-to-earth, according to one country music star.

Brad Paisley praised the couple's July 3 nuptials as refreshingly humble, calling the event of the decade "one of the least pretentious weddings" he'd ever attended.

"I took this personally when I got the invite, because in the invite, it said, ‘If you’re getting this, you mean a lot to us,’" Paisley told The Associated Press. "And it was really fun to watch the cat-and-mouse game of like, ‘We can tell you roughly where it’s gonna be. We’re not gonna say what building... And here’s the date, and if you’re in, we’ll tell you more.’ And I was like, I went to my wife, I said, ‘Want to go?’ She’s like, ‘Absolutely. We’ve gotta be there.’ So we did it. It was RSVP yes."

TAYLOR SWIFT AND TRAVIS KELCE'S WEDDING LEAKS SNOWBALL AS GUESTS REVEAL INSIDE DETAILS

"Ironically, one of the least pretentious weddings I’ve ever seen, or ever will see," he added. "And so, yeah, it meant a lot to be... It was kind of a big thank you from her to invite us."

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model Camille Kostek echoed Paisley's sentiment, recalling a phone-free reception where guests danced for hours alongside fellow celebrities.

"I think we didn't have phones, and there was no sense of time in there," Kostek explained to Fox News Digital while attending Sports Illustrated Beyond the Pitch on July 18 alongside top athletes, celebrities and tastemakers during the World Cup. "I think I was probably on the dance floor for five straight hours. Shoes came off. It was so much fun."

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT NEWSLETTER

Kostek recalled sharing the dance floor with country star Chris Stapleton and spotting Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts during what she described as a memorable night.

"I didn't dance next to Taylor, she was up on stage, and I was like dancing from afar with her," Kostek added.

Swift and Kelce married on July 3 in front of 1,000 guests at Madison Square Garden, a representative for the pop star told Fox News Digital. The two opted not to have a traditional wedding party, instead choosing to have Swift's brother as her "Man of Honor" and Kelce's brother as his "Best Man."

LIKE WHAT YOU'RE READING? Guests remained inside their vehicles as they drove into an enclosed arrival tent, where they exited their cars before being privately escorted into the venue.

Swift's representative revealed to Fox News Digital that the couple's wedding ceremony looks were designed by Jonathan Anderson of Christian Dior Haute Couture. The happy couple both wore white, and the "Life of a Showgirl" singer accessorized with Cartier.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Kentucky football coach channels Curt Cignetti, delivers SEC Media Days quote everyone will remember

The first-time head coach delivered a confident answer about why he can find success in Lexington that echoed Indiana's rise.

TAMPA, FL - Will Stein stood at the SEC Media Days podium for the first time as the Kentucky head football coach and essentially pulled a move that would make Curt Cignetti proud.

There have been plenty of times over the past few years when new head coaches would point to tradition, facilities, a fan base or recruiting practices as to why they would have success at their new destination.

A number of those statements usually fall on deaf-ears, knowing the coaches were just going by the playbook that comes when taking over at a new school, or becoming a head coach for the first time.

Greg Sankey addresses SEC breakaway talk as Michigan tries to steal spotlight with AD Warde Manuel decision

At Kentucky, the football program had plateaued under Mark Stoops. There needed to be a sense of hunger once again in Lexington, and former Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein was the man for the job.

Given his long history with Kentucky, the fit works with Stein. He bleeds blue, and there is enough excitement in Lexington within the athletic department and fan base for him to have the support needed to find success, whatever that may be over the next few years.

CURT CIGNETTI REVEALS HOW WORKING FOR NICK SABAN CHANGED EVERYTHING: 'EVERY DAY WAS 4TH-AND-1'

But, we're seen Kentucky have success before, though it's been a few years since they've garnered headlines.

A Curt Cignetti moment for the Kentucky head coach

On Monday in Tampa, Will Stein made sure to add fire to that excitement within the Wildcats base, with one simple answer that reminded us of Curt Cignetti telling reporters to 'Google Him' during his introductory news conference at Indiana.

When asked the Kentucky coach was asked why he believes that he can find success in Lexington on the football field, Stein took about five or six seconds to compose himself before delivering a quote that has obviously made its rounds across college football.

INDIANA COACH CURT CIGNETTI BECOMES UNSTOPPABLE THANKS TO LATEST DEVELOPMENT ON RECRUITING TRAIL

"This is gonna sound like really...I think because of me, to be honest," Stein said to the room. "I think because of me. I know what it takes. I have seen it at the highest levels. I know what it takes to recruit at this level

"You just gotta believe man. You got to put the football down and just play. There's not really anything else to be said. Is it gonna happen overnight? I don't know, I really don't. If I had a crystal ball, everybody in this room would be really, really, rich right now. The best determination of if it's working is putting the ball down and playing football."

Exactly what Kentucky, and college football, fans enjoy hearing

While Stein would go on to mention that there will be bumps in the road along the way, you can't help but enjoy his refreshing take as a first-time head coach.

There was zero fluff to his answer, just honesty. He wants to win now. Not only for himself, but for the Kentucky program that he holds dear to his heart.

"I am prepared for tough moments and hard times," Stein would add. I succumbed to that in our process. I already do self-talk myself about how I can stay neutral when stuff is bad, I can stay as neutral as possible and be very diplomatic in my approach.

"So, that's why. Growing up a fan (of Kentucky) is one thing. But, I know the players that we can get here. I know we can recruit North, South and East. People come to Lexington and love it. The longer I live there, the longer I'm like 'Wow, this place is incredible. It's got everything you want...It takes some TLC, and you gotta attack."

And, it's clear that Will Stein is not going to just patiently wait for his turn to change the narrative in Lexington.

"You can't sit back and wait. That's one thing i refuse to do at Kentucky is wait."

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Alright, he certainly won the news conference at SEC Media Days. Now, let's see how long it takes to get Kentucky into the CFP conversation.

Who's to say he's wrong? We're all obviously thinking differently of Indiana these days.

Brands like Hoka, New Balance and Orthofeet all have support shoe options

Plantar fasciitis is a pain to deal with — quite literally. According to Dr. Timothy Oldani, DPM, FACFAS (Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons), plantar fasciitis occurs when "the thick ligamentous band of tissue that supports the arch of the foot becomes irritated or overstressed, often resulting in persistent heel pain." To help you deal with the pain, we've lined up expert-recommended options at multiple price points — from brands like Hoka, New Balance and Brooks — so you can find a shoe that works for your needs.

Hoka Bondi 9: $150 (12% off)

Original price: $170

Ideal for daily use, the Hoka Bondi 9 sneakers provide extra cushioning for long periods on your feet. "The Hoka Bondi are great shoes for everyday wear and longer periods of standing, as they do offer increased cushioning compared to the running models, with the tradeoff of less heel drop," says Dr. Andrew Brown, a podiatrist with Foot and Ankle Specialists of West Michigan. The Bondi 9 comes in both men's and women's sizes.

READ MORE: Expert-recommended insoles for runners, nurses and people with foot pain

New Balance 990v6: $199.99

New Balance makes its 990v6 shoes right here in the U.S., with pigskin leather and synthetic materials that stand up to daily use.
ESPN parting ways with NFL analyst Ryan Clark ahead of network's first Super Bowl broadcast

Clark, earning roughly $2M per year, re-signed with ESPN in 2024 after a contentious contract negotiation

ESPN is parting ways with NFL analyst Ryan Clark, multiple sources told OutKick.

Clark is expected to be part of a round of layoffs the network could announce as soon as Tuesday.

OUTKICK IS NOW ON THE FOX APP: CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD

The NFL analyst will be among the highest-paid on-air personalities ESPN cuts, sources said, earning roughly $2 million per year. It is unclear whether Clark’s contract is expiring or whether he is being sidelined with time remaining on his deal.

Clark joined ESPN after retiring from the NFL in 2015 and re-signed with the network in 2021 for three years. In 2024, the two sides had contentious contract negotiations and Clark posted on social media at the time that he felt he "deserved more" and ESPN "disagreed." Ultimately, the two sides agreed to a deal.

ESPN RE-SIGNS FAR-LEFT, ANTI-SYDNEY SWEENEY RACE-BAITER WHILE REPORTEDLY CONSIDERING MASS LAYOFFS

The timing of the decision is particularly notable given Clark's role on ESPN's Monday Night Countdown pregame NFL coverage. The network is set to carry its first Super Bowl on February 14. Sources say ESPN is considering both internal and external candidates to replace Clark on its Super Bowl studio coverage.

Clark has become an increasingly polarizing figure inside ESPN in recent years. Sage Steele alleged in her lawsuit against the network that Clark refused to work with her on-air.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE OUTKICK SPORTS COVERAGE

Over the past year, he has also generated headlines for criticizing Robert Griffin III over his marriage to a White woman, an on-air exchange with Peter Schrager that reportedly continued off-air, and making disputed claims about how Louisiana police officers handled the fatal crash investigation involving former LSU player Kyren Lacy, who died by suicide.

If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide, please contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

OutKick reached out to ESPN for comment on Clark’s status with the network, but the network did not provide a statement before publication.

This is a breaking news story.

Nancy Mace reveals Senate decision as Lindsey Graham's sister redraws the race

Mace reveals she's 'not chasing another title' in her decision to forego a bid for the Senate

As the field for the race to replace the late Sen. Lindsey Graham takes shape, one prominent lawmaker is declining to dive into the arena hours after the contest was shaken up.

Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., opted against a bid after she strongly suggested that she’d throw her hat into the arena on Monday in a video statement. Last August, Mace launched a campaign for the Republican gubernatorial nomination in the race to succeed term-limited GOP Gov. Henry McMaster, but she finished a disappointing fifth out of five major candidates in last month’s Republican primary.

"I want to be straight with you, I'm not running for the U.S. Senate, not because I'm backing down from a fight, but because the one I'm already in matters right now," Mace said.

"I'm not chasing another title, I'm chasing justice, justice for me, justice for other women and justice for every little girl who was told to stay silent," she continued. "That's where my focus is today, and that's where it's going to stay."

FOX NEWS CHANNEL’S 'HANNITY' TO AIR EXCLUSIVE FIRST INTERVIEW WITH SEN DARLINE GRAHAM ON MONDAY

Her decision followed a move by Sen. Darline Graham, R-S.C., to take up her brother's mantle after she was appointed to finish off the remainder of her late brother's term. She made her decision to officially enter the upcoming special election after a push from President Donald Trump.

Graham, during an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, acknowledged the "tremendous amount of pressure" to take over the position and run.

"I feel like I can do it, I feel an inner peace about it," Graham said. "Will it be difficult? Yes."

When asked if she had made a decision on what she would do, she told Hannity she had.

"I'm in," Graham said.

Her addition to the growing roster of hopefuls to replace the late lawmaker will likely shake up the race less than one day before candidates can begin officially filing to run for the nomination.

Graham will come up against other challengers in her bid to claim the GOP nomination. Reps. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., Russell Fry, R-S.C., and businessman Mark Lynch, have all publicly committed to running.

And as the filing deadline fast approaches, both Mace and Norman turned their steel against their colleague, Fry, in what’s shaping up to be a messy, Palmetto State brawl.

Mace argued that should Fry win the nomination, and subsequently the general election, he would vacate his "Republican House seat until next May."

REPUBLICANS DEFY TRUMP, JUMP INTO SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE RACE DESPITE HIS HANDPICKED SUCCESSOR

"That narrows an already razor-thin majority and puts the Speaker's gavel in play," Mace said. "I will never hand Hakeem Jeffries that gift."

"If you're running for two offices at once, you've already told us who you are," she continued. "That's not about politics anymore — that's about power. You're either with the people you serve or you're not."

Fry announced Monday morning that he would enter the race, hours after Norman tossed in his hat, too. Mace has been making public overtures that she wants to jump in, but has so far not made anything official.

A source in Fry’s political orbit told Fox News Digital that the lawmaker has "accomplished more than all the potential candidates combined," having passed three bills in his first four years in Congress.

"This is really about giving voters a choice and not a coronation," they said.

Still, the conservative duo are going for blood against Fry, arguing that his bid for the seat is purely politically motivated and jeopardizes the House’s already slim majority heading into the midterm elections later this year.

Under South Carolina law, Fry can appear for multiple offices on the ballot. He was unopposed for his primary election for South Carolina’s 7th congressional district, and if he wins the nomination, he’ll be on the ballot twice for both.

TRUMP REVEALS WHO HE'S EYEING TO REPLACE LINDSEY GRAHAM

Ultimately, he’ll have to choose if he wins both, which would trigger another special election to fill his place.

The top two Republicans in the South Carolina Statehouse, South Carolina Senate President Thomas Alexander and South Carolina House Speaker Murrell Smith, said in a statement that the upcoming special election has "highlighted issues in South Carolina law," and noted that, "In the coming weeks, we intend to address these important issues so that we can provide the process available for our citizens."

That is not a problem for either Mace nor Norman, who both ran and failed to clinch the Republican gubernatorial nomination last month.

"SC Republican voters soundly rejected Nancy and Ralph as recently as last month because conservatives are tired of career politicians who care more about their own social media than getting actual results for families," South Carolina state Sen. JD Chaplin, and a spokesperson for Fry's campaign, told Fox News Digital.

Norman was less venomous in his take on the situation, and noted on X that he respected Fry and had enjoyed his time serving with him in the House. Still, his candidacy, he argued, "could leave his seat vacant until May 18th."

"This would leave his constituents unrepresented, jeopardize President Trump’s agenda, and put the House at risk of being led by a Speaker Hakeem Jeffries," Norman said. "We can’t let that happen!!"

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

Senate Majority Leader Sen. But I think she's a very accomplished person in her own right."

Asked if he would be endorsing her, the longtime lawmaker from South Dakota and top Republican in the Senate said, "I'm not endorsing anyone at the moment."

Fox News' Tyler Olson contributed to this report

One six-pack of beer could significantly alter how the Constitution regulates law enforcement

Kenneth Jouppi, now 82, could see his case reshape civil asset forfeiture law nationwide.

The Supreme Court agreed Monday to hear an Alaska man’s challenge to the state’s effort to confiscate his plane over a six-pack of beer, setting the stage for a case that could upend the ability of law enforcement to impose asset forfeiture.

Kenneth Jouppi, now 82, was operating a one-man air taxi service using his personally-owned 1969 Cessna plane in 2012 when Alaska state troopers executed a search warrant on his plane and found alcohol on board, including one six-pack that they said was plainly visible. At the time, Jouppi was on a runway in Fairbanks preparing to take a customer and her groceries to the remote village of Beaver near the center of the state.

Having beer on board wasn’t illegal on its own. However, since Beaver had banned the possession or sale of alcohol within its limits, Jouppi was convicted of alcohol importation, a misdemeanor. The Alaska Supreme Court held that, under the alcohol importation ban, the state was required to confiscate Jouppi’s Cessna.

GOP LAWMAKERS URGE SUPREME COURT TO STRENGTHEN FIRST AMENDMENT PROTECTIONS FOR STREET PREACHERS

Jouppi has since argued in court that the state’s seizure of his plane, valued at $95,000, runs afoul of the 8th Amendment’s ban on excessive fines. Now, the Supreme Court will weigh in on whether he’s right.

When ruling on Jouppi’s case, the court will have the opportunity to seriously rein in the ability of state and local governments to impose asset forfeiture — a longtime goal of civil libertarians.

"For centuries, English common law took into account the characteristics of the defendant and his or her specific violation in determining excessiveness," a trio of scholars working for the libertarian Cato Institute wrote of the case. "When courts lose touch with the original understanding of a fundamental right, they risk watering down the constitutional protections that must be afforded to everyday people. Such dilution of rights is especially dangerous today as governments generate billions of dollars in revenue through civil and criminal asset forfeiture."

SUPREME COURT UNANIMOUSLY LIMITS USE OF GUN LAW USED TO PROSECUTE HUNTER BIDEN

"This case gives the Supreme Court the opportunity to ensure that the people are afforded the protection that the Eighth Amendment promises them," they added.

Alaska, however, argues that confiscating the planes of those who facilitate illegal imports is the only way the state can meaningfully prevent the problems caused by alcoholism in its remote regions.

DOJ SUES DENVER OVER BAN ON ‘ASSAULT WEAPONS’ AS CITY'S DEM MAYOR SAYS IT 'WILL NOT BE BULLIED'

"Alcohol abuse is a serious problem in rural Alaska, and airplanes are sometimes the only realistic means to commit the crime of alcohol importation," a legal brief from the state reads. "Jouppi was convicted for his own knowing and intentional misconduct, and forfeiture removes the business asset that was the means used to commit the offense."

Some villages in Alaska are not connected to major road networks, making them primarily accessible by small planes, such as the one owned by Jouppi.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP

A trial court in 2018 ruled that the state taking Jouppi’s plane would be an excessive fine under the Constitution, though the Alaska Supreme Court ultimately decided otherwise in 2025, leaving the United States Supreme Court as the one-time pilot’s only remaining outlet for recourse.

Oral arguments in Jouppi’s case are likely to take place either later this year or early next year, with a decision expected to come down by next summer.
