Professional surfer Arran Strong, 28, presumed dead after going missing of the coast of Portugal

Professional surfer Arran Strong was presumed dead four days after going missing off the coast of Portugal in a tragic incident, the sports governing body in the UK confirmed.

The 28-year-old was a mile off the coast with his coach, Jose Maria Pyrrait, when the pair stopped to take a drink of water and take pictures. After taking a break for a few minutes, Pyrrait let Strong go ahead of him and then lost sight of him.

"In short: we stopped off Arrifana to drink water and take some pictures. We were there for a few minutes talking, when we started again," Pyrrait wrote in a post on Instagram. "I let him go ahead. Since my pace is faster. I always do that. When I would catch it and get a short lead I’d stop and wait for it."

"This time it was no different, but when I stopped to wait, I saw your board drifting about 100 meters away. I paddled as fast as I could to get there, diving repeatedly looking for it, but we were in a really deep area and visibility was very short."

Pyrrait said he immediately reached out to his partner on shore for help, and a local fisherman picked him up. They spent nearly 2 1/2 hours "scouring" the area for Strong using the boat’s sonar.

The Autoridade Marítima Nacional (AMN) told BBC Sport it was alerted to Strong having difficulties in the water at 11:33 BST Monday.

"The young man disappeared at sea while crossing from Monte Clerigo Beach to Carrapateira," the AMN told the outlet.

"His friend, who was with him, was rescued by a local fishing boat that was nearby."

The AMN confirmed that its search for Strong was halted Thursday. Pyrrait said Strong was like a "son" to him in his heartbreaking post.

"Arran was like a son to me; he had been training with me and spending weekends and holidays with me since he was ten years old—as I used to tell his mother, he was like the child of divorced parents. I loved him as if he were another son life had given me," Pyrrait wrote.

"Curiously, he always used to say he would die young. Right now, I feel profound pain; my only faint consolation is that he passed away at sea—a place he loved so dearly. He was young, with a pure and good heart, but he is gone. I feel empty and weary, yet life goes on."

Strong was the highest-ranked British surfer when he competed for Great Britain in each of the last two World Surfing Games. He competed in the World Surf League for a decade.

GB Surfing released a statement on the "tragic passing" of Strong Tuesday.

"Arran proudly represented Great Britain at the 2024 and 2025 ISA World Surf Games, finishing as our highest-placed male surfer on both occasions. Beyond his performances in the water, Arran was a fantastic teammate, respected competitor and a kind, generous presence whose passion for surfing left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him," the statement said.

"His passing is a devastating loss to our sport and the wider surfing community, and he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Arran’s family, friends, teammates and all those whose lives he touched."

Trump blasts Spain migrant surge as 'catastrophe,' warns US could face worse if Democrats regain power

President Donald Trump said Friday during a Cabinet meeting that scenes of migrants flooding into Spain's enclave of Ceuta from Morocco looked like a "catastrophe," but that the U.S. could see worse in the future if Democrats regain power.

"You know, I saw Spain yesterday, and I watched the catastrophe that took place. It looks like an invasion of a country by hundreds of thousands of people. And that same thing is going to happen to us if the Republicans don't get elected," Trump said Friday at Camp David. "Except worse, much bigger, much easier to get into. Despite the fact that we have built thousands of miles of wall, which I said we were going to do. But if we didn't have that, forget it. But we have the safest border in the world. If we're not in office, our country will be invaded at levels that made Spain look small time."

"And when I watched it, I said, boy, I said, ‘I'm going to say it because I knew you were going to be at Camp David.’ And I say, ‘That's going to be a talking point for the midterms, because when you look at what happened to Spain, they don't know what to do.’ And it's happening again today," the president continued. "They're coming in by the tens of thousands. It’s just invading the country. And what that is weak law, bad management, but very liberal law. They passed a couple of laws and people read, you know, people are smart. They read from other countries, and they swam that three-mile swim or however they got in."

"But nobody's seen anything like it. That will look good compared to what's going to happen to the United States," Trump also said. "The biggest thing, the worst thing that Biden did is allowing 25 million people into our country, because many of those people are criminals. They're murderers," Trump also said. "A lot of them are gone now. We got them out. But they allowed people to come into this country that you can't allow to come into a country."

Trump made similar comments to Fox News' Jacqui Heinrich earlier Friday morning.

"It’s terrible. Remember that picture. That’s going to be us in three years if the wrong side gets in," Trump said.

"If the Democrats get in, you will not live a very good life," he warned.

U.S. border security has remained a key plank of the president's campaign and policy focus throughout his political career.

An English translation of a Friday Spanish-language post on X from Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said, "The Government will guarantee the safety of the residents of Ceuta, intensifying the presence of the Security Forces and Corps on the city's streets." The post also included a video of him delivering remarks in Spanish.

Ceuta, which is located along the northwestern African coast and borders Morocco, is not attached to mainland Spain.

"Additionally, we will deploy a physical containment barrier in the sea to facilitate repatriation at the border, in compliance with the Supreme Court ruling. We will expedite the repatriation files of the migrants who arrived irregularly. And we will maintain cooperation with the Moroccan authorities to continue fighting against the mafias that traffic in human beings," the prime minister's post added.

Around 60,000 migrants had ventured from Morocco to Ceuta over the past 24 hours, Cueta President Juan Jesús Vivas said on Friday.

At least 41 migrants lost their lives.

SPAIN DEPLOYS MILITARY AFTER THOUSANDS OF MIGRANTS OVERWHELM BORDER ENCLAVE, AT LEAST 18 DEAD

Many young Moroccans who crossed into Ceuta told The Associated Press that they had hoped to find better work opportunities in Spain but were returning given the mayhem in Ceuta.

"There’s nothing at home. I’d have to work 12-hour shifts for a meager wage. That’s why I came here," said 21-year-old Abdulah Buji, who hails from the city of Tetouan. "But I haven’t found any opportunities here either, so I have to go back."

Moroccan police used water cannons and fired warning shots into the air to prevent migrants from crossing into Ceuta, according to rights groups in Morocco.

Authorities in Ceuta and Madrid have linked the border surge to a recent decision by the Spanish Supreme Court, which ruled that migrants arriving by sea could not be summarily deported, unlike those who cross by land or climb the border fence.

Sánchez said migrant smugglers misinterpreted the ruling.

The interpretation of the Supreme Court’s ruling "spread like wildfire over the past few hours through the networks of human trafficking organizations," triggering the surge, Sánchez said.

The Spanish Interior Ministry issued its own numbers not long after Vivas spoke, estimating that some 50,000 individuals had come from Morocco since Thursday. It noted that 37,500 had already returned, with hundreds of others heading back to Morocco by the hour.

Brittney Griner files for divorce from wife of 7 years who fought for her release from Russia

WNBA player Brittney Griner has filed for divorce from her wife of seven years, Cherelle, court records show.

Cherelle was a vocal voice during Griner's Russian imprisonment, constantly pleading with U.S. government officials to bring the former Atlanta Dream star home.

When Griner returned home in late 2022, she thanked then-President Joe Biden for his efforts.

"Over the last 9 months you have been so privy to one of the darkest moments of my life and so today I’m just standing here overwhelmed with emotions but the most important emotion that I have right now is just sincere gratitude for President Biden and his entire administration," Cherelle said with Biden and then-Vice President Kamala Harris by her side.

Cherelle thanked several members of the Biden administration, Griner's former Phoenix Mercury, the WNBPA and Brittney’s agency for doing all they could to keep the WNBA superstar in the spotlight after she was detained, sentenced and then transferred to a Russian penal colony in the final moments of her detention.

"Today, my family is whole. But as you all are aware," Cherelle added. "There are so many other families who are not whole. BG’s not here to say this, but I will gladly speak on her behalf and say that BG and I will remain committed to the work on getting every American home, including Paul (Whelan) whose family is in our hearts today as we celebrate BG being home. We do understand that there’s still people out here who are enduring what I endured the last 9 months of missing, tremendously, their loved ones."

The Griners married in 2019 and share a son, but the WNBA star, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported, said the marriage was "irretrievably broken."

Griner was freed in a prisoner exchange for convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout. She was arrested at Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow on Feb. 17, 2022, after Russian authorities said she had vape cartridges with cannabis oil inside her luggage. On Aug. 4 of that year, Griner was given a nine-year sentence after pleading guilty, arguing that she had been prescribed cannabis for her pain and inadvertently packed it. Her sentence was upheld in October, and she was later transferred to a penal colony.

Bout is known as the "Merchant of Death" and the possible swap for him was floated back in May. He was in the middle of a 25-year sentence in federal prison after he was convicted of conspiracy to kill Americans relating to the support of a Colombian terrorist organization.

Griner wrote in her memoir that she expected Cherelle to get a divorce if she had actually stayed in Russia for her entire prison sentence.

"My basketball career would be over. I’d be in my early forties and out of shape, would have to find a new way to provide for my wife. And Relle. She assured me she’d wait, but ten years was ridiculous," Griner wrote, via Complex.

"I went through so many emotions being locked up, and just thinking about nine years," she continued. "We planned on having kids, and doing all these amazing things together, and now I'm thinking, ‘Is that going to happen? How can I ask her to wait?’"

This would be Griner's second divorce. Griner married then-fellow WNBA star Glory Johnson in May 2015, despite both being arrested on charges of domestic violence against one another just three weeks prior. Johnson announced the following months she was pregnant via IVF and a sperm donor, and Griner filed for divorce the next day. That divorce was finalized June 2016.

Griner filed for the divorce on Thursday, and a hearing is slated for Sept. 1. She now plays for the Connecticut Sun.

American Red Cross declares national blood crisis as type O supply drops to dangerous levels

The American Red Cross has declared a "blood crisis" across the nation.

The organization released a warning about the second-ever blood supply crisis this week after blood donations fell to a four-year summer low.

This decline worsens an emergency shortage that "threatens the availability of lifesaving blood for patients across the country," the organization wrote in a press release.

MICROPLASTICS DETECTED IN MOST HEART ATTACK PATIENTS' BLOOD IN STARTLING NEW STUDY

The Red Cross is now limiting distributions of type O blood to hospitals, as the nation’s largest single provider of blood products now has less than a one-day national supply of type O positive blood.

Type O blood accounts for about 60% of Red Cross blood distributions and is essential for both everyday patient care and medical emergencies.

Type O positive is the most commonly transfused blood type, according to the Red Cross, and can be safely given to about 80% of patients.

Type O negative remains the universal blood type "relied upon when every second counts."

While thousands of Americans show up to donate blood, these donations are reportedly not keeping up with hospital demand during summer trauma season.

This summer’s conditions, amid extreme heat, poor air quality and foodborne illnesses, have contributed to lower donor turnout, the Red Cross reported. Other blood collectors have also reported critical shortages this summer.

The Red Cross advised that just three more donors at each blood drive can end the crisis and stabilize the blood supply.

It encourages Americans to book an appointment by using the Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Chris Hrouda, president of Red Cross Biomedical Services, shared information about the developing emergency in a statement.

"The Red Cross takes its responsibility as the nation’s largest single provider of blood products incredibly seriously and has worked tirelessly to strengthen the blood supply for our hospital partners," he said.

Following the organization’s first national blood crisis in January 2022, Hrouda said the Red Cross has put "additional safeguards" in place to help "prevent a crisis like that from happening again."

"But this summer, blood donations simply are not keeping pace with hospital demand, and inventories — especially type O blood — remain under significant strain," he said.

Washington Post opinion editor Adam O'Neal announced his exit from the paper on Friday after roughly just one year on the job.

"I’m writing to announce that I have decided to leave The Washington Post. My last day will be August 31," O'Neal told staff in a memo obtained by Fox News Digital.

"I joined The Post to lead the opinion section as it began a new chapter, and we have made dramatic changes over the past year. We quickly embraced our mission of championing free markets and personal liberties while simultaneously putting Post Opinions on a sustainable footing. Our work has become more relevant, accessible and consequential. We regularly publish world-class journalism that finds the audience where it is," O'Neal wrote before touting improvements in the opinion section's page views and time spent on the site.

A source familiar with O'Neal's exit told Fox News Digital that Post leadership was "blindsided" by the decision and there were no tensions between him and D’Onofrio and owner Jeff Bezos.

O'Neal held an all-hands meeting with staff where he revealed it was a "personal decision" to leave The Post and that everyone in the room was "incredibly surprised," according to a staffer who attended the meeting.

O'Neal did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

O'Neal joined The Post last July after serving as a correspondent for the British outlet The Economist and as an editorial page writer for The Wall Street Journal. Bezos' edict led to the immediate resignation of O'Neal's predecessor, David Shipley.

In his first interview as The Post opinion editor, O'Neal told Fox News Digital in September he felt "a tremendous responsibility to get this right."

Michigan hospital pays $410K to settle lawsuit by physician assistant fired over transgender policy

A Michigan hospital has agreed to pay $410,000 to settle a lawsuit brought by a physician assistant who said she was fired after refusing to comply, due to her faith convictions, with workplace policies related to transgender patients, according to court filings and statements from the parties.

Valerie Kloosterman sued University of Michigan Health-West after she was terminated in August 2021.

"All I wanted to do was provide the best care possible to my patients without being forced to violate my Christian beliefs," Kloosterman said in a statement shared with Fox News Digital.

CHRISTIAN SCHOOL CHAPLAIN WINS SETTLEMENT AFTER FIRING OVER LGBTQ SERMON

First Liberty Institute, which represents Kloosterman, said she had received positive performance reviews throughout her employment before raising faith-based objections to mandatory gender identity training.

The organization told Fox News Digital Kloosterman was fired three weeks after requesting a religious accommodation from finishing a mandatory training that required her to affirm statements about gender identity that were in violation of her Christian faith.

According to First Liberty Institute, UMHW made no effort to accommodate her beliefs. She sued in October 2022.

The lawsuit says University of Michigan Health-West officials called her to a meeting, where they disparaged her religious beliefs, called her "evil" and a "liar," told her she could not bring her Christian beliefs into the workplace, and accused her of contributing to suicides among individuals with gender dysphoria.

The settlement, according to the legal group, calls for UMHW to make a religious accommodation policy that complies with the law, inform and train all employees, give reasonable religious accommodations without retribution to those who request it, and pay the $410,000 in damages and fees to Ms. Kloosterman and her attorneys.

"This new policy ensures that providers of faith and employees at UMHW will receive religious accommodations so that they can provide excellent care consistent with their medical judgment, because all patients are created in the image of God," Kloosterman said in her statement to Fox News Digital.

"Title VII prohibits employers from discriminating against and punishing employees for their faith," Kayla Toney, counsel at First Liberty, said in a statement shared with Fox News Digital. "Valerie is an exceptional physician assistant who cares for each of her patients. Employers cannot drive out people like Valerie just because of their sincere religious beliefs. We are grateful to have resolved this matter with University of Michigan Health-West."

Fauci faces lifetime ban from federal government work under new bill following explosive hearing

A House GOP proposal would bar Dr. Anthony Fauci from working for the federal government again after his dramatic hearing on Capitol Hill this week.

Fauci appeared before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, chaired by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., where he invoked the Fifth Amendment over 100 times.

Republicans have been hammering the former public health official over the move, and now a new bill by Rep. Rich McCormick, R-Ga., would bar him from returning to his old duties and potentially open him to criminal prosecution.

"We saw him evade so many questions, pleading the Fifth... that's fine, that's your constitutional right," McCormick said in a video shared with Fox News Digital. "But you also have the right, if your till comes up short at Burger King, when your boss asks you why are you short $20 in your cash register — if you plead the Fifth, that's your... ability, but I can fire you."

He argued, "It should be the same way in government. If you don't want to answer questions about what you did wrong, we should be able to fire you."

The bill, called the STOP the SWAMP Act, would bar people from working for the federal government if they refuse to answer certain questions from federal lawmakers or if they are convicted of perjury, according to a news release on McCormick's website.

It would also authorize members of Congress to refer hearing witnesses for prosecution if they were found to have unlawfully withheld information from lawmakers, the release said.

Fauci is not currently facing any criminal charges and has consistently denied any wrongdoing. But Paul, a longtime critic of Fauci's, said his committee would begin the process for holding the doctor in contempt of Congress after the hearing.

Fauci appeared before the Senate GOP-led panel on Wednesday amid new scrutiny over how he handled the COVID-19 pandemic, following the release of a diary he kept during the global health crisis.

He told the House Oversight Committee in January 2024, however, "I did not close the schools."

Internet erupts over report that Platner's replacement in key Senate race fathered children with second cousin

Conservatives lit up on Thursday night in response to a report claiming that Maine Democratic Senate candidate Troy Jackson, who recently replaced disgraced candidate Graham Platner on the ballot, fathered two children with his second cousin and high school sweetheart.

The report, from Maine Wire editor-in-chief Steve Robinson, found that Jackson shares two adult sons with a woman named Lana Pelletier, his second cousin with whom he shares the same great-grandparents.

The report pointed out that the relationship is not uncommon in northern rural Maine, where Jackson is from, and that it is not illegal, but many on social media reacted with shock and criticism.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, the Jackson campaign said, "Susan Collins will do anything to distract from the fact that she votes with Trump 96% of the time and has sold out working people in Maine. Personal attacks on Troy's family are shameful and desperate."

Jackson, a former state senator who ran unsuccessfully in the Democratic Maine gubernatorial primary this year, was tapped as the U.S. Senate nominee at the Maine Democratic Party's U.S. Senate Nominating Convention earlier this month.

Graham Platner, who won the 2026 Maine Democratic U.S. Senate primary last month, dropped out of the race earlier this month in the face of a rape allegation, though he had asserted, "Any accusation of non-consensual behavior is categorically false."

The general election, where Jackson will square off against incumbent Republican Sen. Susan Collins, will be on Nov. 3, as Republicans attempt to hold on to their 53-47 majority in the Senate.

Ruston Kelly surrendered to sobriety after a freak accident nearly derailed his life.

Kelly, 37, admitted he was three days sober after relapsing following a golf cart crash in June.

The country music singer reflected on the last few challenging months in a candid social media post shared Wednesday with followers.

Kelly showed fans a gold Narcotics Anonymous token which read, "My gratitude speaks when I care and when I share with others the NA way." Recovery chips are often shared in meetings to commemorate clean living milestones.

"I told myself back in 2021 that as long as I wasn’t using amphetamines that I would be on the right 'clean' journey for myself," Kelly shared on Instagram. "I had never been addicted to any drug other than those pills. I lumped in alcohol and THC etc initially because I thought that’s what I was supposed to do."

"Somewhere along the way I became obstinate in my journey, that I wasn’t an 'addict' in the traditional sense of the word, that I was only addicted to amphetamines. 'I’ve never had a problem with alcohol, I’ve never had a problem with XYZ.' 'See I can be like everyone else, I can show self control, I am in control.'"

Despite reaching a point of "spiritual surrender," Kelly admitted he was only attempting to "live a lifestyle that was satisfactory to my carnal impulses because I 'never had a problem with them.'"

In June, Kelly broke his arm "in half" following a golf cart accident where he overcorrected the vehicle and flipped the cart.

"After my accident where I broke my arm in half, I was given fentanyl morphine ketamine dilaudid and oxycodone for 3 days leaving with a month long Rx of Percocet," Kelly wrote. "I needed it for the level 15 pain but very quickly they started running out sooner and sooner.

"I was chewing them in the pharmacy before I walked out the door. I was hiding how many at a time I was taking. I was complaining to the dr it wasn’t enough."

His new drug dependency "awakened something I hadn’t felt in a very long time."

"On July 26 I decided to end any chance of ruining anything good," Kelly confessed. "For my soul my wife my family my art and career and my people. I admitted that whether I like it or not I will forever have a substance abuse disease."

He added, "ALL drugs/substances including alcohol and THC are off the table for good (working on nicotine) That if there is something that will scratch an itch I didn’t think I had, I will use it beyond excess and into addiction.

Top Wisconsin Democratic socialist candidate confronted on past 'defund police' rhetoric

Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial frontrunner Francesca Hong defended her active membership in the Democratic Socialists of America while attempting to distance herself from some of its most extreme proposals Friday.

Speaking on "America’s Newsroom," Hong was confronted over previous posts endorsing far-left causes like abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), dismantling the Senate and defunding the police. Her appearance came a month after she appeared on Hasan Piker’s broadcast, where she defended many of the DSA’s policies.

Fox News’ Dana Perino questioned whether there was anything Hong disagreed with regarding the DSA platform, to which she responded that abolishing the Senate is "nonsensical and non-practical at this time." She also rejected their platform of getting rid of the Supreme Court, citing a belief in checks and balances.

Perino then asked directly whether Hong was personally a dues-paying member of the socialist organization.

"In my home chapter in Madison, I have been since 2020," Hong confirmed, describing herself as a "democratic socialist," "a good single mom" and a "service industry worker."

However, Perino pressed Hong on past social media posts where she repeatedly called for police abolition, asking: "Why shouldn't people take you at your word when you say that you want to defund the police and go towards abolishing it?"

Hong said her views had evolved, replying, "I believe that people can evolve. We meet Trump voters from previous elections who now would like to vote for me."

"So who needs to evolve, the voter or you?" Perino asked. Hong then rejected her previous position, noting that the governor of Wisconsin would be unable to defund the police, and promising that if elected she "won’t defund the police."

The focus on the DSA’s platform has highlighted a rift in the Democratic Party, as many moderate Democrats reject its policies, despite several DSA candidates notching primary wins, including in New York and Colorado.

In June, Hong appeared on Piker’s stream, where she confirmed aspects of her platform, including supporting universal childcare, free school meals, abolishing ICE, public grocery stores and legalizing cannabis, among others.

Polling has Hong poised to take the Democratic nomination for Wisconsin governor, despite frequently being pressed by outlets about her past statements online. She has been backed by local Wisconsin DSA chapters and has gotten public support from key Democratic figures, including Reps. Ilhan Omar and Ro Khanna.

Hong called for abolishing police in a 2021 social media post after federal prosecutors chose not to charge the officer accused of shooting Jacob Blake, a Black man, in Kenosha. She addressed those comments in a May statement to Fox News Digital but did not say then whether she continued to support abolishing the police.

"There is no way I want to cut resources for public safety," Hong said. "I don’t like crime. I don’t like unsafe streets. I also don’t like when a member of law enforcement abuses their power."

Her campaign also previously addressed her "Abolish the Senate" comments, noting she did not recall making the post in 2021, which came after the Senate failed to convict President Donald Trump during impeachment proceedings.

As shocking videos circulate of migrants pouring over the collapsed border of the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, took a swipe at the country’s socialist prime minister, saying, "That's what happens every single time a politician offers amnesty."

Ceuta, a Spanish territory on the tip of Africa, formally requested a national emergency declaration on Thursday after about 60,000 migrants crossed the border from Morocco. Video shows hordes of men smiling and posing for cameras, some carrying swimming flippers, and sprinting through the streets as authorities struggle to corral the unruly masses. Other footage shows crowds of migrants emerging from the sea, climbing up onto Ceuta's rocky shores and working their way around border fences.

Gill, a young Republican known for his viral takedowns during congressional hearings, blamed the breakdown on Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who leads the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party.

"Spain's socialist Prime Minister announced he would be giving amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. Now, his country is being invaded by hordes of military aged men from Africa," Gill posted on X. "Because that's what happens every single time a politician offers amnesty."

Sánchez's socialist government launched an "extraordinary regularization" program earlier this year that allows eligible undocumented migrants already living in Spain to obtain legal residence and work authorization. The government says the policy promotes economic integration, while critics describe it as a mass amnesty.

Ceuta President Juan Jesús Vivas formally requested that Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez declare a national emergency to help respond to the border crisis, Spanish media outlets reported. Madrid, however, denied the request.

Vivas said on Friday that an estimated 60,000 migrants had crossed from Morocco amid the crisis, with most arriving during a massive surge that began Thursday. Spain’s Interior Ministry put the number closer to 50,000.

Spain's Ministry of the Interior said in a statement, according to Spanish outlet El Pais, that "the declaration of a national emergency is part of the state civil protection regulations, which do not consider migratory flows as a risk to the National Civil Protection System, nor do they establish special plans, basic guidelines, or specific civil protection instruments for their management. Therefore, it is not possible to activate this mechanism, as requested by the president of the Government of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas."

Ceuta’s government initially reported that up to 2,000 migrants had crossed during a 10-day period. But the crisis escalated dramatically Thursday, with local officials later raising the estimated number of arrivals to 60,000.

"The Government of Spain is fully committed to providing an immediate response to the situation in Ceuta. Back in the U.S., the White House has also criticized Sánchez for the collapse, saying in a statement that "President Trump has long warned Europe what would happen if they continue to implement far-left, globalist policies – including enabling mass migration."

"Spain and other countries who have adopted this destructive philosophy should immediately reverse course or risk their own demise," said the White House.

Sánchez, however, has previously claimed that accepting migrants is necessary to keep Spain's economy alive, arguing the country's low birth rates necessitate accepting immigrants.

"The West needs people. Currently, few of its countries have a rising population growth rate. Unless they embrace migration, they will experience a sharp demographic decline that will prevent them from keeping their economies and public services afloat. Their gross domestic product will stagnate. Their public healthcare and pension systems will suffer. Neither AI nor robots will be able to prevent this outcome... The only option to avoid decline is to integrate migrants in the most orderly and effective way possible," Sánchez wrote in a February op-ed in The New York Times.

Fauci’s silence came one day after he declined, on the advice of his attorneys, to answer questions before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, chaired by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky.

Paul argues Fauci’s invocation of the Fifth Amendment was unsupported because Biden pardoned him and said the committee will vote next week on a resolution to hold him in contempt of Congress.

The front page appears to be The New York Times' Sept. 12, 2001, edition, which was headlined, "U.S. Attacked: Hijacked Jets Destroy Twin Towers and Hit Pentagon in Day of Terror." The X account DSA Watch posted a clip of Piker's stream, where he discussed the newspaper front page framed on the wall behind him.

In his handwritten petition filed on Monday, he wrote that "members of Kohberger's immediate family" were present during attorney-client discussions.

Trump rejects Iran blame for Minnesota cyberattack, points finger at 'corrupt' political foe

President Donald Trump dismissed speculation that Iran was behind a cyberattack targeting dozens of water systems in Minnesota, blaming instead the state’s "corrupt governor," Tim Walz, and the state he runs.

"I just want to mention that we heard in Minnesota there was a cyberattack, and they blame it on Iran," he said at the start of a Cabinet meeting Friday at Camp David, Maryland.

"I don't think so. I think I blame it on Minnesota because they're grossly incompetent," Trump said. "There was a cyberattack of 30 water plants, and I would blame it on Minnesota and the governor, the corrupt governor of Minnesota. They like to say, oh, is Iran? Iran should be so lucky. Iran's got bigger problems than worrying about Minnesota."

Trump’s dismissal puts him at odds with a preliminary assessment reportedly shared by U.S. and state officials and comes days after federal agencies warned that Iranian-affiliated hackers were targeting the same kinds of systems. Iranian involvement and poor cybersecurity are not mutually exclusive: previous Iranian-linked attacks on U.S. water facilities exploited internet-connected equipment protected by default or nonexistent passwords.

Waltz shot back in a post on X: "Trump knows exactly who is responsible for this attack, and knows that other states were hit too. This is what modern warfare looks like, and it further illustrates there’s no plan to win a war with Iran."

Trump repeatedly has attacked 2024 vice presidential candidate Walz over widespread fraud in Minnesota’s state-administered social services programs.

Walz, the 2024 Democratic vice presidential nominee, abandoned his bid for a third term in January amid mounting scrutiny of his administration’s handling of the schemes. Walz has not been accused of participating in the fraud.

Minnesota IT Services said the "coordinated cyberattack targeted operational technology at more than 30 Minnesota community water systems" Sunday and Monday, but the Minnesota Department of Health is "not aware of any active requests from Minnesota cities to have their residents modify their drinking water usage."

U.S. and state officials and others familiar with the incident told The New York Times that Iranian hackers were likely behind the cyberattack.

Minnesota IT Services said it has not determined yet whether a "specific actor" was responsible for the attack and the probe remains active.

The attacks disrupted automated operations in several communities.

Malicious software temporarily shut down controls for the well and water treatment plant in Braham, while Plymouth and South St. Paul shifted some operations to manual control. Officials reported no known threat to drinking water.

Federal agencies warned just days before the Minnesota attacks that Iranian-affiliated hackers were targeting the computerized controls used by water systems, power facilities and local governments. The agencies said the campaign had already disrupted operations at some facilities and caused financial losses. Investigators assessed that the hackers were seeking to cause disruption inside the U.S.

Iran has targeted American water infrastructure before.

In 2023, hackers affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps breached programmable controllers at several U.S. water and wastewater facilities, according to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

The hackers generally exploited equipment that was exposed to the internet and still used default or nonexistent passwords. The affected utilities moved some operations offline, and no drinking water was compromised.

In an earlier case, the Justice Department charged an Iranian hacker with repeatedly accessing the control system of a small dam in Rye, New York, in 2013. Prosecutors said the intrusion would have allowed him to operate the dam’s sluice gate remotely, but the gate had been manually disconnected for maintenance at the time.

Tony Romo, arrested a week ago on charges related to operating a vehicle while intoxicated, has been sidelined from his role as the top NFL analyst at CBS, the network announced Friday morning.

"Tony Romo is on leave from his role at CBS Sports until further notice," CBS Sports said in a statement.

It is unclear to what degree the leave was negotiated with Romo – whether he agreed or even requested it so that he could manage the legal and personal ramifications of his arrest.

It is possible Romo wanted this. It is also possible it was foisted upon him by his employer, who saw putting Romo on air during this time as a bad strategy.

The first CBS game scheduled this NFL season is a preseason matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles on Aug. 28. That primetime game begins at 8 p.m.

CBS is poised for an extended Romo leave, according to an industry source who added that Watt has been told his addition to the No. 1 announcing team is indefinite.

Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office deputies stopped Romo on Interstate 43 after observing what their report described as unsafe passing. Authorities said Romo displayed signs of impairment, performed poorly on field sobriety tests and refused a preliminary breath test.

Deputies also reported finding an open bottle of alcohol inside Romo's vehicle. Romo was cited for first-offense OWI, unsafe passing and having an open intoxicant in a motor vehicle before being booked and later released pending a September court appearance.

Year two was appreciably better at 5-7, but still nothing to write home about.

In year three, however, Fisch and the Wildcats were the talk of college football, shocking everyone with a 10-3 record and putting players like QB Noah Fifita and wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan on the map.

Surprisingly, Fisch didn't stick around for another year with Fifita and McMillan in Tucson, opting to take over for the newly departed Kalen DeBoer at Washington.

The cupboard was left pretty bare for Fisch when he touched down in the Pacific Northwest, as the new Huskies head coach had to replace 20 of his 22 starters from the team that went to the national championship game just a season prior.

Fisch showed his chops once again, guiding the Huskies to a 6-7 record and a berth in the Sun Bowl despite having to patch together an entire team from scratch.

After a 9-4 season and a bowl win in 2025, it's safe to see why I'm so optimistic about the Huskies given Fisch's track record of ascending each subsequent season.

Washington didn't take a ton of players in the transfer portal, and while some might view that as a negative, I think it's a sign of things stabilizing for the team.

The Huskies rank in the top 15 nationally in returning production at 65%, just a tick under Oregon and UCLA for tops in the Big Ten and certainly a far cry from his first season in Seattle.

The biggest reason for optimism among those returning starters is quarterback Demond Williams Jr.

After spot duty and a few starts in 2024, Williams blossomed into a legitimate threat both through the air and on the ground and was one of the most coveted players in the transfer portal before he opted to return to Washington for his junior year.

Other talented returning starters include offensive tackle Drew Azzopardi and safety Alex McLaughlin, both of whom are generating plenty of buzz in the preseason.

The schedule sets up very nicely for the Huskies, too, as they play five of their first six games within the friendly confines of Husky Stadium and won't leave the Pacific Time Zone until mid-October.

They also avoid Ohio State and Michigan while they get both Indiana and Penn State at home this year.

If you need a Big Ten darkhorse to ride with in 2026, I suggest you look no further than the Washington Huskies.

They have the coaching, the returning production at key positions, and the schedule to be a real threat this coming season.

Critics rage at rogue red-state senators for blocking Todd Blanche after backing Biden's pick

Republicans online are raging at two turncoat red-state Senators who are obstructing the confirmation of Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to take on the role permanently after just a few years ago endorsing and voting for former President Joe Biden's pick for the same position.

Outgoing Sens. John Cornyn, R-Texas, and Thom Tillis, R-N.C., have both vowed not to confirm Blanche, despite backing former Attorney General Merrick Garland when Biden tapped him for the role. At the time of Garland's confirmation, both Republican senators characterized the polarizing figure as experienced and bipartisan, and swore he would be a responsible leader of Department of Justice (DOJ).

But during Biden's presidency, Garland oversaw a DOJ that twice indicted Trump, prosecuted pro-life activists under an obscure federal law and investigated traditional Catholics as potential violent extremists, all moves that conservative critics argue were politically motivated.

TRUMP THREATENS TO YANK HIS OWN AG NOMINEE AS GOP REVOLT GROWS

The perceived hypocrisy in Cornyn and Tillis was not lost on online critics who raged against their move to block Blanche for ascending to the Attorney General post as Trump threatened to pull his nomination until after the two Republicans are out of office in January.

"Both Tillis and Cornyn voted to confirm Garland and then sat back idly as a weaponized DOJ/FBI destroyed lives for purely partisan reasons," said Mike Howell, president of the Oversight Project. "The Anti-Weaponization Fund would begin to right the wrongs and that is why they oppose Todd Blanche. Pitiful."

Columnist Mark Davis also recalled the pair voting for Garland.

"As John Cornyn and Thom Tillis high-five each other in their attempt to block Trump’s AG pick Todd Blanche, never forget that they both voted to confirm Merrick Garland," he said.

"Pretty incredible that John Cornyn is proving us exactly correct about him after he lost his primary by close to 30 points. Everything we said about him is being proven 1000 percent correct," said Breitbart's Matthew Boyle.

Prominent commentator Julie Kelly mocked Cornyn for a 2021 speech he made in favor of Garland's confirmation.

"Flashback to when John Cornyn gave a full throated endorsement of Merrick Garland so he could 'depoliticize' the DOJ," she said, adding video of the speech.

A popular commentary account that boasts nearly three million followers posted the same video.

"This is exactly why Texas republicans [sic] fired incumbent Cornyn," the account said. "He votes to approve Garland but refuses to support Todd Blanche. Merrick Garland was the most corrupt lawfare AG is U.S. history."

CORNYN PREDICTS TRUMP MIDTERM 'DISASTER,' THEN 'THE MOST MISERABLE TWO YEARS OF HIS LIFE'

During Garland's confirmation, the Texas senator, who lost his primary election in a runoff landslide in June, raved about Garland whom he painted as an objective, apolitical nominee.

"This morning I had a very good conversation with judge Merrick Garland, who President Biden has nominated for attorney general," Cornyn said at the time. "Judge Garland's extensive legal experience makes him well-suited to lead the Department of Justice, and I appreciated his commitment to keep politics out of the Justice Department."

Tillis said at the time of Garland's confirmation that Garland, "has an outstanding record serving our country and has a deep understanding of the law," raving about his reputation for "bipartisanship" and later adding that he had "no doubt he will serve with integrity" and "will respect the constitutional rights and liberties of all Americans."

But earlier this month, the North Carolina senator warned Blanche not to make the same "mistakes that the Biden administration did" if confirmed, referring to the politicization that he Garland would avoid.

Tillis decided last year not to run for reelection. Cornyn, meanwhile, lost his Republican primary race against former Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who was backed by President Trump.

Trump on Thursday blasted the two outgoing Republican senators.

"Todd Blanche is a STAR, and everyone knows it! He has the potential to go down as one of the Greatest Attorney Generals of All Time," Trump said on TRUTH Social. "However, John Cornyn, of Texas, and Thom Tillis, of North Carolina, both of whom I refused to Endorse, and whose political careers have been ended by my action, are refusing to vote for this Great Nominee, who will remain, in any event, as Acting."

Stephen A. Smith only speaks up about important societal issues only when it's politically acceptable

Stephen A. Smith is a politician as much as a sports media personality nowadays. There has been talk about him running for president, he’s cozied up to politicians and has made frequent appearances on political news channels. That’s why I believe his recent comments about Dr. Anthony Fauci and Kyrie Irving seem to be more about scoring political points, than an example of actual courage and conviction.

On Thursday’s episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show titled "Did Fauci Lie to Us All?", Smith called out Fauci following him pleading the 5th Amendment over 100 times in front of Congress, as well as offered a public apology to Kyrie Irving, who he called "selfish" for refusing to get a COVID-19 vaccination shot.

While speaking about Irving, who lost millions because he had to sit out home games in New York during the pandemic, Smith said, "In my opinion, particularly hindsight-wise, it didn't make him stubborn or selfish. It made him brave."

"I watched Dr. Fauci on Capitol Hill yesterday, and the person I thought about most was Kyrie Irving," Smith added.

Then Smith offered his apology.

"There's several people that we all owe apologies to... but none more so than the apology that I owe to Kyrie Irving," Smith stated. "It turns out that, no matter what the truth is behind all of this, Kyrie Irving did nobody wrong. We did him wrong. I did him wrong. And for that, I’m sincerely sorry, Smith stated.

DID THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION PURPOSEFULLY IGNORE COVID VACCINE SIDE EFFECTS?

Due to his inaction, and what I believe to be cowardice when faced with opportunities to take a real stand for the truth, and push against the mainstream prescribed narrative over the years, I’m not going to waste my time praising Smith for saying this in 2026.

Yes, I’m thankful he’s apologizing, whether it’s truly sincere or not. But, Stephen A. only goes where the political tide turns. It’s what he’s been doing for years now, especially since his rebrand to cover more specifically political topics and issues.

Only recently has Smith condemned men in women’s sports and now, he’s condemning Fauci.

How convenient.

Smith also praised Sophie Cunningham for "saying what others are afraid to say." You were one of those people, Stephen A.

Remember Sam Ponder, Stephen A.? She was vilified and reprimanded for ACTUALLY taking a courageous stance against men in women’s sports and spaces. She’s no longer with the network. Where were you to defend her?

Again, while I see the positive in his apology and promotion of common sense, which he was terrified to admit years ago, don’t fault me for rolling my eyes at the idea that these statements are somewhat courageous in their own right.

Kyrie Irving, Novak Djokovic, Aaron Rodgers, Cole Beasley, Tyler Bertuzzi, and every day Americans were relentlessly vilified for not taking an experimental drug during the pandemic. They were gaslit by people like Stephen A. and others in mainstream sports media. Some were even fired during that awful time, such as Allison Williams, who refused to get the jab because she was pregnant.

We all make mistakes. We all need accountability for being wrong and committing wrongs, at times. If Smith had a backbone, though, he would’ve spoken up when it was uncomfortable to do so.

He sounds like a politician, in my opinion. He’s the king of playing both sides.

Sure, I could be wrong about Smith’s motivations with his recent stances after years of silence and compliance with his liberal overlords at ESPN, but don’t fault me for not wanting to applaud him for saying the obvious and truthful things this late in the game. Far too many people have sacrificed jobs, paychecks, connections, and societal status to take bold stands when it wasn't politically convenient and acceptable to the majority.

While at the same time, I recognize the importance and impact of Smith speaking up and apologizing. That is something we should be hoping for from many sports media members, family, friends, politicians, co-workers, and more, as it pertains to these pressing, and still vitally important issues of our time.

Details on Giants outfielder's scooter crash take bizarre twist as team announces he will miss rest of season

Harrison Bader's late-night scooter ride on Saturday night/early Sunday morning has officially cost him the rest of the season, but new reported details show how bizarre his crash turned out to be.

The San Francisco Giants announced earlier this week that the outfielder, who had been limited to 30 games this year due to plantar fasciitis, had a "scooter accident" which further injured his left foot.

However, local reports say that Bader rode his scooter after bar-hopping and crashed it into a San Francisco Fire Department truck at around 1:50 a.m. local time. KPIX reported that Bader was spotted at multiple bars "in different neighborhoods" across San Francisco.

The truck then ran over Bader's foot, causing major injury, according to SFist.

The San Francisco Chronicle said Bader was hospitalized at around 2 a.m.

Giants manager Tony Vitello said Bader was all but shelved for the season with his plantar fasciitis anyway, but the crash ensured it.

Investigators believe Iranian hackers are likely behind cyberattack on Minnesota water systems: report

U.S. investigators believe a cyberattack that targeted dozens of water systems in Minnesota this week likely was orchestrated by Iranian hackers, a report said.

Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) said the "coordinated cyberattack targeted operational technology at more than 30 Minnesota community water systems" on Sunday and Monday, but the Minnesota Department of Health is "not aware of any active requests from Minnesota cities to have their residents modify their drinking water usage."

U.S. and state officials and others familiar with the incident told The New York Times that Iranian hackers were likely behind the cyberattack.

The newspaper reported that three state officials briefed on an investigation into the cyberattack said the tradecraft used and the absence of a ransom demand led analysts to initially determine Iran was involved. Officials also cautioned that the assessment could change as more data is collected by investigators, according to the newspaper.

However, President Donald Trump said during a Cabinet meeting Friday that he would "blame it on Minnesota and the governor."

"Today, I just want to mention that, we heard in Minnesota there was a cyberattack, and they blame it on Iran. I don't think so. I think I blame it on Minnesota because they're grossly incompetent. There was a cyberattack of 30 water plants, and I would blame it on Minnesota and the governor, the corrupt governor of Minnesota," Trump said, referencing Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat. "They like to say, 'oh it's Iran.' Iran should be so lucky. Iran's got bigger problems than worrying about Minnesota."

IRAN-LINKED HACKERS TARGET US MEDICAL TECH COMPANY

The FBI said earlier in a statement to Fox News Digital on Friday that it is "aware of recent public reporting around Water and Wastewater sectors."

"The FBI and our interagency partners are fully engaged to protect critical infrastructure and we remain well-equipped to protect against cyber threats of all varieties," the FBI added.

The New York Times reported that the hackers targeted infrastructure used to manage and monitor water towers operated by municipal governments.

The mayor of the city of Braham, Nate George, said on Monday, a "plant operator found that the water tower was calling for water, but the well was not operating."

"After learning that similar problems were occurring in at least four other Minnesota communities, Braham staff determined that the plant’s computerized control system had been compromised," he continued.

"Public works isolated the affected system, restored a backup, and restarted the plant within approximately 90 minutes. While the plant was offline, residents continued receiving water from the city’s water tower. City administration temporarily requested that residents conserve water to prevent the tower’s limited supply from being exhausted," George added.

In a statement shared with Fox News Digital, MNIT noted that "the investigation remains active, and Minnesota has not attributed the activity to a specific actor."

MNIT said it "continues to collaborate with federal, state, local, Tribal, and private-sector partners to investigate the attack, support affected communities, and strengthen the security of Minnesota's critical infrastructure."

"Cyberattacks against critical infrastructure require a coordinated, whole-of-government response," John Israel, MNIT assistant commissioner and Minnesota chief information security officer, said in a statement. "MNIT is working side by side with our partners to share intelligence, support affected communities, and help utilities restore operations safely while strengthening defenses against future attacks."

Israel told the Times that the breach was first detected Sunday and that hackers targeted 36 municipal water systems.

"Minnesota was one of the early detectors of this, but we’re seeing that this same threat activity has likely been occurring in other states throughout the nation," he was quoted as saying.

Nick Andersen, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) acting director, told the newspaper that the agency was aware of "multiple potential incidents affecting local water utilities."

In the days leading up to the incident, CISA issued an advisory warning U.S. organizations of "ongoing Iranian-affiliated cyber activity targeting internet-connected operational technology (OT) devices."

"Iranian cyber actors continue to target U.S. critical infrastructure, and the FBI is committed to identifying, disrupting, and imposing costs on those responsible," Assistant Director Brett Leatherman of the FBI’s Cyber Division said in the advisory.

It stated that a "group of Iranian-affiliated actors" has "targeted devices spanning multiple U.S. critical infrastructure sectors, including Water and Wastewater Systems, Energy and Government Services and Facilities, to include local municipalities."

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) also issued an advisory on Thursday "to warn critical infrastructure asset owners and operators that malicious cyber actors are conducting cyber attacks targeting Operational Technology devices."
