US Masters Swimming competitor says her grievance for trans athlete comments has been resolved

U.S. Masters Swimming competitor Angie Griffin says she has been cleared of an unsportsmanlike-conduct grievance that left her wondering for eight months whether she would be expelled from the organization, simply for speaking out against trans athletes in women's competitions.

But Griffin says she still cannot access the organization’s online community forum—the same platform where she sought support for changing its transgender-athlete policy.

"I had the actual hearing last month, and in less than a week, I received the resolution, which was that I was not found guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct," Griffin told Fox News Digital.

"It was eight months of wondering if I was gonna be kicked out of swimming over a grievance that should have never been brought up in the first place."

The grievance stemmed from Griffin’s posts on the USMS community forum, where she advocated for aligning the organization’s eligibility rules more closely with World Aquatics and referred to a transgender competitor as a man.

USMS previously confirmed that an individual member—not the organization itself—filed a grievance related to its code of conduct. Griffin said at the time that the case could have resulted in the removal of her swimming times and honors or her expulsion from USMS.

That threat is now gone, Griffin said.

Her forum restriction is not.

"Unfortunately, I’m still banned from using the U.S. Masters community forum, which is the only place I can possibly discuss policy change with any other members," Griffin said. "I’m really upset about it because I was cleared of the wrongdoing, and I’m still not allowed back in the one place where members can discuss the policy."

"I’ve been silenced, basically," she added. "The forum’s the only way to reach other members around the country about policy issues."

Griffin emerged as a critic of USMS after competing against a transgender athlete at the organization’s 2025 Spring National Championship in San Antonio. Griffin previously said she did not learn the competitor’s birth sex until after the meet.

The controversy prompted intense scrutiny of the organization’s eligibility rules. USMS introduced an interim policy on July 1, 2025, before revising it again on Feb. 21, 2026.

Under the current policy, swimmers may participate in the competition category corresponding with their gender identity or expression. However, swimmers seeking national recognition in the women’s category—including records, Top 10 rankings and All-American or All-Star honors—must certify that they were female at birth.

Local awards and scoring can be handled differently in jurisdictions with nondiscrimination laws requiring recognition based on gender identity.

Griffin contends the policy still fails to protect the women’s competition category because it allows biological males to race directly against female swimmers, even when they are ineligible for certain national honors.

She cited a recent Minnesota Masters state championship where she said a transgender athlete swept a women’s age-group category. Griffin said many USMS members remain unaware of how frequently the organization’s policy has changed or what its current rules allow.

"One of my teammates who feels the same way I do about the policy was at a meet down south, and she was shocked that so many members, women and men alike, had no idea that they had changed the policy three times since last year, or that they were even still allowing men to swim against women," Griffin said.

Oklahoma state agency fires staff attorney after anti-ICE social media tirade

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has fired a staff attorney after an internal investigation into an anti-ICE social media tirade that prompted widespread criticism, the agency confirmed to Fox News Digital Friday.

"Once we were made aware of her social media post, we opened an internal investigation," a spokesperson for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation told Fox News Digital in a statement Friday. "Upon completion of the internal investigation, she was terminated. Since this is a personnel matter, we are unable to further comment at this time."

The termination follows Fox News Digital's earlier reporting that the fired staff attorney, Shannon Desherow, had been placed under investigation after posting an expletive-filled video criticizing Immigration and Customs Enforcement and encouraging resistance to federal immigration enforcement.

In a TikTok video reshared by Libs of TikTok on July 9, Desherow said, "Conservatives really think they’re doing something when they say, ‘Just comply’ when it comes to ICE and United States citizens."

"And it just shows that they really just f---ing chirp with no understanding of what they’re talking about, because why the f--- would I comply with someone who has no jurisdiction over me," she asked in the video.

Desherow continued, "ICE has no authority and no jurisdiction over U.S. citizens. So why the f--- would I comply with an order given to me at gunpoint by somebody who has no f---ing authority to make that order? I’m not going to. That’s the f---ing thing."

On her LinkedIn page, Desherow still says she’s "Currently working for the OSBI" as assistant general counsel. Her TikTok page had been set to private but appears to be public again.

Her bio appears to include a Palestinian flag emoji and reads, "Lawyer, mom, bookworm, leftist in a red state (views are entirely my own and not representative of my employer)."

Desherow, according to her LinkedIn, graduated in December 2016 from the University of Central Oklahoma and then received her law degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 2020.

"And an ICE warrant, by the way, 99% of the time, is an administrative warrant. It’s not good enough for the f---ing Fourth Amendment," Desherow said. "It doesn’t give you access to my house, it doesn’t give you access to my car, and it certainly doesn’t give you access to f---ing arrest me. I was born here, and I’m going to make it an ICE agent’s problem. I don’t have to f---ing comply with ICE, because I was born here. And every citizen needs to have that f---ing mindset. We need to make their lives f---ing miserable, and that’s exactly what we should be doing."

In a pinned video on her TikTok page, Desherow said, "I don’t want to hear a single conservative in my comment section chirping about Sharia law because of Zohran's [Mamdani] election. OK, you guys love Sharia law, you love fundamentalist extremism when White people are implementing it."

She also made critical TikToks about Charlie Kirk following his assassination, including one where she said, "Charlie Kirk inherited the society that he helped create. Charlie Kirk and other conservative talking heads like him preach stochastic violence endlessly and then whine and cry when they’re the victim of their own f---ing violent rhetoric."

Fox News Digital reached out to ICE and attempted to reach Desherow for comment.

Illinois worker spent over six hours trapped in gas station sign too tall for fire truck ladders to reach

An Illinois maintenance worker was trapped for more than six hours in a 130-foot-tall gas station sign after his lift malfunctioned.

The worker, who identified himself as AJ Gow, was doing repair work Tuesday on the towering sign, which is located along Lorenzo Road off Interstate 55 in Wilmington.

At 1:55 p.m., the Wilmington Fire District was called to this area on a report of a worker stuck inside one of the enclosed signs atop the sign pole.

"The telescopic boom lift used by the worker had malfunctioned and Fire District personnel were told he had been at the elevated position for around 3 hours," officials with the fire district said in a statement on social media.

Additionally, the sign pole had no stairs or ladders built into it, making it impossible for rescue teams to climb up without another lift, officials said.

Another problem was that the Wilmington Fire District's trucks have ladders that only go 100 feet in the air, which meant Gow was 30 feet out of reach.

Eventually fire officials located another boom lift in the Joliet area, which is roughly 20 miles north of the rest stop. The lift was brought to the sign with an Illinois State Police escort, officials said.

After the new lift was in place, firefighters were able to reach Gow and get him back to the ground, the fire district said.

Gow thanked all the first responders from different departments that came to his aid, saying that "seeing that lift roll up with police escorts was the highlight of my day for sure!!"

Gow later said on social media that he spent over six hours in a cramped position within the interior of the sign.

"I was too hot and thirsty to be anxious. I was moreso nauseous and dizzy. And incredibly uncomfortable to be in for over 6 hours. It was only 16" wide and wasn't even tall enough to stand fully upright either," Gow wrote in response to someone commenting on the fire district's post.

In another comment, Gow said the sign "kept swaying with the wind."

Gow said that after he got down, he went to the hospital to be treated for dehydration. Fox News Digital reached out to Gow for comment.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., is comparing the lack of a federal voter ID law to an identification requirement at one of America's most well-known chain restaurants.

"If you want to go buy unlimited pasta at the Olive Garden, they said you have to show your ID," Scalise told Fox News Digital in an interview earlier this week.

He also pointed out that the 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC) required attendees to show ID in order to enter the venue.

"Democrats are saying it somehow impedes people's ability to participate, yet Democrats themselves wouldn't even let you go to their convention without showing ID," Scalise said. You know, if you're Black, if you're White, if you are Hispanic, if you're Republican, or Democrat, or Independent, you understand that an ID makes sense because it protects your right to vote."

He also listed boarding a plane and buying "a six-pack of beer" as situations where a photo ID was required as well.

"How about the franchise of American democracy? Let's make sure you are who you say you are and illegals can't vote in American elections," Scalise said.

Republicans have emphasized polling showing broad support for voter ID requirements as their main argument against Democrats' opposition to the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act, which was advanced by the House multiple times but has stalled in the Senate.

Democrats have argued the election integrity package is tantamount to voter suppression, claiming it would make it harder for married women who have changed their names to vote and make absentee voting more burdensome. Another provision in SAVE America that's angering Democrats would allow the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) comprehensive access to states' voter rolls.

But Republicans say that's not true. The SAVE America Act, among other provisions, would mandate proof of citizenship in the voter registration process and implement a federal photo ID requirement to vote in U.S. elections.

And Republicans have seized on a temporary promotion at the Italian-American restaurant chain Olive Garden as the latest example of the commonsense reasoning behind photo ID.

Earlier this month, the restaurant chain unveiled a "Never-ending pasta pass," which would give 10,000 customers unlimited pasta for dine-in visits across 13 weeks, for the price of $100.

The Olive Garden website states that "Passholders must present a photo I.D. along with Pass at time of ordering" to ensure one pass is not being shared by multiple people.

House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil, R-Wis., referenced the promotion during debate on a separate voter ID measure earlier this week, which Democrats also opposed.

"The never ending pasta bowl is back at Olive Garden. I used to work at Olive Garden, so this hit close to home. But to safeguard the integrity of their pasta program, Olive Garden, as you may have seen, implemented photo ID requirements," Steil said. "However, in jurisdictions across the country from Illinois and California or Minnesota, an individual can go to the polls on Election Day and cast a ballot without providing confirmation, without providing confirmation of their identity."

That measure, which would require photo voter ID even when sending mail-in ballots, passed the House earlier this week with the help of just 13 Democrats.

Newsom says film tax incentives are bringing Hollywood home but industry experts warn it may be 'too late'

California Gov. Gavin Newsom says Hollywood is returning to its glory after years of production fleeing Los Angeles for cheaper filming locations, but industry experts tell Fox News Digital the sector is still reeling from production "decimation."

"We need a major rescue, like, immediately," Shadowcast Pictures owner Jay Ellison said.

Major studios are increasingly opting to film television shows and movies outside California, such as Canada and overseas in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia, as well as to domestic production hubs in Georgia and New Mexico.

Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison is also reportedly considering relocating Paramount’s headquarters — which could divert billions of production dollars from California — while production of scripted television shows in Los Angeles is down nearly 30% since 2019, according to Luminate data.

"Why did it take so long for the political establishment to take this seriously? Because Hollywood's business has been leeching away for the last three decades," entertainment lawyer Jonathan Handel told Fox News Digital.

StageRunner founder and CEO Jason Fisher, formerly head of production at Disney, Paramount and AMC, said he began noticing the rise of runaway production over two decades ago.

"Production has been slowly and then speeding up really over the last two years, leaving California for other states and other countries and really nothing was done until it was almost too late," he told Fox News Digital.

Several popular episodic television series were filmed outside of California, including Paramount’s "Landman" in Fort Worth, Texas and Netflix’s "Stranger Things" in Atlanta, Georgia.

Despite LA-based studios’ efforts to film locally, the substantial savings available outside of California made production in the Golden State increasingly difficult to justify.

"When I worked at the studios, we talked about a lot. ‘What could we do to keep the show here?’ And when you get to that place where you're just saving millions of dollars by going to some place other than California, they're just aren't any other levers to pull," Fisher said.

The decline in production has sent ripple effects across California’s economy, with more than 80 production service businesses closing in Los Angeles since 2022 because of a lack of work and industry strikes, according to CBS News.

Experts say production work has been hemorrhaging for decades and that Los Angeles has lost tens of thousands of film and television jobs over the years.

"It is decimation, and it's not just like the film rental companies, the production companies — it trickles down to the restaurants, the people supported by the industry here," Ellison said.

Ellison’s camera rental house, Shadowcast Pictures, provided cameras, lighting and other filmmaking gear to production crews for nearly two decades before becoming one of the businesses forced to close.

"We've been injecting our own money to keep the company going. I know lots of others are doing that, and it came to the point where we finally had to say enough because we've had three years of downturn," Ellison told Fox News Digital.

Industry workers who once spent 15 to 20 days a month on set are now working as few as one to 10 days, if they are "lucky," Ellison said. He added that many are hoping to secure jobs on long-running television series in search of greater stability.

"I have networks of friends who are actors, who are crew members, who are directors, who are writers trying to get scripts sold. And if you ask one of them, ‘Have you worked lately?’ You get looked at like you're crazy," Handel said.

"Because we all know the answer, which is … in most cases, no," he added.

The production downturn comes amid major turmoil within Los Angeles' entertainment space. Television City, an iconic Los Angeles studio lot where "The Sonny and Cher Show" and "The Price Is Right" were filmed could be up for sale as its owners struggle with all-time low production levels and $357 million worth of debt.

"I don't know if in a year, two years from now, we're going to be able to call it an industry because so much has left," Jay Ellison said.

"We have Quixote Studios closing their stages here. Then we're going to have possibly this major merger between Paramount and Warner Brothers, are they going to keep two massive studio lots? A lot of questions being raised about that right now," he added.

Meanwhile, Gov. Newsom recently touted California’s Film and Television Tax Credit Program, which he said is on track to generate $6.6 billion in direct production spending back to the Golden State.

"The world we invented is now competing against us ... We've got to step up our game," Newsom said last year when discussing the incentive.

Ellison and Fisher agreed that state leaders were "too late" in recognizing the production problem plaguing the birthplace of entertainment, questioning whether Hollywood could ever fully reclaim its former dominance, even with Newsom’s expanded tax credit.

"The incentive has brought back some production. It's keeping things going," Ellison said. "It's just not nearly enough when you're competing with so many other foreign countries."

"I think it's a start, but I don't think it is enough," said Fisher. "Everyone who works in the industry understands California is the most expensive place to shoot, and it's the most challenging place to shoot. Getting those incentives is still a real challenge."

Experts said financial incentives are not the only factor luring studios elsewhere. Rival production hubs, most notably Atlanta, have developed extensive infrastructure, experienced local crews and vendor networks.

Ellison said that those investments have put Los Angeles in a position where it no longer has a competitive edge against other cities in production resources.

"Other jurisdictions around the world have built up their own capabilities, and they are now attractive places to shoot. And there's only so much that you can stretch the California budget in terms of tax incentives," Handel said.

Now that studios have access to well-established and less expensive production centers elsewhere, Handel said, California will face difficulty winning business back.

"All of that is now what California is fighting against, and it's a tough uphill climb," the entertainment lawyer told Fox News Digital. "It would have been easier to keep the business here than it will be to claw it back with improved tax incentives in California."

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Gavin Newsom’s office said California remains the nation’s top destination for film and television despite "unprecedented competition."

"That’s exactly why Governor Newsom took historic action to more than double California's Film & Television Tax Credit Program, strengthening California's competitive edge by keeping jobs and investment where the industry's unmatched workforce, infrastructure and creative talent have made it the epicenter of the world's entertainment industry for more than a century," the statement said.

"In its first year, the expanded program is projected to generate $6.6 billion in direct production spending across 170 projects, bringing nearly 35,000 cast and crew jobs to communities across the state," it continued.

While some blame California’s political leadership over Hollywood’s production decimation, others are also pointing fingers at the studios themselves.

"Not nearly enough has been done, but at the same time, it's also not up to our elected officials entirely to bring production back to California," Ellison said. "The studios are the ones deciding where they're going to ultimately film, and they're choosing to film overseas because it's cheaper in the end."

Fisher, who held executive roles at major studios, defended the corporations, saying they ultimately bear a "fiduciary responsibility" to shareholders.

"We have a very sharp-edged capitalist system, and the studios are doing what businesses frequently do," Handel said.

JOHANNESBURG: The U.S. is reportedly considering airstrikes against al Qaeda-linked terrorists in Mali, according to regional analysts and recent media reports.

The military junta that has been running this West African country in the Sahel region since coups in both 2020 and 2021 turned away from France and the U.S. to get military protection from Russia and its Africa Corps mercenaries against jihadist groups.

But now the largest of these groups, Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), which has Mali’s capital under siege, is credited, along with another group, for killing 50 Malian soldiers this month, for the death of the country’s defense minister earlier this year and has reportedly sent battalions of Russian soldiers retreating on at least two occasions this year.

JNIM is said to want to change the country into an Islamist Jihadist state. If they succeed, Mali would be the first country in the world to be run by a jihadist group. The organization was designated officially as a Foreign Terrorist Organization during the first Trump administration in 2018.

Islamic State (ISIS) jihadist groups are also operating freely in Mali, and are linked to terror groups in neighboring Nigeria.

A State Department official didn’t respond to a Washington Post report that the U.S. is considering strikes against JNIM in Mali, but used strong language Thursday when talking to Fox News Digital, leading analysts to suggest the time for talking may be over.

"The United States unequivocally condemns the terrorist activity in Mali," the official said, adding, "in the Sahel, the United States is committed to promoting regional ownership and cooperation against terrorist threats, and monitoring indicators and warnings of threats to our homeland."

Edmund Fitton-Brown, a former British and United Nations diplomat, said the U.S. could order military action, to primarily try and stop jihadists becoming entrenched in Mali. Fitton-Brown, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told Fox News Digital, "Mali is mainly important to the U.S. because, as a failed state becoming a safe haven for al Qaeda and ISIS, it looks like the first of several African dominoes likely to fall."

Retired U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Kenneth P. Ekman, who until last year, served as the Department of War’s West Africa Coordination Element lead, said that with strike action the administration may be able to persuade Mali’s rulers to turn away from Russia, and towards the U.S. for protection – and purchases of military equipment.

Ekman told Fox News Digital, "JNIM has a stranglehold on the government and much of the population. The Russians are woefully ineffective and extractive. Cooperation with U.S. forces offers a disproportionate and positive impact."

Ekman said that U.S. forces have supported partner-led operations against JNIM before, as recently as 2022, adding "⁠recent proposals amount to returning to similar cooperation against a mutual threat."

The administration may also be in a minerals frame of mind. Mali is one of Africa’s largest gold-producing nations. It also has substantial deposits of lithium, used extensively in rechargeable batteries.

Fitton-Brown said that "President Trump may be less reluctant than his predecessor to work with the juntas in Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, if they are losing faith in their Russian friends."

He continued, "The U.S. is certainly a more capable partner. France has already been displaced, so all three countries might accept U.S. help if it comes only with strings attached that don’t offend or disadvantage them. Whether even the U.S. is capable of stopping the political decline of these countries, and the rise of militant Islam, is another matter. That cannot be achieved by military force alone."

The FDD’s Fitton-Brown said U.S. assets such as aircraft may not be directly involved if there is a strike, "The U.S. might work with French and other intelligence services to develop local intelligence for strikes on JNIM leadership, but this is unlikely to achieve much. The organization is resilient and will be able to replace those killed."

A former senior Department of War official told Fox News Digital the U.S. has at its disposal cruise missiles and long-range bombers. Attack drones would probably not come into play, and the U.S. Naval Institute’s Fleet Tracker shows no American aircraft carriers anywhere near African waters, effectively ruling out carrier operations.

However, Ekman believes airstrikes are under consideration, noting "JNIM and ISIS are a threat to U.S. interests, and are ascendant in West Africa."

The latest revelations about the purported first ransom note in the Nancy Guthrie case appear inconsistent with a kidnapping for ransom, according to a retired FBI negotiator.

"The fact that they wanted to cut off communication quickly suggests that they may not have had kidnapping for ransom as a primary motive, even though that's what this says," said Jason Pack, a retired FBI supervisory agent. "It doesn't seem like how a usual kidnapping goes down."

He said typical kidnappers want to keep communication channels open to negotiate payment and maintain leverage over the victim's family, making the reported demand for no further contact highly unusual.

"The most telling sign is this no negotiation, no further contact line," Pack told Fox News Digital. "Genuine kidnappers wanna keep the line of communication open."

But cutting off communication before the deadlines passed was also unusual, he added.

Guthrie was taken from her home in Tucson's Catalina Foothills neighborhood in the early morning hours of Feb. 1, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI. She has not been seen since, and no proof of life was ever provided.

In a second purported ransom note, the sender indicated Guthrie had died soon after she was taken and been buried "with nature."

New excerpts from what is reportedly the first note received by local media shed light on why Pack believes the communication departed from a traditional ransom demand.

Briana Whitney, who was working for the Phoenix-based AZ Family news outlet when the case broke, joined "Crime Junkie" host Ashley Flowers on Wednesday to discuss the note her former outlet received. "Crime Junkie" declined to share copies of the text.

"Hello Savannah, we have your mother Nancy," she began, reading from what she said was the first note sent to local media. "She is safe but scared. She will be held for ransom, and once payment is received, she will be released unharmed. We will be holding her for a maximum of seven days."

As previously conveyed by authorities, the sender gave two deadlines with increased money demands the longer it took.

"Once payment is received to the Bitcoin address below, she will be released within 12 hours of deposit to a safe drop-off location back in Tucson," Whitney read. "If the payment is not received by the last deadline on Monday the 9th at 5 p.m., she will be killed. Your mother is aware of this, and her life is in your hands."

The sender left no room for further dialogue.

"It is in the best interest of everyone to have this completed as soon as possible," the note reportedly continued. "You will not be able to contact me from here on out. There will be no negotiation. Do not play games. Law enforcement will not be able to help you."

The note also included details that may have only been available to investigators and the suspect at the time, including the location of Guthrie's Apple Watch and details about the smashed floodlight in her backyard — but even that is not enough to pin down kidnapping for ransom as a motive, Pack said.

"The details about the security camera and the spotlight that was out, that proves that they know what the home was like, what the environment may have been like, but it's not a real proof of life," he said.

In most ransom kidnappings, he said, the abductors will want to prove they have possession of the victim and that the victim is alive.

"All these things put together don't seem really like they go with the kidnapping for ransom," he said.

Investigators appear to be split on the notes' authenticity. While one person has already pleaded guilty to sending an impostor ransom note to Guthrie's other daughter, Annie, and her husband Tommaso Cioni, that case is not believed to be connected to the notes sent to local media stations.

"The FBI and its task force partners have received several ransom notes over the course of this investigation," the FBI's Phoenix office said in a statement in June. "Some have been deemed to be extortion attempts without legitimacy. Other ransom demands may potentially be legitimate and are still being investigated as such. This case continues to be investigated as a kidnapping for ransom case. The FBI has and will continue to offer all assistance possible in the investigation — however local authorities remain the lead."

Some investigators said they were confident that the ransom demands are all bogus, while others are cautious about reaching that conclusion while Guthrie's whereabouts remain unknown, federal law enforcement sources told Fox News and Fox News Digital. Still, the two notes that Whitney mentioned have been deemed potentially authentic by investigators and by the Guthrie family.

The only known suspect remains publicly unidentified — a masked intruder who appeared on Nest doorbell camera video that the FBI recovered with help from Google.

He is described as standing between 5 feet, 9 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall with an average build. He was wearing a black Ozark Trail backpack. It remains unclear whether he acted alone.

"If you have a second home in New York City worth more than $5 million, check your mailbox when you’re back in the five boroughs — because you've got mail," Mamdani posted on X, touting the tax on specific second properties introduced by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul that he supported going into effect soon.

"Today, we sent notification letters to property owners, letting them know that our new pied-à-terre tax is coming soon," Mamdani continued. "The best city in the world deserves the best parks, libraries, and schools in the world. That's only possible when we all pay our fair share. "

As of Friday morning, Mamdani’s post had been viewed over 10 million times and conservatives on social media blasted the mayor and warned that the exodus of wealthy New Yorkers will only continue under this new plan.

In April, New York City Mayor Mamdani and Hochul unveiled the joint legislative proposal targeting luxury second homes worth $5 million or more. Known as a pied-à-terre tax, the annual surcharge is expected to generate an estimated $500 million from affluent out-of-state property owners.

Mamdani has previously said revenue from the tax would go toward initiatives such as free childcare, cleaner streets and safer neighborhoods.

The Trump administration fired a newly sworn-in U.S. attorney just 54 minutes into his tenure.

Now, in what is believed to be the first lawsuit of its kind, he is fighting back.

Roger Rogoff was appointed to serve as the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Washington last week after a panel of district court judges, among them Democratic and Republican appointees, unanimously decided that he should fill the vacant role. The Trump administration fired him just 54 minutes after he was sworn in, prompting Rogoff to file a lawsuit alleging that the Trump administration lacked the authority to remove him.

TRUMP ADMIN FIRES US ATTORNEY IN SEATTLE MINUTES AFTER HE WAS APPOINTED

The legal challenge sets up a novel test of presidential power over court-appointed U.S. attorneys, pitting the Trump administration’s claim of broad removal authority against a federal law Rogoff says allows him to serve until a Senate-confirmed successor takes office. The outcome could determine whether presidents may dismiss judicially selected prosecutors at will — and potentially leave key offices under temporary leadership without seeking Senate approval.

Rogoff argues that, while the law allows the Department of Justice to appoint an interim U.S. attorney for 120 days, after that period has expired, the local district court retains the right to appoint a replacement "until the vacancy is filled," meaning that he can’t be fired until a permanent replacement is approved by the Senate.

Allowing the president to immediately remove any court-appointed U.S. attorney he opposed, according to Rogoff, would permit an administration to circumvent the Senate-confirmation process indefinitely.

"The district court did not coordinate with DOJ on this selection," a spokesperson for the agency told Fox News Digital of the firing. "Consistent with other firings of this type, this is wholly within the President’s authority."

U.S. attorneys serve as the federal government’s chief prosecutors in their districts, overseeing criminal prosecutions and representing the United States in civil cases. They also direct local U.S. attorney’s offices and coordinate federal law enforcement priorities.

"District court judges can appoint a temporary U.S. Attorney, and POTUS can fire them," acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said on X shortly after the firing. "[Western District of Washington] judges abandoned the time-honored process of consultation with the administration so that the selected U.S. Attorney is qualified to serve in the administration."

"Money and Rehab" host Nicole Lapin asked Ackman if he was bullish or bearish on the socialist mayor.

"I'm not a fan," he responded. "He's very smart, very charismatic, very good at politics, but I think the decisions he's making are very bad for New York."

When asked if he'd consider running for mayor, Ackman said, "I would say possibly, but I think I could achieve a lot more by helping a very talented person do that job."

Ackman brought up Mamdani's video detailing a proposed tax on second homes worth more than $5 million. He filmed the video outside hedge fund CEO Ken Griffin's apartment.

"I think he's scaring away, discouraging. You know, you saw the whole video, I'm sure, with Ken Griffin's apartment. Ken Griffin is a massive driver of New York City economic value, about to make a massive investment in New York City, and he has this major presence in Miami, and now he's increasing the presence in Miami and diminishing the presence in New York. That's a disaster," Ackman said in the podcast interview.

He said the many things Mamdani wants to fund and pay for require the revenue of people like Griffin.

"So, if you scare away Ken Griffin, we discourage the Ken Griffins of the world from being in New York City. It's a disaster for New York," Ackman added.

"Developers are risk takers, and they're the last dollar in, and they're not going to risk their capital unless they believe it's a friendly environment for landlords," he added. "New York has become a very unfriendly environment for landlords."

Ackman did praise Mamdani for starting a "DOGE-like" savings effort and said he hoped it goes somewhere.

Mamdani's office did not immediately return a request for comment from Fox News Digital.

The Justice Department’s top Civil Rights official pledged the Trump administration will pursue every provable case of illegal voting under what she described as a "broken windows" enforcement strategy, marking a sharp shift from prior administrations as the DOJ intensifies scrutiny of voter rolls following revelations that noncitizens were registered to vote in New Jersey.

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon told Fox News Digital the department's approach is to investigate every credible lead and prosecute every case supported by the evidence, rejecting what she described as the prior view that only widespread fraud or election-altering misconduct warranted federal action. The pledge follows revelations from Democratic New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill that thousands of noncitizens ended up on the state's voter rolls through the motor-voter system.

"What’s different, first of all, is the people in charge — and ‘people are policy’," Dhillon said when asked why the DOJ under previous administrations often uncovered alleged election-related wrongdoing but rarely secured convictions.

"[Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche] and I and the other fine career and political lawyers at the Department of Justice are dedicated to enforcing our federal civil rights laws. It is correct that in prior years, there has been this attitude that, unless there's some kind of wholesale fraud, or it changed the outcome of the election, it isn't going to get prosecuted, but that's not our attitude."

Dhillon said her prosecution philosophy follows a "broken windows" strategy, originally popularized by then-New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton, which focused on enforcing minor offenses to deter more serious crimes.

"We need to go after every single one of these violations … I can't talk about a lot of what we're doing publicly, but activists and others are giving us leads. Local officials are giving as leads. And we are carefully running down each of these leads."

Dhillon emphasized prosecutors will bring charges only when supported by evidence that is "100% correct."

"If one does not lead to a conclusion that that person voted illegally, and I'm glad I did my due diligence rather than shooting from the hip."

When noncitizens are found to have voted illegally, Dhillon suggested the DOJ will pursue penalties such as barring them from future naturalization.

A former vice chair of the California Republican Party, Dhillon considered whether New Jersey's figures could be extrapolated to other states, including California.

"I think there are more than 400 [illegal votes cast in New Jersey] I'm willing to bet. New Jersey is a small state. I came from California where I lived for the last 25 years. I'm going to predict if I were in prediction market mode that the figures there are orders of magnitude higher," she said.

"And the system is frankly rigged in such a way that officials don't want know. People check off a box. Nobody checks whether people are citizens or not. And nobody checks duplicates. It's a sloppy mess in most of the United States, and we Americans deserve better."

When asked about Dhillon’s comments regarding California, an official in Gov. Gavin Newsom’s press office said the Democrat does not administer elections, count or certify results and hopes vote tabulation can be completed faster following June's marathon primary period.

Newsom recently signed the state's FY-2027 budget, which includes about $40 million for increased county staffing, technology upgrades and voter outreach, and approved a bill cutting the vote-count deadline from 30 days to 13.

Fox News Digital reached out to California Secretary of State Shirley Weber for additional comment.

Dhillon said the New Jersey situation underscores why other states should partner with the federal government and turn over their electronic voter data.

Many Democrat-led states have balked at such requests and are being sued in turn. Dhillon said the national problem lies in automatic registration policies combined with a "flood of illegal aliens."

Dhillon said the DOJ sent "election monitors" to key Arizona counties during Tuesday's primary and confirmed the agency will deploy federally trained monitors to several jurisdictions nationwide going forward.

When asked what happens at the end of the five-day window her letter gives Sherrill and New Jersey Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell to respond with voter data, Dhillon said her staff has filed an additional pleading in an ongoing suit against Caldwell as to why turning over the rolls is necessary.

"With respect to this five-day window, we're looking for voluntary enforcement and what your viewers need to understand is that through a variety of court doctrines, there's window. After which you can't update the voter rolls," she said, noting most states' 90-day windows are closing.

Meanwhile in Trenton, state Senate Oversight Committee member Joe Pennacchio sent a letter to Blanche asking the DOJ to not only probe voter rolls but the entire motor-voter framework blamed by Sherrill for the problems.

The French vendor that provides the technology for the system pushed back on Sherrill on that front, saying the issues do not lie in their systems but in the Department of State.

"The People of New Jersey deserve more than empty assurances from the same government that oversaw this foreseeable failure," said Pennacchio, R-Boonton.

Of course, they also had to honor BLM before Fauci's disastrous first pitch. This was back when society still hadn't realized how much of a sham that operation was.

That "baseball season," we saw BLM flags and banners at every game, there were no fans, and coaches and umpires had to mask up before they argued.

Seriously:

Again, it was such a silly summer. Such a silly time. Our kids will read about it one day in the history books, and they will just laugh at us.

And we'll have to just sit there and take it. There's nothing we can say or do. We'll have to sit there and laugh at ourselves, right alongside them.

At least, though, we didn't throw the worst first pitch of all time.

That honor belongs to Dr. Anthony Fauci, who was the biggest fraud of all from that miserable time period.

Perhaps we all should've known the second he spiked the ball four feet in front of him that he didn't have a clue what he was doing?

Days before the Super Bowl LIX-winning Philadelphia Eagles paid a visit to the White House to celebrate their title, star running back Saquon Barkley took it a step further.

Fresh off a 2,000-yard campaign to be named the Offensive Player of the Year, Barkley rode Air Force One and spent a day with President Donald Trump at his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Barkley received quite the blowback but defended himself at the time.

"lol some people are really upset cause I played golfed and flew to the White House with the PRESIDENT," Barkley posted to X at the time. "Maybe I just respect the office, not a hard concept to understand. Just golfed with Obama not too long ago… and look forward to finishing my round with Trump ! Now ya get out my mentions with all this politics and have amazing day."

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart introduced Trump at a New York event in May and received similar criticism. As someone with experience, Barkley learned the hard way that "you got to stay away from politics."

"You're not going to win. I played golf with the president of the United States of America, Mr. Trump, and I played with Barack Obama, and the one day I play with Trump, all these crazy things were said about me, and now I'm this person, I'm that person, and I don't align – some of the stuff that I don't even align with. But it's just, as an athlete, you know, you're not going to win. You're not going to win on that..." Barkley told Fox News Digital in a recent interview.

Several teams, most notably in the NBA, have skipped out on the White House visit, but a D.C. trip for champions is all Barkley has ever known.

"You may not get that opportunity again, and it's no guarantee that we're going to win a Super Bowl again, and if we win a Super Bowl, growing up my whole life, what do you do? You win a Super Bowl, you go to the White House, you represent your team," he said.

Barkley was offered a position on Trump's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition but declined.

The criticism Dart received, however, wasn't just from the outside, but also his own locker room. Defensive lineman Abdul Carter said he thought the video of them two was "AI," adding, "What are we doing man?" Carter and Dart told reporters they discussed the matter and even hugged it out after they spoke to the media about the ordeal.

More than 70 years after Hugh Hefner founded the men's magazine brand, newly-appointed editor-in-chief Philip Picardi and David Miller, Playboy’s president of media and brand, were tasked with reviving the publication for an ever-changing audience.

A celebrity-focused relaunch to promote the iconic Playboy Playmates and Bunnies began in April with Colombian pop star Karol G on the cover. The sold-out print run lead efforts for a larger print run of its latest issue featuring supermodel Cara Delevingne in only a latex corset.

Adrienne Uthe, founder of Kronus Communications, exclusively told Fox News Digital that it's essential for Playboy to evolve if they want to survive a reinvention.

"It's not about erasing who you were — it's about carrying the core of what made you iconic into a context that makes sense today," Uthe said. "Playboy knows what it is. The question is whether it can translate that into something the market is ready to receive."

Picardi recently told the Press Gazette that focusing on what "initially drove its prestige and its buzz and its interest and its loyalty, which was of course its storytelling" was paramount for Playboy's revival.

"There’s always been a difference between Playboy and porn, especially the kinds of porn that are really prevalent today and that people have access to just by having a Twitter account or a Reddit account," Picardi told the outlet. "And so I actually found the challenge of bringing back an artfulness and a thoughtfulness to nudity to be super exciting as a creative."

In addition to featuring Playmates of the month, photoshoots are featured online and across social media platforms. Picardi also admitted that cover stars are "fully involved" in the creative process, including approval over photographers and stylists.

Uthe agreed that power dynamics were still very much in play, albeit with unbalanced scales.

"The cultural headwinds are real — but they're not as uniformly strong as people assume," Uthe said. "Yes, #MeToo shifted the conversation around how women are viewed. But look at OnlyFans: over 300 million registered users, creators earning billions annually.

"The appetite for adult content and sexual expression didn't disappear — it just moved, and in many cases toward platforms where women hold the power."

"The partners need to embody what Playboy is becoming, not just lend their audience to it. Done right, this accelerates everything. Done wrong, it reads as desperate."

Despite heightened interest in publishing a new version of past pleasures, the brand still has an uphill battle.

"The brands that make it back are the ones that stop defending their legacy and start building the next chapter. Playboy has the name. The question is whether they have the discipline to survive."

The once-monthly print magazine went quarterly in 2019 and then shuttered in March 2020 during the pandemic. Special print issues were released before CEO Ben Kohn brought in a new team.

In 2025, the company made $120.9 million, with a net loss of $12.7 million, compared to $79.4 million in 2024, according to an earnings release.

Miller said there's interest in reviving Playboy-style parties, sporting events and research, but that they still want to make the brand "respectful, and we want to make it modern, and feel like it’s inviting and inclusive for all individuals."

Media executive Derek Reisfield, who previously served as CBS's vice president of business development, noted that Hefner was "very creative" about his brand growth and distribution.

"He had the Playboy clubs ... It was a lifestyle thing," Reisfeld told Fox News Digital. "They had licensing, which is almost pure profit. The magazine was this great engine that then also enabled them to get into filmed entertainment with the Playboy Channel."

He added, "But the Internet came along and basically blew all these guys out of the water because there was a proliferation of pornography and semi-pornography, and it was all accessible. It was pretty cheap and and so that sort of killed it.

"They're trying to figure out how do I thread the needle in this new world where all this stuff is available to people and a lot of it's not really differentiated."

Celebrities and earned media appear to be the driving force for the business, which Reisfield admitted was "difficult positioning" for the publication.

Urgent Yellowstone fishing closures hit 3 rivers as water turns deadly

Visitors heading to Yellowstone National Park this summer will find some of the park's best-known fishing rivers closed due to extreme water temperatures.

In a July 15 announcement, National Park Service (NPS) officials from Yellowstone said the Madison, Firehole and Gibbon rivers would be temporarily closed to fishing until further notice.

The affected rivers are all located on Yellowstone's west and northwest sides, near some of the park's busiest attractions, and the Firehole River flows through the Old Faithful area.

HIDDEN DANGER AT POPULAR US NATIONAL PARK FORCES TRAIL CLOSURES AS BEAR SIGHTINGS CLIMB

The closures are in effect 24 hours a day. Officials blamed unusually warm water temperatures, which can be lethal to Yellowstone's famed trout.

"In recent days, peak water temperatures have ranged from 80 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit during the day," the notice said.

"Coupled with high air temperatures, these conditions are lethal to trout, and there have been reports of dead fish in the Firehole River."

Officials added there are currently no heat-related fishing restrictions on other lakes, rivers or streams in the park.

The temporary closures will "protect the park's native and wild trout fisheries and will remain in effect until conditions improve," according to the NPS.

Trout struggle to survive in exceptionally warm water because their bodies warm along with their surroundings, said Steven J. Cooke, a biology professor at Carleton University in Canada.

"Fish are ectotherms, which means that their body temperature is the same as the water temperature," Cooke told Fox News Digital.

"At high temperatures, trout struggle to obtain enough oxygen and may not recover upon release."

Cooke, based in Ottawa, Ontario, added that anglers "need to get used to such closures, as they will become more common."

Amazon Teacher of the Year winner accused of preying on 14-year-old student

A former Massachusetts middle school teacher who received a national teaching award from Amazon is accused of raping a 14-year-old student and committing other offenses during the 2022-23 school year, prosecutors said.

The Essex County District Attorney’s Office said 38-year-old Tymond Tran, of Hudson, New Hampshire, pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Essex County Superior Court to charges of rape of a child aggravated by an age difference of 10 years or more, indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or over, exhibiting a child in a nude or lascivious pose, and distributing obscene matter to a minor.

Prosecutors allege the offenses involved a then-14-year-old student while Tran taught eighth grade at Thurgood Marshall Middle School in Lynn during the 2022-23 school year.

Tran remains free under strict court-ordered conditions while the case proceeds.

"I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I'm like, 'I never once said that,'" Cunningham told the outlet. "I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men.

"I'm very much in the middle. I agree with things on both sides, disagree with things on both sides. And that's all I've ever said about my political beliefs. But people love to assume."

That's what folks are furious about right now. Seriously. That's all Sophie Cunningham said, and it let to a an absolute GRILLING before Wednesday's game.

Here we are for another Friday Screencaps & July just keeps chugging along with below-normal temps (for now) and an upcoming weekend tee time on my calendar for the first time this month. After the golf trip blowout in June, I had to lay low, which I accomplished. Now it's back to the links and celebrating summer, but, first, we have to analyze this Brock Bowers engagement video that was posted on Thursday.

Bowers is the Raiders tight end who will likely end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. At some point this week, he proposed to his influencer girlfriend, and Tennessee grad, Cameron Newell. The key here is that this is being sold as a hidden camera proposal, with perfect audio, and blue checkmark Instagram influencers are eating it up.

"IM SOBBING YOU GUYSSSS," Kenny Pickett's wife gushed on Instagram.

I'm not. I'm wondering how the production team pulled this off. Are they mic'd up? Did some wedding planner plant microphones in the ornamental grasses?

And before your wife attacks me with hate emails, I'm truly happy for these two. Brock's 23. He could've gone into next week's training camp without popping the question. He could've put his head down and grinded through another NFL season with a loyal girlfriend, but the guy stepped up for humanity.

Now they'll probably have like four kids and repopulate the U.S. I'm going to celebrate that every single time.

And while we're at it, are those card breaks where the influencers find some 1/1 card worth $500k staged?

How should I deal with a neighbor whose cig smoke is wafting into our yard, patio and into our house when we have windows open?

Would it be weird to bring in industrial fans and shoot the smoke back at the neighbor? Last night, I was on the patio with Mrs. Screencaps. She was running drip tube to her plants. I was pulling weeds and watching/listening to the final 50 miles of stage 18 of the Tour de France when it happened.

It's happened multiple times over the years. The neighbor lady will light up a cig on a calm, cool night, and without fail, the cig smoke gets up into the jet stream and guess who gets to smell it? We do.

Guess who cannot have their windows open because the smoke blows right into our windows? Yep, us.

I was hoping to not have to bring in box fans to cleanse the air on our patio, but that might be my only option here. Save the emails telling me to have a conversation with the neighbor. No thanks.

– John C. in Bowling Green, KY has something to get off his chest: Regarding the Cracker Barrel conversation, their problems are self-inflicted. I met with a men's group every week for breakfast there. The Old Timer's breakfast was $8.99 a short time ago. It's now $11.99, a 33% increase, but it now does not include grits and there is a $1 upcharge to substitute regular hash browns for the hash brown casserole. Even worse is that a cup of regular coffee is $3.39. Shameful!

Iowa gubernatorial hopeful Zach Lahn tells 'Ruthless' Democrats are hiding their bad policies

Republican Iowa gubernatorial candidate Zach Lahn said Democratic opponent Rob Sand is pretending to be someone else during an exclusive interview on the "Ruthless Podcast."

"[The Democrats] are realizing that their ideas don't sell," Lahn said in an interview released Friday morning. "So what do they have to do? They have to pretend to be somebody they're not."

Lahn drew attention to Sand’s endorsements from national progressive figures like Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

A farmer and businessman, he noted that his campaign highlighted agricultural issues in a manner that resonates with voters on the ground.

"A lot of our campaign, even in the primary, people said, ‘you can't run a Republican primary running on the issues you're running on,’" said Lahn, who received the first endorsement from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) PAC. "And I said, ‘We can because this is what the people actually care about.' I know because I'm with them. I'm one of them."

Lahn shocked the political world when he won a crowded primary in early June, which included knocking off favorite Rep. Randy Feenstra, R-Iowa, who was endorsed by President Donald Trump. Trump has since endorsed Lahn.

Sand's campaign fired back in a comment to Fox News Digital.

"Zach Lahn is a career political operative who can’t answer basic questions about where he lives," Sand deputy campaign manager Emma O'Brien said. "Meanwhile, Rob Sand has support from across the state and across the aisle, including from over 2,400 registered Republicans and over 6,000 no-party voters, because Iowans trust him from his work as State Auditor and know him from his regular visits to their communities. Iowans aren’t buying what career political operative Zach Lahn is trying to sell them."

Podcast co-host Josh Holmes commended Lahn for his unique approach to healthcare policy.

"You don't get a lot of Republicans nationwide that want to weigh deeply into it," Holmes said.

Earlier this week, Fox News released its projections for gubernatorial races across the country. In Iowa, the Democrats are currently favored to beat Lahn. However, no Democrat has won Iowa's governor's race since 2006, and the state has also gone for Trump handily in three straight presidential elections.

Holmes had an optimistic tone when analyzing the race.

"What has happened to the Democratic Party over the last 20 years, in particular in states like yours, is that they just no longer resonate," Holmes said. "They’re culturally divorced from what it is that families are dealing with on a day-to-day basis."

The interview took place as part of the "Ruthless" Midterm Interview Series, an ongoing initiative to interview major candidates across the country. The hosts have already interviewed candidates in 18 states, with more scheduled ahead of the November midterms.

The New York Times has my opponent, I think, two days ago, as a very likely person to jump right into a presidential campaign."

Secret Service offers glimpse into WHCA Dinner security after alleged Trump assassination attempt

The Secret Service is giving a behind-the-scenes glimpse inside the strategy to protect President Donald Trump and guests at Friday night's rescheduled White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) Dinner.

The originally scheduled event in April was done before it even started after a crazed gunman bolted through a security checkpoint and was later accused of trying to assassinate the 47th president.

"Our agency grows and adapts from every event we secure, and we have engaged with WHCA to ensure attendees are given timely information in the unlikely event on an emergency during the event," Anthony Guglielmi, Secret Service's communications director, told Fox News Digital.

Guglielmi noted that the Secret Service's protection plan worked during the April 25 dinner when agents stopped Cole Allen of California after he allegedly descended from the 10th floor of the Washington Hilton Hotel, where the dinner is historically held, and attempted to breach security barriers. He allegedly fired one shot from a shotgun before tripping and falling, after which he was quickly detained. One Secret Service agent was shot and sustained minor injuries.

The rescheduled dinner is set for Friday night at the Waldorf Astoria on Pennsylvania Avenue, which is housed inside the Old Post Office Tower and was previously owned by the president and called the Trump International Hotel. It's the first time in decades that the annual WHCA Dinner is not being held at the Washington Hilton.

Those attending the dinner will enter the ballroom through a door separate from the main lobby and entrance of the hotel.

"Guests will see a visible police presence around the Waldorf Astoria hotel and there will be enhanced traffic closures due to proximity to major thoroughfares," Guglielmi said. "All ticketed guests will go through airport-style magnetometer screening to enter the event."

"Roads immediately around the hotel will be closed Friday evening, and specifics about closures will be communicated in the coming days."

TRUMP URGES NEED FOR SECURE WHITE HOUSE BALLROOM AFTER DINNER SHOOTING, SAYS HOTEL SETTING ‘TOUGH’ TO PROTECT

Guglielmi added that exact arrival instructions will be communicated specifically to ticket holders, and that each ticket will be screened by event staff prior to Secret Service security.

Notably, the dinner is significantly scaled-back from the usual event, which typically hosts 4,000+ guests inside one of the largest ballrooms in the District of Columbia — second only to the convention center Marriott Marquis. The Waldorf Astoria ballroom can host a maximum of 1,300 people for tight banquet seating.

At the dinner, Secret Service Police Officer Victor Gonzales, who was shot by the alleged gunman, will be awarded the President’s Award for Exceptional Service to the WHCA for his actions protecting Trump and event guests during the April attack.

"The WHCA is deeply grateful that law enforcement officials prevented the armed suspect from entering the ballroom," said Weijia Jiang of CBS News, who as president of the association presided over the April dinner.

"Officer Gonzales played a significant role when he ran toward danger so that thousands of others could make it home safely. His courage stemmed from a dedication to service, which we are looking forward to honoring this week."

WHCD SHOOTING SUSPECT PLANNED TO TARGET TRUMP OFFICIALS, MANIFESTO REVEALS

According to a court filing in the proceedings against Allen, the alleged gunman boarded an Amtrak train on April 21 after purchasing a one-way ticket from Los Angeles to the nation's capital, stopping in Chicago to change trains. While he rode, prosecutors say he "kept a running note on his phone of his observations and thoughts during his cross-country train journey."

His musings along the way, in tandem with what he wrote in a later manifesto, paint a picture of an unfocused person whose thoughts were "scattered," as one former FBI behavioral analyst said, despite the gravity of the situation.

While he traveled through the U.S. Southwest on the first leg of his trip, Allen made a note: "[t]he southwest desert in spring Distant wind turbines looming like snowy mountains across the hazy NM desert."

Of Chicago, where he would switch trains and board a second train to his final destination, Allen wrote that, "Chicago is cool; kinda like an Iowa small town was scaled up to LA size." Of the sliver of southwestern Pennsylvania through which he would pass, he wrote that the "woods are awesome (look like vast fairy lands filled with tiny trickling creeks in spring apparently."

Allen arrived in Washington, D.C., early in the afternoon on Friday, April 24. He spent about 30 hours in the city before initiating his alleged attack.

Surveillance video from the Washington Hilton hotel, also released by the Department of Justice, showed Allen apparently pacing through hallways, once entering the hotel's fitness center and taking a look around before hastily exiting.

Minutes before the attack, a pre-scheduled email from Allen was sent to his family and friends, explaining his actions, according to authorities.

He allegedly acknowledged that his mission would likely severely harm him at the least, but never stated that he was willing to die for his cause. His motivations were political, and he painted himself as a savior of the oppressed. He apologized profusely to family, friends and everyone he had come in contact with on his cross-country trek. He noted that there were certain people he hoped wouldn't be caught in the crossfire, and described himself as "friendly."

Allen remains in federal custody in Washington, D.C., while awaiting trial on four charges.

Those charges are attempting to assassinate the President of the United States, discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence, transporting a firearm across state lines and assaulting a federal officer with a deadly weapon.

'Ransom Canyon' star Josh Duhamel says he'd rather put money into North Dakota after selling Los Angeles home

Josh Duhamel is ready to set down roots somewhere other than Los Angeles.

In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, the 53-year-old actor discussed season two of "Ransom Canyon," as well as his decision to sell his LA home following his move to North Dakota.

"Well, we still have a house in Los Angeles that we have because I have a 12-year-old son who goes to school there and will be there until he's done with school," he said. "So we go back and forth between Fargo, North Dakota and Los Angeles. The house that I just sold was the house that was sort of my transition space between when I got divorced and when I started a new family."

He explained that after "renting it for the last couple of years," he decided to sell it, adding, he realized he would "rather put that money in North Dakota."

The "Life as We Know It" star sold the 3,310-square-foot $2.9 million home in Encino earlier this month, a little over a year after he spoke to Parade about his decision to move out of Los Angeles to spend time in Minnesota, living an off-the-grid lifestyle in a home he spent 15 years building.

"The closest store is 40 miles away," he explained to the outlet. "Once we get there, it's really about everybody taking care of each other — making memories, spending time with family and friends."

Duhamel lives in Fargo, North Dakota, with his wife, Audra Mari, and their two kids – son Shepard, 2, and daughter Rocca, who is 2 months old – with his 12-year-old son, Axl, whom he shares with his ex Fergie, joining them from time to time. The family will often spend time at their off-the-grid cabin in Minnesota.

In addition to allowing his family to "get back to the basics," and his children to grow up exploring nature rather than being on their iPads all day, Duhamel says living an off-the-grid lifestyle in their Minnesota getaway has helped him prepare for his role in "Ransom Canyon."

"I think that when I first met with April Blair, the showrunner, I was at my cabin, literally out there on my tractor doing something, and I was kind of in that headspace already," he said. "There are a lot of similarities. I don't have a horse, I don't have cattle, but I do have a lot of tractors, a lot of ranchy stuff out there, and I think that I sort of live this life, or something closely adjacent to it."

He added: "Anyway, so I felt like I really sort of understood the love of your land, the legacy, taking care of the people around you, all those things that I think are sort of the same themes as ranch life. And I think that that, they, do sort of inform one another."

The show is a neo-Western drama on Netflix starring Duhamel and Minka Kelly, and follows the lives of three rival ranching families in the Texas Hill Country.

In the show, Duhamel plays the owner of Double K Ranch, one of the biggest ranches in the canyon, who in season one is still grieving the loss of his wife and son, and is willing to do anything to protect his family's land and legacy.

Season one of the show saw a budding romance between Duhamel and Kelly's characters, who plays his wife's best friend who has always had feelings for him.

"Constant sort of balance that we're trying to strike on the show in that I want to make sure that we keep it rough and sort of gritty and cowboy Western and then there's forces that want to pull it way into the romance, which I get," he said. "But it's finding that balance between the two so it's still a Western, and it still has that kind of gritty Western vibe."

"Ransom Canyon" season 2 is now streaming on Netflix.

Connecticut Sun guard Saniya Rivers wasn't taking Wednesday night's loss quietly after Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever steamrolled the team 123-88.

After taking the loss and the taunting, Rivers took to Threads to defend her pride and insist she had zero regrets about jawing with Clark: "Girl idgaf if we're down by 50, I'm NEVER tolerating disrespect. As long as there's time left on the clock, ima keep hoopin. period."

The whole dustup boiled down to one question: Did Clark pointing to the scoreboard during a 35-point blowout somehow cross the line?

With 28.8 seconds left in the third quarter and Indiana cruising 95-67, Rivers got in Clark's face after a routine foul and told her she was getting "locked up."

Meanwhile, Clark was busy hanging 27 points and 11 assists on the Sun on 8-of-13 shooting in just 27 minutes.

Clark didn't waste time arguing. She repeatedly pointed to the scoreboard in front of Rivers and barked, "Scoreboard!"

Officials quickly stepped in anyway, issuing double technical fouls. The whistle did carry real consequences for Indiana, giving Clark her seventh technical of the season. Under WNBA rules, an eighth technical triggers an automatic one-game suspension without pay, leaving the league's biggest draw one whistle away from sitting out.

It has been another eventful week for Clark, who continues to rack up rivals on the court and critics off it. Rivers is simply the latest name added to that growing list.

USA Today columnist Nancy Armour recently drew widespread backlash after invoking Emmett Till in an opinion piece criticizing Clark and her fan base, another example of how even routine moments involving the Fever star quickly snowball into national talking points.

While critics hyperventilate and opponents lecture about respect, Clark keeps selling out arenas, drawing record television audiences and giving people a reason to watch the WNBA.
