Mamdani ripped over record-high NYC rents with critics pointing to policy they say is fueling crisis

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is facing renewed criticism over housing affordability as rents in Manhattan and Brooklyn hit record highs, with conservative commentators arguing that immigration-driven demand is adding pressure to an already tight rental market that the mayor campaigned to ease.

Manhattan's and Brooklyn’s median rents reached $5,295 and $4,350, respectively, in June, according to an analysis conducted by the Corcoran Group, a real estate firm. The most recent available data shows roughly 38% of New Yorker residents were born outside the United States, and about 40% of rentals in the city are occupied by foreign-born individuals, though the data does not distinguish between legal and illegal immigration status.

"You declared yourself a sanctuary city. You ‘welcomed’ hundreds of thousands of illegals. Then you had to find places to put them," conservative radio host Andrew Wilkow wrote on X, reacting to news of increased rents. "That put pressure on housing supply. Shortages create price increases. It's pretty simple."

A 2003 paper published by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia found that immigration "pushes up rents and housing values in destination cities," with an immigration inflow equal to 1% of a city’s population associated with about a 1% increase in average rents and housing values. More recently, a paper published by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas in March found that a 1% increase in illegal immigrants working in a given area corresponded to a 1.4% increase in rental prices because localities did not build enough new housing to match population growth.

Both papers reflect the authors’ findings and do not represent official positions of the Federal Reserve System or its regional banks.

"Young Americans compete for housing with millions of foreign arrivals," Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, wrote on Monday in response to the rent data out of New York City.

Between 2020 and 2023, the most recent years available, the share of renter households associated with foreign-born New Yorkers rose from 37% to 40%, according to the New York City Housing and Vacancy Survey. The data does not distinguish a resident's legal status, making it unclear whether illegal immigrants represent an increased share of renters.

New York City Comptroller Mark Levine, responding to news of rising rents on Sunday, recommended that the city rezone neighborhoods to allow more homebuilding, invest in affordable housing development, and cut construction regulations to increase housing supply and bring down costs.

Conservative lawyer Mike Davis responded to Levine’s recommendations by asking, "How about deporting illegals?"

The White House claims that declining rental costs in the South and Southwest have been caused by its deportations, a claim disputed by critics who point toward broader market conditions. A March 2024 academic study found that deportations could actually increase overall housing prices by harming the construction industry, though the authors conceded that removing illegal immigrants could also cause housing demand to come down somewhat.

Mamdani campaigned on addressing New York City’s housing crisis by freezing increases for rent-stabilized tenants, building 200,000 new affordable homes and expanding tenant protections. Since taking office, he has successfully frozen rents on rent-stabilized leases, released a housing plan aimed at building and preserving 400,000 affordable homes and moved to expand rental vouchers.

"Zohran Mamdani ‘froze the rent’ and served himself some taxpayer-funded cake," Red State writer Bonchie posted to X, referring to Mamdani's celebrating the rent freeze with cake earlier this summer. "Then rents hit an all-time high, vacancy rates reached the highest since COVID, and he proposed a 20% raise for himself. Incredible stuff."

Critics argue that rent freezes will lead to increased prices for everyone else and disincentivize property owners from doing more than the bare minimum to maintain units that they aren’t being paid market rate to rent.

Mamdani’s office did not respond to a request for comment when reached by Fox News Digital on Monday.

Trump administration probes UNRWA over alleged employment of 1,500 terrorists

A controversial United Nations agency is being investigated by U.S. officials for alleged ties to terrorism. The U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), the U.N. organization for Palestinian refugees, has more than 1,500 employees being probed for links to terrorism.

U.S. officials have increasingly called on U.N. member states to defund UNRWA after decades of concerns about its school materials promoting terror, the presence of Hamas tunnels beneath UNRWA schools and charges that staff members participated in the Hamas terrorist attacks of Oct. 7 against Israel.

US URGES DONORS TO ABANDON UNRWA FUNDING AS UN DEFENDS AGENCY'S MISSION

While the U.N. conducted its own UNRWA investigation in 2024 through the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) following claims that 19 UNRWA employees were part of the Oct. 7. attacks, OIOS found insufficient evidence to support the participation of 10 employees. For the remaining nine, UNRWA terminated their contracts.

As the USAID Office of the Inspector General, a law enforcement agency separate from USAID, continues to investigate 1,500 UNRWA employees, it recently announced that it had referred a total of 108 current or former UNRWA staff to the State Department for suspension or exclusion from working with organizations that receive U.S. funds. Those members were found to be involved in the Hamas invasion of southern Israel, or were members of terrorist groups.

A U.S. diplomatic official briefed by USAID OIG investigators confirmed to Fox News Digital that at least 1,500 current or former UNRWA employees are under investigation for ties to foreign terrorist organizations in Gaza.

A senior U.S. official who spoke with Fox News Digital said that the USAID OIG investigation "smartly picked up where the U.N. failed" by looking beyond Oct. 7 participation. The official said the USAID OIG investigation is "critical, as U.S. taxpayers should never fund the salaries of aid workers that are members of a foreign terrorist organization."

The senior official told Fox News Digital, "USAID OIG’s investigation is helping prevent terrorists from criss-crossing across aid organizations that have received or are seeking U.S. or Board of Peace funding."

Hamas was designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) in 1997 by the State Department, and as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist group (SDGT) in 2001.

HAMAS SAYS IT WILL DISSOLVE GAZA GOVERNMENT, BUT ISRAEL WARNS GROUP STILL SEEKS HEZBOLLAH-STYLE CONTROL

In the press release describing its effort, the USAID OIG said that individuals referred for debarment included "UNRWA school principals, teachers, security personnel, attendants, psychosocial counselors and medical professionals."

They included two deputy school principals, one of whom served as a Hamas deputy company commander and another of whom was a squad leader. USAID OIG additionally referred a teacher with "expertise as a sniper for Hamas," and one who tracked explosive device assignments. Another referred individual was a school principal assigned to a Hamas military manufacturing unit. Under his school, there were "three anti-tank positions and a tunnel shaft."

In the case of Oct. 7 involvement, the USAID OIG specifically mentioned a teacher ordered "to bring two anti-tank missiles to a prescribed location during the Oct. 7 terror attacks," and a deputy school principal charged with communications.

The USAID OIG stated that it expects to make further referrals to the State Department in addition to "potential criminal referrals to the Department of Justice."

As a result of its investigations, the State Department has banned Hafez Mousa Mohammed Mousa from any future work with U.S. government entities. An UNRWA school principal, Mousa was working with the Hamas East Jabaliya Battalion and "coordinated communications with other suspected Hamas members during the Oct. 7 attacks," the USAID OIG report explains.

In response to Fox News Digital’s questions about whether it will blacklist other identified UNRWA employees, a State Department spokesperson said that "it is no surprise that another 100 UNWRA employees were determined to be involved in the barbaric Oct. 7 attack. President Trump and Secretary Rubio have affirmed time and time again that no State Department funding will be provided to UNWRA, which has been totally infiltrated by Hamas and terrorist sympathizers."

On July 1, the Board of Peace posted on X that UNRWA "has no place in the new Gaza."

An official briefed on developments with the Board of Peace told Fox News Digital that the USAID OIG’s investigations are "quite concerning to us."

The official explained that "we can’t really have an institution operating inside of Gaza where they're purportedly delivering aid and services to two million people but also allegedly participating in and supporting terrorism. That is anathema to creating a safe and prosperous Gaza for Gazans." Moving forward without UNRWA will require being "responsible and deliberate in terms of how we transition those services over to ensure there are no gaps in critical aid delivery, whether it's health services, vaccinations, food, or other goods."

Last month, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Sen. Jim Risch (R-Idaho) posted about the infiltration of UNRWA on X, saying, "It is time for the United States to take action to address this growing problem and the systemic radicalization in UNRWA facilities." Risch said he would work with the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. "to root out the terrorist links at the U.N."

The U.S. Representative for United Nations Management and Reform, Ambassador Jeff Bartos, told a U.N. meeting in June on UNRWA funding, that it was time "to break this cycle."

"This year, you have the choice to stop underwriting an organization that has become a subsidiary of Hamas, whose employees took part in one of the most barbaric terrorist attacks in human history on Oct. 7, 2023," Bartos said. "This year, you have the choice to give the Palestinian people living in Gaza the opportunity to find durable solutions and prosper, instead of subjecting them to endless cycles of dependency and forever refugeehood."

Hamas' theft of aid is continuing to cause harm in Gaza. While not calling out Hamas by name, on Sunday, the U.N. Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory Dr. Ramiz Alakbarov released a statement strongly condemning the "obstruction of humanitarian operations in Gaza by the de facto authorities." He noted that the previous day, "armed personnel affiliated with the de facto authorities forcibly entered the Abu Rashid food distribution point in Jabalia," and additionally "entered a [World Food Programme] warehouse and reportedly assaulted two truck drivers who were delivering humanitarian supplies."

Alakbarov said the incidents "are not isolated" and "reflect an increasingly dangerous pattern of intimidation, violence and obstruction, including smuggling attempts, targeting and abusing humanitarian operations."

I have known Lindsey Graham since we campaigned together in 1994 during the Contract with America reform movement. That effort led the American people to give Republicans control of the House for the first time in 40 years.

It was an enormous shock to lose him so suddenly this week.

His closest political ally, President Donald Trump, said Sen. Graham was "one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known." He went on to say Sen. Graham was a "true American Patriot."

LINDSEY GRAHAM, SOUTH CAROLINA SENATOR WHO ROSE FROM SMALL-TOWN ROOTS TO GOP POWER BROKER, DIES AT 71

Sen. Graham had enormous spirit — and he spent equally enormous effort to get America on the right track. In the 32 years I knew him, he was always energetic, upbeat, and moving on to the next fight, reform, or opportunity to get something done.

We worked together on dozens of issues over the years, and recently were shoulder to shoulder fighting for Ukraine’s survival against Russian imperialism.

Sen. Graham was always moving forward, always on offense, and always maneuvering to help America reach its goals.

His relationship with President Trump was phenomenal. Originally, in 2015, Graham was one of then-candidate Trump’s harshest and loudest opponents. However, when Trump won, Graham set out to become a strong ally. He knew that with a leader as strong as President Trump you could be his ally and get a lot done or you could be his opponent and get frozen out of all the key decisions.

The fascinating thing was how well their love of golf brought them together. Sen. Graham had just the right personality to help the President relax when they golfed together. In a real sense, one of Sen. Graham’s greatest contributions was hanging out and helping the President renew his energy and his sense of enjoying life. And of course, they talked a lot about policy between putts.

Sen. Graham had an extraordinarily energetic commitment to national security and foreign policy. Long before President Trump appeared on the scene, Sen. Graham was one of "the three amigos," along with Sens. John McCain and Joe Lieberman. The three of them could be found in virtually every hot spot on the planet. They didn’t just talk about national security; they immersed themselves in it and studied it. All that would be of enormous help to Sen. Graham when the Russians invaded Ukraine. He became one of the leading advocates of stopping Vladimir Putin.

Long time Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad captured their impact in a recent tweet. He said, "I remember Senator Graham especially after 9/11 as part of a trio: McCain, Lieberman, and Graham. They were a great unique package, a bipartisan powerhouse who loved America, its servicemen and women, and its national security including its role of global leadership. They helped unify America and reflected that unity. A special era. I saw that up-close and personal during their frequent visits to Iraq and Afghanistan when I served in both countries. Lindsey, you served America with honor and distinction. You, Senators McCain and Lieberman, will also have an honored place in US history."

Finally, I can’t write about Sen. Graham without reaching back to his first speech on the House floor. It was the first day of the new Republican Congress. Many freshman might have been a little intimidated by addressing the House on that historic day, but not Sen. Graham. Here is his very first contribution as an elected official:

"Mr. Speaker, I came from South Carolina, a State that a few years ago sent about 18 people to jail because they took shirts, they took shoes, they took golf trips, and they sold their vote. If Members want to reform me, I challenge them to do so. But everything in its time. For 40 years Democrats have had control of this body to do that.

"What the American people need to know, and what I want constituents to know at home is what we are talking about doing the first day is to change the way this institution operates.

"Newt Gingrich, the new Speaker of the House, has done something that no Speaker of the House has ever done in this body, Republican or Democrat. He has instituted a measure to limit his own term as Speaker. I congratulate him for doing that. Leadership and reform begins at the top, and that is what he has demonstrated, and on behalf of the freshman class we thank him for doing something other than talk.

"Also in this rule is a provision that would limit committee chairmen to serve six years. If we want to change America, that is a great place to start, and that is what we are talking about today, changing this institution to breathe new life into it.

Comedian Margaret Cho mocks Lindsey Graham's death, suggests Trump is next in viral video

Comedian Margaret Cho is facing backlash after a video circulating on social media Sunday showed her mocking the death of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and appearing to suggest that President Donald Trump could be next.

"Bye Lindsey… Bye Lindsey Graham. From the closet to the coffin, real seamless. Real seamless," Cho said in a video posted on Facebook.

Cho continued her rant, appearing to suggest that Trump might be the next to die, and including the hashtags, "#resist" and "#fdt" in her post, among others.

Graham, 71, passed away at 10:23 p.m. Saturday. An autopsy was done on Sunday suggesting that Graham passed away from aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

A statement from Graham’s office read, "The death certificate will be PENDING until all the toxicological and microscopic testing are finalized, and at that point the death certificate will be updated to reflect the cause of death and appropriately classify the manner of death."

McConnell, who has been hospitalized for almost a month, said in a statement Sunday that he has been recovering from a fall.

Cowboys legend Michael Irvin wins over booing Eagles fans at Philly bar ahead of Home Run Derby

Nearly 27 years ago, Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin laid motionless on the concrete jungle surface of Veterans Stadium for the last time. He was wheeled off on a stretcher to the cheers of Eagles fans who watched as the rival, who had dominated them for well over a decade, left with a spinal cord injury.

Irvin's football career was over.

On Sunday, Irvin was back in Philly and wearing his jersey in a local watering hole with not a care in the world that fans booed him. It's good for business. The Playmaker is back in the City of Brotherly Love not as a villain, but as a guest podcaster/influencer for tonight's MLB All-Star Game Home Run Derby.

Is Irvin an odd choice for a baseball event? Of course, but if you're going to intentionally fire up Philly fans, Irvin is a smart foil. He wants the heat.

"It was a compliment for Philly to cheer me," the Playmaker said years later of the Eagles fans who cheered after he was carted off in 1999. "Philly wasn't cheering my injury. They were cheering my departure," he added. "Thank God he's leaving the field, he's been killing us. Thank God, maybe now we have a chance to win. You've never heard me say one negative thing about the Philadelphia crowd."

Irvin, 60, carried that same mentality into McGillins Olde Ale House in Center City Philly.

"Eagles fans know tough when they see it," one fan wrote on Instagram of the Pro Football Hall of Famer walking in and taking it.

"I love it. As a 45 yr old Philadelphian through and through. I love seeing this 2nd act of Michael Irving. Continue to inspire. Even though you heard boos, I know you could feel the respect and love," wrote another fan.

Yet, at the end of the day, these fans were literally cheering when it looked possible that Irvin had suffered a possible life-changing injury during that 1999 season. Through it all, Irvin hasn't dwelled on the actions of Eagles fans.

"I remember my dad, and a lot of those fans are just like my dad," Irvin recalled in 2013. "It’s the only place and the only time their opinion counts, the only way they can voice their disappointment, and I can’t have a problem with that."

And, now, it appears the feelings are mutual. We've all lived long enough for Eagles fans to find a soft spot for one of their hated enemies.

NY Times columnist Kristof says no plans to seek office again amid disclosure issues, queries on unused funds

Liberal New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof insists he has "zero plans" to seek elected office again in the wake of criticism for failing to disclose he was covering people who donated to his campaign for governor of Oregon in 2021 and questions about unused campaign funds.

Kristof, who briefly left the Times in 2021 to run for governor of Oregon as a Democrat, returned to the newspaper in 2022 after he was deemed ineligible because of the state’s three-year residency requirement. Times journalists are prohibited from political activity, including fundraising or campaigning for officials seeking election, but Kristof was sitting on an unused pile of cash after thriving in the fundraising department during his short-lived bid for office.

The Times told Fox News Digital last month that it was reviewing Kristof’s work after Semafor reported that he failed to disclose that subjects of his columns previously donated to his political campaign. When asked for an update on the internal probe into Kristof’s past work, a New York Times spokesperson provided the links to nine different columns that now feature an editors' note.

A Times spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the internal review regarding disclosure is now complete.

"The only independent press ethics expert who has looked at my conduct related to campaign donations has confirmed that everything was ethical," Kristof told Fox News Digital.

Meanwhile, Kristof transferred roughly $1 million that remained in his campaign war chest into a new political action committee named Oregon Strong, run by his wife Sheryl WuDunn, in 2022 as he was set to return to the Times.

"In other words, nearly half the money Kristof raised for his political bid remains under family control," Rolling Stone wrote in August 2022.

Kristof told Rolling Stone that it would use the cash to fund job training programs in Oregon. He also said that Oregon Strong would be "nonpolitical," despite promising to support then-Democratic Gov. Kate Brown's job-creation program.

Four years after the Rolling Stone piece, Oregon Strong has not contributed to any jobs program, according to the Oregon Secretary of State’s public transaction page.

Since Oregon Strong received a deposit of $992,031 from Kristof’s campaign on Aug. 3, 2022, the only significant expenditures have been a $100,000 donation to Vision to Learn in 2023 and a $2,000 donation to A Progressive Voice for Oregon in 2024.

The only other withdrawals from Oregon Strong are miscellaneous expenditures of less than $100 apiece and a $125 payment to Meadowlark Bookkeeping, according to the Oregon Secretary of State. There has been zero activity since 2024.

The remaining cash, nearly $890,000, appears to be sitting untouched in the Oregon Strong PAC controlled by Kristof’s wife. The significant balance and contributions to progressive political causes have raised eyebrows among political watchdogs, who questioned whether Kristof will run for office again in the future and how this affects his role at the Times.

Political insiders feel the pattern of behavior provides a clear path for him to run again, and with money from donors he has written about, as long as he maintains his Oregon residency.

When reached for comment, Kristof distanced himself from the PAC run by his wife, criticizing media outlets for asking questions and suggesting it's "a bad-faith effort to discredit investigative journalism."

"You should know that I haven't been involved in Oregon Strong since 2022 and in fact was unaware of the donation you mentioned in 2024," Kristof told Fox News Digital.

NEW YORK TIMES DEFENDS CONTROVERSIAL ANTI-ISRAEL PIECE, 'NO TRUTH' TO RETRACTION CLAIMS

Kristof recently penned a controversial piece featuring men and women alleging "brutal sexual abuse at the hands of Israel’s prison guards, soldiers, settlers and interrogators." Critics blasted the May opinion column as "propaganda" and poked holes in the reporting, specifically a claim that dogs have been trained to sexually assault Palestinians. The Israeli government has even promised legal action, but Kristof feels any criticism he faces is a direct result of the backlash.

"This issue has been raised only to attack me for an article I wrote recently about Palestinians being raped in Israeli prisons," Kristof told Fox News Digital. "I have zero plans to ever seek elective office."

At least one critic of Kristof isn’t thrilled with his behavior.

"The fact pattern makes clear that Nick Kristof used his column to generate PR for his political donors, without disclosing it," a senior Republican political operative told Fox News Digital.

"Now it's clear he's keeping these donors’ money in violation of his and the New York Times pledge," the GOP operative added. "The Times clearly has a serious ethics issue on its hands."

Among the conflicts raised by Semafor were a pair of columns, published in 2025 and 2026, that featured Vision to Learn, the organization that received $100,000 from Oregon Strong.

The pieces are among the nine that were quietly slapped with editors' notes and now say, "This column failed to disclose that Larry Gilson, the chairman of Focusing Philanthropy, donated to Nicholas Kristof’s campaign for governor of Oregon in 2021."

The New York Times Ethical Journalism Handbook prohibits staff members from doing anything "that might raise questions about their journalistic fairness and independence," including campaigning for a candidate, endorsing a candidate or pushing efforts to enact legislation. They are also prohibited from marching or rallying in support of any political movement, and giving money to, or soliciting money for, any political candidate or election cause.

The ethics handbook added, "Staff members must be sensitive that political activity by their spouses, family or companions may create conflicts of interest or the appearance of conflict."

The judging was part of the International Taste Institute's (ITI) Superior Taste Awards, which are "widely regarded in the food and beverage industry as the most prestigious taste certification worldwide," according to the ITI.

This year, dozens of coffees from around the world — ranging from whole-bean coffees, ground coffee, instant coffee, capsules/pods and decaf products — earned Superior Taste Awards.

Jury members perform the tasting process blind and in complete silence. They know nothing about the items being tasted ahead of time, except for their category, according to the awards criteria.

The food and drinks contain no identifying markers. The panel judges them on five criteria: first impression, vision, olfaction, taste and texture (for food) or final sensation (for drinks).

The judges award products achieving an overall score above 70% with the Superior Taste Award, "a stamp of indisputable quality and prestige," according to the ITI. Products are further evaluated with ratings of one, two or three stars.

Nineteen coffees won three-star designations. Among those, some are available for purchase in the U.S. through specialty coffee retailers and online through importers, and a couple are more widely distributed.

Two Lavazza brand coffees, available in America, earned three stars: La Reserva de ¡Tierra! Colombia and Tales of Italy Canal Grande.

La Reserva de ¡Tierra! Colombia is "a full-bodied and balanced blend, with aromatic notes of tropical fruits, lime zest and jasmine," according to retailer Italy Best Coffee.

"This 100% Arabica blend is sourced from Colombia. This blend is ideal for espresso preparation."

Tales of Italy Canal Grande contains a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans with notes of chocolate and scores 8 out of 10 on the intensity scale, according to Walmart.com, which imports the coffee from Great Britain.

In total, five whole-bean coffees from Italy earned three-star recognition, along with three from Spain and one each from South Korea, the United Kingdom, Germany, Turkey, Japan and Taiwan.

The only ground coffee to receive a three-star Superior Taste Award was Café San Alberto by Café San Alberto of Colombia.

Costa Coffee Professional, all from the United Kingdom, earned three three-star awards in the coffee pod/capsule category for Signature Medium Decaf, Podio Capsule, Signature Medium Roast, Podio Capsule and Colombian Character Roast, Podio Capsule.

The only instant coffee to receive a three-star award was Oriental Kopi Classic White Coffee by Oriental Coffee International of Malaysia.

One-star products scoring between 70% and 80% are considered good products with high taste quality within their category, according to the ITI's website.

It has been a while without betting on the WNBA, but it is always there, floating around in the background. I know most people don't follow it, but I do watch quite a bit of it. I also follow the games that I don't watch, not only for betting purposes, but I also do actually like the games. Sure, some games are hard to watch, but when you get solid teams, the games are usually fun. Tonight is a fairly evenly matched game as the Sparks take on the Dream.

The Los Angeles Sparks are floundering around that midway mark. We are about halfway through the season as well, so this may be indicative of what the team really is. For the year, the Sparks are 10-11, and they are 5-4 on the road this year. Part of the issue may be that their leader, star scorer, and point guard, Kelsey Plum, has only played in 12 of 21 games. She is out for this game as well. Cameron Brink, who has only played 14 games, is also out for this one.

That does give other players a chance to step up, and I feel like they've done a decent job of that. Nneka Ogwumike is filling in as much as possible on offense, putting up 16.9 points per game. Dearica Hamby is also scoring almost 15 points per game. The Sparks went from a guard-oriented team to a forward-focused team.

The Atlanta Dream have undergone a remake over the past two seasons. Two years ago, they ended the season at 15-25. Last year, they went 30-14 with Britney Griner, Rhyne Howard, and Allisha Gray leading the way. They combined to score roughly 46 points per game, and Brionna Jones even added another 13 points. This season has shown a bit of regression, but part of that is because they have lost Griner (to free agency) and Jones (to injury).

Replacing them is Angel Reese, who is doing a good job of still averaging a double-double, but she is still just one player trying to fill the stats of two. She takes a lot of abuse for her play, but I will always defend that she has a high motor and is always trying. Fundamentally, she isn't overly skilled, and she needs to work on it, but she does have value. Reese is also not certain to be in this game.

The Sparks, led mostly by a frontcourt, will have a tough time trying to deal with the combination of Gray and Howard in the backcourt. Both of those players are averaging 18 points per game. Without Kelsey Plum to make them work on defense, I think this should be a game where they are fresh and have plenty of good looks at the basket. I think both score 20 points or more in this one. That parlay (which isn't a good idea) pays at +188.

The Sparks have won their past two games, but I think this will be a tough one for them to steal from the Dream. 8.5 points is a lot to ask the Dream to cover, considering they've lost four of their past five games. I'll take the under. It has been bet up since it opened at 177.5, but I think we are getting too high. The Sparks should be scoring more twos on the inside, especially if Reese is out. The Dream should win this game something like 89-82.

Tesla Robotaxi Miami launch comes with limits

Tesla's robotaxi dream has rolled into Miami. That sounds like a big moment, especially if you have ever sat in South Florida traffic and wondered whether a car could do better without a tired human behind the wheel.

For now, though, the rollout looks careful and limited. Tesla says Robotaxi service is available in limited areas of Miami, Florida as well as Austin, Dallas and Houston, Texas. The Robotaxi app also shows a visual map of where rides are available based on your location.

That means Miami is now Tesla's newest robotaxi market, but this is not a citywide launch yet. It also puts Tesla in a busy autonomous ride-hailing market where Waymo and Amazon's Zoox are already trying to win over riders.

Why the Tesla Robotaxi Miami service area is limited

The biggest thing to know is that Tesla Robotaxi does not cover all of Miami. Tesla's Miami geofence covers only a small slice of the metro area, mostly around West Miami and a strip toward Doral and Sweetwater. The early map leaves out downtown Miami, Miami Beach, Miami International Airport and most of Miami-Dade.

So, even though "Miami" is in the headline, your actual ride options depend on where you stand and where you want to go. If you are trying to get from Miami Beach to Brickell after dinner, Tesla Robotaxi may not help you yet. If you are inside the service zone, the app should show what is available before you book.

That limited map also tells you something about the challenge ahead. Miami is not an easy place to prove out robotaxis. Traffic moves fast, rain can hit hard and drivers do not always behave the way software might expect.

Tesla has been building toward this moment for years. CyberGuy previously covered how the Tesla Cybercab removes the steering wheel entirely, which shows how far Tesla wants to take autonomous transportation. For now, though, the Miami rollout still uses Model Y vehicles. That makes this launch another step in Tesla's longer robotaxi push.

Tesla Robotaxi expansion is moving city by city

Tesla's robotaxi rollout is still happening in careful stages. Austin came first, followed by Dallas and Houston. Miami now marks Tesla's first Robotaxi market outside Texas.

CyberGuy previously reported that Tesla cleared Nevada streets for robotaxi testing, which showed the company was preparing for more markets before opening the app to more riders. Tesla has also named other planned cities, including Orlando, Tampa and Phoenix.

Tesla Robotaxi faces Waymo and Zoox in Miami

Tesla is not entering an empty market. Waymo and Amazon's Zoox are also accelerating their autonomous vehicle efforts. CyberGuy recently covered how Waymo's cheaper robotaxi tech could help driverless rides reach more cities faster. Zoox is also a major name to watch in this race. CyberGuy reported that Amazon's Zoox updated its steering-wheel-free robotaxi with more rider comfort, larger cupholders and a calmer cabin design.

That competition puts pressure on Tesla. Tesla has the brand recognition and a massive base of vehicles on the road. Waymo has more experience with public driverless rides. Zoox is betting on a vehicle built from the ground up for autonomy. For you, that competition could lead to better service over time. More companies fighting for rides may mean wider coverage, better pickup spots and faster improvements.

Tesla Robotaxi safety questions remain

The safety questions are not going away anytime soon. According to a recent review of federal crash data filed with NHTSA, Tesla's autonomous driving reports included 17 crash narratives tied to the Robotaxi program. That does not mean every reported crash points to a system failure. Still, riders should not ignore the data either.

Autonomous vehicles have to earn trust in everyday driving moments. A rough pickup, confusing stop or strange turn can make you nervous fast. CyberGuy has covered similar safety concerns across the robotaxi space, including a Waymo recall over construction-zone risk. That recall showed how work zones can challenge autonomous systems when signs, cones and lanes change quickly.

Tesla also faces broader scrutiny around Full Self-Driving behavior. CyberGuy previously reported on Tesla's Mad Max mode in Full Self-Driving, which brought fresh debate over speed, supervision and driver-assist safety.

How to take a Tesla Robotaxi in Miami

To take a Tesla Robotaxi in Miami, you start in the Robotaxi app. Tesla says you need a mobile device to request a ride, and the ride can only be booked for you. Before you confirm, check the service area in the app. Do not assume Robotaxi covers the full city. A ride may work in one part of Miami and fail if your pickup or drop-off sits outside the current zone.

The app shows a price estimate before you confirm. During the ride, you can adjust things like climate, seat position and media through the app or the car's touchscreen.

Also, keep your phone charged. That phone becomes a key part of booking, managing and finishing the ride.

Finally, pay attention during the trip. You may not be driving, but you should still stay aware of where the car stops and how it handles the ride.

Lake Tahoe squatter suspect caught on surveillance in rich-and-famous mountain retreat

A Nevada homeowner returned from a three-week vacation to find someone had apparently been squatting inside his Lake Tahoe home, eating his food, wearing his clothes and leaving behind clues that investigators hope will help identify a person of interest.

The homeowner reported the discovery to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office on June 5 after returning home.

Investigators said evidence inside the residence indicated someone had been staying there while the owner was away, and the homeowner also reported his birth certificate was missing.

During the investigation, deputies recovered a wallet containing a Visa debit card issued to Clarence Zillman, along with a Safeway receipt for the purchase of two packs of Camel cigarettes.

Investigators later obtained surveillance video from the Safeway at the Round Hill Shopping Center showing the individual who made the purchase associated with the recovered receipt.

According to the sheriff's office, the person captured in the surveillance image was wearing a shirt and hat the homeowner identified as his own. Deputies later recovered the shirt inside the residence, though the hat remains missing.

"What we're seeing now isn't always someone just moving into an empty house," Castillo said. "In some cases, there are forged documents, identity theft or organized fraud that complicate these investigations."

Douglas County investigators have not alleged identity theft or document fraud in this case, though the homeowner reported that his birth certificate was missing. Authorities have not said whether they believe the document was taken for any particular purpose.

Colorado firefighting pilot killed when plane crashes into reservoir

A pilot helping battle a raging Colorado wildfire was found dead after the firefighting aircraft crashed into a mountain reservoir Sunday evening, authorities said.

The Montrose County Sheriff's Office Dive Team has recovered the pilot's body from Silver Jack Reservoir, Gunnison County Sheriff Adam Murdie said in a statement. The body will be taken to the Gunnison County Coroner's Office.

The pilot's name has not been released while authorities notify family members.

PILOT DECLARES MAYDAY BEFORE SEAPLANE COMES DOWN IN NEW YORK CITY’S EAST RIVER

The crash was reported at about 5:17 p.m. Sunday after the Gunnison Regional Communications Center received a call about an aircraft down in Silver Jack Reservoir in the southwestern corner of Gunnison County.

Sheriff's officials said the aircraft was assigned to the Gold Mountain Fire, which has been burning in southwestern Colorado. Early information indicated the pilot was the only person on board.

Investigators have not said what caused the aircraft to crash. Deputies, investigators and the Montrose County Sheriff's Office dive team responded to the scene.

Trump wants South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster to tap Graham’s sister, Darline Graham Nordone, to be appointed to the lawmaker’s suddenly open seat for the remainder of his term.

"I recommended, to Governor Henry McMaster, Lindsey Graham’s wonderful sister, Darline, to serve as interim Senator from the Great State of South Carolina," Trump said on Truth Social on Monday. "This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!"

Graham and his younger sister, Darline, had a unique bond, given that, after their parents died, the lawmaker legally adopted and raised her.

Trump’s announcement comes as a scramble behind the scenes is taking place to fill Graham’s spot, and further, find a new GOP nominee to run in November to keep his seat in the hands of Republicans.

McMaster is expected to announce his pick for the seat at 4 p.m. on Monday. He has so far kept quiet about who he would prefer. Fox News Digital did not immediately hear back from McMaster’s office on who he is eyeing in the interim.

Meanwhile, a key Republican, Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., also wants to see Graham's sister get the nod for his seat.

"Lindsey Graham’s sister, Darline Graham Nordone, would be a fantastic pick to serve out the remainder of the Senate term," Scott said on X. "After speaking with Darline, there is no one better who understands Lindsey’s love for family, our state, and our country."

Scott, earlier in the day, floated both former Rep. Trey Gowdy and former Sen. Jim DeMint as possible replacements in the interim. He hoped that McMaster would "put a placeholder and let the voters decide" later during a forthcoming special election.

"I think in the next several hours or next day or so we'll figure out who that person is," Scott said. "I love Trey Gowdy and Jim DeMint has been in the conversation."

"[Graham’s] sister would be a wonderful placeholder as well," he continued. "So we've got lots of candidates who could hold the place so that the voters decide. And remember the election starts August the 11th in South Carolina, three weeks from now, we'll have a primary process."

There are still WNBA games, there is the All-Star Game, and there is tonight's Home Run Derby. Plus, we can start looking at the NFL season, which starts just about two months from now. Let's get to how we can bet on tonight's Home Run Derby and where we can make some cash.

The Rules

This year the MLB is doing something different. Not only will the Derby be on Netflix, but to keep things moving, the most homers anyone can hit in a round is 20 (kind of). That's because they only get 20 swings in Round 1, and 15 in Round 2 and the Final round. If you homer on your last swing, you go until you don't hit a homer. It should speed things up a bit.

Kyle Schwarber, 32 homers

Schwarber is a masher and currently leads the league in home runs. Schwarber has a lot of reasons to like him tonight. He has competed in the Derby before, and he is playing in his home stadium. Honestly, he is one of my favorite players of all time, so it is hard for me to get over my bias, but you could do worse than betting on him at +300 to win. However, I do have some concerns he can't get going right away.

Junior Caminero, 28 homers

This man finished second in the Derby last year and looks to try and get the crown this year. He has power to spare, but I feel like if anyone will swing and miss in this contest, it is Caminero. He is at +425, but I won't put money on him as I prefer people who are more familiar with the ballpark.

Munetaka Murakami, 20 homers

He certainly has pop and is part of the reason the White Sox are successful this year, but he is also coming back from injury. I would stay away from him. For the record, he has competed in Japanese derbies in the past, but never won.

Jac Caglianone, 15 homers

He's a youngster, so he might have the energy for the contest, but I think his odds should be higher. He is +700 in the contest and has just 15 homers this season. I also don't think he will be overly familiar with the batter's eye here, so it might be a struggle at first. I'm not touching him.

Jordan Walker, 22 homers

I think this is my favorite underdog in the tournament. His metrics show that he is hitting the ball hard when he makes contact, and with 20 swings, he may have all the energy needed to consistently hit with pop. He is in this for the first time, but I think that matters more when you're on a time limit instead of swings. He could be looking to make a name for himself. Give me a small share of Walker at +800.

Bryce Harper, 20 homers

A former winner: check. Playing in his home ballpark: check. A guy who has pop: check. A dude who loves big moments: double-check. I'm quite surprised Harper isn't at worse odds. He is my official pick to win it, and I'll put a full bet on him at +800. (Note: this is an exhibition thing, so a "full bet" is never the amount of a normal game for me.)

Ben Rice, 29 homers

This guy is having a great season and can certainly find his fair share of balls going over the fence. I really don't have a great justification for not picking Rice. You can make the same case for him as Jordan Walker, but I just don't prefer him. Not great analysis, just the truth.

Willson Contreras, 20 homers

No one in this field has had a more interesting season than Contreras. This will be his first Home Run Derby, and I do tend to shy away from new guys a bit. However, as mentioned, this new format should be fine for him. He may be doing this for Venezuela or to get people to see something positive about him after some craziness over the past few weeks. At +1400 he is more of a line drive hitter, but he can blast homers, so he is the hardest person for me to handicap here.

Give me Harper to win at +800, and I'll take another half of a unit and split it on Walker and Contreras. I also like Harper to make the Semi-Finals at -115.

Far-left streamer Hasan Piker calls Lindsey Graham 'bloodthirsty odious monster'

Far-left streamer Hasan Piker called the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., "bloodthirsty," among other names, in a video posted to his YouTube channel on Sunday, after the senator died on Saturday of a brief and sudden illness.

"We like to take a look at the true worth of a man. We like to take a look at what these members of Congress have actually done. Not the way that they cover it in mainstream media, but instead, the way of what their impact is and the way it should be covered. I'll start off by saying Lindsey Graham, in a long list of demonic entities, was exceptionally bloodthirsty. A bloodthirsty odious monster who loved war. There was never a war that Lindsey Graham did not fall in love with," he said.

Graham, 71, passed away on Saturday after suffering from an "Aortic Dissection due to Arteriosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease," according to the medical examiner's report. The medical examiner emphasized that the findings are not final and that Graham's death certificate will remain pending while toxicological and microscopic testing is completed.

"Lindsey Graham is pro-life and yet Lindsey Graham has died. Piker was among several political commentators to jump on Graham after his death. Piker initially mocked a post on social media honoring Graham's relationship with Israel, by commenting, "lmao."

"The Young Turks" co-host and executive producer Ana Kasparian responded on X to the announcement of Graham's death with two words.

"Good riddance," Kasparian said.

Far-right political commentator Nick Fuentes also posted the same response online.

"Lindsey Graham has moved on to the next step in his journey, trying to convince Hades to attack Zeus and Poseidon," Uygur said. "He says it’ll only take a couple of weeks and won’t require any ground troops. And there’s no way Poseidon can close the Strait."

Former MSNBC analyst and Lincoln Project co-founder Steve Schmidt called Graham a "lonely and unprincipled man who betrayed his country for power and his decency for attention" in a Substack post on Sunday.

Graham also received several tributes praising his work from his allies in the government, including President Donald Trump.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that Graham "was always working," and called the Palmetto State senator "a true American Patriot."

WV town's police department thrown into chaos by evidence room fiasco, but officials say no one was fired

Officials in one West Virginia town are pushing back on claims from its own police department that every single person in the agency was fired, saying the entire department is now under an internal review after allegations of a break-in in its evidence room.

In a July 7 Facebook post, the Barrackville Police Department wrote that the entire department was fired by city officials.

"Effective immediately, the entire Barrackville Police Department has been relieved of duty by the Mayor and City Council," the department wrote. "We are sincerely grateful for the support, trust, and encouragement shown to us by the Barrackville community throughout our service. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve and protect this town."

WEST VIRGINIA TOWN FIRES ENTIRE POLICE FORCE AFTER CHIEF RESIGNS, SERGEANT ALLEGES EVIDENCE ROOM BREAK-IN

The announcement came after then-Barrackville Police Chief Zachary Freeburn resigned "effective immediately."

However, in a statement to Fox News Digital, Barrackville's general counsel, John Funkhouser, said the police department's claim of a mass firing is "entirely inaccurate." He said two officers were placed on temporary leave pending an internal investigation into an alleged break-in at the department's evidence room.

Funkhouser said then-Chief Freeburn told council member Alex Neville on July 1 that the department's evidence locker was cleaned out under an order from the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, leaving firearms confiscated years ago along with $30 in abandoned cash. Due to an alleged lack of "proper records and other documentation," Straight placed Hunt and officer Ethan Darden on temporary inactive status to give the town's council "time to review all pertinent information regarding the operation of the Barrackville Police Department."

Straight raised concerns on July 6 that unauthorized individuals could remotely access surveillance cameras at the police department, which included those housed in the evidence room. When several council members entered the evidence room, they found "a list of safe combinations on a desk and used one to open the safe, which turned up nothing."

One police cruiser was also found unlocked by the council members, along with another one that had an "unsecured rifle" inside. The officers were placed on leave the following day.

The Town of Barrackville is committed to transparency, accountability and the safety of its residents," Funkhouser said in a statement.

Hunt's account to WBOY differs from the town's version of events, telling the outlet that he discovered the evidence room had been entered by someone else when he got to work on July 7.

Former Navy SEAL Matt Bissonnette pulled back the curtain on the mission to get Osama bin Laden.

The al-Qaeda leader was killed in May 2011 in a daring special operations raid conducted by members of SEAL Team 6 flown into Pakistan by the 160th SOAR.

The raid delivered justice for the victims of 9/11 and all the men and women who deployed to war in the aftermath of that tragic day.

The full details of the raid have never been made public, and much of it remains in the shadows, despite many different narratives in the public.

Bissonnette spoke with podcaster and former DEVGRU member Andy Stumpf in an interview released on Monday, and touched on many topics.

One of the most interesting moments was when he disputed the idea bin Laden's face was completely blown apart.

"The photos, if they ever got released, I don't know, I think that would help clear some stuff up. I think you'd also see very quickly it's high forehead shots. His face is not all f***ed up. You can very clearly see his bridge of his nose, whole face, mouth, mouth structure. Easily identifiable. The idea that there were extra shots or any of this that his face was distorted. Release the photos. High forehead shots," Bissonnette told Stumpf during the interview.

In Bissonnette's recollection of events, the unnamed pointman, often referred to as Red, fired at the terrorist leader when he popped his head out a doorway and then followed his shots to the doorway of bin Laden's bedroom before entering.

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham served in Congress for more than three decades, but public disclosure estimates show he died with a modest net worth compared to many of his longtime Washington colleagues.

The senator died with a net worth of about $1.4 million, with congressional disclosures from May showing a lower-end estimate of just over $600,000 and an upper estimate of a little more than $2.2 million, according to financial disclosures he filed in May. Despite serving in Congress for 31 years, Graham ranked at 294th in wealth among the 535 voting members of Congress, according to data from the Quiver Quantitative.

Graham died at age 71, meaning that his net worth at the end was relatively normal. Individuals between the ages of 65 and 74 have an average net worth of $1.79 million and a median net worth of $409,900, according to Fidelity.

An Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation staff attorney is under scrutiny after a viral video of her declaring she would refuse to comply with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and urging Americans to make agents' lives "miserable," prompting a state review and a sharp response from the Department of Homeland Security.

"Conservatives really think they’re doing something when they say, ‘Just comply’ when it comes to ICE and United States citizens," Shannon (Hoyle) Desherow said in a TikTok video reshared by Libs of TikTok last week on X.

On her LinkedIn page, Desherow says she currently works for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation as assistant general counsel. Her TikTok page has been set on private.

"And it just shows that they really just f---ing chirp with no understanding of what they’re talking about, because why the f--- would I comply with someone who has no jurisdiction over me," she asked in the video.

Desherow continued, "ICE has no authority and no jurisdiction over U.S. citizens. So why the f--- would I comply with an order given to me at gunpoint by somebody who has no f---ing authority to make that order? I’m not going to. That’s the f---ing thing."

Desherow, who, according to her LinkedIn, graduated in December 2016 from the University of Central Oklahoma and then received her law degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 2020, continued on her rant.

"And an ICE warrant, by the way, 99% of the time, is an administrative warrant. It’s not good enough for the f---ing Fourth Amendment," Desherow said. "It doesn’t give you access to my house, it doesn’t give you access to my car, and it certainly doesn’t give you access to f---ing arrest me. I was born here, and I’m going to make it an ICE agent’s problem. I don’t have to f---ing comply with ICE, because I was born here. And every citizen needs to have that f---ing mindset. We need to make their lives f---ing miserable, and that’s exactly what we should be doing."

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security told Fox News Digital, "Reminder: Obstruction of law enforcement is a federal crime and a felony. The First Amendment protects speech and peaceful assembly – not rioting."

The spokesperson added, "DHS is taking reasonable and constitutional measures to uphold the rule of law and protect our officers. ICE officers are facing a nearly 1000% increase in assaults against them as they put their lives on the line to arrest murderers, rapists, and gang members."

In a statement to Fox News Digital, a spokesperson for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said it has "been made aware of the post and are looking into it."

The video caught the attention of the Oklahoma Attorney General's Office, which suggested she should resign.

Her comments attacking the credibility and mission of ICE do not reflect the values of Oklahomans or the views of the law enforcement professionals who work every day with our federal partners to keep our communities safe.

"Anyone in Oklahoma law enforcement who feels so passionately against our federal partners should resign. Homeland Security, FBI, DEA and ICE are critical allies to Oklahoma and my office as we combat organized crime. An attack against one of them is an attack on the entire system that protects our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness."

UK pins string of antisemitic attacks on Iran-linked group, bans IRGC

The United Kingdom on Monday blamed an Iran-linked proxy group for a string of antisemitic arson attacks targeting British Jewish sites, prompting the government to ban Tehran's powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and impose sweeping new powers to crack down on foreign-backed sabotage.

British officials said the Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right (IMCR) publicly claimed responsibility for seven attacks this year targeting Jewish and Israeli-linked locations, as well as a Persian-language media outlet critical of Iran's government. According to the U.K. government, members of the IRGC's elite Qods Force were "almost certainly" directing the group's operations across Europe.

The attacks included fires at synagogues, Jewish charity ambulances and other Jewish community sites in London. No injuries were reported.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the new measures send a clear message to foreign adversaries seeking to sow violence.

"We will never let Britain be a playground for states who want to spread fear, division and violence on our streets," Starmer said. "Anyone acting on behalf of those who threaten our national security should be in no doubt that there is no place for you in Britain."

If Parliament approves the designations later this week, anyone carrying out acts of sabotage — including arson — on behalf of the IRGC, IMCR or Russia's GRU Volunteer Corps could face life imprisonment. Supporting or assisting the groups could carry prison sentences of up to 14 years.

The British government said the new authorities, created under the National Security (State Threats) Act 2026, will make it easier for prosecutors to secure convictions because they will no longer have to prove a direct foreign government connection in every case.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood accused both Tehran and Moscow of relying on criminal proxies to conduct hostile operations inside the United Kingdom.

"Iran and Russia are using proxies and thugs to do their dirty work on our shores," Mahmood said. "I have rapidly designated three groups so those working for them will be tracked down and put behind bars."

ISRAEL FORTIFIES BORDER WITH JORDAN AS IRAN SEEKS NEW TERROR PATH

The government said IMCR emerged online earlier this year and has also claimed responsibility for attacks on synagogues in Belgium and the Netherlands. British intelligence officials say Iran-backed proxy groups have increasingly recruited members of criminal organizations to carry out sabotage, intimidation and physical attacks across Europe, often targeting Jewish communities and Iranian dissidents.

According to the U.K., MI5 identified at least 20 potentially lethal Iran-backed plots against individuals in Britain over the past year. The government has already sanctioned more than 550 Iranian-linked individuals and entities and has pledged £250 million ($334,662,500) over three years to strengthen security for Jewish communities, including increased protection for synagogues, schools and community centers.

Britain also designated Russia's GRU Volunteer Corps, saying the group acts as a proxy for Russian military intelligence by recruiting individuals online to conduct sabotage, arson and other hostile operations.

The crackdown comes just weeks after two Romanian men were sentenced to prison for stabbing a journalist working for a Persian-language television station in London, an attack a British judge said was carried out on behalf of the Iranian state.

Two years after a gunman opened fire on Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the security failures that nearly cost him his life remain under scrutiny as later alleged plots and reported threats keep presidential protection in the spotlight.

Trump was rushed offstage by Secret Service agents after gunfire grazed his upper right ear during his July 13, 2024, rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The attack came months before Trump’s re-election and preceded a series of later alleged attempts and reported threats against his life.

Two years ago Monday, Trump was mid-sentence, pointing to a chart on illegal immigration under the Biden administration, when gunshots pierced the air at his Butler rally. Authorities identified the gunman as Thomas Matthew Crooks, who fired from the roof of a nearby building.

The gunman killed firefighter Corey Comperatore, who was shielding his family, and wounded two other men. A Secret Service sniper killed Crooks during the attack.

A report from the Office of Inspector General, released earlier this month, found that the U.S. Secret Service "missed multiple opportunities" to prevent or disrupt the assassination attempt due to communication failures and other security lapses.

"The Secret Service’s overall lack of policy and processes coupled with limited intelligence sharing and poor collaboration and communication with protectee staff and state and local law enforcement set the conditions that led to missing opportunities to prevent and detect the attempted assassination," the report said.

It also found failure to warn Trump's protective detail that Crooks had a rangefinder and a long gun and had climbed onto the roof of a nearby building.

Trump’s security has remained under scrutiny since he returned to office, amid later alleged assassination attempts and reported threats against his life.

In September 2024, authorities said Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested after a Secret Service agent spotted him with a rifle near Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, in what federal prosecutors later charged as an attempted assassination of Trump.

In April of this year, there was an assassination attempt against Trump at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, where a shooter attempted to break into the ballroom.

The renewed threats come amid escalating tensions with Iran, after the U.S. resumed strikes following the collapse of a ceasefire agreement. Reports this week said Israeli intelligence warned U.S. officials about a new Iranian plot to assassinate Trump.

Trump warned Iran Friday that the United States would "decimate and destroy" the country if Tehran carried out an assassination attempt against him.

Charlie Kirk's close friend calls for death penalty for convicted assassins

PROVO, Utah — Charlie Kirk's close friend Jack Posobiec called Friday for convicted assassins to face the death penalty after spending five days in a Utah courtroom watching prosecutors present what he described as "an avalanche of evidence" against the man accused of murdering the Turning Point USA founder last year.

"I think the death penalty should be sought for any assassin," Posobiec, a senior editor at Human Events and former Navy intelligence officer, told reporters outside the Fourth District Courthouse in Provo, Utah, Friday. "I think assassins are a cancer on society itself."

Such a change would require lawmakers to expand the aggravating factors that make murder cases eligible for the death penalty. Under current laws in the federal system and the 27 states that have capital punishment, assassination cases aren't automatically death penalty eligible.

"Specifically political assassinations, but really any assassination — it's an attack on our rights as free people," Posobiec said. "It's an attack on our rights under the First Amendment. It's an attack on our very way of life as Americans and as Americans, you have to provide the utmost penalty for someone who attacks our very bedrock way of life."

Kirk's murder during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem on Sept. 10, 2025, is one of two major assassination cases making their way through court at present. Months before Kirk's death, UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was gunned down from behind outside a New York City hotel hours before he was supposed to attend a business conference with Wall Street investors.

The suspect in that case, Luigi Mangione, would no longer face the potential death penalty if convicted after his lawyers successfully outmaneuvered federal prosecutors, who could not use the alleged assassination itself as an aggravating factor under current law.

He is accused of writing anti-insurance industry messages on casings recovered from the crime scene. Robinson is accused of following suit — engraving cartridges with memes and Antifa-inspired phrases.

Mangione has pleaded not guilty to all charges in New York, where there is no death penalty, and at the federal level.

Robinson has not yet entered a plea and isn't expected to do so until at least September, when Judge Tony Graf Jr. rules on whether there's enough evidence to send the case to trial.

Posobiec, who attended all five days of the hearing, agreed with prosecutors who said they had "overwhelming" and "devastating" evidence against the defendant.

"This isn't just a document that says Tyler Robinson did it," he told reporters.

Prosecutors showed a video interview with Robinson's former lover and roommate, Lance Twiggs, who alleged the suspect made multiple confessions.

They heard testimony about DNA consistent with Robinson's being found on items at the crime scene, including the suspected murder weapon and the ammo inside, which were recovered in the woods near campus — more than 250 miles from his home in southern Utah.

Toolmark evidence allegedly linked an engraved cartridge casing found in Robinson's apartment to the same Dremel tool investigators assert was used to engrave cartridges and a spent casing recovered at the crime scene.

Investigators testified that a suspect and vehicle on campus surveillance video were Robinson and his Dodge Challenger. The video allegedly showed Robinson following the same path twice — in different outfits. During the second visit, the suspect is shown walking with a distinctive, limp-like gait, as he is alleged to be walking with a rifle concealed down his pant leg.

He allegedly made contact with Turning Point USA members before the shooting and with a Spanish Fork police officer afterward.

And he allegedly claimed responsibility for the crime in text messages and a handwritten note to Twiggs, a conversation with his parents and a Discord chat with multiple people.

Posobiec contrasted the evidence presented against Robinson over the course of a week to the case against Bryan Kohberger, where prosecutors had little more than a touch DNA sample on a Ka-Bar knife sheath the quadruple murderer dropped at the crime scene, along with some circumstantial phone data and the description of a suspect vehicle.

But Kohberger pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty, Posobiec noted.

"You compare that minimal amount of evidence to this avalanche — and there has been an avalanche of evidence," he said.

Robinson is due back in court on Sept. 1 for oral arguments on whether his case should be bound over — or sent to trial.
