Vance says Canada friendlier to China on trade than to US: 'Insanity'

President Donald Trump's trade talks with Canada have stalled – with threats of retaliatory tariffs ramping up again – but Vice President JD Vance was in Maine, explaining to voters that Canada has been friendlier to China on trade than to them, particularly farmers.

"They treat Chinese goods more fairly than they do the goods that come from the people of Maine: It’s insanity," Vance said during a question-and-answer session in Brewer, Maine, on Monday afternoon. "And what we’ve said to Canada is stop it."

Vance said he believes the U.S. and Canada had been close to reaching a trade agreement before negotiations broke down, blaming Ottawa for bringing what he described as "unreasonable last-minute demands" to the table.

"I frankly thought we had a deal," Vance said. "I think that we should have a deal, but I think that we need to send a message loud and clear to the prime minister of Canada: Stop taking advantage of the people of Maine. Stop taking advantage of America. It’s over."

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Friday that Canada was suspending negotiations. Trump posted Monday on Truth Social that he plans to impose 50% tariffs on Canadian-made vehicles, auto parts and steel beginning in January 2027.

"Canada has been ripping off the United States of America for years," Trump wrote. "Their ridiculously high tariffs on our Farmers and farm products has made life impossible for these great American Patriots, and has long created a 60 Billion Dollar Deficit between our two Countries. Not sustainable, and NOT ANYMORE!"

Vance made the remarks during an appearance at Compotech, a defense technology manufacturer in Brewer, as the vice president fielded a question about how the administration’s tariffs could affect Maine businesses and consumers.

"We’re very mindful of the fact that Maine is a border state with Canada," Vance said. "There’s a lot of cross-border transaction between Maine and Canada. And what we’re trying to do here is just make sure that Maine actually gets a fair deal."

Vance argued that Canada and China have been among the worst offenders when it comes to trade barriers against the U.S., while drawing a sharp distinction between what Washington expects from an economic competitor and from a longtime ally.

"China, you of course expect — they’re our biggest economic competitor," Vance said. "I would expect that from China. I would not expect that from Canada."

Vance then briefly referred to Canada as a "state" before immediately correcting himself, referencing Trump's long-running trolling of Canada, teasing it as the 51st state.

"We have to remember Canada is a state — sorry, Freudian slip — that was actually an accident," Vance said. "Canada is a country that has underinvested in its military that quite literally would get invaded by a foreign country were it not for the umbrella of protection provided by the United States of America."

He argued that Canada had responded to that relationship by imposing trade restrictions on American products while expecting the U.S. not to retaliate.

"They apply ridiculous tariffs and other non-tariff duties on Maine products coming into Canada, and they don’t expect Maine or anybody else to fight back," Vance said. "We’re sick of that."

"We are actually going to fight back against unfair trade practices, whether it’s coming from China or Canada."

Vance pointed specifically to dairy products, contrasting the treatment of Canadian products entering Maine with the tariffs that can apply when U.S. dairy exports exceed Canada’s tariff-rate quotas.

"If a Maine farmer sends dairy products into Canada, they could be paying as much as a 250% tariff," Vance said. "Now, how is it fair to the farmers of Maine that they pay 250% when the Canadian farmers pay nothing?"

Canada’s dairy system provides duty-free access for set quantities of U.S. products under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, but steep tariffs can apply once imports exceed those quotas. Canada’s tariff schedule, for example, lists a 241% over-quota rate for certain milk products, while other dairy categories can carry even higher rates.

Vance also accused Canada of allowing Chinese goods to use the country as a route into the North American market, saying that issue had become part of the latest negotiations.

"We know that Canada allows itself to be used as a back door for Chinese goods," Vance said.

Vance nevertheless left open the possibility of the two sides returning to an agreement, even as he made clear the administration was prepared to keep tariffs in place without concessions from Ottawa.

"I think that we should have a deal," Vance said. "We expect fairness in our trade policy."

Former NBA player Royce White believes Enes Kanter Freedom’s removal from a WNBA game following his exchange with Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud may be only the beginning of the league’s response.

White, who, like Freedom, has officially declared for the 2027 WNBA Draft to challenge the league's eligibility policies, joined 'Don't @ Me w/ Dan Dakich' on Monday and shared his reaction to the now-viral moment that unfolded in Chicago on Sunday during the Indiana Fever's 113-90 win over the Sky.

During a break in the action in the third quarter, Cloud began talking towards Freedom, who was sitting court side. The former NBA forward responded by stepping toward the floor, leading Cloud to approach him, before security got involved and escorted Freedom out of the arena.

When asked by Dakich whether he believes Freedom may have made a mistake by getting involved with Cloud, White took things in a bit of a different direction, and predicted the WNBA will intervene with authority.

"I just know how the business works and how the PR works, and they're going to say that he instigated a conflict with a player, and there is an immutable line between the spectators and the players," White began.

"They're going to make a statement that he's, you know, indefinitely suspended or banned from WNBA events, if not NBA and WNBA. Same as the guy who was caught throwing the dildo on the court. Now it's a very different deal what that guy did and Enes, but they'll treat it the same because of the nature of the politics and the controversy. In my opinion, that statement is coming in the next couple of days."

After being escorted out of the arena, Freedom shared his side of what took place on the floor with Cloud.

"And I was like, ‘I am not trying to sleep with her. I’m just here to protect women and support her.’ And then, obviously, after that she started yapping, and she started to walk towards me, and literally I just got up, and then I was like, ‘I’m just here to protect women, and that’s all.’"

Freedom and White both declared for the 2027 WNBA Draft earlier this month after Fever star Sophie Cunningham received backlash for stating her opinion that women's sports should be exclusive to women. Freedom and White are using the league’s rules to challenge the WNBA to clarify its eligibility standards.

The WNBA’s current collective bargaining agreement states that "only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA." It does not publicly define the term or establish specific eligibility requirements for transgender athletes.

EXCLUSIVE: From agents being followed home and harassed to dealing with riots and local police refusing to assist, ICE Los Angeles Field Office Director Thomas Giles gave Fox News Digital an inside look at the daily risks of conducting operations in one of America’s largest sanctuary cities.

Fox News Digital accompanied Giles and a team of ICE officers on an immigration enforcement operation in the Los Angeles area early Thursday morning. In an interview from inside his vehicle during the operation, Giles emphasized that while "it's not going to shut us down and stop us," California’s sanctuary policies put both his agents and the community at risk.

"The sanctuary policies definitely impact our operations in terms of it'd be a lot easier for us to have that transfer of custody in a secure environment," he explained. "So, what it does for us is it sends our officers out into the community, putting our officers at risk and other community members at risk to go out and try to apprehend this individual."

Fox News Digital witnessed ICE arrest six illegal immigrants Thursday morning, including one who had been convicted of assault with a baseball bat and another who had been convicted of illegally re-entering the U.S. multiple times.

Giles explained that because of ongoing litigation in California, ICE officers are not allowed to knock on a target’s door or even set foot on the area surrounding the property. This complicates enforcement by forcing officers to apprehend targets in public spaces or through potentially dangerous vehicle stops.

He said that "before we had all these sanctuary policies … we were picking up hundreds of people a day at the local jails and bringing them in and processing them." Now, local law enforcement "can't even work with us," which he said "is definitely a big, huge public safety threat."

As an example, Giles pointed to one of the operation’s targets, 20-year-old Honduran national Julio Alberto Aroca-Rodriguez, whom local police had arrested the week before for assault with a deadly weapon using a baseball bat. Aroca-Rodriguez entered the U.S. at an unknown date and location and has been subject to a removal order since 2019. Local authorities declined to honor ICE’s request to hold Aroca-Rodriguez and released him.

When ICE officers encountered Aroca-Rodriguez on Thursday, they also detained four other "collaterals" identified as illegal immigrants. After making the arrests, the officers quickly relocated because a crowd of anti-ICE agitators had begun to form.

Giles described the treatment of ICE law enforcement officers by many California politicians, the media and members of the public as "degrading to the work that the men and women of ICE do."

"My officers have been followed home and been harassed, harassed on social media, harassed just personally, and they get in your face and everything else," he said.

Despite this, Giles praised his officers as Americans who "love this country" and "want to support the Constitution."

Iran-linked hackers suspected in UK power-plant shutdown after alleged Minnesota water attack

Iran-linked hackers are suspected of forcing a small British power generator offline for four days last month, the latest sign that Tehran-linked cyber activity may be moving from probing vulnerable systems to causing disruptions U.S. officials have long warned about.

Iran-linked hackers were behind the outage, according to British security officials who spoke with multiple news outlets.

"To be clear: there was no threat to the wider grid and nobody lost power. We have one of the most resilient energy systems in the world," UK Energy Minister Michael Shanks said in a statement.

He described the generator as "tiny" but said his department had briefed CEOs following the intrusion on "steps they should take to stay secure."

WATER CYBERATTACK HITS AT LEAST 7 STATES

The British shutdown came weeks after hackers struck more than 30 community water systems in Minnesota, accessing technology used to remotely monitor and control pumps and other equipment. Minnesota officials have not publicly attributed the attacks. Several news outlets, citing U.S. officials and a leaked industry threat-sharing memo, reported that Iran was the likely culprit. President Donald Trump has publicly rejected that assessment, saying he did not believe Iran was to blame.

Together, the incidents are putting civilian infrastructure at the center of another front in the conflict between the U.S. and Iran. As the military confrontation stretches into its sixth month, relatively small and often lightly defended water and energy facilities offer hackers a way to cause physical disruption without penetrating a major power grid or striking a military target.

Those facilities can be especially vulnerable because many rely on internet-connected industrial control systems that allow operators to monitor and manage physical equipment remotely. Once inside, hackers can interrupt operations, lock out operators or manipulate controls for pumps and other machinery.

In a July alert, the FBI and Environmental Protection Agency said malicious actors had targeted water and wastewater utilities in at least seven states by accessing exposed programmable logic controllers and changing their internet addresses and passwords. Some incidents disrupted water operations, causing reported pressure loss and flooding.

Federal agencies have also warned that Iranian-affiliated actors have targeted similar industrial devices across water, energy and government sectors, seeking access to the software used to control them. That activity has already caused operational disruptions and financial losses.

IRAN’S PROXY WAR HAS CROSSED OCEANS AND IS NOW KNOCKING ON AMERICA’S DOOR

Iranian hackers have pursued U.S. infrastructure before.

The threat extends beyond industrial systems. On Aug. 18, the Justice Department charged 17 members of an Iran-based company with carrying out a sweeping cyber theft campaign targeting hundreds of universities, private companies and government agencies. Prosecutors said many of the intrusions were conducted on behalf of the IRGC and other Iranian entities and resulted in the theft of more than 31 terabytes of academic data and intellectual property.

In 2016, the Justice Department charged an Iranian hacker with gaining access to the control system for a dam in Rye, New York. The dam’s sluice gate had been disconnected for maintenance at the time, preventing him from manipulating water levels and flow rates.

More recently, U.S. agencies linked an IRGC-affiliated campaign known as CyberAv3ngers to compromises of Israeli-made industrial controllers at dozens of U.S. facilities in late 2023 and early 2024, including water and wastewater systems, energy companies, food manufacturers and healthcare organizations. The campaign exploited devices exposed to the public internet that were still using default passwords.

The more recent attacks underscore how little access may be required to produce a physical effect. In Minnesota, compromised controllers affected systems used to track water levels, pressure, pump operations and equipment alarms; in some communities, equipment was temporarily taken offline while operators restored systems.

Whether Tehran intends a wider campaign against Western infrastructure remains unclear. But the four-day shutdown in Britain illustrates what hackers can do once they gain access to a small industrial system: disrupt physical operations without breaching a major grid operator or triggering a blackout large enough to invite an immediate military response.

Baseball tends to be a season full of streaks from teams. Some months, teams are awesome; some months they stink. It is easier to notice the successes or failures of teams when they are earlier in the season. You can see when a team is struggling more easily when their record is 11-16 as opposed to 55-59, for example. What happens when one of the hottest teams in baseball takes on one of the coldest teams? That's what we have tonight as the Phillies play the Mariners.

The Philadelphia Phillies are one of the hottest teams in baseball, having won their ninth straight game yesterday on a walk-off homer. It was a bit of a miraculous comeback as the Phillies were down 4-0 before the team scored six in the bottom of the ninth to win it. The team has won 16 of their past 21 games and is now threatening to take over the Braves for the best team in the National League East. It is fairly unlikely that they would miss the postseason, but that wasn't something that could be said before this stretch. On July 31, they were just four games above .500 and looking like the team that started the season instead of the one that had a great turnaround.

Today the team sends out one of their aces, giving them a good chance to make it to 10 wins in a row as Zack Wheeler takes the hill. Wheeler takes the ball today with a 10-4 record, 2.92 ERA, and a 1.01 WHIP. He has also racked up 144 strikeouts. He has been solid on the road this campaign with a slightly lower ERA at 2.67. This has been the worst month of his season, though. In August, he has allowed 10 earned runs over 17.1 innings of work. He hasn't completed six innings in any of his last five outings. Wheeler has been good against the Mariners in the past, holding them to a .172 batting average.

PHILLIES SEND CY YOUNG CONTENDER CHRISTOPHER SANCHEZ TO THE MOUND IN WILD CARD RACE SHOWDOWN

The Seattle Mariners are one of the most frustrating teams in baseball. They are seven games under .500 this season, despite looking like one of the best teams in baseball, at least on paper. Somehow, the team is under .500 and in jeopardy of missing the postseason. They are currently three games behind the Rangers and Astros, who are currently tied for first. It doesn't help that they also have to battle the Orioles, Twins, Blue Jays, and Guardians for the final Wild Card spot. They are also three games back in that race, and the Tigers are just behind at 3.5 games.

Looking to battle the Phillies and Wheeler is Logan Gilbert. For the season, Gilbert is 10-7 with a 3.35 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP. The problem that Gilbert has is that he has pitched much worse at home this season than on the road. He has allowed 20 homers this season, and 18 of them have come in Seattle. His road ERA is a stellar 2.49, but his home ERA is all the way up there at 4.01. He doesn't give up too many runs in the majority of starts, but this is not a place you'd want to trust him.

One guy that stands out for us to fade tonight is Randy Arozarena of the Mariners. For his career, he is just 1-for-13 against Wheeler with seven strikeouts. I'll take the under on his hits for tonight. Brandon Marsh of the Phillies is another one that might be worth fading tonight. He is just 2-for-17 against Gilbert with six strikeouts. I'm taking his under on hits tonight as well.

Aside from those plus-money props we have on the card, I've got a play for the game. The total is just 6.5 tonight, which is absurd to me. Gilbert allows runs on the road, and I think we should see the Phillies score three or four at least tonight. I'll take a shot on the over. I also think the Phillies will win this game tonight. The line is moving toward the Mariners, but Gilbert has shown he allows homers at home, and Wheeler has been great. Give me the over, Phillies, and the two player props.

Trump wants cheaper beef. Republicans in key races warn his plan goes too far

Senate Republicans racing to keep their grip on power have beef with President Donald Trump’s latest affordability push.

A handful of Republicans in the upper chamber aren’t happy with Trump’s directive to allow hundreds of thousands of tons of foreign beef into the U.S. in a bid to lower grocery bills. It comes as Americans’ struggles with everyday affordability have erupted as a key issue for voters across the country.

Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., who is up for re-election this cycle and is one of Trump’s top allies in the Senate, argued that beef prices are high "for a simple reason: Our cattle herd is too small."

TRUMP URGED TO STOP TARGETING FELLOW REPUBLICANS AS GOP FIGHTS TO KEEP MAJORITY

"Imported beef below market prices will only put more pressure on our cattlemen," Cotton said on X. "I have advised the President against this ill-advised action in the past and I now urge him to reconsider. We need to support our cattlemen, grow the herd, and let the market work."

Trump last week announced on Truth Social his intent to flood the market with 300,000 metric tons of imported ground beef with a commitment that the product would be sold at 25% below current market prices over a 90-day span.

It comes as ground beef prices have soared to roughly $7 per pound, while the nation’s cattle herd earlier this year hit historic lows not seen since the 1950s, according to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Trump defended his import plan as he headed to South Carolina to stump for Sen. Darline Graham, R-S.C., arguing "that’s what the people want."

"That’s what the voters want, and that’s what I want. The ranchers are great. They’re my people. I love the ranchers," Trump said. "They’ve done a fantastic job, but they admit that we need a little help in order to get the prices down, so that’s what we’re doing."

Neither Trump, nor the administration, has so far said which countries the ground beef would come from. But earlier this year, he signed an executive order similarly aimed at lowering beef prices by allowing an influx of 80,000 metric tons of beef trimmings from Argentina.

Republicans at the time privately fumed over the directive in a closed-door meeting in the Senate with Vice President JD Vance.

And now, Republicans running for office in America’s heartland again disagree.

"I want to lower prices, but this is a bad idea," Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, said on X.

Hinson is running in one of the tightest races in the country to replace retiring Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa. Cook Political Report rated the race a toss-up last week.

Other in-cycle incumbents aren’t thrilled with Trump’s push, either. Sen. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., charged, "This Hurts!," while Sen. Pete Ricketts, R-Neb., contended that he appreciated the work to "lower grocery prices," but warned that "short-term policy shifts do not equal long-term solutions."

"Flooding the market with lower quality beef compromises Nebraska farmers and ranchers," Ricketts said.

Trump’s other key Senate allies aren’t thrilled with the plan either.

Sen. Tim Sheehy, R-Mont., said he’s advised Trump not to do this for the last year because it would harm American ranchers, "most of whom are MAGA Republicans."

"The president’s heart is in the right place on wanting lower prices for the American people, and beef prices have been impacted by the Mexican screwworm," Sheehy said.

The White House and the USDA did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

But, as Slater later joked, his title reign quickly came to an end later in the night.

Slater stepped into the ring following Nic and Ryan Nemeth’s victory over The Hardys to capture the TNA World Tag Team Championship. He grabbed the microphone and told Nic Nemeth he was cashing in his Option C opportunity to face Nemeth for his TNA World Championship.

Option C allows Slater to cash-in the X Division Championship for a shot at the world title. It meant that Slater was no longer the X Division champion.

Pennsylvania community raises thousands for small farm after carjacking left thousands in produce losses

A small Pennsylvania farm is facing thousands of dollars in losses after a barefoot carjacker allegedly attacked an employee and took off with a van packed with freshly harvested produce.

"It is really more surreal than traumatic," Hayday Farms owner Hank Whittenberg told Fox News on Monday.

"It was just a crazy situation at a stoplight where the man jumped onto the back of the van."

The incident took place earlier this month when an employee on his way to a Philadelphia farmer's market was stopped at a traffic light and confronted by a man wearing scrubs.

Whittenberg said the employee was struck in the face during the confrontation, but is doing well despite suffering a black eye.

Bensalem police recovered the van two days later, but the five-acre farm was left facing thousands of dollars in losses after equipment was taken, the vehicle was damaged and much of the produce inside was left to rot.

"The van’s ripped up, equipment was taken," Whittenberg said, describing the lingering smell of rotting cantaloupes, tomatoes and corn inside the vehicle, which has since been replaced by the smell of chlorine and another scent he described as "mysterious."

Whittenberg told an area ABC affiliate that the perpetrator stole the cash box, a supply of honey and scales.

The costly setback prompted Whittenberg to launch a GoFundMe after supporters encouraged him to start one, with the community quickly rallying around the farm. As of Monday, the fundraiser had raised more than $11,000.

"We’re stunned with the response and just overwhelmed," Whittenberg said. "It really lets me know how much Philadelphia really stands behind us. It's really remarkable."

Neighbors have spotted the husband to slain New Jersey woman Brooke Hanlon, 35, in Chester months after she was found stabbed to death in the family's home.

Conor Hanlon, 36, has been making weekly stops at his Chester, New Jersey home — usually staying for Thursday into Friday stints, neighbors say. Many have seen his white Volvo SUV parked in his driveway.

His wife, Brooke, was found dead inside the home on June 6, with the Morris County Prosecutor's Office investigating it as a homicide case. So far, no suspect or person of interest has been named.

Conservatives are blasting the Charleston, South Carolina, chapter of Democratic Socialists of America after the group shared a Facebook ad seeking volunteers to provide child care at meetings and help support its "next generation of comrades."

"No experience with kids needed! Come ready to learn how to grow and support our next generation of comrades," DSA Charleston posted to its Facebook page Friday. "If you'd like to help support our next generation of comrades, join this training to review best practices, roleplay through scenarios, and get you feeling confident to welcome and care for our budding comrades."

The group is offering the virtual Zoom training Monday evening to adults with or without children.

The training comes as DSA’s influence within Democratic politics is growing, with socialist candidates notching primary wins as the midterm campaign intensifies and giving the organization a broader platform for its policies and organizing.

Critics accused the group of using "indoctrination" tactics, arguing the training reflects a broader push by socialists to court children.

South Carolina is solid Republican territory, with President Donald Trump carrying the state by nearly 18 points in 2024 after Republicans won it in every presidential election dating back to 1980.

In March, the chapter held their first "Comrades With Kids hangout" in which parents were invited to bring their kids to participate in card games, crafts, and other activities, Fox News Digital found, according to a prior social media post.

"Do you see what’s happening?? Mamdani is offering ‘free’ babysitting so they could turn your kids into socialists. They’re doing this all over the country," wrote popular conservative accounts Libs of TikTok.

Separately, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist, has made child care a central part of his agenda, including through the city's new "Parents’ Night Out" program.

Mamdani's new pilot program titled, "Parents' Night Out," offers free-of-charge babysitting to parents for one night.

WNBA fight over males in women's sports exposes how the left keeps answering a question nobody asked

WNBA player Natasha Cloud had a message for transgender people Sunday night.

The Chicago Sky guard wrote on social media that trans people "belong," that they're loved, seen and "perfect as you are." She added that they would always be "protected" by her.

It came after Cloud confronted Enes Kanter Freedom during the Sky's 113-90 loss to the Indiana Fever at Wintrust Arena on Sunday night. Freedom has spent the past few weeks pushing the WNBA on something that really shouldn't be difficult to answer: Can a male play in a women's professional basketball league?

Cloud answered a question nobody asked.

The fight isn't over who gets through the doors at a WNBA arena. Freedom is asking whether a male is allowed to play in a women's league. Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has made the same basic point, saying "biological men" shouldn't compete in women's sports.

But there's a reason the conversation keeps getting dragged somewhere else: defending males in women's sports is a much harder argument to make than simply declaring "trans people belong."

And Cloud wasn't the only one doing this over the weekend.

The New York Liberty hosted the Fever at Barclays Center on Saturday, and the scoreboard featured messages specifically welcoming transgender fans.

"Welcome Trans Liberty fans! You are loved and you belong!" one read.

Another said, "Hey trans fans! Glad you're here! Go Liberty!"

Outside the arena, transgender activists showed up to counter a rally supporting Cunningham and chanted "trans lives matter."

Okay. Sure.

Transgender fans are welcome at basketball games. Treat them like everyone else in the building.

Now, can we talk about the actual issue?

Because the response to Cunningham is a perfect example of what’s been happening in this debate for years.

We've seen this move over and over again

Back in 2023, USA Today columnist Nancy Armour went after ESPN's Sam Ponder for supporting fairness in women's sports.

Armour called Ponder's position "bigotry" and accused Riley Gaines and others fighting to keep males out of women's sports of promoting hate.

I wrote at the time that Gaines wasn't "anti-trans." She was pro-woman.

Gaines' position has always been that the women's category should be reserved for females. You can disagree with her, but at least disagree with what she's actually saying.

Calling her a bigot or a transphobe is much easier than explaining why she's wrong.

A few months later, I went to Harvard when Riley Gaines spoke on campus. Before she even arrived, a Harvard athletic administrator had described her as an "athlete-turned-anti-trans-activist."

Sound familiar?

Rather than explain why Gaines was wrong about women's sports, the administrator branded her "anti-trans."

Then Martina Navratilova got the same treatment.

Navratilova has been one of the most outspoken female athletes in the country on this issue. She thinks women's sports should be for females.

A tennis reporter called her "transphobic" and accused her of going on an "anti-trans crusade."

So explain why Navratilova is wrong.

Seriously. Explain why a male should be entitled to compete in a female athletic category. That's the hard part, so critics change the subject to hate, safety or claims that children struggling with gender identity need to be "protected."

And now the WNBA is doing its own version of the same thing.

Saying "trans people belong" doesn't answer the question

For years, the playbook was simple: call anyone who objected a bigot or a transphobe.

Now the tactic is a little different. Don't defend males in women's sports. Just announce how much you love transgender people.

Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve wore a "Trans Kids Belong" shirt after Cunningham's comments started getting attention. Then came the Liberty scoreboard. Then Cloud's post.

But Cunningham wasn't talking about whether some kid somewhere feels like he or she "belongs."

"Trans Kids Belong" is a slogan, not an argument. And slogans become pretty useful when the logic isn't on your side. It still doesn't answer whether a male is eligible to play in the WNBA.

Freedom has forced the WNBA to confront that question.

He has publicly said he intends to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft. Former NBA player Royce White has said the same. Obviously, they're making a point, and it's a useful one because the WNBA's own publicly cited eligibility language says only players who are women can play, but the league has not publicly defined the term.

So define "woman," WNBA. That shouldn't take multiple meetings over "weeks and months." The WNBA exists for female basketball players, which should mean a male isn't eligible.

Period.

And every time the question comes up, the WNBA drags the discussion back to hate, inclusion and protecting transgender people. Pretty soon we're miles away from the reason anyone started talking about this in the first place.

A trans fan can go to a Liberty game, buy a jersey and spend the night yelling at the refs like everyone else. Nobody's debating whether that person gets to sit in the stands.

We're talking about who gets to be on the court.

Women's sports exist because sex matters in athletic competition. That's why female athletes have their own leagues, divisions and championships in the first place.

So protect that category.

Keeping males out of women's sports isn't a statement about how anyone should be treated outside of sports.

Cloud can post whatever message she wants, and the Liberty can welcome trans fans on the scoreboard. Fine.

But the WNBA still hasn't answered the question that started this whole debate.

Should a male be allowed to compete in women's sports?

No.

Maybe someday the people calling everyone else hateful will explain why they think the answer should be yes.

49ers owner Jed York arrested for 'engaging in prostitution' in Ohio, pleads no contest to lesser charges

San Francisco 49ers owner and CEO John "Jed" York was arrested and arraigned in East Palestine, Ohio on suspicion of "engaging in prostitution" and "possessing criminal tools" charges that were later amended to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools, according to court records.

York was booked Sunday morning and released that afternoon on a $5,000 bond, the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to OutKick.

The arrest occurred at the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community – a trailer park.

East Palestine police referred OutKick to contact the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force for more information. The Task Force has not responded to a request for comment.

York appeared in Columbiana County Municipal Court on Monday morning. He pleaded no contest to the two misdemeanor charges after the prosecutor filed a plea agreement.

He must serve two days in jail, with one of those already credited for time served.

York was also ordered to pay $1,150 in fines.

York has been the majority owner of the 49ers since 2024 and was previously the team's CEO. He is originally from Youngstown, Ohio.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner met in recent weeks and spoke about possible issues of common ground, according to reports, landing the top House Democrat in hot water with some on the political left who have taken issue with the reported get-together.

The men talked about housing, immigration and high living costs as possible categories of common ground, the New York Times reported. Kushner, the husband of Trump's daughter Ivanka, suggested that the lawmaker should meet with White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, two individuals with knowledge of the meet-up noted, according to the outlet.

Fox News Digital reached out to Jeffries' offices and the White House on Monday.

We are fighting for an affordable America. The question is whether Republicans will join us," he said in the statement.

Some on the left have objected to the reported meeting between the congressman and Kushner.

Hayden Panettiere's mom is detailing the heartbreaking ultimatum that led to their estrangement months before the actress' death.

In an interview with "Good Morning America," which aired Monday, Lesley Vogel said she and the late actress had become estranged in the months before Panettiere's death after Vogel gave her daughter an ultimatum over her daughter's relationship with on-again, off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson.

About a year ago, Vogel traveled to California to stay with Panettiere and help her end her relationship with Hickerson — a decision the "Nashville" star made on her own, Vogel claimed.

"I very much oppose these proposed changes, by the current Brooklyn Democratic Party chair," Mamdani said. "I oppose them because they are an attempt to circumnavigate the will of voters."

NYC TAXPAYERS COULD PAY TWICE UNDER MAMDANI'S CITY-OWNED GROCERY STORE PLAN

The newly elected district leaders will not take their seats until the fall, and Bichotte Hermelyn and her supporters still hold a majority as current district leaders prepare to vote on the proposed changes Tuesday night, according to the outlet.

Bichotte Hermelyn has described the changes as an effort to broaden participation in the party.

"We want to create a perception of inclusiveness," she told NY1. In a video released by the Brooklyn Democratic organization, she said the proposals would "expand leadership" and "expand representation."

The reformers have backed longtime Sunset Park district leader Julio Peña to become the next party chair. If the proposed changes pass, the additional voting members would take part in the fall leadership election.

Mamdani said the Brooklyn Democratic Party should reflect what New Yorkers want, rather than the kind of politics that has left people "disengaged and disaffected with politics at large."

New York Attorney General Letitia James and Public Advocate Jumaane Williams have also urged the party not to move forward with the changes.

"New Yorkers deserve leaders who are committed to serving their communities, not rewriting rules to hold onto power," they said in a joint statement obtained by City and State New York. "Changing the makeup of an executive committee on the eve of a leadership vote goes against what we believe in as Democrats and should not move forward."

Another proposal would give former party chairs a vote in future leadership elections even after they are no longer district leaders.

According to the City Reporter, that appears to mean former party chair Clarence Norman could vote on future party leadership. Norman resigned in 2005 after multiple corruption convictions, including one for soliciting bribes from judicial nominees.

After the leadership election, another proposed change would allow additional voting members to be appointed from each Assembly district, potentially bringing the executive committee to about 90 members.

Reporter's Notebook: College sports bill enters legislative 'red zone' as season kicks off

The college football season kicks off this Saturday with North Carolina playing Texas Christian University in Dublin, Ireland.

This marks the start of a sprint until early April when college football and basketball practically compete on a near-daily basis with MLB, the NFL, the NBA and NHL.

This college football season begins with lawmakers falling short of a goal to pass a bill to alter the flow of money in college sports. And despite recent momentum, lawmakers may be lucky to pass the bill when the clock shows zeroes on April 5 in Detroit and the NCAA crowns its next basketball Final Four champion.

PROTECT COLLEGE SPORTS ACT STALLS IN OVERNIGHT SENATE SHOWDOWN, VOTE PUSHED TO SEPTEMBER AFTER CHAOTIC EVENING

President Trump demanded that the Senate stay in session this month to pass a bipartisan college sports measure. That wasn’t going to happen simply because the bill’s not ready yet. The measure didn’t even secure a specific agreement for a test vote when the Senate returns in September. Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said there was a deal for a vote at some point. However, an unrelated bill to regulate cryptocurrency marshaled a concrete time for a test vote on the afternoon of Tuesday, Sept. 15. The college sports measure didn’t head into the August recess with that level of certainty.

But the one thing that is certain? Intercollegiate athletics face myriad problems.

"College sports right now is in crisis. It is chaos that is ripping college sports apart," said Cruz.

"I think that the arms race that exists now where people are just paying any amount of money from a system is not the right way to get this done," said Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash. She’s the top Democrat on the Senate Commerce Committee and helped craft the bipartisan legislation with Cruz.

The measure establishes a national standard for athlete compensation — including NIL — for the use of name, image and likeness of athletes. It also limits them to one transfer without losing eligibility within a five-year window.

But understanding the bill’s remedies is challenging.

"[The bill] seemed pretty dense when I read it," yours truly observed to Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., one afternoon in a hallway of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

"It's dense as hell," replied Kennedy. "And that’s a legal term."

The measure raises the ceiling of money schools can use to compensate athletes. It essentially allows "third-party entities," like athletic footwear or equipment manufacturers like Under Armour or Nike, to pipeline additional money to schools.

Naturally, football and men’s basketball score most of the money under the current system. But lawmakers worry that women’s athletics and smaller sports like volleyball, lacrosse and soccer could evaporate unless Congress intervenes.

"It's the revenue from football and maybe basketball, but mostly football that funds everything else," said Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del.

The college sports bill seemed to gain traction in late July when the Big Ten and SEC — the most muscular of all college athletic conferences — announced their support of the legislation. Lawmakers could try to write a bill all they wanted, but with all due respect to the Mid-American Conference and Mountain West, the measure wouldn’t go anywhere unless the Big Ten and SEC were on board.

It was thought that the college sports package might get a test vote before the August recess, but a band of conservatives claimed the legislation fell short when it came to protecting women from competing against men.

"It looks like a bunch of trial lawyers drew this thing up," said Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., a former Division I football coach who ran programs at Ole Miss, Auburn, Texas Tech and Cincinnati.

UNIVERSITIES ARE DESPERATE TO WIN NOW, BUT ATHLETES AND THE NATION BOTH LOSE

Tuberville teamed up with Sens. Jim Banks, R-Ind., and Josh Hawley, R-Mo., to craft an amendment going further in the legislation. Banks believed that the bill could undercut Indiana state law, which extends prohibitions on biological males competing in K-12 sports to college athletics. Banks expressed concern that the Cruz/Cantwell bill "would preempt Indiana’s law." The Indiana Republican asserted that he couldn’t support the legislation as written.

However, President Donald Trump torched those who said the bill failed to bar men from playing women’s sports at any level.

"Nobody has done more to protect Women Athletes than me — and this Bill CLEARLY protects the Laws in 27 States protecting Women's Sports, and banning Men from Women's Sports. Anyone who tells you differently is LYING!" thundered the president on Truth Social.

Trump worried that without adoption of this legislation, "Programs will be canceled, Women's and Olympic Sports will go away, the fans will be robbed, and Universities will go broke." He then asked the Senate to "stay in D.C. until it passes."

Despite the president’s advocacy, that wasn’t going to happen. However, the legislation does have a new set of downs — thanks to the Big Ten and SEC.

The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) opposes the bill. In a statement, the CBC said the package fails to incorporate "perspectives of Black athletes."

Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., is the only former Division I football player in the Senate, competing as a tight end for Stanford. He opposes the bill.

"There are a lot of people who have substantive objections with that bill that should give us all pause," said Booker.

So the Senate essentially took a timeout on the bill with the August recess. As any fan knows, timeouts are essential in sports. They allow teams to regroup. Rehydrate with water or Gatorade. Players to catch their breath. Coaches to draw up a special play to bring the team to victory.

It’s not known what the play call might be from Cruz, Cantwell or even Trump. Or if anything would work. Some skeptics believe the Senate’s decision to leave Washington without the locked-in test vote could cost the bill momentum — compared to the deal dictating the test vote on the cryptocurrency legislation.

The University of Oklahoma led the nation in red-zone efficiency last season. The Sooners scored touchdowns more than 97% of the time when moving the ball within 20 yards of the end zone.

Ninety-seven percent is a ridiculously efficient figure. The Philadelphia Eagles were the NFL’s best red zone team last season, scoring touchdowns around 70% of the time.

The U.S. Senate is not the gridiron. But it’s clear that the bill to regulate college sports has now entered the legislative red zone. A lot of legislation gets this close to the goal line, but senators rarely enjoy the success of the Sooners or Eagles when it comes to punching it in.

John Cusack stands in 'solidarity' with Mark Ruffalo amid Paramount's antisemitism allegation

Actor John Cusack threw his support behind fellow Hollywood star Mark Ruffalo over the weekend as Ruffalo pushed back against Paramount's accusations that his criticism of tech giant Oracle invoked "antisemitic tropes."

"Solidarity — well said." Cusack wrote on X in response to Ruffalo’s lengthy defense of his remarks, which centered on Oracle’s ties to the Israeli military and the company’s leadership.

The controversy erupted after Ruffalo criticized Oracle executive vice chair Safra Catz, who also sits on Paramount’s board, and reposted a video of her discussing "really profoundly scary technologies" Oracle used to assist the Israeli military following the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas terror attacks.

The actor argued that the deal, which would put CNN, HBO and Warner Bros. under the same family's control, raises concerns about editorial independence, jobs and more.

"These 'really profoundly scary technologies' will most likely be merged into one of the largest media conglomerates in the world and one day used on you. Look how she revels in what we now have come to see as a genocide, which was built on an apartheid system of oppression powered by Oracle," the Marvel actor wrote in an Instagram story.

Paramount subsequently issued a statement saying it was "troubled when antisemitic tropes are invoked" in what it characterized as a business dispute.

"Words like ‘genocide’ and ‘apartheid,’ applied to a corporate transaction, aren’t just wrong. They’re a bridge too far, and they cheapen the very real suffering those words are meant to describe," a company spokesperson added.

Ruffalo fired back Saturday, telling Fox News Digital the accusation that he is antisemitic was "appalling and fundamentally dishonest." He maintained that criticism of the Israeli government, military technology contracts or the executives behind them should not be equated with criticism of Jewish people.

"Scrutinizing the Ellisons, including Oracle’s business built on data, surveillance technology and government contracts and the serious threat to editorial freedom and the loss of a livelihood for thousands of families, is fair and necessary," he said.

"Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have called for serious national security review, and regulators still haven’t given the public a real answer. Until they do, the merger shouldn’t move forward. Now is the time to dive boldly into all these issues, not step back or concede," he added.

The potential merger has also drawn legal scrutiny from a coalition of 12 state attorneys general challenging the deal. Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery have agreed not to close the transaction until five days after a court rules on the merits of the states’ claims or June 1, 2027, whichever comes first.

In a statement noted by The Hollywood Reporter, Simon Wiesenthal Center CEO Jim Berk said, "Words matter, and so does the willingness to draw a line when legitimate debate gives way to antisemitic tropes. We commend Paramount for speaking clearly and refusing to allow prejudice to masquerade as political or corporate criticism."

Film critic Christian Toto, the founder and editor of Hollywood in Toto, told Fox News, "I'm guessing Mark would rather John Cusack have stayed silent on the matter!" Toto then pointed to controversial comments that Cusack has made on the situation in the Middle East.

Toto continued, "More importantly, the issue in play is getting more attention now that antisemitism is flaring up in the culture at large and within the Democratic Party. That hasn't bled into Hollywood, Inc., yet, but it might sooner than later. Maybe a good example of that fracture is happening with the Paramount merger fight. Some Hollywood groups and Democrats are requesting a resolution to the matter, while others have dug their heels in, battling the merger at all costs."

He concluded, "This could get ugly, becoming a Blue on Blue battle within La La Land that could cause real damage to careers."

Ali and Hotch’s feud got personal after Hotch initially dethroned Ali as the international champion. Hotch held the title for a few days before Ali got his revenge at Lockdown. As the match moved beyond the cage, Ali stole a stuffed animal that Hotch’s daughter was holding in the stands. Ali was about to set the animal on fire before Hotch intervened.

Marlins look to close gap in the wild card race as they host surging Red Sox in Miami tonight

We've reached the final week of August, which means there are only about four or five weeks remaining in the baseball regular season. Now is the time for teams to strap in and make their moves if they can. The postseason is within reach, and sometimes a hot team can upset the best teams. There is no guarantee the Dodgers win the World Series again, but in order to dethrone them, you need to make it to the postseason first. The Red Sox should make it, and the Marlins are still in the hunt. The two square off today in Miami.

The Boston Red Sox have been one of the hottest teams in baseball for about two months, but they did have a recent blip after all their success. They had some massive winning streaks, but over the last 16 days, the team is just 7-7. The good news for the Red Sox is that they may be entering another hot streak, having won three straight and five of their past six games. I think it is fairly unlikely they win the division, but they have a very good chance of making the postseason thanks to a 6.5-game lead over the final Wild Card spot.

Tonight, the Red Sox get one of the better off-season acquisitions taking the ball. Ranger Suarez came over from Philadelphia in the offseason and has been strong for Boston. He is just 5-3 this season, but holds a 3.41 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. Despite missing time, he still owns 113 strikeouts for the year. He has been better on the road this season than he has been at home as well, throwing to a 2.75 ERA as a visitor compared to a 4.14 ERA when he throws at Fenway. He has struggled a bit this month, giving up eight earned runs over 13.1 innings. This might be the match-up he needs, though. He has held the Marlins hitters to just 1 hit over 21 at-bats.

The Miami Marlins are still fighting for a playoff spot, which is pretty impressive given the average age of their team. Depending on how you look at it, they are somewhere around 27 years old, so most don't have a ton of experience. The team is above .500 and is just four games back of the final playoff spot in the Wild Card race. They still need to leapfrog the Diamondbacks and Padres to own it, but they are at least in contention. That's probably more than most people would've expected this year.

It has been a bit of a bounce-back season for Alcantara as he owns a 13-8 record with a 3.46 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. He also has 131 strikeouts for the year. Like Suarez, he has some interesting splits. In home games, he has pitched to a 2.69 ERA, but his night ERA is 4.15. Looking at his monthly performance, he has lowered his ERA every month since May, with August being his best month, allowing just four earned runs over 26 innings of work. Red Sox hitters are batting just .207 against him.

Maybe I'm a bit crazy for trying to dodge the freight train that is the Boston Red Sox, but I'm taking the Marlins tonight. Alcantara has been sharp in his action, and Suarez hasn't been quite as good. I know the Red Sox are the better team, and neither team is showing a ton of success against the opposing starter, but I like the chances of the Marlins, at home, with Alcantara on the mound, and at plus money.

Ex-deputy Sean Grayson dies serving 20-year prison term for Sonya Massey killing after medical release denied

Former Illinois sheriff’s deputy Sean Grayson died Sunday while serving a 20-year prison sentence for fatally shooting Sonya Massey in her home, his attorney confirmed to Fox News Digital.

Grayson’s attorney, Daniel Fultz, did not provide further details about his client’s death.

Before the shooting, Grayson was battling colon cancer. At sentencing, his attorneys said the cancer had spread to his liver and lungs.

In May, Grayson sought medical release from prison under an Illinois law for inmates with terminal or serious illnesses. The Illinois Prisoner Review Board denied the request last month.

A jury convicted Grayson, 32, in October of second-degree murder in the 2024 shooting death of Massey, a 36-year-old Black woman who had called 911 to report a possible prowler outside her Springfield-area home.

Body-camera video released after the July 6, 2024, shooting showed Massey ducking and apologizing moments before Grayson fired three shots inside the home. One struck her in the head.

Massey called police shortly before 1 a.m. to report what she believed was suspicious activity outside the home, about 200 miles southwest of Chicago. Grayson and another deputy walked around the property before speaking with Massey at the front door, where she told them, "Don’t hurt me."

Inside, video shows Massey appearing confused as deputies questioned her and sought identification to complete a report. As they prepared to leave, Grayson noticed a pot heating on the stove.

"We don’t need a fire while we’re here," he said.

Prosecutors said Grayson later ordered Massey to move the pot of hot water, threatened to shoot her and then opened fire after she briefly rose from a crouched position.

Grayson’s partner, Dawson Farley, later testified that he did not see Massey as a threat and drew his own gun only after Grayson did.

Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, a moderate Republican seeking re-election in a blue-leaning state, is not joining Vice President JD Vance on Monday as he stops in her home state of Maine.

Collins, who at times has opposed President Donald Trump's legislative priorities, is a top target for Democrats this year as she runs in a midterm race that's among roughly a dozen that will determine if the GOP holds onto its slim Senate majority.

Vance's stop in Maine comes as Collins opposes Trump's move this past weekend to impose 50% tariffs on a range of goods from Canada, which shares a long border with Maine. And the senator is also opposed to new U.S. Postal Service rules that, if implemented, could rein in mail-in voting.

The vice president on Monday delivered remarks in Brewer, Maine, at Compotech, a defense technology manufacturer. It's the second stop this year by Vance in Maine and the second time that Collins has not teamed up with the vice president.

"I am already scheduled on Monday, so I will not be able to join the vice president," Collins told reporters on Saturday.

The Senate was in session when Vance held an event in Bangor, Maine, in May, and Collins stayed in Washington. The senator holds a historic attendance record of casting over 10,000 consecutive roll call votes in the Senate dating back three decades.

But Collins, speaking to reporters as she marched in the annual Madison-Anson Days parade, her seventh parade this summer, highlighted that she teamed up last week with Energy Secretary Chris Wright when he stopped in Maine to tour a federally funded battery storage project in Lincoln built on the site of a closed paper mill.

"I really appreciated Secretary Wright's presence," Collins said.

Collins, who was one of a small group of Republicans who voted to convict Trump in a 2021 Senate trial after the House impeached him following the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, has at times voted against the Trump administration's wishes.

"I still think imposing new tariffs on Canada is a mistake," Collins said on Saturday.

Collins also referred to the proposed U.S. Post Office rule to implement a Trump executive order to rein in mail-in voting by refusing to deliver absentee ballots in states that have not turned over their raw voter rolls to the Justice Department or Department of Homeland Security.

"Mail-in ballots are very important to the people of Maine," Collins said. "I do not support restrictions that make it more difficult for seniors to cast votes on Election Day via the mail."

Collins says she supports the House version of the federal SAVE America Act (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act), which mandates documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote and a photo ID for federal elections. But she joined three other Republicans and all Democrats to vote against advancing a Senate version of the bill, which is a top Trump priority.

Collins has also taken issue with the Trump administration over its crackdown on illegal immigration, and its aggressive deportation efforts. The administration received backlash following the fatal shootings by federal enforcement agents of two U.S. citizens in Minnesota who were protesting immigration operations. And the issue flared again this summer, after a fatal ICE shooting in Biddeford, Maine.

Democrats, including her Senate challenger, former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson, have repeatedly linked her to Trump, and heavily criticized her for her past funding for ICE.

Collins is the only Republican senator running for re-election in a state then-Vice President Kamala Harris carried in the 2024 election. And highlighting her differences with the president and his administration may be beneficial to Collins as she woos independent voters and even some Democrats.

Vance, during his May stop in Maine, said, "Sometimes I get frustrated with Susan Collins."

"I almost wish that she was more partisan. But the thing I love about Susan is she is independent, because Maine is an independent state. And, frankly, if she was as partisan as I sometimes wish that she was, she would not be a good fit for the people of Maine," Vance continued.

Vance added, "Let’s give a shoutout to Susan Collins, who’s doing a great job."

Jackson's campaign, in a social media post ahead of Vance's visit, called the vice president "Susan's pal."

The vice president reiterated those sentiments in his Monday address in Brewer, Maine, calling Collins his "dear friend."

"As you know, Susan is the most independent member of the United States Senate and, as the president of the United States Senate, she sometimes makes my job a little bit harder. But she makes it harder because she’s coming to work every single day and fighting not for a political party… she comes to work every single day and fights for the great people of Maine and I’ve seen it," Vance said.

Jackson, in a social media post and video ahead of Vance's visit, took aim at Vance and Collins.

"I'm sure JD Vance loves her because she's doing everything that he wants for her, but she's not doing it for Maine people," Jackson argued in an accompanying video.

Vance was joined in Brewer by former two-term Republican Gov. Paul LePage, who is the GOP nominee in Maine's 2nd Congressional District.

The most rural district, the largest in the eastern U.S., is a top flip opportunity for the GOP, with moderate Democratic Rep. Jared Golden declining to seek re-election this year.

A 23-year-old pilot’s courage in safely ditching her twin-engine Piper in the Atlantic Ocean off Boca Raton, Fla., this weekend was matched by her calm humility in a statement thanking others rather than her own heroism.

"During the descent, my primary focus was ensuring the safety of everyone around me," Faith Tenkley, 23, said in a statement to Fox News. "I was able to navigate toward open water, successfully avoiding all nearby buildings, paddleboarders and swimmers (as well as individuals using metal detectors)."

Viral video shared on social media showed the unusual and markedly smooth water landing Saturday morning as onlookers gasped; yet, video showed a man with a metal detector keenly focused on his beach treasure hunt as the stunning events unfolded around him.

"After deciding a landing at Boca Raton Airport was not the safest option, I continued to the coast."

Cleared by air traffic control (ATC) to land on a runway, her landing gear was malfunctioning, leaving her concerned about a hard landing with a plane still full of fuel.

Tenkley, who has been flying for four years, was the only person aboard her family’s twin-engine Piper PA-30 when it developed mechanical trouble Saturday on a flight from Page Field in Fort Myers, Florida, to Bimini in the Bahamas, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

She was flying to the Bahamas to pick up her parents when the trouble began about 15 miles west of Boca Raton. She initially planned to divert to Boca Raton Airport before the plane’s landing gear malfunctioned and its right engine failed.

As she approached the coast, Tenkley guided the disabled plane to the open stretch of water just offshore.

It's going to be Deshaun Watson as the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns to open the NFL regular season, which means one thing: Get your popcorn ready because this should be entertaining.

No, not entertaining in the typical star-player-doing-amazing-things kind of way.

Entertaining in the cinema drama kind of way because what we have here is the NFL equivalent of a villain being given the opportunity to redeem himself and then deciding – by his actions – if he continues to be reviled based on what happens next.

DESHAUN WATSON BOOED BY BROWNS FANS, FIRES BACK AFTER POOR OUTING OPENS DOOR FOR SHEDEUR SANDERS

What happened Sunday evening is Browns coach Todd Monken and general manager Andrew Berry picked Watson to be their starter over Shedeur Sanders, to culminate a competition that spanned the entire offseason and into the first two preseason games.

That decision was announced to the players on Monday morning.

And now we see the next chapter of what has been the tremendously disappointing story of Watson in Cleveland. It's a story that has compounded on-field failure, Personal Conduct Policy suspension, and one injury after another the last three years.

It's a story that seemed to have a climax on Saturday when Watson was booed lustily by Browns fans – at home at Huntington Bank Field – from the moment he entered the game in the second half pretty much until the game was over.

And then Watson conducted a viral press conference in which he called what Browns fans did "personal," and "disrespectful," making it seem possible that his time with the team was about to end because how does an NFL team keep a QB that gets booed at home?

Watson, indeed said, he would be playing "17 away games" if he won the starting job.

But these are the Browns, folks.

They do Browns things.

A source confirmed to OutKick the Browns did not take Watson's words into account when deciding on him as the starter.

They obviously also didn't take the booing into account.

They picked Watson over Sanders because, well, Watson is more experienced. He's more ready to face what NFL defenses will show the Browns once the season begins. A source said he was also slightly better than Sanders throughout the competition, the Saturday preseason meltdown notwithstanding.

Sanders, who had a higher completion percentage than Watson but threw one more interception, had better stay ready.

That was the coaching staff's message to the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.

Watson, you see, has been named the starter for the regular-season opener. But not for the season.

The Browns have made no guarantees to him if he plays poorly. If that happens, the team reserves the right to pivot to Sanders.

Watson has thrown 19 TD passes in his 19 games with the team, which is nowhere near what the Browns expected when they traded away six draft picks, including three first-rounders, to the Houston Texans, then signed him to a $230 million contract.

Watson has a chance to finally reward that investment to start the 2026 season. It's a small window of opportunity, but it beats the alternative for him, which was getting cut outright.

So we shall see what happens next starting with the Browns' regular-season opener, a road game at the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 13.
