ICE officer shoots, injures man during targeted immigration operation in Bronx: DHS

An ICE officer shot and injured a man during a targeted immigration enforcement operation in New York City on Thursday afternoon, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The shooting occurred around 4 p.m. in the Marble Hill neighborhood of the Bronx, where ICE officers were attempting to arrest a man from the Dominican Republic, according to a DHS spokesperson.

DHS said the man, an illegal alien, had a prior grand larceny conviction and previous arrests involving assault, robbery, drug possession and weapons possession. The agency also alleged that he had ties to the Trinitarios gang.

The agency said the man was arrested by the New York Police Department on Dec. 7, 2023, but was released several days later. DHS blamed New York City's sanctuary policies for his release.

During Thursday's operation, an ICE officer discharged a weapon, injuring the man, according to DHS. The agency did not specify what prompted the officer to open fire or how many shots were fired.

ICE officers immediately provided medical assistance, DHS said. The man survived and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani responded to the incident with a post on X, stating that he reached out to President Donald Trump.

Mamdani wrote that early reports indicated ICE agents allegedly surrounded the man and child inside a vehicle before firing. He said the child was believed to be physically unharmed. DHS has not confirmed those details.

"This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation," Mamdani wrote. "I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city."

Mamdani also called for ICE to be abolished and demanded that federal immigration agents leave New York City's neighborhoods, hospitals and streets.

The NYPD said its officers were not involved in the shooting and were not at the scene when it occurred.

An NYPD spokesperson told Fox News Digital by phone that DHS was investigating the incident and directed additional questions to federal authorities.

DHS subsequently confirmed that FBI and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) personnel were at the scene and that the incident remained under investigation.

DHS criticized local sanctuary policies, arguing that restrictions on cooperation with federal immigration authorities force ICE officers to conduct arrests in potentially dangerous circumstances.

"When dangerous illegal aliens are released back onto the streets by radical sanctuary politicians, our officers are forced to make arrests at large in the community in unpredictable and dangerous environments," the DHS spokesperson said.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said Thursday that she had been briefed on the shooting and called on federal authorities to provide a full account of what happened.

"We expect federal authorities to provide a full and transparent accounting of the circumstances surrounding this incident," Hochul wrote in a post on X. "New Yorkers deserve to know exactly what happened and why."

The circumstances that led the ICE officer to discharge a weapon remain unclear. DHS said additional information would be released as the investigation continues.

Two Latvian nationals legally living in the United Kingdom were arrested under Section 4 of Britain's National Security Act of 2023 on Thursday after breaching a perimeter fence at RAF Molesworth, a sensitive British military base housing critical U.S. and NATO intelligence operations, Reuters reported.

The arrests triggered a major counterterrorism investigation into the security breach at the strategic installation, which serves as a central intelligence hub supporting American military commanders across Europe and Africa.

The base is also undergoing a $556.5 million expansion centered on the Joint Intelligence Analysis Complex (JIAC), a facility designed to consolidate 20 intelligence facilities and accommodate more than 1,000 personnel, according to reports.

The suspects, ages 32 and 36, were discovered inside the base around 2 a.m. Thursday following an extensive security sweep.

Ministry of Defense Police officers conducting routine patrols first raised the alarm around 10 p.m. Wednesday after finding an abandoned vehicle near the perimeter.

Bomb disposal specialists cleared the vehicle before armed officers discovered a fence breach and located the men inside.

Initially detained on suspicion of trespass and criminal damage, both men were rearrested under the National Security Act for entering a prohibited place for a purpose prejudicial to the United Kingdom. They remain in custody as counterterrorism detectives execute search warrants at two residential properties in nearby Peterborough.

Managed by the U.S. Air Force's 423rd Air Base Group, RAF Molesworth is a nonflying installation dedicated to joint intelligence and command operations.

It houses intelligence elements for U.S. European Command, U.S. Africa Command and the NATO Intelligence Fusion Centre.

During World War II, the airfield was used by the U.S. 15th Bombardment Squadron. In 1973, the airfield was officially deactivated before transitioning into its current role as an intelligence center.

Construction on the JIAC broke ground April 12, 2024, with onsite work beginning that spring. The facility is scheduled for completion in summer 2028.

A 2024 Defense Department release described the base development as part of the department's overall European Infrastructure Consolidation efforts.

Among others, it will host members of the NATO Intelligence Fusion Centre, Battlefield Information Collection and Exploitation System, U.S. Africa Command, U.S. European Command and U.S. Air Force elements in a cross-agency, multi-mission collaboration."

At the time, Defense Intelligence Agency Deputy Director Suzanne White said the facility would enable "the U.S. and allies’ shared mission of ‘outpacing our strategic competitors and addressing threats together wherever they may arise.’"

The Defense Department designed the project with a two-stage procurement strategy, allowing stakeholder agencies to provide feedback and streamline scheduling requirements.

Following the intrusion, U.S. European Command praised the swift British response.

"While we assess the global security posture, U.S. forces remain at the highest state of readiness," the command said in a statement.

British counterterrorism officials cautioned against drawing premature conclusions about possible espionage or terrorist motives.

"We're very aware of the recent heightened interest and concern around military sites," Counterterrorism Policing London commander Helen Flanagan said.

Flanagan added that investigators have not established a connection between the Molesworth breach and recent security concerns at RAF Fairford, another British base used by U.S. strategic bombers.

A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., has heard evidence concerning possible false statements former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson made to the congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot, Fox News Digital has learned.

Additional evidence could be presented to the grand jury as soon as next week, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The proceedings remain in the grand jury phase, and no final decisions have been made about whether the matter will result in criminal charges, the source said.

Hutchinson, a former top aide to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, emerged as one of the most prominent witnesses before the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and President Donald Trump's efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 election.

During a nationally televised hearing in June 2022, Hutchinson provided testimony about Trump's actions on Jan. 6, including an account she said she heard from another White House official about the president's reaction after being told he could not travel to the Capitol.

Her account of an alleged confrontation inside the presidential vehicle was subsequently disputed by other individuals familiar with the events.

It remains unclear which portions of Hutchinson's congressional testimony are being examined by the grand jury.

Grand jury proceedings do not necessarily result in criminal charges, and the presentation of evidence does not establish that a crime occurred.

Before this dynamic duo parted ways, many believed the Lakers would be adding another Larry O’Brien Trophy to its storied trophy case, but that never came to fruition.

Dončić, though, believes last season it could’ve happened — if it weren’t for something he feels he’s at fault for.

On April 2, the Lakers owned a 16-2 record in a stretch where they looked unstoppable. They were facing the reigning NBA-champion Oklahoma City Thunder in a litmus test of sorts, especially for Dončić, who had been playing extremely well for the Lakers.

In fact, Dončić was playing for a potential MVP award.

However, the Thunder took the red-hot Lakers to the woodshed, defeating them 139-96. But that wasn’t the only loss the Lakers would have on the night.

Dončić said he felt a hamstring tweak in the second quarter, but instead of taking himself out in a game that was getting out of hand, he pushed even harder. The decision backfired.

In the second half, Dončić started to grab at his hamstring and was eventually taken out of the game. The result for pushing? A Grade 2 hamstring strain that didn’t just force him to miss the final five games of the season — he missed the entire postseason for Los Angeles.

"When it comes to my spirit of trying to win, I am just stubborn," Dončić told Sports Illustrated in an interview. " I felt a little bit in the first half that I should have just stopped. Dončić, for the first time since suffering his injury, admitted he wishes to have done things differently. Of course, hindsight is always 20-20, but perhaps Dončić didn’t even know it would be his last chance to get a ring alongside James had they been healthy together in the postseason.

James, who had been the third offensive option on the Lakers when everyone was healthy, with Austin Reaves playing well on that side of the court, had to find a different gear in the playoffs with Dončić out. He was able to lead the way past the Houston Rockets, but the Thunder were too much for Los Angeles again in the second round.

Republican Mike Rogers and Democrat Abdul El-Sayed traded personal attacks and accusations during a heated Michigan U.S. Senate debate Thursday night, clashing over everything from affordability, the war in Iran and U.S. support for Israel to their respective financial dealings and personal backgrounds.

The contentious showdown in Grand Rapids marked the first time the two candidates faced off onstage ahead of November's closely watched election after Rogers declined to participate in a debate last month hosted by FOX 2 Detroit, citing concerns about the moderator's impartiality.

At the top of Thursday's debate, what began as a discussion about affordability quickly devolved into personal attacks, with Rogers repeatedly questioning El-Sayed's medical credentials and accusing him of misleading voters. El-Sayed accused the former congressman of enriching himself through corporate connections.

"He's lying. So, he lied about being a physician. He lied now about being an Egyptian citizen or not being an Egyptian citizen," Rogers charged during one particularly heated exchange. "That's a con man."

Rogers, who denied owning any yachts, countered by questioning El-Sayed's investments and alleged overseas property holdings in the UAE, while also slamming him for accepting money from billionaires despite simultaneously stumping on not taking money from corporate PACs and getting money out of politics.

The personal accusations remained constant throughout much of Thursday night's debate, but one of the evening's sharpest policy disagreements emerged over Israel and Iran.

Asked whether he would support providing defensive weapons to Israel if the country were attacked by Iran or another state actor, El-Sayed indicated he would not and reiterated his opposition to using American taxpayer dollars to fund foreign militaries.

"I don't want our tax dollars buying weapons for other countries. I don't know what's so hard about that," El-Sayed said.

Rogers argued that Iran's nuclear capabilities had been significantly diminished and said the war should end, while maintaining that Iran could not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.

On domestic policy, El-Sayed expressed openness to federal price controls on domestically produced oil, arguing that high gasoline prices constituted an emergency.

"Look, I definitely think that's something we should consider," El-Sayed said.

Johnnie "DJ" Jones, a freshman offensive lineman for the Missouri Tigers, is recovering after undergoing a heart transplant, coach Eli Drinkwitz announced Thursday.

In a social media post, Drinkwitz provided a positive health update, saying Jones' surgery went well and Jones was recovering.

"We are incredibly grateful for the medical team who cared for DJ and for the donor and donor family whose extraordinary gift made this possible," the seventh-year Tigers coach wrote.

Jones had been hospitalized at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, while awaiting a transplant, Drinkwitz said during a news conference Tuesday.

The team’s medical staff sought a second opinion with the Mayo Clinic when they weren’t getting a resolution or answers after two weeks of observation.

Arizona man arrested after allegedly emailing White House bomb threat to Tucson news station

An Arizona man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly sending an email threatening to carry out bombings at the White House and other locations in Washington, D.C., federal officials said.

Jacob Aaron Hicks, 46, of Tucson, was charged with making an interstate threat to injure, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Arizona announced.

According to a criminal complaint, Hicks allegedly emailed a local Tucson television station Sept. 23, claiming there would be an "imminent bomb strike against the White House and other locations in Washington, D.C."

After receiving the email, the station alerted law enforcement, prompting an investigation into the threat.

Authorities said they later identified Hicks as the alleged sender of the email.

"We must take threats of violence like this one seriously," U.S. Attorney Timothy Courchaine said in a statement.

"I am grateful to our local news station for referring this threat to law enforcement and to the FBI for addressing the situation quickly, professionally and with the level of commitment it required."

According to federal officials, investigators also discovered additional email drafts in the account linked to Hicks.

Officials said the drafts, also dated Sept. 23, were addressed to other news organizations and contained similar threats involving the White House and other locations in Washington, D.C.

The FBI is leading the investigation with assistance from the U.S. Secret Service.

FBI Phoenix Special Agent in Charge Rebecca Day credited the news station for alerting authorities to the threat.

"We appreciate the community partner who reported the threat to law enforcement. Cooperation and partnership are essential to protecting the American people," Day said.

Logan Federico’s dad says criminals have become 'more important' than victims, pushes repeat offender registry

The father of Logan Federico, a 22-year-old college student murdered during a home break-in, is demanding federal lawmakers close legal loopholes that allow career criminals back on the street.

Stephen Federico is championing "Logan’s Law," a legislative proposal that would mandate a public database for repeat violent offenders, force cross-county and interstate communication and hold prosecutors accountable when handling habitual criminals.

The bill aims to eliminate systemic blind spots that allowed Logan's accused killer, Alexander Dickey, to avoid long-term confinement despite a lengthy record.

Blanche expressed hope for bipartisan support, adding, "I don't think it's a controversial issue. ... I know President Trump supports it."

Logan Federico, a North Carolina college student, was staying with friends at a South Carolina home on May 3, 2025, when Dickey allegedly broke in.

According to Columbia police, Dickey drove a stolen vehicle into the neighborhood, broke into one home to steal vehicle keys and a gun and then forced his way into the house where Federico was staying.

Inside, Dickey allegedly stole credit cards and fatally shot Federico. Her father noted that she was awake during the intrusion.

"He didn't kill our daughter for a debit card," Federico said. "She was the only one awake who could identify him. He killed a witness."

Dickey had an extensive criminal record dating back to 2013, including convictions for breaking and entering, burglary, grand larceny, strong-arm robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest. Critics and authorities argue he slipped through the cracks of a lenient justice system.

Guinness brewery that welcomed 2 million visitors closing its doors for good

The Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Halethorpe, Maryland, just outside Baltimore, will soon close, leaving the iconic Irish beer brand's Chicago brewery as its only U.S. location.

Nov. 1 will mark the brewery's final day open to the public, leaving 174 Aramark employees out of work, according to a notice filed with the Maryland Department of Labor Oct. 1.

The move comes amid a $1 billion restructuring plan at Diageo, Guinness' parent company.

Some teams at Diageo are losing 20% to 30% of their staff, Reuters reported in July.

"It is not a reflection of the passion, talent or dedication of our team, nor of the support we have received from consumers and the Baltimore community since we opened our doors in 2018."

Since opening in 2018, the Guinness Open Gate Brewery has welcomed more than 2 million visitors, according to a post on its Facebook page.

The brewery was the first to open in the U.S. since the Irish beer maker's previous brewery in New York closed in 1954, FOX Business reported at the time.

"It's obviously a shame to see the Guinness brewery close in Maryland," said Derek Brown of Drink Company, a Washington, D.C.-based hospitality consulting and events company.

"However, I'm not surprised in the sense that their core product remains Guinness, and now Guinness Zero," Brown told Fox News Digital. "The brewery focused on experimental products, which are interesting in themselves, but not necessarily primary drivers of Guinness' business."

The experimental portion of the brewery allowed guests to concoct their own brews, and more than 700 beers were created over the years, according to the brewery's Facebook post.

But changing trends in alcohol consumption likely played a role in the decision, industry experts say.

The Indiana Fever's regular-season games on major broadcast networks averaged more than twice the audience of the WNBA semifinal openers on Oct. 4.

And those playoff games were on ABC and NBC.

An OutKick review of Indiana's 10 regular-season games on ABC, CBS and NBC found an average audience of approximately 2.32 million viewers. The two semifinal openers averaged about 1.16 million.

That gave Indiana an average audience approximately 100% larger, a difference of nearly 1.16 million viewers per game.

New York–Atlanta's Game 1 averaged 1.2 million viewers on ABC, ESPN told OutKick. Las Vegas–Golden State averaged 1.12 million on NBC and Peacock, according to figures NBC supplied to OutKick.

Just one Sunday earlier, Indiana's first-round opener against Las Vegas averaged 2.11 million viewers on ABC. That Sept. 27 game also aired opposite the NFL, yet drew approximately 76% more viewers than New York–Atlanta's semifinal opener on the same network a week later.

The stakes went up, but the audience went down.

That's a pretty good answer to anyone still wondering how much Caitlin Clark means to the WNBA's television business.

Even Indiana's smallest major-network audience was bigger

The 2.32 million average covers four Fever games on ABC, four on CBS and two on NBC, using reported audiences from the regular season. The NBC figures include Peacock, just as the Aces–Valkyries playoff figure does.

Seven of those 10 Fever games exceeded two million viewers. Every one of the 10 drew a larger audience than either semifinal opener.

The smallest was Indiana's May 30 game at Portland on CBS, which Sports Media Watch reported at nearly 1.3 million. Clark had one of her worst games of the season, scoring just 6 points on 1-for-7 shooting, and the Fever trailed by as many as 26 points.

Think about that, though. A regular-season game against Portland in May, where Clark played just 22 minutes in a blowout loss, drew more viewers than either game to open the WNBA semifinals in October.

WNBA WANTS A BIGGER STORY THAN CAITLIN CLARK, BUT TV RATINGS KEEP POINTING BACK TO HER

At the other end, Indiana's Aug. 23 game against Chicago averaged 3.31 million viewers on NBC and Peacock. Its July 12 game against Las Vegas drew 2.64 million on those same platforms.

New York offers another useful comparison. The Liberty's two regular-season meetings with Indiana on CBS each drew over 2.5 million viewers. Sunday's Liberty–Dream semifinal opener drew 1.2 million on ABC.

Angel Reese, who now plays for Atlanta, famously insisted in 2024 that people watch women's basketball "because of me too."

Well, New York facing Clark's Fever in the regular season drew more than twice the audience of New York facing Reese's Dream in the final four. The numbers show that Reese isn't much of a television draw, as Dream playoff games are right in line with the other non-Clark games and, in some cases, actually worse.

Atlanta's first-round clincher averaged 1.2 million viewers on ESPN, below the 1.4 million for Dallas–Golden State on the same network that night.

WNBA semifinal numbers are strong, but Fever numbers are stronger

This isn't to say that this is bad news for the WNBA because it isn't. Before Clark arrived in 2024, the league hadn't had a game average one million viewers since 2008. Consistently clearing that mark represents real progress.

Plus, the two semifinal openers averaged around 10% more viewers than last year's pair. Sports Media Watch ranked them second and third among semifinal Game 1 audiences since the league adopted its current semifinal format in 2016.

The only opener ahead of them? Last year's Fever–Aces game, which drew 1.4 million on ABC even with Clark sidelined by injury.

That's encouraging for the league, and another reminder of the audience Indiana has built. Even during this year's regular season, the Fever drew 1.57 million against Los Angeles on CBS on June 27 without Clark playing.

There is an audience for the Fever beyond simply checking whether Clark is in uniform that day. The WNBA would benefit enormously from building that kind of interest around more of its teams.

As I reported earlier this week, even Indiana's least-watched first-round game, its 1.42 million-viewer appearance on Prime Video, outdrew every non-Fever first-round game. That streaming-exclusive audience also exceeded both semifinal openers on broadcast television.

Fans found the Fever wherever their games aired. The remaining teams now have the opportunity to give those viewers a reason to keep watching.

I'll be interested to see whether the audiences build as the series progress.

For now, though, the remaining teams are trying to match numbers the Fever were putting up in May.

Tyreek Hill denies most abuse claims but admits to shoving wife into wall in explosive testimony

Free agent NFL wide receiver Tyreek Hill took the witness stand in his divorce and battery civil case in Miami on Thursday, and it was as explosive as his speed and play-making ability on the field.

…Claimed his 18-month marriage to Lakeeta Vaccaro Hill was punctuated by arguments about her refusal to sign a post-nuptial agreement, her stealing between $60,000-$100,000 a month from a family account, her insistence his family leave their sprawling Broward County estate, and occasionally him flirting with other women.

TYREEK HILL'S NFL RETURN SEEMED IMMINENT AND THEN HIS DIVORCE TRIAL BEGAN WITH DOMESTIC ABUSE ALLEGATIONS

Hill, 32, denied he ever punched Vaccaro's stomach while she was pregnant, twisted her breasts, pulled out her hair, shoved a lit blunt into her face, or left her on the side of a road – which Vaccaro claimed on the witness stand earlier this week.

But Hill did admit to throwing Vaccaro up against a wall of their Sunny Isle, Florida condo, creating a hole in the structure. He did admit to threatening her by saying he knew people who could hurt her.

And he did apologize for cursing out both Vaccaro and her mother – a rant that is on tape.

That's not all.

Hill accused Vaccaro of indirectly being responsible for causing the fire that burned down their home in Broward County. And he also accused her of causing him to play worse once they got married because of the constant fighting.

"I felt like If you look at my career before and my career after I got married it was, like, trending down," he testified. "And it was, like, bad. I was like, man, am I really putting this product on the field? Do I really look that bad? It was hard."

Hill's testimony wrapped up at 5:41 p.m. but he is scheduled back on the witness stand on Friday because Thursday's session was all direct testimony. Vaccaro's attorney will have a chance for redirect on Friday.

So, a lot to unpack here.

Hill and Vaccaro were married in November 2021, but there was no prenuptial or post-nuptial agreement. And that became one of the pillars of their constant fighting during the 18-month marriage.

"Obviously, the postnup is definitely one of the constant arguments and then finances," Hill said. "I think that's a very important topic that has to be explored through this whole entire thing.

"Then money getting stolen, and the mother of my kids. I would literally have conversations with the mothers of my [other] kids and she would be, 'You're doing, X, Y, Z with them. You're being intimate with them.

"Those were the primary arguments."

Hill admitted he and Vaccaro discussed the postnuptial seemingly countless times. And often those ended in arguments. Hill accused Vaccaro of marrying him because of her interest in his money.

It began with Vaccaro taking $10,000 one time before their marriage. And then, he testified, the sums got larger after the marriage.

"I was like, babe, why you stealing money?" Hill testified. "All you have to do is say, 'help me out.' She stole money then. She stole money during the marriage while getting what she was already getting, which she was getting $15K.

"Then she was taking around $60K a month and I would see that and it'd be, 'You're giving this person this and that person that.'"

Hill also said Vaccaro's monthly take at one point was $100,000 in one month.

He also testified that Vaccaro didn't like his family around their baby girl. But when the couple's home burned, and they moved to the swank Porsche Design Tower in Miami, she moved her mom in.

"It was one of those where I said have your mom come down for a little bit to help you out at the beginning of the pregnancy," Hill said. "I didn't know she was going to come down and stay for two years."

The couple split but agreed to get counseling. During one of those sessions, Hill said, both agreed many of their conversations "were getting out of hand."

That included allegations by Vaccaro that Hill was physically abusive on at least eight different times. Hill denied all those happened except one time he came home to pack clothes and leave.

"As I'm getting my clothes, I feel somebody brush up behind me," Hill said. "And that person brushing up behind me is my wife, and I'm like, hold on, hold on ... That continued for like five minutes.

"I told her don't you ever touch me again in your life. I pushed her against the wall. And I tried to force her to get off me. I created a hole in the wall, trying to force her to get off me that night."

Hill testified that despite pushing his wife into a wall, he and her "got physically intimate that night." But later he had remorse and decided he definitely wanted a divorce.

"I didn't want to be that in front of my daughter," he said. "I felt embarrassed, you know what I'm saying?"

Hill also testified about a fateful car ride home in May 2024 in which Vaccaro claims he shoved her into a car door, threw her shoe out of the car and drank.

Hill admitted to drinking socially. And he also admitted he warned his wife about what might happen to her if he wanted to hurt her.

"I did, I did make statements about she wasn't safe," Hill said. "I did make statements about me being able to get people to hurt her. Like now, looking back, I wish I could have handled that situation better.

"I wish I could have talked to my wife better. I wish I could take it all back."

Hill also testified that his grandmother and sister "wanted to do some things to [Vaccaro] but knew she was, in Hill's words, "the love of my life."

Pennsylvania school district unveils plans for gender-neutral ‘universal toilet rooms’

A Pennsylvania high school is planning to build gender-neutral bathroom facilities as part of a massive renovation project estimated to cost approximately $76 million, according to architectural plans presented to the local school board.

The Wallingford-Swarthmore School District's Sept. 15 schematic design presentation for Strath Haven High School includes plans for "universal toilet rooms" on multiple floors of the building, along with a rendering showing individual bathroom stalls and a shared sink area.

The proposed bathroom overhaul is part of a broader renovation that includes new science classrooms, infrastructure improvements and expanded academic space.

The district's own student newspaper, The Panther Press, reported that the project would replace existing gendered bathrooms with larger universal facilities on each floor.

Architectural plans presented to the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District in September show proposed "universal toilet rooms" on all four floors of Strath Haven High School as part of a $76 million renovation proposal.

"The plan also includes a complete reconstruction of the building’s bathrooms," the Panther Press reported Sept. 29. "In place of the current gendered bathrooms, the plan proposes to create a new and larger universal gender-neutral bathroom on each floor. The model also includes a separate faculty toilet only accessible from the hallway."

The student newspaper reported that the architect for the plan, Mike Kelly of Kelly Clough Baker and Associates, said that the new bathrooms would allow cameras inside while the stalls are designed to be completely walled off and hidden from the cameras.

The outlet reported that Kelly said this would assist the administration’s control of the bathrooms and address loitering in the bathroom.

"As has been the case in a growing number of middle and high schools, this design was selected to enhance student privacy, safety and supervision," the spokesperson said.

"Each student will have access to an acoustically separated, fully enclosed private toilet room, providing a level of privacy that exceeds what is available in a traditional school restroom configuration. The Wallingford-Swarthmore Board of School Directors recently approved the schematic design as part of the Strath Haven High School renovation project.

The spokesperson added that some traditional restroom layouts in the existing school will remain, and the Board of School Directors approved a project budget capped at $70 million, with most of the funding dedicated to upgrading and renovating the existing school’s infrastructure.

Anti-Zuckerberg movie 'The Social Reckoning' takes critical heat on both sides of political aisle

"The Social Reckoning," the follow-up to the 2010 hit "The Social Network," is facing blistering critiques from both sides of the political spectrum alongside lukewarm reviews from critics, with some reviewers sharply criticizing the film's political messaging and its handling of Facebook's role in American politics.

"The Social Network" focused on the creation of Facebook and the legal battle over its ownership, earning three Oscars, including for screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, and a 96% positive rating on review-aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes.

It's more political follow-up, "The Social Reckoning," written and directed by Sorkin, has received a more mixed response, with a 61% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes as of Thursday evening.

Earlier this year, a trailer debuted showing Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg (played by Jeremy Strong) being questioned by a character played by comedian Bill Burr. Sorkin published an open letter in 2019 criticizing Zuckerberg’s management of the platform.

OutKick writer Ian Miller was one of several conservative critics who mocked the trailer as tone-deaf, replying, "It is the most Hollywood thing ever to desperately try and convince everyone that the guy making complete sense is the bad guy and the one demanding authoritarian ideological enforcement is the good guy."

Film critics were also sharply critical. The Globe and Mail film critic Barry Hertz tweeted that the film was "one of the most insipid, ugly, flat films of the year — an insufferably sanctimonious fantasia of blue-state Boomers."

In his actual review, he argued that the movie is counterproductive in that it "will turn even the most hardcore Facebook hater into a true-blue Facebook believer — the film is just that magnificently, unbelievably, despicably bad."

Variety said it badly missed the original's director David Fincher and "already feels behind the curve," while Wired magazine’s review described the new film as one that "already feels irrelevant."

Wired noted that the movie opens with the DUI arrest of a woman who directs racist, right-wing insults at police officers and is arrested for threatening to kill one of them. When the video goes viral, a Facebook whistleblower recognizes the woman as a former liberal acquaintance from her Pilates class.

The film's climax, as noted by Wired, is the Jan. 6, 2021, capitol riot, "the horrors of which are blamed in part on Facebook’s failure to either get a handle on election fraud conspiracy theories or remove Donald Trump’s account as he stoked such inflammatory falsehoods."

"Now, halfway into Trump’s second term, is it all that much of a revelation that he and his movement are emboldened by the complicity of tech oligarchs, who openly backed him in 2024?" the outlet asked.

Journalist and film critic Stephen Silver described the movie as "an old-man-yells-at-cloud treatment of Facebook." Silver wrote that Sorkin essentially argues Facebook was not censorious enough in the 2010s and that the government should now step in by reforming Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, a federal law that generally shields online platforms from liability for content posted by users.

"No, I don’t buy that Facebook is primarily responsible for American political extremism, or for January 6," Silver wrote, arguing that individuals remain responsible for their own actions online.

SFGate's Lindsey Bahr wrote that while certain political aspects hit the mark, the movie falls far short of its predecessor: "It is unfortunate for ‘The Social Reckoning’ that ‘The Social Network’ exists."

IndieWire was even harsher, panning its script and performances.

The BBC's reviewer gave it two out of five stars, calling it unlikely to influence anyone, while The Guardian in a mixed review dismissed it as a "film which doesn’t reckon with the future we’re living in."

Even some reviews rated as positive on Rotten Tomatoes were tepid in their assessments. A review from The Seattle Times said it moved "snappily" but was still a "pale imitation" of "The Social Network."

Media Research Center President David Bozell commented on the film's political messaging to Fox News Digital.

"It says everything you need to know about Aaron Sorkin and the Hollywood elite that they would make a movie suggesting Big Tech’s real failure was not censoring conservatives enough," Bozell said.

"The Media Research Center spent years exposing how Facebook suppressed conservative voices, and we were right to do it," he continued. "Mark Zuckerberg eventually acknowledged Meta’s past censorship abuses and took meaningful steps to move the company back toward a more open platform. Meta is far from perfect, but Zuckerberg deserves some credit for redirecting it away from the censorship monster it had become.

"Hollywood seems determined to fight yesterday’s battle even as Zuckerberg has moved on from it," Bozell added. "Americans have had enough of government-imposed censorship, ideological gatekeeping and Big Tech deciding which political views they are allowed to hear."

The death of an 87-year-old woman who was evicted from her longtime home has intensified a political crisis in Spain, where nationwide protests over soaring housing costs have helped force an early election.

María del Carmen Abascal, known as "Maricarmen," died Wednesday after being hospitalized following her eviction from a Madrid apartment where she had lived for seven decades, according to The Associated Press.

Her death came just days after Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called a snap election for Nov. 29 after his government's failure to pass emergency housing measures through Parliament.

The controversy has put renewed pressure on Sánchez's Socialist Party as Spain grapples with widespread frustration over rising rents and housing affordability.

The real estate company responsible for her eviction had sought to lease the apartment at a substantially higher price, according to the AP.

Protesters also chanted, "Maricarmen lives, the fight goes on!"

Sánchez offered condolences in a statement on X.

"No campaign, no party, no use for political advantage," he wrote. "When faced with the death of a person, we must only show respect."

Abascal's eviction and death have become a rallying point for housing activists demanding changes to Spain's rental policies as the country prepares for its November election.

OK, this is the official "Dan Z.'s Plug Your Nose and Hit 'Place Bet' Bet of the Week." I know I promised to workshop the title and come up with something better, but I'm busy so deal with it. The Eagles have been inconsistent all year and are honestly lucky to even be 2-2. Meanwhile, the Jags have looked dominant. So why in the world would I back the Eagles? Because the second you're sure of something in the NFL (the Eagles stink and the Jaguars are Super Bowl contenders is the common refrain this week), that's when you know you're about to be proven wrong.

GPT’s analysis:

Getting more than a touchdown in a neutral-site game is the strongest argument for Philadelphia. Jacksonville’s defense just allowed Joe Burrow to throw for 428 yards, giving Jalen Hurts a route to keeping this competitive. My concern is Philadelphia’s depleted offense: Lane Johnson has retired, Cam Jurgens was traded, and Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith missed practice again Thursday with hamstring injuries. At +7½, a seven-point loss still cashes, but those personnel questions kept the Eagles outside my five.

2. Minnesota Vikings-New Orleans Saints Over 42 (-107)

Minnesota Vikings at New Orleans Saints, Sunday at 1 p.m. ET

Dan’s analysis:

This is a confusing line. The Saints just allowed 45 points against the Falcons while scoring 24. New Orleans has scored at least 24 points in all four games this season. Yes, the Vikings defense is good. But it's also benefited from a weak schedule and one game played in a monsoon.

Minnesota only managed 15 points against the Dolphins last week, but that's a bit misleading. They couldn't score in the red zone, but that’s largely because they were missing Justin Jefferson and he's expected to play this week. Plus, T.J. Hockenson could have scored a late TD, but slid just outside the end zone so the Vikings could kneel down and end the game. I also expect Kevin O'Connell to have a game plan ready to attack this very vulnerable Saints defense.

GPT’s analysis:

New Orleans’s defense allows five yards per rush, giving Minnesota a favorable opportunity to improve its scoring. Tyler Shough has nine touchdown passes and returned to full practice Thursday, while Jefferson expects to play for Minnesota. Those developments strengthen your over case. My hesitation remains the Vikings’ strong defense, limited offensive production and Christian Darrisaw’s uncertain availability. The Saints can contribute points, but Minnesota could still turn this into a defensive game. I see the argument, but passed on over 42.

3. Las Vegas Raiders-New England Patriots Under 45 (-109)

Las Vegas Raiders at New England Patriots, Sunday at 1 p.m. ET

Dan’s analysis:

As I have mentioned most weeks, my general NFL betting philosophy is to fade what we saw most recently. The Las Vegas offense has looked explosive through four weeks, especially since Brock Bowers returned. But this is still a team quarterbacked by Kirk Cousins and due for a letdown, especially in an early-afternoon game multiple time zones over.

The Patriots offense has struggled most of the year so far but, aside from a 35-point disaster against Jacksonville, the defense has been elite. They held the Seahawks to 13 points, the Steelers to 3 points and the Bills to 26. Sure, 26 points is a lot, but the Raiders aren't the Bills and that's the only New England game this season that went over 45 points.

GPT’s analysis:

Las Vegas’s pass rush and struggling running game give this under a credible foundation. Pressure on Drake Maye could stall New England’s drives, while the Raiders may struggle to generate consistent production on the ground. My concern is Kirk Cousins’s 11 touchdown passes against a Patriots secondary dealing with injuries to Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis. Maye’s improvement against Buffalo also raises New England’s scoring ceiling. I prefer Raiders +3½, which can cash in either a defensive game or a shootout.

4. Denver Broncos-Los Angeles Chargers Under 42 (-108)

Denver Broncos at Los Angeles Chargers, Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET

Dan’s analysis:

Where are the points going to come from? The completely broken Chargers offense? The offense led by Bo Nix? I just don't see it. The Chargers defense hasn't been the problem and it has actually been a solid unit this year that has been let down by the offense. The Denver defense isn't as good as last year, but it's still a pretty solid group. In this divisional clash, I see it being very low-scoring where both teams look to control time of possession.

GPT’s analysis:

Denver’s offensive struggles and the Chargers’ protection problems make your under understandable. Both Los Angeles starting tackles missed Wednesday’s practice, and Ladd McConkey is also managing an injury. Those concerns could make sustained touchdown drives difficult. The opposing argument is Denver’s secondary: Pat Surtain II and Riley Moss missed practice again Thursday, potentially improving Justin Herbert’s matchup. Defensive injuries on both sides and turnover-created short fields kept this outside my five, although I lean under rather than over.

5. Seattle Seahawks -3 (-110)

San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks, Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET

Dan’s analysis:

This line is BEGGING for people to jump on San Francisco. After all, I just declared the 49ers the best team in the NFL. So why would I take the Seahawks? Because when Vegas wants you to do something, you should do the opposite. My hunch is that the public is going to hammer San Francisco as an underdog, so this is a simple zig when they zag play.

GPT’s analysis:

Seattle’s defense and home field give your pick a solid foundation, especially with San Francisco dealing with defensive injuries. The Seahawks allow just 3.9 yards per play, so this is a serious test for Brock Purdy. My disagreement comes from San Francisco’s offensive efficiency: 6.6 yards per play and a 57.5% third-down conversion rate. Seattle’s own third-down struggles also make separation less convincing. A three-point win only pushes your bet; I prefer San Francisco +3 at -102.

I prefer that cushion to trusting the Cowboys’ defense to create separation.

That being said... I actually don't hate this number and I considered backing the Bucs again. Why? I love pain, I guess?

2. Chicago Bears-Green Bay Packers Under 46 (-110)

Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers, Sunday at 1 p.m. ET

GPT’s analysis:

Green Bay converts just 26.1% of third downs, while Chicago allows opponents to convert only 23.7%. The Packers also struggle to run, making sustained scoring drives difficult against this defense. Chicago averages 39.8 rushing attempts per game, giving the Bears a way to consume time and limit possessions. Green Bay’s vulnerable run defense could allow Chicago to score efficiently, but the matchup still favors the under. A combined 45 points wins this bet, while 46 produces a push.

Dan’s analysis:

This is an interesting one. I generally like the idea of going with the under in divisional matchups, so I feel like GPT is taking a page out of my own book here. I also think this play makes a lot of sense. The Bears have a messy QB situation but the defense has been mostly good. The Packers haven't lit up the scoreboard through four weeks, either. I think I like this bet, too.

3. Las Vegas Raiders +3½ (-104)

Las Vegas Raiders at New England Patriots, Sunday at 1 p.m. ET

GPT’s analysis:

Kirk Cousins has 11 touchdown passes against four interceptions, while Drake Maye has four touchdown passes and seven interceptions. Maye’s improvement against Buffalo matters, but Las Vegas’s pass rush can challenge him and prevent New England from building a comfortable lead. The Raiders’ weak running game and early East Coast start are concerns. Getting more than a field goal at -104 is the attraction: a three-point Patriots victory still pays this ticket. I prefer that protection to the Raiders’ moneyline.

Dan’s analysis:

This one I don't love. It feels like the books WANT people to back the Raiders, who are 3-1 and came very close to upsetting the Chiefs last week. New England beat Buffalo so the public isn't exactly fading the Patriots, but this still feels like a bit of a trap line to me.

4. San Francisco 49ers +3 (-102)

San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks, Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET

GPT’s analysis:

San Francisco averages 6.6 yards per play and converts 57.5% of third downs, giving the 49ers multiple ways to sustain drives. Seattle’s defense is the strongest opposing argument, allowing just 3.9 yards per play. However, the Seahawks’ own third-down struggles make a comfortable victory less convincing. San Francisco’s defensive injuries are a concern, but I expect its offense to keep this competitive. At -102, +3 protects against a narrow defeat and pushes on a three-point Seattle win.

Well, this is the bet where GPT and I go directly head-to-head. I won the first round in Week 3, but GPT got me twice in Week 4. I guess that means pray for me on this one.

The Rams allow just 4.0 yards per play and a 33.3% third-down conversion rate, giving them a credible way to slow Buffalo’s scoring. Both offenses have enough talent to threaten this under, and improved Rams finishing is the main risk. Still, 54.5 leaves room for a 30–24 game to cash. At -102, the defensive matchup and scoring threshold make this my fifth selection.

I like this one a lot. A primetime game between two teams with explosive offenses screams "UNDER" because the public loves betting overs, particularly in island games. I kinda really like GPT's card this week (well except the two I said I don't like).

Columbia University faces backlash over serving 'October 7th blush sauce' on campus menu

Columbia University faced backlash after a campus dining menu appeared to advertise "October 7th Blush Sauce" on the third anniversary of the deadly Hamas terror attacks Wednesday.

The menu was publicized by Israeli newspaper Haaretz correspondent Simone Saidmehr, who shared an image of it, which placed "October 7th" next to "Blush Sauce." Many comments took the image as a reference to the approximately 1,200 victims of the terror attacks.

However, in a comment to Fox News Digital, Vicki Dunn, assistant vice president of Columbia Dining, insisted the menu printing was an "unfortunate mistake" and was corrected shortly after it was discovered.

"Moving forward, Columbia Dining will also have a team member review all menus before they are posted," she added.

Hasan, a former Army major, killed 13 people and wounded 32 others when he opened fire on unarmed soldiers and civilians after shouting "Allahu Akbar" at Fort Hood on Nov. 5, 2009. He was convicted in 2013 and sentenced to death for the massacre.

President Donald Trump approved the use of an Army firing squad, following War Secretary Pete Hegseth's recommendation. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell previously announced the decision on X, declaring, "Judgment day for Hasan has finally come."

If carried out, Hasan's execution would be the first by the U.S. military since 1961 and the first military execution by firing squad since 1945. Hasan remains on military death row at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

Will Major League Baseball still lock players out after 2026 postseason proves owners wrong?

Despite a number of fascinating storylines, much of the discussion during the 2026 Major League Baseball regular season was dominated by upcoming labor negotiations with the expiration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement in December.

The league office, essentially run by the 30 current owners, started an advertising and promotional campaign designed to inflame tensions and increase support for its proposed salary cap. As early as June, the league's official account made several posts telling fans how awful baseball is, while claiming that many fanbases have no "hope" of winning a World Series because of payroll disparities.

"The biggest issue baseball fans want solved to strengthen the game is fixing the payroll disparity that leaves too many fans without hope of their team competing for a World Series title," the first post said. "Every other major U.S. sport has tackled this problem, and every year more small market teams in those leagues have a chance to win. The salary cap and floor proposal levels the playing field, allowing us greater flexibility to address longstanding player priorities while sharing baseball revenue with the players 50/50."

This was, of course, misleading; many teams get ancillary income that would not be included in the "50/50" split. And if the proposed floor would be achievable for the small market teams in 2027, it raises the question of why it wasn't in 2026. Even increased revenue sharing wouldn't come close to bridging the gap for most small market teams.

Regardless though, that "hope" section, again posted in June, has taken a major, major blow by the results in the postseason. Because it turns out that while spending helps, it doesn't guarantee results.

With the Dodgers, Brewers, and Tampa Bay Rays advancing to their respective league championship series on Wednesday, three of the four spots in the penultimate postseason round have been determined. The last spot will go to one of the Chicago White Sox or Cleveland Guardians. Five teams, out of 30, are left standing. Here's where they rank in pre-luxury tax player payroll in 2026, per Cot's Contracts:

The Dodgers are favorites to win the World Series, but as we've seen from years of experience, the favored team doesn't always win. And the Brewers will not be able to line up Jacob Misiorowski for two starts in the NLCS, including in Game 1 at American Family Field. Even if they do make it through the NLCS and the World Series, does the league really believe the message of "you have no hope" will resonate when four of the final five teams are in the bottom 11 in player payroll? These outcomes raise another key point; did Rays or White Sox fans realistically enter the season with "hope" of winning a World Series? Of course not. Chicago's just two seasons removed from one of the worst years in baseball history. The Rays did little this offseason to give fans reason for optimism. Yet here they are, favorites to advance through the American League for the second time in the past six years.

Milwaukee fans might have lost hope when the front office traded Freddy Peralta to the Mets in the offseason...only for the Brewers to have an even better record in 2026, the best win-loss and run differential in the sport. With the 19th highest payroll.

Point being, "hope" doesn't always relate to success. Mets fans started 2026 with "hope" after getting Peralta, Marcus Semien, Bo Bichette and Devin Williams. How'd that go? Yankees fans had hope with the exciting debut of Cam Schlittler in 2025, bringing back Cody Bellinger, and top prospects like Spencer Jones and George Lombard Jr., reaching the big leagues. Their reward? A sweep from the Rays.

First, 22 of the 30 teams have reached the LCS since 2010, and if the White Sox advance with their 2-1 series lead, that'll grow to 23 of 30. Most small market teams have reached the LCS, many multiple times. Yes, the Dodgers have dominated, but the Mets have the same number of LCS appearances as Cleveland, Kansas City, and Tampa Bay. The Tigers have made it three times, as many as the Cubs or Red Sox. Should Cleveland advance, they'd join the list of teams with three appearances. Meanwhile, the huge market Los Angeles Angels haven't even reached the playoffs in the past decade.

Again, money absolutely matters. It clearly helps, the Dodgers are proof of that. But there are no guarantees in baseball, and LA's dominance is a testament to using their resources wisely. Obviously though, there's plenty of reason for hope for the vast majority of organizations, despite what the league's propaganda would lead you to believe.

Intruder breaches airport security, takes stolen tarmac vehicle on reckless rampage

A traveler's reckless rampage with an airport tug created mayhem at a California airport Oct. 6.

Video from John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana shows a man behind the wheel of an airport tug on Tuesday, dangerously maneuvering around the airfield and, at one point, even reversing near a plane, according to Storyful.

Authorities identified the man as a 26-year-old from Everett, Washington. He had been scheduled to travel from John Wayne Airport to Seattle aboard a Delta Air Lines flight, according to FOX 59.

The incident began around 5:30 p.m., when the man allegedly gained access to the airfield through Gate 12, the outlet reported.

A Delta spokesperson told Fox News Digital the airline was cooperating with law enforcement after the unusual incident.

"Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful behavior, and we take all incidents seriously," a spokesperson said.

"Nothing is more important than the safety and security of our customers and people, and we are cooperating fully with law enforcement."

After reaching the tarmac, the individual allegedly took an Alaska Airlines tug, one of the ground vehicles used around airports to move baggage and equipment, as FOX 59 reported.

Video footage shows the man driving the vehicle around the airfield and backing up near an aircraft.

"At approximately 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, a Delta Airlines passenger breached gate 12 at the terminal and accessed the airfield," a spokesperson for John Wayne Airport told Fox News Digital.

"He stole an Alliance Ground International (AGI) baggage tug assigned to Alaska Airlines and crashed it into another vehicle by Gate 7. He attempted to steal an American Airlines lavatory truck and was arrested by Airport Police Services," the statement continued.

"The subject was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The subject was scheduled to depart on a Delta flight to Seattle. There were no impacts to operations."

The ride eventually ended with the tug crashing into another vehicle in the area of Gate 7, according to FOX 59.

The man then allegedly tried to get into an American Airlines lavatory service truck before Airport Police Services officers apprehended him, the outlet reported.

Authorities arrested the individual on suspicion of vehicle theft, trespassing and vandalism. He was later taken to a hospital for evaluation, according to FOX 59.

The incident did not disrupt airport operations, the outlet reported.

Fox News Digital previously reported on another unusual airport theft involving a man who allegedly took a small plane in Hungary while intoxicated.

The man allegedly removed the restraints securing a Cessna 172 at Kalocsa Airport and took off in the aircraft before heading toward Paks, the home of Hungary's only nuclear power plant.

The unauthorized flight was detected by Hungarian military radar, prompting two fighter jets to respond. The Cessna eventually came down in a sunflower field near Gerjen.

After exiting the damaged aircraft, the man allegedly sought help from a passing motorist before attempting to take the driver's vehicle, according to Hungarian police.

The driver prevented him from leaving with the car, and officers arrested the man nearby. Police said he appeared intoxicated at the time and were investigating whether other substances were involved.

Oklahoma dismisses freshman wide receiver Jahsiear Rogers days before Red River Rivalry

Oklahoma has dismissed true freshman wide receiver Jahsiear Rogers from the football program, team officials confirmed Thursday. The move comes days before Oklahoma plays Texas in the Red River Rivalry in Dallas.

The university provided no reason for the departure, and Rogers has been removed from the team's roster.

Shortly after the news broke, former Oklahoma player and Sooner Radio Network analyst Gabe Ikard posted on X:

No reason was given for his ousting, but the move fits the tight culture head coach Brent Venables has built in Norman. Coach Venables has consistently enforced strict program standards since taking over in Norman.

Rogers came to Oklahoma as a four-star recruit from Appoquinimink High School in Wilmington, Delaware. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound receiver chose the Sooners over Alabama, Nebraska and Penn State. Rogers caught five passes for 70 yards in the spring game.

Through the first month of the 2026 season, Rogers logged just six offensive snaps and zero catches.

Does losing depth hurt down the road? Sure. Does it matter against Texas on Saturday? Not even a little bit.

Caitlin Clark left off 19 WNBA MVP ballots despite historic season as A’ja Wilson wins fifth award

Caitlin Clark received one first-place vote for WNBA MVP after producing a season nobody in the league had managed before.

And that might not even be the most ridiculous part of the results. Nineteen voters didn't put her on their ballots at all.

The WNBA announced Thursday that A’ja Wilson won her record fifth MVP award, receiving 65 of the 74 first-place votes from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. Minnesota rookie Olivia Miles finished second, followed by Indiana’s Kelsey Mitchell and Clark.

Clark appeared on 55 ballots, receiving one first-place vote, six second-place votes, 20 third-place votes, 16 fourth-place votes and 12 fifth-place votes. She finished with 212 points, well behind Miles’ 442 and Mitchell’s 287.

Wilson had an outstanding season and a compelling case to win. But apparently, more than a quarter of the voters watched Clark this year and decided five other players deserved recognition ahead of her.

I'd love to hear those explanations.

Caitlin Clark’s historic season deserved more consideration

Clark averaged 22.3 points and 8.3 assists per game, becoming the first WNBA player to finish a season averaging at least 20 points and eight assists.

Combining her own baskets and free throws with the points teammates scored from her assists, Clark created an average of 41.2 points per game. According to the WNBA’s own end-of-season review, that was the highest average in league history.

That's a useful place to start a conversation about offensive value, especially when her teammate finished ahead of her in MVP voting. There's a compelling case that Mitchell benefited from Clark far more than vice versa.

After all, Mitchell just completed her ninth WNBA season. In her six years with Indiana prior to Clark's arrival, Mitchell averaged 16.4 points per game. In the three seasons since the Fever drafted Clark, Mitchell has averaged 21.4 points, including a career-high 24.7 points this season.

Clark also had five games with at least 30 points and 10 assists this season. Every other player in WNBA history combined has four.

Read that again. Read that again. Caitlin Clark did something five times in one season that every other player combined has done four times in WNBA regular-season history.

Her best performance came against Seattle on July 17, when she scored 45 points and had 10 assists. It was the first 40-point, 10-assist game the WNBA had ever seen.

And those spectacular nights were backed by sustained production. Clark recorded 13 games with at least 20 points and 10 assists, nearly one-third of her 40 appearances. She finished with 891 points and 333 assists, becoming the first player to reach 800 points and 300 assists in a season.

Then there's the team success. Indiana averaged a league-record 96 points per game. Clark’s ability to score while creating opportunities for her teammates helped make that possible.

Apparently, some voters found all of that easier to overlook than others.

Miles averaged 19.8 points and six assists while helping Minnesota finish with the league’s best record. Although it's worth noting that Minnesota also finished with the league’s best record in 2025, before Miles entered the league.

Mitchell scored a league-record 1,086 points. That's impressive, but Clark helped create those scoring opportunities through both her passing and the defensive attention she draws.

Wilson, meanwhile, averaged 26.2 points and 9.4 rebounds, led the league in points and blocks per game, and helped Las Vegas win 31 games. Her ability to dominate at both ends gives voters plenty of reasons to put her first and, honestly, she probably deserved to win.

But choosing Wilson and leaving Clark outside the top five are very different judgments.

WNBA media has earned the scrutiny

The award was decided by sportswriters and broadcasters. Given how some prominent members of that industry have covered Clark, skepticism about their judgment shouldn't surprise anyone.

Too much of the coverage treats her popularity as something that needs a racial explanation before anyone can simply appreciate her basketball.

In May, Cari Champion said about Clark: "I don’t like you. I don’t like the way you behave on the court."

By September, Champion was calling Clark an "avatar for people who want to spread hate."

In July, Nancy Armour argued that Clark’s reactions to officiating endangered Black and queer players, even invoking Emmett Till.

Even this week, Charlotte Wilder wanted "something a little more forceful" from Clark about the alleged treatment of Black WNBA players, despite acknowledging she had already spoken out.

That coverage reflects a preference for a story in which Black players need defending and Clark needs to constantly apologize for her mere existence. Her performance too often becomes secondary to what commentators believe her popularity represents.

Sportswriters, commentators and broadcasters are entitled to their opinions (as bad as they often are). Those examples don't tell us who left Clark off a ballot, but they help explain why fans might question the media’s judgment.

And questioning their judgment doesn't require rooting against Wilson. She received only four Defensive Player of the Year votes while Angel Reese received 46 and won the award in a landslide.

I thought Wilson deserved considerably more support in that race, but as I argued at the time, the media loves to trumpet Reese as a star and they needed a reason to prop her up.

The standard should be consistent: evaluate what the players actually did, and be prepared to defend the result.

Clark deserved to finish higher in MVP voting

To be clear, Clark’s popularity doesn't entitle her to an MVP award. But it's not like her play didn't warrant consideration as the league's most valuable player.

There is room to disagree about how much weight to give defense, turnovers, scoring efficiency or a team’s record. Reasonable people can disagree about where Clark belonged behind Wilson, but leaving the Fever superstar outside the top five is borderline malpractice.

Nineteen voters decided a historic combination of scoring and playmaking wasn't worth even a fifth-place vote.

That doesn't prove that they simply don't like Caitlin Clark and don't want her to succeed, but it certainly raises the question.

If those 19 voters have a basketball explanation for leaving Clark off their ballots, they should make it public immediately.

An Iranian anti-regime protester was hanged at dawn Oct. 5 inside Isfahan Central Prison, just hours after marrying his imprisoned fiancée over a jail phone line, The Times reported Thursday.

Alireza Sepahi, 25, was executed alongside co-defendant Alireza Raisi after being sentenced to death in the anti-government demonstrations at Isfahan’s Alikhani Square Jan. 8., according to Human Rights Iran.

Sepahi and his bride, student activist Mahshad Keshani, 22, knew and loved each other before being arrested during anti-regime demonstrations, the report said.

Keshani, who is serving a five-year sentence, pushed for an informal wedding Sunday as fears mounted that Sepahi’s execution was imminent after a final family summons.

The couple exchanged vows over the phone from inside Isfahan prison, joined by their fathers.

Human rights lawyer Amirsalar Davoudi facilitated the ceremony by reading the vows for the fathers to bless.

Keshani’s family gave a copy of the Quran, a saffron rock candy and a single red rose as a traditional dowry.

"It was Mahshad’s idea," Davoudi told The Times. "Even now, I wonder how one young woman can possess such courage."

Davoudi recalled warning Keshani about the permanent nature of the decision.

"I told her, ‘My dear, you understand that this cannot simply be undone?’" Davoudi said.

When Davoudi presented the proposal to Sepahi, the young man broke down in tears.

"Alireza was crying, and something deeply painful and beautiful happened. Even the prison officers began to cry," Davoudi said.

The ceremony held no formal authority to halt the execution. Sepahi had previously survived a scheduled hanging in July after suffering a heart attack on his way to the gallows. Authorities then rescheduled the execution after he regained consciousness.

On Monday morning, hours after the vows were spoken, Sepahi was hanged.

He is among seven defendants executed in the Alikhani Square case, in which 12 men were accused in the deaths of four security personnel.

Davoudi condemned the Iranian regime's actions.

"I do not know how to come to terms with this," Davoudi said.

"The regime is taking revenge on innocent young people for the humiliation it has suffered internationally."

Human rights groups report Keshani remains in custody, facing additional security charges.

This came as Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), urged U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres to take immediate international action to halt executions and the killing of protesters in Iran, citing thousands of executions and decades of impunity for human rights abuses.

In a letter ahead of World Day Against the Death Penalty on Oct. 10, Rajavi called for international accountability, independent investigations and diplomatic and economic pressure on Tehran to end the executions.
