Falcons' Drake London shouts at fan amid team's blowout loss to Panthers

Atlanta Falcons star Drake London didn’t want to hear anything from anyone as they were getting blown out by the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The FOX broadcast caught London yelling back at a fan who was apparently shouting at him in the third quarter as the Falcons trailed 34-3. The wide receiver had some team personnel around him as he pointed at the fan and yelled back at him.

It appeared London was shouting expletives.

London addressed the outburst in the postgame press conference as Atlanta dropped the game 34-3.

"I’m going to be honest here, I don’t take light to disrespect at all," he said, via ESPN. "I don’t care who you are. I’m a man, too, at the end of the day. So, if you want to get on a personal level, I can get there, too, but it’s not the right thing to do. So, I got to take accountability for that, and I got to push forward and be the bigger man in some of those situations."

It was a brutal game all around for the Falcons.

Atlanta’s terrible quarterback situation appeared worse than advertised. Cooper Rush was 10-of-17 for 86 yards and threw two interceptions before he was benched. Jack Strand came into the game, completed eight passes and threw an interception of his own.

As for London, he had four catches for 51 yards on five targets.

It’s not exactly his fault for the tough game. Atlanta’s presumed starter, Michael Penix Jr., is still recovering from a torn ACL he suffered last season. Tua Tagovailoa, who was initially announced as the Week 1 starter, is also hurt.

The Falcons are clearly frustrated as they fall to 0-2 to start the season with only 16 points to show for.

Tourists seeking 'dramatic' photo on isolated beach trapped by incoming tide

Tourists went to snap an iconic photo on Oregon's Lost Boy Beach and wound up getting one taken of themselves in a storybook SOS rescue by the local fire department last week.

Three unnamed sea gawkers were stranded for five hours Wednesday, Sept. 16, after a rising tide cut them off from the mainland at the secluded Tillamook County cove. Having reportedly lost cell phone service at the bottom of the steep cliff, the group managed to contact 911 using an emergence satellite feature, The Oregonian reported.

Netarts-Oceanside Fire District received the call and found them stranded on the shrinking patch of beach with the tide rolling in on them, using a drone to capture footage of them spelling out a large "SOS" with sticks.

Lost Boy Beach is accessible only by scrambling over rocky terrain and passing through a sea cave that is open at both ends. While the small beach is inviting during low tide, the rising water blocks the only exit.

"When people are stranded there, we may not be able to get to them," NOFD Chief Jeff McBrayer told the paper.

Crews initially considered waiting for the tide to recede, but opted for an active rescue due to rough surf, the presence of sneaker waves, and the fact that the tourists were already wet and cold, he added.

Navigating the dangerous conditions, rescuers hugged the remaining shoreline while secured to ropes instead of wading directly through the unpredictable water. Once they reached the tourists, responders provided life vests, clipped the group to the safety ropes, and guided them through the surf to a secure area where they could walk out on their own.

The visitors emerged from the ordeal with only minor bumps and bruises.

Following the rescue, Chief McBrayer used the incident to remind coastal visitors of the area's deceptive dangers of exploring isolated coves.

"You have to ask a local or check a tide app on a phone for tide information," he said.

Lost Boy Beach, situated on the northern Oregon coast just south of a towering basalt cliff, derives its ominous name from a century-old local legend. While it remains unverified if the tragic tale is historically accurate, the name has persisted for roughly 100 years, functioning as a built-in, enduring warning to visitors about the cove's unpredictable and deadly conditions.

Historically, reaching this hidden stretch of sand has remained notoriously treacherous, wedged between Short Beach to the north and Tunnel Beach — sometimes known as Star Trek Beach — to the south. Unlike its neighboring Short Beach, which finally received a community-built "stairway of 100 steps" around 2000 to stop visitors from cracking their heads on a slippery cliff face, Lost Boy Beach has never featured safe overland access.

The late Hulk Hogan, Chad Bronstein, Izzy Martinez and Eric Bischoff formed the league to bring professional freestyle wrestling to the United States and around the world. Wyatt Hendrickson and Kennedy Blades are just some of the top champions in RAF.

RAF was in the rumor mill last week as Bronstein and Martinez told MMA Fighting that they were having discussions with NFL legend Ray Lewis to have a match before the end of the year. The report said a deal wasn’t done but things were trending in a positive direction.

Kurt Angle, the former WWE star who was an Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrestling and three-time NCAA All-American wrestler, told OutKick Dropkick he couldn’t see Lewis having much success on the mat against world-class opponents.

"I don't know if he's going to be able to do it," Angle said on behalf of Gambling.com, the guide to the best online sportsbooks. "Ray did wrestle I believe in high school. So, he knows wrestling, but I think he's going to be there to represent RAF. If they do something with him, I don't know if it's going to be a real match.

"But the thing is, every match in Olympic-style wrestling is real. So, if he does wrestle, then good for him. And I hope he doesn't get hurt, unfortunately. Listen, Ray Lewis is a bada--, but I mean, he's probably what 55, 60 years old. So, I don't know if it'd be a good idea for him to get on the mat with some of those studs."

Lewis is 51. He was a Florida state wrestling champion before he turned his attention to football and became one of the most dominant linebackers in NFL history.

Angle had a brief spell in RAF as a commentator before being let go. He said there were no hard feelings about being cut and expected RAF to become a dynamic organization akin to UFC.

"I got let go due to budget and I completely understood," he told OutKick Dropkick. "I wasn't the greatest at commentary and they brought me in because of my name and they wanted me to go for a year and try it out and so I did it and I really enjoyed it. But they have a great future in front of them. I mean they're going all over the world. They're traveling to different countries, doing events. They were in Russia. They're going to be in Europe, India, they're going everywhere. They're traveling like the WWE does.

"And the thing is wrestling in the United States is very popular, but it's even more popular overseas. So, it's not as popular in Western Europe, but Eastern Europe, Asia, India, those areas, it's very popular. So, I think they have a great future in front of them. I think they're going to do tremendously well, and they're signing not only the American wrestlers, they're signing wrestlers from all over the world. So, this is going to be something that is going to turn into a dynamo company. This is going to be, God willing, it's going to be like the UFC."

If Trump wants to lower drug prices, his obvious free-riding targets are outside the US

President Donald Trump just secured nine new pricing agreements with drug manufacturers that could help reduce what Americans pay for many prescription medicines.

The deals demonstrate Trump's commitment to lowering drug prices for patients. The president's dedication – and his desire to negotiate with companies individually, rather than imposing broad mandates – is commendable. But his efforts would be better directed at the root cause of high drug prices: foreign countries free-riding on American drug innovation.

To deliver lasting price reductions while protecting U.S. leadership in biomedical innovation, the Trump administration must focus its negotiating strategy overseas – and intensify its push to make other countries pay their fair share for the medicines America develops.

TRUMP EXPANDS TRUMPRX PRESCRIPTION DRUG DISCOUNT PROGRAM TO MORE THAN 800 MEDICATIONS

For decades, wealthy foreign governments have used price controls, mandatory rebates, reimbursement delays and other policies to suppress what they pay for innovative medicines. These measures allow foreign countries to reap the benefits of new treatments while forcing Americans to bear a disproportionate share of the cost of developing them.

American patients currently account for roughly three-quarters of pharmaceutical profits and over half of global research and development spending – far more than America's share of the world economy.

If U.S. leaders want to correct this imbalance, putting more pressure on drugmakers isn't the solution. Instead, the administration must focus on getting other countries to end their free-riding practices.

Forcing U.S. prices lower without increasing foreign countries' contributions risks harming both American patients and our broader biotech industry. Some members of Congress, for example, have proposed writing "most-favored-nation" drug pricing into law – permanently tying U.S. drug prices to the artificially low prices paid abroad.

ROBERT F KENNEDY JR: THE FUTURE OF MEDICINE SHOULD BE BUILT IN AMERICA

Such an approach would effectively import foreign price controls into America – reducing funding for future research and development and slowing the development of new treatments. It could also threaten jobs, undermine manufacturing investment and weaken U.S. drugmakers' ability to compete with China.

To sustain both lower prices and continued innovation here at home, other wealthy countries will need to step up and shoulder more of the costs.

3 STEPS THAT COULD STOP FRAUD AND MAKE HEALTHCARE MORE AFFORDABLE FOR ALL AMERICANS

Fortunately, the Trump administration's negotiating skills offer a way to make that happen. The same hard-charging approach it has used to negotiate recent deals with manufacturers can also be applied abroad to pressure foreign governments to reform their pricing policies.

The United Kingdom is a clear example. Last year, Trump negotiated a deal that will require Britain to increase what it pays for new medicines by 25%. As Britain contributes more toward developing new medicines, the cost burden on the United States will decrease.

The administration is also laying the groundwork for a similar agreement with Germany. In June, it launched a formal investigation into how Germany's drug price controls have harmed American commerce. This investigation will give American trade officials the leverage they need to negotiate fairer pricing policies and practices with German policymakers.

The next step should be to apply this strategy to other wealthy nations. Countries like Japan, France and Switzerland use tactics similar to Germany's to pay far less than fair value for new drugs. In Japan, for example, roughly half of newly launched medicines are subject to annual price cuts.

INNOVATION IS KEY TO AMERICA STAYING A SUPERPOWER. BUT IT IS MISSING AN ESSENTIAL PIECE

According to one analysis, if other developed countries all paid U.S. prices for new prescription drugs, global pharmaceutical revenue would rise by more than $254 billion. That would provide a major influx of revenue for American drug innovators – potentially fueling a research and development boom that would create jobs across the country while delivering more and cheaper lifesaving treatments for patients.

Fitness expert reveals 6 things people over 35 should do after workouts to stay strong

The most important part of a workout may happen after it ends.

As adults age, muscles can become less responsive to protein and other muscle-building signals, making post-exercise recovery critical for repairing tissue and preserving strength.

Jacob Zemer, a New York-based fitness coach, focuses heavily on recovery with his clients, who primarily range from 35 to 55 years old.

ONE MUSCLE PROTEIN MAY HOLD THE KEY TO STAYING STRONGER AS YOU AGE, STUDY FINDS

"Most of my clients are really focused on longevity," he told Fox News Digital. "They're not people who are looking to be bodybuilders or power lifters – they want to age well."

Zemer shared the following six ways adults over 35 can recover more effectively after exercise.

No. 1: Get enough quality sleep

"Getting seven to nine hours of quality sleep is vital," Zemer told Fox News Digital.

He suggested the following steps to support deeper, more restorative sleep.

Stop eating a couple of hours before bedtime, which will "dramatically reduce your resting heart rate."
Adhere to a set bedtime every night.
Discontinue any screen use a couple of hours prior to bedtime.
Try not to have stressful conversations close to bedtime.
Take a hot shower – this will raise the body’s core temperature, which then drops afterward and may help promote sleep.
Keep the bedroom temperature between 60 and 65 degrees.
Make the bedroom as dark as possible.

No. 2: Get regular bloodwork

Getting regular checkups and completing recommended lab work can also help identify issues that may interfere with recovery, according to Zemer.

"Make sure you’re keeping up with what's going on with your hormones," he advised. "Make sure everything in your body is functioning properly, because as we age, our bodies change."

3 COMMON FACTORS MAY BE SECRETLY SPEEDING UP THE AGING PROCESS, EXPERT SAYS

Experts emphasize, however, that preventive testing should be personalized based on factors such as age, gender, symptoms and medical history.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends screening for conditions including high blood pressure, prediabetes/type 2 diabetes and osteoporosis.

No. 3: Use warmth to support recovery

Heat exposure may be another way to support muscle strength and recovery after exercise, Zemer suggested.

Warmth causes blood vessels to widen, increasing circulation to tired muscles and potentially helping to deliver nutrients involved in repair.

A 2025 review of 22 studies found that nearly half of participants reported improved muscle-function recovery with heat therapy.

"If you don't have access to a sauna, taking a hot shower after your workout releases heat proteins that may help with recovery – and actually it helps improve what we call ‘gains’ from the gym," the trainer told Fox News Digital.

No. 4: Stretch

"After you get done working out, your muscles are shortened," Zemer said. "And so you want to re-lengthen them by stretching."

As strength training can put significant wear and tear on the body, it’s important to maintain full mobility by moving through a complete range of motion and stretching afterward, according to the expert.

No. 5: Fuel and hydrate

Getting adequate protein after a workout to aid in muscle repair and rebuilding, Zemer emphasized.

The International Society of Sports Nutrition recommends targeting about 20 to 40 grams of high-quality protein after training. For active adults, the general guideline is roughly 1.4 to 2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day.

Protein needs should be individualized, however, particularly for people with certain medical conditions.

Hydration is also important prior to working out, Zemer added.

"If you don't drink enough water, you're really setting yourself up for failure when you're in the session, which is going to cause you to have lackluster results," he said.

No. 6: Give your body time to de-stress

"You just did something that, even if it’s healthy and has a positive impact on your body, still stresses your body," Zemer said.

"Your cortisol’s high. So getting a good meal and a little bit of rest before you move on with your day" can help the body recover.

The goal is to give the nervous system and muscles the resources they need to recover.

A 2026 review described exercise as a cycle of "stress response, adaptation and recovery," noting that the benefits of workouts depend on sufficient recovery time, sleep and energy availability.

The difference between ‘good sore’ and ‘bad sore’

While it’s normal and generally a good thing to feel sore after exercise, Zemer said there’s a fine line between "good" and "bad" soreness.

"The soreness should be only for a short period of time, like maybe a day or so after you're done training," he told Fox News Digital.

"If it takes you a full week to recover, you simply trained too hard."

Zemer noted that the body adapts to training gradually, so people should ease into a new fitness routine rather than pushing too hard too soon.

"If you have extended amounts of soreness that exceed two or three days, you did too much," he said. "If your knees and joints ache, you did too much."

That doesn’t mean it’s necessary to stop working out, however.

"It just means maybe drop back what you did by 30% and start from there," Zemer advised. "For example, if you did six sets of legs, try instead to do four sets of legs the next time you train. That's going to make it far more effective for your recovery."

The most important thing to recognize, according to the trainer, is that exercise-induced endorphins can temporarily mask pain. Discomfort that seems manageable during a workout may feel worse later, once those chemicals wear off.

"If something hurts in the gym when you have your endorphins going strong, it's going to hurt really bad later – and that's the last thing you want, because if you're hurt, you're not going to be able to train consistently."

NFL's dumbest moment of Week 2 goes to Jets coach Aaron Glenn who played not to lose at end of regulation

Sometimes, the dumbest play of the week in the NFL is not actually a play at all but a play-call or decision by a coach. We're looking at you, Aaron Glenn.

The New York Jets coach, in his second season with the Jets making all the decisions, has been a study in inconsistency with his clock management.

And he was downright worthy of hard questioning on Sunday after a 20-17 overtime loss to the Green Bay Packers – because maybe this game didn't need to go to overtime at all.

But Glenn curiously decided it would.

In the fourth quarter, you see, the Packers had the ball and the Jets limited them to a 5-yard completion on third-and-10. So the Packers faced a fourth-down play with about 50 seconds left to play.

Glenn could have immediately called time out.

He could have immediately forced the Packers to punt on fourth down from midfield and given his offense one final opportunity in regulation to perhaps run three or four plays, get in field goal range, and pull out a win.

Glenn had timeouts. But he didn't use them. He apparently didn't even think of using them.

"I didn't," Glenn admitted after the game. "I didn't consider using that. I know exactly what you're talking about. No, I didn't think of using the timeout at that point at all."

Fair enough. If we're giving Glenn the benefit of the doubt, we have to believe he probably thought it all through and made an informed decision.

But informed decisions come with reasoning. So what was Glenn's reasoning for not using time-outs that would have given his offense a chance?

"Man, I want to go back and really look at it, you know, to be honest with you," Glenn said. "I think they were in a situation where they were trying a no-brainer, and they took the no-brainer, or they took the penalty on that."

The Packers did indeed praise Jesus that Glenn didn't call time out, so they did the no-brainer thing and sat on the ball and took a delay of game penalty. The 10-second runoff on the penalty left only two seconds on the clock.

And the Packers, intent on launching a Hail Mary on fourth down, suffered a Jordan Love sack instead, to end regulation.

But, again, if Glenn had called that timeout immediately after the third-down play, the Jets might have had maybe those 50 seconds to force Green Bay to punt and give their offense a chance.

"Yeah, and if they would have punted it, that would put us in a backed-up situation," Glenn argued. "They could have punted the ball and put us in a backed-up situation right there. So that was the reason why."

This is not the way.

If Glenn had forced the issue, he actually has no clue what might have happened next. The punter might have dropped the snap. The punt might have gotten blocked. His punt returner, challenged as he's been with holding on to the ball, might have contributed a dynamic return.

But instead, Glenn made certain his offense would have no final opportunity to win the game in regulation.

New York Jets fans and the media covering the team, being the understanding and patient people they are, obviously excused Glenn's strategy.

No, wait—no, they didn't.

"This debacle falls on Aaron Glenn," the attention-grabbing part of a New York Post headline blared.

Fans also took to social media and roasted Glenn.

"Playing not to lose," one said.

"AG should not be a head coach IMHO," another offered.

"Banking TO that can't ever be recovered," another said.

All of these are accurate and show how dumb Glenn's end-of-game decision actually was.

Week 2 offered the first chance to see which opening-week performances were meaningful and which were complete mirages. Although, thanks to confirmation bias, nothing that happened probably changed anyone's opinion (including mine).

Below, you will find my biggest takeaway from each game on the Week 2 Sunday slate.

Panthers 34, Falcons 3

Takeaway: Don't sleep on the Panthers offense.

Carolina gave up 59 points to Chicago in Week 1, which overshadowed a solid offensive performance of their own. The Panthers scored 37 points and gained 478 yards of offense against the Bears. Of course, the defensive no-show made it all for naught. But after another 30+ point performance, suddenly it looks like Bryce Young's step forward in 2025 wasn't a fluke and he might be taking another step in 2026.

Saints 24, Ravens 17

Takeaway: The Saints are a really fun team to watch.

Last week, New Orleans nearly pulled off a massive upset of the Detroit Lions but fell just short. This week, they didn't let the opportunity slip away. More importantly, at least for general NFL fans, this team is fun. Tyler Shough, coming off a fan-voted Rookie of the Year season, doesn't look like a one-hit wonder. If Chris Olave can stay healthy, Saints-Panthers might be must-watch TV and that's not something I ever thought I'd type.

Vikings 9, Bears 3

Takeaway: What a difference a week makes.

A week ago, pundits were declaring that the 2026 Chicago Bears offense might be one of the greatest of all time. That was.. premature. Now, there's nothing more important than the health of quarterback Caleb Williams, who was carted off the field in the fourth quarter with a hamstring injury. But Chicago didn't look great even when Williams was in the game. Weather was a factor, of course, but the two teams that scored 98 points combined in Week 1 only mustered 12 in Week 2.

Bengals 20, Texans 6

Takeaway: If the Bengals can win games like this, the rest of the NFL is in trouble.

In the Joe Burrow era, the Bengals have basically relied on their star quarterback to help them outscore opponents. This game was the opposite. In fact, Houston outgained Cincinnati by over 100 yards and had 10 more first downs. But the Bengals defense kept clamping down, forcing four turnovers on downs and only allowing two field goals. If Cincinnati's defense can almost singlehandedly win games, the Bengals are one of the best teams in the league.

Patriots 20, Steelers 3

Takeaway: The Steelers are not a fun team to watch.

Right now, Pittsburgh is like the anti-New Orleans. While the Saints have a young quarterback and a young receiver helping them move the ball up and down the field, the Steelers have an old quarterback whose career probably should have ended three years ago and an overpaid veteran receiver who can't catch anything. That's not a fun combination.

Packers 20, Jets 17

Takeaway: I honestly don't know what to even think about this game.

I was ready to declare that the Jets might actually be good, then they blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead to the Packers and I'm back on the "oh wait, they're still the Jets" train. Similarly, what even are the Packers? They had a huge lead last week against the Vikings, blew it, and looked dead in the water for three quarters against the Jets. I guess they're just this year's ultimate Jekyll and Hyde team. They look fantastic at times and utterly terrible at others.

Eagles 24, Titans 20

Takeaway: The Eagles' record is perfect, but their play is anything but.

There are no moral victories in the NFL, so you'd much rather be 2-0 and playing bad than 0-2 with two heartbreaking losses despite great play. That said, I'm not sure how Eagles fans can feel great about this team right now. They barely scraped by the Commanders in Week 1 and then needed a last-second touchdown to avoid an upset against one of the worst teams in the NFL. The inconsistency that haunted the team last year is still present, and the Cowboys and Giants are both improved. The NFC East is no longer theirs to lose.

Browns 23, Buccaneers 19

Takeaway: The Bucs might just be bad.

Losing to Cincinnati in Week 1 wasn't exactly shame-inducing, but a home loss to the Cleveland Browns is exactly that. Tampa's defense made Deshaun Watson look like a competent NFL quarterback for the first time in like 5 years and the offense really couldn't do much. They might have entered the season as NFC South favorites, but it's clear right now that both the Saints and Panthers are better teams.

49ers 35, Dolphins 13

Takeaway: The Dolphins are the worst team in the NFL.

This won't come as much of a surprise to anyone who follows the league, but yeah, the Dolphins are terrible. The good news is that they are tanking properly and an 0-17 season isn't out of the question. The two other teams that could have staked a claim as the league's worst, the Titans and Browns, both showed up in Week 2 (and the Browns even won). Not only did the Dolphins lose, but they were run out of the building. They might be a historically bad team by the time the season ends.

Broncos 20, Jaguars 13

Takeaway: Sean Payton is still overrated.

To be honest, I don't have much to say about this game. So, I decided to just remind everyone of my hottest NFL take. Sean Payton is a good NFL coach and he's treated like an elite one. He isn't, and the Broncos aren't that good. They'll be exposed in the next two weeks against the Rams and 49ers.

Raiders 26, Chargers 14

Takeaway: The Chargers' season is over.

This might seem extreme, but I don't think it is. The Chargers have now lost games against the Cardinals and Raiders, not exactly world-beaters. Now, look at their upcoming schedule: at Buffalo, at Seattle, Denver, at Kansas City, at Los Angeles Rams, Houston, at Baltimore. It's possible the Chargers are going to be underdogs in each of their next seven games. I don't know how they recover at this point.

Seahawks 31, Cardinals 7

Takeaway: The Seahawks defense is very much the league's best.

There was a debate last year over whether it was the Seahawks or Broncos that featured the league's top unit but there's no such argument so far this year. Seattle held New England to 10 points in Week 1 and came up with a game-winning interception of Drake Maye. The Cardinals put up nearly 400 yards in Week 1 against the Chargers only to have the Seahawks hold them to 151 yards in Week 2. The NFC West is so stacked it almost seems unfair.

Cowboys 37, Commanders 20

Takeaway: Injuries stink.

I was excited to see Jayden Daniels bounce back from an injury-plagued 2025 and return to his 2024 Rookie of the Year form. Then, right at the end of the first half, Daniels suffered another elbow injury and likely faces a lengthy absence. That stinks. For Dallas, it was a good response to the egg they laid in Week 1 against the Giants but the Daniels injury makes it hard to draw too many conclusions from this victory.

Chiefs 33, Colts 30

Takeaway: Is it possible for both teams to be happy?

Yes, the Colts lost and are now 0-2. Yes, I wrote earlier that teams would much rather be 2-0 playing poorly than 0-2 and playing well. But after getting blown out of their own building in Week 1 by the Ravens, this was a major step forward. And the good news is the Colts face the Texans, Commanders, Steelers, Titans and Vikings in their next 5 games, and all five of those games are winnable. For the Chiefs, what is there to say? They look great and poised to make another run at a Super Bowl.

If you have ever watched your arrival time creep later while sitting in traffic, flying over it sounds pretty appealing. Texas is now testing what that could look like. Earlier this month, the Texas Department of Transportation launched the first phase of Project Nexus, a three-year program focused on preparing next-generation aircraft for use in Texas skies.

The Sept. 10 kickoff at Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport included demonstrations from BETA Technologies and Joby Aviation. Joby brought its electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, better known as an eVTOL. No passengers climbed aboard the initial Project Nexus flights. Instead, Texas is starting to learn how air taxis could eventually fit into the way people get around.

AIR TAXIS CUT HOUR-LONG COMMUTES TO MINUTES, RIDERS MAY BE SHOCKED BY THE PRICE

Flying taxi testing has officially started in Texas

Project Nexus will advance in phases over the next three years. The broader first phase uses traditional aircraft, including helicopters and fixed-wing planes, to test routes and collect data. TxDOT says those initial flights will help validate routes and prepare for future advanced air mobility operations. Joby also launched a week-long campaign of piloted electric air taxi flights across North Texas under TxDOT's Project Nexus proposal, part of the federal eVTOL Integration Pilot Program. The campaign included planned direct flights into DFW International Airport, a round trip to Arlington and a route connecting Alliance Airport with Toyota Motor North America's headquarters in Plano. One of the biggest tests involved DFW. Joby's campaign called for a direct flight into DFW's controlled airspace, with the aircraft landing at DFW Corporate Aviation. That puts an eVTOL into the same busy airspace used by one of the world's busiest airports. That kind of testing can tell regulators much more about how these aircraft might eventually operate around major transportation hubs.

Air taxis are getting closer to reality

We have been following electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, better known as eVTOLs, for years. They can rise vertically like a helicopter. Many designs then transition into forward flight using wings. Earlier this year, we looked at how a federal pilot program could bring air taxis into U.S. skies before the industry reaches full commercial service. We have also covered plans for air taxis serving New York City's three major airports and Joby's partnership with Virgin Atlantic to develop electric air taxi service in the United Kingdom. So the aircraft themselves are no longer the biggest surprise. What gets my attention now is where companies are flying them and how regulators are testing their ability to operate around airports people already use. That's where Project Nexus comes in.

Why Dallas-Fort Worth gives air taxis a serious test

Flying around Dallas-Fort Worth creates challenges you do not get at an isolated test site. Joby's campaign included planned missions between Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport and several destinations around the region. DFW International Airport was part of that schedule. The company and federal researchers have been preparing for this type of operation for years. Joby says the FAA and NASA began studying electric air taxi integration in North Texas in 2018. Then, in 2023, Joby and NASA ran a detailed simulation examining whether the DFW terminal area could handle as many as 50 electric air taxi operations per hour. Now that work is moving from computer simulations to aircraft operating in North Texas. Joby has also leased a 45,000-square-foot facility at Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport. The new facility gives Joby a long-term operating presence in North Texas, well beyond this initial flight campaign.

AI AIR TRAFFIC SYSTEM PROMISES FEWER FLIGHT DELAYS

Project Nexus may move medical supplies before passengers

Here's where the Texas plan gets especially interesting. Air taxis tend to grab attention because people imagine hopping aboard and flying over traffic. But some early Project Nexus missions could have nothing to do with your commute. Later phases are expected to focus on medical and cargo logistics. TxDOT specifically points to transporting critical medical supplies or organs between rural facilities and urban medical centers in Austin and San Antonio. That's a use case that could be easier to understand than flying across town to save a few minutes. Moving time-sensitive medical supplies faster could show where this technology provides practical value while passenger operations continue developing.

Passenger air taxis come later

Eventually, Project Nexus plans to put passengers onboard. TxDOT says the final phase will involve passenger air taxi flights across the Texas Triangle. TxDOT's plan calls for regional air taxi connections involving Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Houston. That does not mean commercial passenger service across Texas has a firm launch date. Joby still has certification work ahead. The company says it has advanced into the fifth and final stage of FAA type certification, with testing continuing as part of that process. So you probably will not see an air taxi button appear beside your rideshare options tomorrow. The work happening now is about figuring out how these aircraft could operate safely before passenger service expands.

Air taxi testing is spreading across the US

Texas is getting a lot of attention right now, but Project Nexus is part of a much larger federal effort. The eVTOL Integration Pilot Program includes eight projects across 26 states, with testing focused on passenger travel, cargo and medical transportation. We have already seen some of that play out. Earlier this month, we covered the FAA's testing of Elroy Air's pilotless hybrid-electric Chaparral cargo aircraft. BETA Technologies and United Therapeutics have also tested electric aircraft for transporting organs between Virginia and Maryland. Other projects involve New York and New Jersey, Florida and several additional states. So while Texas is one of the biggest air taxi test beds right now, it is far from the only one. That raises the bigger question: If these trials keep expanding, how long will it be before you start seeing aircraft like these closer to home?

DOORDASH GETS FAA APPROVAL FOR ITS OWN DELIVERY DRONES

What this means to you

If air taxis eventually come to your area, the big question will be simple: Will they actually make your life easier? Skipping over traffic sounds great, especially on the way to an airport or across a crowded metro area. But the convenience depends on where these aircraft take off and land, how much a ride costs and how much time you really save from door to door. You will also want to know what frequent flights sound like overhead. Electric aircraft are designed to be quieter than helicopters, but there is a big difference between hearing one occasionally and having them fly regularly near your neighborhood. And before any of this becomes routine, the FAA has to be comfortable with the safety side. That's exactly why these Texas tests are important. They give regulators a chance to see how the aircraft handle busy airspace before passenger flights become more common. For me, that is what makes Project Nexus worth watching. We already know these aircraft can fly. Now we are starting to find out whether they can fit into the way we actually travel.

I have been watching air taxis develop for years, but Project Nexus feels like the kind of test that can tell us whether they have a real shot at becoming useful transportation. Flying around North Texas and operating at DFW gives Joby a chance to show how these aircraft can handle the kind of busy airspace they would face in regular service. I am also really interested in the medical side. If an electric aircraft can move an organ or critical supplies faster between hospitals, that could be one of the first places where this technology shows its value. For passengers, though, I still come back to two things: price and convenience. If the landing site is 30 minutes out of your way or the fare costs a fortune, flying over traffic starts to lose some of its appeal. Noise will also be something communities pay close attention to as more of these aircraft take to the sky. We already know air taxis can fly. What I want to see now is whether they can save you enough time, at a price you can live with, to make you actually want to book one.

China ‘wiretapped Red Sea’ with spy hub 6 miles from US base: ex Pentagon official warns

Beijing has transformed the Red Sea into a dangerous surveillance hub, a former Pentagon official warned Sunday, after a new report revealed upgrades to China’s military footprint just six miles from a key $66 million-a-year U.S. military base in Djibouti, Africa.

The report by the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) cited new facilities which it said would likely enable the Chinese military to monitor activities of other militaries operating nearby, although it also clarified it was not possible to determine whether China was actively intercepting communications.

The developments, one defense expert told Fox News Digital, could also inject fresh tension into U.S.-China relations in the run-up to Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the White House on Sept. 24. Beijing's intelligence-gathering capabilities are already under renewed scrutiny.

"What China is clearly doing is building eavesdropping capabilities. That seems to be their aim," said Morgan Murphy, former Trump White House official and press secretary for Mark Esper when he was secretary of defense during the first Trump administration.

CHINA-LINKED SPY SITE EXPANSION IN CUBA RAISES ALARMS NEAR KEY US MILITARY BASES

"Beijing has clearly wiretapped the Red Sea. When you build a 30-meter (100-foot-wide) satellite dish and cover it with a dome, so nobody can see where it's pointing, it's pretty clear you're up to no good," Murphy added while stating of the Washington-based think tank, that "the specificity here reflects the thorough research we expect out of CSIS."

The report pinpoints a large southeastern facility showing a control building, three 30-meter dipole antennas for high-frequency communications, two smaller antennas for very and "ultra-high frequencies," three mobile satellite dishes, four probable 5G towers and what CSIS said was a "radome" covering an unidentified asset.

CSIS also highlighted two new communications facilities that it says have emerged since 2024 that are likely to form part of a C4ISR command architecture, expanding China’s ability to intercept signals, track naval movements and communicate with Beijing while monitoring foreign militaries in the region.

The facilities would provide China with "a much more robust picture of the operating environment in the region," the report said.

"This isn’t a supply depot — it’s a 50-yard line seat over America’s power projection and the U.S. Navy," Murphy said before stating that the U.S. has "128 bases in more than 51 countries — China has just one."

"But look at the location — a few miles from Camp Lemonnier, overlooking the choke point that moves roughly a sixth of global sea trade. Great powers don’t plant listening posts next to rival fleets for 'logistics,'" he warned.

"Britain held Gibraltar to see who entered the Med while Japan’s island radios came before the runways. The Soviets’ overseas sites were never just about fuel and Beijing is running that playbook on the Red Sea," Murphy added.

Although China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jian said China is "unaware of the specific situation" and framed the country as a "builder of international peace," the new facilities provide Beijing with a picture of regional operations, according to Reuters.

"The new report is helpful in framing the conversation, and it comes at an awkward time for China because Xi Jinping is visiting the White House on the 24th of this month," Murphy said.

"I'd bet a box of donuts this issue comes up. There is going to be public exposure of this, which Chinese leadership isn't used to. They aren't used to being asked tough questions by the press," he said.

President Donald Trump recently addressed Chinese intelligence efforts aboard Air Force One, acknowledging that China "spies on us" just as "we spy on them."

Trump's comments followed a report by The Wall Street Journal linking support from a Chinese entity to high-resolution satellite imagery used by Iran prior to a deadly missile attack on U.S. troops in Jordan.

"They basically do what we do," Trump noted, adding that "Xi has behaved reasonably well, and we behave reasonably well. ... You know what they say? That China spies on us. I say you're right, and we spy on them, too," he said, according to Reuters.

Murphy noted, "Nations spy on each other — allies and adversaries alike."

"It is a very old playbook, and listening posts all over the world are typical of great powers, but where the metal hits the floorboard is when you try to use that information," he said before adding that China may "keep tabs on us, but they cannot project power like the United States can."

The proximity of China's facility to U.S. operations is a core concern. Located less than six miles from Camp Lemonnier — the primary U.S. counterterrorism hub in Africa — and near French, Italian and Japanese installations, the site has a history of friction with U.S. forces.

"We are just right around the corner from China, and yet it's not a cooperative relationship," Murphy explained.

"Back in 2018, they lasered two of our C-130 pilots' eyes who suffered lasting damage from that incident. Beijing denied it, of course, but we know the truth."

During the 2018 incident, the Pentagon had formally complained to China after military-grade lasers were pointed at American pilots attempting to land at Camp Lemonnier, causing minor injuries.

While Beijing dismissed the allegations as "groundless accusations," the confrontation underscored the potential for friction between military forces operating from nearby bases.

"China has one overseas base. The United States has more than 128 — by some counts, over 700 installations around the world," Murphy said.

"So it's significant that China has chosen to place its only overseas base six miles from ours in Djibouti. It is hugely strategically important, which is why, of course, we're there."

"It's our only base on the continent of Africa," he said, noting that it shares a "parking lot" with Japanese and Italian bases.

"At $66 million a year, it's the best money Americans spend on our defense budget, full stop."

The Bab el-Mandeb Strait is a choke point for nearly 16% of global maritime trade and, with significant crude shipments, Houthi attacks and pipeline disruptions have fueled a regional military buildup.

"Interference by China is in their strategic interest. They don't want to see the United States able to control their oil supply," Murphy said.

"China is far more reliant on Middle Eastern oil than the United States. China imports a huge portion — around 33% or more — of their daily oil needs and is highly reliant on long sea lines. You are seeing this muscle-flexing because they are far more reliant on Middle Eastern oil than we are."

"Having intelligence is one thing, but you must have the ability to act on it. You need assets in the region," Murphy said.

"China doesn't have major combat assets outside their region because they lack a blue-water navy to project power outside the first island chain yet.

"That is coming, and they are working towards it quickly. Americans can take comfort in the fact that they don't have that capacity today, but we must stay alert because the only thing that subdues a threat is a ready posture," he concluded.

America's pickle obsession explodes as flavor spreads from chips to pizza, smoothies and toothpaste

America's snack aisle is in a pickle.

From chips and crackers to nuts, popcorn and pretzels, pickle flavor is popping up just about everywhere.

Pickle-flavored snacks grew 30% in sales over the past year, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing data from market research firm Circana.

GEN Z TURNS ON CLASSIC SNACKS, FORCING MAJOR GROCERY SHAKE-UP: 'THEY DON'T TRUST THEM'

Beyond snacks, pickle flavor has expanded to smoothies, cheese spreads, hummus — even pickle toothpaste — and it's just getting started, a food and beverage trend expert told Fox News Digital.

"According to Datassential's Menu Trends platform, pickles appear on 46% of U.S. restaurant menus, growing 6% over the past four years," said Renee Lee Wege, trendologist and senior publications manager at market research firm Datassential.

"That doesn't seem like a lot, but for something already ubiquitous like pickles, that's notable, as it gets into formats like pickle pizza, pickle beverages, etc.," she told Fox News Digital. "We also predict an additional 5% growth on menus in the next four years."

Traditional pickles are most popular among millennials, but younger generations are driving the quirkier flavor applications, Datassential data shows.

Forty-eight percent of millennials love pickles, while 76% of this demographic loves or likes them. Gen Z trails in fourth place behind Gen X and boomers, though Wege noted, "that is pickle in general, which is tried-and-true, but pickle-flavored items, especially if they are unique or out there, would likely not be as appealing to older generations."

"Where Gen Z plays in is with the unique pickle-flavored items and creations that have been trending on social media, and we all know Gen Z's love affair with social media," she said.

Pickle flavor is being propelled by social media virality, Wege noted.

"From our social listening data, we see that pickles and pickle-flavored items generated more than 80,880,000 social-media engagements over the past 12 months," she said. "And recent chain examples include Smoothie King's Grillo's Pickles Smoothie, Del Taco's Fried Pickle Taco and McDonald's Dill Pickle McShaker Fries."

Pickle dip is another buzzy social media item, and coming soon to a pizzeria near you: pickle pizza.

"In Datassential's 2026 pizza trend data, pickle-related toppings are among the fastest-growing vegetable ingredients on pizza menus, with dill pickle up 73% and pickle up 46% over four years, indicating meaningful recent momentum for pickle pizza components," Wege said.

Pickles are ubiquitous and appeal to most consumers, Wege said, but what makes the current craze so pronounced is social media's ability to stir a frenzy around limited-edition offerings, combined with other trends.

"This is an evolution of 'maxxing' and consumers, particularly younger ones, looking for 'more is more' and maximalism," she said.

A 75-page court filing detailing alleged threats, gun photos and violent text messages tied to convicted Texas killer Karmelo Anthony appears at first glance to be a roadmap of evidence prosecutors planned to present at trial.

But a veteran Texas criminal defense attorney says one of the biggest misconceptions surrounding the document is that jurors were never guaranteed to see any of it.

Fox News Digital recently obtained the filing, which prosecutors submitted before Anthony's murder trial under Texas Rule of Evidence 404(b).

The filing has taken on renewed importance because Anthony's bid for a new trial focuses on an alleged pretrial agreement governing character evidence. Anthony argues confusion over that agreement affected his decision not to testify, while prosecutors dispute that claim.

The notice catalogs dozens of alleged prior acts prosecutors said they may seek to introduce, including allegations that Anthony stalked his girlfriend hours before fatally stabbing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a Frisco high school track meet on April 2, 2025.

Prosecutors also cited text messages in which Anthony allegedly said he was "on the verge," posed with firearms, made violent threats and repeatedly discussed fighting.

The filing also includes allegations that Anthony talked about committing robberies, buying firearms and extended magazines, selling narcotics and threatening multiple people, including his then-girlfriend, in text messages spanning several years. Prosecutors also cited screenshots they said represent only portions of larger conversations and noted the alleged prior acts were separate from the charged offense.

To some readers, the filing might appear to be a blueprint of the prosecution's case.

But appearances can be misleading.

Tiffany Burks, a partner at Texas law firm Varghese Summersett and a former prosecutor, said that's not how Rule 404(b) works.

Burks explained that filing a Rule 404(b) notice does not mean jurors will ultimately hear the evidence. Instead, it gives the defense advance notice of evidence prosecutors may seek to introduce, so attorneys have time to investigate the allegations and prepare a response before trial.

If prosecutors believe they may want to introduce evidence of prior alleged bad acts, they must notify the defense before trial, so attorneys have an opportunity to investigate the allegations, prepare a response and avoid being surprised before a jury.

"The law requires that you file a 404(b) notice so that you can give the other side notice of what it is you may want to put in trial because the parties have to be prepared," Burks said. "Specifically, the defense has to be prepared to respond or rebut that information."

In effect, the filing functioned as a placeholder, preserving prosecutors' ability to ask the judge to admit the evidence later if they believed it became relevant during trial. Filing the notice did not mean the judge would allow jurors to hear it, nor did it mean prosecutors would ultimately decide to offer every allegation listed in the document.

That also helps explain why Anthony's filing stretched to 75 pages.

Rule 404(b) generally prohibits prosecutors from introducing prior acts simply to argue a defendant has a bad character. But judges may admit that evidence for other purposes if it satisfies the rules of evidence.

"When I was a prosecutor, I would put everything but the kitchen sink in the notice," Burks said. "If you don't give the other side notice of it, then you're not going to be able to utilize it later."

The filing reaches back to Anthony's school years in Louisiana and includes allegations of repeated fights, school suspensions, threats, assaults and misconduct. It also cites text messages in which Anthony allegedly wrote, "When I get mad i see red," "When I get mad i blackout" and "When I get mad i cant control myself."

After reviewing the filing following the trial, Metcalf's father, Jeff Metcalf, said he had "no idea" many of the allegations existed until he read the 75-page notice. Speaking with Fox News contributor Donna Rotunno, Metcalf said he was surprised by the scope of the filing.

Prosecutors also included photographs and videos they said showed Anthony with what appeared to be firearms, along with messages discussing shootings, robberies and narcotics.

The notice itself, however, is not evidence that those alleged acts occurred.

Instead, prosecutors identified them as evidence they said they might ask the court to admit at trial. The filing also cautions that some of the screenshots reflect only portions of larger text conversations.

Burks said prior alleged conduct can become especially important when a defendant argues self-defense because prosecutors often try to show the defendant – not the alleged victim – was actually the first aggressor. Rather than trying to prove someone has a violent character, prosecutors may argue prior conduct helps explain who started the confrontation, intent or another issue permitted under Rule 404(b).

"The prosecution can file a 404(b) notice to provide some information that can show that the defendant was, in fact, the first aggressor in the situation by showing information of previous aggressive acts," Burks said. "They can also use it to rebut a defensive theory."

Anthony argued he acted in self-defense when he fatally stabbed Metcalf during an altercation at a Frisco track meet. Prosecutors filed the 404(b) notice roughly a month before trial, preserving the ability to ask the judge to admit dozens of alleged prior acts if they later became relevant during trial.

The Collin County jury ultimately rejected Anthony's self-defense claim. Instead, the jury convicted him of murder and sentenced him to 35 years in prison after hearing testimony from more than 20 witnesses and reviewing surveillance video from the track meet.

"I think probably the biggest misconception people have about 404(b) is they think that because you've given the other side notice of it, that it's automatically going to come in," Burks said. "That is not what it means."

"William and Catherine definitely have the wow factor that Diana had — and which spawned Di-mania," Bond told the outlet. "People today are equally mesmerized by the new Princess of Wales, so tall, so elegant and so chatty, but William just seems to purr with pride that his wife is such a star."

Christopher Andersen, author of "Kate!," agreed.

"The British people adore Kate in the same way they adored Princess Diana, the daughter-in-law she never met," Andersen told Fox News Digital. "Kate has been William's rock for a quarter-century, and vice versa," Andersen continued. "What they have is the real thing. And I think Kate's cancer battle gave them a whole new perspective on life and a renewed appreciation of each other. It's all well and good to be proper and stiff in that British way, but why go to such lengths to hide their deep affection for each other? The spontaneous hugs, the loving looks — why wouldn't William be bursting with pride?"

Bond told the Mirror that while William is "pretty dashing and gets his fair share of crowd worship," his reaction to Kate's popularity contrasts sharply with that of his parents.

During the king’s marriage to the late Princess of Wales, royal watchers and photographers would clamor just to get a glimpse of her. Reports over the years have said Charles struggled with the attention Diana received.

In her controversial 1995 "Panorama" interview, Diana recalled a royal tour in 1983, saying, "We'd be going round Australia, for instance, and all you could hear was, 'Oh, she's on the other side.'"

Diana said it caused "a lot of jealousy" and that "complicated situations arose because of that." Charles and Diana separated in 1992, and their divorce was finalized in 1996, a year before she died at age 36.

"Luckily, William doesn't seem to suffer the same jealousy that his father did when Diana was the darling of the crowds," Bond said.

Following Kate's May visit to Italy, William said he was "very, very proud" of her.

"Rather than Prince William being jealous, his delight regarding her success is palpable," British royal expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital. "Part of his joy is no doubt due to her strengthening the monarchy rather than detracting from it. His admiration for her is visible via his adoring glances and his general ease with her popularity."

"They have a jolly competitive spirit due to their love of sports, but they are also totally united," Fordwich said. "It's brilliant, both for their marriage and for the future of the monarchy."

William and Kate first met as students at the University of St Andrews. They became friends before their romance blossomed. In 2007, the couple split, with William later saying, "It was very much trying to find our own way, and we were growing up." They got back together that same year, and William proposed in 2010. The Prince and Princess of Wales are parents to three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. William is heir to the throne.

"He doesn't just see a wife," Chard said. "He sees the perfect future queen. Someone who can live in relative privacy while being in the public eye, which is exactly what the monarchy needs to survive. They also genuinely still adore each other. It's not performed for cameras."

"The public held a torch for Diana as they do for Princess Catherine now," Chard said. "William is also loved, but together, they have something more powerful than individual star power. He knows how valuable she is."

Chard also said William wants his wife to shine and feel confident in her royal role.

"He loves the fact that she is loved," Chard said. "He is in awe. It reminds him, in the best way, of the love his late mother received from the public. When he watches a crowd reach for Catherine, he doesn't see a rival for attention. He sees the woman he loves being adored, and he adores her all the more for it."

Royal watchers told Fox News Digital that Kate has grown increasingly confident in her role as she supports the king. Charles has continued carrying out royal duties following his cancer diagnosis. Andersen said Kate will be ready when the time comes for her to take on a greater role.

Trump’s Greenland deal is a move to freeze out China and protect America in the Western Hemisphere. In decades past, Americans could indulge our natural aversion to foreign policy and bask in economic prosperity and a Western Hemisphere free of major threats.

Then China’s President Xi Jinping started pouring money into Arctic nations when he took over in 2012. Greenland was a prime target. The Greenland Self-Governance Act of 2009 provided no real barrier to Chinese investment in critical infrastructure. By 2017, the amount of Chinese foreign direct investment totaled hundreds of millions of dollars — equating to roughly 11% of Greenland’s gross domestic product. By comparison, Chinese investment in Canada constituted only 2.4% of GDP. China also tried to expand its footprint in Greenland by bidding on construction contracts to expand its airports, a move Denmark ultimately blocked.

Trump’s agreement ensures China cannot install installations in Greenland to threaten these vital missions. Ever.

Greenland is basic to American security. You can’t have it dominated by Chinese money.

World leaders descend on New York for UNGA — but who really has America’s ear?

UNITED NATIONS, NEW YORK — More than 100 presidents and prime ministers will descend on New York this week for one of the busiest gatherings on the diplomatic calendar, arriving at a United Nations confronting wars in the Middle East and Ukraine, economic pressure from disrupted energy markets and fresh questions about the institution’s ability to respond to an increasingly fractured world.

The U.N. expects 73 heads of state and 45 heads of government, alongside 49 ministers, 11 vice presidents and one crown prince, U.N. spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric told reporters Friday. Member states have already submitted roughly 1,000 requests for bilateral meetings, while 168 events are scheduled during high-level week, according to Dujarric.

Asked Friday to characterize the atmosphere inside U.N. headquarters as the delegations prepare to arrive, Dujarric described it simply as "high stress."

The General Debate of the 81st U.N. General Assembly begins Tuesday, Sept. 22, under the theme, "Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all."

But beneath the speeches, motorcades and closed-door meetings across Manhattan is another competition: nearly every government represented in New York will be trying, in one way or another, to capture the attention of the United States.

"This is their moment to grab a piece of American mindshare for sure," Frank Ahrens, head of BGR Analytics, told Fox News Digital.

A new analysis released ahead of UNGA attempts to measure which countries already have it.

The 2026 BGR Impact Index, produced by BGR Analytics, the data practice of Washington-based BGR Group, ranks 197 countries and economies according to their overall footprint in the United States, combining economic, cultural, diplomatic, institutional and geopolitical measures. Japan holds the top position for a third consecutive year, followed by Germany, Canada, the United Kingdom and South Korea.

That competition is especially consequential this year.

President Donald Trump will return to the General Assembly on Tuesday with the US-Iran war entering its seventh month, while fighting involving the Iran-backed Houthis has placed new pressure on shipping through the Red Sea and raised fresh concerns among Gulf states about regional security. Reuters reported Sept. 18 that European and Asian allies have largely resisted U.S. calls to become more directly involved in the Iran conflict and that the prolonged war has strained Washington’s relationships with some partners.

The stakes extend well beyond Iran. The General Assembly agenda is expected to be dominated also by Russia’s war against Ukraine, Israeli-Palestinian tensions, Sudan, climate change and artificial intelligence. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov are among the prominent leaders or representatives expected to speak.

That combination of military power, diplomatic access and public perception gets at the central question behind BGR’s index: what does influence actually mean?

BGR compiled more than 100 indicators, ranging from GDP, population and foreign investment to international students, cultural presence and lobbying activity in Washington.

But one of the most consequential variables in this year’s analysis came from a much newer arena: social media.

"We looked at 4.9 trillion pieces of data across an entire year because we know that a social media campaign can really move a country's perception in the U.S.," Ahrens said. "And that was really the big takeaway from this year's index."

Social-media sentiment accounts for 20% of the index, second only to cultural imprint at 24%. Institutional ties and outward orientation each make up 16%, geopolitical nexus accounts for 10%, economic size 8% and lobbying and Washington influence 6%. BGR says its underlying data comes from publicly available sources, primarily the U.N., U.S. government agencies and established research institutions, while its social-media data is supplied by Meltwater.

For smaller countries, the analysis suggests reputation can produce particularly large swings.

Bahrain was the biggest riser, climbing 22 places, from No. 97 in 2024 to No. 75 in 2026. BGR attributed much of that increase to improved U.S.-facing online sentiment and increased visibility tied to Bahrain’s election to a rotating U.N. Security Council seat, its Arabian Gulf Cup victory and a USS Nimitz port call.

Georgia moved in the opposite direction, falling 31 positions, from No. 73 to No. 104. BGR said its deteriorating U.S.-facing online sentiment coincided with political unrest and arrests of journalists and opposition leaders.

Ahrens acknowledged that generating attention is not the same as wielding political influence. "Countries that make a lot of noise about themselves do get on the radar, but to stay on the radar, you have to have real accomplishments."

The index attempts to address that distinction by combining sentiment with harder measures such as economic links, institutional rankings, lobbying expenditure and participation in international organizations.

Perhaps BGR’s most unusual example of how national perception can change did not come from a president, diplomat or lobbying operation.

It came from a German soccer fan.

BGR calls it the "Freddy Effect," after a German World Cup visitor whose enthusiastic posts about traveling through the United States went viral this summer.

Ahrens said BGR found that positive sentiment toward Germany increased 13% over roughly three weeks during Freddy’s rise online. BGR links a substantial part of that increase to the reaction generated by his posts, although the data does not independently establish that he alone caused the change.

"Can you recreate a Freddy? I don't know if you can reverse engineer him to that effect," Ahrens said. "But what it shows you is how authentic communication really breaks through on social media."

The deeper question is political and historical: Who governs Iran? Is it Mojtaba Khamenei, whose position at the apex of the system remains opaque; Masoud Pezeshkian, whose office of president was never designed to hold sovereign power; or the IRGC, which after decades of accumulating military, intelligence and economic authority may have become the state’s true center of gravity?

Iran increasingly resembles not a Shiite theocracy protected by soldiers, but a militarized dictatorship in which the notorious clerical establishment provides ideological cover for the men with guns.

The Shiite Republic or Islamic Caliphate of mullahs emerged from the bleak winter of 1979 promising salvation and delivering coercion. Khomeinism turned political Islam into state power and terrorism, proxy warfare and revolutionary expansion into instruments of foreign policy. For nearly half a century, Tehran built armed transnational terrorist networks abroad while suffocating political life at home.

Economic pressure may accelerate the regime’s exhaustion, but the deeper crisis is political and psychological: the widening gulf between a society seeking a place in the modern world and a ruling establishment imprisoned by the fears and obsessions of 1979.

Another uprising therefore cannot be excluded. No one can predict when humiliation overcomes fear and private anger becomes public defiance; history rarely announces revolutions in advance. Iran is under immense pressure: grievances have accumulated, the regime’s legitimacy has eroded, and successive uprisings have not been erased because repression has quieted the streets. The regime has contained anger, but not the conditions that produced it. Silence should never be mistaken for consent.

Yet the collapse of dictatorship and the birth of democracy are different historical events. Between them lies the dangerous terrain of transition. Iran’s next political order must be chosen by Iranians at the ballot box, not manufactured in Washington, Jerusalem, Moscow or Beijing.

Nor does every opposition faction carry equal political weight or vision. In my assessment, Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi occupies a distinctive position through his national visibility and advocacy of secular government, territorial integrity and democratic transition. His role and Iran’s constitutional future — republic or constitutional monarchy — must be decided by Iranians. Regime change should restore a nation’s right to choose, not merely destroy an old order.

Nor would the Islamic Republic’s collapse automatically bury the ideologies that have poisoned Iranian politics for decades. Islamism, authoritarian Marxism, sectarianism and separatism would compete for the vacuum. Democracy requires citizenship above ideology, national belonging above faction and the state above revolutionary militias. Iran’s transition will be difficult because the Islamic Republic has spent decades destroying the institutions a peaceful transition would need.

Washington’s record deserves scrutiny. Successive administrations have oscillated between confrontation and the hope that another negotiation might alter the regime’s character. Diplomacy can prevent wars, but the illusion begins when a tactical bargain is mistaken for strategic transformation. Tehran has learned to negotiate in one room while applying pressure in another, speaking diplomacy while preserving asymmetric warfare. A regime’s method of survival should not be confused with a change in its nature.

Tehran may calculate that America’s political calendar will restrain Washington before the November midterms. But Nov. 3 cannot define American national security. A regime fighting for survival may become more dangerous as its options narrow. Negotiation may alter Tehran’s tactics, but asymmetric pressure and deniable violence have been tools of its statecraft for decades.

The deeper lesson reaches back to 1979. Washington misunderstood not only the revolutionaries seizing power but the institutional rupture they were about to impose on one of the Middle East’s oldest nations. It was more than an intelligence failure; it was a failure of political imagination.

Nearly half a century later, America should not again imagine only two futures — accommodation with the Islamic Republic or chaos after it. Serious statecraft should prepare for a third: political transition that preserves Iran’s territorial integrity, national identity and continuity as a unified state.

The growing security cooperation among the United States, Israel and Arab states belongs within that horizon. Saudi Arabia faces Iran-backed armed groups, including the Houthis, while Israel and Arab governments confront overlapping security threats. Deeper cooperation — and potentially broader normalization through the Abraham Accords — could build a regional order less vulnerable to proxy warfare and transnational militias.

Any regional strategy begins with understanding Iran itself. American and Israeli policymakers — and the intelligence communities that inform them — should distinguish democratic Iranian nationalism from Islamist, Marxist, sectarian and separatist movements offering different futures for the country.

Iran’s territorial integrity and credible democratic actors should be understood before transition begins, not after institutions collapse. History is unforgiving toward governments that prepare for yesterday’s crisis; the worst morning to search for reliable Iranian interlocutors is the morning after a dictatorship loses control.

China embodies the final contradiction. Foreign Minister Wang Yi calls for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and preventing the war from spreading into Yemen and the Red Sea. Beijing’s anxiety is understandable: Middle Eastern energy arteries are also arteries of the Chinese economy. Yet China cannot demand stability while maintaining close ties with Tehran and avoiding confrontation over conduct that undermines it. Beijing wants open shipping lanes without confronting the forces threatening them — a policy that manages symptoms while leaving the disease untouched.

Hormuz, the Houthis, Tehran’s terrorist proxy networks, sanctions and war are not separate crises. They are consequences of the revolutionary order born in 1979, when ideology became an instrument of domestic rule and foreign policy. GOP takes aim at Congress' next 'get filthy rich' loophole after stock-trading ban

EXCLUSIVE: While the House successfully moved to rein in lawmakers' stock trading, a California Republican is targeting what she says is another avenue for congressional self-enrichment, citing members whose wealth has multiplied over the years.

Rep. Young Kim's Stop Congressional Self-Enrichment Resolution comes after a successful GOP-led effort in July that imposed restrictions on stock purchases and requires several days' notice before stock sales. It also comes as Americans across the political spectrum remain frustrated by many lawmakers' rapidly growing wealth while in public office.

"It could be earmarking a nonprofit organization where a member’s spouse sits on the board of directors or board of trustees, so it will indirectly benefit the family. Or it could earmark for a park at, let's say, an apartment building that a member or member's spouse or member’s children owns," Kim told Fox News Digital.

SENATE QUIETLY BANS LAWMAKERS FROM BETTING ON PREDICTION MARKETS

"And with the federal funds that the member brings and build the park nearby or community center nearby, it could increase the property value and therefore indirectly benefiting the member and their family members. Maybe asking to build a road up to rural land the member owns."

Her new push would cover all material financial interests — direct or indirect — that benefit people beyond the lawmaker themselves.

UNLIKELY BIPARTISAN SENATE DUO SEEKS TO PERMANENTLY BAN EX-LAWMAKERS FROM LOBBYING

Current House rules require members requesting an earmark to certify that neither they nor their spouses have a financial interest in the recipient. Kim's bill would extend that requirement to immediate family members and indirect financial interests, such as nearby property values.

"The days of members thinking that ‘I can use the community project funding request or bringing the earmarks for my district and get filthy rich off of it’— those days are numbered."

"This is a good time because we see Americans are sick and tired of watching politicians getting filthy rich while average Americans are worrying about making ends meet and stretch every dollar that they earn."

Citing the "Bridge to Nowhere" project in Alaska's Inside Passage in the early 2000s as a symbol of concerns over earmarks, Kim said the ensuing decade-long moratorium curbed abuse.

Kim said safeguards put in place after the moratorium have helped, but argued members are still able to provide themselves with indirect benefits. She reiterated that she is not targeting any individuals.

While there are now apps out there like the "Pelosi Stock Tracker" and others that let retail investors see which stocks are being bought or sold by which members, Kim said her effort does not target any one colleague.

"And, this is not in any way discouraging members to fight for their districts and bring in the appropriate taxpayer dollars for projects near their districts," she said.

"That is so important," she said, pointing to funding she brought to Orange County to prevent and recover from recent wildfires, among other interests for her constituents.

"That's what we are sent to do, fight for our district, but not at the expense of, you know, enriching. I mean, not at the expense of hurting our very constituents that we are trying to support while we are lining our pockets, because there are too many career politicians in Washington looking out for no one but themselves."

Innumerable lawmakers have come under fire over the decades for their earmarking prowess.

In one notable case, then-House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., faced criticism in 2006 over a $207 million earmark to build a parkway near property he owned.

Amid the kerfuffle, an attorney for the leader pushed back on what he called a "libelous" allegation from a good-government group about it at the time. The attorney said criticizing Hastert for the project was akin to "complaining about a purchase in Alexandria based on renovations at the Capitol."

GOP LAWMAKER UNDER HOUSE ETHICS REVIEW BLASTS 'BASELESS' INVESTIGATION

In 2023, the Boston Globe reported that earmarks secured by Rep. Stephen Lynch, D-Mass., benefited a health center in Boston where his wife was employed.

Two million dollars went to the South Boston Community Health Center, and another $1 million went to a foundation where Lynch’s wife was an unpaid director. Fox News Digital reached out to Lynch for comment.

Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., previously secured earmarks totaling $3.5 million for George Mason University, where his wife had served as interim president and later as a professor.

The earmarks "are in no way influenced by Secretary Holton," a Kaine spokesperson told The Messenger news outlet at the time — referencing former Virginia Education Secretary Anne Holton.

"Secretary Holton has no involvement in the [Congressionally Directed Spending] CDS process, and no involvement in the George Mason CDS requests," the spokesperson added. "Senator Kaine and Secretary Holton have not discussed the requests."

With the Senate next to take up stock trading prohibitions, Kim’s bill stands as a gap closer, she said, on a practice that has rare emphatic bipartisan support.

Trump should press Xi on China’s persecution of believers at home and abroad

"A China without religious freedom is a China we cannot accept," Pastor Ezra Jin told a small group gathered on Capitol Hill shortly after he was freed from a Chinese prison. President Donald Trump had raised Jin’s case with Chinese President Xi Jinping at their May summit. Weeks later, Jin was free.

But why was he in jail in the first place?

He pastored the Zion Church in Beijing, an independent Christian house church outside the control of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

PASTOR FREED FROM CHINESE PRISON AFTER TRUMP RAISED HIS CASE WITH XI JINPING

Any and all religious groups in China must come under the control of the CCP or be subject to harassment, arrest, closure or worse. Forced organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners has been well documented. Falun Gong is a Chinese spiritual movement that the CCP particularly singles out for harsh treatment.

Ten Chinese Catholic bishops — 10 — are currently in some form of detention in China for refusing to toe the CCP line. Cardinal Joseph Zen of Hong Kong was recently convicted of failing to properly register a charity fund. He is 94 years old and has been a respected leader in Hong Kong for decades, but not anymore in Xi’s China. Zen does not support the secret deal between the Chinese government and the Vatican over the appointment of Catholic bishops in China.

The Panchen Lama, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, the second-highest spiritual authority in Tibetan Buddhism, was abducted by the Chinese government 31 years ago. His current location is still unknown.

Details differ, but the underlying pattern is the same. Religious leaders and communities not controlled by Beijing face intimidation, detention, disappearance or worse.

Beijing’s oppression doesn’t stop at its own borders.

The CCP is increasingly waging a campaign of harassment, disinformation and lawfare — called transnational repression — against religious and political dissidents in the United States. Falun Gong practitioners alone have suffered nearly 300 bomb and death threats. Not to mention the persecution of them still raging within China itself, where more than 5,000 confirmed deaths of Falun Gong practitioners have been recorded since the crackdown began in 1999.

Just days ago, Anthropic reported disrupting China-based intelligence operations using its Claude AI platform to build surveillance dossiers on overseas dissidents and Tibetan Buddhist, Falun Gong, Christian and Uyghur communities, including the U.S. Beijing has a proven pattern of exploiting American institutions and technology to harass and oppress dissidents who had thought they had reached the safety of America.

Xi is scheduled to be in Washington starting on Sept. 24. Trump should make this system of coercion and control a point of discussion. Countries that won’t even allow their own people to worship freely are not reliable trading partners and certainly not countries we want to prop up with our dollars. They may provide us with cheap goods, but our souls, and those of others, are not for sale at any price.

Communism officially denies the existence of God and establishes government as the highest authority in the universe. Therefore, everything is under its control unless it specifically permits freedom. A person’s rights come from the government, not from God or anywhere else.

TRUMP SAYS CHINESE PRESIDENT XI JINPING WILL VISIT US ON SEPT 24

Communists, authoritarians and totalitarians figured out long ago that "religious people" must be controlled because they choose to answer to a higher authority — an allegiance that fortifies their willingness to confront and defy government when it is in the wrong, even at the cost of their property, freedom or lives.

Sounds like the kind of people we want to advocate for! Think of the Jewish refuseniks and evangelicals of the late Soviet era who confronted that evil regime, or the Christians in Burma who stand against the ruling military junta today.

But freedom comes at a cost. That’s why it’s so precious.

The cost to us is not our freedom, as it is for the Chinese Christians, Buddhists, Falun Gong practitioners or Uyghur Muslims. It is our willingness to stand up to China.

Trump is the first president since John F. Kennedy to confront China, and he should be applauded for it — and encouraged to go further. He raised tariffs on an evil Communist regime that seeks world dominance. He has confronted and weakened China’s allies in Iran, Venezuela, Cuba and elsewhere.

He should continue to exert that leverage on behalf of people whose only offense is refusing to place their faith on the altar of the Chinese Communist Party. Now is the time to confront the CCP’s extensive apparatus of religious oppression — just as Reagan confronted the Soviet system — and make clear that the Chinese people should not have to choose between their faith and freedom.

A new number inside the latest Fox News national poll could bolster Republican midterm messaging as they work to hold their fragile congressional majorities amid an extremely rough political climate in this autumn's elections.

The figure: 55% of registered voters hold an unfavorable view of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), while only three in 10 see the DSA in a positive light.

The Fox News poll is the latest national survey to show that while the DSA has gained traction among Democrats, the group and the broader socialist movement in America face significant national skepticism.

The figures appear to reinforce a key element in the GOP midterm playbook, which aims to turn what's normally a referendum on the party in power into a choice election.

Republicans, pointing to the surge this year by progressive and socialist candidates over centrist and establishment-backed rivals in the Democratic Party primaries, are painting all Democrats on the ballot this year as far-left radicals.

President Donald Trump, at this month's GOP midterm convention, argued that there is a "communist" takeover of the Democratic Party.

"In state after state, the Democrat establishment has been overthrown and replaced by crazed lunatics and radicals. They call themselves Democrat socialists, but actually, they’re communists," Trump said.

House Speaker Mike Johnson recently told Fox News Digital, "This really is a contrast election between common sense candidates... and crazy, and that's what the other side represents."

Democrats disagree and say the midterms will be won or lost over inflation.

"Republicans are facing record-low approval numbers and have no midterm message after spiking costs, raising gas prices, and driving up inflation," Democratic National Committee Deputy Communications Director Kendall Witmer told Fox News Digital.

But some moderate Democrats are concerned.

"I think it’s a big problem," Ty Strong said as he referred to the Republican midterm strategy.

Strong, founder and president of the Moderate PAC, told Fox News the midterms "should be a much bigger wave, but I don’t think it’s going to be as big as it could have been if we didn’t have this DSA and attacks that Republicans are going to use."

Referring to the Republican strategy, Jackson argued, "I think they’re reaching for things. I think the DSA issue is something they’re trying to make something, but it is not."

They tried to do that for Bernie, and now he’s the most popular senator and politician in America," added Jackson, a grassroots organizer best known for his leadership roles in Sanders' 2016 and 2020 presidential campaigns.

Every two years, Washington performs the same ritual. The out-of-power party smells blood, the pundits write the eulogy early and by October the outcome seems like a foregone conclusion. But the history behind that confidence is more complicated than most imagine. What matters most in 2026 is not the electoral math — it’s what the party asking for power actually plans to do if they win.

Over the last 80 years, the president's party has lost seats in the U.S. House of Representatives in 18 of 20 midterm elections. Political scientists call it the thermostat effect: Hand one party control of government, and the electorate instinctively seeks a counterweight, regardless of performance.

Voter turnout compounds the challenge for the incumbent party. The winners tend to relax, while the losing side stays angry and shows up to the polls. Presidential elections offer a choice between two visions; midterms become a referendum on the party in charge.

REPORTER'S NOTEBOOK: HOUSE CONTROL COULD HINGE ON WHETHER THE OLD POLITICAL RULES STILL APPLY

This time, Republicans are also defending unusually narrow ground. Democrats only need a net gain of five seats to flip the majority. At the same time, our nation is grappling with a political moment with no clean precedent. Analysts keep applying old maps to new terrain. President Donald Trump is only the second president in American history to serve nonconsecutive terms. The outlook looks considerably more promising for Republicans. The electoral map underwent more changes in this election cycle than any in recent memory. Texas led the charge, redrawing its lines to the tune of five additional safe Republican seats. California countered with a map of its own, albeit favoring Democrats.

The rest of the nation saw mixed results. Missouri, Ohio, North Carolina and Indiana moved right. Utah's court-ordered map favors Democrats. Virginia's attempted gerrymander was struck down entirely. The Supreme Court’s decision to leave both the Texas and California maps intact effectively canceled out the biggest moves on either side. The end result is a map that still tilts slightly Republican on net. Forecast models built on this terrain currently lean Democratic, but a lean is far from a lock.

When voters head to the polls, they will reckon with one defining question: What are Democrats actually offering? On the trail, it is affordability, groceries, rent and healthcare, because it's real and it polls. But the gap between that message and the governing record is already visible where Democrats hold power.

Virginia Democrat Gov. Abigail Spanberger ran as the affordability governor after telling voters in writing she had no plans to redistrict the state, calling gerrymandering "detrimental to our democracy." She followed it with a ban on a wide range of semiautomatic rifles and magazines that two judges have since blocked. One found it likely unconstitutional and delayed implementation until 2027 at the earliest. Meanwhile, the Justice Department is suing to kill the measure permanently. None of that was a grocery bill.

REDISTRICTING GIVES REPUBLICANS AN EDGE, BUT AFFORDABILITY WILL DECIDE THE MIDTERMS

Michigan's Abdul El-Sayed built his Senate campaign on lowering healthcare costs through Medicare for All. Asked on "Meet the Press" whether people earning under $1 million would pay higher taxes under his plan, he didn't deny it. In fact, he called the trade-off "worth making."

Democrats are simply not focused on the kitchen table issues that win elections. Nationally, reporting from CNBC, Fox News and CNN over the past month confirms what House Democrats are actually planning if they take control of the House.

Presley's death was confirmed by Cindy’s representative to Fox News Digital, sharing a statement from the family: "The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time."

According to online records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Gerber died Sunday at a rehabilitation facility.

Manhunt underway in California after armed suspect allegedly points gun at people, shoots at officers

Deputies in California are searching for a man believed to be armed and dangerous after allegedly murdering a woman and shooting at others, according to authorities.

Derek Spencer, 44, is wanted for several felonies, including pointing a firearm at people in Placer County on Sunday, according to the Placer County Sheriff's Office. Authorities said Spencer was initially wanted after allegedly pointing a firearm at people earlier Sunday.

During the search for Spencer earlier on Sunday, deputies found him in the Iowa Hill area. Spencer rammed a patrol vehicle before fleeing the area, triggering the manhunt.

Spencer also fired shots at law enforcement officers and helicopters assisting law enforcement. No law enforcement officers were injured during the search for Spencer.

Everyone in the Iowa Hill area is urged to lock their doors and remain inside.

In an update on Sunday night, the sheriff's office said the search remained ongoing, noting the search is very challenging due to the area being very large, with dense forest and steep, rugged terrain.

But during the search, deputies located a murder victim they believe was killed by Spencer.

"As tactical teams worked to clear a home where Spencer had been earlier in the search, they located an adult female who had been shot and killed inside the home. At this point in the investigation, it’s believed Spencer murdered the woman before fleeing into the surrounding forest," deputies said.

The sheriff's office is being assisted by multiple other law enforcement agencies.

"Teams will continue searching throughout the night and will not slow down as we work to locate this armed and very dangerous individual," the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office described Spencer as a bald man with a goatee.

Missing Carnival Panorama passenger jumped overboard off Mexico's coast

A passenger traveling on a Carnival Panorama cruise jumped overboard as the ship was wrapping up the last full day of a week-long sailing.

The cruise departed Long Beach, California, on September 13 and was headed back there from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, when a male passenger jumped overboard, according to the cruise line.

"Carnival Cruise Line confirmed Saturday that a male guest aboard Carnival Panorama jumped overboard while the ship was sailing from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to Long Beach, California," a Carnival Cruise Line spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

"When notified of a missing guest, the ship's team initiated search and investigation procedures, including reviewing CCTV footage and notifying both the U.S. and Mexico Coast Guards," the statement continued.

The spokesperson said the company is providing support to the family who was traveling with the guest.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones," the statement reads.

CARNIVAL CRUISE PASSENGER, 67, FOUND DEAD WHILE SNORKELING OFF THE COAST OF AUSTRALIA DURING EXCURSION

According to a Reddit user who said they were aboard the sailing, announcements regarding a missing guest were heard at around 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Carnival Panorama had departed from its last port of call on the sail, Puerto Vallarta, at 8 p.m. on Thursday.

The call for the missing guest was repeated several times over the next several hours. At about 3 p.m., the ship reportedly turned around.

Another announcement was made at about 3:30 p.m. that there would be a shipwide search, and all guests were told to return to their staterooms.

Security visited each of the staterooms to scan guests' ship identification cards, which is a standard procedure in the event of a search.

An hour later, another announcement suggested the search was continuing, and guests were instructed to remain in their staterooms.

At around 5 p.m., the captain and cruise director said the guest had been confirmed overboard after a review of onboard cameras, adding that local authorities would continue the search and rescue operation and guests were no longer required to stay in their staterooms.

The family and traveling companions of the missing guest were notified of his disappearance and were offered support from the care team.

Shortly after 7 p.m., guests were told that the ship was expected to reach Long Beach at 9 a.m.
