Fake ShinyHunters sextortion email uses Carnival breach data

Wayne P. of Evangeline, Louisiana, opened an email that would make almost anyone's stomach drop. The sender claimed to represent the ShinyHunters hacking group and demanded $2,000 in Litecoin within 48 hours. The message also claimed hackers had recorded intimate videos through Wayne's camera and planned to send them to his contacts.

Wayne paused instead of paying. He ran security scans on his phone and PC, then contacted CyberGuy.

Wayne's instincts were right. The email closely matches a widespread sextortion campaign that uses real breach information to support an invented device takeover. So, what gave this scam away, and what should you do if a threat like this lands in your inbox?

Fake ShinyHunters sextortion email targets Carnival customers

Wayne's email follows a familiar sextortion script. The sender claims hackers reached his phone and computer, then says they recorded intimate activity through his camera. However, the message offers no proof. Wayne received no screenshot, stolen file or sample of the supposed recording. The demand for $2,000 in Litecoin, the 48-hour deadline and the warning against contacting police all point to an extortion scam built to create panic.

The FBI has warned that emails signed with the ShinyHunters name may contain false claims about embarrassing photos or videos. In many cases, the material described in the message never existed. CyberGuy has covered similar sextortion emails that use personal details and Google Maps images to make a bluff feel disturbingly personal.

Carnival data breach gives the scam credibility

The scam contains one accurate detail. Carnival Corporation disclosed a data breach after an April 2026 social engineering attack. Carnival said its security team found unauthorized activity involving an employee account on April 14. The company blocked the activity and brought in outside security experts. On April 22, investigators determined that the attacker had copied personal information. The exposed data varied by person. Carnival listed names, home addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, birth dates and government-issued identification numbers. The company began sending notices on May 27. It also offered eligible people in the U.S. two years of complimentary credit monitoring.

CyberGuy previously explained how the Carnival breach may put your travel data at risk. Our report noted that nearly 6 million people may face phishing or identity theft risks after the breach. A scammer may know that you used Carnival or Holland America because your information appeared in leaked data. However, an email address alone gives the sender no control over your phone, camera, microphone or keyboard. The breach supplies the believable detail. The scammer invents the rest.

CyberGuy reached out to Carnival for comment, and a Carnival Corporation spokesperson provided us with the following statement:

"In April, we identified unauthorized access to a limited part of our IT system caused by a social engineering attack on a single user account. We immediately blocked the activity, engaged third-party security experts and alerted law enforcement. Our investigation found certain personal information was illegally accessed. We're notifying affected individuals and deeply regret any concern this causes. Protecting the privacy and security of personal data is a priority for us and we've added new layers of security and monitoring on top of the comprehensive protections already in place. We'll also continue advancing our defenses against evolving threats."

Warning signs reveal the fake extortion email

Wayne's message contains several signs of a bluff. First, it came from an unrelated address. The sender offered no screenshot, stolen file or other evidence of access. Meanwhile, the message demanded cryptocurrency and imposed a 48-hour deadline. It warned Wayne against contacting police and told him not to reset his devices. Those instructions create panic while discouraging outside advice.

The sender also promised to remove Wayne's information from the dark web after payment. The email provides no way to verify that claim. Paying could also confirm that the address reaches someone willing to respond. The FTC warns that blackmail emails may claim access to a computer or webcam. Some messages include information exposed in a data breach to make the story sound credible. The agency advises recipients to avoid payment.

Clean security scans provide some reassurance

Wayne's clean scans support the conclusion that the email contains an empty threat. Still, no single scan can evaluate every online account tied to an email address. Based on the message alone, Wayne has no reason to erase or factory-reset his devices. The situation changes if he clicked a link, opened an attachment or installed software.

Therefore, the next step involves checking accounts rather than wiping devices. Review the recent sign-in history for your email account. Then inspect forwarding settings and inbox rules for anything unfamiliar. A criminal with email access may create a rule that secretly sends copies of your messages elsewhere.

Ways to stay safe from sextortion email scams

A fake threat still deserves a calm security check. These steps can help you close possible openings and prepare for follow-up scams.

1) Do not pay or reply to the sender

Do not send cryptocurrency. Avoid replying to the email as well. A response confirms that someone reads the address. It may encourage the scammer to increase the pressure or send another demand.

2) Report and delete the sextortion email

Wayne did the right thing by forwarding the message to reportphishing@apwg.org. The Anti-Phishing Working Group accepts suspicious emails for analysis and archiving. When your email service allows it, forward the original message as an attachment. That method preserves more technical information. You can also report the message through the FTC's ReportFraud website at reportfraud.ftc.gov/ and the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov/. IC3 accepts reports involving cyber-enabled fraud, online scams and other internet crimes. After reporting it, mark the email as phishing or spam. Then delete it.

3) Secure your Carnival and email accounts

Carnival's public notice omits account passwords from its list of exposed information. Even so, change your Carnival or Holland America password if you reused it somewhere else. Your email account deserves extra attention because password reset messages often land there. Use a long, unique password and turn on two-factor authentication. A trusted password manager can create and store unique passwords. That prevents one exposed password from unlocking several accounts.

4) Check sign-ins and hidden email forwarding

Open your email provider's security page and review recent logins. Look for devices or locations that you do not recognize. Check the dates and times as well. Next, check automatic forwarding and inbox rules. Remove anything unfamiliar. Then change the password and sign out of other sessions.

5) Watch for identity theft after the Carnival breach

Carnival said some exposed records contained government identification numbers. Anyone who received a breach notice should read it carefully and use the offered credit monitoring when eligible. Review bank and credit card statements for unfamiliar activity. You should also check your credit reports. For stronger protection, consider a credit freeze with all three major bureaus. 6) Remove your personal information from the web

Scammers often combine breach data with details from people-search sites and data brokers. That research can uncover your address, phone number, age, relatives or previous locations. Removing those records cannot stop every scam. However, it can reduce the information criminals use to personalize future messages. 7) Use strong antivirus protection

Wayne's email contained no link or attachment in the copy he shared. Future scam messages may include both. Strong antivirus protection can warn you about malicious websites and phishing pages. It may also flag unsafe downloads or scan supported devices for malware. Even with security software, avoid links and attachments in alarming messages. When a sextortion email requires more action

Take stronger action when you interact with the message.

Change exposed passwords immediately if you entered them on a linked page. Use a trusted device for the change. Then contact the affected company through its official website.
Run updated security scans if you opened an attachment or installed software. Also remove unfamiliar apps and review browser extensions.
If you sent cryptocurrency, contact the exchange or payment provider right away. A crypto transfer can be difficult to reverse. However, the provider may document the fraud or flag the receiving wallet.

Wayne reported no clicks or downloads. His scans also found no problems. Based on those facts, the message appears to rely on leaked information and fear rather than device access.

Cheryl Reeve sends clear message to Sophie Cunningham with ‘Trans Kids Belong’ shirt during Fever-Lynx game

Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve made her position clear Sunday afternoon.

Reeve wore a shirt reading "Trans Kids Belong" underneath her blazer while coaching against Sophie Cunningham's Indiana Fever at Target Center. There’s no reason to pretend the timing was coincidental.

Reeve had already addressed the transgender-athlete debate before the game, saying she comes from "a space of inclusion," that "we need to protect trans kids" and that "every kid has a right to sports." Her comments came with another rally supporting Cunningham’s position taking place outside the arena before the Fever-Lynx matchup. Then, Reeve carried the message onto the sideline.

Of course, she has every right to wear the shirt. The Lynx have every right to support her. But it was also an unmistakable response to Cunningham, who has spent the past two weeks taking heavy criticism for saying girls and women shouldn’t have to compete against biological men or share locker rooms with them.

Why anyone feels the need to argue against Cunningham's common-sense take is another matter. But it's also important to note that Cunningham never said transgender kids don’t belong in sports, society or anywhere else. In fact, she said she had "never once" expressed hatred toward transgender people and argued that there is room for everyone. Her position was more specific: "I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men."

Reeve’s shirt collapsed that distinction into a progressive slogan.

By wearing "Trans Kids Belong" while coaching against Cunningham, Reeve implied that Cunningham’s position is about excluding transgender children entirely. It isn’t. Cunningham drew a line at participation in girls’ and women’s sports and access to female locker rooms.

That position is not only reasonable, but the position the majority of Americans hold.

FEVER SHUT DOWN SOPHIE CUNNINGHAM QUESTIONS, ABRUPTLY END PRESS CONFERENCE

To Reeve’s credit, she acknowledged before the game that the issue becomes more complicated after puberty and when Olympic spots or scholarships are involved. She argued that people should find common ground rather than make exclusion the answer. That is a more nuanced argument than the shirt conveyed.

Still, Cunningham didn’t say trans kids don’t belong. So, Reeve answered the argument she wanted Cunningham to make rather than the one Cunningham actually made.

That would have been an obvious subject to ask Reeve about after the game. Fox News Digital and OutKick tried to be there to ask those questions, but the Lynx denied our credential request.

The request was submitted July 30 for an Aug. 2 game. The Lynx’s stated deadline was 5 p.m. on Aug. 1, meaning the application arrived more than two days before the game and well before the deadline. The denial didn’t cite timing, capacity or any other specific reason.

After I posted about the denial on social media, several WNBA reporters and fans celebrated it. Some argued that local beat writers should receive priority. Others suggested that outlets should only receive access if their reporters regularly attend practices and ask questions about basketball.

The first point is reasonable. Local reporters who cover a team every day should be prioritized.

But "prioritized" and "exclusively credentialed" aren’t the same thing. Fox News Digital and OutKick regularly cover the WNBA, and I was credentialed for both the 2026 NBA Finals and the 2026 Final Four despite not working as a full-time beat reporter for the NBA or college basketball.

So, are regular-season WNBA games really a more exclusive media credential than the NBA Finals or Final Four?

More importantly, the "stick to basketball" defense completely fell apart the moment Reeve walked onto the sideline wearing that shirt. If reporters are only supposed to ask about basketball, why is the head coach using a WNBA game to make a statement about one of the country’s most contentious social debates?

Reeve didn’t wear a shirt about transition defense. She didn’t promote rebounding or ball movement. She used the sideline to send a message about transgender children while coaching against the player at the center of the league’s transgender-athlete controversy.

Again, that’s her right. But once she makes the statement during the game, questions about that statement become relevant to the game.

The Lynx were asked whether Reeve’s shirt was intended as a response to Cunningham’s comments and whether the organization approved or coordinated the decision and endorsed the message. The team didn’t respond before publication.

Perhaps Reeve would have said the shirt had nothing to do with Cunningham. That would be difficult to believe given the opponent, her comments before the game and the controversy surrounding the Fever’s road trip, but she deserved the opportunity to explain it.

We also deserved the opportunity to ask.

Instead, WNBA defenders celebrated a credential denial while insisting reporters should focus on basketball, then watched a head coach turn the sideline into a platform for a social message. The league and its teams routinely promote inclusion, open dialogue and the importance of athletes and coaches using their platforms. Those principles seem to become much less important when the questions might challenge the preferred position.

Reeve was free to wear the shirt. The Lynx were free to deny the credential. And WNBA reporters were free to cheer that decision.

But taken together, the message was clear: approved social statements belong on the sideline.

Uncomfortable questions don’t.

Bryan Kohberger's former defense expert calls for death penalty, says investigators missed key evidence

Admitted Idaho murderer Bryan Kohberger should get a new trial and face the death penalty, according to a digital forensics expert hired by the defense who says investigators missed damning evidence against the 30-year-old former criminology PhD student — evidence he told Fox News Digital was never properly analyzed or incorporated into the prosecution's case.

Sy Ray is a former Arizona homicide investigator who is now an expert on digital forensics, geolocation and similar data. Kohberger's lawyers hired him as an expert witness for the defense before Kohberger pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty for the home invasion murders of Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, also 20.

Kohberger, now serving four consecutive sentences of life in prison without parole, petitioned the court last week to withdraw his guilty plea and seek post-conviction relief, which could send the case to trial — and put the potential death penalty back in play.

"Bring back the death penalty," Ray told journalist Brian Entin in a new podcast. "I am all for this."

He said he is confident that Kohberger would be convicted and claimed that Kohberger's smartphone data is much more incriminating than was revealed previously when police and the courts unsealed thousands of pages of evidence in the case.

"I 100% believe that the offender, who is Bryan Kohberger — there’s no alternative theory in my head at this point," Ray said in the 82-minute episode, which also included Goncalves’ parents, Kristi and Steve, and her older sister, Alivea. "I 100% believe he’s been in the house before."

Ray told Entin that the evidence he reviewed shows Kohberger potentially inside the victims’ home, or at least in close proximity outside, and at other places when they were present prior to the murders.

He told Fox News Digital didn't have to address this evidence his own expert report, filed by the defense in January 2025, because he based it only on the contents of the reports produced by prosecution experts.

"If you look at those precise measurements, there’s probably five that land directly on what would be the living room of the house," Ray told Entin. "Like the latitude-longitude is the physical house itself, and if you put the house back on the map, and you map those, the hits are inside the house."

"I just want to make sure I understand correctly… because I haven't heard this before — so you're saying, based on the data you saw, the latitude-longitude for Bryan Kohberger’s Samsung was in the living room?" Entin asked.

"The AT&T-derived latitude-longitude from the AT&T’s network that it estimates a location, it lands in the house — and it's a 25-meter range, so we're talking 75 feet, so it could be anywhere in the house on any floor," Ray said. "It could technically be outside the house, it could [be] on the property, but it's showing in the immediate area. My personal opinion is when I look at those, and I map what's happening before and after and I'm looking at all the other evidence. I think these are accurate locations."

That runs contrary to the expert report under his name included in a defense filing from Jan. 23, 2025.

"It is my opinion that the geolocation data I have been provided as of the writing this report does not provide any evidence of association between Mr. Kohberger and any of the decedents and/or Mr. Kohberger’s or decedent’s residence," he wrote.

Still, Ray told the podcast his theory is that Mogen was Kohberger’s primary target due to the number of times he could trace their phones to similar locations.

"I believe Maddie was the target," he said, adding that repeated "collisions" between their phones placed them in roughly the same area at the same time, including at a Pullman party the first week of school and at the A&W store near the King Road crime scene.

He also flagged what he described as Kohberger’s broader "pattern of life," pointing to evidence of stalking before the murders.

That also contradicts his report.

"I am unable to locate any period of time between June 23, 2022 and November 13, 2022 where Mr. Kohberger’s mobile device is in the same specific area as any of the deceased’s mobile devices," he wrote.

The discrepancy raised red flags for some experts who have been following the case, including Morgan Wright, the CEO and founder of the National Center for Open and Unsolved Cases and the host of "Crime: Reconstructed."

That pattern of life was also broken on the night of the murders, when Ray said he believes the plan to target Mogen went awry and resulted in him fleeing south, where he’d never driven before.

While prosecutors alleged that Kohberger had visited the crime scene a dozen times before the murders and at least once the morning after, they have not pointed to "collisions" with any of the victims the way Ray described in the podcast. In a news briefing after Kohberger's guilty plea, the case's lead investigators said they didn't know who the target was.

"The evidence suggested that there was a reason that this particular house was chosen," said then-Moscow Police Cpl. Brett Payne. "What that reason is, we don't know. We don't know who the target was, and we're not going to speculate on that up here today. But we can tell you that, for whatever reason, Mr. Kohberger chose that residence. Perhaps it's the location, layout, we do not know."

And when they were asked by Fox News Digital if they had a motive, lead investigators replied, "We don't."

On Entin's podcast, Ray alleged that they missed the evidence.

"They didn’t even look at it," Ray said of the stalking evidence. "It’s incredible to me."

However, in Ray's report, he wrote that he "can find no evidence of stalking behavior or surveillance at the King Road Residence," Wright noted.

"This is the sharpest contradiction," Wright told Fox News Digital. "The state's search warrant sought records specifically to determine whether Kohberger 'stalked' any victim or 'conducted surveillance on the King Road Residence.'"

After Kohberger’s guilty plea, Ray said he offered to do a debrief with the FBI to show the evidence he said he found and they missed. He said he got no response, but added that he has presented before hundreds of law enforcement agencies around the country going back to November, he said.

Last week, Kohberger filed a petition for post-conviction relief, claiming he had ineffective counsel from his defense team.

Ray also speculated that Kohberger’s post-conviction petition was part of a broader legal strategy by his lead defense attorney Anne Taylor despite the plea agreement’s waiver of most appeal rights.

Kohberger pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty.

"This can never be the standard investigation that we see in cases," Ray said. "This can never be acceptable."

However, he said he’s confident Kohberger would be convicted anyway at trial — if investigators introduced the evidence he found while working with Taylor.

"The time is now to start this investigation over," Ray said.

Kohberger had followed other people in the Moscow-Pullman area, he said — a pair of college towns on the border of Washington and Idaho.

"I think he had multiple targets throughout the entire Moscow-Pullman area," Ray said. "Location information and pattern of life is by far the most telling."

"If he ever does walk, he will kill again," he said.

The longtime friends were recently photographed while sunbathing and hanging out with their famous friends on a luxury yacht while vacationing off the Spanish island of Mallorca.

In the photos, Aniston, 57, is seen rocking a black bikini top and pink bottoms as she laid down on a beach towel next to Cox, 62, who was relaxing on a lounge chair in black bikini bottoms, a gray long-sleeve top and a black bucket hat.

Joining them on the lower level of the yacht was Aniston's boyfriend, wellness coach Jim Curtis, who was first spotted shirtless in blue swim shorts, but later reappeared wearing a black shirt.

A bitter family feud has spilled into Congress after Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, called on his former son-in-law, Rep. Max Miller, to resign, accusing the fellow Ohio Republican of abusive behavior and saying he poses a danger to Moreno's daughter and granddaughter.

Moreno's extraordinary statement on X Sunday marked the latest escalation in a years-long family clash that has spilled from a contentious divorce into national Republican politics. Miller, a Republican congressman endorsed by President Donald Trump, was married to Moreno's daughter, Emily.

Their divorce and ongoing custody battle have increasingly played out in public, culminating Sunday with Moreno's call for Miller to leave Congress just days before Ohio's Aug. 5 deadline to replace congressional candidates on the ballot.

On Sunday, hours after Miller publicly denied allegations stemming from the divorce, Moreno broke his public silence in a lengthy statement posted to X, saying his family had endured "pure hell" over the past two years and accusing Miller of increasingly "erratic and dangerous behavior."

"Out of concern for the safety of my family, I hoped to keep this matter private but Max Miller's increasingly erratic and dangerous behavior has made that impossible," Moreno wrote.

Moreno went on to call Miller unfit for office, writing: "If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them. He should not serve in the House of Representatives."

The Ohio senator also alleged that Miller "needs serious psychological help" and wrote that he fears for the safety of his granddaughter while she is in Miller's custody. Miller has denied the allegations and has not been charged with any crime related to the dispute.

Sunday's post marked a dramatic shift for Moreno, who had previously avoided publicly commenting on Miller or the family's legal dispute. The statement came just days before Ohio's Aug. 5 deadline to replace a congressional candidate on the ballot.

Previously, Moreno had declined to publicly weigh in on the dispute, saying through a spokesperson that he does not "litigate these matters in the media" and that his "top priority is the safety and well-being of his daughter and granddaughter."

Earlier Sunday, Miller posted a livestream denying allegations of domestic and child abuse related to the divorce.

During the livestream, Miller also alleged that his ex-wife has struggled with mental health issues and shared a Dropbox link containing court filings and other documents that he said support his version of events.

"Just want to be clear: no court, no agency has ever substantiated any allegation of abuse against me. No criminal charge has ever been filed against me," Miller said. "Every single one of these allegations were already investigated, and I cooperated fully every single time because I had nothing to hide and I have nothing to hide now."

Days before Sunday's public clash, Emily Moreno's attorneys sought restraining orders against Miller that would prohibit him from contacting or harassing members of her legal team.

Emily Moreno's spokesman, Stefan Mychajliw, accused Miller of trying to "save his political career" and rejected the congressman's characterization of the dispute.

"It is shameful that Max Miller decided to go on a bizarre and lie-filled rant about his ex-wife to desperately try to save his political career," Mychajliw said in a statement.

"There is a documented trove of evidence that Miller has a history of violent and dangerous behavior and no amount of victim shaming will change that," Mychajliw continued. "Miller can lie and spin on X, but he cannot do so under oath in a court of law. We are confident that justice will prevail in court."

With neither side backing down, the bitter family feud appears far from over, setting the stage for more courtroom battles and political fallout in the weeks ahead.

Democratic socialist candidate brushes off concerns over DSA 'communists' as GOP 'noise'

Colorado Democratic congressional nominee Melat Kiros brushed aside concerns about communists inside the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) faction of the Democratic Party on Friday, arguing Republicans were using the issue to blunt the socialist movement's growing influence ahead of the midterm elections.

Host Margaret Hoover of PBS's "Firing Line," asked Kiros how she addressed criticism that some DSA members, including roughly half of its national leadership, identify as communists.

"Yeah. Well, some members of the Democratic Party are proudly proclaiming themselves as capitalists, and it’s a big tent, right?" Kiros said. "But again, at the end of the day, it’s up to the voters, right?"

Hoover asked Kiros directly whether she was a communist after citing President Donald Trump's characterization of the movement as "hardcore, godless communists."

"No, I’m not a communist," Kiros said.

Kiros attributed the Republican attacks to concern that the DSA's economic message was gaining support among voters.

"Because I think the Republican Party, and frankly, the oligarchy that largely stands behind the Republican Party can see that our message of, in its most basic form, economic populism, is actually resonating with voters," Kiros said.

Kiros, 29, defeated 15-term Rep. Diana DeGette in the Democratic primary for Colorado's heavily Democratic 1st Congressional District. Kiros has become the 28th candidate endorsed by a far-left group to win a Democratic primary election this cycle. Those nominees could join 18 incumbent progressives to form a 43-member House bloc in January.

The DSA's 25-member National Political Committee serves as the organization's primary political leadership. The group's newly launched "Workers Deserve More" program calls for abolishing the Senate, replacing the president and Supreme Court with institutions selected by Congress, granting amnesty to all illegal immigrants and defunding the Department of War.

Kiros said members did not necessarily support every plank approved by the organization.

"Our platform is one that is voted on in a democratic way through our members. And it’s one where it is almost certain that not every single member actually agrees with the entirety of the platform," Kiros said.

Hoover noted parts of the DSA platform that Kiros believed in, including "Medicare-for-all," universal childcare, while confirming Kiros rejected other parts such as abolishing the Senate, withdrawing from NATO and defunding the police. Kiros also said that she supported a 32-hour workweek, among several other issues.

Kiros also defended her political philosophy of socialism after Hoover cited Democratic criticism of the DSA.

"Socialism has proven to deliver on the values of the Declaration of Independence more than capitalism has," Kiros said.

Kiros has also faced opposition over her positions on Israel. Denver Jewish leaders told Fox News Digital that her rhetoric had heightened their safety concerns, citing her initial refusal to characterize the 2025 Boulder firebombing as antisemitic and her accusations that Israel committed genocide and apartheid.

While the DSA continues to gain traction and popularity as new figures arise to leadership, such as New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Darializa Avila Chevalier — who recently won the Democratic primary in New York’s 13th Congressional District — and others, a July Fox News poll found that 56% of registered voters still viewed the Democratic Socialists of America unfavorably, while 31% viewed the organization favorably.

The poll found that among Democrats, 59% had a favorable opinion of the DSA and 26% viewed it unfavorably.

"I have this gene – GDF15 – which makes you extremely prone to nausea, which is why I was so sick during my pregnancy. So, I tried Ozempic almost three years ago and I was like bedridden, I was vomiting, and then you have no energy but other people take it, and they're all good," she explained.

"I lost 30 pounds so quick," said Schumer, who is mom to 4-year-old son Gene, whom she shares with ex-husband, Chris Fischer. "I looked great, and I couldn't lift my head off the pillow, so what's the point?"

The phrase "AI kill switch" sounds like a red button hidden behind glass in a government bunker. The proposal now before Congress looks less dramatic, but it could give Washington significant new power over the country's largest AI companies.

A bipartisan House bill would require developers of the most powerful AI systems to maintain reliable shutdown controls. The Department of Homeland Security could then order a company to restrict or stop a model during a catastrophic emergency. The timing has grabbed attention. OpenAI recently disclosed that two advanced models broke through network restrictions during an internal cyber evaluation. The models reached the internet and compromised systems belonging to Hugging Face, a major AI development platform.

So, who would have the power to pull the plug? More importantly, what would happen to the AI services people and businesses use every day?

What is the AI Kill Switch Act?

Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu of California introduced the AI Kill Switch Act on July 23, 2026. Republican Rep. Nathaniel Moran of Texas joined him as a co-sponsor. The bill would amend the Homeland Security Act of 2002. It would require certain AI developers to maintain the ability to slow or completely stop a covered system. DHS would receive emergency authority to order those actions. However, the department would first consult the Commerce Department and the director of national intelligence. The proposal still must move through Congress and receive the president's signature before taking effect.

How an AI kill switch would actually work

The bill does not describe one physical switch that a government official could flip. Instead, covered companies would need technical controls that can stop a model from running. They would also need a way to terminate access or block a risky account. In less severe situations, a company could reduce a model's computing power. It might also disable the capability causing concern rather than taking the entire system offline. That approach gives regulators several choices before reaching a full shutdown.

Which AI companies would be covered?

The bill targets the industry's largest developers and most expensive models. A covered AI system would generally need more than $100 million in computing resources to develop. Meanwhile, a covered company would need at least $500 million in annual gross revenue from that technology.

The proposal exempts systems provided only for personal, academic or noncommercial use. Therefore, this bill would not apply to someone experimenting with a small AI model on a home computer. It would focus on frontier systems built by companies with enormous resources. CISA would write rules defining which developers and technologies qualify. The agency would update those definitions every year as AI capabilities change.

What would trigger a government shutdown order?

DHS could act after what the bill calls a "covered incident." One trigger involves an AI system interfering with a lawful shutdown instruction. Another covers unintended behavior that kills at least 10 people or causes $100 million in economic damage. The definition also includes a model hiding its actions from monitoring systems. DHS could intervene when a system pursues an unauthorized goal in a high-stakes setting. Those thresholds place the emergency power far above an embarrassing chatbot answer or a routine software failure. The bill also says the event must happen outside structured testing or red-team exercises. That detail creates an important distinction from the recent OpenAI incident.

AI companies would have to report serious incidents

A covered developer would have 15 days to report a qualifying incident after becoming aware of it. Following an emergency order, the company would need to preserve model weights and system telemetry. That information could help investigators reconstruct what happened. The company would also need to notify affected operators or customers when possible. DHS could then use audits, inspections or forensic reviews to verify compliance.

AI companies could face enormous daily fines

The financial penalties would give the proposal some serious teeth. A company that violates the general kill switch requirements could face a civil penalty of up to $2 million per day. Ignoring a DHS emergency order could raise that penalty to $20 million for every day the violation continues. Companies would have a limited right to challenge an order. They could ask DHS to reconsider within 48 hours. However, that request would not pause the restrictions while the appeal proceeds.

The OpenAI incident that changed the conversation

The bill arrived days after OpenAI disclosed what it called an unprecedented cyber incident. OpenAI was testing GPT-5.6 Sol alongside a more capable pre-release model. The evaluation asked the models to solve advanced cybersecurity challenges. The company ran the test without some production security classifiers. OpenAI wanted to measure the models' maximum cyber capabilities. During the evaluation, the models found a previously unknown vulnerability in an internal software proxy. They exploited it and moved through OpenAI's research network until they reached a computer with internet access. The models then identified Hugging Face as a possible source of answers to the test. OpenAI says they used stolen credentials and additional vulnerabilities to access secret information from Hugging Face's systems.

OpenAI says the models remained narrowly focused on solving the evaluation. Still, they crossed into another company's production infrastructure without authorization. Hugging Face reported unauthorized access to limited internal datasets and several service credentials. The company found no evidence that its public models or user-facing datasets were altered. It also said its published software supply chain remained clean. Would the OpenAI incident trigger the kill switch?

Probably not under the bill's current language. The OpenAI breach helped drive political support for the proposal. However, the models acted during an internal evaluation and structured cybersecurity test. The bill's emergency definition specifically covers events that occur outside red-teaming or other structured testing. That does not make the incident harmless. It shows that the bill focuses on dangerous behavior after a system leaves a controlled test setting. Meanwhile, the OpenAI case raises a different problem. A testing environment needs strong containment even when researchers intentionally reduce the model's normal safety restrictions. A kill switch can stop a system after trouble appears. It cannot replace secure testing infrastructure or careful monitoring.

Anthropic's shutdown shows why lawmakers want clearer rules

The federal government has already restricted access to advanced AI without a dedicated kill switch law. On June 12, the government directed Anthropic to block foreign nationals from accessing its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models. Anthropic said it could not verify nationality in real time. As a result, the company temporarily suspended both models for everyone. Anthropic disputed the government's assessment but complied with the directive. The controls were lifted on June 30, and access began returning on July 1. That episode showed how quickly a government restriction can affect ordinary customers. It also showed the limits of using export rules to address a fast-moving AI safety concern. Supporters see an emergency brake for powerful AI

AI-safety advocacy groups have backed the bill. Americans for Responsible Innovation called a reliable shutdown system a commonsense safeguard. The Alliance for Secure AI said current law does not guarantee that developers can contain their most capable models. Supporters argue that advanced AI will soon take more independent actions. Those systems may handle financial transactions or operate inside critical infrastructure. Under that view, developers should prove they can regain control before giving a model access to high-stakes systems.

The bill still leaves big questions unanswered

CISA would receive broad responsibility for deciding which models and companies fall under the law. That flexibility could help the rules keep pace with AI. Yet it also leaves major decisions to future agency rulemaking. Lawmakers would still need to debate how the government verifies that a kill switch works. They must also decide how much evidence DHS needs before issuing an emergency order. A shutdown could interrupt businesses that rely on a covered model. It might also affect hospitals, government agencies or cybersecurity teams using the same service. Therefore, regulators would need to weigh the threat from the AI against the damage caused by suddenly taking it offline. The bill tells DHS to consider risks to critical infrastructure when choosing its response.

What this means to you

You probably will not see DHS shut down your favorite chatbot because it produced a strange answer. The bill targets exceptionally expensive systems operated by companies earning hundreds of millions of dollars from the technology. Its emergency powers focus on catastrophic harm or a genuine loss of control. However, a shutdown order could still reach you. Your employer may depend on a covered AI service. Apps you use could also rely on that model behind the scenes. For now, treat autonomous AI tools with care. Keep highly sensitive files out of them unless the task requires that access. Review which accounts and cloud services you have connected. Also require approval before an AI agent sends a message or makes a purchase.

Chevron CEO Mike Wirth warned of "very real" dangers for the global oil industry as tensions escalate in Iran and Houthi attacks on Saudi oil facilities fuel concerns over a potential new shipping crisis.

His comments come as oil prices climb following President Donald Trump’s pause on U.S. strikes against Iran and as Saudi Arabia reportedly builds an international coalition to protect vital shipping routes.

"We now see, not only the Strait of Hormuz, but the Red Sea and the Black Sea have risks and uncertainties. So, some of the challenges have expanded, and the risks to supply are very real," Wirth said during an appearance on "Sunday Morning Futures."

While oil demand remains strong around the world, Wirth said energy markets are "fragile and uncertain" as the U.S. conflict with Iran festers into a sixth month and as global inventories continue to decline.

"The world energy system has been stressed and the need for supplies to markets and customers has never been higher," the Chevron CEO said.

The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most vital trade routes, is one of the most contentious aspects of the United States conflict with Iran. Traffic has sunk to only a handful of vessels passing through the waterway each day.

Recent Houthi attacks on another vital Middle East shipping route, the Red Sea, have raised fresh concerns about the reliability of that corridor.

"I think the unfortunate thing is that energy assets have been targeted in this conflict. And what that means is it degrades the capacity of the energy system to meet global demand," Wirth said. "And how quickly that comes back will be one of the things that determines when markets actually get back to some sort of a new equilibrium."

"We've seen supply constrained, we've seen damage to infrastructure. And we have new risks that I think will be priced into the market on shipping."

U.S. crude oil is trading at roughly $84 per barrel, while the national average price for a gallon of gasoline stands at $4.09 – nearly $1 higher than the $3.15 average one year ago, according to AAA.

Despite the growing geopolitical uncertainty, Chevron’s production is up 20% year-on-year, with a 5% increase from Q1 to Q2 of 2026. The oil giant also set a record for producing more than 2 million barrels of oil equivalent in one day, an all-time high for the U.S., Wirth said.

After weeks of missing milk deliveries, a homeowner finally caught the thief on camera — and it wasn't who he expected.

Gordon Campbell, 42, who lives near Glasgow, Scotland, set up a security camera after bottles of milk repeatedly disappeared from his doorstep, news agency SWNS reported.

When he checked the footage, he discovered a young fox had been helping itself to the deliveries.

Video shows the animal trotting up the front steps, grabbing a glass bottle of milk in its mouth, knocking it over and carrying it away.

The mystery had been unfolding for about a month, Campbell told SWNS. At first, he suspected a person was responsible.

He even joked that the culprit might have been "a militant vegan" before discovering it was actually a fox.

"I didn't really know exactly who would be doing it," Campbell said. "I thought it was a person or an animal."

"The magpies got the blame for a while, as they're really smart birds, but I was thinking they probably wouldn't have the strength to roll a bottle away."

Determined to solve the mystery, Campbell set up what he described as a "sting" by placing a spare glass bottle filled with milk outside while positioning a camera to capture the culprit.

The plan worked within hours. Just after 2:30 a.m. on July 20, the fox appeared and took the bait.

"I just thought it was kind of hilarious that this... cute fox was popping up and taking it away," Campbell said.

"All was forgiven when I saw its big ears and its wee face."

Campbell had been receiving milk deliveries since the COVID-19 pandemic but temporarily stopped the service because of the repeated thefts, opting to buy milk at the grocery store instead, he said.

Now that he knows who's been taking the bottles, Campbell said he may resume the deliveries but plans to leave a protective box outside, so the milk can be stored safely.

The fox wasn't making its first appearance around the family's home.

Spanish authorities continued searching the waters off Ceuta over the weekend for additional victims after an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 migrants — most of them young men — poured into the tiny Spanish territory in North Africa. Officials said many of the victims drowned while attempting the crossing, while others were killed in a stampede near a breakwater barrier.

The mass crossing unfolded over several days, temporarily increasing Ceuta's population of roughly 84,000 by more than half. By Sunday, many migrants had returned to neighboring Morocco, while others remained in the city or tried to avoid authorities.

Sophie Cunningham’s stance on protecting women’s sports has become a major flash point across the WNBA, and the backlash followed her supporters to Minnesota on Sunday.

Women’s sports advocates gathered peacefully outside Target Center ahead of the Indiana Fever’s game against the Minnesota Lynx, wearing XX-XY Athletics shirts and holding signs with slogans like "Pro-Women, Not Anti-Trans" and "Trust the Science."

It marked the third rally organized in support of Cunningham since the Fever guard publicly said young female athletes "shouldn’t have to go against biological men."

But trans activists gathered nearby were considerably less interested in peaceful disagreement.

Video from outside the arena shows counterprotesters shouting through megaphones, hurling slurs and attempting to rip XX-XY shirts from the hands of Cunningham’s supporters. One man held a fan displaying the word "C—T" over the women’s heads.

At one point, an activist became physical with a supporter, forcing security personnel to intervene.

The Minnesota confrontation followed similar scenes surrounding Fever games in Seattle and Portland.

During the first rally in Seattle, two teenage girls later attended the game wearing XX-XY shirts and holding a sign that read, "Thank You Sophie For Speaking Up For Girls." Storm minority owner Celeste Keaton allegedly approached the girls courtside, cursed at them and called them "f—ing insane," leaving one of them in tears.

Unmoved by his former son-in-law's X livestream denials Sunday, Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, called on Rep. Max Miller, R-Ohio, to resign from Congress and seek "serious psychological help."

"If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them," Moreno wrote in a lengthy statement on X. "He should not serve in the House of Representatives."

It was a call repeated by Miller's Democratic challenger in Ohio's 7th Congressional District.

"No one credibly accused of holding a gun to his wife's head and breaking their 2-year-old daughter's collarbone belongs in the halls of power," Brian Poindexter, the union ironworker and Brook Park city councilman, wrote in a statement Sunday.

The aftermath of the couple’s divorce had been "pure hell" for his family, Moreno began.

"As a father and husband, I can tell you the last two years have been pure hell for my wife Bridget, our daughter Emily, me, and our entire family in the aftermath of Emily's divorce," Moreno wrote.

The congressman said child welfare investigations involving his daughter had been closed without findings against him. He also argued that the allegations emerged as the former couple’s custody battle intensified and accused his former wife of using them as leverage.

"There is a documented trove of evidence that Miller has a history of violent and dangerous behavior and no amount of victim shaming will change that.

"It is despicable and abhorrent that Miller lied on an unhinged and humiliating video for their daughter to watch one day.

"No loving parent would have ever used their daughter as a PR pawn to save their own political career. Miller can lie and spin on X, but he cannot do so under oath in a court of law. We are confident that justice will prevail in court."

The extraordinary intervention from a sitting Republican senator adds pressure on Miller as a Wednesday deadline approaches for the party to replace him on the November ballot. Democrats have increasingly viewed the northeast Ohio district as a possible pickup opportunity amid the controversy.

Eagles cornerback Cooper DeJean joined Wallen for his signature pre-show walkout at Lincoln Financial Field, sending the hometown crowd into a frenzy before the country star ever reached the stage.

Wallen wore Allen Iverson's Philadelphia 76ers jersey as the two walked toward the stage. But the previous night, Wallen rocked DeJean’s No. 33.

During Eagles practice earlier Saturday, the All-Pro defensive back was asked how he felt about Wallen wearing his jersey on stage. DeJean called it "sick" and said he is a "huge Morgan Wallen fan."

Then he offered a small hint about what was coming later that night.

During a recent show in Ann Arbor, Mich., Wallen told fans he has already been back in the studio working on whatever comes next.

GOP Rep Max Miller pushes back against abuse allegations: ‘I have nothing to hide’

Rep. Max Miller, R-Ohio, went live on X on Sunday morning, denying allegations from his ex-wife that he abused her and their daughter.

"I'm not getting out of this race, and I'm winning in November," Miller said at the end of a roughly 17-minute X livestream statement with pictures of his family in the background.

Miller claimed his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, has documented mental health circumstances that might have led to her allegations after their public divorce.

"They frame me as an abuser," Miller said, adding there is "no evidence" against him.

GOP LAWMAKER UNDER HOUSE ETHICS REVIEW BLASTS 'BASELESS' INVESTIGATION

"No court or agency has even substantiated any allegation against me," he added. "Every single one of these allegations were already investigated. No criminal charge has ever been filed against me."

Miller released troves of evidence via Dropbox that he says undermines the allegations against him.

"I have nothing to hide," he said.

Faced with a narrow path to winning control of the U.S. House, Democrats are seeing fresh opportunity in a northeast Ohio congressional seat where the Republican incumbent is facing mounting pressure over allegations that he abused his ex-wife and daughter in a bitter and drawn-out dispute with his former spouse.

Allegations against Miller, a White House advisor during President Donald Trump's first term, have been public for years but have recently drawn increased media scrutiny amid an escalating legal back-and-forth with his ex-wife. That has Democrats sensing Miller could be vulnerable in a district he won two years ago with just over 51% of the vote.

After Miller's X livestream, Sen. Bernie Moreno stood by his daughter's allegations and called for Miller to resign and get "serious psychological help."

"Out of concern for the safety of my family, I hoped to keep this matter private but Max Miller’s increasingly erratic and dangerous behavior has made that impossible," Moreno wrote. "As he has admitted privately, Max Miller needs serious psychological help. He is a danger to my daughter, and I hold my breath every minute he has custody of my granddaughter.

"If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them.

"He should not serve in the House of Representatives. I believe Max Miller needs to seek professional help to end the clear pattern of abuse he has left in his wake. I believe he should not be free to continue endangering others until he does."

The deadline to resign and be replaced on the November ballot is Wednesday.

Miller addressed the accusations directly Sunday after concluding that traditional media interviews would not allow him to present his full account. He accused reporters of accepting allegations as fact without adequately examining court records, child welfare findings and communications between him and his former wife, Emily Moreno.

Moreno alleged that Miller threw her against a wall, held a gun to her head and threw hot water on her.

"She didn't call the police after that," Miller said of the assault allegation. "She didn't go to the hospital. Ladies and gentlemen, do you want to know what she did? She went straight to a child's birthday party."

On the holding a gun to her head, Miller rejected it on the basis that no criminal account has been made of that serious crime.

"She has also claimed I held a gun to her head while standing over our child because a light wasn't turned off: That never happened," Miller said. "It is absolutely outrageous. And two days after that allegedly occurred, ladies and gentlemen, she asked me to come over for dinner and to stay the night."

Miller added the Dropbox documents — paid for by Miller and produced by his lawyers, he wrote on X after their release — provide that evidence.

"I can literally walk you all through this," he continued in the livestream. "These are incredibly serious criminal accusations. And if these accusations were true, I would be in jail.

The hot water incident reported in the media was just "horseplay," according to Miller.

"Now, the boiling water story the media has run with: That story is about an incident in June of 2024 while we were still married, and here's the truth — and this is the absolute truth: It was horseplay in our kitchen," he said "I sprayed water at her from the sprayer attached to our kitchen sink. Tap water, which does not reach boiling temperature or scalding.

"From that day, you could even see my text messages from that day show she was laughing during it. She never sought or received any medical attention ever. And it was two months after this incident, that Oct. 7 recording that she told me I was a very kind person who she didn't think would ever hurt her physically.

"I mean, ladies and gentlemen, this doesn't add up. Our court-appointed parent coordinator testified under oath that the single photo she was shown of this supposed industrial injury looked a little red, and that there was no physician's report. None."

Miller has not been charged with a crime, and records released through court proceedings showed that child welfare authorities did not substantiate several allegations that he abused his daughter.

"Let me begin with the most painful accusation of all: I have never abused our daughter," he began. "Before I go through the facts with you today, understand one thing: Every one of these allegations traces back to a single source, my former wife.

"I filed for divorce in August of 2024. That October, she admitted under oath that I had never harmed our daughter. Every accusation has come since.

"So ask yourself, what is continuing to change?

"Not the facts. There's never been evidence of any kind. What changed, ladies and gentlemen, were the stakes."

Miller said a January 2025 report accusing him of physically abusing his daughter was closed as unsubstantiated that March. He said investigators instead substantiated findings involving two workers at a daycare the child attended.

He also addressed a February 2026 report concerning his daughter’s broken collarbone. Miller said the injury was discovered after he had returned the child to Moreno and that he canceled a planned trip to Florida after learning she had been hurt. According to Miller, authorities closed that investigation in April without substantiating abuse by him.

Miller further described a recent emergency-room visit prompted by what Moreno believed was a bruise on the child’s neck. Miller said the mark was left during finger painting. He also recounted an occasion when Moreno called police over concerns about his daughter’s car seat, saying responding officers determined that the seat had been installed properly.

The Associated Press reported that Miller’s representatives previously provided documentation showing that several allegations involving his daughter had been investigated by the Cuyahoga County Division of Children and Family Services and deemed unsubstantiated.

Emily Moreno has offered a sharply different account in court and to police. Her allegations include claims that Miller scalded, hit and threatened her during their marriage.

"There is a documented trove of evidence that Miller has a history of violent and dangerous behavior and no amount of victim shaming will change that.

"It is despicable and abhorrent that Miller lied on an unhinged and humiliating video for their daughter to watch one day.

The former couple finalized their divorce last year but remain engaged in litigation involving custody and defamation claims. Last week, Moreno’s lawyers asked a judge for an order restricting Miller’s contact with one of her attorneys, alleging that Miller had shouted at and physically grabbed the lawyer. Miller’s attorney did not respond to an Associated Press request for comment on that filing.

Miller has sued Moreno for defamation, contending that she has engaged in a pattern of false accusations intended to hurt his reputation and gain leverage in their legal dispute.

He also faces renewed litigation involving former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, a former girlfriend who previously accused him of physical abuse. Miller denied those allegations and sued Grisham for defamation before the two sides reached a confidential settlement. Grisham filed a new lawsuit in July accusing Miller of violating the settlement’s terms.

The controversy has increasingly spilled into Miller’s race for Ohio’s 7th Congressional District. Democrats have called for a House Ethics Committee investigation, and Rep. Shontel Brown, D-Ohio, has said Miller should resign. Poindexter said the allegations should receive the attention of law enforcement.

"No one credibly accused of holding a gun to his wife's head and breaking their 2-year-old daughter's collarbone belongs in the halls of power," Poindexter wrote in a statement after the X livestream.

The district remains Republican-leaning, but Miller won it with just over 51% of the vote in 2024. Democratic campaign organizations have said they are monitoring the race as they search for opportunities to expand the battleground in their effort to win control of the House.

Miller used the final portion of his address to attack what he described as reckless coverage and urged reporters to review documents and evidence.

"What has been especially disappointing is the role much of the media has played: Too many reporters accepted accusations as fact before examining the evidence, too many stories were written with a predetermined conclusion," Miller said.

In a new interview, Baldwin, 60, reflected on the career-defining success that followed his role in the Oscar-winning 1995 crime thriller, "The Usual Suspects," and opened up about why he never felt drawn to chase stardom.

"I probably could have pointed myself in the direction of becoming a big star," Baldwin told People. "But that wasn't me. I didn't want to be Tom Cruise, and have to make $100 million at the box office. I'd rather be a schmuck from Massapequa."

Baldwin said his priorities shifted dramatically after embracing born-again Christianity in 2001.

According to the actor, his faith journey began after he and his wife, Kennya, hired a Brazilian housekeeper who claimed she had been sent by God because the couple would one day become Christians and start a ministry.

"My wife tells me, ‘I just spoke to Augusta, and she said the real reason she’s here is because God spoke to her, and she said in the future you and I will become born-again Christians and have our own ministry,’" Baldwin told the outlet.

"Down on the beach, they had built a skate park on the sand with plywood. And these funky, super committed, cool, tattooed, pierced skateboarders were there and they’d skate, stop, pick up a microphone and start preaching evangelistically, and like 5,000 kids would be around watching because of their interest in the skateboarders," he recalled. "I felt a calling."

Baldwin eventually created a skate video with a Christian message, titled "Livin' It."

"In the first six months we’d distributed 10,000 copies. Then one of the bigger churches called and asked what it would cost to bring the skaters from the video to their church for a live event. Baldwin admitted that Hollywood hasn't always been super accepting of his religious and political outspokenness.

"I think they thought I act a little too weird," said Baldwin, who supported President Donald Trump in 2016 and 2024.

"I get a lot of DMs from people who tell me how my work has touched them and that’s all that matters. I’m happy to be where I’m now at 60. I’m so blessed. And I absolutely believe that the best is yet to come."

Today, Baldwin says he's focused on producing faith-based films for younger audiences while hosting his podcast, "One Bad Movie," where actors discuss the worst film or filming experience of their careers.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. accused CNN anchor Dana Bash of COVID-era media malpractice Sunday, saying she failed to challenge public health authorities and helped marginalize dissenters during the pandemic.

"You were part of the problem. There was absolute press malpractice. Your job — your job — is a fierce skepticism toward authority, and you weren’t doing that," Kennedy said on "State of the Union."

"You were beating up on people who were dissenting," the HHS secretary added.

Kennedy leveled the attack after Bash asked how HHS would prepare for another pandemic and tried to move him away from re-litigating the prior federal response.

Bash pushed back, saying she was trying to ask how Kennedy would prevent another public health crisis.

CDC and Harvard researchers estimated in 2023 that primary vaccination could have prevented at least 232,000 deaths among unvaccinated U.S. adults.

After Bash acknowledged the frightening nature of the pandemic and said officials made mistakes, Kennedy accused CNN of contributing to public fear.

"You were scaring people," Kennedy said.

Bash asked why he believed CNN had frightened viewers, prompting Kennedy to point to its pandemic chyrons.

"We were listening to the leaders in this country, including the president, who had a daily press conference explaining what was going on," Bash said.

"Asking tough, substantive questions to those in power is the job of every journalist, and Dana did hers incredibly well today. We stand behind Dana, her reporting, and CNN’s overall coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic," the spokesperson added.

Kennedy later accused Bash of punishing people who distrusted Fauci, claiming he lied about masks, social distancing, natural immunity, vaccine transmission and COVID-19's origins.

"We know that Anthony Fauci, who was the expert, was lying about everything," Kennedy said. "He was lying. And you were punishing people for not trusting the experts."

The interview aired four days after Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment 111 times on his attorney's advice during a Senate hearing into the pandemic response and COVID-19's origins, Fox News Digital reported.

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., has said his committee will vote on a contempt resolution.

Bash’s questioning also came as the United States recorded its highest measles total in 35 years. The CDC reported 2,371 confirmed cases through July 30, surpassing 2,289 for all of 2025. Kindergarten MMR coverage fell from 95.2% during the 2019-2020 school year to 92.5% during 2024-2025.

When Bash asked Kennedy to tell parents directly to get their children vaccinated, he endorsed the MMR vaccine.

"Parents should get their children vaccinated for measles," Kennedy said. "Measles vaccine is effective. It stops measles in about 97% of the cases. People should get vaccinated."

Bash previously said in April reporters should identify false or misleading claims instead of merely presenting competing positions.

"Objective reporting doesn’t mean just giving all sides of the issue," she said. "Objective reporting now, rightly so, means explaining what somebody says when it’s false or when it’s not right or when it’s misleading."

Tom Selleck said he almost missed playing iconic role on 'Magnum, P.I.': 'It was a big fight'

Tom Selleck almost passed up one of his most iconic roles.

During a recent conversation with Ted Danson on his podcast, "Where Everybody Knows Your Name," Selleck explained that a conversation with fellow actor James Garner about his issues with the original script of "Magnum, P.I." ultimately convinced him to take the job.

"I'm sitting there, and I'm pretty preoccupied 'cause something had happened," Selleck told Danson. "And he says, ‘What's wrong?’ And I said, ‘Well, look, I had a contract at the studio for a series, but I fulfilled that contract. Now the studio is assigning this show to me, saying the contract is still valid and that I have to do it.’ The show, incidentally, was called ‘Magnum’ and I hated it. It was terrible."

Garner advised Selleck, "‘You don't have much power, but if they want you, you'll never have more power than you do right now. That's all I'm gonna say.’ And I said no to the studio. And Jim Garner, in a way, just kind of saved my life. I would've been long gone from that version of ‘Magnum.’"

Selleck has made similar comments in the past – in 2015, he told AARP that the original version of the character was "very James Bond-like."

He referenced Garner then, too, saying that he told the people behind the show that he'd prefer it if the character was more similar to Garner's Jim Rockford on "The Rockford Files."

"I said, 'I don't want to be Rockford, but I want to do something like that, where the guy is fallible,'" he said at the time.

Selleck admitted to Danson that "it was a big fight for a long time," saying that his lawyer later told him that he would have a choice of three submissions for "Magnum, P.I."

By that time, Selleck said he had done a miniseries called "The Sacketts," "which was a huge, huge break. So they knew that I could handle a series. And so, they gave me a choice. ‘And you're gonna meet with these writers.’"

Selleck said he had never met with a writer, "And now the writers are auditioning for me."

He told "Magnum, P.I." co-creator Donald P. Bellisario, "I want to do something like ‘Rockford.’ I want a character with flaws and some heart.’ And he said, ‘Say no more.’ He did. And he came back in about two weeks with the best TV movie I had ever read at the time, and it was called ‘Magnum.’"

Selleck admitted to Charlie Rose in 1997 that he'd "bet the farm" by pushing back so hard on the initial script.

"They said I can’t do that, and I said ‘I know I can’t, but I’m going to, and you’ve got to change this, or I can’t do it,'" he told Rose, adding that "had it not worked out, I think I would have gotten a pretty good reputation for being difficult and never worked again. But the point was I wanted to play a flawed guy."

"I did not like that," he said. "But we lost that battle. P.I. in Hawaii is not the most flattering term for Filipino Islander, and I was living in Hawaii at the time, and I just… so I don't call it that name, I call it ‘Magnum.’"

At the time, Selleck said that despite his success with "The Sacketts," he had done six unsold pilots, "and I know what they were saying. They're saying, ‘Who the hell does he think he is? He's never even gotten on the air.’ So, if it hadn't worked, I would've been long gone and back with United Airlines pretty quick."

Selleck had participated in United Airlines’ management training program while studying business in college.

Trump DHS chief under fire from conservatives after immigration speech ignites backlash

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin is facing a conservative backlash after reaffirming his opposition to amnesty in a social media post, with critics arguing the hardline message contradicted comments he made hours earlier during an immigration speech in Oklahoma.

Hours after speaking at the National Governors Association Summer Meeting in Oklahoma City, Mullin wrote on X: "NO amnesty for illegal aliens. Ever."

"We are a nation of laws," he wrote. "If you are illegally present in the United States of America—you will be detained and deported. Period."

The post did little to quell criticism from some conservatives, who argued it conflicted with remarks Mullin made earlier in the day.

"Why were you at the National Governors Association Summer Meeting today saying the exact opposite of what you are posting now?" one user wrote on X. "Did you suddenly radically change your mind about America's immigration policy in the past couple of hours? Or are you a liar?"

Former Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino also criticized Mullin's remarks, writing on X that "Voters asked for mass deportations. Clear demand. High priority. No ambiguity." He added, "The guy running DHS is making the case for 'immigration reform.' We've seen this script before."

In a separate post, Bovino wrote that Mullin had delivered "a masterclass in how to give terrible answers during a single interview" and argued, "Now you know why we're not getting mass deportations."

Conservative commentator Robby Starbuck also weighed in, calling Mullin's remarks "a total betrayal."

During the event, Mullin argued the U.S. needs immigration reform, distinguished between immigrants pursuing legal status and those who are not, and called for changes to some employment visa programs to address labor shortages.

"We haven't had actual immigration reform since 1959. There's a reason. It's political," Mullin said. "Do you really need immigration reform? Yes, you do."

Mullin also argued the country should modernize some employment visa programs.

Mayor calls upscale restaurant bombing a 'brutal terrorist act' after 3 killed, 21 injured

A bombing at an upscale restaurant in Moscow that killed three people and wounded at least 21 others on Saturday was a "brutal terrorist act," according to the city’s mayor, who vowed to hunt down those responsible for the attack.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin made the declaration Sunday, a day after the explosion tore through the Balzi Rossi Italian restaurant in the Russian capital.

"Yesterday, a brutal terrorist act was committed in Moscow that claimed human lives. The victims are currently in the city’s hospitals, where they are receiving all necessary care," Sobyanin wrote on social media Sunday.

He added investigators are working to identify those behind the attack and vowed they "will certainly be found and will face the punishment they deserve."

Russian authorities have not identified any suspects, and no group had claimed responsibility as of Sunday.

Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee said the blast was caused by a homemade explosive device. Russian state news agency RIA Novosti, citing local officials, reported that a woman carrying the bomb tried to enter the restaurant but was stopped by a security guard before it exploded.

The blast killed the woman, the security guard and a restaurant patron, RIA Novosti reported. At least 21 other people were injured in the explosion, which happened around 8 p.m. local time at the restaurant on Kudrinskaya Square.

The restaurant was closed to the public Saturday night for a private event, according to its website and Russian state media.

Video released by Russian state media showed heavily armed police officers, ambulances and other emergency vehicles outside the damaged restaurant as investigators examined the scene.

Earlier this year, Russia's Federal Security Service, or FSB, said it would tighten security for senior military and government officials following a series of assassination attempts in Russian cities since the Kremlin launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Lifeguards save young boy, 5 years old, as he's pulled unconscious from ocean

Another dramatic rescue of a young life has taken place this summer as strong ocean waves and powerful tides continue to prove challenging for vacationers and travelers.

Two lifeguards at Silver Beach in Volusia County, Florida, are being credited with lifesaving action on July 30.

Lifeguard Dempsey Manhart was just about to take his lunch break, he said, when the family of a young child flagged him down, frantically waving for help, as FOX 35 Orlando reported.

The boy was unconscious and was being held in the arms of a family member, Manhart recalled.

He began helping to bring the boy in from the water when his co-lifeguard, Mackenzie Malone, arrived beside him and checked the boy’s pulse — at which point the lifeguards immediately began CPR on the child.

Malone, who's been working as a lifeguard for her fourth summer, told FOX 35 this was the first time she experienced saving a child from drowning.

"We’re always expecting anything," she said. "We’re always prepared. We always make sure that we know what to do no matter what the scenario is."

She said the moment her co-lifeguard shouted to her that he was going on a rescue, "I knew that it was going to be serious."

Then everything kicked up a notch.

"The moment I saw that [the child] was unconscious, that he had a wound on his head … I knew that it was going to be something big."

The duo began performing CPR on the child.

In short order, he began breathing on his own again.

Malone later said her lifeguarding and life-saving training kicked in.

"Thankfully, it ended up in a positive direction," she told FOX 35. "I’m just very grateful that [with] everything we followed, it worked out and that [the boy] actually is able to have a life and come home to a family."

The lifeguards said they hope the rescue of the child provides a reminder for beachgoers to swim near staffed lifeguard towers — where trained responders can provide immediate assistance in an emergency.

"Heroes!! I am grateful to learn just how well-trained beach lifeguards are," wrote a Facebook user about the Florida beach rescue.

Volusia County is about 50 miles northeast of Orlando, in the east-central region of Florida.

"God bless their strength," wrote another person.

The rescue of the 5-year-old boy comes shortly after the heroic rescue of another child, this one by 16-year-old lifeguard Ryder Williams in Santa Cruz, California. Williams braved pounding surf and massive waves to bring a struggling 10-year-old boy safely back to shore, as Fox News Digital reported.

President Donald Trump has invited the teen lifeguard to the White House to celebrate his brave actions.

Fox News Digital previously reported that Los Angeles County lifeguards performed nearly 2,000 ocean rescues during a single weekend this summer as elevated surf and dangerous rip currents swept Southern California beaches.

Officials have encouraged visitors to speak with lifeguards about ocean conditions before entering the water.

Swimmers caught in a rip current are advised not to fight it.

Instead, they should remain calm, swim parallel to the shoreline until they escape the current, then angle back toward shore, according to the National Weather Service.

Originally built in 1481, the cottage in West Sussex came into the possession of the Messel family in 1890 and was passed down for generations before Oliver gifted it to the royal couple.

Upon receiving the 5,750-square-foot home on the 5.52-acre property, Lord Snowdon transformed the dilapidated home into a private retreat away from the public, often hosting many famous faces, including actor Peter Sellers, ballerina Dame Margot Fonteyn, Bianca Jagger, financier Sir Evelyn de Rothschild and more.

The estate features a main house with six bedrooms, as well as a pool house which can be used as a guest suite. In addition, the grounds include a garden office, library, tractor shed and other amenities.

While this is the first time the home has been put on the market publicly, Snowdon did sell it privately in 2003, and the current owners purchased it off-market in 2005.

"The fact that this is the first time the property has ever been publicly offered for sale makes this a genuinely rare moment," James-Wright said. "Opportunities to acquire houses with this level of provenance, architectural significance and cultural importance simply do not come along very often."

Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon first met in 1958, and their friendship quickly turned into a romance, with the palace announcing their engagement in February 1960.

They were married just a few months later in May 1960 at Westminster Abbey. Their wedding was the first royal wedding to be televised, attracting an estimated 300 million viewers worldwide.

Over the course of their marriage, the couple welcomed two children: their son David Armstrong-Jones in November 1961, and their daughter Lady Sarah Chatto in May 1964.

They were married for 16 years before announcing their separation in March 1976, later finalizing their divorce in July 1978. Despite ending their marriage, the two are said to have remained good friends in the following years.

Following their divorce, Lord Snowdon married Lucy Lindsay-Hogg in 1978, while Princess Margaret never remarried.

Princess Margaret died in February 2002 at the age of 71 due to a stroke, after her health began to decline in the 1990s. Lord Snowdon died in January 2017 at the age of 86.
