Dispatch audio released in Michigan family murder-suicide as troubled family's secrets emerge

A Michigan mother of six had just returned from the trip of a lifetime when her recently unemployed husband killed the entire family and then himself, authorities say, and newly released 911 dispatch audio captures the inferno he left behind.

Six children and two adults were found dead inside a Grand Haven Township home Friday after crews responded to a house fire, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said. All eight had gunshot wounds, turning the case into a suspicious death investigation.

Officials on Monday identified the adults as Kristopher Karolkiewicz, 47, and Amanda Karolkiewicz, 39. Authorities did not name the children but said they were four boys ages 15, 12, 11 and 5 and two girls, both 11. Two of the children were adopted.

The sheriff's office identified the father and husband, Kristopher Karolkiewicz, as the suspect in the murder-suicide.

Amanda Karolkiewicz, who went by Mandy, returned to Michigan from her trip of a lifetime to China with her two adopted girls just days before the murder-suicide.

In one image, Mandy and two of the girls pose in traditional Chinese hanfu, their hair styled and faces made up, each holding a decorative fan against a painted floral backdrop.

The mother called it one of the "funniest and coolest" experiences of her life.

Her final TikTok post was made on July 17, with Mandy writing, "We are so ready to be home sweet home!"

Mandy's TikTok told the story of a family that seemed to have it all. Disney in Shanghai. Cobblestone streets overseas. Lazy afternoons at the pool. A beach photo of her and her husband, arms wrapped around each other. And the kids, all six, turning up again and again in the everyday moments most parents live for.

However, a Reddit account belonging to Mandy shows their marriage wasn't as picture-perfect as it appeared.

In a 2024 post, Mandy wrote that there was infidelity in the marriage.

"He was divorced and older than me … fast forward ten years and five kids, he was cheating with the intern again — the same age I was when I was the intern," she allegedly wrote.

"After about a year of self-loathing I remember crying and looking at myself in the mirror and realizing how f----- up it was that I was the one who was living so miserably because of what he did," she allegedly wrote.

Mandy made frequent posts in the "AsOneAfterInfidelity" Reddit, writing she couldn't stomach the idea of leaving him.

"We have six kids, so the idea of leaving is insanely terrifying," Mandy allegedly wrote. "He’s always had major red flags that I ignored due to my own trauma and anxious attachment."

The couple had been married 17 years when they were found dead, along with their children, in their Grand Haven home.

Kristopher Karolkiewicz worked at the American Heart Association until July 2026, when his employment ended, according to a spokesperson for the organization.

"The American Heart Association is aware that one of its former staff members was among those who perished under tragic circumstances last week in a western Michigan home. Kristopher Karolkiewicz was an employee of the American Heart Association from September of 2023 until earlier this month, July 2026, when his employment ended," the spokesman said. "During his time with our organization, he served as a national vice president of sales and marketing, supporting the division of the Heart Association responsible for CPR and first aid training and products."

Authorities said Karolkiewicz started the fire in numerous places throughout the house after carrying out the murders.

"The cause and origin of the residential fire remains under investigation by Michigan State Police arson investigators. However, preliminary indications are that the fire was intentionally set in numerous places throughout the interior of the residence. The family pets also perished due to the fire/smoke," the sheriff's office said in a press release.

The Grand Haven Fire Department initially responded to reports of people being able to smell smoke in that area between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Friday, but firefighters couldn't locate a fire.

Dispatch audio obtained by Fox News Digital indicated that the house was "full of smoke" that could be seen coming out the windows.

Just before 11:45 a.m., officials returned to the 14900 block of Riverside Trail after receiving reports of white smoke coming from a home there.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said there are no additional suspects.

Lost sermons from one of Christianity's greatest saints discovered after 1,600 years

Two previously unknown sermons by St. Augustine — one of Christianity's most influential theologians — have been authenticated, revealing ideas scholars say have never before appeared in his surviving works.

The newly discovered sermons were found on a medieval manuscript by Christian Tornau, a Latin professor at the University of Würzburg in Germany.

The manuscript was copied at Bad Doberan Abbey in present-day Germany during the 12th century, likely from an earlier manuscript that has since been lost.

St. Augustine lived from 354 to 430 A.D. He served as the bishop of Hippo Regius in present-day Algeria and was a prolific theologian.

In a press release issued by the University of Würzburg, officials said the saint "is regarded as one of Christianity's most important Church Fathers."

"His extensive body of writings continues to occupy scholars today," the university also said.

Tornau is now working to publish the sermons for the first time in a scholarly edition after nearly two years of research.

The discovery began in 2024, when a representative of the monastery's preservation association asked Tornau to decipher the manuscript.

Of the manuscript's six sermons, two were previously unknown.

The two sermons explore the Old Testament story of the Witch of Endor, in which King Saul consults a witch before a battle against the Philistines.

At Saul's request, the witch summons what appears to be the spirit of the deceased prophet Samuel, who foretells Saul's death in battle — raising the question of theodicy, or why an all-powerful God would allow an apparently diabolical act to occur.

Augustine's sermons show him weighing the possibility that King Saul repented and was ultimately redeemed after hearing Samuel's prophecy.

"The first sermon was preached during a Sunday service and ends by presenting the theodicy question and the possible interpretations," Tornau told university officials.

"Only in the second sermon, delivered the following Wednesday, are the alternatives weighed ... the style, humor, and content also strongly indicate that the sermons preserved in the manuscript really are by Augustine."

The interpretation of Saul being saved is the "most remarkable element" of the new sermons, Tornau told Fox News Digital.

"This is unparalleled in Augustine and in ancient Christianity in general, where we find a very negative image of Saul," said Tornau. "Augustine suggests it ... and clearly takes it seriously."

The professor noted that Augustine may have independently developed the idea that King Saul repented and was ultimately saved after hearing Samuel's prophecy, or he may have been influenced by Jewish rabbinic interpretations that viewed Saul more favorably.

"In any event, it is indicative of Augustine’s [independence] of mind and his willingness to think everyone, even those who appear most evil, [are] capable of salvation through the grace of God," he said.

"This combines intellectual honesty and episcopal humility in a remarkable and very Augustinian way."

The texts can "confidently" be dated to Late Antiquity, Tornau added, because they reflect a style of Christian liturgy that would have been impossible in the Middle Ages.

"The background is North African, as is clear from the concluding prayer of the first sermon, which is only attested in late-antique Africa," he said.

He also noted that the sermon's author "is familiar with Augustine’s thought and works but does not simply copy them, which would be a sign of inauthenticity."

"After this intense period of reading and interpreting, we came to the conclusion that there are no serious objections to Augustine’s authorship," he said.

It does not seem possible to trace the manuscript further back than the 12th century, the professor said, adding that the texts themselves also initially gave researchers pause.

"We were fascinated, of course, by the idea of having found new sermons of Augustine, but soon turned skeptical because [in] some places the sermons did not seem to read like Augustine," Tornau said.

Brandon Aiyuk's increasingly routine cringe social media posts have already cost him the respect of some NFL coaches and general managers, and that is costing him money. But what he did on Tuesday might also cost him future job opportunities.

Aiyuk went on his Instagram account late Tuesday afternoon and made a not-so subtle reference to Kyle Shanahan and the head-on collision the San Francisco 49ers coach was involved in earlier this month.

"You can't win the race if you crash out," Aiyuk posted, without naming Shanahan.

On the next slide, Aiyuk added, "Keep yo head up and stay in yo own lane. You gone win."

The IG story was added following the news that Shanahan had suffered significant injuries – including multiple broken ribs, a broken nose, a broken hand and concussion symptoms – in an auto accident he took responsibility for causing when he dropped his phone while driving.

His Tesla veered into an oncoming lane, hitting a car traveling in the opposite direction.

So, yes, multiple sources around the NFL have told Fox News Digital they're disappointed, worried, and even upset about Aiyuk's online activity. One said he was "disgusted" Aiyuk seemed to be at minimum mocking, and perhaps even celebrating his coach's misfortune.

And why would Aiyuk be doing that?

Because he's been feuding with Shanahan and the 49ers dating back to 2024 and certainly last November when the club voided his 2026 guaranteed salary for failing to fulfill obligations related to his rehabilitation from an October 2024 ACL injury.

To be clear: Aiyuk is still under contract with the 49ers. But he's never going to play for them again. Both Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have said as much. Aiyuk is currently on the "reserve/left squad" list and not at training camp with the team.

During his time away from the squad, dating back to last winter, Aiyuk has seemingly crashed out on social media.

He filmed himself driving at ludicrous speed (perhaps as high as 104 MPH) on the street adjacent to the 49ers training facility, leading prosecutors to charge him with the California misdemeanor offense of exhibition of speed, alleging he intentionally accelerated at excessive speed on a public roadway.

The case was based largely on the video Aiyuk himself posted online.

There was also a post in which Aiyuk sits a backpack full of cash on a shelf. He opens the backpack, pulls out wads of bills and repeatedly throws the money into the air and onto the floor. He then closes the backpack, puts it on, and walks away.

Aiyuk, clearly sending the message he doesn't need anyone's money, deleted the video.

All this while he was trying to get traded or set himself up to get signed by another team if the 49ers release him.

Yes, bizarre.

One of the teams that has been most closely connected to having an interest in Aiyuk has been the Washington Commanders. They have an admitted need for wide receiver help and quarterback Jayden Daniels played with Aiyuk when both were in school at Arizona State.

The connection has been so obvious that a reporter on Tuesday asked Washington general manager Adam Peters about the weight of a player's social media activity when evaluating him.

"That's a good roundabout question, right there," Peters said with a laugh.

"Bada-- you are," head coach Dan Quinn told the reporter from his seat next to Peters. "Straight bada-- right there."

Everyone understood the point of the question: Would the Commanders, needing talent at the position Aiyuk plays, consider adding Aiyuk despite his sometimes unhinged ride through social media?

Or would the team see the behavior for what it is: rebellious, anger-filled, and often just strange?

"I mean, we look at everything," Peters said. "I mean, it's a great question, but we do look at everything and, you know, we want to make sure it's the right player to be in our locker room, in our bloodstream, and in our culture.

"And we often, we look at that stuff. It's not always the first thing we look at. Obviously, you're looking at the tape and you talk to the teams that the players have been on and how they were in the locker room – the players that have played with them and so on and so forth to make those decisions.

"But, you know, that's not usually a huge part of it."

Peters paused.

"Usually," he added.

Chick-fil-A is now warning customers after attackers gained access to certain loyalty accounts. The incident exposed personal information and account details, while also raising new concerns about password reuse.

Even if Chick-fil-A never contacted you, this breach gives you a good reason to review your password, stored payment methods and recent rewards activity.

What happened in the Chick-fil-A data breach

Chick-fil-A says it first spotted suspicious login activity involving certain Chick-fil-A One accounts. The company then investigated and found an automated attack against its website and mobile app. The attack ran from June 17 through June 19, 2026. Chick-fil-A determined on July 13 that unauthorized parties may have accessed information stored inside affected accounts.

The attackers used email addresses and passwords obtained from a third-party source. They then tested those login combinations against Chick-fil-A One accounts. When a customer had reused the same password, the attackers had a chance of getting inside.

Chick-fil-A has not disclosed the total number of affected customers. However, public filings show that the breach affected 2,182 Texas residents and 39 Massachusetts residents. The company also submitted notices involving residents of Iowa, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Vermont and Rhode Island.

What information the Chick-fil-A data breach exposed

The information available to the attackers varied by account. According to Chick-fil-A's notification, the exposed data may have included:

Customer names and email addresses
Chick-fil-A One membership numbers
Mobile pay numbers and account QR codes
The amount of Chick-fil-A credit stored in an account
The last four digits of a linked credit or debit card
The month and day of a customer's birthday
Phone numbers and saved addresses

The notification lists only the last four digits of payment cards. It does not list full card numbers, Social Security numbers or bank account details among the exposed information. Still, the other details could help criminals create convincing scams. A message that includes your name, loyalty membership information or partial card digits may feel legitimate. The QR code exposure also raises questions because customers use account QR codes to earn points and access rewards. Chick-fil-A has not publicly explained whether attackers used any exposed QR codes. We reached out to Chick-fil-A for comment, but did not hear back by our deadline.

How credential stuffing opened Chick-fil-A accounts

Credential stuffing sounds technical, but the attack follows a simple pattern. Criminals collect email addresses and passwords from older data leaks. Then automated tools try those combinations across other websites and apps.

The attack works because many people reuse passwords. One old password breach can therefore lead to account takeovers at companies that had no connection to the original leak. Chick-fil-A says the login details used in this attack came from a third-party source. The company's notification describes attackers arriving with stolen credentials and testing them against its services.

That distinction may explain how the attack started. However, it offers little comfort when someone gains access to your rewards, contact details and stored payment information. Relying on a username and password alone creates more opportunities for account takeovers. Multifactor authentication can provide another barrier when a password has already been stolen.

How Chick-fil-A responded to the account breach

A Chick-fil-A, Inc. spokesperson provided CyberGuy with the following statement:

"We recently identified a security incident that may have affected a limited number of Chick-fil-A One Loyalty accounts. Upon discovering the issue, we took steps to immediately address, secure and restore accounts, and we are communicating directly with all customers who may have been impacted. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or concern this situation may have caused and remain committed to maintaining the trust our guests place in us every day."

The company's customer notice provides several additional details. Chick-fil-A logged affected customers out, removed saved payment methods and added rewards to their accounts.

Why this Chick-fil-A account attack feels familiar

This isn’t Chick-fil-A's first major credential stuffing incident. In March 2023, the company confirmed that attackers had accessed more than 71,000 customer accounts. That earlier campaign ran from December 2022 through February 2023.

The attackers accessed personal information and used stored rewards balances in some accounts. The repeat attack shows how long stolen login information can remain useful to criminals. They can keep old credential lists, combine them with newer leaks and test them across popular services.

A restaurant loyalty account may seem less important than your bank or email. Yet it can still contain personal information, stored funds and payment details. It can also give an intruder clues about other accounts you use, especially when your email address and password appear together in several places.

Ways to stay safe after the Chick-fil-A data breach

You can take these steps even if Chick-fil-A never contacted you about the breach.

1) Change your Chick-fil-A One password

Open the official Chick-fil-A app or type the company's website into your browser. Then create a new password that you have never used on another account. Avoid changing one character in an older password. Criminals often test common variations after a stolen password stops working. Chick-fil-A recommends using a unique password that has no connection to your other online accounts.

2) Replace the password anywhere you reused it

Changing only your Chick-fil-A password leaves other accounts exposed. Update the password on every account where you used the same login combination. Give priority to your email because an attacker can use it to request password resets elsewhere. Then review accounts that store payment methods or sensitive personal information. A password manager can help you find reused passwords and replace them with unique ones. It also removes the need to remember every login yourself.

3) Review your Chick-fil-A transaction history

Open the Chick-fil-A app and look for orders or balance changes you do not recognize. In the app, tap For You , then open Account > Transactions > Transaction History . Chick-fil-A says customers can review up to one year of account activity. Check your rewards activity separately. Someone may have redeemed or gifted rewards without placing an obvious food order. Also review your phone number and saved addresses. Correct any account details that someone changed.

4) Remove stored payment methods

Chick-fil-A says it removed saved payment methods from affected accounts. However, you should confirm that your cards no longer appear if you received a breach notice. To check, open the app and tap For You . Then go to Account > Payments > Manage payment methods . Chick-fil-A advises customers to resolve unauthorized activity and change their passwords before adding a payment method again. Leaving a card out of a restaurant app may create an extra step at checkout. It also gives an account thief one less thing to misuse.

5) Watch your bank and card statements

The notification lists the last four digits of payment cards among the information attackers may have accessed. Those digits alone usually cannot authorize a purchase. However, criminals could combine them with other personal details during a phishing attempt. Review recent charges and turn on transaction alerts through your bank or card issuer. Contact the financial institution immediately if you find anything unfamiliar.

6) Prepare for Chick-fil-A phishing scams

A breach can lead to a second round of trouble when criminals send fake security alerts. Be cautious with emails or texts claiming your Chick-fil-A account requires immediate action. The message may offer a refund, replacement rewards or help restoring your balance. Avoid clicking the link. Open the official Chick-fil-A app yourself or type the company's website address into your browser. Also check the sender's full email address. A familiar logo and a polished message provide no guarantee that Chick-fil-A sent it.

7) Use strong antivirus protection

Credential stuffing does not require malware on your phone or computer. However, criminals may follow a breach with fake security alerts designed to steal more information. Strong antivirus software can help warn you about malicious links, fake websites and suspicious downloads. Keep the protection active on every device you use to check email or access your Chick-fil-A account. The Chick-fil-A breach may have exposed names, phone numbers and saved addresses for some customers. Criminals can combine those details with information found on data broker and people-search sites to create more believable scams. A data removal service can send removal requests to these companies and continue checking whether your information returns. However, it cannot remove data already taken from your Chick-fil-A account or guarantee that every public record disappears. 9) Turn on multifactor authentication elsewhere

Chick-fil-A does not currently advertise a customer-facing multifactor authentication option for Chick-fil-A One accounts. However, you should enable it on your email account, financial services and any account that stores sensitive information. Use an authenticator app or passkey when available. These options provide stronger protection than text message codes in many situations. Multifactor authentication can block an intruder who has already obtained your password.

10) Protect your devices from malicious follow-up links

Credential stuffing does not require malware on your phone or computer. However, follow-up phishing messages may try to install harmful software. Keep your phone, computer and browser updated. Use strong antivirus protection that can warn you about malicious links and downloads. Never install an app through a link in an unexpected breach notification. Use the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to find the official version.

In the lead up to Wednesday’s hearing, Paul unveiled over 1,000 pages of Fauci’s diary, providing his own color commentary online about Fauci's motivations leading up to and during the pandemic.

"I think he actually could do better in the hearing if he'd come forward and apologize for funding this research," Paul said. "No one's ever heard an apology from him. All they hear is sort of the idea that he never did anything wrong and that there's nothing wrong with that."

Paul has said that the former chief medical advisor to the president deserves to be in prison for his alleged role in funding gain-of-function research, and warned that his pardon from former President Joe Biden wouldn’t hold up.

Notably, Fauci's former top advisor at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. David Morens, was indicted by the Justice Department earlier this year on charges of allegedly conspiring to evade public records laws, hide communications regarding the origins of COVID-19, and destroy federal records.

Gain-of-function research, or work that enhances a virus's transmissibility or lethality, and Fauci’s alleged role in funding that type of research through his position at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China has been Paul’s focal point for years in his crusade against the former COVID-19 czar.

And he argued that the issue of researching the spread of a virus, or its killing potential, predates the pandemic.

Paul charged that in 2010, research conducted by Ron Fouchier, a Dutch virologist, produced a version of H5N1, commonly known as bird flu, that was transmissible "through the air between mammals."

"And half the scientific community said, ‘Oh my God, this could be the end of the world. We're doing this s---,’" Paul said.

"And Fauci was on the other side, and he said at the time in a Washington Post op-ed that even if a pandemic should occur from a scientist being bitten or somehow infected, the knowledge is worth the risk," he continued. "That needs to be debated by the country. Is the knowledge of creating viruses that could kill the world worth the risks? And I don't think it is."

GOP chairman says WNBA response on Caitlin Clark ‘falls short,’ keeps ‘every option on the table’

Rep. August Pfluger, R-Texas, chairman of the Republican Study Committee, says the WNBA’s response to congressional concerns about Caitlin Clark’s treatment "falls short" and warned that lawmakers will keep "every option on the table" as they continue pressing the league for answers.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert responded on July 24 to a letter from Pfluger and 10 other House Republicans who questioned whether the league had adequately protected Clark and held opposing players accountable for overly physical conduct.

In the two-page response obtained exclusively by OutKick, Engelbert said the WNBA’s "top priority is the health, safety, and well-being of every player in our league, including Caitlin Clark."

In the response, the commissioner outlined the league’s standard procedures for reviewing officiating and potentially dangerous play but did not address any of the Clark-related incidents cited by the lawmakers individually.

"The WNBA’s response falls short of what we asked for, unsurprisingly," Pfluger told OutKick in a statement. "We didn’t request a description of the league’s general officiating and disciplinary procedures, we asked how those procedures have actually been applied in the specific incidents we raised involving Caitlin Clark, and the league chose not to answer that."

Engelbert wrote that WNBA Basketball Operations and Referee Operations conduct separate reviews after every game. One review examines "atypical or overly physical plays," while the other evaluates the overall performance of the officials.

Those reviews can result in fouls being upgraded after a game, as well as fines, suspensions or other disciplinary measures. The league also uses the reviews to inform future officiating evaluations, training and guidance, Engelbert wrote.

"In all instances, the League seeks to apply the WNBA rulebook and applicable disciplinary processes consistently across all games and for all players," the commissioner said.

Pfluger said the league offered no supporting information to demonstrate that its rules had been applied evenly.

"Saying you apply your rules ‘consistently across all games and for all players’ is an assertion, not evidence, and it’s the league’s burden to show that, not ours to assume it," Pfluger said.

"Until the WNBA is willing to engage with the specifics of our information requests instead of simply restating their own policies back to us, our concerns remain unaddressed. We will continue to press for real answers and keep every option on the table until players are actually getting the protection the league claims they already provide."

Lawmakers cited a series of incidents involving Clark

Pfluger and the other lawmakers initially wrote to Engelbert on July 7, following several highly publicized incidents involving Clark. Their letter cited instances in which the Indiana Fever star had been hip-checked, poked in the eye and struck in the throat. The WNBA later assessed Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas a Flagrant Foul 2 and one-game suspension for the June 24 throat-contact incident.

The lawmakers argued that the incidents went "far beyond routine physical play" and accused the league and its officials of too often failing to address the conduct or hold opposing players accountable.

They asked Engelbert to explain the WNBA’s process for reviewing physical hostility and violence during games, how the league holds players accountable for overly aggressive actions, including conduct directed at Clark, and what it is doing to protect players from online harassment and off-court threats.

The letter also said lawmakers were concerned by reports suggesting some of Clark’s treatment could be racially motivated and warned that a failure to prevent discrimination, retaliation or a hostile work environment could raise questions under federal workplace and civil rights laws. The lawmakers requested a response by July 24.

Engelbert met the deadline, but her response did not address the alleged racial motivation, discuss any specific play involving Clark or provide comparative information about how the league’s officiating and disciplinary procedures had been applied to different players.

The response also did not say whether the WNBA conducted a separate review in response to the congressional inquiry.

WNBA emphasizes off-court security investments

Engelbert devoted part of the response to the league’s efforts to protect players from harassment away from games.

The commissioner pointed to enhanced arena and travel security, full-time charter flights, technology used to identify and report online threats, stronger fan conduct policies and expanded mental health resources. She also said the WNBA regularly communicates with teams, players and security personnel about player safety.

"The WNBA will continue its efforts to ensure all of our players are able to compete in a safe, respectful, and professional environment," Engelbert wrote.

The league’s emphasis on off-court harassment followed a July 22 joint statement from the WNBA and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association addressing an increase in racist, hateful and abusive messages directed at players.

During a July 23 interview with OutKick, conducted one day before Engelbert sent her response, Pfluger called that issue separate from the questions raised in the lawmakers’ letter.

"I’m sure there are plenty of other issues that the league needs to address, and they can do that as they see fit, but our questions are pretty pointed," Pfluger said. "The only way to clear up our questions is to actually answer them."

During the interview, Pfluger said the burden was on the WNBA to provide information demonstrating that its standards were enforced fairly. He argued that allowing a perception of unequal treatment to persist would damage confidence in the league’s ability to govern itself.

When asked during the interview to identify specific evidence supporting the original letter’s suggestion of racial motivation, Pfluger did not cite an example. He instead broadened his argument to whether every WNBA player receives equal protection under league rules.

"It is about everybody," Pfluger said. "The burden of proof should be on the commissioner, should be on the league, to provide evidence of how players on different teams and from different areas are treated."

Pfluger’s latest statement did not identify a specific congressional action he intends to pursue next, but his pledge to keep "every option on the table" leaves open the possibility of additional information requests, hearings or other scrutiny.

The WNBA did not respond to additional questions from OutKick and Fox News Digital prior to publication.

"Women’s sports are at a turning point," Pfluger said. "How the WNBA treats its own biggest star will show whether the league is actually committed to protecting the players carrying it forward."

In October 2020, the United States formally recognized the City of David — the historic site of biblical Jerusalem — as a heritage site. Not as a Jewish heritage site, nor as an Israeli one, but as an American heritage site.

Why would the United States recognize a site more than six thousand miles beyond its borders as part of its own national heritage? Why, in 2025, would Argentina's President Javier Milei do the same, calling the City of David a source of inspiration for his republic? And why, this past week, would Guatemala become the third nation to do so?

The answer is something Americans are in danger of forgetting.

The moral bedrock on which the United States was built — and on which it endures — traces back to Jerusalem's biblical heritage. Equality before the law. Inherent human dignity. Consider what they replaced: rulers who sat above the law, accountable to no one, in societies where only a select few were deemed worthy of rights at all.

Thomas Paine knew the source of that ideal. In Common Sense, the pamphlet that inspired the American Revolution, he pointed to the Book of Samuel and declared that in America, the law is king.

Four centuries later, in the same city, a young man named Jeremiah challenged a throne whose courts were corrupt and under which the poor were being crushed. Officials, unwilling to heed his call to change their ways, threw him into a cistern to sink in the mud and die.

The personal seals of two of those officials — Jehucal son of Shelemiah and Gedaliah son of Pashhur, the men named in the Book of Jeremiah as plotting to put the prophet to death for the crime of speaking truth to power — were unearthed in the City of David by the archaeologist Dr. Eilat Mazar. The names in the ground match the names on the page. The First Amendment's protections of speech and dissent didn't begin in America. Their roots run back to Jerusalem.

Athens executed Socrates for asking too many questions. Jerusalem made holding truth above human power a sacred duty. Benjamin Franklin proposed seven words as the motto for the Great Seal of the United States: Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God.

And Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence that all men are created equal, endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.

Not endowed by the king, nor by the government. By the Creator.

The idea that every person carries inherent worth, simply by being made in the image of God, begins in Genesis — and found its first national expression in Jerusalem.

This was no secret to America's Founders. Of some 15,000 political writings of the founding era, the most-cited source was not Locke or Montesquieu. It was the Bible — cited more than both combined. They told us exactly where they got it.

These nations did not come to honor Israel and the Jewish people specifically. They came to connect themselves to Jerusalem and her story — to the ideals, rooted in this city, on which they were founded and on which they hope to endure.

King Charles sends 'defiance' message to Prince William with Buckingham Palace room offer to Harry: expert

King Charles and his heir are said to be at odds over how to handle Prince Harry.

Multiple royal experts echoed the sentiment to Fox News Digital after royal author Robert Jobson told Page Six that Prince William and his estranged brother have "different agendas" and maintain very different relationships with their father.

Fox News Digital reached out to Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace for comment.

"When it comes to Harry, William drew a line in the sand after the publication of Harry's memoir, 'Spare,' and he is disappointed that his father is not standing up for him," Christopher Andersen, author of "The King," told Fox News Digital.

"William loves his father and appreciates better than anyone how underestimated Charles has been over the years. He wants the king to leave his mark on history. But deep down, he knows he and his family — particularly his wife, Kate — are the future of the monarchy."

While Charles and William are described as being "perfectly civil to each other," sources told Page Six there are ongoing disagreements about how the monarchy should be led.

"The problem with William is that he thinks he knows best," royal biographer Hugo Vickers told the outlet.

"King Charles is tired," Andersen stressed to Fox News Digital. "He would like to have everything as it was before Megxit. But he knows how willful William is. Queen Elizabeth's cousin Margaret Rhodes told me more than once that the relationship between Charles and his late mother wasn't cozy. But what people don't know is that the royal family isn't set up to be 'cozy.' Well, it still isn't. It's 'The Firm,' remember?"

People magazine reported Harry is expected to visit his home country again in September. The Sun also reported that the king plans to offer him a room at Buckingham Palace in London for his stay. Buckingham Palace and Harry's representatives had no comment on the report when reached by People magazine.

Royal broadcaster Ian Pelham Turner told Fox News Digital that Charles' reported offer to accommodate Harry in September is "a potential lifeline" that also sends a message of "defiance" to William, who reportedly wants "no further contact with his estranged brother."

British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard told Fox News Digital that William is known for being stubborn behind palace doors and is not one to forgive easily.

"Megxit forced William to grow up fast as the future king," she said.

"He had to protect the institution while his brother walked away. William believes the monarchy must be seen to do the right thing, even when it's painful. From what I understand, he felt his father didn't handle that firmly enough. He also believes in protecting it by drawing hard lines. But he's not the king yet."

"Where Charles may want to smooth things over, to play peacemaker with Harry, William and Catherine are determined to set boundaries. Charles is reigning, but William and Catherine are planning. And that planning is starting to look a lot like leading. Charles wants healing. William and Catherine want survival and stability. William is not doing this to be difficult. He’s doing it because he believes it’s right."

Royal experts told Fox News Digital that William and Harry have remained estranged since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back as senior working royals in 2020 and relocated to California. Harry and Meghan have maintained that relentless tabloid scrutiny and what they describe as a lack of support from the palace drove their decision to leave royal life.

Since stepping away from royal life, Harry and Meghan have publicly aired their grievances in high-profile interviews and documentaries. Harry's 2023 memoir, "Spare," further deepened the fallout within the royal family.

On July 10, the king hosted his younger son and his family for the first time in years in what royal observers viewed as an effort to repair the longstanding rift. The Sussexes secretly met with the king and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House, a country estate west of London, Buckingham Palace confirmed.

Vanity Fair royal correspondent Katie Nicholl reported that, according to sources, "not even the Prince and Princess of Wales were made aware that the meeting was taking place." A source close to Charles also told Nicholl the hour-long meeting was "completely cloak-and-dagger, orchestrated by the king."

Meanwhile, William and Kate attended the DMI Royal Charity Polo Cup 2026 at Guards Polo Club in Windsor. The brothers did not see each other.

"Obviously, King Charles and Prince William are very different characters, sometimes with conflicting temperaments," royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Fox News Digital. "What no one can alter is that William, Kate, and their family are the future of the monarchy. And it is natural for the king, who is battling cancer, to want to see his grandchildren."

Fitzwilliams argued that William made his disapproval clear on the day the king and queen saw the Sussexes by being absent from the reunion.

"William is making it clear that he has his own set of principles, his own set of rules about what is right and wrong," Andersen said.

"He feels Harry has violated those rules one too many times. It's not entirely personal. William has a strong sense of duty when it comes not only to his family but also to his country and his family's place in history. He feels Harry has shot the royal family's reputation full of holes. And for what? To become a SoCal influencer?"

"William feels Harry has betrayed not only the current generation of royals but also past generations, including their grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and future generations," Andersen added.

British royal expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital that while reports of a fracture between Charles and William are overstated, the two are far from aligned on how to deal with Harry. Whether father and son can find common ground on Harry remains to be seen.

"Prince William is no fool," Fordwich said. "Every time his zero-tolerance approach is proven correct, his influence increases."

In May 2025, Harry told the BBC he would like to reconcile with his family.

Singer Carly Simon has revealed that her Parkinson's disease was initially mistaken for arthritis, highlighting how the two conditions can share similar symptoms, particularly in the early stages.

"My health issues began with arthritis in both knees and one hip. I had all three joints replaced, and at first, I thought the difficulty I was having walking was simply part of the long recovery process," Simon said in a statement shared with multiple media outlets on July 27.

"Eventually, there were periods when I could not walk without considerable help. My family and I knew that something more was going on. After an extensive evaluation at Mayo Clinic, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's."

Arthritis is far more common than Parkinson's disease, affecting nearly 60 million U.S. adults compared with about 1.1 million Americans living with Parkinson's, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Even so, about 90,000 Americans are diagnosed with Parkinson's disease each year, making it a relatively common neurological disorder despite being far less prevalent than arthritis.

Arthritis primarily affects the joints and connective tissues, causing pain, inflammation, stiffness and structural damage, per the CDC. The most common types are osteoarthritis (wear-and-tear of cartilage) and rheumatoid arthritis (an autoimmune disease).

Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurological disorder that mainly affects the brain and nervous system, according to the National Institute on Aging (NIA). Dopamine-producing nerve cells in the brain gradually die or become impaired, affecting movement.

HOW EATING HABITS COULD INFLUENCE PARKINSON’S DISEASE RISK, ACCORDING TO EXPERTS

Although the conditions can share mobility problems, arthritis is typically driven by painful joint inflammation, while Parkinson's primarily affects movement through changes in the brain, according to Dr. Guy Schwartz, a neurologist with Stony Brook Medicine in New York.

Overlapping symptoms

"Parkinson's disease can sometimes be misdiagnosed as arthritis, and vice versa," Schwartz, who specializes in Parkinson's disease, told Fox News Digital. "The one main symptom that they share is difficulty with walking — some kind of impediment, limitation or disability."

While arthritis and Parkinson's are fundamentally different diseases, health experts say they can share the following symptoms that can make diagnosis difficult.

The two conditions can also occur in the same person, Schwartz noted, since both become more common with age. "I've definitely been challenged by individuals who come to me with these symptoms," he said. "Sometimes the examination is confounded by significant arthritis."

While many people may connect Parkinson’s with tremors, early signs of the disease usually include stiffness, slowness and changes in gait.

In older adults who have been diagnosed with arthritis or have had joint replacements, those same symptoms can easily be attributed to joint disease or surgical recovery.

Parkinson’s-specific symptoms

Some Parkinson’s symptoms are not typically seen in arthritis cases. People who experience the following signs should consult a neurologist, according to the Parkinson's Foundation.

While tremor is often considered a hallmark symptom, Schwartz cautioned that it isn't always present. "About a third of individuals with Parkinson's disease do not have a tremor," he said. "That's when the diagnosis becomes more challenging."

"In Parkinson's disease, dexterity becomes compromised because of slowness and stiffness," the expert added. "In arthritis, it's more of a mechanical issue, where the joints don't allow full range of motion."

How is Parkinson’s diagnosed?

The two conditions can be especially difficult to distinguish because both are largely diagnosed based on a patient's symptoms and physical examination rather than one definitive test, according to Schwartz.

There is no single blood test or imaging scan that can definitively confirm Parkinson’s, as "very few things in medicine are 100%," he said.

However, newer diagnostic tools have emerged, including specialized imaging and skin biopsy testing. "We're still learning," the neurologist said, adding that a blood test may be on the horizon.

For now, diagnoses are made based on the following factors, per the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS).

A detailed medical history, including the type and timeline of symptoms
A neurological exam that identifies telltale symptoms such as tremor, slowed movement, muscle stiffness, gait changes and balance problems
A physical exam to assess movement, coordination, reflexes and other neurological functions
The patient’s response to Parkinson's medications
Additional tests to eliminate other conditions

Schwartz emphasized that early diagnostic uncertainty is not uncommon. "It's not unusual for there to be misdiagnoses," he said. "Sometimes seeing a patient over time helps — eventually the disease declares itself, and then it's easier to make the diagnosis."

States make better decisions when they have both authority and responsibility for the results. By giving governors greater flexibility while also making them more accountable for the outcomes, we encouraged states to rethink old assumptions, experiment with new approaches and become better stewards of taxpayer dollars. Good intentions alone do not produce good government. Incentives matter.

That lesson is just as relevant today.

Since returning to office, President Donald Trump has made rooting out waste, fraud and abuse a hallmark of his administration. Early in that effort, Elon Musk remarked that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) was "where the big money fraud is happening." He was right. Few areas deserve more scrutiny than Medicaid, which involves hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars and the nation’s largest federal-state partnership.

CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz has made strengthening Medicaid program integrity a national priority, launching a 50-state initiative to improve provider oversight while expanding efforts to combat waste, fraud and abuse across a range of healthcare services.

Those investigations deserve praise. But they also reveal something much larger than misconduct by a handful of providers.

TRUMP TRIES TO CUT BLUE-STATE MEDICAID FRAUD AND SAVE MORE GREEN

The real challenge is not simply fraud. It is that Medicaid's current financing structure often creates incentives that make waste, fraud and abuse more likely while making sustained, effective oversight more difficult.

Human nature is predictable. Whenever government creates a system involving hundreds of billions of dollars, services that are difficult to measure, and payment models that reward volume, some people will exploit it. But the larger problem is program design. Unlike welfare after the 1996 reforms, Medicaid remains a joint federal-state program in which Washington pays a substantial share of additional dollars states spend. States therefore do not bear the full fiscal consequences of program growth, even while facing intense political pressure from provider organizations, advocacy groups and local employers whenever stronger oversight is proposed.

The result is a predictable imbalance. Everyone supports eliminating fraud in theory. The political incentives to aggressively pursue it are often much weaker in practice.

MEDICAID FRAUD FEARS GROW AMID MASSIVE RED STATE BILLING SPIKE IN SECTOR THAT ALSO PLAGUED MINNESOTA

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy illustrates how this plays out in practice.

Federal law required Medicaid coverage of ABA beginning in 2014, and spending has grown dramatically across the country. Most providers are dedicated professionals who help children with autism develop critical skills and lead more independent lives. Families deserve access to these services.

But the combination of rapidly growing spending, payment based on billable hours, and inconsistent oversight has also made ABA vulnerable to waste, fraud and abuse. Federal investigators have uncovered improper billing. Whistleblowers have described business practices that rewarded maximizing billable services rather than improving patient outcomes. In some cases, investigators have even uncovered disturbing allegations of abuse against vulnerable children.

This does not mean ABA is the problem. It means incentives matter.

The goal is not to spend less on children with autism. It is to make sure every dollar intended to help those children reaches them.

The same incentive problems have surfaced in other parts of Medicaid as well, including hospice care, home health services and medical equipment. These are different providers, different services, but the same underlying lesson: When accountability fails to keep pace with spending, bad actors eventually find ways to exploit the system.

Georgia illustrates another dimension of the challenge. The Department of Community Health and the state’s Medicaid-managed care organizations have moved to strengthen oversight of ABA services. Yet, those efforts have faced significant political resistance from legislators and provider groups concerned about funding and access. Protecting access and protecting accountability, however, are not competing goals. Families deserve both.

State legislatures should support — not undermine — the efforts of Medicaid agencies, managed care organizations and the Trump administration to strengthen program integrity. Honest providers should welcome stronger oversight because it protects both vulnerable families and the reputation of those delivering high-quality care.

Thirty years ago, welfare reform demonstrated that lasting public policy improvements begin by aligning incentives with the public interest. Medicaid needs the same lesson today.

"Son of Sam" David Berkowitz, New York's infamous .44-caliber killer who taunted the public with letters to the legendary columnist Jimmy Breslin, says he no longer trusts the media 50 years after kicking off his killing spree.

Berkowitz's first victim, 18-year-old Donna Lauria, was shot and killed while getting out of an Oldsmobile in the Bronx on July 29, 1976.

Through an intermediary, "Lighter Side of True Crime" podcaster Keith Rovere, Berkowitz declined an interview request for this story.

New York lawmakers are mulling over bills that would create an elder parole system and abolish life without parole.

"They riled up a victim with a false information and a distortion, thus creating the victim needless grief and pain, and more," he wrote. "This was not the first time. If the media wishes to know what I've been doing with my life, all they have to do is visit the website which has probably over a thousand pages of my prison writings and various videos, interviews and more, which viewers could easily access. In May, Berkowitz skipped a parole hearing and wrote in a letter to the New York Post that he wasn't trying to get out. "The only place I’m looking forward to going, is to heaven to be with the Lord," the outlet quoted him as writing.

The Post asked "Son of Sam" survivor Robert Violante, 68, for a reaction.

"I sincerely doubt he is going to heaven," he said. "He is lucky he is not already in hell."

Violante survived a gunshot wound to the head on July 31, 1977. His date, 20-year-old Stacy Moskowitz, did not. She was Berkowitz's final victim.

That was a year and two days after the first murder — Lauria's.

Her friend and the car's owner, 19-year-old Jody Valenti, was wounded but survived.

New York City saw a cool night, with lows in the 60s, after clouds and rain rolled in to break up scorching temperatures from the day before, according to Almanac.com. The Mets lost in extra innings to the Pittsburgh Pirates, 2-1. The Yankees had a day off after toppling the Boston Red Sox, 6-4.

The shooting would become known as the first of what police initially called the .44-caliber killings. They terrified New Yorkers for a year. Young couples shied away from sitting in parked cars. Young women cut and dyed their hair, believing that the killer was targeting people with long, dark locks.

Valenti provided a crucial description of her attacker — a White male in his 30s with curly dark hair.

Still, it took months before police pieced together a pattern now known as the "Son of Sam" murders, when ballistic evidence linked the same gun to the July shooting and four more.

At that point, it was March 8, 1977, and Berkowitz had killed three and injured four.

In the lead-up to the one-year mark, he sent a note to the former New York columnist Jimmy Breslin, whom he had been taunting with letters signed, "Son of Sam."

"Tell me, Jim, what will you have for July Twenty-Ninth?" he wrote to Breslin, according to one of his 1977 Daily News columns. "You can forget about me if you like because I don’t care for publicity. However, you must not forget Donna Lauria and you cannot let the people forget her, either. She was a very sweet girl but Sam’s a thirsty lad and he won’t let me stop killing until he gets his fill of blood."

He went on to warn that while he'd been quiet, he hadn't been inactive.

"I am still here," he wrote. "Like a spirit roaming in the night. Thirsty, hungry, seldom stopping to rest; anxious to please Sam. I love my work."

Berkowitz's letters showed the killer was following news coverage of the case, mocked police and cemented the "Son of Sam" moniker in place of the .44-caliber killer.

"I believe Berkowitz was focused on revenge, jealousy and attention, along with the feeling of power," said John Kelly, a criminal profiler and the president of STALK Inc. "He felt he was unlovable and acted out his rage on couples who could share a romantic emotional moment. Something he felt he could never have."

Though the night of July 29 came and went without a new victim, another shooting two days later proved key to Berkowitz's arrest. Investigators, looking for suspicious vehicles in the area, found a parking ticket issued nearby. That led police to his door in Yonkers. He was arrested on Aug. 10, 1977.

By then, the shootings had killed six and injured seven.

When searching his house, detectives found evidence that he had been closely following other crimes as well.

According to an FBI publication from July 1980, Berkowitz kept notes on hundreds of fires near New York City in the years before his arrest. Police found handwritten notes about 1,411 incidents, with details including the weather, street name and firefighters' response.

"He's one of the few serial killers that I know that I believe has completely changed his ways," said Rovere, a former prison pastor and the host of the "Lighter Side of True Crime" podcast who has been trading letters with Berkowitz for years.

Serving a life prison sentence, Berkowitz now claims to be a born-again Christian and calls himself the "Son of Hope." His letters are now signed "Bro[ther] David" or, occasionally, with his full name. Most are typed, no longer handwritten.

He spends some of his time producing illustrated religious pamphlets and posts content on his website and working on his prison ministry.

Walls full of bullet holes and police in "full armor" were among the sights that greeted a group of U.S. House lawmakers who recently traveled to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, a city that has been ravaged by gang rule since the July 2021 assassination of its former president.

"The gangs will essentially block the streets with rubble, with debris, they'll dig giant ditches in the road, and so these military and police units can't traverse," House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast, R-Fla., told Fox News Digital. "Some of these areas are like Afghanistan, and it is probably the poorest place I've ever been through in my life."

Mast led a group of bipartisan members of Congress on a trip to Venezuela and Haiti recently, which he said was the first congressional delegation in either country in a decade.

In Haiti, they were hosted by the country's prime minister, whose palace "a year ago, would have been a war zone," Mast said. "They have been actively working to take back land across the breadth of Port-au-Prince."

But while he saw signs of slow improvement thanks to an international coalition of forces as well as a U.S. paramilitary group run by Erik Prince, Mast said the realities of gang violence were ever-present.

A video he was shown, for example, depicted Haitian gang torture of a heavy machinery operator helping police clear gang-made blockages in the city streets.

"They took this guy who was this equipment operator, and for working with the police, they kidnapped his family. And then they told him they'll trade his family for him. He turned himself over," Mast said.

"They brutally killed him. I mean it's all on video. They cut off his ears, fed him his own ears... Then they hacked at him for probably at least five minutes with machetes. His limbs looked like a Christmas tree afterwards, with just bone and skin and other things coming off of him, until ultimately they killed him. That is who these gangs are."

And it's not just adult allies of the local police forces suffering from gang violence, according to the Florida Republican. Another chilling incident Mast said he became aware of while in Haiti was the kidnapping of a 6-year-old U.S. citizen by a local gang who he said may have committed sexual crimes against her.

"There was a 6-year-old American citizen girl. I don't want to say that she was raped, but there were health issues that led to believe that she was also raped, as a 6-year-old girl, by these gangs," Mast said. "It appears as though we were able to secure the release yesterday."

He said there was ultimately an "agreement" on the ransom money the girl's family would pay after she had been held hostage for at least 46 days.

"It appears as though we were able to get an exchange finally made yesterday. But again, it's just another example of who these gangs are and the forces that are being brought to bear, to bring them to heel," Mast said.

A State Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the administration has no higher priority than the safety and security of Americans, and that it was aware of reports of an American child kidnapped for ransom in Haiti but would not provide further details out of respect for the family's privacy.

Beyond the current level of assistance, however, Mast said he doubted there was more the U.S. could do to help the country as a whole.

"This started with political people starting gangs there for their own benefit. And most of the politicians there are beyond guilty of pillaging their own country instead of doing something good for their country. That's how Haiti is in the state that it's in," he said.

It comes as thousands of Haitians in the U.S. are facing a potential return to their home country after the Trump administration ended their temporary protected status (TPS) that was first granted after an earthquake in 2010.

Mast argued, however, that the return of those Haitians who did not get permanent residency in those 16 years could potentially help bolster security there.

"One of the big things would be to take the able-bodied males and put them into the police and military, which are actively recruiting, which were so decimated by the TPS taking place in the first place," he said. "All of these people took the chance to say 'Okay, I'm leaving,' and it left their forces that are supposed to protect the country essentially with no forces, which is one of the other parts of how the gangs came to be."

Kentucky governor calls on McConnell to prove he is fit to serve or resign: 'Address the people'

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, a Democrat, is demanding that Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., prove he is fit to continue serving in Congress after a lengthy hospital stay or resign from office.

In a letter to McConnell obtained by Fox News, the governor urged the 84-year-old senator to directly address the people of Kentucky about his ability to serve.

"I am calling on you to directly and verbally address the people of Kentucky and provide proof of your capacity to serve, or resign," Beshear wrote to McConnell.

MCCONNELL OUT OF HOSPITAL, STILL NOT 'MEDICALLY CLEARED' TO RETURN TO SENATE

Beshear made the demand after McConnell’s office announced on Monday that he had been discharged from the hospital but had not yet been medically cleared to leave the rehabilitation facility where he has been undergoing physical therapy and return to office.

The senator's office said he would miss a major Kentucky political event and upcoming Senate votes.

"I'm still working hard to get back to my full schedule of work in the Senate and in Kentucky, keeping up with intense physical therapy per my doctors’ orders. Unfortunately, that means I won’t be able to make it to Fancy Farm, Kentucky, this Saturday ... As always, I appreciate all of your continued well wishes, and I’m looking forward to getting back to the Senate and to Kentucky soon," McConnell said in a statement.

McConnell was hospitalized on June 14 and later revealed that it was due to a fall at his home.

'THIS IS NOT NORMAL': AOC UNLOADS ON MCCONNELL'S PROLONGED ABSENCE

"Since his discharge from hospital care, he has maintained a strenuous course of physical therapy and rehabilitation, including multiple sessions a day designed to rebuild strength and reduce the risk of future falls. His bout with childhood polio continues to be a significant factor in his mobility. He is not yet medically cleared to leave the rehab facility and return to the office," the Attending Physician's office said in a statement.

The physician’s statement focused on McConnell’s mobility, physical rehabilitation and risk of future falls and did not raise concerns about his cognitive condition.

Beshear first urged McConnell earlier this month to release more information about his health after weeks of no public comments.

Fox News also obtained a letter the governor sent Tuesday to Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., calling on him to investigate McConnell’s condition if the senator did not prove he was capable of continuing his term.

"All of this speculation and even this letter could have been avoided with a minimal amount of transparency," Beshear wrote to Thune.

Despite past calls to make the popular vote the deciding factor for presidential elections in Maine, Troy Jackson, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Maine, is facing backlash for embracing his newfound Democratic Party nomination despite a process that circumvented the usual statewide consideration.

The Maine Senate election spun out of control for Democrats earlier this month when sexual assault allegations emerged against the party’s official candidate, Graham Platner.

Scrambling in response to the fallout, Maine Democrats announced they would create an open process, allowing potential replacement candidates to submit their intent to run and begin collecting signatures to appear on the ballot. Then, a convention of 601 delegates would vote to select the new nominee.

"We have worked hard to create a fair process that is inclusive of varying viewpoints and diverse backgrounds of Democrats across the state of Maine, as we all come together in service of our ultimate goal: defeat Susan Collins and win this Senate seat," the Maine Democrats website states.

"These circumstances are unprecedented, but our state party is ready and capable of rising to this challenge."

Kristen Cianci, a spokesperson for the Republican National Committee, unleashed on Jackson and the process that made him the nominee.

"It’s become increasingly clear that Troy Jackson will shapeshift into anything he needs to in order to gain power – including abandoning the belief that voters should decide elections," Cianci said in a statement.

"Mainers want a senator they can trust, not a snake-oil-salesman standing ready to sell them out at a moment’s notice," she added.

But even before the process began, political observers believed Jackson, a fellow progressive like Platner, would prevail. Like Platner, Jackson has called for universal healthcare, the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), severing U.S. military aid to Israel and raising taxes on the nation’s top earners.

Shannon Watts, a political activist and commentator who opposed Platner’s nomination, wasted no time in blasting Jackson as a possible alternative.

"So no, we’re not going to pick this f---ing guy," Watts said, anticipating the party’s progressive support for Jackson despite his own reported misconduct. Jackson allegedly threw a water bottle at fellow Democratic state senator Heather Sanborn in 2021, an outburst Jackson has since apologized for.

Despite apprehension from Watts and concern from other Democrats about pre-selecting a candidate, of the 601 delegates at the Maine convention on Saturday, 456 came out already committed to Jackson’s nomination — roughly 75% of the delegates. In the end, Jackson won 566 delegates, or 94% of the total support.

Jackson did not immediately respond to requests for comment on whether he saw his nomination as a circumvention of the regular primary process.

In the past, Jackson has stressed the importance of Democratic participation.

"I've always believed that our democracy is at its best when everyone has a chance to participate – whether I agree with you on an issue or not," Jackson posted on X in 2020 leading up to a Maine Democratic primary.

In 2019, he sponsored legislation that would have Maine award its electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote, citing his support for direct democracy.

"Let’s total all the votes up across the country, and whoever gets the most votes wins; that seems a simple premise to me," Jackson told local media outlets in 2019.

Since his nomination, Jackson has insisted he can represent all factions of the Democratic Party, even without a statewide vote to cement his nomination.

"There is a place in this campaign for all of you. There is work for you in this movement. And I will spend every day now through November earning that trust, because today we turn the page. Today, this becomes a general election campaign, and today we begin the work of defeating Susan Collins in November," Jackson said after his nomination.

Antisemitic violence reaches deadliest level since 1994, new global report finds

A shocking new report says 2025 was the deadliest year for antisemitic attacks worldwide since 1994.

The J7 Large Communities’ Task Force Against Antisemitism released its second annual report, which tracks antisemitic hatred in the seven countries outside of Israel where over 90% of Jews live. According to the report, 20 people were killed in antisemitic attacks in 2025. All of the deadly attacks took place in J7 countries.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is one of two organizations representing the Jewish diaspora in the U.S. in the J7, which includes similar organizations from Australia, Canada, Argentina, the U.S., the U.K., Germany and France.

According to the report, each of the countries face an environment where antisemitism is "no longer confined to the fringes." Countries are witnessing anti-Zionism associated with the conflict in Gaza becoming "a vehicle for antisemitic expression" and educational institutions becoming an "acute flashpoint" for hatred. Combined with growing online extremism, Jewish people "across the globe report hiding their Jewish identity in public" and questioning "whether they have a future in their home countries."

Individually, the report shows how countries face their own unique challenges in quashing hatred.

Australia, which has seen a 270% increase in antisemitic incidents since 2021, was home to the Bondi Beach terror attack in December 2025, during which 15 people were killed. The report says that both Islamist and left-wing extremist threats in the country "need to be prioritized, and dealt with effectively."

In Germany, a 215% increase in antisemitic incidents has been coupled with the highest per capita rate of incidents, with 69.8 incidents per 1,000 Jewish residents in 2025 for a total of 8,725 incidents.

The report said that normalization of hate "remains the most pressing challenge" in Germany, with the rise in incidents attributed to the "confluence of far-right ethno-nationalism, left-wing anti-Zionism, and Islamist extremism simultaneously."

In Canada, which has experienced a 60% rise in antisemitic incidents since 2021, there is a concern that "foreign state interference" is at play, in addition to "the exploitation of domestic institutions by extremist networks."

The U.S. has had a 131% increase in antisemitic incidents since 2021. Though antisemitic incidents declined significantly from 2024, the 6,274 antisemitic incidents tracked in 2025 included 300 reports of physical assault.

France has witnessed a rise in antisemitic incidents of 124% since 2021. The report notes that there is "a growing climate of discrimination" where Jews in France report being refused service, denied contracts and excluded from events.

In the U.K., which has experienced a 64% increase in antisemitic incidents since 2021, 48% of 3,700 antisemitic incidents were motivated by anti-Zionism, and 53% included references to the conflict involving Gaza.

Though the government in Argentina is pro-Israel, the country "has generated conspiratorial antisemitic backlash from the left and from fringe nationalist movements," the report said. Since 2021, Argentina has seen a 46% increase in antisemitic incidents.

The J7 report also added a special chapter on antisemitism in Ireland, which is not a J7 country. While Ireland has only a 2,200-person Jewish community, it has reported 143 incidents of antisemitism. Despite antisemitism in Ireland taking hold "primarily in everyday settings," unlike J7 countries, Ireland has no national plan for combating antisemitism and no security funding for the Jewish population.

Erdemir said that "the most urgent priority for every government should be protecting Jewish communities and institutions before they're attacked, not after." He called on law enforcement to "hold perpetrators fully accountable," but said that "the real goal has to be stopping attacks before they happen and preventing Jews from being driven out of public spaces, not just responding once the damage is done."

Erdemir said, "Governments can't rely on security alone. It takes a whole-of-society effort, government, business, schools, civil society and everyday citizens, to root out the hate targeting Jewish communities worldwide. And because this hate crosses borders, so must the response: governments, international bodies and NGOs around the world need to work together, not in isolation."

The top Republican on New Jersey’s Judiciary Committee says she repeatedly warned state officials that automatic voter registration lacked adequate safeguards but was routinely dismissed, as thousands more noncitizens have now been found on sensitive systems.

Sen. Kristin Corrado, R-Totowa, told Fox News Digital that Gov. Mikie Sherrill's motor voter controversy reinforced Republican demands for a bipartisan investigation with subpoena power, warning the administration's review was too narrowly focused and likely failed to capture the full scope of the problem.

"We didn't just reach out to the Motor Vehicle Commissioner. We reached out to secretary of state [at the time, Lt. Gov. Taheshia Way]. We were not satisfied with the answers that we got from the motor vehicle commissioner, which I can tell you were basically, ‘we have signs up, they're put on notice… that if you're not a citizen, you can't register to vote’."

"So people were on the honor system. We did not think that was acceptable or satisfactory or enough of a safeguard," she said, adding that the common refrain was of an "honor system."

Corrado and others, including Senate Minority Leader Anthony Bucco, are now demanding a bipartisan special investigation with subpoena power.

Asked if they had heard from Senate President Nicholas Scutari, D-Linden, Corrado said his team indicated they wanted to wait for Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s own internal probe to finish.

"I have concerns about that because this independent investigation is very limited in scope. It is limited to what they're calling the motor vehicle ‘glitch’," she said, warning scrutiny should go far beyond the initial area of discovery.

Shortly after Corrado spoke to Fox News Digital, reports surfaced that roughly 75,000 noncitizens had been summoned for jury duty through state databases, according to multiple reports, broadening the controversy beyond the Motor Vehicle Commission and prompting additional Republican calls for a wider investigation.

Corrado pointed to her repeated requests over the years for clarity on the security of the voting systems and how she was rebuffed as proof the probe needs to be substantial.

Asked about the demand for a full-scale investigation, Scutari credited what the governor is already doing and said he would hold fire until her probe finishes.

"A healthy democracy depends on the security of our voter registration systems and the stewardship of the individuals entrusted with ensuring our elections are free, fair, and accessible. It also depends on public trust, and Governor Sherrill deserves credit for being transparent about these failures… [and] launch[ing] an independent investigation…," Scutari said in part, confirming Corrado’s comment that he would wait for it to finish.

Former Gov. Phil Murphy’s spokesman Mahen Gunaratna also told Fox News last week that his boss had "no knowledge" of the issues at the MVC.

"I find that hard to believe, but it's incredibly troubling that the governor did not know what his cabinet members were doing or what was going on right underneath him," Corrado responded.

"All [this] put our election integrity at risk, all questions that have to be answered. And the only way to answer those questions is through a bipartisan, legislative committee."

State Joint Budget Committee ranking member Declan O’Scanlon agreed the scandal validated GOP concerns.

"The fact is that the people in charge for so long said this absolutely was impossible; Republicans were ‘conspiracy theorists’," said O’Scanlon, R-Little Silver.

"There are some folks on the extreme on both sides, but those of us in the middle who have said there are real issues here, and they were ignored, and we were accused of being conspiracy theorists, only to find out that we were absolutely right; again."

O’Scanlon said he believed the motor-voter revelations were the "tip of the iceberg," and was hours later proven true, as reports surfaced about the 75,000 noncitizens summoned for jury duty.

"This has the potential to be a real scandal," he warned, agreeing that subpoena-powered hearings are a must.

"We need to get on this quickly because we have elections coming up that are critical, that could be slim margins. And also you want the people of New Jersey to believe in the integrity of their voter rolls and their elections," he said.

"We shouldn't dig this hole any deeper."

Fox News Digital reached out to NJCourts and to Sherrill's office for comment.

Peter McAleer, a spokesman for the state court system, told Fox News Digital the jury system pulls from the MVC as well as taxation and elections department lists, with the taxation department legally being permitted to have noncitizens on its own rolls.

"Prospective jurors are asked about their citizenship and other qualifications when they complete the mandatory juror qualification questionnaire. Prospective jurors must certify that they understand that if they submit a knowingly false answer, they can be subject to punishment for contempt of court," he said. "Approximately 75,000 individuals per year are disqualified from juror service based solely on lack of United States citizenship."

Corrado and Bucco also dropped a bill to eliminate motor-voter and implement voter-ID and regular audits of election data systems.

"New Jerseyans need more than just excuses and finger pointing, they deserve action, and there are commonsense steps we can take right now," said Bucco, R-Morristown.

"Get the MVC out of the voter registration business."

State Sen. Joe Pennacchio, R-Boonton, who recently requested additional scrutiny from Attorney General Todd Blanche himself, told Fox News Digital on Saturday the 75,000 figure is a red-flag that Trenton can’t police itself.

"The disclosure that 75,000 noncitizens were summoned as potential members of juries screams for a thorough federal investigation," Pennacchio said in a Monday statement.

"The governor has blamed [French software firm] IDEMIA, the Murphy administration and, of course, President Donald Trump for their ever-increasing numbers," he said, calling Sherrill’s investigatory effort a "whitewash."

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos says he's "still positive" the Nancy Guthrie case will be resolved as investigators continue to dig through evidence more than 25 weeks after her home invasion abduction in Tucson, Arizona.

"We have so much DNA to sort through," Nanos said in an interview aired on "Today."

Guthrie is the 84-year-old mother of one of the show's co-hosts, Savannah Guthrie.

A federal source told Fox News Monday that Guthrie consulted with law enforcement before releasing the video.

Nanos did not immediately respond to follow-up questions from Fox News Digital. Investigators had scoured the neighborhoods surrounding Guthrie's home and her daughter Annie's house nearby in search of video evidence that might show a suspect or suspect vehicle earlier in the investigation.

"I wonder how many 'leads' they’ve covered," said Jason Pack, a retired FBI supervisory agent who has been closely following the case. "There would be thousands...running down every device on the phone tower and their Wi-Fi router etc."

The case would not be considered cold until all potential leads are exhausted without answers, experts have told Fox News Digital, and Pack said it doesn't appear to have gone cold yet.

"If the sheriff says they have that much DNA and all of that video, then I don’t think you can call it cold until they’ve rectified those leads one way or the other," he said.

There are likely terabytes worth of digital evidence in the case, he said.

China, Russia, Iran and North Korea form 'axis of aggressors' that could overwhelm US, book warns

China, Russia, Iran and North Korea are acting as a strategically aligned bloc even without a formal mutual-defense treaty, according to a new Foundation for Defense of Democracies book warning that their cooperation could leave the United States confronting multiple crises simultaneously.

The book, "Axis of Aggressors: Countering the Cooperation of China, Russia, Iran and North Korea," examines how the four authoritarian governments support one another across military, economic, cyber and technology domains.

Its authors acknowledge that the grouping is not a NATO-style alliance. It has no unified command, comprehensive defense commitment or complete trust among its members. But they argue that its practical effects are already visible in active conflicts.

"I just got back from a couple of weeks in Ukraine, and when I’m sitting in Ukraine, it’s really obvious to me that Ukraine is fighting Russia, North Korea, Iran and China," retired Rear Adm. Mark Montgomery, one of the book’s three authors, told Fox News Digital.

Montgomery pointed to North Korean ammunition and troops, Iranian drones and production expertise, and Chinese economic and technological support for Moscow.

"China is backstopping the whole thing, providing the economic backstop to Russia’s economy so they can survive this four-year catastrophic event for Russia," Montgomery said. "They’re providing microelectronics that we see in ballistic, cruise and hypersonic missiles."

The book’s researchers documented 616 instances of security cooperation among the four governments from Jan. 1, 2019, through Dec. 31, 2025, including arms transfers, weapons development, military exercises, intelligence sharing and military exchanges.

A ‘simultaneity problem’ for the U.S.

The central danger, Montgomery said, is what the book calls the "simultaneity problem."

"We don’t get to handle these with a singularity anymore. We have to handle this with a simultaneity," he said. "And I don’t think we can handle two problems at once, much less three or four."

During a potential confrontation between China and Taiwan, Montgomery said, North Korea could threaten South Korea or conduct limited attacks intended to pin down U.S. forces. A conflict involving Russia and NATO’s Baltic members could be accompanied by Iranian terrorism or other hostile activity.

The book identifies China-Russia military cooperation as the axis’s most consequential bilateral relationship. Chinese dual-use products have helped sustain Russia’s defense industrial base, while Moscow is transferring technology and battlefield lessons that could assist China in a Pacific conflict.

North Korea has supplied Russia with millions of artillery rounds, ballistic missiles and troops, while Moscow has assisted Pyongyang’s missile, space, drone and nuclear programs, according to the book.

Iran has provided Russia with drones and production knowledge. The book warns that Russian and Chinese assistance could also help Tehran rebuild military capabilities damaged during its conflicts with Israel and the United States.

"The longer they can entangle the United States, whether it was in Ukraine or in Iran, China and Russia are the primary beneficiaries," Montgomery said.

China bankrolls the axis

Economic ties underpin the military cooperation, according to co-author Elaine Dezenski, who described the four-country economy as a "fractured alignment."

"These four players are bound together more by necessity than they are by a specific trust or shared strategy among them," Dezenski told Fox News Digital. "China needs energy. Russia and Iran need buyers for their oil and gas. And North Korea needs any lifeline that it can get."

China purchases discounted Russian and Iranian energy while providing goods, technology and access to its domestic market.

The relationships remain unequal. Russia and Iran compete to sell similar products, while China can seek other suppliers. But Dezenski said those divisions should not obscure the benefits the cooperation provides.

"The economics of this very much underpin the foundations for the military engagement that we see," she said.

The book says China purchases as much as 95% of Iran’s oil exports. Some sanctioned oil is routed through third countries, relabeled or processed by independent Chinese refineries known as "teapots."

"The export juggernaut that is China today is fueled by sanctioned oil and gas," Dezenski said.

New payment networks challenge U.S. leverage

Dezenski also warned that China, Russia and Iran are developing payment systems outside traditional Western banking infrastructure. More trade is being settled in yuan through China’s Cross-Border Interbank Payment System, or CIPS, potentially reducing Washington’s ability to enforce sanctions through the dollar system.

"We need to really think about that sooner rather than later, before this alternative payment system becomes too big to tackle," Dezenski said.

Cyber ties blur the state-criminal line

Montgomery said the line between criminal hackers and government operatives is often deliberately blurred in all four countries.

"These regimes routinely outsource work to criminal groups to keep their own hands clean, and those groups are increasingly networking with each other," he said.

The book cites ties involving Iranian cybercriminals and Russian ransomware groups, Chinese actors on Russian dark-web forums, and Russian and North Korean state-backed hackers using shared operational infrastructure.

Outside experts see an integrated threat

Carrie Filipetti, executive director of the Vandenberg Coalition and a former State Department official during the first Trump administration, said drone warfare demonstrates how assistance moves among the countries.

"Chinese components are used to create Iranian drones, which are then deployed by the Russians against Ukrainian civilians," Filipetti told Fox News Digital.

She said the relationship has also endangered American troops, pointing to the January 2024 Tower 22 attack in Jordan, which killed three U.S. Army Reserve soldiers and wounded more than 40 service members.

"The military and ideological relationship between Russia and Iran is not just a theoretical threat to the United States — American service members have been killed as a result of it," Filipetti said.

Filipetti said the attack used an Iranian drone and Russian tactics developed during the war in Ukraine. "These adversaries don’t agree on everything, but they do on one thing: to reorient the world away from America and the West," she said. "Our service members and citizens will continue to suffer until we treat the threat as the united threat it is."

Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Richard Newton said the danger stems not only from military modernization in each country, but from the degree to which the four governments are increasingly coordinating.

"I couldn’t agree more with the underlying findings the authors present regarding the rapid military modernization unfolding across multiple domains — air, sea, land, space and cyber — emanating from China, Russia, Iran and North Korea," Newton told Fox News Digital.

"These nation-states represent extraordinary adversarial challenges for the United States. That’s concerning enough," he said. "But a major challenge President Trump is facing in his second administration is the level and degree of integration, synchronization and coordination among these four adversaries, who are more unified today than ever in their collective pursuits to threaten U.S. national security interests."

Newton said the changing character of warfare, demonstrated by more than four years of fighting between Russia and Ukraine and the current U.S.-Iran conflict, has compounded the threat.

"Couple that with the changing nature of warfare we’ve been witnessing," he said, "and the task to defend our nation is now much more complex and daunting."

Retired Air Force Gen. Philip Breedlove, who served as NATO supreme allied commander and commander of U.S. European Command from 2013 to 2016, argued that Washington’s language understates the severity of the confrontation.

"We often say that we are in ‘strategic competition’ with China and Russia. They are at war with us," Breedlove told Fox News Digital.

Breedlove said China, Russia, Iran and North Korea "are not partners looking for cooperation with the U.S.," but governments seeking to "diminish and defeat" American power.

"The enemy gets a vote," Breedlove said. "Our enemies are voting by their support to Russia and Iran."

He added that assistance from the other countries has become increasingly important to Moscow as it struggles to sustain its war.

"Aid is critical to Russia," Breedlove said. "Russia is failing and becoming ever more dependent on its allies."

The authors recommend stronger coordination with allies, expanded defense production, greater protection of U.S. critical infrastructure and more aggressive sanctions enforcement.

Dezenski called for targeting the full network supporting sanctioned Russian and Iranian oil, including refineries, ports, insurers and financiers, rather than focusing primarily on individual vessels.

"We need to treat this axis as a threat, as a combined threat," Montgomery said, "that will confront us in every one of our crisis areas."

It's National Chicken Wing Day, and fans of one of America's most iconic foods have reason to celebrate: Wing prices have fallen after years of soaring costs.

Wholesale whole wing prices are down from a year ago. There's also a steady supply available, according to a July market trend report published by Performance Foodservice.

It's likely chicken wing lovers will be able to take advantage of those lower wholesale costs through deals and specials at restaurants, Kipper Greist, managing partner of Jumby Bay Island Grill in Jupiter, Florida, told Fox News Digital.

"Prices fluctuate constantly on every menu item," Greist said. "If one item drops, three go up. The cost of reprinting menus is thousands of dollars, so it isn't cost-effective to raise or lower prices when the market changes. We would rather offer specials like our 99-cent wings on Wednesdays and during football season."

The lower prices come as chicken production has outpaced expectations, helping keep wing supplies strong and wholesale costs in check.

The dip in cost was due to U.S. meat-chicken producers "boosting domestic production by 2.2% in 2025, aided by lower feed costs," Wells Fargo reported.

"Chicken production, including wings, of course, is running ahead of earlier expectations as hatchability and liveability have somewhat surprisingly improved," Tom Super, senior vice president of public affairs for the National Chicken Council (NCC), told Fox News Digital. "That is, the poultry genetists and live-production management have apparently begun to overcome these two challenges."

Wholesale wing prices have strengthened this week, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, but they remain a bargain for restaurants and grocery retailers, Super said.

"With the wing supply somewhat fixed, fluctuating consumer demand heavily influences the ups and downs in wholesale prices," Super said.

Wholesale wing prices opened in 2025 below $1.00 per pound and rose only modestly to slightly above $1.10 per pound — a 66% decline from their historic pandemic-era high above $3.20 per pound, according to Southern Ag Today.

"When wing prices rise to unattractive levels for food service buyers, they tend to pull back on wing promotions and special price offerings," Super said.

"Then, as wing prices move to much more affordable levels, food service buyers, especially those dedicated to wings, jump back into marketing wings more aggressively."

Chicken wings are also "an affordable protein option," according to the NCC.

"Consumers are continuing to value and appreciate wholesome protein in their foods," Super said.

This trend, combined with favorable pricing, offers chicken wing lovers the opportunity to gather with friends and family affordably, he added.

"If there is one menu item that never grows old, it's the chicken wing," Greist said. "Its versatility attracts every genre. It can be an appetizer for a group or a meal for others."

Every wing lover is different, Greist said.

"Some like a large, meaty wing, while others prefer the smaller wings," he said. "The sauce is where it's at! Customers are trending away from traditional sauces and experimenting more with hot garlic, garlic Parmesan, Thai chili and mango barbecue."

The origin story of America's love affair with the chicken wing varies, but a widely accepted version credits the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York, with popularizing one of the least-desirable parts of the chicken by deep-frying the wings, coating them in hot butter sauce and serving them with blue-cheese dressing and celery.

After opening Monday as one of the signature installations of the nationwide America250 celebration, the National Military Monument sponsored by USAA honors more than 41 million Americans whose military service spans from the Revolutionary War through today.

Built from military records, public databases, veterans organizations and voluntary submissions, the interactive installation invites visitors to discover their own family's place in American history rather than simply observe it. Fox News Digital received an exclusive preview ahead of the public opening.

Unlike many of Washington's memorials, which commemorate presidents, battles or individual wars, organizers say the National Military Monument was designed to recognize the millions of Americans whose names rarely appear in history books but whose service helped shape the country over the last 250 years.

Visitors begin not by reading a plaque, but by pulling out their smartphones.

After scanning a QR code at one of several kiosks, visitors receive a six-digit code that summons a loved one's name onto one of two towering digital American flags overlooking the Reflecting Pool. Each side of the monument cycles through roughly 1,500 names every 45 seconds, or about 480,000 names every hour.

Standing on the Lincoln Memorial Plaza between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, the installation was placed there because organizers wanted one of the National Mall's most heavily visited locations during the America250 celebration.

Families gathered around kiosks searching for relatives. Veterans waited quietly as names appeared overhead. At one point, George Washington's name stretched across the display, a visual reminder that the monument traces military service all the way from Lexington and Concord to Afghanistan and beyond.

The monument combines military records and public databases dating back to the Revolutionary War along with information from veterans service organizations and USAA members who chose to participate. Because no single government archive contains every American who has served, organizers say the project will continue growing as veterans and families verify military service and submit names not yet represented. Some currently serving military members and veterans may not appear because of privacy protections or gaps in historical records.

For Navy veteran and USAA Creative Director John Guzman, the monument's purpose became clear with one search.

Standing beside one of the kiosks during Fox News Digital's preview, Guzman entered the name of his grandfather, Walter Allen, who served during World War II.

"There he is," Guzman said as his grandfather's name appeared across the monument.

Even though he knew what would happen, the moment caught him off guard.

"Even though I knew I was going to find him, it's still heavy to see it come up in all of the best ways," he said.

"This is one of the role models I had growing up from a very, very young child. And even though he's not with us now, the whole family would be incredibly proud to see him here."

Asked what his grandfather would think, Guzman smiled.

"I know him well enough to know he would say there's about 100 other guys he'd rather see up there... I can hear his voice right now saying that."

The same experience played out for first-time visitors Tim and Tenika Eardley, who traveled from Wyoming expecting to see Washington's historic landmarks—not the newest one.

The couple searched for a family member currently serving in the National Guard.

"My uncle and her brother—we looked him up on there," their son, Warren Eardley said. "That was really neat just to be able to see him on there."

For Tenika, the experience transformed the monument from a tourist attraction into something personal.

"It feels really meaningful to be able to know that I can look up any relative or friend or anything like that and be able find them and honor them," she said.

"It feels like such a personalized experience that we really can see those people that we know and love honored right here in D.C."

Bob Labrutta, a retired Air Force major general who now serves as USAA's vice president of survivorship, said that reaction is exactly what organizers hoped visitors would experience.

After nearly four decades in uniform, Labrutta said he thought he understood what the monument represented until he searched for members of his own family.

"I've got two brothers that served," he said. "But when I brought my dad's name up on the side of the wall and I saw him commemorated... I had tears in my eyes and my heart filled with pure joy and pride. Pride in this country. Pride in USAA for doing this."

"Because this is what we should be doing each and every day: honoring, thanking and paying tribute to the military members who have served this nation so nobly."

Labrutta said the installation was intentionally designed to honor not only decorated military leaders but the millions of Americans whose service often goes unrecognized.

"I wouldn't say our soldiers are ordinary," he said. "Our soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, Coast Guard members, our Guardians—none of them are ordinary."

"When they raise their right hand, they say not only, 'Send me,' but 'I'm willing to give up my life for this great country.' That makes them extraordinary."

While the monument was created during the nation's semiquincentennial celebration, Labrutta said its purpose extends beyond America's 250th birthday.

"It doesn't just apply to military families," he said. "It applies to all American citizens."

"We wouldn't have had an Independence Day if we wouldn't have had citizens that raised their hand and said, 'You know what? This is worth fighting for.'"

Generation after generation, he said, Americans have protected the freedoms the country enjoys today.

French man discovers 5 dead babies hidden in boxes in his home after argument with wife: prosecutors

A man in France discovered remains believed to belong to five newborns hidden inside cardboard boxes in his home after his partner gave birth at home and was taken to a hospital, according to prosecutors.

He became distressed after he found out about her pregnancy at ⁠a very late stage, despite her repeated denials, and began searching their home, prosecutors said. The couple already had two children, ages 8 and 9.

The woman, 32, who was not identified, was allegedly arguing with her husband over what was in the boxes at their home in the town of Orange on Monday after she gave birth at home to a baby boy the day before.

She started complaining about abdominal pain during the argument on Monday. She was taken to a hospital and her husband stayed behind and discovered the dead babies hidden in the boxes.

The man, also 32, then notified authorities through the hospital where the woman was being treated for pain.

"The husband stayed behind when she was taken to the hospital, and looked inside the cardboard boxes they had been arguing over – that’s when he found the five dead babies," an investigating source said, according to the US Sun. "All the [fetuses] were decomposing, and had been around for quite a while."

Police searched the couple's home, and prosecutors opened a criminal investigation into suspected murder on Monday.

A forensic pathologist estimated, based on initial findings, that the bones and decomposing remains belonged to five newborns.

The man told ‌police ⁠he was unaware of his wife's possible pregnancies.

The public prosecutor's office urged child welfare services to assess the health of the couple's 8- and 9-year-old children. It also issued a provisional placement ⁠order for the newborn baby, pending referral of the case to a children's court judge.

The mother, who was still in the hospital on Tuesday, has not yet spoken to investigators.

A post-mortem examination has been ordered on the decomposing remains, and the bones will undergo anthropological analysis in a laboratory, according to prosecutors.

The couple had no history of problems and were described by a neighbor as "charming people," according to French outlet AFP.

The neighbor, Florent Jean, told the outlet that the wife was a stay-at-home mother and the husband worked. Jean said the two were "normal people, really."

No Jews on Mamdani’s 'truly representative' NYC judiciary panel, sparking backlash

City Hall repeatedly touted New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s 19-member judiciary advisory panel as a "truly representative cross-section" of New York City’s legal profession — but four Jewish bar associations say not one Jewish member was appointed.

The groups, backed by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), are demanding Mamdani correct what they called a profound omission from the influential committee, which screens and recommends candidates for judgeships across the five boroughs and across various different courts, including Criminal Court, Family Court and, on an interim basis, Civil Court.

City Hall touted Mamdani’s 19-member judiciary advisory panel as a "truly representative cross-section" when it was announced July 22. Meanwhile, Mamdani’s own Jan. 2 executive order establishing the committee stated that its membership "shall reflect the cosmopolitan population of the City of New York."

"The members announced today offer a truly representative cross-section of the legal profession in New York City, bringing a wide range of professional experience from all five boroughs to the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on the Judiciary," said Ramzi Kassem, chief counsel to the mayor and City Hall, who supervises the activities of the Committee.

"Under Mayor Mamdani’s leadership, [the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on the Judiciary] will reach across the legal community to build a broad and highly qualified pool of judicial applicants," Kassem continued. "An independent and impartial judiciary composed of jurists who have served their fellow New Yorkers in a range of legal circumstances is essential to a healthy democracy, and these appointments reflect our administration’s commitment to a fair, inclusive and transparent judicial selection process."

But the Brandeis Association, Jewish Lawyers Guild, Brooklyn Brandeis Society and Queens Brandeis Association — along with other critics — say the absence of even one Jewish member from the 19-person panel exposes a glaring contradiction between City Hall’s rhetoric and its appointments.

"At a time when antisemitism is rising and Jewish communities are increasingly under threat, excluding Jewish voices from this influential body is not only disheartening, it is dangerous," the groups wrote in a joint letter they sent to Mamdani on Monday. "The absence of Jewish representation on a committee entrusted with shaping the future of our judiciary sends a deeply troubling message to the Jewish community and undermines the committee’s credibility and ability to serve all New Yorkers fairly."

In addition to Mamdani, the four groups sent the letter to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, New York Attorney General Letitia James and New York Chief Judge Rowan Wilson, along with other state, city and judicial officials.

The letter's warning, which included calls to "correct this exclusion," came amid renewed fears over Jewish safety in the city.

On Tuesday, a hammer-carrying intruder entered the grounds of the Jewish Institute of Queens and shoved an 8-year-old boy into a fence during a struggle with security, leaving the child with a head injury, authorities said. Police did not believe the boy was the intended target, and investigators have not established a motive.

The frightening episode followed last week’s alleged hate-crime attack on an Orthodox Jewish man who was stabbed in the chest with a screwdriver shortly after leaving an Upper West Side synagogue. Prosecutors say the suspect shouted "Justice for Islam" and "Allahu Akbar" before committing the attack.

The mayor’s office, the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on the Judiciary and committee Chairman Ali Najmi did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment by publication time. However, Mamdani press secretary Joe Calvello told NBC New York that any suggestion the appointments to the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on the Judiciary were motivated by religion was "false."

Calvello said Mamdani had appointed "a dozen qualified judges from a range of backgrounds, including Jewish judges," and said the administration declined to appoint retired Justice John Leventhal, who is Jewish, after learning he had served on Ghislaine Maxwell’s legal team.

"Make no mistake, the leader of the Democrat Party, Mayor Mamdani, is working to bulldoze the rest of New York government to fit his ideology," Mark Bednar, a principal at Monument Advocacy who previously led communications for former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and served as communications director for then-Rep. Sean Duffy, told Fox News Digital. "Americans of all backgrounds should take notice of the threat his ideology poses, and to sound the alarm about anyone he appoints to important positions."

Jewish civil rights attorney Gerard Filitti argued that the absence of Jewish members was particularly glaring in a city with the largest Jewish population in the country. He also pointed out the committee’s influence over the courts that hear hate-crime cases.

"His own chief counsel called the slate a truly representative cross-section of the city's legal profession, in the city with the largest Jewish population in America, on the panel that will pick the judges who hear hate-crime cases," Filitti wrote on X. "City Hall did not deny the exclusion. It changed the subject to judges Mamdani appointed elsewhere. Jewish New Yorkers are owed the same representation as everyone else, and this mayor just seated a panel that gives them none."
