Disney chief Dana Walden dodges when asked about Jimmy Kimmel's future as ABC's late-night host

LOS ANGELES — A top Disney executive refrained from weighing in on Jimmy Kimmel's future at ABC as his role as a late-night host for the long term remains in question.

Dana Walden, The Walt Disney Company's president and chief creative officer, appeared Thursday at the Bloomberg Screentime summit and was asked by Bloomberg's Lucas Shaw whether Kimmel will be hosting his late-night show "a year from now."

"Well, I'm certainly not going to make that announcement with you here today," Walden awkwardly responded with a grin.

Shaw then asked why it isn't a "no-brainer" for Disney to keep Kimmel on air, pointing to a boost in ratings and his status as a "free speech hero" following his clashes with President Donald Trump and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Brendan Carr.

"The truth is, it's a very challenging day part, late night," Walden responded. "That's not to say that Jimmy is not doing a phenomenal job, and his ratings are up, but they're up relative to a smaller audience that's watching late night on broadcast television."

"Obviously, there's a YouTube channel. Millions of people are watching On Demand, the parts of that show — that is not a lucrative opportunity for a very premium talk show. So we're trying to make sense of the business while also honoring a deep partnership," she continued.

"I love Jimmy. We have a great friendship," Walden continued. "He's close to a number of the people at Disney. And again, we're trying to work through it and make sense of both what does Jimmy want, what's the right thing to do and what's right thing for our business."

There has been unconfirmed speculation that the current season of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" will be its last and officially bow out in 2027. It would come following a tumultuous year for Kimmel, including when Disney briefly suspended his show in September 2025 after he sparked backlash for comments he made about the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. He also clashed with the White House earlier this year after he joked that first lady Melania Trump had "a glow like an expectant widow."

At the same event on Wednesday, comedian Conan O'Brien lamented the decline in the late-night TV landscape.

"I saw over my 17 years with NBC ... I started to see, oh, this is really changing. This is really changing," O'Brien said. "They're asking us to be much more cost-conscious. And it was for a good reason, which is that, you know, HBO, Cinemax, these are the things [that] are coming up. There's more networks — instead of one late night show, 'The Tonight Show,' there's now 'Tonight Show' and there's David Letterman's show, then there are other shows."

"It's a little like Detroit and automobiles," he added, referencing the decline in the U.S. auto industry as competition increased from Japan and Europe.

O'Brien spent decades on late-night television between his stints on NBC and TBS before transitioning into podcasts, now hosting "Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend." TBS ultimately scrapped its late-night programming in 2022 following the cancellation of "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee."

Earlier this year, CBS pulled the plug on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," replacing it with Byron Allen's syndicated comic talk show "Comics Unleashed." "The Late Show" reportedly was losing CBS $40 million a year and had been running on a whopping $100 million budget per season.

While the viewership of "Comics Unleashed" is a fraction of the audience that Stephen Colbert had, it was reported that CBS now expects to make a $15 million profit in the same time slot due to the massive cost-cutting.

Country star Luke Combs says he’s 'down 30 lbs' during elk hunting trip

Country music star Luke Combs is celebrating an impressive 30-lb weight loss during a recent hunting trip in Utah.

Earlier this week, Combs was seen in a vlog posted on the Leupold Optics YouTube page. "I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time," Combs said at the start of the video, before revealing his weight loss.

"I'm down 30-lbs since last time. You probably can't tell because the camera adds 30-lbs, but I am down a little bit from last time," he continued.

The "Fast Car" singer said that getting healthy has been his "main goal."

In the vlog, Combs noted that his main goal for the hunting trip was to shoot, preferably with a bow, and tag a mature elk. At the end of the vlog, the country music star was not able to kill an elk with a bow, but was successful with a rifle.

In 2022, Combs sat down for an interview with Apple Music and admitted that having kids was a big factor for him in getting his weight down.

"This having a kid thing has really messed up my head on this thing in the best way. I want to be around, dude. Do you know what I mean?" he began.

The "Beautiful Crazy" singer said that his genetics played a large part in his inability to lose weight.

"It was always something that’s bugged me … especially when you’re younger. You’re like, ‘Man, I just got a horrible genetic dice roll on this thing.’ You start to realize that almost even more when you’re older — and it’s like, not that I don’t pig out because I do pig out," Combs said. "I’m not trying to say it’s not my fault, because it is in a lot of ways. But also, I got to this point where I’m like, man, I’d really love to trim down. And it’s so hard for me to do that."

Fox News Poll: Turek, Hinson in close Iowa Senate race

Economic concerns and party loyalty are key factors shaping Iowa’s U.S. Senate matchup.

A Fox News statewide survey of Iowa likely voters finds Democrat Josh Turek with a two-point edge over Republican Ashley Hinson, 49% to 47%, well within the margin of error.

Among registered voters, Turek is ahead by 4 points, 50% to 46%. That also falls within the range of sampling error and has been unchanged since June.

The analysis below is based on likely voter results.

Democrats are more unified behind state representative Turek (96%) than Republicans are of current Congresswoman Hinson (87%). Independents favor Turek by two-to-one, and 10% of Republicans back him. It’s Iowa’s partisan structure that keeps the race tight, as more voters identify as Republicans than Democrats.

FOX NEWS POLL: MICHIGAN VOTERS SPLIT BETWEEN EL-SAYED AND ROGERS

Iowa voters are split on control of the Senate: 49% prefer Democratic control and 48% favor Republican. With those numbers nearly matching the Senate matchup, both candidates are performing close to their party’s ceiling.

Turek is preferred by 11 points among women, 16 points in the suburbs, 17 points among voters with a college degree, and 32 points among independents.

Hinson is up by 7 points among men, 6 points among those without a college degree, 14 points among rural voters, and 41 points among White evangelical Christians.

Economic pressure influences the contest. In the 2024 Fox News Voter Analysis, 3 in 10 Iowans described their families as falling behind financially. That share has risen to 4 in 10 today, and they back Turek by a 38-point margin. Meanwhile, those holding steady (45%) and getting ahead (13%) favor Hinson (by 14 and 53 points respectively).

In addition, 6 in 10 say the cost of living will be extremely important to their Senate vote decision. That outpaces other top issues, like President Donald Trump (43% extremely), immigration (39% extremely), and AI technology (27% extremely).

Turek has the advantage among voters who say the cost of living, Trump, and AI technology are each extremely important to their vote, while voters prioritizing immigration favor Hinson.

Trump won Iowa with nearly 56% of the vote in 2024. Today, that’s how many Iowa voters disapprove of his job performance as president (57%), while far fewer, 42%, approve.

The president’s ratings are only part of Hinson’s challenge. While 42% view her positively, 50% have an unfavorable view, including nearly 4 in 10 who are "strongly" unfavorable. In contrast, Turek’s ratings are net positive: 48% favorable to 40% unfavorable (24% "strongly" unfavorable).

By a 9-point margin, more voters are concerned Hinson is too close to Trump than are worried Turek’s views are too liberal (52% vs. 43%). Among those "extremely" concerned, that gap widens to 14 points: 36% say Hinson is too tied to Trump, while 22% say Turek is too liberal.

More of Turek’s backers are certain of their choice: 88% are committed to him compared to 77% for Hinson. Twice as many Hinson supporters say they might change their mind (20% vs. 10%).

"Recent history and the state’s partisan makeup suggest Hinson can pull this out," says GOP pollster Daron Shaw, who works on the Fox News Poll with Democrat Chris Anderson. "But the warning signs are clear: Iowa Republicans seem ambivalent, independents prefer Turek, and even her supporters say they aren’t sure."

Iowa hasn't elected a Democrat to the Senate in 18 years (when Sen. Tom Harkin won his final term), and it's been 20 years since they elected a Democrat as governor.

In the Iowa governor’s contest, Democrat Rob Sand outperforms Republican Zach Lahn among likely voters by 53-44%. The race has been steady since June.

Sand’s lead comes not only from getting the support of nearly all Democrats (97%), but also 14% of Republicans and 66% of independents (vs. 16% of independents for Lahn). Plus, 11% of voters backing Hinson for Senate switched parties to support Sand for governor.

Conducted September 24-28, 2026, under the joint direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News Poll includes interviews with a sample of 1,204 Iowa registered voters randomly selected from a statewide voter file. Respondents spoke with live interviewers on landlines (183) and cellphones (733) or completed the survey online after receiving a text message (288). Results based on the registered voter sample have a margin of sampling error of ±2.5 percentage points and for the subsample of 1,008 likely voters it is ±3 percentage points. Sampling error for results among subgroups is higher. In addition to sampling error, question wording and order can influence results. Sources for developing weight targets include the most recent American Community Survey, Fox News Voter Analysis, and voter file data. Weights are generally applied to age, race, education, and area variables to ensure the demographics of respondents are representative of the registered voter population. Likely voters are based on a probabilistic statistical model that relies on past vote history, interest in the current election, intention to vote, age, education, race, ethnicity, and marital status. Results among subgroups are only shown when the sample size is at least N=100.

Fox News Poll: It’s a Lone Star Senate showdown between Talarico and Paxton

Weeks before Election Day, Democratic engagement and positive ratings give Democrat James Talarico a razor-thin edge over Republican Ken Paxton in what is, so far, shaping up to be a photo finish for the Lone Star State’s U.S. Senate seat.

This analysis, released Thursday, is among Texas likely voters, unless otherwise noted.

Talarico enjoys a net positive personal rating of 8 points (52% favorable vs. 44% unfavorable), while Paxton’s is underwater by 18 points (40% vs. 58%). Republicans are six times more likely to view Paxton unfavorably (32%) than Democrats do Talarico (5%).

The GOP also has an enthusiasm gap. More MAGA than non-MAGA Republicans are extremely interested in the midterms (64% vs. 50%) and certain they will vote (76% vs. 65%). By contrast, two-thirds of DSA and non-DSA Democrats are extremely interested, and nearly three-quarters of both groups are certain they will vote.

FOX NEWS POLL: MICHIGAN VOTERS SPLIT BETWEEN EL-SAYED AND ROGERS

Overall, Texas likely voters split on control of the Senate: 49% prefer a Democratic Senate while 50% favor a Republican upper chamber. Eight percent of self-identified Republicans prefer the Democrats in power versus 1% of Democrats crossing over to pick the GOP.

All this gives Talarico a slim 2-point edge over Paxton (51-49%) in the first Fox News Poll among Texas likely voters (so no comparisons are available). These matchup results are within the margin of sampling error.

Among the larger sample of registered voters, Talarico’s advantage widens to 7 points (just outside the margin of error). That’s up from a 3-point edge in July.

GOP ambivalence is further reflected in Senate preferences because non-MAGA Republicans are more than five times more likely to back Talarico than their MAGA counterparts (22% to 4%). The crossover echoes lingering divisions from the competitive GOP primary and runoff: 20% of likely voters who backed Republican incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the March primary back Talarico.

FOX NEWS POLL: VOTERS QUESTION WHETHER AI'S PROMISE OUTWEIGHS ITS RISK

Fully 100% of DSA Democrats and 98% of non-DSA Democrats back Talarico, and slightly more of his backers are certain of their support (89%) than Paxton backers (85%).

In addition, Talarico also gets strong backing from Black voters (79%), moderates (65%), Hispanic voters (64%) and voters under age 35 (62%).

Paxton’s best groups are White evangelical Christians (74%), White men without a college degree (65%), rural voters (57%) and voters ages 65 and over (55%).

Both candidates face ideological concerns. Roughly equal numbers are concerned Talarico is too liberal on the issues (53% concerned) and Paxton is too close to President Trump (51%).

In 2024, President Donald Trump won Texas by nearly 14 percentage points. Today, his job rating is underwater by 11 points: 44% approve vs. 55% disapprove. Fifteen percent of those disapproving still back Paxton compared to 9% of Trump approvers backing Talarico.

Economic hardships continue to dominate the narrative. Seven in 10 Texans say the cost of living will be extremely important to their Senate vote, and this is another problem for the Republicans because twice as many voters say they are falling behind financially (35%) as getting ahead (16%). Those falling behind back Talarico by 32 points, while those getting ahead favor Paxton by 48 points. Those holding steady (48%), the largest group, narrowly back Paxton by 3 points.

Nearly half say Trump (48%) and immigration (47%) will be extremely important to their vote, while one-third say the same about artificial intelligence technology (34%).

Talarico holds wide leads among those saying the cost of living (Talarico +19), artificial intelligence (+18) and Trump (+6) will be extremely important to their Senate vote, while immigration-focused voters back Paxton (+20).

In the governor’s race, incumbent Republican Greg Abbott’s positive job ratings give him an edge over Democratic challenger Gina Hinojosa. The three-time incumbent has a 52%-47% advantage over the Texas state House representative.

Over half, 52%, approve of the job Abbott is doing as governor, and that same share backs him in the race. Another 47% disapprove, the same number who back Hinojosa.

Abbott fares better than Paxton because he has slightly higher support among men, Republicans and moderates. Women are more evenly divided in the governor’s race.

Abbott also has a modest crossover advantage: 10% of Talarico supporters back Abbott for governor while just 3% of Paxton supporters do the same for Hinojosa.

"Democrats in Texas will walk across broken glass to vote against Trump, so the question is whether the average Republican will vote in an election without Trump and where the Senate race features a controversial GOP candidate," said Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who conducts Fox News Polls with Democrat Chris Anderson.

"Ironically, Paxton may owe his political life to Abbott, who is doing most of the get-out-the-vote work for the Republicans."

New details released after death of Chad Lowe's teenage daughter

Chad Lowe's 13-year-old daughter, Fiona, died at a Los Angeles hospital, according to new information from the medical examiner.

Fiona died Sept. 29, according to the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner's office. As of Oct. 1, her cause of death had not been publicly disclosed.

"We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona," the family said in a statement provided to Page Six on Tuesday.

"She was a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance," the statement continued. "She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives."

The family concluded its statement by encouraging anyone struggling with mental health issues to contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.

The family celebrated Fiona's 13th birthday in November 2025.

Water pours from plane ceiling, drenching passengers midflight in startling viral video

Wild footage shows water pouring down in streams from the ceiling of an Emirates flight as passengers attempted to cover themselves and keep dry.

The incident took place aboard Emirates flight EK123 from Dubai to Istanbul, Turkey, Sept. 17, Viral Press reported.

The video, taken by a passenger, shows people on board using blankets to shield themselves as water continued pouring from the ceiling during the flight.

Some passengers pulled out their phones to capture the bizarre scene as water dripped down into the cabin.

One passenger, Hsin Ying Chang of Taiwan, said water began soaking her "like a waterfall," Viral Press reported.

Emirates Airlines released a media statement regarding the incident.

"Emirates can confirm that an accumulation of condensation resulted in water being observed in a part of the cabin shortly after take-off on flight EK123 from Dubai to Istanbul on 17 September 2026," the company said.

"Cabin crew responded in accordance with established procedures and relocated affected customers whose seats had become wet.

Despite a later explanation, the dripping water remained a mystery during the flight.

Hsin Ying Chang claimed "the cabin crew offered no explanation or apology," according to Viral Press.

Hsin also claimed there was no TV or other equipment where she was moved, leaving her with little to do but "sit facing the wall."

"I had always heard that Emirates was one of the most luxurious airlines in the world, but this experience completely changed my view," she reportedly said.

It is unclear exactly when the leak began.

The flight lasted just over four hours, records show, departing Dubai at 11:14 a.m. and landing at Istanbul Airport at 2:16 p.m. local time.

Water dripping from ceiling panels can be caused by excess condensation from an aircraft's air-conditioning system, though officials have not confirmed that was the cause of the Sept. 17 incident.

It isn't the only time a water-related issue aboard a flight has made headlines.

In 2024, "disgusting" water flooded the aisle of an American Airlines flight from Dallas to Minneapolis after leaking from a lavatory.

Larry Fitzgerald Q&A: NFL icon talks breast cancer awareness for his late mother, friendship with John McCain

Former Arizona Cardinals star Larry Fitzgerald has turned the personal pain of losing his mother to breast cancer into a mission to help families confronting the disease.

Fitzgerald’s mother, Carol, died from breast cancer in 2003. His foundation has since partnered with DraftKings on its annual Pink ’Em campaign, which has raised more than $700,000 for breast cancer awareness, research and patient support since launching in 2019.

Fitzgerald spoke with OutKick about the campaign, the influence of his mother, his friendship with the late Sen. John McCain, the relationships that defined his 17 seasons with the Cardinals and the current NFL season.

Questions and answers have been shortened for brevity and focus.

Q: Your foundation’s partnership with DraftKings through the Pink ’Em campaign has raised more than $700,000 for breast cancer awareness. What does that mean to you personally?

Larry Fitzgerald: Well, it means a lot that you can raise this type of awareness together in a partnership.

And I think that’s what makes partnerships so special, especially when you have one as longstanding as this. Every single year, obviously, we’re raising money for a wonderful cause, but also getting people on our platform to play in our Pink ’Em campaign. And it’s a win-win for everybody. We get to raise awareness, and it’s a beautiful thing.

Q: When did you first become passionate about this cause?

Fitzgerald: In 2003, I lost my mother to breast cancer. And so this has been something that’s near and dear to my heart. I have a couple other family members who’ve battled it. People in my organization at our foundation have done it as well.

And so it’s something that I live with, I think about, I hear about often in terms of treatments and cutting-edge results that are happening from some of the life sciences that are occurring now. And so this is something, I live this every single day.

Q: When you think back on your mother, what do you think she would think of where your career has gone and how you’ve created this foundation and championed this cause?

Fitzgerald: My mom was in the nonprofit space. So I know that it would be something that she would be happy about.

As a child, I was always going to events that she was either a part of, or she was a part of organizations that supported them. So it was always a part of the fabric of who we were as a family. My hope is that she would be proud of the work that we’re continuing to do. And I think she would want me to continue to stay motivated, to not take my foot off the gas and keep my focus on serving.

Q: What’s the biggest thing your mother taught you while you were growing up that you’ve carried throughout your life?

Fitzgerald: Well, just to be thoughtful and compassionate. There’s a lot of people out there that are in need. And sometimes somebody needs just a helping hand, a hello, a thank you, "How are you doing?" Just to be seen and thought about. Those things are really important.

They were important to her. And I always saw that she would always do that. And it’s something that I tried to implement when I was a youngster and still to this day.

Q: How do you think that helped shape you during your football career?

Fitzgerald: It’s something that I think is a part of you no matter what you do.

It doesn’t matter if it’s in my current occupation or my former occupation. Being thoughtful, caring, really enjoying cultivating relationships and developing relationships is something that is important in anything that you do in life. It doesn’t matter if you’re on TV, if you’re a garbage man, if you’re a doctor. Having that human connectivity is important.

Q: One of the friendships you made during your career that really stood out was with the late John McCain.

Fitzgerald: Yeah, I mean, Senator McCain was a wonderful man and influence in my life. He’s one of the people that I credit with helping me mature and seeing the world in a different light.

Traveling to Vietnam and doing a lot of his events with him opened my eyes and my world up to things I never would have thought I’d been exposed to. And so, really, really thankful and appreciative of the relationship that I’ve had with him and so many others.

It doesn’t have to be one of the greatest U.S. senators and patriots that we’ve had in our country. It could be anybody that you meet in an elevator. That’s what I really enjoy about fostering relationships.

Q: How did he help you change your worldview?

Fitzgerald: Well, I mean, he just opened his world to me, showed me different things, gave me tours of the Senate, let me sit in hearings and confirmation hearings and things that I would have never experienced without him allowing me to be a part of it.

And so I think that’s huge. It says a lot about who he is to take somebody in that didn’t necessarily have a view into that type of life.

Q: Did you agree with Senator McCain politically?

Fitzgerald: I don’t know if I would say I agree with everything Senator McCain — I don’t know if I agree with everything that any senator or politician believes in. I kind of have my own political views that I keep to myself. But I can attest to the quality of man that he was and the contributions that he made to our country.

Q: What does it say about the connection you had that, even if you disagreed on some political views, you were still open to letting him help shape your worldview?

Fitzgerald: Well, I think that’s something I talked about when he gave me one of the best honors of my life, to be able to speak at his funeral, is that he embraced the differences.

And it would be really nice to be able to see that thoughtfulness in the way that our country is governed like it was when he was around. And so I’m very thankful that he poured into me and poured into so many of his other constituents.

Q: Nowadays, there are a lot of people who don’t agree politically, including athletes and politicians. What do you think people could learn from your friendship with John McCain?

Fitzgerald: I don’t know if I would say I did not agree with him politically. I did say I didn’t agree with everything politically. I really enjoyed my relationship with him.

It would be nice to be able to see people have civil discourse without heartburn or hard feelings for somebody who doesn’t necessarily see eye to eye with them on something.

So I think that’s something that we can all learn. I still look back at when he was running for president and somebody at one of his political rallies said something that wasn’t true about President Obama. And then he quickly debunked it. And that was a very powerful message, like, "Hey, he’s an opponent, an opponent that I really want to beat, but I’m not going to allow you to say things that are not true." And I think that was something that I really admired about him.

Q: Do you see yourself cultivating any friendships with politicians nowadays?

Fitzgerald: Yeah, I’m friendly with a lot of people. Friendly with people that are politicians. I’m friendly with people that are doctors.

I’m friendly with people that are lawyers. I’m friendly with most people.

Q: Another thing about you that fascinated a lot of people throughout your career is how loyal you stayed to the Arizona Cardinals. Looking back on it, what grounded you there and kept you in Arizona?

Fitzgerald: Well, I’ve always been one of those people who likes to finish what they started.

They brought me there to do a job, and I wanted to make sure I did the job that I was brought there to do. And a lot of times there’s other opportunities that might be more attractive, but I really like to kind of do the things that I want to do in the places that I’m at. And the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Q: Were you ever tempted to consider an offer from another team?

Fitzgerald: Not seriously.

No, not seriously. No.

Q: What was your best moment with the Cardinals?

Fitzgerald: I mean, to take one moment from 17 years, I would say probably playing in a Super Bowl. But that’s not what I think about the most.

I look back in those times, I think about the relationships with the coaches, support staff, my teammates, management, ownership. Those are the things that I think I take the most joy from. It’s just the wonderful people I was able to work with.

Q: Who are some of the people specifically from the Cardinals whom you remember most fondly?

Fitzgerald: Mark Dalton, Lisa Manning, Steve Ryan. Obviously, Michael Bidwill was — he gave me my job, he drafted me.

Rod Graves, Dennis Green, Bruce Arians, Ken Whisenhunt and so many teammates as well. I mean, I could be here all day naming people who influenced my life in a positive way.

Q: Bruce Arians is famous for having a personality that is a little different from other coaches, at least in terms of what fans and the media could see. In your experience, was he unique compared to the other coaches you played for?

Fitzgerald: I wouldn’t say he was too much different than any other coaches.

He never bit his tongue. He told you what he thought. I think that was really cool, to be able to have somebody that was so transparent. You never had to worry about or wonder what he was thinking. And that made it a lot easier to play for him.

When you know exactly what the expectations are going to be every day. But all the coaches are different, and they’re effective in their own right.

Q: What was your favorite memory with Coach Arians that people may not know about?

Fitzgerald: I would say just seeing his heart. Him and his wife, Chris, were really big on adoption and foster parents. And I had no idea how many thousands of kids are in the foster care system in Arizona.

And the work that he would do through his foundation would do a really good job of pairing foster parents with foster children, trying to give stability to so many of our young people that are in need.

And so, seeing that human, compassionate side of him was something that really resonated with me.

Q: Do you think he could make a coaching comeback today?

Fitzgerald: I think so. If that was something he wanted to do and his wife allowed him to do it, I think he would be really good. I mean, he’s one of the best play-callers I’ve ever been around.

He has a way to really connect with his players. And also, I think he really does a good job with quarterbacks. You look at what he did with Ben Roethlisberger, what he did with Andrew Luck, what he did with Carson Palmer and everywhere that he’s gone. Tom Brady won a championship down there in Tampa. He’s done a hell of a job every single stop he’s made.

Q: The Cardinals have a big game this week against the Giants. Both teams are dealing with veteran backups. As someone who has played with a lot of veteran quarterbacks, sometimes backup quarterbacks, what do you expect from this game and the two teams moving forward as they navigate their quarterback situations?

Fitzgerald: Yeah, the Giants have unfortunately got kind of bit with a rash of injuries.

They lost Brian Burns, their best edge rusher, and then losing Jaxson Dart to a season injury. It’s a tough thing to deal with, but injuries are part of the game. I think the Cardinals are a much healthier, fresher team. They played their last two opponents in the Seahawks and the 49ers, who I think are both playoff teams, really, really hard. And so, I like their chances to be able to get a win this week in the Meadowlands.

Q: Do you stay in touch with any of the players and coaches currently on the Cardinals? Do you ever give them advice or coaching?

Fitzgerald: No, not advice. I’m not one to give unsolicited advice, but still have great relationships with a few of the players. I played with guys like Budda Baker, and so I have a really good relationship with guys on the squad still.

Q: Who are your top five wide receivers in the NFL this year?

Fitzgerald: It’s hard. I haven’t had a chance to watch every single team play. But they got some terrific play in the game right now.

And even guys who you thought their skill set started to diminish, you watch guys like Davante Adams still had an amazing game last week against the Broncos, eight catches, 140 yards receiving.

So, I mean, any given week, somebody can rise to the occasion and be special.

Q: What about quarterbacks?

Fitzgerald: Again, that’s tough, man. Obviously, Josh Allen’s coming off an MVP season and Patrick Mahomes coming off a knee injury and still looking just as good as he’s ever looked.

And the throw that Lamar Jackson made last week to put his team in position against the Cowboys to get that game-winning field goal was great.

You got to throw — let me think who else you put in that conversation. Joe Burrow’s looked really good statistically. He’s been throwing around and making a lot of plays. Bo Nix is playing good ball. So, I mean, there’s a lot of good players out there.

Q: Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart looked very good in Week 1 before going down. What should fans expect from him when he returns from injury?

Fitzgerald: Yeah, I mean, he’s really showed a lot of promise.

I really like the way he leads. I enjoyed watching him at Ole Miss when he was down there. And then every single year, it looks like he’s just taking more steps in the right direction. So it sucks to see him go down the way he did and affect his team the way that that’s going to affect him. But I think he’s got a really, really bright future.

And I think anybody who’s a Giants fan or football fan in general should be excited about it.

Q: As a star wide receiver who played with many different quarterbacks, what kind of impact will Malik Nabers have to make for the Giants to have a good season?

Fitzgerald: Well, Malik is coming off an injury himself, and so it’s really cool to be able to see him take that ownership and leadership position. He’s the best player on that offense now, and I think he can still go out there and win regardless.

Jameis Winston is a veteran guy. He’s been in the league a really long time. And so, will there be a drop-off? Possibly. But I don’t think it will be one that would hurt him in a negative way.

Q: Jaxson Dart introduced President Donald Trump during the offseason, which received a range of reactions. As someone who had a friendship with a politician, what was your reaction when you saw that?

Fitzgerald: Yeah, I don’t know what his relationship was or is with President Trump.

And I don’t know how that came about. But he made a decision that he felt was best for himself. And that’s what we all do as human beings. We make decisions based on the information that we have. And he did that.

Q: Would you ever consider introducing a president or a politician running for office? You had a friendship with John McCain, but do you think introducing someone at a rally is different?

Fitzgerald: I’ve never had that asked before. So if it ever does happen, I’d have to take it all into consideration before I make my decision.

College football ratings are down double digits so far this season

Overall viewership for the 2026 college football season is down 11% compared to the first four weeks of 2025. FBS broadcasts have averaged 1.7 million viewers this season, according to Nielsen data.

By comparison, NFL ratings are essentially flat through three weeks. Some networks are up slightly, while others are down slightly. The league's decision to open on a Wednesday instead of a Thursday this season has also weighed on the overall average.

So this isn't because of declining interest in football this season.

The reason for the decline in college football is less obvious than when sports viewership typically falls. Ratings drops are often tied to weaker matchups, political controversy, increased television competition, changes in measurement or shifts in network distribution.

None of those explanations clearly apply to college football this season.

Each of the first four weeks featured at least one marquee matchup: LSU vs. Clemson in Week 1, Ohio State vs. Texas in Week 2, LSU vs. Ole Miss in Week 3, and Texas vs. Tennessee in Week 4.

Here are the 10 most-watched games of the 2026 season so far:

Ohio State–Texas: 14 million (ABC)
LSU–Ole Miss: 10.9 million (ABC)
Texas–Tennessee: 9.7 million (ABC)
Ole Miss–Florida: 8.3 million (ABC)
Oklahoma–Michigan: 8.2 million (Fox)
Wisconsin–Notre Dame: 8.1 million (NBC)
Alabama–Kentucky: 7.3 million (ABC)
Florida State–Alabama: 7.0 million (ABC)
Clemson–LSU: 5.8 million (ABC)
Texas A&M–LSU: 5.7 million (ABC)

The number for Ohio State vs. Texas is particularly notable. The same matchup drew 16.6 million viewers a year ago.

Several factors may have contributed to the decline. Last season, the teams met in Week 1, when anticipation was arguably higher. There was also greater hype surrounding Arch Manning, and Ohio State entered the game as the defending national champion.

Just as important, last year's game kicked off at noon ET. This year's matchup didn't begin until 7:49 p.m. ET on ABC.

Late kickoff times have become a trend this season. Because of multiple weather delays in Baton Rouge, ABC's Week 1 matchup between LSU and Clemson didn't begin until 9:40 p.m. ET. The delay almost certainly hurt the audience, with the game drawing fewer than 6 million viewers despite Lane Kiffin making his head coaching debut at LSU.

Another possible factor is the expanded College Football Playoff. The 12-team format has reduced the consequences of early-season losses. Ohio State's defeat to Texas, for example, is unlikely to significantly damage its postseason chances. At 3-1, the Buckeyes are ranked No. 5 in the nation, ahead of several undefeated teams, including Indiana, Alabama and Florida.

Longtime college football fans may also point to broader changes that have altered the sport's appeal, including conference realignment and the NIL era, which some believe has diminished the traditional connection between fans and players.

Those factors are worth considering, though it's difficult to determine how much they have actually affected television viewership.

Whatever the explanation, expanding the playoff to 24 teams would hardly address the issues. If the double-digit decline persists, television executives and conference officials ought to take a closer look at why.

The biggest matchup this weekend features No. 4 Ohio State against No. 14 Iowa on CBS at 3:30 p.m. ET. Ratings will also face stiffer competition as the MLB postseason continues.

LOS ANGELES — Veteran funnyman Conan O'Brien spoke in blunt terms about what he's observed in the late-night television landscape Wednesday, comparing its decline to Detroit.

Speaking at Bloomberg Screentime 2026, O'Brien was asked by Bloomberg's Ashley Carman whether he believed late-night TV "made sense economically," prompting him to look back at the evolution of late-night from its origins.

The former NBC host first pointed to how networks in the late 1940s would go off the air at 10:30 and just have the American flag and music playing overnight, until his ex-employer was the first to fill the empty airtime with more television.

"And my analogy has always been, you own a nice house, kind of like 'It's a Wonderful Life' house, you fix it up, the kids live there, it's the nice old drafty Victorian, and then you realize, hey, there's an attic," O'Brien said. "What you do is you go up there, and you just put down some basic flooring and put some beds in there, and suddenly you have all this room you didn't know you had."

He said late-night TV quickly became "a giant machine that fires out cash" and remained so when he began hosting "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" in 1993.

"And then I saw over my 17 years with NBC ... I started to see, oh, this is really changing. This is really changing," O'Brien said. "They're asking us to be much more cost-conscious. And it was for a good reason, which is that HBO, Cinemax, these are the things [that] are coming up. There's more networks — instead of one late-night show, 'The Tonight Show,' there's now 'Tonight Show' and there's David Letterman's show, then there are other shows."

"It's a little like Detroit and automobiles. Like, the things just started to change, and you can get really upset about it," he continued. "But then streamers come along. Now you're competing with how many people in America are posting videos every day, or worldwide. Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of millions of people are making funny videos."

The WNBA’s favorite narrative — that players are perpetual victims — just reached peak delusion thanks to Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud.

Following Tuesday’s baseline dust-up after a foul on Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson confronted a fan, leading Cloud to take to Threads and smear both the Indiana Fever organization and the spectator.

Cloud demanded the Fever publicly condemn the fan, despite arena security clearing him of any wrongdoing. League guidelines explicitly prohibit players from stepping off the court or entering spectator space to confront fans.

Then came the wild leap.

And then she crossed into reckless slander:

"Even worse.... if he's willing to do that s——t in public to a woman he doesn't know....how do you think he acts in his home?"

The Sky guard closed her rant by framing players as victims: "No it's not our job to continue to fix the problems. Our job is to hoop & to be safe doing it."

A veteran WNBA player publicly implied a fan is a domestic abuser because he pointed a finger after a whistle: pure character assassination. Without a shred of evidence, Cloud casually weaponized domestic violence allegations against a fan who was simply cheering for his home team.

This isn't Cloud's first time acting as a courtside moral crusader, either. Just last month, she instigated a baseline scene with former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom in Chicago, marching over to confront him at his seat.

In today's WNBA environment, facts are secondary to maintaining the preferred narrative.

Except the actual facts tell a completely different story.

Security guards interviewed witnesses, reviewed footage, and officially confirmed that the spectator committed zero violations of the Fan Code of Conduct. He was cleared on the spot and remained in his seat for the rest of Indiana’s playoff win.

Yet for Cloud, official clearance means nothing. The assumption of guilt is permanent because it fits the narrative: Fever fans are bad, players are infallible and standing up to point is dangerous.

Judge permanently dismisses Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool vandalism case against former Olympian

A judge on Thursday permanently dismissed the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool vandalism case against former Olympian David Hearn, who was accused of damaging the costly $14 million renovation project in June.

D.C. Superior Court Judge Todd Edelman’s ruling marks the end of a monthslong legal battle that included President Donald Trump criticizing U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro after she moved to voluntarily dismiss the federal charges in late July.

Unlike Pirro’s decision, Thursday’s ruling was made with prejudice, meaning the Department of Justice (DOJ) cannot refile the same charges against Hearn.

Edelman rejected prosecutors’ request to preserve the possibility of recharging Hearn if new evidence surfaced, finding that existing investigative findings were sufficient to show the damage stemmed from a flawed renovation job.

"In the exceptional circumstances posed by this case, the government has no right to retain the ability to compound the errors it has already made, or even to threaten to do so, at Mr. Hearn’s expense," Edelman said. "This case must be dismissed with prejudice, and the government must thus be barred from reinstituting this charge against Mr. Hearn."

Hearn’s counsel described the decision as a victory for "an innocent American seeking justice."

"This case never should have been brought in the first place. This was a miscarriage of justice, and what happened to Mr. Hearn is an outrage that should shock every American," Hearn’s counsel said in a statement.

"This administration chose to pursue an unjust prosecution against Mr. Hearn. It should not get repeated chances to wield the power of criminal prosecution against someone who should never have been prosecuted."

WHITE HOUSE ASKS DOJ TO CONSIDER NEW PROSECUTION IN REFLECTING POOL CASE

Hearn was arrested June 19 and later indicted on one felony count of destruction of property for allegedly damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool’s lining.

Prosecutors alleged that Hearn was seen grabbing and tugging on a loose section of the pool’s coating, reportedly causing about $1,000 in damage. Officials added that he continued to do so even after National Park Service employees urged him to stop.

Trump has strictly maintained that the pool was vandalized, criticizing Pirro’s decision to drop the case as "hastily made."

"Anybody who thinks the Reflecting Pool wasn’t vandalized should go back to Law School!" Trump previously said in a post on Truth Social.

"People were on their knees with their hands in the water at the exact location of the ‘slashes.’ Additionally, there were witnesses to the VANDALISM, and the flexible areas of the material were cut with a knife."

The DOJ moved to dismiss the indictment after evidence from the Department of the Interior revealed that the damage was caused by a "rushed and botched" installation by contractor Atlantic Industrial Coatings ahead of the America 250 celebrations, court filings said.

According to the documents, Hearn touched peeling perimeter "overspray" material that was already peeling and had minimal economic value.

Hearn subsequently requested that the case be dismissed with prejudice, permanently barring the government from refiling the charges.

Amish face New York vaccine mandate in Supreme Court fight, might have to ‘pack their wagons’

New York’s elimination of religious exemptions for school vaccine mandates is threatening to drive Amish families from the state, according to First Liberty Institute attorney Hiram Sasser, who is urging the Supreme Court to intervene in the ongoing legal battle.

For decades, New York allowed religious exemptions for schoolchildren. But the state repealed that exemption in 2019, leaving Amish families and their small private schools facing vaccination requirements and potentially crippling fines.

The 2nd Circuit upheld the law in June, and the Amish have since asked the Supreme Court to take up the case.

"For decades, New York had a religious exemption for their vaccine mandate that they had on the books, and it protected the Amish who've been there for over 200 years," Sasser told Fox News Digital Wednesday.

"And it's just such a shame that New York is one of the only states in America that decided that they wanted to get rid of their vaccine religious exemption and to try to impose it on everybody, including private schools and, unfortunately, hitting the Amish who have their own ‘Little House on the Prairie’-style schools that they have on their farms," Sasser said.

"And, for whatever reason, New York decided that they were going to start enforcing this requirement on the Amish who, frankly, just don't participate in these kinds of things. And instead of just leaving the Amish alone, New York decided to enforce it."

Sasser said the state has put "crushing fines" on the Amish, which are endangering their farms and even the ability to stay in New York.

"We're representing the Amish, and I got to tell you, when they filed their declaration with the court, it was, it's handwritten because that's how they do it, and they work as a community together. … They want to be really good citizens. "They want to live quiet, humble lives, be good neighbors, but New York is putting them to a religious test that we should never put the Amish to."

Sasser said the dispute is about more than vaccines and could determine whether the Amish can continue living out their faith and traditional way of life in New York.

"These are the Amish schools like ‘Little House on the Prairie,’ if you've ever seen that show. "I have no idea why the state of New York wants to go in there and shut them down," Sasser continued. "Frankly, the Amish would just like to be left alone, but they still really want to be positive members of the community. They want to serve their neighbors, they want to be good citizens, and New York just won't seem to let them do that unless they violate their religious beliefs."

First Liberty said it is awaiting a response from the other side, then a decision from the Supreme Court.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, the New York Department of Health said, "The state’s responsibility is to protect public health, keep New Yorkers and their families safe and enforce the law fairly and equitably. While we cannot comment on pending litigation, the department is committed to eliminating serious illness and unnecessary deaths caused by vaccine-preventable diseases.

"The department continues to provide community outreach and education on the safety of immunizations. New York’s school immunization requirements are based in science and protect the health and well-being of all New Yorkers."

The 9th annual edition of the ultra marathon in Denver gets underway this weekend, and it will see runners traversing just over 30 miles, while making pit stops at a minimum of nine of the ten Taco Bell locations along the route where they must order a menu item and finish it.

And better yet, it's not sanctioned by the company. They're just out there for the love of the game.

Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman hesitated while naming her favorite Los Angeles rappers during a Tuesday podcast interview, drawing laughter and teasing from the hosts weeks before voters decide whether she or incumbent Mayor Karen Bass will lead the nation's second-largest city.

Appearing on the "Higher Learning" podcast, Raman was asked to list her three favorite L.A. rappers. She first named the late Nipsey Hussle and co-host Van Lathan immediately ribbed the city councilmember over her answer.

"Wow. Look at you, media trained," Lathan said.

Raman, 45, then said she still listened to "‘90s rap," but paused as she tried to continue her list. As the hosts laughed, Lathan told her, "And okay, as you search for the names, keep going."

"I’m just shy," Raman said.

Raman eventually added Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur. Lathan summed up her list as "Nip, Pac, Snoop," while Raman explained that the music was what she listened to alone in her car and described it as "the songs of my youth."

Lisa Cusack, President of the Don't L.A. My Burbank PAC, told Fox News Digital she believed the exchange undercut Raman’s efforts to portray herself as closely connected to Los Angeles culture.

"Interesting that Raman called illegal street vendors an ‘indispensable part’ of L.A.'s culture, but can’t name some of the city’s most famous rappers. Feels like someone’s giving her a script, because she’s not from L.A. and doesn’t actually know what the city’s about," Cusack said.

Raman was born in India and came to the United States at age six. She later settled in Los Angeles and lives in Silver Lake, according to The Los Angeles Times. She was elected to the Los Angeles City Council in 2020 and currently represents the city's 4th district, including neighborhoods such as Hollywood, Sherman Oaks and Van Nuys.

Los Angeles County Republican Party Chairwoman Roxanne Hoge used the exchange to criticize Raman over the city’s business climate.

"I'd rather Raman be able to name her top three thriving L.A. businesses," Hoge said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "She can't."

The podcast appearance came as Raman and Bass compete in the Nov. 3 runoff after Raman advanced from the June primary. Raman narrowly secured the second runoff spot behind Bass after passing Republican candidate and TV personality Spencer Pratt during the extended vote count, after Pratt led Raman on election night.

Raman has increasingly centered her campaign on dissatisfaction with City Hall's handling of homelessness, basic city services and the entertainment industry.

"I came into this race because I feel passionately about the future of Los Angeles and I feel frustration about the current state of the city. And I think that a third of voters is out there feeling those same things," Raman said.

Recently, Raman was pressed during a mayoral debate over her campaign’s decision to hire a consulting firm that previously worked with former Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner. A recent UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll found Raman leading Bass 39% to 28% among likely Los Angeles voters, while 33% remained undecided. The online survey of 2,150 likely voters was conducted Sept. 15-20 and had a margin of error of approximately 3 percentage points.

Video shows Maine Wire reporter nearly being run over by car after confrontation

Maine Wire reporter Joe Sokol appeared to narrowly avoid being run over by an unruly critic in footage captured by the publication on Thursday.

In the video, Sokol was seen talking to a man prior to the incident, with the latter criticizing the reporter for filming outside the Bangor Comprehensive Treatment Center.

"You're invading people's privacy here. Confidentiality, you realize that?" the driver said.

"I'm invading people's privacy? By being in public with a camera? And doing a report?" Sokol responded.

The driver then proceeded to drive away as Sokol continued his report, describing the man as "possibly intoxicated." As he was speaking, Sokol suddenly backed away, apparently avoiding a near collision with what appeared to be the same man's vehicle. Sokol could then be heard reciting the suspect's license plate numbers through the knocked-down camera as the car kept driving.

The Maine Wire also showed additional footage which featured security footage of how close the vehicle approached Sokol, as well as Sokol approaching the center's owner, suggesting the suspect was connected.

"Your patient just tried to run me over," Sokol accused in the footage.

The female owner, however, accused Sokol of attempting to intimidate her and demanded he leave the property.

In a comment to Fox News Digital, Sokol confirmed that he was investigating an addiction clinic and that police were notified and on the scene. Though the suspect was identified, Sokol was not yet sure if he was apprehended. He added that this was far from the first time he faced an attempt on his life.

"I currently have an active death-threat investigation that has sat on the district attorney’s desk for more than a month," Sokol said. "I have been assaulted multiple times; one of those incidents resulted in a charge, which the state dropped last week. Violence and aggression toward Maine Wire reporters is never addressed in Bangor. About three weeks ago, my cameraman, Adam Stade, was nearly attacked by several homeless people in the city. One councilor’s wife — Michael Beck’s — actually asked the police to intervene regarding our coverage (attached). Most of the city council refuses to comment on the subject generally."

The conservative-leaning Maine Wire also released a statement honoring Sokol reacting well under pressure and providing additional detail regarding Sokol's investigation.

We will continue to investigate this organization, its enablers, and the employees who appeared to be accessories after the fact rather than Good Samaritans," the statement read.

Thank you for your attention to this matter."

Lindsay Clancy's motion for a finding of not guilty denied weeks after mistrial

Massachusetts Judge William Sullivan has denied Lindsay Clancy's motion for a required finding of not guilty.

Sullivan had denied a similar motion when her mistrial was declared on Sept. 4, and denied a renewed attempt Thursday after defense attorney Kevin Reddington argued earlier this week that Plymouth County prosecutors had failed to introduce enough evidence at trial to prove his client guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

"There was evidence introduced, both physical and circumstantial, that would permit a rational trier of fact to find beyond a reasonable doubt the elements of the charge of murder," Sullivan wrote.

He also disagreed with Reddington's argument that the state had failed to prove Clancy could have been criminally responsible for the murders.

Wynonna Judd is finally telling her story – even the parts that may be painful for her family to hear.

The country star revealed she and sister Ashley Judd aren’t speaking right now, explaining that the two are not "connected" at the moment and focusing on their separate lives.

"We’re taking a break, which all families can relate to," she told People. "She’s doing her thing, and I’m doing mine."

The revelation comes as Wynonna prepares to release her deeply personal new album Oct. 2, a project that prompted her to confront the complicated relationship she shared with her late mother, Naomi Judd, long-held family secrets and the anger and forgiveness she has wrestled with over the years.

"I feel like this is the most honest and vulnerable I’ve ever been," she told the outlet about writing "The Hard Truth." "It’s there for everyone to hear. So there are some days I think, ‘Oh my God, what have I done?’ And then other days I think, ‘There comes a point in your life when you are ready to tell your testimony.’"

Wynonna co-wrote the album alongside her husband, Cactus Moser. The music producer encouraged her to be vulnerable.

"I knew it was going to be cathartic," he told the outlet.

Wynonna gained fame as one-half of the mother-daughter duo The Judds, whose close harmonies and roots-driven sound helped define country music in the 1980s. Between 1984 and 1991, they scored 20 Top 10 country hits, including 14 No. 1 singles, and won five Grammy Awards, nine CMA Awards and seven ACM Awards.

But behind The Judds’ remarkable success was a mother-daughter relationship Wynonna described as filled with both deep love and turmoil.

"There was a tremendous amount of love there; a lot of drama but a lot of love as well. It was definitely a paradox," she said.

Part of that complicated dynamic, Wynonna said, stemmed from the struggles her mother faced behind the scenes – and the secrets she felt compelled to keep. Naomi struggled with severe depression for years before her death by suicide in April 2022 at age 76.

"My mother had an illness, she had a disease. I kept the secret, and I was devastated by that," Wynonna explained.

Wynonna said Naomi’s death wasn’t what gave her the freedom to make such a personal album, insisting she would have told her story even if her mother were still alive.

Still, Wynonna acknowledged that hearing those feelings laid bare would likely have been difficult for her mother.

"I think it would be very painful for her. Very painful. But I also know that she knows me, that I’m so honest and so up-front."

Christa Pike's attorneys say she's in critical condition after botched lethal injections

Convicted Tennessee killer Christa Pike is hospitalized in critical condition a day after two botched lethal injection attempts in the 1995 murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer, Pike's attorneys said Thursday.

"Christa is alive right now," Randy Spivey, one of her lawyers, told reporters in a news briefing delivered over Zoom Thursday afternoon. "We don't have a sense of her prognosis or much update on her health at the moment."

Due to limited information and health privacy rules, he said he couldn't go into specific details.

"She is in critical condition receiving lifesaving care. That is the extent that we have at the moment," he said.

Another of her attorneys, Stephen Ferrell, said it appears the needle "either became dislodged or pierced all the way through the veins," and the injection was not properly administered. But specific medical details were not available due to health privacy rules.

Pike, now 50, was the 18-year-old orchestrator of the torture and murder of Slemmer, a classmate and perceived romantic rival. Pike was supposed to be the first woman executed in Tennessee in over 200 years Wednesday evening after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned an emergency stay of execution.

She received two injections at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville. Neither proved lethal.

"I'm haunted by last night," Spivey told reporters in a news briefing delivered over Zoom.

Pike remained awake and at one point raised her head, asking prison officials whether her arm was supposed to feel a certain way. Witnesses reported that Pike continued breathing even after the second dose had been administered.

Prior to Wednesday's failed execution, Pike had asked for alternate methods of capital punishment, fearing that the lethal injection could go wrong. Her requests were denied.

Without getting into specifics due to privacy rules, Pike's attorneys did not dispute that the Tennessee Department of Correction upheld her request for an all-female execution team.

Slemmer's mother also drove from Florida to Nashville to witness the botched procedure. She has not responded to Fox News Digital's attempts to reach her.

"I cannot imagine what this was like for the family of Ms. Slemmer or anyone who loves that family or is close to that family or anyone who loves Christa or is close to Christa," Spivey said. "This is awful, and this kind of thing should never happen again."

Pike was one of three teens convicted of Slemmer's brutal slaying during which the victim was tortured, slashed, beaten and had her head crushed with a chunk of asphalt.

Pike was 18 in January 1995 at the time of the attack. She, boyfriend Tadaryl Shipp and a friend named Shadolla Peterson lured Slemmer out by claiming they wanted to go to a music store and pick up marijuana they'd hidden in a park near their vocational school.

Pike then attacked her. As Slemmer tried to escape, Shipp grabbed her and held her down, according to court records.

Phil Keith, who was Knoxville's police chief at the time, told Fox News Digital the assailants tortured Slemmer for up to an hour before she died. Pike took a piece of her shattered skull as a trophy, which she showed off the next day in school, and Shipp carved pentagrams into her chest and face.

"Pike was the catalyst," Keith said. "She was the one that was planning out all the events, the luring, all that."

The failed execution prompted Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee to halt the state’s remaining scheduled execution this year and order "a comprehensive, third-party review to determine exactly what occurred."

NASCAR driver brings out the red flag

Look at that. Sixty-one straight days of football. Our next day without a game? Dec. 1. That's gonna be a rough week, by the way, because I'm fairly certain Major League Baseball's inevitable lockout will begin the next day.

And we won't even have football to save us then!

But that's a December problem. Not an Oct. 1 problem. We're in the thick of it, starting today. Halloween. Thanksgiving. Cooler weather (allegedly). The best.

And hey! We even get the final month of the NASCAR season. Can't beat it.

Speaking of ... let's go ahead and start today's class with Truck Series driver Jennifer Jo Cobb getting clapped with a $850,000 bill after a court sided with the now ex-wife of the man she "willfully, intentionally, and deliberately seduced, enticed and alienated the affections" of back in 2021.

The man? Longtime NASCAR spotter, Clayton Hughes.

What a twist:

So, here's the scoop ...

Tracey Hughes, the ex-wife of longtime NASCAR spotter Clayton Hughes, filed a lawsuit against Jo Cobb in 2024, accusing her of having an affair with her husband months before their divorce in 2021.

Hughes accused Cobb of alienation of affection, which is basically a civil tort that allows individuals to sue another for intentionally spurring the end of a marriage.

Who knew such a thing existed!

Here's the kicker: Only five states allow people to sue for alienation of affection, including North Carolina, Mississippi, South Dakota, Utah and Hawaii.

Cobb has 31 NASCAR O'Reilly Series starts over a 15-year career, and a whopping 234 Truck Series starts. She finished sixth at Daytona in 2011.

Hughes also filed a second claim, saying her husband "dishonored" the couple’s "marital bed," which seems like a fair conclusion to make. North Carolina's 'Homewrecker Law,' as it's been aptly dubbed, was triggered, and last week a Davidson County judge ordered Jo Cobb to pay $50,000 for alienation of affection, and $800,000 for criminal conversation.

For those who aren't up-to-date on their legal terms, criminal conversion a civil lawsuit that allows a spouse to sue a third party for having sex with their partner while the marriage is still intact.

Most expensive sex ever, if you ask me! Allegedly, of course.

The Red Sox are a joke

OK, let's leave the courtroom and head to the Bronx, where my Red Sox got their brains beaten in last night by the New York Yankees, and then started a full-on revolt in the clubhouse after the game:

My goodness. Willson Contreras refusing to say why the team stunk the past month and then refusing to comment on Sonny Gray getting yanked with two outs in the fifth tells you everything you need to know.

Contreras also blasted the organization's obsession with analytics, which, I'd imagine, played a role in Chad Tracy pulling Gray with two outs in a 1-0 game.

Look, I grew up in the golden age of Red Sox baseball. I saw four World Series championships. I know what this organization is supposed to look like ...

This ain't it. This whole "analytics" revolution in Major League Baseball is so anti-baseball, it makes my head explode. It's certainly anti-October baseball, where a manager needs to have a real feel for his players.

Chad Tracy stunk this series. He was horrible. He was a deer in headlights.

This was his first experience with it, so I'm willing to give him a little runway. But goodness, every single move he made backfired.

Do you understand how bad you have to be to get out-coached by Aaron Boone in October? Horrendous.

Embarrassing series.

What's going on with college football ratings?

OK, let's rapid-fire this Thursday class into a big Thursday night of (61 straight days of) football! First up? We've got a fresh batch of TV ratings from the first month of the college football season, and they are ... concerning:

Down 11% year over year. Not great. Concerning. Troubling.

Now, the question is ... why? A couple thoughts from me, and then I'll let you guys take us home.

Fans are exhausted by the court hearings and NIL/transfer portal stuff. It consumed the entire offseason, and it's bled over into the season. Thanks, LSU! The transfer portal nonsense, specifically, is really a turn-off. College sports used to be all about school loyalty and recruiting. Not anymore. Fans are tired of it. We can't name most of the players on a team anymore. That's a major problem.
The Big Ten's schedule has been pretty bad through the first month, and that's an understatement. The Ohio State-Texas and Oregon-USC games have been the two biggies thus far. Oklahoma—Michigan wasn't terrible. But, for the most part, it's been a slow start for the Big Ten. Don't even bother looking at defending champ Indiana's schedule. It's insane.

The SEC has a nine-game conference schedule, which means it's going to naturally have a better slate. The SEC's bench is much deeper than the Big Ten's. That's not me being an SEC homer. It's me being honest. The SEC's bottom feeders this year (South Carolina, Vandy) are just far more appealing than the Big Ten's (Rutgers, Michigan State, Maryland).
Beyond Miami, the ACC really has no appeal. FSU stinks this year, again. Clemson stinks this year, again. Louisville gave Ole Miss a fight and gave the ACC hope, and then looked horrible against Wake Forest last weekend.
Bottom line? The SEC is doing a lot of heavy lifting early on, the Big Ten has played a ton of cupcakes, and we're all pretty tired of the NIL and transfer portal nonsense. And please, for the love of God, stop talking about this "Protect College Sports Act." We do not care. It's football season. Not C-SPAN season. Enough already.
