Federal officials identify 400 noncitizens registered to vote in Washington state: 'Tip of the iceberg'

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Monday that investigators have identified more than 400 noncitizens illegally registered to vote in Washington state, some of whom have cast ballots in multiple elections dating back decades.

Many on the list are green card holders with legal immigration status and permanent residency, according to the U.S. attorney’s offices for the Eastern and Western districts of Washington.

"We have identified over 400 noncitizens who are registered to vote and have voted in multiple elections. This is only the tip of the iceberg," Acting U.S. Attorney Neil Floyd for the Western District of Washington said in a statement. "We will continue to investigate and identify those who are committing crimes by voting illegally."

The move builds on the DOJ's legal action against Los Angeles County, where it has sought to set aside roughly 20,000 mail-in ballots sent to individuals whose citizenship status is in question.

Meanwhile, immigration officials told Fox News Digital Tuesday that dozens of noncitizens have also been arrested nationwide in a major voter fraud crackdown.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Floyd said investigators identified hundreds of noncitizen voters by reviewing U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) records, which showed that some people who applied for certain benefits had also voted.

While some individuals voted only once or three times in past elections, Floyd said others voted as many as 27 times. In total, his office counted approximately 1,500 instances of noncitizens casting ballots.

He emphasized that some noncitizens had been voting for decades, predating Washington’s transition to a vote-by-mail system.

"I think the earliest moment we have is 1984," Floyd said. "It's early 90s, late 80s, I believe."

However, Floyd said he had not checked whether any of the individuals voted in the upcoming midterms, explaining that he did not want to "interfere with the current election."

The number of potential noncitizen voters could represent only a fraction of the broader population, Floyd said, because the list includes only individuals who sought certain benefits in Washington state.

"If you take that population, and you expand it out to include all the people that are here illegally that we haven't had contact with, just my estimation is that it's going to be in the thousands," Floyd said.

Federal officials said many green card holders were registered to vote without their knowledge through Washington’s Motor Voter program, which integrates voter registration into the state’s Department of Licensing.

"We have heard from green card holders who were registered against their knowledge via the Washington Motor Voter program. Then they receive a ballot in the mail and assume they are legally registered — that simply is not the case," the notice said.

According to the Washington secretary of state’s website, eligible residents are automatically registered to vote only if they provide proof of U.S. citizenship during a driver’s license or ID card registration process.

The findings have prompted federal officials to identify patterns in how the voter registration process has failed, Floyd said.

According to the DOJ notice, federal officials are asking Washington state to set aside ballots cast by the identified individuals until their citizenship status can otherwise be confirmed.

"Washington is now on notice that noncitizens are voting. It is up to the state to take action to make sure that they are not allowing these noncitizens to vote illegally," the notice said.

Officials warned that voting as a noncitizen can have serious consequences for those seeking to become U.S. citizens. Potential criminal charges include making false statements in a naturalization application, while some individuals could also face charges for fraudulent voter registration.

On Tuesday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told Fox News Digital that numerous illegal aliens had also admitted to unlawfully registering to vote or casting ballots in U.S. elections.

Of the dozens of suspects arrested, at least 18 had voted in a federal election.

The individuals were from a range of countries, including Mexico, Somalia, Honduras, Guyana, Cuba, Germany, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Vietnam, El Salvador, Cambodia, Guatemala, Portugal and Italy.

Many also faced charges for numerous alleged crimes, including counterfeiting, fraud, kidnapping, DUI, sexual offenses, assault with a dangerous weapon, drug possession and burglary.

Cassidy Hutchinson avoids indictment after DOJ effort to charge her over Jan. 6 testimony fails: sources

A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., declined to indict former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson after the Justice Department sought criminal charges over statements she made to Congress in 2022, two sources confirmed to Fox News Digital.

The Justice Department had sought to indict Hutchinson over allegations that she lied to the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot, but the effort failed Tuesday, according to the sources.

It remains unclear whether federal prosecutors will make another attempt to secure an indictment.

Hutchinson, a former top aide to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, emerged as one of the most prominent witnesses before the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and President Donald Trump's efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 election.

During a nationally televised hearing in June 2022, Hutchinson testified about Trump's actions on Jan. 6, including an account she said she heard from another White House official about the president's reaction after being told he could not travel to the Capitol.

Her account of an alleged confrontation inside the presidential vehicle was subsequently disputed by other individuals familiar with the events.

Fox News Digital previously reported that a federal grand jury in Washington had heard evidence concerning possible false statements Hutchinson made to the congressional committee.

At the time, a source familiar with the matter said additional evidence could be presented to the grand jury as soon as the following week and that no final decisions had been made about whether the investigation would result in criminal charges.

The New York Post also reported that the Justice Department was investigating Hutchinson over possible false statements to Congress.

The grand jury's decision not to indict Hutchinson does not establish whether her congressional testimony was truthful or false. Hutchinson has previously maintained that she stands by her testimony.

Man accused of threatening to hijack United flight says it was a drunken joke

A New Jersey man accused of sending a text threatening to hijack a United Airlines flight over the weekend told investigators he had been drinking and described the message as poorly worded banter with a coworker, according to an arrest report.

Dante Milne, 25, allegedly sent the threatening message Saturday while aboard United Airlines Flight 1681, a Boeing 737 carrying 150 passengers and six crew members from Las Vegas to Newark, New Jersey.

"I’m gonna hijack this b---- and crash ur row only," Milne allegedly wrote, according to an arrest report cited by FOX5 Vegas.

The message was allegedly spotted by a flight attendant shortly after departure, and the crew alerted the captain, who secured the cockpit and diverted the aircraft back to Harry Reid International Airport, where it landed at approximately 11:05 p.m.

The flight was delayed overnight after the crew reached its permitted working hours and departed for Newark the following morning, United Airlines previously told Fox News Digital.

Authorities later charged Milne with one count of making threats or conveying false information concerning an act of terrorism.

According to an arrest report, Milne told investigators he had consumed a beer and several shots at an airport bar before boarding.

He said he then fell asleep aboard the plane and woke up to discover the aircraft was returning to Las Vegas.

Milne initially acknowledged texting someone aboard the flight but said he could not remember the messages. When investigators specifically asked about the alleged hijacking threat, he described it as poorly worded "banter between coworkers," according to the arrest report.

Milne reportedly said he never intended to take control of the aircraft and apologized for what happened.

He told detectives he was returning home after spending three days in Las Vegas for an apprenticeship training program involving underwater welding, according to the report.

Air traffic control audio previously obtained by ATC.com and reported by Fox News captured the pilot explaining the situation as the flight returned to Las Vegas, including that the passenger suspected of making the threat apparently did not realize the aircraft had turned around because of him.

"The passenger does not know anything is going on," the pilot told air traffic controllers. "The flight attendant saw him texting that he was going to hijack the aircraft and called me and we went lockdown. … No restraint, passenger is compliant because he’s unaware."

Milne was later released on $10,000 bail, and his attorney told a judge Tuesday that he intended to plead not guilty, according to KLAS-TV.

Milne is due back in court on Jan. 5.

After the incident, United Airlines said the flight had returned to Las Vegas to address a "potential security concern."

"United Flight 1681 from Las Vegas to Newark on Saturday, Oct. 24, safely returned to Las Vegas to address a potential security concern," United Airlines previously told Fox News Digital.

"The flight was delayed overnight due to crew timeout, and departed for Newark this morning."

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also confirmed that the flight's crew reported a "passenger disturbance" and that the incident remained under investigation.

The WNBA moved a potential championship-clinching game from Primetime to Thursday afternoon. It has yet to answer OutKick’s questions about why it chose a weekday afternoon over other options.

Game 6 between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries will tip off at 12:30 p.m. ET Thursday at State Farm Arena, rather than its originally scheduled 8 p.m. start. For Golden State fans watching back home, that’s 9:30 a.m. PT.

The game will still air on the USA Network and stream on Peacock.

The Valkyries lead the best-of-seven series 3-2 and can win their first championship Thursday. Atlanta needs a victory to force Game 7, which will be played Saturday at 8 p.m. ET at Chase Center in San Francisco. Unless the WNBA runs into yet another scheduling issue, of course.

OutKick asked Versant, USA Network’s parent company, what role it had in choosing or approving the new start time and whether it supported the move. A source at the company said the scheduling change was the WNBA’s decision, but did not say whether USA Network approved the new start time or supported the move.

Why did the WNBA decide that a weekday afternoon was the best time for one of its biggest games?

The league has not responded to OutKick’s questions about the decision, the alternatives considered or concerns about the potential impact on viewership.

The immediate scheduling problem was another basketball game. The NBA’s Atlanta Hawks host the Cleveland Cavaliers at State Farm Arena that night. The Hawks agreed to move their start time to 8 p.m. to accommodate the WNBA game and the arena turnaround.

The teams used a similar arrangement for Game 4 on Saturday, with the WNBA game starting at 1 p.m. and the Hawks tipping off at 8:30 p.m.

Keeping Game 6 at State Farm Arena allows the Dream to accommodate substantially more fans than their roughly 3,500-seat regular home, Gateway Center Arena.

And give Atlanta credit: Fans filled the larger building for Games 3 and 4. I previously questioned whether the Dream could fill State Farm Arena for the Finals, but they answered that with sellout crowds and a loud atmosphere.

Of course, neither Game 3 nor Game 4 was played at a time when most adults are at work and most kids are in school.

According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, another option under strong consideration was playing Game 6 on Friday at State Farm Arena and moving a potential Game 7 to Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Chase Center in San Francisco.

Instead, the league kept Game 6 on Thursday and preserved the potential Halloween Game 7. Moving Game 6 to Friday and a potential Game 7 to Tuesday would have extended the series that began Oct. 17 into November if a seventh game were needed.

Shelburne initially reported on ESPN’s "NBA Today" that a potential championship celebration could be moved to a practice court because of the arena turnaround. She later clarified that there was "a resolve" to ensure any championship won Thursday would be celebrated on the court.

Winning a championship, then having to move the celebration to a practice court because the NBA needs the floor, would be a terrible look for the WNBA.

In its announcement, Commissioner Cathy Engelbert emphasized the opportunity to keep the game in the larger arena.

"The sellout crowds and extraordinary atmosphere at State Farm Arena for Games 3 and 4 were a tremendous success, and we’re excited to give thousands more fans the opportunity to experience Game 6 with a championship on the line," Engelbert said.

She also thanked the NBA, both teams, the Hawks, State Farm Arena and USA Network for their collaboration and flexibility.

But thousands more available seats don’t necessarily mean thousands more people can attend. Fans who made Wednesday night and Saturday afternoon work now have to figure out a Thursday lunchtime tipoff.

The same problem applies to the television audience. Golden State fans who want to watch their team play for a championship will have to tune in at 9:30 on a Thursday morning.

The league announced the change Monday, three days before the game, with tickets going on sale that afternoon.

The WNBA said it would work with the NBA and its broadcast partners on a coordinated marketing campaign across television, digital and social platforms to promote the new start time.

More promotion might help people find the game, but it won’t change when they have to work.

Perhaps Thursday afternoon was the best available compromise. But the league has been asked to explain why a potential championship clincher had to leave prime time.

Netanyahu gains overnight as Israel election heads toward political deadlock

TEL AVIV, Israel — TEL AVIV, Israel — Updated Israeli exit polls early Wednesday showed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gaining ground against his political rivals, but still falling short of a parliamentary majority, leaving the country facing a possible political deadlock despite a combined majority of seats projected for parties outside his governing bloc.

An updated Channel 12 exit poll at 2 a.m. projected 53 seats for Netanyahu's right-wing and religious bloc, compared with 49 for the main opposition led by former military chief Gadi Eisenkot and another 18 for Arab parties. Together, the opposition and Arab factions would hold 67 seats in the 120-seat Knesset, although they remain divided over forming a government together.

The overnight shift came hours after Eisenkot took the stage at his campaign headquarters in Tel Aviv, where supporters celebrated earlier projections showing the opposition ahead. Eisenkot called on Netanyahu to accept the results and step aside, but the updated numbers underscored how uncertain the race remains.

If Eisenkot can secure recommendations from at least 61 lawmakers, potentially including Arab parties, he could receive the first opportunity to form a government despite Netanyahu's Likud emerging as the largest individual party. But that would not guarantee he could assemble a governing coalition.
For Netanyahu, the election remains a waiting game. Even without a majority, he could still be tasked with forming a government — or get another opportunity if Eisenkot's efforts fail — leaving Israel facing weeks of political negotiations.

The vote was widely seen as a referendum on Netanyahu's leadership following three years of war and continuing questions about responsibility for the security failures that allowed Hamas terrorists to kill approximately 1,200 people and abduct 251 others on Oct. 7, 2023.

A last-minute battle for every vote

Throughout the final hours of the campaign, Netanyahu, Eisenkot, former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and other party leaders mounted an intensive effort to mobilize supporters and win over undecided voters.

Netanyahu's Likud party prepared hundreds of targeted campaign videos and social media messages, making digital outreach a central part of its last-minute election strategy.

Eisenkot's campaign pushed supporters to rally behind Yashar as the leading alternative to Likud, while Bennett traveled between cities and engaged voters directly and through WhatsApp conversations.

The key question now is which candidate can secure the support of at least 61 lawmakers when President Isaac Herzog consults with the newly elected parliamentary factions. If Eisenkot can obtain those recommendations, including from Arab parties, he would have a strong claim to receive the first opportunity to form a government, even though Netanyahu’s Likud is projected to remain the largest individual party. Crucially, Arab parties could recommend Eisenkot without formally joining his governing coalition. However, the final decision rests with Herzog, who is tasked with selecting the lawmaker he believes has the best chance of forming a government. Securing the first mandate would not guarantee Eisenkot could assemble a governing majority, leaving the possibility of another political deadlock.

Other surveys suggested a larger pool of undecided voters, although many were choosing between parties within the same political camp rather than switching sides.

That distinction could prove decisive in Israel's parliamentary system, where political parties need at least 3.25% of valid votes to enter the 120-seat Knesset.

Even a slight change in the vote share of smaller parties could shift several parliamentary seats and determine whether either camp has a realistic path to power.

What happens next?

The 120 seats in parliament are allocated proportionally, and parties must secure at least 3.25% of valid votes to win representation.

Once the final results are certified, Israeli President Isaac Herzog will consult with the newly elected political factions and select the lawmaker he believes has the strongest chance of forming a government.

That candidate will have 28 days to negotiate a governing coalition, with the possibility of a 14-day extension.

Official results are scheduled to be published by Nov. 4. Until a new government takes office, Netanyahu's outgoing government will remain in power.

Alabama defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. has been dismissed from the team after being arrested for the second time in a year, coach Kalen DeBoer said Tuesday.

Kirkpatrick was arrested Friday on charges related to allegedly harassing and doxxing the University of Alabama police officer who arrested him in 2025. According to police documents obtained by The Athletic, Kirkpatrick allegedly sent the officer a harassing message and posted a photo of the officer, his wife and their two children on Facebook with the caption "Dis him?"

"After gathering more information on the situation, Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. will no longer be a part of our program," DeBoer said in a statement. "He did not live up to the standards and expectations that I have set for this team and our players."

Kirkpatrick allegedly sent profanity-laced messages to the officer through Facebook Messenger on Oct. 20, according to arrest records obtained by The Athletic.

Kirkpatrick was initially arrested in Tuscaloosa on three counts of reckless endangerment and charges of attempting to elude police and speeding. Following the arrest, he was suspended for the final seven games of last season before re-joining the team in the spring.

BioWare, founded in 1995, has closed after 31 years. Bloomberg reported that the studio "has struggled in recent years with critically panned titles such as ‘Mass Effect: Andromeda’ and ‘Anthem,’" and that the "studio’s most recent game, ‘Dragon Age: The Veilguard,’ missed sales expectations and led EA to gut the studio last year."

"Now, after more than three decades of shared adventures, BioWare is closing and early development on the next Mass Effect project is ending, the studio said in an Oct. 21 company blog post.

Former "Dragon Age" lead writer David Gaider later said another installment was unlikely under EA and that the series previously survived because it had outperformed expectations.

"The Veilguard" also drew controversy for its transgender and nonbinary themes, including a character creation option allowing players to add top surgery scars. In one scene criticized online, a character accidentally misgenders another character, who is nonbinary, and performs a fictional apology ritual.

Ten months into New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s term, education advocates tell Fox News Digital that the democratic socialist mayor is falling short of delivering on the education promises he made during his campaign.

"It's not good enough to be the TikTok mayor for 900,000 New York City public school students and their families," said David Bloomfield, former general counsel for the New York City Board of Education.

"We need movement, not just words."

Mamdani, who campaigned on a progressive education platform, was expected to make significant changes to the city's struggling public school system, but education advocates argue that his first 10 months in office have produced few substantive changes to K-12 education.

"Mayor Mamdani has not addressed education adequately," Bloomfield said. "Most people who are involved in education advocacy and many parents are disappointed because they really expected a big shift from the last administration. Mamdani ran on a very progressive agenda overall, a kind of activist agenda, and yet we haven't seen many changes from the Adams administration in terms of K-12 education," said Class Size Matters founder Leonie Haimson.

Bloomfield, a professor emeritus at Brooklyn College, argued that Mamdani's administration has yet to establish a comprehensive strategy for addressing declining enrollment, racial segregation, overcrowded classrooms and other issues facing the Big Apple’s public school system.

New York City has allocated a $38.6 billion budget to its public schools, which serve nearly one million students. The city spends 50% more per student than Los Angeles and Chicago, the country's other two largest school districts, according to a New York Post analysis.

Bloomfield questioned whether the city is directing funding where it is most needed. He said funding continues to support schools with declining enrollment, while overcrowded campuses "bursting at the seams" struggle to accommodate their student populations.

"Money will go a long way to solving the education problem in New York," said Bloomfield. "The problem, though, where does that money go? How is that money used?"

Haimson, a longtime education advocate who fights for smaller class sizes in New York City, criticized Mamdani's sudden loss of momentum on overcrowded classrooms.

Kathy Hochul and supported by Mamdani when he was a state assemblyman, requires New York City public schools to limit class sizes to between 20 and 25 students, depending on grade level. Mamdani has sought a two-year extension of the compliance deadline, which would push full implementation to 2030.

"The one thing he was most enthusiastic about was lowering class sizes and complying with the class size law. And yet, as soon as he got elected, he decided he wanted an extension," Haimson told Fox News Digital.

"I expected that they would come out with a real plan on how that space would be created, and they have not done so," she added.

Haimson said Mamdani’s education agenda remains limited compared with his broader campaign platform, arguing that his approach to K-12 schools has largely mirrored that of his predecessor, former New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

Bloomfield echoed Haimson’s argument, saying that unlike Adams and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Mamdani lacks a clear education agenda.

"I think there's disappointment. People want change," he said. "Change is necessary, whether it's in terms of race … quality education, reading scores, math scores. There really is a need for improvement, and yet we're hearing nothing out of City Hall or the Department of Education."

During his first six months in office, Adams issued 21 press releases related to K-12 education — including announcements about expanding the gifted and talented program and introducing dyslexia screening — compared with Mamdani's 11 releases during the corresponding period, according to an analysis by Chalkbeat.

While Haimson credited Mamdani with launching the city’s first 2-K initiative, which expands early education and childcare to 2-year-olds through a partnership with Hochul, she said the administration has paid little attention to students older than five.

Both Haimson and Bloomfield told Fox News Digital that Mamdani and Samuels must make K-12 education a more prominent priority for the administration and develop a clearer strategy for addressing persistent challenges.

"I'd like him … to pay more attention to K-12 education, because he did get mayoral control renewed, and it really is one of the top responsibilities of mayors in this city is to make sure that New York City kids are getting a good education," Haimson said.

"We really need either the chancellor, Kamar Samuels, or the mayor himself to step up," Bloomfield added.

Travelers heading to Italy and Spain could face major transportation disruptions this week as workers prepare to strike.

Rail passengers in Spain could see delays and cancellations beginning Thursday, Oct. 29, while a nationwide strike in Italy on Friday could affect trains, flights and other forms of transportation, according to reports.

In Spain, train drivers represented by the SEMAF union are planning a 24-hour strike Thursday that will affect Renfe, Spain's national passenger rail company, according to an announcement from the union.

SEMAF cited concerns, including railway safety, working conditions and what it described as unfulfilled commitments as reasons for the strike.

Some trains will continue operating during the strike under minimum service requirements.

The Spanish government has required 73% of Renfe's high-speed and long-distance trains and 65% of its medium-distance trains to run during the strike, according to Renfe.

Renfe has pushed back against some of the reasons given for the strike.

The company said it's completed the steps it was responsible for under a February agreement aimed at improving the country's rail system, according to a company press release.

"Yes, there is a huge age gap there, OK?" Chrisley, 29, said of Jason during the podcast. "And that’s probably part of the reason why I kept a lot of it quiet, because I know how brutal the public can be. But I genuinely do not care.

"I have always said, ‘I would rather [have] 20 phenomenal, unbelievable years with someone than 50 ‘meh’ years.' Like, the amount of love and respect that we have, we have so many dreams, and we dream together, we work together … we want to have life experiences with each other. And I think that’s when you know you have the right person, when you don’t feel like you have to escape them at times.

"We do everything together. … And it’s just such an amazing, fulfilling feeling to finally find your person. And I’m there. So, yes, the age difference. So what?"

Chrisley, who revealed she got engaged in December 2025, shared limited details abougt the day Jason proposed.

"When he gave me the ring, he was like, ‘Before I open this, I just want you to know that this is just an expression of love to you. This can be whatever you want it to be. This can be an engagement ring, a promise ring, a cocktail ring for all I care. I just want you to know how much I love you,'" she recalled. "And there was no pressure ever put on me to, like, ‘You have to accept this as this.'"

While she acknowledged the engagement was "really quick," she stressed that "timing means nothing."

On Tuesday, Chrisley also announced that she and Jason are expecting their first child together in an emotional Instagram post.

"I’ve prayed for this life. I’ve cried for this life. And there were moments I truly wondered if this life would ever be mine," she wrote alongside a video montage announcing the pregnancy.

"The past few years have taken me through fires I never imagined I’d have to walk through. Seasons of heartbreak, loss, and moments when I didn’t know if I would ever make it to the other side. "And then God sent me J. Right in the middle of the heartbreak. Before all the pieces were put back together. And somehow, he began healing parts of me he never broke.

"My protector. My fiercest fighter. My most loyal person. My lover. My safe place. A man with the patience of Job — and Lord knows he needs it. The one who makes me laugh even on my hardest days.

"For the first time in a long time, I feel safe. I feel fulfilled. I can finally exhale. I found my forever in you."

Chrisley went on to describe her pregnancy as the couple’s "sweetest blessing yet."

"J, watching the way you already love and protect our baby before he/she has even entered this world has made me fall in love with you in an entirely new way," she wrote.

"Not a single doctor’s appointment missed. Constantly caring for me, talking about our baby, and reminding me how beautiful my growing bump is. I thank God every day that this baby gets to call you Daddy."

Chrisley also addressed women who may be waiting for their own "forever."

"And to the woman still in her waiting season… wondering when it will finally be her turn, wondering if God has forgotten her… Please don’t mistake God’s silence for His absence," she wrote.

"Sometimes He’s writing the most beautiful chapters of your story while you’re still trying to make sense of the ones that broke your heart.

"I once prayed just to make it through another day. Now I get to spend forever with the love of my life, carrying a little miracle we already love more than words," she continued.

"From heartbreak to healing. From surviving to living. From praying for my forever to building a family with him.

"Only God could have written this story."

Chrisley previously discussed her relationship with Jason during a June appearance on the "Whine Down with Jana Kramer" podcast, where she admitted that her father, Todd Chrisley, is "not too fond" of the age difference.

"Age-gap relationships are the new thing. You’re going to see it everywhere," she said. "There are all these couples that are huge age-gap relationships, but it just works. It’s insane.

"For me, I’m not dealing with the insecurity of a younger guy who’s trying to keep up. Honestly, it’s the healthiest relationship I’ve ever been in," she continued.

"He’s my biggest cheerleader," Chrisley added. "He’s not intimidated by my success, which is so great.

Russian diesel tankers close in on US ports as Trump, Putin deal triggers legal showdown

As three tankers carrying Russian diesel are crossing the Atlantic toward U.S. ports, with a fourth set to depart soon, President Donald Trump's fuel deal with Moscow is drawing opposition in Congress and threats to investigate companies involved in the shipments.

A former Treasury Department sanction official confirmed to Fox News Digital that Trump has the legal authority to allow the imports despite a 2022 law banning Russian energy products, arguing that Washington's authorization does not eliminate the underlying prohibition.

"The concern that the president has violated a law from 2022 that prohibits the importation is actually not founded in law, so the president certainly has the authority in this case to provide the authorization," Jeremy Paner, a partner at Hughes Hubbard & Reed, told Fox News Digital.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak also confirmed the tanker movements Tuesday on the sidelines of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GEC) summit, saying a fourth vessel was expected to depart Russia Oct. 28.

"There are three ships at the moment. The fourth has not yet departed," Novak said, according to TASS.

The shipments, totaling around 140,000 metric tons, is the first authorized cargo under an Oct. 9 agreement between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin temporarily permitting imports of Russian diesel.

The administration followed the process to ease diesel prices amid supply disruptions linked to the war with Iran and Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries.

The deal triggered opposition on Capitol Hill, where lawmakers argue the administration lacks the authority to bypass the Ending Importation of Russian Oil Act of 2022 without congressional approval.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., also escalated opposition Tuesday, demanding that two shipping companies recall tankers carrying Russian diesel bound for U.S. ports.

In letters to Eastern Mediterranean Maritime Limited and PetroVietnam, Blumenthal argued that the Treasury Department's General License No. 135 cannot override the 2022 import ban and warned that the deliveries would violate federal law.

He also demanded details about the companies involved in the shipments and any federal guidance they received by Oct. 31.

Paner, however, drew a distinction between removing sanctions and authorizing specific transactions.

"Trump's action did not lift or remove or waive the underlying prohibition on the importation of Russian diesel into the United States," Paner said.

"What it did was authorize it, and, as a matter of law, that's different. A license does not get rid of a prohibition. It's simply allowed," the expert added.

The incoming tankers have drawn scrutiny because at least two are subject to Western sanctions, according to reports.

The first tanker, the Malta-flagged Agioi Fanendes, is carrying about 40,000 metric tons of diesel and signaling New York as its destination, with an estimated arrival date of Nov. 7.

A second vessel, the 20-year-old Talisman, is expected to reach the East Coast on Nov. 9 and is sanctioned by the U.S., United Kingdom and the EU.

The third tanker, the Sierra Leone-flagged, Hong Kong-owned Leruo, is signaling an East Coast arrival around Nov. 11.

The Leruo was sanctioned in 2025 by the European Union, United Kingdom and Canada over alleged deceptive shipping practices involving Russian oil and petroleum products and conducting ship-to-ship transfers at sea.

Paner said the U.S. authorization would allow the shipments to proceed under American sanctions rules, even if a vessel is separately designated under U.S. sanctions.

"From a U.S. legal perspective, U.S. sanctions do not get in the way of importing Russian diesel from these three ships, even though one of the ships is sanctioned by the United States and even though the importation of Russian diesel is prohibited by U.S. law," Paner explained.

"Because of the breadth of the authorization that OFAC issued, it would cover anything that would touch upon Russian sanctions," Paner said, referring to the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control.

"From a U.S. perspective, it's not relevant that one of these three vessels is sanctioned by the U.S.," he added.

But Paner warned that American authorization would not automatically protect foreign companies operating under other countries' sanctions regimes.

"Where it gets complicated is the EU, U.K. and Canadian sanctions on some of the vessels, and that is because there are so many different players in the maritime industry, including shippers, insurers, re-insurers and banks," Paner said.

"There could be European operators involved, and the U.S. authorization would not authorize those European, U.K. or Canadian companies to have any involvement in these shipments."

The complications could explain why sanctioned vessels are being used for the deliveries, according to Paner.

"Sanctioned vessels would be used because of the reputational and legal risk exposure from moving Russian diesel," he said.

"Even if it's blessed by the U.S., there are other sanctions out there that these big global logistics companies and shipping companies have to keep in mind as well."

He also cautioned that vessel ownership could complicate efforts to determine which sanctions apply.

"I don't know who owns them currently. I don't know if the same entity identified by the various sanctioning authorities owns them now."

The shipments underscore a shift in Washington's approach to Russian energy restrictions imposed after Moscow's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, when the United States banned Russian petroleum imports and imposed price caps on Russian oil and refined products.

Under the deal, Washington authorized certain Russian diesel imports in exchange for Moscow releasing 300,000 metric tons to global markets, rising to 500,000 in November and potentially 1 million per month after.

Novak also criticized lawmakers opposing the arrangement, accusing them of acting against the interests of American consumers.

"Overall, it is certainly surprising to see the stance taken by Democrats, who speak out — or even take action — in a way that is not in the best interests of the residents of the United States of America," Novak said.

In an October letter to commercial banks, fuel distributors and port authorities in New York, New Jersey and along the Texas Gulf Coast, lawmakers also warned that companies involved in the diesel shipments could face investigations.

They also demanded that companies preserve transaction records, port reservations and communications, giving recipients until Oct. 28 to confirm they had taken steps to retain the documents.

"I'm confident that Congress is going to investigate on the U.S. side, and then from investigating the U.S. involvement, they'll be able to understand the non-U.S. companies that are involved as well," Paner concluded.

Country star Terri Clark says her band thinks she needs therapy for her fishing addiction

Terri Clark has a problem. At least, that's what her band thinks.

The country music legend loves fishing so much that she's taken to practicing fishing knots on her tour bus. And apparently, her bandmates have some thoughts.

"My band is just like, 'You can get therapy for this. There's a problem,'" Clark joked during an exclusive interview with OutKick OutDoors.

She blames Instagram. Every time she opens the app, the algorithm feeds her another video promising to teach her the strongest fishing knot known to mankind. Naturally, she has to try it.

But if Clark's fishing obsession requires professional intervention, she's about to find herself in excellent company.

On Sunday, the Grand Ole Opry member will participate in The Champions Celebrity Pro-Am on Old Hickory Lake near Nashville, where she'll share a boat with one of the world's top professional bass anglers.

The Pro-Am follows a three-day championship that brings together 60 of the sport's best anglers competing for a $3.25 million purse.

And Clark, who has spent years honing her skills on Lake Erie, can't wait to see how her own fishing knowledge stacks up.

"Everybody thinks I'm such a great fisherwoman," she said. "I'm like, they have no idea the level that these guys operate at. I mean, they're professionals. They make a living doing this."

The difference, she explained, is that she has the luxury of knowing her home waters. Professional anglers, on the other hand, have to figure out unfamiliar lakes, study underwater topography and adapt to whatever conditions they encounter.

"I'm going to be taking a master class in bass fishing, which will be super fun."

Clark is particularly interested in learning more about fishing electronics. She owns a Humminbird MEGA Live 2 system but hasn't installed it on her boat because, as she put it, she doesn't want to spend all day staring at a camera.

Still, she recognizes how useful the technology can be. And if Sunday's fishing lesson happens to reveal a few productive spots on Old Hickory Lake, she certainly won't complain.

"I live in Nashville, so maybe I need to mark all the spots we go to so I can go back to them with my kayak later," she joked.

The one that got away... for now

While Clark is looking forward to learning from the bass fishing pros, there's another fish occupying an awful lot of space in her brain these days.

A musky. Preferably one measuring more than 50 inches.

She recently returned from a fall fishing trip to Lake Erie, where she'd hoped to finally land one of the elusive predators. Unfortunately, Mother Nature wasn't particularly cooperative.

Strong easterly winds kept her off the water for much of the trip, while warmer-than-usual lake temperatures appeared to have delayed the muskies' typical fall movements.

But Clark isn't about to admit defeat: "I'm gonna get one though. I'm gonna get one."

She's even considering chasing muskies on Tennessee's Caney Fork River, closer to home.

In the meantime, she's got plenty of other fish to keep her busy.

Lake Erie's multi-species fishing is one of the things she loves most about the lake. On any given day, she might find herself catching bass, northern pike or walleye — sometimes on the same lure.

And she has some pretty impressive catches to her name.

In 2022, she landed a 16-pound northern pike, a fish so memorable that she had a replica made for her wall after releasing it.

But one of her favorite recent fishing memories belongs to somebody else.

Over the summer, Clark took comedian Kathleen Madigan out on Lake Erie, where Madigan landed her personal-best bass: a five-and-a-half-pounder.

"The fish was bigger than Kathleen," Clark laughed.

And watching her friend's excitement was every bit as satisfying as catching a giant fish herself.

"When they get something big and they get excited, it's just as exciting as if I caught it myself."

Conveniently enough, Madigan will also be competing in Sunday’s Pro-Am.

Not your average relaxing hobby

For someone who describes fishing as a meditative experience, Clark has a pretty intense approach to it.

"I will dehydrate myself because I won't even stop casting long enough to take a drink of water," she admitted. "I'm so zoned in on it."

She's had pike launch themselves out of the water to grab a lure right beside her boat. She's cut her hands badly enough to need bandages while fishing. And she's developed enough knowledge of Lake Erie that she keeps several weather apps handy to make sure it's safe to head out.

Even when she's touring, the fishing bug follows her.

On days off, she'll hire a guide or find someone willing to take her out on a nearby lake. She generally avoids fishing on show days, though, because the possibility of a boat breakdown causing her to miss soundcheck isn't a risk she's willing to take.

But it's not just the thrill of landing a big fish that keeps her coming back.

"It's not just about catching fish. It's not just about fishing," she said. "It's about being surrounded by nature."

After more than three decades in a career that involves bright lights, loud crowds and constant travel, Clark finds something entirely different on the water.

She described watching the sunrise over Lake Erie at 6:30 in the morning, with the water perfectly still, and being so overwhelmed by the beauty of the moment that she's been moved to tears.

"It's almost like you're part of nature's heartbeat at that time, and I don't know a better way of putting it."

That's also an experience she hopes more women and young girls will discover for themselves.

"I think that we need more female anglers out there," she said.

Her advice for beginners? Don't overcomplicate it. Find someone knowledgeable who can teach you, start with basic equipment and build your skills over time. And don't underestimate the humble wacky rig, which she says still catches bass as reliably as just about anything else.

As for Clark, she's still learning, still chasing bigger fish and still looking for the next excuse to get out on the water.

Her remaining bucket-list goals include headlining Colorado's iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre and landing that 50-plus-inch musky.

And when asked about those two dreams, Clark made one thing very clear.

"Don't ask me though if I had to choose Red Rocks or the musky. Don't ask me which one."

Dream head coach Karl Smesko came to Angel Reese’s defense after the Atlanta dropped Game 5 of the WNBA Finals.

Smesko argued officials missed what he considered a "ridiculous" amount of contact against Atlanta's star forward and the league's reigning Defensive Player of the Year.

"I give [the Valkyries] credit for playing good defense, they're known for their defense," Smesko said. "But I want to have Angel's back here. The contact on Angel compared to everybody else is just ridiculous. Just ridiculous," Smesko said after the 64-55 loss Monday to the Golden State Valkyries.

Reese finished Game 5 with seven points as the loss pushed the Dream to the brink of elimination. Although she seemed to struggled offensively, Reese still pulled down 15 rebounds. The series now shifts back to Atlanta on Thursday for Game 6.

Smesko added a blunt assessment of the officiating in the WNBA Finals: "You can't be at this level and make that many mistakes."

Smesko’s primary frustration centered on what he believed were several missed calls involving Reese. He also pointed to possible missed double-dribble and traveling violations by the Valkyries. Reese echoed her coach’s sentiments, suggesting this series was not the first time she contended with physical play and questionable officiating this year.

"I am still trying to figure out how to play through the physicality," said Reese, who was also called for four personal fouls. "I'm kind of used to it because this was happening throughout the season, so I have to just continue to play through it. But honestly, for my teammates, when they're getting slapped to the floor or knocked off, it's a little frustrating."

The three-time All-Star continued: "I know I have the mismatch, especially talking about matchups. So when I do switch on the post and I'm a lot stronger than the opponent, I should be able to turn and they're calling an offensive foul. But when I'm getting pushed before that, it's frustrating to me."

Reese was also held to single-digit scoring in Game 4, finishing the 67-62 loss with eight points.

Valkyries coach Natalie Nakase argued the physical nature of Game 5 was to be expected this late in a championship series.

"Both teams really want to win this," Nakase said. "These are two defensive-minded teams ... they like physicality, so that's part of it. I ain't shocked about this. You have an Atlanta Dream team that's well-coached, that have dogs, same as us."

Reese pointed to a shift in the way officials have called games as the series has gone on. "It definitely shifted when we went up 2-1," Reese said. "I don't know what happened, but it definitely took a big turn."

Game 5 was defined by defense, with both the Dream and Valkyries struggling to generate consistent offense. Golden State’s 64 points marked the lowest total by a team that won a WNBA Finals game since 2005.

Suspected shark knocks fisherman off kayak a mile off California coast, forcing swim to shore

A California fisherman was forced to swim to shore after a suspected shark struck his kayak about a mile offshore, capsizing the vessel and leaving it too damaged to stay afloat, according to fire officials.

The fisherman was near Leffingwell Landing in Cambria around 9:30 a.m. Monday when something struck the underside of his kayak, throwing him into the water, the Cambria Fire Department said in a Facebook post.

He managed to climb back aboard and paddle toward shore, but punctures in the hull caused the kayak to fill with water, forcing him to swim the rest of the way.

SHARK BITES FISHERMAN TWICE DURING KAYAKING ENCOUNTER ALONG CALIFORNIA BEACH

The fisherman reached shore without injuries, according to the department.

Firefighters responded after he reached land and launched a rescue boat to recover the damaged kayak, along with his fishing gear and personal belongings.

Dr. Chris Lowe of California State University, Long Beach's Shark Lab reviewed photographs of the damage and determined it was reasonable to suspect a shark was responsible, according to the fire department.

However, officials emphasized that shark involvement has not been definitively confirmed.

Nocchi escaped without injuries, according to California Department of Fish and Wildlife records and reports from the time.

Another fisherman, David Zamora, reported a similar encounter near Cambria in 2019, when a roughly 10-foot great white shark bit his kayak about two miles offshore from Leffingwell Landing, according to local news outlet KSBY. Zamora was thrown into the water but managed to climb back aboard before a nearby boater rescued him. He was not injured.

California has documented 233 shark incidents since 1950, including 36 involving kayaking or canoeing, according to Department of Fish and Wildlife figures updated in January 2026. The agency's records include encounters in which sharks make contact with kayaks, surfboards or other equipment, even when no injuries occur.

State wildlife officials say some white shark encounters may involve exploratory bites as the animals investigate unfamiliar objects in the water, including kayaks. Such behavior does not necessarily indicate that a shark was attempting to prey on a person.

Following Monday's suspected encounter, the Cambria Fire Department urged ocean users to exercise additional caution, remain aware of their surroundings and avoid entering the water when sharks are visibly active.

A Haitian illegal immigrant accused of fatally shooting a Walmart employee outside a Pennsylvania store entered the U.S. through a Biden-era migrant parole program, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) sources told Fox News.

Destino Jean-Louis, 23, was charged with murder in the Oct. 21 shooting death of 45-year-old Latosha Ann Cooper outside a Walmart in Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County, according to court documents and the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office.

Multiple DHS sources told Fox News that Jean-Louis entered the U.S. legally on Nov. 24, 2023, through Fort Lauderdale International Airport under the Biden administration's CHNV parole program for migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela.

His legal status was revoked by DHS on June 12, 2025, the sources said.

"On October 23, ICE arrested Destino Jean-Louis, a criminal illegal alien from Haiti, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania," DHS said in a statement to Fox News. "Jean-Louis is currently under investigation for homicide by Montgomery County."

DHS said Jean-Louis entered the country legally in November 2023 and was transferred to local authorities Oct. 26.

"He chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws. Under President [Donald] Trump and [DHS} Secretary [Markwayne] Mullin, if you break the law, you will face the consequences. Criminal illegal aliens are not welcome in the U.S.," DHS said.

Investigators allege Jean-Louis targeted Cooper after an immigration-related marriage arrangement between the two fell apart, according to FOX 29 and 6ABC Philadelphia.

The two met while working at Walmart in 2024 and later married after Cooper allegedly offered to help Jean-Louis obtain a green card, 6ABC Philadelphia reported, citing court documents.

His application was denied in July, and Cooper withdrew from the process and cut off contact with him, according to the outlet.

Investigators said Jean-Louis then contacted Walmart employees seeking Cooper's work schedule and allegedly waited outside the store for her shift to end on Oct. 21.

A co-worker told police she was talking with Cooper in the parking lot when a masked man approached and shot her, 6ABC Philadelphia reported.

Jean-Louis allegedly hid near bushes outside the Walmart wearing a mask and waited for Cooper to finish her night shift, according to Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele.

"When Cooper left the store, he ran towards her and fatally shot her," according to court documents.

Cellphone records placed Jean-Louis at the Walmart around the time of the shooting and on several nights beforehand, investigators said, according to 6ABC Philadelphia.

Court documents also allege Jean-Louis, a former employee at the same Walmart, had previously assaulted Cooper and repeatedly contacted store employees seeking her work schedule.

Jean-Louis denied being at the store when Cooper was killed, according to 6ABC Philadelphia.

He was charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, an illegal alien use of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license and possession of an instrument of crime, according to court documents.

Jean-Louis is being held without bail at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

A spokesperson for Walmart and the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office could not immediately be reached by Fox News Digital for comment.

'Rolling Stone' releases list of 200 greatest 21st century rock songs and it's as awful as you'd imagine

Anyone of a certain age who is even tangentially familiar with rock music knows that, for a time, "Rolling Stone" magazine was almost the foremost expert on all things involving the genre.

In recent decades, however, the once-proud music mag has devolved into hipster drivel, and nowhere is that more evident than in their ranking lists.

From their infamous "250 Greatest Guitarists of All-Time" (in which they ranked Joni Mitchell and someone named Sister Rosetta Tharpe over Tony Iommi and Eric Clapton) to the perplexing "500 Greatest Albums of All-Time," the fine folks over at "Rolling Stone" have released some stinkers, opting to let their contrarian opinions and eye-rollingly leftist leanings color their rankings.

"Greatest" is a subjective term, especially when it comes to music, but when large swathes of the entire internet take exception to your rankings, you might have to reevaluate some things.

On that note, it looks like "Rolling Stone" has released yet another God-awful list, this time in the form of "The 200 Greatest Rock Songs of The 21st Century So Far."

I'll be frank with you, I don't really hold a lot of 21st century rock in high regard.

I'm a child of the '90s, but my musical tastes predate someone of my birth year by a good two decades, consisting mainly of rock and metal acts from the 1970s, '80s, and '90s.

SIX ROCK BANDS WHO GOT BETTER AFTER REPLACING KEY MEMBERS

Even then, I can admit that there is plenty of great rock to be found on this side of the year 2000, but "Rolling Stone's" list eschews most of that to try and cobble together this eclectic ranking to boost their street cred with all the gender-fluid dorks from Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn (aka, the only people still reading "Rolling Stone").

Let's start at the top and see what they selected as the "greatest" rock song of the 21st century.

"Maps" by the Yeah Yeah Yeah's. Are we serious here?

If your response is, "Who the hell are the Yeah Yeah Yeahs?" congrats, you’re not alone.

The only reason I know this song, unfortunately, is because I used to watch Fuse TV in the early 2000s and this boring, monotonous song and accompanying music video would interrupt all the fun pop-punk acts I actually wanted to see, but I digress.

This song taking the top spot is just a harbinger of things to come, so sit back as I regale you with some of the more egregious placements and omissions on this list.

For starters, I think "Rolling Stone" needs to reevaluate what the word "rock" means, because there are some musical acts dotting the upper spots of this ranking that probably shouldn't even be on here at all.

Would any of you make a rock playlist and add Lana Del Rey, Jay-Z, MGMT, Taylor Swift, and/or Lady Gaga to it?

If you answered "yes," then congratulations! You're either certifiably insane or you write for "Rolling Stone" (and those two things aren't exactly mutually exclusive).

Some of the songs that got shafted by whoever wrote this list are staggering.

CHAD GILBERT, NEW FOUND GLORY FOUNDING MEMBER AND LEAD GUITARIST, DEAD AT 45

"The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World is in the top-25, and deservedly so, but one of the pop-punk anthems of the early aughts is ranked lower than such "classics" as Geese's "Getting Killed," Mitski's "Your Best American Girl," and "Night Shift" by Lucy Dacus.

If I gathered 100 random people off the street and asked them if they knew any of those three songs, I bet the hit rate would be about 3%.

What does "Rolling Stone" mean when they say "greatest?"

Because if you ask me, how iconic a song is in the cultural zeitgeist as well as its crossover appeal and impact on pop culture should be taken into account.

I guess you really can't overstate just how impactful Mitski was on the rock scene in the early 2020s, can you?

Some more head-scratchers include Queens of the Stone Age's "No One Knows" coming in at a robust 36, three spots behind Slater-Kinney's "Entertain."

Man, when I think of rock, I would definitely pick Slater-Kinney over one of the best alternative acts of the 2000s!

System of a Down's "Chop Suey" also misses the top-25 entirely, as does Panic! At The Disco's "I Write Sins Not Tragedies."

Blink-182 is almost completely unrepresented on this list, and their highest-ranked entry, "Rock Show," failed to even crack the top-50.

I can't think of five rock bands from the 21st century who had more of an impact on music than Blink-182, yet here we are.

Others were similarly shafted (Velvet Revolver, Sum 41), but the list did get a few right.

The Strokes' "Last Nite" was included in the top-10 (although their 2003 classic "Reptilia" was still too low for my liking) and the song that just missed the top spot was none other than "Seven Nation Army" by White Stripes, a very deserving song to include in the top-five.

You can read the entire list for yourself, but suffice to say if you're a fan of traditional rock music — or things that make sense in general — you're probably going to need to take some blood pressure medication ahead of time.

Then again, as my colleague and fellow metal-head Matt Reigle pointed out, "Rolling Stone" is likely doing this just to get a rise out of old heads like us.

"What the f—? '99 Problems' is in the top-ten?"

Yes, "Rolling Stone," you've done your job. I fell for your rage bait hook, line and sinker.

The Tampa Bay Rays are hosting World Series games at Tropicana Field for the first time since 2008, and as always, the stadium itself continues to be a topic of discussion.

Perhaps as a result of the 2-0 series lead Milwaukee brought into game three, the crowd before Monday night's game contained a shockingly high percentage of Brewers fans. Like at American Family Field, the catwalk and roof support systems are in play, which, as we saw during the NLDS between Milwaukee and the San Diego Padres, can impact the outcome.

But it's not just the support systems that have drawn the ire of fans and opposing players, it's the roof itself. After Hurricane Milton destroyed much of the stadium covering in 2004, the rebuilt roof was replaced with a much brighter version. And opposing players don't like it. Really don't like it.

He's right, too. Though it's hard to say, given the level of gamesmanship baseball teams are capable of, whether it was an oversight or a purposeful design choice from Tampa to add a marginal bit of help to their home field advantage. Particularly with their often anemic attendance.

Melendez, who works for WISN 12, also reported that the Brewers spent a significant amount of time practicing how to play fly balls that take off into the roof background, as well as playing ricochet's off the support system. Smart, considering they know from direct, recent experience just how easy it is for the roof to come into play.

Fortunately for the Brewers, they didn't have to worry too much about dealing with the confusing system in game three. Last Ditch Bar and Arts Venue, a Massachusetts lesbian bar that went viral for its masking policy last month, announced Monday that it would be closing and seeking a buyer for the business.

"WE ARE CLOSING. We have put our lives on hold to foster networks of care, resources, and a home base for organizing. It's time we pass it on. We've been fighting since the beginning to fill out the team, and we still don't have a board/leadership to manage workers owned Co-op transfer. We are SOFT CLOSING effective immediately, all BOOKED events will CONTINUE, otherwise we are CLOSED," the bar wrote on Instagram.

"We need new owners ASAP, we close this winter," the bar also wrote.

Fox News Digital reached out to the bar for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

The Charlotte Hornets announced Wednesday that they will retire the No. 1 jersey of Bogues, the shortest player in NBA history at 5 feet, 3 inches, on Feb. 11, 2027 . Bogues will become the third player in franchise history to have his jersey retired, joining Bobby Phills (No. 13) and Dell Curry (No. 30).

"An original member of the Hornets, Bogues has spent more than 20 years with the organization as a player and ambassador. The honor recognizes his accomplishments during 10 seasons with the team and his enduring impact on the organization, his steadfast commitment and continued service to the Charlotte community and his contributions to the game of basketball around the globe," the Hornets said in a statement.

Bogues was selected by the Hornets in the 1988 NBA Expansion Draft and emerged as a cornerstone of the franchise. He is the franchise's all-time leader in assists (5,557), assists per game (8.8), steals (1,067) and minutes played (19,768).
