Fauci pleads Fifth with 'zero legal justification' as critics erupt and demand contempt charges

Former National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci repeatedly refused to answer substantive questions from Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Rand Paul, leaving the Kentucky Republican frustrated and critics enraged.

Fauci and Paul previously engaged in heated exchanges during an earlier hearing, when the lawmaker warned the immunologist against lying to Congress about his role in the nation's response to the coronavirus pandemic and his support for gain-of-function research.

"I served at the NIH for over 54 years, 38 of those as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Over that period, I proved that I believe in and respect the value of legitimate congressional oversight," Fauci began his opening statement.

"In fact, I testified before and or briefed Senate and House congressional oversight, Senate and House committees well over 200 times over those 38 years during and after the COVID-19 pandemic," said Fauci, who was appointed to his NIAID role by President Ronald Reagan.

RAND PAUL BLASTS FAUCI AS ‘UNCONCERNED WITH LIBERTY', ‘NOT BEING HONEST WITH THE AMERICAN PEOPLE’

Fauci said that because Paul has an "obsession" with demanding his prosecution and allegedly "slander[ed]" him, he felt he was going to be put in a trap to "vindicate [Paul’s] public pledges" that he "end up behind bars."

When Paul began a series of in-depth questions, Fauci began repeatedly pleading his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.

Paul argued that Fauci did not have that ability during a congressional investigation conducted under a lawful subpoena, noting that it is a crime under 18 U.S.C. § 1001 to knowingly make false statements to Congress.

When Fauci finished, Paul reiterated that point before Fauci's lawyer began speaking out of turn and was eventually ejected by the chairman.

Reaction was swift as Fauci's refusal to answer questions drew sharp rebuke from conservatives and other critics:

"Anthony Fauci is a monster and pleading the 5th is grotesque and every mainstream platform outlet that put him on a pedestal should be ashamed," said Rep. Jimmy Patronis, R-Fla.

"The Fifth Amendment is not legitimate," added conservative author and attorney Ann Coulter.

"The Fifth is for past crimes — for which Fauci has already been fully pardoned. I don't think the Biden admin thought this through," she said on X.

Conservative filmmaker Robby Starbuck commented on Fauci's attorney, David Schertler, being ejected by Paul after refusing to return to his seat and leave the witness dais.

Schertler kept interrupting Paul’s commands until the chairman had enough and asked Capitol Police to remove him.

"Is anyone surprised that Fauci hired someone who broke the rules and shows contempt for American taxpayers? I’m not," Starbuck said on X.

"Perfect attorney for the evil elf."

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., later claimed Schertler had been wrongly "gagged."

Investigative journalist Gerald Posner shared a clip of Fauci invoking the Fifth, criticizing the immunologist for doing so.

"This is not the transparency Americans seeking answers about COVID’s origins and the policies that upended the world wanted to hear," Posner tweeted.

"The Fifth Amendment exists to protect the innocent from government overreach. It should never become a shield against the truth."

"I called the shot this morning. Fauci will plead the fifth," White House adviser Peter Navarro said in a separate message.

Meanwhile, calls mounted to hold Fauci in contempt of Congress.

Federalist founder Sean Davis said Congress should do just that, noting former President Joe Biden gave him a "blanket pardon" for all activities occurring prior to January 2025.

"There is zero legal justification for him pleading the Fifth Amendment on questions related to his conduct during the period covered by the pardon," Davis said.

Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich questioned why Fauci would do so, suggesting congressional testimony is intended to inform the public.

"Interesting. It’s about COVID, public health, & the public’s right to know," Blagojevich said.

Moms for Liberty co-founder Tiffany Justice said in a statement obtained by Fox News Digital that Fauci's actions permanently harmed children affected by his pandemic policy recommendations:

"Parents were forced to live with the consequences of Dr. Fauci's decisions every single day. Our kids lost years of learning, friendships, milestones, and opportunities they'll never get back," Justice said.

"Now, when it's time for accountability, he refuses to answer questions under oath. That's infuriating. The American people deserve answers now."

Controversial teacher training targets parental authority as oppression, education expert warns

Teacher training programs across the country are adopting radical new educational theories to undermine parental authority and drive a wedge between parents and children, PragerU CEO Marissa Streit warned in an interview with Fox News Digital.

Streit is raising concerns over the rapid spread of the "ethnic studies" curriculum, which she says is being implemented or endorsed in more than 22 states across the nation. She specifically cited the controversial term "adultism," saying it paints standard parental boundaries as a form of oppression.

While the term "adultism" historically originated in sociology to describe age discrimination against children, Streit argued it has found new life in radical training materials and is being used to portray standard parenting rules on clothing, relationships or major medical decisions as a form of "fascism" or tyranny.

Streit displayed a teacher training manual titled, "Lessons In Liberation: An Abolitionist Toolkit for Educators," which she says promotes anti-capitalism, Critical Race Theory (CRT), and the rejection of adult authority.

The textbook's publisher, AK Press, says the book is "designed for educators, parents, and young people, this toolkit shines a light on innovative abolitionist projects, particularly in Pre-K–12 learning contexts."

However, Streit argues that ethnic studies modules simply repackage concepts like DEI, social-emotional learning, and Critical Race Theory, that have received negative attention, to promote many of their same anti-capitalist and Marxist ideals.

"[Ethnic studies] teaches the teacher to tell the student that the term adultism is a negative thing," Streit told Fox News Digital. "When an adult is behaving like an adult by telling their child that the child should not dress a certain way or have sex at an early age or even request sex or gender changes ... the parent is engaging in adultism."

She quoted a passage from the text, which allegedly says, "Adultism teaches us that adults have the power and the right to decide what young people's boundaries should be."

According to a June report by the San Francisco Chronicle, ethnic studies workshops at local schools have drawn "significant controversy" for promoting the idea of adultism as a form of oppression.

"Due to systemic power dynamics inherently the relationship between students and educators is an oppressive one," the Chronicle cited from one of the alleged training presentations that circulated on social media.

Streit also tied the push against "adultism" to ongoing legal and political battles over parental notification policies. High-profile disputes across the nation — some reaching the U.S. Supreme Court — have centered on whether schools can conceal a student's gender transition or preferred name and pronouns from their parents.

Streit noted that the largest teachers' unions in the country have opposed parental notification policies. She cited a recent resolution passed by the American Federation of Teachers which says the AFT will protect students from "forced outing," which cites President Donald Trump's executive order affirming biological gender.

According to Streit, dismantling parental authority is just one piece of a broader political strategy aligned with the platform of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

"The ultimate goal is the DSA platform, and that is to radically transform America," Streit said. She pointed to DSA officials who have publicly stated they want to dismantle major American institutions, like the U.S. Senate, and radically change the presidency and U.S. Constitution as we know it.

To achieve that goal, Streit argued, activists must first break down trust in U.S. institutions and the bonds between families and individuals and their community.

"They have to break the bond between a child and the parent. They have to break the bond between a parent and the community," Streit said. "By creating an entire chaotic environment, you create an environment of collective grievance where the individual feels helpless and hopeless ... then a new form of government comes out and says, 'Well, you can't trust anybody else, so therefore put your trust in us.' And that is always what socialists have done."

She warned that this ideology is mirrored in other examples of teacher training materials that promote dismantling ICE and law enforcement.

"And so, imagine you're training these teachers and the teachers are taking this to America's classrooms. Within a few years, you have radical Marxists graduating from our schools, believing that America should be dismantled from within. And once they dismantle America from within, they'll come in with new political power, as we've seen in Cuba and Venezuela and other places around the world," she added.

Other conservative education activists, including the group Defending Education, are also warning about divisive DEI ideologies still being implemented into district model policies and teacher training materials, despite the Trump administration's actions to eradicate DEI in public institutions. A recent report by Defending Education allegedly found DEI principles were being implemented into teachers' unions' policies on artificial intelligence.

Mamdani's 'ration shop' grocery plan faces blistering economic critique as opponents blast socialist policy

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is facing fresh criticism after unveiling plans for city-backed grocery stores that would sell food at prices 30% below traditional retailers, with opponents deriding the proposal as government-run "ration shops" and questioning how the discounts could be sustained.

"This is completely insane. Also not possible unless taxpayers are subsidizing all the groceries. Grocery store profits are tiny, a few percentage points a year, at best," wrote Outkick Founder Clay Travis.

The proposal has sparked skepticism from economists and commentators over how the city could deliver such steep discounts in an industry known for razor-thin profit margins. With grocery prices up about 33% nationwide since 2019, critics say the plan must explain how prices could undercut private retailers by 30% without significant public subsidies.

"So not only will New York taxpayers pay $70 million to build government-run grocery stores – they will also pay subsidies in perpetuity to keep them afloat while funding unfair competition against legitimate small businesses. One more problem with socialism: you eventually run out of other people’s money," said Small Business Administration administrator Kelly Loeffler.

"America discovers ration shops," posted one user on X.

"This has literally never worked. But sure, go ahead and screw New Yorkers over with your communist fantasy," said the Republican National Committee account.

"There are thousands of grocery stores in NYC. Opening 5 taxpayer subsidized Commie convenience stores is a drop in the ocean. Whole thing is absurd," said Fox News Contributor Buck Sexton.

"We all know how this story will end. It's probably attempt number one million to make socialism work. Spoiler: it will be a total failure," Latin America Watch director Agustín Antonetti wrote on X.

"Welcome to socialism, New York City. Enjoy the ride," wrote the Turning Point USA account.

Mamdani's administration claims its plan will save the average New Yorker about $1,000 a year while keeping grocery costs predictable and stable.

The proposal is rooted in a simple reality: grocery prices remain significantly higher than they were before the pandemic.

Bureau of Labor Statistics data show food-at-home prices climbed sharply following the COVID-19 pandemic, with most major grocery categories remaining significantly more expensive than they were in 2019.

City Hall says it can achieve savings by eliminating major overhead costs that private grocers face, including rent and property taxes, while contracting with private operators to run the stores. Under the proposal, a core basket of everyday groceries — including all fresh produce, meat and seafood, along with roughly 20 categories of pantry staples, dairy and refrigerated goods — would have prices locked monthly rather than fluctuating week to week.

Richard Stern, vice president of the Plymouth Institute for Free Enterprise at Advancing American Freedom, argued the proposal ultimately relies on taxpayer dollars to make up the difference between the discounted prices and the cost of operating the stores.

"They're just going to use New York City budget money to insure the discount," Stern told Fox News Digital.

MAMDANI'S RENT FREEZE, TAX HIKES A 'ONE-TWO WEALTH DESTRUCTION PUNCH,' ECONOMISTS WARN

Adam Lehodey, a policy analyst at the Manhattan Institute, took that argument a step further, saying the city's ownership model masks the true cost of the discounts.

"The 30% savings that Mamdani announced on his government-owned stores are an illusion," Lehodey told Fox News Digital. "Taxpayers will foot the bill for millions of dollars in subsidies, and they will operate on government-owned land with rents waived. New Yorkers will still be paying the full price, just indirectly," he added.

Lehodey also warned that pricing groceries well below market rates could create unintended consequences.

"Pricing goods significantly below market price creates an additional problem of people purchasing them to resell elsewhere," he said. "Shortages are also likely as people buy more than they otherwise would due to artificially low prices."

'WASTEFUL DISTRACTION': EXPERTS SLAM MAMDANI'S TAXPAYER-FUNDED GROCERY STORES

E.J. Antoni, chief economist at the Heritage Foundation, also questioned whether the city's pricing model is financially sustainable, arguing that grocery stores already operate on razor-thin profit margins.

"A 30% discount at stores with a 2% profit margin is simply a loss for taxpayers who will have to make up the difference," Antoni told Fox News Digital. "These artificially low prices will also harm small businesses which will lose sales to taxpayer-subsidized grocery stores."

Antoni said the proposal effectively shifts grocery costs from the checkout line to taxpayers while creating a competitive disadvantage for private supermarkets that must cover their own operating costs.

The administration, however, says the proposal will deliver substantial savings for shoppers.

Mamdani's office announced this week that visitors would save an average of $90 per month, or about $1,000 annually, under the plan. To deliver those savings, the city has allocated $70 million in capital funding to open five municipal grocery stores — one in each of the iconic NYC boroughs. The first is expected to open in Hunts Point in the Bronx by the end of 2027, with additional locations planned for East Harlem, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island before the end of the mayor's first term.

Under the proposal, private grocery operators will manage the stores' day-to-day operations, including staffing, merchandising and product sourcing, while the city sets pricing requirements and operating standards, provides the locations and absorbs major occupancy costs.

Hansard's management confirmed his death Wednesday, telling Irish broadcaster RTÉ that his family was "deeply shocked and heartbroken."

According to Irish police, a man in his 50s was killed in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Lucan, on the outskirts of Dublin, before 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. First responders treated the rider at the scene, but he was pronounced dead shortly after.

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee’s hearing with Anthony Fauci on Capitol Hill got off to a rocky start Wednesday morning when Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., ordered one of Fauci’s lawyers removed after he repeatedly refused to stop disrupting the proceedings.

Fauci refused to respond to questions from Paul, repeatedly invoking the Fifth Amendment.

The hearing then took a turn when attorney David Schertler, whom Paul identified as one of Fauci’s "half a dozen" lawyers, attempted to speak without being recognized.

"You are not recognized, you're not recognized. If you are unruly, you will be removed from the proceeding," Paul warned.

Despite this, Schertler, who was seated beside Fauci, continued to speak.

You are not invited here for testimony, sir. You are being disruptive. Would you behave this way in a courtroom? No, because the judge would put you in jail. I can't do that today. But I can have you escorted from the premises. So, I would say, sir, sit quietly and don't say another word."

"Another word and you’re gone," Paul added.

Despite these warnings, the man continued speaking, prompting Paul to ask security to "please remove him from the room."

A House Democratic lawmaker compared actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to domestic terrorism after a visit to a Texas detention facility on Tuesday.

Rep. Luz Rivas, D-Calif., said that seeing ICE's actions was personal for her as the daughter of Mexican immigrants and argued that "for the people of the United States, we don't want to see our government, or ICE officials, acting like domestic terrorists," she said in Spanish during a press conference.

She said her Los Angeles district saw more ICE raids than anywhere else in her county.

Rivas was among a group of lawmakers led by Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, on a visit to an ICE facility in Dilley, Texas, which over 100 House Democrats have demanded to be shut down.

The lawmakers accused the Trump administration of holding families, including a child as young as 2 months old, in inhumane conditions.

"It's so important that we not acquiesce to this, this fascist administration, this dictator in the Oval Office," Pressley said. "History has shown us time again, appeasement does not work. The only way to beat a dictator is with defiance. The only way to beat fascism is to refuse to accept this segregated, divided, dark, dystopian view that they have for our country, is to reject it as an inevitability."

She called on Americans to "resist, reject, condemn at every turn."

But it's that kind of rhetoric that Republicans have argued is responsible for sending tensions across the U.S. skyrocketing.

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in response to Rivas' comments, "Attacks and demonization of ICE law enforcement are wrong. Because of smears like this our ICE officers are now facing a 1,300% increase in assaults against them as they put their lives on the line to arrest murderers, rapists, pedophiles, gang members, and terrorists. ICE law enforcement is arresting criminals and saving countless American lives."

"Rep. Luz Rivas should be thanking our law enforcement for removing these dangerous criminals from her state—NOT vilifying law enforcement," the spokesperson said.

GOP allies of the president have accused Democrats of encouraging violence and resistance against ICE agents, drawing a line between encouragement to resist federal immigration officers and the slate of violent incidents involving those officers this year alone.

But Democrats are accusing ICE of acting as a rogue agency outside the bounds of the law.

"We have to abolish ICE. And then I'm going to take it one step further and say any of those agents that have contributed to and caused the injury, the harm, and even fatalities, they must also be held accountable," Pressley said. "And we should abolish qualified immunity for these federal law enforcement officers."

In a letter sent earlier this month, 111 House Democrats accused the administration of harming children and families with the conditions at the Dilley detention center.

"Parents describe horrendous conditions at Dilley, leading to severe depression, hopelessness, and suicidal ideation amongst their children. Children have reported that their food is often contaminated with worms and mold and that they feel sick after drinking tap water," the letter said. "Families also report not being able to sleep at night because the lights are kept on in their rooms throughout the night. … Medical care provided by CoreCivic staff is delayed, denied, and in many cases outright dismissed, even when children are suffering life-threatening medical emergencies."

DHS did previously accuse Democrats of lying about conditions at Dilley, which it said in a press release was specialized to hold families and care for children specifically.

"The Dilley facility is retrofitted for families. Children have access to teachers, classrooms, and curriculum booklets for math, reading, and spelling. They have access to age-appropriate books, toys, and outdoor activities. All of this is generously funded by the U.S. taxpayer," DHS said.

"Infant care packages include formula, baby food, bottles, diapers, wipes, and hygiene items. The facility also provides sippy cups and cribs. Adults with children are housed in facilities that provide for their safety, security, and medical needs."

Cockpit alarms blared as two Delta Air Lines jets narrowly avoided each other over Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport during a frightening near miss now under federal investigation.

The incident between the two Delta flights happened around 11 p.m. Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) told Fox News Digital in a statement.

"Delta Air Lines Flight 2472 was departing from Hartsfield – Jackson Atlanta International Airport when it crossed in front of Delta Air Lines Flight 1568, which had executed a pilot-initiated go-around because another aircraft was slow to exit the same runway," the FAA said.

The airline said that the flight landed safely and passengers deplaned normally.

Cannabis cafes may become tourist draw in US city as lung experts cite 'toxic chemical' concerns

Amsterdam-style cannabis cafés are one step closer to opening in a major U.S. city — with others potentially watching closely.

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted in mid-July to allow licensed cannabis retailers to serve food and nonalcoholic drinks on site — similar to cannabis cafés that exist in the Netherlands, as Fox 2 KTVU reported.

Even as retailers anticipate pulling in more tourist traffic as a result of the development, lung experts cite health concerns connected to the move.

Under the new ordinance, cannabis may only be consumed on the premises and cannot be taken off-site. Alcohol and tobacco, meanwhile, are prohibited.

Operators must also obtain a Department of Public Health consumption permit alongside their Office of Cannabis permit, meet restaurant food safety standards and electronically verify every customer's age at the door.

The measure supports AB 1775, a 2024 state law signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom that allows cities to issue licenses for cannabis cafés, as local outlet KQED reported. In a statement, Rafael Mandelman, board president, said San Francisco "just gave our legal cannabis industry a real tool to compete and grow," the outlet reported.

He also cited the potential economic benefits of attracting more visitors.

Mayor Daniel Lurie, a Democrat, signed the legislation July 23. On August 23, the Office of Cannabis will begin accepting applications for cannabis café permits.

The passage of the cannabis café legislation "marks a new initiative for the city’s economic recovery and for the broader cannabis community," said Nikesh Patel, director of the San Francisco Office of Cannabis.

Patel's office "is working closely with other city departments to implement this new permit type responsibly, while maintaining core services to enforce compliance across the industry," he told Fox News Digital.

Amy O'Gorman Jenkins, executive director of the California Cannabis Operators Association, told Fox News Digital she thinks other cities "can and should consider similar models," assuming San Francisco's experiment is a success.

"The purpose of authorizing cannabis cafés was to transform a brief retail transaction into a hospitality experience," she said.

"Allowing this activity in San Francisco will attract visitors … and generate broader economic activity," she asserted.

O'Gorman Jenkins said cannabis cafés "are not simply dispensaries where people can stay longer."

O'Gorman Jenkins mentioned that AB 1775 has safeguards to protect employees from excessive secondhand smoke — but not everyone agrees.

‘Wrong direction’

A representative from the American Lung Association told Fox News Digital the ordinance moves San Francisco "in the wrong direction" because of secondhand smoke.

"Permitting cannabis lounges normalizes [the] deleterious effects of smoking cannabis and exposes the adjacent properties to secondhand cannabis smoke, which contains many of the same toxic chemicals, carcinogens and fine particulate matter found in tobacco smoke," said Kesa Bruce, director of California Advocacy for the American Lung Association.

"Employees working in cannabis cafés would be required to spend hours each day in an environment where they are repeatedly exposed to harmful airborne pollutants simply to do their jobs," Bruce contended.

"There’s a widespread belief that marijuana is ‘natural’ and therefore harmless," Corey Gamberg, a mental health and addiction specialist who serves as executive director of the Rockland Recovery Center and Massachusetts Center for Addiction, previously told Fox News Digital.

"In reality, today’s products are far more potent than in previous decades, and we’re seeing very real mental, emotional and physical consequences in clinical settings every day."

Trent Carter, a board-certified nurse practitioner, addiction recovery expert and founder of Renew Health, an outpatient treatment center in New Mexico, also noted that marijuana has become a more commonly accepted substance — but he's seen some negative effects in his own patients.

"As time went on, I discovered that the vast majority used marijuana to treat a number of mental and physical issues, only to induce a litany of other symptoms as a result," he told Fox News Digital earlier this year.

The proposal sparked discussion on a San Francisco Reddit forum, where users expressed excitement.

"This is sooooo needed. Can’t wait," a commenter wrote.

"I'll be seeing you guys there in 10 years when the first café finally opens!" another joked.

Others were skeptical about the plans.

"I hope this [will] limit some public weed smoking," one person said. "It’s such an anti-social behavior. Don’t like getting hit with other people’s big puffs out on the street."

Another person wrote, "It would be nice to have more social spaces, but the indoor smoke makes them pretty much un-attendable for more than a few minutes."

The proposal also comes as cannabis increasingly intersects with the travel industry.

Those days are long gone, and the Luke Fickell experiment has been an unmitigated disaster. The man hired to inject life into the program has done the exact opposite.

He's 17-21 as the leader in Madison, and he now sits on the hottest seat in all of college football.

Wisconsin cranks up NIL spending after multiple terrible seasons.

While Wisconsin's official NIL spending numbers have never been public, there's long been the feeling among fans that not enough was happening. There needed to be significantly more commitment.

That now appears to be happening.

The Athletic reported this week that the Badgers are spending more than $25 million this year on its football roster. That's an elite number, and a clear shift in the thinking in Madison.

The outlet reported that the NIL spending for the 2026 season is more than double what it was in 2025, when the team went a pathetic 4-8.

Fickell's buyout is currently around $20 million, according to The Athletic, and he denied a one-year rolling extension after the disaster that was the 2025 season. It's now do-or-die for the former Cincy head coach.

"I wanted the guys to understand that too. My chips are pushed to the middle. We gotta burn the ships, burn the excuses, anything that’s going to hold us back. The only option is to push forward," the Wisconsin head coach told The Athletic.

LIV Golf reportedly canceling its finale makes CEO's comments about 'incredible' Saudis look wildly foolish

LIV Golf's team championship will reportedly not be taking place this season.

If you've been paying attention to the situation involving LIV Golf, this report of the season finale being canceled should come as no surprise. It also sums up just how dire things have become for the breakaway circuit, while simultaneously contradicting the messaging LIV CEO Scott O’Neil tried to sell to the golf world in June.

According to Flushing It Golf, the team championship in Michigan is expected to officially be canceled after "multiple contractors" told the account that their travel and accommodations have been canceled and that "money is also owed."

TRUMP WEIGHS IN ON LIV GOLF, PGA TOUR AFTER SAUDIS PULL FUNDING OF STARTUP LEAGUE

Flushing It's report comes just days after LIV golfer Martin Kaymer told Today's Golfer that the team championship scheduled for Aug. 27-30 was "highly unlikely" to take place.

LIV Golf was unreachable for comment regarding the report of the team championship being canceled. A source with knowledge of the situation shared with OutKick that LIV continues to have positive discussions with prospective investors for LIV Golf 2.0 while working to secure funding for the circuit's future and long-term sustainability.

PGA TOUR CEO SHARES JARRING COMMENTS ABOUT PLAYERS RETURNING AS LIV GOLF SAUDI FUNDING DISAPPEARS

The LIV team championship was supposed to offer a purse of $40 million, with $11.2 million going to the winning team. However, it is difficult to pay out that type of purse when you presumably have no money.

In April, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) officially announced that it would be cutting off its funding to LIV Golf. The PIF's statement explained that its funding would remain in place through the remainder of the 2026 season, but that does not appear to be the case with the reported cancellation of the season finale.

This new development of LIV potentially shutting its doors earlier than expected doesn't exactly support the claim O'Neil made during an appearance on CNBC on June 9 in which he hailed the Saudi PIF as an "incredible organization."

"I can say that they've been terrific partners so far," O'Neil began, referring to the Saudis funding LIV Golf. "You have to take an incredible organization like PIF at their word, and they've been very public about funding us through the season. We are full steam ahead, the players are locked in, the management team is locked in."

It was reported in early 2026 that LIV Golf's net spending per month averaged $100 million in 2024 and 2025. For the 2026 campaign, LIV's fifth, Saudi PIF Governor Yasir Al Rumayyan reportedly approved a $266.6 million capital injection into the circuit.

If the LIV team championship is indeed canceled, it would mark the second LIV event on the original calendar to be axed in 2026. The LIV New Orleans event scheduled for late June was originally postponed in April, and while a targeted date sometime in the fall has been rumored, it seems highly unlikely the circuit makes its way to Louisiana.

LIV's next scheduled event is set for Aug. 6-9 in New York before heading to Indianapolis from August 20-23.

Tony Romo treating his field sobriety test like an NFL combine leaves fans stunned

Tony Romo gave last week's field sobriety test all he had, newly released bodycam footage shows.

Unfortunately for Romo, it wasn't enough — at least for now.

The former NFL quarterback was arrested last week following a golf tournament in Wisconsin and charged with an OWI. Romo was initially pulled over for "unsafe passing" on a Milwaukee highway, told the officer he was coming from a golf course and insisted he had consumed "zero" drinks before asking to call his attorney.

When asked to step out of the vehicle, the current NFL CBS analyst responded, "Because I'm coming from a golf course, you think I'm drunk?"

Spicy! But, here's where the temp really cranks up ...

Police then detained Romo and transported him to a nearby station to conduct field sobriety tests, which, frankly, look like the hardest tasks in the world to complete, much less pass.

Romo, apparently, did NOT pass them given he was cuffed and detained shortly after, but it wasn't for a lack of trying.

"Sorry, two back surgeries, I need to stand here," Romo said before limbering up in a parking garage last week.

Amazing. Footage later showed Romo after performing the tests, which included the standard 'put one foot in front of the other and walk in a straight line.'

He appeared to do it just fine, but that wasn't the case.

"Did I pass this test?" he asked at one point before getting cuffed. "No I didn't, huh?"

Peak TV from Romo in that parking garage. I've given him a lot of crap over the years for his shtick in the booth, but this reeled me right back in. I've never seen a man get down on start to stretch like he's about to run the 40 before a sobriety test. Never in my life.

Credit to Romo for giving it his all, though. Some folks mail it in. Not Romo. If he's going to start a task, he's going to try and do it to the best of his ability. That's what four-time Pro Bowl quarterbacks do.

You play to win the game. A great man once said that, and it's true in all facets of life — not just sports. Romo's back was against the wall here after being stuffed in the back of a tiny police car on the drive over, and he needed to work up a quick sweat to get the juices flowing before the lights came on.

I get it. The guy had two back surgeries — as he told the other officers — and a slew of other injuries over a 14-year NFL career. You think he can just fire the engines on command anymore? Don't think so.

P.S.: I'm probably gonna take some flack for this, but whatever. I think Romo got railroaded here. He seems fine. I think he passed the tests with flying colors, and they still booked him.

"We did find a couple shooters," the officer told Romo in the garage after searching his car.

"Were they drank?" he asked. "I don't think any of them were drank."

Yeah, this case is far from over.

Romo was eventually cited for first-offense operating while intoxicated and refusing to submit to a chemical test. He was released and is due in court on Sept. 21.

Ruby Rippey, the woman whose affair with then-Mayor Gavin Newsom sparked a 2007 California political scandal, detailed the encounter step-by-step in a piece published Tuesday in Vanity Fair, while revealing the role former Vice President Kamala Harris played in advising her afterward.

Rippey, who was married to Newsom's campaign manager at the time, Alex Tourk, and who served as the mayor's appointments secretary, disclosed that Harris, who, at the time was the San Francisco District Attorney, privately advised Rippey to "pause" and refrain from public comment or taking a book deal as the scandal broke.

"She listens, then says simply: ‘I wouldn’t say anything right now, Ruby. Just pause. More time will give you better perspective,’" Rippey claims Harris told her after the affair became public.

Rippey disputes Newsom’s memoir, writing that it claims he was the one who "came clean" to her husband, a detail she says gives him credit for a confession she had already made. When she asked a Newsom advisor if the governor "tells the truth" in the book, he responded, "Well, we all remember things differently, don’t we, Ruby?"

Rippey described beginning the affair while working at City Hall, detailing encounters that included sitting in a hot tub together, spending nights in hotel rooms, and visiting his Russian Hill penthouse.

He is in the front seat. He takes one of my feet and begins to massage it, the gesture half-hidden inside the loud car."

Rippey described waking up beside Newsom the next morning, noting that while the encounters continued for months, they were fueled by addiction and status: "We meet and we drink. There is sex, but it isn’t the point. The point is proximity — to power, to being chosen, to feeling newly visible — no longer muted by pregnancy, by new motherhood, by the strain of white-knuckling long stretches of sobriety."

One comment she claims Newsom made came after the birth of her first child, when they met at a Mexican restaurant. He told her, "Hey — you look really good ... You’ve lost all your pregnancy weight."

Rippey notes that while she entered into the affair willingly, years later she realized the power imbalance may have played a role in the ordeal, adding that "power does not need to coerce. It only needs to exist."

After she decided to come clean to her husband in an email while he was still working for Newsom, Tourk confronted the mayor and immediately resigned. The affair erupted publicly shortly after, prompting Newsom to admit to the affair during a 2007 news conference and subsequently announce he would seek treatment for alcohol abuse.

A spokesperson for Newsom told Fox News Digital that the governor has long addressed the affair publicly and has moved on, writing, "The Governor acknowledged his role and publicly apologized nearly two decades ago when he was still mayor. In the time since, he met his wife, started a family, and has focused on serving Californians. He addressed this chapter of his life, including in his memoir, and out of respect for everyone involved, does not have anything further to add."

Joe Girardi, Shane Victorino to manage top high school baseball talent at Perfect Game All-American Classic

The Perfect Game All-American Classic will have some star power leading the way in the dugouts.

The world’s largest youth baseball and softball platform announced Wednesday that World Series champion Joe Girardi and former All-Star outfielder Shane Victorino will serve as managers. The game will take place Sunday, Aug. 16, at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

The All-American Classic will feature many of the nation’s top high school baseball players. Girardi, who won three World Series as a player during his 15-year career, and one as a manager of the New York Yankees, said it is a "thrill" to be part of the game.

"It's a thrill for me to be around so much young talent. I think the big leagues has a ton of young talent and this is going to give me an opportunity to see more and probably in like three or four years I'm going to say that young man in the big leagues I got a chance to manage him and I saw him when he was 17 years old, and you could just tell that he was going to be a big leaguer," Girardi told Fox News Digital in a recent interview.

"I'm really excited about that and just to be around so many great players and the biggest thing for me is that they go have fun and enjoy this and realize what they've accomplished so far, but this they're just scratching the surface."

The former Philadelphia Phillies manager said that he will tell the players they have a "gift."

"I would tell them they have a gift and that gift is baseball. And don't waste it. Put everything you have into getting better every day. Taking care of your body, taking care of your mind, making sure that you don't overwork, but you have to work. I mean, this is a game of repetition, and you have an opportunity to do something really, really special that so few people get a chance to do. And don't waste the effort," Girardi said.

Not only will the players have Girardi and Victorino to look to, but they will also be guided by a host of assistant coaches who starred in the major leagues. The coaching staff includes 1995 American League MVP Mo Vaughn, Hall of Fame pitcher Trevor Hoffman, All-Star outfielder Ryan Klesko, along with MLB veterans Todd Coffey, Denard Span and Jason Phillips.

Rounding out the coaching staff will be members of the 1993 Phillies National League championship team Milt Thompson and Ben Rivera, 2008 World Series champions Kyle Kendrick and Tom "Flash" Gordon, and 2010 and 2011 National League East champion Jose Contreras.

Also among the coaching staff is Girardi’s son, Dante.

"I also get to coach alongside my son, Dante, and that's really special for me because Dante has always loved the game since he was 5 years old. And we went through these Perfect Game events and I actually coached for his team FTB one year when I wasn't managing and went to the great Perfect Game events," Girardi said.

"We went to Atlanta and I remember building a bed in the back of the truck as we were driving around playing in different places. It's just really fond memories for me and it's going to create another great memory between my son and I. And I'm sure he'll have a lot of advice for me. Girardi guaranteed that one of the players in this game will be in an All-Star Game in the future.

The All-American Classic debuted in 2003, and since its inception, the game has featured some of the biggest names in Major League Baseball play in the event. Bryce Harper, Gunnar Henderson, Bobby Witt. Jr, Gerrit Cole and Francisco Lindor are among the star players who have played in the game over the years.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday morning issued a profanity-laced threat against Iran after the Islamic regime launched a surprise missile strike on U.S. forces in Jordan overnight.

"We're going to beat the f---ing s--- out of them," Trump told Fox News chief foreign correspondent Trey Yingst.

"We'll be hitting them hard," the president said of Iran. "They're going to get a beating."

Trump said the American forces in Jordan had just minutes to respond and shoot down the incoming Iranian ballistic missiles. The president added that he reviewed video showing U.S. personnel calling out coordinates in real time during the interceptions.

U.S. Central Command said all Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired ballistic missiles at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base and the headquarters of the U.S. military’s Central Command in Jordan, the paramilitary force said in a statement carried by Iran's state-run IRNA news agency.

Jordan’s military said five Iranian missiles had been intercepted and destroyed. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

RUBIO ACCUSES IRAN OF FLYING IRGC PERSONNEL INTO YEMEN AS HOUTHI THREAT ESCALATES

The U.S. military later announced that American and Saudi fighter aircraft had struck multiple Iran-backed Shiite logistics and weapons sites in eastern Iraq in response to alleged drone attacks on Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Defense Ministry warned that it "does not seek escalation but will respond to any aggression."

Trump told Fox News that the overnight U.S.-Saudi strikes against Iran-backed Shiite militias in Iraq were coordinated with the Iraqi government.

He called the militias a "cancer on the world" and said additional warnings against Iranian proxies were under consideration.

Despite the flare-up, Trump said that talks with Iran will continue.

Yesterday was a long day. I did manage to get outside a couple of times and show my respect for summer as the temperature here crept up into the 90s, but I was worn out by the time dinner rolled around.

I don't know if I didn’t properly prepare for my relief appearance or what. But today's a new day, hump day, and I'm going to give today's edition of Screencaps all I have on this summer day at the end of July.

We're going to take a page from Livvy Dunne's playbook by making difficult things look easy, or something like that.

The former athlete turned model did some Baywatch promotion on Tuesday on social media with an announcement in the iconic red one-piece. She wrote, "It’s a tough job @baywatch."

Now, because I'm down with the younger generation, I know tough has more than one meaning, and I'm sure that's what Livvy meant. But I'm choosing to turn the viral post into a bit of inspiration here.

That shouldn’t be too hard to do. We're talking about a three-time MLB All-Star who has four Sports Illustrated Swimsuit editions to her name. That all came from viral TikToks and a collegiate gymnastics career.

I've never sent meat before so here's our latest spun up chicken. Biggest of the summer at almost six pounds. We've found it's a fairly hassle-free way to have a great meal and it doesn't heat up our non-AC house.

I had a great one-day summer outing in my Bronco with my neighbor who drove his Jeep. Did 100 miles on gravel and sometimes barely there roads over three Idaho mountain passes. The photos are Antelope Pass (9,000 feet) looking east, heading into Copper Basin, and a side trip up Wildhorse Creek. We had a great reminder to be prepared as we ran into a 12 inch aspen tree that fell across the track at about 50 miles in. This isn't the kind of landscape where you can just drive around it so we took out our chainsaw and cut her up. It's remote too as we didn't pass or meet another truck until hitting Copper Basin at about 60 miles in. Super day; even caught four cutthroat on a dry fly.

Okay, as a forty-year veteran of the news business - reporter, editor, columnist - and someone who taught an upper-division journalism course at a prestigious university, here's what I don't get about this whole ESPN v Outkick v The Athletic situation regarding former on-air talent Ryan Clark:

When Outkick called for comment, reportedly ESPN reached out to a reporter at The Athletic as the ESPN brass apparently dislikes Outkick and preferred The Athletic get the scoop.

And here's where I'm lost.

Isn't ESPN a sports news outlet? And isn't The Athletic are least somewhat competition to ESPN?

Why not have your OWN staff report on it?

I survived numerous rounds of layoffs at the newspaper I worked at longest and, to be fair, our company almost never covered them all that well (although we surely never fed the announcement to a favored competitor!). We'd have a short article the next day announcing the total number of layoffs, and a canned response from the publisher about how valued these employees were. (And his sentiments weren't faked - I knew the publisher, and it tore him up having to let people go. But the advertising model was in free fall and he couldn't spend money he didn't have.)

But I don't believe we ever named those who were let go. That was left to the local alternative outlets, who'd start bombarding everyone at our paper to find out who was let go.

Other papers across the country have done the same: announce the layoffs, not the names.

I get the desire to protect your laid off folks from public embarrassment - getting laid off sucks. Been there, trust me.

But when it is patently obvious that the details ARE going to become public, isn't it better to make that announcement yourself? Take away some of the breathless drama which I'm guessing is even more embarrassing?

If there are actual privacy laws surrounding this so that the company doing the layoffs is legally prohibited from naming names, that I can understand. But I've yet to see anyone ever say that on the record. "We had to eliminate 10 jobs today, but privacy laws prevent us from telling you who they are."

Instead, the competition begins poring over future editions to see which bylines have disappeared. Or, in broadcast, whose shows or slots are gone.

The fact is, under defamation law, anyway (which obviously differs from privacy law), most journalists can be considered limited public figures. They carry influence in their market, and their work can be fairly criticized to a level other professions cannot because journalists are considered to have willingly entered into the public arena in a way, say, a sales executive or mechanic has not.

So Ford not naming the factory workers being laid off makes more sense to me than ESPN not naming the on-air talent whose jobs were eliminated.

Screencaps Nation is large and well-connected - perhaps the 90 percent or more of your readers who are smarter than me can explain this. (For the handful who are NOT smarter than me: Good lord, people, who gets you dressed in the morning?)

Trump's evolving China rhetoric raises eyebrows over TikTok strategy amid scorching election meddling warning

President Donald Trump is striking a noticeably softer tone toward China just days after delivering a public address to the nation accusing Beijing of "sinister election meddling."

The fresh set of accusations levied on July 16 raised new questions about the Trump administration's posture towards China, especially as it moves to keep TikTok operating in the U.S. while warning against the hostility of the world power against America.

"President Trump just told the nation that China tried to influence the 2020 election and weaken his presidency. During that same year, the intelligence community identified TikTok as a primary vector of CCP influence in the United States," Hudson Institute Senior Fellow Michael Sobolik, who specializes in U.S.–China relations, told Fox News Digital.

"Beijing still controls the algorithm, which means that the very dangers Trump raised persist today," Sobolik added.

Trump has long taken a hard line on China, using tariffs, trade pressure and national security warnings to frame Beijing as one of America's chief adversaries.

In his recent address to the nation, the president accused the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) of running a "sinister" campaign to interfere in U.S. elections and influence Americans and undermine his presidency.

Yet just five days later, on July 21, Trump suggested "China is maybe a little bit different today." It struck a softer tone that falls more in line with the president's backing of a deal to keep TikTok operating in the U.S., despite seeking during his first term and at the start of his second to force the app out over national security concerns.

"The CCP hasn’t changed. Xi Jinping hasn’t changed. But President Trump has," Soblik detailed.

"He’s much more conciliatory toward China in his second term than he was in his first. He risks telegraphing significant weakness to Xi by letting China off the hook."

Trump downplayed Beijing's past election interference, suggesting both countries engage in similar tactics and indicating he was more focused on future negotiations than revisiting China's actions.

TRUMP’S UPBEAT CHINA MESSAGE COLLIDES WITH DEEPENING BEIJING RIVALRY

"It took place a long time ago. I think China is maybe a little bit different today than it was then," Trump conceded.

"But look there, they do things and we do things to them. I'll be honest — do we do things to them too? It's not a one-way street, but we'll be talking to them," said Trump when speaking about Chinese election meddling days after his "free and fair elections" televised remarks.

Sobolik argued the softened rhetoric could embolden Beijing to continue attempts to influence U.S. politics in the future.

In his first term, Trump sought to ban TikTok, saying it posed a national security risk. Then, during his second term, Trump joined the app, and in recent weeks, so have his top Cabinet members.

"President Trump has saved TikTok for its millions of American users — yet another promise made, promise kept," White House spokesperson Olivia Wales told Fox News Digital. "With the new TikTok under the control of U.S. investors, Americans can continue to enjoy TikTok with their data fully protected."

TikTok’s ownership deal was reconstructed at the beginning of this year to have majority U.S. ownership while still giving Chinese technology company ByteDance a 19.9% stake – 0.01% below the threshold required under U.S. law.

While the app is based in the U.S., Sobolik said that TikTok's algorithm remains under ByteDance’s control via a licensing regime.

"The fact that it’s training on U.S. data stored on servers in America doesn’t change the fundamental reality that a Chinese Communist Party-controlled company still controls the algorithm itself," said Sobolik. "The administration hasn’t directly addressed the possibility that Beijing could calibrate the app’s algorithm in concerning ways."

Trump visited China in May for a high-stakes summit with President Xi Jinping on several of the biggest pressure points in the U.S.-China relationship — from trade and Taiwan to AI and human rights. Those meetings appeared to end without firm public breakthroughs.

In his final meeting with Xi at the summit, Trump touted what he called "fantastic trade deals."

Sobolik said Trump "wants what he’s always wanted with China," which is a trade deal.

"He needs to think broader and bigger. Economic competition is one part of the larger new cold war that’s playing out between Washington and Beijing," he said.

Sobolik said Trump is placing too much emphasis on trade while overlooking other important areas of competition with China.

"Xi will have the advantage," he added.

Trump said Xi will be visiting the U.S. on Sept. 24, with artificial intelligence expected to be a key topic during their talks.

Tuesday's pregame scene made the league's broader embrace of transgender inclusion impossible to miss while putting Cunningham, one of its few dissenting voices, in the spotlight.

The WNBA has long viewed itself as the vanguard of progressive sports leagues, consistently embracing social activism while leaving little room for dissenting views.

The controversy began after ESPN published a profile on Cunningham in which the Fever guard addressed the backlash she has received for defending women's sports.

Cunningham pushed back on critics who have accused her of being anti-trans.

"I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I'm like, 'I never once said that,'" Cunningham said. "I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."

When reporters later asked whether she still stood by those comments, Cunningham didn't waver.

"I said what I said," Cunningham told reporters ahead of a recent matchup against the Connecticut Sun. "I think it's kind of common sense." She pointed to Title IX as protecting female athletes.

"It's really important to protect children. And that's little girls who are also involved in that category."

Addressing accusations of bigotry, she added: "I extend love, and I don't dislike anyone... but I'm also there to love biological women. And I think that there are rights that need to be protected."

Within the WNBA, defending biological women has become an increasingly lonely stance.

The WNBA Players Association has publicly supported trans inclusion, while former Fever teammate Brianna Turner has argued that restrictions on biological males distract from broader structural inequities.

Against that backdrop, Cunningham has become one of the league's few prominent players willing to publicly challenge the prevailing view on transgender participation in women's sports.

She has given voice to athletes who argue protecting women's sports is about fairness, not hatred.

Whether intentional or not, Dolson's shirt sharply contrasted with Cunningham's recent comments and reflected the league's broader embrace of transgender inclusion.

"Trans Rights are Human Rights" has become a common rallying cry for pro-trans advocates.

By celebrating Dolson while treating Cunningham's defense of Title IX as controversial, the Storm's official channels highlighted what critics see as a glaring double standard.

The Fever organization attempted to strike a middle ground, issuing a statement noting that its players are "thoughtful adults with their own perspectives and voices."

The contrast couldn't have been clearer. Dolson's message reflected the prevailing stance embraced by many within the WNBA. Cunningham has emerged as one of the league's few active players willing to publicly challenge it.

Kohberger defense expert wants his lawyers under oath after killer cites findings in bid to undo guilty plea

FIRST ON FOX - A forensic expert formerly retained by Bryan Kohberger's defense wants the admitted killer’s former lawyers on the witness stand amid a push to renege on his guilty plea in the murders of four University of Idaho students.

"Everybody involved needs to be put under oath, starting with Anne Taylor and her legal team," defense expert Brent Turvey told Fox News Digital.

Kohberger pleaded guilty in July 2025 to murdering Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves in Moscow, Idaho, in November 2022. He was sentenced to four consecutive life terms without parole and an additional 10 years for burglary.

Kohberger recently filed a petition for post-conviction relief seeking to undo his guilty pleas. He alleges he was coerced into accepting the plea agreement and that his attorneys failed to communicate potentially exculpatory evidence. The petition references hair evidence recovered during the investigation.

The hairs were found under where Chapin’s right hand was photographed in Kernodle’s bed, affixed to the frame by dried blood. It’s the side of the bed that was touching the wall.

Shortly before sentencing, Turvey examined the state’s evidence and saw that it was still present on the bed frame. There is a photo.

In terms of color, the hairs are a mix of light and dark brown.

By a rough estimate, there are more than two dozen visible strands. Although there are no measurements for reference in the photo, the strands appear to be between three and four inches.

Turvey, a forensic scientist and senior partner at Forensic Solutions LLC who has testified at more than 70 trials, found the hair when he traveled to Moscow, Idaho, to review evidence in person.

"The FBI lab said Kohberger is excluded," Turvey told Fox News Digital. "This is not his hair."

It remains unclear who the strands belonged to or whether all of them were tested. Fox News Digital has not independently reviewed the complete laboratory documentation underlying Turvey’s statement.

The hairs were first publicly described in Christopher Whitcomb’s book "Broken Plea," which Kohberger referenced in a new New York Times interview. Kohberger also mentioned the hairs specifically in his petition for post-conviction relief.

Turvey said Kohberger's latest filing raises broader questions that extend beyond the hair evidence, arguing the court should closely examine the former criminology student's allegations that he was coerced into pleading guilty and received ineffective legal representation.

Turvey said Kohberger's claims "need to be taken seriously and investigated by the court."

"Not just why she attacked her own experts for revealing the possibility of the exculpatory material — but for failing to respond to another expert that is out there claiming he's guilty and that he knew it from the start."

Turvey has had a public rift with Kohberger’s former defense team. Taylor and two co-counsel previously accused him of violating a confidentiality agreement and said they were "appalled" by his public comments, while Turvey denied disclosing confidential information.

Fox News Digital reached out to Taylor for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

Shanon Gray, an attorney representing the family of victim Kaylee Goncalves, disputed the significance of the evidence.

"If he's talking about the hairs, that's not exculpatory evidence," Gray told Fox News Digital.

Gray noted the defense had long been aware of the evidence.

"The defense had that evidence. And someone was gonna testify about it," Gray said. "The other glaring issue is that all that proves is that there could've been another person, not that he wasn't present."

New York wants to govern Iowa and Missouri — we're suing to stop it cold

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis famously called the states "laboratories of democracy." In those laboratories, Iowans shape Iowa’s laws, Missourians make Missouri’s laws, and New Yorkers establish New York’s laws. That is a core tenet of federalism — a structural part of our nation’s Constitution that allows for great variation and competition between the states. What a state can’t do, however, is lay claim to the entire country as its laboratory.

That’s exactly what New York is trying to do. Its new greenhouse gas reporting rule requires "fuel suppliers" throughout the nation to register with New York and report information related to greenhouse gas emissions. But the rule doesn’t just concern companies doing business in the Empire State. New York has made clear that its new regulation applies to any ethanol and biodiesel producers whose product may, after being blended or sold by others, eventually end up in New York. In short, New York expects out-of-state producers and distributors to comply with its civil and criminal rules, even if the connection to the state is extremely remote or hypothetical.

This includes producers and distributors in our states — Iowa and Missouri. Together, we represent the nation’s leading producers of ethanol and biodiesel. Our states’ energy economies support millions of farmers, workers, families, and communities. New York’s rule would impose significant compliance costs, reporting obligations, inspections, civil penalties, and even criminal liabilities on businesses operating far from the Empire State.

The issue is not whether New York can create environmental rules for itself: of course it may. Rather, it is whether one state can force citizens, farmers, manufacturers, and businesses in other states to abide by its regulatory program.

Our states have made different policy choices for greenhouse gas regulation. Iowa has not chosen to impose New York-style radical reporting mandates on every fuel producer or supplier. Missouri has similarly refrained from adopting extreme greenhouse gas reporting requirements. Those choices belong to our citizens and their elected representatives. New York may disagree with them, but it cannot override them.

If every state had the right to regulate all others, the result would not be federalism: It would be chaos. Imagine if Iowa sought to regulate how financial institutions operate in New York to counter downstream effects in Iowa, and Missouri sought to regulate technology companies in California for similar reasons.

This sounds crazy, but such regulatory chaos has already started to seep into our federal system. California and Massachusetts regulate how hog farmers around the country operate. California has a greenhouse gas disclosure law requiring large companies doing business there to report emissions and climate-related information, including out-of-state operations and even emissions in the entire supply chain. New York and Vermont have enacted "climate superfund" laws seeking to charge companies for past contributions to alleged climate-related harms. And Boulder, Colorado, claims international energy companies Exxon and Suncor are liable for alleged harms stemming from worldwide greenhouse gas emissions — which the Supreme Court will hear arguments on this fall.

Together, these scenarios reflect a troubling trend: If a policy goal seems big enough, some states think they can reach beyond their borders to solve it.

The Supreme Court has long recognized that one state cannot govern the citizens of another state. Each state is equal under the Constitution, and none has special privileges over any other. That limitation is one of the basic conditions that makes our federal system possible, and New York cannot ignore it.

Federalism protects individual rights. Among other benefits, individuals can remove elected officials who don’t respect their rights by expressing their preferences in legislative and gubernatorial elections — and influencing national laws through their representatives in Congress. And at the state level, federalism provides another powerful mechanism to check government excess. Anyone who doesn’t like a state’s laws and isn’t satisfied with their electoral recourse can move out of that state.

But if New York officials impose costly and unwanted policies on Iowans and Missourians, we cannot vote New Yorkers out of office. Our residents cannot even "vote with their feet" to another state to escape this terrible nationwide policy. In short, we cannot hold New York accountable for its extraterritorial regulation. Empire State politicians seek local benefits for their performative actions but export the burdens to people who have no voice in making them.

With support from the Center for Individual Rights, Iowa, Missouri, and a free-market business association, AmFree, have teamed up to protect our liberties and our federal system. We’re challenging New York’s greenhouse gas reporting rule in federal court in Missouri to enforce a basic constitutional boundary: One state’s authority ends where another state’s sovereignty begins.

Our lawsuit doesn’t turn on who cares the most about the environment. Iowans and Missourians care deeply. Our farmers, fuel producers, and agribusinesses have powerful incentives to use resources efficiently, innovate, and compete. Biofuels are an important part of America’s energy independence. New York can control its own policy, but not that of the rest of the nation.

This is federalism. It’s our American way and it is worth defending.

Lindsay Clancy’s ex-husband details pill use as expert says evidence could shape murder trial

Prosecutors appeared to begin chipping away at the defense’s portrayal of Lindsay Clancy as overmedicated, walking jurors through nine prescription bottles that still contained many of the pills she had been given.

Patrick Clancy testified Monday that his ex-wife had been prescribed numerous psychiatric medications in the months before the deaths of their three young children. But under questioning from Assistant District Attorney Shanan Buckingham, he acknowledged that several prescriptions had only been partly used.

"So there were a lot of pills prescribed, but not a lot of pills taken. Correct?" Buckingham asked, holding up a bag of prescription medications.

"Is that comprehensive?" Patrick responded. "Of all the pills that were prescribed?"

"These are the pills that you brought into the police station," Buckingham said. "So out of these."

"Out of those, yeah," Patrick said. "It’s possible that not a lot were taken."

Buckingham also sought to distinguish between the total number of medications prescribed over several months and how many Lindsay was prescribed at one time.

Patrick estimated that she was taking three or four medications at most. Buckingham then asked whether it would surprise him to learn that Lindsay was prescribed no more than three medications at any given time and usually two.

"It wouldn’t be terribly surprising, no," Patrick said.

Former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani said the questioning appeared designed to prevent the defense from controlling how jurors view the cocktail of medications that Lindsay Clancy was prescribed in the months before authorities say she strangled Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, inside the family’s Duxbury home in January 2023.

"An important part of being a good prosecutor is not just proving your case, but anticipating the defense’s arguments," Rahmani, president of West Coast Trial Lawyers, told Fox News Digital. "The prosecution wants to get out ahead of that potentially bad evidence by arguing that even though she was prescribed all these meds, she wasn't prescribed them at the same time. At most, she was prescribed two, three, maybe four medications at once and, importantly, she wasn't taking them."

Rahmani said prosecutors appeared to be getting ahead of the defense’s claim that Lindsay’s changing prescriptions contributed to her alleged psychosis.

"The last thing you want is the defense to gain control of the key piece of evidence," he said. "It can be O.J.’s glove or a bag of pills."

Rahmani said the next phase will likely focus on how long Lindsay took each medication, when she stopped taking it and how many drugs she was prescribed at once.

"It’s not uncommon for psychiatrists to try different medications and stop them when they stop working," he said. "So how long was she on the Zoloft versus the Ativan versus the Seroquel? How many pills was she taking? I think the prosecution is gonna argue that Lindsay and her doctors were trying to get her better, and the fact that she wasn't on all these pills at once really shows that the defense is trying to mislead the jury."

The defense has argued that Lindsay was suffering from psychosis and was not criminally responsible when she strangled her three young children. Prosecutors, meanwhile, framed the mom of three as a calculated killer, saying that Clancy's children were "deliberately and meticulously killed."

Buckingham alleged that Clancy deliberately sent Patrick from their Duxbury home to pick up medication and takeout food, giving herself enough time to strangle each child with an exercise band before attempting to kill herself.

During opening statements, defense attorney Kevin Reddington conceded that Clancy killed the children but argued that the only meaningful dispute is what was happening inside her mind.

"She knows that she killed these children," Reddington told jurors. "The issue for consideration is what was going on in that woman’s mind."

Clancy, a former labor and delivery nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital, has pleaded not guilty to three counts each of murder and strangulation.

A Michigan mother of six had just returned from the trip of a lifetime when her recently unemployed husband killed the entire family and then himself, authorities say, and newly released 911 dispatch audio captures the inferno he left behind.

Six children and two adults were found dead inside a Grand Haven Township home Friday after crews responded to a house fire, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said. All eight had gunshot wounds, turning the case into a suspicious death investigation.

Officials on Monday identified the adults as Kristopher Karolkiewicz, 47, and Amanda Karolkiewicz, 39. Authorities did not name the children but said they were four boys ages 15, 12, 11 and 5 and two girls, both 11. Two of the children were adopted.

The sheriff's office identified the father and husband, Kristopher Karolkiewicz, as the suspect in the murder-suicide.

A beach photo of her and her husband, arms wrapped around each other. And the kids, all six, turning up again and again in the everyday moments most parents live for.

"After about a year of self-loathing I remember crying and looking at myself in the mirror and realizing how f---ed up it was that I was the one who was living so miserably because of what he did," she allegedly wrote.

Mandy made frequent posts on the "AsOneAfterInfidelity" Reddit, writing that she couldn't stomach the idea of leaving him.

"We have six kids, so the idea of leaving is insanely terrifying," Mandy allegedly wrote. "He’s always had major red flags that I ignored due to my own trauma and anxious attachment."

The couple had been married 17 years when they were found dead, along with their children, in their Grand Haven home.

Kristopher Karolkiewicz worked at the American Heart Association until July 2026, when his employment ended, according to a spokesperson for the organization.

"The American Heart Association is aware that one of its former staff members was among those who perished under tragic circumstances last week in a western Michigan home. Kristopher Karolkiewicz was an employee of the American Heart Association from September of 2023 until earlier this month, July 2026, when his employment ended," the spokesman said. "During his time with our organization, he served as a national vice president of sales and marketing, supporting the division of the Heart Association responsible for CPR and first aid training and products."

"As an organization with professional staff who are dedicated to helping others, we are devastated by the news out of Michigan, and our thoughts are with the loved ones of those who lost their lives in this tragedy," he continued.

Authorities said Karolkiewicz started the fire in numerous places throughout the house after carrying out the murders.

"The cause and origin of the residential fire remains under investigation by Michigan State Police arson investigators. However, preliminary indications are that the fire was intentionally set in numerous places throughout the interior of the residence. The family pets also perished due to the fire/smoke," the sheriff's office said in a press release.

The Grand Haven Fire Department initially responded to reports of people being able to smell smoke in that area between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Friday, but firefighters couldn't locate a fire.

Dispatch audio obtained by Fox News Digital indicated that the house was "full of smoke" that could be seen coming out the windows.

Just before 11:45 a.m., officials returned to the 14900 block of Riverside Trail after receiving reports of white smoke coming from a home there.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said there are no additional suspects.
