SEN RICK SCOTT: Americans work five days a week, why can’t the Senate?

Did you know the US Senate has only been in session 79 days (about 40% of the time) so far this year? And so far, we haven’t passed anything to secure our elections, reduce inflation, cut spending, or prevent another Democrat shutdown.

Well, what isn’t shocking is the fact nothing has gotten done while we only work 2.5 days out of the week. It is crazy. At the slow rate we are getting stuff done, we should be working 7 days.

Let’s just take a status update: The Senate has yet to deliver on several of our key promises to the American people this year, including securing our elections through the SAVE America Act.

TRUMP HOLDS WASHINGTON HOSTAGE OVER SAVE ACT AS MIDTERM CLOCK TICKS ON GOP CONTROL

As I noted in a recent letter to my Senate colleagues. Republicans, Democrats, and Independents overwhelmingly want voter ID for elections and only Americans to be able to register for elections, the main components of the SAVE America Act.

Yet the Senate still hasn’t passed it — or even agreed on how to proceed on it. To fix this, we need to change how we do business.

The job of a Senator used to be to arrive in Washington to debate, vote on, and accomplish all our agenda items before we allowed ourselves to go home.

Sadly, that’s no longer the case. In recent decades, under the leadership of both Democrats and Republicans, the Senate has worked less and less, and Americans felt the consequences of the legislature’s lack of urgency.

Right now, we take fewer than 10 votes a week. We arrive late Monday to vote and leave as soon as possible on Thursday afternoon. The Senate is rarely in session on Fridays and almost never works over the weekend — even when pressing deadlines approach on issues critical to the safety, security, and stability of the American people.

And it’s not just election security that is at stake. We still need to fund the government to prevent another open-borders Democrat shutdown. We need to cut spending to reduce interest rates and inflation that are wreaking havoc on American budgets.

America is the greatest country in the world. We have the strongest economy because of the workers who bust their butts every day to do their jobs, provide for their families, and achieve the American Dream.

I think the Senate should demonstrate the kind of work ethic we depend on from the American people to keep our economy running. We have so many policies to enact before election day this November. If we still have work to do, then why do we only show up 2.5 days a week?

Our situation is not a failure by any one party or individual, it’s a problem that’s been getting progressively worse for decades. Congress is decreasingly productive every year because we leave to go home on Thursday when there is still work to do.

I’m sure we would all love to be home with our families as much as possible — every American probably feels that way — but that’s not the job we all asked our constituents to elect us to do. It’s certainly not the job that I promised the people of Florida. I told them I’d work as hard as I can to help them achieve the American Dream, stay safe, and live free.

Time is short. Getting all of this done before November would mean staying in Washington until we figure out how to deliver it. It would mean sitting down and working together to find solutions, instead of throwing up our hands and going home.

We can’t take "no" for an answer, and we can’t stop just because it’s hard.

To that end, I will be going directly to the Senate floor over the coming weeks to bring up policies that I ran on when I asked Floridians to vote for me.

Let’s fix the problem. Let’s stop flying home on Thursday after lunch, start voting more, and make good on our promises. That’s what the American people deserve.

Flying sneaker gets Liberty star ejected in bizarre finish that leaves WNBA fans in disbelief

You don't see many games swing because of a flying sneaker, but that's exactly what happened in the WNBA on Sunday.

New York Liberty guard Betnijah Laney-Hamilton was tossed from a tight 93-91 loss to the Toronto Tempo after pegging opponent Marina Mabrey in the back with a stray shoe.

The flying sneaker couldn't have come at a worse time, derailing New York's furious comeback after the Liberty entered the fourth quarter down 16.

The chaos started late in the fourth when Jonquel Jones lost her sneaker. Laney-Hamilton tried to throw it back to her teammate, but it instead smacked an unsuspecting Mabrey in the back.

Laney-Hamilton had already been mixing it up with Mabrey earlier in the game, including one exchange that earned her a Flagrant 1 foul.

When the shoe struck Mabrey, officials hit Laney-Hamilton with a technical foul and ejected her.

Laney-Hamilton defended herself after the final buzzer, insisting it was nothing more than a terrible throw.

"I would never intentionally try to hit someone with a shoe, especially while they're not looking," Laney-Hamilton said.

"Teammate was without a shoe, so I did my best to try and get it to her. Unfortunately, it did hit someone. I know just by the way that things were going throughout the game that it can look a certain way, but that's just not something that I would personally do, especially in a moment like that where the game is on the line."

Mabrey took the high road after the win, laughing off the fact that she got drilled by a flying sneaker.

"I had to take a couple breaths," Mabrey said. "But I think she was really just trying to get the shoe back to JJ. But I'll take the free throw. I'm working on not being rage-baited."

While the players kept it cool, Liberty head coach Chris DeMarco absolutely lost his mind over the game-altering whistle.

"I've never seen anything like that," DeMarco said. "We had all the momentum in the world. A shoe hit somebody. Ejected, free throws. I've also never seen a ref make such an atrocious call when he's on the other side of the floor. She was trying to get the shoe back to Jones; it hit somebody. I think we're just making stuff up. I have no idea. You're asking the wrong person, okay? It was just an atrocious, atrocious end of that game from the officials."

I know how important Main Street grocery stores are to America, because I grew up in one

I come from a family of grocers. For generations, my family ran a neighborhood grocery store in New Orleans, the kind of place where you knew your customers by name, where the produce came in fresh that morning, and where the store was as much a part of the community as the church down the street or the school around the corner. That store didn't survive Hurricane Katrina in 2005. But what it stood for never left me. A grocery store isn't just a place to buy food. It's a cornerstone of the community it serves.

Today, I have the privilege of standing alongside independent grocers in every corner of the country: in big-city neighborhoods, in the suburbs and in small, rural towns where the local grocer is one of the last anchors keeping Main Street alive. In too many of those communities, the nearest alternative is an hour away. When that store closes, a town loses far more than a place to buy groceries.

So, as our nation just celebrated our 250th birthday, it is worth asking a bigger question: What kind of America do we want? I believe we want an America of opportunity, a country where a family can build a business, pass it down and compete on the strength of its service, its quality and its price. That is the American Dream, which looks a little different in every town, and it is something worth protecting.

On July 8, Walmart announced price cuts on thousands of grocery and household items, and President Donald Trump praised the move as coming at his administration's request to mark America's 250th birthday, encouraging other retailers to follow suit. Independent grocers welcome the president's efforts, because lowering the cost of feeding a family is a goal we share.

However, I believe free, open and truly competitive markets are the key to driving efficiency throughout the food supply chain and, ultimately, driving down prices for consumers. Free and competitive markets are a cornerstone of the American economy. Even President Theodore Roosevelt recognized that when too much market power is concentrated in the hands of a few, competition suffers — as do consumers, workers and communities.

Independent grocers prove every day that competition works. They deliver exceptional value, fresh produce, quality meat and deli offerings, personalized service and a shopping experience rooted in relationships. They invest in local farmers and suppliers, support schools and charities and reinvest in the communities where they live and work. And a level playing field isn't just good policy, it's critical to ensuring America's Main Street businesses can continue to innovate and thrive. A strong Main Street is good for consumers, good for communities, and good for America.

But markets only stay free and fair when the basic rules of competition are respected. When a handful of dominant players grow large enough to tilt the field in their favor, securing pricing and terms no one else can get, not because they are more efficient or better operators but simply because of their size, competition stops working the way it should.

They use that leverage to squeeze suppliers for better terms even though at the end of the day independents are buying in truckload quantities. And when the guardrails meant to keep the marketplace fair go unenforced, as they too often have over the years, it is Main Street that pays the price.

Independent grocers are not asking for special treatment, and we are not looking for a handout. We are asking for a fair fight, the same shot at success this country has always promised to anyone willing to work for it.

Give independent grocers that fair shot, and they will keep doing what they have always done: serve their neighbors, create good jobs and pour themselves back into the towns they call home. Heart condition tied to Lindsey Graham's death can strike without warning — what to know

New details surrounding Sen. Lindsey Graham's sudden death have drawn attention to a cardiovascular emergency that can become fatal within minutes.

On Sunday, a statement released by Graham's office cited preliminary findings from the District of Columbia's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, identifying the cause of death as an aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Authorities said Graham, 71, was transported to George Washington University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:23 p.m. Saturday. An autopsy was completed Sunday.

Fox News Digital reached out to Graham's office requesting comment.

What is an aortic dissection?

An aortic dissection is a life-threatening medical emergency in which a tear develops in the inner layer of the aorta — the body's largest artery, according to Mayo Clinic.

Blood rushes through the tear and causes the layers of the aortic wall to separate, which can disrupt blood flow to vital organs or lead to a fatal rupture if not treated immediately.

"It occurs when the layers of the aorta come apart and the inner one tears," Fox News senior medical analyst Dr. Marc Siegel, who did not treat Graham, told Fox News Digital.

"It can come on in minutes or days and may be hard to recognize," he added, noting that while dissections can evolve over time, symptoms often appear suddenly.

Dr. Kenneth Perry, an emergency physician based in South Carolina, said the best way to visualize the condition is to think of the aorta as a hose.

"The wall of the hose has multiple layers to it, and if the layers separate, the water can no longer pass down the regular opening in the tube," Perry, who also was not involved in Graham's care, told Fox News Digital. "Often, this starts as a very small tear that keeps progressing because of the water pressure."

"The same thing is happening in the aorta," he went on. "The small tear in the wall of the aorta continues to progress, usually from severely elevated blood pressure."

As the tear continues past the smaller arteries coming from the aorta, blood can no longer flow from the heart to the other organs.

"This causes the organs that need that blood to die from lack of oxygen," Perry said. "The only way to survive such a diagnosis is very early identification and strict blood pressure control with emergent operative management."

Aortic dissection is relatively rare, affecting an estimated three to four people per 100,000 each year, according to Cleveland Clinic.

What causes an aortic dissection?

In Graham's case, the preliminary findings cited arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease. This condition is most commonly associated with atherosclerosis, in which plaque builds up inside the arteries, causing them to harden and narrow.

Over time, this process can weaken the wall of the aorta, increasing the risk of an aortic dissection.

High-risk groups

Arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease can develop over time and is driven by several factors, according to the American Heart Association and Mayo Clinic. Some of the groups at highest risk include the following.

People with uncontrolled high blood pressure (hypertension), which places constant stress on the aortic wall
Older adults, particularly those in their 60s and 70s
Men, who are diagnosed more often than women
People with atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) or other cardiovascular disease
Those with an aortic aneurysm, which weakens the wall of the aorta
People born with certain heart defects, such as a bicuspid aortic valve
Those with inherited connective tissue disorders, including Marfan syndrome, Loeys-Dietz syndrome and vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome
Smokers and people with longstanding high cholesterol, both of which contribute to artery damage
People with diabetes and obesity
Those who are physically inactive and/or eat an unhealthy diet

Warning signs you should never ignore

Symptoms of an aortic dissection can come on suddenly and often mimic those of a heart attack or stroke, experts say.

Anyone experiencing any of the below warning signs should call 911 for immediate emergency medical care, according to Siegel and other health experts.

Sudden, severe chest or upper back pain, often described as tearing, ripping or stabbing, which may spread to the neck or back
Shortness of breath
Sudden, severe abdominal pain
Loss of consciousness (fainting)
Stroke-like symptoms, such as sudden vision changes, difficulty speaking, weakness or numbness on one side of the body
Leg pain or difficulty walking

"Aortic dissection is one of the diseases that emergency physicians think of often when someone presents with chest pain — specifically pain described as a tearing sensation, with elevated blood pressure," Perry told Fox News Digital.

"We often describe the aortic dissection patient as appearing to have a ‘kidney stone of the chest,’ — meaning they have severe pain and cannot get comfortable, similar to kidney stone patients."

Diagnosis and treatment

Early diagnosis and treatment greatly improve the chances of survival for those who have suffered an aortic dissection.

Doctors typically diagnose an aortic dissection using imaging tests, including a CT scan, transesophageal echocardiogram (ultrasound), magnetic resonance angiography (MRI-based scan) and chest X-ray, per Mayo Clinic.

The condition requires immediate medical treatment, which will depend on which part of the aorta is affected.

Type A dissections involve the ascending (upper) aorta near the heart, which typically require emergency surgery.

Type B dissections affect the descending (lower) aorta farther from the heart, according to Mayo Clinic. These may be treated with medications to lower blood pressure and heart rate, although some may also require surgery or a stent.

Those who survive the event will generally need lifelong blood pressure management and regular imaging to monitor the aorta, per the above source.

"This condition has a high mortality rate," Siegel said.

According to the American Heart Association, an untreated acute aortic dissection is one of the deadliest cardiovascular emergencies.

For untreated dissections involving the ascending aorta, the risk of death increases by approximately 1% to 2% for every hour treatment is delayed after symptoms begin, according to the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.

Without treatment, more than half of people with a Type A aortic dissection die within one month. About 20% of Type A patients will die in the hospital, compared to 10% for treated Type B dissections.

Can it be prevented?

While not all aortic dissections can be prevented, people can reduce their risk by controlling certain lifestyle factors.

"You need to make sure your blood pressure is well-controlled, your cholesterol is low and that you are seen regularly by a doctor," Siegel advised.

Smokers should kick the habit, he said, as they are at a highly increased risk.

Maintaining a healthy weight and following treatment plans for underlying heart or vascular conditions can also reduce the risk, according to Mayo Clinic.

People with a family history of aortic disease or inherited connective tissue disorders should discuss screening with their healthcare provider, doctors advise.

America’s retirement system is broken. Trump may have found a bold fix

When President Donald Trump told reporters on last week that he was looking "very strongly" at Australia's retirement system, most Americans probably shrugged and thought, "Great — another retirement plan."

They shouldn't.

If this idea becomes legislation, it could represent the biggest shift in American retirement policy since Social Security was signed into law in 1935. Don’t be surprised if the Trump name is on the retirement account if it happens.

The important thing to understand is this main point: Trump isn't talking about copying Australia. He's talking about taking what works and making it "sharper" for America.

So what exactly is he trying to accomplish?

America has a retirement problem

Our retirement system was built for an economy that barely exists anymore.

People used to work for one employer for 30 years, receive a pension, collect Social Security, and retire. Social Security was built for people to claim it at 65 and live to about 70. That’s gone. People are lucky if they work at the same company for five years, let alone 30, and pensions are nearly gone. And we know the savings rate in America is an abysmal 2.6%.

Today, Americans change jobs every few years. Millions work as freelancers, independent contractors, Uber drivers, or for employers that don't even offer a 401(k).

Meanwhile, too many workers have little or nothing saved for retirement. That's the backdrop for Trump's comments.

What Australia does differently

Australia requires employers to contribute a percentage of an employee's wages into an individual retirement account known as a "Super."

The worker owns the account. The investments stay invested. The account follows the employee from job to job.

The result?

Australia has built one of the world's largest retirement savings pools relative to the size of its population. There is a constant flow of capital into the markets. Trump likes that thought.

That isn't an accident. It's the result of automatic, long-term investing.

What an American version could look like

If I were advising the administration, I wouldn't simply copy Australia. I'd build an American version around three principles.

First, keep Social Security as the foundation. Second, create a portable retirement account that belongs to the worker, not the employer. Third, require or strongly encourage automatic retirement contributions into privately managed investment accounts.

Instead of relying almost entirely on future government benefits, Americans would retire with assets they actually own. That is the three-legged stool of retirement. That is a fundamentally different philosophy.

Why Trump may be interested

This isn't just about retirement. It's about ownership. America faces three long-term challenges simultaneously.

Social Security's long-term financing pressures. Will we really run out of money in 2034?

A retirement savings gap that leaves millions financially vulnerable.

An economy increasingly built around workers who don't fit neatly into traditional employer-sponsored retirement plans. An Australia-style system attempts to address all three.

Rather than expanding government retirement programs, it encourages Americans to accumulate private wealth through decades of investing in the capital markets.

That's a distinctly pro-market approach.

There is one huge problem

Mandatory employer contributions aren't free. Businesses ultimately pay those costs.

You could argue that a mandatory employer contribution effectively functions like a hidden payroll tax because employers will eventually recover those costs through slower wage growth, reduced hiring, higher prices, or lower profits.

That's a legitimate concern, particularly for small businesses already operating on thin margins. If Washington simply mandates a 12% employer contribution overnight, as Australia has, it could create real economic disruption.

Here's how I'd make it work

If the administration wants bipartisan support, it should avoid a one-size-fits-all mandate. Here’s one way to install this massive change.

• Phase in employer contributions gradually over several years. Start at 1% and gradually grow that number.

• Offer meaningful tax credits for small businesses.

• Allow limited access to retirement funds for major life events, like purchasing a first home.

• Coordinate the system with the new Trump Accounts so every American begins adulthood with investment assets already working for them.

• Keep investment management private rather than creating another government-controlled investment fund.

That would preserve market competition while dramatically increasing retirement participation.

The retirement revolution

America has done an excellent job creating opportunities to save. We haven't done a very good job making sure people actually do it.

Behavioral economics tells us something simple about psychology, and that is automatic saving works. But we also shouldn't ignore the cost to employers or pretend mandatory contributions come without tradeoffs.

The smartest version of this policy isn't Australia. It's an American system that expands ownership without crushing small businesses.

If done correctly, this wouldn't just change retirement. It would change who owns America's future.

Instead of producing another generation dependent primarily on government checks, we could produce millions more Americans who retire owning meaningful stakes in the companies, markets, and economy they spent a lifetime helping build.

New Zealand actor Sam Neill dies at age 78 after cancer recovery, family says

New Zealand actor Sam Neill died suddenly at age 78 on Monday after he recovered from cancer, his family announced.

Neill was surrounded by family when he passed away.

"It is with immense sadness that the whānau of Sam Neill share the news of his passing on Monday 13th July, in Sydney, Australia," his family said in a statement shared on Neill's Instagram page.

"The loss was sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer free," his family added.

Neill "passed with the dignity that has characterized his whole life," his family said.

The Jurassic Park actor announced in April he was cancer-free after undergoing treatment for stage-three blood cancer.

"I’ve just had a scan just now and there is no cancer in my body, that’s an extraordinary thing," Neill said at the time. "I’m very, very excited that this can happen."

The family said more details will be shared later, but asked that fans respect their privacy as they "navigate this immeasurable loss."

Naked man tries to kidnap 7-year-old tourist from mother at Portland park, bystanders intervene

A naked man was arrested over the weekend in Portland, Oregon, after he attempted to kidnap a 7-year-old girl from her mother at a waterfront park, according to police.

Shortly before 7 p.m. on Saturday, Portland Police received reports of a naked man running around Tom McCall Waterfront Park, with one of the callers saying the man had attempted to punch them in the head.

But police said all officers were busy responding to other calls and were not available at the time.

About 12 minutes later, another caller reported that the suspect had grabbed a young girl and attempted to pull her away from her mother.

Officers then responded to the scene and found the nude suspect swimming nearby in the Willamette River.

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Daniel Vasey, was arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of first and second-degree attempted kidnapping, first-degree custodial interference, third-degree assault and harassment.

Police said the 7-year-old girl was not seriously injured. She was checked by paramedics at the scene and treated for scratches, but she was not transported by ambulance to a hospital.

An investigation revealed that Vasey grabbed the girl's arm and that her parents and bystanders stepped in to prevent him from taking her, police said.

The girl's mother grabbed her other arm and tried to prevent Vasey from taking her daughter, and the struggle over the girl was so significant that she was lifted off the ground.

The child's father and bystanders also jumped in and punched, slapped and pulled on the suspect, causing him to release the girl. One bystander used pepper spray on him in an effort to keep him away from people.

The young girl and her family told officers that they were tourists visiting Portland from out of state.

If the Las Vegas Aces thought Saturday night's 48-point demolition of the Phoenix Mercury meant another easy win was coming, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever had other plans.

Clark reached another historic milestone along the way, becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to record 600 career assists, doing it in just 72 games.

The Fever marched into Vegas and embarrassed the defending champions, cruising to a stunning 109-75 win. The spotlight belonged to Caitlin Clark and A'ja Wilson – the WNBA's biggest draw versus its most dominant force.

Clark didn't need one of her signature scoring explosions either, finishing with 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists as Indiana's balanced attack overwhelmed Las Vegas.

And then there was the red-hot Sophie Cunningham.

The Fever guard, who was walking the Octagon at UFC 329 less than 24 hours earlier, caught fire for 20 points while drilling six of her seven attempts from beyond the arc.

Stefon Diggs, still seeking new NFL home, insists no team has a better No 2 receiver ‘than me’

Stefon Diggs is still looking for his next NFL team after one season with the New England Patriots, which ended in a Super Bowl LX defeat.

With NFL training camps across the country set to kick off at the end of the month, Diggs, who will be entering his 12th season, made quite the statement during a recent YouTube video on his channel.

Diggs stated that he is the best No. 2 receiver in the league, and he explained why.

"Everybody got a 1,," he said. "Opportunities aside, people might say there’s seven real 1s. In my opinion, I can compete with anybody, but take those as your 1s. You can’t name a No. 2 better than me. There’s not a No. 2 on a team. Let’s presumably give people the credit and just say, ‘OK, you want to take the No. 1 spot away.’ Name your No. 2 receiver right now. Tell me how much he makes. My last question is: Is he better than me?"

Diggs put up 1,013 yards in his 11th season, his first and only with the Patriots, on 85 receptions (102 targets) with four touchdowns from breakout star quarterback Drake Maye . It marked Diggs’ seventh 1,000-yard season in the NFL, which have come in seven of the last eight seasons.

Could Diggs’ off-the-field issues be a factor? He faced some serious allegations in December after being charged with felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault in a dispute with his private chef.

However, Diggs was found not guilty by a jury, with the NFL closing its review on the matter, stating there was insufficient evidence to warrant a suspension for violating its personal conduct policy. Diggs’ attorney said that "professional athletes have a target on their back" following the non-guilty verdict.

"We have taken these allegations seriously from Day One and that’s exactly why we were eager for the facts to come to light through the legal process," Mitch Schuster of Meister, Seelig & Schuster, the firm that represented Diggs, said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital in May.

The Patriots released Diggs in March, but he has been staying in shape and looking for the next opportunity since the league cleared him last month.

Four Americans caught in horrific Mexico highway pileup that killed at least 10

Four Americans were reportedly caught in a fiery multi-vehicle crash in Mexico that left at least 10 people dead and about 10 others injured.

The massive pileup happened Sunday after a tractor-trailer crashed into multiple vehicles on a highway in the western state of Jalisco, according to the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection of Nayarit.

While the agency reported 10 deaths, Mexico's Army, Air Force and National Guard said nine people were killed.

Jalisco Civil Protection told Reuters that four Americans suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

"Four patients in minor condition, all U.S. citizens, were transferred to the Arboledas Hospital in Guadalajara by a private ambulance from the highway," Jalisco Civil Protection said.

Reuters reported that two of those killed were minors.

Another two of the injured were identified as National Guard members who suffered serious injuries and were taken to a hospital in Guadalajara, according to Reuters.

Videos circulating on social media appeared to show several vehicles engulfed in flames along the highway connecting Guadalajara and Tepic, sending multiple plumes of black smoke into the air.

According to Mexican officials, the crash happened when a tractor-trailer apparently suffered a brake failure and slammed into a line of vehicles that had stopped because of an earlier accident.

"According to initial reports, a trailer reportedly suffered a failure in its braking system and ended up crashing into several vehicles that were stopped due to a prior incident," Mexico's Army, Air Force and National Guard said in a post on X.

The initial accident reportedly involved a rear-end collision between two tractor-trailers. As emergency crews responded, a third tractor-trailer crashed into the scene, according to the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection of Nayarit.

"As a result of this second impact, three private vehicles and two tractor-trailer trucks were completely destroyed by the fire," the authorities said. "Additionally, two other private vehicles and an official Dodge Charger unit belonging to the National Guard sustained material damage. "

Firefighters later extinguished the blaze, officials said.

Local outlet El Financiero reported that the driver of the tractor-trailer was detained by the National Guard.

Instead, the UFC couldn't even get the sport right, introducing him as an NBA player. The mishap set up for one of White's most memorable post-fight rants in recent memory.

"So, I tell you all the time, my production team is amazing. We just did the White House ... and it was the greatest f---ing thing in the world to be there live and to watch it on TV," White told reporters.

The only problem? He was identified as Jalen Williams of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Yikes. Under normal circumstances, that's something you laugh off. But for White, it was an expensive embarrassment.

White had just spent big to bring Stevenson to Zuffa Boxing. UFC 329 was supposed to celebrate the signing. Instead, the broadcast turned him into a member of the Thunder.

White later revealed he got into a backstage screaming match with his crew, who apparently tried to defend the gaffe by claiming soccer broadcasts are worse because they don't use graphics at all.

"Oh no," White fired back. "We put up f---ing graphics and put the wrong guy's name on them. We win. We're the worst ever to do it."

While White was ready to hand out pink slips, the athletes involved took the blunder in stride.

Stevenson hopped on social media, jokingly tweeting, "Yea Dana #FireTheyA--."

Meanwhile, the real Jalen Williams caught wind of his surprise appearance at UFC 329 and posted a screenshot of the broadcast to his Instagram Stories with the caption, "Ehhh close enough."

It also wasn't the UFC's first celebrity graphic disaster. Fans may remember UFC 306 when the production crew famously labeled world champion boxer Terence Crawford as "Kendrick Lamar."

Two teen suspects held after 5 family members killed in 'targeted mass shooting'

Seven family members were shot, five fatally, in what officials described as a "targeted mass shooting" in Illinois on Sunday.

Two teenage suspects — both 16 — were taken into custody in connection with the shootings, Illinois State Police announced at a press briefing.

Charges have not yet been filed against the suspects.

Mookie Betts becomes latest Dodgers player to skip White House visit, insists it's 'not political'

The Los Angeles Dodgers organization is the most successful current franchise on the field, and the most successful at finding ways to put themselves in the center of controversies.

All because they’re in a constant tug of war between making left-wing fans and sportswriters happy, and remaining apolitical because they are, of course, a baseball team. When they won the 2024 World Series, they faced a firestorm of criticism from left-wing sportswriters and some extreme fans for accepting President Donald Trump's invitation to visit the White House.

That continued almost immediately after LA won the 2025 title too, with pro-immigration groups like the National Day Laborer Organizing Network asking the Dodgers, a baseball team, to stand "on the right side of history." Writers for the Los Angeles Times were equally absurd, saying, "All in all, it’s hard to imagine the Dodgers agreeing to a celebratory photo op with the president right now. Los Angeles is not just Dodger blue, but Democrat blue."

These criticisms were absurd, given that the traditional and ceremonial White House visit has nothing to do with politics. The Dodgers likely have players from all over the political spectrum. They have fans from all over the political spectrum. Yes, Los Angeles County is a Democratic Party stronghold. It also has more Republicans than any other county in the country, numerically. They also have a large national fanbase, with fans in states like Arizona, Georgia, and Texas who differ ideologically from those in LA County. Do those fans not matter?

But it’s clear that the team’s star players have heard them anyway, because shortstop Mookie Betts addressed them when saying he would not be joining his teammates on July 23.

The California Post reported over the weekend that Betts would be skipping the ceremony, though the 33-year-old said it had nothing to do with politics and more to do with spending time with his new baby.

"I’m not trying to make this a whole big deal," Betts said. "We just had a baby. You don’t get many days off. They’re coming [on the road trip]. And just want to hang out with the fam. That’s really kind of it. But people are gonna make it a whole bunch of other stuff."

He continued, telling Jack Harris that he knows his decision will be scrutinized regardless.

"If I do [go], people are gonna hate me. If I don’t, people are gonna hate me," he added. "So instead of trying to make everyone else happy, I’m gonna think about myself and my family."

He insisted that this decision was not politically motivated, and he did visit the White House after the team’s 2024 title.

Therein lies the problem with making these visits into a political statement, as sportswriters do. Betts may have a legitimate reason for skipping the visit; it is a long and grueling season and off-days are few and far between. The White House trip takes up most of the day and requires formal dress. He also went just last season. Yet at the same time, the All-Star break starts on Monday and gives Betts three days off, before a travel day to New York to play the Yankees starting Friday night.

So if there’s ever a time during the season where skipping an off-day to go to the White House makes sense, it’s the week after the All-Star break. Still, Betts has been to the White House several times before, making the trip somewhat less appealing.

Kike Hernandez also said he would not be making the visit, though he's scheduled to be on a rehab assignment when the big league team is on the East Coast. Still, he told reporters he would probably not have gone, likely out of protest that the Trump administration enforces immigration law.

All of this debate and disagreement could be avoided if supposedly impartial sportswriters just stopped forcing their ideology into every available corner. They would never make this ceremony a political statement with a Democratic Party politician in charge, because in their minds, any policy enacted by a Democrat is reasonable, justifiable, and obvious common sense thinking. Regardless of how absurd that view is to those on the right.

Terminally ill man marries longtime love in hospital as final wish comes true

A terminally ill man who chose to provide for his kids over spending money on a wedding has finally tied the knot with his fiancé – 20 years after he first proposed to her.

Dean Pennell, 63, met his partner Kay Beaman, 62, through their children 24 years ago in Basildon, Essex.

The couple held off on wedding plans in order to provide for their 10 children.

She added to SWNS, "Dean proposed when we first got together — but with 10 children between us, money would not allow."

She added, "We were planning to get married this year, but with the situation as it was, we decided to bring the wedding forward."

The couple were joined by their family and friends, including their 10 children and some of their 18 grandchildren.

Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed was confronted about his past instances of appearing to support "defunding the police" efforts on CNN's "Inside Politics" Sunday.

In a resurfaced radio interview cited by CNN, El-Sayed explicitly called for defunding the police in the aftermath of the 2020 George Floyd riots.

"I believe that we do need to defund the police insofar as defunding the police is disinvesting in the means of incarcerating or killing them on the streets," El-Sayed said. "And in investing more in the means of educating and empowering, engaging communities with the means of being able to take on systemic poverty, that we’ve allowed systematic racism to allow to fester in too many communities."

You fixate on the word 'defund,' but what I’m talking about is war material that we made too much of during the war in Iraq. And then, because we had too much of it, we had to find somewhere to sell it. So we sold it to a whole bunch to local police departments."

"I believe in investing in retention and retirement for law enforcement. I've done work with law enforcement during my time in Wayne County —"

"But wouldn't that ... wouldn't that issue of defunding the police become an electability issue in November?" Raju interjected.

"So maybe instead of investing in war material for police, we invest in a safe retirement for them," he continued. "And then, instead of sending a guy with a gun, we actually send a trained mental health professional."

"That‘s what I‘m talking about," El-Sayed added. "That's what I defined. And I think that's exactly what people want. Now, if you want to keep talking about one particular word that was in vogue that I tried to define at the time, sure. But I think if we're having a serious conversation about public safety, you'll see that my perspective is in keeping with exactly what most people who are rational about this question are talking about, and what they want."

Fox News Digital reached out to El-Sayed's campaign for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

A massive fire ripped through a Bangkok pub early Monday, killing at least 27 people and injuring several others as patrons tried to flee the smoke-filled venue, officials said.

The blaze was reported around midnight at the Na Ladprao pub in the northern part of Thailand’s capital, The Associated Press reported, citing rescuers.

Video shared by first responders showed flames pouring from the front of the building and thick black smoke billowing into the sky as people scrambled to escape.

The District of Columbia's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Sunday released preliminary findings indicating Sen. Lindsey Graham suffered an aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease before his death.

Graham, 71, was pronounced dead at George Washington University Hospital at 10:23 p.m. Saturday, according to a joint statement from the Metropolitan Police Department and the District of Columbia's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. An autopsy was performed Sunday.

The medical examiner emphasized that the findings are not final and that Graham's death certificate will remain pending while toxicological and microscopic testing is completed.

"The preliminary examination findings were: Aortic Dissection due to Arteriosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease," the medical examiner's office said in a statement.

Arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease refers to the buildup of plaque inside the arteries, which can restrict blood flow and increase the risk of serious heart and vascular complications.

Emergency dispatch audio reviewed by Fox News Digital captures the emergency response to Sen. Lindsey Graham's Washington, D.C., home Saturday night, revealing first responders were dispatched for a reported cardiac arrest before the senator's office announced his death Sunday morning.

District of Columbia Fire and EMS radio traffic shows the first dispatch came shortly after 8 p.m. local time, when responders were sent to Graham's home for a reported cardiac arrest.

As units responded, dispatchers relayed that the caller reported the front door was unlocked. But after arriving and finding the door was locked with no response from inside, first responders requested Metropolitan Police Department officers respond to force entry.

Roughly 20 to 25 minutes after the initial dispatch, radio traffic indicated CPR was in progress as emergency crews worked inside the home. The audio does not identify Graham by name or describe the patient's condition.

Authorities could be heard in additional radio traffic saying the incident would be handled as a "Capitol Police matter only." The final relevant radio traffic came through shortly after 9:30 p.m.

"On the evening of Saturday, July 11, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham passed away from a brief and sudden illness," his office wrote in a statement.

"Senator Graham's family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period," the statement continued.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia released preliminary findings on Sunday suggesting Graham died from an aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

"The preliminary examination findings were: Aortic Dissection due to Arteriosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease," according to the medical examiner's office.

Officials added Graham's death certificate will remain pending until toxicology and microscopic testing are complete.

"The death certificate will be PENDING until all the toxicological and microscopic testing are finalized and at that point the death certificate will be updated to reflect the cause of death and appropriately classify the manner of death," the medical examiner's office said.

Fox News Digital has reached out to DC Fire and EMS and the U.S. Capitol Police for additional information about the emergency response.

Graham was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2002 and took office in 2003 after serving four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. He won re-election three times and was seeking a fifth Senate term after winning the Republican primary last month.

He served as chairman of the Senate Budget Committee and sat on the Appropriations, Judiciary, and Environment and Public Works committees.

The longtime lawmaker had just met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Friday and was scheduled to appear on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday morning.

A migrant wanted in connection with the brutal murder of an American mother in Ireland was in the country despite having his asylum application rejected, according to Irish media.

The man, described by Irish police as a "person of interest," was in the process of appealing the asylum decision and was allowed to remain in the country when Jamey Carney, 43, was beaten and suffocated in her home in Killarney, County Kerry, the Irish Mirror reported.

Despite his status, the outlet said he was still in the possession of his passport and left Ireland on a flight to Istanbul, Turkey, before Carney’s body was discovered Tuesday, triggering an international manhunt and a murder investigation.

It is unclear when his asylum application was refused or why it was denied. Irish police have refused to name the man.

The reports are likely to intensify scrutiny of Ireland’s asylum system and why the man remained in the country after reportedly being denied asylum.

The Irish Mirror reported the Jordanian national had arrived in Ireland in 2024 and been living in a state-run migrant shelter in the idyllic town before spending increasing amounts of time at Carney’s home after they became romantically involved.

He first arrived in the United Kingdom before traveling through Northern Ireland and eventually settling in County Kerry, according to the Irish Mirror.

His social media accounts contain posts from the United Kingdom and Turkey in recent years.

Carney’s social media profiles described her as a "New Yorker in Ireland" and showed her with a man she identified as her partner and writing that they were a "mixed couple." Multiple Irish media outlets have identified the man as the person police are seeking, though Irish police have not publicly confirmed his identity or reported immigration status.

Fox News Digital asked Irish police and the Department of Justice to confirm reports that he had been refused asylum and was appealing that decision. Neither agency confirmed the reports.

Detectives believe Carney died around 11 p.m. Monday, roughly 14 hours before her body was discovered, according to The Irish Independent.

Her body was found on Tuesday at around 1:30 p.m. local time by her 13-year-old daughter.

By that time, the man had boarded a flight to Istanbul having traveled 200 miles by bus to Dublin Airport.

Despite the manhunt entering its sixth day, police have yet to name or provide any details about the person on the run, drawing criticism on both sides of the Atlantic. Irish police said that investigators are working with international law enforcement partners as the murder investigation continues.

Detectives issued alerts to airports, ports, train stations and bus stations within just over an hour of Carney’s body being discovered, The Irish Independent reported. However, by then, the man had already left Ireland.

According to the Irish Mirror, investigators now fear he may already have traveled onward to his home country of Jordan, which does not have an extradition treaty with Ireland.

A law enforcement source told Fox News Digital the search is expected to be difficult because the man had a significant head start before investigators were alerted to Carney’s death.

Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., nearly a month after being hospitalized, revealed what actually happened to cause his absence from the Senate.

In a lengthy statement released Sunday evening, McConnell attributed his childhood fight with polio to a fall he suffered last month which landed him in the hospital. He was "briefly unconscious," he said in an open letter to Kentuckians, and while recovering was hit with a "mild case of pneumonia."

"My doctors have confirmed that I didn’t break any bones or suffer a concussion," McConnell said. "I didn’t have a heart attack or a stroke. I don’t have any tumors or hemorrhages."

MCCONNELL FACES FRESH CALLS TO COME CLEAN ABOUT HEALTH ISSUES

Yet, when he will return to the Senate remains a mystery, something that McConnell himself acknowledged.

"As much as it frustrates me, this process takes time. And on the advice of my doctors, I won’t be able to return to the Senate floor to vote quite yet," McConnell said. "But rest assured that, in the meantime, I’m not taking a break from the Senate business that matters to you."

His attending physician noted that McConnell has, "experienced several falls throughout the year that have been attributed to his post-polio condition."

MCCONNELL WAS FOUND 'UNCONSCIOUS' IN HOME LAST MONTH AS CONDITION REMAINS UNKNOWN

"He was admitted to the hospital four weeks ago after falling at home and sustaining minor injuries," McConnell’s doctor said.

"A comprehensive evaluation by a multidisciplinary team determined that he had no fractures, cardiac abnormalities, stroke, tumor, or hemorrhage," his doctor continued. "Early in his hospitalization, he developed pneumonia, which responded rapidly to antibiotic treatment."

The latest update on the longtime lawmaker’s health comes after the sudden death of Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who had just returned from a trip to Ukraine on Saturday night.

McConnell’s absence, coupled with the shocking death of Graham, leaves the Senate down two crucial votes amid a dead sprint to wrap up key parts of President Donald Trump's agenda through July and into early August.

Adding to the morbid intrigue was leaked emergency dispatch audio from June 14, the day he was hospitalized, that revealed the longtime Senate Republican was "unconscious" and may have suffered a heart attack.

Further compounding the hazy nature of the situation was his wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao’s, trip to China just days after his hospitalization. Chao’s office previously told Fox News Digital that, "The secretary was on a long-planned trip in China to support her family's philanthropic endeavors."

"During the trip, she met with a number of people, including the U.S. ambassador," her office said. "The Senator's health did not warrant an immediate return to the U.S."

He read intelligence reports, attended the briefings, and then went on Sunday morning television and translated it for the American people in plain language.

He was one of the few lawmakers who could do that. That translation job matters more than most people realize. American foreign policy generally suffers in the gap between what our intelligence community knows and what the average voter hears. Lindsey bridged that gap.

He was also one of a very small number of people who had President Donald Trump's ear on national security, and he used it.

When Iranian dissidents inside and outside the regime adoringly called him "Uncle Lindsey," they showed appreciation for his advocacy. He named their political prisoners on the Senate floor.

He met with their families, and with exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, listening to and supporting the Iranian people while pushing for policy that prioritizes American security. In a town full of people who talk about human rights, he did something about them.

A strong Israel deters Iran, stabilizes the Persian Gulf, protects shipping lanes, and signals to every adversary from Beijing to Caracas that the U.S. does not abandon its friends.

That was his through-line. In an age of narrative warfare, when a TikTok video or a campus chant can flip a generation's understanding of a 3,000-year-old conflict in 90 seconds, Graham refused to negotiate with the mob.

He believed moral clarity was itself a national security asset. Standing by allies and putting enemies on notice was America's DNA. It was the country Ronald Reagan described, John McCain fought for, and Lindsey Graham spent three decades in Congress defending.

He worked with Democrats when it mattered and fought them ferociously when it mattered more. He shepherded judges. He rebuilt the defense budget. He stood next to McCain in the desert and next to Trump in the Oval Office, and made both relationships work.

Osbourne's self-assured post comes months after she slammed online critics who scrutinized her appearance while she was grieving the loss of her father, Ozzy Osbourne. The legendary Black Sabbath frontman died at the age of 76 following a heart attack on July 22, 2025.

Following the 2026 BRIT Awards in March, Osbourne denounced body shamers in a statement she shared on her Instagram Story after she and her mother Sharon Osbourne accepted a posthumous lifetime achievement award on behalf of Ozzy.

Learning another language may keep your brain younger, study suggests

Speaking two or more languages may help slow brain aging, according to new research.

The study, presented at the 2026 Federation of European Neuroscience Societies Forum, found that people who spoke multiple languages appeared to have younger brains than those who spoke only one language.

Researchers analyzed brain activity from hundreds of people in Spain's Basque region who spoke between one and four languages, including Spanish, Basque, French and English. They used artificial intelligence to estimate each participant's "brain age" based on patterns of brain connectivity.

COMMON VITAMIN MAY INFLUENCE BRAIN AGING IN WAYS SCIENTISTS DIDN'T EXPECT

The researchers found that bilingual participants had brains that appeared about six years younger than those of monolingual participants. People who spoke three languages had brains that appeared about seven years younger, while those who spoke four languages had brains that appeared roughly 13 years younger.

The findings also suggested that people who learned a second language earlier in life and became highly fluent experienced greater benefits.

Dr. Tommy Wood, a neuroscientist, performance consultant and author of "The Stimulated Mind: Future-Proof Your Brain from Dementia and Stay Sharp at Any Age," said the findings support earlier research showing that speaking multiple languages may help protect cognitive function as people age.

"Most of the evidence for the benefit of learning multiple languages comes from individuals who grew up bilingual or learned multiple languages in childhood," Wood, who was not involved in the research, told Fox News Digital.

He said adults who didn't grow up speaking more than one language should not assume it's too late to benefit.

"There's no clear cutoff in age where learning a second language would no longer be beneficial," Wood said.

Several randomized controlled trials involving older adults have found improvements in attention, working memory and executive function after just a few months of language learning, he said.

Beyond improving cognitive function, Wood said learning a new language can also help people stay socially engaged and strengthen the brain's ability to absorb new information.

He encouraged adults not to be discouraged by making mistakes while learning.

"Making mistakes is one of the biggest drivers of neuroplasticity and learning," he said. "If you do choose to learn a new language, get stuck in, challenge yourself and embrace the occasional failure. You'll actually learn faster as a result."

Platner announced that he would be ending his campaign last week after a report accused him of sexually assaulting an ex-girlfriend in 2021. Several major Democratic figures initially stood by the candidate prior to this report in his bid to defeat longtime Republican incumbent Sen. Susan Collins.

One of them included Khanna, who personally campaigned with Platner in June amid several other mounting controversies and allegations of sexual misconduct.

"You have stood by him through a series of previous controversies, from a tattoo resembling a Nazi symbol to his online posts blaming survivors of sexual assault, even after The New York Times published allegations from ex-girlfriends describing a pattern of emotional abuse, aggressive behavior, which he denies we should say," host Kristen Welker said. "Why weren’t those past controversies a breaking point for you?

"For me, the line always was sexual assault or sexual violence, and as soon as that came out, I was the first person to withdraw my endorsement," Khanna said. "But I will say I got that call wrong, and if there is some self-reflection, is that we all need to see the signs earlier of people who may engage in domestic violence. I wasn’t the only one. You had Planned Parenthood. You had Sen. [Elizabeth] Warren. You had the entire Democratic Party. But I did get that call wrong."

Khanna added, "I think what is important, though, is to understand his politics. He was opposed to foreign wars, for Medicare for All and why the progressive movement, more broadly, why these issues are resonating."

"Do you regret endorsing him?" Welker asked.

"Yes. I got that call wrong. I endorse a lot of people, but when I make a mistake, I take accountability. And I think what people want is the humility to take accountability if you make a call that's wrong," Khanna said.

Khanna previously appeared to downplay allegations against Platner, pointing out that he was a combat veteran who suffered PTSD.

"My view is that, even according to the New York Times piece, they said there was no harm, no injury," Khanna said on CBS' "Face the Nation" last month. "There was toxicity, and there was verbal intimidation, which I condemn, but Graham has made it clear that there was no evidence of violence. That, to me, is a red line."
