Trump launches Gold Eagle to hunt cyber flaws with AI

Most of us tap Update Now and move on. However, a lot happens before that security patch reaches your phone or computer. Researchers must find the flaw. Someone needs to confirm it. Then the developer has to create a fix that will not cause a new problem.

Now, artificial intelligence can uncover software weaknesses much faster. That sounds promising, but it can also create a flood of vulnerability reports. Worse, attackers can use similar AI tools to hunt for the same openings.

The Trump administration wants to help defenders move first. The White House just announced the Gold Eagle AI cybersecurity clearinghouse. Officials say the program has already started receiving and prioritizing vulnerability reports.

Gold Eagle will connect federal agencies with private companies, critical infrastructure operators and open-source software teams. Its goal is to uncover serious flaws faster and coordinate the work needed to patch them.

What is the Gold Eagle AI cybersecurity clearinghouse?

Gold Eagle is a federal coordination center for software vulnerabilities. The Treasury Department leads the effort with support from CISA and other federal partners. President Trump ordered the creation of the clearinghouse through Executive Order 14409 on June 2, 2026. The order directed Treasury to work with the National Cyber Director and other agencies.

Gold Eagle must coordinate vulnerability scanning and reduce duplicated work. It will also help validate findings before teams spend time fixing them. Finally, the program will support the distribution of patches once they are ready. The White House calls Gold Eagle a "force multiplier." In other words, the government wants each participating security team to accomplish more by sharing reliable information.

Gold Eagle does not replace the developers who maintain the affected software. Instead, it creates a central place where government and industry can coordinate their response. That distinction is important. Finding a bug does not automatically fix it. Developers still need to understand the weakness and build a safe update.

How Gold Eagle uses AI to find cyber vulnerabilities

AI models can review large amounts of computer code quickly. They can also examine how software reacts when someone sends it unusual commands or unexpected data. That speed may help researchers uncover weaknesses that survived years of conventional testing.

A senior White House official said closed-source AI models will participate in Gold Eagle's vulnerability work. That includes Anthropic's Claude Mythos, which the company designed for advanced cybersecurity research. Anthropic says Mythos-class models can find software vulnerabilities and develop ways to exploit them. The company also warns that those abilities could make attacks easier if the models fall into the wrong hands.

That creates an uncomfortable reality. The same AI that can help protect a system may also help someone break into it. Therefore, Gold Eagle's success will depend on more than the model's ability to find bugs. The program must control who receives the details and how quickly developers get a warning.

Why Gold Eagle wants to stop duplicate security scans

Imagine several repair crews checking the same water pipe while another leak goes unnoticed. Cybersecurity teams can face a similar problem. Several organizations may scan the same popular software without knowing that another team already found the flaw. Meanwhile, less visible software may receive little attention.

Gold Eagle aims to coordinate those searches. It can help participating teams avoid repeating work and direct their attention toward software that still needs review. The clearinghouse will also try to cut through low-quality reports. AI models can generate convincing findings that turn out to be harmless or inaccurate.

As a result, human validation remains essential. Security engineers need to reproduce the reported flaw and confirm that it creates a real risk. After that, developers must test the repair. They also need to release the update without breaking the product for existing users.

How VINCE handles Gold Eagle vulnerability reports

Gold Eagle will use technology developed with Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute. The system is called the Vulnerability Information and Coordination Environment, or VINCE. Carnegie Mellon's CERT Coordination Center already uses VINCE to accept vulnerability reports and communicate with affected software vendors.

Gold Eagle can use that platform as an intake point for AI-discovered vulnerabilities. Reports can then move through validation and coordination before details become public. This controlled process matters because revealing a serious vulnerability too early can give attackers a head start. Ideally, the software company receives enough time to prepare a patch before technical details spread.

However, several operational questions remain unanswered. The administration has not publicly identified every company participating in Gold Eagle. It has also released few details about daily oversight or the way sensitive reports will move between participants. The government has not said how many findings have resulted in completed patches either.

Why open-source software matters to Gold Eagle

Open-source code sits inside a huge range of commercial products. It can power parts of a browser or business platform without the average user ever knowing its name. However, many open-source projects operate with limited resources. Some rely heavily on maintainers who contribute their time alongside other jobs.

AI could help those teams find dangerous flaws. At the same time, it could overwhelm them with reports that require careful review. Gold Eagle may offer a useful filter. The clearinghouse could validate a report before sending it to a project that lacks a large security department.

It could also connect maintainers with government or industry engineers who can help assess the problem. Anthropic has already worked with open-source groups through Project Glasswing. The company says its partners used Mythos Preview to find more than 10,000 high or critical-severity vulnerabilities. Those figures come from Anthropic and do not represent Gold Eagle's results. Still, those findings show why the government expects AI-generated vulnerability reports to arrive at a much greater scale.

Anthropic's Mythos shows the risks of powerful cyber AI

The government's recent handling of Claude Mythos 5 shows how sensitive these capabilities have become. On June 12, 2026, the U.S. government applied export controls to Mythos 5 and Claude Fable 5. Anthropic suspended access because it could not immediately verify the nationality of every user.

The government lifted those restrictions on June 30. Anthropic restored Mythos 5 access on July 1 to a selected group of approved U.S. organizations. Anthropic currently limits Mythos 5 to vetted partners because the model could support defensive research or harmful activity.

Gold Eagle is betting that controlled access can give defenders an advantage. However, other advanced models will continue improving. That means Gold Eagle will need to move quickly. A flaw loses much of its defensive value once an attacker independently discovers it.

Gold Eagle still faces major questions

The idea behind Gold Eagle makes sense. Security teams should share validated findings and avoid wasting time on duplicate scans. However, coordination can become slow when too many organizations must approve each decision.

Gold Eagle will need clear rules for who validates a vulnerability. It also needs a reliable way to decide which reports deserve immediate attention. Transparency will matter too. The government should eventually publish useful performance information without revealing dangerous technical details.

For example, it could report how many findings were validated and how quickly affected developers received them. It could also show how many vulnerabilities led to released patches. The program faces a legal deadline as well. Its information-sharing process relies on protections in the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015.

Congress temporarily extended that law through September 30, 2026. The administration says a lapse could undermine the cooperation Gold Eagle needs from private companies. Companies may hesitate to share sensitive information when they feel uncertain about legal protections. That could weaken the clearinghouse before it has time to prove itself.

How to protect yourself from newly discovered security flaws

Gold Eagle works mostly behind the scenes. However, the patch still has to reach your device. You also need to install it. Here are several ways to reduce your exposure while companies work to close newly discovered flaws.

1) Turn on automatic security updates

Enable automatic updates for your phone and computer. You should also update your browser and regularly used apps. Many software updates close security holes. Automatic installation reduces the time that a known flaw remains open on your device. However, review major operating system upgrades before installing them on a device you rely on for critical work. 2) Update your router and smart devices

Your router may not display update reminders as visibly as your phone. The same problem can affect security cameras and other connected devices. 3) Replace devices that no longer receive security fixes

CISA warns that unsupported network equipment can increase an organization's attack surface.

4) Download updates from official sources

A real vulnerability can inspire fake update messages. Criminals may send an email that claims you must download an urgent security patch. Do not install software from an unexpected email or text message. Instead, open your device settings or the manufacturer's official app. You can also visit its verified support page directly. CISA recommends downloading patches from validated sources.

5) Use strong antivirus protection

Strong antivirus software can help detect malicious files that try to exploit a weakness on your computer. Keep the protection active and allow it to update automatically. New detection information helps the software recognize recently identified threats. Still, antivirus software cannot make an unsupported device safe. 6) Back up your important files

A current backup can help you recover if malware damages your files or ransomware locks them. Use a trusted cloud backup service or an external drive. When using an external drive, disconnect it after the backup finishes so malware cannot easily reach it. Finally, confirm that your backup is working. Sean Penn reveals chilling thought after finding himself alone with the 'Night Stalker' in jail

Sean Penn admits he briefly considered attacking one of America's most infamous serial killers after the two unexpectedly came face to face behind bars.

In a recent interview with VICE News, the actor recalled spending 34 days in Los Angeles County Jail during the height of his early Hollywood success. Penn said he was in his mid-20s, had already starred in "Taps" and filmed "Colors," and was married to Madonna when he crossed paths with the "Night Stalker."

"I got moved out of general population because of some kind of threat," the 65-year-old told the outlet. "... And a lot of guys on this department ... they invest a lot in pretending not to give a s--- about Hollywood culture, but they sure do like to gossip [about] what they see."

"So, I slept with one eye open, of course," he said. "... Then I got moved to [an] eight and a half by 11 by myself for most of the time. And through a little wire glass door, there's Richard Ramirez, not 20 feet away. And we're both insomniacs."

Shackled and belly chained for a phone call, the actor said he was escorted into an otherwise empty room — only to discover Ramirez sitting beside him.

"I came out of my cell for a phone call," Penn told the outlet. "So they take you shackled and belly chained, and they take one cuff off, put it on the eye hook so that you've got a hand for the phone. And Ramirez is seated right next to me. He's going to [make] a call also."

"There's nobody else there," said Penn. "There's nobody in there because somebody was throwing feces at somebody. It was a crazy kind of thing happening. And I did have that question. I knew what he did to some of these people. This wasn't today's phones or your cell phone, right?"

"I'm right next to him," said Penn. "I could, I could ..."

"Flatten him out," said the host.

The Oscar winner admitted he thought better of it despite having access to him "twice."

"But who was I?" said Penn. "It was just another person. And I'm so glad I didn't think I was important enough to do that, but you have the thought."

Ramirez was convicted of 13 murders during a killing spree that gripped Southern California in 1984 and 1985.

His reign of terror peaked in the summer of 1985, when he slipped into homes through unlocked doors and windows before murdering victims, sexually assaulting women and burglarizing homes. He also left satanic symbols at several crime scenes.

The press dubbed him the "Night Stalker" as authorities warned Southern California residents to lock their doors and windows after dark.

Ramirez's slayings ended in 1985 after residents of an East Los Angeles neighborhood recognized him from news reports, chased him down and beat him before police took him into custody following a failed carjacking.

During his trial, the Texas native attracted a following of young women who regularly attended court proceedings and sent him love letters.

Ramirez died in 2013 at age 53 from cancer while awaiting execution on California's death row at San Quentin State Prison.

Years before, Penn revealed another bizarre detail about their time behind bars: The serial killer wanted his autograph. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in 2015, Penn said Ramirez sent word through a deputy requesting a signed keepsake.

"He wrote me [a letter]," said Penn. "I was down here on Bauchet Street, in LA County Jail, in the cell kind of across from him. And after a month of seeing each other around, he wanted my autograph. So, he sent one of the deputies over, [and the] deputy came to my cell and told me, ‘Hey, Richard Ramirez wants your autograph.’ And I didn’t trust the deputy because I’d gotten in some trouble inside there and just passing a piece of paper is contraband, so you can get extra days for that, and I already had extra days and I didn’t want more."

"So, I said, ‘Bring the sergeant down here, and I’ll talk to him, and if he approves it, then I want him to write something first, and I’ll write him something back,’" said Penn. "So, the sergeant came down and approved it, and they went over to Ramirez — this guard basically wanted to play cupid, in some way. So, I get this thing from him, and it says, ‘Hey Sean, stay tough and hit them again — Richard Ramirez, 666,’ with a pentagram and a rendition of the devil."

Penn wrote back.

"I said, ‘You know, Richard, it’s impossible to be incarcerated and not feel a certain kinship with your fellow inmates. Well, Richard, I’ve done the impossible. I feel absolutely no kinship with you. And I hope gas descends upon you before sanity does, you know? It would be a kinder way out.’"

"And they gave it to him," said Penn. "And then my house burned down years later, and that damn thing of his burned with it."

Archaeologists uncover 1,700-year-old Christian city hidden beneath Egypt's desert

Archaeologists in Egypt recently uncovered an ancient Christian city — complete with a church and a deacon's home — that dates back to the religion's earliest centuries.

The discovery was announced by Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities on July 3.

The remnants were uncovered during excavation work at the Ain al-Sabil archaeological site in the Dakhla Oasis of New Valley Governorate, about 185 miles west of Luxor.

ARCHAEOLOGISTS MAKE UNUSUAL FIND NEAR SITE WHERE ARK OF THE COVENANT WAS ONCE KEPT

In a statement translated from Arabic, ministry officials described the Byzantine-era city as "complete."

Photos from the site show mudbrick rooms and passageways within the newly uncovered settlement, along with preserved domed ovens that archaeologists say were used for baking bread.

"All of the city's buildings were constructed of mudbrick," the statement said.

"These include the basilica church, dating to the mid-fourth century A.D.; the remains of two watchtowers on the city's outskirts; a fortress with thick defensive walls; and a cluster of houses featuring large halls and vaulted ceilings."

One of the most notable structures uncovered was the home of Tisos, a church deacon, which dates to the second half of the fourth century A.D.

Archaeologists also identified the house of Tapibos, which archaeologists believe served as a house church before the city's basilica was constructed.

Diaa Zahran, head of the Islamic, Coptic and Jewish Antiquities Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said the city followed "a well-planned urban layout."

"It features main streets running north to south intersected by east-west cross streets, creating open squares and plazas," Zahran said in a translated statement.

"At the center of the city stands a basilica church overlooking one of the principal streets."

Archaeologists also uncovered a variety of artifacts, including household pottery, bottles used to store oils and perfumes, oil lamps and stone tools for grinding grain.

A treasure trove of coins was found as well, including well-preserved bronze coins bearing images of Byzantine emperors, Latin inscriptions and Christian symbols.

Some of the gold coins date to the reign of Emperor Constantius II, who ruled from 337 to 361 A.D.

One of the most "significant discoveries" at the site was an archive of written documents, said Zahran Mahdi, director of excavations for the Islamic and Coptic Antiquities Sector.

The archive consists of 200 ostraca — broken pieces of pottery or limestone — that contained Coptic and Greek inscriptions.

"The texts record sales transactions, correspondence and other details of everyday life," Mahdi said in a statement.

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark inched closer to a one-game suspension on Wednesday night when she picked up her seventh technical foul of the season against the Connecticut Sun.

With the Fever leading 95-67 toward the end of the third quarter, Olivia Nelson-Ododa was called for a foul. Saniya Rivers, Nelson-Ododa’s teammate, began to jaw at Clark. The WNBA sharpshooter appeared to tell Rivers to check out the scoreboard and before things became feistier, the officials gave them both technical fouls.

"She said she was locking me up, so I said, 'Scoreboard,' and the ref didn't like that," Clark said after the game, via ESPN.

Clark was adamant that she wasn’t going to keep her aggressive playing style at bay just because she faces a one-game suspension with her next technical foul.

"I think just continue to try to control your emotions the best you can. That intensity and that fire is what makes me, me, but also knowing my team needs me and finding a good balance of that. But I don't think I'm going to be playing with that in the back of my head," she said.

Clark had 27 points and 11 assists in 27 minutes. She was 8-of-13 from the field and made five 3-pointers.

She is currently tied for fourth in scoring, averaging 21 points per game. She’s also second in assists per game, averaging 7.9. Indiana improved to 17-10 with the win and sits in fifth place in the WNBA standings.

Alaska’s Dan Sullivan tells 'Ruthless' he will overcome Dem effort to ‘steal’ his name

Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, told the "Ruthless Podcast" that he is prepared to take down Democrat Mary Peltola despite alleged efforts from Senate Democrats to interfere in the state’s marquee Senate matchup this fall.

"[Senate Minority Leader Chuck] Schumer and the far-left groups have been saying that the majority goes through Alaska," Sullivan said in an exclusive interview released on Thursday morning. "So they started going up with negative, far-left money attack ads against me last June. And just if you were in Alaska, you'd see, they pummeled me with negative ads for over a year, and I think they were like, dang, it's not crushing them the way we thought, so let's cheat, so they recruit this guy."

Sullivan’s race gained national attention as Democrats allegedly recruited a retiree also named Dan Sullivan to run against the incumbent to confuse voters.

The Division of Elections was like, ‘Wait, you can't do that; that's not even your middle initial.’ Then, he tried to steal my middle initial, then he stole my website and my logo."

Podcast co-host Josh Holmes explained the alleged scheme:

"[The Democrats can’t beat Dan Sullivan] so what they've tried to do is get somebody with a Dan Sullivan on the ballot line that they confuse enough people," Holmes said. "Even if it's like, 2, 3, 4 or 5% on the ballot to get them into the margin where they can be competitive in a general election."

The senator, first elected in 2014, doesn’t think the alleged gimmick will pay out for the Democrats.

"I'll tell you this, guys, I think it's gonna backfire," Sullivan said. "Because when I've been out, and I'm home every weekend, working at parades, nobody works harder than me and my team. People are mad."

Peltola, the leading candidate in the Democratic primary, served in the House of Representatives following a special election after Don Young’s passing. His campaign has denied any involvement with the other Sullivan campaign.

The expected race in Alaska could be the deciding race for control of the Senate. Fox News’ most recent projection classifies the race as a toss-up, along with the races in Iowa, Maine and Ohio.

Cardinals tight end Travis Vokolek retires at age 28 after suffering severe neck injury during 2025 season

The Arizona Cardinals’ roster took a huge hit on Wednesday.

Cardinals tight end Travis Vokolek announced he was retiring from the sport at 28 after he suffered a neck injury during a game against the Indianapolis Colts. Vokolek was blocking during a kickoff and landed awkwardly after hitting a Colts player. He needed to be stretchered off the field.

The 28-year-old said in a post on social media he was retiring from the sport on doctor’s advice.

"After numerous visits with doctors and neurologists over the past couple of months, I have been advised to medically retire from the NFL due to a serious neck injury that I suffered this past season," he wrote in a post on social media. "I am extremely grateful and blessed to have been able to live out my childhood dream of playing football at the highest level for the past three years. Football has taught me many life lessons and given me unforgettable memories.

"I am forever grateful to all my teammates, coaches, trainers, and others who have supported my family and I along the way. A sincere thank you to the Arizona Cardinals training staff for being first class with the care and support they provided my family and I during this hard time."

He thanked his wife for being by his side the entire time as he tried to recover from the neck injury.

"I have attacked everyday of being a professional football player with passion, determination, and discipline," he added. "I can say that I truly left everything out on the field. Thank you for all of the love and support. Lastly, thank you football!"

Vokolek played college football with Rutgers and Nebraska before deciding to turn pro. He initially joined the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2023 but didn’t see time on the field with the team.

Chicago is the shining example of how soft-on-crime policies devastate families across our nation. It is the epicenter of a political failure so profound and so deliberate that its consequences have spread to cities all across America. Those who have chosen to put virtue signaling ahead of victims have turned one of America's great cities into a graveyard of broken promises. The families paying the price are not the politicians who made those promises. They are the mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters who have lost not one, but in some cases, multiple loved ones to violent crime.

Are sanctuary city policies destroying these communities? Yes. Is it the elimination of cash bail? Yes. Is it elected officials who have fought harder for criminals than for the public they were elected to serve? Yes. It is all of the above and more.

Illinois became the first state in the nation to completely eliminate cash bail through the SAFE-T Act, a law that allows judges the discretion to release violent offenders without requiring them to post any money or collateral — simply by signing a form promising to return to court. No money. No bond. No consequence.

The results speak for themselves. Through the first six months of 2026, Chicago recorded 210 homicides, a nearly 6% increase compared to the same period in 2025, with 686 shooting incidents leaving 858 people wounded or killed across the city. These are not statistics. These are people. These are families. These are futures stolen.

Some will point to the fact that nationally, homicide rates fell dramatically in 2025, reaching what researchers called the lowest level since at least 1900. Good. But let's be honest about why. That progress did not come from the policies championed by blue city mayors. It came in spite of them.

President Donald Trump directed U.S. Marshals Service Director Gadyaces Serralta to lead a coordinated crime surge operation across America's most dangerous cities, bringing together 31 federal agencies to take violent criminals off the streets. In Washington, D.C., alone, murders dropped 60%, robberies dropped 50%, and carjackings fell a staggering 70%. The Memphis task force surpassed 4,000 arrests. Nationally, U.S. Marshals arrested over 73,000 fugitives in 2025 alone. Now in 2026, with Chicago already trending back upward, you can see exactly what happens when a city refuses that help. Mayor Brandon Johnson signed executive orders directing Chicago police to withhold cooperation from federal agents, vowing publicly that his city "will not ever cooperate with ICE." Gov. JB Pritzker has sued the federal government rather than work with it. Families are paying that price.

The political class has not only chosen to look away. In some cases, they have openly insulted the families left behind. Just weeks ago, Democratic Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal sat before Angel Families, meaning families of Americans killed by illegal immigrants, and told them: "Unfortunately, this hearing is the fourth time in this committee that we've had a hearing on sanctuary cities. There's many other things that we could be doing." A member of Congress sat in front of grieving mothers and fathers and told them their children's lives were not worth her time. Let that settle in.

Jessica Gorman, whose 18-year-old daughter Sheridan was shot and killed at the Chicago lakefront while walking with friends to see the Northern Lights, responded directly: "Thanks for telling me without telling me that you're here, but you don't want to be, for telling me you don't care." Sheridan was a freshman from Westchester County, New York, with her whole life mapped out in front of her. The man charged with her murder, Jose Medina-Medina, was a Venezuelan national apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol in May 2023 and released into the country under the Biden administration, even after officials flagged him as likely to abscond and noted he had no verifiable address or contact information. He was released due to, in their words, a lack of space. He was later arrested for shoplifting in Chicago and released again before he allegedly took Sheridan's life. Chicago's sanctuary policies made it possible. Gov. Pritzker and Mayor Johnson's leadership made it inevitable.

Maybe if they stopped enabling the policies that create Angel Families, Congresswoman Jayapal wouldn't have as many hearings to complain about. They refuse to stop. So we refuse to be silent.

The victims' families marching with me Saturday know what it means to be failed by a system built by elected officials who put criminals first. We are starting our march at Morgan Park High School, where my brother Christian walked the halls and where, four years later, our family still searches for the justice he deserved. We are extending a direct invitation to Gov. JB Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson: come march with us. Come look these families in the face. Come see the devastation your policies have caused. You have governed from behind podiums and press releases long enough. Come stand in front of the people your decisions have failed.

Chicago is where we start. But this fight is national. This march is for every family in America that has buried a loved one while politicians made excuses. It is for the Angel Families who traveled to Washington over and over, begging lawmakers to act, only to be told there are more important things to discuss. FDA to review 7 popular peptides touted for weight loss, healing and longevity

The Food and Drug Administration is taking a closer look this week at seven unapproved peptide substances that have surged in popularity for their purported health benefits.

At meetings scheduled for July 23 and 24 at the FDA’s White Oak Campus in Silver Spring, Maryland, the FDA’s Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee will consider whether to recommend adding seven peptide substances to the agency’s 503A Bulks List, which would allow them to be used in certain compounded prescription drugs.

Although these peptides are not FDA-approved, they are widely available through wellness clinics, compounding operations and gray-market online sellers.

HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has voiced support for expanding access to certain peptide therapies, while FDA reviewers have raised concerns about the limited evidence supporting the safety and effectiveness of the seven substances under consideration.

According to Reuters, consumer demand is likely to "remain strong" despite the outcome, as peptides have surged in popularity for weight loss, muscle building, performance enhancement, chronic disease management and even wound repair.

FDA documents show that the following seven peptides are under review.

Performance potential

Performance medicine and peptide expert Dr. Alex Tatem, a board-certified urologist and member of Rugiet's Medical Advisory Board, will testify at this week's FDA hearings.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Indiana-based Tatem said that every product up for review is "exciting," as each targets a different problem faced by patients.

"BPC-157 or TB-500 are compounds that can help facilitate healing after injury and have been shown in multiple studies to be incredibly safe when administered — which is interesting when you compare that to the over-the-counter options that we use now for aches and pains, like ibuprofen," he said.

Although ibuprofen is available over the counter, the FDA warns that it can cause serious side effects — including stomach bleeding, kidney damage and cardiovascular complications — especially when used at high doses or for long periods.

Tatem claimed that millions of BPC-157 doses have been administered and that relatively few adverse events have been reported.

"There is no other drug on the market that had that sort of safety record," Tatem said. "And it's not because of any magic — it's because these are natural substances that our bodies make and are familiar with, so that's what gives them this incredible safety profile."

The FDA, however, has publicly stated that there is not enough evidence from human clinical trials on the safety or efficacy of these drugs. FDA reviewers have also cautioned that a peptide’s similarity to a naturally occurring substance does not eliminate potential risks.

Fox News senior medical analyst Dr. Marc Siegel cautioned that these substances "need careful study."

According to the doctor, RFK Jr. told Siegel in their latest interview that he believes "not all peptides are created equal, whereas some are helpful, others may not be and need further study."

"I agree with that," Siegel told Fox News Digital. "I’m concerned about the impact some may have on the kidneys. I would like to see rigorous clinical trials before approval. I am not convinced the data is fully there yet."

Next steps

Tatem said he expects the hearings to be a "hard-fought battle," but hopes committee members will consider what he described as real-world data from tens of millions of doses administered between 2014 and 2023. The data showed adverse event rates of "well under 0.1%," he added.

If the committee recommends inclusion, the FDA would still need to complete its review and rulemaking process before formally adding any of the substances to the 503A Bulks List.

That list includes active ingredients that state-licensed pharmacies are legally permitted to use for compounding prescription drugs, Tatem said.

He also suggested that the FDA could place some substances under a more permissive enforcement category temporarily while the rulemaking process continues. (The agency has not announced that it intends to do so.)

"Ultimately, what we would hope is, before the end of the year, patients would be able to go to their doctor, work through maybe a telehealth provider, and then be able to get a prescription for this under monitored medical supervision," he said.

"The most important thing to take away is that your voice matters, because this committee is just issuing a recommendation to the FDA. The FDA can take it or leave it," Tatem noted. "Everything that happens afterward is still anyone's guess."

Tatem encourages people to reach out to their local representatives to request access to "safe, regulated peptides made here in the United States of America."

USA Today writer says Caitlin Clark puts Black and queer WNBA players 'in danger' by flopping

USA Today columnist Nancy Armour wants Caitlin Clark to stop flopping and berating WNBA officials.

Plenty of people agree with that take, including OutKick's Dan Dakich.

Others would argue that Clark’s frustration is understandable, given the physical treatment she has received and the WNBA’s inconsistent officiating. Either way, Armour is well within her rights to criticize Clark’s behavior on the court.

But Armour’s latest column goes much further than that. Much, much further.

Armour argues that Clark’s reactions to missed calls put "Black" and "queer" WNBA players "in danger," essentially blaming Clark for alleged racist messages sent by people she doesn’t know and has publicly condemned.

No, this is not satire.

SPORTS MEDIA HAS CREATED AN ‘INDUSTRY’ OUT OF COMPLAINING ABOUT WHITE ATHLETES LIKE CAITLIN CLARK

The column begins by declaring that Clark and her "enablers must take the rest of us for idiots." Armour points to two recent plays, one involving Chelsea Gray and another involving Kiah Stokes, as proof that Clark exaggerates contact and creates false narratives about opposing players.

As far as the Gray play, Armour and others have pointed out that Clark didn't go to the floor until after the whistle, suggesting that she was pretending to be hurt.

But anyone who understands sports beyond using them as a vehicle for political commentary knows that athletes routinely play through pain while the action is still live, then react once the whistle blows. Clark waiting until the play ended before going down doesn't prove that she faked an injury.

The second play shows that this column isn't really about whether Clark flops. Armour is using disputed basketball plays to push a left-wing narrative about "Black and queer" women in the WNBA.

Armour claims video disproves Clark’s injury

During Indiana’s July 15 loss to Golden State, Clark drove to the basket and Stokes collided with her. Clark made the layup, fell to the floor and got up limping. She then charged toward an official to complain about the no-call before briefly going to the locker room.

Clark later said Stokes kneed her in the quad and that she played the remainder of the game with a contusion.

Armour puts "contusion" in quotation marks and says the replay showed minimal contact.

The slow-motion video shows Stokes’ knee hitting Clark in the exact area Clark identified. While the contact didn't appear to be malicious, like some of the contact Clark has endured during her WNBA career, it still clearly happened.

That doesn't necessarily mean officials missed a foul. Clark initiated some of the contact while driving to the basket, and reasonable people can disagree about whether the play deserved a whistle. Personally, I thought the contact was incidental and didn't deserve a foul call.

But there is a major difference between arguing that the contact was not a foul and suggesting Clark fabricated or exaggerated the injury.

Armour didn't examine Clark. She's certainly not a doctor or a trainer. She watched a replay and decided that Clark couldn't have suffered a contusion.

That's quite a medical diagnosis from someone with no medical training who never evaluated the patient.

It also weakens the entire premise of Armour’s column. Her argument depends on Clark falsely portraying "Black" and "queer" opponents as aggressors. Yet neither example she cites proves anything.

ANGEL REESE’S LATEST WNBA CONTROVERSY SHOWS HOW VICTIMHOOD BECAME CENTRAL TO HER BRAND

After the Fever’s victory over Las Vegas, Gray shared a direct message in which a man used a racial slur against her. Social media users identified the sender, and Hilton Grand Vacations later fired him.

Armour uses that message as evidence that Clark’s behavior puts Black and queer WNBA players in danger.

But what does Clark actually have to do with it?

Armour offers no evidence that Clark knew the sender, communicated with him or encouraged anyone to contact Gray. There's also no evidence that the man is even a fan of Clark or the Indiana Fever.

Maybe he was a Clark fan, maybe he wasn't. Maybe he was a sports bettor angry about a lost bet. Maybe he wasn't. The point is that Armour doesn’t know, and neither do we.

But she was quick to take a social media message sent by a stranger, assume it was motivated by Clark’s reaction to a foul call and then hold Clark responsible for it, with zero evidence.

And this isn’t the first time Armour has worked backward to make Clark the problem.

After DiJonai Carrington poked Clark in the eye during the 2024 playoffs, leaving Clark with a black eye, Armour wrote that Clark needed to "call out the toxic segment of her fan base." Both Clark and Carrington said the contact was not intentional, but Clark was the player left with a black eye. Yet Armour decided Carrington was the victim and Clark was the perpetrator.

What Nancy Armour didn’t write about

Now, let's contrast those incidents with what Armour didn't feel the need to write a column about.

Last month, Alyssa Thomas drove her fist to Clark’s throat during a game between the Fever and Mercury. Officials didn’t call a foul, but the WNBA reviewed the play afterward, assessed Thomas a Flagrant 2 and suspended her for one game for "recklessly making contact" with Clark’s throat area.

Armour doesn't appear to have written a single word about that, at least not that I could find.

There was no demand from Armour that Thomas consider the wider consequences of her behavior. No lecture about how her actions might inflame an already toxic situation involving the league’s most visible player.

But a troll sent Gray a nasty message after a different game, and Armour suddenly had enough concern about player safety to write an entire column blaming Clark.

There are people who treat words on the internet as equal to physical violence, if not worse. Armour’s coverage certainly suggests she belongs in that group. Thomas struck Clark in the throat. Stokes kneed Clark in the quad. Carrington poked Clark in the eye. Chennedy Carter hip-checked Clark when her back was turned. The list goes on.

Yet, Armour casts Clark as the dangerous person.

Clark is the one constantly subjected to excessive physicality from other WNBA players, and Armour still finds a way to make the aftermath her responsibility. When someone else receives an ugly message online, Clark gets blamed for that, too.

No matter what happens, Armour arrives at the same conclusion: Caitlin Clark is the problem.

And her argument becomes even harder to defend when considering what Clark has already said.

In June 2024, Clark told people not to use her name to push racist or misogynistic agendas, calling it "disappointing" and "not acceptable."

She later went through the required ritual of acknowledging her "White privilege" and crediting Black players with building the WNBA during a Time magazine profile.

Then, earlier this month, Clark opened a media availability with a five-minute statement condemning harassment and hate directed at opponents, teammates and coaches.

"The harassment, the hate, none of that is okay," Clark said. She again told people not to use her name to advance their own agendas.

Apparently, none of that is good enough for Nancy Armour.

But if you think Armour had already taken this argument too far, we’ve got some bad news.

She wasn’t done.

Armour then invoked Emmett Till.

Again, not satire.

"The WNBA's All-Star Game this weekend is in Chicago, Emmett Till's hometown, and a local art gallery is currently hosting an exhibit imagining his life if he hadn't been lynched. While it’s incumbent on the WNBA to do more to protect its players, there also should be an expectation on Clark to recognize the wider consequences of her actions," Armour wrote.

Wow.

By invoking Till, Armour invites readers to connect Clark complaining about disputed foul calls to the history of false accusations by white women leading to violence against Black people.

Clark didn't falsely accuse Gray or Stokes of committing a crime. She certainly didn't ask anyone to harm them.

She complained about the referees during a basketball game.

Not only that, Armour doesn't identify a single incident in which a Black or "queer" WNBA player was physically assaulted by a stranger because of something Caitlin Clark said or did.

Her alleged danger is entirely hypothetical.

Meanwhile, some of the most serious, documented off-court safety incidents in women's basketball have involved Clark, Sophie Cunningham and Paige Bueckers. Men have been arrested and charged with stalking all three players.

Clark's stalker traveled to Indianapolis and sent her hundreds of threatening and sexually explicit messages. Paige Bueckers' stalker flew across the country with an engagement ring and lingerie because he believed he was going to marry her. Earlier this year, another man was charged with stalking Cunningham after allegedly sending threatening messages and delivering a package to Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

All three players are White.

Those cases don't prove that only white players face danger. They do show how backwards Armour's argument is. She has no documented example of Clark's behavior causing someone to physically attack a Black or "queer" player, yet she invokes Emmett Till while portraying Clark as a threat to their safety.

The actual arrests tell a very different story.

But Armour isn't following the evidence. She's forcing Clark into a racial and political narrative that has little to do with what actually happens on the court.

That is exactly what NBA Commissioner Adam Silver recently criticized when he said it was "incredibly unfair" that Clark had become a political football when she simply wants to focus on basketball.

Armour’s column proves his point.

A discussion about Clark flopping and mistreating officials turns into an argument about white nationalism, American racial violence, queer identity and Emmett Till. Talk about hitting every left-wing talking point and even throwing in a few extras.

Then her entire column requires readers to ignore video evidence, ignore Clark’s words and accept that a professional athlete is responsible for racist strangers she has never met and has publicly condemned.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., came under fire after claiming the House-passed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) would "merge parts of our military with the Israel Defense Forces," drawing accusations that she distorted what the legislation actually does.

The fight centers on Section 219 of the House-passed National Defense Authorization Act, a provision that calls for deeper U.S.-Israel defense integration through expanded cooperation on military technology, supply chains, research, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and joint exercises.

On Wednesday, the House passed its version of the FY2027 NDAA in a 219-206 vote, leaving Section 219 intact.

But ahead of the vote, Ocasio-Cortez wrote on X that the NDAA "includes a provision to merge parts of our military with the IDF."

"This amendment is an existential threat to American sovereignty and democracy," she wrote. "Every member of Congress must vote NO."

Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., similarly blasted Ocasio-Cortez, calling on her to "stop stoking Jew hatred."

"Good grief, you are either obtuse or intentionally lying. We are not merging our military with the IDF," Lawler wrote.

Lawler argued the provision simply expands the type of defense cooperation the United States already maintains with close allies, including intelligence sharing, joint military exercises and collaborative weapons development.

While Republicans disputed Ocasio-Cortez's description, some lawmakers who opposed the provision also expressed concern about its scope but framed it differently.

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., introduced an amendment to strip Section 219 from the legislation, but House leadership did not allow it to receive a vote. After the procedural rule passed, Massie announced he would oppose the entire defense bill.

"Unfortunately the Rule passed just now and no debate or vote was allowed on section 219, integration of US military technology and supply chains with Israel's," Massie wrote on X. "The NDAA will receive a recorded vote tomorrow with section 219 in it. I'll vote no."

Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., who partnered with Massie on the amendment, also criticized House leadership for blocking a vote, writing that Congress had prevented consideration of a proposal to stop "the integration of our military with Israel's."

"It is unconscionable to not even have a vote," Khanna wrote on X. "We will be continuing on and will not be intimidated by the pro-Israel lobby."

Officials from Nolan Wells' hometown are rallying behind their sheriff after being accused of being "derelict in their duties" on Wednesday morning.

NAACP President Derrick Johnson accused Mississippi officials of failing to properly handle the case during the same news conference where attorney Ben Crump announced the independent autopsy results.

"We're not accusing anyone of anything other than the state of Mississippi and local officials. We're accusing them of being derelict in their duties," Johnson said. "To follow up and to ensure that regardless of what happened, that there was the proper investigation so that this family and that community could be assured that if anyone was involved, they would be held accountable."

Wells, 18, disappeared July 4 after he went with friends on a boat trip to Horn Island, which is a barrier island off Mississippi's Gulf Coast. Mississippi state Sen. Jeremy England, who represents a portion of Jackson County, where the incident took place, told Fox News Digital the accusation by Johnson was "completely unfair."

"Our sheriff and our district attorney here in Jackson County, our DPS commissioner over the state of Mississippi law enforcement, our crime lab, the offices they put together, I know many of them personally and professionally, and they have the utmost integrity and they want to get the facts correct and get out there. You know, they understand they're under a microscope at this point in time, but they're being unfairly attacked," England said. "For no reason other than people trying to make shocking claims and get people to think something nefarious has happened or is going on."

"But these are very good people, and it's really disheartening to see their name and their reputation being dragged through the mud," England said.

"There's not always someone to blame," he said. "And here in Mississippi, we don't have and we don't follow what you see in some other states and some other communities where you have activist district attorneys and activist sheriffs, and they're listening to the public and they're wanting to respond to the public."

"Our leaders, the people in that office, they don't do that. They take their time, they make sure they get it right, and they're doing that out of respect for the family and for the entire community at this point," England said.

Congressman Mike Ezell, R-Miss., told Fox News Digital he has complete confidence in the current Jackson County sheriff, John Ledbetter, who is running the investigation.

During Wednesday's news conference, Crump revealed that an area of "red discoloration" was found on Wells' head, but said Dr. Roger Mitchell, who performed the autopsy, couldn't come to a conclusion on a cause or manner of death "pending further investigation." An official autopsy into Wells' death hasn't been completed.

When asked by Fox News Digital about the case, forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden said the head injury doesn't point to foul play.

"So that could be from bumping into something in the water. There's a lot of debris in the water, for example. It depends how deep it is, but it's describing a really superficial impact that could have happened before death or after death," Baden said. "What he's describing is a minor injury that could be... totally innocent."

Without having additional information, Mitchell wrote in his report that he couldn't rule out the possibility that "non-accidental factors contributed to or caused the death."

The independent autopsy's release comes as Rev. Al Sharpton said he's offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the death of Wells. Authorities previously told the Associated Press that foul play isn't suspected.

Wells' friends returned to the mainland that afternoon without him. Ledbetter has said investigators believe Wells chose to stay on the island. It wasn't until later that night that his mother learned he was missing from one of Wells' friends and reported it to authorities.

Buc-ee's is fueling debate online after a sign displaying employee pay rates revealed that some store managers can earn as much as $275,000 a year without a college degree.

The pay scale, which has circulated widely on social media, lists cashiers, warehouse workers, maintenance employees and grocery stockers starting at $20 an hour. Food service managers can earn between $150,000 and $200,000 annually, while general managers can make between $200,000 and $275,000.

The listed salaries and benefits sparked discussion on X, with some users calling them proof that six-figure careers don't always require a college degree, while others argued the salaries reflect the pressure and responsibility that come with managing one of the chain's massive stores.

"Buc-ee's appeal is largely due to its large size," Bowman said. "People, especially those who love a good road trip, have long loved roadside attractions. That's what Buc-ee's has become."

The Texas-based chain's reputation for spotless restrooms, extensive food offerings and memorable branding has helped build a devoted following, Bowman said.

"If you're in need of a quick stop, this place isn't quite made for that," he said. "You might have to wait for the bathroom. And you might easily get sucked into seeing what all is for sale in the non-food section. After all, it is its own roadside attraction now with a cult-like following."

The salaries quickly sparked debate on X, with many users arguing the pay demonstrates there are lucrative careers outside the traditional college path.

"There are well-paying jobs available if you look for them," one commenter wrote. "They may not be glamorous, they may not be what you dreamed of... but they are there."

Another user said the pay scale makes "a compelling case" for younger generations to rethink taking on significant student debt for a college degree.

Others, however, argued the salaries should be viewed alongside the demanding workload required to manage one of the country's busiest travel centers.

SEN RAND PAUL: DC's Russia sanctions bill won't stop Putin — but it will hurt you

Congress may soon consider the Senator Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia Act of 2026 — a bill that epitomizes how out of touch Washington’s foreign policy establishment is with everyday Americans. The legislation is the latest counterproductive attempt to hold Russia accountable for its war against Ukraine, now well into its fifth year. But don’t let sympathy for Ukraine fool you: this legislation is a tariff bill that seems to have been written with such blind rage that, rather than compel a change in Vladimir Putin’s behavior, its punitive measures would make American families poorer and undermine our national interests.

The Graham Sanction/Tariff bill, if passed, will likely be the largest tax increase ever passed by a Republican Congress and cost the American people half a trillion dollars. The bill would slap a 500% tariff on all U.S. trade with Russia and give the president unilateral authority to impose up to 100% tariffs on all goods imported into the United States from the top five largest importers of Russian crude oil or natural gas and countries who facilitate Russian oil sanctions evasion.

Those countries currently encompass China, India, Japan, Azerbaijan France, Hungary, Belgium and Slovakia — with the addition of Russia, this encompasses nearly 40% of the world’s total population. While some countries may be exempted if they work to reduce Russian energy imports, the list of penalized countries is subject to change every 180 days. U.S. partners such as Turkey, Brazil, South Korea and the European Union, that continue to import Russian oil and gas out of necessity, may soon find themselves put on the list.

This tax will, of course, be collected primarily on the American companies who import goods from these countries. When tariffs are placed on products made in China, the average American pays that tax when they shop at Walmart or any other store that offers Chinese-made products. One way to understand how tariffs work is to look at who is applying to get refunds since the Supreme Court struck down the emergency tariffs — Walmart, Costco, Home Depot, Target, General Motors and UPS are among the companies expected to receive billions of dollars in refunds. China isn’t on the refund list because China doesn’t pay the tariffs. American importers and retailers pay the tariffs, and they pass the cost of the tariffs onto you, the consumer.

While Vice President JD Vance may disdain the legacy of Milton Friedman, Friedman’s genius was in pointing out that tariffs are sold as "protective measures" when, in reality, a tariff only "protects the consumer very well against one thing… low prices."

If the tax proves so onerous as to prevent trade with these countries, the disruption to our economy could be worse than the Smoot-Hawley tariffs that exacerbated the Great Depression. Smoot-Hawley raised the average tariff by 20%, which almost seems quaint compared to the increases threatened by the Graham legislation.

China and India, in particular, are vital U.S. trade partners. In 2025, the United States imported over $308 billion worth of goods from China and over $103 billion from India. Middle- and low-income Americans enjoy a higher quality of life when they have more purchasing power for everyday necessities. Imposing a 100% tariff on all goods imported from these countries is the economic equivalent of shooting ourselves in the foot. What are we going to say to the minimum-wage workers who need to buy a new part to fix their car so they can get to work, the parents trying to buy their kids new shoes for the school year, or the single mother buying diapers, when they notice that prices have doubled?

Perhaps the geniuses who think it’s a good idea to pursue policies that raise prices during an election year when Americans’ primary concern is the cost of living aren’t so smart after all.

It is also unclear how tariffs could even be imposed on members of the European Union, like Slovakia and Hungary, as the EU handles trade as a unified bloc. In 2025, U.S.-EU bilateral trade was over $1 trillion. Trying to tariff individual EU countries may very well result in the EU retaliating in unison against the United States — an economically disastrous possibility for American families.

The bill also imposes more futile sanctions on Russian officials and companies. Russia is subject to over 26,000 sanctions and no one can point to any change in Russia’s behavior. Additionally, the bill bans U.S. citizens from conducting business and investment in Russia, and gives the president authority to sanction any foreign person he determines is undermining Ukraine.

What that means in practice is anyone’s guess. Our Polish ally recently had a significant diplomatic fallout with the Ukrainian government as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy named a military unit in honor of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army — a militant group responsible for the murder of some 100,000 Poles during World War II. Is the Polish government undermining Ukraine? Is Congress really prepared to give the president unilateral authority to sanction some of our most steadfast allies?

To top it off, the bill includes a mechanism for Congress to prevent a president from removing tariffs or sanctions, but no way for Congress itself to remove them. This authority could therefore last far beyond President Donald Trump and who knows in what manner a future president may seek to abuse such power.

It is foolhardy to think that Russia, having sustained some 1.4 million casualties, thousands of economic sanctions and over four years of economic isolation, will now come to the negotiating table because the United States decides to tariff third countries. Moscow may in fact welcome the United States inflicting unnecessary economic self-harm and further degrading its relations with many of the world’s other great powers like India, whose rise could serve U.S. interests in our competition with China. Instead, we may drive India into the open arms of the People’s Republic.

Congress should reject this misguided bill that will do nothing to bring peace to Ukraine, but rather raise prices for American consumers, further weaken the dollar and destroy U.S. relations around the globe.

Veterans fought for these benefits. Congress can finally give them what they need

Somewhere tonight, a combat-injured veteran who was medically retired before completing 20 years of service is doing the math on a check that is smaller than it should be. The law still forces veterans to trade away part of the retirement pay they earned in order to receive the disability compensation they are owed.

Down the hall, someone who loves that veteran is doing math of their own. This caregiver is one of 14.3 million military and veteran caregivers in this country, and the work they do without pay is worth upwards of $400 billion a year. Many caregivers left their jobs and sacrificed their income and retirement savings to care for a loved one, absorbing costs they were never meant to bear alone. They have been waiting for needed support too.

That was not their choice. Congress made it, and Congress has left it in place for years. Recently, that pattern repeated. The House was scheduled to vote on this bill that would address this head on, but unfortunately, that did not come to fruition.

For the veteran doing the math tonight, that is not an abstraction. It is the distance between what they were promised and what they receive.

For the caregiver beside them, and for the surviving spouses this bill also reaches, it means support the country has long owed and rarely delivered. It is the kind of help that lets veterans heal at home, among the people who know them best, rather than alone.

VETERANS COULD DECIDE THE MIDTERMS, AND THE VA IS WHY

We know the package has drawn hard questions about how it is paid for. The Veterans Administration (VA) proposed a rule related to sleep apnea and tinnitus that would generate cost savings. Despite objections from the American Legion and other large veteran service organizations, the VA has not withdrawn this proposed rule and testified that it would be finalized by the end of this fiscal year.

The VA has since confirmed it intends to move forward with those changes. That confirmation narrows the choice to two paths: the rule is withdrawn, or this bill passes and the savings stay with the men and women who earned them and their families. That means if we don’t act, billions of dollars will be returned to the Treasury and go from supporting veterans to funding other causes.

MORNING GLORY: President Trump, Iran and Napoleon’s still-relevant maxim

The future of the West and President Donald Trump’s reputation within it through the centuries will depend on the outcome of the ongoing battle with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

America is decisively winning that battle, but it has not yet won it. In fact, the U.S. could lose the battle. If President Trump perseveres, that will not happen. If he abandons the battle, it could very well be the worst foreign policy debacle for the U.S. since the end of the Vietnam War, rivaling even that of the catastrophe of President Joe Biden’s command to American forces to quickly depart Afghanistan in 2021.

Because of those two competing futures, it is highly likely that President Trump will persevere. And he should.

IRAN IS NOT A NORMAL NATION YOU CAN MAKE DEALS WITH; IT’S A NATIONAL SECURITY THREAT

Iran is run by religious fanatics. That is the overarching reality about the defining threat Iran poses to the region and indeed the world. The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps ("IRGC") cannot be "deterred" in the way other evil tyrannies can be deterred.

Xi Jinping can be deterred. Vladimir Putin can be deterred. Both have no evident desire to die, or for history to end.

Iran cannot be deterred from its mission to destroy Israel and the United States, because destruction and even defeat in this battle is not what ultimately matters the most to the theocrats atop the Islamic Republic. "Martyrdom" is itself the best result for any individual caught up in Khomeinism. "Regime survival" is a secondary goal to its leadership’s personal worldview, an extreme version of a minority branch of Islam often called "Twelver" theology.

IRAN TO EXECUTE FIRST FEMALE PROTESTER TIED TO ANTI-REGIME UNREST

The defining belief of Twelver Shi’ism is that the Twelfth Imam, Muhammad al-Mahdi, did not die, entered occultation (a state of concealment) in the 9th century, remains alive by God’s will and will return at the end of time as the Mahdi to establish justice and peace. A group within "Twelver" believers assert that turmoil may help usher in the Mahdi’s return.

When Iran’s first tyrant, Ayatollah Khomeini, drank the infamous "poisoned chalice" and accepted a 1988 ceasefire with Iraq in the brutal 1980-1988 war, that "Supreme Leader" did not remotely fear a popular uprising by his own people. Khomeini believed that he had time on his side for the instrument of worldwide salvation that he believed the Islamic Republic to be.

Today’s dictator, Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp Commander-in-Chief Ahmed Vahidi, knows the regime is already on borrowed time. Shattered and facing a ruined economy experiencing hyperinflation that will only grow worse, the economy cannot support the 90+ million who depend on it. That means inevitable rebellion by the people followed by revolution against the IRGC.

Vahidi’s predecessor in the role of top tyrant, the now dead Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, took the "Tiananmen Square" option when hundreds of thousands if not millions of protesters took to the Iranian streets in January of this year. Like Chinese dictator Deng Xiaoping in 1989, Khamenei ordered the murder of as many citizens as it took in January to suppress the sort of uprising that threatened the regime.

That wicked choice worked — once — in China in 1989. It worked again in January in Iran. Popular uprisings in both countries were brutally repressed.

But as countless dictators have found out, from Assad in Syria and Gadhafi in Libya to Ceausescu in Romania and Jaruzelski in Poland and Honecker in East Germany, among dozens of other toppled tyrants, a regime that survives because of tens of thousands of secret police and their auxiliaries cannot stand against a people of millions, much less tens of millions, absent the sort of surveillance state China has built and brutally enforced.

Iran does not have that surveillance state. Vahidi knows his already badly weakened regime cannot survive years into the future. That fact means the religious mission — the prime directive of "Twelver theology" — cannot again be made subservient to "regime survival" as it was in 1988. If the regime isn’t going to survive and its leaders know that, they must act with increasing violence to serve the mission of destroying the "Little Satan" of Israel and preparing the way for the Hidden Imam.

So Vahidi and his minions will never ever agree to anything other than ruses that allow them to seek the WMD with which to destroy Israel and perhaps trigger the return of the "occulted Hidden Imam." Study what Pickaxe Mountain is and what end it must serve. It’s the last best chance for Iran to "break out" and obtain a nuclear weapon. Our heaviest and most destructive ordinance, the "bunker busters" President Trump used to obliterate Iran’s second most deeply-buried nuclear weapons facility at Fordow, may not work against Pickaxe. Bombing around the site may set back construction, but it cannot destroy the caverns and everything the Islamic Republic is building within it.

That’s the set of facts that sits before President Trump: A regime run by religious fanatics, one rich in oil revenues if allowed to resume the export of oil, and one executing its back-up plan to build nukes in a cavern so deep it cannot be destroyed by conventional weaponry.

Both the First Gulf War and the second war with Iraq were "perfectly executed half maneuvers," the sort of strategic hesitation in the middle of a grand plan that leads to military defeat. So too, it is often argued, was the invasion of Afghanistan.

Of many famous maxims about war from this millennium, perhaps the most famous is the one attributed to Napoleon that is featured in the subtitle: "If you start to take Vienna, take Vienna."

That maxim has never been verified as having been said by France’s military genius but is often cited because in that sentence is contained worlds of strategic thinking refined into eight words. The sharp point is to pursue a military campaign in pursuit of a grand strategic goal to its successful conclusion. Tactical victories or defeats do not matter. Once begun, pursue the battle to its successful conclusion. Half measures or abandoned plans are lethal to a nation’s victory and survival.

Arkansas cop tragically dies saving fiancée's life just hours after proposing

An Arkansas police officer drowned after entering a river to save his fiancée just hours after proposing to her, according to her mother.

Fred Marsh, 24, of the Rogers Police Department, entered Missouri’s Elk River on Saturday to help another swimmer and did not resurface, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. His fiancée’s mother identified that swimmer as her daughter. Marsh was recovered and pronounced dead Sunday after asking his fiancée, Hailey, to marry him Saturday morning.

"They had been together for three beautiful years, and they had a very beautiful, loving relationship," Sheryl Padgett told KHBS. "Even though legally he was not my son-in-law, he will forever be my son."

The pair, who had been together for three years, were out canoeing with another couple on the river near Noel, Missouri, when Hailey entered the water and began struggling against the current while trying to return to the boat.

Marsh and a fellow Rogers police officer who was with them then jumped into the water to help her, Padgett said. They were able to move her to safety, but Marsh became distressed and exhausted, went underwater and never resurfaced, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

"He saw the love of his life in distress, and he was going to help his friend and do what a good human would do," Padgett said. "He gave his life helping someone else."

Padgett said Marsh was loving, hardworking and guided by his Christian faith, emphasizing that he never hesitated when someone needed help.

"There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for anyone," Padgett said. "You didn’t have to tell him. You didn’t have to beg him. He just was willing and would jump in there and do whatever it took to help someone."

Padgett said she had lost her only son in a fatal accident four years earlier. She began calling Marsh her son soon after he started dating her daughter.

"We instantly made a connection and a bond," she said. "I called him son, and he called me mama."

A motorcade escorted Marsh’s body through Northwest Arkansas on Monday as people lined up along the route to honor him. Padgett said the response from law enforcement and the community showed the impact Marsh had made on many others.

"They made it very clear that Fred was not just their family, but so was my daughter, my family and, even more importantly, Fred’s family," Padgett said.

Marsh was in his first year with the Rogers Police Department. He graduated from the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy in April and only recently started working as an officer.

A GoFundMe created for Hailey by her sister to cover her lease, bills and other unforeseen expenses has raised nearly $2,000 as of Thursday morning.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Marsh’s family, and Padgett said the family expects officers, former classmates, childhood friends and others from across the state to attend.

"Let’s do something in Fred’s honor," Padgett said. "Be kind to your fellow man. When Fred loved, he loved with everything he had, and he loved well."

Nicaragua's parliament plans to eliminate elections to codify President Ortega's declaration

Nicaragua's lawmakers announced plans to abolish elections in the Central American country, following through on President Daniel Ortega's declaration over the weekend that there would be no more elections, which enraged the international community.

The move was revealed on Tuesday by Nicaragua's congress, which is firmly in the hands of Ortega and his wife, Rosario Murillo. Lawmakers said the planned constitutional overhaul will ensure Nicaragua's "peace, security and stability."

With the announcement, lawmakers are making good on Ortega's promise of no more elections, further closing off any potential path for the opposition to challenge the government he leads with Murillo, whom constitutional reforms elevated from vice president to "co-president."

"There won't be any more elections here for them to try to seize the government and seize power," Ortega said on Sunday during a speech commemorating the 1979 Sandinista revolution, in which Ortega participated in the overthrow of the U.S.-backed dictatorship of Anastasio Somoza.

"The days when parties backed by the Yankees (United States) and the Somocistas would return to power are over — never again," he declared.

The declaration appeared to eliminate the possibility of a future electoral challenge as Ortega and Murillo continue consolidating control over the country’s political institutions.

Ortega and Murillo expanded their authority through sweeping constitutional changes that took effect in 2025. The reforms included extending the presidential term from five years to six and placing the legislative, judicial and electoral institutions under the authority of the presidency.

The pair now exercise control over nearly every branch of government, including the armed forces, police and judiciary.

Ortega, Nicaragua’s longest-serving leader, is scheduled to remain in office until early 2028, although his statement on Sunday effectively canceled Nicaragua’s next elections, which had been scheduled for November 2027.

Critics say Ortega had already effectively eliminated meaningful electoral competition during elections in 2011, 2016 and 2021.

Many prominent opposition leaders have been imprisoned, forced into exile or stripped of their Nicaraguan citizenship, while opposition parties and independent civic organizations have lost their legal status.

A United Nations group of experts has accused the Ortega-Murillo government of systematically violating human rights as part of a campaign to eliminate criticism and preserve its hold on power. The experts said some alleged violations may amount to crimes against humanity.

The government launched a violent crackdown on anti-government protests in 2018. More than 300 people were killed during the unrest, according to international human rights groups.

Ortega's effort to abolish elections prompted widespread condemnation from foreign governments, including the U.S.

"Daniel Ortega’s declaration that, under his family’s dictatorship, Nicaragua will never again hold elections lays bare their true authoritarian nature. Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo have abandoned even the pretense of popular consent," Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday.

"The Nicaraguan people have the right to choose their own leaders through democratic elections. The United States calls on the international community to join forces to demonstrate to the Murillo-Ortega dictatorship that it cannot expect to maintain business as usual with other nations when it is thwarting the basic tenets of our democratic hemisphere," he added.

The Trump administration has described the Ortega-Murillo government as a dictatorship and imposed sanctions on members of the government and their allies. The State Department has also enacted visa restrictions targeting more than 2,350 Nicaraguan officials and their family members.

Volker Türk, the United Nations' high commissioner for human rights, denounced Nicaragua's legislative ambitions on Wednesday, saying that "people of all political viewpoints must be allowed to vote and run for office."

"These latest developments further deepen the severe restrictions on fundamental freedoms, the dismantling of civic space, and the steady erosion of the rule of law," Türk said in a statement.

A Customs and Border Protection agriculture detector helped discover nearly 100 pounds of prohibited meat, plants and wildlife products inside luggage arriving from Thailand after alerting officers to the suitcase, authorities said.

CBP said K-9 Maisy alerted officers to the bag, which contained 50 pounds of meat, including raw meat, 33 pounds of mangoes, garlic, bamboo, banana plants and approximately 16 pounds of Bengal monitor lizard. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service took custody of the monitor lizard.

"If you discovered all this in a suitcase, wouldn't you be this happy?" CBP wrote alongside a photo of Maisy posing behind the unusual haul.

CBP agriculture specialists routinely inspect international luggage for prohibited meat, plants and wildlife products that can introduce pests, animal diseases or invasive species into the United States.

In a separate case, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife said officers working with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration inspected a vehicle at the San Ysidro Port of Entry and found approximately 436 fish, including rockfish, lingcod, sheephead and yellowtail.

CDFW said the three people in the vehicle did not have valid Mexican fishing licenses and officers determined they were bringing the fish into the United States to sell.

A 26-year-old Missouri man's dramatic attempt to outrun police by diving headfirst off a bridge was caught on video.

Video released by the Stone County Sheriff's Office shows Gavin Thor Lundgren, of Kimberling City, sprinting across a two-lane bridge before launching himself headfirst into the waters of Table Rock Lake after leading deputies on a chase during the early morning hours of July 18.

"This was definitely a first and luckily he survived the fall," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "He resisted arrest and deputies suffered minor injuries taking him into custody."

Lundgren was arrested and charged with three counts of third-degree assault on a special victim, resisting arrest for a felony, resisting arrest by fleeing and careless driving.

According to a probable cause statement, deputies attempted to stop Lundgren around 1:50 a.m. after spotting his 2004 Chevrolet Malibu traveling nearly 75 mph in a 45-mph zone, according to KOLR.

Instead of pulling over, authorities said Lundgren led deputies on a pursuit before abandoning his still-moving car and diving off the bridge into Table Rock Lake.

Three deputies were injured while taking Lundgren into custody, authorities said.

Investigators said Lundgren headbutted two deputies during the struggle.

Officials said deputies suffered injuries including facial bruising, cuts to their hands, elbows and forearms, and abrasions.

Lundgren is being held in the Stone County Jail without bond.

Clark's teammate, Kelsey Mitchell, added 23 points and the Fever set a franchise record for points in a game.

Aliyah Boston, the top pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft, scored 22 points for Indiana.

Boston Red Sox 15-game winning streak finally comes to an end, one short of setting franchise record

Just a few weeks ago, the Boston Red Sox were one of Major League Baseball's biggest disappointments.

Despite their hefty payroll and a roster filled with stars and exciting young prospects, injuries had ravaged much of the team's depth through the first half of the season. Entering July, the Red Sox were dead last in the American League East at 37-48. They had the third-worst record in the AL as a whole, were 14 games out of first place and seemed posed to become sellers at the trade deadline. As recently as June 21, they had just an 8.4% chance of reaching the postseason, per FanGraphs.

Then, history.

RED SOX COME BACK FROM THE DEAD, MOVE INTO POSTSEASON CONTENTION WITH REMARKABLE 14-GAME WIN STREAK

Even without key players like Garrett Crochet, Trevor Story and Roman Anthony, the Red Sox entered a day-night doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday having won 14 games in a row. Sure enough, they jumped out to a four-run lead they never relinquished, with the game fittingly ending on a great defensive play by shortstop Tsung-Che Chung.

That 15th consecutive win tied a franchise record set 80 years ago, and became just the eighth winning streak of 15 or more since 1961. And the first since the St. Louis Cardinals in 2021.

"You keep stacking one win over another, and then you get close, and once you get within three or four, they start to feel like playoff games because you want to get there," infielder Caleb Durbin this week, per MLB.com. "But yeah, then you look back at it, and think about where you're doing it and how long this franchise has existed. It's pretty incredible."

Wednesday night's game provided a golden opportunity to set a new franchise record with 16 in a row. Still at Fenway Park and facing a struggling Orioles team. But the Orioles turned the tables, scoring four runs of their own in the top of the first. Jonathan Rodriguez's double off the Green Monster helped force Eduardo Rivera from the game in the first inning.

The Red Sox couldn't get anything going offensively though, falling 5-1 and coming up just short of even more history.

Still, what an incredible achievement. It not only turned their season around but also upended the American League East and postseason races. They went from being buried and seemingly out of the playoff picture before July to not losing a game from July 1 through July 22.

Before the loss in the night game, Boston's postseason probability had soared to 67% thanks to taking over sole possession of the third wild card spot in the AL. Remarkably, after the win in the day game, they moved to within six games of first in the AL East. Though the Rays win and Boston's loss made it seven entering Thursday.

From sellers to... buyers?

Crochet is hoping to return by the playoffs, but even with Ranger Suárez returning soon, Boston would love to acquire more starting pitching. Roman Anthony has yet to start swinging after tearing a ligament in his finger, and Trevor Story is still a ways away, meaning Boston could use offense too.

All that raises the question, how have they done so much winning with all the injuries? A combination of timely hitting, quality pitching and, of course, luck. Boston has the best team ERA in baseball in July, and an .877 OPS with runners in scoring position over the same timeframe. That'll work.

15 games in a row is remarkable, especially with those injuries. And Red Sox fans can now dream of getting Anthony, Story and Suarez back for a playoff run. With Crochet looming if they get there. Not too shabby, considering where they were entering July.

Piker tells Mamdani to ‘shut the f--- up’ over cautious messaging, claims mayor needs to be more 'bold'

Far-left streamer Hasan Piker told New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani to "shut the f--- up" and urged progressives to present their policies more boldly during an interview released Wednesday on Zeteo's "We're Not Kidding" podcast in Washington, D.C.

"I just listened to his new New York Times conversation where The New York Times asked him, like, ‘If you had unlimited money, what would you do?’" Piker said. "He’s like, ‘Exactly the same policies I’m implementing.’ I’m like, ‘Shut the f--- up, dude.’"

Piker's criticism came during a broader discussion with Zeteo founder Mehdi Hasan about whether left-wing politicians are too concerned with optics and too willing to retreat when their positions draw criticism.

MAMDANI CALLS OUT DEMOCRATIC PARTY AS 'WELL-PAID CONSULTANTS AND BIG MONEY INTERESTS'

Piker said politicians, like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., risk appearing uncommitted to their positions when they sound hesitant or defensive.

"If you come across as, like, even a little worried or even a little defensive, then people respond to that with, ‘Oh, maybe she doesn’t believe this either,’" Piker said.

Fox News Digital reached out to Mamdani and Ocasio-Cortez for comment, but did not immediately hear back.

Piker contrasted Ocasio-Cortez with Mamdani, whom he praised for combining progressive policies with language capable of reaching liberal and less traditional audiences.

Hasan asked whether Piker wanted the interview to end with him telling one of his political allies to "shut the f--- up." Piker stressed that his frustration did not represent a break with Mamdani.

Piker later accepted Hasan’s revised description of the approach he wanted from progressive politicians.

Liberty's Sabrina Ionescu addresses absence from WNBA 3-point contest: 'Never officially got invited'

The lineup for this year’s WNBA All-Star 3-point contest has been a talking point in the sports world since it was announced.

New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu was among the most notable players absent from the annual competition.

Ionescu addressed the speculation ahead of Wednesday’s Liberty-Sky matchup, pushing back against reports that she chose not to participate in this weekend’s WNBA 3-point contest in Chicago.

"I can't decline an offer I never got officially invited to. So, was pretty surprised to see that. Never got invited," the defending 3-point contest champion told reporters pregame.

Caitlin Clark and Kayla McBride were also among the high-profile stars who reportedly declined invitations to the competition.

"Whether it's against Steph Curry or in the W, I always go out and try and beat my record, every single time I've gone out," said Ionescu, who has won the 3-point contest twice, highlighted by her record-setting 37-point performance in 2023.

"I just kind of wanted to set the record straight," she continued. "Like that was just false, but I'm really excited for the participants in it, and obviously there's going to be a new winner. So, I'm excited to see who wins."

Ionescu later referenced her previous 3-point showdown with Stephen Curry when asked a follow-up about the issue.

"Maybe I'll do it with Steph again at NBA All-Star and get a really nice official invite," she said.

The confirmed list of 3-point contest participants includes Dallas' Azzi Fudd, Atlanta's Rhyne Howard, Golden State's Janelle Salaün, Portland's Bridget Carleton, Toronto's Marina Mabrey and Seattle's Natisha Hiedeman. Howard and Mabrey are the only players in that group with prior 3-point contest experience at All-Star weekend.

Earlier this week, Ionescu refuted a report that she had opted out of this year’s festivities, commenting "lies" under a since-deleted Bleacher Report Instagram post. McBride also weighed in via social media, saying her agent had texted her about the event in the 48 hours before her Instagram story post, but no formal invitation ever came.

"Posting things like I'm afraid of shooting smoke is weird and if you didn't hear it from me prob shouldn't believe it," McBride wrote. "We should focus on the great shooters in it already!!! Because there's some killas in there."
