Michigan Senate hopeful calls AIPAC donations 'legalized bribery,' remains silent on other donations

Abdul El-Sayed, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Michigan, called dinations from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) a form of "bribery."

"Next week, AIPAC is set to spend at least $3,847,990 against me. Why? Because [Haley Stevens] is more committed to the future of a foreign country than keeping your tax dollars here to provide schools and healthcare for you and your kids," El-Sayed said in a post to X.

"Legalized bribery at its worst."

The post, which comes a little under a month before a primary against Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., a pro-Israel and establishment candidate, raises questions about foreign interests represented in American elections and whether El-Sayed’s criticisms could be applied to other groups.

"Does that apply to PAL PAC and Arab American PAC?" Chuck Ross, an investigative reporter, wrote in a post to X, referring to two pro-palestine groups.

El-Sayed’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital along those lines.

Israel and its influence in American politics have been key themes for the Michigan Senate primary. Stevens, a member of the House of Representatives, endorsed by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has heavily criticized El-Sayed for questioning the U.S.-Israel alliance amid the conflict with Hamas.

"I can say that Israel has a right to peacefully exist alongside the people of Palestine and Gaza," Stevens said at a debate on Tuesday evening.

El-Sayed, for his part, has maintained that the Israel lobby has amassed too much power in U.S. elections, preventing candidates from questioning the partnership or under what circumstances the U.S. should withhold its assistance.

"For too long our foreign policy has been handed to us by the likes of the state of Israel and AIPAC, who has made sure that both Democrats and Republicans are doing their bidding," El-Sayed said on Tuesday.

Notably, El-Sayed has a modest foreign asset.

In response to criticisms that he had yet to release his tax returns, El-Sayed acknowledged that his family had been holding the evaluations abroad, delaying the process.

"Taxes get complicated," El-Sayed replied when asked about the topic on a recent programming appearance. "My wife and her family own property abroad and getting all those tax forms is a thing."

As a part of his candidate report disclosures filed on June 2025, El-Sayed has reported a number of holdings. Among them: a salary from Wayne County worth $278,900 and an assortment of other assets totaling a net worth somewhere between $580,000 and $1.7 million.

As a part of that report, his wife reported holding up to $15,000 in real estate in India.

Shohei Ohtani ruled out of MLB All-Star Game as Dodgers plan to manage nagging injury

The face of baseball will not be at Tuesday's All-Star Game.

Shohei Ohtani was scratched from his start on Friday as the Los Angeles Dodgers said he will also miss the Midsummer Classic with what the team called left knee irritation.

Ohtani, for obvious reasons, has become an All-Star Game fixture. He has earned the honor in each of the past five seasons and made his first start in 2021.

The two-way phenom is on his way to winning his fifth MVP award in his last six seasons as he is hitting .290 with a .939 OPS and pitching to a minuscule 1.79 ERA, the second-lowest in the sport among pitchers with 80-plus innings. His OPS is also the seventh-best mark in the league.

The Dodgers said Ohtani will be the team's designated hitter up until the break, but he will "have some interventions on his knee to put him in the best position for the second half of the season."

Ohtani dealt with knee issues earlier in the season.

It is certainly a big hit for the game as the other face of the sport, Aaron Judge, will miss the game due to a fractured rib that has kept him out since late May.

Ohtani hit 99 home runs combined in 2024 and 2025, leading the National League with a 1.025 OPS in that span. Ohtani did not pitch in 2024 after elbow surgery but returned to the bump last year and owned a 2.87 ERA and 11.9 K/9, a figure he also put up in 2022 that led the American League.

The "Japanese Babe Ruth" is the only player in MLB history to have 300-plus plate appearances and 40-plus innings in six separate seasons (Ruth only did it twice and never stole 50 bases), and he has more than excelled at both.

Ohtani is not hitting like he has in the past, but certainly the best pitching performance of his career will make up for it. He "only" has 20 homers and 56 RBI this season.

ICE arrests illegal immigrants convicted of attempted murder, rape and child sex crimes in targeted crackdown

In a series of sweeping nationwide operations, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on Thursday arrested some of the "worst of the worst" criminal illegal aliens convicted of heinous crimes.

Among those captured was Jose Solorzano-Felix, of Mexico, who was apprehended in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Solorzano-Felix was previously convicted for the attempted murder of a federal law enforcement officer, use of a firearm during and in the commission of a felony, and being an illegal immigrant in possession of a handgun.

ICE NABS ILLEGAL ALIENS CONVICTED OF CHILD SEX CRIMES AND METH TRAFFICKING IN NATIONWIDE ENFORCEMENT SWEEP

In Santa Clara, California, ICE agents took Paulino Lugos-Perez, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, into custody following his conviction for lewd or lascivious acts with a child.

Meanwhile, in Forsyth County, North Carolina, authorities arrested Adrian Valdez-Lopez, a Mexican national convicted of second-degree forcible rape.

The crackdown also targeted violent gang affiliates, resulting in the Pasadena, California, arrest of Edgar Josue Centeno, a Honduran national and member of the Latin Kings gang convicted of assault with a deadly weapon.

In Mineola, New York, agents arrested Rodolfo Umana, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador who had been convicted of burglary.

"Yesterday, the brave men and women of ICE risked their lives to arrest illegal criminal aliens convicted for attempted murder of a federal law enforcement officer, lewd or lascivious acts with a child, rape, assault with a deadly weapon, and burglary," Department of Homeland Security (DHS) acting assistant Secretary Lauren Bis wrote in a statement.

The arrests represent a targeted effort to remove dangerous illegal immigrants from the country, with Bis emphasizing that under President Donald Trump and DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin, "ICE will continue to arrest and remove these public safety threats from our communities."

DHS said nearly 70% of ICE arrests are those of illegal immigrants who have already been charged or convicted of a crime in the U.S.

"Thanks to our ICE law enforcement, our communities are safer," Bis wrote.

"Shameless" star Emmy Rossum admitted she ignored glaring red flags when an alleged ultimatum from her then-boyfriend led to a rushed, secret wedding.

Rossum admitted she accepted a marriage ultimatum at 21, kept the wedding a secret and was already thinking about divorce before saying "I do" during an appearance on "Call Her Daddy." She had been dating Interscope music executive Justin Siegel for a few months after working together recording her first album, "Inside Out."

Rossum said the whirlwind decision came during one of the most emotionally vulnerable periods of her life. Facing six months away in Mexico to film "Dragon Ball Evolution," she recalled how the alleged ultimatum from Siegel in 2008 quickly escalated into a marriage she now recognizes was driven by fear rather than love.

Looking back, Rossum admitted she ignored what she now sees as glaring warning signs, convincing herself at 21 that a divorce would be simple if the marriage didn't work out.

"Well, at that moment I thought to myself, well I'm just coming off these two really rough heartbreaks. Like abandonment is my core wound. I don't want, I don't want that. That hurts me. And I literally thought ... My 21-year-old brain thought, you know, divorce doesn't seem that complicated. Like it, it's probably pretty straightforward."

"Not you planning the divorce before," host Alexandra Cooper joked.

"A hundred percent," Rossum admitted.

Within days, the couple quietly tied the knot in an impromptu ceremony Rossum described as anything but romantic. Rather than celebrating the milestone, she said she kept the marriage hidden because she already sensed something wasn't right.

"And so ... he literally printed out like a marriage contract online and got some guy on the internet to like come over to my house," she claimed. "I found like a white turtleneck that was in my closet and like threw it on 'cause like I was like this is appropriate. Right?"

"Literally not hearing the smoke detector in my head being like, don't do this. You don't have to do this. No guy should be like, 'let's marry.' You know what I mean? It was my intention not to tell anyone because I knew in my gut it wasn't right."

Those instincts, Rossum said, proved to be correct. The actress said the relationship continued to unravel while she spent six months filming in Mexico and her husband didn't even visit.

"It's also not that long of a flight. I don't know what … like everyone was very dramatic. I don't know. Like it's literally just like going – people go to Mexico for the weekend. Like what are we talking about?"

By the time production wrapped and she returned home, Rossum said it was obvious the marriage had no future.

"I was away for six months. When I got back, it became abundantly clear we weren't a match in any way."

Despite keeping the marriage a secret from nearly everyone, Rossum eventually had to tell her mother — not to share happy news, but because she needed help ending the relationship.

"I told my mom, 'Hey, I'm breaking up with Justin and I need a lawyer.' And she was like, 'You did not.' And I was like, ‘I did,’" she recalled.

"And my mom has always been somebody that mobilizes," she said. "My mom is like, if anyone is going through a breakup, my mom is not employed right now. So if you need someone to show up, she'll send you for a manicure and be like, 'I have the U-Haul. Like go take care of yourself.'"

The divorce was eventually finalized in 2010.

Years later, Rossum remarried after meeting director, screenwriter and producer Sam Esmail on the set of "Comet." The two began dating in 2013 and later married in 2017.

Rossum and Esmail share two children – a daughter born in 2021 and a son born in 2023.

She told Cooper that "my relationship with my husband and watching him be the world's greatest girl dad" is "the ultimate healing" from her troubled relationship with her own father.

Brooke Hanlon's husband placed a frantic 911 call after finding his wife unconscious and not breathing on the floor of their Chester, New Jersey, home in early June.

Conor Hanlon, the husband of 35-year-old Brooke Hanlon, called 911 after finding her unconscious and bloodied on the floor of their home on June 6. He asked the operator for guidance on performing CPR. Investigators found Brooke Hanlon dead with "multiple sharp force injuries," according to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.

"I just found my wife (inaudible) CPR, I need CPR instructions," Hanlon can be heard saying on the 911 call.

Fox News Digital spotted Conor Hanlon in Brighton, Massachusetts, as the couple's baby is staying with family.

One of the Hanlons' neighbors told Fox News Digital, "There was a lot of activity out there on the 6th. I'd talked to Conor a few times before. We mostly texted. We've lived here about a year, and he'd text me whenever bears were around."

Court records show Conor Hanlon has no prior arrests or criminal history. He hasn't been accused of any crime nor wrongdoing.

How Maine's Democratic meltdown could shape the Senate midterms

Political watchers expected this fall’s Maine Senate contest to emerge as the main event in the midterms as Democrats try to unseat five-term Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine).

Again.

It is said that as Maine goes, so goes the nation. And this year, Maine could dictate how the Senate goes. But Democrats are facing trouble in the Pine Tree State.

Progressives thought they discovered a pearl of a candidate in waterman Graham Platner and his oyster enterprise.

But the party has now shucked Platner and is diving to find a replacement by July 27th.

For Democrats, defeating Collins is like the pursuit of the Great White Whale in Moby Dick. Potentially in their grasp. Yet elusive. Republicans aren’t concerned about the veteran GOPer.

"There's a reason that she's been a United States Senator for Maine since God was a baby," said Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) on Fox. "People like her."

The Democratic Party was fractured before as its "mainstream middle" scraps with progressives.

However, the Platner debacle may have underscored what made the schism worse.

MILLIONS IN DEM AD MONEY VANISHED FROM PLATNER RACE DAYS BEFORE RAPE ALLEGATION DOOMED SENATE BID

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) will soon release their long-term platform. The DSA wants to eliminate the Senate. Expand the House. Pack the Supreme Court? How about having the House pick the Court instead?

The DSA pushes a 32-hour workweek without changes to pay or benefits.

And then there are older suggestions like Medicare for all and guaranteed minimum wages.

Some Democrats are asking how Platner got this far – unvetted. That’s to say nothing of some Democrats looking past his awful text messages and Nazi-themed tattoo.

All in the name of trying to defeat Collins.

"I told you so" is essentially the mantra of Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) He’s been outspoken against Platner since the start and railed against colleagues who blindly flocked to Platner.

"I’d say that the trash took itself out," said Fetterman on Fox. "Finally, people in Maine have a chance to really vote on someone that's not a total piece of trash."

But Fetterman held particular contempt for a Senate colleague: the godfather of modern socialism.

"(Sen.) Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) needs to apologize to the voters of Maine and to everyone that donated to that train wreck of a campaign. More than anyone, he pushed Platner into the election. And now he keeps pushing these communists and these kind of awful anti-American people," said Fetterman.

That’s what worries some Democrats after primary victories in New York by Democratic House nominees Claire Valdez, Darializa Avila Chevalier and Brad Lander.

Then throw in Melat Kiros. She felled 30-year veteran Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) in the primary last week.

Kiros then triggered a Colorado avalanche of controversy after an appearance with Walter Rhein on YouTube.

"One of the things that brought me into starting my PhD program was finally coming to the realization that we were never really going to be able to tackle white supremacy in the way that we need to without reparations," said Kiros.

This is why Democrats are concerned about the party steering left.

Democrats might not need to worry about allegations of sexual assault, texts and tattoos like they did with Platner.

But they could grapple with policies pushed by other Democratic Socialists.

SOCIALISTS LAUNCH RADICAL PLATFORM TO ABOLISH THE US SENATE IN BID TO FUNDAMENTALLY TRANSFORM AMERICA

Abdul El-Sayed is seeking the Democratic nomination for Senate in Michigan against Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.). Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) is retiring.

Who knows what awaits Democrats in Maine, post-Platner.

But Democrats must retain Michigan if they have a fighting chance to seize control of the Senate.

"You can't retrain ICE. You have to abolish ICE," said El-Sayed at a recent debate with Stevens.

He equated radicalism in Iran to MAGA. And, he declared that people in Dearborn, MI were "sad" about the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.

Stevens, trying to run in the "middle" lane of the party, is focused on kitchen table issues.

"I will run through anyone and anything to lower costs," said Stevens during the debate.

Democrats are torn.

"I don't agree with everything either Haley or Abdul have said. They're both colleagues. They're both friends, and I'm neutral in this race. But we do have a big tent," said Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) on Fox.

But when pressed about progressives, Dingell replied, "I don't think that the DSA is painting us into the corners."

Political observers note that candidates like El-Sayed energize the party. But what does that mean in the general election?

"I think it is a great test case because I think El-Sayed is going to win that nomination. And I think with it, he brings a tremendous amount of enthusiasm, again from Democrats. The question is will he be able to appeal to independents? And that remains to be seen," said University of Akron political scientist David Cohen.

So here’s the Senate map for Democrats.

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) is retiring. Democrats hope to flip the Tar Heel State with former North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D) against former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley.

In the Buckeye State, former Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) is mounting a comeback after losing to Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) less than two years ago.

He’s up against appointed Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio), who succeeded Vice President JD Vance.

"There's a lot of money flowing into this state. Both Republicans and Democrats realize that Ohio is one of the keys to either Republicans holding the Senate or Democrats flipping it," said Cohen.

Iowa used to be a swing state. Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) is retiring after two terms. But the Hawkeye State is shaping up as a battleground as Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa) faces Democrat Josh Turek.

The Democrats' last hope is to capture the Last Frontier: Alaska. Former Rep. Mary Peltola (D-Alaska.) is up against Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska.)

Democrats must also cling to Georgia as Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) faces Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.)

And just like Michigan and Georgia are for the Democrats, it’s "hold ‘em" in Texas after Republican Ken Paxton defeated Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) in the primary.

Paxton takes on Democrat James Talarcio.

Winning the Lone Star State may be a long shot for Democrats.

It seems that way each cycle. However, Democrats have made it relatively close for years now.

But Cohen says Democrats might win – despite losing.

"Even if Democrats come up short in Texas, Texas will have served a huge purpose in driving a lot of those resources to that state when they could have maybe spent more money in places like Ohio or Michigan or North Carolina or Georgia," said Cohen.

But Democrats must now devote time to figuring out what the progressive pull means for them. Especially after the Maine implosion. Republicans believe the Democrats are their own worst enemy.

"Our secret plan all along has been let them speak. Let Graham Platner speak. Let Dr. Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan speak," said John Kennedy. "A reckoning is coming for the Democratic Party."

It may have already come for Democrats in Maine.

And if this is the "secret plan" by Republicans, it’s not so secret. Democrats already understand their problem all too well.

For the first time since the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship, Scheffler missed the cut at the Scottish Open, ending a streak of 78 made cuts. It was the longest streak on the PGA Tour since Tiger Woods set the record of 142 consecutive cuts from February 1998 to May 2005.

Scheffler finished two shots outside the cut line after shooting a 2-over 72 on Friday to finish even par for the tournament. The 30-year-old was blunt in his assessment of his play.

"Got off to a poor start and after that, I didn't really it close enough to give myself a bunch of looks," Scheffler said. "That's how you shoot over par."

Children’s YouTube star "Ms. Rachel" has waded into a political controversy after pushing back against President Donald Trump for sharing a viral video showing several children wearing hijabs at a Minnesota kindergarten graduation.

"Ms. Rachel," whose real name is Rachel Griffin Accurso, took to Instagram to express support for the kindergarteners wearing hijabs.

"I saw some of you wore a hijab to your graduation," she wrote on Tuesday. "I am glad you wore something meaningful and special to you and your family. I think hijabs are beautiful. Different kids wear different things that are a part of their cultures and religions, such as hijabs, kippahs, or necklaces with a cross. Some kids don’t wear anything that is from their religion or are not religious."

The post also appeared to take an indirect jab at the president, without mentioning him by name, writing, "No one’s hurtful words can take away our worth and our value! Just because someone says something does not mean it’s true!"

Her reaction came after Trump reshared a graduation video on Truth Social. The clip was previously shared by the X account End Wokeness, which claimed it showed a school in St. Paul, Minnesota, and captioned it, "Every girl is in a hijab … in kindergarten."

Trump did not add a caption of his own when he reposted the clip, which shows several young children in head coverings wearing blue graduation regalia reading "kindergarten graduation." Over a dozen of the children featured are wearing hijabs or head coverings, which are traditionally worn by Muslim women.

Accurso’s post also noted that last year she attended multiple celebrations of different faiths, including a Hanukkah celebration, an Eid brunch and her own family celebrations of Easter and Christmas.

This will help us keep our communities and world safe," and continued with, "I hope you know that there is more kindness than fear, that love is stronger than hate, and that so many people stood with you."

This is not Accurso’s first step into the political arena. Earlier this year, she visited an immigration detention facility in Newark, N.J., where she met with separated families, describing the children there as "traumatized." She has also previously faced backlash for her advocacy surrounding children in Gaza.

"Antisemitism and hate of any kind have no place in my life or my work," Accurso continued. "Everything I do is rooted in kindness, inclusion, and care for all humanity. Those values guide me every day, and I remain firmly committed to them."

Wealthy Americans choose one grocery store chain over rivals, survey finds

Costco was the grocery retailer where the largest share of higher-income Americans reported doing most of their grocery shopping, according to a recent YouGov survey.

Eleven percent of respondents earning at least $150,000 a year said Costco was their primary grocery store. Fourteen percent selected "other," while Kroger followed at 10% and Walmart Supercenter at 8%.

The warehouse retailer, known for its bulk goods and discounted prices, topped the rankings despite requiring shoppers to pay an annual membership fee.

YouGov defines higher-income households as those earning at least $150,000 annually, or more than 200% of the U.S. median household income. Higher-income Americans make up 10% of the population, according to YouGov.

Just over half (51%) of higher-income households reported spending more than $150 each week on groceries, compared to 28% of middle- and lower-income households.

Walmart Supercenter was the most popular grocery store among middle- and lower-income Americans, with 20% of respondents naming it as their go-to supermarket. Five percent of those respondents reported Costco as their preferred grocery store.

Walmart earned second place, with 12% of middle- and lower-income shoppers going there for food. Kroger and "other" tied for third place, with 10% of respondents selecting each.

The findings were not surprising, Santa Monica, California-based food industry analyst Phil Lempert told Fox News Digital.

"Wealthier households typically are larger households," he said. "So it fits perfectly with the model of Costco having larger sizes. Also, wealthier people shop more often, and what they want is value. One of the reasons they have more money is they're frugal."

Costco's bulk sizes and lower prices naturally appeal to larger households looking to stretch their grocery dollars, Lempert said.

"Even though the hype says that these wealthier shoppers are going to the Erewhons and the Whole Foods of the world, not necessarily," Lempert said.

A Costco membership ranges from $65 to $130 a year, according to its website. Lempert said he doesn't think this is prohibitive enough to deter middle- and lower-income Americans and that it's well worth the savings it brings.

Kroger's strong showing among wealthier shoppers surprised him, though he noted that consumers often shop where they live, Lempert said. Costco stores are concentrated in larger metropolitan and suburban markets.

With higher gas prices, shoppers are less likely to drive longer distances in hopes of saving money on groceries, Lempert said.

"People are nervous about what the future looks like," he said. "And when we get nervous, we get more frugal. We have to be smart consumers these days more than ever before."

To save money on groceries, Lempert offered several tips. "No. 1, always shop with a list," he said.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) sets standards for certain products, such as cheddar cheese. The cheddar cheese sold in a specialty cheese case often meets the same USDA standards as cheese in the dairy aisle but can cost 20% to 30% more, Lempert said.

Seafood displayed at the counter is often previously frozen and thawed, while comparable frozen products may cost less, Lempert said.

The best thing to do is order groceries online and pick them up yourself, Lempert said.

An Indiana lawmaker wants answers from the WNBA about why Caitlin Clark is seemingly treated much differently than her peers.

On the court, Clark has fallen victim to numerous hard fouls and boastful trash talk while being the clear face of the league.

That prompted members of Congress to write a letter to WNBA Commissioner Kathy Engelbert demanding accountability and answers regarding Clark's treatment.

The letter said "the face of your league" is subject to "repeated acts of unnecessary physical hostility and violence."

"For me, the fact the way the WNBA handled it with a one-game suspension, it was such a blatant foul... and the fact that, last night they strategically sacked, Caitlin Clark, at the game against the [Phoenix] Mercury again, just to me is like, we're leaving an amazing talent on the bench because we're afraid of what could happen on the court," Stutzman told Outkick's Dan Dakich on "Don't @ Me."

"I think all she has to do is respond to the letter, and make it an open letter and say, 'You know what? We're hearing you guys loud and clear. We appreciate your attention to, you know, the league and what's happening on the court. But also, where it's still very competitive on the court,'" he continued.

The letter said Engelbert has a responsibility to ensure every player competes "in a safe and professional environment."

"As Commissioner, you have an obligation to ensure that every player competes in a safe and professional environment, both on and off the court, free from violence, discrimination, or retaliation," the lawmakers wrote. "If discrimination or retaliation is occurring and creating a hostile work environment, we support any appropriate investigation by the Department of Justice, the Department of Labor, or the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. If true, such conduct could constitute violations of federal civil rights laws."

The letter concluded by urging the league to take stronger action.

"The league has an extraordinary opportunity to inspire the next generation of female athletes to pursue athletics, but that opportunity is undermined when its brightest stars are not adequately protected," the letter reads. "Your fans deserve better, and so do the young girls who look to the WNBA as a model for excellence, sportsmanship, and opportunity."

Yale student charged after alleged sex assault on packed Manhattan subway train, attorney pushes back

An 18-year-old Yale student has been charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a woman aboard a Manhattan subway train last month, though his attorney says the accusation is false.

The New York City Police Department told Fox News Digital that Ari Shtein, of Washington, D.C., was arrested July 8.

Court records reviewed by Fox News Digital show he faces charges including first-degree sexual abuse, third-degree aggravated sexual abuse, forcible touching on a bus or train, third-degree sexual abuse and four counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

The charges stem from an incident reported June 28 at about 3 p.m. aboard a northbound R train approaching the West 28th Street and Broadway subway station in Manhattan, NYPD said.

Police said a 30-year-old woman reported she was sexually abused while riding the train. She exited at the station and was transported by EMS to a local hospital for treatment, while the suspect remained aboard the train.

Court records show Shtein pleaded not guilty at his arraignment before Judge Ilona B. Coleman and was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to return to New York Criminal Court on Aug. 26.

Shtein's attorney, Priya Chaudhry, denied the allegations in a statement to Fox News Digital.

"Every strap-hanger has encountered unhinged people on the subway. Unfortunately, when Ari visited our City, it was his turn," Chaudhry said.

"Ari did not assault anyone. He was visiting bookstores with a friend when his life was turned upside down by a woman who falsely accused him of a vile crime," the statement continued. "His reputation has been destroyed. Before a single piece of evidence has been made public, he has been labeled a creep and convicted in the court of public opinion."

Chaudhry also challenged the allegations on factual grounds.

"The allegation is nonsense. On the woman's own version of events, she would have had to have been wearing a swimsuit for the alleged conduct to have been physically possible," she said. "The subway car was packed. If you were on that train, and witnessed this woman's behavior, please contact my firm."

Shtein is listed as a staff columnist for the Yale Daily News opinion desk, where his most recent column was published in May.

Following Shtein's arrest on charges of sexual abuse, the Yale Daily News announced it had indefinitely suspended him from the publication.

"We have seen the disturbing reports regarding his arrest," Yale Daily News Editor in Chief Asher Boiskin said in a statement posted on the newspaper's website. "We have made the decision to indefinitely suspend Mr. Shtein from the paper pending the results of the legal process."

In an October 2025 post on his Substack, "Mistakes Were Made," Shtein criticized mandatory campus sexual misconduct training, arguing such programs were largely ineffective and citing research he said showed they had little effect on preventing sexual violence.

Platner officially terminates Senate bid after bombshell rape allegation ends campaign

Graham Platner the embattled Democratic Senate nominee in Maine, on Friday publicly released the letter formally withdrawing from the U.S. Senate race, thanking supporters before signing off with, "F**k ICE. Free Palestine. Up the Hearts."

Platner posted the July 10 letter on X after submitting it to the Maine Department of the Secretary of State's Division of Elections.

"I write to formally withdraw my candidacy for United States Senate," Platner wrote.

THE DOZEN RACES THAT WILL DETERMINE THE SENATE'S BALANCE OF POWER

The letter thanked the 156,084 Mainers who voted for him in last month's Democratic primary and argued they had backed "a new kind of politics" focused on issues including Medicare for All, stronger unions and limiting the influence of billionaires in politics.

"My name may have been on the ballot, but that ballot line belongs to the people of Maine," Platner wrote. "As such, please consider this notice as my official withdrawal from consideration for this office."

Platner concluded the letter by writing, "F**k ICE. Free Palestine. Up the Hearts."

The letter comes two days after Platner announced he was suspending his campaign amid mounting controversies and allegations of sexual misconduct that he has repeatedly denied, and a chorus of calls from top Democrats in Maine, the nation's capital, and across the country to drop out of the race immediately.

It also came three days before a crucial 5 p.m. Monday deadline. Missing it would have prevented Maine Democrats from replacing Platner with a new nominee on the general election ballot.

A populist Democrat who was backed last September by progressive champion Sen. Bernie Sanders, Platner was challenging longtime Republican Sen. Susan Collins in a high-profile, combustible and expensive race in Maine, which is one of a handful that will determine if the GOP holds onto its slim Senate majority in November's midterm elections.

"For the movement to continue, it can’t be me. For that reason, we are suspending campaign operations," Platner said on Wednesday in a video posted to social media.

The end of his campaign came a month after Platner won a landslide victory in Maine's June 9 Democratic Senate primary, but just days after an explosive report contained an allegation of rape from a woman he previously dated.

Maine resident Jenny Racicot told CNN "by dictionary definition" Platner "raped" her. She also said over the course of three interviews with Politico that Platner forced her to have sex five years ago against her will, a claim that he denied.

Platner this week was hit with a second explosive allegation of sexual misconduct. In a report published by The Washington Post, Platner was accused of removing condoms during sex with his ex-girlfriend Lyndsey Fifield after she explicitly directed him to wear them.

Fifield had previously accused Platner in a New York Times report of physical misconduct during their relationship, saying that he sometimes grabbed her hard enough to leave marks on her body and that one time he twisted her arm around her back, pushed her into a bedroom and held the door shut until she "calmed down."

The Platner campaign responded that Fifield's latest allegations were "categorically false and politically motivated," pointing to her previous work for the conservative Heritage Foundation.

Addressing the multiple allegations in his video announcement, a visibly angry Platner charged, "This is all false. The things that have been claimed did not happen. It is not real."

The Marine Corps combat veteran and oyster farmer became the all-but-certain party nominee in the spring after two-term Gov. Janet Mills, who was backed by Democratic Senate Leader Chuck Schumer and the party establishment, suspended her bid after significantly trailing Platner in fundraising and polling.

But as he moved towards capturing the nomination, Platner was forced to play defense amid multiple controversies that muddied the final days of his primary campaign and overshadowed his victory.

Past inflammatory online comments made on a now-deleted Reddit account came back to haunt him at the same time he was reeling from revelations of a now covered-up tattoo on his chest that resembled a Nazi symbol. Then reports that Platner exchanged sexually explicit messages with several women while married came right before allegations from ex-girlfriends of a history of rape fantasies, heavy drinking and violent episodes.

Platner repeatedly called the allegations of violence untrue.

The mounting controversy drew plenty of attention, gave Republicans more ammunition to use against him and triggered some Democrats in the nation's capital to question whether Platner was damaged goods.

But the allegations didn't stop him from riding a populist wave to capture the nomination in a landslide.

SCANDAL-PLAGUED PLATNER CAPTURES DEMOCRATIC SENATE NOMINATION DESPITE MOUNTING CONTROVERSIES

Platner, who struggled with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from his three tours in the war in Iraq with the Marines and one tour with the Army National Guard in Afghanistan, apologized for his controversial Reddit posts after some of them made headlines after he launched his Senate campaign.

In his primary night victory speech last month, Platner emphasized that he was a changed man.

"If you believe, as I do, that we can change our politics and change our country, then you must also believe that people can change," Platner told the crowd. "And the reason I believe that is because I have lived it."

After the latest allegations went viral last week, a growing chorus of Democrats called on Platner to quit the race, from establishment figures like Schumer to progressives among his biggest backers, including Sanders, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Mass., and Rep. Ro Khanna, Calif., who campaigned with Platner in Maine in June.

The Maine Democratic Party announced earlier this week that officials were working "around the clock" to determine a replacement process, but claimed Platner's team was trying "to put their thumb on the scale of what this process looks like."

Platner's team, responding, said they had reached out to the party but denied they were trying to put any "finger on the scale."

A day later, the state party announced it would hold a nominating convention, which Fox News Digital confirmed would likely consist of 600 voting delegates, to choose a new Senate nominee.

That didn't appear to sit well with Platner, who in his video said, "What comes next needs to come from the people. Needs to come from the people of Maine. Needs to come from the voters who on June 9….said no to this kind of politics. Voted for a politics that would actually represent them. Vote against the political system. Against the donor class. Against the entrenched forces."

Platner, who ran an outsider campaign, said that if he had continued his bid, he’d lose the ability to raise money and access crucial voter data, essential elements to any campaign.

"Those in power who have the ability to do so are using these allegations as an excuse to take away all the things that we need to run a campaign," he charged.

Since Wednesday's announcement, a slew of Democrats have jumped into the race to succeed Platner as the party's Senate nominee.

The list includes three gubernatorial contenders who came up short in last month's primary: progressive Troy Jackson, a former state Senate president who was also backed by Sanders; Nirav Shah, the former director of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention; and Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani declined to comment on whether the collapse of former Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner's campaign reflects a broader problem within the progressive movement, instead saying in an interview published Thursday that it was time to "bring this chapter to a close."

During an interview with NY1's Errol Lewis, the host noted that Platner's downfall had sparked a national conversation about whether progressives had moved too quickly to embrace a candidate who was "simply unfit" for office.

"There's a national discussion that this has triggered about whether or not the push by some progressives to sort of push the traditional mainstream Democrats aside ... they came up with a candidate who was simply unfit or not prepared for the responsibility of making it all the way through the campaign," Lewis said before asking whether that was an "occupational danger for progressives."

Rather than answer the broader question about the progressive movement, Mamdani pivoted back to Platner's campaign.

"I think my focus right now is how do we ensure that we bring this chapter to a close and then start to write a new chapter," Mamdani said. "And I think I trust the voters of Maine to point us in the right direction."

This is not the first time that Mamdani was asked to weigh in on the race in Maine. The New York City mayor said during a news conference on Tuesday, prior to the suspension of Platner's campaign, that he believed it was "time for him to drop out of the race."

KINGMAKER MAMDANI CALLS ON PLATNER TO 'DROP OUT OF THE RACE' AFTER RAPE ALLEGATION

During the interview, Mamdani also suggested he has no plans to wade into elections beyond New York, saying, "The endorsements I've made have all been right here in New York City." The mayor previously endorsed far-left congressional candidates Claire Valdez, Brad Lander and Darializa Avila Chevalier, all of whom won their respective races last month.

While Mamdani never endorsed Platner, their campaigns shared a connection in Morris Katz, one of the New York City mayor's top advisors. Before joining the Mamdani administration, Katz helped launch Platner's campaign.

Platner's campaign was plagued by scandals from the start. The first involved a tattoo of a Nazi symbol known as a "Totenkopf" that Platner had on his chest. He denied knowing what the symbol meant and had it covered up. However, Lyndsey Fifield told The New York Times that Platner had referred to it as "my Totenkopf," and that he taught her the name of the symbol.

The article in the Times, which was published last month, also contained scathing allegations about Platner's conduct with past partners. While the paper spoke with women who had a favorable view of the Maine Democrat, the article also included allegations from Fifield, Jenny Racicot and another woman.

Racicot's allegations in a subsequent article published by Politico on Monday were serious enough to make even Platner's biggest supporters distance themselves. She claimed that in 2021, Platner entered her home while drunk and raped her. Platner denied the allegations, but that did not stop the fallout.

Following the article, several Democrats who had defended Platner through previous scandals abandoned ship, including Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., and Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz.

Mexico vows US will pay after ICE fatally shoots illegal migrant who allegedly attempted to ram agent with car

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum vowed to pursue "significant legal measures" against the United States after a Mexican national was fatally shot during an ICE operation in Texas.

Mexican officials counted 17 cases of Mexican nationals who have died in U.S. immigration custody, while Sheinbaum focused on Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, an illegal migrant who has lived in the United States for decades.

DHS officials claimed Araujo was the subject of an ICE arrest operation when an agent shot him in self-defense because he allegedly ignored orders and allegedly attempted to ram the agent.

ICE SAYS OFFICER SHOT AND KILLED ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT WHO TRIED TO RAM HIM WITH CAR IN HOUSTON

During Sheinbaum’s daily "Mañanera del Pueblo" press availability in Mexico City, she laid out her planned escalation of objections against U.S. immigration enforcement’s behavior.

"Our goal is to go beyond diplomatic notes and the representations we made to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. We cannot tolerate the mistreatment of our fellow citizens, our brothers and sisters, in the United States. So, we are proposing further measures," Sheinbaum said in Spanish.

Sheinbaum said the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs will present the measures to Washington, and commented on Araujo’s death.

"This occurred in the context of detention, even though their only offense was lacking documentation — and this despite having been hired by a U.S. company."

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION PLANS NEW ICE HOLDING FACILITY NEAR LOUISIANA DEPORTATION FLIGHT HUB

On Thursday, Mexican Foreign Minister Roberto Velasco said he is requesting criminal charges be brought in connection with the 17 Mexican nationals who died in U.S. custody, according to the AP, which reported the requests will be sent to the Justice Department and various state attorneys general.

Multiple reports suggested Sheinbaum's demands would have no legal effect in U.S. courts.

Mexico City has claimed 14 of the 17 died in custody while three have been killed during active DHS operations, according to the outlet.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Justice Department and DHS for comment. The White House directed Fox News Digital to DHS.

Araujo, 52, was reportedly transporting workers to a jobsite for a homebuilding company in the Magnolia Park section of Houston.

As critics disputed the government’s recounting of events, objections arose over the lack of bodycams on the agents on-scene.

A DHS spokesperson defended the agents, telling Fox News they had not been issued body-worn cameras because of the repercussions of the Democrat-backed agency shutdown earlier this year.

"The process of purchasing and issuing body-worn cameras to all of our ICE field offices was interrupted by the Democrats multiple government shutdowns. Body cameras have been deployed to more than half the field offices, with the remaining half to receive them in the next 60 days," a spokesperson said, while noting a 1,300% increase in assaults against agents during the same period.

Meanwhile, advocacy group Voto Latino condemned the Araujo incident, saying that the Mexican national should still be alive.

Asked about Sheinbaum’s warning, an ICE spokesperson defended the agency and the accounting of events depicting Araujo as trying to hit an agent.

"[He] refused to follow multiple verbal commands, and weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE law enforcement officer resulting in our officer firing his weapon in self-defense," the spokesperson said.

"DHS-OIG is leading an investigation into the agent-involved shooting. FBI Houston is leading an investigation into the potential assault on a federal law enforcement officer. This is a developing situation, and we will update the public when more information is available."

Israel signals readiness for another Iran strike as Trump declares ceasefire over

Israel’s leaders are publicly signaling that their country is prepared to strike Iran for a third time, while a U.S. official tells Fox News Digital that Washington remains closely coordinated with Jerusalem.

"The IDF is on high alert and prepared to resume the campaign, regain air superiority, and carry out an independent Israeli strike against Iran to eliminate threats — even for a third time," Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Minister Israel Katz said Thursday at a graduation ceremony for the Israeli Air Force’s newest pilots.

"If we have to return, we will return with even greater force," Katz added.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also warned Thursday that Israel’s campaign against Iran was not finished and said Tehran would not be permitted to obtain a nuclear weapon, regardless of any agreement reached with Washington.

"The war has not yet ended," Netanyahu said at the air force ceremony. "Alongside the old challenges, new challenges are emerging. Axes are falling, and axes are rising. We are paying attention to this. We are prepared for every scenario."

Two Israeli sources told CNN Friday that the Trump administration does not currently want Israel to participate in the latest U.S. strikes against Iran.

"Netanyahu would really want to join the U.S. strikes, but the U.S. doesn’t want Israel involved at the moment," one of the sources told CNN.

A U.S. official denied the report, telling Fox News Digital, "This is fake news. The United States has a strong relationship with Israel, which contributed to the resounding success of Operation Midnight Hammer and Operation Epic Fury. We remain in close coordination with our Israeli partners."

Israel first launched a major campaign against Iran in June 2025, with the United States later joining the fighting by striking the Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear facilities. On Feb. 28, the two allies launched a new, coordinated military campaign against Iran.

While Israeli leaders are openly presenting the military as ready for another campaign, some Israeli officials and analysts say there is little appetite for renewed fighting unless it produces a clear strategic result.

The public warnings may overstate Israel’s desire to reenter the fighting, said Israeli analyst and journalist for Israeli newspaper Yedioth Aharonoth, Nadav Eyal.

"On the record, Israel is signaling that it is prepared and even eager to strike Iran. But off the record, sources are saying that it is anything but that," Eyal told Fox News Digital. "The reason is clear: Any Israeli strike in Iran will lead to Iranian ballistic missile attacks against Israel."

Eyal said the domestic political consequences could make Netanyahu reluctant to begin another round of fighting, particularly as Israel approaches another election.

"If these strikes are meant to provide meaningful, strategic change, it is something the prime minister can sell to the public," Eyal said. "But if the intention is only to use Israel as leverage, why should Israelis again experience a couple of weeks or more of sitting in safe rooms and losing their summer vacations, children’s day camps and summer camps? That could play out badly for the prime minister politically."

"The truth is that Israel was not really enthusiastic about another strike," he added. "That doesn’t mean it is not going to happen. If President Trump demands that Netanyahu join, it is very hard to see the Israelis saying no. But right now, I don’t see any passion for it."

The diplomatic outreach continued even as Trump declared that the ceasefire with Iran was over.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us to continue ‘talks.’ We have agreed to do so, but the United States has stated to them, in no uncertain terms, that the Cease Fire is OVER!" Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

A source with knowledge of the situation told Fox News that Qatari negotiators have traveled to Iran, in coordination with the United States, to meet with Iranian officials in an effort to de-escalate the situation and create the conditions for negotiations to resume.

On Thursday, Netanyahu and Trump spoke by phone, according to the Israeli prime minister’s office, which said the two agreed to continue coordinating across several regional fronts. Trump briefed Netanyahu on American operations in the Gulf, the statement said.

The military warnings came as the Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Israel had provided the United States with intelligence about what is described as a fresh Iranian plot to assassinate Trump.

The developments follow renewed attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, where U.S. naval officials said the maritime threat remained "severe." U.S. Naval Forces Central Command reminded commercial vessels Friday that an expanded southern route through the strait remained open and that no controlling authority could require ships to pay a fee for passage.

A U.S. official told Fox News on background that Iran’s attacks against commercial vessels were "acts of terrorism" and constituted failed performance under the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.

"The United States is still committed to finding a resolution, and technical talks continue," the official said. "Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon."

Brig. Gen. Yossi Kuperwasser, a former senior Israeli military intelligence officer who now heads the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security, said Israel had never regarded the memorandum as an adequate guarantee.

"From Israel’s perspective, the MOU was never a good deal," Kuperwasser told Fox News Digital, speaking of the memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran.

"Israel should be on high alert, ready to face an Iranian attack and prepared to strike back if necessary," he added.

For now, Israel’s leaders appear to be leaving Iran — and Washington — with little doubt that they are prepared to act. Whether the United States allows Israel to join the renewed campaign, however, could determine whether the latest confrontation remains limited or develops into another full-scale regional war.

As details continue to emerge from one of the year’s biggest celebrity weddings, New York City officials are also shedding light on the scale of the celebration.

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani revealed this week that Swift "will be paying... has paid already the cost of the permit that was lodged, which was over $160,000 for that event and for the response to that event," according to C-SPAN.

The mayor had seemingly confirmed the wedding days before the July 3 ceremony while warning New Yorkers about soaring temperatures before the holiday weekend.

"My recommendation to all New Yorkers is to stay inside and stay cool," Mamdani said at the time. "And if you happen to be getting married at Madison Square Garden, you will be staying inside and you will be staying cool."

According to The New York Times, permits called for street closures around Madison Square Garden from July 2 through July 4, signaling preparations for a major private event.

Rather than choosing a traditional bridal party, the couple opted to spotlight their families. Jason served as Travis' best man, while Swift's younger brother, Austin Swift, stood beside his sister as her "Man of Honor." The pair did not have additional bridesmaids or groomsmen.

Sinner, 24, defeated Novak Djokovic in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Friday at Centre Court, giving him an opportunity to win consecutive Wimbledon titles. He will play Alexander Zverev in the final on Sunday.

It is the second straight year that Sinner has eliminated Djokovic in the Wimbledon semifinal. It was the 12th time the two have faced each other with Sinner winning seven matches against the 39-year-old.

Neither player blinked in the first set until Jannik Sinner broke Novak Djokovic in the ninth game of the set, taking a 5-4 lead. They both had each held serve until that point.

Sinner held serve in the next game, winning the first set 6-4.

In the second set, both players held serve through six games until Sinner once again drew first blood, breaking Djokovic to take a 4-3 lead. Sinner then held serve to take a 5-3 lead.

Joy Behar rejected former Vice President Kamala Harris as a 2028 candidate for president during an exchange on "The View" Friday, as she told her co-hosts they weren't living in reality while floating candidates who were straight, White men.

The co-hosts discussed the future of the Democratic Party during the show, as Alyssa Farah Griffin said, "But my hot take of the moment is the most likely person to be the Democratic nominee is Kamala Harris. In every poll, she is still — it's usually her and Gavin Newsom neck and neck."

Behar then interrupted and announced she had a better list of choices for the 2028 Democratic nominee.

"I have a better list. I love her, she was great, but she didn't win one time. What makes you think she's going to win again?" Behar asked, appearing to refer to her being swept in all the major swing states by President Donald Trump.

Griffin pushed back and said based on name recognition and the money she raised, she didn't think the party would pass over her for a generic White man.

"I like Jon Ossoff, he's 39 years old. I like Josh Shapiro, 53 years old. Gavin Newsom, 58, and JB Pritzker, 61," Behar said.

Haines pushed back on the identity politics argument propelled by Behar.

"I am not going to break the party down based on 'they won't vote for a gay White man/woman.' I think the identity reduces the charisma of the character, the person in front of us. Because we can't—" she said.

"You're not in reality," Behar then said. "I don't think that's reality."

Haines argued that Democratic voters weren't sitting around and saying, "We're ready for a Black president" when Barack Obama was running and that the former president won voters over on the campaign trail.

She added, "You show them what they're ready for."

Co-host Sunny Hostin agreed with Behar, as the co-hosts got heated.

"Yeah, and you know what? And after President Obama, you know what we got? We got Trump. We got a whitelash against a Black President," Hostin said to audience applause. "And in this country, I wish this country after 250 years were beyond identity, but we are not, and we need to be realistic, and as a Democratic Party, we need to win. We need to get this country back on track."

"Maybe I'm too old at this point for this conversation, but I've been watching this country for a long time, and you've got to be in reality. These past few years that Trump has been in office, he's practically destroying democracy. This is an emergency we're in! We can't play around," Behar said.

Co-host Ana Navarro rejected the notion floated by Behar that the nominee needed to be a White man.

A flyer offering "free athletic shoes from VA" may look official at first glance. It uses VA-style branding, talks about health and wellness and even lists the MyVA phone number. That is what makes it so dangerous.

VA says the message falsely claims Veterans can receive free athletic shoes from VA. The agency says the promotion did not come from VA and has no connection to any official VA program.

The scam appears to be spreading through a flyer and online posts. It tells Veterans they may be eligible for free athletic shoes "at no cost to you." It also shows popular shoe brands, steps to "redeem" shoes and a process that appears to involve a VA provider.

That may be enough to get someone to click, call, share or forward before they stop to think.
