Pete Alonso burns the Mets with game-tying home run as pitcher criticizes fans for giving him curtain call

Pete Alonso felt right at home on Tuesday night.

With the Baltimore Orioles down a run in the top of the ninth inning against the New York Mets, Alonso launched the 300th home run of his career into the Citi Field bleachers to tie the game. The former Mets star who was playing his first series back in Queens slammed his bat in jubilation before he trotted around the bases.

Mets fans cheered for Alonso and even gave him a curtain call. It was clear Mets fans were acting defiantly as they lamented the front office’s decision to let Alonso walk in free agency last year. He said last September he "definitely thought about" re-signing with the Mets but he got an offer from the Orioles he couldn’t refuse.

Instead, it came back to burn the Mets as New York looks to get to the finish line following an extremely disappointing season that has seen the team in the bottom of the barrel in the National League East and trailing the Washington Nationals by 2.5 games for fourth.

Furthermore, on Tuesday, the Orioles won the game 7-5. Baltimore improved to 74-78 on the year and dropped New York to 69-82.

"I appreciate all the support for all the years I’ve been here, all the life I’ve lived here," Alonso said after the game. "Obviously, they’re recognizing that and they appreciate that. It’s a two-way street. Really appreciate it."

The curtain call Mets fans gave Alonso appeared to irk pitcher Sean Manaea.

Manaea got the start, allowed two runs (both solo homers) in 5.1 innings and struck out six.

"As the 2026 Mets, I know we have definitely underperformed. But we are — the guys in here work their (tails) off every single day and to have that kind of reaction to an opposing player — could be anybody — is crazy to me," he said. "Again, I’ve got nothing but respect for Pete. But yeah, just never seen anything like that before.

"Pete’s not here. He’s just not here. So, I know everybody loves him. He’s the man. But, yeah, he’s not here. So, to see the reaction from the fans like that, I don’t know, it’s just different."

Alonso became the first player in MLB history to hit his 300th home run against a team he played 1,000 or more games for.

He also received a standing ovation before his first at-bat on Monday night.

Trump's AI race with China could become the biggest mistake of our time

In less than two weeks, President Donald Trump will welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping to Washington. Trump says AI will be a major topic of their September 24 talks and insists America must stay ahead of China. But the race has acquired a second, more dangerous dimension: some of the people building the world’s most powerful AI systems now warn they are advancing faster than humans can safely control them.

Jacob Coxon, a researcher who worked at both OpenAI and Anthropic, resigned from Anthropic last week with a warning: Competition among frontier labs is driving ever more powerful systems forward before researchers know how to keep them reliably under human control. Coxon told WIRED that colleagues described the next year or two as "crunch time for humanity."

Days later, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei went further. In an essay titled "We Must Pace the Frontier," he argued the industry must deliberately slow how fast it increases model capabilities, so safeguards can catch up. "We must slow the pace at which we improve the capabilities of AI models," Amodei wrote, proposing independent evaluators embedded inside frontier labs, coordinated safety standards among democratic nations and eventually international arrangements covering the most dangerous capabilities. He did not call for halting AI development.

What began as an Anthropic warning quickly became a rare convergence among rivals. OpenAI’s Sam Altman endorsed Amodei’s call for independent evaluators. Elon Musk responded simply, "Dario is right." Google DeepMind’s Demis Hassabis backed the same direction, while Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella warned that superintelligence that does not help humanity and does not remain under human control is not worth pursuing.

AI EXTINCTION WARNINGS DOMINATE HEADLINES AFTER EX-ANTHROPIC EMPLOYEE'S VIRAL POST

None of this proves AI is about to destroy humanity, and some of the alarm deserves skepticism. Anthropic is reportedly preparing an IPO that could value the company at nearly $2 trillion. That raises a fair question: Is some of this rhetoric also advertising the extraordinary power, and therefore potential value, of its technology? Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has accused parts of the industry of stoking cybersecurity fears while preparing products to address them. The incentives deserve scrutiny. But Altman’s decision to delay OpenAI’s IPO until 2027 over safety concerns cuts against the claim that this is merely financial theater.

But America cannot consider these warnings in a vacuum. China changes the calculation. In earlier Fox News columns, I have warned against regulating America into technological defeat, copying Beijing’s surveillance model or treating this as merely a race between chatbots. As I argue in my book, "The New AI Cold War," the competition spans chips, energy, data centers, cyber operations, military power, scientific discovery and global influence.

TRUMP SAYS CHINESE PRESIDENT XI JINPING WILL VISIT US ON SEPT 24

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent captured the strategic bind bluntly: "We can’t pause. You can’t, because the Chinese won’t pause." Trump has now stated the competing imperative just as plainly. Asked Sunday whether AI development should slow, Trump dismissed the warnings as exaggerated, saying unnamed critics were hyping things that won’t happen. "We’re leading China in AI," he said. "Whoever wins AI wins." He said Washington could still add guardrails.

Bessent’s concern is understandable; the administration is pursuing both speed and safeguards. Trump’s Genesis Mission links federal scientific data and supercomputing to AI research across more than 15 agencies. His June national security directive accelerates AI adoption while requiring systems to remain "robust, steerable, controllable" and subject to human accountability. A separate executive order provides for voluntary pre-release federal cybersecurity evaluation of frontier models.

Congress still lacks a comprehensive statutory framework, but the disagreement has become more explicit. House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., rejected an emergency moratorium, warning that if lawmakers rush to regulate, China will close the gap.

Former White House AI advisor David Sacks made the sharper free-market argument: Laboratories that want to slow down can do so themselves. They should not use Washington to force smaller competitors to apply the same brakes.

Other lawmakers are proposing approaches ranging from bans on superintelligence to narrower requirements that developers test and disclose catastrophic risks. Washington broadly agrees that something consequential is happening. It does not agree on what to do about it.

Then there is China. On Sept. 8, U.S. cyber and law enforcement officials accused Chinese AI companies, including DeepSeek, Moonshot AI and Alibaba, of distilling American AI technology "at an industrial scale." Beijing rejected the accusations and called distillation a common industry technique. That dispute exposes the danger of unilateral American restraint. Washington can regulate American laboratories; it cannot order Beijing to accept identical limits.

Beijing made that point explicit this week. Responding Monday to Amodei’s proposal, China’s Foreign Ministry denounced what it called fearmongering and warned that confrontation would disrupt global AI governance. Washington wants China to cooperate on slowing the most dangerous capabilities while restricting Beijing’s access to the chips and model capabilities that could close the gap.

Amodei himself recognizes this: Slowing democratic AI development beyond the American lead could let Chinese Communist Party-linked projects move ahead and create new dangers.

AN AI CYBERATTACK COULD TURN OFF AMERICA'S LIGHTS BEFORE WASHINGTON EVEN UNDERSTANDS WHY

Yet an unrestricted race creates a different danger. Every laboratory races because its rivals race. Every nation accelerates because it fears falling behind. That is the classic security dilemma I have warned about in "The New AI Cold War." Actions one side takes to increase its security can drive the other side to accelerate, leaving both less secure.

The Sept. 24 summit arrives at that moment. Reuters reported preparations for U.S.-China AI safety discussions covering AI-directed cyberattacks and incident information-sharing, though the White House said no separate meeting had been formally scheduled. The choices range from racing ahead to stopping outright. Between them lie more practical options: safety requirements triggered by dangerous capabilities, independent evaluations, and narrow agreements governing catastrophic uses.

And any agreement faces a brutal problem: verification. Nuclear arms control dealt with warheads, missiles and enrichment plants that leave physical signatures; frontier AI resides largely in software, model weights and computing infrastructure. Amodei acknowledges that limited agreements on clearly dangerous applications may be more realistic than a comprehensive pause, while more ambitious restrictions become progressively harder to verify.

That is the defining paradox of the new AI Cold War. America cannot afford to let China dominate artificial intelligence, but competition does not make technological risk disappear. Trump says whoever wins AI wins. Amodei, Altman, Musk and other industry leaders warn that winning the race will mean little if the winner cannot control what it builds. Beijing, meanwhile, says it supports AI cooperation while rejecting an American strategy designed to preserve the U.S. technological advantage.

That leaves Trump and Xi with a harder problem than simply deciding who gets there first. The first AI Cold War question was who would build the most powerful systems. The harder question is whether either side can remain in control of what it builds. With Xi coming to Washington on Sept. 24, that is no longer merely an engineering problem. It is a problem of national strategy.

Attempted Trump assassin Thomas Crooks’ behavior revealed ‘red flags’ before attack: former FBI agent

A former FBI agent says newly released federal documents show Thomas Crooks, the man who attempted to assassinate President Donald Trump, was "spiraling into an almost manic state" before the rally shooting.

The federal documents turned over to the Senate, first reported by the New York Post, show that people close to Crooks, who killed one person and seriously injured two others, noticed odd behavior in the weeks before the attack.

Former FBI Special Agent Jonathan Gilliam told Fox News Digital that the documents turned over to the Senate contained several "red flags" about Crooks.

"These are definitely examples of somebody who is mentally not stable and also somebody who was spiraling into almost a manic or delusional state," Gilliam said. "When you combine somebody who is delusional, somebody who's hearing voices and is having almost a manic type of episode... with potential influence either by persons that they're around or things that they see online... it's very possible that that is the large part of this equation that we just have not seen."

While Crooks was "never into explosives," an unclassified memo from the FBI states that an individual confronted him about "a gallon jug of something that he said was used to clean the bed of his 3D printer."

The individual, who was redacted in the documents, didn't believe Crooks' explanation as his "ears would flame red when he lied." It's unknown when the individual confronted Crooks about the gallon jug.

That same unidentified individual said that Crooks began to "get more agitated" as he got older and "talked to himself a lot."

"After community college, he would talk to himself more and more, moving his hands and speaking to himself... Sometimes Thomas would stay up dancing all night," the individual said, noting he "seemed to have endless energy."

The individual, who appeared to be close with Crooks, said that when confronted about the habit, Crooks would "admit to talking to himself" but denied hearing voices in his head.

"Sometimes he would stay up all night, always endless energy," an FBI notepad read.

The individual who appeared close with Crooks described his nighttime behavior to the FBI.

"THOMAS would be in [redacted] at night and it sounded like he was dancing and whispering each night. About two to three times each week, he would pace through [redacted] When [redacted] confronted THOMAS about the pacing, THOMAS would say that he was bored and trying to entertain himself. [redacted] worked [redacted] and the pacing was [redacted] distracting [redacted]," the FBI memo stated.

One of Crooks' coworkers told law enforcement that in the weeks before the attack, he "opened up a little more" and became more "excited about going to school."

Crooks was planning to attend Robert Morris University to study mechanical engineering and graduated with an associate degree in engineering science from the Community College of Allegheny County.

Around the time Crooks was taking these firearm courses, he was spotted with two people at Keystone Armory in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, on May 25, 2024, when he bought 20 rounds of Red Army 7.62x54R for $19.07.

"The individual believed to be Crooks was accompanied by a white male believed to be around his mid 30's and another older white male with a gray beard, potentially one of the individual's father. The individual believed to be Crooks and the two other males can be seen wandering throughout the firearms store looking at various firearms," the FBI document stated.

The documents also make reference to a redacted individual, believed to be Crooks, "purchased ammo online going site to site until he found one that would sell to him."

FBI Director Kash Patel testified on Tuesday at a Senate Oversight Committee hearing that there's no evidence that Crooks was connected with anyone else.

"We found no evidence that that individual was literally even speaking to any other human being other than his parents, who he resided with," Patel testified.

The documents show the FBI contacted at least one foreign government during its investigation into the assassination attempt but offer no further detail on why.

Rare cancer cases strike in California community as families demand answers

A cluster of rare cancer diagnoses has sparked concern and prompted environmental testing in Ladera Ranch, California, although state health officials say no specific cause has been identified.

At least six children in the area have been diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, according to federal officials and local reporting.

This exceptionally rare cancer, which forms in the bone or nearby soft tissue, primarily occurs in adolescents and young adults, per the National Cancer Institute.

"Knowing that this is a very rare cancer diagnosis amplifies the concerns," Dr. Janet Yoon, a pediatric oncologist and sarcoma specialist at City of Hope in Los Angeles, told Fox News Digital. "Anytime you hear of cases in a geographic location, it does raise some concerns ... I can completely understand why further investigation is being done."

Following the March 2026 death of 17-year-old Brody Matteson from complications of treatment for Ewing sarcoma, more families began speaking publicly about rare cancer diagnoses in the community, according to local reports.

Community seeks answers

Some residents – including Matteson's father, Dustin Matteson – have suggested the illnesses could be linked to the community's use of herbicides and pesticides, which prompted calls for a broader environmental investigation.

"We don't have a clear line of evidence for pesticides, but it is one of the things that concerns us," Matteson said to NBC Los Angeles in July.

In 2024, prompted by residents’ concerns, the California Department of Public Health conducted a county-level review in an attempt to determine whether pesticide use in the community could have played a role in the development of certain cancer types.

"That analysis did not find an unusual pattern at the county level, but the data available at the time was limited," the CDPH stated on its website.

The agency is now conducting a second review of cancer incidence data for the Ladera Ranch area.

"CDPH currently estimates the assessment will be completed in fall 2026, although the timeline may change based on the scope and complexity of the review and any additional information that may need to be evaluated," the agency stated.

"At this time, our colleagues at CalEPA (California Environmental Protection Agency) and its boards, departments and offices have not identified any immediate environmental hazards."

The CDPH stated that it is not yet known whether diagnoses of Ewing sarcoma and other cancer types are higher than expected in the Ladera Ranch community – or whether environmental factors can increase the risk.

In July 2026, First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli asked the Environmental Protection Agency to investigate possible environmental factors that could have contributed to multiple pediatric cancer cases.

Over the summer, hundreds of residents gathered at community meetings. At the same time, Ladera Ranch Maintenance Corporation (LARMAC) – the master homeowners association (HOA) for the planned community of Ladera Ranch in Orange County – temporarily paused its use of certain landscape chemicals and formed an advisory committee to review its landscaping practices.

As the investigation has continued, some residents have also publicly reported diagnoses of other cancers, including glioblastoma, although the current state review has not established whether those cases are related.

On Sept. 14, California State Fullerton researchers began collecting soil and water samples from local parks as part of the environmental investigation.

Jennifer Piazza, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Public Health at Cal State Fullerton, assembled a team of researchers to help address the environmental concerns stemming from the pediatric cancer cases.

"Environmental sampling is the first step of our larger, ongoing scientific investigation," she told Fox News Digital. "We are collecting soil and water samples across Ladera Ranch. They are being analyzed for heavy metals, such as arsenic and lead, as well as pesticides."

The team expects to have results by the end of the year, Piazza said.

"I also want to emphasize that whatever we find does not imply causality in terms of the pediatric cancer cases in Ladera Ranch," she added.

LARMAC released a statement to People magazine, extending its "heartfelt compassion to the families who have been affected by these devastating illnesses."

"LARMAC takes these concerns seriously. We are aware that public health agencies are reviewing available information, and we will continue to cooperate with those efforts and follow guidance provided by the appropriate health and regulatory authorities."

"At this time, we are not aware of any determination by those agencies identifying a specific environmental cause or linking the Association’s landscape management practices to these illnesses," the statement read.

The organization also noted that it has reduced the use of synthetic pesticides and switched to organic pesticides.

What to know about Ewing sarcoma

"With Ewing sarcoma, there is no confirmed genetic or environmental cause that we know of," Yoon told Fox News Digital.

"We have not found any confirmed genetic or environmental factor that increases the likelihood of developing Ewing sarcoma."

Some studies have linked occupational or high-level exposure to certain pesticides with an increased risk of several cancers, although the evidence varies by chemical and cancer type, according to the American Cancer Society.

No known lifestyle-related or environmental cause of Ewing sarcoma has been identified, the ACS states.

The disease most often presents as persistent pain rather than a typical sports injury or growing pain, according to Yoon.

"It's pain that persists. It's pain that wakes them up from their sleep. It's pain that limits their daily activities."

The doctor called cancer the "great masquerader" in children due to its rarity. "Growing pains are much more common than cancer," she added.

Yoon encouraged families to seek medical evaluation if pain is persistent, worsening or interfering with normal activities. Specialized cancer centers with sarcoma expertise can help ensure an accurate diagnosis, she advised.

Coffee lovers have a new No. 1 city and it's not Portland or Seattle

The country's best city for coffee lovers is not Seattle, Portland or even New York, according to a new report.

Best known for its area theme parks, Orlando, Florida, has been brewing up a new attraction as America's top destination for coffee lovers, a WalletHub analysis found.

The City Beautiful took the No. 1 spot in WalletHub's ranking of the 100 largest U.S. cities, edging out Portland, Oregon, which fell from first place last year to No. 2.

Miami ranked No. 3, followed by Long Beach, California, at No. 4 and Seattle, the birthplace of Starbucks, at No. 5.

The results offer a new definition of what makes a great coffee city today. While coffee is a daily habit for 66% of Americans, according to the National Coffee Association, coffee drinkers are increasingly looking for affordable, reliable, highly rated shops that have free Wi-Fi instead of trendy cafés.

Coffee shops increasingly serve as workspaces and social hubs for tourists, students and remote workers, WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo, based in South Carolina, told Fox News Digital.

Lupo said Orlando's tourism-driven economy means visitors often need a reliable place to charge their phones, connect to free Wi-Fi and save money where they can.

"People want to have a coffee, they may want to go in and scroll for a little while before they hit Disney World, so they want to make the rest of the experience as affordable as they can to spend more of their money on the tourist attraction," Lupo said.

Orlando is also home to the University of Central Florida, he added.

"There's a lot of broke college kids out there, and they're already spending the little money they have on coffee, so they don't want to have to pay for the Wi-Fi also," Lupo explained.

Cities that attract young adults and college students also ranked highly, including Pittsburgh at No. 9 and Austin, Texas, at No. 10. Pittsburgh's growing med-tech and tech sectors have helped draw young professionals to the city, Lupo said.

Lupo was most surprised that this year's ranking included three Florida cities in its top 10. Tampa landed at No. 6.

"You have three cities in Florida — hot, muggy, warm weather pretty much year-round — and also you have Long Beach, a Southern California city," he said, adding that they could be opting for an iced coffee.

"Maybe that's how a lot of folks start off their day, drinking a cold iced coffee first thing in the morning."

Of the 100 cities WalletHub examined, it measured "coffee friendliness," including the price of packaged coffee and cappuccinos, household coffee spending, the share of residents with coffee makers and the number of coffee shops per capita.

The personal finance company also weighed the availability of affordable coffee shops that have at least 4.5-star reviews, free Wi-Fi, coffee and tea manufacturers, doughnut shops and local interest based on Google searches.

In cities such as New York, rising coffee prices and pressure on small, independent shops may help explain why the Big Apple landed at No. 44, Lupo said.

The ranking also underscores how a daily coffee habit affects the wallet.

Households in the most coffee-crazy cities can spend up to $327 a year on the beverage, while frequent espresso and cappuccino drinkers may save by preparing drinks at home, WalletHub found.

Lupo noted that several lower-ranked cities, including Laredo, Texas; Toledo, Ohio; Detroit; Memphis, Tennessee; and Lubbock, Texas, are places where residents may have less room in their budgets for coffee purchases.

"When grocery costs are at a premium, usually one of the first places you'll cut back [is] things like coffee," he said.

Buying a coffee or espresso machine for home can "pretty much pay for itself in the first couple of months," Lupo added.

As for the year ahead, Lupo said he will be watching to see if Portland can reclaim its top spot.

Texans' Azeez Al-Shaair to be fined once again by NFL for wearing Pro-Palestinian personal message on eyeblack

Houston Texans middle linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair will be fined $11,492 by the NFL for breaking the league's rules on "personal messages" because he inscribed the name of a Palestinian girl on his eyeblack in tribute to her memory during Sunday's regular-season opener against the Buffalo Bills.

Al-Shaair, who is Muslim, wrote the name of Hind Rajab on his eyeblack during the 36-31 loss to the Bills and kept it on even as reporters entered the Texans locker room to interview players afterward.

The NFL sent Al-Shaair a letter saying he was in violation of Rule 6, Section 4, Article 8 of the rulebook.

The rule:

"Throughout the period on game day that a player is visible to the stadium and television audience (including in pregame warmups, in the bench area, and during postgame interviews in the locker room or on the field), players are prohibited from wearing, displaying, or otherwise conveying personal messages either in writing or illustration, unless such message has been approved in advance by the League office."

The NFL did not approve of Al-Shaair, or any player, wearing a personal tribute to Rajab on Sunday.

What makes Al-Shaair's decision to wear the five-year-old girl's name on his equipment controversial is that practically all things involving Gaza and Israel are charged with emotion for Muslims and Jews and their respective supporters.

Muslims view Rajab as a martyr who was killed at the hands of the Israeli Defense Forces in Gaza City in January 2024. People like Al-Shaair view Rajab's death as evidence that Israel is waging a genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza.

The IDF, meanwhile, maintains the killing was a horrible mistake amid the fog of war. That war, by the way, started when Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, and killed approximately 1,200 men, women, and children and took others hostage.

In August, the IDF acknowledged that its troops had fired at the vehicle carrying Rajab, her aunt, uncle and four cousins. Although Rajab survived that attack, a Red Crescent ambulance that appeared on the scene was also fired upon and 12 days later the bodies of Rajab, her family and two men from the ambulance were recovered.

The IDF ordered a criminal investigation. Israeli media outlets Ynet and The Times of Israel reported that the IDF’s internal review said the car had approached Israeli positions while traveling against an announced evacuation direction.

Al-Shaair clearly intended to send an anti-Israel message with his Rajab inscription and it is not the first time.

In January, the linebacker was fined $11,593 for wearing eyeblack on which he inscribed the slogan "Stop the Genocide."

These fines, by the way, are something of a pittance for Al-Shaair. He signed a three-year contract extension worth $54 million in the offseason. The contract included a $14 million signing bonus.

Players subject to NFL accountability measures receive a letter informing them of what they did, a video of the play in question if that applies, why they are being fined, and how much it will cost them.

They also receive information on how to appeal the fine. If they choose not to appeal, the fine is withheld from their next game check.

If a player protests a ruling, he schedules a hearing with the NFL, and his case is assigned to one of the league’s current appeals officers.

It was only a matter of time before the peanut gallery complained about what amounts to an understandable decision by Robert Kraft to bounce pro-Palestinian rapper Macklemore from his house.

The lead peanut of the gallery on Tuesday was New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

She/her – gotta respect the communist/socialist/liberal pronoun thing – didn't like Kraft banning Macklemore and his show that includes antisemitic allegations of genocide by the Jewish state of Israel from Gillette Stadium – which Kraft owns.

"But it doesn't stop there. It could be speaking out about AI. It could be speaking out about any issue that you can now just get a handful of stadium owners to ensure that an entire person's career can be jeopardized if they speak out about any issue."

Firstly, it has not been confirmed that Kraft rallied his fellow NFL owners to keep Macklemore's rants out of their stadiums and thus prompt the concert promoter to jettison him from Ed Sheeran's tour. That unconfirmed allegation was made by Macklemore.

But suppose Kraft did exactly what Macklemore said and AOC repeated ... how is that an attack on free speech?

If we live in a country where a Jewish man must open his business to obscene anti-Jewish lunatics spewing lies and hate, then how long before Black business owners must serve customers who are openly and verbally racist at their place of business?

AOC's position is on-brand illogical and not the least bit based on the Constitution.

We've unfortunately come to expect this from the congresswoman and her so-called "Squad." And it gets worse.

Notice AOC called what is happening in Gaza a genocide. She says it all the time. She says it casually, as do all pro-Palestinian advocates.

That's right, the people who want to drive the world's only Jewish state off the map, with their "river-to-the-sea" protests, are claiming their people are the victims of genocide.

The Israeli genocide accusation always masks the fact that Hamas started a war on Oct. 7, 2023, by killing 1,200 Jews, including civilians, women, children and even babies.

And as Kraft noted in a statement, "only sharing selective information and ignoring the actions of Hamas is not honest and only advances more divisiveness and hate."

Last week, AOC made sure to sit with New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani during the solemn September 11th Remembrance Ceremony near where the Twin Towers used to stand. Both continually perpetuate the genocide lie.

The families of the victims of September 11th gathered over 100,000 signatures to petition Mamdani to skip the event. Again, AOC made sure to sit with him.

But she is not the only one condemning Kraft and his fellow NFL stadium owners.

The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) released a statement demanding Sheeran and the tour promoters reinstate Macklemore.

"They should pursue legal options or reschedule his tour rather than give in to bullying by billionaires who care about free speech as much as they care about slaughtered Palestinian children," the statement read.

CAIR, by the way, is designated in Texas and Florida as a terrorist or criminal organization. And whether that designation sticks or not, this truth does:

CAIR would never release a statement demanding a privately held mosque allow the preaching of the Gospel. It would never demand rights for women to mix among men during worship in those mosques.

And it would never demand that Robert Kraft be allowed to enter any mosque and read the books of the Torah.

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle’s school-run problems shouldn’t 'come as a surprise,’ royal expert says

None of the security and logistical concerns that forced Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to switch the school their children were attending in England should have been a surprise, according to royal experts.

"The logistics haven’t changed since Harry and Meghan plotted their U.K. return," Kinsey Schofield, host of YouTube’s "Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered," told Fox News Digital. "None of this should have come as a surprise."

Schofield said that her sources were warning her about the traffic around the school two weeks ago, "before Archie and Lili had even started. When I spoke to people locally, the school-run traffic was one of the very first issues they raised with me."

The royal couple moved their family from California to the Cotswolds, outside of London, late last month.

Why is this all played out in the public domain? Security issues should be private. And, most importantly, they knew the limitations and requirements of their private security operation."

Altogether, that could have been a 45-munute commute four times a day, she stressed. "It was always an ambitious school run."

"My sympathy is with Archie and Lili," Schofield added. "Thankfully, children are resilient and this happened very early in the term, but ideally these basic practical considerations would have been resolved before they ever walked through the school gates."

She said the couple "appear to have moved quickly to establish the children at their new school, and hopefully their priority now is consistency. The last thing these children need after moving countries and changing schools is another unnecessary disruption."

Individually, there may be perfectly reasonable explanations for each decision, but collectively they create an impression of instability."

A spokesperson for the Sussexes told several outlets, "The decision for the children to move schools was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements. The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care and effort they have shown their family. This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there."

Charlie Kirk's family alleges UVU knew of rooftop security risk before his assassination: legal filing

Charlie Kirk's family has filed a notice of claim — a precursor to a lawsuit — against Utah Valley University, the state and key individuals involved in campus leadership and security decisions, alleging that their failures led to the Turning Point USA founder's wrongful death.

"The risk of a rooftop shooter should have been especially top-of-mind given the attempted assassination of President Trump, Charlie Kirk’s close friend and political ally, by a rooftop shooter the previous year," reads the filing, signed by Kirk family attorneys Loren Washburn, Brett Parkinson and Clifford Parkinson and dated Sept. 9.

In one alleged exchange cited in the filing, Turning Point USA organizers told UVU Police Chief Jeffrey Long that UVU students had informed them of rooftop access to the Sorenson Center, a building "pretty close" to where Kirk would be speaking the day he was killed — and directly west of the Losee Center, which is where his alleged killer fired the shot from.

"If this is true, it would be nice to either have it controlled access or allow one of my guys to be there as well," someone at TPUSA wrote to the chief, according to the filing. "If possible."

Kirk, a 31-year-old father of two, was shot and killed on Sept. 10, 2025 in the campus courtyard, and authorities say a lone gunman took a sniper's perch on the Losee Center rooftop on the far side of the clearing. Lawyers for the suspect, 23-year-old Tyler Robinson, pleaded not guilty on his behalf at an arraignment nearly a year later.

"His murder was entirely preventable and, in fact, would not have happened had the State of Utah and UVU followed through on their stated security promises, which included protecting the rooftops surrounding the quad where Charlie was speaking," said Brett Parkinson, counsel for the Kirk family. "Those failures not only robbed Charlie Kirk of his life, but also robbed his family of their husband, father, son, and brother, with impacts that will compound for the rest of their lives."

The prospective plaintiffs in the filing are Kirk's widow, Erika Kirk, and their two juvenile children. It also acknowledges potential claims from his parents, Robert and Kathryn. The filing does not specify monetary damages. In addition to the wrongful death claim, it also raises a claim of "state-created danger" under the U.S. Constitution.

Kirk, who built TPUSA into the country's largest conservative campus and youth-oriented activist organization in the country, also spoke at the Republican National Conventions in 2016, 2020 and 2024. He had become a personal friend of the president's as well as other prominent figures, including leading Utah politicians, the notice continues.

As a result, he had detractors, faced death threats, and publicly spoke about that before his assassination.

"You should not have to walk around with security for your entire family and for myself just because you support a politician or political candidate or certain values," he said at an event in May 2025.

"We get death threats," he continued. "People want to murder us."

Political violence was on the rise as Kirk geared up for TPUSA's 2025 campus speaking events, titled, "The American Comeback Tour." The filing references the numerous attempts on Trump's life, the home invasion hammer attack on California Rep. Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul, and the murders of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark.

"Tragically, the UVU Parties failed to rise to the occasion," the filing alleges. "Through a series of stunning failures and reckless decisions, the UVU Parties created a foreseeable danger to Charlie."

The allegations include a failure to perform a meaningful risk assessment or understand the significance of Kirk's visit to the UVU campus. Campus police allegedly did not have a written security plan or hold a security briefing in advance.

The second was "walking [Kirk] into a fishbowl" — surrounded on all sides by tall buildings or other elevated positions. "The UVU Parties could have declined to approve the Tour event in the outdoor quad location, or could have moved the venue indoors or to a more secure location, as it had done for controversial speakers in the past," according to the filing. The school also failed to dedicate additional resources for the outdoor venue despite the allegedly greater risk.

There were only six campus police officers assigned to the event, while Kirk's appearance attracted roughly 3,000 spectators, according to the filing.

"On information and belief, [UVU Campus Police] Chief Jeffrey Long requested approval from then-UVU President, Astrid Tuminez, to allocate more than the six officers — which represented only 25% of the UVU police force — but his request was denied," the filing continues.

After the denial, campus police did not seek additional resources from neighboring departments, such as the Orem or Provo police departments, according to the filing.

"The UVU Parties’ planning was so deficient that when Mr. Kirk was shot first responders were not available and Mr. Kirk was transported to Timpanogos Regional Hospital in a private vehicle, not an ambulance," the notice continues.

Although the campus had a security camera system, footage was not monitored in real time, according to the filing — and there were no drones to monitor rooftops or any other part of the "sprawling outdoor event."

"After-the-fact review of the footage at the Preliminary Hearing in the criminal prosecution of the alleged shooter Tyler Robinson showed the shooter running across the roof of the Losee Building to a 'sniper’s nest,'" attorneys for the Kirk family wrote. "If such footage had been monitored in real-time, Kirk’s tragic death could have been avoided."

Despite warnings to the police chief about rooftop access in the area, the Losee Center rooftop was not secured. This, according to the filing, happened despite the fact that students were known to frequent the rooftop and people often found discarded "beer bottles and other trash" or paraphernalia there.

Together, all the alleged failures placed Kirk's life in danger, according to the filing.

"He was legally entitled to believe that when the UVU Parties approved the Tour event to be held on campus on September 10, that the UVU Parties would only hold the event in a venue and with associated security measures that made the event safe for him to attend and participate in," the notice reads. "Instead, Mr. Kirk was exposed to the danger of a rooftop shooter that took his life."

Critics are slamming Norway over new legislation that they say singles out Jews. The proposed law could send individuals to prison for up to three years for knowingly conducting certain forms of business with Israeli communities in the West Bank.

The proposal, introduced by Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, would prohibit the importation of goods originating in Israeli communities in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem and the exportation of goods to those communities. It would also restrict certain real estate transactions, construction and engineering services and investments in businesses headquartered and operating there.

Intentional violations could result in fines, imprisonment for up to three years or both, while negligent violations could carry fines, imprisonment for up to six months or both, according to Section 7 of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ official consultation document.

The measure remains under public consultation, with responses due Sept. 19, and has not yet been enacted.

Instead of contributing to peace or regional stability, Norway has chosen political grandstanding, selective outrage and punitive measures against Israel," Danon said. The Israeli Foreign Ministry’s Northern Europe Department also referred Fox News Digital to a statement it posted on X condemning the proposal.

"Norway’s legislative proposal to criminalize trade with Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria is the latest example of the Norwegian foreign minister’s obsessive anti-Israel activism on the global stage. Norway has repeatedly chosen to sacrifice its bilateral relationship with Israel in favor of one-sided rhetoric and hostile actions that serve domestic interests, undermine efforts to reach peaceful solutions, and are completely detached from the reality in the Middle East."

In response to a request for comment from Fox News Digital, Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs referred the outlet to its June 19 press release announcing the proposed legislation. The release states that Israeli settlements violate international law and undermine prospects for a two-state solution in which Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace and freedom.

"By proposing legally binding prohibitions, the government makes it clear that Norwegian citizens and Norwegian companies must not profit from or support activities that help sustain Israel’s unlawful settlement activity in Palestine," Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said in the release.

Eide also said the settlements contribute to "displacement, extreme violence and a situation that makes a peaceful solution impossible."

UN AGENCY ACCUSED OF HAMAS TIES SEES ANOTHER EUROPEAN NATION CUT FUNDING

The ministry cited United Nations Security Council findings and International Court of Justice advisory opinions supporting its position on the settlements’ illegality. It said the proposed restrictions would cover imports and exports, property purchases, certain property-related services and acquisitions of businesses with headquarters and production in the settlements, while safeguarding legitimate Palestinian activities and humanitarian assistance.

The proposed legislation would exempt humanitarian activities, as well as transactions the government determines have "sufficient Palestinian ties" and do not contribute to the construction, expansion or maintenance of Israeli communities.

Dag Juliussen, national director of the Norwegian branch of the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, said that the exemption could permit business with Palestinian residents while criminalizing comparable transactions involving Jewish residents in the same territory.

"The bill is based on a fundamentally misguided understanding of the Middle East conflict, which in turn rests on a rewriting of history," Juliussen said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "In addition, such a law would effectively serve as a reward for terrorism and, at its core, is deeply racist toward Jews."

The consultation document does not characterize the proposal as targeting Jews. Instead, it says the measure is intended to prevent commercial activity that helps maintain Israeli communities beyond the pre-1967 lines, while shielding qualifying Palestinian commerce and humanitarian assistance.

Under the proposal, exemptions would be evaluated according to the people involved who benefit from the transaction and whether the activity contributes to the construction, expansion or maintenance of an Israeli community.

Juliussen said purchasing agricultural products from Muslim, Christian, Arab or Bedouin residents could be permitted, while purchasing similar products from Jewish residents could become a criminal offense. He argued that the determining factor would effectively be the identity of the seller.

Norway formally recognized a Palestinian state in 2024 and has become one of Israel’s strongest European critics since the Hamas-led terrorist attacks of Oct. 7, 2023.

Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed faced roughly an hour of pointed questions Tuesday over his ties to controversial streamer Hasan Piker, his views on Israel, campaign money and his socialist ties after his Republican rival Mike Rogers declined to participate in a scheduled debate in Detroit Tuesday night.

El-Sayed offered one of his most explicit condemnations yet of Piker's controversial rhetoric, declined to give a yes-or-no answer when pressed on U.S. recognition of Israel as a Jewish state and pushed back on questions about his relationship with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) during the wide-ranging conversation with the moderator.

Rogers did not attend Tuesday's event after declining the station's invitation earlier in the day, leaving El-Sayed to field questions from moderator Roop Raj, viewers and members of the studio audience.

FOX 2 said both campaigns were invited on Aug. 5, the day after Michigan's primary, and that El-Sayed quickly accepted, while Rogers did not formally decline until the morning of the Tuesday debate due to objections over Raj serving as the moderator, arguing he was biased.

On Tuesday evening, Raj pressed El-Sayed on whether he could "completely, 100%" disavow offensive comments Piker had made. The question came just two days after El-Sayed resisted questioning about Piker during an appearance on CBS News' "Face the Nation."

"Absolutely," El-Sayed responded to Raj about disavowing Piker's controversial comments, before specifically addressing the streamer's recent remarks about Jewish Americans.

"When Hasan made these comments about Jewish Americans and Jewish Michiganders, I disavowed them entirely," El-Sayed said.

EL-SAYED DISTANCES HIMSELF FROM HASAN PIKER AFTER DISTURBING REMARKS ABOUT JEWISH AMERICANS

El-Sayed went further Tuesday when Raj continued pressing him, saying there were "many, many things" Piker has said that he disagreed with and specifically pointing to the streamer's comments about 9/11 and Jewish Americans. Still, El-Sayed defended his decision to engage with Piker, arguing that speaking with someone does not amount to endorsing all of that person's views and saying he wanted to offer Piker's millions of followers "a pathway back into our politics."

Meanwhile, El-Sayed declined to give a yes-or-no answer when pressed on whether the United States should continue recognizing Israel as a Jewish state, instead saying he believes "in equal rights to peace, dignity and self-determination for Palestinians and Jewish Israelis alike."

"People ask this question about the right of the state that actually exists to exist, but I never get asked about the right of the state that does not exist to exist," he continued. "I don't get asked about whether or not the state that exists has a right to use our tax dollars to do heinous things. I don't get asked about whether or not the kids in Detroit have a right to their tax dollars, so I just think the premise of the question is built around trying to ask people to agree to the current status quo that we have seen become a deeply unstable, deeply violent equilibrium."

At another tense point, El-Sayed accused Rogers of trying to turn the race into a "culture war" focused on El-Sayed's ethnicity and Muslim faith. The accusation came as El-Sayed bypassed a direct answer on whether he would return campaign contributions from individuals affiliated with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

Fox News Digital previously reported that El-Sayed's campaign received more than $115,000 from at least 41 individuals who worked for, previously worked for or held leadership roles with CAIR, which has faced longstanding controversy over alleged ties to Hamas and was named as an unindicted co-conspirator by federal prosecutors in the 2007 Holy Land Foundation terrorism-financing case. CAIR has also been designated a terrorist organization by the United Arab Emirates and formally designated or labeled as such in Florida and Texas.

El-Sayed defended the organization as a civil rights group and accused Rogers of trying to make the election "about the color of my skin or how I pray."

The exchange came after El-Sayed repeatedly criticized Rogers over his own campaign funding, accusing the Republican of being beholden to corporations. El-Sayed also questioned Rogers earlier in the event over his attendance at American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) fundraisers while discussing Israel.

"I believe in an America that is big enough for all of us: Mike Rogers, Donald Trump, JD Vance," El-Sayed said Tuesday night. "They believe that some people are more American than others. They think that if you pray a different way, your family comes from a different place, that somehow there's an asterisk on your American identity."

Raj, the moderator, followed up, noting that, "JD Vance is the father of the children to an Indian American," and adding that the "second lady is an Indian woman who came to this country."

"I think there is diversity amongst that party," he said.

El-Sayed also pushed back Tuesday night when he was questioned about his relationship with the DSA and whether he shares significant values with the group.

"I'm not a part of the organization," El-Sayed responded before defending his view of capitalism and arguing that corporate consolidation, rather than government regulation, poses the greater threat to free markets.

"We don't live in capitalism. We live in corporatism," he continued. "You don't have to be a socialist to believe that people deserve health care. You don't have to be a socialist to believe that we need good roads."

El-Sayed has repeatedly rejected the socialist label and described himself as a capitalist. The DSA did not endorse his Senate campaign, though prominent democratic socialists have supported, or have been affiliated with his candidacy. CBS News reported last month that El-Sayed said he was not part of DSA but believed the group's supporters should be welcomed into the Democratic Party's coalition.

Fox News Digital previously reported that El-Sayed spoke at six events held by DSA chapters between 2017 and 2020, including a 2019 fundraiser where he served as a keynote speaker. Socialist organizers have also described El-Sayed as a "longtime friend of Detroit DSA," while El-Sayed told the Wall Street Journal in July that he was "not technically or practically DSA."

The candidates are scheduled to meet Oct. 8 at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids and again Oct. 21 at WXYZ in Detroit ahead of the November general election.

The attacks of September 11 fundamentally changed how the United States thinks about national security. Over the past 25 years, we've invested enormous resources in aviation security, intelligence and counterterrorism to ensure it never happens again.

But threats evolve.

We don't get to choose how our adversaries attack us. History suggests they'll look for the vulnerabilities we've overlooked. And while we’ve bolstered our security and response capabilities, it’s very likely the next major conflict will find its way to our shores again with unconventional attacks on our homeland.

AMERICA BUILT A FORTRESS AFTER 9/11. THEN THE THREAT STARTED HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT

As we become more electronically interconnected and dependent, regardless of where the physical battles occur, the conflicts will extend domestically intent to cause disruption, panic, chaos and potential loss of lives.

The U.S. must be prepared for the evolution of threats. Not designed to destroy buildings or critical infrastructure but instead designed to disrupt the core systems that allow the country to function. There is no need to physically destroy our economic, emergency response, transportation and agriculture systems if a single act can render them severely compromised.

FOREIGN ENEMIES HAVE A SHOCKINGLY SIMPLE WAY TO TRACK US TROOPS OVERSEAS, LAWMAKERS WARN

Our vulnerability is well documented because so much of modern life depends on a foundational core: knowing where things are. In fact, it is an assumption so deeply embedded in everyday life that it is almost invisible. Position underpins how trucks move across the country, how food is planted and harvested, how utilities restore power after disasters, how emergency responders reach people in need and how military forces maneuver, coordinate, and sustain operations. The world does not simply run on roads, communications, banking systems or the internet. It runs on position.

GPS performs so reliably that we've built both military and civilian systems around the assumption that it will always be both available and trustworthy. That assumption is becoming harder to defend.

Recent conflicts have demonstrated that GPS interference, spoofing and electronic warfare are no longer isolated events. They have become recurring features of modern conflict. So common that the Department of War has made the ability to function without position (contested logistics) one of its top priorities. According to the U.S. Space Force, China is actively developing and fielding counterspace capabilities intended to disrupt and degrade U.S. space-enabled capabilities. Those include anti-satellite weapons, electronic warfare systems and technologies designed to interfere with satellite operations. Our enemy is giving us their future playbook.

Governments have publicly warned that adversaries continue expanding their ability to jam, spoof and disrupt satellite-based positioning. The methods vary, but they expose the same underlying dependency: countless systems rely on information that originates thousands of miles above the Earth. In June, researchers linked several brief, widespread GNSS interference events across Europe to transmissions from Russian satellites. They identified at least three incidents lasting up to 10 seconds.

FBI WARNS BATTLEFIELD-STYLE DRONE ATTACKS COULD REACH US: 'ONLY A MATTER OF TIME'

The reality is that every mile between the vehicle and space is another opportunity for an adversary to disrupt position. The vulnerability is not GPS itself. It is the assumption that vehicles — on the battlefield, on our highways or on city streets — foundationally depend on an external system to function.

The very techniques used in conflict zones can, and likely will, also be used domestically and at large scale. And, unlike our warfighters, we are not prepared.

During COVID, we experienced just a shadow of how quickly uncertainty surrounding essential goods affected public behavior and exposed the fragility of supply chains. A widespread disruption to positioning would not necessarily stop every vehicle or shut down every road. It would, however, introduce uncertainty into transportation, emergency response, fuel distribution, logistics and commerce at precisely the moment continuity matters most. While not physical terrorism, this economic terrorism would have profound implications for military mobility, emergency response, logistics and the broader economy.

According to a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)-commissioned study, a nationwide loss of GPS services would cost the U.S. economy an estimated $1 billion every day. That figure reflects direct economic impacts. The broader effects on emergency response, logistics, transportation and public confidence are far more difficult to quantify.

At the same time, the United States is investing billions of dollars in autonomous systems, robotic logistics, AI-enabled command and control and next-generation military capabilities. Much of the public discussion focuses on what those technologies will eventually do. Far less attention has been paid to what they fundamentally require before they can do any of it. Whether a vehicle is operated by a soldier or independently, it must continuously know its position and remain capable of accomplishing its mission.

The United States should continue investing in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, robotic logistics, and the technologies that will shape the future battlefield. But preparing for tomorrow cannot come at the expense of preparing for today. Twenty-five years after 9/11, the lesson is not simply that we must prepare for another attack. It is that we must prepare for the next kind of attack. The vulnerabilities are different, but the objective is the same. Strengthening the foundations that keep military forces, emergency responders and critical infrastructure moving should be treated as a national priority, not an afterthought.

Innovation and readiness are not competing priorities. The best innovation strengthens readiness.

Four upgrades could decide whether America's carriers keep their edge over China

The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln is heading for home port in San Diego, while USS George H. W. Bush and USS George Washington remain on station in the North Arabian Gulf executing strikes and upholding the steel wall naval blockade. America’s aircraft carriers are more important than ever, and Lincoln and her crew of 5,000 will get a warm welcome.

But, back in Washington, D.C., stormy weather is brewing for the carrier fleet. And one rogue wave coming directly from the White House could imperil the Navy in a future fight against China.

First, a shout-out to Lincoln's combat success in the Middle East, including taking out 200 Iranian drones threatening commercial shipping. And oh yes, the Iranians tried and failed to target the Lincoln. "Since we’ve gotten here, and during Operation Epic Fury, the Iranians were looking for opportunities to attack this ship," Captain Daniel J. Keeler, commander of the Lincoln, told CNN in a hangar deck interview in July. "We’re very well-defended," said. Iran’s shots "don’t get close." In fact, an F-35C stealth fighter from Lincoln shot down one Iranian drone near the carrier back in February.

USS GEORGE WASHINGTON CAPTAIN SAYS MORALE IS HIGH FOR NEW MIDEAST MISSION

Brilliantly as they’ve performed, it’s high time for some major upgrades to naval aviation to prepare the force to take on China’s navy. I’m not talking about chow menus or what’s in stock at the ships' stores. Here are four important moves.

Drones. Carrier air wings need their own drones. First to arrive will be the MQ-25 Stingray refueling and reconnaissance drone. With wings that spread to 75 feet unfolded, the Stingray’s job is to deliver fuel from its orbiting post 1,000 miles away from the carrier, and to stay aloft for hours. Look for smaller wingman collaborative combat aircraft drones with extra weapons and electronic spectrum warfare effects to join the air wing in the future, too. The sky’s the limit for carrier-based drones on ships with adjustable catapults. Speaking of which…

PENTAGON CONSOLIDATES DRONE OVERSIGHT AS TRUMP ADMINISTRATION PUSHES RAPID UNMANNED WARFARE EXPANSION

New catapults. President Donald Trump understands the value of carriers, yet he’s worried for years about the new catapults — where magnets instead of steam shoot planes down the deck. So a White House National Security Presidential Memorandum on Aug. 13 tasked the Navy to present options for going back to steam catapults. Big mistake. This, after USS Gerald R. Ford has proven the new electromagnetic system with over 12,200 launches just from their most recent 326-day deployment. Combat data on the new "cats" looks good. Here’s something else you need to know: the magnetic catapults recharge faster than steam. Ford ran an all-out, multi-day surge exercise earlier this year, and the air wing was able to generate 25% more sorties with the new catapults, compared to the old steam type.

"I think there’s overwhelming support in Congress and in the Pentagon for moving forward with EMALS," Senator Roger Wicker, chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said on Aug. 18. Ripping out combat-proven catapults and weapons elevators will slow shipyards and leave the U.S. Navy short of aircraft carriers to fight China. Also, there’s no going back. The aircraft carrier industrial base includes over 2,000 firms, many of them small businesses, across America. Switch the design of major systems, and you are looking at years of churn and delay.

By the way, France ordered the new system for their next aircraft carrier, and China’s already building their own electromagnetic system, which they probably stole from us.

Faster elevators. Not for the crew, they have up and down ladders. I’m talking about advanced weapons elevators. Made in Cincinnati, the new weapons elevators on Ford are rated for 24,000 lbs. instead of 12,000 lbs. for the old type, and they move 50% faster. Lower stage elevators move ordnance from the magazines in the aft and forward sections of the carrier while upper stage elevators lift the bombs and missiles up to the flight deck. All vital when the crew is rearming aircraft during combat operations. Once again, the White House is wavering, but consider that the Navy’s newest long-range weapons are big and heavy. The Malice air-to-air missile, unveiled just last month, weighs 1500 lbs. Best to stick with the advanced weapons elevators.

PENTAGON RACES TO BUY 10X MORE MISSILES AS IRAN WAR DWINDLES ARSENAL, THREATENS READINESS FOR CHINA AGGRESSION

A stealthy new fighter jet. Long in the works, the Navy’s sixth-generation F/A-XX is ready to move ahead. Boeing and Northrop Grumman both have secret demonstrator planes. The new fighter-bomber is crucial to adding more range for carrier strike operations. Besides, the clock is ticking. Production of the mainstay Navy F/A-18EF Superhornet is shutting down, and China’s already flown two sixth-generation aircraft prototypes, including one for their navy. Congress instructed the Pentagon to pick a winner and get moving, so point your finger at the Department of War for the delay.

Aircraft carriers are unique because the President does not have to gain local-nation permission to launch strikes from their decks. They are also moveable bases for massive strike power. China has three aircraft carriers today and the Pentagon expects them to have nine by 2035 versus a U.S. fleet of 11. That’s a significant challenge. The Navy has the advanced technology to keep the edge. But holding up F/A-XX, going back to steam, taking out the fast elevators: all this risks a gaping hole in U.S. military power.

US military releases footage of massive operation to rescue injured airman stranded inside Iran

The U.S. military released dramatic new video on Tuesday showing parts of one of the largest combat search-and-rescue operations in its history, including the moment elite Air Force pararescue operators reached a badly injured American airman stranded deep inside Iran.

The footage documents portions of the massive April operation to rescue the two-man crew of an F-15E Strike Eagle, call sign Dude 44, after the fighter was shot down by an Iranian shoulder-fired missile.

The pilot, known as Dude44 Alpha, and the backseat weapons systems officer, Dude44 Bravo, ejected from the aircraft and landed miles apart, leaving both stranded inside Iran.

While Dude44 Alpha was rescued after a little more than six hours, Dude44 Bravo suffered a broken back, arm and shoulder after a damaged parachute led to a hard landing. He remained stranded for nearly two days before U.S. forces reached him.

The newly released video shows U.S. military helicopters searching for Bravo as American forces worked to locate and recover him.

Despite his injuries, Bravo moved away from his landing site and began climbing toward a roughly 7,000-foot ridgeline as daylight revealed the desert valley and steep cliffs surrounding him.

The footage also shows American bombers and drones striking Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces that were in proximity to Bravo.

TRUMP RETALIATES AFTER IRAN ATTACK AS EXPERT WARNS REGIME IS GROWING MORE DANGEROUS

"There was clear intent out of the Iranian ground force to come find those two guys," Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Dan Caine told CBS News this week.

The video then shows the dramatic moment on April 5 when two elite Air Force pararescue operators, known as PJs, reached the injured Bravo on the mountain ridgeline.

Two large search-and-rescue aircraft had landed on a makeshift desert runway before smaller "Little Bird" helicopters flew toward Bravo's position on the ridgeline.

Bravo called the moment he saw his rescuers "one of the greatest moments of my life."

"Let's go," he recalled telling them.

The second rescue operation put 92 U.S. service members on the ground in Iran, marking the first time American forces had boots on the ground in the country since 1980.

Hundreds of U.S. service members also supported the operation from the air, while between 3,000 and 5,000 service members supported the rescue mission overall, according to U.S. Central Command Commander Adm. Brad Cooper.

But the operation was not over once Bravo was reached.

The landing gear of the two rescue aircraft became trapped in the desert sand, stranding Bravo and more than 90 U.S. service members inside Iran. A clandestine Air Force unit was ultimately brought in to extract the group, CBS News reported.

Bravo was finally brought to safety roughly 50 hours after Dude 44 was shot down. The rescue was completed as the sun rose on Easter Sunday.

Multiple death sentences in different states are set to be carried out within 24 hours: 'Not very common'

Multiple executions are scheduled in the U.S. in as many states within a 24-hour window this week.

Georgia and Texas had each planned to put a man to death within an hour of each other on Wednesday before a court stepped in to halt the one in Georgia for now, while Alabama is set to carry out another execution the following day. Texas remains scheduled to execute LeJames Norman on Wednesday after a Georgia judge stayed Stacey Humphreys' execution late Tuesday.

In the Peach State, 53-year-old Humphreys was set to be executed on Wednesday for his conviction in the 2003 murders of two real estate agents, 21-year-old Lori Brown and 33-year-old Cindy Williams. But a Cobb County judge stayed his execution late Tuesday, meaning the execution cannot move forward unless the stay is lifted or overturned by a higher court.

About an hour after that execution was initially set to happen, Texas scheduled to execute Norman, 40, for the triple murder of his neighbors during a robbery that turned deadly in 2005.

Then on Thursday, Alabama plans to execute Jeffery Lee, 50, for a double murder carried out during a 1998 pawn shop holdup.

"It's not very common to have this many executions just across a couple of days," Death Penalty Information Center Executive Director Robin Maher told Fox News Digital. "This month, the month of September, we have seven executions scheduled. Last year, in October, we had seven executions in a single month. But before then, we'd have to go back all the way to 2010 to see that number in a single month."

"Just earlier this year, in August, there were three executions on the same day," she continued. "This is an unusual year in that we're seeing occurrences like a number of executions scheduled on the same day or during the same month. But there's no evidence there's any coordination among the states to have all these executions occur simultaneously. This looks largely to be a coincidence."

On Aug. 13, three states — Tennessee, Oklahoma and Alabama — carried out three lethal injections on the same day, marking the first time three states executed prisoners on the same day since January 7, 2010.

Weeks earlier, on July 28, Florida carried out two executions in a single day, which was the Sunshine State's first double execution in decades.

In 2026, 25 executions have been carried out in the U.S., and 14 are scheduled for the remainder of the year, although that number could change if courts issue stays or states schedule additional executions.

Last year, 11 states carried out 47 executions, making up the most executions carried out in a single year in the U.S. since 2009.

Leading the way in executions is Florida, which set a record with 19 inmates put to death in 2025, more than 40% of the U.S. total for the year. It also carried out 15 so far in 2026, accounting for 60% of this year's total across the country.

Across 2025 and 2026 thus far, Florida accounts for about 47% of the nation’s executions, as it continues its accelerated pace amid a flurry of death warrants signed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Texas, Alabama and South Carolina followed Florida, with eight, six and five executions, respectively, in that window. Texas carried out five executions in 2025 and three so far in 2026, Alabama executed five people in 2025 and one in 2026 and South Carolina put five people to death — all in 2025.

"Last year was a very unusual year. It was the most executions we've seen in 15 years in the United States," Maher said. "This year, we do not expect to reach that number of executions again. There are a number of other warrants that are still open for this year, but I don't think we'll reach the high that we reached last year."

"All of this is really due to Florida," she added. "Gov. DeSantis has decided that he wants to set a record in the number of executions that are conducted during his term. He has scheduled an execution for roughly every two weeks in the state of Florida, both last year and this year."

Two executions remain scheduled in Florida for the rest of 2026. Curtis Beasley, 77, is set to be executed Sept. 29 for the 1995 murder of a woman who was bludgeoned with a hammer, while William Lee Thompson, 74, is scheduled for execution Oct. 13 for the 1976 murder of a woman who was beaten, tortured and killed with a chain-link belt.

3 dead, 1 hospitalized after news helicopter crashes in Los Angeles commercial area

Three people are dead, and one person is hospitalized after a news helicopter crashed Tuesday night in Los Angeles, authorities said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said more than 70 firefighters responded just before 7 p.m. to the crash between two commercial buildings at 9151 N. Mason Ave. in Chatsworth.

NBC Los Angeles confirmed that the helicopter involved was its NewsChopper4. The aircraft was providing aerial coverage of a deadly crash involving a bus and an SUV in the Chatsworth area of Los Angeles when it went down.

Three people were pronounced dead at the scene of the helicopter crash and a fourth was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition, according to the department.

One of the victims was a pedestrian in the parking lot, according to LAFD Capt. Branden Silverman. The other two victims were aboard the helicopter and have since been identified as Angel City Air employees Eliana Moreno and George Marciniw, according to NBC4.

Moreno was an aerial photojournalist for NBC4 and its Spanish-language sister station, Telemundo 52. She joined Angel City Air’s helicopter team in 2010 after graduating from Chapman University with a degree in broadcast journalism and political science, according to the station.

Marciniw, the helicopter's pilot, grew up in Southern California and graduated from Burbank High School, according to NBC4.

The crash sparked a fire that damaged four vehicles and two storage containers before firefighters extinguished the flames, according to LAFD. No nearby structures were exposed to the fire.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration said they will be investigating the cause of the helicopter crash and would be sending one of its investigators on Wednesday.

Local outlets reported that several TV news helicopters were in the area covering a Metro bus crash that left at least two people dead and multiple others hospitalized.

Colleen Williams, an anchor for NBC4, confirmed on air that the station's NewsChopper4 had crashed.

"We are going to take a couple of minutes to think about that, process it," Williams said, before the station's coverage cut away.

NBC4 and Telemundo 52 issued a joint statement following the deadly helicopter crash.

"We are deeply saddened to share that a helicopter providing aerial news coverage for NBC4 and Telemundo 52 was involved in a fatal accident in Los Angeles on Tuesday evening. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of those who lost their lives."

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass mourned the victims of both crashes.

"I’m absolutely devastated by the loss of life in Chatsworth tonight," Bass said in a statement. "My heart is with the families and loved ones of those we lost in the tragic bus collision and helicopter crash."

California Gov. Gavin Newsom also responded to the deadly crashes.

"Our hearts are with the victims and families of tonight’s devastating Metro bus and helicopter crashes in Chatsworth, and with the entire NBC4 family," Newsom said. "Thank you to the first responders working tirelessly tonight."

Texas Senate candidate Talarico said US was 'backsliding' on democracy in resurfaced clip

Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico said in a resurfaced 2024 interview that the United States was "backsliding" on democracy and suggested Americans should look to countries in Western Europe for "inspiration."

Talarico made the remarks during a June 2, 2024, appearance on "The Weekend Show" with Anthony Davis on the MeidasTouch Network, well before becoming the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Texas.

"We haven't lived up to the promise of democracy," Talarico said. "And of course, some countries are farther along than others, and sadly, here in America, where that experiment started, we are backsliding."

"And that troubles me greatly," he continued. "But all of us still have so much more work to do to create a true democracy."

Talarico added that Americans should look to other countries, "especially in Western Europe," for inspiration about "how to continue with this experiment and ultimately reach that goal of a true democracy, of a beloved community."

The clip drew fresh attention on social media this week, including from Elon Musk, who responded with a single word: "No."

Asked about the resurfaced remarks, Talarico's campaign defended the candidate's comments.

"James agrees with the majority of Texans that America is the greatest country in the world, Texas is the greatest state in the union, and we should always fight for a more perfect union," JT Ennis, a spokesperson for the Talarico campaign, told Fox News Digital.

Talarico, a former middle school teacher and Presbyterian seminarian, entered the national spotlight earlier this year after defeating Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, for the Democratic Party's U.S. Senate nomination. He is facing Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the general election.

Talarico's campaign previously responded to criticism of the Christianity remark by saying he is a devout Christian who is criticizing what he views as the misuse of Christianity to justify hate, violence and greed.

In July, the conservative political action committee Lone Star Liberty criticized Talarico as an "America-laster" after the Democratic Senate nominee called the American flag a "complicated symbol." Talarico's campaign responded at the time that he believes the flag represents "freedom, opportunity and hope."

7 Republicans rebel against Trump, vote with Dems to rein in Iran war powers

A handful of House Republicans rebuked President Donald Trump's operation in Iran on Tuesday, joining Democrats to pass a resolution aimed at reining in the commander in chief's war powers.

Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., introduced the war powers resolution that was backed by 14 of his fellow House Democrats, including Reps. Jason Crow, D-Colo, and Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash. But it was Republicans who helped put the legislation over the edge.

Seven House Republicans joined all 213 voting Democrats to pass the measure in a 220 to 204 vote late on Tuesday night. Opponents of the bill were 203 House Republicans and Rep. Kevin Kiley, I-Calif., who caucuses with the GOP.

"I've been consistent on that since the war powers provision expired after 60 days of engagement," Rep. Tom Barrett, R-Mich., told Fox News Digital on Tuesday morning ahead of the vote.

Barrett was among the group who voted to rein in Trump's war powers, along with Reps. Warren Davidson, R-Ohio, Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., Nancy Mace, R-S.C., Thomas Massie, R-Ky., Marianette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, and Zach Nunn, R-Iowa.

Republicans who voted to withdraw U.S. forces from Iran have long argued that it's on Congress to declare war, not the White House. The War Powers Resolution of 1973 generally allows a president to engage U.S. forces in hostilities for up to 60 days without congressional authorization, with an additional 30-day withdrawal period under certain circumstances. Supporters of the resolution argue that the period has already expired.

The Trump administration has argued the president is acting within his constitutional authority as commander in chief and has defended the continued military operation against Iran, saying the resolution would improperly restrict the president's ability to protect U.S. forces and national security interests.

The war in Iran has become a political lightning rod in the current midterm election season, dividing Republicans and providing political fodder for Democrats who have accused Trump of getting into another "forever war."

The conflict has also been blamed by some lawmakers and analysts for higher prices at the gas pump, which is expected to be a top issue for voters.

It also pushed Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., a well-known critic of Trump's foreign entanglements, to try to force a vote on impeaching Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.

But the vast majority of Republicans still stand by the president and insist he is well within his authority.

"The president has done a good job managing all this," Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind., told Fox News Digital. "We need to stand with the president right now and with the Iranian people. And the president's done what he promised the American people, that he wasn't going to let them have a nuclear weapon."

The Senate passed a similar resolution in June of this year, also with several Republicans defecting against Trump.

But even if an identical bill passes both chambers, Trump has indicated he opposes such legislation, meaning it would likely face a presidential veto if it gets to his desk.

"For him to cause all the trouble that he's caused for this organization and to walk away with nothing more than having to surrender $700,000 worth of restitution is a crime," Smith said on First Take. "Kawhi Leonard … he's a gangster."

The NBA dropped the hammer on the Clippers with the most brutal penalty in league history: a $30 million fine, five lost first-round picks, and a one-year suspension for owner Steve Ballmer.

Yet Leonard got off with a lousy $700,000 fine, zero suspension, and a ticket straight back to Toronto.

Smith spelled out how Leonard let management take the bullet while he skated away untouched.

"He broke the rules, got caught, pointed the finger at somebody else, threw the organization under the bus, got his money and left the country," Smith said. "I mean, [expletive], how much better can it get than that?"

Despite federal and SEC probes into the illicit side deals, the NBA let Leonard walk with a $700,000 restitution fee. In the end, it was a minor handling charge for a guy clearing nearly $50 million annually. He even waived a $7.45 million trade kicker to guarantee his exit back to Canada.

After the Emmy Awards on Monday night, Field took a moment to remember her loving friendship with the late country music icon and trips they used to take to their local Walmart.

"She was a friend. I admired her. I loved working with her. I never stopped loving her. There were moments where we tried to reach each other, but you know, this is a weird world I live in, this acting world where you do films, and you're so bonded with this group of people, it's like being in battle together," Field told Fox News Digital.

"It's like being in battle of the bulge together, and you save each other's lives, and you've got each other's backs, and you spend 24/7 with each other, and we would go shopping together, all of us, and go to Walmart together," she continued. "Can you imagine all of us coming into Walmart? And it never leaves your soul."

Field explained that she lived far away from Parton, so getting together was a struggle for the two.

"Dolly and I live so far apart we can never make it ends meet, we could never find a way, but I never stopped feeling that way about her and the times we did reach out I think she felt that way about me. I loved her," Field concluded.

Fourth Florida resident dies after contracting flesh-eating bacteria linked to oysters

A fourth person in Florida has died after contracting flesh-eating bacteria commonly linked to consuming raw or undercooked oysters, health officials said.

The death was included Thursday in the Florida Department of Health's updated fatality count for the deadly flesh-eating bacterium Vibrio vulnificus.

The individual was from Broward County and between the ages of 75 and 79, WSFA reported. It remains unclear exactly how the person contracted the infection.

Previous deaths were attributed to residents of Bay, Palm Beach and Marion counties, according to the state’s health department.

"Most people get vibriosis by eating raw or undercooked shellfish, particularly oysters," the Florida Department of Health said.

According to the department's website, Florida has reported 21 cases of Vibrio vulnificus in 2026.

In the last 10 years, 2022 and 2024 reported some of the highest numbers of cases and deaths in the region. Florida recorded 19 deaths and 82 cases in 2024, while 2022 saw 17 deaths and 74 cases.

Officials said the unusual increase stemmed from certain counties experiencing impacts from hurricanes Helene and Ian. Severe weather events that cause standing or floodwaters pose a risk of exposure to the bacteria, officials said.

Vibrio vulnificus is a naturally occurring bacterium found in warm, brackish seawater.

Exposure can occur when a person eats oysters contaminated with the bacteria or enters contaminated water with an open wound.

Health officials said bloodstream infections caused by Vibrio vulnificus are fatal about 50% of the time.

While healthy individuals typically develop a mild illness, Vibrio vulnificus infections can cause severe illness in people with weakened immune systems.

"A recent study showed that people with these pre-existing medical conditions were 80 times more likely to develop Vibrio vulnificus bloodstream infections than healthy people," Florida health officials said.

Severe infections can cause symptoms including fever, chills, decreased blood pressure, also known as septic shock, and blistering skin lesions. In some cases, wound infections can lead to tissue damage requiring amputation.

Elsewhere along the Gulf Coast, Louisiana has reported 15 cases and six deaths this year as of Sept. 9, according to the Louisiana Department of Health. Fourteen of the cases were attributed to wound or seawater exposure.

The Texas Department of State Health Services says Texas typically sees an average of 33 cases per year.

Mississippi reported three cases as of August, according to the state’s health department.

Sophie Cunningham says she's talked with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver amid search for WNBA's next commissioner

As the WNBA searches for its next commissioner, Sophie Cunningham said she has spoken several times with current NBA commissioner Adam Silver, who is in charge of the search for the league's next leader.

"I have talked to Adam Silver a couple times, and I think he’s a great guy who’s very knowledgeable and full of wisdom," Cunningham told reporters this week. "Just getting to talk to him and hear his perspective of his approach to the NBA is huge."

Although Cunningham did not speculate about potential candidates for the position, she expressed confidence that the eventual choice will be someone determined to build on the WNBA’s momentum.

"I think there’s all types of walks in this organization or in this league, which I think is absolutely awesome, but I do think with that, you need someone who’s going to unite everybody because it can be so different."

"My second thing is I really do think that you need a commissioner that is players first, who wants a relationship with the players," Cunningham said. "I think that’s so important."

Cunningham’s comments come as the WNBA prepares for its first leadership change in seven years. Cathy Engelbert, who became the league’s first commissioner in 2019, announced that she will retire at the end of 2026 after more than four decades in business. Her tenure coincided with unprecedented growth in attendance, television audiences, sponsorship revenue and franchise valuations.

Delaware Republicans nominated political scientist Joseph "Dr. Joe" Arminio for the state's lone U.S. House seat Tuesday, bypassing both the state GOP's endorsed candidate and its 2024 nominee to send Arminio into a November match-up against Rep. Sarah McBride, D-Del.

Arminio defeated Rev. Earl Cooper, the Delaware Republican Party's endorsed candidate, and John Whalen, the party's 2024 nominee, for the seat and a chance to defeat McBride in the Nov. 3 general election.

McBride won Delaware's at-large House seat in 2024, becoming the first openly transgender person elected to Congress after defeating Whalen by roughly 16 percentage points in the general election.

McBride is seeking a second term in a seat Republicans have not won since 2008.

He earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Johns Hopkins University and has taught at American University and Lincoln University.

Tuesday's race was not Arminio's first congressional campaign, though it was his first in Delaware. He previously sought the Republican nomination in Maryland's 1st Congressional District in 2008, receiving about 1.6% of the vote in a four-way primary won by Andy Harris, according to WHYY.

Arminio campaigned on economic issues, arguing that excessive public and private debt has squeezed American families. He identified inflation and the cost of groceries, gasoline and housing among the biggest economic challenges facing Delaware.

"The Republican country for that matter is in dire peril," he told WHYY in an interview. "The economy’s in very bad shape. We’re suffering from crushing private and public debt. So your typical family is having a hard time making ends meet. The young cannot afford to buy a home. They’re having difficulty in their relationships, getting married. It’s very, very serious."

Arminio will now try to break Democrats' long-running hold on Delaware's lone House seat, which the party has controlled since John Carney took over after former U.S. Rep. Mike Castle, R-Del, retired and left office when he did not seek reelection in 2010, instead deciding to run for the U.S. Senate.
