El-Sayed disavows Hasan Piker's 9/11 comments but decries 'cancel culture'

Democratic Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed said far-left streamer Hasan Piker's 9/11 remarks were "dumb" on Sunday, but said the country was "so stuck" in cancel culture when confronted about his association with the internet personality.

NBC's Kristen Welker asked El-Sayed on "Meet the Press" if he would welcome Piker on the campaign trail, as he's already campaigned with him prior to winning the state's Senate primary over moderate Haley Stevens. Piker also attended El-Sayed's victory party and called for Democrats who oppose the Michigan Senate candidate to be "punished."

El-Sayed dodged and said he was more concerned about who he was campaigning for and beating Republican candidate Mike Rogers.

"When asked about Hasan Piker's comments on 9/11, Sen. Bernie Sanders called it a dumb statement. Do you agree? Do you disavow those comments that America deserved 9/11?" Welker pressed further.

"Of course it was a dumb statement and, of course, I think Hasan himself would say that was a dumb statement," El-Sayed told Welker. "He disavowed it. So yes, America didn’t deserve 9/11, but you know, to sit here and play gotcha politics with a dumb thing somebody said out of context that they disavowed themselves — to say, ‘Ah well, what does that mean about what you think?’"

"I want to be held accountable for what I say and what I do, rather than this idea that we’re so stuck in cancel culture that all of us agreed was a bad idea back in 2020, but we seem to want to bring back," he added.

Sanders called the comments "dumb" earlier this month in an interview on CNN, but said the Democratic Party should be inclusive of the far-left streamer.

The progressive Vermont senator also cited cancel culture.

"I think that's a dumb statement," Sanders said at the time. "On the other hand, he has a whole lot of followers and a lot of things that he's saying that are making sense to a lot of people. I think, you know, we have to get above cancel culture. You know, when you're doing radio, whatever they do, podcasts three hours a day, you say dumb things."

Psychotherapist and author of "Therapy Nation," Jonathan Alpert, told Fox News Digital that citing cancel culture seemed like a "dodge."

"El-Sayed clearly knows Hasan Piker’s 9/11 comments were a problem," Alpert said. "He called them dumb. Fair enough. But then he turns around and complains about cancel culture when people scrutinize the relationship. You can’t have it both ways. If the comments are bad enough that you feel the need to distance yourself from them, people are allowed to ask why the association was there in the first place."

"We’ve started calling almost any uncomfortable criticism ‘cancel culture,’" he added. "Sometimes criticism is unfair and sometimes people do get punished simply for holding an unpopular opinion. But getting tough questions about your judgment isn't the same thing."

He also called El-Sayed's response a "psychological move," and said instead of discussing the criticism, he attacked the criticism and suggested it was unfair.

Fauci discussed COVID mRNA vaccine concerns for pregnant women in text chain released by Senate committee

Dr. Anthony Fauci privately discussed concerns about COVID-19 mRNA vaccines for pregnant women in January 2021, including questions about fever after a second dose and a theoretical risk of miscarriage during the first trimester, according to newly released text messages obtained from his government-issued cell phone.

The exchange involved Fauci, then-Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky and Dr. Vivek Murthy, who would later become former President Joe Biden's surgeon general.

Fauci said, because many people experience significant cytokine-related symptoms and fever after a second dose, that reaction "theoretically could be associated with miscarriage in the 1st trimester," according to the messages shown on page two of documents released Monday by Sens. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., and Rand Paul, R-Ky.

"The text chain released today could have an immediate impact [on] public health and the principle of informed consent," Johnson's press release read.

The release questioned why only three contacts were listed by name, while all other text messages are identified only with phone numbers, among the 34,000 text messages and 522 voicemails.

"It is too early to determine whether any data has been deleted," the release added.

"To protect the privacy of individuals with whom Dr. Fauci communicated, as well as personal messages unrelated to the public health issues he was involved in, it will take time to carefully review the large volume of information the senators received.

"Chairman Johnson, Chairman Paul, and their staffs will work diligently and cooperatively to release relevant information to the public as soon as possible."

Murthy initially asked whether there was any reason to favor vaccination earlier or later in pregnancy and whether officials had seen evidence of adverse outcomes among pregnant women who had already been vaccinated.

Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the time, responded that there were "no data or theoretical reason" to believe vaccination earlier in pregnancy should be preferred over later vaccination. He also said concerns that an mRNA vaccine could alter a person’s genes were a misconception.

Later that evening, however, Fauci mentioned the evidence of issues with the second shot for pregnant women.

Walensky replied that it was "definitely a good point, esp after dose two." Murthy then wrote that he had been hearing concerns about mRNA causing mutations in a developing fetus and said Fauci’s point about a cytokine response after the second dose was "a really good point."

The following day, after Murthy flagged a World Health Organization recommendation at the time advising against use of Moderna’s vaccine in pregnant women because of limited data, Fauci emphasized that officials had to weigh the potential risks of vaccination against the risks posed by COVID-19 itself.

He wrote that more than 10,000 pregnant women had already been vaccinated with "no issues" reported, that Food and Drug Administration, Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists guidance allowed pregnant women to choose vaccination, and that animal toxicology studies had not raised red flags.

Murthy responded that the WHO recommendation surprised him and warned that a strong recommendation against vaccination based on a lack of data could be "potentially quite damaging to public confidence among pregnant women." Walensky agreed and said she would flag the issue for an upcoming ACIP meeting.

Former Arizona Cardinals GM accused of multiple schemes, including one that cost DeAndre Hopkins $13 million

Former NFL general manager and league executive of the year Steve Keim is being implicated in multiple defamatory schemes, but he has yet to respond to those except to friends and business associates he's communicated with.

Keim, the former Arizona Cardinals general manager, is being accused by former Cardinals player DeAndre Hopkins of somehow setting him up for a failed NFL test that returned positive results for performance-enhancing drugs.

That test eventually led to the Keim and the Cardinals releasing Hopkins in 2023.

"I got set up when I played for his team and lost 13 million," Hopkins wrote in a reply to an Instagram post over the weekend. "Skeme Slime was my GM, contaminated drug test, go figure how that happened."

CARDINALS CUT DEANDRE HOPKINS BUT OTHER TEAMS ARE INTERESTED

Hopkins was suspended for the first six games of the 2022 season after violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances. An independent expert concluded the banned substance likely came from a "contaminated" supplement, but the NFL upheld the suspension because players are strictly liable for prohibited substances found in their systems.

The suspension had significant financial consequences beyond the six-game NFL penalty. Because his contract contained maximum forfeiture language, the suspension cost Hopkins approximately $13 million in guaranteed money.

The suspension also voided Hopkins' no-trade clause, giving Keim greater flexibility in eventually moving on from the five-time Pro Bowl receiver.

Keim, could not be reached for comment, but has been apparently upset to learn his former player leveled accusations against him for that long-ago incident and apparently answered Hopkins on Instagram.

But both the Hopkins comment and the Keim reply have since been deleted.

Keim was on a flight and unavailable Monday afternoon but he has told multiple NFL people he has no connection to the Hopkins issue.

"It would make no sense to do that to my player," Keim told one source who relayed it to Fox News Digital.

It doesn't end there for Keim, who has other fires to address.

Barron’s reported in mid-July that Keim tied himself to Mohamed Coulibaly, who allegedly authored a scam to cheat NFL players out of hundreds of thousands of dollars by persuading them to invest in fake Shopify stores.

The report went largely unnoticed until Keim's name surfaced publicly in the Hopkins allegations.

Barron's reported that Keim participated in investor calls involving the alleged e-commerce scheme and was even on the so-called pitch deck shared with potential clients for Motion Ventures.

The deck identifies Keim as the chief operation/growth officer for Motion Ventures.

Multiple NFL players have privately told Fox News Digital that they are routinely approached by companies pitching investment opportunities but they typically view these with skepticism.

The problem with the Motion Ventures pitch is apparently that Steve Keim's name being included gave players comfort that a known NFL executive was involved, suggesting the company could be trusted.

No player who spoke with Fox News Digital with the understanding their name not be used alleged they had spoken to Keim directly.

Keim spent time after he left the Cardinals as the general manager of the Klutch Sports talent representation agency football division.

That job banked on Keim using his name recognition and NFL reputation to give the agency's new football division gravitas.

Fox News Digital contacted Klutch Sports for comment but a source said Keim is no longer employed at the agency.

Keim in 2018 pleaded guilty to extreme DUI when he delivered a .93 result in a sobriety test. He was suspended five games and fined $200,000 by the Cardinals with the fine going to Arizona chapters of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

After taking an indefinite health-related leave of absence in December of 2022, the Cardinals announced on Jan. 9, 2023, that Keim was stepping down as general manager and that the two sides had mutually agreed to part ways. The announcement came one day after the Cardinals finished a disappointing 4-13 season.

Keim is still welcome in NFL circles. Since the start of training camps around the league, he has being traveling to various practice sites and been talking to general managers and other members of team front offices and coaching staffs.

Trump bets economic pressure can squeeze Iran as regime’s own failures deepen the pain

President Donald Trump is signaling, at least for now, he is prepared to let mounting economic pressure on Iran do more of the work rather than immediately expand military action against Tehran.

"We are only semi-negotiating with them. We are just watching Iran with its huge inflation and the fact they have no money," Trump told Axios’ Barak Ravid in a phone interview Sunday. Axios reported Aug. 9 that Trump described the U.S. approach as "low-keying it" and said Iran was in severe economic distress and struggling to pay its troops.

Trump has argued that the U.S. naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz has compounded Iran’s financial crisis. His comments come after weeks in which the administration repeatedly raised the possibility of renewed large-scale military action.

But as the administration increasingly points to Iran’s financial distress as leverage, a more complicated question is emerging: How much of Iran’s economic crisis is the result of U.S. sanctions, the war and blockade — and how much stems from decades of corruption, economic mismanagement and spending decisions by the Islamic Republic itself?

Trump reinforced the message on Truth Social Sunday, writing that Iran had shown "51 years of bad behaviour" while sharing a graphic depicting the Iranian rial’s steep decline. The graphic was titled "Iran has NO MONEY" and described the currency as "trash."

The economic pressure is increasingly visible in the daily lives of ordinary Iranians. An investigation published by the Iranian newspaper Jahan-e Sanat last week described supermarket workers encountering customers who allegedly shoplifted basic groceries including bread, cheese and meat, or ate packaged food inside stores because they could no longer afford it. The accounts offered a stark glimpse of the strain on Iranian households as prices rise and purchasing power erodes.

Washington, meanwhile, has intensified its campaign against Tehran’s revenue streams. Under what the Treasury Department calls Economic Fury, the administration has targeted Iran’s oil trade, shadow banking networks, weapons procurement operations, cryptocurrency holdings and sanctions-evasion infrastructure. Treasury said June 10 that the campaign had prevented "tens of billions of dollars" in revenue from being accessible to the Iranian regime and its proxies. On July 29, Treasury said OFAC had sanctioned more than 100 vessels linked to Iran’s shadow fleet since the beginning of 2026.

A Treasury spokesperson told Fox News Digital on background that "Economic Fury has left the regime desperate for cash."

"Iran’s economy is in freefall, inflation has skyrocketed, and as President Trump said on Sunday, the regime’s ability to pay its troops has been decimated," the spokesperson said.

A U.S. official told Fox News Digital on background that the administration still views economic pressure as one part of a broader strategy.

"President Trump has always been clear that he will never allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon. While he has been consistent in saying he prefers a diplomatic solution, he continues to retain all options if Iran continues to engage in terrorism and refuses to make a deal," the official said.

"The United States is strangling what’s left of Iran’s economy with one of the most successful naval blockades in history – and Iran would be wise to make a deal. Otherwise, they know what will happen."

Miad Maleki, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and former Treasury Department sanctions official, said the pressure has accelerated Iran’s economic decline, but argued that Tehran’s own policies created many of the underlying vulnerabilities.

"Sanctions and the war have accelerated Iran's economic decline, but both are consequences of the regime's own troublemaking; its nuclear brinkmanship, missile and drone attacks on tankers, and support for terror proxies, not causes imposed on an innocent bystander," Maleki told Fox News Digital.

"It's a government's basic responsibility to provide for and serve its nation — this regime has instead served a failed revolutionary ideology that has produced nothing but suffering for ordinary Iranians," he added.

Maleki said the deeper story can be seen over decades, arguing that even when sanctions eased and oil revenues increased, Iran continued directing significant resources toward its security establishment and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

IRAN’S REVOLUTIONARY GUARD SIDELINES PRESIDENT AS MILITARY GRIP EXPANDS

According to Central Bank of Iran national accounts data provided by Maleki to Fox News Digital, Iran’s military share of total government spending rose from 16% in 1993 to 52% by 2006, while education spending fell from 27% to 15%. Spending on health and social affairs also declined as a share of government expenditures, he said.

Maleki pointed to the 2020 budget as another example of the disparity. The IRGC received approximately $6.96 billion, compared with $2.73 billion for Iran’s larger conventional military, known as the Artesh — roughly 2.5 times as much, according to an analysis published by the United States Institute of Peace’s Iran Primer based on figures from Iran’s parliamentary research center.

"The issue is not simply that Iran spends heavily on defense," Maleki said. "It is that an oil-dependent economy repeatedly directed enormous resources toward the military and the IRGC while basic public services and ordinary households were under increasing pressure."

And the official budget captures only part of that spending. Maleki, citing both his experience at the Treasury Department and outside research, said the IRGC benefits from significant commercial and off-budget resources. A 2017 American Enterprise Institute study estimated that the IRGC’s so-called "gray budget" could add another 50% to 100% to its military outlays.

"Ultimately, the responsibility lies not with external pressure but with structural corruption, chronic economic mismanagement, and spending priorities fundamentally detached from ordinary Iranians' needs and the country's genuine economic potential," Maleki said.

That influence extends far beyond military spending. The IRGC has also built a sprawling economic apparatus that gives it control over major sources of revenue and, critics argue, leaves it particularly well positioned to profit from the opaque channels sanctions create.

Its economic arm, Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters, became a major force in the Iranian economy after the Iran-Iraq War and expanded across construction, energy and infrastructure. The Treasury Department designated Khatam al-Anbiya in October 2007, describing it as an IRGC engineering arm used to generate income and fund the organization’s operations.

Treasury acknowledged that Iran is increasingly turning to opaque financial channels to circumvent U.S. pressure, but argued that those networks are themselves becoming targets of the campaign.

"The regime is increasingly having to invent new ways to try to evade U.S. sanctions through shadow banking networks, including through exploiting crypto," the Treasury spokesperson said. "Treasury continues to monitor and aggressively dismantle these networks to ensure Iran cannot sustain its campaign of terror and regional destabilization."

On Aug. 7, Treasury announced separate actions against cryptocurrency exchanges it said were being used to finance the IRGC and against international currency networks that it said were moving hundreds of millions of dollars for Iran.

Morad Tahbaz, an Iranian-American conservationist who spent nearly six years imprisoned in Iran’s Evin Prison before being released with four other Americans in September 2023, said sanctions have effectively created what he described as a lucrative "franchise" for those controlling the channels through which money and goods move.

"They have created a huge franchise for themselves because of these sanctions," Tahbaz told Fox News Digital. "Money can't flow freely to the Iranian government's treasury because of the sanctions. So what happens, everything is like a black market, gray market, illegal smuggling from the oil to everything else coming in and out."

"And of course, the people who are hurt most by all of this are the people of Iran," he added. "They're unfortunately, very unfortunately, taking the brunt of all of these in their daily lives."

Tahbaz said the entrenchment of the IRGC-linked economy may itself complicate efforts to end the confrontation because those profiting from restricted financial channels have an incentive to preserve them.

"They don't want to see the sanctions go away, because they will lose their franchise, if you will," he said. "They will lose their power, their control over the money and everything that goes along with it."

Tahbaz said the economic interests created by the sanctions also help explain some of the internal tensions within Iran.

"This is the battle going on inside Iran when you hear there is tension within factions," he said. "And I think to see a solution to this war, if you will, we have to look to what's happening in Iran," he said.

Treasury said it maintains standing authorizations intended to limit sanctions’ effects on ordinary Iranians, including certain humanitarian trade involving agricultural products, medicine and medical devices; noncommercial personal remittances; and communications-related software, hardware and services. OFAC also considers additional requests on a case-by-case basis, the spokesperson said. The authorizations are contained in OFAC regulations and General License 8A.

In the midst of the MLB season, when off days are few and far between, players simply have to take what the schedule gives them when it comes to getting out on the golf course. For the Los Angeles Angels, one of those days happened to be August 3, MLB trade deadline day, and with the team on the East Coast, it was as good an opportunity as any to get out to Mike Trout's private club, Trout National.

With the Angels owning a record of 43-69 at the deadline and the front office going full-on sell mode, what was meant to be a stress-free day on the links turned into a complete and total mess.

The Tiger Woods-designed Trout National is a private club with a budget of $100 million located in the 12-time All-Star's hometown of Vineland, New Jersey. The club is the definition of private, with only a select number of golfers stepping foot on the property; therefore, it's fair to assume the dozen teammates Trout welcomed to play were looking forward to the experience.

"I think that the public is taking tenderness and translating it into weakness, and that says more about the audience than it does about Justin," Maroño contends. A harrowing video showed the collapse of a building after a powerful 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia on Monday, bringing down buildings across several cities, killing at least 73 as the death toll rapidly rose and others were left trapped in the rubble.

The video shows the building crumbling during the earthquake with onlookers screaming in horror before it ultimately gives way.

Colombia's geological service pegged the magnitude at 7.4 and said the quake struck at a depth of 96 km (60 miles). The U.S. tsunami warning system said there was no tsunami threat.

"The Trump Administration is closely monitoring the large earthquake that struck Colombia and stands ready to support the people of Colombia and President @ABDELAESPRIELLA’s Administration," Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote on X.

The highest reported death toll was in Pereira, a city in Colombia's coffee-growing region, where Mayor Mauricio Salazar said 18 people had died. In nearby Manizales, Mayor Jorge Eduardo Rojas said three people were killed.

One person died in Buenaventura, Colombia's main Pacific port, when a building collapsed, trapping several people, Mayor Ligia del Carmen Cordoba said.

People remained trapped in Cali, one of Colombia's largest cities, after more than two dozen structures collapsed, Mayor Alejandro Eder said. He added that the city had asked authorities in Bogota and Medellin to send disaster teams to support rescue efforts.

"At this point, two people have already been rescued alive, one elderly woman and one young girl. There are more people trapped," Eder told Blu Radio. "We have at least 12 critical points and 25 collapsed structures that we are responding to."

The quake's epicenter was near San Jose del Palmar, in Choco, a sparsely populated province on Colombia's Pacific coast. Choco Governor Nubia Carolina Cordoba-Curi said there were injuries and significant damage in Quibdo, the provincial capital, and warned residents about aftershocks.

Colombia's civil aviation authority said flights were suspended at airports in Pereira, Manizales, Quibdo, Armenia, Cartago and Buenaventura while inspectors checked for structural damage.

The country's disaster agency said the quake, which occurred at 7:34 local time (8:34 ET), was felt in nine departments and all 32 departmental capitals, triggering evacuations and reports of damage.

Reuters witnesses in the Venezuelan border state of Tachira and the central-western city of Barquisimeto reported the quake had been felt there. Venezuela was hit by devastating twin earthquakes in June, which killed more than 6,000 people, mostly on the coast near the capital, Caracas.

Trump wins permission to file amended complaint in $10B defamation lawsuit against BBC

President Donald Trump notched a legal victory on Monday when a district judge granted his Leave to File First Amended Complaint in Trump v. British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), allowing the president’s legal team to amend his complaint against the global broadcaster.

Trump filed a lawsuit against the BBC in December in a personal capacity for both defamation and for a violation of Florida’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act for $5 billion apiece, seeking $10 billion total. Trump was seeking permission to modify his original lawsuit, but the BBC insisted he missed the deadline and was playing tactical legal games to avoid financial disclosures.

United States District Judge Roy K. Altman sided with Trump, granting him permission to file an amended complaint and wiping out the BBC's previous motion to dismiss as "moot."

The BBC has faced scrutiny over the 2024 "Panorama" documentary about Trump’s speech on Jan. 6, as the documentary — titled "Trump: A Second Chance?" — stitched together remarks Trump made nearly an hour apart during his address that made it appear as if he had told his supporters to "fight like hell" at the Capitol, shortly before the riot there that day.

The issue surrounding the documentary’s editing integrity comes after a report from The Telegraph revealed excerpts from a whistleblower dossier compiled by Michael Prescott, a communications advisor hired by the BBC to review its editorial standards.

"We're going to walk down to the Capitol. And I'll be there with you. And we fight — we fight like hell," the documentary showed Trump saying, without noting that the statement had been edited.

In reality, Trump said, "We're going to walk down to the Capitol. And we're going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women, and we're probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them, because you'll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength, and you have to be strong."

Trump must file the new version of the complaint by Monday. He is expected to focus on personal reputational harm and is still seeking $10 billion in damages. The BBC will have the opportunity to file a new motion to dismiss targeting the revised allegations.

Florida woman loses arm in Silver River alligator attack as boater races to save her life

A Florida woman lost her arm in a terrifying alligator attack Saturday, but a quick-thinking boater who happened to be nearby may have saved her life.

The woman was among a group of swimmers on the Silver River near Ocala when she spotted an alligator approaching and tried to fend it off with a paddle. Instead, the gator grabbed her right arm and dragged her underwater.

Nearby, John Gamache was eating lunch on his boat with his father when he heard the commotion.

"I looked just upriver from us a couple hundred feet and saw an alligator head way above the water and going full speed towards the swimmers," Gamache told FOX 35 Orlando.

Gamache immediately raced his boat toward the group, and the approaching vessel apparently scared the alligator away.

What he found when he reached the woman was gruesome.

"It was a terrible injury, bones poking out, blood everywhere. Obviously, the minutes mattered," he said.

With the woman losing blood, Gamache used rope from his boat to tie off her injured arm while his father helped get the other swimmers, including children, out of the water and onto the boat.

The pair then rushed the group back toward a nearby boat launch, where first responders were waiting.

The woman's family told FOX 35 on Sunday that she survived the attack, had been released from the hospital and was recovering at home. She lost her right arm.

Gamache, who said he has visited the Silver Springs area for decades without ever witnessing an alligator attack, later spoke with the woman's family.

"They called earlier, and we talked for a while, and it was heartwarming to hear them explain their emotions," he said. "We're glad that it happened as good as it could have. Like the result is just the sustained injury and nothing more."

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation officers later located and removed the 9-foot-8-inch gator. Officials reopened the area on Sunday.

The attack comes just about a month after another Florida woman lost an arm in an alligator attack that proved fatal.

Brittany Clark, 31, was hiking with her boyfriend and best friend at Little Big Eco State Forest near Orlando in early July when the group entered the Econlockhatchee River to cool off.

They were kneeling in roughly three feet of water when an alligator attacked Clark and bit both of her arms, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Clark's boyfriend, Chance Allison, fought to free her from the animal while calling 911, but one of her arms was severed and the other was nearly torn off. Clark died before rescuers could get her to a hospital.

Allison later remembered Clark as "the strongest and most outgoing person" he had ever known and said she loved spending time on the water.

A golfer in Ohio considers himself to be "very lucky and blessed" after he and his buddies got caught in a storm on a golf course last week. While recording their attempt to get an apparently stuck golf cart moving, he was struck by lightning.

The video he took of his own lightning strike starts off with him laughing at three of his presumed buddies. They're getting poured on trying to get a golf cart moving up a small grassy incline.

Their attempts aren't working at all. The golf cart actually rolls backwards at one point before lightning steps in and completely changes the video.

The guy taking the video is making a couple of mistakes here that you don't want to repeat. Aside from not getting off the course before the storm moved in, and not helping out with the golf cart at all, he's standing under a tree holding an umbrella.

As you can see in the video, that's not an ideal place to be. There's a loud bang and the video ends after a flash of light.

According to meteorologist Matt Devitt, the golfer was struck on the arm by the lightning. He wasn't severely injured and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

The golfer was struck on Friday on a golf course in Cincinnati, Ohio. He told Devitt that he was "unbelievably lucky" and the meteorologist had some advice to pass along to the rest of us.

He wrote, "Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!"

That's right. Turn this near tragedy into an opportunity to learn something. Head indoors when you hear thunder. Don't duck under a tree while holding an umbrella. Help out when a golf cart is stuck.

And this is right up there with all the rest; you don’t gain any extraordinary gifts from being struck by lightning. It seems like you should be able to shoot lightning out of your fingertips. You can't.

While there was plenty of fanfare surrounding the hire — something Tar Heels administrators were counting on to sell season tickets and usher UNC into a new era of college football in Chapel Hill — the results and off-field drama have done little to inspire optimism around campus.

I somewhat get it.

This was the splash hire that a few among the board of trustees were hoping would launch North Carolina into the same spotlight as Deion Sanders did for Colorado in year one.

Outside counsel had also been hired to investigate the HR complaint against Lombardi, which is still ongoing, as the general manager hired noted attorney Tom Mars to handle this inquiry.

So, we wait, just like UNC officials are waiting to see their investment pay off.

What happens if North Carolina falls flat again this season?

That's the question athletic department staffers, along with donors who have spent a lot of their own money on this experiment, are contemplating before the ball is even kicked off in Dublin, Ireland, later this month.

Only three years of Belichick's contract were guaranteed, meaning the school would have to pay out the last season of that deal if they were to decide this saga was not worth the hassle any longer.

And yes, North Carolina can afford it. We are in the midst of a changing landscape in college football, with revenue-sharing and NIL soaring to new heights.

There are also plenty of experienced college football coaches who would jump at the opportunity to take the UNC job if it were to open, and probably find success in quicker fashion than Belichick.

When this all started, some North Carolina board members thought the Super Bowls won by the legendary NFL coach would translate into success at the college level.

Now, heading into year two of this wild experiment, those same folks are just hoping to win enough games to secure a decent bowl game in December.

President Donald Trump announced in a Sunday Truth Social post that assistant to the president and White House staff secretary Will Scharf will soon serve as White House counsel.

"It is my Great Honor to announce that, effective September 1st, Will Scharf will become Assistant to the President and White House Counsel, replacing a man, David Warrington, who has done a truly outstanding job as White House Counsel and, before that, for my Presidential Campaign. David will be going on to the Private Sector," Trump said in the post.

"Will has done an amazing job in his current role as White House Staff Secretary, and has also served as Chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission. I know Will well! He previously represented me in numerous cases, including at the Supreme Court, during the Biden Administration’s corrupt and illegal campaign of Weaponization," the president continued.

The OnlyFans model accused of killing her boyfriend inside a Miami apartment has pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to six years in prison.

Courtney Clenney, 30, appeared inside a Miami courtroom on Monday morning where she accepted the deal, which included her pleading guilty to manslaughter with a deadly weapon.

She had previously been charged with second-degree murder in the April 2022 death of her boyfriend, 27-year-old Christian Obumseli.

As part of the plea agreement, Clenney was sentenced to six years in prison, followed by five years of probation. Clenney will receive credit for the nearly four years she has already spent behind bars since her 2022 arrest, meaning she could be released from prison and begin probation in about two years.

Obumseli’s family told the court Monday that his April 2022 death left a permanent void in their lives, describing him as someone who "loved deeply" and remained in what they called a destructive relationship despite previous violence.

The family said Obumseli had previously been cut in the face and stabbed and had written about fears that his love for Courtney Clenney could ultimately cost him his life.

"His life had meaning," the family representative added. "He had a future. And his family deserved to grow with him. He was robbed of all those things. While you still have all yours to enjoy."

Months after Clenney’s August 2022 arrest, Obumseli’s family filed a civil lawsuit against her and several companies connected to the couple’s apartment building.

The suit accused Clenney of battery and alleged that the condominium, property management and security defendants failed to provide adequate security despite circumstances the estate claimed made the fatal attack foreseeable.

Court records reviewed by Fox News Digital show that Clenney resolved the claims against her well before the criminal plea agreement became public.

Democratic lawmakers have argued the SAVE Act would create unnecessary barriers for eligible voters, most notably potentially disenfranchising them.

Davante Adams reveals how he took jersey number 17 from a Jets rookie who demanded $1M

When three-time All-Pro Davante Adams signed with the New York Jets in October 2024, he fully expected to wear No. 17 — the number he'd donned his entire pro career. Turns out, getting that jersey was a little harder than he thought.

During a recent episode of "Bussin' with the Boys," Adams explained how he had to pull rank on a rookie wide receiver who wasn't willing to give up that No. 17 without a fight.

And by fight, I mean a very large sum of money.

"So I showed up when I first got to the Jets Day 1. I came in with my backpack. It was an off day, Tuesday," Adams explained. "A couple of guys were in there, I’m like looking for him. I got $17,000 cash in my backpack. And I’m thinking, like, this ain’t nothing crazy. But like, certainly to give up your number as a rookie, like, you ain’t did s— yet. It was Week 6 and I think he played four plays at that point."

Adams found the rookie and made him an offer.

"I’m like, ‘You have no attachment to this right now. I’ll pay for your whole family to get new jerseys, whatever, because they go out and spend their money on it, However many jerseys you need me to buy I’ll do that and how about $17,000 for the number 17,’" Adams told him.

But that wasn't enough for the rookie.

"He said, ‘It’s great to have you big bro. I can’t wait to learn from you, but I’m gonna need a million,’" Adams recalled.

Shoo. Pretty ballsy of the kid, you have to give him that.

Unfortunately, though, the strategy didn't work out for the rook. Because Adams pulled his offer and took the issue to Jets owner Woody Johnson.

"So I went straight to Woody and said, ‘Give me 17, bro,’" the six-time Pro Bowler recalled. "And he just took it off of him."

Adams was gracious enough not to name the receiver on the podcast, but a quick search reveals it was Malachi Corley who wore the number for the Jets until Adams was traded to New York from the Raiders.

Corley was cut by the Jets ahead of the 2025 season before signing with the Cleveland Browns. He's still on the Browns' roster.

Milwaukee Brewers face San Diego Padres as Logan Henderson looks to extend dominant road stretch

We are at the time of the year when it makes sense to check in on your baseball future bets. I would need to go through every article I wrote about every team to see what I got right and what I got wrong. I don't normally bet a lot of baseball futures because they just take too long to cash, but the few I have look good. Some player props should cash easily, and some of the division bets will hopefully pay off. Before we get there, though, we still have about 40 games remaining for most teams, including tonight's game between the Brewers and Padres.

The Milwaukee Brewers are the best team in baseball. Stop me if you've heard this before. It really doesn't matter what the Brewers do; they seemingly always have a great regular season. Hat tip to them, because they've built their team the right way. Just to put things in perspective, these are guys who have left the organization in the past few seasons: Freddy Peralta, Corbin Burnes, Josh Hader, Willy Adames, Craig Counsell, and you can count Brandon Woodruff if you want to include losing him to a season-ending injury this year. Multiple All-Star pitchers, a solid hitter, and a well-regarded manager, and they haven't missed a beat.

They still have plenty of talent, and they tend to focus on young guys who can be controllable. It helps that their minor league system has a lot of talent, but they also do a good job of developing guys. One of them is Logan Henderson, who is having a nice stretch in the big leagues. Henderson is 6-1 for the season with a 2.70 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP. He has racked up 62 strikeouts in 50 innings of work. He has never faced the Padres in his young career. He's been good on the road, and of the seven homers he has allowed this season, just one was on the road.

The San Diego Padres are doing basically what they always do, as well. They have a solid squad, but they underperform and make the entire season a challenge. They are five games above .500 and currently sit one game behind the Phillies for the final Wild Card spot. Surprisingly, the Diamondbacks are ahead of them at the moment. The concern for the Padres has to be that they have a -10 run differential. The Phillies are even, but if the season ended today with them making the postseason, only San Diego and anyone from the AL West would have a negative differential.

They've tried to address that a bit with their trade deadline moves for some pitching. One of those pitchers is today's hurler, Casey Mize. For the season, Mize is 4-7 with a 3.40 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP. He was rocked in his debut for the Padres, allowing eight earned runs in 3.1 innings of work. He had three walks and nine hits allowed, with just one strikeout as well. He faced the Brewers earlier this season with the Tigers and allowed just one run on three hits over six innings with seven strikeouts. Overall, the Brewers hitters are hitting just 9-for-39 against him.

Mize is a solid pitcher, and I do think he will make the adjustments needed to not give up eight runs. The Padres are a bit more trustworthy at home than they are on the road. However, the more consistent pitcher has been Henderson. Milwaukee is also playing really good baseball at the moment. The advantage the Padres have is that they are keeping the home stand going. I don't think that's enough against this strong Brewers club. Give me the Brewers to win.

White House rebukes CBS interview after host battles NIH director over loss of trust in public health

Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Dr. Jay Bhattacharya clashed with CBS' Margaret Brennan on Sunday over a loss of trust in public health, as the CBS host blamed President Donald Trump's administration officials for the spread of misinformation and was sharply rebuked by the White House.

Brennan asked the NIH director — who is also acting director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — about a shooting at the CDC in Georgia that left DeKalb County Police Department Officer David Rose dead when a suspect fired around 200 rounds into six CDC buildings in August 2025.

The suspect's father indicated his son was fixated on the COVID-19 vaccine and blamed it for making him depressed and suicidal, according to authorities.

Brennan asked Bhattacharya if the administration was doing enough to counter vaccine misinformation. Bhattacharya said they shouldn't be putting emphasis on the shooter, as the CBS host argued her emphasis was on vaccine misinformation.

"I think the key thing is there's a loss of public trust in public health that happened in part because of a lot of – frankly, even — even on this network and on other networks, there was a particular single point of view put across during the COVID pandemic about how, you know, that led to things that really did cause harm to people. The school closures are probably the number one thing that— ," the NIH director began.

"This is not a productive line of claims. We covered COVID in depth on this program, like no other Sunday show did," Brennan pushed back.

The White House rebuked Brennan over the interview in a statement to Fox News Digital.

"The Fake News media openly supported unscientific lockdowns during the pandemic era and openly supported censoring anyone who dared to question those lockdowns. The Fake News media’s continued inability to show an ounce of humility and contrition is exactly why public trust in the mainstream media is even worse than public trust in public health bodies," White House spokesman Kush Desai said.

Bhattacharya added that the decisions put out throughout the pandemic led to a loss of trust in public health, to which the CBS host said, "the Trump administration officials."

Bhattacharya then called out former President Joe Biden in his rebuke.

"No, I mean, like Biden. So Biden, for instance, censored me," he said. "Just so we're clear, the Biden administration censored me, right? They censored — they sent out direct attacks on people who disagreed on the COVID – on sort of whether the COVID vaccine stopped – "

Brennan interjected and said Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary RFK Jr. had called the COVID vaccine the "deadliest vaccine ever made," and said that it wasn't true.

"I'm talking about why you have the kind of distrust that's led to the kind of sort of problems that you're talking – we were talking about earlier in public health. That distrust was not caused by President Trump, it wasn't caused by Bobby. It was caused by a lot of — sort of really fundamental – "

Brennan jumped in and said, "Misinformation."

He continued, "Yeah, but often spread by the government itself regarding natural immunity, closures of schools, closures of mask mandates, people lost their jobs because of these vaccine mandates that didn't make any public health sense. So, if you want to talk about public trust, you have to embrace that fully, right? You can't just talk about it in a narrow political way."

Brennan repeatedly insisted she was talking about the CDC shooting and Bhattacharya's visit with the victim's family.

"What you're talking about is you're trying to blame the shooting on Bobby," he said, referring to RFK Jr.

NewsBusters Managing Editor Curtis Houck said Brennan's approach underscored CBS hasn't become "MAGA TV" as some liberal critics have charged under the leadership of Bari Weiss.

"The fact that CBS News and editor-in-chief Bari Weiss still employ Margaret Brennan is all the proof many of us need to declare that CBS News is not, in fact, that MAGA TV that has become the pants-on-fire narrative across the liberal, elitist media. Brennan's hectoring, guilty-by-association tactics were all too predictable," he told Fox News Digital. "Bhattacharya deftly handled Brennan's insidious smears tying the administration's public health policy to the CDC shooting, and mistakes from Covid. Bhattacharya was merely giving voice to the wrongful closure of schools and the ineffectiveness of most masks, to name a few, but that was intolerable for this CBS show."

Payton McNabb: The backlash against Sophie Cunningham proves the goalposts have moved

Just recently, fans attending a WNBA game were harassed to the point of tears for showing support for Sophie Cunningham, a player whose "offense" was speaking about how "it's important to "protect young girls in the locker room" and that "they shouldn't have to go against biological men." More crazy headlines have followed, from coaches wearing pro-trans-kids shirts to Caitlin Clark dodging questions about her own views on trans athletes.

The reaction — and, quite frankly, vulgar and despicable actions of the Seattle Storm’s co-owner — shows far more about our culture than it does about those fans.

The goalposts for what counts as supporting women have been moved by the very people claiming the mantle of women’s rights — including the women’s league that should be dedicated to women’s advancement in sports, something that is impossible if men are permitted in women’s athletic spaces.

Megan Rapinoe recently waved away concerns about men in women’s sports as a manufactured "wedge issue." "We don't want our little girls to be unsafe in sports," she said. "And it's like, 'Unsafe from who?'" Well, I can answer that: unsafe from someone like the male athlete who ended my own career.

In 2022, my athletic career ended after a male athlete competing on the opposing girls' volleyball team hit me so hard with a spike that I suffered a traumatic brain injury at the age of 17. I still live with the consequences today. At the time, everyone was so focused on "inclusion" that no one weighed the risk to the girls standing across the net. The refusal of the women’s sports establishment to protect women has directly hurt me.

That’s what makes Cunningham’s comments so brave: despite not being a particularly political or partisan figure, she has taken a stand for women and girls like me who had no one advocating for us. Even better, she refused to back out of her comments: "I said what I said. I think it’s kind of common sense…And I think I’ll always believe in that. I think it’s really important to protect children, and that’s little girls who are also involved in that category. I stand on what I said."

For the past decade or so, the activist playbook of pressuring people into saying things they don’t believe has worked in part because activists have been able to force apologies from those who dared challenge the status quo. Right after the 2024 election, Congressman Seth Moulton, D-Mass., said he didn't want his own daughters "getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete," but has since apologized under pressure from activists. On the other hand, Cunningham, who has far less institutional power than a sitting congressman, has refused to budge and in doing so disempowered the vocal minority of activists who cannot be allowed to control women’s sports any longer than they already have.

It wasn’t that long ago that it was cool to be pro-woman.

A few years ago, in the #MeToo era, women who spoke up about harassment and discrimination were celebrated as brave. Fast forward to now, when saying biological males shouldn't compete in women's sports or share women's intimate spaces is enough to get you ridiculed, canceled, or, apparently, removed from an arena. The loudest voices claiming to champion women suddenly lose interest the moment women speak up about the risks of ignoring biological reality. Instead of engaging with the argument, they shame the women making it.

What concerns me even more than my own personal story is the message that we are sending to the next generation of girls. We tell them to trust their instincts, set healthy boundaries, and speak up when something doesn’t feel right. But the moment they express discomfort about sharing a locker room, competing against a biological male, or losing an opportunity because of policies they had no say in, they’re told to stay quiet, be more inclusive, or simply accept it. We cannot spend years teaching girls to use their voices only to shame them when they use those voices to defend themselves.

I am grateful that current athletes like Sophie Cunningham — and now tennis player Aryna Sabalenka — are willing to speak out and not back down from a common-sense position. Speaking out isn't easy — especially at the height of your career. I can only imagine the pressure Sophie is facing, but she’s not waiting until it’s safe to defend women and girls’ sports. She's standing firm because she wants the next generation of girls to have the same opportunities she had. It should never be controversial to protect women’s sports. Title IX exists because women deserve equal and fair opportunities. Beyond that, trans-identifying athletes are always welcome to play sports—but they must play on the team that corresponds with their sex.

Female-only sports allow women like me, Sophie Cunningham, and yes, even Megan Rapinoe, to chase our dreams and compete in the sports we love. The love of the game is something worth protecting and preserving for girls everywhere — no matter where we fall on the political aisle.

Gavin Newsom's 'hidden climate tax' hitting Americans nationwide, lawmaker warns

A California lawmaker is fighting back against an environmental regulation that he says is raising costs for Americans across the country via a "hidden tax" on a variety of goods.

Rep. Vince Fong, R-Calif., is leading legislation to roll back a Biden administration-era regulatory rule that effectively allows California to levy massive cost penalties on shipping vessels docked in its ports.

"It's a massive hidden climate tax that's being imposed on every single ship that's coming into California. And so all of those costs now are getting passed on to consumers," Fong told Fox News Digital in an interview. "Our ports, they work through and process over 40% of all the containers that come into the United States."

Fong's legislation would target the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) authorization allowing California to enforce the rule, called the Vessel At Berth regulation, which was granted in 2020 under Gov. Gavin Newsom's tenure.

It lets the California Air Resources Board (CARB) force a number of large vessels, like cargo ships, to shut off their diesel engines and instead use a state-approved emissions strategy when docked in the Golden State's ports. A failure to do so could result in potentially tens of thousands of dollars of penalties — costs that Fong said are then passed to people buying goods delivered by those ships.

Without the Biden administration's green light, the deep blue state would be rendered mostly toothless. That's why the Trump administration asked Congress to initiate a review of the rule in July 2026, which is what Fong's legislation would pave the way for.

A Senate counterpart to his bill was introduced by Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, who told Fox News Digital that families in his state "pay the price" when California imposes new mandates.

The Port of Los Angeles is consistently ranked as the busiest in the country in terms of traffic, followed by the Port of Long Beach — both in California.

Currently, most large ships that do not shut off their diesel engines and plug into the state's electrical grid or use some mode of electric energy instead could see tens of thousands of dollars per day in penalties. Similar to cars, ships need to run their engines to power lights, temperature regulation and other onboard systems.

Fong argued that because current infrastructure hasn't caught up to allow universal compliance, it inevitably leads to shipping companies paying penalties. He said those penalties affect a variety of goods.

"When you order something on Amazon, when a small business is buying product to put products on their shelves, when grocery stores are trying to get products into the stores, when you're trying to buy gasoline — all of those things come through either the port or it comes through some type of mechanism through a ship," he said. "And so when you add additional costs on our transportation system and our shipping network, those costs ripple throughout the entire supply chain."

It comes at a time when Americans across the country are feeling the strain of the high cost of living, which has emerged as a central issue in the coming midterm elections.

Fong said failing to roll back California's mandate could keep a precedent in place allowing other states to similarly seek the EPA's permission to enforce such standards.

"You have shipping companies that have paid hundreds of millions of dollars in penalties, if you aggregate it all. And as this goes on, this could ripple throughout the United States," Fong said. "You have other states now that are looking at California and say, well, if they're gonna do it, we might do it too. So this could grow exponentially."

Brinks Home data breach puts 1M customers on alert

You hire a home security company to help protect your house. So, hearing that hackers broke into the company's own computer systems may feel especially unsettling. Brinks Home has confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed part of its IT environment. The Dallas-based company says its alarm monitoring and security systems continue to work normally.

However, the intruder has threatened to release information it claims to have stolen. The Brinks Home data breach could affect a wide audience. Brinks Home says it serves residential customers in all 50 states. It also says it protects more than 1 million people across North America. For now, customers face a frustrating gap. Brinks Home has not confirmed exactly what information was accessed or who may be affected.

What Brinks Home confirmed about the cyberattack

Brinks Home discovered unauthorized access to part of its systems on July 20, 2026. The company activated its incident response procedures and moved to contain the intrusion. It also brought in outside cybersecurity experts to investigate. William Niles, CEO of Brinks Home, said the company was working with leading forensic experts to address the incident.

CyberGuy reached out to Brinks Home for additional comment. The company confirmed that its response began as soon as it detected the intrusion. "Brinks Home recently identified a security incident in which an unauthorized party gained access to certain company systems. Upon discovering the incident, we immediately activated our incident response plan, contained the activity, and engaged an industry-leading cybersecurity forensics firm to investigate," Brinks Home told CyberGuy.

The company's most reassuring update involves its security services. Brinks Home says the incident did not involve its products or monitoring services based on what it knows so far. Your security panel and sensors should continue working. Emergency monitoring should also remain available without interruption. However, the investigation has not determined the full scope of the incident.

Brinks Home stressed that its investigation remains in the early stages. "Our investigation is early and ongoing. Our systems are secure, and we are continuing to assess the full scope and potential impact of the incident while closely monitoring our environment," the company said. "If we determine that your information was affected, we will notify you and explain what steps, if any, you should take," the company says in its cybersecurity FAQ.

Hackers claim they stole 4.9 million Brinks Home records

The ShinyHunters extortion group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The gang alleges that it stole more than 4.9 million records from Brinks Home's Salesforce environment. That number refers to database records. It does not mean 4.9 million separate people were affected. One customer may appear in several records.

According to ShinyHunters, the stolen information includes more than 1.1 million rows from a Salesforce customer contacts database. The hackers also claim they obtained more than 4,000 employee records. Those records allegedly contain names, email addresses, job titles and phone numbers. In addition, the group claims it stole around 3.8 million customer support chat logs from the Brinks Care Cresta platform. Those claims have not been independently verified.

BleepingComputer says it has not reviewed the allegedly stolen data. The publication could not confirm the hackers' figures or descriptions. Brinks Home has not confirmed that those specific records were taken. It also has not confirmed that personal information was compromised. That distinction is important. Criminal groups often mix real information with inflated claims to increase pressure on a company. The FBI has warned that ShinyHunters uses real or exaggerated claims while demanding payment. The gang may also use threatening messages or harassing phone calls.

A voice phishing call may have opened the door

ShinyHunters told BleepingComputer that it entered Brinks Home's systems on July 13. The group claims it used a Microsoft Entra voice phishing attack. This type of attack is also called vishing. During a vishing attack, a criminal calls an employee while pretending to work for the company's technology department.

The caller may say the employee needs to complete an account update. The criminal then guides the employee through an authentication or device registration process. If the employee approves the request, the hacker may gain access to the account and its connected business tools. Brinks Home has not confirmed this version of events. Its FAQ says the company is still investigating the incident.

Still, the allegation highlights a growing problem. A hacker may not need to crack a password when an employee can be persuaded to approve access. Voice phishing has helped criminals break into other corporate cloud accounts. That makes unexpected login requests especially dangerous.

Why stolen customer support chats could fuel convincing scams

A customer support chat may sound less sensitive than a password. However, those conversations can contain useful personal details. You may have discussed an installation date or a billing problem. Perhaps you mentioned the equipment installed in your house. A chat could also reveal your contact details, previous service issues or the names of authorized account users. Criminals can use those details to make a scam feel familiar.

For example, a caller might know that you recently contacted Brinks Home. The person could mention your equipment before claiming that an urgent security update is required. That context may make the call sound legitimate. It can also lower your guard before the criminal asks for a password or authentication code. The FBI warns that criminals can use stolen real-world context to create highly convincing phishing campaigns. Brinks Home warns customers about follow-up scams

Brinks Home is warning customers to stay alert for suspicious communications related to the breach. A scammer might pretend to represent Brinks Home. The person could also claim to be a cybersecurity investigator or another party involved in the response. The message may say that your data will be released unless you act immediately. It could direct you to a fake login page or ask you to confirm account credentials.

Brinks Home says it will never ask you to provide sensitive information through an unsolicited communication. That warning deserves your attention even though the company has not confirmed whose data was involved. Hackers do not need a complete customer database to start sending scams. They may use public information or previously stolen data to target people while news of the breach spreads.

Has the alleged Brinks Home data been released?

ShinyHunters threatened to release the alleged data if Brinks Home did not respond by July 30, 2026. That deadline has passed. However, as of today, Brinks Home had not publicly confirmed that customer information had been released. Its official update continued to say that the company was investigating what information may have been involved.

The absence of a confirmed leak does not prove that the hackers lack the information. At the same time, the group's claims should not be treated as established facts without evidence. Customers should focus on what they can control now. That includes securing their accounts and becoming more suspicious of unexpected requests.

Tips to stay safe after the Brinks Home data breach

These steps can help protect your accounts, devices and identity while Brinks Home continues its investigation.

1) Do not trust an unexpected Brinks Home message

Be cautious if someone contacts you about the breach and asks you to confirm personal information. A scammer may claim that your alarm will stop working. The person might also say your account needs an urgent security update. Do not use a link or phone number included in the message. Instead, open the official Brinks Home app yourself. You can also type the company's website address directly into your browser.

2) Verify every urgent request through another channel

Do not trust a caller simply because the person knows your name or account details. Hang up and contact Brinks Home through the app or its official website. Avoid calling a number supplied by the person who contacted you. The FBI recommends verifying unusual requests through a separate communication method before responding.

3) Never share an authentication code

A legitimate representative should not ask you to read aloud a one-time security code. That code may be the final step a criminal needs to enter your account. End the call if someone asks for one. Also, never approve an unexpected login notification. Select deny or reject when you did not initiate the request.

4) Strengthen your Brinks Home password

Change your password if you reused it on another website. You should also change it if you notice unusual account activity or receive an unfamiliar login alert. Create a long password that you have never used for another account. A password manager can create and store a different password for every login. That way, one exposed password cannot unlock several accounts. Pay close attention to your email password. Your email account may control password resets for Brinks Home and many other services.

5) Use a data removal service

However, a data removal service cannot erase information already taken from Brinks Home. It also cannot guarantee that stolen data will disappear from criminal forums. 6) Turn on multifactor authentication where available

Multifactor authentication adds another check after you enter your password. An authenticator app or physical security key can offer stronger protection than a code sent through a text message. Turn on the strongest option available for your Brinks Home account. You should also protect your primary email account. 7) Review your Brinks Home account and alarm credentials

Open the Brinks Home app or customer portal and review your account information. Check your email address and phone number. Look for unfamiliar authorized users or account changes. If you ever shared an alarm code or verbal security password in a support chat, contact Brinks Home through an official channel. Ask whether that credential should be changed. Do not change settings through a link sent in an unexpected message.

8) Secure your mobile carrier account

An exposed phone number can help a criminal attempt a SIM swap or number transfer scam. Contact your wireless carrier and add an account PIN. Ask whether it offers a port-out lock or number transfer lock. These protections can make it harder for someone to transfer your phone number and intercept security codes. You should also use an authenticator app instead of text-message codes when an account offers that choice.

9) Use strong antivirus software

Install strong antivirus software on your computer and mobile devices. This protection can help detect malicious links, fake websites and suspicious downloads before they cause harm. It may also warn you when a phishing page tries to steal your password. Antivirus software cannot reverse the Brinks Home breach. However, it can provide another layer of defense against scams that follow it. Keep the antivirus software updated and allow it to run automatic scans. Still, review your bank statements and credit card activity. Watch for small charges that you do not recognize. Check your credit reports for new accounts or unfamiliar inquiries. 11) Consider a credit freeze if sensitive data is confirmed

A credit freeze can make it harder for a criminal to open a new account in your name. You must place the freeze separately with Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Adding or removing a freeze is free. However, a credit freeze cannot stop misuse of an existing bank or credit card account. Brinks Home has not confirmed that customers need to freeze their credit because of this incident. That recommendation could change if the company identifies exposed identity information.

12) Preserve suspicious messages and report them

Brinks Home tells customers not to respond to a suspicious message or click its links. However, the company also says not to delete the communication right away. Take screenshots and preserve the sender's details. Save the date, time and phone number or email address involved. Then report the message using the contact information listed in the official Brinks Home incident FAQ. The company lists 469-391-4024 as a reporting number. You can also report online fraud or extortion attempts to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at IC3.

13) Wait for an official notice, but stay alert now

Brinks Home says it will contact affected individuals if its investigation confirms that personally identifiable information was involved. However, criminals may send fake breach notices first. Compare any notice with information posted on the official Brinks Home cybersecurity update at brinkshome.com/cybersecurity-update. Contact the company directly when something looks unusual. Do not pay anyone who threatens to release your information.

Brinks Home says it plans to provide more information once its investigation produces verified findings. "Protecting the information entrusted to Brinks Home remains a top priority, and we take our data security responsibilities very seriously. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers as we work through this process. We will provide additional updates as appropriate when more verified information becomes available," the company told CyberGuy.

14) Opt for a reliable home security system

Parents found buried behind home in wealthy neighborhood as police launch international manhunt for son

An international manhunt is underway for an Arizona man who's a suspect in the deaths of both his parents, with police finding their bodies buried in a backyard.

Officials said on Friday that two bodies were located in the backyard of a Litchfield Park, Arizona home. 27-year-old Matthew Flores was named as a suspect in their disappearance and death, and investigators believe he has fled the country.

Flores' mother and father were the individuals found dead.

Avondale Police Officer Daniel Benavidez said during a press conference that officers found large amounts of blood in the house as well as evidence someone tried to clean it, which he said indicates foul play.

The three people disappeared under "suspicious circumstances," which led to a missing persons investigation being opened.

A mini excavator was needed to get the bodies out of the backyard.

Family of bikini designer in Montauk yacht death files $50M lawsuit alleging assault

The family of a bikini designer who was found dead on a Montauk yacht last summer has filed a $50 million lawsuit alleging assault in a case that rocked the wealthy summer hot spot.

"It's been very difficult for the family," said attorney Michael Bowe.

He is representing Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra's family in their recently filed wrongful death lawsuit alleging she was assaulted before her death.

Nolan-O’Slatarra was an Irish bikini designer living in New York City who was found dead aboard a luxury yacht in Montauk last summer. She founded East x East, a boutique resort wear label she frequently promoted through stylish behind-the-scenes glimpses of her photo shoots and design process.

"The EMTs, when they arrived, found blood in her mouth. On her chest, on her head, and they believe behind her, behind her head," Bowe said.

Bowe's team filed a summons with notice against Christopher Durnan in Manhattan Supreme Court on Tuesday. The filing alleges Durnan "intentionally and wrongfully assaulted" Nolan-O’Slatarra aboard a vessel at the Star Island Yacht Club on or about Aug. 4 and Aug. 5, 2025.

Bowe said Nolan-O’Slatarra's family has endured both unbearable heartbreak and a grueling, year-long wait for answers.

"They've conducted their own investigation. We've been conducting our own investigation and it includes a second autopsy by the family by a well-renowned medical examiner, as well as other evidence that we have, some of which we've shared, some of we won't. And then obviously through the discovery process, we expect to secure all the evidence so it can be presented in court," he said.

The family's lawsuit accuses Durnan of gross negligence and reckless conduct that allegedly caused her injuries and death. The document does not describe the alleged assault or explain what happened aboard the yacht.

Bowe said Durnan has not made an effort to contact Nolan-O’Slatarra's family.

"He's made various public comments that simply aren't true. Like he's made public comments about how he's in communication with the family. The family reached out to him multiple times by phone and by text, as you would expect, and those overtures were never responded to," he said.

Her family is seeking damages for wrongful death, as well as for personal injuries and the conscious pain and suffering she allegedly experienced before she died.

The filing also seeks punitive damages, interest, attorneys’ fees and court costs.

The lawsuit says that if Durnan fails to appear in the case, a default judgment could be entered against him for $50 million, plus additional fees and costs, or for an amount determined later by the court.

Elma Geraldine Nolan and Marcello de Peralta filed the action as temporary administrators of Nolan-O’Slatarra’s estate. Durnan’s response to the allegations was not included in the filing.

Nolan was found dead aboard a docked yacht in the early hours of Aug. 5, 2025. Despite efforts by good Samaritans to perform CPR, she was pronounced dead on the yacht.

The fashion entrepreneur, originally from Ireland and known for her high-end bikini brand and infectious social media presence,was in a new romantic relationship, according to Extra.ie . She was reportedly engaged to marry her boyfriend.

Her boyfriend, as reported by the Irish Independent, was not on board the 54-foot SeaRay named Ripple on the night of her death, and she had texted him that she would "Uber home" following what was described as a business outing.

The boat’s owner, described by Extra.ie as being in his 60s, was reportedly found alone and naked with Nolan when authorities responded.

People who were aboard other boats at the Montauk Yacht Club late that night told 27East that a man who owns two boats docked next to each other at the marina came crying for help from others on the dock at about midnight, throwing items at neighboring boats to wake up their crews.

One witness, who declined to give his name, told the local outlet the man was naked and was shouting, "Do something, do something," as he ran along the dock trying to awaken others. In his haste, the outlet reported, he threw a tube of sunscreen at a neighboring vessel.

Autopsy results have not been released in the case, with authorities saying the investigation is ongoing.

Former first-round NBA draft pick Enes Kanter Freedom has made good on his promise to declare for next year's WNBA Draft, officially penning a letter to the league on Monday.

Kanter shared the letter in a social media post, saying "rules are rules!" in the caption.

"Please accept this formal document as my official written notification to the Women's National Basketball Association of my voluntary decision to enter the player pool for the 2027 WNBA Draft," the letter said. "Consistent with the current league collective bargaining agreement, I am submitting this notice to exercise my draft rights and to affirm that I at least twenty-two years old and that I have no remaining intercollegiate eligibility, as required by Article XIII, Section 1(b).

"I request that the WNBA League Office verify receipt of this document and direct any future communications to my personal email address listed above. Thank you for your official processing of my registration into the 2027 draft pool."

Sophie Cunningham and the WNBA clearly at odds

Kanter and former first round NBA pick, Royce White, both declared their intentions to enter the WNBA Draft late last week as a clear rebuttal to the ongoing drama surrounding Sophie Cunningham and the league.

Cunningham told ESPN last month that she believed in protecting young girls in sports.

"I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I'm like, 'I never once said that,'" she told the outlet. "I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."

Speaking of politics, Cunningham was fouled so violently over the weekend by Chicago Sky player DiJonai Carrington that she was ejected from the game, only to then post "White privilege" on social media from the locker room.

The league will now have to, presumably, make a decision today about whether Carrington should be suspended after being assessed a Flagrant 2.

After that, they'll have to dive into Kanter's letter.

Socialist leader squirms during TV interview when forced to address push to abolish prisons, police

A socialist leader squirmed during a tense Sunday interview after a local California television anchor pressed her on the real-life ramifications of the radical party's calls to abolish police and prisons.

In an interview with NBC 4 Los Angeles, anchor Conan Nolan posed pointed questions to Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) National Political Committee Member Frances Gill on the topics of law enforcement, immigration and the movement's other far-left proposals.

After a brief back-and-forth over what defunding the police means and how that would be applied in practice, Gill resorted to deflecting by refusing to engage in 'hypotheticals.'

"What we really want to see is a horizon where folks are not reliant on armed enforcement to meet our public safety needs," Gill conceded.

"Right, but it says 'defund police' on your website — that's your goal — and also to get rid of prisons and jails, correct?" he pressed, to which Gill answered affirmatively.

"So if my daughter is assaulted and raped, is there any agency that would seek to find her assailant and bring him to justice?" asked Nolan.

"Of course, yeah of course—" said Gill before the host jumped back in with a follow-up question.

"What would it be if not police and where would he be if not a jail?" asked Nolan.

"So I guess I really want to avoid getting caught into these hypotheticals and talk about the reality that we're actually facing right now," Gill dodged.

That reality, she said, is the city spending "outrageous amounts on police and policing," instead of addressing real issues plaguing Los Angeles. She suggested that the lack of street lights, substance abuse treatment and mental healthcare are all contributing to a lack of public safety and rise in crime.

The pair then clashed over voter demographics in Michigan's Democratic Senate primary, won by DSA-adjacent candidate Abdul El-Sayed — closely associated with extremist streamer Hasan Piker, who once said America deserved 9/11. The two palled around on the campaign trail.

Noting that she has $500,000 in student debt, Gill said college-educated voters like herself believed their degrees would lead to prosperity, but ultimately they found themselves downwardly mobile because society's "scales are tipped in one direction to benefit the rich."

On the issue of border security, Gill became defensive and questioned whether Nolan was acting in "good faith" when he quizzed her about whether there would be any border security if, like the DSA promotes, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was abolished.

She also denied that former President Joe Biden opened the borders. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data show that the agency encountered at least 11 million people during Biden's presidency.

Under President Donald Trump, that number has waned to fewer than 10,000 per month, and the administration touts that zero illegal aliens have been released into the country since retaking office.
