John Harbaugh's Giants on full display in bruising win over Cowboys to kick off NFL season

For months, the talk throughout the tri-state area had been about this new era for the New York Giants.

How could it not be, as John Harbaugh, after almost two decades with the Baltimore Ravens, signed on as the next Giants head coach. It was a post he said he felt pride assuming, understanding the expectations and pedigree he was supposed to bring back to a prestigious franchise that had been reeling until his arrival.

Well, the Harbaugh era kicked off in the best way possible for Giants fans on Sunday night, as they took down the Dallas Cowboys, 28-20, in the hard-nosed fashion that was to be expected with this new regime.

From the very beginning, the Giants’ defense forced a three-and-out and got a sold-out MetLife Stadium crowd on their feet as Jaxson Dart and company took the field for the first time in 2026. What ensued was a 10-play, 83-yard drive that took 6:13 off the first-quarter clock and resulted in a Cam Skattebo touchdown.

While Harbaugh may not have enjoyed Skattebo’s celebratory backflip, the 7-0 lead on the opening drive was exactly what this coaching staff wanted to see with its top offensive weapons out there for the first time this season.

Long drives were a theme for the Giants in this game, as they used a bruising run game, and some creative play-calls that came at the right time, to fluster the Cowboys’ defense, which was supposed to be an improved unit this season.

Instead, it looked like the Cowboys defense from last season, which struggled to match the power of the offense.

The Giants converted nine of its 11 third downs in this game, and though the Cowboys had eight of their 11 third downs that moved the chains, New York’s came at the right time it seemed on each drive as they methodically moved downfield to set themselves up for scores.

And two of those touchdowns came from Harbaugh’s past with the Ravens.

Isaiah Likely proved to be the catalyst many believed he could for the Giants this season, hauling in two of Dart’s 3 touchdown passes as he finished with a game-high 78 yards on eight receptions.

Just behind him, though, was Malik Nabers, whom the Giants made sure to be cautious with up until gametime this week. Nabers suffered a torn ACL and more in Week 4 last season, and though he has been without a non-contact uniform during practice, Harbaugh wouldn’t tell anyone if he’d play on Sunday night.

Nabers got two thumbs up from trainers before the game, and after being deemed active, he finished with six catches for 69 yards in his return to the Giants, which led to smiles from himself, his teammates and coaches, and all 80,000-plus fans in the stands.

The night would’ve been wrapped up in a bow if Odell Beckham Jr. notched a statistic for the Giants, but that will have to wait for the coming weeks. Beckham, who made the 53-man roster out of training camp, was active but never saw a pass from Dart.

One of the reasons? The Harbaugh effect . A ground-and-pound, tough, physical run game that saw 37 carries that featured creatively from offensive coordinator Matt Nagy and run game coordinator Greg Roman that resulted in 165 rushing yards as a team compared to the Cowboys’ 69.

It’s one thing to think about what a new regime could look like before a season starts, but Harbaugh’s preaching about being a team that resembled the Giants of old that he grew up watching seemed to come to fruition, at least in some respect, on Sunday night in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

La Catalina made her AAA debut in April to the surprise of Mexican fans and immediately worked her way into the Reina de Reinas Championship picture.

She won a gauntlet match to get a title shot at Triplemania 34, and on Sunday, she ended the long reign of Flammer to win the title.

La Catalina had Flammer on the ropes late in the match. She went for a diving splash but didn’t get all of it as Flammer put her knees up at the last second. Flammer avoid the pinfall at that point and thought she got back in control when she dropkicked La Catalina out of the ring.

Flammer looked up the ramp, appearing to wonder where La Hiedra was. La Hiedra, Flammer’s tag team partner, was nowhere to be found. It took Flammer out of her game. La Catalina tossed Flammer from the top rope. She nailed a hip attack and then a running knee to topple Flammer.

The win for La Catalina ends Flammer’s illustrious title reign at 1,128 days. She was the longest-reigning Reina de Reinas champion and one of the longest-reigning champions across pro wrestling. But all of that ended in Mexico City on Night 2 of AAA’s premier events.

There will be no rest for the new champion as she already has a challenger waiting in the wings.

Roxanne Perez earned the No. 1 contender spot for the title on Night 1 of Triplemania 34. She held off Nattie, La Hiedra and Faby Apache to win the match. Perez pinned La Hiedra, who appeared to be hoping for Flammer to have her back in that match.

Whatever the disconnect was between Flammer and La Hiedra, it showed up on the biggest stage of Lucha Libre.

Giants honor 9/11 heroes before emotional Sunday Night Football opener against Cowboys

Before the Giants took to the field against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, MetLife Stadium marked the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a pregame tribute honoring victims and first responders.

Fans arriving at MetLife Stadium were welcomed by FDNY’s ceremonial Ladder 343 truck and an authentic World Trade Center steel beam displayed outside the gates by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

Two vertical columns of light, echoing the World Trade Center’s "Tribute in Light," illuminated the night sky above MetLife Stadium.

The ceremony included a special performance of the national anthem by members of the NYPD and FDNY.

New York City first responders formed a gauntlet for the Giants during player introductions. Players, coaches and staff from both teams wore commemorative NYPD, FDNY and PAPD hats on the sideline, while players and coaches wore "Never Forget" T-shirts during warm-ups.

Trump says China 'spies' on US after report ties Chinese imagery to Iran strike

President Donald Trump said Sunday that China "spies on us" just as "we spy on them," following a report that Chinese entities provided Iran with satellite imagery before a deadly missile attack that killed three U.S. troops.

While speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump was asked about a Wall Street Journal report that Chinese entities allegedly supplied Iran with high-resolution satellite imagery of Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan before Tehran's July 17 missile attack.

"They basically do what we do," Trump said.

According to The Wall Street Journal, U.S. officials linked the imagery to Iran's July 17 strike on the Jordanian base, which killed three U.S. troops.

California football coach arrested after students make disturbing discovery at school

A high school football coach in California was arrested Friday after students discovered a cellphone secretly recording them while they were changing inside a campus locker room, police said.

The phone belonged to Jeffrey Pribble, a 48-year-old teacher at Tracy High School, located east of San Francisco, the Tracy Police Department said Saturday.

According to the school's website and social media accounts, Pribble is the varsity football head coach and works in the school's physical education program.

Pribble has held the coaching position for five years and has 22 years of experience as an educator with the district, according to his Facebook page.

SCHOOL EMPLOYEE ACCUSED OF SECRETLY FILMING 12 GIRLS IN CHANGING ROOM FACES NEW CHARGES

The discovery was made Thursday when a student and several classmates found the phone recording inside the locker room, officials said.

The students stopped the recording, deleted the video and turned the device over to a teacher.

By Thursday evening, a concerned parent then contacted Tracy police patrol officers, prompting school resource officers and detectives to open an investigation.

The following day, officers determined that the phone belonged to Pribble, who was arrested Friday.

The Tracy Unified School District placed Pribble on leave pending the outcome of separate criminal and district investigations, officials said.

According to the Pleasanton Weekly, Tracy High Principal Jon Waggle acknowledged the arrest of an employee in an email to parents.

The school did not identify the teacher or the specific allegations but noted that the district was fully cooperating with police.

"Tracy High School and all our Tracy Unified schools are proud of being safe schools. The cooperation between students, parents and staff members keeps our schools safe and is important and appreciated. Thank you for your continued partnership and support."

Tracy Police Chief Sekou Millington added that the safety and privacy of the city's students remain among the department's top priorities.

"Our children deserve to feel safe at school and in every space where they should be able to learn, grow, and simply be kids," Millington said.

An Air Force colonel shot down over Iran survived a terrifying fall, three broken bones and a two-day enemy manhunt after turning to God as his damaged parachute sent him plunging toward the desert.

The colonel, identified only by his mission call sign "Bravo," revealed in a new interview with CBS News’ "60 Minutes" how a desperate prayer began an extraordinary 50-hour fight to make it home alive.

"At one point when I looked up and saw no parachute, that was the most terrifying thing I’ve ever seen," Bravo said in his first public account of the April ordeal.

"So I paused, right then, and I prayed, ‘Lord, your will be done. But if I’m getting through this, I need help.’"

Bravo described the missile strike as feeling like the jet had been hit by a freight train. He and the pilot, known as "Alpha," initially tried to save the roughly $30 million aircraft before realizing they had no choice but to eject.

Alpha escaped safely, but the missile had damaged Bravo’s parachute, sending him hurtling toward the ground at an estimated 70 to 100 mph, CBS reported.

The violent landing broke Bravo’s back, arm and shoulder and left him stranded roughly five miles from Alpha in the heart of enemy territory.

"Never let a lack of motivation put you on Iranian TV," he told CBS.

Iranian forces were actively hunting the downed aviators and at one point came within several hundred meters of Bravo, according to U.S. military officials cited by the outlet. Images of the wrecked American fighter jet had already appeared in Iranian media, while videos reportedly showed armed groups searching the region.

"Whether they’re alive or not, we’re going to go get them," Hegseth recalled.

American forces rescued Alpha about six hours after the crash during a dangerous daylight mission in which U.S. helicopters came under fire.

"It was a gun fight all the way in and all the way out," Hegseth said. "But they got Alpha back."

Bravo, however, could not be found.

In a statement provided to "60 Minutes," Alpha praised the combat search-and-rescue teams and other U.S. forces involved in bringing both men home.

"Words cannot capture how thankful my family and I are and how proud I am to serve alongside each and every one of them," Alpha said.

The pilot has since returned to flying but declined to appear publicly because of security concerns, CBS reported.

As darkness fell on Bravo’s first day in Iran, the injured colonel managed to send a message to U.S. forces.

"God is good," he wrote.

Bravo also told commanders that he was injured but still moving. Military leaders considered launching another rescue operation that night, but Hegseth said the conditions did not come together and officials made the agonizing decision to leave the colonel in Iran for another day.

Bravo endured the high desert’s wind and cold with almost no food or water while American forces tracked both him and the Iranian teams trying to capture him.

The CIA launched a deception campaign designed to confuse Iranian forces and used classified technology to pinpoint Bravo’s location, according to CBS. Newly declassified footage showed U.S. bombers and drones striking nearby forces linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as the rescue mission moved into place.

More than 90 U.S. service members entered Iran on the ground, marking the first American boots inside the country in 46 years, Cooper told the outlet. Hundreds more took part in the air, while thousands provided support.

Two large search-and-rescue aircraft landed on a makeshift desert runway before smaller "Little Bird" helicopters flew toward Bravo’s position on the ridgeline.

Bravo called the moment he saw his rescuers "one of the greatest moments of my life."

His first words to them were simple: "Let’s go."

But the dangerous operation was not over.

The landing gear of the two rescue planes became trapped in the desert sand, stranding Bravo and more than 90 elite U.S. service members. A clandestine Air Force unit was ultimately brought in to extract the group, CBS reported.

The U.S. military then destroyed the two stranded aircraft, each valued at roughly $100 million, along with the smaller helicopters to prevent sensitive American technology from falling into Iranian hands.

Bravo was finally safe about 50 hours after Dude 44 was shot down, with the rescue completed as the sun rose on Easter Sunday.

The colonel, who called his survival a "modern-day miracle," said he believes God carried him through the fall and the harrowing days that followed.

"I believe that it’s a testament to God’s provision in my life to bring me through that moment in a way that didn’t prevent injuries, but prevented any catastrophic injuries that would have affected my ability to survive," he told CBS.

Bravo said his ordeal was ultimately bigger than one downed aviator.

Maryland dad blamed 'Satan' after 2-month-old daughter died from horrific head trauma

A Maryland couple was arrested after the death of their 2-month-old daughter who suffered head injuries, with the father allegedly telling police the girl's injuries were caused by "Satan slamming a door on the child," according to charging documents and prosecutors.

Oscar Pineda and Katerin Monzon-Alvarado, both 21, are facing charges for first and second-degree child abuse, first and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment that carry a maximum possible sentence of 55 years in prison in connection with the death of 2-month-old Aida Mikea Monzon Alvarado, Baltimore Police said, adding that they could face additional homicide charges pending the outcome of the autopsy report.

The baby was taken to Harbor Hospital on Wednesday with what doctors described as "suspicious" severe bruising around her eyes and jawline. A later examination revealed what charging documents describe as "significant head and brain trauma" and "multiple skull fractures" that were not noticed during the initial examination, charging documents state, according to CBS Baltimore.

The girl's father allegedly claimed to police that his daughter was injured "due to a supernatural force or Satan slamming a door on the child." The prosecutor argued that the extent of the girl's injuries could not have been caused by a single fall from the bed.

Police said the girl's mother brought the baby to the hospital on Wednesday after she became unresponsive. The woman initially told police the baby became unresponsive while lying face down in their bed after she was fed.

Prosecutors said the mother told investigators the child was "freezing and in shock" when she took her to the hospital.

Hospital staff could not revive the child, and she died in the hospital.

Both parents later admitted to investigators that they noticed the girl's bruises on Sept. 6 and that she began vomiting the following day. They said they did not seek medical treatment until she was unresponsive on Wednesday.

The pair is Guatemalan nationals, and prosecutors argued they pose "an extreme flight risk."

Both parents were held without bail.

Creepy 'Cat in the Hat' trend targets schools as costumed figure allegedly chases teen girl

A shadowy figure dressed as the Cat in the Hat allegedly chased a teenage girl through a Canadian neighborhood, as a creepy online trend featuring sinister depictions of the beloved children’s character has prompted investigations and school warnings targeting schools and students across multiple states.

The unidentified girl was walking in West Kelowna, British Columbia, at about 9 p.m. Aug. 24 when a person wearing a costume resembling the Dr. Seuss character allegedly began chasing her, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

The teen escaped and reached her home safely, but police are still working to identify the costumed individual.

Police have not said whether the real-world chase is connected to a separate "Cat in the Hat" social media trend that has spread across the United States, putting schools on alert and landing some juveniles in custody.

Authorities from California to Florida, Virginia and Texas have responded with investigations and increased patrols as they work to separate internet hoaxes from credible dangers.

The Baldwin Park Police Department in California said it was reviewing "concerning social media posts" that referenced local schools and named students and staff members.

In Virginia, the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation after an account posted content referencing Mechanicsville High School and the trend. Deputies increased their presence at the campus while attempting to identify the person behind the account.

The sheriff’s office similarly urged residents not to repost the material, warning that doing so could amplify the message and complicate efforts to trace its origin.

Florida’s St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said it was investigating content involving county schools but had not identified a credible threat. Deputies nevertheless increased their presence on campuses across the county as a precaution.

Texas law enforcement agencies have also warned that creating or spreading the threatening posts could carry consequences far beyond school discipline.

The Frio County Sheriff’s Office said some anonymous accounts have attached lists of students, schools or communities to menacing images and videos in an apparent attempt to provoke fear.

Authorities there determined posts mentioning the area did not appear to present a credible threat but increased patrols and law enforcement visibility around schools.

"Participating in, re-creating, or spreading these threatening posts is not a harmless joke," the sheriff’s office said, warning that copycat accounts and forwarded threats could lead to charges involving cyberbullying, harassment or terroristic threats.

Laredo police delivered a similar warning, saying criminal charges and arrests may follow even when the person responsible claims the post was only meant as a prank.

"A few seconds on social media can result in a police investigation, school disciplinary action, and potentially serious criminal consequences," the department said.

Premont police met with school district leaders after learning of the trend and warned that fake accounts, AI-generated content and purported pranks involving threats could result in charges including making a terroristic threat or filing a false alarm or report under Texas law.

The warnings come as authorities in multiple states have traced threatening accounts to juveniles.

Four girls between 13 and 15 years old were arrested in Berwick, Louisiana, after police linked them to TikTok accounts that alarmed families and schools, according to Police1. Three were charged with terrorizing or menacing, while a fourth was charged with cyberbullying.

A 12-year-old Florida student was accused of posting a written threat to kill tied to the trend, while a 14-year-old Colorado student was arrested after a post referenced a middle school and several homes, the outlet reported. Authorities in Alabama, Ohio and Kentucky have also announced juvenile arrests or pending charges connected to similar posts.

Police across the affected communities have repeatedly asked parents and students not to share the content, even when attempting to warn others. Instead, users should capture screenshots showing the account name and threatening material and send the evidence directly to school officials or law enforcement.

Jaxson Dart got absolutely rocked in the first quarter of Sunday night's regular-season opener between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys.

It happened along the Giants sideline. Indeed, it happened on the white (out of bounds) area along the Giants sideline.

And then some interesting things happened:

Dart went flying into some equipment along that sideline and immediately raised up to make sure everyone understood he was fine.

His teammates, obviously not appreciating that Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown knocked their starting quarterback into hard sideline stuff while he was clearly out of bounds, went after the linebacker.

Then Cowboys players rallied to defend Overshown.

And we had beef among the opposing players, NFL style. You know, guys pushing and shoving while wearing helmets and more padding than an ancient gladiator.

Officials stepped in a restored order by throwing a flag on Overshown and the Cowboys for unnecessary roughness. That cost the Cowboys 15 yards above the 22 yards Dart had already gained on his run.

But here's the intrigue:

Dart didn't get summoned into the blue medical tent.

He clearly took a significant hit that could have easily caused the Unaffiliated Neurotrauma Consultant to force Dart into the tent. But it didn't happen.

And, you may recall, that's something Dart lobbied for in a manner of speaking during the preseason.

Dart expressed frustration after being summoned to the Giants’ blue medical tent during an Aug. 9 preseason game against the Vikings, saying he respected the NFL’s safety rules but was "puzzled" he always seemed to wind up in the tent every time he was hit.

Dart said he believed the hit in that particular game had merely knocked the wind out of him. He was cleared to return after the evaluation. But the QB wasn't happy about having to leave the game.

His history, by the way, explains the heightened scrutiny.

During his 2025 rookie season, Dart was sent for concussion evaluations five times and was diagnosed with one concussion. That caused him to miss two games.

He also exited a November game against the Bears after suffering that concussion, although he returned later in the season and finished the year.

Sunday night's hit was no less aggressive and severe as any of the ones Dart endured last year.

But, again, no trip to the tent. So here's a conspiracy theory:

Maybe Dart helped himself by complaining in August.

No one is saying independent doctors would fail to do their jobs in protecting vulnerable players. But perhaps Dart earned himself the benefit of the doubt.

It looked that way in the first quarter of Sunday night's game.

Boston Red Sox rookie left-hander Payton Tolle, sporting one of baseball’s most marvelous mustaches, opened Sunday’s rain-delayed start against the Kansas City Royals by throwing an immaculate inning.

Tolle retired the top of the Royals’ lineup on just nine pitches in front of the Fenway crowd. The 23-year-old left-hander attacked the strike zone, firing eight four-seam fastballs and one sinker.

Before delivering his ninth pitch, Tolle flashed an enthusiastic look toward home plate, knowing he was on the brink of an immaculate inning. He then struck out Jac Caglianone to complete the feat.

The immaculate inning was the 125th in MLB history and just the eighth in Red Sox history since 1901.

Tolle became Boston’s first pitcher to accomplish the feat since Chris Sale in 2021 and the first to do it in the opening inning since Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez did so against Seattle in May 2002.

"I would probably consider myself more on the old-school side of it," Tolle told reporters when asked about the decline of starter workloads across baseball. "I grew up thinking that a starter needs to go as long as possible every time ... every time I go out there, I want to throw a complete game. It’s a special thing that is being lost in today’s game."

New AP Poll Top 25 punishes Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas jumps to No 1 after big comeback

Week two of the college football season delivered another series of typically chaotic results. And the College Football Playoff picture has already shifted, thanks to several surprising outcomes.

The Oregon Ducks were expected to compete for a Big Ten Championship with the Ohio State Buckeyes and Indiana Hoosiers, only to barely escape against Boise State and get deservedly beaten by Oklahoma State. The Cowboys' in-state rivals, the Oklahoma Sooners, lost on the road at Michigan, scoring just 10 points in the process.

Those Wolverines, left for dead after the asterisk-laden win over Western Michigan in week one, are suddenly right back in the playoff picture after beating a top-11 SEC opponent. And of course, the Texas Longhorns won the game of the year over Ohio State, giving them a huge resume boost and a substantial leg up should they need an at-large playoff berth.

This week's AP Top 25 Poll reflects some of that chaos, while also providing a good example of the flaws with the "some wins are better than some losses" perspective shared by such figures as Nick Saban.

One of the obvious takeaways? No matter what fans, coaches, or commentators say, it's clear that winning and losing is still king. Even when "strength of schedule" is taken into account.

Oklahoma dropped a whopping 13 spots after losing to Michigan, getting no credit for scheduling a top-20 caliber opponent in a home-and-home series. BYU, meanwhile, jumped a whopping four spots, leapfrogging some teams, after a 28-17 win over Arizona in Provo.

Indiana also moved up after beating up on Howard, as did Miami after a 77-7 win over hapless Florida A&M. Why did those teams move up? Because Ohio State fell a remarkable five spots after a one-point loss on the road to Texas in a game in which they had a 20-point lead and were a missed field goal away from cruising home with a win.

And therein lies the problem. The Buckeyes did what everyone says they want college football teams to do, scheduled a top-tier opponent in an on-campus series. On the field they lost, but as the postgame win expectancy and expected score indicated, it was effectively an evenly matched game. Per ESPN's SP+, the Longhorns had 50.2% win expectancy, Ohio State, 49.8%. Adjusted scoring margin was 0.0. It's almost impossible to play a more evenly matched game than that.

Their reward? Falling five spots, behind Indiana and Miami that played overmatched FCS teams. In a world where schedule and resume matters, Ohio State should be no worse than second. They played the now No. 1 team in the country and came as close as you can to winning without winning. Why did they drop at all? It's not as if their win over Ball State wasn't impressive, or that we've learned something about Georgia after the Bulldogs played Tennessee State and Western Kentucky.

Human beings, no matter what they say or claim, will always evaluate based on results. It's too much to ask for them to move teams up or down based on other factors. So the Buckeyes and Sooners drop, and playing an FCS team is rewarded.

At the end of the day and season, week two of the AP Poll doesn't matter much. But it's indicative of the mindset that the playoff selection committee has and will have. It's not just wins and losses, it's how you play against the competition you face.

As for Oregon, they have the schedule and talent to fight their way back into playoff contention, but their margin for error is now gone. After Portland State, they travel to USC, and still have Ohio State, Michigan, and Washington later in the season. The Ducks better kick things into high gear sooner rather than later, or by the end of September they could be on the outside of the top 25 looking in.

Missing 70-year-old hiker rescued after disappearing for a week in remote national park

A 70-year-old man who vanished a week ago while hiking in Isle Royale National Park was found "alive and alert" Saturday, according to officials.

Craig Berg was suffering from hypothermia when he was rescued by Coast Guard and Michigan State Police crews, officials said.

"The Coast Guard and Michigan State Police rescued an injured, ailing man Saturday after he went missing in Isle Royale National Park on Sept. 5," the U.S. Coast Guard Great Lakes said.

Video released by authorities shows a helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City hoisting Berg from the ground. He was then taken to a regional airport in Gwinn for emergency medical evaluation.

Officials did not disclose what happened to Berg while he was missing or provide additional details about his injuries.

Multiple agencies and resources were deployed to aid the emergency search, which also included a 45-foot Coast Guard boat, drones and seaplanes.

The search involved the National Park Service, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol and Minnesota Department of Public Safety, according to Lt. Ben Eckola, a Michigan State Police public information officer.

"We’re also thankful to the fellow hikers who helped, Isle Royale Seaplanes, and No One Left Behind K9 Search and Rescue. Everyone’s efforts played an important part in finding Craig," Eckola said in a statement.

The Detroit Free Press reported that Berg, of Royal Oak, Michigan, arrived at the national park on Aug. 27 for an extended solo hike but failed to return home Sept. 5.

Due to its remote location, Isle Royale is one of the least-visited national parks and has limited infrastructure.

Berg’s wife, Debbie, told the Detroit Free Press that only two rangers are stationed on the island and that the park has two camp stores and a lodge.

What happened on Saturday night in Santiago, Chile, was WWE at its best.

It seemed like a routine house show on WWE’s tour of South America as some of its superstars prepare for a raucous "Monday Night Raw" in Mexico City at Arena CDMX. Stephanie Vaquer, who is from Chile and had the entire nation behind her, went up against Liv Morgan for the Women’s World Championship.

House shows are untelevised events that occur outside of the main shows that WWE holds each week. Usually, champions put their titles on the line or have matches against rivals with little to no consequence to the storylines they’re telling when fans tune in on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

Saturday night changed all that when Vaquer defeated Morgan with Becky Lynch as the special guest referee.

Morgan was upset with Lynch’s officiating and began to push her in the ring. She then slapped her across the face. Morgan turned her attention back to Vaquer and was met with a thrust kick. Vaquer tried to finish off Morgan but the New Jersey native countered and quickly hit Vaquer with an Oblivion.

Lynch went to count and as she hit two, she stopped and gave Morgan double birds. Vaquer took advantage. She went on the offensive and finished Morgan off with the Vaquer Inferno from the top rope. She pinned Morgan and the crowd in Santiago exploded.

It is the second reign for Vaquer. She initially won the vacated title at Wrestlepalooza against Iyo Sky last September. She held the championship for 210 days before Morgan won it at WrestleMania 42.

Morgan’s latest reign comes to an end at 147 days.

While Vaquer celebrated with some women on the Raw roster, there are sharks swimming around her to get a chance at the belt. Lynch is among those who will immediately step into the title picture.

Accused killers vanish after family massacre before manhunt ends hundreds of miles away

A deadly shooting inside a North Carolina family home triggered an urgent search for two accused killers and an interstate manhunt that would end with another burst of gunfire.

Gaston County Police officers responded to a home on Forbes Road at approximately 8:43 a.m. Thursday after receiving a report of gunfire inside the residence.

Officers discovered four people suffering from gunshot wounds. Two were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were rushed to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Police identified the two people killed as Victoria "Heather" Moore, 50, and Megan "Josiah" Bumgardner, 38. The two surviving victims remained in critical but stable condition Friday, according to police.

4 SHOT INSIDE NORTH CAROLINA HOME, 2 KILLED AS POLICE IDENTIFY PERSON OF INTEREST

Detectives identified two residents of the home, Camryn Moore, 26, and Cory Armstrong, 29, as suspects in the bloodshed. WSOC-TV reported that Heather Moore was Camryn Moore’s mother and Bumgardner was her uncle.

Police said they believed everyone involved knew one another and described the shooting as an isolated incident with no continuing threat to the Gaston County community.

Investigators have not disclosed what may have triggered the violence.

Camryn Moore and Armstrong allegedly fled Gaston County immediately after the shooting. By Thursday afternoon, detectives had obtained warrants charging each of them with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

The Gaston County Police Department enlisted the help of the U.S. Marshals Service Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force as investigators tracked the pair’s movements across multiple states overnight.

The search reached Ohio at approximately 8 a.m. Friday, when state troopers spotted the suspects’ vehicle outside Athens and attempted to pull it over, authorities said.

Moore and Armstrong allegedly refused to stop, setting off a multi-county pursuit.

The chase came to a violent end when their vehicle swerved to avoid spike strips deployed in the roadway and crashed, according to information provided to North Carolina investigators by Ohio authorities.

Officers then reported hearing two gunshots coming from the wrecked vehicle.

Law enforcement deployed a drone to look inside and discovered Moore and Armstrong dead. Authorities have not disclosed who fired the shots or officially announced the manner of their deaths.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the pursuit, crash and deaths.

Back in Gastonia, neighbors were stunned by the violence that shattered their normally peaceful street.

Loretta Forbes, whose husband’s grandfather built her home in 1914 and gave Forbes Road its name, told WSOC-TV that she knew the family living next door.

"I just kept saying, ‘My God. Oh God,’ coming down the stairs," Forbes told the outlet. "They seem to be very nice people. It just shakes you up to think that could happen so close by."

Forbes said she was praying for the family and searching for answers.

"I want to know what’s happened," she said. "I want to know about the family."

Jennifer Greene, a friend and co-worker of Heather Moore, drove to the home after Moore unexpectedly failed to report for her shift.

Sydney Sweeney seemingly responded to backlash from her recent nude sports ad.

Sweeney, 29, shared a series of images on social media over the weekend which featured prominent athletes posing naked for various magazine covers.

Earlier this week, the "Euphoria" star faced harsh criticism after daring to bare her body in a provocative campaign for the sports trading app Novig.

Sweeney smiled while protecting some modesty with a pair of footballs covering her upper body in a carousel of images posted Sunday on Instagram.

She went on to show off ESPN magazine covers featuring nude athletes, including Serena Williams, Ronda Rousey, Sue Bird, Megan Rapinoe and Caroline Wozniacki.

On Wednesday, Sweeney helped launch the trading app with a nearly-naked video where she admitted it's "just sports."

While many comments encouraged "The Housemaid" actress, Sweeney was hit with accusations of sexualizing a predominantly male-dominated field.

"As a former athlete and a woman who has personally experienced sexualized comments, I’m genuinely disgusted and deeply disappointed by this campaign," one user wrote. "We’ve spent years fighting to be seen and respected for our talent, strength, and achievements-not reduced to our bodies."

"This is a slap in the face to every professional female athlete," another user wrote, while one asked, "How do we cancel this?"

"This is the greatest ad in sports and sports betting history," one said. Another wrote: "Keep it up Sydney!"

"Big fan of Syd. That said, I can't help feeling like an old man when I think about how tacky this ad is," one user said. "The campaign was about embracing a fun idea," Sweeney said in a statement, according to Variety. "The concept is simple: cut through the noise and put the focus entirely on sports. The campaign brings that idea to life with confidence, humor and a playful edge."

Sweeney's representatives did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

This wasn't her first brush with provocative material. Sweeney's faced criticism over her revealing role in HBO's "Euphoria" and has also posed in lingerie several times while promoting her intimates brand, Syrn.

Her 2025 collaboration with American Eagle for its fall clothing campaign, "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans," has sparked a mix of reactions on social media.

While some have described the campaign as "tone-deaf" due to alleged racial undertones, others have praised the actress for killing "woke" advertising.

In a promo video posted to the brand's Instagram, Sweeney walked toward an AE billboard featuring her and the tagline "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Genes." Sweeney crossed out "Genes" and replaced it with "Jeans" before walking away.

According to Salon, the term "great genes" was historically used to "celebrate whiteness, thinness and attractiveness."

While some fans called out the "entirely tone-deaf" approach and compared the ad to "nazi propaganda," others came to Sweeney's defense.

Anthropic CEO likens AI fight with China to Cold War, seeks 'disarmament negotiations'

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on Sunday compared the U.S.-China artificial intelligence (AI) race to the Cold War with the Soviet Union, warning both nations must manage the threat of "potential destruction" from each other.

Amodei, who previously published an essay on Saturday warning about AI efforts outpacing human capabilities to control the technology, reiterated his concerns to "CBS Sunday Morning" that AI could potentially threaten mankind if left unchecked. He encouraged efforts to slow down production, but CBS correspondent Jo Ling Kent asked him whether that was the best solution to compete with China.

Amodei acknowledged that it was a tough "dilemma" for the U.S. but suggested that part of the solution could be to open discussions with China as the U.S. did with the Soviet Union.

"It's not in any government's interest to have bioterrorism," Amodei said. "And so we should talk with the Chinese and see if we can work together to put limits to put a speed limit on the rate of this technology."

"It's a little bit like, you know, for all our differences with, you know, other systems of government and I have many — I generally have a hawkish position on China —but for all our differences, think about when it was the U.S. and the Soviet Union, right?" he continued. "And we each had 10,000 nuclear missiles pointed at each other. Even for all our differences, we recognized that that was too many, that we needed to engage in talks that could lower the scale of the potential destruction."

Kent asked whether he believed the Cold War should be used as a model for the AI arms race.

"I didn't say we should use the Cold War as a model...disarmament negotiations like arms limitation, I do think that is an appropriate lens through which to think about this at the geopolitical level," Amodei said. That's why we're having this whole conversation."

Fox News Digital reached out to Anthropic for comment.

Amodei's essay drew support from high-profile tech executives such as SpaceX CEO and xAI founder Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. However, other tech experts and entrepreneurs disagreed with his essay, either because of his concerns or his suggestions.

Former White House AI "czar" David Sacks pushed back against AI warnings like Amodei's, including a viral post from former Anthropic staffer Jacob Coxon.

Former OpenAI researcher Daniel Kokotajlo responded to Amodei's essay on "Fox News Live" Saturday, arguing that voluntary industry measures might not be enough to prevent advanced systems from escaping human control.

"After they've accumulated all of the hard power in the world, they run the factories, they're integrated into the military, you know, they're sort of running the whole system, and humans are just sort of giving them orders," Kokotajlo said. Iran-backed Houthi rebels captured Perim Island in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait Sept. 11, opening a new front at a vital global shipping chokepoint as a former Pentagon official warned Sunday the militants had entered a "kill box."

The island's capture came after a month-long offensive along Yemen’s western coast that killed more than 1,500 soldiers and forced Yemen’s government to acknowledge a "painful" defeat, according to The Associated Press.

"With Perim, they have gained what we could call the cork in the Red Sea bottle," Morgan Murphy, a former Pentagon press secretary and retired Navy captain, told Fox News Digital.

"But they've put themselves into a kill box. They're nowhere near the capability of the United States and if the president so chooses, he can wipe them off the face of that rock pretty easily," Murphy warned.

Despite Perim sitting in the middle of the narrow maritime passage, Murphy detailed how the Houthis had effectively placed themselves in an area that is vulnerable to concentrated fire.

"Perim cuts that chokepoint right in half, and it's only 18 miles wide there," Murphy said.

He said the island has served as a pivotal maritime vantage point for hundreds of years, previously targeted for control by French forces and held by the British Empire for over a century.

Perim — a desolate volcanic island also known as Mayun — also sits roughly 20 miles off the Horn of Africa, placing it in proximity to Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti, home to one of the largest U.S. military installations on the continent.

"We have incredible firepower in that region, and that's a little rock in the middle of that strait. It's a volcanic rock. It doesn't have any water. It's uninhabitable," Murphy warned.

"There's no vegetation to speak of. And the Houthis have just massed their troops on that rock. So what that is, what we would call that in the Navy, is a kill box."

Satellite imagery of the island shows a 1.85-kilometer (6,070-foot) runway alongside three military hangars, which regional intelligence reports attribute to past construction by the United Arab Emirates.

"There's a 6,000-foot airstrip on that island. I think that Emiratis built it," Murphy said.

"It's nice to have an airstrip, and especially a long runway, but we don't know the condition of that runway. He added that the U.S. military holds overwhelming force options if commanders elect to target the island.

"We could wipe that rock into glass, just blast it into a smooth glass surface, put skates back on our feet, and skate all over it," Murphy said.

"That's why the Houthis have kind of played coy with the president, and they know that even if they fortify that rock they're not going to be able to hold it in the face of the United States Navy."

The developments come amid diplomatic maneuvering between Washington, Riyadh and the Houthis in recent days.

Sources confirmed to Fox News Digital that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had called President Donald Trump twice Sept. 10 to urge him to authorize U.S. military strikes against Houthi positions.

Trump declined direct intervention, with U.S. officials noting the administration has no immediate plans for direct combat involvement but will continue offering intelligence assistance.

Speaking to reporters in Dublin on Sept. 12, Trump also indicated the Houthis had signaled a desire to avoid direct confrontation with American forces.

"The Houthis called us, and they don’t want to fight with us. They let us know, they don’t want to fight with us... they don’t want us to go after them," Trump said.

Murphy suggested, however, that Washington’s restraint should not be mistaken for inaction.

"I can't speak for the president. But this administration has not shown a lack of resolve to use force," Murphy said.

"I wouldn't doubt at all if the president took steps to pound some of these folks into the sand if they continue to really disrupt the global energy supply."

Yemeni government, regional and Iranian sources told Reuters the Houthi advance was sustained by Iranian weaponry and tactical direction from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, with U.S. officials estimating hundreds of IRGC officers remain active in Yemen.

Murphy noted that Tehran's strategy appears designed to drive up global fuel prices by choking critical shipping lanes.

Comparing the conflict to historical naval power struggles, Murphy emphasized the strategic mismatch.

"We're in a different era. They are nowhere near the sophistication of the world's major powers. The Houthis are using a 19th-century playbook. They are not using 21st-century warfare," he said.

"So, yes, they've caught a critical cork in the Red Sea bottle, but how they use it remains to be seen," Murphy concluded.

"This is an example of why great powers really have to have a strong Navy. This is why Great Britain had a strong navy. This is why the United States has a strong navy, because there's so many regional powers who want to try to bottle up shipping, whether it is in the Strait of Malacca, whether it is in the Strait of Hormuz, and here, in this case, in the Red Sea."

"I think what we're going to see in the next several days and weeks is a coordinated effort by the Trump administration to make sure our allies are on board in helping us keep these critical waterways open, free, and clear for freedom of navigation," he said.

Ben Shelton loses in US Open final to Zverev, but America has found its next big men's tennis star

Let’s get the obvious part out of the way immediately: This stinks.

Ben Shelton had a chance to end a 23-year Grand Slam drought for American men’s tennis on Sunday afternoon in New York. Instead, Alexander Zverev beat him 6-3, 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-2 to win the U.S. Open and capture his second Grand Slam title of the year.

American men’s tennis missed a golden opportunity, but Shelton gave America a tennis star worth rooting for.

It's not the same as winning, but it's a major positive step for a country desperate to find the next great American player.

Ben Shelton’s nerves cost him in the U.S. Open final

Shelton, making his first career Grand Slam final appearance, looked nervous from the start. The first game told us exactly what kind of afternoon this might be.

He committed two errors to give Zverev an immediate break point, then double-faulted to hand over the break in the first game of the match. Shelton double-faulted again on set point to drop the opening set, 6-3.

The second set played out on even terms until the tiebreak, which is where Shelton’s game fell apart. Zverev raced to a 5-0 lead and took it 7-2.

Zverev wasn’t blowing Shelton off the court, which is what made the match so frustrating to watch. Shelton kept getting into winnable points on Zverev’s serve, only to miss a forehand, dump a backhand into the net or choose the wrong shot at the wrong moment.

For most of the match, Shelton looked like the more gifted player. His power, athleticism and creativity are fun to watch. The 23-year-old American produced most of the shots that made the crowd gasp and his serve regularly crossed 140 mph. His flashes of greatness showed that he's much more than another American man with a big serve.

But the inconsistency killed his chances to win his first Grand Slam title.

Zverev didn’t need to be spectacular. He served well, kept the ball in play and waited for Shelton to crack. Steady isn’t particularly exciting, but it wins Grand Slam finals when the guy on the other side keeps giving away points. And Zverev's win at the French Open earlier this summer gave him a crucial edge in experience that showed up throughout the match.

Still, Shelton didn’t go quietly.

He finally earned his first break point of the match with Zverev serving at 2-3 in the third set, but the German erased it. Shelton kept holding, waited for another chance and pounced with Zverev serving at 5-6. He jumped ahead 0-40 and converted his second set point when Zverev missed a routine volley.

So, Shelton had life.

Then he immediately put himself in trouble again. Shelton led 30-0 in his opening service game of the fourth set before a double fault and another forehand error opened the door. He saved one break point with a gutsy serve-and-volley play, but Zverev eventually broke and never gave it back.

That was essentially the match. Zverev broke Shelton again at 4-2 before serving out the match in the final game. There was a funny moment at the very end, as Zverev didn't realize he had just won the U.S. Open.

After a Shelton return went long, Zverev appeared to think there was more tennis to play. He went to serve again before realizing the match was over and he was the champion. At that point, a huge smile crept over his face and he threw his arms in the air.

On the other side, a clearly frustrated Ben Shelton appeared to be holding back his emotions as he went to shake his opponent's hand.

American men’s tennis let the opening slip away

This was the opportunity.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner withdrew prior to the tournament because of a knee injury. Novak Djokovic lost in the first round. Shelton stunned defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set quarterfinal that ended at 3:33 in the morning.

The three biggest obstacles were gone and Shelton was responsible for eliminating one of them.

Zverev was hardly an easy opponent. He won the French Open in June, reached the Wimbledon final and entered Sunday having beaten Shelton in all five of their previous meetings.

Now the 29-year-old owns two major championships.

Over the past 30 years, only seven other men have won multiple Grand Slam titles in the same calendar year: Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Sinner.

That’s elite company.

Zverev’s off-the-court legacy is more complicated. He has faced domestic abuse allegations from two former partners, both of which he has denied. The ATP closed an investigation into one set of allegations in 2023 after finding insufficient evidence to substantiate the claims, and a German court closed a separate case in 2024 after a settlement with no finding or admission of guilt.

On the court, there’s no longer any debate about whether Zverev can handle the final Sunday of a major. He proved it in Paris and did it again in New York.

But this was still a winnable final for Shelton. Since Andy Roddick won the 2003 U.S. Open, American men have gone 0-for-7 in Grand Slam finals. Roddick accounted for four of those losses, while Andre Agassi, Taylor Fritz and now Shelton each fell once.

American men’s tennis couldn’t have asked for a clearer path to ending the drought. It still couldn’t finish the job and, because of that, it's a failure.

Ben Shelton made this run about America and God

Of course, ESPN immediately tried to turn Shelton’s run into a story about race.

"It’s more than just Ben Shelton’s first U.S. Open Final," the network posted after his semifinal victory.

ESPN then noted that Shelton was the first Black American man to reach the U.S. Open final since Arthur Ashe in 1972. That’s historically accurate.

But Shelton never made this run about his skin color. The media wanted to put him in that box, and he didn’t follow them there.

He’s an American. That’s what mattered.

Shelton has consistently used his platform to talk about his Christian faith, his family and his country. After winning in Australia earlier this year, he signed a television camera with the message, "USA ’til it’s backwards."

After beating Alcaraz in the biggest victory of his career, Shelton immediately pointed to his faith.

"I’m just so grateful, so blessed. God’s blessed me in so many ways," Shelton said.

He made a similar point after winning in Montreal earlier this summer, saying, "I would be nowhere without my faith. That’s what’s most important to me."

Then came Friday’s semifinal against Frances Tiafoe, played on the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Shelton spoke about the sacrifices his parents made and dedicated the victory to his late grandmother. He asked the New York crowd to return for the final because, as he put it, "We’re going for it here."

"Do this for the USA," Shelton said.

Before leaving the court, completely unprompted, Shelton offered his thoughts and prayers to the families affected by 9/11 and called New York one of the greatest cities in the world.

That’s the guy America has watched for the past two weeks.

He’s powerful, emotional and wildly entertaining. He also loves his family, talks openly about God and treats representing the United States as an honor, not a burden.

Now, let’s not pretend losing a Grand Slam final is the same as winning one because it isn't. Ben Shelton will be the first one to say that, too. He had the chance American men’s tennis had been waiting more than two decades to get, and he didn’t finish the job.

But Shelton’s tournament was still a massive win for him and for American tennis.

He beat Carlos Alcaraz and reached his first Grand Slam final. He had a chance to give up against Zverev, but he kept fighting and forced a fourth set. He showed the composure, faith and love of country that make American sports fans want to invest in a player.

The 68-year-old "Rocky" star was all smiles as he and Krokdal, 30, attended Arnold Schwarzenegger's All-Stars for Change charity event at Novikov Beverly Hills on Friday night.

Lundgren sported a black suit, a white dress shirt and gray sneakers while Krokdal wore a black one-shoulder chiffon top which she paired with a black asymmetrical satin wrap miniskirt, beige sequinned peep toe heels and a burnt orange satin clutch.

The couple, who tied the knot at their villa in Mykonos, Greece, in July 2023, beamed while posing for photos at the upscale Italian-Mediterranean restaurant.

The fundraiser benefited After-School All-Stars, a national nonprofit providing free after-school and summer programs for youth that Schwarzenegger founded in 1992.

On Saturday, Lundgren shared a photo of himself that was taken at the fundraiser on Instagram.

"A big thank you to Novikov Beverly Hills and Hard Cut Vodka for a fantastic event supporting my good friend Arnold Schwarzenegger’s charity, After-School All-Stars.," he wrote in the caption.

Lundgren and Schwarzenegger have been close friends and workout buddies for over 40 years. Shortly after they met, Stallone cast Lundgren as the iconic Soviet boxer Ivan Drago in 1985's "Rocky IV." Stallone served as Lundgren's mentor and trainer while he was training for his role in the hit sports drama.

Jeremiyah Love’s NFL career started off on quite the high note during the Arizona Cardinals’ Week 1 match-up against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Love immediately became one of the highest-paid running backs in the NFL when the Cardinals took him third overall back in April out of Notre Dame.

As a result, the expectations were quite high for Love given his draft stock, which tagged him as one of the faces of not just the franchise’s future, but the league as a whole.

Love and the Cardinals took the field at SoFi Stadium as underdogs against the Chargers, but an opening drive by quarterback Jacoby Brissett and Arizona’s offense led to a red-zone opportunity that their new running back didn’t squander.

Arizona, which was a 10-point underdog, defeated the Chargers 26-14.

On second-and-goal from the Chargers’ 5-yard line, Love got the handoff from Brissett, bounced out to his left, and found a lane to the left pylon and didn’t lose sight of it. Love outraced the Chargers' defender closing in on him, and he scored his first career touchdown in a statement drive from the Cardinals to begin the season.

Love finished with 41 yards on 11 carries.

First-year head coach Mike LaFleur was visibly enthusiastic after the 70-yard opening drive, joining his players in celebration, Love among them. It’s hard not to love (no pun intended) what this dynamic running back can bring his offense in 2026 and beyond.

The Cardinals caught some flak for the pick of Love when they put in their ticket in April. Arizona is a rebuilding team, one that fired ex-head coach Jonathan Gannon and hired LaFleur with the goal of getting the team back on the right track.

With a pick of Love at third overall, it signaled to some that the Cardinals believed they were one offensive weapon away from competing for a playoff berth. On the other hand, the Cardinals need more playmakers on both sides of the ball, and Love did just that during his stellar collegiate career for the Fighting Irish.

Love dealt with an ankle injury throughout training camp, too, which begged the question of how much he’d play for LaFleur in Week 1. Love split carries with veteran Tyler Allgeier, whom Arizona brought in this offseason as a free agent acquisition.

That should be expected for the Cardinals to at least begin the season, with Love and Allgeier sharing the backfield. However, it’s clear that Love’s explosive abilities are there for the Cardinals, and he made his presence known right away in Week 1.

Josh Allen torches one of NFL's best defenses to make case it's time to move on from 2025 playoff loss

Josh Allen finished last season in tears and the sight of one of the NFL's great players sobbing in the Buffalo Bills locker room after a playoff loss to the Denver Broncos led ownership to fire head coach Sean McDermott. That memory of that scene and the burden it put on Allen was buried on Sunday.

Josh Allen played sensationally against the Houston Texans in a stirring 36-31 game this day. And this means stuff:

It means new Bills coach Joe Brady won his head coaching debut.

It means the Bills have just sent the NFL the message that they remain a Super Bowl contender for 2026 because, well, the Texans team they just beat are a Super Bowl contender.

And it means Josh Allen has already joined the MVP race in earnest after he exorcised the ghosts of his horrible postseason performance and that loss which haunted all offseason.

Allen also made the statement that he can indeed play up to his standard even against the Texans.

"We do like Reliant Stadium, woo-hoo!" Allen exclaimed after the game. "It feels good. It feels good to start the season off right. Obviously coach Joe getting his first win as an NFL head coach ... really happy for him. [He] called a heck of a game."

The Texans had dominated Allen in five previous games. The Texans won four of those and limited Allen to 196 passing yards per game.

Not this game.

Allen played up to his billing this time. He played like he's one of the league's best players.

He passed for 334 yards and two touchdowns. And he rushed for two touchdowns. Allen was in some way responsible for all four of his team's touchdowns, by either running or passing for them.

Amid all those numbers, Allen tried to put the focus on others.

"It's the players that we got, man," Allen said in his postgame interview with CBS.

"Looking down at these stats, man, our guys made some great plays."

Don't believe Allen. He delivered superstar stuff against the defense that was the NFL's best against the pass last year and was second-best in points allowed behind only the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

Translation: Houston dominates on defense.

And Allen dominated Houston as the Bills scored the most points that defense has allowed since 2023.

"We scored 36 points against a fantastic defense," Allen said. "However you get to 36 points in the NFL, you'll take that any other week. As long as it's more than the other guys."

Allen smiling and joking after this game is quite a different snapshot than the one we got from him in his previous game – that playoff loss to the Broncos. Allen turned the ball four times in that fateful game.

He fumbled twice, and threw two interceptions, including interception that set up the Broncos' game-winning drive.

Allen hasn't said he lost that game for the Bills, but he has taken responsibility for it. And whether he did lose it or not, the NFL narrative that Allen couldn't get his team into the Super Bowl grew.

It's impossible to make the case this was a big game on par with the playoffs. But in recording his 26th game-winning drive in the fourth quarter or overtime – the most in the league since 2018 – Allen reminded everyone that he's over that past disappointment.

And in this new season he gets another shot at the Super Bowl.

President Donald Trump slammed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for appearing to laugh during the solemn reading of victims’ names at the 9/11 Memorial, calling their behavior "terrible" and "inappropriate."

"I think it’s terrible," Trump said when asked about the video of the two Democrats. "It’s not a place to be laughing, especially in that case."

"I thought it was terrible," he continued. "The fact that they were laughing together at a very important part of the ceremony was inappropriate."

The president’s condemnation came after video of Ocasio-Cortez and Mamdani sharing what appeared to be a lighthearted exchange at Ground Zero sparked widespread criticism online.

The moment unfolded as mourners read aloud the names of those killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing during ceremonies marking the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the 2001 attacks.

The video quickly spread across social media, where critics accused the pair of showing disrespect on one of the nation’s most solemn days.

"After thousands of families of victims of terror beg Mamdani not to show up, he stands there and laughs while families weep," Vernikov wrote. "This is NYC’s Mayor."

Mamdani had already faced opposition from some victims’ families ahead of the ceremony. A petition urging him to stay away from Ground Zero gathered more than 110,000 signatures, though Mamdani attended and remained for the ceremony.

However, Michael Ragusa, who has served as a member of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s entourage, disputed claims that Mamdani and Ocasio-Cortez were joking about the ceremony.

"The videos of [them] laughing are not true. I was standing next to them the whole time," Ragusa wrote on X.

Kyler Murray knocked out of Vikings debut after forearm to the helmet and blow to neck by two Packers

That start of Kyler Murray's career with the Minnesota Vikings has been a disaster.

That might be understating the matter.

The team's new starting quarterback threw an interception on the second play of the regular-season opener. It was his first pass in a Vikings uniform.

At home, no less.

Then Murray got knocked out of the game on his team's third possession.

Murray, signed by the Vikings in the offseason as their next major quarterback project, did not make it out of the first quarter on Sunday.

Murray left the game and underwent a concussion evaluation. He was listed officially as questionable to return, though the severity of the hit made clear to those watching that his day was over.

The Vikings eventually ruled Murray out.

"Definitely, thinking about Kyler," Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson said, "Definitely prayers out to him. Definitely don't want to see one of our brothers go down with that type of injury."

Murray was scrambling when he took a forearm to the helmet from Packers defensive end Lukas Van Ness, but that wasn't all.

As Murray collapsed in a heap, he took another blow from safety Javon Bullard around the neck and head area, causing Murray's helmet to fly off.

And he seemed to go into a fencing response position, which is an involuntary body posture where an injured person extends one arm rigidly and flexes the other into the air for several seconds after a blow to the head.

Bullard drew a personal foul for unnecessary roughness. Murray was ultimately able to walk off the field and make his way to the locker room without assistance.

Carson Wentz took over for Murray after the play, and led Minnesota to a 39-22 victory.

Murray will enter the NFL concussion protocol. That means he will be tested, and independent physicians will determine when he can eventually return to play.

For a player experiencing his first concussion, the standard return-to-play timeline is roughly two weeks, though absences of one week or three weeks are not uncommon.

Coach Kevin O'Connell said afterward he saw Murray and the quarterback "seemed to be doing pretty well, but I wouldn't medically quote me on that."

So, yes. It's been a terrible start to the season, and his Vikings career, for Murray.

Lions avoid franchise-worst collapse as defense stops Saints two-point conversion in OT

The Detroit Lions needed overtime and a moment of stellar defense to avoid a franchise-worst collapse against the New Orleans Saints to begin their 2026 NFL season.

What appeared to be a comfortable path to a Week 1 win became a contested, back-and-forth affair, with the Saints pushing the game to overtime after Juwan Johnson hauled in a touchdown with 1:07 remaining in the fourth quarter.

The Saints almost completed the 21-point comeback when kicker Daniel Carlson tried to knock through a 62-yard field goal at the buzzer, but he was wide right to force the first overtime game of the new campaign.

But just like it was in the second half, the Lions and Saints both traded touchdowns, as Amon-Ra St. Brown scored to open up the extra period, while tight end Noah Fant caught one on the other side of the field on the ensuing drive.

The difference? New Orleans head coach Kellen Moore didn’t feel like tying the score anymore. He was going for the win with a two-point conversion.

After an 80-yard drive, the Saints wanted to walk it off with the victory, but the Lions’ defense came through when they needed it most. A three-man stack of receivers broke off for the Saints when the ball was snapped and quarterback Tyler Shough threw it up for rookie Bryce Lance, but the pass was broken up to the delight of everyone inside Ford Field in Detroit.

The Lions celebrated their hard-fought victory, but it shouldn’t have been that close if you ask them.

If Detroit lost, their 21-point lead would’ve been the biggest in franchise history that they gave up in a defeat. So, this group, which has high hopes out of the NFC North this season, is happy not to be on the wrong side of history.

Things were going well for the Lions until Shough and company, who struggled throughout most of the game, finally got on the scoreboard in the third quarter with a touchdown by running back Kendre Miller. From there, the Saints put together three more scoring drives, including a touchdown grab by Devaughn Vele and a field goal from Carlson.

The Lions will hope to clean up things defensively, but offensively, it’s clear as day what Jahmyr Gibbs can do, especially with an extra workload, now that David Montgomery is no longer in Detroit.

The star running back finished the game with 156 yards rushing with two scores on the ground, while hauling in five of Jared Goff’s passes for 30 yards. Gibbs turned 34 touches into 186 scrimmage yards, and that’s what many are expecting each week from one of the most explosive and dynamic offensive weapons in the sport each week.

Meanwhile, Shough threw for 410 yards on 35-of-56 through the air, though he was intercepted twice by the Lions’ defense. Chris Olave, his top target, finished the game with 10 catches for 182 yards.
