Mountain lion caught on camera evading capture in San Francisco before being tranquilized, released

A mountain lion evaded capture for several hours in San Francisco on Friday after it was spotted in the busy Sunset District, the city's largest neighborhood.

Officials, including police, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, animal control, and the San Francisco Zoo, surrounded the animal in Outer Sunset and eventually tranquilized it.

It was later released back into the wild.

Animal Care & Control shared a couple of videos of the cougar getting out of its crate later in the day and heading back into a wooded area.

The mountain lion was wearing a collar which it didn’t previously have.

"We're happy to report that our mountain lion visitor has been released back to the wild by our friends at the California Department of Fish and Wildlife," the organization wrote on Facebook.

Sorority alumnae take legal fight to federal court after being 'given a brother' instead of sisterhood

Sorority alumnae returned to federal court Monday, asking judges to revive their lawsuit against Kappa Kappa Gamma after they alleged the sorority's national leadership improperly allowed a chapter to admit a transgender woman.

Plaintiff Allie Coghan told Fox News Digital that while she has since graduated, she hopes the appeal will establish a clear legal precedent that protects single-sex private spaces and keeps national organizations from overriding local member consent.

"We were promised a sisterhood, and we were given a brother," Coghan said. "If Kappa wants to redefine the word woman to include men in the definition, that's fine, but they have to go through the proper procedures to do so and allow members to vote, which they did not."

The legal fight stems from 2022, when transgender student Artemis Langford was allowed to join the University of Wyoming chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Coghan said despite reservations from her and other sorority sisters, Langford was admitted into the sorority.

Coghan said the chapter did not follow its normal voting procedures during the process. Instead of using what she described as the chapter’s traditional recruitment app, Coghan said members were required to submit non-anonymous Google Forms attached to their email addresses.

"They were knocking on girls' doors asking for proof that you had voted," Coghan said, adding that officers told members they would be labeled "transphobic" if they voted against membership.

Coghan said that, despite attempts by members and parents to contact the organization’s national leadership, executives did not answer phone calls and eventually stopped answering emails. She and several of her sorority sisters ultimately launched a legal challenge.

The initial lawsuit was dismissed by U.S. District Judge Alan B. Johnson, who ruled that Kappa Kappa Gamma, as a private organization, could interpret its own membership requirements. However, the alumnae, supported by the Independent Women's Law Center, appealed the ruling to the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which heard oral arguments in Denver Monday.

"It was very surreal to be back. I mean, we were in college. We just wanted to be sorority girls, finish our degrees, graduate, go out into the real world," Coghan said.

"I remember when I was trying to decide if I wanted to sign my name on this, asking the lawyer, am I [going to] be married with kids before there's any sort of resolution? And he just kind of laughed at me and said, ‘I guess it depends on how soon you get married.’ Well, I actually just got married two weeks ago," she added.

Coghan described the situation in school as toxic and said the sorority house became a "political war zone." She said that while Langford did not live in the house, the student was granted 24/7 access to the living quarters and common rooms, including an area young women needed to walk through to get to the showers.

"The entire dynamic of the house completely shifted. It became a political war zone," Coghan said. "You would see him sitting in the common rooms upstairs, and girls have to walk past those rooms to get to the shower. We don’t have a space to undress to get into the shower, so you would just walk in your towel and go take a shower and come back."

While Coghan has since graduated, she said a sense of duty to younger women keeps her involved in the case and seeking a resolution in the courts.

"I don't understand how the feminist movement has shifted so much that it's no longer pro-women, it's pro-woman erasure," Coghan said.

"I hope that it will really set a standard of woman means woman. Woman does not mean man who thinks he is woman. Woman is not up for interpretation. A woman is an adult human female," she later added.

Coghan and her fellow plaintiff, Hannah Holtmeier, also spoke on the "Riley Gaines Show" podcast, discussing the moment they said their chapter president told them that if they didn’t like the change in their house, they were welcome to drop out of the group.

"She basically told us, 'If you don't like it, your values don't align with Kappa's, and you can drop,'" Holtmeier told Gaines. "Being told that, 'If you don't like it, you can drop' and not live in a house that I had called a home for already a year and a half was absolutely mind-boggling to me."

She echoed Coghan’s comments about conditions in the sorority house, saying women would sometimes act as lookouts for one another when they were in the shower to ensure the hallway was clear.

"It was to the point where girls would have like a lookout basically when they're in the shower. They would text their roommate, say, ‘Hey, I'm coming back,’ and they would have to clear the hall," Holtmeier said.

"It was definitely an unnerving feeling in those intimate spaces, especially upstairs when that's where our showers were."

The recent oral arguments before the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver represented a new phase in the legal battle. The three-judge panel is considering whether to overturn the lower court’s dismissal and revive the breach of contract lawsuit.

The plaintiffs argued the national leadership of the group could not legally redefine core membership terms, including what constitutes being a "woman," without a formal vote from the organization's members or an amendment to its bylaws. The appeals court’s ruling will determine whether the lawsuit remains dismissed or is allowed to move forward.

Cuba experienced a total power failure Friday, according to the U.S. Embassy in Havana.

The embassy said the failure was due to the "collapse of Cuba’s electrical grid."

According to Cuban regime media, the reason for the collapse is under investigation and the timeline to restore power is unknown."

"All U.S. citizens in Cuba or planning to travel to Cuba should be aware and plan accordingly. There are reports of cellphone and internet outages," the embassy added, noting that Cuba’s electrical grid is "increasingly unstable," which has led to "multiple" nationwide power outages in the last few months.

Yankees star Aaron Judge heads back to injured list weeks after returning from broken rib

As the New York Yankees make a final push for October baseball, slugger Aaron Judge is likely to miss most of the remaining regular season.

The Yankees announced Friday that they plan to place Judge on the 10-day injured list with a right calf strain. The move can be backdated to Thursday, which would make the three-time American League MVP eligible to return for the Yankees’ regular-season finale Sept. 27.

Judge has appeared in just 66 games this season after playing more than 150 games in each of the previous two seasons and winning back-to-back American League MVP awards in 2024 and 2025.

Why the House let out early is a matter of debate after Johnson says chamber has 'done its work'

It’s a matter of debate as to why House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., sent the House home a day early this week. This is in addition to the House lopping off two additional weeks from its schedule later this month and into early October.

"We're going to modify the House schedule by a day. And let me explain to you why. The House has done its work," Johnson said as House members fled Capitol Hill early Wednesday night. "House Republicans are going now back to our districts. We're going to make the case to the American people on what we have delivered on their behalf."

The House isn’t scheduled to reconvene until Nov. 9, just after the midterms.

But outgoing Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., believes there’s a different reason Johnson cut everyone loose early. The Kentucky Republican introduced eight articles of impeachment for Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth. Because Massie’s push for impeachment is "privileged," the House had 48 hours max to consider the articles.

"I figured out why we canceled tomorrow," Massie said. "Tomorrow would be the vote on impeaching Secretary of Defense Peter Bryan Hegseth. And it looks like that vote's not going to happen."

A senior House Republican leadership source insisted to Fox last week that members would be on Capitol Hill "for a full week."

But, by Wednesday, the House had synced up with the Senate and passed the Russia sanctions bill. It OK'd legislation to protect consumers from high electricity and water bills associated with data centers, foisting the cost on tech companies. Yes, there were calls by bipartisan lawmakers that the House should remain in session to address intensifying concerns about AI. But the House was running out of floor traffic.

Except for Massie’s measure to impeach Hegseth.

REPORTER'S NOTEBOOK: HOUSE CONTROL COULD HINGE ON WHETHER THE OLD POLITICAL RULES STILL APPLY

Now you can determine for yourself why Johnson dismissed lawmakers a day early — to say nothing of the plan for the House to cut town two weeks sooner than originally planned.

But you can imagine what Massie thought.

"Exactly what I predicted," Massie said on the House floor. "Why did he just cut another day off the calendar?"

I found Massie off the floor after he concluded his speech.

"Do you think they adjourned the House because you have the votes on Hegseth?" yours truly asked.

"Chad, they cut two weeks off of the calendar to keep me from getting to 218 votes on the Epstein discharge petition. And then we came into this week, and I introduced eight articles of impeachment against Peter Hegseth, and they have 48 hours to vote on that," Massie replied.

"He cut off the day tomorrow to avoid the vote."

Here are the parliamentary mechanics.

The House was compelled to consider Massie’s impeachment articles if it met this past Thursday. Otherwise, the resolution covering the eight impeachment articles would expire. The 48-hour window associated with such privileged resolutions disappears. Sure. Massie could bring them up when the House next meets in November. But that is seven weeks from now.

But let’s say the House met on Thursday and was forced to bring up Massie’s impeachment articles. Republicans would likely have offered "a motion to table." This is an effort to kill Massie’s gambit. Thus, the vote would not have been on impeaching Hegseth, but whether or not to set aside Massie’s plan.

If the House voted to table Massie’s articles of impeachment, the gig is up. It’s done. The House never even considered the actual impeachment resolutions. The vote was one step removed from a straight, up/down vote on actually impeaching Hegseth.

But let’s say the motion to table was to fail? That means the House immediately skips to the articles of impeachment. The possibility suddenly exists that Hegseth could face eight impeachment votes even through there’s been no investigation. No committee hearings. No "process."

Nowhere does it say in the Constitution that Congress is required to wrestle with the usual parliamentary volutions to impeach someone. If a simple majority in the House votes to impeach you, you’re impeached.

Nuff said.

REPORTER’S NOTEBOOK: CONGRESS MEETS AI AS FEARS OF HUMAN EXTINCTION JOLT CAPITOL HILL

This is why Republicans likely would have moved to table Massie’s impeachment articles. A vote to table inoculates members from having to take a challenging vote on the underlying issue. Keep in mind that there are a number of House Republicans who are aggravated with Hegseth and beside themselves about the war in Iran. This vote would have put them in an interesting position, especially since many if not all Democrats may have voted to impeach.

So, I asked Massie the following about the motion to table.

"That would have put (members) in a tough spot. Or, if they had to vote on that, would it have passed?" I asked.

"A vote on a motion to table? He may not have survived that vote," Massie declared.

In other words, Massie believes the House could have defeated the motion to table. That would have triggered votes on actually impeaching Hegseth. And, from Massie’s standpoint, that’s why Johnson sent the House home.

You might remember that there was a bipartisan effort last summer by Massie and Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., to go around Johnson and deposit a measure on the floor, forcing release of the Epstein files. Johnson let the House out early for summer break then. Later, Johnson kept the House out of session for most of the 43-day government shutdown as the special effort to bring action on the resolution loomed.

The House voted to reopen the government in mid-November. And one of the first things the House did after that? Voted 427-1 to require a release of the files. The lone nay vote against releasing the files? Rep. Clay Higgins, R-La.

Even though there aren’t votes until early November, Massie is still a member of the House. He’ll be a member in the lame duck session through early January. Massie lost his primary to Republican Ed Gallrein, a candidate backed by President Donald Trump.

And Hegseth took the unusual step of traveling to northern Kentucky this spring to campaign for Gallrein.

It’s unclear if the Hegseth articles of impeachment will return late this fall or winter. But Massie is back. At least for a little while. And whether Johnson adjourned the House to prevent a vote on the impeachment articles will remain a matter of debate.

Hiker, 61, battles agonizing injury on grueling climb, resets dislocated shoulder himself

A 61-year-old hiker popped his own dislocated shoulder back into place during a hike on New Hampshire's Mount Washington and kept climbing.

Connecticut resident Kurt Siuzdak was hiking Mount Washington earlier this week when he sustained the painful injury after slipping on wet granite.

The news was reported by The Boston Globe Thursday, citing a statement Wednesday from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.

Siuzdak began hiking at around 4 a.m. Tuesday, according to the report.

Six hours later, at around 10 a.m., he slipped on a wet granite slab in a section called the Lakes of the Clouds.

During the fall, he dislocated his shoulder and injured his back.

About a mile and a half from the summit of Mount Washington, Siuzdak decided to keep going — slowly and steadily.

He was found by another hiker about five hours later.

Siuzdak told rescuers he planned to press on and "figure out his options" once he reached the summit, as the Globe noted.

When two officers hiked down to meet him at around 5 p.m., Siuzdak was still making his way up the mountain at a slow pace, officials said.

Flanked by the two officers, Siuzdak kept climbing.

He eventually reached the summit under his own power.

After being evaluated by emergency personnel, he asked to be taken to his car so he could drive himself to urgent care, the Globe reported.

At some point during the hike, Siuzdak managed to reset his dislocated shoulder himself, officials said.

In a statement, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department highlighted Siuzdak's preparedness.

The agency noted he had followed the agency's recommendations by packing extra gear, including warm clothing and a first aid kit.

"These items turned out to be much needed after his accident, and he was thankful that he had heeded the recommendations," officials said, according to The Boston Globe.

Paramount appears to learn from its 'Big Brother' racial double standard on 'The Challenge'

Three contestants were abruptly removed from MTV’s long-running athletic reality competition series "The Challenge" this week following a reported racial incident that the show chose not to air.

At the beginning of Wednesday’s episode of "The Challenge: Cutthroat," host T.J. Lavin entered the house without Leo Dionicio, Josh Goldstein and Nelson Thomas present.

"Leo, Nelson and Josh all broke the code of conduct here on 'The Challenge,' so they're all gone," Lavin told the remaining contestants.

The show did not air the incident that led to the three disqualifications or provide any additional details.

Page Six reported that Dionicio, who is Black, used the N-word during a game and Goldstein, who is White, repeated it. According to the report, Thomas became angry over Goldstein’s use of the word and later damaged the kitchen. Production then removed all three contestants.

The Paramount+ original is the 42nd season of the long-running MTV franchise. "The Challenge" is generally classified as reality television, but the modern version is built around athletic competition. Contestants run, swim, climb, wrestle, carry heavy weight and race through obstacle courses that test strength, endurance and mental toughness. Seasons typically end with a grueling final that can stretch across multiple days and resemble an adventure race more than a reality show.

The controversy also bears a striking resemblance to one Paramount faced three years ago on another reality competition show. The company appears to have learned from a racial double standard it applied back then.

Nelson Thomas and Leo Dionicio address 'The Challenge' disqualifications

Thomas subsequently confirmed at least part of the reported account.

"I let my emotions take over, broke dishes, destroyed [the] kitchen and violated the code of conduct," Thomas wrote on X. "That’s on me."

Thomas also claimed that Goldstein apologized to him privately and urged Goldstein to address the situation publicly.

"Saying you have Black friends doesn’t give you a pass to use the N-word," Thomas wrote.

Dionicio, meanwhile, discussed his removal during an appearance on fellow "Challenge" competitor Johnny "Bananas" Devenanzio’s "Death, Taxes and Bananas" podcast.

At the beginning of the discussion, Devenanzio said they had been instructed "from the top" not to reveal the specifics of the incident. Despite that, Dionicio argued that he did not deserve to be included in the mass disqualification.

"I was really, really upset because what was said was super ignorant," Dionicio said. "I thought the hand I was dealt was pretty messed up considering I didn’t really do s--- wrong."

Dionicio said he believed one contestant should have been fined, another should have been removed and he should not have been punished at all.

Johnny "Bananas" pushed back on Dionicio’s argument.

"I think what’s understood is that they have to have a rule, and it has to apply to everybody equally," he said.

Later in the conversation, however, Dionicio acknowledged that every contestant had signed the same agreement.

"I know we all signed the same contract," Dionicio said. "It’s just frustrating because I didn’t really think that would apply to me. But then I realized, you know, I’m not bigger than the program, unfortunately."

Dionicio never explicitly said, "I’m Black, so I should be allowed to use the N-word." But taken together, his comments strongly suggest that is his position. He reportedly used the word, said he did not believe the rule should have applied to him and then emphasized in a separate post on X that he is Black and Afro-Latino.

Paramount declined to discuss the specific actions that led to each contestant’s removal. A source familiar with the production said Bunim/Murray Productions has a clear code of conduct and that all three cast members were removed after violating it. The source directed OutKick to Thomas’ public comments about the incident.

The response did not confirm whether Dionicio and Goldstein were removed for using the same word or whether the same provision was applied to both contestants. But Paramount also did not dispute the reported account or challenge OutKick’s interpretation that the rule was enforced equally. Dionicio and Goldstein did not respond to requests for comment prior to publication.

Paramount faced a similar controversy on "Big Brother" in 2023

In August 2023, CBS removed "Big Brother" contestant Luke Valentine after he used the N-word inside the house. The network said Valentine violated the show’s code of conduct and that it had "zero tolerance" for the use of a racial slur.

Except, as OutKick reported at the time, another contestant, Kirsten Elwin, had used the same word days earlier and received no apparent punishment.

Valentine is White. Elwin is Black.

At the time, I wrote that CBS could not claim to have a zero-tolerance rule while applying different consequences based on the race of the person who violated it.

I wasn’t arguing that a White person and a Black person using the N-word carry the same social meaning because they don’t.

But a television production’s code of conduct is either a rule or it isn’t. If contestants are told that a particular word is prohibited, their skin color should not determine whether the rule applies to them.

CBS and MTV were both under the Paramount umbrella when the "Big Brother" incident occurred, just as they are now. This time, the company appears to have applied the standard equally.

Again, Paramount’s refusal to explain the disqualifications prevents us from saying that definitively. But the available reporting indicates that Dionicio and Goldstein used the same word and were both removed from the competition. Dionicio’s subsequent comments suggest he believed being Black should have changed how the rule applied to him.

If the reported account is accurate, production enforced the rule against everyone rather than determining who was socially entitled to violate its conduct policy.

Paramount deserves credit for apparently correcting the double standard it applied on "Big Brother" in 2023. Now it should be transparent enough to confirm that equal enforcement is exactly what happened.

Trump announces White House ban against three media outlets

President Donald Trump announced Friday that CNN, MS NOW and Politico will be banned from the White House.

"I am proud to announce that, effective immediately, I am banning Fake News CNN, MSNOW ... and Politico ... from the White House as a result of their constant 'reporting' FAKE NEWS!" Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

Trump doubled down on his announced ban while taking questions from reporters at the Oval Office, citing "cumulative stories" the three outlets have published over the years.

"You get sick of it," Trump said.

Past efforts by the Trump administration to ban outlets and individual journalists have been blocked by federal judges.

"I don't think that a court should allow fake news to be written day, after day, after day. I think that somebody has a right to keep them away," Trump said.

Fox News senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy said CNN was still broadcasting live from its tent on media row outside the White House, but a senior White House official told him top brass at CNN, MS NOW and Politico were being informed that their journalists cannot be on White House grounds beginning Saturday.

"CNN stands fully behind our White House team and their fair and accurate reporting," the network said in a statement on X. "We have a right under the U.S. Constitution to do that reporting without hindrance or interference from the government. Should the ban which President Trump threatened go ahead, it would be an illegal assault on that fundamental and constitutionally-protected right."

Politico also issued a statement, telling Fox News Digital, "Politico will continue to fairly report on this White House and future ones. We will vigorously defend our First Amendment rights against any attempt to restrict them."

Vice President JD Vance called out Democrats Friday, saying the midterms will be a referendum on "common sense versus pure unadulterated crazy."

While stumping in Iowa, Vance said Democrats are no longer "the party my grandparents grew up talking about."

Raised by a union steelworker, Vance said his father told him that "FDR’s Democrat party, that JFK’s Democrat party was the party of the workingman.

"In New York," he said, some of the midterm candidates are calling for the "total eradication of Western civilization. Somebody running for Congress in New York — and I promise I’m not joking about this — said that July Fourth is actually about the liberation of Palestine and Puerto Rico."

To loud boos, Vance said, "You could almost laugh about" the idea of Thomas Jefferson writing the Declaration of Independence and thinking about the liberation of Palestine and Puerto Rico.

Taylor Swift hasn’t publicly spoken out in support of close friend Ed Sheeran as controversy over Macklemore's removal has engulfed Sheeran's latest tour.

Sheeran has faced scrutiny from some pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel activists after his tour promoter and venues dropped rapper Macklemore from his Loop Tour after Macklemore’s onstage chants of "Free Palestine" earlier this month.

Groups, including StopAntisemitism and the Combat Antisemitism Movement called for Macklemore's removal, while singer Pink criticized Macklemore's performance.

It was during his opening set on the tour at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium when the Grammy-winning Macklemore also described Israel’s actions using terms such as "genocide" and "apartheid."

Since the dust-up, Sheeran released a statement addressing the situation, saying the decision to remove Macklemore was made by the tour’s promoters and venues, not by him personally. He also noted his desire to continue the tour and not let down fans or crew members who rely on his concerts for their income.

That was followed by four of his tour openers withdrawing from his concerts in solidarity with Macklemore, while also noting their own opposition to what they described as genocide in Gaza. Macklemore notably drew fierce criticism in 2014 when he donned what appeared to be an antisemitic costume caricaturing Jewish people, although he claimed it was unintentional.

As Sheeran has been navigating one of the most public controversies of his career, his longtime friend and collaborator Swift has been quiet, reflective of a career where she's generally, but not always, stayed out of political strife.

Plenty of other memorable moments have ensued between the two. When Swift won her first BRIT Award in 2015, she publicly thanked Sheeran in her acceptance speech, crediting him with teaching her about British culture and pubs. Sheeran has been known to appear at her concerts, one time dressed as a clown as he went onto the stage during one of her Nashville shows. Both artists have often described how they’re able to relate to one another because of the unique pressures they experience at their level of fame.

Swift’s reps are known for protecting the singer’s brand, and Swift has historically been selective about when she speaks out, but she has used her platform to advocate for some progressive causes in recent years, such as endorsing Kamala Harris and supporting gay rights. She also has tried to get more voters registered, including when she endorsed Harris in 2024.

In 2018, Swift criticized Republican Tennessee Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn over her conservative voting record and opposition to LGBTQ+ and women’s rights, instead endorsing her Democratic opponent, former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen.

She also described President Donald Trump as a poor leader during the COVID-19 pandemic and accused him of cheating to win.

Some who've worked in the entertainment industry think it's best for performers to remain quiet about politics, whether it's Macklemore, Swift or any other celebrity.

"My general feeling is they ought to stay in their own lane," David Sams, CEO of Sam’s Global Companies, a conglomerate of media networks and talent management, and former head of global marketing and creative affairs at King World, told Fox News Digital.

"It’s a lot of noise, and with everything going on in the world right now, to even give five seconds to their shenanigans is ridiculous."

Swift has also at times been criticized by the left for being insufficiently outspoken on issues.

Unsealed FBI interviews reveal Obama, Emanuel's discussions about Blagojevich Senate seat deal

Anyone who has a conversation with former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is likely to hear his claim that he was never going to sell the U.S. Senate seat vacated by former President Barack Obama in 2008, insisting his innocence in the high-profile case that led to him serving nearly eight years in federal prison.

Blagojevich has repeated for years that he was closing in on a deal to appoint Lisa Madigan to the U.S. Senate.

Hers is a name that has largely dropped out of the public arena. At the time of the scandal, Madigan served as Illinois attorney general. More relevant to this case, she is the daughter of the very powerful and entrenched then-Speaker of the Illinois House Mike Madigan.

RAHM EMANUEL WARNS DSA AGENDA DOESN'T PLAY WELL OUTSIDE 'UPPER WEST SIDE OF MANHATTAN'

The former speaker has since gone to prison for a separate corruption case. (Welcome to Illinois.) Blagojevich claims he would have appointed Lisa to the Senate in exchange for the father supporting his healthcare package and budget.

Shortly after the arrest of Gov. Blagojevich in December 2009, both President-elect Obama and his incoming chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, were interviewed by the FBI. Obama was interviewed Dec. 18, nine days after the governor was arrested. Emanuel was interviewed on the 20th. The records of those interviews were kept out of both criminal trials and away from the public, until now. Fox News has obtained the partially redacted FBI FD-302s of those interviews.

The Obama interview notes, "Obama was asked whether he was aware of Emanuel having a conversation with the Blagojevich administration regarding Lisa Madigan being considered for the Senate seat in exchange for legislation being passed.

"Emanuel would have been aware that Lisa Madigan was an acceptable candidate to Obama. Emanuel had an open line of conversation with the Blagojevich administration."

The Emanuel interview notes that, on Dec. 8, 2008, "(David) Axelrod and Emanuel went to see (U.S. Senator Dick) Durbin, D-Ill. In this meeting, they all agreed that Lisa Madigan would be a good candidate."

"As a result of this conversation, Emanuel contacted (Blagojevich Chief of staff, John) Harris and told him the merits of appointing Lisa Madigan as Senator."

The next morning, Dec. 9, 2009, just after 6 a.m., Blagojevich was arrested at his home in Chicago.

RAHM EMANUEL WARNS ‘BERNIE BROS’ COULD SINK DEMOCRATS BY SADDLING MODERATES WITH SOCIALIST AGENDA

Then-U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois Patrick Fitzgerald said, "Governor Blagojevich was arrested in the middle of what we can only describe as a political corruption crime spree. We acted to stop that crime spree."

"That just proves the Madigan deal was very much front and center. It was something I was about to do," Blagojevich said in light of the newly unsealed information. "There never was a crime spree that Mr. Fitzgerald, the U.S. attorney, said he was stopping to justify arresting a sitting governor in his home."

Other interesting notes from the interviews: President Obama initially wanted Valerie Jarrett to succeed him in the Senate. But he reversed his thinking early in the process, deciding "that he would like Jarrett to join him at the White House as a senior advisor."

However, "Emanuel was still interested in Jarrett taking the Senate seat rather than working in the White House."

Because, according to the Emanuel interview, "the fact that she is the president-elect’s best friend, having her on the White House staff would be awkward."

"Rahm’s a crafty, political, crafty, cunning and very effective political operator," Blagojevich chimed in. "He was interested in being closer to the king."

Eventually, according to the Emanuel interview, Obama became resolute.

"Obama told Emanuel he made a decision that Jarrett was going to the White House, and he was not going to reconsider this decision."

After that, a gaggle of familiar names entered the ring for consideration: Tammy Duckworth, and Reps. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., and Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Ill., who also went to prison for a separate case.

Then Obama, busy with establishing a new administration, stated, "He did not want to put his thumb on the scale."

Blagojevich ended up appointing Roland Burris to Obama’s vacated seat. Burris did not run for re-election.

Republican Mark Kirk won the seat in 2010 and was defeated by Tammy Duckworth in 2016.

Blagojevich served 7 years, 11 months in prison until President Trump commuted his sentence in 2020. Blagojevich received a full pardon in 2025.

Illegal immigrant rideshare driver charged with rape in Maryland had prior NYC sex abuse arrest

An illegal immigrant rideshare driver accused of sexually assaulting a teenage female passenger in Maryland has a history of sex abuse in New York, federal authorities said.

Abdoulaye Dia, of Lanham, Maryland, was charged with first-degree rape, kidnapping, second-degree assault and third-degree sex offense, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said.

On Tuesday, Montgomery County Police officers were called to a hospital where an underage teen girl reported a rape. She told police she was raped by an Empower rideshare driver.

RIDESHARE DRIVER ARRESTED IN ALLEGED SCHEME TARGETING IVY LEAGUE STUDENTS FOR SEX: PROSECUTORS

Dia, a citizen of Guinea, took her to a parking lot in Silver Spring, where the alleged assault occurred.

Investigators identified Dia through information obtained from the rideshare app. He was arrested Wednesday.

Empower told Fox News Digital that all its drivers undergo background, sex offender, motor vehicle, and Social Security traces. Furthermore, they are vetted against the same global watchlist used by Uber and Lyft, through the exact same screening provider.

"The background check, sex offender check, driving record check, social security trace, and global watchlist search on this customer were conducted on July 16, 2026 and did not reveal any incidents," the company said about Dia. "The Montgomery County Police Department reached out to Empower about this incident. Empower, as is our policy, asked law enforcement what Empower could do to assist their investigation and immediately provided all information requested."

Dia was previously arrested June 10 in New York City for sexual abuse by forcible compulsion, forcible touching of the sexual/intimate parts of another person, injuring a child less than 17 and sexual abuse without consent, a DHS spokesperson told Fox News.

Trump declares victory in historic deal with Greenland as he secures 'permanent' US military rights

FIRST ON FOX: President Donald Trump struck a sweeping agreement with Denmark and Greenland this week granting the United States permanent military rights on the strategically placed Arctic island.

The U.S. will now have permanent access, basing and overflight rights in Greenland and the ability to establish additional military installations as needed, according to a senior U.S. official who outlined the deal exclusively to Fox News Digital.

The deal bars China, Russia and other non-NATO countries from establishing military bases or maintaining troops in Greenland. It also restricts adversaries from investing in sensitive sectors that could pose a threat to U.S. national security.

"This historic deal is a huge win for the United States and the American people," Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Fox News Digital. "Thanks to President Trump’s vision and leadership, this historic agreement permanently guarantees U.S. security interests in the Arctic at zero cost to the U.S. taxpayer.

DENMARK VOWS TO DEFEND GREENLAND AFTER TRUMP REITERATES US SHOULD CONTROL TERRITORY

"Greenland will forever be part of the strategic defense area of North America and exclude any adversary from it and the surrounding area," Rubio said. "This deal permanently and completely addresses our national security concerns in Greenland.

The new agreement, which has no expiration date, stops short of transferring sovereignty over Greenland to the U.S. But administration officials still view its permanence as key to addressing the security concerns that drove Trump's push to acquire the territory in the first place.

"The difference here is we're not spending any money for the right" to expand the U.S. military presence, the senior official explained.

The deal is designed to remain in effect even if Greenland eventually becomes an independent country, they added.

"For over 100 years, Presidents have known the strategic importance of Greenland, but NONE of them were able to do anything about it. I am proud to be the President that permanently and conclusively addressed this very important situation. This is an "Infinite Life" Agreement, there is no end!" Trump wrote on Truth Social Friday.

Fox News Digital reached out to the governments of Greenland and Denmark for comment.

Trump had repeatedly argued that control of Greenland was necessary for U.S. national security, pointing to the island's strategic location in the Arctic as Russia and China expand their presence and capabilities in the region.

The deal significantly expands on the longstanding U.S. defense relationship with Greenland. The U.S. already operates Pituffik Space Base and has maintained military access to the island under a defense agreement dating back to 1951.

Under the new agreement, however, Denmark and Greenland would not have approval authority over additional U.S. military installations. The U.S. would consult with them but would have the right to build new installations when it determines they are necessary without needing their buy-in, the official said.

The administration believes an expanded U.S. military footprint in Greenland could eventually play a role in Trump's planned Golden Dome missile defense system.

"We will immediately begin the process of developing a large Military presence in the appropriate part of Greenland, of which there are many. We will work with the people of Greenland in its development and construction," Trump added.

The deal only allows the U.S. and its allies to make "sensitive investments" on the island, such as telecommunications infrastructure, undersea cables, ports and critical minerals.

The administration is seeking to prevent Greenland from becoming another version of what it sees as the strategic vulnerability that developed around the Panama Canal, where Chinese commercial interests have fueled U.S. concerns that ostensibly civilian infrastructure could have national security implications.

"We're never going to face that in Greenland as a result of this," the official told Fox News Digital.

Officials from both Greenland and Denmark, which holds sovereignty over the self-governing island territory, initially scoffed at Trump’s insistence that the U.S. must "own" Greenland.

But months of negotiations between Rubio, White House advisor Stephen Miller and officials at the State Department and National Security Council led to a deal that satisfied all sides, a second official told Fox News Digital.

Representatives from all three countries went through "various rounds of quiet negotiations that never leaked and never got out there" starting in February, as Denmark and Greenland came to see the agreement as serving their own security interests.

Pro-life vs socialism: GOP lawmakers divided over controversial guaranteed income programs

Although guaranteed income programs have faced partisan pushback nationwide since gaining national traction in 2018, a growing faction of conservatives is finding common ground with direct cash initiatives centered on mothers and newborns.

According to Tegan Lecheler, national program director for the Mother and Infant Cash Coalition (MICC), the "common-sense" nature of early childhood cash transfers has prompted conservative lawmakers and advocates to reach out to her organization in support.

"I think we're in a really polarized time politically right now," Lecheler told Fox News Digital. "We are not a political organization and want to work to improve families' outcomes. We believe an effective strategy for doing that is to build a big tent – a wide tent with a lot of people underneath it."

Lecheler noted that early childhood support aligns with pro-family conservative principles.

"Some of the solutions that we're putting forward really resonate with have been folks who agree that people should be able to have families that look the way they want," Lecheler said. "There are certain factions that are excited by the idea of cash transfers specifically within the period surrounding the birth of a child because it enables families to have the number of kids that they want to have."

Founded in 2023, the Mother and Infant Cash Coalition grew out of a broader movement toward direct financial support for young families. Lecheler, who previously managed operations with The Bridge Project — an unrestricted cash transfer initiative launched in 2021 that operates across 14 red, blue, and purple states — noted that momentum for direct cash assistance built rapidly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Advocates and researchers increasingly argue that flexible cash benefits offer a more cost-effective way to improve family stability than traditional, highly restricted in-kind welfare programs.

As direct cash initiatives expanded, organizations focused specifically on the perinatal period — from pregnancy through early infancy — began coordinating nationwide. That collaboration formed the Mother and Infant Cash Coalition, which aims to leverage early-childhood cash transfers to strengthen family stability and drive better maternal and child health outcomes. Member organizations include the Magnolia Mother’s Trust (MMT), launched in 2018, which provides selected Black mothers with $1,000 per month in unconditional cash for a full year.

Mayors for a Guaranteed Income, a coalition of over 150 mayors, bids to solve the affordability crisis with cash handouts. The coalition is responsible for over 100 pilot programs launched since 2018 and the establishment of the program in Cook County, Illinois, which was the first municipality to expand a guaranteed income program permanently.

Despite fierce national pushback against guaranteed basic income (GBI) programs — which opponents often criticize as "lottery socialism" — Lecheler stresses that conservative interest often stems from fiscal pragmatic arguments.

"There are other folks who are excited about it from sort of an efficiency angle, and think about this work because it is a lower administrative burden," Lecheler told Fox News Digital. "It is also more cost-effective to prevent poor birth outcomes like low birth weight or preterm birth than it is to respond to them after the fact."

GOP Divided Over 'Rx Kids'

The debate over early cash aid reached a flashpoint in Michigan over "Rx Kids," a citywide bipartisan initiative providing expectant mothers with a lump-sum payment of $1,500 during pregnancy, followed by $500 per month for up to 12 months post-birth. While Rx Kids is not a member of the Mother and Infant Cash Coalition, it operates on a similar direct-cash model.

Michigan House Republicans launched a formal inquiry into the initiative, which has absorbed more than $300 million in combined public and private funding. House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Jay DeBoyer, R-Clay Township, criticized the program's lack of oversight, arguing it functions as a "redistribution of wealth" that fails to solve systemic poverty without spending guardrails.

However, other Michigan Republicans view the policy through a pro-life lens. State Sen. John Damoose, R-Harbor Springs, publicly broke with critics to endorse the initiative.

"Helping moms and babies truly fits into the call of Jesus," Damoose wrote in an op-ed for the Detroit Free Press. "I believe in the sanctity of life. I believe we need to be champions for the unborn. That means more than just calling ourselves ‘pro-life’ — it means doing everything we can to make it easier for expectant moms to choose life. It means being there for families from the very beginning — and offering them the resources they need to thrive."

National Legal and Legislative Battlelines

Similar policy rifts are playing out nationwide as conservative lawmakers evaluate direct cash policies alongside conservative economic priorities.

"We have people from the right that have organically reached out to us to voice support," Lecheler noted, pointing to conservative support for policies like the Federal Child Tax Credit (CTC) and proposals to expand Child Care and Development Fund assistance.

A spokesperson for the Economic Securities Project (ESP), an organization that led the creation of more than 100 guaranteed income programs, told Fox News Digital that affordability is a growing issue among Americans, calling for the need of direct cash.

"Cash assistance is widely supported across party lines, and we see that with the proliferation of cash proposals at the federal level, continued support for different versions of the CTC, as well as promising pilots like Rx Kids and the ASCEND program in New Mexico," Shafeka Hashash, director of Cash Initiatives at Economic Security Project (ESP), told Fox News Digital.

"Growing concerns about the cost-of-living crisis and how AI will impact the workforce are also driving bipartisan support for cash."

Nevertheless, major state-level legal and legislative efforts to restrict or eliminate cash transfer programs continue in red states:

Texas: Attorney General Ken Paxton successfully sued Harris County over its "Uplift Harris" direct-cash pilot, leading the Texas Supreme Court to block the initiative and forcing the county to reallocate designated funds in June 2025.
Iowa: Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds signed House File 2319 into law, placing a statewide ban on all local guaranteed income programs.
Arizona: Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs vetoed Republican-backed legislation that sought to ban municipal GBI pilots across the state.

As of 2026, four red states — Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, and South Dakota — have enacted laws banning or restricting local guaranteed income and unconditional cash-aid programs. In addition, Kansas passed similar restrictive legislation when a bill became law without the governor's signature.

To date, Cook County remains the primary local municipality to enact a permanent guaranteed basic income program. For advocates like Lecheler, the policy push comes down to basic economic survival for young families.

"In the richest country in the world, I feel strongly that families shouldn't have to work three or four jobs just to keep food on the table," Lecheler said.

Olympic swimmer Réka György calls out Virginia Governor Spanberger for withdrawing female sports regulation

Hungarian Olympian Réka György, who lost a place in an NCAA swimming final after competing against transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, criticized Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s administration for abandoning a proposed regulation intended to protect female sports and private spaces.

György was one of three female swimmers who petitioned the Virginia Board of Health to enact the regulation last year. The board unanimously approved the petition under former Gov. Glenn Youngkin, but the regulatory action was withdrawn in July after Spanberger took office.

"It’s really sad for me because I had the petition filed a year ago, and Youngkin approved it and wanted to take the next step and protect female athletes and female spaces in Virginia," György told OutKick.

"I don’t like to see that people are using their power, especially political power, to make decisions and hurt other people. And also, it’s coming from a female."

György added that she was "really disappointed" by the decision.

György filed the petition in April 2025 alongside former Roanoke College swimmers Lily Mullens and Carter Satterfield. It asked the Board of Health to adopt regulations preventing biological males from participating on female-only athletic teams or entering female-designated spaces where women and girls could be undressing.

After receiving more than 2,300 public comments, the board voted 14–0 in August 2025 to begin the regulatory process. The Youngkin administration subsequently approved a Notice of Intended Regulatory Action, which was published that November.

SUPREME COURT MAKES RULING ON TRANS ATHLETES IN WOMEN'S SPORTS

However, the Spanberger administration withdrew the action on July 30, after an additional public-comment period had concluded. The withdrawal was not accompanied by an announcement from the governor’s office and was later published in the Virginia Register of Regulations.

The official notice said the State Board of Health would not proceed "upon review of statutory authority."

György questioned why the administration did not call greater public attention to the decision.

"I have a feeling that she’s afraid of the backlash of people, what they’re going to say or think," György said. "Other than that, I don’t know what her motivation is."

György’s advocacy stems from her experience at the 2022 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. The Virginia Tech swimmer finished 17th in the preliminary round of the 500-yard freestyle, one place short of advancing to the consolation final.

Thomas, a biological male who identifies as a transgender woman, qualified for the championship final and went on to win the national title.

"Because the rule-makers let him compete in the women’s category, I got bumped out from the final," György said. "I got 17th, and I wasn’t allowed to swim in the finals. It ended up being me who got knocked out of the finals at night."

György represented Hungary at the 2016 Rio Olympics and was a two-time ACC champion and two-time NCAA All-American during her career at Virginia Tech. She said she had devoted approximately 18 years to swimming before her final collegiate championship appearance.

"I put everything into swimming that I had," she said. "The 2022 NCAA Championships was my senior year in college, so I was ready to retire from swimming, but before I did that, give my best. I had everything that I was capable of putting into practices to prepare myself to give my best at that competition.

"And the chance to actually swim in the final was taken away."

György also recalled sharing a women’s locker room with Thomas during the championship meet.

"You were in just constant fear," she said. "You had no idea when he was going to enter the locker room."

György explained that putting on a high-level racing suit can take between 15 and 25 minutes, preventing swimmers from simply changing quickly and leaving.

"I was always looking behind my shoulder because I had no idea when my privacy was going to be robbed away," she said. "You try to cover yourself, which usually you don’t do because you are surrounded by other females and you don’t have that issue. But that competition was different."

The experience ultimately prompted György to become an outspoken advocate for sex-separated athletic competition and private spaces.

"I just had this feeling that I had to speak up because, obviously, the people who were in charge of that competition didn’t do anything to protect us females," she said. "One day, maybe I will have a daughter, and I don’t want my daughter to be in a situation where I had to share the locker room and compete against a male."

György, who continues to live in Virginia, joined the petition effort after being contacted about the controversy involving Mullens, Satterfield and the Roanoke College women’s swimming team.

In 2023, members of the team objected when a transgender student sought to join the women’s roster. Roanoke College later said the student had chosen not to compete.

György said she has not yet contacted Spanberger because she only recently learned the regulatory action had been withdrawn, but she plans to seek a conversation with the governor.

"I want to tell her that I hope she sees where I’m coming from," György said. "I hope she sees where other people are coming from when we are trying to protect little girls and females in sports and women-only spaces."

"Title IX was created for a reason," she added. "I really do hope that she is going to follow this rule, and she is going to stand up for women in Virginia."

Kyler Murray out with concussion so door opens for Carson Wentz as Vikings' new starter – perhaps for a while

The Minnesota Vikings and their quarterback hijinks are at it again, as Carson Wentz will start Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears because Kyler Murray remains in the concussion protocol and J.J. McCarthy remains at the back of the depth chart.

Coach Kevin O'Connell told reporters that Murray, who suffered a concussion in the regular-season opener against the Green Bay Packers, is still working his way back to health.

So, it's Wentz time again.

2026 NFL SEASON PREDICTIONS: DIVISION WINNERS, PLAYOFF TEAMS AND SUPER BOWL PICK REVEALED

We say again because the Vikings had Wentz starting last season in Weeks 3 through 8 when then-starter McCarthy was out with an ankle injury.

Wentz went down in Week 8 and that, as much as McCarthy's recovery, thrust the Vikings 2024 first-round back into the starting lineup.

And here we are again. With Wentz surprisingly being promoted from the No. 3 quarterback during training camp, to No. 2 ahead of McCarthy prior to last week's opener, then to the starter on Sunday at Chicago.

And all the while, McCarthy remains on the bench despite having been involved in a competition for the starting job against Murray.

This all suggests things:

It shows the Vikings promoted Wentz because they thought he was more experienced than McCarthy, yes, but also better.

That becomes clear because, again, it is Wentz starting ahead of a healthy McCarthy this weekend.

It also suggests Wentz has an opportunity going forward.

Wentz took over in the opener when Murray got knocked out of the game on the Vikings' third possession of the game. Murray was down for a time but eventually walked into the team's locker room for a concussion examination which came back positive.

The Vikings were trailing, 9-0, when Murray left and faced a 22-10 deficit with 2:08 left in the third quarter when Wentz threw a TD pass.

And then he threw another TD pass in the fourth quarter.

And the Vikings scored two other times as Wentz completed 12 of 19 passes for 133 yards with 3 TD passes and without a turnover.

So, Minny beat the rival Packers in dramatic comeback fashion.

O'Connell this week wasn't going to reward Wentz's role in that comeback win by benching him in favor of McCarthy.

But what if Wentz keeps playing well? What if he beats the Bears?

Would the coach bench the quarterback who helped his team get to 2-0 if Murray is ready to play in Week 3?

As ESPN noted, the starter change this week marks the 11th time the Vikings have flipped quarterbacks during a season in O'Connell's five-year tenure.

Yeah, not good.

A majority of those moves came in situations similar to what the team is facing now: An injury to a starter.

Last year, J.J. McCarthy started the first two games but injured his ankle and missed the next five games while Wentz played.

The "Wuthering Heights" star got her start on the Australian TV show "Neighbors" but had her big breakthrough in the 2013 film "The Wolf of Wall Street" alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.

NEW YORK, N.Y. — President Donald Trump is more comfortable on the job in his second term, according to a panel of journalists tasked with covering his every move.

Atlantic reporters Jonathan Lemire, Ashley Parker, Missy Ryan and Michael Scherer discussed what it’s like to cover the White House and other powerful institutions Thursday on stage during the magazine’s annual festival at Perelman Performing Arts Center in New York City.

"We’re seeing someone who completed, arguably, the greatest comeback in American political history. He trusts his instincts and very few others and is sort of an unfettered version of himself," Lemire said.

Lemire said Trump’s second administration is filled with "true believers" and "loyalists," while remnants of the "old Republican establishment" are long gone.

"He also is just more comfortable with the job and how to use the levers of power," Lemire said. "That also includes the relationship with the press and how he dictated change in terms of that relationship."

Parker said the presence of chief of staff Susie Wiles has helped, while deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller spent the four years out of power "plotting and planning" how to run a "bigger, stronger, faster, better, more ruthless" White House the second time around.

Scherer agreed, noting that Trump came back with a much clearer idea about what he can accomplish and how it would impact his legacy.

"I was in Dallas last week when he did the midterm convention. His message was, ‘Vote for me one more time,’" Scherer said.

"There's sort of a different, almost nostalgic approach he's taking to things," he continued. "But it is really about, like, ‘This is my last chance to do what I can to get to make my mark.’"

Ryan, who covers national security and foreign policy, isn’t thrilled that the Pentagon hasn’t held a formal press briefing for months, and staff writer Vivian Salama, who moderated the conversation, said it's harder for journalists to get scoops this time.

Scherer said the lack of leaks from inside the White House showed how it "operates as a unified body" under Wiles.

"The people under her are loyal to her. They're loyal to the president also, but it operates as a functioning organization," Scherer said.

"The first Trump term, there were three or four camps in that same space. They were often warring with each other and stabbing each other in the back and competing for the president," Scherer continued. "It's harder now. It's harder to get inside-the-room details than it was in the first term, but it can still be done."

By now, most of you are painfully aware of the game taking place in Oxford, Mississippi, this weekend between LSU and Ole Miss.

It's less of a game and more a national event, given the added stakes of Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin making his return to Vaught Hemingway Stadium for the first time since leaving the Rebels in the lurch to make his way to Baton Rouge.

There will be plenty of bad blood to go around for all parties involved, but this kind of "reunion" isn't entirely unprecedented.

Prominent head coaches will, occasionally, leave their teams on less than ideal terms, and when they make the return trip to the place they used to call home, it can get a little toxic.

With that in mind, I decided to take a look at a few other times head coaches made their way back to the schools that used to employ them and how those trips compared to Kiffin's welcome committee in Oxford.

2008 Alabama vs. LSU: Nick Saban's triumphant return to Death Valley

Before he became the unquestioned GOAT in the annals of college football, Nick Saban was a wildly successful coach at LSU in the early to mid-2000s.

After a pair of SEC Championships and a national title during his five-year tenure with the Tigers, Saban departed for the NFL, leaving many folks on the bayou feeling embittered and betrayed.

Following an unremarkable pair of seasons with the Miami Dolphins, Saban decided it was time to return to the college ranks, opting to don the headset at LSU's biggest rival, Alabama, in 2007.

Tiger fans would only have to wait one year before their former head coach made his way back to Death Valley, as the top-ranked Crimson Tide made their way to Baton Rouge to play 15th-ranked LSU.

The atmosphere around the game was tense and filled with anger and resentment toward Saban, and it didn't help that the Tide escaped with a 27-21 overtime win to effectively knock the Bayou Bengals out of the SEC Championship hunt.

Saban was given a police escort out of the stadium, and years later, the six-time national champion would call leaving LSU the biggest mistake of his career.

2006 South Carolina vs. Florida: The Swamp claims Head Ball Coach as its latest victim

Throughout the entirety of the 90s and into the early 2000s, Steve Spurrier and Florida football were synonymous with one another.

The Head Ball Coach won a Heisman Trophy in 1966 while quarterbacking the Gators, and when he returned to roam the sidelines in 1990, he fulfilled the prophecy of "awakening the sleeping giant" once uttered by Alabama legend Paul "Bear" Bryant.

Six SEC Championships and one national title later, and Spurrier figured he had accomplished all he needed to, leaving the friendly confines of The Swamp - the name he gave to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium - for an NFL coaching gig with the Washington Redskins in 2002.

Much like Nick Saban, Spurrier wasn't long for the pros, returning to the SEC in 2005 as the head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks.

This didn't sit well with a majority of Gator fans, seeing their visor-clad Messiah coaching an SEC East rival, and it made it even worse that he beat his old school in his first year on the job.

When Spurrier and the Gamecocks made their first trip to The Swamp together in 2006, a game with national championship implications for the home team had new stakes attached to it.

While the fans weren't openly hostile towards their former coach (most were even downright warm), it felt almost like watching a weird alternate reality simulation for those in attendance.

The game was an instant classic, with Gators defensive end Jarvis Moss blocking a potential game-winning field goal to preserve the 17-16 win for Florida, and keep their BCS title game hopes alive in the process.

Spurrier once said "only Gators get out alive" when referring to The Swamp, and that very phrase came back to bite him on that day in November 2006.

Yes, Lane Kiffin is no stranger to making his way back to old stomping grounds, as he had to do something similar just a few years ago.

When Tennessee hired Kiffin in 2009, the then-33-year-old was fresh off of a failed stint as the Oakland Raiders' head coach, and was looking to make a splash in the SEC.

A "splash" is putting it mildly, as Kiffin immediately went into prison survival mode and tried to pick a fight with the biggest guy in the pen, that being Florida and head coach Urban Meyer.

Kiffin ruffled feathers, accusing Meyer of recruiting violations and promising to "sing Rocky Top all night long" after beating the Gators in The Swamp, but after a year of empty promises and a 7-6 campaign, the brash offensive genius left for sunny Southern California to coach the USC Trojans.

Vols fans revolted, burning couches and rioting on campus, while Kiffin left under cover of darkness.

Flash forward to 2021, and Tennessee fans finally got their chance to let their old head coach know how they really felt in person, as the Rebels made their way to Neyland Stadium.

Kiffin had bounced around as an offensive coordinator and head coach at a few different stops before settling into Oxford to coach the Ole Miss football team, and a night game in Knoxville presented an opportunity for some madness.

The game was crazy enough on its own, as the two teams combined for nearly 1,000 yards of total offense and the Vols even had the ball trailing by only five with only a minute left in the fourth quarter.

A controversial review then led to a nearly 20 minute delay, as Volunteer fans chucked mustard bottles and golf balls onto the field, the latter of which allegedly hit Kiffin.

As he was being interviewed on the field following the win, Kiffin did his best George Costanza impression, presenting the very golf ball that struck him to a shocked ESPN audience watching at home.

The fact that this game took place nearly a dozen years after his departure did nothing to snuff out the anger Vols fans held toward their former head coach.

2022 Missouri State vs. Arkansas: Bobby Petrino rides back into Fayetteville

Here's one that a lot of people may have forgotten about, but it deserves mention all the same.

The first three instances on this list are comprised of coaches who decided to stay in conference and take jobs with rival SEC programs, but what happens when a coach who made an unceremonious exit just happens to be on the schedule by way of a cupcake matchup scheduled years before he even agreed to take the job?

For those who need a history lesson, Bobby Petrino coached the Arkansas Razorbacks in the late 2000s and early 2010s, even leading the team to a Sugar Bowl berth in 2010 and a top-five finish in 2011.

He was incredibly successful in the short time he called Fayetteville home until 2012, when he crashed his motorcycle with a former Arkansas volleyball player riding on the back.

This led to an investigation and, eventually, his termination from the university, ending a promising rise for the Razorbacks under Petrino.

A decade later, Petrino found his way back to Frank Broyles Field by way of coaching the Missouri State Bears, a lower-end FCS school.

Arkansas, conversely, was ranked in the top 10 and looked to improve upon their nine-win season in 2021 with third-year head coach Sam Pittman.

It appeared as though the Hogs were going to exact some revenge on their motorcycle-obsessed outcast, but, in a game that may have been a precursor to how the rest of the Pittman era would go, the Razorbacks needed to score 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to eke out a 38-27 victory.

Petrino would actually go on to be the offensive coordinator for Pittman just one year later, and would even be the interim head coach in 2025 when Pittman was given the axe.

They truly can't quit the one that got away in Fayetteville.
