Ex-Dem fundraiser torches Biden as book launch implodes: 'No one wants to read'

Lindy Li, a former top Democratic fundraiser, believes President Joe Biden is only doing himself a disservice by promising the public another explanation of why he decided to run for reelection in 2024 despite mounting concerns about his age and cognitive performance.

In her view, Biden’s upcoming memoir, titled "Promise Me, America," will only serve to reopen painful wounds that Democrats have struggled to move past since the 2024 election loss. In a way, she believes the book is a bit of a microcosm of Biden’s presidency itself.

"They’re thinking ‘why can’t you just shut the f--- up? Prior to me leaving the party, they wanted nothing to do with this guy. It was so bad that when, finally, Biden exited on July 21, there was no goodbye party other than a staffer one in the Rose Garden. There was nothing," Li said.

"Jill has him writing books that no one wants to read instead of fully enjoying his retirement," Li said, referring to Jill Biden, the former first lady.

"Just like she had him out running for president — a presidency that no one wanted, not even Democrats — instead of enjoying his retirement. He should have been in retirement 10, 20 years ago, but they need the money," Li said.

Biden described his upcoming book in a post to X on Wednesday morning.

"It’s about the challenges we face as a nation. About the decisions I made and why I made them," Biden said, igniting mockery on social media. "It’s about why I chose to run for reelection and why I chose to step aside."

"The first lie of Joe Biden’s book launch: ‘I’ve written a book,’" wrote conservative communicator Steve Guest.

"Joe Biden couldn’t sign his own pardons. Now he’s ‘written’ a book, which Democrats forced him to release after the midterms so he wouldn’t be in the news to remind people how bad he was," wrote Outkick founder Clay Travis. "Who in the world is buying this book?"

"Who do we think wrote this book," questioned Daily Wire editor-in-chief Brent Scher.

"Did the autopen write this too," Missouri Republican Rep. Jason Smith questioned.

Li, who is publishing a new book of her own titled "Unburdened" later this year, was privy to many of the party’s internal discussions, research, and panic behind the scenes, which indicated Biden enjoyed only shaky support even among his own camp long before he ultimately dropped out of the 2024 election.

In light of what she knows, Li doubts there is a way for Biden to spin his exit that won’t do further harm to his own image — an image his campaign went to great lengths to protect.

In one event, Li recalled how the Biden campaign confiscated her phone in a 2023 event.

"The [Democratic National Committee] was routinely confiscating the phones of top donors with social media followings," Li said, referring to a party fundraising and campaign group.

"They took away my phone because they knew I was a prolific tweeter. And I posted something on Instagram that night and a finance director from the DNC called me at around 10 or 11 that same night to instruct me to delete everything from Instagram about Biden that I posted that day.

"The reason is because [Biden] seemed infirm. He seemed weak," Li said.

Now on this side of his presidency, Li believes he will further aggravate Democrats who have wanted to move past the 2024 election and reignite questions of why Biden wasn’t asked to step aside sooner.

"It's very clear they were trying to hide the fact that instead of having a candidate they could be proud of, they were busy hiding a candidate that they were deeply ashamed of," she added.

Argentina stuns England with thrilling comeback to advance to World Cup final against Spain

Argentina, never say die.

Once again, the Argentines came from behind, this time against England, to win 2-1 in the World Cup semifinal and keep the dream of repeating as champions alive. Argentina was held off the scoresheet for 85 minutes, and finally broke through when Lionel Messi set up Enzo Fernandez just outside of the penalty box, and the 25-year-old hooked a shot around England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford into the back of the net to knot it at 1-1.

Lautaro Martinez then played the hero as he came off the bench and into Argentine soccer lore by scoring the winning goal in stoppage. In the 92nd minute, Messi recorded his second assist after he gathered a loose ball and played a beautiful pass into the penalty area, where Martinez was waiting unmarked. Martinez headed the ball past Pickford to send the Argentine fans into a frenzy as they completed the comeback.

England tried to tie it with the remaining stoppage time, but they were unable to muster up a quality chance.

The first half was largely uneventful, as it was the first game since 1966 in which neither team recorded a shot in the first half, according to the FOX broadcast.

Anthony Gordon got the scoring started when he buried a cross from Morgan Rogers to put England on the board first in the 55th minute with an acrobatic finish. Harry Kane sparked the counter with a long pass that left the Argentina defense flummoxed for the first time all game.

However, that would end up being the lone true scoring opportunity of the game for the Three Lions. After England got on the board, Argentina's pressure was relentless, but England was able to stave off the Argentine attack for about 30 minutes.

England defender Djed Spence made a fantastic tackle in the 58th minute to help keep Argentina off the board after a breakaway from Giuliano Simeone.

Argentina goalie Emilio Martinez came up big in the 66th minute by making his first save of the game on Declan Rice to keep the score 1-0 and avoid putting Argentina in a multi-goal hole. After the save, Argentina quickly countered and went back on the attack.

Pickford, England's all-time leader in games played at the World Cup, made a remarkable save on the goal line with a header from Nicolás González just before the hydration break to preserve England’s 1-0 lead.

Alexis Mac Allister kept the pressure on for Argentina when his header in the 76th minute rang off the post. Pickford made his fourth save of the game when he clipped Fernandez's shot in the 86th minute, but the Argentine broke through later in the minute.

Off a corner kick, Messi set up Fernandez just outside of the box, and the 25-year-old hooked a shot around Pickford into the back of the net.

Kelly Bensimon says she's lucky to be alive after horror head-on crash left her unconscious

Kelly Bensimon said she was "lucky" to be alive after a horror head-on crash sent the Uber carrying her and celebrity chef Andrew Molen spinning.

Bensimon and Molen detailed the terrifying moments after an oncoming vehicle slammed into the Uber carrying them, describing a violent impact that left the former "Real Housewives of New York City" star briefly unconscious and both hospitalized.

"I’m lucky to have walked away alive," Bensimon told Page Six.

"My right arm is a mess," the real estate agent added. "My head went straight into the back of the seat. It was really bad. I was unconscious for a couple seconds. I was freaking out. I thought I broke my arm."

The reality star said the violent impact left her disoriented and in agony.

While Bensimon focused on the injuries she suffered, Molen described the frightening chain of events that unfolded in the seconds leading up to the collision.

Molen recalled seeing the car coming at them and yelling, "brake, brake."

"[The other car] came straight on," Molen claimed. "You didn’t hear brakes screech. He came straight in at full blast. We got hit so hard. Kelly went flying. I hit the ceiling. Airbags went off. There was dust everywhere."

"Kelly was out cold. She kept falling back," he said, "The car spun."

The crash didn't just leave Molen shaken. He said it also sidelined him professionally, forcing him to cancel five events as he dealt with lingering pain from the collision.

"I am in a lot of pain," he said. "They had to help us into ambulances."

The crash came less than a year after Bensimon faced another frightening health scare.

The 58-year-old underwent a three-hour surgery to remove her breast implants after one ruptured. Doctors also tested her tissue for cancer, leaving her anxiously awaiting the results.

"It was a really, really difficult time," Bensimon told In Touch. "While you're resting, you're thinking, 'Do I have something? Am I going to be OK?'"

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar misses the point on Caitlin Clark and the face of the WNBA debate

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has every right to think A’ja Wilson is a better basketball player than Caitlin Clark.

A lot of people do, and I'm not here to argue they're wrong.

Wilson is a four-time WNBA MVP, three-time Defensive Player of the Year, eight-time All-Star and three-time league champion. There’s no argument that Clark’s professional résumé is as robust as Wilson’s.

But that isn't the same argument as saying Wilson is the "face of the league" and Caitlin Clark is not.

That's where Kareem is very, very wrong.

Abdul-Jabbar wrote on his Substack about the letter sent by 11 Republican lawmakers to the WNBA asking commissioner Cathy Engelbert to address the physical treatment Clark has received on the court. The letter called Clark "the face of your league," which apparently bothered Kareem quite a bit.

He called Clark "a very good, possibly even a great, player," but argued that labeling one player the face of the league without the "on-court and cross-platform dominance" of Michael Jordan or LeBron James is insulting to other great players.

OK, fine. But Kareem is leaving out some critical context.

LeBron James did not have LeBron James’ résumé when fans decided he was the face of the NBA.

LeBron was on the cover of Sports Illustrated as "The Chosen One" while he was still in high school. He entered the NBA with a massive Nike contract, national television attention and the full weight of the basketball world already on his shoulders before he played a single minute in the league.

He won Rookie of the Year in 2003-04, but he didn't win his first MVP until the 2008-09 season. He didn't win his first championship until 2012.

In other words, what on-court accomplishments is Kareem talking about? When James was in his third NBA season, as Clark is now, the commercial anointing had already happened, even though championships and MVPs were still years away.

The Cavaliers didn't make the playoffs in either of his first two seasons. Clark, meanwhile, helped a Fever team that had missed the playoffs seven straight seasons reach the postseason in her rookie year. And, like LeBron, she was the No. 1 overall pick in the draft and won Rookie of the Year.

So what exactly is the standard?

Kareem is using the finished version of LeBron to argue against the early version of Clark. That's convenient, but intellectually dishonest. The NBA didn't wait for LeBron to become a champion before treating him like the sport’s next great commercial engine.

Remember "The Decision"? LeBron had an entire television special dedicated to his free agency in 2010. What were his accomplishments to that point? Two MVPs and zero championships.

Now, two MVPs isn't nothing. But he had never won a title and had been swept in his only NBA Finals appearance. The season prior to "The Decision," LeBron's Cavs were bounced in the second round of the playoffs. And ESPN still turned his free agency into a television event, the only TV special anyone can name dedicated to one player choosing his next team.

Nike signed 18-year-old LeBron James to a historic deal worth a guaranteed $87 million over seven years before he stepped foot on an NBA court.

As for the fans, James' No. 23 Cavaliers jersey was the top-selling jersey during his rookie season and helped the NBA shatter its previous merchandise sales records.

The media, Nike and fans didn't wait for LeBron to pile up championships, MVPs and other accolades before anointing him "the face of the league."

Does all of this sound familiar? It should.

WNBA WANTS A BIGGER STORY THAN CAITLIN CLARK, BUT TV RATINGS KEEP POINTING BACK TO HER

Clark won WNBA Rookie of the Year and set the WNBA single-season assists record. She set rookie records for points and made threes. She averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists and 5.7 rebounds as a rookie.

Oh, and she easily led the league in jersey sales and boosted WNBA television viewership to levels it had never seen.

That doesn't make her Michael Jordan or LeBron James.

It also doesn't mean she is a better player than A’ja Wilson.

But "face of the league" is not the same as best player. It simply refers to the business reality.

And the business reality is obvious to anyone not trying desperately to pretend otherwise.

When Clark plays, people watch. Recently, she helped the league set a late-night regular-season viewership record, with Fever-Sparks averaging 1.04 million viewers across USA Network and CNBC for a game starting at 10 p.m. ET or later. That is the kind of audience the league could only dream about prior to her arrival.

That didn't happen because of A'ja Wilson, who has been in the WNBA since 2018. Clark helped a late-night regular-season game on cable draw more than one million viewers. Game 4 of Wilson’s 2022 WNBA Finals, when the Aces won their first championship, drew less than 400,000 viewers on ESPN

So Clark's Fever averaged more than two-and-a-half times as many viewers for a regular season game in mid-July starting at 10 p.m. ET as Wilson's team drew for the 2022 WNBA Finals clincher.

Clark is the one who brought millions more people into the tent. Thanks to Clark, far more people know who A'ja Wilson is today. It's not the other way around.

Tim Duncan won five NBA championships and collected two league MVPs and three NBA Finals MVPs. He was an excellent basketball player. But he was never considered the "face of the league."

Allen Iverson, a contemporary of Duncan, was a much bigger cultural force and has a stronger claim to "face of the league" in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Iverson won one MVP and zero championships. Except no one was complaining about Iverson being more popular than Duncan among fans. Everyone understood that it just happens sometimes.

That's why the blowback against Clark is so revealing.

There is a growing group of people who seem almost offended by the idea that Clark matters this much. They don't just want to argue that Wilson is better, they want to downplay Clark’s impact.

Let's return to Kareem's diatribe for a perfect example.

Kareem, like many in the media (and in the WNBA itself), tried to shift the conversation away from the abuse Clark is suffering on the court to the online abuse suffered by Black players. Recall that Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas, Fever coach Stephanie White and WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert all used the same tactic.

Thomas, who drove her fist into Clark's throat, immediately claimed she was receiving racial insults and death threats on social media. She did not publicly provide evidence of either claim in that immediate response. White and Engelbert quickly acted to condemn online trolling, but stayed mostly quiet about the actual incident on the court where Thomas flagrantly fouled Clark.

Another recent example involved Las Vegas Aces guard Chelsea Gray. She posted a message she received on social media that contained a racial slur.

Gray said she received the message after the Aces played the Fever, and Hilton Grand Vacations said the accused employee was no longer with the company.

Here's what Kareem wrote: "To the people in Congress and the commissioner’s office: take the constant, deliberate, and premeditated online abuse of players as seriously as you take the occasional incidents that occur on the court in the heat of the moment. We have systems in place for dealing with what happens to players during the game, but we need to get better at helping them when the games are over."

What, exactly, is Kareem's point here? That Congress should step in and stop people from hurling racially charged insults on the internet? That's a direct violation of the First Amendment.

Is he suggesting the WNBA should step in and start policing internet trolls? Good luck.

The league has infinitely more control over what happens between the lines than what happens on social media (where they have zero control). It controls the officials, the discipline, and the messages it sends to players in the league.

That's what lawmakers were asking about.

Kareem can disagree with the framing of the letter or even the value of sending it in the first place. He's certainly not alone.

But using DMs sent by trolls to minimize the on-court treatment of the league’s biggest star is a dodge.

And it keeps happening.

Kareem is right about one thing: Caitlin Clark is not Michael Jordan or LeBron James.

At least not yet.

But if he wants to use LeBron as the example, then he has to stick to the timeline. LeBron was anointed before he won anything. He was made the face of the future because everyone could see where the sport was headed.

That's exactly what's happening with Clark. She is the face of the WNBA.

The people so fervently arguing otherwise are actually proving the point, even if they don't realize it.

Livvy Dunne reveals the reason it is 'really hard' to watch boyfriend Paul Skenes pitch

For Livvy Dunne, watching her boyfriend, Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes, is not easy.

Dunne, 23, said watching Skenes pitch is harder than competing as a gymnast at LSU and that she goes through a whirlwind of emotions during his starts.

"Obviously, I think I got put on blast a few times while watching him," Dunne said during an appearance on MLB Network with Skenes. "I get nervous because I obviously want him to do his best. I love him. He usually pops out, does his thing, does amazing. But I feel every emotion while he’s out there doing his thing."

"It’s completely out of my control, which is really hard because while I was competing, I mean, I was in control of my own destiny. Now I just need to sit back, relax and trust him."

Dunne went viral earlier this season when she was seen mouthing "F---" after Skenes gave up a home run to Toronto Blue Jays star George Springer. The former LSU star attends many of the games Skenes pitches and is an ardent supporter of her boyfriend and the Pirates.

Dunne has gotten a firsthand look at Skenes’ stuff as she stepped into the batter's box before the Pirates ace left for spring training.

"I think all offseason Paul wanted me to stand in while he was pitching. I’ve been procrastinating all offseason because it’s scary and everybody told me it would be very scary," Dunne said.

"It was the last day of the offseason before he went to spring training and he was like, ‘Nope, come. You’re going to stand there.’ And I thought he was joking, and I stood and I was frozen."

Skenes said he buzzed her tower, meaning he threw high and inside to his girlfriend.

"She had been asking me, too. She wanted to see it, or she said she wanted to see it, and then time comes, we got to see if you’re about it," Skenes said.

The reigning NL Cy Young winner has an 8-8 record and a 3.57 ERA this season, and has been an anchor for a Pirates team that is in the thick of the National League Wild Card race at 50-47.

Florida State quarterback Ashton Daniels is not happy with perceived On3 QB rankings snub

It wouldn't be "talking season" without a little bulletin board material, and that's exactly what Florida State fans and players alike got at the opening rounds of ACC Media Days on Wednesday.

To set the scene, On3 ranked their top ten quarterbacks in the Atlantic Coast Conference heading into 2026, featuring plenty of familiar names and hyped-up newcomers in the world of college football.

Depending on who you ask, however, one name was conspicuously absent from the list.

While guys like Darian Mensah and C.J. Bailey are givens, FSU quarterback Ashton Daniels feels like he belonged somewhere in the top-ten.

The Auburn transfer was asked about the perceived snub from On3 at Media Days on Wednesday in Charlotte, and the senior signal caller did not mince words.

On one hand, Daniels may have a legitimate gripe.

Seeing names like Christopher Vizzina and Lincoln Kienholz make the top-ten with virtually no experience has to hurt, especially with standout performances against ranked teams like Vanderbilt and Alabama on his resume (albeit in losses).

The experienced quarterback put up a combined 612 yards and three touchdowns through the air against both the Tide and Commodores in 2025, and he has over 700 passing attempts in his career.

With that being said, his supporting cast at Auburn featured two top-end wide receivers catching the ball in Eric Singleton Jr. and Cam Coleman, and outside of standout Deuce Robinson, Daniels may not have the same firepower to turn to in Tallahassee.

It's also worth noting that Daniels has a 24-22 touchdown-to-interception ratio for his career and has never averaged over seven yards per attempt in a season.

It is clear, however, that Daniels — and Florida State as a whole — will have to earn any respect they get by going out and proving themselves on the field.

A 7-17 record over the last two seasons doesn't earn anyone the benefit of the doubt, and although Daniels wasn't a part of those messes, they are the messes that he inherited when he signed up to play for head coach Mike Norvell.

Drunk wrong-way driver killed Mass trooper after 9 drinks at bar, DA report says

A drunken wrong-way driver who killed a Massachusetts state trooper in a head-on crash had been served nine alcoholic drinks at a restaurant before blowing past clear warning signs and plowing down a highway in the wrong direction, according to a newly released DA report.

Hernan Marrero, 50, of Roslindale, had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.192, which is more than twice the legal limit, when his Jeep Wrangler slammed head-on into Trooper Kevin Trainor’s cruiser around 2:04 a.m. on May 6 in Lynnfield, Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker’s office said.

The crash killed both Marrero and Trainor, a 30-year-old state trooper from Georgetown.

A new report details Marrero’s final hours before the deadly wreck, saying he first stopped at a Waltham restaurant, where he bought food and received one complimentary drink before closing out his tab at 7:42 p.m. He then drove to Tribu Mexican Kitchen and Bar on Route 1 North in Saugus, where he sat at the bar at 9:15 p.m. and was served a margarita five minutes later, according to investigators.

Marrero later posted a photo of a margarita on social media with the caption, "Second stop!!!" the DA’s report said.

Between 9:20 p.m. and 12:53 a.m., he was served a total of nine alcoholic drinks at Tribu, investigators found.

The Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission has issued a notice to Tribu alleging multiple civil violations, including serving alcoholic drinks after hours and serving free drinks, according to the report. A hearing is scheduled for July 28.

The DA’s office said that after reviewing the case under applicable legal standards, criminal charges are "not sustainable."

Marrero left the Tribu parking lot at 1:56 a.m. and drove north on Route 1 for about 2.3 miles before entering a jughandle near Santarpio’s Pizza in Peabody that allows drivers to reverse direction onto Route 1 south.

But instead of properly entering the southbound side, Marrero grazed a guardrail, ran a red light and made too sharp a left turn before re-entering the northbound lanes while driving south, the report said.

Investigators said the area had clear and unobstructed "WRONG WAY," "DO NOT ENTER" and "ONE WAY" signs directing motorists not to enter Route 1 north from the jughandle.

Marrero then drove 1.8 miles southbound in the northbound lane.

A truck driver who saw the Jeep pass called 911, and another trooper broadcast a warning about the wrong-way driver to the State Police Danvers barracks and area cruisers, according to the report.

Trainor, who had just finished a public safety detail and clocked out at 1:52 a.m., had his cruiser radio on and set to the channel where the warnings were broadcast.

His cruiser was the first to encounter Marrero’s Jeep.

The vehicles collided head-on, with Trainor’s cruiser traveling between 60.4 and 68.6 mph and Marrero’s Jeep traveling between 56.4 and 61.4 mph at impact, investigators found.

Crash reconstructionists determined that Marrero’s wrong-way driving was not caused by any vehicle defect or problem with the posted signage.

Instead, they concluded that the crash was caused by Marrero’s actions and that his wrong-way operation of the Jeep resulted in both his own death and Trainor’s line-of-duty death.

Tucker said the evidence shows Trainor acted with "exemplary courage and self-sacrifice."

"His willingness to put his own life at risk to serve and protect the citizens of the Commonwealth likely prevented an even greater tragedy," Tucker said.

DOJ threatens criminal prosecution if publisher proceeds with Zachary Young spy memoir

FIRST ON FOX — The Department of Justice has threatened legal action and potential criminal prosecution if book giant HarperCollins proceeds with a planned spy memoir by Zachary Young, but the CIA-trained U.S. Navy veteran blasted the warning as "a blatant intimidation tactic."

Young, who beat CNN in a defamation lawsuit last year, has since teamed up with "American Sniper" co-author Scott McEwen for a memoir called "American Spy" for a book about his career working undercover in hostile environments and operating in the hidden world of international espionage.

Young, who signed a nondisclosure agreement during his time with the CIA, insists he informed his former employer that "American Spy" wouldn’t contain classified information and pointed out his involvement with the agency was already part of the public trial record after the CIA confirmed his background to CNN reporters.

However, the DOJ denied permission and ordered him to delete the manuscript altogether.

"It has come to the attention of this office that Mr. Zachary S. Young has prepared a draft manuscript which he intends for publication, and that the subject of this manuscript includes classified or other sensitive national security information. I write to inform you that Mr. Young is prohibited from publishing or disclosing this classified or sensitive national security information, which was known to him while he was employed with the United States," DOJ Federal Programs Branch Director Alexander Haas wrote in a June 26 letter obtained by Fox News Digital.

Haas wrote that Young is required to obtain permission from the United States before publishing or disclosing any information related to his former employment but failed to receive authorization and has been instructed to delete all copies of his "unapproved manuscript."

Haas noted that "Young agreed to comply with the provisions specified in a secrecy agreement both during his employment and following the termination of such employment for the rest of his life," and the Navy veteran is therefore "legally obligated to submit any writing covered by this secrecy agreement that he intends to disclose or publish to the relevant prepublication review entity directed by the United States."

"Proceeding with publication without providing the United States with the opportunity to review the manuscript potentially threatens national security," Haas wrote. "Failure to comply with the required prepublication review process and/or making prohibited disclosures of information subject to the applicable secrecy agreement may force the United States to seek additional measures, including, but not limited to, civil suits and referral of this matter to appropriate officials to consider criminal prosecution."

The Justice Department also made it clear that it plans to stop Young from profiting off the planned memoir.

Haas concluded the letter by stating, "At a minimum, well-established legal authority would entitle the United States to a constructive trust over all proceeds earned by Mr. Young in connection with an unauthorized publication or disclosure of information in breach of his secrecy agreements."

Young said that HarperCollins informed him Tuesday that it won’t move forward with the project until things are sorted out with the DOJ and CIA. But Young is furious and believes he has complied and hasn’t even been told what exactly the agency objects to.

"DOJ's letter was a blatant intimidation tactic, and it worked exactly as intended on my publisher. It won't work on me. I have cooperated with this process in good faith, and I take my NDA obligations seriously, but it is impossible to comply with a review process when the Agency refuses to identify a single passage they claim is classified," Young told Fox News Digital.

"The whole purpose of the prepublication review process is to work with former officers so mistakes don't happen. That's why I cooperated with it from the start and why I still want to. But that hasn't been the agency's position at all," Young continued. "Their position has been to shut everything down, presumably because they're embarrassed, and then threaten me and my publisher with lawsuits and criminal exposure. That's not good faith review. That's coercion."

Young said what "makes this especially hard to swallow" is that NewsBusters reported that the person who served as CIA public affairs director when Young’s affiliation was confirmed to then-CNN correspondent Alex Marquardt had previously worked for CNN from January 2017 to January 2020.

"That is a matter of record, proven in documents, and it happened before any of the CNN litigation began. The agency knew about the CNN trial and chose not to get involved, and now everything is publicly available," Young said.

"At this point, I don't think this is about classification at all," he continued. "I think it is about internal embarrassment."

The DOJ did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.

Young successfully alleged that CNN smeared him by implying he illegally profited when helping people flee Afghanistan on the "black market" during the Biden administration's military withdrawal from the country in 2021. During the trial, Young outlined his extensive training in tactics such as "brush passes" and other sophisticated ways to exchange sensitive information in hostile areas without being detected.

In 2025, a six-person jury decided Young was owed $4 million in lost earnings and $1 million in personal damages such as pain and suffering and said punitive damages were warranted against CNN. An undisclosed settlement was reached before punitive damages were decided by the jury.

"It was never my intention to write a book. I was never seeking attention. The last thing I ever wanted was to be dragged into litigation with one of the largest media entities on the planet, fight them for three years and have everything from my past dragged into the light. But I did," Young said.

Dems unite to boycott hearing on emerging threat facing America: 'Don’t want to know the truth'

The Democratic side of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee dais was empty Wednesday as Republicans questioned witnesses at a hearing on "Exposing Fraud in America," prompting GOP lawmakers to accuse the minority of ducking a politically uncomfortable issue.

Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., the ranking member on the committee, was the only Democrat present for the hearing’s opening statements. He asked a handful of questions before appearing to leave sometime before Chairman Rand Paul, R-Ky., addressed witnesses Nick Shirley, James O’Keefe and Dylan Hedtler-Gaudette.

Otherwise, the Democratic side of the dais was vacant.

Besides Peters, who did not stay for the main portion of the hearing, Democrats on the panel include senators John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Ruben Gallego of Arizona, Andy Kim of New Jersey and Elissa Slotkin of Michigan.

When Paul turned to call on Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., to offer his questions, Moreno said a Democrat is supposed to be given time to question witnesses after a Republican finishes.

"If there were a Democrat here, yes," Paul replied. "So, there's no Democrats present at a hearing about fraud," Moreno said, leading Paul to state for the record, "There doesn't appear to be a great deal of interest across the aisle."

The lack of attendance from the Democrats drew criticisms online.

Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., labeled the no-show Democrats "cowards" in an X message.

Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner asked Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., about the optics of Democrats’ half-circle of empty seats on Wednesday.

"They don’t want to know the truth about this. ... You look at these areas that have just basically turned a blind eye and have let people move forward with fraud," Blackburn said.

Blackburn previously introduced legislation that would make defrauding the federal government a denaturalizing and deportable offense, she said.

Florida political reporter Eric Daugherty commented that the Senate held an important "anti-taxpayer fraud meeting … with Nick Shirley and James O’Keefe, and … every single Democrat seat is empty."

"One hundred percent of Democrats on the committee were invited – 0% showed up. The party of fraud," Daugherty declared.

During the hearing, Shirley sounded off about what he and his reporting partner David Hoch discovered as they visited various, largely Somali-owned daycare center addresses in Minneapolis.

"When we talk about fraud, we are talking about money stolen from hardworking, law-abiding, taxpaying citizens," Shirley said.

"This issue has nothing to do with political parties, because no dollar says Republican or Democrat on it. When a fraudster commits fraud, he or she steals from all of us. The worst part is that fraud affects the most vulnerable and needy, as they rely the most on government services," he said, describing a 43-minute video he composed from touring such sites with Hoch in Minneapolis.

Shirley and Hoch’s work later earned them a State of the Union invitation from Rep. Pete Stauber, R-Minn.

With the Democratic dais vacant, Shirley noted that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz announced in January 2026 that he would not seek a third term, and the daycare organization with the highest level of government funding purportedly pleaded guilty to fraud and the largest "autism fraud" bust in history has occurred in Minnesota.

"Elon [Musk] was right when he said, ‘The fraudsters always complain the loudest,'" he said.

James O’Keefe testified about his work in Los Angeles, where he and his journalists recorded 28 exchanges with election petition circulators offering money or drugs in exchange for ballot signatures.

"They campaign in this building (the Capitol) about freedom and protecting democracy, preventing disenfranchisement and how nobody is above the law," O’Keefe testified.

A retired math professor was charged after allegedly killing his wife, who was an airline meteorologist.

Police said officers responded to a home in Fair Oaks, Virginia, and found 60-year-old Chisen Jameson suffering from gunshot wounds. She had called 911 before the shooting, and officials said sounds consistent with gunfire could be heard in the background of the call, according to FOX 5.

64‑year‑old Leland Jameson was charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Leland Jameson is a former professor at George Mason University and got his Ph.D. from Brown University.

Vice President JD Vance warned podcaster Joe Rogan in an interview published Wednesday that the administration is trying to establish a deal with Iran to stop a war and possible refugee crisis but claims a determined faction of the Republican Party wants to sabotage it at all costs.

"There are people who are super hawkish in the American system who have attacked the deal and, frankly, in some ways have tried to derail the deal. And what I always say to those people is, ‘What is your proposal? What is your actual argument?’" he said as he spoke to Rogan about the recent efforts to negotiate an end to the military conflict with Iran and prevent it from becoming a larger war.

He offered the Strait of Hormuz as one key example of how perilous the situation is, where Iran can shut down 25% of the world’s energy supply with cheap drones that are notoriously difficult to intercept.

Vance claimed some opposing Republicans and their allies who don't want negotiations ultimately want to "just bomb them to oblivion" or to somehow achieve regime change in Iran.

"It’s not good," Vance agreed.

Vance argued that sending a ground invasion of 150,000 troops is "basically saying that the U.S. military should do the job for the Iranian people. We're not in that business anymore. We're just not."

The other outcome Vance warned of is "the Libya outcome," where, by the United States toppling dictator Moammar Gadhafi, "Libya basically turned into a failed state. You had a refugee crisis. You had people pouring into Europe, pouring into other parts of Asia, other parts of Africa. You had a lot of violence. A lot of terrorism came from that.

"I do think that there are people who would like that to be the outcome in Iran," Vance warned. "But then I say again, what is in our interest? How is it in the United States' interest to have 94 million desperate people flooding into Europe, flooding into the United States, to have the sort of terrorist infrastructure that can get established when you fan terrorists all over the world? We've run this experiment before."

Rogan recalled the theory that the downfall of Gaddafi was the spark that began the global migrant crisis flooding Europe in the 2010s.

Every time that it has happened, it's caused a refugee crisis. It's caused a spike in terrorism. And it's also, not incidentally to the moral considerations, it's led to a lot of innocent civilian deaths."

While Vance touted that Trump gathered a historic big tent coalition, he said the "hawkish" wing of it has repeatedly rebuked Trump when he wavers from their agenda.

"What has really annoyed me about the hawkish side of this thing is they attack any effort to negotiate. They attack the president. They attack me personally," he said, claiming they take the attitude of, "'Donald Trump is betraying me.'"

"Well, wait a second. If you want to have a hawkish policy towards Iran, the idea that Donald Trump has betrayed you because he's also trying to negotiate to get a good outcome for the American people is crazy," Vance replied.

He warned that, in the recent memorandum of understanding, there was an agreement that the United States would allow neighboring Gulf countries to invest $300 billion in Iran if it met its obligations. Opponents argued the measure would damage one of the United States’ most critical relationships in the Middle East amid the Iran war and hamper Israel's ability to combat terrorist organizations, including Hamas and Hezbollah.

"The same terrorists and terrorist entities that threaten Israel also threaten the United States and our people directly," Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Fla., said Wednesday. "When we give Israel the tools and capabilities to eliminate these terrorist threats … we are making America and the American people safer."

The Florida Republican also noted that the vast majority of the funding is used by Israel to purchase American-made weaponry, supporting the U.S. industrial base.

Several prominent Democrats agreed, offering sharp criticism of the Massie amendment.

"This amendment would embolden the enemies of peace, those pursuing the complete elimination of Israel and those who seek the death of Jews," former House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said during debate on the measure.

Despite the Massie amendment failing overwhelmingly, supporters still took a victory lap.

"More Democrats than ever before voted to stop sending money to Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, despite the fact that this amendment was an imperfect vehicle for our movement," Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Greg Casar, D-Texas, said following the vote. "Tomorrow we get back to work to build a Democratic Party that spends taxpayer dollars on working people, not an out of control military abroad. We will win."

Jeffries, who announced his opposition to the Massie amendment during a closed-door meeting on Tuesday, argued the measure was poorly drafted. House Democratic Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., the third-ranking House Democrat, agreed.

"As written, it is overly broad in that it prohibits or would limit the use of funds for longstanding initiatives related to humanitarian aid, refugee resettlement, peace-building and U.S. Embassy operations," Jeffries wrote in a "Dear Colleague" letter, adding that U.S. policy toward Israel must change.

Clark, his deputy, and a bevy of Democrats rejected his position, arguing the country’s war in Gaza — an event some lawmakers have labeled a genocide — necessitated a need to end financial support to the Jewish state.

"If we hope to change Israel’s behavior, we must use our leverage," Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, said on the House floor. "The American people have seen this tragedy with their own eyes. … They do not support giving Israel more weapons."

Massie’s amendment did not include language preventing non-military aid from also being cut off.

"It's really bad for our ally, for our national security. They shouldn't be messing around like this," Rep. Greg Landsman, D-Ohio, told Fox News in June.

The Ohio Democrat also accused Republicans of putting the measure on the floor to expose divisions among his party.

Wednesday's vote comes as a growing number of Democrats take an increasingly hard line against Israel, according to recent polling.

An NBC News survey released in March found that 67% of Democratic voters have more sympathy for Gaza than Israel, while just 17% said the opposite.

Three socialists trounced establishment-aligned candidates in New York’s June primaries while largely running on opposition to Israel.

Meanwhile, Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., who supports terminating U.S. aid to Israel, was pressed to support Hamas’ Oct. 7 invasion of Israel during an interview with a leftist news outlet Tuesday.

Though Khanna declined to say the brutal attack was justified, the questioning was viewed by several Democratic commentators as reflective of growing hostility toward Israel within the party.

Given changing attitudes, some Democrats predicted Massie's amendment would draw significant support.

"I wouldn't be surprised if it was quite large because I don't think this is just an ideological issue. I don't think this is just a lefty thing," Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., told Fox News. "I think this is affecting people all across the board."

Florida fisherman uses speargun to hold off three attacking sharks during Destin dive

The only thing scarier than getting attacked by a shark … is getting attacked by three sharks.

That’s exactly what happened to Florida spearfisherman Matthew Piendak, who found himself surrounded by a trio of aggressive predators during a recent dive off the coast of Destin.

Lucky for him, he escaped. And lucky for us, he captured the whole terrifying encounter on camera.

Piendak was completing a safety stop — a brief pause during a diver’s ascent that allows excess nitrogen to leave the body and reduces the risk of decompression sickness — when the sharks began closing in.

POV footage shows the animals repeatedly swimming directly toward him as Piendak uses his speargun to push them away and keep their mouths at a safe distance.

Well, as safe as one can possibly be while fighting off three sharks underwater.

Eventually, a nearby boat reached Piendak and pulled him from the Gulf before any of the sharks managed to bite him. He escaped the encounter without injury.

Piendak is certainly no stranger to what lurks beneath the surface. His Instagram page is filled with footage from dives, encounters with marine wildlife and the enormous fish he regularly brings back to shore. Dolphins, manta rays, sea turtles and massive schools of fish all make appearances.

So do plenty of sharks.

That comes with the territory when you spend a significant portion of your free time swimming around the Gulf carrying dead and wounded fish. But even an experienced diver probably does not expect to fend off three sets of teeth at the same time.

Sharks do not typically view humans as prey, but, as wildlife biologist Forrest Galante explained to OutKick Outdoors, a curious or agitated shark can still do plenty of damage with an exploratory bite.

"They don’t have hands," Galante said. "They can’t feel it, so that investigative bite can be very, very damaging and, in some cases, fatal. So when they’re trying to figure out if something is or isn’t food, that can be a problem. Most of the time, we’re not even on the menu. They’re just trying to figure out if we are."

Fortunately, Piendak never gave these three the opportunity for a nibble.

He stayed composed, kept his speargun between himself and the sharks and held them off long enough for help to arrive.

That is an impressive display of calm under pressure from a man who is clearly comfortable in the water.

Female wrestler who was allegedly sexually assaulted by trans athlete opens up on waging Title IX lawsuit

Kallie Keeler used to spend the whole year waiting for wrestling season.

The Washington teenager has been on the mat since she was 4 years old. Even when she was playing soccer, wrestling was still the sport that stayed on her mind.

"It’s, like, all I look forward to all year," Keeler said. "I’ll be talking about wrestling in the middle of soccer season."

But now, after Keeler and her mother Stephanie Brown filed a lawsuit with Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) over an alleged sexual assault to Keeler by a trans athlete during a match in February, the sport that once shaped her life has become the center of a legal battle, a school controversy and a public debate she never expected to join.

Keeler said she has not decided whether she will continue wrestling next season, after she was allegedly told by officials she may have to face that same trans athlete in future competitions.

"It just depends where everything is at by the time wrestling season comes around," she said.

The lawsuit names multiple government and school parties, including the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, Washington Superintendent Chris Reykdal, the Puyallup School District and multiple school employees, according to prior reporting. The transgender athlete and the athlete’s family are not defendants.

The case centers not only on what Keeler says happened during the match, but also on what she and her mother say happened afterward: a lack of communication from school officials, no meaningful resolution before the family went public, classmates accusing Keeler of lying and the possibility that she could be matched against a male athlete again without advance notice.

Brown said the decision to sue came after she believed the school system failed her daughter.

"The decision to file the lawsuit was because the schools didn’t take our report of what happened to her seriously," Brown said. "They didn’t do anything to investigate it, correct it. They didn’t even keep in contact with me."

For Keeler, the day began as the end of a long tournament.

"I remember that it was just my last match of the tournament, so it was already pretty late and I was pretty tired," Keeler said. "I was wrestling for third place, and then the match was, like, going normally, and then towards the end of the match was when I got sexually assaulted."

Keeler said she had never wrestled the opponent before and did not know going into the match that the opponent was a biological male.

"I did not," she said when asked whether she knew before the match, claiming she found out afterward.

"I found out after the match was already over when a coach from a different school came up and told me," Keeler said. "I was shocked, and then I was more uncomfortable about the situation than I already was."

Keeler said she tried to find her coaches in the immediate aftermath but could not.

"I tried to find my coaches, but I couldn’t find my coaches," she said.

Brown said Keeler told her "right away," and Brown then began contacting school officials herself.

"From that point, I kind of took the lead in talking to the coaches, and I made sure to send them an email and let them know what happened and ask them to kind of handle the situation," Brown said. "They assured me they were looking into it. They assured me it was gonna be handled. They passed it off to all these people, and then we just never heard anything else about it, like nothing further about it until we started pressing them."

ADF attorney Kate Anderson, who is representing the family, said the video of the match showed Keeler was visibly upset after coming off the mat.

"This was a really disturbing situation, and you can tell from the video that circulated on it, but Kallie came off the mat crying and very visibly upset," Anderson said. "Her coaches were around. They saw. They didn’t address that with her. They just went on to the next thing, which is why she struggled to find them later, and then Stephanie had to report it by email as soon as she could."

Brown said the first response from a coach was that school staff did not know a biological male was in Keeler’s bracket.

"The reaction was that the coach said that they didn’t know that there was a biological male in the bracket," Brown said. "They said they would never have put her on the mat had they known, because she said she wouldn’t have put any of her athletes in that position."

But Anderson said that while the family initially heard sympathetic comments, the district and athletic association later maintained that Keeler could be placed in the same situation again.

"While the school district kind of gave lip service to that right away, they’ve now maintained, as has the athletic association, that this can happen again," Anderson said. "If Kallie goes back into wrestling this year, that they can match her against a male athlete again, and that they won’t tell her or her mom ahead of time."

That possibility has left Keeler unsure about her future in the sport.

"It’s kind of unsettling," Keeler said. "It really makes me contemplate whether I do want to continue with wrestling throughout high school or not."

The lawsuit has also changed life for Keeler away from the mat, especially at school. She said some of her relationships with teammates and friends from wrestling have faded since the allegations became public.

"A lot of my friends from sports, like from the wrestling team, we don’t really talk anymore because of the whole thing," Keeler said.

When asked why, Keeler said, "They really liked the coach, and they just kind of fell off when the whole thing came out."

Brown added, "They’re blaming her for the coach being in trouble."

Brown said she does not know what, if any, discipline the coach has faced. But she said the fallout among students began after coaches were being discussed and questioned.

"Girls were telling her this was her fault and just kind of stuff like that," Brown said. "There’s been a lot of harassment at school from other kids."

The attention has followed the family beyond school hallways. Brown said she and Keeler have been recognized in public after the case drew attention.

"It’s brought a lot, a lot of added stress," Brown said. "We’ve gone out in public and people have been like, they recognize her or they recognize me, and they’ll whisper and they’ll talk. And at times it’s been uncomfortable...

"You can just hear them whisper. They’ll be like, ‘Oh, that’s Kallie,’ and people just talk. They recognize her and/or me now that my face has been out there."

The family’s legal argument is that Washington state education officials, the WIAA and the Puyallup School District violated Keeler’s rights by enforcing policies that allow male athletes who identify as female to compete in girls’ sports without notice to female athletes or their parents. The complaint alleges the policies led Keeler to unknowingly wrestle a male opponent in a girls’ tournament, where she says she was sexually assaulted, and that officials then failed to properly report, investigate or remedy the incident.

Anderson said the family is seeking immediate protection before the next wrestling season.

"The biggest piece is that Stephanie has asked that her daughter be able to continue wrestling and be guaranteed that she won’t be matched against a male," Anderson said. "Or at the very least, she be made aware that she’s being matched against a male athlete so that she and her mom can make a decision that’s going to protect her safety and privacy going forward."

Anderson said the school district and athletic association have denied that request.

"They will not give her notice again," Anderson said. "That’s really the heart of the motion we just filed with the court, is to have the court step in and say as the case continues, she can be protected from having to wrestle a male athlete again."

The Puyallup School District previously told Fox News Digital it had not been formally served with the complaint at the time of that inquiry and was reviewing the matter, but could not comment further because the matter involved student privacy and anticipated litigation. Fox News Digital previously reported it had reached out to the WIAA and the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.

For Brown, the most painful part of the public reaction has been hearing people dismiss what Keeler says happened as simply part of wrestling.

Brown said critics have repeatedly used the term "oil check," a phrase sometimes used in wrestling to describe an invasive illegal maneuver.

"A lot of the things that we’ve heard is just, ‘Oh, it’s just an oil check. If you can’t handle an oil check, you shouldn’t be a wrestler,’" Brown said. "We’ve heard that so many times. She was hearing that from peers at school, too."

Brown rejected that argument.

"An oil check is, by definition, sexual assault," Brown said. "That’s not something that should happen in boys’ categories or the girls’ category. It’s not okay, and it’s not a normal part of wrestling."

Brown said Keeler’s long history in the sport makes that argument especially frustrating.

"Kallie’s wrestled since she was 4" Brown said. "It used to be co-ed up until the end of junior high when kids are going through puberty and that switch in the body happens. This has never been an issue. She’s never been violated ever."

Brown said her sons wrestled, too, and she does not accept the idea that what her daughter described is a typical part of the sport.

"For people just to say, ‘Oh, it’s just a normal part of wrestling,’ like my boys wrestled too, and it was never a thing with them," Brown said. "This is not your typical everyday wrestling situation."

Anderson said the alleged act was not incidental contact during a move.

"It’s not having something that just happens as part of a move," Anderson said. "This is something that’s a flagrant foul, and in her case was a pretty significant sexual assault. And so for people to blame her or to suggest that she signed up for that really needs to be stopped."

Brown said the family’s objection to what happened has repeatedly been framed by others as hostility toward the LGBT community — a characterization she says is false.

"Two things can be true," Brown said. "We can support a community, but we can still not agree with what’s happening in sports or with her in particular."

Brown said her family has close personal connections to the LGBTQ community.

"I have very close friends who have trans kids, and we’ve always welcomed them and made them feel supported and comfortable with who they are," Brown said. "I have family members who are part of the community. One of my own children is part of the community. I have a stepson who’s part of that community."

Brown also said one of her older son’s former partners identified as nonbinary and "always felt supported" in their home.

"I just don’t like being painted as someone who doesn’t support the community because we do," Brown said. "But also I don’t support what happened to my daughter, and I don’t support biological males in women’s sports."

Keeler said the people closest to her understand that she would not fabricate an allegation because someone is transgender.

"I feel like they’re pretty supportive about the whole thing because they know that I wouldn’t just make something up because somebody is trans," Keeler said. "They know me personally, and they know my story on a more different level because of how close we are."

At school, however, Keeler said she does not report every comment or accusation.

"I don’t really report it to the school," she said.

Brown said her daughter does not feel she can trust school officials with those reports after what happened with the original allegations.

"I don’t think she’s in a position where she feels like she can trust anyone to go to at the school to report it, because they didn’t do anything with any of the reports prior to the things that are happening now," Brown said. "She’ll tell me what’s happening."

According to Anderson, the school district did not open a Title IX investigation in earnest until after the case became public.

"They waited to open an investigation until this case started in the news and people became aware in the community and there became some pushback on social media," Anderson said. "That’s the first time they really started to, in earnest, open a Title IX investigation."

Anderson said the family believes school officials had a duty to report and investigate the allegation earlier.

"They’ve drug that investigation on and on, and it’s still ongoing," Anderson said.

Keeler’s own experience in wrestling cuts across much of the debate. She did wrestle boys when she was younger, she said, because club wrestling and middle school wrestling were co-ed. But she and Brown said that changes by high school.

"It ends at eighth grade," Brown said of co-ed wrestling. "That’s when a lot of changes are happening for boys and girls."

Keeler said the difference between wrestling boys and girls is noticeable.

"Guys are more aggressive right off the bat and have more strength a lot of the time," Keeler said. "They have more strength in their upper body, when girls have more strength in their lower body. So I feel like it’s easier to get control when you’re wrestling a girl versus a guy."

Asked whether she sensed that difference during the match at issue, Keeler said, "A little bit." But she said it still did not occur to her that the athlete she was wrestling could be a biological male.

"Some girl wrestlers, they work out a lot, so they have a lot of upper body strength," Keeler said. "It didn’t really cross my mind that I would be wrestling a biological male."

Anderson said that fact is central to the family’s complaint.

"That’s the real key, too, is it wasn’t even in their minds that this could happen," Anderson said. "It wasn’t even a possibility because they had no idea."

For Brown, the case is about protecting her daughter’s ability to keep doing the sport she loves while having the information Brown believes she should have had the first time.

For Keeler, it is simpler and harder: She wants to wrestle, but she does not know whether the mat will feel safe again.

She is 16 now. She has been wrestling for 12 years. And after everything that has happened — the match, the lawsuit, the whispers, the accusations, the lost friendships and the uncertainty about next season — she is still waiting to find out whether the sport she loves will remain part of her life.

Harris calls for ICE probe after Maine shooting amid renewed 'border czar' criticism

Former Vice President Kamala Harris blasted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Tuesday after agents fatally shot a Colombian national during a Maine operation, sparking criticism from opponents who contrasted her response with her silence on high-profile murders committed by illegal immigrants.

Harris called for "an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation" into the death of 26-year-old Joan Sebastian Guerrero.

Guerrero was shot Monday after attempting to flee ICE officers in a vehicle during an operation targeting an illegal immigrant with a final order of removal, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

"Joan Sebastian Guerrero should still be alive," Harris wrote Tuesday on X. "This is the second time in a week that ICE agents have killed someone who — by their own admission — was not the subject of their operation. Now Sebastian is dead, his killing witnessed by his three-year-old daughter wearing her Bluey pajamas.

"This cannot be acceptable in America," Harris continued. "Anyone responsible for wrongdoing must be held accountable."

Harris' comments quickly sparked criticism online, with many users pointing to her role overseeing the Biden administration's efforts to address the root causes of migration from Central America, a position Republicans frequently referred to as the administration's "border czar."

During the Biden administration, federal officials estimated that roughly 2 million known "gotaways" entered the U.S. after crossing the border illegally and avoiding capture.

ICE officers were conducting surveillance Monday morning at the last known address of an illegal immigrant with a final order of removal in Biddeford, Maine, when Guerrero allegedly fled in a vehicle after officers attempted to make contact, according to Homeland Security.

"The vehicle attempted to flee the scene and, fearing for public safety, an officer discharged his weapon," the department said in a statement. "The driver of the vehicle was struck, and emergency services were immediately contacted. He passed away from his injuries."

An eyewitness told Maine's Portland Press Herald that Guerrero appeared to drive toward federal agents before shots were fired.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said Guerrero was not the intended target of the operation.

However, the department said in a statement to Fox News Digital that Guerrero had illegally crossed the border during the Biden administration in September 2023. It is unknown if he was awaiting asylum, but he was granted a work permit in May 2025.

"To be clear, work authorization does not confer legal status in the United States," the spokesperson said in a statement.

ICE AGENTS INSTRUCTED TO END MOST VEHICLE STOPS IN MAJOR POLICY SHIFT

Many commentators also argued Harris and other leading Democrats have been far less vocal in publicly mourning Americans killed by illegal immigrants than in condemning ICE enforcement actions.

Some critics cited the 2024 death of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley, who was killed by Venezuelan illegal immigrant Jose Ibarra after he illegally entered the U.S. Others referenced Maryland mother Rachel Morin, who was raped and murdered by Salvadoran illegal immigrant Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez.

Unlike in the killing of Guerrero, Harris did not make a social media post paying tribute to Riley or Morin's death. Harris did not publicly acknowledge the death of those young women at the hands of illegal immigrants until pressed by Fox News host Bret Baier in an Oct. 24, 2024, interview.

"First of all, those are tragic cases," Harris said after Baier asked whether the Biden administration bore any responsibility for the deaths. "There's no question about that. I can't imagine the pain that the families of those victims have experienced for a loss that should not have occurred."

The deaths of Riley and Morin became a flashpoint issue for Republicans during the 2024 presidential campaign and throughout the Trump administration's push to tighten immigration enforcement.

Social media users also pointed to angel families, who are relatives of Americans killed by illegal immigrants who have become prominent advocates for stronger border security and immigration enforcement. The families frequently have appeared alongside President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers at campaign events, the White House and on Capitol Hill to highlight crimes committed by people in the country illegally.

Harris' statement follows another July post she made after a separate fatal ICE shooting in Houston involving Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, whom the Department of Homeland Security also said attempted to ram federal officers with his vehicle during a traffic stop.

"Lorenzo Salgado Araujo's family called him 'El mundo entero' — the whole world," Harris wrote Thursday. "Doug and my prayers are with Lorenzo's wife, his three sons, and all those who loved and knew him. I join his son Ronaldo in calling for an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation."

Hochul confronted on study showing millionaire exodus in New York City

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul was confronted about a new study that found the wealthy fled the city in droves between 2010 and 2022 and whether it was getting any better.

The Citizen Budget Commission (CBC) found that New York's share of millionaires in the U.S. declined from 12.7 percent to 8.7 percent between 2019 and 2022.

"Their latest report basically said wealthy individuals are moving out, families are moving out, and single filers are coming in," Fox 5's "Good Day New York" host Rosanna Scotto told Hochul. "People who really can't afford New York City are coming here. You had to bail out New York City — $8 billion this budget. They're saying they see a $10 billion budget deficit. What do you think, and how do we stop this?"

Hochul said the numbers were from 2022, as Scotto asked if she thought it had gotten any better. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist, ran on taxing the rich throughout his mayoral campaign, as critics argued that the wealthy would in turn flee the city.

"Back then a big driver of people leaving, and you could draw a through line from when the Donald Trump administration and Congress got rid of the State and Local Tax Deduction. All of a sudden, everybody in New York paid higher taxes because since Abraham Lincoln was president, and they started the tax code, you never were double taxed," Hochul said.

The CBC analysis states, "New York’s declining share of high-income taxpayers has meaningful consequences. Had New York maintained its share of the nation's millionaires over the past decade, personal income tax collections would have been substantially higher — roughly $10.7 billion more in tax year 2022."

She cited the COVID-19 pandemic as a big driver as well, saying, "So people who maybe had a vacation home or a temporary home in Palm Beach said, 'I moved my whole family here. The city is falling apart here, everybody's getting sick, I'm not staying there.'"

"I don't think that's a problem now?" Scotto pushed back.

Hochul said she was doing what she could to prevent wealthy residents and businesses from leaving the city.

"I am doing what I can to stop that because I believe that we should not be raising taxes on high-net-worth individuals," she said. "We should not be raising taxes on the companies that are creating the jobs and generating the revenue that helps us pay for the services that people in New York City come to rely on. So I've taken a different approach. I want to expand the pie."

Scotto also asked Hochul about the luxury housing market.

"There's talk now, a new report today in the paper, that the luxury market, over $10 million apartments are sitting, not moving," she said. "People are concerned about the pied-à-terre tax. Are you concerned about that? Is that on your radar at all?"

Hochul said the pied-à-terre tax was for people like Russian oligarchs and Saudi princes who were perhaps purchasing second homes in New York valued at $5 million or more.

"I'm not talking about someone who has a little apartment because they want to visit the grandkids, right? This is a $5 million apartment, and you're also getting police services, fire services," the governor said. "And so, if you want to be a New Yorker, make this your primary home — you don't have to pay the tax. Trump administration officials and conservatives torched a California judge's sentence for an illegal immigrant trucker who killed three people in a fiery California semi-truck collision, after he was given less than five years behind bars.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who called the sentencing a "slap on the wrist," said his agency will not stop "until ALL illegal alien truckers are put out of business and held accountable," while the Department of Homeland Security said immigration officials were standing by to arrest the trucker "upon his release, so he is never allowed back on our roads."

Jashanpreet Singh, a 21-year-old Indian national who federal authorities said was in the United States illegally, was sentenced Tuesday to four years and eight months in prison after pleading guilty to three felony counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence stemming from an October 2025 crash on Interstate 10 in San Bernardino County, California. Singh’s semitruck plowed into slow-moving traffic, killing three people and injuring several others, while dashcam video showed him never applying the brakes before impact.

Singh crossed the southern border in California’s El Centro Sector in March 2022 and was released into the U.S. under the Biden administration pending an immigration hearing, according to federal sources. He later obtained a California commercial driver’s license in June 2025, according to the Department of Transportation.

Meanwhile, during an April debate among candidates for California governor, several running as Democrats said they would fight the Trump administration's push to get California police officers to begin issuing English proficiency tests for big rig drivers in the state because it's racist.

"Racial profiling is illegal. And, in fact, picking on people based on the color of their skin in the state of California, is illegal," Democrat megadonor and billionaire businessman Tom Steyer said when asked if he would support a policy enforcing police to issue road-side language proficiency tests to truck drivers.

Alcatraz boat victim identified as 79-year-old; Coast Guard ends search for 3 missing

A former California reserve deputy sheriff has been identified as the person who died after a pleasure boat carrying members of an extended family capsized in the frigid waters of San Francisco Bay near Alcatraz Island.

Clifford Joseph Boisa, 79, of Sutter County, died after the three-level recreational vessel sank Tuesday afternoon with 20 people aboard, authorities said. The Sutter County Sheriff's Office confirmed to Fox News Digital that Boisa served as a reserve deputy sheriff beginning in 1987.

Three passengers remained missing Wednesday after 16 others were rescued, including three people who were taken to local hospitals.

The U.S. Coast Guard said Wednesday it planned to suspend its search for the three missing passengers at sunset after crews spent roughly 23 hours searching more than 950 nautical square miles of San Francisco Bay.

"We have completely saturated the search area," Coast Guard Sector San Francisco Commander Capt. Jarod Tosczko said during a Wednesday news conference, thanking Good Samaritans who helped rescue people from the water.

Tosczko said it is possible the three missing passengers are trapped inside the 49-foot vessel, which rests about 130 feet below the surface. Investigators plan to use an underwater drone to find the boat before determining whether to recover the victims and raise the vessel.

The passengers were members of an extended family gathered for a memorial service that included scattering a loved one's ashes in San Francisco Bay, according to a report from The New York Times.

The pilot of the boat was among those hospitalized and has since been released, officials said.

Authorities said everyone aboard was either related or a close family friend, and no children were on the vessel. The names of the three missing passengers have not been released.

San Francisco Fire Chief Dean Crispin said crews were dispatched at about 3:35 p.m. local time after receiving reports of a vessel fire roughly 600 yards off Alcatraz Island between the former prison and the Golden Gate Bridge.

When first responders arrived, they found no evidence of a fire, but instead discovered the boat had capsized while returning from Angel Island and was already mostly submerged.

Crispin said the San Francisco Police Department's marine unit found the vessel with only its upper deck above the water. The boat's engine was still running, and fuel was leaking into the bay.

One person was found in the water, while the remaining occupants were located inside the vessel's top compartment before rescuers pulled them to safety, he said.

Authorities have not yet determined what caused the boat to sink. Investigators are examining factors including the vessel's stability, weather and water conditions.

Officials said the boat appears to have taken on a wave, become swamped with water, rolled over and sank, though the investigation remains ongoing.

Strong summer winds and rapidly changing conditions on San Francisco Bay are known to create dangerous boating conditions.

Commercial fishermen Mike Montoya and Justin Marceline, who rushed to help after the vessel went down, described a frantic rescue as passengers fought to escape.

"There was even people banging at the windows as they were like filing out, and as soon as people were hitting the water, we were just trying to pick them up as fast as we can," the fishermen told NBC Bay Area. "Some people didn't even have life vests on and they were drowning."

Before announcing plans to suspend the search, Coast Guard and San Francisco Fire Department crews searched using boats, helicopters, thermal imaging, tide predictions and drift modeling to search for the three missing passengers.

The Sutter County Sheriff's Office told Fox News Digital it had no additional information to provide about Boisa. Fox News Digital also reached out to the San Francisco Fire Department for additional information.

Middle Hump Day of July! Whew. One minute, you're celebrating our 250th birthday. The next, you're staring down the barrel of the second half of the month.

We've also reached the absolute slowest time of year, minus the pesky World Cup which apparently is still going on despite the U.S. getting bounced last week. Who knew?!

AFTER BLOWOUT LOSS TO BELGIUM, MANY ARE WONDERING IF TEAM USA IS BETTER OR WORSE THAN IT WAS A DECADE AGO

Other than that? Crickets. No baseball tonight. Only one game tomorrow. We do get the British Cup, which is nice.

Although that's usually over before lunch, so it ain't exactly taking up space this weekend.

We're in the Dog Days right now. It's official. They're here. We've got ACC Media Days going on this week, if you care. I reckon another WNBA player could do something dumb tonight? There's always that possibility.

But otherwise, it's a grind right now. Good thing that's our specialty! Let's roll.

What else? I've got Apple TV's MLB girl, Tricia Whitaker, throwing heat the All-Star game, ESPN NFL Draft, Paige Bueckers being just beyond insufferable, and where do we all stand on this potential Daylight Savings Time bill?

We in on more sunlight during the evenings? Or OUT on less sunlight in the mornings? Let's figure it out together.

Tony Romo ain't changing!

Couple housekeeping notes before we get started ...

Yes, I know Amber led with Livvy Dunne in yesterday's class. I don't care. Any time Olivia Dunne is slugging back Miller Lites, it gets VIP seating in this class. Those are the rules.
And yes, I put a new disclaimer at the top of today's column. Usually, it's at the bottom. I've decided to move it up because, frankly, I'm tired of getting emails like this:

OK, let's get class started with Tony Romo — who America has really turned on in recent years — telling the viewers he ain't listening when they mock him for the weird noises he makes in the CBS booth:

"I'm OK with it," Romo said during this week's "Pardon My Take" podcast. "It's been a long time since I've taken offense to people.

Romo continued:

"You're on air three hours a week, you're gonna do something right ... we do more right than wrong, otherwise we wouldn't be in the position we're in. But I think, with anything, you're always going to do something wrong ... I want to teach. I want people to understand 'why,' because there's so much of that that goes into it. 'Why did they make this decision? Why did they run the ball on fourth and two?'

"I just feel like that's what people want, and the more people I talk to love it. There's a gazillion people who come up to you and they like it."

Thoughts? First impressions?

Here's the thing ... I used to love Romo. I think we all did, right? When he first came to CBS, he was must-see TV. Calling out the plays before they happened, and being right all the time. The enthusiasm. It was awesome.

Somewhere along the way, something changed. The Nostradamus stuff wore off. The enthusiasm sort of died away. He became obsessed with Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen.

Brutal. About 10 Sundays out of the year, Romo calls a Patrick Mahomes game at 4:25 on CBS, and it's just the worst. Once in a while, he gets the Mahomes-Allen game, and it's painful.

I don't really care about the weird noises Tony makes while calling a game. His "I don't know Jim!" has become a bit of a calling card over the years. It's fine. It's fun.

But the other stuff? The Mahomes-Allen obsession? The BRUTAL game he had last year in the wild card round in which he claimed he was sick? That's the stuff that annoys me.

Tricia, Paige & DST?

OK, that's a lot of Romo to begin class. Again, though, it's July 15th. There is nothing going on right now. There's a reason sports writers take the entire month of July off, you know?

Not me. I'm a patriot. I go down with the ship!

Let's rapid-fire this Hump Day class into a big Hump Day Night. First up? This Paige Bueckers is just intolerable:

"I'm for equal opportunity, no discrimination based on what you look like, who you like and anything of that nature. I grew up with a lot of prominent Black women in my life that were very important to me in how I was raised and how I grew up, being my stepmom, my AAU coach."

"I understand how amazing they are and how they should get the same equal opportunity as a white woman, as a white man to be an important piece of this league. And it was built on a lot of black women, this league, so it's definitely right for them to get the same equal opportunity as everyone else."

Good lord.

For some reason, Paige was talking about the lack of black coaches in the WNBA. Talk about a slow time of year! Good God. It's just exhausting. They're all so exhausting. The virtue-signaling, pandering, full-of-crap WNBA players who act like we're still living in the 1800s are just so exhausting.

I don't think the WNBA has a racial problem, Paige. I think you're good. I think it's covered.

Lordy.

Next? Where do we stand on this?

You know what? The more I think about it, the more on the fence I am. Originally, I was all for later sunsets. But I think as I've grown older, I've come to appreciate the early sunrise a little more.

I also live in Florida and none of this really applies to us because it doesn't get dark that early down here during the "winter."

But, I also lived in Boston for four years, so I fully understand just how miserable January-March evenings are. You can go DAYS up there without seeing the sun, especially when you're in college and going to bed at 5 a.m. half the time.

Tough call.
