Donald Trump's attorney has apologized for denying the existence of spousal rape while refuting past allegations against the 2016 Republican presidential race.

In a statement to CNN on Tuesday, Michael Cohen, who currently represents the Republican presidential candidate in his $500 million lawsuit against Univision, said he was sorry for an "inarticulate comment" made in a "moment of shock and anger."

"Rarely am I surprised by the press, but the gall of this particular reporter to make such a reprehensible and false allegation against Mr. Trump truly stunned me," Cohen said.

Cohen had unloaded on two Daily Beast reporters who had written about rape allegations made by Trump's ex-wife Ivana during a court deposition in the early 1990s.
