The Republican National Committee raised $9.4 million in September, closing a record-breaking third quarter with $19.4 million in the bank.
The RNC, prepping for its first presidential campaign since a top-to-bottom overhaul of its voter tracking and turnout operations, is boasting that it had the best third quarter in the history of the committee for a non-election year. That included the committee raising more money last month than it ever has in the September of an off year. The party raised $25.2 million from July 1 through Sept. 30, and has hauled in $80.7 million for the 2016 election cycle.
"The RNC continues to meet and exceed our fundraising goals as we build the infrastructure for our eventual nominee," RNC Reince Priebus said in a statement. "No other committee or campaign has the reach or bandwidth of the RNC this early in the cycle. We're on the ground building neighborhood teams, recruiting volunteers, and registering voters in Presidential battleground states from New Hampshire to Nevada in what will be the largest and most data driven field operation in GOP history. Our fundraising strength continues to outpace the Democrat National Committee and will give our nominee a distinct advantage over the Democrats heading into the general election next year."
The RNC said that 99 percent of donations received in September totaled $200 or less; the average contribution was $65. The committee was carrying a debt of $1.8 million.
