A police chase stemming from an armed robbery came to an end in the shadow of the U.S. Capitol building as President Obama was concluding his State of the Union address Tuesday evening.

The chase originated in District Heights, Md., in suburban Prince George's County, and crossed into the District of Columbia, police said. Authorities told Fox News that a priority call was put out on the radio while Obama was inside the Capitol.

The chase was initiated by Prince George's County police and District Heights police, U.S. Capitol Police said.

Authorities said the pursued car almost hit one of the barricades closing the Capitol campus to vehicle traffic near the Rayburn House Office Building south of the Capitol. The ensuing police activity closed part of Washington Avenue, Southwest and Hill staffers were advised to avoid the area.

The street eventually reopened at approximately 10:40 p.m. local time, about 30 minutes after the end of Obama's speech. There was no immediate word of any arrests or injuries.
