President Obama is urging voters to back Democratic Newark Mayor Cory Booker in his New Jersey Senate campaign in a new video released on Monday.
In the video posted to Booker's campaign website, Obama said New Jersey voters have "an opportunity to send a message to the entire country about what kind of leadership we expect from our representatives in Congress," as the federal government shutdown enters its third week and Washington remains deadlocked over raising the nation's debt limit.
"We're better than the shutdown politics we've seen in Washington," said Obama.
"Cory Booker has spent his entire life bringing people with different perspectives together, regardless of party, to take on tough challenges," he continued. "Take if from me: Now more than ever before, that's the kind of leader we need in the Senate."
